- 0:00Speaker 1: Scrubbing In with Beca Tilly and Tanya Red and iHeartRadio
- 0:04Speaker 1: and two times People's Choice Award winning podcast.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hello everybody, we are scrubbing in.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Uh oh, well, we have an exclusive.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We have an exclusive. It's a very exciting time because
- 0:26Speaker 1: Harry Styles is back. He's back in a big way.
- 0:31Speaker 2: And that's a big deal for everyone on planet Earth.
- 0:33Speaker 2: But what happens specifically for you, Tanya, Well.
- 0:37Speaker 1: No, I do want to touch on the it's big
- 0:39Speaker 1: on for everybody on planet Earth because I feel like,
- 0:42Speaker 1: as a whole, we have all been what's the word
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'm looking for in a drought?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Never a drought.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And Harry said, let me bring them water. Oh, it's
- 0:56Speaker 1: been raining outside and he said, let me bring the
- 0:58Speaker 1: sunshine thaking For a.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Good half of the United States, it's been freezing.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And Harry said, let there be son, Let there be warmth.
- 1:09Speaker 1: He knew it's like we needed him, and he knew
- 1:11Speaker 1: this was the time. And he's back. The song is out.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It is so good. Becca hasn't heard it yet because
- 1:20Speaker 1: we're recording this on Thursday, but.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Can you tell me about it?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yes, it is the thing about this song is like, Okay, well,
- 1:29Speaker 1: let me take you back. So on Tuesday of this week,
- 1:34Speaker 1: my boss Biatta pulled me into her office and Sisney
- 1:37Speaker 1: and basically said, Harry Styles is going to do one
- 1:40Speaker 1: interview for all of iHeart and he chose the two
- 1:44Speaker 1: of you, me and Sisney.
- 1:46Speaker 3: That's right.
- 1:47Speaker 1: So I had full body chills, Like I literally had
- 1:49Speaker 1: full body chills.
- 1:50Speaker 4: That's a really big deal.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. I was sweating.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I Heart Radio, which is hundreds of radio stations, yes,
- 1:57Speaker 4: a lot of pressure too, and York and All's huge.
- 2:01Speaker 4: iHeart Radio huge. What would you like, Harry, I'd like
- 2:04Speaker 4: Tanya ed, I'd Likexicity.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah. So that was overwhelming. And also, like, you know,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I've been very emotional the past couple of weeks and
- 2:13Speaker 1: like just really down on myself. So this was like
- 2:16Speaker 1: quite the high to receive, quite the you know, what
- 2:20Speaker 1: goes down must come back up. And I shot right
- 2:23Speaker 1: back up. I went full into like interview remode, and
- 2:27Speaker 1: I was like, let's go, like, let's do this. So
- 2:30Speaker 1: the song hadn't come out yet, and the label sent
- 2:33Speaker 1: over like the head of his record label came to
- 2:36Speaker 1: our loading dock the other day in like a sprinter
- 2:39Speaker 1: van to play us the single aperture in the sprinter
- 2:43Speaker 1: van with like the bass high and he just played
- 2:45Speaker 1: it over and over and over again. So we listened
- 2:47Speaker 1: to it like probably three or four times, and then
- 2:50Speaker 1: we got to like ask him questions about this song,
- 2:52Speaker 1: ask him questions about the rollout, and then we listened
- 2:55Speaker 1: to it a couple more times. So I was like
- 2:56Speaker 1: in this sprinter ban for like an hour on Wednesday.
- 3:01Speaker 3: And it's like a mission.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I like listening to new music and cars, so
- 3:07Speaker 1: I really appreciated the vibe of it. But like, the
- 3:11Speaker 1: thing is this song. When I heard it for the
- 3:13Speaker 1: first time, I was like, I can't even describe it
- 3:15Speaker 1: to somebody because he's pushing music forward, like he's not
- 3:19Speaker 1: doing something that's been done. It doesn't it doesn't sound like.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I can't even put it in a box because there's
- 3:25Speaker 1: no box it belongs. And that's how like different and
- 3:28Speaker 1: cool it is. And it really takes you on a journey,
- 3:32Speaker 1: like you're fully It feels like sunrise to sunset, like
- 3:35Speaker 1: you get a whole day of emotions. It's very upbeat,
- 3:40Speaker 1: and it's like disco. It's yeah, I guess you could
- 3:43Speaker 1: say like it's kind of disco people were saying it's
- 3:45Speaker 1: a little like what's like z electronic, a little electronic,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but I house a little house, but I don't think
- 3:53Speaker 1: it is. It's because it's it's it's it's so hairy,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know. I don't know how to explain it. But
- 4:01Speaker 1: it's so good. It's so good. And the fact that
- 4:03Speaker 1: this is like the lead single off the album and
- 4:05Speaker 1: like this album is going to be phenomenal.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Where would you rank it as other singles he's.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Put out in the past, good question.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I want to say, it's like my favorite. Wow, it's
- 4:19Speaker 1: so good, Like it really is so good. And you know, Aperture.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I didn't know what aperture was until he named this
- 4:25Speaker 1: song aperture. Yeah.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yeah, But.
- 4:29Speaker 1: It's all about letting Like it's the camera lens that
- 4:32Speaker 1: lets the light in and so it's all about the
- 4:34Speaker 1: theme is like letting light into your life. And like
- 4:37Speaker 1: with the disco ball that it gives off all the light.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It's like the theme is light on this album, and
- 4:42Speaker 1: I think that's like so beautiful and I feel like
- 4:43Speaker 1: Harry's so poetic and like this is him coming to
- 4:47Speaker 1: us with like something very profound, like let the light
- 4:50Speaker 1: into your life, Let more light into your life.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's what he's doing for us.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And that's what he's doing for us. So anyways, okay,
- 4:58Speaker 1: so we listened to the song, we ask all the
- 5:00Speaker 1: questions and everything's like, you know, they don't want anything
- 5:04Speaker 1: to leak, so everything was like very very protected. And
- 5:09Speaker 1: then we ended up getting the lyrics later that night,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and I saw this like specific lyric that I was like,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I have to ask him about because it just like
- 5:16Speaker 1: struck me. I want to know what safe is? Oh
- 5:21Speaker 1: uh huh. Don't we all just want to feel safe?
- 5:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we want to know what that is, who that
- 5:28Speaker 3: is exactly.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's like safety in your job, safety in your relationships,
- 5:33Speaker 1: safety and your friendships. Like safety is such like a
- 5:35Speaker 1: universal thing. And so anyways, I also had like a
- 5:39Speaker 1: big debate on what I wanted to wear, even though
- 5:41Speaker 1: the interview was on Zoom. I was like, what do
- 5:43Speaker 1: I wear? I always wear hairy Merch every time we
- 5:46Speaker 1: talked to him, so I felt like I needed to
- 5:47Speaker 1: wear hairy Merch. Uh huh, So I did. I'm wearing
- 5:50Speaker 1: a sweatshirt that says treat people with kindness.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Really a message we desperately need right now.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a throwback to the twenty nineteen album, but you.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Know, timeless message.
- 6:04Speaker 1: He noticed and appreciated, He noticed and appreciated, Yes he did.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Wow, did he notice your blowout? Your hair?
- 6:11Speaker 1: You know he did not.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I'm sure he thought it, but he couldn't say anything
- 6:15Speaker 3: about it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure he was thinking like, wow, Tony's hair
- 6:18Speaker 2: looks amazing.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, when you're feeling low, you gotta do
- 6:23Speaker 1: give yourself a little extra high in any way that
- 6:25Speaker 1: you can.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I would have had my makeup professionally done and my
- 6:30Speaker 2: hair done, styled and everything.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Yeah, no judgment, only respect.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Thank you, Thank you. It was an early wake up call,
- 6:38Speaker 1: but it was necessary.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, you did what you had to do.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I did what I had to do.
- 6:44Speaker 2: So did he allude to like what the album?
- 6:49Speaker 3: I mean?
- 6:49Speaker 2: I know it's about letting the light in? But is
- 6:51Speaker 2: it romantic? Is it fun?
- 6:53Speaker 3: Is it?
- 6:55Speaker 1: What is the way he's like describing it is basically
- 6:58Speaker 1: like it's something that he's experienced and like these joys
- 7:02Speaker 1: that he's experienced in his life and that he wants
- 7:05Speaker 1: us as his fans to experience and kind of like
- 7:08Speaker 1: hold our hands through like through it. Mark was there
- 7:10Speaker 1: Markred the whole thing.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Yeah, And if anyone would like to hear it, they
- 7:13Speaker 4: can check out the entire interview with the on air
- 7:15Speaker 4: with Ryan podcast feeding wherever you listen to podcasts.
- 7:18Speaker 1: But that's kind of how we described it. It was
- 7:20Speaker 1: basically like, these are all the things that he's found
- 7:23Speaker 1: joy in in his life, and like he wants to
- 7:25Speaker 1: like kind of hold our hands as like as we're
- 7:27Speaker 1: experiencing that in our lives too.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Wow, he wants us all to collectively have the experience of.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Joy exactly the joy that he has found. Wow, but
- 7:38Speaker 1: it is crez. What was his hair like when he
- 7:42Speaker 1: looked so cute? He was wearing like a sweater with
- 7:46Speaker 1: a like a like a collared shirt underneath. His hair
- 7:50Speaker 1: was short. He looked very like put together but still
- 7:55Speaker 1: like very hot, Harry Harry, And he was just so sweet,
- 8:01Speaker 1: like you know, like he's very playful. He he appreciates,
- 8:07Speaker 1: he appreciates his fans so much, like you can tell
- 8:10Speaker 1: he genuinely Like because I was geeking out, I was
- 8:12Speaker 1: like making all the faces like I was like, and
- 8:15Speaker 1: he was like doing it back to me, Like he
- 8:17Speaker 1: was just so engaged and like I just I'll never forget.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I feel like he's one of those artists that is
- 8:23Speaker 1: just so kind, Like he's always been so kind and
- 8:26Speaker 1: generous to me, even when I did that interview years ago.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Before we did the interview, he like brought me backstage,
- 8:31Speaker 1: introduced me to like everybody that was in the band,
- 8:34Speaker 1: like wanted me to feel comfortable and a part of
- 8:37Speaker 1: and like he doesn't have to do that.
- 8:40Speaker 2: So which show are we going today or New York?
- 8:46Speaker 1: Is really I feel like the two that we have
- 8:48Speaker 1: to choose for now? For now?
- 8:52Speaker 3: Yeah, for now?
- 8:54Speaker 1: Did you get some sort of bat signal? Did you
- 8:56Speaker 1: feel like this was the moment?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Like when did that sink in?
- 8:59Speaker 5: I think the last like two years in particular of
- 9:03Speaker 5: my life has been a lot about being on the
- 9:05Speaker 5: other side of the audience experience, Like how special it
- 9:09Speaker 5: is to be experiencing live music with strangers, Like I'm
- 9:13Speaker 5: ready to play this in a room and play it
- 9:15Speaker 5: loud and dance with people. That kind of was the
- 9:19Speaker 5: capitalist to say, like, Okay, I'm ready to start thinking
- 9:22Speaker 5: about putting this out into the world.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I was going to ask how Robbie responded to you
- 9:44Speaker 2: being selected as the interviewer for Harry You know.
- 9:48Speaker 1: What's personally funny. I can't remember.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Oh.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I was telling him that I was getting my hair
- 9:53Speaker 1: blown out or something and he was like, oh, yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you are. And I was like, does to make are
- 9:59Speaker 1: you jealous? He's like no, like not at all. I'm
- 10:01Speaker 1: so happy. I'm so proud of you. And I was
- 10:03Speaker 1: like m.
- 10:06Speaker 3: And he means it.
- 10:07Speaker 1: He does. He doesn't get jealous at.
- 10:08Speaker 6: All, like Harry style upset to you, like Harry picked me, Yeah, babe,
- 10:17Speaker 6: Harry picked me out of everyone.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah. No, he wasn't rattled at all.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Strong soldier.
- 10:24Speaker 1: No, that's what you call securely attached.
- 10:27Speaker 3: He found safe, he found he found what's safe.
- 10:30Speaker 1: He couldn't be couldn't have found a safer to be honest, And.
- 10:35Speaker 3: That's where that's what we hope for for everyone that
- 10:38Speaker 3: we love.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 10:40Speaker 3: It is pretty epic, Tanya.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Like you, your life is so crazy and like the
- 10:45Speaker 2: people you get to talk to and me, and you
- 10:48Speaker 2: always think, oh, how cool I have this once in
- 10:50Speaker 2: a lifetime experience and then Harry years later is like
- 10:54Speaker 2: coming right back, coming right back, Becca.
- 10:57Speaker 1: It's not lost on me and actually I I I
- 11:00Speaker 1: actually cried when Biatta told us that it was actually
- 11:03Speaker 1: happening because you needed that. I needed it. I really
- 11:08Speaker 1: needed it, And like it's like he knew I needed it,
- 11:12Speaker 1: which is so wild.
- 11:16Speaker 3: He's aware, he feels things, you know.
- 11:19Speaker 1: What I appreciate though, is like a lot of these shows,
- 11:22Speaker 1: like a lot of these late night shows. Like I
- 11:23Speaker 1: remember when Taylor Swift was doing the rollout in promo
- 11:26Speaker 1: for Life of a Showgirl, and like every interview she
- 11:29Speaker 1: did was like a man's show, Like it was like
- 11:31Speaker 1: a male show, you know, And I was like, I
- 11:33Speaker 1: wish you would do like some female you know, like
- 11:36Speaker 1: something I'd like call her Daddy or Drew barrymore, like
- 11:39Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like just give it to
- 11:42Speaker 1: the gals. Yeah, that's what Harry did.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I know.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I think that I do think that's just a testament
- 11:51Speaker 2: to him because that was a very thoughtful decision.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of people out there, so.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Many that are in this industry, and I also think
- 12:02Speaker 2: it's a testament to how you are as an interviewer
- 12:05Speaker 2: and how you make people feel that He not only
- 12:08Speaker 2: remembered that he liked being interviewed by you, but was
- 12:12Speaker 2: like I want I want her and siciny to do it.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Again, thank you, as you were a prepared business professional.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Well, you know what I realized is like I just
- 12:23Speaker 1: like to go so into the lyrics and like I
- 12:26Speaker 1: like to like really get in there, but I want
- 12:30Speaker 1: to be respectful because I was also doing the interview
- 12:31Speaker 1: with somebody else, so I didn't want to like get
- 12:34Speaker 1: two in there. Yeah, you know, so I was trying
- 12:38Speaker 1: to like be respectful. Was I respectful?
- 12:41Speaker 2: Now?
- 12:41Speaker 4: I thought you were very respectful to each other, both
- 12:43Speaker 4: of you were. I thought that was nice. How you
- 12:45Speaker 4: too kind of shared it and handed it off back
- 12:47Speaker 4: and forth and behind the scenes before Harry came on,
- 12:50Speaker 4: you guys choreographed it, like okay, I'll ask this, you
- 12:52Speaker 4: ask this into this.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Yeah that was really great.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Wow, a choreographed dance, A flow, a flow if you will, right,
- 13:03Speaker 2: It's really really cool.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And we hade like backup questions in case he was
- 13:08Speaker 1: not as chatty, but I knew he was gonna be chatty.
- 13:10Speaker 1: So it's like, I don't think we need the backup questions.
- 13:12Speaker 3: But do we have a track list yet?
- 13:17Speaker 1: So we don't now we don't, But this is gonna work.
- 13:20Speaker 1: This is gonna come out on Friday, and I believe
- 13:23Speaker 1: that we will.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Mmmmmm, well, I'm hoping we do, and then on Monday's podcast,
- 13:31Speaker 2: we can guess which song we think is gonna be
- 13:33Speaker 2: our favorite, because I love that game and I don't
- 13:35Speaker 2: know if I'm ever spot on with my choices, but
- 13:38Speaker 2: it's always fun to play.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I agree. I Actually I feel like I do a
- 13:42Speaker 1: pretty good job.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I feel like we're always maybe there's one that we
- 13:46Speaker 2: all like, really like, there's one that we choose that
- 13:49Speaker 2: we love, But then I think the other two that
- 13:51Speaker 2: we normally choose, we're like.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Oh, miss Judge, whoopsies, whoopsies.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I'm so proud of you, and I can't wait to
- 14:00Speaker 2: go to a concert, go backstage with you.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I'm kidding. I know you'll take I'll know you. I
- 14:09Speaker 3: know you'll take.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Robbie so that Robbie can charm him and be like
- 14:13Speaker 2: bros with him.
- 14:15Speaker 1: No, I don't think when we went to the Love
- 14:17Speaker 1: On tour and we didn't go backstage.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Well, it's a new year, a new day, a new album,
- 14:24Speaker 3: a new tour.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you never know. If not me, who.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Did he feel like he was in love?
- 14:32Speaker 1: Oh?
- 14:35Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I mean, he seems just so happy, he kept saying,
- 14:38Speaker 1: how happy he was.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And that doesn't mean he has a romantic partner, It
- 14:44Speaker 2: just means he loves life, which is his energy.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Yeah, honestly, he seemed really happy and like excited to
- 14:50Speaker 1: be back and like grateful.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Well, we are excited to have him back, and I'm
- 14:56Speaker 2: excited that you got to talk to him and be
- 15:00Speaker 2: an exclusive.
- 15:00Speaker 3: For iHeart let that be heard all around.
- 15:03Speaker 2: iHeart the joy and honor that you have having Tanya,
- 15:08Speaker 2: Rad and Sisney on your team.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Wow, Becca, thank you just letting the masses. No, thank
- 15:14Speaker 1: you for doing this last minute. I don't know what
- 15:19Speaker 1: you call surprise podcast.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Sure, sure, yeah, my pleasure.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Really, there's been a lot of moving parts. It's been
- 15:26Speaker 1: a very busy forty eight hours.
- 15:31Speaker 2: When there's a scrubbing and exclusive needed, I can hop on. Well, okay,
- 15:39Speaker 2: I'm so proud of you and pay all the scrubbers.
- 15:42Speaker 2: We love you, We're so proud of Tanya, and we'll
- 15:47Speaker 2: be back on Monday for more.
- 15:48Speaker 3: So don't wait, don't don't be too sad.
- 15:51Speaker 1: We love you, We love you. Bye bye.
