- 0:17Speaker 1: I hope you had a great weekend. As we get
- 0:19Speaker 1: ready to settle back in for our weeks of morning
- 0:22Speaker 1: moments with Jesus devotion time, pray that you enjoyed last
- 0:26Speaker 1: Friday's front porch Friday moment. And as we get ready
- 0:29Speaker 1: for this week, the Lord comes to us from Psalm
- 0:31Speaker 1: Chapter eight, verses three and four, kind of reflection on
- 0:37Speaker 1: just standing in the awe of who God is. Sometimes
- 0:40Speaker 1: we don't take enough time to do that, So I
- 0:42Speaker 1: wanted to read these scriptures this morning and share some
- 0:45Speaker 1: thoughts with you. The Lord says in his Holy Word,
- 0:49Speaker 1: when I consider the heavens, the Psalmist is writing this
- 0:54Speaker 1: about his thought process towards just who God is. He says,
- 1:00Speaker 1: when I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,
- 1:05Speaker 1: the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained, What
- 1:11Speaker 1: is Man that thou art mindful of him? And the
- 1:14Speaker 1: son of Man that thou visitest him? And I was
- 1:20Speaker 1: thinking about these verses this morning, and during our recent
- 1:22Speaker 1: trip to the Rocky Mountains, there were moments when I
- 1:27Speaker 1: just simply had to stop and take all of it in,
- 1:30Speaker 1: standing on mountaintops and looking as they towered in front
- 1:33Speaker 1: of me and above me, seeing valleys that stretched out
- 1:37Speaker 1: from a distance below, and just hearing the water rushing
- 1:41Speaker 1: through the rocks, and just if you can imagine those visions,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I became very aware of just how small I really am,
- 1:50Speaker 1: And strangely enough, as I was thinking about that, there
- 1:53Speaker 1: was something very comforting about that. Also, because sometimes life
- 1:57Speaker 1: has a way of making us feel like everything depends
- 1:59Speaker 1: on us. So we carry responsibilities, we make decisions, we
- 2:04Speaker 1: solve problems every day, and we worry about things that
- 2:08Speaker 1: are going to happen tomorrow to way too often, and
- 2:11Speaker 1: before long our world can become very small because all
- 2:15Speaker 1: we can see are the things that are directly in
- 2:18Speaker 1: front of us, are the things that just affect us.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But standing on those mountains reminded me of just how
- 2:25Speaker 1: big God is. Not just how small I am, but
- 2:29Speaker 1: I became very aware of just how big and how
- 2:32Speaker 1: powerful our God really is. Because the God who formed
- 2:37Speaker 1: those mountains and carved those valleys and filled those streams
- 2:41Speaker 1: and painted those skies, he's the same God who knows
- 2:44Speaker 1: my name. And somehow, while standing in all of his creation,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I became even more aware of his kindness and his
- 2:54Speaker 1: mercy and his great love. For me, and David must
- 2:58Speaker 1: have experienced something very similar when he wrote, what is
- 3:02Speaker 1: Man that thou art mindful of him? Let's you think
- 3:06Speaker 1: about that for a moment. The God who holds the
- 3:09Speaker 1: entire universe together is mindful of you. He knows what
- 3:15Speaker 1: you're facing today. He knows the prayers you haven't found
- 3:18Speaker 1: the words to pray yet. I'm speaking to someone this morning.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I know aim because I can feel the Holy Spirit
- 3:25Speaker 1: right now very strong. He knows what's keeping you awake
- 3:28Speaker 1: at night, and he sees the disappointment that you haven't
- 3:32Speaker 1: even told anyone else about. You keep holding it all
- 3:35Speaker 1: quietly inside, and I want you to know this morning
- 3:39Speaker 1: he cares about all of that. Maybe that's why we
- 3:42Speaker 1: need to leave room for awe, to just stand in
- 3:46Speaker 1: awe of God's creation, but also his kindness and love
- 3:51Speaker 1: towards us, so we can become so accustomed to God's
- 3:55Speaker 1: goodness that we stop being amazed by it. I don't
- 4:00Speaker 1: ever want to get that way, and I don't ever
- 4:01Speaker 1: want you to get that way. Perhaps another sunrise comes
- 4:05Speaker 1: and goes, another prayer is answered, another day of grace
- 4:09Speaker 1: carries you through, Another failure is met with God's mercy.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Maybe another opportunity to begin again is placed before us,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and sometimes we hardly even notice, and we sure sometimes stop,
- 4:22Speaker 1: don't stop long enough to thank God for his kindness
- 4:27Speaker 1: and his goodness and his mercy towards us. In Psalm
- 4:30Speaker 1: forty six, verse number ten, the Lord has the Psalmist
- 4:35Speaker 1: to write, be still and know that I am God.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Perhaps being still isn't only about stopping what we're doing.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Maybe it's about slowing down long enough to remember just
- 4:51Speaker 1: who God really is. Today, I want you to look around.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I want you to take time to notice the sky,
- 4:59Speaker 1: to listen to the birds, to watch the trees move
- 5:03Speaker 1: as the breeze blows through them. Want you to think
- 5:06Speaker 1: about the prayers that God has answered for you, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: the places where His mercy has carried you through every
- 5:13Speaker 1: single time. You may feel small in this enormous world,
- 5:19Speaker 1: but you are never insignificant to God, and the one
- 5:24Speaker 1: who created it all is still mindful of you and me.
- 5:29Speaker 1: So today just slow down, be safe, be strong, and
- 5:34Speaker 1: be blessed, and be still and leave a little room
- 5:40Speaker 1: to stand in awe of the Almighty God. Lords, we
- 5:45Speaker 1: will see you back here again tomorrow, and until then,
- 5:49Speaker 1: sure hope you have a great day.
