- 0:11Hello friends, it's Shaun here. It's Friday, it's the 6th of
- 0:16June and aren't you clever making it to the end of another
- 0:19week? And here at the end of this week
- 0:22we are going to do the thing we do on Fridays, which is get
- 0:25smarter. Who knew that that was something
- 0:28we can do at the end of a long week?
- 0:30But that's exactly what we're going to do as we tap into some
- 0:34age old wisdom and see how that shapes us and improves the way
- 0:40that we engage in the world. A bit of God's wisdom through
- 0:43the ages for us as we read it in Proverbs 1313 to 18.
- 0:59People who despise advice are asking for trouble.
- 1:03Those who respect a command will succeed.
- 1:09The instruction of the wise is like a life giving fountain.
- 1:13Those who accept it avoid the snares of death.
- 1:19A person with good sense is respected.
- 1:22A treacherous person is headed for destruction.
- 1:28Wise people think before they act.
- 1:31Fools don't and even brag about their foolishness.
- 1:37An unreliable messenger stumbles into trouble, but a reliable
- 1:42messenger brings healing. If you ignore criticism, you
- 1:48will end in poverty and disgrace.
- 1:51If you accept correction, you will be honoured.
- 1:57And again, people who despise advice are asking for trouble.
- 2:04Those who respect to command will succeed.

- 2:39messenger brings healing. If you ignore criticism, you
- 2:46will end in poverty and disgrace.
- 2:49If you accept correction, you will be honoured.
- 3:02We see this reoccurring theme in these proverbs of being open to
- 3:08wise counsel, to being open to those who would correct us and
- 3:14change our direction slightly and provide feedback, which
- 3:18let's be honest, Lord, we never like give receiving feedback,
- 3:21particularly if it's feedback about something we're doing not
- 3:23quite being right. But Lord, I pray that you would
- 3:28take away our arrogance, take away our pride, these parts of
- 3:33us which naturally bubble up if we don't pay attention to them.
- 3:39And give us your spirit of humility and openness and even
- 3:45curiosity. That we can always be open to
- 3:48your wisdom as it's sometimes delivered to us in a package
- 3:53that we might not anticipate, like the words of someone else.
- 3:59And Lord, thank you that you continually work on us, that
- 4:03Your spirit continually shapes us and moulds us so that we can
- 4:07be more like you. Ah, Lord, help us always
- 4:10remember that we are on a journey of transformation,
- 4:14becoming ever more like you as your people.
- 4:19Thank you that you would take the time and energy to transform
- 4:22us. And thank you for giving us your
- 4:25spirit right here in our hearts to be the agent of that
- 4:29transformation. So we praise you, our wise and
- 4:32wonderful transformer, and thank you that we get to be more like
- 4:37you. And we pray all of this in the
- 4:40precious name of Jesus, Amen.
