- 0:12Speaker 1: This is Heartwise, offering practical tips and time proven guidelines
- 0:16Speaker 1: to make your life healthier, happier, and more fulfilling. Today
- 0:20Speaker 1: you'll learn simple, Bible based principles for building and maintaining
- 0:24Speaker 1: optimum mental and physical health, all while deepening your relationship
- 0:28Speaker 1: with your creator. Here's your Heartwives host, doctor James Markham.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Welcome everyone. It's so nice to be joining you today.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And we have a very interesting topic that has come
- 0:42Speaker 2: into our website. And the way we get topics for
- 0:45Speaker 2: our programming is we look as you, the listener, go
- 0:48Speaker 2: to our website that's Heartwiseministries dot org as you ask
- 0:52Speaker 2: several questions. I just know this is a burning topic
- 0:56Speaker 2: that we need to talk about. And if you have
- 0:58Speaker 2: that question, probably more people have it. And Charles, we've
- 1:02Speaker 2: collected all these from our website and what's going to
- 1:04Speaker 2: be our topic for today.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Thank you, doctor Markov. I'm so glad to be here too.
- 1:08Speaker 1: This is an important topic. There is a word bantered
- 1:12Speaker 1: about these days that some of our listeners may not
- 1:14Speaker 1: fully understand, and for good reason. This word represents an
- 1:18Speaker 1: element in nutrition that you can't see, you can't taste,
- 1:23Speaker 1: you can't even isolate. It to create a new product,
- 1:26Speaker 1: so you don't see it being marketed in pill form.
- 1:29Speaker 1: It's secretive and mysterious. Yet, as we're about to learn,
- 1:33Speaker 1: one of the most powerful medicines on earth. That element
- 1:38Speaker 1: is antioxidants. So what's the big deal, doctor Markat? Why
- 1:41Speaker 1: are people talking about it with such passion these days?
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a very good question, Charles. And first of all,
- 1:49Speaker 2: we're going to have some questions in a minute. But
- 1:51Speaker 2: to give an overview of antioxidants, and this might even
- 1:54Speaker 2: answer some of our questions, is in our body. Our
- 1:57Speaker 2: bodies a big chemistry set, you know. And a couple
- 2:02Speaker 2: of things I want to leave people off the top
- 2:04Speaker 2: is oxidation is bad, Okay, antioxidants are good, So we
- 2:09Speaker 2: want to do things that reduce oxidation and promote antioxidation. Well, anyway,
- 2:16Speaker 2: the process of oxidation, this is sort of a chemical
- 2:20Speaker 2: reaction that creates a chemical called free radicals, okay. And
- 2:24Speaker 2: these free radicals float around our body and do bad things,
- 2:29Speaker 2: specifically that they affect some of these cells in our
- 2:33Speaker 2: body called macrifages. And these macrofages are linked to athroskerotic
- 2:38Speaker 2: process and actually this oxidation process damages the lining of
- 2:44Speaker 2: our arteries can can trigger a lot of people think
- 2:48Speaker 2: that can trigger heart attacks, has a lot of bad
- 2:51Speaker 2: things that happen. So what we want to do to
- 2:54Speaker 2: protect our cardiovascular health and health in general is to
- 2:58Speaker 2: do things that cause oxidation not to occur. And if
- 3:03Speaker 2: we have oxidation going on, try to reverse that as
- 3:05Speaker 2: much as we can with a process called antioxidation. So
- 3:10Speaker 2: that's what we want to talk about today, and a
- 3:13Speaker 2: lot of people are realizing. You know, if you think
- 3:16Speaker 2: back in medicine, you know two or three hundred years ago,
- 3:19Speaker 2: if you didn't put leeches on a patient, you were
- 3:22Speaker 2: considered a bad patient Charleston, and as early as the thirties,
- 3:26Speaker 2: if you didn't prescribe cigarettes for people with asthma, you
- 3:30Speaker 2: are considered a bad doctor. Well, nowadays, if we don't
- 3:34Speaker 2: give pills for everything, we're considered a bad doctors. But
- 3:37Speaker 2: I think as history looks back on this time period,
- 3:40Speaker 2: we're going to understand that if we can get at
- 3:42Speaker 2: the cause of disease, those physicians and those healers that
- 3:45Speaker 2: get at the cause of disease, whether that be from
- 3:48Speaker 2: the thoughts in the mind, the food we eat, or genetics,
- 3:51Speaker 2: they're going to look back history is and say, these
- 3:53Speaker 2: people knew what they were talking about. And I think
- 3:55Speaker 2: this process of oxidation, which actually is the chemical reactions
- 4:00Speaker 2: that cause disease, might be a place that we really
- 4:02Speaker 2: look at, so we don't need to use a bunch
- 4:05Speaker 2: of medicines that treat symptoms. So with that back drop,
- 4:09Speaker 2: we want to answer some people's questions. And I'm sure
- 4:11Speaker 2: everyone's going to learn a lot today about antioxidants, when
- 4:14Speaker 2: to use them, and what are things that oxley cause
- 4:17Speaker 2: the bad stuff which is oxidation.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Okay, so this makes sense. You're saying that oxidation is bad,
- 4:23Speaker 1: antioxidants is good. Right, So we will want certainly to
- 4:28Speaker 1: put into our body something that stops or prohibits oxidation.
- 4:31Speaker 1: That would be an antioxidation material. What are some of
- 4:35Speaker 1: the foods that we should be eating, and more importantly,
- 4:38Speaker 1: what are some of the foods that we are eating
- 4:39Speaker 1: now that that do not have antioxidants and that promote oxidation.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Right, Well, let's let's start there first, Charles. Let's talk
- 4:48Speaker 2: about the foods that create these free radicals and these
- 4:51Speaker 2: electron shifts that damages the inside of our blood vessels
- 4:55Speaker 2: that might trigger heart attacks and all that stuff. Right,
- 4:59Speaker 2: you know, and one of the you know, I didn't
- 5:01Speaker 2: mention it, but you know everyone's heard about this LDL particle. Okay, Well,
- 5:05Speaker 2: this oxidation property actually happens to these this lowgencied lipoprotein.
- 5:12Speaker 2: They become oxidized, these radicals go on it and it
- 5:15Speaker 2: makes them unstable. So let's talk about some of the foods. Well,
- 5:20Speaker 2: one of the best foods that is an antioxidant out
- 5:23Speaker 2: there is blueberries. Okay, blueberries are excellent antioxidants. Other fruits
- 5:30Speaker 2: that are very good that we want to eat or
- 5:32Speaker 2: we include things like strawberries. Everyone likes a big healthy strawberries.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Strawberries are excellent as an antioxidant. Other fruits, you know, berries,
- 5:42Speaker 2: apples have antioxidant capabilities. Almost all of the berries. Grapes
- 5:48Speaker 2: are an excellent source of antioxidants, and also raisins are
- 5:52Speaker 2: a good source of antioxidants. So these are foods. Almost
- 5:57Speaker 2: all of the fruits and berries are great antioxidansts. Now,
- 6:00Speaker 2: if you don't like that, some other foods that are
- 6:02Speaker 2: high in antioxidants, and this is a process that fights
- 6:05Speaker 2: these free radicals that damage our blood vessels, are things
- 6:08Speaker 2: like spinach, sweet potatoes. Soybeans are an excellent form of antioxidants.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And also a lot of people, some people have a
- 6:18Speaker 2: sweet tooth and dark chocolate, now not the light chocolate,
- 6:22Speaker 2: but dark chocolate are another antioxidants. So what I want
- 6:27Speaker 2: people to think of is that that food cannot only
- 6:30Speaker 2: damage a body, okay, but it can help the body,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and the antioxidants help the body stay healthy away from
- 6:37Speaker 2: these free radicals. Now, what about the foods that damage
- 6:40Speaker 2: that are to cause oxidation that hurts us. Well, it's
- 6:43Speaker 2: more than foods, but let's talk about that. Well, any
- 6:46Speaker 2: food that's high in refined carbohydrates and fat causes oxidative
- 6:53Speaker 2: stress on the body. It creates these free radicals that
- 6:56Speaker 2: can damage our vessels. Well what are those Well, anything
- 7:00Speaker 2: fat in it meets in our diet, Lots of dairy
- 7:04Speaker 2: in our diet, if refined carbohydrates, if you think of
- 7:07Speaker 2: anything with high fruit, toose, corn syrup on the label,
- 7:10Speaker 2: anything on in packages, those type of things, certain types
- 7:15Speaker 2: of freezer foods, it's processed. So any of those foods
- 7:18Speaker 2: can cause oxidative stress. And unfortunately, if you look at
- 7:22Speaker 2: the average diet out there, now, oh boy, most of
- 7:25Speaker 2: us are eating more of that high fat, high refined
- 7:28Speaker 2: than we are these oxidants. So that's why we have
- 7:31Speaker 2: so much evidence of cardiovascular disease. And just you know,
- 7:35Speaker 2: right now, cardiovascular disease in the United States claims about
- 7:39Speaker 2: six hundred thousand lives a year. That's that's a big town, Charles.
- 7:45Speaker 2: And yet we hear a lot about you know, fighting
- 7:47Speaker 2: wars and people that die in different things, and that's important,
- 7:50Speaker 2: but six hundred from cardiovascual disease. We need to talk
- 7:53Speaker 2: about some of the causes. Well, this oxidative stress by
- 7:56Speaker 2: eating the bad foods is a trigger for bad things
- 7:58Speaker 2: to happen. But not only that, there's other things that
- 8:01Speaker 2: cause oxidative stress in our lives. Did you know that
- 8:04Speaker 2: smoking can cause oxidation? A lot of people don't realizing,
- 8:08Speaker 2: but things like pollution can cause oxidation, you know. So
- 8:14Speaker 2: those are other things. And I'm wondering whether a stressful
- 8:17Speaker 2: you know, we haven't proven this yet, but stressful thoughts
- 8:19Speaker 2: and stressful you know, running out of all these things
- 8:23Speaker 2: probably can create these free radicals that we want to
- 8:26Speaker 2: prove it. So, so so let's get back to our
- 8:29Speaker 2: question there. So those are foods that are rich in antioxidants.
- 8:32Speaker 2: So we answer that question, all.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Right, absolutely, this is this is this is eye opening
- 8:37Speaker 1: because we wonder why we have so much heart disease
- 8:41Speaker 1: number one killer, number one killer, and why we have
- 8:44Speaker 1: so much cancer. And of course you're cardiologist, you're coming
- 8:47Speaker 1: at this from the from the heart angle. Uh, you
- 8:50Speaker 1: also know that there is cancer involved here, that there
- 8:53Speaker 1: are ethyl sclererolsas there are all kinds of things happening
- 8:56Speaker 1: here that the antioxidants fight. So when we talk about
- 8:59Speaker 1: the power and the life saving power of antioxidants, we're
- 9:04Speaker 1: talking across a broad spectrum of diseases that are affecting
- 9:08Speaker 1: us and that are killing us and they're taking us out.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So you're saying we need to watch what we eat,
- 9:13Speaker 1: also watch what we don't eat. And you've made it
- 9:16Speaker 1: very clear that the refined foods, the refining of foods,
- 9:20Speaker 1: the pollution out there, the animal products, these things can
- 9:22Speaker 1: cause oxidation. And the foods that God may available to
- 9:26Speaker 1: us and eating the fruits and the vegetables whatnot, are
- 9:30Speaker 1: causing this oxidation to slow down and in some cases stop.
- 9:35Speaker 1: How important that is to us?
- 9:36Speaker 2: All right?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Are there other types of activities that can cause oxidation?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Now you mentioned some of the stresses on our system
- 9:44Speaker 1: some of our thoughts. I would not be surprised at
- 9:46Speaker 1: all to learn, doctor Markham, that our thoughts can slow
- 9:50Speaker 1: down the antioxidant capabilities of our bodies.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Well, that's interesting. You know what's so fascinating. Over the
- 9:57Speaker 2: last ten or fifteen years, science has gone so much
- 10:00Speaker 2: more capable of proving these things that everyone suspected for
- 10:05Speaker 2: a long period of time. You know everyone, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 2: twenty years ago we didn't talk about this oxidation. And
- 10:12Speaker 2: it looks like we're going to a break right now, Charles,
- 10:14Speaker 2: but I'm going to continue this thought after break. We
- 10:17Speaker 2: want everyone to stay with us and thank you for
- 10:19Speaker 2: joining us today on Heartwise, and we are going to
- 10:22Speaker 2: be back after this short break talking about oxidation in antioxidant.
- 10:27Speaker 2: We'll be right back.
- 10:43Speaker 1: In his book The Ultimate Prescription, now available from Tendale
- 10:47Speaker 1: House Publishers, Cardiologists, doctor James Markham writes, the very first
- 10:52Speaker 1: deception we face in this world today is the thought
- 10:54Speaker 1: that modern medicine can fix anything. To be brutally honest,
- 10:58Speaker 1: modern medicine can't fix a thing. The doctor can set
- 11:01Speaker 1: a leg, but as for the healing of that broken bone,
- 11:04Speaker 1: the doctor can only watch and be amazed. Here's the
- 11:07Speaker 1: scary part. People who experience heart disease, who suffer from cancer,
- 11:11Speaker 1: who fight debilitating pains, who stand in lines at drug
- 11:14Speaker 1: stores waiting to fill their endless prescriptions, who sit and
- 11:17Speaker 1: watch television commercials extolling the power of the latest and
- 11:20Speaker 1: greatest pharmaceutical firmly believe that their doctors or the pills
- 11:24Speaker 1: are providing a cure to their ills. They think they're
- 11:27Speaker 1: getting fixed. They're wrong. Doctor Markham's book, The Ultimate Prescription
- 11:32Speaker 1: is available from Amazon dot com and wherever quality books
- 11:35Speaker 1: are sold. To learn more about health from a Biblical perspective,

- 11:44Speaker 1: to invite you to visit the Heartwise Ministries team on
- 11:46Speaker 1: the internet. Stop by Heartwisemistries dot org and discover for
- 11:50Speaker 1: yourself that optimum health is not the result of favorable genes,
- 11:54Speaker 1: of the right commendation of pharmaceuticals. No, optimum health is
- 11:58Speaker 1: the result of making the right shows each and every
- 12:01Speaker 1: moment of each and every day. If you're like me,
- 12:04Speaker 1: you're probably a little confused about what the media and
- 12:06Speaker 1: marketing moguls are feeding us. There are a lot of potions,
- 12:09Speaker 1: pills and promises out there. Some work, some don't, and
- 12:13Speaker 1: some are downright dangerous. Whom do you believe? Whom do
- 12:16Speaker 1: you trust? Board certified cardiologist doctor James Markham, a founder
- 12:20Speaker 1: director of Heartwise Ministries, says, there is a source of
- 12:23Speaker 1: information that can be trusted and followed. That's the Bible,
- 12:27Speaker 1: God's Owner's Manual as he calls it, for us. All
- 12:31Speaker 1: the information you find on Heartwiseministries dot org is information
- 12:34Speaker 1: backed by biblical truth. It can be trusted because God
- 12:38Speaker 1: can be trusted. So stop by, won't you? That's Heartwiseministries
- 12:42Speaker 1: dot org.
- 12:56Speaker 2: We've been talking today about antioxidants and during the break,
- 13:00Speaker 2: Charles Mills and I were talking about years ago we
- 13:02Speaker 2: didn't have this and Charles had heart disease hit him
- 13:06Speaker 2: home recently. Charles, could you share that with us?
- 13:08Speaker 1: I certainly can. Someone I love very dearly in my
- 13:12Speaker 1: family was just right before the fourth of July, was
- 13:15Speaker 1: standing there at a celebration about to happen, and he
- 13:18Speaker 1: was drinking a glass of water and he had just
- 13:20Speaker 1: walked the greenway over there to the four Corners area
- 13:23Speaker 1: in Collegedale and he just dropped dead. He just they
- 13:26Speaker 1: said he was dead before hit the ground, and it
- 13:28Speaker 1: was heart attack exacerbated by high blood pressure. And it
- 13:33Speaker 1: just breaks my heart to know that that condition is
- 13:37Speaker 1: out there and that so many people die right away
- 13:40Speaker 1: when they have this first symptom is death. And doctor Markham,
- 13:45Speaker 1: so what we're talking about today, if we can do
- 13:48Speaker 1: anything to help people with a heart attack problem or
- 13:50Speaker 1: a heart problem, I want to talk about it and
- 13:52Speaker 1: I want people to hear what you have to say
- 13:54Speaker 1: on the subject.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's scary when the first manifestation of a
- 13:59Speaker 2: disease is a sudden death, oh man. And a lot
- 14:02Speaker 2: of people don't come and understand when they come into
- 14:05Speaker 2: the office that just because they're not having a symptom
- 14:08Speaker 2: doesn't mean they can't fall over from a heart attack tomorrow.
- 14:12Speaker 2: The stress test does not predict heart attack. In fact,
- 14:15Speaker 2: half of all presentations of heart disease comes as that
- 14:18Speaker 2: heart attack, and approximately one in three people that have
- 14:21Speaker 2: a heart attack die suddenly, just like you talked about.
- 14:25Speaker 2: So that's why it's important to talk about any science
- 14:28Speaker 2: that we've learned about. And now we're talking about some
- 14:30Speaker 2: of the causes of oxidation which can trigger this process.
- 14:34Speaker 2: That's why we want to talk about antioxidants and things
- 14:37Speaker 2: that both prevent it and as well as cause it.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And I think this is a very good thing. On
- 14:43Speaker 2: just a review we talked about we want people to
- 14:45Speaker 2: eat high and antioxidants, raspberry soybeans, eat the healthy stuff,
- 14:49Speaker 2: stay away from the high fats, the carbohydrates, and a
- 14:53Speaker 2: lot of these other things. And it just makes me wonder,
- 14:55Speaker 2: Charles's whether this oxidation process might just be part of
- 15:00Speaker 2: this all the stress that we've been talking about. You know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: bad foods can put stress on our bodies. Good foods
- 15:08Speaker 2: alleviate stress from the body, and you wonder you know,
- 15:10Speaker 2: exercise helps as an antioxidant, it relieves oxidative stress.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Doctor Marco, let me ask you, is there anything that
- 15:17Speaker 1: you can prescribe you being a cardiol that is there
- 15:20Speaker 1: anything that you can prescribe that comes anywhere near the
- 15:23Speaker 1: power of preventing heart disease? Then a diet rich in
- 15:29Speaker 1: blueberries and soy and corniferous vegetables. Is there anything out
- 15:33Speaker 1: there that you can prescribe that is as it is
- 15:36Speaker 1: as equal that can help us as much as food can.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Yeah, there are some things and the things that I
- 15:41Speaker 2: can prescribe and is exercise and people don't think of
- 15:45Speaker 2: that as a prescription, but for some people, it needs
- 15:47Speaker 2: to be a prescription. Okay, adequate hydration, adequate rest and cleaning.
- 15:55Speaker 2: You know, we're proving this more and more with science,
- 15:57Speaker 2: is that their thoughts play a role in your health.
- 16:01Speaker 2: We've known for years that people that have sudden grief,
- 16:04Speaker 2: sudden anger, we know that those type of people have
- 16:06Speaker 2: higher rates of heart attacks because they make a lot
- 16:09Speaker 2: of adrenaline. So those are those aren't traditional prescriptions, but
- 16:14Speaker 2: all of those change your chemistry just like you know,
- 16:18Speaker 2: just like other things would. So these are all simple
- 16:20Speaker 2: things that can now. I wanted to share with us,
- 16:23Speaker 2: share with our listeners today. A very interesting study that
- 16:27Speaker 2: came out that and everyone's heard of the bad cholesterol
- 16:31Speaker 2: and that's called the ldl okay and that's linked to
- 16:34Speaker 2: cardiovascuar disease and that's what we sometimes give medicines to lower. Well.
- 16:38Speaker 2: They did a study on a group of overweight patients,
- 16:42Speaker 2: and overweight patients make a lot of these anti I
- 16:45Speaker 2: mean they make these oxidants because they eat high fast meals.
- 16:49Speaker 2: And they gave these patients strawberries, okay, strawberries to eat,
- 16:54Speaker 2: and they gave them the strawberries, and that they studied
- 16:58Speaker 2: them after that and they noticed that if they ate
- 17:00Speaker 2: the strawberries after they ate a faty meal, the strawberries
- 17:04Speaker 2: help prevent the oxidation of this bad particle called the LDL.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Now I don't want to say this out in public,
- 17:12Speaker 2: you know, I want people to eat healthy all the time,
- 17:14Speaker 2: but there seems to be a benefit if you happen
- 17:16Speaker 2: to happen to eat unhealthily. Let's say you eat a
- 17:19Speaker 2: fat meal, you have to have some ice cream or
- 17:21Speaker 2: some bad fatty stuff, Well, you might be able to
- 17:24Speaker 2: help negate some of that oxidation it occurs from that
- 17:28Speaker 2: meal by eating some berries or something good with it too.
- 17:32Speaker 2: So you know, we've always talked about a balanced diet.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Well you know that really this study shows that, you know,
- 17:38Speaker 2: you know, you can balance us out, so no matter
- 17:41Speaker 2: what you're eating. You know, for instance, let's say you
- 17:43Speaker 2: eat a bagel with some cream cheese, Well, you want
- 17:45Speaker 2: to have some protective, healthy foods that can help balance
- 17:48Speaker 2: it out. And they've done some studies with this and
- 17:51Speaker 2: they ex actually show that if you eat these things blueberries,
- 17:54Speaker 2: they saw a change in this type people that ate pecans,
- 17:58Speaker 2: which is another good thing that help lower the rate
- 18:00Speaker 2: of the bad cholesterol being oxidized. Well, bad cholesterol when
- 18:05Speaker 2: it's oxidized, these are triggers for bad things to happen.
- 18:08Speaker 2: So let's say you have to have some bad food occasionally, Well,
- 18:11Speaker 2: we want to make sure for sure that you also
- 18:14Speaker 2: eat the good food, and we're hoping you can eat
- 18:17Speaker 2: less of the bad food as time goes on as well.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we want to make sure that we're not giving
- 18:22Speaker 1: everyone permission to go out there eat whatever they want.
- 18:25Speaker 1: We really choose our level of health most of the time.
- 18:28Speaker 1: We could decide, so the more healthy you eat, the
- 18:31Speaker 1: more healthier you're going to be. But like you say,
- 18:34Speaker 1: doctor Markham, if there is an if you have to
- 18:36Speaker 1: go to a party, or if there's something there, the
- 18:39Speaker 1: only thing available is that bagel and cream cheese. If
- 18:42Speaker 1: you eat the bad food, please follow it up, follow
- 18:45Speaker 1: it up with some of that very powerful good food.
- 18:47Speaker 1: That's what I hear you saying right exactly.
- 18:49Speaker 2: And we have science. Now, that's what so excites cites me, Charles,
- 18:52Speaker 2: is we have science they're looking at right here that
- 18:56Speaker 2: proves that these help prevent these bad things from happening
- 18:58Speaker 2: in a body and can you iagine the benefit if
- 19:01Speaker 2: you you would get if you don't eat any of
- 19:02Speaker 2: that bad stuff and only the good stuff. Man, you're
- 19:06Speaker 2: really doing good and that's going to help lower your
- 19:08Speaker 2: risk of developing cardiovask of disease being one of these
- 19:11Speaker 2: six hundred thousand that might die per year in the States.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So that's that's very helpful. Do we have any more
- 19:17Speaker 2: questions today? We want to make sure we get everyone's
- 19:19Speaker 2: questions answered.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Yes we do. There's a question about vitamins and antioxidants.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Can we take a vitamin they have it act as
- 19:25Speaker 1: an antioxidant?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, you know, I always say that it's best
- 19:29Speaker 2: if you can eat your food the way God made it.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Not only is the absorption easier and the breakdown is easier,
- 19:36Speaker 2: but that's always the best way to get your vitamins.
- 19:38Speaker 2: But there are some antioxidant vitamins. Vitamin C is probably
- 19:43Speaker 2: the best known. Now I choose to eat my vitamin
- 19:45Speaker 2: C and things like citrus. Okay, but that's that's also done.
- 19:52Speaker 2: And vitamin E is an antioxidant, but you got to
- 19:55Speaker 2: be careful with vitamin E because vitamin E has some
- 19:57Speaker 2: downsize as well. Also vitamin A, the Vitamin A is
- 20:03Speaker 2: helpful as an antioxidant as well as the substance called selenium.
- 20:08Speaker 2: So all these things can help reduce some degree your
- 20:11Speaker 2: cardiovascular risk by preventing this oxidation, which is these radical
- 20:16Speaker 2: formations that turn on these bad cholesterol. So I hope
- 20:20Speaker 2: that answer their question. So Vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin
- 20:23Speaker 2: A are very helpful. They can bring up an.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Interesting point here, doctor Markham that while having these antioxidants
- 20:30Speaker 1: in isolation is helpful, how much better it is when
- 20:34Speaker 1: you have the full load of phytal chemicals with the
- 20:37Speaker 1: food that you eat. When you eat that orange, when
- 20:39Speaker 1: you eat the cyprus, when you eat those blueberries. It's
- 20:42Speaker 1: not only the antioxin is going in there, but probably
- 20:45Speaker 1: so many fytal chemicals that are doing good things to
- 20:47Speaker 1: you that we can't even name them in number them.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's a great point here, Charles. You know
- 20:51Speaker 2: about they say about fifty three percent of adult Americans
- 20:55Speaker 2: take at least one dietary supplement a year. And there
- 20:59Speaker 2: is a rece study that was done called the Hope Study,
- 21:02Speaker 2: and they took fifteen thousand male physicians and they really
- 21:06Speaker 2: showed no benefit from vitamin E or vitamin C no
- 21:10Speaker 2: benefit from that, and they actually found that if you
- 21:12Speaker 2: take this vitamin you know, not in this natural form
- 21:15Speaker 2: vitamin E, you had a higher risk of bleeding in
- 21:17Speaker 2: the brain or having a hymorrhagic stroke. So you're exactly right.
- 21:24Speaker 2: The best way we can take our vitamins is to eat,
- 21:27Speaker 2: eat them fresh as they were, you know, eat the
- 21:29Speaker 2: vitamin C as healthy and usually if you eat a
- 21:31Speaker 2: balanced diet, you get all the things you need. Some
- 21:34Speaker 2: strict vegetarians might have to supplement a little bit of
- 21:37Speaker 2: the B vitamins, but usually get everything that you need
- 21:40Speaker 2: from a good, healthy diet.
- 21:41Speaker 1: We just need to get back to the idea Doctor Markhaman.
- 21:45Speaker 1: You herald this at every show, that food really is medicine. Yes, exactly,
- 21:50Speaker 1: start messing with food and isolating things and making pills
- 21:54Speaker 1: or making drugs. You're losing a lot along the way.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Yes, it's not only medicine, Charles, but it's also poison too,
- 22:00Speaker 2: That's right. I mean it's a dual edged sword. It can,
- 22:03Speaker 2: it can make you better, it can. And I think
- 22:05Speaker 2: as long when we start getting this mentality that that
- 22:08Speaker 2: food is a treatment. You know, antiox and there's substance
- 22:11Speaker 2: in foods that are treatment to prevent disease and to
- 22:13Speaker 2: keep disease out of us. I think as we focus
- 22:16Speaker 2: on that, it could create a whole new mindset of
- 22:18Speaker 2: our listeners out there. You know, they want to say, listen,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I want to take some really good some really good pills.
- 22:23Speaker 2: I'm gonna take some fruits and vegetables. You know, I'm
- 22:25Speaker 2: going to be healthy.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely. God knew what he was doing, and we
- 22:30Speaker 1: have said that many times on this program. God, when
- 22:32Speaker 1: he put together human beings, he says, now, what should
- 22:35Speaker 1: I feed these beautiful beings that I have just made.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Let me make for them the perfect pill. No, I'm
- 22:42Speaker 1: going to say that, let me make for them the
- 22:44Speaker 1: perfect drug. No didn't say that either. God said, let
- 22:47Speaker 1: me make for them the perfect diet. And let's make
- 22:51Speaker 1: sure that that diet has all of the nutrition that
- 22:54Speaker 1: that human being is going to need, and all of
- 22:57Speaker 1: the energy will be coming from that nutrition. And all
- 22:59Speaker 1: the long jevity and all the cancer fighting and all
- 23:02Speaker 1: the diabetes fighting and all of the disease fighting elements
- 23:06Speaker 1: were placed right there in that food that God made
- 23:09Speaker 1: right alongside. Notice doctor Markham, the God made food first,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and then he made the people he had the food
- 23:15Speaker 1: in place, then he made the people to match the food.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I think that's kind of important for us to know.
- 23:19Speaker 1: So we know what God did, we know why he
- 23:21Speaker 1: did it, and I thank God every day when I
- 23:24Speaker 1: walk into the grocery store and I turn ahead for
- 23:26Speaker 1: the produce section, what I call the Eden section of
- 23:29Speaker 1: the grocery store, I know God knew what he was
- 23:31Speaker 1: doing and has for me what I need to stay healthy.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Well, that is very well said, and we want all
- 23:37Speaker 2: of our listeners to think about the food they eat.
- 23:39Speaker 2: We want to eat the healthy antioxidants, avoid oxidants. And
- 23:44Speaker 2: we're going to be with you very very soon again
