- 0:05She's a happy girl. Hello, friends, and welcome back to another podcast of Woman.
- 0:10At the Well Ministries, where we believe that all of us have to come to Jesus
- 0:15like the woman at the well in John chapter 4.
- 0:18Our highest priority is making God real in your life.
- 0:21Whether you are listening in our app, in your favorite podcasting app,
- 0:25or on our website at watwm.org, we invite you to sit down with us as we look
- 0:31to the scriptures to learn more about God and to strengthen your daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- 1:03In Matthew 25, 40, we read, And the king shall answer and say unto them,
- 1:09Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these my
- 1:14brethren, ye have done it unto me.
- 1:17Join us in this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries as Kim walks us through
- 1:21the scriptures, showing us how we should treat others.
- 1:25Galatians 5, 14 says, For all the law is fulfilled in one word,
- 1:30even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
- 1:35May he always find us loving others as he loves us.
- 1:40Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries.
- 1:43And I'm delighted to spend the next few moments with you as we look into the
- 1:47concept that God has given us, that we are to love our neighbor as thyself.
- 1:54And he tells us that in Galatians 5.14. And it's difficult, I think,
- 1:59sometimes for us to really understand exactly what he is saying.
- 2:05And we don't really want to take ownership of that responsibility because most
- 2:12of us are pretty centered on ourselves.
- 2:17And most of us, if we have an expansion of our focus, it's just to those select
- 2:23few that are probably in our little circle.
- 2:26And your neighbor may or may not be in that circle.
- 2:31And life is just so busy and we can fill it up in a heartbeat.
- 2:38But God has said that we are to love our neighbor as thyself.
- 2:43And I want you to think about what it means to love yourself.
- 2:47We think about the things we
- 2:49need. We look at the basic necessities and we make sure that we have them.
- 2:55We have food and shelter and clothing.
- 2:58And the Lord blesses us with these things. But we take into consideration those
- 3:04needs and we seek to make sure we live in such a way that we are able to have those.
- 3:11I want you to think how we consider the things that matter to us for our well-being.
- 3:20We make sure that we get good rest. And all of us are a little shorter than
- 3:24that for the most part because we spread ourselves too thin with the days that
- 3:28we plan. as opposed to letting God plan them.
- 3:31But we do all of these things loving ourselves.
- 3:37We have learned in our lifetime to be good to ourselves.
- 3:41And when God says in Galatians 5.14, for all the laws fulfilled in one word,
- 3:48even this thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
- 3:52We need to really begin to think that we need to start looking at others with
- 3:58the same intensity that we look at ourselves, not for judgment,
- 4:03but to make sure that we are providing what we can to help them have the things
- 4:10they need that gives them a good life.
- 4:14You see, God may have set it up that you have exactly the abundance in the area.
- 4:22That your neighbor has a need. For you see, God knows the needs we have before we're even asking him.
- 4:28And he set it up that he would fulfill those needs.
- 4:32Because he says that I will supply all of your needs according to my riches
- 4:36and glory. And he says, you can do all things through me, which strengthens you.
- 4:41Therefore, if you have a need, the
- 4:43answer to that need has already been determined and help is on the way.
- 4:49But as individuals we have the privilege
- 4:52and the honor to be used of God
- 4:55to be that piece
- 4:59of the puzzle that fits in
- 5:02to supply that need of the
- 5:05ones that are around us but until we
- 5:08begin to look at Galatians 5 14 with
- 5:12enough intensity to try it
- 5:15on in our lives and to let it motivate and
- 5:18inspire us to live we're going
- 5:22to miss the needs of those around us because most
- 5:25people are not going to tap you on the shoulder and
- 5:28say i need whatever in fact most people will sound fine i don't need anything
- 5:34because pride goes before a fall and no one wants to have to ask but that very
- 5:41person may be on their knees asking jesus to supply their needs and he's supplying it.
- 5:47But he may have given you first opportunity to be the one that he uses to bless others.
- 5:52But unless we begin to look at what it means to be a good neighbor,
- 5:57to love one as we love ourselves, we're going to miss some fantastic opportunities
- 6:03to be a blessing in other people's lives.
- 6:06In Haggai chapter 1, beginning in verse 5, he says, Now therefore,
- 6:11thus saith the Lord of hosts, consider your ways.
- 6:15In verses six in verse
- 6:18six he begins to talk about the futility of
- 6:21how they're working and doing all these things and they're
- 6:24not getting at all what they expect and they're
- 6:27not reaping fruits that they are thinking they should
- 6:30for the labor they're giving and in verse seven he says again consider your
- 6:35ways what i'd like to bring to you for the next few moments as we spend time
- 6:41in the Word of God is a fresh look at what it means to be a good neighbor.
- 6:48And in doing so, I'm asking you to consider your ways and really look at what
- 6:55you're doing and see if you are fulfilling that basic commandment that the Lord
- 7:02has placed upon us to love another as we love ourselves.
- 7:07I'd like for you to please to turn to John chapter 15.
- 7:12In John chapter 15 and beginning in verse 9, the word of the Lord says this,
- 7:17As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you, continue ye in my love.
- 7:25If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my
- 7:31Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
- 7:36These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you,
- 7:41and that your joy might be full.
- 7:43This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you.
- 7:48Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.
- 7:53Verse 14, he says, ye are my friends if you do whatsoever I command you.
- 8:01I ask you to just back up and really listen as we hear what God says in verse
- 8:0911 of the 15th chapter of the gospel of John.
- 8:14He says, these things have I spoken unto you that my joy might remain in you
- 8:22and that your joy might be full.
- 8:26You want to understand the secret to joy unspeakable and full of glory,
- 8:33to a peace that passes understanding.
- 8:36It's living in love.
- 8:38You see, he says, if you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love.
- 8:44He also says in his precious word that if you love me, my commandments aren't grievous.
- 8:52Friends, as we begin to consider our ways, we must stop right here and really
- 8:58take a close look on how we feel about what God commands us to do.
- 9:03His commandments are given to us not to be grievous, not to be a weight around our neck.
- 9:11In fact, he tells us to let go of the weight which thus so easily beset us and
- 9:16to run the race with patience.
- 9:20You see, these commandments that he's given us are because he knows the plans he has for us.
- 9:25And he understands that if you follow his commandments, you'll stay in his will
- 9:31and you'll be in the place you're supposed to be.
- 9:33And when the blessings from God start pouring out, you won't be on the wrong avenue.
- 9:38You'll be right there where the spout of glory is, and you'll be right there.
- 9:42And the grace of God will just cover you, and you'll be equipped to receive his commandments.
- 9:51Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
- 9:54That shouldn't be a difficult thing, for the love of God is inside of us,
- 9:59and we can do all things through Christ.
- 10:01It is beyond human ability to love one who has wronged us.
- 10:06But oh isn't it just like jesus to love you just the same isn't it just like jesus,
- 10:15to absolutely forgive you time and time and time again not even of different
- 10:21things but of the very same transgression.
- 10:25You see, with the love of Jesus, we truly can.
- 10:29He says, this is my commandment, that you love one another as I've loved you.
- 10:34And then he explains how greater love hath no man than this,
- 10:36that a man lay down his life for his friend.
- 10:39That's exactly what Jesus Christ did. And he said we were his friends if we keep his commandments.
- 10:44Oh, since I was a little girl, I was so excited to be the friend of God.
- 10:51There was something about that verse that just really clung in my heart.
- 10:57And I knew that no matter what had happened in this world, no matter how disappointed
- 11:03I may have been, no matter how scary things seemed around me,
- 11:07when my mom was sick and in the hospital and stuff,
- 11:10and when school seemed hard and people sort of laughed at me because I really
- 11:15got the whole be a peculiar person down.
- 11:17When all of these things took place, I could cling to the fact that.
- 11:22That he said, if you keep my commandments, you're my friend.
- 11:26And I could remember Abraham being spoken of by God.
- 11:33And when Abraham was described by God, do you remember what God described Abraham as? The friend of God.
- 11:41Do you remember Abraham talking to God and the scripture saying that he walked with God?
- 11:50Oh, how important it was to me that the scriptures told me that God was no respecter of persons.
- 11:56And if Abraham was allowed to walk with God because he kept his commandments
- 12:00and Abraham was obedient to the will of God,
- 12:03then I knew that Kimmy could walk with God, not because she was special,
- 12:09but because she was his, bought with a price.
- 12:13And he said, hey, I'll never leave you nor forsake you.
- 12:18And he said, if you'll just draw unto me, I'll draw unto you.
- 12:21And I believed it with all that I had.
- 12:24And as I began to look at the scripture all over again, as we were going to
- 12:28talk about this in today's lesson,
- 12:30my heart sprang with joy as I just remembered how much comfort it had brought
- 12:36me my whole life to know that I could be the friend of God.
- 12:40I was never friendless. And in Proverbs, he says to us If you want to have friends
- 12:47You must show yourself friendly And man, that just speaks to my heart.
- 12:54Because I'm talking about being the friend of God. And I'm talking about being
- 12:58able to say in my heart of hearts that me and Jesus are friends.
- 13:04And I thought about what it meant to be friendly to God.
- 13:09You see, I'll tell you what it means. In Matthew chapter 25,
- 13:15verses 34 through 40, he tells us exactly how to be the friend of God.
- 13:21He says, Then shall the king say unto them on his right hand,
- 13:24Come ye blessed of my father.
- 13:27Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
- 13:31For I was a hungered, and you gave me meat.
- 13:35I was thirsty, and you gave me drink.
- 13:38I was a stranger, and you took me in. Naked, and you clothed me.
- 13:44I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came unto me.
- 13:50Then shall the righteous answer him and say, Lord, when saw we thee at hunger and fed thee?
- 13:58Or thirsty and gave thee drink?
- 14:00When saw we thee a stranger and took thee in? Or naked and clothed thee?
- 14:07Or when saw we thee sick or in prison and came unto thee?
- 14:13The king shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,
- 14:18for as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto me,
- 14:28you see he said that I could be his friend and he said that if I loved him I
- 14:35would keep his commandments.
- 14:37And he explained to me in his commandments that I needed to love one another
- 14:43and that to truly be in his will, I had to love my neighbor as myself.
- 14:51And that I needed to realize that there wasn't any greater love than laying
- 14:55down my life so that someone else might have one.
- 14:59And I realized that being the friend of God is being his hands extended and his feet.
- 15:10And when you put your arms around that little lonely person, you're hugging Jesus.
- 15:18And when you sit at the bedside of that frail, sick person, you're sitting at the bedside of Jesus.
- 15:32And when you run that errand for that elderly person, you're walking for Jesus.
- 15:40For you see he said if
- 15:44you love me you'll keep my commandments and
- 15:48if you keep my commandments you're my
- 15:51friend and he said these things I have spoken unto you that your joy that my
- 16:03joy might remain in you and that your joy might be full.
- 16:10Did you hear what he said these things i've spoken them to you you see there's a call,
- 16:20upon your life because he
- 16:22left the splendor of heaven to come
- 16:25and dwell among us and he came to seek
- 16:28and to save those which were lost and all of us
- 16:31were lost and his call was that
- 16:34you would come to repentance and know him as savior because
- 16:38he said it was his wish that none should perish but that
- 16:41all should come to repentance and he
- 16:44said i love you and he held nothing back he gave all he had for me and he spoke
- 16:54to me and as we listen to this lesson and we began to consider our ways.
- 17:02I was a little girl when I first heard him speak.
- 17:08You know what? He's spoken to me every day since. And sometimes I ignore the voice.
- 17:15And oh, how it must grief his heart. But you know what?
- 17:19He says that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
- 17:24sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 17:28And then he speaks again. And when I don't harbor iniquity in my heart,
- 17:33I can call unto him and expect him to answer me with great assurance that my friend will help me.
- 17:42And in Hebrews chapter 4, he said, I could come boldly to the throne of God
- 17:47that I might obtain help.
- 17:49That's what friends do. They give you what they have.
- 17:54They help you when you're in deed and they don't keep score or a tally.
- 18:00They just give. love and the love
- 18:03is so strong between them that it
- 18:05doesn't matter if one's given more than the other and i can't out give god and
- 18:10i can't give him what he's given me but i don't have to i just gotta give him
- 18:15my heart because he's gone and he loves me and he said these things i have spoken to you.
- 18:24Doesn't it just thrill you? He spoke them to you, that your joy might be full.
- 18:32But did you hear what he said before that?
- 18:34That my joy might remain in you.
- 18:38He gives you joy, but only if you love him, because you won't appreciate him. You won't receive him.
- 18:47I told my friend.
- 18:50You don't know him you've missed it all and my friend i don't know what you're
- 18:56doing for him and it may be hard
- 18:59and it may be strenuous or sad completely unthinkt but i have good news,
- 19:09my god said don't be weary in well-doing and my god said i'm watching you and
- 19:18i never sleep and I never slumber, and my eyes are going to and fro,
- 19:25and everything you do, I see and listen, my friend,
- 19:33lay up your treasures in heaven, where rust and moth does not corrupt.
- 19:40Hallelujah to the Lamb, there's a payday coming,
- 19:44but I don't have to wait, where I have joy unspeakable and full of glory and
- 19:51a peace that passes all understanding.
- 19:56Consider your ways and love your neighbor as yourself.
