SPEAKER_03: Hello, and welcome to the Overclock Remix Podcast.
• 0:53
SPEAKER_03: This is episode number 21, covering the month of July, 2026.
• 0:58
SPEAKER_03: My name is Zack, and something about Secret of Mana just screams summer to me.
• 1:03
SPEAKER_03: No real reason for it either.
• 1:05
SPEAKER_03: I don't think I first played the game during the summer or anything like that.
• 1:08
SPEAKER_03: There is there is a song on the soundtrack called Color of the Summer Sky, but I don't think that one song title colored my entire impression of the game.
• 1:19
SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think at the end of the day, it's just the color palette of the game.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_03: It doesn't quite look like any other Super Nintendo game.
• 1:28
SPEAKER_03: Uh but the colors of Secret of Mana, especially the early part of the game, just look like summer in my hometown.
• 1:35
SPEAKER_03: Anyway, our intro song playing in was Into the Funk of It by Tetramino from Secret of Mana.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_03: Game Set Mash, the video game music mashup competition, is back for round five.
• 2:27
SPEAKER_03: If this is your first GSM, how it works is that there are two teams, and every week both teams will pick a song from their game that week.
• 2:37
SPEAKER_03: That gives us three pairs of songs, and both teams have to make a mashup track for each pair.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_03: At the end, we get a whole lot of music, and we vote on it, and one team is victorious and the other team is dead.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_03: So anyway, this time around, we are mashing up the music of the Persona series and the Fire Emblem series.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_03: Which did Atlas already do that on the Wii U?
• 3:01
SPEAKER_03: Anyway, uh, I can't let a good idea go to waste.
• 3:05
SPEAKER_03: Specifically, we're doing the games uh Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 on the one side, and on the other side, Fire Emblem, Sacred Stones, Awakening, and Three Houses.
• 3:17
SPEAKER_03: So make sure you keep checking out the forums so that you don't miss when tracks are ready to vote on.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_03: First round should be coming up pretty soon.
• 3:26
SPEAKER_03: Our news music this month was Step Off My Flower Bed by Naze Naze?
• 3:32
  SPEAKER_03: N-A-S-E.
• 3:34
SPEAKER_03: Not sure how to pronounce that, but it's from Secret of Mana.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_03: Let's move on to some new releases.
• 20:06
SPEAKER_03: Uh and so we're starting out this episode with a really emotional piano piece.
• 20:10
SPEAKER_03: It's a little wistful, a little truthful, and it's it's not unlike the game itself in a way.
• 20:16
SPEAKER_03: After that, we had Hello Goodbye by Duranjan from Lufia 2, Rise of the Sinestrals.
• 20:24
SPEAKER_03: Uh, and this is just classic Duranjan shreddage.
• 20:28
SPEAKER_03: The dude is good at what he does, and what he does is he shreds that guitar real good.
• 20:34
  SPEAKER_03: You gotta love it.
• 20:35
SPEAKER_03: After that, we had Sirion Dives Under by Artem Bank from Luvia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals.
• 20:43
  SPEAKER_03: And oh man.
• 20:45
SPEAKER_03: It's very proggy, and anyone who's listened to this podcast knows I love prog.
• 20:55
SPEAKER_03: But towards the middle, I definitely also hear a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit.
• 21:02
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna do what's over the world.
• 21:54
SPEAKER_03: Before we do that, you may be wondering tracks.
• 35:58
SPEAKER_03: So coming back, we got what has been and what can never be Nordian Warrior from Super Mario Galaxy.
• 36:05
SPEAKER_03: And just for the track title, I really expected this to be classic run.
• 36:17
  SPEAKER_03: It's got a real to it.
• 36:23
SPEAKER_03: After that we had the end of fire.
• 36:31
  SPEAKER_03: Very symphonic metal.
• 36:33
  SPEAKER_03: I love it.
• 36:34
SPEAKER_03: And of course, it has my beloved rock organ, which I always love to hear.
• 36:40
SPEAKER_03: After that was A Vile Medley by Hemophilia, Cameron Zeitzman, Hurdle Josh, and this is JC from Gravity Circuit.
• 36:51
SPEAKER_03: And we've heard this one before.
• 36:53
SPEAKER_03: This is a track from the previous GameSet Mash competition, which was Mega Man vs.
• 36:59
SPEAKER_03: Newer Mega Man inspired games.
• 37:02
SPEAKER_03: So while this track is credited to Gravity Circuit, Vile's theme for Mega Man X is, of course, lurking in the background, much like Vile himself.
• 37:10
SPEAKER_03: Alright, one more block of new music to go.
• 44:23
SPEAKER_01: Walking to the pet store board working bought a dog I can't afford my bad sign the papers with my pa real Rake sure that's not the law deal My duck ate my favorite shoe positive Then he ate the other two finitive He whipped on my new white rug Then he gave my face a hug Fair hook drink from the bowl toilet train that's not what I meant at all the Millman's face now we're bad from that place all the way to the United States.
• 47:14
SPEAKER_01: Give my dog good advice but I just wanted to deal.
• 47:25
SPEAKER_01: Is the dumbest dog alive for the colour?
• 52:46
SPEAKER_03: This is a well-produced, competent trance track.
• 52:50
SPEAKER_03: Uh, and it definitely has that old school overclocked remix feel to it.
• 52:55
SPEAKER_03: There was, in fact, a time where there were a lot of tracks of this style being posted.
• 53:01
SPEAKER_03: Uh and that's definitely tapered off over the years, but this is this is right up there with, I think, the classics from back in the day.
• 53:10
SPEAKER_03: Uh after that we had Cinnamon Rolls by Xalef, Pixels and Paradiddles, Roland N.
• 53:17
SPEAKER_03: Lara Quinte Martinez, Zack Parish, and JSA Blixer.
• 53:22
SPEAKER_03: This is from Valdus Story Abyssal City.
• 53:25
SPEAKER_03: I have had this game in my Steam library for ages, and I just have yet to boot it up once.
• 53:32
SPEAKER_03: I really ought to change that, especially since I'm just now learning that Zack Parrish is in fact the composer of the original soundtrack.
• 53:41
SPEAKER_03: As for this mix itself, there's something that feels very Primous about it, and I dig that.
• 53:47
SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's not a sound that we get very often.
• 53:49
SPEAKER_03: So lastly, we had another Lufia 2 track, Step to the Journey by Rakos.
• 53:55
SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I love the transition here uh from the start of the track, which is just like, oh yeah, this is definitely JRPG music, to whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop-oh, oh, it's still a JRPG remix.
• 54:09
SPEAKER_03: It's just, you know, dubstep.
• 54:11
SPEAKER_03: That's all the new music we had, but it's time for a segment.
• 54:16
SPEAKER_03: So I sat down with the directors of Lufia 2 of Gods and Men, who on the internet go by Mohammed and Garyo, uh, but you will hear me referring to them as Wes and Greg, their regular boring deep space names.
• 54:34
SPEAKER_03: Uh but this is an album project with a lot of history, and I wanted to dig a little deeper into what went down in the 17-year development cycle of this album.
• 54:49
  SPEAKER_03: Hi, Craig.
• 54:50
  SPEAKER_03: Hi, Craig.
• 54:51
SPEAKER_03: Well, okay, so before we get into Luffy 2 though, uh, how about you guys introduce yourselves and talk a little about how you got into OCR?
• 55:00
  SPEAKER_05: Uh Russian.
• 55:01
  SPEAKER_05: Who's first?
• 55:04
SPEAKER_03: I'll let you go first because I know you've been in OCR for a long time, because I definitely recall arguing with you on IRC when that was still a thing.
• 55:15
SPEAKER_05: So, uh, Bahamut, uh, my real name is Wes.
• 55:20
SPEAKER_05: Uh I've been uh around OCR for quite a long time now.
• 55:25
SPEAKER_05: Uh since around uh I wanna say either 2002 or 2003.
• 55:31
SPEAKER_05: Uh I uh originally found OCR through uh one of those old uh peer-to-peer music downloading apps.
• 55:41
SPEAKER_05: I think the one I uh found was uh via audio galaxy.
• 55:46
SPEAKER_05: I remember seeing some uh OCR songs uh tagged.
• 55:50
SPEAKER_05: Uh like I found Terra in Black and some other ones, and then I'm like, you know, I keep seeing this name pop up.
• 55:57
SPEAKER_05: Uh I'm gonna go take a look and see what this is, bro.
• 56:00
SPEAKER_05: And then it was uh Discovery.
• 56:04
SPEAKER_03: Terra in Black, uh some Zelda song credited to System of a Down.
• 56:08
  SPEAKER_03: You know.
• 56:09
SPEAKER_02: It's not uh how about you, Gary?
• 56:14
  SPEAKER_02: Oh howdy.
• 56:15
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh I'm Greg.
• 56:17
SPEAKER_02: And uh Hi Craig, I'm Greg.
• 56:19
SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah, I started on OCR pretty early not quite as early as Bob, but still early enough.
• 56:27
  SPEAKER_02: About 2007-2008.
• 56:29
SPEAKER_02: I think I started in 2007 technically, but I didn't start posting on the forums until 2008.
• 56:34
SPEAKER_02: Uh nobody believes me on the story to this day, but I was actually um looking for uh uh websites for uh video game music just in case anybody already had the idea to put that out there before I started my own.
• 56:48
SPEAKER_02: And uh found overclocked remix.
• 56:50
  SPEAKER_02: I'm like, well, shit.
• 56:52
  SPEAKER_02: You know, participate.
• 56:54
SPEAKER_02: You know, um whatever idea I had would have been crap anyway, you know.
• 56:58
SPEAKER_02: I don't know anything about making uh websites.
• 57:01
SPEAKER_02: So just be glad that uh Dave's the one who set it up and not me.
• 57:05
SPEAKER_05: You would have learned by fire.
• 57:07
  SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
• 57:08
SPEAKER_02: Uh I probably would have gave up, are you kidding me?
• 57:11
  SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah.
• 57:13
SPEAKER_02: No, um start really started on the site just being one of those um works in progress uh lurkers, just uh constantly constantly looked at people's music, gave my feedback wherever I could.
• 57:24
SPEAKER_02: I come from uh I come from a uh music school background, so thought I'd put it to good use.
• 57:30
SPEAKER_02: Eventually I learned how to make music.
• 57:32
SPEAKER_03: This is a excellent use for music schooling, I think a very noble use.
• 57:38
SPEAKER_02: It is currently my only use for my education now, so that and Lufia, but we'll get to that.
• 57:45
SPEAKER_03: Well, so let's let's start talking about um Lufia 2.
• 57:49
SPEAKER_03: Uh now before we go into like Lufia 2 as an album project on Overcollect Remix, what about what are your experiences with the game of Lufia 2?
• 57:59
SPEAKER_05: It was much better than Lufia 1.
• 58:02
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, way better.
• 58:04
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, my own Lufia 2 story, I'll I'll go first.
• 58:07
  SPEAKER_03: It's very short.
• 58:08
  SPEAKER_03: I played Lufia 1.
• 58:09
SPEAKER_03: I thought it was mediocre.
• 58:11
SPEAKER_03: I ignored Lufia 2 until in March, when Cyril the Wolf is like, no man, you gotta play it before the album comes out.
• 58:24
SPEAKER_03: So I played it this year, and it was great, yes.
• 58:27
SPEAKER_03: So much better than Lufia 2.
• 58:28
  SPEAKER_03: Uh Lufia 1, it's mind-boggling.
• 58:30
SPEAKER_02: Um The uh question everyone has to ask, how far did you get in the ancient cave?
• 58:35
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, not super far.
• 58:37
SPEAKER_03: I maybe went like five levels, and I was like, yeah, that's enough of this.
• 58:40
SPEAKER_03: Uh uh if I want the roguelike experience, I've got I've got other games for that.
• 58:46
  SPEAKER_03: Fair enough.
• 58:46
SPEAKER_03: So did you guys play this like back in the day on physical hardware or yeah, back in the day, but still on emulator.
• 58:55
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's a lot of games I've experienced that way.
• 59:08
SPEAKER_03: I and even more than that, like, even if theoretically you could afford them, you have to find a place that physically has the copy, and at least where I was living, like, RPGs weren't exactly crowding the store shelves.
• 59:21
  SPEAKER_03: It's pretty tough.
• 59:22
SPEAKER_05: We had a Toys R Us guide me where I grew up, so that's where I got a lot of my games.
• 59:28
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Toys R Us did sell games like that back in the day.
• 59:31
SPEAKER_02: Uh, never saw Luffy 2 on there.
• 59:33
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely an emulator kid myself, though I did in my adult years, uh pick up the actual game for a couple hundred dollars.
• 59:42
  SPEAKER_02: Cool.
• 59:42
SPEAKER_02: You know, uh sorry about that, I'm allergic to a lot of money.
• 59:45
SPEAKER_05: Did you ever play the uh the remake?
• 59:48
  SPEAKER_02: I did, actually.
• 59:50
SPEAKER_03: Oh, I forgot there was a what was that?
• 59:52
  SPEAKER_03: A PS2 game?
• 59:53
  SPEAKER_03: It's a DS game.
• 59:54
  SPEAKER_05: No DS?
• 59:55
  SPEAKER_05: PS.
• 59:56
  SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
• 59:57
SPEAKER_02: I now that I actually do own a hard copy of or you know, the cartridge of.
• 1:00:02
SPEAKER_02: I bought it pretty early.
• 1:00:03
  SPEAKER_02: Actually, it's too.
• 1:00:05
SPEAKER_02: No, I love the game.
• 1:00:06
SPEAKER_02: I think it was great for what it was.
• 1:00:08
  SPEAKER_02: It's not a replacement of Lufia 2.
• 1:00:10
SPEAKER_02: It is its own thing.
• 1:00:12
SPEAKER_02: It's kinda it's like kind of like comparing Diablo 2 to Diablo 3.
• 1:00:15
  SPEAKER_02: They're their own thing.
• 1:00:15
SPEAKER_02: You can enjoy both, but one does not replace the other.
• 1:00:18
  SPEAKER_02: Sure.
• 1:00:19
SPEAKER_05: It's more like an action PC type of game, as they definitely change up the gameplay, but I think it's fine.
• 1:00:26
SPEAKER_02: Um the difficulty fights were very funny.
• 1:00:30
SPEAKER_03: Definitely uh rearranged the soundtrack, or were they just like running with Super Nintendo samples?
• 1:00:36
SPEAKER_02: They did something interesting, actually.
• 1:00:39
SPEAKER_02: Um sorry, sorry, Wes, if you want to.
• 1:00:41
SPEAKER_05: I don't remember what they did with the soundtrack exactly.
• 1:00:43
  SPEAKER_05: I feel like they rearranged it, but I I'm not 100%.
• 1:00:48
SPEAKER_02: They rearranged the soundtrack, and then they took a lot of tracks from Lufia 1 to fill a lot of the gaps.
• 1:00:56
SPEAKER_02: So there's a nice healthy blend of Lufia 1 and Lufia 2.
• 1:01:01
SPEAKER_02: In fact, that's actually one of the ideas that we had kind of in the middle of the album was to kind of compromise on the Lufia idea by allowing tracks from the DS.
• 1:01:10
SPEAKER_02: Never really panned out, but we'll get to that when we get to that from talk to that the album.
• 1:01:14
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the um I mean the soundtrack uh the origin of the for the original game is pretty meaty for when it came out, I think.
• 1:01:22
  SPEAKER_02: Great.
• 1:01:23
SPEAKER_02: Even the first game had a great soundtrack.
• 1:01:25
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the first game did have a good soundtrack.
• 1:01:26
SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, the first game had like a great soundtrack and impeccable style.
• 1:01:31
SPEAKER_03: It was just kind of boring.
• 1:01:33
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:01:34
SPEAKER_02: That sums up the first game.
• 1:01:36
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like it it didn't do anything bad.
• 1:01:39
SPEAKER_03: It was just sort of there.
• 1:01:41
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I have a soft spot for the first game, but yeah, it it is a little bit.
• 1:01:45
SPEAKER_02: It's not the game I would recommend for.
• 1:01:46
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like it's it's super charming.
• 1:01:49
  SPEAKER_03: Uh, but yeah.
• 1:01:51
SPEAKER_03: Uh the second one, I I would definitely tell someone, like, play Lufia 2, and if you really, really liked it, then go back and play Lufia 1.
• 1:01:59
SPEAKER_05: I don't even tell people played the original, to be honest.
• 1:02:05
SPEAKER_02: There I actually played the original all almost all the way through first.
• 1:02:10
SPEAKER_02: It really is a different experience playing the second game, knowing the whole story of the first game.
• 1:02:16
SPEAKER_02: Because I do throw some twists and turns from your expectations from the first game and the second game.
• 1:02:21
SPEAKER_02: Like the ending has a much greater impact if you played the first game.
• 1:02:25
SPEAKER_07: Right, because that's a big twist on it.
• 1:02:27
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I feel like there is definitely room to do something like that, because um the first game is set uh what several hundred years after the uh Lufia 2, right?
• 1:02:37
  SPEAKER_03: Luffy 2 is a substantial prequel.
• 1:02:40
  SPEAKER_03: I thought.
• 1:02:41
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 1:02:41
  SPEAKER_03: Okay, just a hundred.
• 1:02:42
SPEAKER_02: In fact, they specifically say 99 years, so yeah.
• 1:02:45
  SPEAKER_02: Oh.
• 1:02:46
SPEAKER_03: Um, well let's let's actually get into some of the music.
• 1:02:49
SPEAKER_03: Um, so this album, Lufia 2, of Gods and Men, uh, Wes, you, as I recall, kicked off the project.
• 1:02:56
SPEAKER_03: So do you do you want to talk about the early days and maybe the first half of the development of the album?
• 1:03:02
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so uh you know, uh the song uh the song that uh originally inspired me really wanting to uh do this album.
• 1:03:11
SPEAKER_05: Obviously, like the the game had uh a great soundtrack, otherwise I wouldn't have been interested in the first place, I think.
• 1:03:18
SPEAKER_05: But um was the overworld theme, the earth I really enjoyed that song.
• 1:03:43
SPEAKER_05: Uh I feel like um you don't really see any rearrangements of that song.
• 1:03:49
SPEAKER_05: Uh and I feel it's like a pretty solid overworld theme.
• 1:03:54
SPEAKER_05: Like I definitely enjoy it.
• 1:03:55
SPEAKER_05: Um it doesn't try to be a side.
• 1:03:57
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I definitely sorry, go ahead.
• 1:03:59
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it it doesn't try to be bombastic or anything like that, where like a lot of overworld themes, if you think about a bunch of RPGs out there, like tries to go.
• 1:04:08
SPEAKER_05: Uh it takes a it takes a different approach.
• 1:04:10
  SPEAKER_03: Uh uh I I I like the overworld theme a lot.
• 1:04:14
SPEAKER_03: Um I feel like it's one of those themes where you you kind of have to like it a lot because you hear it so much.
• 1:04:19
SPEAKER_05: I mean, I feel like that's the case of overworld themes and RPGs in general, but I feel like uh they've gotten a little more generic as a whole.
• 1:04:29
SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, the entire concept of an overworld has all but disappeared from JRPGs in general.
• 1:04:37
SPEAKER_03: Um uh when I I played uh Expedition 33 earlier this year, and I was I remember leaving like one of the early areas of the game and sitting there for a second because I was like, wait, I don't understand what's just happened in the gameplay.
• 1:04:53
SPEAKER_03: Like it's really zoomed out and the characters are suddenly tiny, and oh my god, it's a world map! I forgot that was a thing.
• 1:05:01
SPEAKER_05: You know, that was the area of the game where I stopped.
• 1:05:05
SPEAKER_05: I need to go back and play that game.
• 1:05:07
SPEAKER_05: Uh like I enjoyed it.
• 1:05:09
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 1:05:10
SPEAKER_05: So much going on, and now I forgot like everything, so I'm gonna have to start over from the beginning.
• 1:05:16
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I played through I I guess what you'd call act one.
• 1:05:20
SPEAKER_03: I forget what the game itself calls its like story beat divisions, but I played through act one and I really loved it, but it was around the time that work just got crazy, so I and I have not gone back to it since.
• 1:05:30
SPEAKER_05: It did have a good soundtrack from my memory, though.
• 1:05:33
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it definitely had a good soundtrack.
• 1:05:35
SPEAKER_03: Um anyway, that was a digression.
• 1:05:38
SPEAKER_03: So you love the world map theme.
• 1:05:40
SPEAKER_03: Uh so so you were like, I'm gonna start a Luffy 2 album.
• 1:05:43
  SPEAKER_03: What what happened then?
• 1:05:44
SPEAKER_05: Well then, uh I messaged a lot of people.
• 1:05:47
SPEAKER_05: Uh and um I mean a good a good portion of the people like did their tracks in a relatively timely fashion, but you know, um it's kinda hard.
• 1:05:58
  SPEAKER_05: Uh I'm not a musician.
• 1:06:00
SPEAKER_05: So I feel that I can't like uh exert any hard pressure or anything like that.
• 1:06:06
SPEAKER_05: It's more trying to control people to uh to go for the deadlines, although I guess deadlines are a bit arbitrary and that's a bit troublesome in itself.
• 1:06:18
SPEAKER_05: Trying to get uh people motivated to uh to get the the stuff done.
• 1:06:24
SPEAKER_05: Um and obviously it dragged on a little, a couple years.
• 1:06:30
SPEAKER_05: And then I've had some big life changes happen in my side where uh I went to uh boot camp for the Marine Corps.
• 1:06:39
SPEAKER_03: Um that is a big life change.
• 1:06:41
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, no internet for uh I think it was about uh five months for me.
• 1:06:48
SPEAKER_05: Normally it's uh three months, but then uh I fractured my hand during boot camp, so the extra two months spent there.
• 1:06:56
  SPEAKER_05: Not fun.
• 1:06:57
  SPEAKER_05: I don't recommend it.
• 1:06:59
SPEAKER_05: Being stuck for an extra two months then.
• 1:07:04
SPEAKER_05: I mean boot camp, I knew what I was signing up for roughly, so you know.
• 1:07:09
SPEAKER_05: You're signing up for suck.
• 1:07:11
SPEAKER_03: And and uh you had uh you had directed an album before this, right?
• 1:07:14
SPEAKER_03: Like Luffy 2 was not your first attempt at directing an album.
• 1:07:17
  SPEAKER_05: So uh let's see.
• 1:07:19
  SPEAKER_05: There were four.
• 1:07:21
  SPEAKER_05: Uh actually.
• 1:07:22
SPEAKER_05: The uh the first one was uh serious monkey business, uh the second one was uh Maverick Rising, so Mega Man X series.
• 1:07:32
SPEAKER_05: And that's uh I forget what the order was.
• 1:07:36
SPEAKER_05: Did I start Lucia 2 or did I start Secret of Mana?
• 1:07:40
SPEAKER_03: Um Oh I didn't realize uh Secret of Mana had uh such a long development time too, because uh Yeah, that's my fault too.
• 1:07:50
SPEAKER_05: Uh I am so glad that uh Kane was able to uh take that to the finish line, and of course that Greg was able to take this to the finish line, so I deeply appreciate it, and I'm sure the musicians who worked on the tracks also deeply appreciate it.
• 1:08:06
  SPEAKER_05: Like, finally.
• 1:08:09
SPEAKER_02: Got a lot of that when we had comments from the uh album.
• 1:08:13
SPEAKER_03: Well, so okay, so that's a great segue.
• 1:08:16
SPEAKER_03: Uh uh Greg, tell us uh first of all, how did you get involved, and then where where did you take it?
• 1:08:22
SPEAKER_02: Well, uh actually reading the uh album uh the album page right now, I apparently got involved one day after Bahamut made the album more public.
• 1:08:31
SPEAKER_02: So I'm like, hell, this is Lufia.
• 1:08:33
SPEAKER_02: I've gotta take some music from.
• 1:08:34
SPEAKER_02: I love Lufia, and you know, I'm a big fan of the game for ages, so I was really happy to see somebody put the music up front and center.
• 1:08:42
SPEAKER_02: Um, as far as what uh what ended up doing happening, I was kind of a fresh face on overclocked remix at the time, so I was not a posted remixer yet.
• 1:08:52
SPEAKER_02: So I definitely have to kind of uh oh my apologies.
• 1:08:56
SPEAKER_02: Oh no no, go ahead, go ahead.
• 1:08:57
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I had to kind of prove myself to show, you know, I I'm capable of doing something because fortunately the uh music I posted was considered good enough to consider the uh work in progress, and it's been a work in progress ever since.
• 1:09:12
  SPEAKER_02: Until recently.
• 1:09:13
SPEAKER_04: Did you regret taking it on?
• 1:09:16
SPEAKER_04: Did you regret taking it on?
• 1:09:19
  SPEAKER_02: Um no.
• 1:09:21
  SPEAKER_02: Well maybe.
• 1:09:23
  SPEAKER_02: No.
• 1:09:25
  SPEAKER_02: No, no.
• 1:09:25
SPEAKER_02: I I was always happy for the album.
• 1:09:27
SPEAKER_02: I like I kind of half-joked with people for years before the album, everyone's like, What when is it gonna be finished?
• 1:09:33
  SPEAKER_02: I'm like, it'll be done when it's done, but it's a good album, I promise.
• 1:09:36
SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, so I knew it was good, just I couldn't do much about it for various reasons.
• 1:09:42
SPEAKER_02: Mostly because I knew the boss track needed to be finished, and I'm really bad at tracking my feet, but we'll get there later in the story.
• 1:09:48
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, no, I start I started with uh just the attawer of the feet.
• 1:10:09
SPEAKER_02: And then I had a wacky idea for choral songs, so I probably put more time into that than I probably should have.
• 1:10:15
SPEAKER_02: Uh knowing that I knowing now that I wouldn't get the uh choir going, so to speak.
• 1:10:20
SPEAKER_02: So anyway, that's old history.
• 1:10:22
SPEAKER_02: Still an interesting track at the end of the day.
• 1:10:24
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, no, as time moved forward, things kind of slowed down, so I believe towards a couple years of the project, I kind of spoke with Wes a little bit about helping him out just to make sure people got their music out, just kind of act as kind of a um supplementary role for him directing.
• 1:10:40
SPEAKER_02: 2000, let me stay out of date here, 2010, October.
• 1:10:44
SPEAKER_02: That's when I was brought in as the uh co uh as kind of a co-director of the album.
• 1:10:49
SPEAKER_02: And then after a couple year a couple years of trying to whip people and uh having my own set of life changes, you know, I moved I actually moved out from my home.
• 1:10:56
SPEAKER_02: And eventually I found stable, uh pretty stable work in 2016, so I was able to uh take the reins of the project fully after that.
• 1:11:05
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that's about my involvement with the project.
• 1:11:08
SPEAKER_03: So so um what about that final push?
• 1:11:12
SPEAKER_03: Like, so one one thing I've been wondering about is I think when this album got started, uh, just in on the internet in general, like, you know, on forums and in IRC channels, uh, there was still a lot of enthusiasm about uh Lufia 2 in the ether.
• 1:11:33
SPEAKER_03: But I feel like uh over the years that sort of diluted and not as many people are like, oh man, Lufia 2, that's one of the all-time classic.
• 1:11:41
SPEAKER_03: Like, that's just sort of people seem to have gotten less enthusiastic about Lufia 2 over the years.
• 1:11:48
SPEAKER_03: So did that impact completing the project?
• 1:11:51
SPEAKER_02: Um, honestly, less than you think unless Bahama unless uh Wes has some commentary on it early on.
• 1:11:58
SPEAKER_02: The thing about Lufia 2 is that it's not really that Lufia 2 became less interesting and popular, though it kind of became more niche as the uh as the uh world turned, but it really is the commun the community itself kind of changed around around how albums operate.
• 1:12:15
SPEAKER_02: OCR had a model where you know everything was organized kind of in the forums, people could talk to each other in kind of one space, but that space changed significantly as we entered like the late teens and 2020s.
• 1:12:29
SPEAKER_02: Uh people moved on to uh like Discord, people moved on to uh other forms of communication.
• 1:12:34
SPEAKER_02: So it became tricky to uh grab everybody again to uh make sure that everybody was on track.
• 1:12:41
SPEAKER_02: Things kind of things kind of communication kind of splintered.
• 1:12:44
SPEAKER_02: Eventually we got a really eventually got a good hold of uh Discord and found everybody again, was able to bring them all together at the end.
• 1:12:50
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, communication ended up becoming pretty tricky when I can't rely on people seeing the overclock remix messages or the uh forum posts.
• 1:12:57
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I uh I still participate in a couple of old school forums, and it's it's really sad to see how they've um slowed to a crawl.
• 1:13:07
SPEAKER_03: Uh forum culture just isn't what it used to be.
• 1:13:12
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Reddit is absolutely to blame for that.
• 1:13:14
SPEAKER_03: Like Reddit I mean Reddit is basically the everything forum, right?
• 1:13:18
  SPEAKER_02: What's Reddit?
• 1:13:19
  SPEAKER_02: No, I just don't understand.
• 1:13:22
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I I quit Reddit a long time ago.
• 1:13:24
SPEAKER_03: I I think around when they uh when they introduced new Reddit, and I was like, well, this kind of sucks now.
• 1:13:32
  SPEAKER_02: They ruined it.
• 1:13:33
SPEAKER_05: So But also like people I imagine people also had life changes as well.
• 1:13:39
SPEAKER_02: Like Yeah, this album's almost old enough to drink.
• 1:13:42
SPEAKER_02: It's uh it's um almost old enough to uh go to war at least to vote.
• 1:13:47
  SPEAKER_02: Not drink.
• 1:13:48
  SPEAKER_02: That's a couple years off.
• 1:13:49
SPEAKER_03: But you know, people grow up.
• 1:13:51
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, I mean there's probably uh you know, people in high school now who uh like children of people uh involved in the album who didn't exist when the album was announced and are in high school now, right?
• 1:14:05
  SPEAKER_05: Like Dave has children.
• 1:14:11
SPEAKER_02: In theory, in another timeline, there could have been people there could have been people who participated in the very beginning whose children participated at the end, but I don't think there's any cases of that.
• 1:14:21
SPEAKER_02: But in theory, that could have happened.
• 1:14:22
SPEAKER_03: Oh, you should have gotten uh Zalith and Audio Mint to do something.
• 1:14:27
SPEAKER_03: Uh although I don't I don't know if he was involved in the very beginning.
• 1:14:31
  SPEAKER_03: I don't think he was.
• 1:14:32
SPEAKER_03: I don't see him on the list.
• 1:14:33
SPEAKER_02: Actually on the list itself.
• 1:14:36
  SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
• 1:14:37
SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, no, that yeah, it's like Wes said, people uh people's lives people's lives changed.
• 1:14:43
SPEAKER_02: I mean our lives changed.
• 1:14:44
SPEAKER_02: Wes went to boot camp.
• 1:14:45
SPEAKER_02: I moved and had to find uh find an alternative career in life.
• 1:14:49
SPEAKER_02: It was uh, you know, 17 years is a long time.
• 1:14:52
SPEAKER_02: It it yeah, it's a super long time.
• 1:14:55
SPEAKER_05: I mean the military isn't what I do now either.
• 1:14:58
  SPEAKER_02: Well no.
• 1:14:59
SPEAKER_02: Well no, I was talking about that first change you already talked about.
• 1:15:03
SPEAKER_02: You definitely went to bigger and better things after, I'll tell you that much.
• 1:15:07
SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, I have uh I myself have also also changed careers since the album was announced, so actually the album is older than uh my time in uh web development.
• 1:15:20
  SPEAKER_02: Nice.
• 1:15:21
SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, it's yep, also older than my time in development.
• 1:15:25
SPEAKER_02: It's older than my time in electrical engineering.
• 1:15:27
  SPEAKER_02: Don't don't you worry.
• 1:15:28
SPEAKER_02: We're all this album has taken all of our lives from uh so so uh what's next?
• 1:15:38
SPEAKER_03: I assume we're doing uh Lufia the Legend Returns album?
• 1:15:41
  SPEAKER_03: Lufia 3, of course.
• 1:15:43
SPEAKER_03: There is a Lufia 3, believe it or not.
• 1:15:45
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was uh what, Game Boy Color?
• 1:15:47
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Game Boy Color.
• 1:15:48
SPEAKER_03: I remember being super excited for it just because like uh I had played Lufia 1 and I had skipped Lufia 2, but like, ooh, they're going back and reviving this old 16-bit series.
• 1:15:59
  SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be awesome.
• 1:16:00
SPEAKER_03: And then I just never actually played the game.
• 1:16:03
SPEAKER_02: You know, that game actually has some history.
• 1:16:05
  SPEAKER_02: Uh, sorry, Wes.
• 1:16:06
  SPEAKER_05: Oh no, I didn't say anything.
• 1:16:08
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, okay.
• 1:16:08
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that game has some history.
• 1:16:10
SPEAKER_02: I believe it was supposed to be a PlayStation release, but fell through, so they had to downgrade it to a uh Game Boy release.
• 1:16:18
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's you know, there are a couple of games that I'm aware of that uh either started life on one of those platforms and moved to the other, or somehow like got a port.
• 1:16:30
SPEAKER_03: Like uh Dragon Quest Monsters got a PlayStation port, which is crazy to me.
• 1:16:35
SPEAKER_03: And then uh there was an RPG uh uh Azure Dreams that got a Game Boy Color version.
• 1:16:41
SPEAKER_03: It's like with you wouldn't think like JRPG's jumping from PlayStation to Game Boy specifically would be a thing, but it actually kind of was.
• 1:16:49
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Quest 64, the same thing.
• 1:16:52
SPEAKER_02: Jump from X64 to Game Boy Color.
• 1:16:54
SPEAKER_02: Apparently the Game Boy Color port's actually better.
• 1:17:01
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's called Brian's Adventure or something like that.
• 1:17:03
  SPEAKER_03: I'm not joking.
• 1:17:06
  SPEAKER_03: I still think it's a quote.
• 1:17:07
SPEAKER_03: I think it is still actually called like Quest 64 though, right?
• 1:17:11
SPEAKER_03: I don't think the number makes no sense anymore.
• 1:17:14
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's a lot of people.
• 1:17:15
  SPEAKER_03: I don't think it's 64.
• 1:17:17
SPEAKER_03: Oh, just I should have called it quest 8.
• 1:17:20
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love Quest 64, but that's conversation for another time.
• 1:17:25
SPEAKER_05: Wow, I had no idea this game existed.
• 1:17:28
  SPEAKER_03: Uh I I've heard it's decent.
• 1:17:31
SPEAKER_03: Uh I haven't played it myself, but uh I there's there's people I respect who have enjoyed it.
• 1:17:35
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it it's Quest.
• 1:17:37
  SPEAKER_02: It's just on a different platform.
• 1:17:39
  SPEAKER_02: I mean I I like the original game.
• 1:17:41
SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of a bad uh bad person to ask when it comes to that.
• 1:17:45
SPEAKER_05: I got so frustrated playing the original Quest 64.
• 1:17:49
SPEAKER_05: I remember being in that ice cave and not knowing what direction I was in after battles were done, not realizing that it actually made you face the direction you were originally in just before combat.
• 1:18:02
  SPEAKER_02: That's a good feature, but it's not a well-known one.
• 1:18:05
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:18:07
SPEAKER_05: Well, they didn't even teach it to you, so I discovered it after having stuck a couple hours and realizing it later, it's like, this is what's happening.
• 1:18:15
SPEAKER_02: Honestly, the fact that you got through the first cave is impressive.
• 1:18:18
SPEAKER_05: Well, it was the it was an ice cave, I think, or something like that.
• 1:18:22
SPEAKER_05: So it was pretty far in the game, I was gonna say.
• 1:18:25
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you you got about you got about like almost halfway through.
• 1:18:28
  SPEAKER_02: That's that's a good place to be at.
• 1:18:30
  SPEAKER_05: I beat the game.
• 1:18:31
SPEAKER_05: I remember liking the uh final boss to you for that game.
• 1:18:35
SPEAKER_03: We don't have any accepted quest 64 remixes.
• 1:18:40
SPEAKER_03: Well then we better change that.
• 1:18:42
SPEAKER_02: Alright, well that's the Donald Cal Lab.
• 1:18:44
  SPEAKER_03: Album project, right?
• 1:18:45
SPEAKER_02: Next album project, Quest 64.
• 1:18:49
SPEAKER_02: Make it uh make the announcement on April Fool's, then actually have it be an album.
• 1:18:53
SPEAKER_03: So so uh so do you guys have any uh aspirations of directing another album, or are you just gonna chill for a while?
• 1:19:00
SPEAKER_05: Well, I've been chilling for quite a while already.
• 1:19:03
  SPEAKER_05: I guess I gotta chill it.
• 1:19:07
  SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
• 1:19:08
SPEAKER_05: Like it is a lot of time.
• 1:19:10
SPEAKER_05: Um and I mean honestly, my contribution, I feel like, is more like organization or maybe setting like a particular direction potentially, but like I don't like to be too prescriptive because I'm not the one making music, so I feel like it's kind of a jerk move if I just go like super opinionated on some of these things, and it's like, bro, you don't do you don't even make music.
• 1:19:35
SPEAKER_05: What are you doing here?
• 1:19:39
SPEAKER_03: And you know, I I think um uh one of the things I like about Overclock Remix albums is the sheer variety.
• 1:19:46
SPEAKER_03: You know, I I feel like if you were to set like a a strong like genre direction, for example, that would that would probably be to an album's detriment.
• 1:19:56
  SPEAKER_05: Not necessarily.
• 1:19:56
SPEAKER_05: There's some albums that that did it.
• 1:19:58
SPEAKER_05: Uh I think the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one.
• 1:20:01
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Teenage Mutant Ninja that that did it.
• 1:20:04
  SPEAKER_03: My words immediately.
• 1:20:05
SPEAKER_03: That that turned out great.
• 1:20:07
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's TK orchestrated and symphony.
• 1:20:11
  SPEAKER_03: Uh uh Chrono Symphonic.
• 1:20:13
  SPEAKER_03: Uh Chrono Symphonic.
• 1:20:14
SPEAKER_05: Uh what was that other chrono trigger one?
• 1:20:17
SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, there was uh also Chrono Jazz, but I'm I'm blanking on the name.
• 1:20:21
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, meme too.
• 1:20:23
SPEAKER_02: The thing about having a single genre in an album is um it's polarizing, but not really in a bad way.
• 1:20:30
SPEAKER_02: People know right away if it's for them.
• 1:20:32
SPEAKER_02: Because it's like, oh, every song is like this.
• 1:20:34
SPEAKER_02: I love this, or this isn't for me.
• 1:20:36
SPEAKER_02: And they know what they're they know exactly what they're getting.
• 1:20:39
SPEAKER_02: There are benefits to that for sure.
• 1:20:41
SPEAKER_02: Also, if you think about it, uh sorry, go ahead, Wes.
• 1:20:44
SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say some people also make the uh cohesiveness argument like when you have it more uh like uh closer to like uh like a smaller set of genres that are maybe more intertwined than uh some people like appreciate that more from an overall album perspective too.
• 1:21:02
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and if if you think about it, like in the history of music, that is in fact how most albums have worked.
• 1:21:10
SPEAKER_03: Um but I mean uh I I thrive on variety.
• 1:21:14
  SPEAKER_03: I am a creature of novelty.
• 1:21:17
SPEAKER_03: Uh, and so, you know, uh overclocked remix albums uh that don't set like a specific genre are just delightful to me.
• 1:21:26
SPEAKER_03: I like you know I'm I'm thrilled when no two songs have the same genre.
• 1:21:31
  SPEAKER_02: It's interesting.
• 1:21:32
SPEAKER_02: Actually, there's a uh there was a teacher, a teacher back at um back in the university, I was and his name was uh Ellingbow.
• 1:21:40
SPEAKER_02: He was a choral teacher.
• 1:21:42
SPEAKER_02: He actually I kind of was following his philosophy when trying to organize the album at the end.
• 1:21:47
SPEAKER_02: His his philosophy was, you know, if you have a lot of disparate voices, you can um kind of blend things.
• 1:21:53
  SPEAKER_02: Blend things.
• 1:21:53
SPEAKER_02: He was a choral guy, so of course this is how he's gonna be talking about voices.
• 1:21:56
SPEAKER_02: But anyway, when it comes to the tracks, you can blend it in a kind of way where uh the differences are spread out so uh so evenly that it kind of sounds cohesive in its own way.
• 1:22:07
SPEAKER_02: So there's a there's a way to blend blend the track so they kind of lead into each other, so it doesn't feel quite as disjointed.
• 1:22:14
SPEAKER_02: I did try to do that as best as I could when I was um organizing the uh track layout.
• 1:22:18
SPEAKER_02: We'll see if I succeeded, but I think you did a pretty good job.
• 1:22:21
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I there there definitely is like an art to track layouts, I think.
• 1:22:26
SPEAKER_03: Uh I know there's been some albums that are just like this is the order the music appeared in the game, or like on the official OST, so that's the order we're gonna do remixes in.
• 1:22:37
SPEAKER_03: Then other albums are like, no no, we want to have like a good flow.
• 1:22:41
  SPEAKER_02: It's definitely a flow type album.
• 1:22:44
SPEAKER_02: I even did some uh listening tests with uh West a little while ago just to make sure it flowed well.
• 1:22:48
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like or like trying to pick an order for I feel like the tracks in this album is challenging.
• 1:22:55
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, especially with some of the age of the tracks, too.
• 1:22:58
SPEAKER_02: You know, it's not this is this album actually had a unique challenge in that it wasn't just the uh variety of um uh genres, it was also the um variety of um well I I guess I would say uh qual uh older quality versus newer quality tracks.
• 1:23:13
SPEAKER_02: They all came out great, but I mean a song from 2009 is oh sorry.
• 1:23:18
  SPEAKER_05: I don't think it's just that though either.
• 1:23:20
SPEAKER_05: Like uh I feel like uh some of the most popular tracks for artists to uh to put effort in, I feel like, were some of the slower tracks.
• 1:23:29
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, actually that was that was interesting.
• 1:23:32
SPEAKER_02: It was uh it was either battle one or a couple of the slower vocal tracks that really got people going.
• 1:23:37
SPEAKER_05: Like uh I think was it their three duets?
• 1:23:41
SPEAKER_05: Uh like uh Periphia Flowers, I think was a popular uh source choice, for example.
• 1:23:47
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a lot of the vocal tracks, the slower vocal tracks really um hit it off of people.
• 1:23:53
SPEAKER_02: Which I'm they're great tracks, I'm not surprised, but at the same time, you know, you would you would think that maybe you would think that uh Prince of Darkness would uh gotten a little more a little more uh praise than he did.
• 1:24:04
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:24:05
SPEAKER_02: Sorry, uh have an aunt tiny wild animal tearing through my stuff, but uh from my memory, isn't Tony's tracks um did it originally debut in uh Dwelling of Duels?
• 1:24:19
SPEAKER_02: It did debut in Dwelling of Duels.
• 1:24:22
SPEAKER_02: At the end, we actually talked to him about getting a um getting a um mastered uh just a wave of it versus the MP3 that we were provided.
• 1:24:30
SPEAKER_02: I think we lost the uh lostless version.
• 1:24:32
SPEAKER_02: When we talked to him, he said, here, let me remix it for you guys.
• 1:24:35
SPEAKER_02: So it's actually a much better mix than what was provided for DOD.
• 1:24:39
SPEAKER_02: He redid the whole uh mastering of it.
• 1:24:42
SPEAKER_02: Sounds great, but it's sounds great.
• 1:24:44
  SPEAKER_02: Stand-up guy.
• 1:24:46
  SPEAKER_03: It really is.
• 1:24:47
SPEAKER_03: The uh the last few years in particular, I think the like DOD to OCR pipeline has been very fruitful.
• 1:24:55
SPEAKER_03: Um and especially like, you know, DOD is done in a time crunch, so uh when they take a track and submit it to OCR, they get more of a chance to like really put the final spit and polish on it.
• 1:25:06
SPEAKER_03: Uh this is the first time I'm aware of a track going from DOD to an OCR album.
• 1:25:13
  SPEAKER_03: I'm sure it's happened before, I just can't think of a specific example.
• 1:25:16
SPEAKER_02: Well, I will say he had to have been planning it, planning it early on, because um you can you can see in the oldest track list, which is from 2009, um we have we have Prince of Darkness reserved for that track.
• 1:25:31
SPEAKER_02: So it wasn't just that he did it for DOD, it's just that so happens to be when he decided to do it.
• 1:25:36
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sure.
• 1:25:37
SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, I'm explaining birds to stones ratio on that track.
• 1:25:42
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that was a good I know there's also a history of uh some people uh before albums are released, they put their tracks on DoD.
• 1:25:53
SPEAKER_05: I don't think that you were supposed to do that, but uh Yeah, I was about to say.
• 1:25:58
SPEAKER_03: I've never I've never participated in DOD, but my understanding is that's not exactly in the spirit of the rules.
• 1:26:05
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, for DOD.
• 1:26:07
SPEAKER_02: That yeah, yeah, that's actually violating DOD, not only spirit of the album.
• 1:26:12
SPEAKER_03: I think uh this is my first time in my very brief journalism slash podcasting career that I've uncovered a scandal.
• 1:26:22
  SPEAKER_03: Whoa.
• 1:26:22
  SPEAKER_03: Scandalous.
• 1:26:24
SPEAKER_05: I think it's happened more than once though.
• 1:26:27
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I uh it wouldn't surprise me.
• 1:26:29
SPEAKER_02: No, I I don't think I don't think um I don't think Prince is uh Prince of Darkness, I don't think he did the music and then released it on DOD.
• 1:26:38
SPEAKER_02: I think he did it for DOD and then released it to the owl.
• 1:26:42
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's exactly what that's my memory as well.
• 1:26:45
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:26:45
SPEAKER_03: I mean Was there a Lufia month in Dwelling of Duels?
• 1:26:49
  SPEAKER_03: I'm curious now.
• 1:26:51
  SPEAKER_03: Who thinks so?
• 1:26:52
  SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
• 1:26:52
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna search for Lufia.
• 1:26:55
SPEAKER_03: See, oh yeah, all of the Lufia tracks are either in a free month or 20th anniversary month.
• 1:27:05
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, a tracks.
• 1:27:06
SPEAKER_03: Well um, so uh um on the topic of uh the album and individual tracks, are there any tracks you want to like uh shout out or say anything specific about?
• 1:27:17
  SPEAKER_02: Sure, I got a couple.
• 1:27:19
SPEAKER_02: Um Wes, do you have any you want to point out first?
• 1:27:21
SPEAKER_05: Well, uh the one that I had in mind was the one that sort of really inspired me to go for uh starting the album uh is uh newer.
• 1:28:24
SPEAKER_05: Um obviously uh a take on the earth.
• 1:28:29
SPEAKER_05: It was uh probably different than uh I was expecting it to come out, but you know, uh I thought uh they did a really good job with it.
• 1:28:37
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I I do like PM Crockett's uh take on it.
• 1:28:41
SPEAKER_02: Uh definitely shout out uh shout out to uh uh shout out to her, you know, great job on that.
• 1:28:46
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was a good one.
• 1:28:46
SPEAKER_03: I don't have anything specific to say, but I'm looking at the album now, and in in my music manager, I do have it listed as five stars, so can't get better than that.
• 1:28:57
  SPEAKER_05: Stronger than all.
• 1:28:59
SPEAKER_05: Or stronger than before, that's what it was.
• 1:29:01
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she did stronger than before as well.
• 1:29:03
SPEAKER_02: That one was actually really impressive, especially at the time.
• 1:29:06
SPEAKER_02: I believe it was 2017, is when that was floating around.
• 1:29:10
  SPEAKER_05: I guess midlife almost.
• 1:29:12
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:29:15
SPEAKER_03: When the album was having its midlife crisis.
• 1:29:18
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 1:29:18
SPEAKER_03: Uh also known as when I took over, right?
• 1:29:23
SPEAKER_05: But I also did like the uh all the slower ones, uh the uh unspoken, um the uh don't let me go, Libby the swamp.
• 1:29:34
SPEAKER_05: Like all of those were great.
• 1:29:37
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, to the future is actually really really swell uh um because um that one was done by that one was done by um actually Joe, which is Joe Z, you know, became kind of a more popular figure than OCR as you know time went on, but you know, he still shows us love every once in a while, and he showed a lot of love for that.
• 1:30:37
SPEAKER_00: Time set us by and left us behind the world that was worth saving guided by that red in the sky.
• 1:30:58
SPEAKER_00: Is this the end or is it a peaking?
• 1:31:49
  SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah!
• 1:31:50
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we uh we saw him at VGM gun.
• 1:31:52
  SPEAKER_02: Son of a gun.
• 1:31:53
SPEAKER_02: You know, he lives cl he lives closer by to me than I thought, but I haven't seen him.
• 1:31:58
  SPEAKER_02: Not in person anyway.
• 1:31:59
SPEAKER_05: He's extremely busy is uh is the gist I get.
• 1:32:02
SPEAKER_05: Like apparently his acting career has uh skyrocketed like his uh lessons.
• 1:32:10
SPEAKER_05: Lessons have got like he employs like around 15 people or something like that.
• 1:32:14
  SPEAKER_02: Whoa.
• 1:32:15
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, honestly, he he's done great for himself.
• 1:32:18
SPEAKER_02: The fact that he finds time for OCR still's impressive, I'm not gonna lie.
• 1:32:22
SPEAKER_03: I uh it is funny, there's a whole bunch of success stories that have come out of uh OCR, but most of them are like, you know, uh, for example, Daniel Baronowski started at OCR and then became this well-known game composer.
• 1:32:36
SPEAKER_02: Um There's an interesting fact about the um about the um song that a song that he did.
• 1:32:48
SPEAKER_02: You know um that he had Erica Harlacher on it, right?
• 1:32:52
SPEAKER_02: Let's pretend I know who that is.
• 1:32:54
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she she's also a voice actress.
• 1:32:56
SPEAKER_02: He kind of pulled people from his field to uh participate in the album.
• 1:33:00
  SPEAKER_03: Future editor Zach here.
• 1:33:02
SPEAKER_03: Listeners will probably know Erica Harlocker as the voice of Am Takamaki in Persona 5.
• 1:33:10
SPEAKER_03: So uh so uh I have to admit, scanning the you know, uh the artist list um when I first listened to this, and and right now because it's in front of my face, um, you know, it's it's a mix of like names that I still see regularly on OCR and also names that are like, oh, I haven't seen a track from them in a while.
• 1:33:30
SPEAKER_03: And Expert Novice is one of those ones that I was like, oh, that track's probably from like 2015 or something.
• 1:33:36
SPEAKER_02: That track is funny, it's it's an older track, but I I believe it was from like 20, yeah, like you said, about 2015, 2014-ish.
• 1:33:44
SPEAKER_02: But he redid the entire track um in 2019, and he's actually he kind of told me he might actually do a little bit of a postmastering of it again, because he really likes that track.
• 1:33:56
  SPEAKER_02: What a legend, what a hero.
• 1:33:58
SPEAKER_05: Do you remember who was the original vocalist that he was going to have for that track?
• 1:34:03
SPEAKER_05: It was someone else, wasn't it?
• 1:34:04
SPEAKER_02: It was yeah, the original vocalist.
• 1:34:06
SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, it w it was it was someone else.
• 1:34:09
SPEAKER_02: I won't I won't go and go into it on the podcast, probably for private sake.
• 1:34:12
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think I have I have a guess, so I don't think I wrench that up either.
• 1:34:17
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 1:34:18
  SPEAKER_02: So we'll we'll leave it there.
• 1:34:20
SPEAKER_02: But he he felt like he needed to uh have a change of voice actor, so he put out something fantastic.
• 1:34:25
SPEAKER_02: I love I love Will Rock's uh participation in that uh album because I had to have him sign the forms earlier this year, because I forgot he was a part of it, and he's like, What's this for?
• 1:34:35
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, for your participation and Lufia, I gotta get permission.
• 1:34:38
  SPEAKER_02: He's like, I did a Lufia track?
• 1:34:42
SPEAKER_02: He's like, I just asked me for a guitar, like, and I did it.
• 1:34:45
SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, oh, okay, well, yeah, you're in the album.
• 1:34:48
  SPEAKER_02: Good job.
• 1:34:50
  SPEAKER_02: Actually, yeah.
• 1:34:51
SPEAKER_02: Um we can't we kind of glazed that track enough now, so it actually is like one or two other tracks I like to point and point my finger at.
• 1:34:59
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, glaze away.
• 1:35:00
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:35:07
SPEAKER_02: One of the tracks that I thought was really cool was um actually uh flew to sleep.
• 1:35:12
SPEAKER_02: The um fugue, uh the flu fugue and uh tocada and uh Abadas did.
• 1:35:19
SPEAKER_02: Um, that one actually has kind of a funny history behind it because it's one of the oldest tracks on the album, genuinely.
• 1:36:19
SPEAKER_02: It's like he finished it in 2009.
• 1:36:21
  SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
• 1:36:22
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
• 1:36:23
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that track actually he put it up, he put it up for on the panel to get it judged, and it got rejected because they said the uh said the sample wasn't real.
• 1:36:33
SPEAKER_02: And you know, kind of got lost in time because uh we kind of kind of forgot it because we kind of um I didn't hold on to the track, and you know, when Bahamas or when Wes left, uh he kind of just got lost in the mix.
• 1:36:43
SPEAKER_02: He actually messaged me a little bit a little bit later, like 2017 or 2018.
• 1:36:48
SPEAKER_02: He's like, uh, you know, sorry that, you know, guess my track wasn't good enough or whatever.
• 1:36:52
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, no, no, I just never had it.
• 1:36:54
  SPEAKER_02: Send it to me.
• 1:36:55
SPEAKER_02: So, you know, he sent me the track, and the f the funny thing is, the only thing that was wrong with it is he just didn't have enough uh reverb on it.
• 1:37:02
SPEAKER_02: So it was an organ that sounded dry.
• 1:37:05
SPEAKER_02: The organ sample was actually really good.
• 1:37:07
SPEAKER_02: I was like, wait, the sample sounds amazing.
• 1:37:10
SPEAKER_02: It's just that it didn't sound like it was in a hall.
• 1:37:12
SPEAKER_02: You never hear an organ without that ring.
• 1:37:15
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 1:37:15
SPEAKER_02: I literally literally spent like two hours just adding a little bit of uh wetness to the uh track, and I I resent it back to the uh before, and they're like, oh yeah, that's great, the track's great, it has the flying colors.
• 1:37:26
SPEAKER_05: But you know, like you listen to the original uh source for that.
• 1:37:32
SPEAKER_05: Oh you wouldn't think someone would be able to uh posted remake.
• 1:37:39
  SPEAKER_02: No, you wouldn't it's like a five-second listen of it, it's not even a film song.
• 1:37:44
SPEAKER_05: He definitely put some effort into that one.
• 1:37:47
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that one was really good.
• 1:37:49
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the only other one I'll I'll talk about here is um Cyril actually did a track kinda late into the album, and the funny thing is, it is a repeat of Every's track.
• 1:38:02
  SPEAKER_02: It's the same source.
• 1:38:03
SPEAKER_02: And he kinda he kinda goes, I have a really good idea for you, but you know, I know I'm taking another thing.
• 1:38:08
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, ah, you know what, just take a stab at it and it's fine.
• 1:38:11
SPEAKER_02: He actually produced a really cool track, but he always got comments on the on the vocals of it.
• 1:38:17
SPEAKER_02: I don't know if he did this for this track specifically, but he kind of used this track as a test basis.
• 1:38:22
SPEAKER_02: He went out and got vocal lessons for his singing.
• 1:38:26
SPEAKER_02: So you can hear just how much he improved on his vocals because he's done two tracks.
• 1:38:31
SPEAKER_02: One of them is an old older track to the easier skies, and one of them is this is the opening track to disc too.
• 1:38:37
SPEAKER_02: It's his singing has gotten so much better.
• 1:38:54
SPEAKER_06: The world it costs to me.
• 1:38:58
SPEAKER_06: I told when it rains I know that my absence brings you everything.
• 1:39:18
SPEAKER_06: Well, we're part of all that.
• 1:39:24
SPEAKER_06: Well I'm gonna talk about Well do it for me.
• 1:39:45
SPEAKER_03: I uh I did incidentally, I like how you sort of bookended disc one and disc two with like you're going to end disc one with a source track and then start disc two with the same source track.
• 1:39:56
  SPEAKER_03: That was clever.
• 1:39:57
  SPEAKER_03: I liked it.
• 1:39:58
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it kind of worked out that way.
• 1:39:59
SPEAKER_02: Because I always knew I wanted every track to be some sort of way to close an album.
• 1:40:04
SPEAKER_02: You know, it's kind of a lower energy a lower energy track.
• 1:40:07
SPEAKER_02: And um Cyril's track opens up with a similar level of energy, but it really pumps up into something exciting.
• 1:40:14
SPEAKER_02: So it's just the perfect way to open the just album too to really keep you going.
• 1:40:18
SPEAKER_03: Oh, that worked out perfectly.
• 1:40:19
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it worked out perfect.
• 1:40:21
SPEAKER_02: So I'm really glad he I'm really glad he took a shot and I let him do it.
• 1:40:25
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I just wanted to point that one out too.
• 1:40:27
  SPEAKER_02: That one's a really good track.
• 1:40:28
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is.
• 1:40:29
  SPEAKER_02: Agreed.
• 1:40:30
SPEAKER_02: Ah, talk about others, but uh, well, let's see what else we have on the agenda.
• 1:40:34
SPEAKER_03: I mean that that was basically it.
• 1:40:36
SPEAKER_03: Um let's keep talking about music then.
• 1:40:39
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
• 1:40:40
  SPEAKER_03: I'm fine with that.
• 1:40:42
  SPEAKER_03: Oh boy.
• 1:40:45
SPEAKER_02: That story you were holding out on on the Oh yeah, the um the uh mountain album mountain track.
• 1:40:52
SPEAKER_02: We always have to share the mountain track.
• 1:40:54
SPEAKER_02: That was a great track both times.
• 1:40:56
SPEAKER_02: I'm glad with the music that we got.
• 1:40:58
SPEAKER_02: Um Boodo Queen did a fantastic job on her.
• 1:41:01
SPEAKER_03: I I also just love the uh the track title on that.
• 1:41:03
SPEAKER_03: That that one is uh uh I'm gonna do what's called the world's most difficult trick.
• 1:41:09
SPEAKER_03: Which is actually from the game.
• 1:41:11
  SPEAKER_03: Yep.
• 1:41:11
  SPEAKER_03: Yep, yep.
• 1:41:12
SPEAKER_02: Yep, and you know, that's her story on that one was funny because uh it was uh you hear a lot of resets in that.
• 1:41:19
SPEAKER_02: She exp she actually explained the joke.
• 1:41:21
SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm gonna spoil it here, so if you don't like spoilers, cover your ears.
• 1:41:25
SPEAKER_02: It's uh you're doing the world's most difficult trick, and that's just you resetting the trick.
• 1:41:30
SPEAKER_02: So that's what that whole song's about.
• 1:41:33
SPEAKER_02: It's just you messing up the track.
• 1:41:35
SPEAKER_02: Uh there was another there was another that uh there was another uh artist that actually did that track early on, but kind of lost he kind of lost the source file, so he wasn't ever able to finish it.
• 1:41:46
SPEAKER_02: But man, some of the some of the tracks that we received and weren't able to finish, some of them were really good, but Well that one was Dr.
• 1:41:53
  SPEAKER_05: Manhattan.
• 1:41:54
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was Dr.
• 1:41:55
  SPEAKER_02: Manhattan.
• 1:41:56
  SPEAKER_03: So Dr.
• 1:41:57
  SPEAKER_03: Manhattan does great work.
• 1:41:58
SPEAKER_03: I didn't sad we didn't get a finished version of that track.
• 1:42:02
  SPEAKER_03: Nah.
• 1:42:03
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:42:03
SPEAKER_02: But I'll just I'll just tell you, it was good.
• 1:42:06
  SPEAKER_02: I believe it.
• 1:42:08
SPEAKER_02: I but you know, unfinished will respect their wishes.
• 1:42:12
SPEAKER_02: Uh and leave it and leave it so.
• 1:42:14
SPEAKER_02: Blind was kind of excited about this album.
• 1:42:17
SPEAKER_02: Did you get that sense from him was when he started it?
• 1:42:20
SPEAKER_05: I mean, he took on some uh he took on several tracks, right?
• 1:42:24
SPEAKER_02: So Yeah, he did he did two of the tracks.
• 1:42:27
SPEAKER_02: I hate how it lined up that his tra his track just so happened to sound best before mine, so mine's how in comparison.
• 1:42:34
  SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh great.
• 1:42:35
SPEAKER_02: I gotta I gotta compare it to Blind.
• 1:42:37
  SPEAKER_02: Alright, whatever.
• 1:42:38
SPEAKER_02: You did it for yourself.
• 1:42:40
SPEAKER_02: I know the integrity of the album over, you know, my own pride.
• 1:42:44
SPEAKER_02: That's that that's my dedication to this stuff.
• 1:42:47
SPEAKER_05: Every other artist on the album, thank you for your service.
• 1:42:51
SPEAKER_02: Someone had to make the sacrifice.
• 1:42:53
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, no, he he was funny because um Labyrinth was done ages ago.
• 1:42:58
SPEAKER_02: So that one was done in like 2010, 2011, and it's been on virtually the same all the way through.
• 1:43:04
SPEAKER_02: Although apparently I had the wrong track the entire time.
• 1:43:07
SPEAKER_02: I talked to him about it like about two weeks before the album was released, and he goes, Oh no, I have I have the uh finished version here.
• 1:43:14
  SPEAKER_02: I'm like, what?
• 1:43:50
SPEAKER_02: I get weirded out every time I listen to it because I'm used to a different ending.
• 1:43:54
  SPEAKER_02: Oh wait, I forgot.
• 1:43:55
SPEAKER_02: This is this is completely different.
• 1:43:57
SPEAKER_02: There was like an added minute that he cut.
• 1:43:59
SPEAKER_05: So did it affect your uh song ordering?
• 1:44:03
SPEAKER_02: It didn't affect the song ordering at all.
• 1:44:05
SPEAKER_02: It's just it's just jarring for me because I've you get used to it one way over 10, 15 years, and suddenly it's different for the release.
• 1:44:12
  SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh, okay.
• 1:44:13
SPEAKER_02: This is how it's gonna be.
• 1:44:15
SPEAKER_05: You listen to all the songs a gazillion times to make sure.
• 1:44:20
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've listened to them a lot.
• 1:44:22
SPEAKER_02: Uh his other track was funny for a different reason.
• 1:44:27
SPEAKER_02: He started that one just as early as he started the labyrinth.
• 1:44:29
SPEAKER_02: That was the um Time of Judgment.
• 1:44:32
SPEAKER_02: And he he said he started it and just kind of lost interest in that lost interest and lost the ability to use the same instruments that he that he was uh using, like couldn't get them to work on his new program, so he gave up on it.
• 1:44:44
SPEAKER_02: And then suddenly in 2021 he sends a DM to me and he goes, Hey, I finished the other track.
• 1:44:49
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, great! I didn't even have you on the list, but great, you know.
• 1:44:54
  SPEAKER_02: Oh lord.
• 1:44:55
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because apparently he found another instrument that sounded really close to the one that he wrote the track around, and it worked with his program, so he should be able to uh salvage that effort.
• 1:45:04
  SPEAKER_02: Glad he did.
• 1:45:04
SPEAKER_02: It was always always uh fall track.
• 1:45:08
SPEAKER_03: I think there's a lot of stories that maybe you haven't even heard about protection anigans between when the album, you know, when they first submitted the track and the finished track.
• 1:45:19
SPEAKER_02: I can imagine I have stories about my track, for crying out loud.
• 1:45:25
SPEAKER_02: I'll talk about my track once, you know.
• 1:45:28
SPEAKER_02: That and the tower track is the one I started with.
• 1:45:31
SPEAKER_02: It started in reason three, because that was all I could uh that was all I could pirate at the time.
• 1:45:37
SPEAKER_02: Uh then when I actually bought the program, I had to move over a reason three track into reason 11.
• 1:45:45
SPEAKER_02: If you ask any re if you ask any reason user, uh they'll actually cry at the thought of doing that.
• 1:45:51
  SPEAKER_02: I almost did.
• 1:45:52
SPEAKER_02: It was a lot of work to make that translation.
• 1:45:54
SPEAKER_02: They changed they changed their entire structure of how they set up their uh mix board, so you know.
• 1:45:59
SPEAKER_02: You have to take every track one uh one uh wire at a time.
• 1:46:03
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that that was fun.
• 1:46:04
  SPEAKER_05: I guess they didn't expect a 3 to 11 migration.
• 1:46:07
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was 3 to 5 and 5 to 11, and anybody who knows anything about reason knows exactly why it was three to five.
• 1:46:14
SPEAKER_02: I won't spoil it for anyone here, but you know, reason heads, uh propeller heads, they'll get it.
• 1:46:19
SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, I got a actually I got a good question for Wes.
• 1:46:24
SPEAKER_02: Um, because I I've been on that album since pretty early, but I wasn't really like somebody who listened to a lot of the music early on.
• 1:46:31
SPEAKER_02: I'm looking at that old the old track list from June 9th, 2009, and what you have highlighted there, that album looks like it would have sounded way different.
• 1:46:40
SPEAKER_05: I mean you got I was a bit surprised when you uh I guess uh like you sent me the uh the tensive finished album and uh I took a bunch of listened to it and it It sounded quite different than uh I guess I was expecting.
• 1:46:56
SPEAKER_05: Um it it's not bad or anything like that.
• 1:46:59
SPEAKER_05: It's just more that uh like the the overall direction of things changed a lot more than when uh I was more familiar with things.
• 1:47:06
SPEAKER_05: So I was just a little surprised that that's that's the way things uh turned out.
• 1:47:11
SPEAKER_02: Uh battle or anything like that.
• 1:47:14
  SPEAKER_05: It's it's it's definitely different.
• 1:47:16
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it a lot of the a lot of the track that I'm looking at is like you got John Rivero, um you got Nico Frog claiming the earth.
• 1:47:23
SPEAKER_02: I understand why he's no longer claimed it.
• 1:47:26
SPEAKER_02: Morris claimed Battle 2, um Harding was from Diggy Dis, uh Mochrum for Doorda the Journey.
• 1:47:32
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, how many of the how many of these uh tracks did you have um have um submissions for that you can recall?
• 1:47:39
SPEAKER_05: I don't think a lot of those, like at least the ones that didn't end up, and I guess that explains why.
• 1:47:46
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there you go.
• 1:47:47
SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, Battle 3 from Zircon.
• 1:47:49
SPEAKER_02: Okay, I know what happened to that one.
• 1:47:51
  SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
• 1:47:52
SPEAKER_05: Well he released Didn't he release it on uh OC Remix, yeah.
• 1:47:57
SPEAKER_05: I I think there's a history on that song, and I wanna say I remember he had a Kickstarter, and I was definitely on like one of the top tiers of that or something like that.
• 1:48:08
  SPEAKER_05: And I think I requested a Lufia 2 song.
• 1:48:11
SPEAKER_02: Actually, yeah, let me let me open something up because I think there's I think there's actually a um another fun another funny uh thing about that song, uh, but it would be on the uh page itself.
• 1:48:22
  SPEAKER_02: Hello, Zircon.
• 1:48:24
SPEAKER_02: You have you have Lufia to give me one second.
• 1:48:29
SPEAKER_03: I love the idea of you joining this Kickstarter just to be like, Zircon, that track you owed me from years ago.
• 1:48:38
  SPEAKER_05: No, I wasn't gonna get a problem.
• 1:48:41
  SPEAKER_05: It wasn't like that.
• 1:48:42
SPEAKER_05: I think uh I did that, and then I think I wanna say I I could be remembering this completely wrong.
• 1:48:49
SPEAKER_05: I think he uh he like he offered it because he knew Luke album wasn't gonna work.
• 1:48:56
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's actually funny.
• 1:48:57
SPEAKER_02: If you look at the uh the release page of his uh track, his track was called Searing Aggression.
• 1:49:02
SPEAKER_02: He actually used used it as a way to advertise one of his products, Shreddage too.
• 1:49:07
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, sure, yeah.
• 1:49:09
SPEAKER_02: So, you know, that's uh killing three birds once done, great music uh advertised for his stuff, and you know, get your get the promise done for uh Wes over there.
• 1:49:17
  SPEAKER_05: Efficient use of time.
• 1:49:19
SPEAKER_02: He is an efficient man, we cannot fault him for that.
• 1:49:22
SPEAKER_02: Definitely had to double check on that one.
• 1:49:24
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 1:49:25
SPEAKER_02: No, I can I can imagine the final product was probably different.
• 1:49:28
SPEAKER_02: There was also, I hate to say that there was a lot of pruning from a lot of artists because some people just didn't respond when I told them, you know, these are deadlines that I'm serious about them.
• 1:49:37
SPEAKER_02: I had to drop probably five or six artists because it's like yeah, this is 2009, this is 2018, guys.
• 1:49:44
SPEAKER_02: You've had literally a decade to work on this.
• 1:49:46
  SPEAKER_02: I think we've been lenient enough.
• 1:49:48
SPEAKER_02: I think uh uh Moderbao was pretty upset with me when I cut her from the album, and I'm like, what do you want me to do?
• 1:49:53
SPEAKER_02: So uh there's there's a lot of that going on.
• 1:49:56
SPEAKER_02: You know, you have to be the bad guy sometimes.
• 1:49:58
SPEAKER_02: Otherwise, you know, uh welcome.
• 1:50:00
SPEAKER_02: To 2036 and the album's still not out.
• 1:50:02
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh this is something I've I've heard from other people I've interviewed that like, you know, you try your best to be like friendly and work with people, but at some point you do have to just put your foot down.
• 1:50:14
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sometimes.
• 1:50:15
SPEAKER_03: I think that's just dealing with people, you know?
• 1:50:18
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a it's a part of the process, which is which is okay.
• 1:50:21
SPEAKER_02: It's what we signed up for.
• 1:50:23
SPEAKER_03: Um well, uh I think we could start wrapping this up.
• 1:50:28
SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm uh gonna do that uh courteous podcast host thing and ask, do you guys have anything that you want to plug?
• 1:50:37
SPEAKER_02: Well, I have one obvious thing to plug.
• 1:50:40
SPEAKER_02: There's an album that just came out.
• 1:50:42
SPEAKER_02: Y'all should listen to it.
• 1:50:43
  SPEAKER_02: It's really good.
• 1:50:46
SPEAKER_03: It is really good, and you know, the people have already heard several tracks from it on this very podcast, so.
• 1:50:53
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, excellent.
• 1:50:54
SPEAKER_03: They should absolutely go download the full album.
• 1:50:57
  SPEAKER_03: Highly recommend it.
• 1:50:58
SPEAKER_03: Alright, well, oh sorry, go ahead.
• 1:51:00
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I don't think I have anything to plug on my end.
• 1:51:03
  SPEAKER_05: Uh maybe VGMCon.
• 1:51:05
SPEAKER_05: It's it was a pretty fun time early this year.
• 1:51:08
  SPEAKER_03: VGMCon was great.
• 1:51:10
SPEAKER_05: Uh not the one that's in like um Minneapolis or the Twin City around that area.
• 1:51:16
SPEAKER_02: Actually, I'd love to go to that one.
• 1:51:17
SPEAKER_02: I might go to it next year.
• 1:51:19
SPEAKER_02: I've had I've had to fly out to Minneapolis often enough, so it's not that bad of a flight.
• 1:51:24
  SPEAKER_03: Uh I made the I won't call it a mistake.
• 1:51:28
SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm glad I did it once, but I won't do it again.
• 1:51:31
SPEAKER_03: I went to VGMCon by train.
• 1:51:34
SPEAKER_03: Um, it was a 36-hour ride one way.
• 1:51:37
SPEAKER_03: Sounds like a good time.
• 1:51:38
SPEAKER_05: I made it to Duet.
• 1:51:40
SPEAKER_05: Did you take the train back?
• 1:51:42
  SPEAKER_03: I did.
• 1:51:45
SPEAKER_03: So honestly, VGMCon, uh wait, in terms of sheer number of hours, I was maybe on the train longer than I was at VGM Con.
• 1:51:58
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I recommend flying.
• 1:52:00
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I'm I'm 100% going next year, and I'm also 100% flying.
• 1:52:06
SPEAKER_02: Tickets for tickets in Los Angeles are actually really cheap for Minneapolis, so it's perfect.
• 1:52:11
  SPEAKER_02: I mean you're at a home.
• 1:52:12
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
• 1:52:13
SPEAKER_02: So it's like it's exactly the place you want to be, so I'm able to get there pretty easy, I think.
• 1:52:18
  SPEAKER_02: I hope.
• 1:52:18
  SPEAKER_03: You should absolutely come.
• 1:52:19
  SPEAKER_03: I think you'd love it.
• 1:52:20
SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm working on it.
• 1:52:22
SPEAKER_03: Well, thank you guys for uh talking with me about this Luffy 2 album.
• 1:52:27
SPEAKER_03: It was uh historic in a lot of ways, and I'm I'm really glad we did get the finished product.
• 1:52:32
SPEAKER_02: Oh, thank you for having us on.
• 1:52:35
  SPEAKER_03: All right.
• 1:52:36
