- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian Reef
- 0:04podcast. Today's episode is all about
- 0:08Tick-Tock. That's right.
- 0:10We're going to do an entire episode on Tick Tock because
- 0:13Tick Tock is a big part of my life, a couple of them saying
- 0:17that. But do you know what the app has
- 0:20changed a lot over the last few years.
- 0:22I mean, back when I had originally heard of it but in
- 0:262018, I believe it was like Many other people.
- 0:30I just assumed it was this dancing app for kids or
- 0:33something. And you know in many respects
- 0:35it's still very much is about just dances and stuff and just
- 0:39having fun but then I started to see older content creators on,
- 0:42they're doing different things, doing things like just skits, I
- 0:48suppose writing their own music and stuff and just generally
- 0:53having a place to Showcase their creative Endeavors and that
- 0:58obviously piqued my interest and You know, I started meeting
- 1:01people online online friends who was sort of saying like, Hey
- 1:04listen your sleep, you kind of sleeping on this tic toc thing.
- 1:07You need to get on that wagon. And you know, I had a couple of
- 1:11stints and now it's a regular fixture in what I do.
- 1:16You know, I do these regular livestreams, I post my acting
- 1:19and music on there and what not? And also, you know, I have fun
- 1:23with it as well. I have a lot of fun with
- 1:26Tick-Tock and I think if nothing else, that's what took Atok
- 1:30should be about is having fun and just kind of seeing where
- 1:34you can go with it. So today's episode is going to
- 1:37kind of be a mixture of questions given to us by the
- 1:42wonderful Vilma. Shout out to Vilma big friend
- 1:46and fan and find big friend and follower of the show and
- 1:51everything else that I'm doing and without her, this show
- 1:55wouldn't have happened because I really didn't know how to It's a
- 2:00sort of approach it. I mean I thought about maybe
- 2:03talking about my experiences on Tick-Tock, but I kind of felt
- 2:08like that was a bit boring. I mean there have been a lot of
- 2:10crazy stories and stuff that you know, things that have happened
- 2:13whilst being on the app. But I think I wanted to kind of
- 2:17cover Tick-Tock at large, you know, kind of do like a
- 2:21breakdown of The Good, the Bad. And the Ugly when it comes to
- 2:25tick tock because just like any other social media app, it's got
- 2:28its flaws, but it's got it. It's the opposite.
- 2:31I don't know, triumphs and good things about it and I guess I
- 2:37just kind of want to dissect it a little bit and also share some
- 2:43of your opinions that I received on Reddit because as always, I
- 2:47asked a bunch of people on Reddit various questions and I
- 2:51get a varied responses and many of them were quite interesting.
- 2:56So we will delve into those afterwards but I think Now,
- 3:00we're going to start with vilma's questions.
- 3:01So thank you so much vilmer for sending these in anybody
- 3:06listening, please send in your questions and I will turn them
- 3:11in to Future shows or I will include them within a show or
- 3:16I'll ask them to a guest or whatever.
- 3:18The case may be, the podcast is now sponsored by anchor, which
- 3:23is mad to think about. So it's actually going to make
- 3:26money now, that's weird this show.
- 3:30Is finally going to make some money.
- 3:32Albeit not a lot but to me it's more just the principal.
- 3:36You know just knowing that this show is now sponsored it kind of
- 3:41I don't know I suppose it lends some credibility to it and we've
- 3:44got a lot more guests coming up very soon and I'm going to do
- 3:47more of these topic episodes as I've been promising for a long
- 3:50time, I've been enjoying them. You guys seem to be enjoying
- 3:53them. So I'm going to keep doing them
- 3:56and then obviously going to keep doing life of Christian Reeve on
- 3:58the patreon. Part 2 of the high school
- 4:01memories coming up very, very soon.
- 4:03For those who don't know, I have patreon.
- 4:05You can get exclusive access to that or patreon.com slash
- 4:10Christian Reeve. Now let's stop bugging showy and
- 4:12just get into this. What's the weirdest thing you've
- 4:16seen on Tick? Tock now, when I was going
- 4:20through all these questions, as I always do, I sort of sit down
- 4:24make notes and like, literally just bullet points and then I
- 4:28kind of think about About like okay, these can be stories.
- 4:32I can expand upon this turn this into 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30
- 4:38minutes, I'll show. We'll see.
- 4:41But yeah, no seriously there's been some weird weird stuff.
- 4:47I think probably the weirdest stuff it will get into some of
- 4:51that but I think the fact that the app is supposed to be hyper
- 4:55Vigilant when it comes to protecting minors and stuff
- 4:59that's what they say. And they've done things recently
- 5:01like making it so that you have to be 18 to do a live stream,
- 5:06right? But there's so many miners on
- 5:08this app, it definitely doesn't Safeguard and protect children
- 5:11as it should, which is really, really concerning.
- 5:14And you know there's a lot of people doing.
- 5:17I'm going to put it like mature content and getting away with it
- 5:22or, you know, I've seen assist content on there.
- 5:25I've seen Just crazy stuff on this app.
- 5:29It's very, very worrying. As as my people may know, it's a
- 5:34Chinese app, I believe it's owned by the Chinese government.
- 5:37I could be wrong on that, but it's very strange.
- 5:41I can't think of many other apps that are owned by a government.
- 5:46Forgive me for my ignorance, if you can think of any, let me
- 5:48know, but it just, it just seems odd to have an app with
- 5:52government involvement. It really does.
- 5:54Kind of make you think, like, is there some Buying at work or is
- 5:58their nefarious reasons for this and we'll get into that later.
- 6:02But it does make you think sometimes that you know, maybe
- 6:07there's an ulterior motive to it, maybe it's not all just
- 6:09sunshine and daisies maybe there is something a bit darker about
- 6:14Tick-Tock certainly. There's been creators which who
- 6:19have some of whom have committed actual crimes, people who became
- 6:23like, there was one the other day I saw that was a Creator who
- 6:26did A bunch of, like Skyrim style, NPC videos.
- 6:31It was really really good at. And then, you know, I'm hadn't
- 6:34seen him in years at this point because he sort of rose to
- 6:38prominence during the pandemic. And it turns out the reason for
- 6:42that is that he had committed murder, which is crazy.
- 6:48But you know, anyone can be become a villain I suppose and
- 6:53do bad things in their life. Doesn't matter who they are
- 6:56famous or not, though. Amos, but it's kind of crazy how
- 7:01being on this app can change people and give people like
- 7:04complexes and think that they're better and then everyone and
- 7:09people let it go to their heads. I think, sometimes people get a
- 7:12bit obsessed with the using this, this app.
- 7:17And, you know, they just live on the app and I've seen people
- 7:20that live stream all the time, all day, every day, like they
- 7:24don't do anything else. And it's Kind of worried for
- 7:27their health in many respects because it's like you can't live
- 7:30your life online. It's not healthy.
- 7:33There's a whole world out there. You know, it's handy to have
- 7:37apps and to have social media and to have ways to distract you
- 7:41even. Just for a few seconds, a day,
- 7:42or a minute, or an hour, or whatever the case may be.
- 7:46That's great, but you shouldn't live in your phone, you know,
- 7:49and I'm sorry, I don't want to sit here and sound like, I'm
- 7:52lecturing everyone. But yeah, it's something we all
- 7:54know and I don't think we really appreciate enough.
- 7:56Laughs, you know, you need to take breaks from the stuff when
- 7:59I go out, I go out. I'm not looking at my phone,
- 8:03maybe once in a while, might look at it, but if I'm out I'm
- 8:06out and I'm enjoying it and being in the moment, you know,
- 8:09that's how it should be. No just sitting on your phone
- 8:11all the time, it's bad. And I think there's a lot of
- 8:16people that become obsessed with this app, particularly if
- 8:18they're doing really well on it. And getting a hundred hundreds
- 8:21of thousands of followers, because I imagine that the
- 8:24validation and The support from people kind of goes to their
- 8:28heads and they don't know, I guess believe their own hype or
- 8:34maybe they even believe they're famous and you know, that goes
- 8:36to their head. I don't know, but it's a bit
- 8:39weird and it's kind of crazy. But yeah, let's talk about just
- 8:43some of the random stuff that I've seen that are quite common
- 8:45on live streams egg. Scraping live streams.
- 8:50Exactly how it sounds every once in a while, you will see someone
- 8:56with an egg scraping bits of the egg off.
- 9:01And when I say slowly, I mean like entire Decades of past and
- 9:07they've still not scrape this off.
- 9:10And of course, the whole point of this is to just prolong this
- 9:15process as much as possible. And it's what one thing that's
- 9:18frustrating about this is that bizarre lives like this, live
- 9:21streams like this. Are the ones that get like
- 9:24hundreds of thousands of views, thousands, of views.
- 9:28And I don't get it. I don't understand.
- 9:31I mean, what am I missing? Why is it so fascinating?
- 9:34Is it the weirdness of the fact that someone is doing that?
- 9:38The absurdity of it? Is it just?
- 9:41I don't know, somehow mesmerizing.
- 9:44I mean, my live streams are literally, I sit down.
- 9:46I talked to everyone in the live stream sometimes, I play music.
- 9:49Sometimes I give advice, sometimes we just discuss.
- 9:53Things going on in people's lives or I tell stories but
- 9:55there's always something going on some interactions.
- 9:59Some activity. Not just I mean not to say that
- 10:02egg scraping is not an activity, but as far as activities are
- 10:05concerned. Easy, easy entertaining to watch
- 10:09that. I don't know.
- 10:10Maybe, maybe if you're high I guess it could be kind of funny
- 10:16but ice just weird. It's weird.
- 10:18And then another element to this which happens for all these
- 10:21types of weird broadcasts is that people just send hundreds
- 10:27of gifts, you'll just see a never-ending cycle of
- 10:31notifications of people sending roses and Gifts of it's not why,
- 10:35why are you giving these people your money?
- 10:37You know, give it to people that are doing good like actually
- 10:41creating good content for you or doing charity stuff even better.
- 10:44Give money to people that doing like charity livestreams.
- 10:48Do give it to this idiot, the scraping an egg us, you can do
- 10:53what you want with your money but it just it just sat it's
- 10:56weird. It's frustrating.
- 10:58I'm not gonna lie. Frustrates, me that those
- 11:00livestreams. Get thousands of views for
- 11:04nothing for literally Farkle. And here I am busting my ass
- 11:09trying to get, like, even just five people in my life seen,
- 11:12which, hey, don't get me wrong. I love that I can get like one
- 11:16person in my live stream. I'm a happy camper, and I'm just
- 11:20blessed to be able to do that and entertain someone, right?
- 11:23But a little part of me every once in a while, does get a
- 11:26little bit. Infuriated I couldn't get more
- 11:28people, but it's because people would rather watch that.
- 11:34And I don't know if that means that people just have low
- 11:36attention spans on the app, you know, it's a, It's that kind of
- 11:40an app, isn't it? It's kind of crazy that the live
- 11:42streams, do so well in the first place.
- 11:44But then again, I suppose it's more about the interactivity
- 11:48rather than, you know, the actual long form content.
- 11:53Format, you know? But then again, I've got a whole
- 11:55community that was built on Tick-Tock a livestream community
- 11:59and many of whom regularly come back and they'll stay for an
- 12:03entire hour, two hours, whatever.
- 12:06Some people pop in and out, that's crazy to dedicate a bit
- 12:10of your time. And that, this is why I always
- 12:12say thank you to these people because you sit down and you
- 12:16watch the content and you interact and you get involved.
- 12:18And it's very humbling, very grateful that I get.
- 12:22Get to do that for people and that people enjoy it that much
- 12:25to stick around and it means something it really does.
- 12:29But it is prized because it's like, okay, I guess these people
- 12:34that there are people on this app that you want, sort of
- 12:36longer form content, and interestingly Tick-Tock has
- 12:39trialled it. They have released like longer
- 12:42form videos, but inevitably the ones that are the most
- 12:45successful are the ones that last for, like, 15 seconds, you
- 12:48know, or 20 seconds a minute, whatever like that.
- 12:51That's kind of What the app is in a nutshell.
- 12:56It's just quick. Snippets quick quick, quick,
- 12:59that you keeps going and keeps going keeps going.
- 13:01It's just an updated version of Facebook.
- 13:05Really, when you really look at it, like that Facebook's biggest
- 13:08achievement was having that just never ending Newsfeed there.
- 13:12Just has loads of stuff on it and it never ends and you're
- 13:15constantly engaged in something. I suppose and Tick-Tock is no
- 13:19different. You got the for you page and you
- 13:21just get Thrown random stuff and you know it's funny like how
- 13:27your phone is always listening as well.
- 13:29And the minute you start saying certain things, certain things
- 13:32keep coming up. If I took about like The Addams
- 13:35Family, I'm going to get a bunch of atoms family, related,
- 13:38content. Keep coming up and that's just
- 13:40because of technology and everything is listening in on
- 13:43your conversations now and tracking you and stuff.
- 13:46But it is interesting. I don't know how many times I've
- 13:49said it is interesting. I'm pretty nervous today.
- 13:53I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty tired, just got back at like
- 13:571:00 p.m. or something after a bit of a crazy night gave myself
- 14:04a night off so to speak and I didn't come home last night, so
- 14:10there you go. But I wanted to do that.
- 14:13I needed to do this podcast today and I know that will make
- 14:16it sound. Like I always just trying to get
- 14:18it out the way. Get it done.
- 14:20I love doing this podcast. I love it.
- 14:23Don't know how many times I've said that but I absolutely adore
- 14:26doing this podcast and it's always the same you know, when I
- 14:31feel like I'm not up to it or I'm tired or something like
- 14:33that, my own the prospect is killing me.
- 14:36I don't want to do doing the dude doing it and then I sit
- 14:38down and I start doing it and I loved it.
- 14:41I'm instantly reminded why I love doing this and it's amazing
- 14:44to have got to this point where I actually feel comfortable
- 14:47enough to sit here for maybe an hour hour and a half and just
- 14:50talked at length like this. This and just shoot the shit.
- 14:57You know, I couldn't do this two years ago, just did not have the
- 15:01confidence. Did not have We can set approach
- 15:06like a member looking at the old videos.
- 15:08I had back then when I was just doing my Vlogs and stuff and it
- 15:11was so awkward. I just was not comfortable in
- 15:14front of a camera. They just didn't know what to
- 15:16say. I thought about putting on a
- 15:18Persona and be like, hey guys, welcome to the video and I tried
- 15:21that but it's lame as fuck, you just have to be yourself.
- 15:26But it's easier said than done, isn't it?
- 15:28You know, I mean I like to think that this is myself but it's
- 15:33Pushed a bit to you. It's elevated.
- 15:37It's, there's a slight performance element in it.
- 15:40I am presenting to you, you know, if we were in a normal
- 15:42conversation I wouldn't be like and hi, welcome to the next part
- 15:45of the conversation. You know, it wouldn't be like
- 15:47that unless it was like a sales pitch or something.
- 15:51I don't know. That's just not how people
- 15:54talking real life but it would be weird if I would just sit
- 15:57here and be like. Yeah, so what do you think about
- 15:59this? I think this is interesting.
- 16:00It is it just this, you Kind of have to play it up a bit for the
- 16:04cameras but you don't have to fake it.
- 16:07If you know what I mean you can play up.
- 16:08You can have somewhat of a performance but you can still be
- 16:12authentic and that's why I've tried to do whether or not have
- 16:16succeeded, it's subjective. It's up to you guys you let me
- 16:19know, you let me know. But yeah, I just love doing this
- 16:23show. Thanks for listening guys, but
- 16:27don't worry the show is nowhere near over.
- 16:29I know I normally say that and it's like okay, end of the show,
- 16:32right? It's not The show.
- 16:33I've only just begun, but been waffling on.
- 16:35So, let's get back to the weirdest things I've seen on
- 16:38ticked up the mermaid, dude, in the alleyway.
- 16:41Okay, this is going to be difficult to explain.
- 16:44I will try to give you the visual picture of this.
- 16:49Imagine, like, somewhere in, like Malaysia or Thailand or
- 16:53something like that. You've got like, a tiny drainage
- 16:56ditch between my two houses, and there's a guy.
- 17:00Dressed in like a makeshift mermaid costume that he's made
- 17:04himself. I can't remember if he was
- 17:07shirtless or not. He, I think he had a wig like a
- 17:09Mermaid wig and he had, I think he even had his feet out of the
- 17:15mermaid costume or the air like a fin or like as a pop of
- 17:20mermaid costume. But it wasn't.
- 17:22It was like a makeshift, what it wasn't, a proper one.
- 17:26It wasn't like sequins and designs and patterns on.
- 17:29It was just like You know, like a green bin bag, type deal, but
- 17:34whatever, you know, cool, A+ for creativity and doing, do it DIY,
- 17:39you know, me. But the weird part about this
- 17:42was that the guy was just kind of laying down. so, it's like, I
- 17:50don't know how to put this exactly kind of car like dipping
- 17:54his feet into the water very lightly, you know like not
- 18:01dipping it the full way, just lightly tapping it in the water
- 18:03in the drainage ditch and that was the life.
- 18:07That was the live stream and all of his videos were of him doing
- 18:10that or just talking or something.
- 18:12And again hundreds of thousands of followers, I don't get it.
- 18:18What is this? But people seem to lap it up
- 18:22very strange, people eating like octopuses and other live animals
- 18:27fish on live streams. First of all, disgusting.
- 18:35Why what I'm and Tick-Tock as always, did not ban it.
- 18:40Oh no, they promote it. You know, whenever there's
- 18:43something weird or nefarious or off Tick-Tock just promotes the
- 18:46shit out of that, there will be a lot of shitting on Tick-Tock
- 18:50today, don't get me wrong. I am grateful, but I'm going to
- 18:53point out point. I'm gonna point out there flaws
- 18:56as well just as I would with anything else.
- 18:58Now I'm going to be firm, but fair but I'm also going to say
- 19:01what's like I said, at the beginning, The Good, The Bad and
- 19:03The Ugly, But this is the ugly. It's I don't understand why
- 19:10people are into this shit. Maybe it's absurd.
- 19:12I mean, people like mukbangs, people, like to watch their
- 19:14favorite creators eat. I mean, Lord knows I've done
- 19:17live streams where I just was pressed for time and I needed to
- 19:21do a live stream so did the live stream whilst eating and won't
- 19:24behold my numbers went up and people were interested and I'm
- 19:27not why I'm just sitting and eating, I'm not doing anything,
- 19:30but apparently that's fascinating to people.
- 19:33I don't know. Just as it's kind of the same as
- 19:37like watching people play games, you know, I've done that as
- 19:40well, right? Not throwing stones or anything
- 19:45or criticizing it, but it's just like, kind of odd when you
- 19:48really think about it. Like you want, you would want to
- 19:51play the game, why would you want to watch someone else play
- 19:53the game? But not everyone has the luxury
- 19:54of owning the gate and being able to do it themselves and
- 19:57maybe you could throw the same mindset over to eating food, so
- 20:03I wish I was eating that. Maybe I did it.
- 20:07I seen a lot of good mukbangs where they'll eat, but then
- 20:10they'll talk about something and I'll sort of turn it into like a
- 20:12mini podcast type deal. I think that's at least
- 20:16somewhat, decent content and then I don't know.
- 20:19Maybe something will finally what happened while they're
- 20:21eating, right? Maybe they'll get like Source in
- 20:22their eyes. I'm sure.
- 20:23I don't know. Because just liven things up,
- 20:26you know moving it on sleeping live streams.
- 20:32I don't know if these are much less weird or just bizarre.
- 20:37I've seen two types of sleeping live streams.
- 20:39Either one, it's just someone in the bed sleeping.
- 20:43And it'll be like four hours. And it just be that.
- 20:49My guess is that maybe it's sort of comforting, maybe if you
- 20:55never speak with the Creator ever, you know that you never
- 20:59hear them, you ever hitting them do anything, they just sleep.
- 21:01And that's it just seems kind of boring kind of strange that you
- 21:05would want to watch that. Kind of reminds me of back in
- 21:08the day when you could watch programs like big brother and
- 21:11there would be footage on like 5, 6 a.m. because they used to
- 21:14have, like 24-hour feed, but they did, it wouldn't pay
- 21:1724-hour feed on the television, but they would kind of give you
- 21:21live feed in the morning and stuff.
- 21:23So, like 6 a.m. you could just watch them sleeping and it was
- 21:26really odd and boring and I occasionally that maybe someone
- 21:29got up and, like, made themselves a sand wedge or just
- 21:32walked around, but basically nothing happened.
- 21:36And this is Weirdly know, different people who are
- 21:39obsessed with watching people, sleep.
- 21:42Now, the other form of livestream, which I'll admit, I
- 21:46kind of find it interesting in that kind of morbid curiosity.
- 21:50Way. Is people will set up a deal
- 21:53where they'll lay down in a bed and try to sleep and they've
- 21:59somehow connected their tablet or device to like a soundboard
- 22:04type deal. And for every a gift That you
- 22:07send, it will correspond to like a different alarm or distraction
- 22:12that will maybe wake the person up or cause it cause them to
- 22:16have difficulty sleeping and that can be kind of fun, I guess
- 22:22but most of the time you just see them sleeping and people
- 22:26send gifts and like you might get like a light noise and it
- 22:29doesn't really, you know, bother them or something.
- 22:32I do see a lot of people like Miss the point, and type things
- 22:38into the chat, like they type rows instead of sending a rose
- 22:42because they don't understand that.
- 22:43Like, you have to send the rose in order to get the
- 22:46corresponding sound, they just send, let's just send the like
- 22:50keep separating rose rose rose, it doesn't work well at all.
- 22:53Why does it not work? And it's like I mean that you've
- 22:56literally got a massive LED board explaining send a gift.
- 23:00You get a sound. Yeah, I don't know.
- 23:03I got mixed feelings about that. But obviously, inevitably those
- 23:06livestreams do extremely well. So and now I've spoken about it
- 23:11for a good five, ten minutes that's going to appear on my fyp
- 23:15for the next week. So great.
- 23:18Why does some of the silliest videos that take no effort
- 23:21become viral whereas others which take hard work.
- 23:24Don't, I know that this is slightly aimed at me as well.
- 23:28Not the silly this part, but like the fact that I think one
- 23:31of them is saying here as well. Is like how come your videos?
- 23:35Don't do better. The ones that I put like effort
- 23:38into like acting music like ask it something like that versus
- 23:42just silly videos that take no effort.
- 23:44I think it's a combination of a few things and I've written some
- 23:48of those things down so we'll kind of expand upon them.
- 23:51I think timing is a big one when I had Paul Nicholson on the show
- 23:56who'd spoken with Tick-Tock and the heads at Tick-Tock he'd
- 24:00mentioned that like sometimes it can be to do with like when you
- 24:04release a video sometimes you. We post a video like several
- 24:08times and it will do better later on the same video.
- 24:13Sometimes it could be that time of day, it could just be down to
- 24:17sheer luck, you know? Like one video that I had that
- 24:21went viral went viral in like, Saudi Arabia and like Algeria
- 24:25and the Middle East and it's super random.
- 24:27We got like nearly 3 million views and it all it was was a
- 24:31stitch, which is basically when you take one video and then you
- 24:35add something to it either like a Reaction or like you just at
- 24:41you expand upon the original video and add content to it.
- 24:44That's what stitches. And that's what my video was.
- 24:47It was just someone saying something silly and funny and
- 24:50then I was like, what? In that silly voice.
- 24:53And that was the video that did immeasurably well and got real
- 24:58at 28,000 followers and nearly 3 million views.
- 25:03It was wild. It was, it was, it was a fun
- 25:06couple of I think of just seeing the numbers keep rising and
- 25:11everything and I naively thought the time and I've covered this
- 25:14on the show before but I naively thought like this is it this is
- 25:16the beginning of my my online content creator career.
- 25:20Now I'm going to become super rich and successful and famous
- 25:23and this is the beginning and it's like, it didn't, it didn't
- 25:26happen, but it was interesting. And I learned a lot from it.
- 25:32And I think the biggest thing that I learned was, yeah, it
- 25:35mostly just comes down to Sheer luck.
- 25:40I think morbid curiosity could be a reason why some of the
- 25:43Cilia videos do so well. The sillier the better.
- 25:47I mean there are a lot of kids using this app.
- 25:49So it kind of makes sense that the Cilia goofy.
- 25:53Oh, kind of videos are going to do better than like, more
- 25:55serious ones. But the say that serious ones,
- 25:58don't do well, but you've got to change in demographic on the
- 26:02app, but I will say, in the last couple of years, there's been
- 26:05more content aimed at Older generations.
- 26:09And I feel like now it's kind of Shifting the balance on Tick,
- 26:11Tock. So now there's this, like all
- 26:13these different parts of tick-tock aimed at different
- 26:16things like different TV show fandoms series fandoms, fandoms
- 26:23of actors music like culture, whatever.
- 26:26Like there's all these different kind of like pockets of the
- 26:29internet, you know? It's the same principle but just
- 26:32operating within Tick-Tock and because of that, you've got all
- 26:35these spaces for people to be. And so you can be on that app
- 26:39all the time and have no idea who certain people are yet.
- 26:43They could be some of the biggest creators on that, but it
- 26:46may be that you've just never seen them.
- 26:48Their content has not been pushed to you because it's just
- 26:51not relevant to you in some way or again luck.
- 26:54Just never seen them. It's interesting to me the
- 26:57content that gets pushed my way. It's not often like, those
- 27:00boots, it creators, it's just either people that live in the
- 27:04local area to me, or people around.
- 27:07The country or around the world even posting somewhat similar
- 27:11content. Like I see a lot of music
- 27:12related ones and that makes sense being a musician and I
- 27:16post a lot of music related content on the app, but other
- 27:21than that, it's kind of a random free-for-all and anything can
- 27:24appear on that fyp. And obviously, if you show
- 27:27interest and engage with it, then you're going to see a lot
- 27:29more of that stuff and sometimes you just stumble across weird
- 27:32stuff. Also final reason for the
- 27:35silliest videos, taking no heh. Effort and yet becoming viral.
- 27:39I think, the more Mass Appeal ability of video has the more
- 27:45likely it is to do well, which, I know that sounds like the most
- 27:47obvious statement of all time. Like oh yeah, of course.
- 27:50If you can, anyone can relate to a course.
- 27:52It's going to be better based. Like, if, if you take something
- 27:56like mr. Bean the character and you look
- 27:59at why that became so successful.
- 28:01It became successful, because Rowan Atkinson essentially
- 28:04created a character that didn't really And need to speak.
- 28:08It does kind of mumbled words here and there sometimes even
- 28:11has conversations, but mostly he didn't speak.
- 28:13He just kind of did like slapstick comedy and just moved
- 28:16his body around and facial expressions in a funny way, and
- 28:20that meant that he had a greater Mass Appeal, ability to
- 28:25Universal audience. So, like countries around the
- 28:28world because you don't have to know what he's saying.
- 28:31All you have to understand is like, you know, the situation of
- 28:35what he finds himself in. nor like the silliness the silly
- 28:39predicaments, he finds himself in and how he overcomes them and
- 28:42stuff, you know it's if you apply that then to tick tock I
- 28:46think Whatever appeals to the masses is going to go viral.
- 28:54You know, that's kind of just the end of it so I think yeah a
- 29:00lot of it comes down to luck really.
- 29:04Yeah, I don't know. Basically can smaller creators
- 29:08make an actual income from Tick-Tock.
- 29:10Or is it just fancy emojis and useless features?
- 29:15Yes. Now I can't speak. on this in a
- 29:21particularly, you know, There is a specific way, like I don't
- 29:28know the extent of what we're able to do, but I can tell you
- 29:33that, I haven't money, but the ways I've earned money have been
- 29:37either mostly through people gifting in live streams which
- 29:43thank you to everyone that's ever done.
- 29:45That's very kind of you. Sometimes you can get gifted a
- 29:49gift on a video or something like videos. intended for The
- 29:56Creator that sent on a video so something like that.
- 30:00It only happened to me once or twice on my main account, but it
- 30:03is a thing. And then, of course, if you get
- 30:06into the Creator fund, which I believe you have to have like
- 30:0810,000 followers to get into, then in theory, you're supposed
- 30:13to earn money on all of your videos because they'll start
- 30:15showing ads like before your videos arrived on people's
- 30:19timelines and stuff. I only ever like maybe 5 P from
- 30:24it. 10p something like But I suppose the best way to earn
- 30:32money on this app really, is pushing people to check out your
- 30:36other content, you know. So it's not strictly speaking
- 30:39earning money from Tick-Tock, but you're pushing into things
- 30:42like your patreon, or your PayPal or something like that.
- 30:45Like with with a particular reason in my life and I think
- 30:49it's always better if you can deliver something, if you can
- 30:52say, okay, here's what you get back for subscribing, to me,
- 30:56following me, whatever. But talking just on what you get
- 30:59from subscribing to take, talk to a Creator.
- 31:04I think you. One thing I've seen is you can
- 31:07do like subscriber, only live streams where only subscribers
- 31:12can comment and interact with the Creator.
- 31:16It seems like a good idea. If you've got like 10,000
- 31:18followers and 50 of them follow like subscribe to you, then you
- 31:23know, they get to have like their own livestreamer big ones.
- 31:26Well well, you can just do it like that every time be like, oh
- 31:29no, you have to subscribe to me and then you can be part of it.
- 31:32But for like that would really alienate people.
- 31:35It's one of the reasons why I've kept doing the podcast.
- 31:37And I've released this life of Christian roof series only on
- 31:42patreon. I've kept it exclusive there
- 31:44because it's like, okay, one you have to pay for one is free like
- 31:47the this podcast will always be free.
- 31:49It will never be paid for it. Will have eventually more
- 31:53sponsors and maybe more ads and stuff and Who knows like if it
- 31:57ever took off to cough, maybe we would have like ad free versions
- 32:00that you might pay for something.
- 32:02But as it is, this podcast will always remain free because it
- 32:08started as a free product. I always intended for it to be a
- 32:11free product, it always will be and I think it's important to
- 32:14have that from a marketing perspective to be able to
- 32:18advertise yourself with free content, you know, because not
- 32:20everyone can afford to pay for Content.
- 32:23Not everyone wants to certainly, I didn't think my content was
- 32:27very good years ago, I think. Now I'm creating content that
- 32:30might be worth paying for very subjective but bias of me to say
- 32:35that. But I mean, I don't know, I put
- 32:37a lot of hard work into like the life of Christian researchers
- 32:40and everything else that I do. But I never expect people to
- 32:45gift and give things and it's always a massive surprise when
- 32:48people do. And I'm always see extremely
- 32:51grateful when people do but I don't expect it.
- 32:54And I don't think anyone on Tick Tock should either you should
- 32:57just say your thank-yous, be grateful and been never make
- 33:01demands of the people that are sending you their hard-earned
- 33:04money. Like because they're doing so
- 33:06because they Love you. And they want to say thank you
- 33:08and give you gratitude for entertaining them, you know.
- 33:12So I don't think she'd ever make demands of them or expect it and
- 33:15it's happened on other apps like twitch and whatnot.
- 33:17But just still, we need to draw a line under stuff like that and
- 33:21maybe will realize that it's not cool to do that, man.
- 33:24Anyway, let's move it forward. What is the best thing about
- 33:28Tick-Tock? Now, I asked Reddit, this
- 33:30question. So we'll swing to that in a
- 33:34second but I want To say, I think the best thing about Tick
- 33:40Tock is the reach. I think you can reach.
- 33:45A lot of people very, very quickly.
- 33:48And that to me is one of the best reasons why, you know, you
- 33:53would Seek to use this app, you know, obviously there's going to
- 33:58be other reasons, but I feel like, you know, when I was on
- 34:01Twitch, I never really gained like a new followers out of the
- 34:04blue, like would happen every once in a while, but mostly it
- 34:06was just the hard core audience that ironically.
- 34:08I built on Tick-Tock first who moved around with me from app to
- 34:11app, while I was going through this transitional period, of
- 34:14originally being blocked on my main account, which is a whole
- 34:16story in of itself. I think I've talked about on the
- 34:18show before. So go check out the other
- 34:20episodes and day. You can find out there.
- 34:22I don't know which episode though.
- 34:24I'll find out. But yeah, I was banned from live
- 34:28streaming on my main account and then I didn't really know what
- 34:30to do. After that was like, hardcore
- 34:32followers of mine did and I'm immensely grateful and some of
- 34:34those people still follow me to this day.
- 34:35It's incredible to thank you. But not, everyone did and I
- 34:39think it's because some people most people maybe like to stick
- 34:43to just one app as opposed to having many.
- 34:46I mean I have all the apps because I'm trying to promote
- 34:50myself everywhere and maximize visibility for myself but I can
- 34:54understand why people don't want to.
- 34:56I know people that don't have Instagram then of YouTube and
- 34:58Facebook. I mean I don't really use
- 34:59Facebook but point is it's you know as a Creator you kind of
- 35:04got to have a presence everywhere.
- 35:05But if you're just a consumer of content I guess you're going to
- 35:09choose apps that you dig. And you know if you don't dig
- 35:13the other ones you're not going to have them on your phone.
- 35:14Are you not going to use them? So yeah I would say reach is the
- 35:17best thing especially since I've been able to reach people from
- 35:20around the world. Like I've reached people in
- 35:22America Canada. I like Thailand Philippines all
- 35:27over Europe Australia, it's amazing continues to just blow
- 35:31my mind and some of these people keep returning keep checking out
- 35:34my content and I'm like, thank you so much like amazing to have
- 35:37you here, you know, it's crazy even though to think that it's
- 35:41happening in real time as well. But let's look at some of the
- 35:43responses that read it said. What's good about Tick-Tock?
- 35:47It feels time. Yeah.
- 35:48There you go. Pretty simple because, you know,
- 35:51you need to just stare at a few minutes.
- 35:54Kill some time. You'll definitely be
- 35:56entertainment. It so, one person says, I like
- 35:59my Tick, Tock feed. I follow a lot of Disability,
- 36:01Advocates, cool. Whom are often disappear,
- 36:04disabled, physical and/or, mental influencers.
- 36:07Tick-Tock helped me of cultural awareness and I like that I can
- 36:10learn random trivia. See, this is brilliant.
- 36:11Yeah, because you've got different Generations on their
- 36:15gosh. The amount of Music I've
- 36:17discovered through Tick-Tock has been has been mind-blowing
- 36:19because all these really cool songs that are usually new
- 36:22songs, but sometimes they're older.
- 36:24So Songs, like for many, many years ago like 80s or wherever
- 36:28they, you know, they just become viral on the app.
- 36:30They keep getting used especially in tandem with like a
- 36:32particular Trend and then they just become like, good voice is
- 36:36good music. The amount of times I've Shazam
- 36:38things that I've heard on Spotify and I've had it to my
- 36:41to, my playlist is crazy, so I totally get that like learning
- 36:45from the app and stuff and yeah, it's like I was saying earlier,
- 36:48there's different pockets on the app, you know, different places,
- 36:52you can reach in other book, talk for That people just doing
- 36:55live streams where they just read, you know, do like little
- 36:59nighttime bed story types, there was an that's awesome.
- 37:02You know, that people offer that sort of content.
- 37:05So, yeah. Algorithm for the feed is
- 37:08amazing from x y, z From the Block.
- 37:12Yeah, I think you know, whether you like it or hate it.
- 37:16At the end of the day, it's significantly better than other
- 37:21apps for directing content your way that The app will know that
- 37:25you like, like, no matter things.
- 37:26It's suggested to me that I definitely never spoke about,
- 37:31but it just, I guess it kind of my phone or the app recognized.
- 37:34Oh, he likes this. This, this this.
- 37:36So he's my it likely to like this thing as well.
- 37:40And it was true. So there you go.
- 37:43Best is the amount of creativity in content.
- 37:47Absolutely. I like how creative people get
- 37:51with Trends especially when there's like a trend that Really
- 37:54popular in someone will slightly change.
- 37:58Something about it and like self a whole new trend like a sub
- 38:02trend of a trend, if that's a thing.
- 38:05Yeah, lots of really interesting creativity.
- 38:07It's always interesting to see what the next big trend is going
- 38:10to be, and it's just fun. Lot of fun.
- 38:15Lot of just negative comments here.
- 38:17What we'll get to that in a second.
- 38:20He's Tick-Tock just for fun, or is there a more serious side to
- 38:23it? I guess that depends on your
- 38:25motivations, really? I mean, I've always been pretty
- 38:27transparent in that I'm using this app to promote myself, just
- 38:31have the links on my profile and hope the content spoke for
- 38:34itself in kind of hoped that people might check out my other
- 38:37stuff that I was doing, like, my acting stuff.
- 38:38People don't necessarily do that, but sometimes people do.
- 38:42But generally speaking, they don't, if you push them to do,
- 38:44if you suggest it people will like, I don't know how long I've
- 38:47been doing it now. Maybe a few months, but I
- 38:50decided to just start plugging everything that I do in my live
- 38:53streams. Normally at the beginning of the
- 38:56live stream at the end and it's sometimes if there's a bunch of
- 38:58new people to particular stream, I'll mention it will give him
- 39:01the rundown of who I am, and what I do when you where you can
- 39:03find me. And when I tell you that it's
- 39:05increased, my Instagram account considerably, it's got only
- 39:07patreon subscribers. I mean, it's improved, the
- 39:10listens, and the views for the podcast, it definitely works.
- 39:14You know, promoting yourself and pushing yourself on the apps,
- 39:16like, Tick Tock works. But you've got a have structure.
- 39:20I think if you want to be a content creator, that seeks to
- 39:23monetize. They do and be able to community
- 39:25and then promote your content to that community and kind of maybe
- 39:30get those people to check out everything that you're doing.
- 39:34It's a lot of work and you have to plug you have to be top
- 39:38salesman and just constantly be selling stuff.
- 39:39But you don't have to spend every waking moment doing that,
- 39:42you know, like when I do my live streams, I try to keep the plugs
- 39:45to a minimum. If a, can I just say them?
- 39:47When they make sense? To say them, as I said before,
- 39:50normally, when there's a lot of new people in normally will set
- 39:52at the beginning of the live strip not but Lot of time at all
- 39:55only set of the end, you know, just as a kind of reminder to
- 39:57everybody, it's become a cash. Be like I Know It Off by heart,
- 40:02but yeah. No, I think it's important to do
- 40:04that. I think that's important.
- 40:07What are the worst things? Let's have a little look-see.
- 40:10Are you going to load for me? I've got this set up in front of
- 40:13me and worried that it'll just start lagging out and bring it.
- 40:17It's Data Tracking earlier. This is what I was referring to.
- 40:21That means a Toronto but supposedly data on your phone as
- 40:23well. So it's it's clearly a privacy
- 40:25issue. Also its vilmer.
- 40:29Sent me a question here. Tick Tock is under review by the
- 40:31EU for EU citizens data being breached by the Chinese
- 40:35government. What do I think about that?
- 40:37And what if Tik Tok Tik Tok gets banned in the EU?
- 40:40So what I think about it is that I mean Europe and China
- 40:45different regions of the world and I guess Tick-Tock will have
- 40:50to acquiesce and change things up.
- 40:53If they don't they just won't They allowed to operate.
- 40:55So they'll have to change out things and they might have to
- 40:57give up certain things and it because data protection is very
- 41:01serious here. I think forgive my ignorance.
- 41:03I might be wrong here, but we've got like the data protection,
- 41:05Adam, got that gdpr thing, which may only be for financial for
- 41:09the financial industry. But basically we've got like a
- 41:11lot of legislation regulations to protect for things like data
- 41:14and stuff and the misuse of it will not and essentially
- 41:18Tick-Tock is always tracking and storing data about you, and
- 41:21there's a lot of conspiracy theories about this idea that
- 41:23like maybe Be there. I don't know.
- 41:25It's all like facial recognition and they're trying to kind of
- 41:27like just build profiles of people and store it in a
- 41:30database somewhere. I don't know if I believe all
- 41:32that shit. Maybe it's true, maybe not, who
- 41:35knows. But I hear people talk about
- 41:38privacy problems with regards to tick tock all the time and again
- 41:41it's not the only app that does this making up for this and it's
- 41:43no different with you. Got like you sign up for this
- 41:45you look in their terms and conditions.
- 41:46There's going to be some crazy wild stuff in there that you're
- 41:48not going to want to agree to, but if you don't, you can't use
- 41:51the app and that's how they get you.
- 41:54I don't know, but if it gets banned in your you, I kind of
- 41:57threw a through, a few ideas here.
- 42:00I mean, I don't see this happening, but if it did, I
- 42:03would see maybe Instagram or YouTube.
- 42:05Taking over in this space. I mean, I feel like Instagram
- 42:09reels and YouTube shorts have been a bit of a failure.
- 42:12I mean, they've kind of jumped on the bandwagon and taking
- 42:15small segments in the market. But Tick Tock is supreme when it
- 42:18comes to short content. Is the place for it.
- 42:22I personally don't like Instagram reels and YouTube
- 42:26shorts because of like it so much easier to post videos on,
- 42:32ticked up, the knees, Instagram, wheels, and and YouTube shops.
- 42:36I feel like they're not really optimized for this stuff and
- 42:39also, YouTube is a video sharing website, always has been, but I
- 42:41feel like it's better for the long form content.
- 42:43When you got the short stuff, it just feels like a shitty version
- 42:47of tick-tock, you know? I don't know.
- 42:49I just, I mean, it's pretty easy to upload videos.
- 42:51Rose takes like 5 seconds and stuff bassist.
- 42:54I do just doesn't inspire me do it.
- 42:55I don't wanna get like, ooh, YouTube shorts.
- 42:57I just do it because it's like another place to advertise if
- 43:01that's the wrong attitude to have, I don't know, but if I
- 43:03just can't see those apps taking over unless it makes a bigger
- 43:07changes and make a commitment to just changing everything and
- 43:10doing something new. Yeah.
- 43:12And speaking of new and maybe a new app will come on the scene
- 43:15and take over. I highly doubt it because I mean
- 43:18Tick-Tock has been building for years.
- 43:19I think it used to be music. Lee.
- 43:21I think that's what it used to be and they change them into
- 43:23Tick-Tock. And I mean it's had like what
- 43:27like five years of Supremacy, you know, as far as that being
- 43:29the number one social media app by numbers and just everything
- 43:33else. And seems like even just people
- 43:37who just want to muck around. Have a laugh, downloading this
- 43:39app and alarming rate. And I think Todd knows that
- 43:43they're not in any danger of losing their market share at
- 43:46all. I just, I just can't see that
- 43:47happening. Why do I think Tick-Tock has
- 43:52such a big appeal, and Instagram cannot replicate this, despite
- 43:55having added real Stone livestream.
- 43:57So, obviously, I've touched on this, but I'll try to kind of
- 44:00give a small succinct. It comes down to like things
- 44:03like apis, and just how everything looks and feels when
- 44:08you're using it. I feel like Tick-Tock feels a
- 44:12lot more smooth and yes weird because like Instagram was the
- 44:17image app and it still is but it's like anyone Instagram.
- 44:21Posted posted a video, the quality always just fucks up.
- 44:24Even if you got a good camera, it always looks a little bit
- 44:27lesser in quality. Like I've got a really good
- 44:30camera, my phone, right? But when I post my videos onto
- 44:33Instagram, I don't know why, but it looks like they've gone
- 44:36through like a shitty filter and now they just have dropped in
- 44:39quality and I don't know why that is if it's just a shitty
- 44:43here structure but not structures.
- 44:46She ear like engine system that they've got for Instagram but
- 44:50you know, they've been around for so long.
- 44:51Long, they were acquired by Facebook and Facebook is running
- 44:53so many things now, but I think that they're just not like
- 44:56prioritizing it in a way that they should, and maybe they're
- 44:58missing out. But I just I couldn't ever see
- 45:01them being able to replicate what the success that takes all
- 45:04kinds had. I mean, I think they've
- 45:06certainly made a good go of it, but to me it was just feels like
- 45:08they just copy everything that take table does and not very
- 45:11well. But yeah, that's why I would say
- 45:14it's such a, it has such a big appeal because it's everything
- 45:17originates there. And people often will mention
- 45:19the fact that, you know, content is Often.
- 45:22And I did this, I'm guilty of this as well, but repurposing of
- 45:24content just you know, you made on Tick-Tock and you post it
- 45:27everywhere else. And obviously there's like apps
- 45:29where you can like remove water marks from the videos and it
- 45:32looks like you know just a regular video.
- 45:34Now even that cup, let's move it forward.
- 45:40I think. Yeah, some of the answers I had
- 45:42actually just for that quick. Final question.
- 45:43I didn't realize these were answers, I don't understand my
- 45:46own notes. Ease of use, it's easy to create
- 45:49videos. The ux UI Sign might simply just
- 45:52be more appealing, sometimes things are just more appealing
- 45:55when they look better. You know, sometimes I will say I
- 45:59don't like the look of YouTube shorts.
- 46:02I really don't just not appealing in the slightest and
- 46:06people might not want to use Instagram because of its
- 46:08connection to matter. For instance, people left in
- 46:11droves from Facebook because of fears of their data privacy and
- 46:15you constantly hear about people leaving Facebook or not having
- 46:18used it in years and stuff and I feel like if Tick-Tock continues
- 46:23in the manner that it isn't, it gets in trouble for data
- 46:25privacy, concerns. You may see the same thing
- 46:27happen with Tick-Tock, but it'd be a lot harder because Facebook
- 46:30is kind of deteriorated in more recent years, as far as, like,
- 46:33popularity is concerned. But Tick-Tock just keeps growing
- 46:36and growing and growing changing, and becoming like the
- 46:38app and I don't think as It's not going anywhere.
- 46:41I couldn't see any new competitor coming on the scene
- 46:44and changing art. I mean, I think at this point it
- 46:47would be impressive if they could pull that off.
- 46:49But let's look at some other the some of the other responses to
- 46:54the bad things about Tick-Tock giving yourself ADHD.
- 46:59Well I don't think you could give yourself ADHD by watching
- 47:04it but I did yes it's against medical conditions has no idea
- 47:09how that works but But I guess I think what this person is
- 47:12driving at is that like you know that it does affect your
- 47:16attention span. But it's true because it's that
- 47:19instant gratification thing you're just constantly looking
- 47:22for that. Five seconds of pleasure.
- 47:24You like? Oh yeah.
- 47:25Yeah good video. That was a fun video but if you
- 47:28don't find it, you going to keep scrolling and scrolling
- 47:30scrolling scrolling until you get out of that that fix.
- 47:32It's almost like a drug. That's why I think social media
- 47:35obsession is dangerous because it is like a drug, it's
- 47:38intoxicating. And I think people Lose
- 47:40themselves in it, and get too obsessed with it and forget
- 47:44that, it's just an app and that sometimes it's just good to put
- 47:47the phone down and, you know, that let you see this all the
- 47:50time, people watching movies and just sitting on their phone and
- 47:53again, not throwing stones by any shade of the imagination.
- 47:58That's not how you say that. You know what I mean by any
- 48:00stretch of the imagination, I do it too.
- 48:02Sometimes it's bad. I know I should just be there in
- 48:04the moment enjoying the content but it's just a bad habit,
- 48:08phones there, you know this check things.
- 48:10It's sometimes it's nice and comforting to have the long form
- 48:12content on in the background. I don't know.
- 48:16I don't know, who am I? But yeah, there you go.
- 48:19That's it in a nutshell, really? Yeah, and so a lot of these
- 48:23responses from people with same, it's the same thing.
- 48:27I'm stumbling my words. A lot of privacy problems in
- 48:29killing too much time because it's addicting be self-aware and
- 48:32use your limited time in life. Do you do good things for
- 48:34yourself? I agree.
- 48:35Absolutely. One person just said in response
- 48:38to what's bad about Tick. Tick, Tock everything.
- 48:40It screws with young or emotionally vulnerable people in
- 48:42negative ways such as self higher self harm disguised as a
- 48:45challenge. So this is kind of what I was
- 48:47talking about earlier about the more dangerous stuff on on the
- 48:50app and how it can affect - because you know there are a lot
- 48:53of teenagers using this app children even and they're on
- 48:58this app. They need to be protected but
- 49:00they're being exposed to all this stuff and it's difficult to
- 49:03think as a parent to stop your kids from doing that.
- 49:06I mean you can't be around them 24/7 and my say everything that
- 49:09they do and you Can't even if you did that mean, they could
- 49:12still be shown it by other people.
- 49:13So, it's never really liked 100% something, you can escape, you
- 49:18know. Yeah, Tick Tock users being
- 49:22racist. Sometimes, I've not really since
- 49:25I've seen content that is racist, but I've not seen like
- 49:28specifically Tick-Tock users being like that, but that should
- 49:32be addressed. I think, in some way by
- 49:34Tick-Tock, I don't know if they have done, but yeah, and also
- 49:37yes, Shadow Banning see. I, uh, Stem, excuse me, Paul
- 49:43Nicholson, who is a social content creator?
- 49:47It's been on my show before about this and because he'd had
- 49:50a meeting with Tick-Tock officials and it was, he
- 49:53basically, just felt said they said, they'd never heard of
- 49:55Shadow Banning before, and maybe they were lying, who knows?
- 49:58But he basically it said to the mic, is it real?
- 50:00And they're like, no. So I don't know, maybe it's not
- 50:03but it it does seem like it's a thing because sometimes you can
- 50:06go from getting like a say, like right now, I'm averaging like
- 50:0934. 100 views per video. It doesn't happen straight away
- 50:14a lot of the time, but that's generally what, I get either a
- 50:17cumulatively over time over, maybe a week or suddenly,
- 50:21sometimes, it can happen that way.
- 50:23But then there's other people like, you know, that they'll be
- 50:25like 500 or whatever. And then suddenly, that all the
- 50:28videos go down to just, like, 20 views, and they just can't get
- 50:31out of that. And I don't know.
- 50:33I think, I don't know necessarily that Tick Tock is
- 50:36like, actually shadow Banning you or if that's even a thing.
- 50:40Do you think that they purposefully push you sometimes
- 50:43but don't push you on this phone case?
- 50:45But I do think it's automatic as well isn't necessarily like
- 50:48governed by one person or because they're, how could you
- 50:51keep up with that many users? It must all be computable to
- 50:54mate. And that random, who knows, who
- 50:57knows such things. And I think we're at the end of
- 51:01the show, guys. Can you believe it?
- 51:03Where the end of the show? Yes, by Vilma.
- 51:06Thank you so much, Vilma, massive, massive.
- 51:08Shout out to vilmer for a For sending at least questions and
- 51:11helping me to put show together. What is the future of tick tock?
- 51:13So I asked Tik Tik Tok, Tik Tok, what's the futuristic tied it
- 51:19and yeah I got a mixed bag of responses are platforms before
- 51:23it what was that sound? What was that sound?
- 51:26There was a weird sound. What was that?
- 51:29There's like a beep, beep, bop, bop bop.
- 51:32Was that I'm freaked out now. That's, that's way.
- 51:37The meow. I was not expecting that.
- 51:40Oh, there's someone watching someone doing so maybe someone's
- 51:43hacking into the computer that would be terrifying with it.
- 51:45We talk about data, privacy issues, a tick tock, and then
- 51:48someone started like hack into my computer.
- 51:50What I'm doing? Zoom meeting for well, that's
- 51:53what I use for the podcast. By the way, I use zoom.
- 51:56It's possible for people to actually Pinch your livestreams
- 52:00and hack into them. I've seen it have seen my videos
- 52:02where people do it online is kind of crazy.
- 52:05Yeah, some people think the app will eventually fizzle out?
- 52:09I don't know if I necessarily believe that.
- 52:13I think I think every app has its day.
- 52:15I'm surprised, Facebook has lasted this long.
- 52:17I'm surprised, Facebook was the app that became the biggest app
- 52:21social media social media wise because, because one person said
- 52:24my space. Yeah.
- 52:26Like, what's the future Tick-Tock?
- 52:27It will be like Myspace. And Myspace was A lot of fun.
- 52:30It really was is arguably the best social media platform ever
- 52:33created because there was just maximum usability as far as
- 52:38being able to personalize it and it inspired loads of people to
- 52:41get into coding and HTML editing and stuff like that.
- 52:44And they're all these things that are introduced that are now
- 52:47used by other apps as this, like a normal features.
- 52:49But my space really spearheaded a lot of down.
- 52:52There are apps. Before that libido was a big
- 52:54one, but I feel like my space was really the kind of the
- 52:57cutting-edge app that any was a Racial thing is 2005 up until
- 53:01about two thousand nine. I mean it did exist somewhat
- 53:05after that, it still exists this to this day, but, you know, it's
- 53:08not the same and never will be. So, I think that's a very fair
- 53:11response that it will become ticked.
- 53:14It will become, like my space, I but, you never know.
- 53:17I mean, as with anything, in life, if you continue to evolve
- 53:21and change with the times, then you can stick around, you know,
- 53:24and people will still consume what you do.
- 53:27I mean, if you look at big businesses like McDonald's and
- 53:29Coca, Cola and stuff. Like they could probably get by
- 53:32just doing the same thing they've been doing for the last
- 53:3350 years, but they don't need. They always, they do do that,
- 53:37but they also add new products all the time.
- 53:39Trial different things, do fun, contests whatever.
- 53:42Try to keep people's attention and and remind them like hey, We
- 53:46Exist by our stuff. And I think one of the
- 53:50interesting things I've noticed Tick-Tock has been doing over
- 53:52the last sort of two years is connecting with a lot of
- 53:55businesses and staff and setting up like events and what not?
- 53:59ER and getting into that side of things.
- 54:01So they're kind of seeping into like General culture now.
- 54:05So like you might not necessarily have everyone in
- 54:08public on Tick-Tock. But chances are you got a fair
- 54:10few people that have, at least checked it out.
- 54:12Maybe they have a profile, maybe they don't, but they're aware of
- 54:14it. They know what it is.
- 54:15They see the marketing for it. They're aware of it.
- 54:17So Tick-Tock has done a good job in that respect, but do I
- 54:20personally think they'll stick around I don't know.
- 54:26I said they've got at least got another five years, but after
- 54:28that, we'll see. One person can go to another
- 54:31app. I don't see why he would want to
- 54:33buy this app, and he bought Tick-Tock why?
- 54:37I don't know. He seems to be having fun with
- 54:40that. And that's a bit of a dumpster
- 54:41fire right now, but yeah, I think he'd be crazy to buy tick
- 54:46time. He's crazy to buy Twitter, so
- 54:48buying ticked up with just be a full-on meltdown.
- 54:50Anyone info leaks out about the CCP using data collected from
- 54:54Tick-Tock for Large and tracking app gets banned.
- 54:58Hmm. I mean that ties into what you
- 55:01were saying earlier about how you know, the conspiracy
- 55:02theories and how it could be a real.
- 55:04It could actually be for that intended purpose.
- 55:07I think it's likely but you never know, you never know.
- 55:11One person just simply said, I hope there won't be if I'm being
- 55:14honest. Yeah I just I hope there's no
- 55:16future for Tick-Tock scooter got, I hope maybe exists but
- 55:20they get held accountable for their data protection stuff and
- 55:24they get forced to sort of act. In accordance with the law and
- 55:27the rules. Yeah, I don't know if it
- 55:29disappears 10 more will step in to replace it.
- 55:32This is why capitalism Works. People want to get rich.
- 55:35That doesn't mean that they can't share the wealth, though.
- 55:38I'm not gonna get into a discussion about capitalism and
- 55:40if it works or not. But what I will say is that I
- 55:43agree with the first part of this sentence, if it disappears
- 55:4510 more will step in to replace it.
- 55:48Then there's always something around the corner when vine shut
- 55:51down, Tick-Tock emerged. You know, and a lot of people
- 55:55have said that vine was better and yeah, I agree.
- 55:58It probably was but Tick-Tock has kind of Incorporated.
- 56:01Vine. People still do like Vine type
- 56:03videos but now it's music-related as well and it
- 56:06doesn't have to have music but you know that is basically just
- 56:09Vine with music and what will be the next thing?
- 56:13Probably something based in virtual reality, who, who knows?
- 56:17But that brings us to the end of this episode on Tick-Tock.
- 56:21I hope you've enjoyed it. I hope it wasn't too much of a
- 56:23ramble thong. Um, and I hope I was coherent.
- 56:25And actually gave you guys something worth listening to, or
- 56:28watching will have your preferences, because I know
- 56:31there's some people watch this on YouTube and Spotify, nice,
- 56:34pretty mad. I'm starting to wonder if video
- 56:36versions will be available in the other platforms.
- 56:38At some point was crazy. When Spotify actually added
- 56:41video for creators like me, like, it started at the beta
- 56:44feature. I thought it was just going to
- 56:46be available for big creators like Joe Rogan and stuff, but
- 56:49then like about three, four months back, I saw this beta
- 56:53feature. Bata bata bata, bata feature
- 56:57enabling you to upload videos as I surely not.
- 57:00And then I replaced all of the recordings as many as I could
- 57:04basically all the way up to like, episode 19.
- 57:06Because I think before episode 19, I was Audio Only.
- 57:08And after episode 19, it was video video video, but it was
- 57:13kept the audio versions as well. And I do that for those who
- 57:15don't know behind the scenes, I record a resume version of the
- 57:18podcast and then an audio version and I normally just
- 57:21upload the zoom:1. Cuz the recording comes out well
- 57:24but if it doesn't, I'll upload the edited edited audio version.
- 57:29So boring podcast took their but yeah, it's simple.
- 57:33That's how it works. I hope that you enjoyed this
- 57:35show. If you have any questions about
- 57:38Tick-Tock or you want to do a follow-up or something, let me
- 57:41know if you have ideas for topics you'd like me to cover in
- 57:44the future or guests that you'd like to see appear on the show
- 57:47or if you would like to appear on the show and you have
- 57:49something particular you'd like to discuss or you just want to
- 57:52promote yourself and have a good old.
- 57:53Annoyed with me. Chin.
- 57:54Wag conversation with me. Send me an email at Christian
- 57:59Reeve podcast at gmail.com. Thank you so much for watching
- 58:04for listening. I hope you enjoyed this show.
- 58:06As much as I did doing it, I'm going to go and eat or sleep or
- 58:10something crash. I don't know.
- 58:11Answer that properly. Thank you so much.
- 58:13I love you and I'll see you all in the next episode.
