- 0:04Speaker 1: A podcast call twenty five whist stuck and they go
- 0:09Speaker 1: wearing a whist So, yeah, it's too bad, but what
- 0:12Speaker 1: did you expect? It's a podcast call twenty five whistles.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Blow the whistle? Do we ever keep track of how
- 0:21Speaker 2: many episodes we're in? Mike? Do we do that anymore?
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:24Speaker 2: One million, eighty two this season?
- 0:28Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 0:29Speaker 5: Thank good for us.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Where's the money was rolling in? Like we've done a bunch, No.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Eighty two that's a lot.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Hey guys, yeah, everybody out there listening. If you listen
- 0:37Speaker 5: to this, would you please subscribe on our own channel
- 0:40Speaker 5: and then uh, if you don't mind, give us a
- 0:42Speaker 5: review and then anything like that would be great.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Then tell your friends right, like, oh I listen to
- 0:46Speaker 4: this podcast, you should too?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Host it man?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah yeah please yeah, drop it into the group text.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah please guys, like, wait, I'll be honest, we need
- 0:53Speaker 2: to help. So yeah, thank you all for listening. I
- 0:56Speaker 2: do have an update if you're ready for an update,
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'm ready for an update on pick a ball situation.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Oh for those that are new, I post a video
- 1:05Speaker 2: on me just hitting a pickle ball and some troll
- 1:07Speaker 2: jumps up and goes you suck. I can tell you
- 1:09Speaker 2: suck because you didn't come up to the net, and
- 1:11Speaker 2: I'm like, bro. Then playing a tournament, it was like
- 1:13Speaker 2: the first day back after winter, and so I'm like,
- 1:15Speaker 2: let's go, let's play the game. Me and you thousand bucks.
- 1:17Speaker 2: All did was challenge the troll and apparently he's a
- 1:20Speaker 2: four year D one athlete and.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Whatever, I hear you.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Whatever, I'm willing to go against a four year D
- 1:27Speaker 2: one athlete.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Just to try to fight a troll boom.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Because I don't like people to jump in with negativity
- 1:31Speaker 2: for no reason. And I understand I'd probably the underdog
- 1:33Speaker 2: in this situation, but I don't care. And he's like,
- 1:35Speaker 2: here's my home court. But here's the thing. I said.
- 1:37Speaker 2: We'll play for money, but I don't want to get scammed.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I've been scammed more than once with money doing content
- 1:43Speaker 2: where I'm like, here's five hundred bucks and then it's
- 1:47Speaker 2: the wrong doesn't matter. How do I get the money
- 1:53Speaker 2: to somewhere and he gets the money to somewhere, Like
- 1:56Speaker 2: who's the somewhere?
- 1:57Speaker 4: Yeah, that's interesting because I do.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Not want to get scammed. And I'm also just not
- 2:02Speaker 2: gonna believe somebody because if we go up there we
- 2:05Speaker 2: go up there, or the underdogs all good, we take
- 2:08Speaker 2: the whole crew, we shoot it. I stand. I've never
- 2:11Speaker 2: said this. I stun a business. I know, I've never
- 2:14Speaker 2: actually said that. I don't know how I felt, but
- 2:17Speaker 2: I tried it. I don't want to go in and
- 2:20Speaker 2: be like, I'm not giving you the money.
- 2:22Speaker 4: So if you do like a Venmo account, right, it
- 2:26Speaker 4: doesn't matter whose it is. You have a Venmo account.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It shows that the money is in there, right it does.
- 2:32Speaker 2: But who gets to know the person that has the
- 2:35Speaker 2: Venmo account? Because if I were him, I wouldn't trust.
- 2:38Speaker 2: If I'm like, just send me the thousand bucks and
- 2:40Speaker 2: I'll hold it or one of my boys will hold it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I don't know that I would trust that. And if
- 2:44Speaker 2: he did the same thing, like send it here or
- 2:47Speaker 2: send it to something I have access to, that's me
- 2:49Speaker 2: getting scammed.
- 2:50Speaker 4: And then can we trust going all the way to Cleveland.
- 2:54Speaker 2: It's somewhere in Ohio? I think it's So.
- 2:55Speaker 4: We go all the way to Ohio and he doesn't
- 2:57Speaker 4: show up. Like, that's not good either, right, So we
- 2:59Speaker 4: need to have the money, but for anyone travels anywhere, correct.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So here's the challenge, because I want to do this,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and to me, it doesn't matter. It's not about winning
- 3:09Speaker 2: or losing. I want to win for sure, and I
- 3:10Speaker 2: want to win the money. But it's mostly like if
- 3:13Speaker 2: people are gonnatrol, they should be called out for it. Yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 2: I want to do it. I just need to do
- 3:19Speaker 2: it in a way that it's safe to put my
- 3:20Speaker 2: money somewhere. So think about this. This is going to
- 3:23Speaker 2: be the challenge or if you're listening and you know
- 3:24Speaker 2: how we could do this because he's like, let's go,
- 3:28Speaker 2: but I haven't responded yet because I don't know how
- 3:29Speaker 2: to do this without getting possibly scammed.
- 3:32Speaker 3: You couldn't do like the half and half? Right, five
- 3:35Speaker 3: hundred isn't it enough?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Where does it go?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's another I'm just yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I don't We both would have to do that. But
- 3:41Speaker 2: it's the same point. It's like, well, who's holding it,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and whoever's holding it if they're connected to one of
- 3:46Speaker 2: the two sides. I know we're trustworthy, but he doesn't
- 3:51Speaker 2: know that. And I don't even know who he is.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I don't even know his name.
- 3:54Speaker 4: You know what he looks like.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I have no idea what he looks like. I probably
- 3:57Speaker 2: don't want to know I probably intimidated as a four
- 3:58Speaker 2: year D one athlete, but I'm not scared to go
- 4:01Speaker 2: and play. I just don't want to get scammed. So
- 4:04Speaker 2: think about that, and if any listeners out there you
- 4:06Speaker 2: want to send me a DM at mister Bobby Bones
- 4:09Speaker 2: and let me know what we could do, that's awesome too.
- 4:12Speaker 2: But I also have to think about him going, I'm
- 4:13Speaker 2: not putting my money somewhere I don't know.
- 4:15Speaker 6: Yeah, so I mean you could go old school and
- 4:17Speaker 6: both get a money order and like send a picture
- 4:20Speaker 6: of the money order to the other person to prove
- 4:21Speaker 6: that it's that it's set.
- 4:23Speaker 2: But I think if I were trying, okay, then I
- 4:25Speaker 2: don't even know what a money order is. Then I
- 4:26Speaker 2: try to scam it myself. Then I go, okay, I
- 4:29Speaker 2: took a picture, and then I would just go and
- 4:30Speaker 2: take it back, right because if I'm putting it in
- 4:35Speaker 2: his name, but he may never get it. If I win,
- 4:38Speaker 2: he's not getting it.
- 4:39Speaker 4: It's true. I wish my dad was still alive.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Man.
- 4:42Speaker 4: He used to deal with people from Mexico that was
- 4:44Speaker 4: always like this was always the conversation, like how do
- 4:46Speaker 4: I get money?
- 4:47Speaker 2: Yeah, we would do money orders.
- 4:48Speaker 4: That's what we would do.
- 4:50Speaker 2: So that's where we are think about it. That's number
- 4:52Speaker 2: one here on the list. Number two. I do want
- 4:54Speaker 2: to talk about the toush push for a second. Oh
- 4:56Speaker 2: come on, do you think they should eliminate the tush
- 4:59Speaker 2: push before we get into what the teams? And again,
- 5:03Speaker 2: we're recording this on Thursdays, so when it comes out
- 5:05Speaker 2: on Friday there, I don't think they have voted by then.
- 5:08Speaker 2: M No.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I think there's just a lot of talk during the
- 5:11Speaker 3: combine stover look.
- 5:12Speaker 4: At the media, and I think is like in a
- 5:13Speaker 4: couple of weeks, okay, great, first the tush push.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Should it be banned Eddie?
- 5:20Speaker 4: No way, Jose. You do not punish a team or
- 5:25Speaker 4: a coach for coming up with this amazing play that
- 5:28Speaker 4: is pretty much unstoppable. I think it's awesome and there's
- 5:31Speaker 4: no excuse like it's a safety issue. It wasn't a
- 5:35Speaker 4: safety issue, Like, come on, football is a safety issue.
- 5:37Speaker 4: The tush push is awesome, it's genius, and it should
- 5:41Speaker 4: remain the way it is.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Thanks soccrates. Football is a safety issue. You got it
- 5:48Speaker 2: going athens like preaching.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Out of here. You hate it because you can't stop it.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Now it is frustrating. I get it. We've been on
- 5:55Speaker 4: the other side of the toush push. It's frustrating. But
- 5:58Speaker 4: as I don't know, man, they just somebody came up
- 6:00Speaker 4: with a great idea and it works.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Kevin, I say, no, let's not get wishy washing.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Go ahead, but maybe we could tweak it. Okay, So
- 6:10Speaker 3: what about tweaking it? Like they've lined everybody up on
- 6:14Speaker 3: the line, they have two guys behind them to push them.
- 6:16Speaker 3: You're only allowed one guy behind them, and then another
- 6:19Speaker 3: guy's got to go out as wide receiver. Okay, So
- 6:21Speaker 3: you got to tweak the alignment okay, and the formation
- 6:25Speaker 3: a little bit to maybe give a little less advantage.
- 6:27Speaker 3: So it makes every other team happy and still makes
- 6:30Speaker 3: Eagles like Okay, we could still do it with a
- 6:32Speaker 3: little tweak.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Here can ask a question about that. Yeah, do we
- 6:35Speaker 2: really think that two people pushing effects it more than
- 6:38Speaker 2: one person?
- 6:39Speaker 3: No, but it's still making this GM happy and the
- 6:42Speaker 3: other around the league happy and making everybody happy.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Yours is more of a diplomatic give than something that
- 6:48Speaker 2: would actually change the toush push.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm with you, Yeah, and I agree with both of you,
- 6:53Speaker 2: and that the Eagles kind of discovered it. Sure did
- 6:57Speaker 2: their thing, and everybody else is just mad because they
- 6:58Speaker 2: can't do the thing. And people have tried. Buffalo, I
- 7:01Speaker 2: think was number two. They did it far less, but
- 7:02Speaker 2: Buffalo was number two. But then playoff Buffalo couldn'tven get
- 7:04Speaker 2: it to work five times. I think it's didn't even
- 7:07Speaker 2: get at the work. So I'll give you my answer.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I'll read you the story first from ESPN. The mystery
- 7:12Speaker 2: team proposing a ban of the Eagles Push Push is
- 7:15Speaker 2: the Packers, which, by the way, they don't even play them,
- 7:19Speaker 2: I mean once maybe. I mean imagine if you're also
- 7:21Speaker 2: over in the NFC East, you have to play him twice.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But the NFL's EVP of Football Operations, Troy Vincent, initially
- 7:28Speaker 2: chose not to identify the team, but Packers GM Brian
- 7:32Speaker 2: Guda Kuntz later owned it. At the NFL Combine, he
- 7:35Speaker 2: admitted the Packers quote hadn't been very successful against it,
- 7:38Speaker 2: and he expects quote a lot of discussions about it.
- 7:40Speaker 2: One of those discussions might be that teams should figure
- 7:42Speaker 2: out how to defend it instead of outright banning it,
- 7:44Speaker 2: a move that Eagles coach Nick Sirianne says would be
- 7:46Speaker 2: unfair to his team from again ESPN, I'm gonna say
- 7:50Speaker 2: ban it. Ooh, and not for the reasons that you
- 7:52Speaker 2: guys say, because I agree with both of you, Like
- 7:55Speaker 2: the Eagles came up with something nobody can stop it.
- 7:58Speaker 2: You got it, buddy. It's terribly boring for television, and
- 8:01Speaker 2: I'm always a this is a television show because that's
- 8:06Speaker 2: where the money is product first, So if you were
- 8:09Speaker 2: just playing it wasn't on TV.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Great.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I don't think the Eagles cheated. I think it's a
- 8:13Speaker 2: great idea, but it's boring to watch because there really
- 8:16Speaker 2: is no drama on a fourth and one when the
- 8:18Speaker 2: Eagles have the ball. So I think it was wildly smart.
- 8:24Speaker 2: But if I'm only speaking selfishly and as a network
- 8:28Speaker 2: executive or as the NFL that cares about television, I
- 8:31Speaker 2: probably am not allowing it unless there are certain things
- 8:34Speaker 2: like you can only tush push inside the five, like
- 8:37Speaker 2: I think there are modifications that you can make the
- 8:40Speaker 2: tush push inside the five, or you get two tush
- 8:43Speaker 2: pushes a game like challenges like in my Madden League
- 8:48Speaker 2: that we play in because the quarterback sneak it's kind
- 8:52Speaker 2: of a glitch where you can get it to work
- 8:53Speaker 2: almost every time for two yards. It's not even the tushpush.
- 8:56Speaker 2: You just quarterback sneak. You know you're gonna get two yards.
- 9:00Speaker 2: We can only quarterbacks sneak twice a game in a
- 9:03Speaker 2: user game we're playing another player. If we're playing the computer,
- 9:06Speaker 2: we do it all day. But we can only quarterbacks
- 9:08Speaker 2: sneak twice a game because it's a bit of a glitch.
- 9:10Speaker 2: But I would say the Eagles toushbush is a bit
- 9:11Speaker 2: of a glitch. They figured it out. So for television
- 9:15Speaker 2: reasons only, I don't like the toush push being able
- 9:20Speaker 2: to be done on the thirty eight yard line and
- 9:22Speaker 2: six times in a game. So I'm gonna say no
- 9:26Speaker 2: toush push. Oh but we want to touch push. We're
- 9:28Speaker 2: being okay, let's compromise. You get to a game, that's it,
- 9:31Speaker 2: or tushbush all you want inside the five.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Dang, that's such a better compromise of money.
- 9:37Speaker 2: But if I'm not compromising, I'm just going no tush
- 9:39Speaker 2: push for television reasons because admit it's boring.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's boring. But you know what's not boring
- 9:45Speaker 4: is when a team hires a physics professor to figure
- 9:49Speaker 4: out the physics of how to stop something like this,
- 9:52Speaker 4: and they actually stop it.
- 9:53Speaker 2: That's boring. If somebody's hiring a physics the football, that's boring, dude.
- 9:56Speaker 4: But if they stop it, all right.
- 9:58Speaker 2: But they can't, nobody can.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Persistently, somebody is going to figure out how to stop it.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I don't think it's a physics thing. I don't think so, no,
- 10:05Speaker 2: because I think it's a quarterback that has very strong
- 10:08Speaker 2: legs and a center that has a very strong butt,
- 10:14Speaker 2: and players that have now run it and know how
- 10:16Speaker 2: to do it and not be injured. I don't think
- 10:18Speaker 2: it's a physics thing.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Then maybe, like you get all of your linemen on
- 10:22Speaker 4: your team, backups and everything, and forget the secondary whenever
- 10:25Speaker 4: they show toush push, Your biggest men on the field.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Can't do that unless you're substitute. Like they can't substitute
- 10:32Speaker 2: on defense unless the offense substitutes.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Really didn't know that I changed that, then.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah's that rule. I think it's hilarious. I love the
- 10:41Speaker 2: toush push if it's my team, So I don't thinkre's
- 10:43Speaker 2: anything wrong with it. But I I'm bored by it.
- 10:46Speaker 2: And so the NFL does not want people to be
- 10:48Speaker 2: bored by anything, which is why they protect their quarterbacks.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Sure, it is a matter of time. You would think
- 10:55Speaker 3: that what they ban it?
- 10:56Speaker 2: And it well, and remember two years ago, you couldn't
- 10:59Speaker 2: use your hands or your body to influence anybody going forward. Yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 2: you could push them, grab them, you couldn't pull. That
- 11:06Speaker 2: was a rule. It's not as much anymore because the
- 11:08Speaker 2: toush push is just that everybody leaning in and maybe
- 11:10Speaker 2: you just do tush push, but there's nobody pushing the tush.
- 11:12Speaker 2: It's just a quarterback sneak. But then it's just a
- 11:13Speaker 2: quarterback sneak. Yeah, so there's only no tush in the push.
- 11:19Speaker 2: But I'm gonna go ban it because I'm bored by it.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Next up Gronk maybe coming back to the NFL.
- 11:25Speaker 4: No stop it. He can't. He looks like.
- 11:28Speaker 3: He sees Travis Kelsey's like I can do.
- 11:30Speaker 4: He looks like broken down RoboCop, like his last season
- 11:34Speaker 4: with the Bucks, like he just it looked like if
- 11:37Speaker 4: he got hit hard, he was not gonna get back up.
- 11:40Speaker 3: He always looked like that though when he was younger.
- 11:43Speaker 2: He's only thirty five. Well, yeah, that's great, and that's
- 11:46Speaker 2: on the older end, but it's not like he's forty
- 11:48Speaker 2: three and he is a monster. A new report suggests
- 11:51Speaker 2: that future Hall of Fame tied end Rob Gronkowski may
- 11:54Speaker 2: not yet be done. The four time Super Bowl champion
- 11:57Speaker 2: is working out in Vail, Colorado, and his contempl retiring
- 12:01Speaker 2: from retirement. These same sources say that Gronk has liked
- 12:06Speaker 2: what he's seen from Broncos quarterback Bo Nicks, and also
- 12:10Speaker 2: the Bengals are one of the teams they think he
- 12:12Speaker 2: could go to. Interesting, He's not gonna go to the Patriots.
- 12:14Speaker 2: He's not gonna go to the Bucks. He went to
- 12:16Speaker 2: the Bucks for Brady's not going to the Patriots cause
- 12:17Speaker 2: they suck. If you're Gronk and you're gonna go play,
- 12:19Speaker 2: you're gonna go play at somebody who gives you a
- 12:21Speaker 2: chance to win a champion championship. So that would be fun.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I think that would be extremely hard for him to do,
- 12:29Speaker 2: being out of the league for so long. Yeah, when
- 12:31Speaker 2: you're known for being such a physical player, it's probably
- 12:36Speaker 2: hard to jump back in and be as physical. Because
- 12:38Speaker 2: it wasn't like he was known for his precision.
- 12:41Speaker 3: No did his body. I mean it took a toll
- 12:46Speaker 3: towards the end was like one hit will be like, Okay,
- 12:49Speaker 3: I'm good on this.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Actually I don't know, dude, he's huge.
- 12:52Speaker 3: He is a monster.
- 12:53Speaker 4: You met him? No, did we see him at the
- 12:58Speaker 4: super Bowl? He was there at Radio Row, but I
- 13:01Speaker 4: don't know any of us ever saw him. I never
- 13:02Speaker 4: saw him, because I did see videos later that he
- 13:04Speaker 4: was there.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Okay, so you're saying you didn't seehim a person, you
- 13:07Speaker 2: just knew he was in the same place three points
- 13:08Speaker 2: because I was saying, is he mass. I have a
- 13:10Speaker 2: really good friend that's really good friends with them, and
- 13:13Speaker 2: a couple of times he's been like are you here,
- 13:14Speaker 2: I'm here with Gronk and like I want to talk
- 13:16Speaker 2: to gronk sister. Once for a birthday random.
- 13:19Speaker 3: I sent her a video Yeah, like cameo or my.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Friend that's friends with Gronk was like, hey, Gronk's sister
- 13:26Speaker 2: is here. He doesn't call him, Gronk tells him Rob Basically,
- 13:30Speaker 2: he's like, gronk sister is here. She's a big fan
- 13:32Speaker 2: of her birthday we're doing. Would you sent her a
- 13:33Speaker 2: video saying happy birthday? So I just sent him a
- 13:35Speaker 2: video of me going hey, Gronk sister wasn't her name,
- 13:37Speaker 2: but yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I know it's not the same. But we saw Jimmy Graham.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Oh he was at the stage right next to us
- 13:43Speaker 3: at one point. He was tall and just like.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Yeah, when when you when those guys look big on
- 13:49Speaker 4: the field, you know they're just ginormous.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, because they're up against other big people. Like
- 13:55Speaker 2: when I met Eli Manning years ago. Eli Manning doesn't
- 13:57Speaker 2: look big on the field. Eli Manning as a monster,
- 14:01Speaker 2: And that's just being even with those people. When someone
- 14:03Speaker 2: it's a great point when someone looks big, even on
- 14:05Speaker 2: the field, they're huge. I was blown away by the
- 14:10Speaker 2: Rams offensive lineman he came on the show. Yeah, Andrew Whitworth,
- 14:14Speaker 2: blown away with how massive he was. He's basketball player height,
- 14:19Speaker 2: professional basketball player height. And then offensive lineman waight, Yeah,
- 14:23Speaker 2: I don't know how you get around that.
- 14:24Speaker 3: And Cam Hayward he was a monster. Yeah, I knew
- 14:27Speaker 3: was scary looking.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Do you remember him.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I do remember him, because I don't know he was
- 14:30Speaker 2: at first, but I would say he was scary looking
- 14:33Speaker 2: in that he was big, and oh my god, she
- 14:36Speaker 2: was huge, angry. Yeah, but he I don't think he
- 14:40Speaker 2: was like Wentworth's size, because I don't think he was
- 14:42Speaker 2: as tall.
- 14:43Speaker 4: No, no, he's not as tall as Whitworth. Whitworth was
- 14:46Speaker 4: like you can see him in a sea of people
- 14:47Speaker 4: and his head is above everyone else.
- 14:49Speaker 2: He okay, get this, he's three hundred and thirty one pounds.
- 14:55Speaker 4: Boy.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and then six seven to he's got to be
- 15:00Speaker 2: at least yeah, he's got he's six seven six seven
- 15:04Speaker 2: three point thirty. That's like Gladiator. That's like back in
- 15:07Speaker 2: the day, he'd been in the middle of the coliseum,
- 15:09Speaker 2: like fighting people because he's so big. Huh yeah wild.
- 15:14Speaker 2: They ranked the best dunkers in NBA history. Now I've
- 15:18Speaker 2: seen the list, so unfair, but I think I can do.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Had I not seen the list, I can give you
- 15:23Speaker 2: a rough overview who I said. I have been wrong
- 15:25Speaker 2: on some of them because I would have only been
- 15:26Speaker 2: going from slam dunk contests from being a kid, so
- 15:30Speaker 2: I would have picked people like Spud Weeb. He won
- 15:33Speaker 2: it in like eighty four, I think, and he was
- 15:36Speaker 2: five foot six and he wasn't the best dunker, but
- 15:38Speaker 2: the fact that someone that small could dunk, which I
- 15:40Speaker 2: thought was crazy, Like I would have thought of Spud
- 15:42Speaker 2: web just some of the dunk contest winners I think about,
- 15:45Speaker 2: like d Brown, he did the look into the arm Celtics.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was like in a big Sports illustrated
- 15:49Speaker 2: fold out like that was cool. But he wasn't like
- 15:51Speaker 2: a crazy good NBA player that was dunking all the
- 15:54Speaker 2: time in games. I would have picked Dominique Wilkins because
- 15:57Speaker 2: how angry he was when he dunked in games. And
- 16:00Speaker 2: it slam dunk contest obviously. I had to pick Michael
- 16:03Speaker 2: Jordan just because he has very famous dunks and he
- 16:07Speaker 2: dunked a lot, but he has some really famous and
- 16:09Speaker 2: his logo is a dunk.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Yes, it is the Jumpman's a dunk.
- 16:15Speaker 2: No, right, that picture didn't come from him dunking.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Yeah, but Hugh did it at some point I remember,
- 16:21Speaker 4: like maybe he recreated or something, maybe during a slam
- 16:24Speaker 4: dunk contest, but he did do the but the picture
- 16:27Speaker 4: was first Yeah, I bet you're right about that.
- 16:29Speaker 2: And the picture was not him dunking. It was just
- 16:31Speaker 2: like him jumping. Yeah, something weird, like it wasn't even
- 16:36Speaker 2: yet Mike, would you mind looking that up?
- 16:39Speaker 4: Or or could it be a celebration, like you know
- 16:42Speaker 4: how you jump up and fist pumping.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I feel like it was something contrived and set up,
- 16:48Speaker 2: but it wasn't a dunk Michael find it. Oh we'll
- 16:51Speaker 2: mention a minute. So that had been who had to
- 16:52Speaker 2: put on the list, and of that I would have
- 16:55Speaker 2: only gotten Jordan and Dominique. So when I say best
- 17:02Speaker 2: dunkers of all time five, six, seven, eight, remember they
- 17:07Speaker 2: didn't even dunk until like forty years ago, like in
- 17:10Speaker 2: the early black and white days. He had a couple
- 17:12Speaker 2: and that was like crazy. It was all like white
- 17:15Speaker 2: guy plumbers and you know they weren't dunking. But who
- 17:17Speaker 2: comes to you guys's mind, is this one's one I
- 17:20Speaker 2: should have got?
- 17:20Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 17:21Speaker 2: Uh have you seen the list?
- 17:22Speaker 7: No?
- 17:22Speaker 4: I haven't.
- 17:23Speaker 3: The first person that pops in my mind who wanted
- 17:24Speaker 3: me to go yeah, Vince Carter.
- 17:26Speaker 2: That's exactly who I saw. Was like, how did I
- 17:27Speaker 2: miss Vince Carter?
- 17:28Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:29Speaker 2: And then because Vince Carter dunked all the time on
- 17:32Speaker 2: everybody big or small, and he.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Had like the greatest dunk contest of all time. Yeah yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 3: in my memory.
- 17:38Speaker 4: At least more than better than mclung.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I mean there's no car.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Involved, there was no.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Three pt Mike what'd you find. Yeah, it was just
- 17:46Speaker 2: during a photo shoot. He just jumped up in a
- 17:49Speaker 2: photo show.
- 17:49Speaker 6: And they were taking a picture and he's like, I'm
- 17:50Speaker 6: gonna do a ballet move and that's what it was.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Good, fine, good, fine, good fine, Okay. Vince Carter on
- 17:57Speaker 2: the list. Sean Kemp, great call, did make the list.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Hard dunker like that Mother Africa dunks with Sean Eddie.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Uh, Mailman karme alone.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah he could he mean he could dunk.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember I had a poster where he was
- 18:17Speaker 4: dunk in this cier is not.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Not on not on the list. List is bro Bible
- 18:20Speaker 2: on a bunch people that had contributed to it not
- 18:22Speaker 2: saying you're wrong, Hey he could dunk.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Man, he could dunk, you know.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Sorry, go ahead.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Another one.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I'm thinking kind of underrated in his game because he's
- 18:30Speaker 3: such a great player. But Kobe Bryant could dunk. Hey,
- 18:32Speaker 3: there's down some good ones.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Kobe did not make the list. Uh, this is
- 18:36Speaker 2: one that I should have thought of and didn't because
- 18:38Speaker 2: it's recent enough to play Griffin.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Oh yeah, a lot of city, yes, him and Chris Paul. Yeah,
- 18:45Speaker 3: it was nasty.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yes, it was all dunked, all time. Yeah, like I
- 18:48Speaker 2: would have missed that one and then I would have
- 18:50Speaker 2: hated myself for it. Okay, anybody else?
- 18:54Speaker 3: How many do we have?
- 18:55Speaker 2: Left a lot too? And I'll say this, one of
- 18:59Speaker 2: them still plays. Two of them are in our lifetime
- 19:04Speaker 2: of watching basketball, and one is not so go old
- 19:08Speaker 2: old school, old old. We never watched your Jay, correct,
- 19:11Speaker 2: Julia Servin, that's good, Kevin three left one one plays
- 19:20Speaker 2: right now, John Marin. Oh, that's a good one though,
- 19:26Speaker 2: because that dude flies out of everywhere. He's so fast
- 19:29Speaker 2: and he dunks on people all sizes.
- 19:32Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Russell Westburg go more more famous, way more famous? Oh, Lebron, Yes, yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 4: We're so dumb.
- 19:46Speaker 3: We're thinking too much.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:48Speaker 2: The other two, I don't think you're going to get
- 19:50Speaker 2: just by guessing. I'll say one of them a very
- 19:53Speaker 2: famous Phoenix son, not Charles Barkley, a very famous Phoenix son.
- 19:57Speaker 2: We saw and Nick and Nick maristmar yes, Maricenemer he
- 20:02Speaker 2: was awesome. Yeah, he was awesome. And the other one
- 20:05Speaker 2: Jason Richardson, Oh yeah, Jay.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Richards Oh you know Richard did he played for Golden State.
- 20:12Speaker 2: He was bouncing, he bounced around Golden State, was I
- 20:14Speaker 2: wondered who he thought, who you saw him playing with,
- 20:16Speaker 2: because I thought Golden State too.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I affiliated. But I know he bounced around.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Okay, cool, everybody feel good about that. Yeah, we got
- 20:29Speaker 2: a guest coming up in a second. We like talking
- 20:31Speaker 2: college basketball, and he's been losing a lot of money
- 20:33Speaker 2: in college basketball.
- 20:34Speaker 4: Actually, I made some good money on Florida the other
- 20:36Speaker 4: night that Florida was down. Uh, they were playing Georgia,
- 20:42Speaker 4: which George is a little sneaky team.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Man, Georgia. Yeah, but they kind of sucked, but they Okay,
- 20:46Speaker 2: Sneaky's a good point because they can't win a game.
- 20:48Speaker 2: But they're not gonna win a lot of games.
- 20:49Speaker 4: There are a handfuls of sneaky teams, which I love.
- 20:51Speaker 4: At this time of the year, I'm like starting to
- 20:53Speaker 4: collect my little notes.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Of like, watch they're not making the tournament though, well Georgia, but.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Just because they're in the SEC. Probably, But you know,
- 21:00Speaker 4: like Texas A and M. Sneaky team, good sneaky team.
- 21:04Speaker 4: I next this A and M.
- 21:05Speaker 2: They don't play offense. I mean they do, they have to,
- 21:07Speaker 2: but they beat people up defensively where that hurts you
- 21:11Speaker 2: in the tournament though, is if you can't play offense. Yeah,
- 21:14Speaker 2: and the refs are very consistent in the tournament because
- 21:18Speaker 2: they are great at every game to see if they
- 21:21Speaker 2: get to move on to the next game. So there's
- 21:23Speaker 2: no hey, we're going to play it this way tonight,
- 21:24Speaker 2: which kind of happens around the country in different leagues
- 21:27Speaker 2: and by different refs. They know they're getting great to
- 21:29Speaker 2: go to the next game. So if you're a great
- 21:31Speaker 2: defensive team, that helps. But if you have no offense
- 21:33Speaker 2: at times because of how they're calling the game, you
- 21:35Speaker 2: can really get yourself in trouble. I've watched too much SEC.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I can like break down all the times. I'm sorry interrupt,
- 21:39Speaker 2: I'm ahead, No, it's good.
- 21:40Speaker 4: But anyway, Florida was playing Georgia and they were down
- 21:43Speaker 4: by twenty points. So I was like, come on, this
- 21:45Speaker 4: cannot in this way. So I got them at plus ten,
- 21:48Speaker 4: plus eight, plus five. It was one of those games
- 21:51Speaker 4: you know where I'm like, I gotta just keep going,
- 21:52Speaker 4: keep going, keep going. And they lost by four points.
- 21:55Speaker 2: So you hit that.
- 21:56Speaker 4: I hit all three of them. I'm like, let's go.
- 21:58Speaker 2: By ribbon to something on Instagram that I wanted to
- 22:03Speaker 2: bring up and that's how I save a lot of
- 22:04Speaker 2: my stuff. Now is I ribbon it?
- 22:05Speaker 7: Mike?
- 22:06Speaker 2: How do I find my ribbons? Instagram has changed.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Should be able to go to your bookmarks and your profile?
- 22:11Speaker 4: Oh was that what? The ribbon is a bookmark? That
- 22:13Speaker 4: makes sense?
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't know what he was talking about.
- 22:16Speaker 2: The first the three.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Dots on the side on the top right of your profile.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I so the three slashes, now, yeah, the slashes. Okay,
- 22:23Speaker 2: settings and activity. We're gonna do this together, and you
- 22:25Speaker 2: should see the saved boom, got it? Thank you? That's
- 22:29Speaker 2: where it is.
- 22:29Speaker 4: What are you looking for?
- 22:30Speaker 2: I had saved this thing that DraftKings had done. It
- 22:33Speaker 2: was AI predicts where these free agents will end up.
- 22:38Speaker 2: So number one, T Higgins. This is AI that that predicted.
- 22:42Speaker 2: They typed all this crap in and gave all the scenarios. Uh,
- 22:46Speaker 2: T Higgins to the Carolina Panthers. But that'd be about money, right,
- 22:52Speaker 2: because if the Bengals don't because they have Burrow, they're
- 22:56Speaker 2: paying him a ton. They have three other players and
- 23:00Speaker 2: that's four they're going to do four with basically max contracts,
- 23:04Speaker 2: two wide receivers obviously one edge and they said they
- 23:10Speaker 2: may have to with Higgins do the one year franchise,
- 23:15Speaker 2: franchise tag him and he doesn't want to be tagged,
- 23:19Speaker 2: So they say the Panthers Digs to the.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Cowboys Stefan with a B.
- 23:24Speaker 2: That'd be cool, that would together, that would be cool.
- 23:26Speaker 4: This is a I too, by the way.
- 23:27Speaker 2: They Cooper Cup to the Chargers. That'd be easy. Yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 2: stay done, you got to move stays there, Amari Cooper
- 23:33Speaker 2: to the Ravens. They could use him. Yeah, I feel
- 23:37Speaker 2: like he'd be better though there too, because the Cowboys suck.
- 23:40Speaker 4: He wasn't with the Cowboys.
- 23:42Speaker 2: He was with when he was though. Yeah, Yeah, that's
- 23:44Speaker 2: the last time I saw him play consistently put Browns.
- 23:47Speaker 2: The Browns didn't counted on the bills he didn't and
- 23:50Speaker 2: the Browns didn't count because they would have a quarterback.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 2: So like, I feel like the last time I saw
- 23:53Speaker 2: him have a chance with the Cowboys and they didn't.
- 23:56Speaker 2: They sucked. No offense, dude. Keenan Allen to the Chiefs.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Oh gosh, he just gets hurt.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Debo to the Steelers. Oh Man, Chris god one of
- 24:08Speaker 2: the Jaguars. Devanta Adams to the Lions. Yeah, if I'm
- 24:15Speaker 2: Devanta Adams. I'd like that.
- 24:17Speaker 4: That awesome.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you want to do quarterbacks real quick? This
- 24:21Speaker 2: is not AI, this is US. Where will they end up?
- 24:24Speaker 2: Where will they end up? Let's go fear with the
- 24:25Speaker 2: Matthew Stafford. He wants fifty million bucks. Rams are like,
- 24:28Speaker 2: I don't think we're gonna give it to you, Matthew Stafford.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna say Stafford ends up. So I think it's
- 24:35Speaker 2: Giants or Raiders. I think Giants are probably the leader
- 24:41Speaker 2: right now, with the Raiders being number two out of
- 24:44Speaker 2: the Rams. I'm not going to pay fifty million.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Bucks, and who needs a quarterback? So Giants, Giants, and
- 24:48Speaker 4: the Raiders.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I think the other teams aren't going to pay fifty
- 24:51Speaker 2: million bucks though. So I think those are the two options.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Two options that will pay him. Trade a decent draft pick,
- 24:56Speaker 2: because it's not we're just gonna take him and pay him.
- 24:58Speaker 2: It's you got to pay him if you get him,
- 25:00Speaker 2: because he wants longer than a one year deal. Yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 2: so it's what pick can you give up? I think
- 25:05Speaker 2: the Raiders have six and the Giants have maybe two
- 25:08Speaker 2: or three. Yeah, so you're gonna probably trade. That's what
- 25:12Speaker 2: the hope is that first round pick. I can't see
- 25:14Speaker 2: anybody trading that pick. Maybe a second and third rounder,
- 25:17Speaker 2: but I think Stafford's probably a giant.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I would go to the Giants. That's all I
- 25:20Speaker 3: was gonna say.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Outside shot a Raider. Kirk Cousins, Tennessee, I'm gonna say,
- 25:26Speaker 2: I want to say Cleveland. Stefanski was his play caller
- 25:29Speaker 2: in Minnesota, and Kirk Cousins can do what we just
- 25:36Speaker 2: saw happen from Denver to Pittsburgh with Russ Wilson, where
- 25:41Speaker 2: Russ was guaranteed all the money, so he took the
- 25:43Speaker 2: minimum to go to Pittsburgh so it didn't hit their
- 25:45Speaker 2: cap at all. And because the Browns, oh massage man
- 25:50Speaker 2: ninety million bucks or whatever this son, Yeah, they can
- 25:56Speaker 2: take Cousins minimally. He still gets his money if he's
- 25:59Speaker 2: not staying. A backup they're now saying. The Falcons are
- 26:02Speaker 2: still saying the backup.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no way.
- 26:04Speaker 2: If he stays, they can pay him ninety million in
- 26:06Speaker 2: one year or fifty for two, or they can figure
- 26:10Speaker 2: out how to trade him. And if they figure out
- 26:12Speaker 2: to trade him to Cleveland, that also maybe gets Miles
- 26:14Speaker 2: Garrett to stay, because Miles Garrett's like, I'm out of here.
- 26:18Speaker 2: We're not even trying. And he can go for a
- 26:20Speaker 2: few hundred thousand bucks and still make all the same
- 26:22Speaker 2: money because of what he's owed in Atlanta, and he
- 26:25Speaker 2: has a relationship with Stefanski. So that's my pick.
- 26:29Speaker 3: It's pretty good pick, though, I was gonna say, you're
- 26:31Speaker 3: pretty in depth. I mean, I just said the Titans random.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Guess Aaron Rodgers that's home, like he's going home. I'm
- 26:42Speaker 2: gonna pick the Rams if Stafford leaves. And if Stafford
- 26:48Speaker 2: goes somewhere and they get some decent picks, I think
- 26:50Speaker 2: they probably draft their next quarterback. And Aaron Rodgers is
- 26:53Speaker 2: there for a year maybe two, and that's the system,
- 26:56Speaker 2: he'd probably do really well. And because everybody does, so
- 27:01Speaker 2: I'm gonna say the Rams. If Stafford isn't there, I
- 27:03Speaker 2: don't know what the Titan's gonna do. I hope the
- 27:04Speaker 2: Titans don't bring Rogers here. So if Stafford doesn't leave,
- 27:06Speaker 2: then where's Rogers go? Prie the Titans? But that's annoying
- 27:09Speaker 2: for us.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and why would you want to come here just
- 27:12Speaker 3: to play house?
- 27:13Speaker 4: He's got a house here.
- 27:14Speaker 2: He's not gonna like you guys, don't worry.
- 27:15Speaker 4: I got a house.
- 27:16Speaker 2: We're good to know the yard. Dude, stay there, Stay there,
- 27:19Speaker 2: You're not gonna do anything else. Stay there. We're all good.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Other quarterbacks that can be moving around? Can you think
- 27:23Speaker 2: of any other ones?
- 27:25Speaker 7: Oh?
- 27:26Speaker 2: Sam Donald?
- 27:26Speaker 4: Oh yeah, are the Seahawks gonna keep Gino?
- 27:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 27:32Speaker 3: What about the Steelers?
- 27:35Speaker 2: So Rogers to the Steelers is also a thing though, Yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 2: but I have not heard Donald to the Steelers at all.
- 27:41Speaker 2: So Donald could really end up back in Minnesota. Probably not, though,
- 27:45Speaker 2: because I don't think they're gonna pay him, especially because
- 27:47Speaker 2: we talked to Kevin O'Connell the other not ours, but
- 27:49Speaker 2: the head coach, and just hearing him talk was like, Hey,
- 27:52Speaker 2: we're gonna let him see what his value is to me.
- 27:55Speaker 2: That's we're gonna probably lose him. Yeah, I mean I
- 27:59Speaker 2: think the.
- 28:01Speaker 3: For Darnald, we're still right. Yeah, the Raiders would be.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Good if Stafford doesn't go there. I think you have
- 28:07Speaker 2: a couple of pieces of their affecting other pieces. But
- 28:09Speaker 2: I think the Raiders is good. Okay, Uh interview coming
- 28:12Speaker 2: up in a second. Let's get into our conversation with
- 28:21Speaker 2: Grant McCasland, head basketball coach at Texas Tech. You know,
- 28:27Speaker 2: I oddly like all Texas Tech teams. There's no reason
- 28:33Speaker 2: for me to dislike them, but I think I like
- 28:36Speaker 2: Texas Tech because I'm an Arkansas fan. Now that doesn't
- 28:40Speaker 2: mean all Arkansas fans like Texas Tech specifically, but Texas
- 28:45Speaker 2: Tech is like the school that's kind of got a
- 28:46Speaker 2: grind in that state, meaning you got Ut, you got
- 28:50Speaker 2: Texas A and m Man, you got a lot of
- 28:52Speaker 2: big Texas schools, and I feel like Texas Tech is
- 28:54Speaker 2: like not so much in the shadow, but like they're
- 28:58Speaker 2: always like I gotta punch at stra hard for people
- 29:00Speaker 2: to pay attention, and that's what I feel like we
- 29:02Speaker 2: have to do at Arkansas. So like I generally have
- 29:05Speaker 2: a positive feeling towards Texas Tech athletics for that reason.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Love football coach, loved this basketball coach. I mean Grant McCaslin.
- 29:15Speaker 2: He has been a winner before taking over in Lubbock.
- 29:17Speaker 2: He led North Texas to an NIT championship at twenty
- 29:20Speaker 2: twenty three and their first ever NCUBA Tournament win. Massive
- 29:24Speaker 2: deal in North Texas through ten seasons as an NCAA
- 29:27Speaker 2: head coach, mccastlin's now two hundred and thirty four and
- 29:31Speaker 2: one hundred, and he's won seventy eight and eighty eight
- 29:34Speaker 2: at the Division one level. I mean, just some fun facts.
- 29:38Speaker 2: The twenty twenty Conference USA Coach of the Year, three
- 29:40Speaker 2: straight Conference USA championships, over seven hundred career winning percentage.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I could go on and on. This year, Texas Tech
- 29:47Speaker 2: kind of rocking. Twenty one and seven. Right now, they're
- 29:50Speaker 2: third in the Big twelve. They're playing Kansas on Saturday.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Then they finished with Colorado and at Arizona State. Lenardi
- 29:57Speaker 2: has at a two, like a bottom two or an
- 30:01Speaker 2: early three right now in the bracket. But I love
- 30:04Speaker 2: this dude. I liked them until we talked with them,
- 30:08Speaker 2: and then I'm like, I'm in I'm in here. He
- 30:11Speaker 2: is my new friend. Coach Grant mccaslan. Hey, coach, that's
- 30:16Speaker 2: a pretty sick hoodie you have on. By the way,
- 30:19Speaker 2: that's a good one.
- 30:20Speaker 7: You want one, Yeah, I'll send you one.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Oh, he's a shameless coach.
- 30:23Speaker 2: No, No, that Melbourne.
- 30:25Speaker 7: When you got a little best you got a little.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Got a little Malbourne card again. You play golf too?
- 30:29Speaker 2: What's going on? Coach man?
- 30:32Speaker 7: I'll hit I'll hit a ball in the woods.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah, So okay, that's funny. What do you get to
- 30:36Speaker 2: do during basketball season? I'm sure it's all basketball all
- 30:40Speaker 2: the time. Do you have time to read books? Like?
- 30:43Speaker 2: What in the world can you do during basketball season?
- 30:45Speaker 7: Man, good question. I do a lot of things with
- 30:47Speaker 7: my family.
- 30:48Speaker 8: I got I got four kids, so I got two
- 30:51Speaker 8: boys to play hoops, soda rock climbs, and we we
- 30:55Speaker 8: have a simulator at the Alice. We built a basketball
- 30:57Speaker 8: bar and it's got two big a ball courts, a
- 30:59Speaker 8: climbing all, and a little golf sem area. So we
- 31:03Speaker 8: turned it loose at night every once in a while
- 31:05Speaker 8: in between some film sessions.
- 31:06Speaker 7: Are you a little family?
- 31:08Speaker 8: Got a little My wife played soccer here at Tech,
- 31:10Speaker 8: so we'll play a little pick a ball.
- 31:11Speaker 2: That's what I was gonna ask. If you're you're a
- 31:13Speaker 2: pickle ball player.
- 31:14Speaker 4: We have a court.
- 31:15Speaker 2: We just built a court here at the house. And
- 31:17Speaker 2: this guy from Ohio I posted a video coach on Twitter.
- 31:20Speaker 2: It was just me hitting the ball. I got metaglasses,
- 31:21Speaker 2: so like I was just literally recording game tape, like right,
- 31:25Speaker 2: I like to watch see how I'm improving. And so
- 31:28Speaker 2: some guy like trolled me on Twitter and was like
- 31:30Speaker 2: you suck and I was like, I'll play you for
- 31:31Speaker 2: a thousand bucks. Never didn't even know who he was,
- 31:33Speaker 2: and he was like, I'm in So now I got
- 31:35Speaker 2: a flight Ohio and play some dude I never met.
- 31:36Speaker 2: He was a four year D one athlete for a
- 31:38Speaker 2: thousand dollars in pickleball. So but I got like a
- 31:41Speaker 2: weird competitive like insecurity, like growing up? How competitive were you?
- 31:45Speaker 2: Where did that come from?
- 31:47Speaker 7: Oh?
- 31:47Speaker 8: I'm a mess as a competitor. You know that you
- 31:51Speaker 8: do these personality tests and I don't even know which
- 31:53Speaker 8: one it was.
- 31:54Speaker 7: But you have to rank like your four.
- 31:57Speaker 8: It comes back after you get done to answering all
- 31:59Speaker 8: these questions.
- 32:00Speaker 2: It gives you, like.
- 32:01Speaker 7: Your four main characteristics.
- 32:03Speaker 8: And my number one was competitive and number two is
- 32:06Speaker 8: like belief and I'm telling you it's awesome and everything.
- 32:09Speaker 2: But marriage, Oh, you're so right. And I've only been
- 32:13Speaker 2: married losing marriage, yes, like three years, so I'm pretty
- 32:16Speaker 2: new to being married. But you are speaking the gospel
- 32:18Speaker 2: like it's like the young Gospel to me right now,
- 32:20Speaker 2: where I'm just learning that that's true, that it's not
- 32:22Speaker 2: always about winning. At times you can lose but still
- 32:26Speaker 2: strategically win, which is probably not the best thing. But
- 32:30Speaker 2: you're talking my language now.
- 32:32Speaker 7: No. The the true is the only way to really
- 32:36Speaker 7: win in marriage is to lose.
- 32:37Speaker 8: That's it, there is like, that is the end. No,
- 32:40Speaker 8: don't even try to even say you can win some
- 32:42Speaker 8: and still win.
- 32:43Speaker 7: No, it's zero.
- 32:44Speaker 2: It's you lose, then you win. I'm curious basketball wise, coach,
- 32:48Speaker 2: because you're a defensive genius. I feel just looking at
- 32:54Speaker 2: as you've risen through the ranks of look at how
- 32:56Speaker 2: good your defensive squads are. Is there the option to
- 33:00Speaker 2: be great at both? Like, because again, you're a defensive guy.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Your team is built and I could be wrong, but
- 33:05Speaker 2: I feel like you are Let's play defense hard and
- 33:08Speaker 2: then the offense will happen. But is it possible to
- 33:11Speaker 2: specialize in both at the same time?
- 33:12Speaker 7: Yeah, definitely. You know.
- 33:14Speaker 8: The truth is as a young coach, when I was
- 33:18Speaker 8: twenty six years old and got the opportunity to be
- 33:22Speaker 8: a junior college head coach, we were in a conference
- 33:27Speaker 8: with Mark Adams, who was the previous head coach at
- 33:29Speaker 8: Texas Tech, who's a dear friend of mine, and in
- 33:33Speaker 8: the rankings of all the past twenty five years of
- 33:37Speaker 8: defenses that Texas Tech team in twenty nineteen here is
- 33:42Speaker 8: statistically the best defensive team ever in the last twenty
- 33:45Speaker 8: five years of college basketball. So, but he was actually
- 33:48Speaker 8: the head coach at Howard College when I was twenty six,
- 33:51Speaker 8: and the head coach at Midland College, so I coached
- 33:53Speaker 8: against it.
- 33:53Speaker 7: One game we had fourteen points at the half.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Playing against his defense.
- 33:58Speaker 8: So honestly, my mind thinks, but I've I learned from
- 34:01Speaker 8: him that you better be great defensively if you want
- 34:04Speaker 8: to win. So we want a junior college national championship.
- 34:07Speaker 8: The first time, we scored over ninety points and averaged
- 34:09Speaker 8: over eighty points.
- 34:10Speaker 7: So honestly, my mind thinks offense.
- 34:12Speaker 8: But I'm such a competitor and I want to win
- 34:14Speaker 8: that I've focused on the defensive part of it because
- 34:17Speaker 8: I think that's something that's more controllable in the environment
- 34:21Speaker 8: of winning a game.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Coach, how how upset do you get when your players
- 34:26Speaker 4: miss free throws? Because I know as a viewer I
- 34:28Speaker 4: hate it.
- 34:28Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I don't get upset at all. Actually I
- 34:30Speaker 7: don't care.
- 34:31Speaker 8: Yeah, right, Let's where that's where fans are different than coaches,
- 34:34Speaker 8: because you don't really care. That's an effort thing that
- 34:37Speaker 8: you want to have a guy miss try to let
- 34:38Speaker 8: him squeeze that basketball really tight, and worried about what
- 34:41Speaker 8: you think too. I mean, it's just I think there's
- 34:44Speaker 8: a I think there's a balance to it. But it
- 34:45Speaker 8: is funny because last year at Texas Tech, we had
- 34:48Speaker 8: the best free throw percentage in the history of the school. Okay,
- 34:52Speaker 8: And I didn't talk to our guys about free throws
- 34:54Speaker 8: one time.
- 34:55Speaker 7: You know what I did.
- 34:56Speaker 8: I recruited really good shooters so they could make it
- 34:59Speaker 8: when it mattered. And honestly, there is a repetition and
- 35:03Speaker 8: I do think there's some skill obviously involved in it.
- 35:06Speaker 8: But when you get to college, man, if you mess
- 35:08Speaker 8: with somebody shots, that's a personal thing for them and
- 35:12Speaker 8: it's a difficult thing to change. And you know, it
- 35:17Speaker 8: is funny because I do think it's more about confidence
- 35:19Speaker 8: and repetition and feeling like you can step up there.
- 35:22Speaker 7: But man, do people get mad at free throws?
- 35:25Speaker 8: I mean, they're free why don't you make them? You know,
- 35:29Speaker 8: I'm like, well, because there's fifteen thousand people in here
- 35:31Speaker 8: yelling and everybody's watching them.
- 35:33Speaker 7: It's not the same. Now.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I was watching Arkansas on Texas last night. I hate
- 35:37Speaker 2: Texas with all my heart, Like I wish Texas would
- 35:40Speaker 2: fall in a whole coach and I'm an Arkansas guy.
- 35:43Speaker 2: But we were missing. We were missing free throws like
- 35:44Speaker 2: we always miss free throws. But I never thought that
- 35:47Speaker 2: you should just recruit good free throw shooters more so
- 35:49Speaker 2: than spend twenty minutes into practice shooting free throws.
- 35:52Speaker 8: Well you know this, Like there are some repetition things
- 35:55Speaker 8: that I do think make it more repeatable, which are
- 35:57Speaker 8: when you get under pressure, make it simpler for a
- 36:00Speaker 8: person to control the variables. I mean, the less movement
- 36:04Speaker 8: the better in regards to efficiency. But I do think
- 36:08Speaker 8: it's way more like mental than it is physical in
- 36:11Speaker 8: a lot of ways. And the repetition of guys that
- 36:14Speaker 8: have always seen them go in all their lives, there
- 36:17Speaker 8: is something to that that gives them a different level
- 36:20Speaker 8: of confidence when they step up to the free throw line.
- 36:22Speaker 8: And now I've coached guys where it's gone the other
- 36:25Speaker 8: way too, where they went from being like seventy to
- 36:27Speaker 8: like really bad. And what they did is they tried
- 36:29Speaker 8: to go in and obsess over some detail to fix
- 36:32Speaker 8: and their free throw shot and lost the connection to
- 36:35Speaker 8: the confidence and flow of like being in the moment
- 36:37Speaker 8: and being confident. It's a wild battle, and when it
- 36:42Speaker 8: goes downhill, I mean, it's like a lot of things
- 36:44Speaker 8: in golf for other things that are repetitive in nature,
- 36:47Speaker 8: and can it can get worse. But that's where I
- 36:51Speaker 8: don't even We put guys in routines and we allow
- 36:54Speaker 8: them the space to make improvements specifically, but man, I
- 36:58Speaker 8: don't mess with that.
- 36:59Speaker 2: How much do you put into like Lonardi putting you
- 37:02Speaker 2: guys in certain places right now? Two seed? I think
- 37:04Speaker 2: I just saw, oh nothing.
- 37:05Speaker 8: I mean, I don't mean that in disrespect to the
- 37:07Speaker 8: people that make those decisions, but you and I both know.
- 37:10Speaker 8: I mean, we've got three conference games and then plus
- 37:12Speaker 8: the conference tournament, and man, so many things change and
- 37:16Speaker 8: the uncontrollables.
- 37:18Speaker 7: I'm out of that game.
- 37:19Speaker 8: When I was a junior college coach at twenty seven,
- 37:22Speaker 8: our second season, we had a path to maybe win
- 37:26Speaker 8: the tournament.
- 37:27Speaker 7: So I went through and like said, like, if we.
- 37:29Speaker 8: Win this game, then we can be a two seed
- 37:31Speaker 8: in the tournament if we win these three games. And
- 37:33Speaker 8: what happens if we win these four And I spent
- 37:34Speaker 8: all this time doing all this math, and then you
- 37:37Speaker 8: get to the end of the season, Like, I realized
- 37:39Speaker 8: every second that I spent trying to figure out where
- 37:41Speaker 8: they had us was two or three seconds that I
- 37:44Speaker 8: could have invested in a relationship with someone that actually
- 37:47Speaker 8: would have made an impact on winning. And so man,
- 37:49Speaker 8: I just flipped this whole thing in my brain of like,
- 37:52Speaker 8: anytime there's a where do someone or what do I
- 37:57Speaker 8: think could happen? I just like, well, let's invent and
- 38:00Speaker 8: what actually does happen, which is people and relationships and
- 38:06Speaker 8: their impact on what we're doing as a team. And
- 38:10Speaker 8: it's changed my perspective and of all of the thought
- 38:15Speaker 8: process in regard to where they put people in the
- 38:17Speaker 8: NCAA tournament and projections.
- 38:20Speaker 2: With this part of the year, where's the balance in
- 38:23Speaker 2: keeping players healthy and fresh and also keeping them in rhythm?
- 38:26Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I and my experience, what we do
- 38:30Speaker 8: right now is we push the throttle down at the
- 38:33Speaker 8: beginning of practice and we'll start with a super competitive
- 38:36Speaker 8: segment of like pressing, because you get to the end
- 38:39Speaker 8: of games and that's what really matters. And we try
- 38:41Speaker 8: to like rev it all the way up and get
- 38:44Speaker 8: a transition drill going and then make it real competitive
- 38:47Speaker 8: at the beginning of practice and then we taper it
- 38:49Speaker 8: off and then at the end is like mentally, how
- 38:52Speaker 8: do you execute? But nothing competitive because what we found
- 38:56Speaker 8: is guys get hurt, you know, kind of more when
- 38:58Speaker 8: they get fatigued at the end of than they do
- 39:00Speaker 8: at the beginning.
- 39:01Speaker 7: So I still think you got a practice.
- 39:04Speaker 8: And if you asked me one thing that I talked
- 39:06Speaker 8: to all my buddies coaching, like Scott Drew and you know,
- 39:09Speaker 8: Tommy Lloyd at Arizona and Ben McCollum at Drake and
- 39:13Speaker 8: Ross Hodge at North Texas and Scott you know, just
- 39:16Speaker 8: we all talk about like how do you make it
- 39:18Speaker 8: competitive but you don't want to get anybody hurt.
- 39:19Speaker 7: But I do think there's a.
- 39:21Speaker 8: Way to rev it all the way up where you
- 39:23Speaker 8: still get that competitiveness and you can still put the
- 39:27Speaker 8: throttle all the way down and get what you need
- 39:29Speaker 8: but not not put anybody in harms away.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Are there any heat check rules where if somebody's on coaching,
- 39:34Speaker 2: there two, three, four in a row where it's like
- 39:37Speaker 2: understood taking another one, Like, are there any heat check
- 39:40Speaker 2: rules at all?
- 39:41Speaker 7: Oh? I mean, if you say rules, there's like heat
- 39:44Speaker 7: check for me.
- 39:46Speaker 8: I just love it when guys feel like Chance McMillan
- 39:49Speaker 8: made one the other day at home where he shot
- 39:52Speaker 8: it and turned around and went the other way, and honestly, like,
- 39:57Speaker 8: would I prefer him to not do that on all shots? Yes,
- 40:01Speaker 8: but when you are playing with a different level of confidence,
- 40:05Speaker 8: that means we're playing at our best. And so, man,
- 40:10Speaker 8: we love shooting threes. We shot thirty the other day
- 40:13Speaker 8: and didn't make many of them. But I do think
- 40:15Speaker 8: that there's a confidence level that your players have to
- 40:17Speaker 8: play with on that side where once you get rolling, let's.
- 40:22Speaker 7: Let it rip.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Coach, what's your relationship with referees? Like, sometimes it's very
- 40:28Speaker 4: you know, will you explain that call to me? And
- 40:30Speaker 4: then sometimes it's like what are you thinking? Do you
- 40:33Speaker 4: know all these guys right? So what's your relationship with them?
- 40:36Speaker 8: Man, I'll tell you what I pray often, but I
- 40:38Speaker 8: pray mostly about my relationships with refs and my wife.
- 40:45Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know how to explain it, but
- 40:47Speaker 8: it's this wild part of the game that you know
- 40:52Speaker 8: that the outcome isn't supposed to matter to them, but
- 40:57Speaker 8: they impact the outcome so significantly by the flow and
- 41:00Speaker 8: feel of it. And I'm confrontational in nature, so I
- 41:04Speaker 8: don't mind the confrontation of communicating with him, but I
- 41:08Speaker 8: don't think it's helpful. I got to be honest, I
- 41:11Speaker 8: end up airing on the side, and you get to
- 41:13Speaker 8: the end that I wish I would have said less.
- 41:16Speaker 7: And so in my.
- 41:19Speaker 8: Areas of improvement, that usually ends up being one of
- 41:22Speaker 8: the more significant ones is how do you communicate in
- 41:25Speaker 8: a way that's respectful but doesn't imply that they're not
- 41:31Speaker 8: doing a great job honestly, And so I found more
- 41:35Speaker 8: of that to be helpful.
- 41:36Speaker 7: But I can't always do that in the moment.
- 41:39Speaker 2: What if, like your counterpart is going to town on
- 41:42Speaker 2: a ref, do you feel like you got to step
- 41:43Speaker 2: it up and meet him with that energy? Though so
- 41:45Speaker 2: he doesn't like rule the refs.
- 41:47Speaker 8: You know, there's two parts that because you know you
- 41:49Speaker 8: can look at those refs and go like, if this
- 41:51Speaker 8: guy says one more thing, it's going to get significantly
- 41:54Speaker 8: worse for him, and you know the difference between that,
- 41:57Speaker 8: and then when you look at the guy and he
- 41:59Speaker 8: seems fras by what's being said by the other coach,
- 42:04Speaker 8: and then you know like, well you better, you better
- 42:06Speaker 8: get a little part of this so that he doesn't
- 42:10Speaker 8: just get in a place where he's making calls that
- 42:15Speaker 8: don't necessarily help. So I do think there's some nuance
- 42:18Speaker 8: maybe to that, but for the most part, the interactions
- 42:22Speaker 8: in regards to that. You know, the difference between somebody
- 42:28Speaker 8: that complains a lot in our league and these referees
- 42:31Speaker 8: talk and they do know going into each game, like
- 42:33Speaker 8: there's something different about someone that shows constant respect and
- 42:38Speaker 8: asks questions and does want to understand that refs make
- 42:42Speaker 8: mistakes too. And I do think that there's a part
- 42:44Speaker 8: of that that there's a sincerity there that most of
- 42:47Speaker 8: the guys that I work with, they're they're they're awesome,
- 42:50Speaker 8: And I do think that there. It's a difficult job
- 42:54Speaker 8: and and most when I look back on film, some
- 42:58Speaker 8: of the calls that I complain about, now we have
- 43:00Speaker 8: them on the bench.
- 43:01Speaker 7: We used to not have this.
- 43:02Speaker 8: Literally, we have access to every call every second when
- 43:05Speaker 8: we watch it. We can we can pull it up
- 43:07Speaker 8: in time out and queue everything, and I can watch it,
- 43:09Speaker 8: and I watch most plays at halftime of the game,
- 43:13Speaker 8: so I have.
- 43:13Speaker 7: A better perspective.
- 43:15Speaker 8: But I used to look back on it and go, man,
- 43:16Speaker 8: I thought for sure that was a foul, and it
- 43:18Speaker 8: wasn't one. So I think given the benefit of the
- 43:20Speaker 8: doubt over the course of the game and trying to
- 43:22Speaker 8: be somebody that's man just in a real way, trying
- 43:26Speaker 8: to understand what the game is really being called like
- 43:29Speaker 8: and trying to do your best to adapt is the
- 43:32Speaker 8: best way to do it.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Is there peaking too early? And where do you guys
- 43:36Speaker 2: feel like you are in the peaking scale?
- 43:38Speaker 8: Yes, there is in regards to I think a fatigue
- 43:43Speaker 8: of your team when you kind of know all your
- 43:48Speaker 8: weaknesses and those have been magnified, and I think that's
- 43:51Speaker 8: when your team takes that dive. And I think as
- 43:54Speaker 8: a coach, our hope is to find this real gratitude
- 43:58Speaker 8: and belief in each other where you can concentrate. I'll
- 44:02Speaker 8: give you an example, like you can watch film with
- 44:04Speaker 8: the team and you can show them all fifteen turnovers
- 44:08Speaker 8: of what happened, and you can magnify those things. And
- 44:11Speaker 8: I think at the end of the season, how you
- 44:13Speaker 8: really peek as you start showing only the plays that
- 44:16Speaker 8: you know that one that can be catastrophic in nature
- 44:20Speaker 8: and that your team is repeating. You show those, but
- 44:23Speaker 8: really you try to show all the things that you
- 44:25Speaker 8: want your team to do and those guys that honestly
- 44:28Speaker 8: get encouraged that way.
- 44:29Speaker 7: It shows them more as highlighted and.
- 44:32Speaker 8: People want to do what you want them to do
- 44:34Speaker 8: more than you telling them what not to do.
- 44:36Speaker 7: And I think the season's long for everybody.
- 44:38Speaker 8: So when you get to the end of the year,
- 44:39Speaker 8: those people have been told like, don't do that, don't
- 44:42Speaker 8: do that, You're.
- 44:42Speaker 7: Messing this up.
- 44:44Speaker 8: You can see, you can see the decline and it
- 44:48Speaker 8: wears on everybody because it is a long season. You're
- 44:50Speaker 8: around each other all the time, and there are all
- 44:52Speaker 8: these pressure moments and all you want to do is
- 44:54Speaker 8: tell them what you don't like about them, because that's
- 44:56Speaker 8: the easiest thing to identify. But to me, the way
- 44:59Speaker 8: you get your team to pee at the end as
- 45:00Speaker 8: you really get them to believe what your best at
- 45:03Speaker 8: as a team, and then they take away, man, this
- 45:06Speaker 8: is what I can do, even if it's a role,
- 45:07Speaker 8: and people don't like saying that word, but if it's
- 45:09Speaker 8: a role that they can be great at, then they
- 45:11Speaker 8: know this is where they're at their best to make
- 45:13Speaker 8: the team the best. And I will tell you that
- 45:15Speaker 8: our team's starting to really believe what we can do
- 45:17Speaker 8: the best Really the key is just how healthy can
- 45:20Speaker 8: you be? And that's probably the greatest determining factor of
- 45:22Speaker 8: whether you go into these tournaments, you know, peaking is
- 45:26Speaker 8: whether you're healthy. So that's one aspect, But I think
- 45:28Speaker 8: the other aspect is like the real belief in each
- 45:31Speaker 8: other and what you do well and everybody basically like
- 45:34Speaker 8: pouring into what those things that make your team great.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Coach, I was watching your game against Houston and I
- 45:40Speaker 4: noticed that Patrick Mahomes and his wife were there. What
- 45:44Speaker 4: is that cool for your team to see Patrick and
- 45:47Speaker 4: his wife like sitting right next to you, guys, and
- 45:49Speaker 4: even coaching a little bit too, him yelling and standing
- 45:52Speaker 4: up and getting into the game.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Oh, it was.
- 45:57Speaker 7: Epic. It was awesome.
- 45:59Speaker 8: And I got a phone call from Dusty Womble, who's
- 46:02Speaker 8: a regent, and I'm telling you, he's like one of
- 46:04Speaker 8: the greatest guys I know, not just people that support
- 46:08Speaker 8: Red Raider basketball and football, but his name's on our
- 46:12Speaker 8: practice facility. He's just one of the greatest husbands and
- 46:15Speaker 8: dads that I know. He's awesome. So he calls me
- 46:17Speaker 8: and he's got the seats, those Hollywood seats, and he's
- 46:20Speaker 8: got the seats across from the bench too, four on
- 46:22Speaker 8: the floor and he's like, where do you think we
- 46:24Speaker 8: should sit my homes And I was like, wherever he
- 46:28Speaker 8: wants to sit.
- 46:28Speaker 7: If you want to sit by the bench, it's great.
- 46:30Speaker 8: So he comes and sits by the bench, and honestly,
- 46:32Speaker 8: I don't interact with him a ton, but he's an
- 46:34Speaker 8: unbelievable supporter of our university, in our athletic department, and
- 46:38Speaker 8: we got.
- 46:39Speaker 7: All these players that he's supporting. It's really unbelievable.
- 46:42Speaker 8: Well, I meet him face to face in the locker
- 46:45Speaker 8: room before we go out, and he was really complimentary.
- 46:47Speaker 8: Then we go sit on the floor and I introduced
- 46:50Speaker 8: myself to Brittany for the first time and I'm like,
- 46:52Speaker 8: you guys, let it rip over here, have a good time.
- 46:55Speaker 8: She said, so, you mean I can say anything to
- 46:57Speaker 8: the refs And Patrick's.
- 46:58Speaker 7: Like, don't tell her that because you may get it.
- 47:01Speaker 8: I was like, as long as you sit in these chairs,
- 47:03Speaker 8: you can, but if you move over and get in
- 47:05Speaker 8: my four chairs, then you probably shouldn't say anything to them.
- 47:08Speaker 8: But no, they were honestly, their energy and their belief
- 47:11Speaker 8: and what we're doing is just a separator for us
- 47:13Speaker 8: and it was a blast.
- 47:14Speaker 7: They were awesome.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I had two final questions for you, coach, tournament expansion,
- 47:19Speaker 2: your thoughts.
- 47:21Speaker 8: Honestly, that's kind of goes in the category of what
- 47:23Speaker 8: we talked about earlier, of like, you know what seed
- 47:25Speaker 8: are we I just don't have any control over it,
- 47:27Speaker 8: and I like the tournament the way it is. I mean,
- 47:30Speaker 8: you know, sixty four to sixty eight. I know there's
- 47:33Speaker 8: a lot of reasons for it to be different. I'm
- 47:35Speaker 8: not smart enough to figure it out. I'm barely smart
- 47:37Speaker 8: enough to call time out at the right time and
- 47:40Speaker 8: not run into Patrick Mahomes and a timeout, you know.
- 47:43Speaker 7: I mean, it's something probably out of my pay grade.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Okay, I'm not going to count that as a question then,
- 47:48Speaker 2: since you didn't have really an answer and you acted
- 47:50Speaker 2: like you're done when you're obviously brilliant. But okay, I
- 47:52Speaker 2: hear you. I hear you, coach. Okay, here, let me
- 47:55Speaker 2: switch it up.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Then.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Is there a movie or like a scene from a
- 47:58Speaker 2: movie that you show your players every year?
- 48:01Speaker 7: Ooh, yes, there is.
- 48:03Speaker 8: There is Shawshank Redemption which part Climbs of the Poop. Yes, yeah, really, yes,
- 48:10Speaker 8: that's the season. That's the season. So it's like you
- 48:14Speaker 8: find a way to break through and you finally get
- 48:16Speaker 8: an opportunity and then you got to go sluedge through
- 48:18Speaker 8: all this and I and I actually reference it during
- 48:21Speaker 8: games quite often because let's just say, you've missed eight
- 48:24Speaker 8: shots in a row, and you know, you feel this
- 48:26Speaker 8: like desperation, like you never know where the end of
- 48:29Speaker 8: the tunnel really is and you don't really know exactly
- 48:31Speaker 8: what you're gonna have to go through till you get
- 48:33Speaker 8: through it. And so it's just this mental imagery of
- 48:36Speaker 8: the freedom that you have that you don't know when
- 48:38Speaker 8: it's going to break through for you, but it's worth
- 48:40Speaker 8: it when you finally get there, and and uh yeah,
- 48:43Speaker 8: it's uh that's the that's.
- 48:45Speaker 2: The one final question for you. It's a family question.
- 48:48Speaker 2: High profile job. Your wife went to school there. I
- 48:52Speaker 2: have other friends that are head coaches, football, basketball, different universities,
- 48:55Speaker 2: and there's a dynamic. When things are going great, you're
- 48:58Speaker 2: the hero. When things eventually don't go great for a
- 49:02Speaker 2: short amount of time or a long amount of time,
- 49:04Speaker 2: you're not the hero, but you're very public and your
- 49:06Speaker 2: family has to take the good and the bad. Is
- 49:09Speaker 2: that a conversation you've had with your family at all, going, Hey,
- 49:12Speaker 2: it's not always going to be awesome, but it's not
- 49:14Speaker 2: real when it's not, Oh.
- 49:16Speaker 7: No question.
- 49:17Speaker 8: I mean this is honestly, man, my faith, my relationship
- 49:23Speaker 8: with the Lord is the only thing that really is important.
- 49:26Speaker 8: And I think in that my relationship with my wife
- 49:29Speaker 8: is What's that? That's everything. I mean, CC's she was
- 49:34Speaker 8: an unbelievable competitor. She's beautiful, she's freaking so cool.
- 49:38Speaker 7: She's a blast.
- 49:39Speaker 8: But when we were losing at North Texas one year
- 49:42Speaker 8: we lost seven of our last eight games, she like
- 49:44Speaker 8: wouldn't talk to me after games. She's so mad at me,
- 49:48Speaker 8: but not mad at me, but just mad at like
- 49:50Speaker 8: why is this happening? And why can't we fix it?
- 49:53Speaker 8: But as a competitor, when you're the wife, you can't
- 49:55Speaker 8: really go.
- 49:55Speaker 7: Coach a game.
- 49:57Speaker 8: And like, and then I've got two sons that play
- 49:59Speaker 8: go four kids, my daughter, they all play point guard,
- 50:02Speaker 8: they all play basketball, They rock climb, they're like super
- 50:05Speaker 8: competitive and they just love this. But I think the
- 50:08Speaker 8: thing that you and I both know is like, if
- 50:10Speaker 8: there's anything I want them to know is that I
- 50:13Speaker 8: love them no matter what, Like there's a real grace
- 50:15Speaker 8: to this, and there's a real humility in knowing that
- 50:19Speaker 8: when everybody is shaming you that or whatever the case
- 50:24Speaker 8: may be making fun of you or there's some difficulty
- 50:27Speaker 8: in that, like that there's a love there that is
- 50:31Speaker 8: consistent no matter what you perform. And honestly, like I
- 50:36Speaker 8: hope my wife and I's marriage in the way that
- 50:38Speaker 8: we interact with each other, teaches them that, like, how
- 50:43Speaker 8: do we love each other in a way that isn't
- 50:46Speaker 8: connected to how good you are at something? And I
- 50:49Speaker 8: do think that that's the foundation of being great. And
- 50:52Speaker 8: so when you say that, I just think it's how
- 50:55Speaker 8: you live your life every day where you love your
- 50:57Speaker 8: kids and you help them in ways that aren't tied
- 51:01Speaker 8: to their performance.
- 51:02Speaker 7: And I think that's the key to all this.
- 51:04Speaker 8: And I think that's the key to our team, and
- 51:06Speaker 8: I think that's the key to life, and that.
- 51:08Speaker 7: How do you love people?
- 51:09Speaker 8: So after we play these awesome games, and we play
- 51:13Speaker 8: really good, I tell our guys to pull out their
- 51:15Speaker 8: phones and scroll and see five hundred text messages. And
- 51:19Speaker 8: then when we lose a game that we're not supposed
- 51:21Speaker 8: to lose, go pull out your text message and there's
- 51:23Speaker 8: two text messages most of the time, and one of
- 51:25Speaker 8: them's from their mom. You know, It's like, these are
- 51:28Speaker 8: the people that, honestly, unfortunately in this deal, are going
- 51:31Speaker 8: to be connected to you no matter what, and those
- 51:34Speaker 8: are the people that you need to call and think
- 51:35Speaker 8: first when we win and do great things. And that's
- 51:38Speaker 8: kind of how we try to mirror this all as
- 51:41Speaker 8: how being a part of a team relates to your family,
- 51:44Speaker 8: which relates to your question in regard to how you
- 51:46Speaker 8: handle all this.
- 51:47Speaker 2: I mean, I'd climb a poopy tunnel for you. Coach,
- 51:51Speaker 2: you got me. I'm ready to climb to a tunnel
- 51:52Speaker 2: of poop whatever you need me to do. Yes, sir,
- 51:55Speaker 2: I'm rooting for you. Guys. I don't say I rarely
- 51:58Speaker 2: say any other team stuff, but you know, Big twelve,
- 52:01Speaker 2: let's go, that's what I say. Wrackham, Yeah, yeah, beat
- 52:05Speaker 2: the crap out of Kansas, win the tournament. Let's get
- 52:07Speaker 2: a good seat. Hope you're near me. I'll come watch,
- 52:09Speaker 2: but not far. I'm not gonna travel far, but if
- 52:11Speaker 2: you're near me regionally, I'll come watch. Coach. Thank you
- 52:14Speaker 2: so much, good luck the rest of the season, and
- 52:16Speaker 2: we really appreciate the time.
- 52:18Speaker 7: This is awesome. I hope you win the thousand dollars
- 52:20Speaker 7: in the picture.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Yeah, me too, Yes, sir, thank you coach. Right, see, y'all,
- 52:25Speaker 2: thank you guys for listening. We're back next week. It
- 52:31Speaker 2: looks like at some point next week, I think we're
- 52:33Speaker 2: gonna get Dama stodom Ireon, who's the head coach at
- 52:36Speaker 2: Georgia Tech. But also like crazy good NBA career, so
- 52:41Speaker 2: that'd be fun. Also more analysis from Eddie Betting college basketball.
- 52:45Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of good stuff.
- 52:46Speaker 2: When he's like, listen to the story, man, and then
- 52:47Speaker 2: they only lost by four and I won.
- 52:50Speaker 4: Man, I'm close to getting one of those twelve game parlays.
- 52:55Speaker 2: What's close?
- 52:55Speaker 4: Eight? No, I've gotten like eleven before. Yeah, I've gotten
- 53:00Speaker 4: really close. But but what's crazy, that's when you look
- 53:03Speaker 4: at it later. It's usually the first game I lose.
- 53:05Speaker 4: The first game, I'm like, oh, that's stupid. But then
- 53:06Speaker 4: you look back and I hit every game after that,
- 53:09Speaker 4: that sucks.
- 53:10Speaker 2: And because you never pay attention to go back and
- 53:12Speaker 2: look once you've already lost, you don't even know.
- 53:14Speaker 4: It's usually like a Sunday night, when I'm not doing anything,
- 53:16Speaker 4: I'm like, let's see how my Weekway and gambling. I
- 53:18Speaker 4: almost hit that it's crazy.
- 53:20Speaker 2: That's funny. Uh So there's another thing too, if you
- 53:23Speaker 2: want to really feel dumb, you can go over to
- 53:25Speaker 2: our episode of Lots to say. It's Matt Castle and
- 53:28Speaker 2: myself and it's on me because I had Matt try
- 53:33Speaker 2: to teach us quarterback terminology and he thought he was
- 53:37Speaker 2: really dumbing it down for us. And I'm telling you,
- 53:40Speaker 2: about halfway through, I looked at Kevin, and Reid doesn't
- 53:43Speaker 2: know much about sports, so it's fine. But I looked
- 53:45Speaker 2: at Kevin. Kevin looked at me and we're like, dude,
- 53:46Speaker 2: you get We got to walk back about three steps
- 53:49Speaker 2: and he's like, oh really, He's like, but z flair,
- 53:52Speaker 2: Oh god, And he thought he was breaking it because
- 53:53Speaker 2: I wanted to know, like teach us from the beginning
- 53:57Speaker 2: so we can have this one thing to know if
- 53:58Speaker 2: we're like talking with friends and we're like, yeah, but
- 54:00Speaker 2: zero slot z flare Yeah, And he was like, ah,
- 54:02Speaker 2: maybe this is why I don't coach, but I don't
- 54:04Speaker 2: know how to yeah, simplify it, yes, And he'd be like,
- 54:07Speaker 2: what you wanna do is we're gonna make sure your
- 54:09Speaker 2: boss gets and the weak side boss was one of
- 54:13Speaker 2: the terms. Yeah, because the boss was basically the full back.
- 54:16Speaker 2: It was the back on the strong safety. Holy crap,
- 54:20Speaker 2: there you go. So if they're running a boss, it's
- 54:22Speaker 2: the back to get to the strong safety. But it's
- 54:24Speaker 2: inside of like seventy two other words. I do feel
- 54:27Speaker 2: good though about what we learned about personnel. When they
- 54:30Speaker 2: say thirteen personnel.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Yeah, because they talk about that a lot on the broadcast.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Too, and so you can listen to that. But thirteen
- 54:36Speaker 2: personnel's one runner back, three tight ends or but he
- 54:39Speaker 2: goes into all that. But there was one point we
- 54:40Speaker 2: gave up and we're like, dude, we can't do this anymore.
- 54:43Speaker 4: Do this with your quarterback friends.
- 54:44Speaker 2: Yes, well it was my fault because I suggested. I
- 54:46Speaker 2: was like, make us Marner. But go listen to that.
- 54:49Speaker 2: Lots to say thank you for listening to twenty five
- 54:51Speaker 2: whistles and we will see you guys next week. Bye, buddy, I.
- 54:54Speaker 4: Want it, thank you, thank you.
