Latest / NFL Now / Discussion on Odell Beckham Jr. as a Raven, Reaction to Charles Davis Mock Draft 2.0, & an interview with Zach Charbonnet
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio two weeks two weeks away from night number
- 0:22Speaker 1: one of the NFL Draft. Welcome to NFL Now, presented
- 0:25Speaker 1: to you by IKEA from our newsroom in Los Angeles.
- 0:28Speaker 1: My name is Andrew Ceciliano. Got a lot going on today.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Might the commanders actually be close to a sale? Maybe
- 0:35Speaker 1: we have a Charles Davis mock draft. We have Jason
- 0:39Speaker 1: Light on the podium says he doesn't want to trade
- 0:41Speaker 1: Devin White. We also have the Vikings on the podium.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Today we'll hear from Kevin O'Connell and Quasi Adolpho Mensa.
- 0:48Speaker 1: All of that coming up in this hour. The big news, however,
- 0:51Speaker 1: today was Odell Beckham Jr. On the podium in Baltimore.
- 0:55Speaker 1: He flew in yesterday with his family. He is going
- 0:57Speaker 1: to wear number three. There is the jersey and he
- 1:02Speaker 1: in Owens Mills got on the stage with Erica Costa,
- 1:05Speaker 1: the gem of the writer and John Harmall, the coach
- 1:07Speaker 1: on the left. And obviously you know there's this other
- 1:10Speaker 1: you know thing about the quarterback, like Lamar Jackson, is
- 1:13Speaker 1: is he going to be the quarterback? Oh? Yeah, they
- 1:14Speaker 1: asked about odellto um, you know, I've talked to Lamar
- 1:20Speaker 1: while we was out there, and I know that's a
- 1:22Speaker 1: better discussion for these two as far as how that
- 1:25Speaker 1: get handled. But the goal was, you know, to come
- 1:29Speaker 1: here and and have that possibility to play with him,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and I'm excited about that opportunity as far as the team,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and I just ready to bring leadership, ready to bring.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I've been out for a long time. I had to
- 1:41Speaker 1: sit there and watch everyone else play, and I'm just
- 1:45Speaker 1: excited to get back on the field, you know. And
- 1:48Speaker 1: it's good to be where you wanted and you know,
- 1:50Speaker 1: like we said, we've had communications since last October and
- 1:54Speaker 1: you know, you guys showed me that you wanted me
- 1:57Speaker 1: to be here and then I was going to be
- 1:58Speaker 1: a very big piece to this organization. So I'm definitely
- 2:02Speaker 1: excited about that. We had a few conversations throughout those
- 2:06Speaker 1: kind of conversations, especially where Odell was at and we
- 2:09Speaker 1: were fighting to try to make a season and he
- 2:12Speaker 1: was fighting to get his way back. I think he
- 2:15Speaker 1: kind of wanted to maybe think about playing at that
- 2:16Speaker 1: point in time, and we had some really honest conversations.
- 2:19Speaker 1: That's what struck me more than anything was just his honesty,
- 2:22Speaker 1: you know, it was he was very much an open
- 2:24Speaker 1: book in terms of what he was thinking, what he
- 2:26Speaker 1: wanted to do, where he was going, really not trying
- 2:29Speaker 1: to sell anything or talk about anything other than this
- 2:31Speaker 1: is really where I'm at, This what I'm thinking, asking
- 2:34Speaker 1: where we were at, just those conversations and kind of
- 2:37Speaker 1: culminating in Phoenix when we had a chance to be
- 2:38Speaker 1: face to face and just kind of connecting that way.
- 2:42Speaker 1: But it was really easy and normal, natural, and I
- 2:44Speaker 1: just was struck by his straightforwardness and honesty. You know.
- 2:48Speaker 1: We went into it knowing we were the underdogs, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: sometimes it's a great story. Sometimes the underdog wins. And
- 2:53Speaker 1: we're thrilled to have him here today and we're thrilled
- 2:56Speaker 1: for what this means for our football team, the underdog. Interesting.
- 3:00Speaker 1: A lot to unpack from that press are, including Beckham
- 3:03Speaker 1: suggesting that his knee was really shot when he got
- 3:06Speaker 1: to the Rams two years ago and eventually that thing
- 3:09Speaker 1: toward her at the Super Bowl, Sherry burst in the
- 3:10Speaker 1: room in Baltimore, Brian Baldinger with us as well. There's
- 3:13Speaker 1: the obj part of this. Sherry. Obviously, he was the
- 3:16Speaker 1: star on the stage, but the Lamar Jackson situation kind
- 3:19Speaker 1: of hung over all of it. Yeah, Andrew, there was
- 3:24Speaker 1: definitely a large focus and a lot of questions surrounding
- 3:27Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson and if he is indeed going to be
- 3:29Speaker 1: the quarterback, throwing to Odell Beckham, but OBJ saying that
- 3:33Speaker 1: Lamar did still have an influence on his decision to
- 3:36Speaker 1: come to Baltimore, as he said the conversation started with
- 3:39Speaker 1: owner Stephen Bashotti reaching out last October, so it was
- 3:43Speaker 1: a long courtship, but OBJ feeling comfortable with his decision,
- 3:48Speaker 1: even knowing there is still that uncertainty if Lamar is
- 3:52Speaker 1: going to be his quarterback. He did have a funny
- 3:55Speaker 1: moment at one point he looked into the cameras in
- 3:57Speaker 1: the back of the room and just said, hey, Lamar,
- 3:59Speaker 1: if you're watching, and kind of gave a little wave.
- 4:01Speaker 1: But he was just so optimistic that Lamar is going
- 4:05Speaker 1: to be here, going to be his quarterback, and that
- 4:07Speaker 1: message was echoed by head coach John Harbaugh and GM
- 4:10Speaker 1: Erica Costa, both talking glowingly about Lamar again, how much
- 4:14Speaker 1: they want Lamar Jackson to be here, the plans that
- 4:17Speaker 1: they're making with Lamar as their quarterback and the connection
- 4:21Speaker 1: that him and OBJ will have in this coming season. Baldi,
- 4:24Speaker 1: how does he fit here? Look, he's good, he's talented.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Odell Beckham junior should make any team better. But we're
- 4:31Speaker 1: still trying to figure out what Todd Monkin is going
- 4:33Speaker 1: to do molding this offense as the new OC. You know,
- 4:37Speaker 1: in Cleveland, the whole deal was, Hey, Odell, this is
- 4:40Speaker 1: a timing offense. Be where you need to be when
- 4:43Speaker 1: we need you there. Is that what's going to happen here? Well,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I just listen to what Sherry just said in her
- 4:52Speaker 1: report about Steve Bischetti reaching out to him back on October.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I mean, it's pretty fortuitous that the Ravens were reaching
- 4:59Speaker 1: out to him in October. And here's Todd Munkin as
- 5:02Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator now here in April, and the had
- 5:05Speaker 1: worked together in Cleveland and had success in Cleveland to
- 5:09Speaker 1: a degree. Now, you know, nobody will ever say this,
- 5:11Speaker 1: but O'Dell played with a torn abdomen muscle that whole
- 5:15Speaker 1: season in Cleveland with Todd Munkin. But he knows the
- 5:18Speaker 1: offense they need a number one wide receiver Rischade Bateman's
- 5:21Speaker 1: coming back from a foot injury from a year ago.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I don't know where he's at in that rehab, but
- 5:27Speaker 1: I thought when we saw Odell come to Los Angeles,
- 5:31Speaker 1: right Andrew and you know, you had Cooper Cup and
- 5:33Speaker 1: it was just a perfect fitt. He learned the offense
- 5:36Speaker 1: lickety split. He was the number two guy. You want
- 5:39Speaker 1: to go double and take Cooper Cup out. We got
- 5:41Speaker 1: Adele over here and he won a championship as a
- 5:44Speaker 1: result of that ability. I think he can still be
- 5:47Speaker 1: a number one because I think he still has great
- 5:49Speaker 1: suddenness and home run hitting ability. And we're seeing a
- 5:53Speaker 1: very mature Odell Beckham right now. I mean you just
- 5:57Speaker 1: see the way he conducts himself in a press conference
- 5:59Speaker 1: right now. I think he's ready for duty. And I
- 6:01Speaker 1: think he knows Todd Munkin and I think he's gonna
- 6:04Speaker 1: fit in really well. When an offense said has to
- 6:06Speaker 1: get better in the passing game, points come out of
- 6:09Speaker 1: the passing game. They got to score more points, and
- 6:14Speaker 1: he's chumping at the bit to get back out there.
- 6:16Speaker 1: His mentality is he is just chomping at the bit.
- 6:19Speaker 1: He is so eager to get back out there on
- 6:21Speaker 1: the field beat. We heard it a little bit in
- 6:23Speaker 1: that soundclip before we started. He saw everyone out there celebrating,
- 6:26Speaker 1: doing the gritty, doing backflips. OBJ is eager to get
- 6:30Speaker 1: on the field, but the question is when there are
- 6:32Speaker 1: still discussions with coaches the medical staff, when we will
- 6:36Speaker 1: see him out there on the field. But also, as
- 6:38Speaker 1: bold he mentioned, he is so mature in this press conference,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and he did say, yeah, I might have made a
- 6:43Speaker 1: few mistakes when I was younger, but now he is
- 6:46Speaker 1: ready to come in be a veteran and leave these
- 6:49Speaker 1: guys and be as much as a teacher guys as
- 6:51Speaker 1: he can, but also said he's also still very open
- 6:54Speaker 1: to learning new things, particularly as he comes into a
- 6:57Speaker 1: new system here in Baltimore. That new system with they
- 7:00Speaker 1: hope Lamar Jackson eventually Sherry Burr in Baltimore. Brian Boldinger
- 7:06Speaker 1: as well, We thank you as we continue here on
- 7:08Speaker 1: NFL Now and bring in our NFL Network insider interappaport.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Eric de Costa Saidwood he has Ian said all along
- 7:15Speaker 1: they want Lamar Jackson back. They're still trying to work
- 7:18Speaker 1: to get Lamar Jackson back. He said. They have not
- 7:21Speaker 1: spoken however, since they signed Beckham. They offered them the
- 7:26Speaker 1: most money right did they offer the most money, just
- 7:29Speaker 1: hoping hey, he'll say yes, and then Lamar would somehow
- 7:31Speaker 1: be convinced that they seem like two totally separate things here, No,
- 7:38Speaker 1: there is an intersection, and I was, you know, I
- 7:41Speaker 1: took note of the fact that as soon as it
- 7:43Speaker 1: became clear that Odell Beckham Junior would go to the
- 7:45Speaker 1: Baltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson post an Instagram and was like,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I was involved. Here's our FaceTime. He did recruit ob
- 7:53Speaker 1: J to the Ravens. So it's not totally separate. I mean,
- 7:56Speaker 1: Lamar deal is separate, but the situation there was some intersection.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Those two are friends, They're hanging out and partying in
- 8:02Speaker 1: Miami together, so there is certainly a connection there and
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think this is all positive for the Ravens. The
- 8:08Speaker 1: other part of this is, of course, is the Lamar
- 8:11Speaker 1: Jackson deal is not done. I don't get the censor's
- 8:13Speaker 1: been any progress since his trade request. But Eric to
- 8:17Speaker 1: Costa said, really what he's been saying all the time,
- 8:19Speaker 1: which is that we love Lamar, we want to get
- 8:22Speaker 1: a deal done. He's a big part of our future.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Hearing O'Dell say it, knowing that he had just spoken
- 8:27Speaker 1: to Lamar, probably in a little less guided fashion I
- 8:29Speaker 1: would guess was positive too. At least it appears that
- 8:33Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson is going to be the Ravens quarterback to
- 8:36Speaker 1: the twenty twenty three season, throwing passes to O'Dell. How
- 8:39Speaker 1: that happens under what deal still to be determined. And again,
- 8:42Speaker 1: July seventeen is the deadline to get a long term
- 8:46Speaker 1: deal done, So Midsummer tager no tag. Well, because of
- 8:49Speaker 1: the tag, they have to have a long term deal
- 8:52Speaker 1: done by then. It's not as if they're just going
- 8:54Speaker 1: to do a long term deal right before week one.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That can't happen. It has to be by July seventeen.
- 8:59Speaker 1: All right. The big story today ian down the road
- 9:02Speaker 1: from there is in Washington. We do not yet have
- 9:06Speaker 1: a deal to sell the Commanders, but it seems as
- 9:09Speaker 1: if we are as close as ever. What can you
- 9:13Speaker 1: tell us? And by we, you don't mean you and I,
- 9:16Speaker 1: because you do not have just under six by the
- 9:20Speaker 1: Washington Commanders. But Josh Harris's group does, the Devil's Owner,
- 9:23Speaker 1: the Sixers Owner. He is among the group that is
- 9:27Speaker 1: seemingly in line to purchase the Washington Commanders for just
- 9:30Speaker 1: under six billion dollars. Nothing is done, nothing is final.
- 9:34Speaker 1: The bid has not yet been submitted to the league,
- 9:36Speaker 1: but certainly the wheels are in motion. That'll make you
- 9:39Speaker 1: think this happened, happens at some point soon. Would it
- 9:42Speaker 1: really take is for owner Dan Sander to inform the
- 9:45Speaker 1: league this is the bid that I like, this is
- 9:47Speaker 1: the bid that has been submitted, this is what I want,
- 9:50Speaker 1: and then the two sides would get together, engage in
- 9:53Speaker 1: exclusive negotiations, finalize a deal, and then Josh Harris would
- 9:57Speaker 1: in fact be the new owner of the Washington Commanders.
- 9:59Speaker 1: We are not there yet, but it does appear that
- 10:03Speaker 1: Josh Harris is the favorite, and I understanding talking to
- 10:06Speaker 1: people involved in this deal is that the two sides
- 10:09Speaker 1: are nearing a deal for Josh Harris to replace Dans.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Nearing a deal is the language we will use. Six
- 10:15Speaker 1: billion dollars would be a record for not only an
- 10:19Speaker 1: NFL team, it would be a record for any team.
- 10:23Speaker 1: The Broncos last year sold for just north of four
- 10:25Speaker 1: point six billion dollars. All right back to the draft.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Ian Desmond Ritters, the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. Their
- 10:32Speaker 1: brain trust made that pretty clear. A couple of weeks
- 10:34Speaker 1: ago at the annual meeting, they did not want to
- 10:37Speaker 1: go get Lamar Jackson. Obviously, the owner, Arthur Blank made
- 10:40Speaker 1: that clear as well, although he said nice things for
- 10:42Speaker 1: the most part about Lamar Jackson. Why is Will Levis
- 10:45Speaker 1: visiting the Falcons who sit there at number eight because
- 10:50Speaker 1: you never know, You never know, and what teams have
- 10:52Speaker 1: benefited from doing their homework on quarterbacks. You don't know
- 10:55Speaker 1: who's gonna fall to. We have no idea if what
- 10:58Speaker 1: Levis is going to go three or you know, with
- 11:01Speaker 1: a trade or four or further into the draft, or
- 11:04Speaker 1: a team like Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gonna come up
- 11:07Speaker 1: and trade for There's a lot we don't know. But
- 11:09Speaker 1: if you're the Atlanta Falcons, unless you are one million
- 11:12Speaker 1: percent sure that you have a quarterback that is better
- 11:15Speaker 1: than all the other quarterbacks draft, that you owe to
- 11:17Speaker 1: yourself to do your homework. So that is what's going
- 11:19Speaker 1: on now. Will Levis, Kentucky quarterback in Atlanta today on
- 11:23Speaker 1: a top thirty visit and they are going to take
- 11:25Speaker 1: a look and we will see, of course what ends
- 11:27Speaker 1: up happening. Let's say more situation. Anthony Richardson, one of
- 11:30Speaker 1: the other top quarterbacks in this draft. The Florida quarterback
- 11:32Speaker 1: will put on such a show at the combine and
- 11:35Speaker 1: in his pro day. He spent yesterday with the Indianapolis
- 11:38Speaker 1: coltack they they have the number four overall pick. It'd
- 11:41Speaker 1: only be interesting new coach Shane Stike and ends up
- 11:44Speaker 1: coaching him after coaching Jalen Hurts. Anyway, Richardson now goes
- 11:49Speaker 1: home for the weekend and visits the Tennessee Titans on Monday.
- 11:52Speaker 1: All right, Anthony Richardson on the Player's Tribute an open
- 11:55Speaker 1: letter to NFL coaches, gamson owners today basically saying, hey,
- 11:59Speaker 1: take a shot on me. I will not let you
- 12:01Speaker 1: down when Anthony Richardson or Will Levis gets to the
- 12:04Speaker 1: NFL ian it was announced today they will have the
- 12:06Speaker 1: option of wearing a quarterbacks specific helmet designed again specifically
- 12:13Speaker 1: for quarterbacks to help reduce concussions. Tell me about that.
- 12:18Speaker 1: This is kind of a fascinating development from the NFL
- 12:20Speaker 1: and the NFLPA and something that we are going to
- 12:22Speaker 1: see more in the coming years. We saw D line
- 12:25Speaker 1: O line helmets last year certainly some of the higher
- 12:28Speaker 1: performing helmets in the league. Based on the data just
- 12:30Speaker 1: released by the NFL and the NFLPA, and now a
- 12:33Speaker 1: quarterback specific helmet developed by Vices, the company that has
- 12:38Speaker 1: been involved in the NFL and the NFLPA and kind
- 12:40Speaker 1: of furthering this technology. And some of this comes Andrew
- 12:44Speaker 1: because it was an increase in concussions eighteen percent last year,
- 12:48Speaker 1: in part because of the rising concussions for quarterback. A
- 12:51Speaker 1: lot of those concussions came when quarterbacks head hit the turf.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Based on the science done by the NFL and the NFLPA,
- 12:59Speaker 1: these new helmets reduced concussions by seven percent. That is
- 13:04Speaker 1: obviously significant, especially if you're one of the quarterbacks LUs
- 13:06Speaker 1: concussion was presented. So we're going to see an expansion
- 13:09Speaker 1: of position specific helmets coming soon to the NFL. All right,
- 13:14Speaker 1: it's called the Vices zero two matrix helmets specifically here
- 13:19Speaker 1: for quarterbacks. In rapp Reporter NFL Network insider, Thank you sir.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Coming up next. This guy's are running back and a
- 13:27Speaker 1: good one, a guy that scored nearly forty touchdowns combined
- 13:31Speaker 1: the last two years. UCLA running back Zach Scharbonay coming
- 13:36Speaker 1: up next on NFL Now The inside head off flashing
- 13:44Speaker 1: through Zach Charbonnay cuts it back, stutter step, moving the
- 13:49Speaker 1: open field and touchdown number three. Another dude to Charbonay,
- 13:54Speaker 1: peals to the right, base stores, hand off and Bay touchdown.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Charmonay hand off, Charbonay plunging up the middle of the
- 14:01Speaker 1: scores thirty seven yards on a touchdown. You've got this guy,
- 14:08Speaker 1: So it's just asking for a friend here, Brian Baldinger
- 14:11Speaker 1: as we say hi to Zach Charbona from UCLA. Zach
- 14:14Speaker 1: is seven yards a carry. Good? Yeah, sorry, I mean
- 14:20Speaker 1: I think it's a pretty good number. Um. Now, obviously
- 14:22Speaker 1: you're shigling for better, but you know, I'm satisfied with
- 14:25Speaker 1: that for us year. Yeah, it is good. Zach charbon A,
- 14:28Speaker 1: UCLA running back, joins us here as we are Zach,
- 14:30Speaker 1: two weeks away from the draft. Twenty seven touchdowns. For the
- 14:33Speaker 1: the last couple of years, I know you've been traveling
- 14:34Speaker 1: all around the country here the pre draft process. Good news,
- 14:37Speaker 1: it's almost over. How has this job interview been for
- 14:41Speaker 1: you the last couple of months? Yeah, you know, obviously
- 14:45Speaker 1: it's it's very busy, but uh, you know, I'm just
- 14:47Speaker 1: enjoying the process because you know, I hear that it
- 14:50Speaker 1: never happens like this again. Um, So, you know, I'm
- 14:52Speaker 1: just soaking it all in and I'm just happy to
- 14:54Speaker 1: be in this position. Zach. I hope that these evaluators
- 14:59Speaker 1: just watch your game tape. I mean I go back
- 15:01Speaker 1: watch it Michigan. I watch it in the Battle for
- 15:04Speaker 1: the City of the Angel there against USC this year.
- 15:07Speaker 1: All I see is a guy that breaks tackles, and
- 15:09Speaker 1: he make you make it look almost effortless sometimes, Zach, Like,
- 15:13Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that you're a violent runner. I just
- 15:15Speaker 1: say that you just stay on your feet and you're
- 15:18Speaker 1: a hard guy to tackle. What say you, Zach? Yeah,
- 15:23Speaker 1: you know, especially to that point though, something that Coach
- 15:26Speaker 1: Foster used to always sign or told us was, you know,
- 15:28Speaker 1: if you want to be elite, make the first guy
- 15:30Speaker 1: miss the matter in any fashion. You know, I'll make
- 15:33Speaker 1: a miss run throw them up. So you know, that's
- 15:34Speaker 1: something I took a lot of pride in this past season,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and that's something I feel like executed up. You know,
- 15:38Speaker 1: there's obviously a lot of play staying on my feet
- 15:40Speaker 1: making a guy miss, that's something I took pride. Yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you did that pretty well. Also had a first down
- 15:45Speaker 1: on like thirty something percent of your carries on first
- 15:48Speaker 1: and second down, which was phenomenal. Let's get back into
- 15:51Speaker 1: this process here. You visited the Cowboys, the Bills, the Bears.
- 15:55Speaker 1: You got the Bucks coming up next. Zach, tell the
- 15:58Speaker 1: people at home what these visits are like, because it's
- 16:01Speaker 1: not like the Combine where it's only like a couple
- 16:03Speaker 1: of minutes there in the hotel or a suite at
- 16:06Speaker 1: the stadium. I mean you're there for a full day. Yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 1: typically I fly in the night before. Um, you know,
- 16:13Speaker 1: you get dinners with the coaches, does this coaches stuff
- 16:15Speaker 1: like that, and then the next day, you know, you're
- 16:18Speaker 1: pretty much just meeting a lot of people throughout the building. Um,
- 16:22Speaker 1: you know, you never realized how big an organization it is,
- 16:24Speaker 1: and so you're shaking a lot of hands out that day.
- 16:27Speaker 1: So do you remember everyone really fun, um and just
- 16:32Speaker 1: watching film and talking ball. So it's been it's been
- 16:34Speaker 1: a fun experience. Baldi, go ahead, Zach. I'm just curious.
- 16:40Speaker 1: You know, everybody and their mother has a mock draft,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and you know, usually it's the first round. I never
- 16:46Speaker 1: see your name in it in the first round. Never.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'm just curious, does this bug you at all? Like,
- 16:52Speaker 1: because I look at you and I Okay, there's Bije
- 16:54Speaker 1: and everybody talks about Bijan's fine, but like, are they
- 16:57Speaker 1: watching Zach Scharbone enough right in your mind right now? Yeah?
- 17:02Speaker 1: You know, obviously I'm always gonna hold myself to that
- 17:05Speaker 1: high standard on them. You know, I think I'm one
- 17:06Speaker 1: of the best person in the draft for sure, but
- 17:09Speaker 1: you know, not the draft work. So you know, I'm
- 17:11Speaker 1: always going in will to open mind them. So despite
- 17:14Speaker 1: how wherever I go, what round, whatever team gets me that,
- 17:17Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go there, execute to the best of
- 17:20Speaker 1: my ability and just showcasing why I shouldn't want to hire. Yeah,
- 17:23Speaker 1: it's it's funny here because Baldy we were talking about
- 17:25Speaker 1: that actually off the here today in the news room. Here.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Jean Robinson's an amazing prospect. I think the rest of
- 17:30Speaker 1: this running back class, Zach doesn't get the attention that
- 17:33Speaker 1: it's deserves. Whether it's Junior Gibbs or you or whomever.
- 17:37Speaker 1: There's more than just one running back in this class.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Like there's more than just one quarterback, certainly in this class.
- 17:41Speaker 1: We had your quarterback in here last week, Dorian Thompson.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Robinson was here in the building. Zach. He had a
- 17:49Speaker 1: message for you roll it. Guess this is going to
- 17:54Speaker 1: Zach Charbonnet. Remember that time we were playing card games
- 17:57Speaker 1: in the airport. Yeah, I still need my in and
- 18:00Speaker 1: out buddy. So whenever you get drafted and whatever team
- 18:03Speaker 1: you get drafted to tell them a part of that
- 18:06Speaker 1: paycheck is going towards my ind and out. You're head
- 18:09Speaker 1: it here first, Zach. You all them in and out, dude. Yeah,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I mean that's that's something I've for sure been putting
- 18:16Speaker 1: off for a while now that I gotta gets in
- 18:19Speaker 1: and out. I keep telling out my will, but you know,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I just haven't got around in it. So during you know,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I'll give you a little VMO if that works for you.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I think that would work, Baldi, Zach, I'm just curious.
- 18:33Speaker 1: You're right there. You know, you're probably out in LA
- 18:36Speaker 1: in La kid Oaks Christian High School that stuff. You got,
- 18:39Speaker 1: the Rams, you got the Chargers there. They both look
- 18:41Speaker 1: to me like they could use a running back. Any
- 18:44Speaker 1: thoughts about the LA teams and your future right now? Zach? Yeah, honestly,
- 18:52Speaker 1: you know really haven't thought about it. Um. I mean,
- 18:55Speaker 1: just like I said before, you know, just whatever team
- 18:58Speaker 1: might go to, you know, that's the team I'm excited
- 19:00Speaker 1: to go to and get down and just work. So
- 19:04Speaker 1: you know, obviously I don't. My family would probably maybe
- 19:06Speaker 1: like the files in LA, but you know, I don't.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I know they don't care no matter where I am.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I don't care no matter where I am. I'm just
- 19:12Speaker 1: gonna be excited for the opportunity wherever I get is
- 19:14Speaker 1: that presents it. So your journey started here when the
- 19:17Speaker 1: mission came back to LA would be pretty cool, just
- 19:20Speaker 1: speaking for the LA football fans and one of the
- 19:22Speaker 1: teams that plays it so far right here over my
- 19:24Speaker 1: right shoulder would get you. Regardless, Zach, We're happy for you.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Good luck to you coming up in two weeks. Can't
- 19:30Speaker 1: wait to see where you go, Sir. I appreciate you, guys.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Thank you, Sir. Zach Charmond at UCLA running back. Two
- 19:37Speaker 1: weeks away from getting to Kansas City. Everybody. The NFL
- 19:41Speaker 1: Draft for twenty twenty three edition. The annual Selection Meeting
- 19:45Speaker 1: is fourteen days away, presented by a Verizon Live right
- 19:49Speaker 1: here in primetime on NFL Network three days starting April
- 19:53Speaker 1: twenty seven. The show is Anthony richardson the vertical of
- 20:00Speaker 1: forty and a half Broad jump of ten to nine.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Erie is running a forty yard dash and a mine.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He just watched the two hundred forty pound quarterback run
- 20:12Speaker 1: a sub four four forty. That is a gator bait
- 20:16Speaker 1: out there for all those in the market for a quarterback.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I believe the performance might that dude, Yeah, that dude's
- 20:23Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson and Rich Eysen and Daniel Garald Bioh had
- 20:26Speaker 1: a front row seat for the performance he put on
- 20:29Speaker 1: at the combine of the end of February in Indianapolis.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Charles Davis obviously was also there. He had a front
- 20:35Speaker 1: row seat. And it is new mock draft two point oh.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Look at the bottom of the screen here Charles has
- 20:41Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson going eleventh overall to the Tennessee Titans. Interesting
- 20:54Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson University of Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. He'll load
- 20:59Speaker 1: it up and cutting loose with that big art. I
- 21:01Speaker 1: believe my pump in making ability is my greatest country
- 21:05Speaker 1: on the field, making big plays and doing it when
- 21:12Speaker 1: people don't expect that. When I heard of somebody, nobody
- 21:14Speaker 1: expect me to do that? Are you kidding me? At
- 21:17Speaker 1: LSU on an eighty one yards spect taxes down, nobody
- 21:20Speaker 1: expected back. Richardson is dangerous in the open field, so
- 21:25Speaker 1: definitely different. I'm originally from Miami, you know. I spend
- 21:30Speaker 1: the first half of my life there all my family
- 21:32Speaker 1: and they don't We moved to Gainesville, so growing up
- 21:36Speaker 1: in games were playing for the University of the Florida.
- 21:38Speaker 1: You know, it kind of like a dream come true.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I was blessed with that opportunity until play in games.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Want to get love from the city, so I'm definitely
- 21:44Speaker 1: thankful for it. My personality is the goof for part
- 21:51Speaker 1: of me. I just like to bounce around and just
- 21:54Speaker 1: have a lot of energy at time. You know, sometimes
- 21:56Speaker 1: I like to be laid back until but just bouncing
- 21:58Speaker 1: around and having a lot of energy, that's that pretty
- 22:01Speaker 1: much mean. I feel like that's what makes my game electrifying.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I'm always younger. I definitely try to mimic Cam Newton,
- 22:10Speaker 1: just saying how big and physical he was and just
- 22:13Speaker 1: i electrifying he was. I definitely tried to compey that,
- 22:17Speaker 1: and then when I got to high school, just seeing
- 22:19Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson he is who at one point in time,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I started calling myself Cam Jackson just because I tried
- 22:28Speaker 1: to implement both of those guys into my game and
- 22:30Speaker 1: just you know, try to be different. It's definitely a
- 22:35Speaker 1: dream come true just to have this opportunity, and I
- 22:37Speaker 1: feel like my family and are definitely gonna assessment Tis
- 22:40Speaker 1: because there's something I've been looking forward to, something I've
- 22:42Speaker 1: been working for all my life. So I'm just blessed
- 22:44Speaker 1: to be here. Anthony Richardson going eleven of the Titans
- 22:48Speaker 1: and actually going to taton I Total Access. Anthony Richardson
- 22:51Speaker 1: will be a guest coming up this evening. Jeff Gidya
- 22:53Speaker 1: James Palmer with me twenty two is another quarterback pick.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Jeff on Charles Davis's mock draft, he has them going
- 23:02Speaker 1: handing Hooker, which is fascinating in light of that Open
- 23:06Speaker 1: day press conference today. What do you think? Well, I
- 23:10Speaker 1: think every time we do a segment talking about the
- 23:12Speaker 1: mock drafts on our network, there's always controversy with the
- 23:15Speaker 1: Baltimore Ravens. Last week of his Lands their line of
- 23:17Speaker 1: having them trading up to get Anthony Richardson, and now
- 23:20Speaker 1: it's this pick by Charles Davis. I just find it
- 23:23Speaker 1: hard to believe that after O b J sign and
- 23:26Speaker 1: maybe Charles had this all laid out before he did
- 23:28Speaker 1: his mock draft, that this is what's going to happen.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I know there's a ton of buzzer around Hiden Hooker.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I love him a lot, but you're talking about a
- 23:35Speaker 1: quarterbacks coming off in Ahl who is obviously not going
- 23:40Speaker 1: to be playing football next season. They're not expected to
- 23:42Speaker 1: play football next season, and so I don't know. I
- 23:46Speaker 1: think Charles Davis is kind of reaching here. I think
- 23:48Speaker 1: I like Lamar Jackson playing quarterback for the Ravens and
- 23:50Speaker 1: the Ravens taking probably a defensive back or an edge
- 23:53Speaker 1: rusher with that pig. But I'll say this, if it
- 23:56Speaker 1: is a quarterback, and let's say it is Handed Hooker here,
- 23:59Speaker 1: unless they do a long term deal, we're going to
- 24:01Speaker 1: possibly be here next year doing this whole song and
- 24:05Speaker 1: dance again the offseason with LaMarche Bryant to it, Andrew
- 24:10Speaker 1: just saying, all right, James, what else stood out to
- 24:12Speaker 1: Charles Davis? Mock draft again on NFL dot Com right now,
- 24:15Speaker 1: front page, go check it out. I think with this
- 24:18Speaker 1: mock draft, Charles Davis could run for the mayor of
- 24:21Speaker 1: Detroit if you look at what he has the Lions
- 24:23Speaker 1: doing at eight and eighteen. I mean, if the Lions
- 24:27Speaker 1: come away with Jalen Carter at number eight, and obviously
- 24:30Speaker 1: there are some questions that need to be answered. He's
- 24:33Speaker 1: taken an official visit there, and Dan Campbell and Brad
- 24:35Speaker 1: Holmes has sat him down because we do know with
- 24:37Speaker 1: both of them, they've said it repeatedly publicly how important
- 24:40Speaker 1: football character is to the two of them in terms
- 24:43Speaker 1: of your passion for football, your leadership, your mental toughness,
- 24:46Speaker 1: your work ethic, all of those things. If all of
- 24:48Speaker 1: those are checked off, and they pull the trigger on
- 24:50Speaker 1: Jalen Carter and then down towards the bottom of the
- 24:53Speaker 1: first round, what is it eighteen they get Bijon Robinson.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I mean, that's DJ's third best prospect in this entire draft.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Many can compare him to I guess he even says
- 25:03Speaker 1: he models his game app are Barry Sanders. For this
- 25:06Speaker 1: would be Barry Sanders two point zero in Detroit. Those
- 25:08Speaker 1: would be two slam dunk picks for the Detroit lines.
- 25:12Speaker 1: And then when I went down and looked at the
- 25:14Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, because here's another team with two picks, and
- 25:17Speaker 1: I get van Ness and that makes sense. Lucas vanes
- 25:19Speaker 1: with Tan an edge rusher, the trenches for Howie Roseman.
- 25:22Speaker 1: But you get Jalen Hyatt to go along with all
- 25:25Speaker 1: of these other guys in AJ Brown and Davante Smith.
- 25:29Speaker 1: AJ Brown said an Eagle's franchise record for most receiving yards,
- 25:32Speaker 1: they were fourth in the NFL and receiving yards and
- 25:35Speaker 1: receiving touchdowns. They also have Dallas Goddard. My thought on this, Andrew,
- 25:38Speaker 1: is you make that pick because if you want to
- 25:41Speaker 1: go to the Super Bowl again and you want to
- 25:43Speaker 1: face the Kansas City Chiefs, you gotta keep up. So
- 25:45Speaker 1: I guess you put as many weapons around Jalen Hurts
- 25:48Speaker 1: as possible. But I thought that was a fascinating look
- 25:51Speaker 1: at what you could have as as Eagles offense in Philadelphia.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Charles Davis has done a lot of things. He's been
- 25:56Speaker 1: like an Olympic administrator. He's been an ad he's running,
- 26:00Speaker 1: he's done everything. He's been a broadcast. You tell me
- 26:02Speaker 1: he doesn't have a politician smile, Oh no. And Baseball
- 26:06Speaker 1: Tennessee sports information for stall. He's been in it like
- 26:09Speaker 1: he's done everything. Everything. He's one of my favorite people
- 26:13Speaker 1: on Earth. I never thought we'd suggest he'd be mayor
- 26:16Speaker 1: of Detroit on this show. Check out his mod draft
- 26:20Speaker 1: right now ont NFL dot com. Thank you, Jeff, thank you, James. Hey,
- 26:25Speaker 1: what's up? Draft friends, and welcome and signed the Path
- 26:28Speaker 1: to the Draft studio right lewis here with Bucky Brooks
- 26:30Speaker 1: and Cynthia Freeland and you know, our buddy lanzer Line
- 26:34Speaker 1: gave us a pretty interesting scenario to chew on with
- 26:38Speaker 1: his last mock draft with the Texans passing on a
- 26:42Speaker 1: quarterback at number two. So let's play that out a
- 26:45Speaker 1: bit here, Buck, What comes to mind? What happens if
- 26:48Speaker 1: Bryce Young goes one and the Texans say no to
- 26:51Speaker 1: a quarterback at two? Total chaos? Yeah, total chaos breaks out.
- 26:56Speaker 1: It messes up all the mod draft that we've had,
- 26:58Speaker 1: because we've all had either Bryce Young or c J
- 27:01Speaker 1: Strout going one or two, respectively. But if Bryce Young
- 27:04Speaker 1: goes and then the Texans decide not to take a quarterback,
- 27:07Speaker 1: CJ Strout is there for the Cardinals at three. The
- 27:10Speaker 1: Cardinals don't need a quarterback, so now they are open
- 27:13Speaker 1: for business. And look, it becomes a feeding frenzy for
- 27:17Speaker 1: them to figure out who they want to trade to
- 27:19Speaker 1: and which team wants to open up the coffers to
- 27:22Speaker 1: give it a draft capital to get their quarterback. We
- 27:24Speaker 1: talk about coffers. You need a trade partner, right. So,
- 27:27Speaker 1: as of right now, there are a bunch of teams
- 27:29Speaker 1: that are making like kind of fake smokescreen calls, going
- 27:31Speaker 1: like hey, what if, what if? What if? But they
- 27:34Speaker 1: all have these contingency plans in place. There are a
- 27:36Speaker 1: bunch of different trade charts that all these different teams use.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I think it would be kind of really prudent for
- 27:41Speaker 1: a GM to just kind of see what's give them
- 27:44Speaker 1: a little fake call, but like, maybe it's true, maybe
- 27:47Speaker 1: it's not most, but I think they got They gotta
- 27:49Speaker 1: try because obviously their main goal is to make us
- 27:52Speaker 1: all wrong. Well, and then there's that scenario like all right,
- 27:55Speaker 1: Nikisserio decides I'm not going to take a quarterback. Let
- 27:58Speaker 1: me see if I can get out of two and
- 28:00Speaker 1: make that the pick that people want to come up
- 28:03Speaker 1: and get to get CJ. Strout. So it does feel
- 28:06Speaker 1: like there's a lot of different options here, right Oh.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I mean, look, it really is. On the Houston Texans,
- 28:11Speaker 1: they have all the power in the cars because if
- 28:13Speaker 1: they trade out, they now allow someone else to jump
- 28:17Speaker 1: in front the arizon, the cardinners who've been working the
- 28:19Speaker 1: phones to try and get someone up there. We would
- 28:21Speaker 1: like to think that there's two quarterbacks CJ. Stroud and
- 28:23Speaker 1: Brush Young that are separated from everybody else. But maybe
- 28:27Speaker 1: maybe if somebody else did. Yeah, and obviously Bryce has
- 28:30Speaker 1: been the guy that seems to be at least be
- 28:33Speaker 1: trending towards that number one overall selection to the Carolina Panthers,
- 28:37Speaker 1: But who knows, Maybe it's CJ. Strout. Maybe then the
- 28:40Speaker 1: Texas get their guy at Bryce Young. But either way,
- 28:43Speaker 1: we're here for the drama, and until then, we've got
- 28:45Speaker 1: you covered right here on path of the Draft tonight,
- 28:48Speaker 1: be sure to join us very very special episode. As
- 28:51Speaker 1: we are sitting here two weeks from April twenty seventh exactly,
- 28:54Speaker 1: we're gonna let you know who will be in Kansas
- 28:57Speaker 1: City at the Draft, which prospects are gonna walk the
- 28:59Speaker 1: red carpet tonight. NFL Now is a production of the
