- Lucas: Ciao Luna, bentornata! Ready for another episode of Learn Italian with Fexingo? Luna: Ciao Lucas! Yes, I'm excited. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're talking about jobs — professions in Italian. Very useful if you want to tell people what you do, or ask what they do. Luna: Oh, that's perfect! I always want to know: 'What is your job?' in Italian. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with a common one: il dottore. That's 'doctor' — for a male doctor. Luna: Il dottore. Right, and for a female doctor? Lucas: La dottoressa. So il dottore, la dottoressa. Let's practice both. Repeat after me: il dottore. Luna: Il dottore. Lucas: La dottoressa. Luna: La dottoressa. Lucas: Good. Now, another useful one: l'insegnante. That means 'teacher' — it's the same for male and female, with the article l' because it starts with i. Luna: L'insegnante. So it's like 'the teacher'. Lucas: Exactly. And for 'student', we have lo studente for a male student, and la studentessa for a female student. Luna: Lo studente, la studentessa. That's clear. Lucas: Great. Now let's put them in a mini-dialogue. I'll be a patient, you be the doctor. I say: Buongiorno, dottore. You say: Buongiorno, come si sente? Luna: Buongiorno, dottore. Buongiorno, come si sente? Lucas: Perfect! Now switch: I'll say: Lei è un insegnante? You answer: Sì, sono un insegnante. Luna: Lei è un insegnante? Sì, sono un insegnante. Lucas: That's it. Now, let's practice the words again: il dottore, la dottoressa, l'insegnante, lo studente, la studentessa. Luna: Il dottore, la dottoressa, l'insegnante, lo studente, la studentessa. Lucas: You're doing great. And you know, if you're finding these episodes useful, there's a way to support the show and keep it ad-free. Luna: Yeah, it's really helpful to have these short lessons. If listeners want to help, they can go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Exactly. Every little bit helps us keep creating. Now, back to professions — let's make a sentence with 'I am'. Luna: Okay, so 'I am a doctor' would be... Io sono dottore? But I'm a woman, so io sono dottoressa? Lucas: Precisely! Io sono dottoressa. And if you were a teacher: io sono insegnante. Try it. Luna: Io sono dottoressa. Io sono insegnante. Lucas: Perfect. Now ask me: 'What do you do?' in Italian: Che lavoro fai? Luna: Che lavoro fai? Lucas: Io sono insegnante. So you can answer: Io sono studente. Luna: Io sono studentessa. Lucas: Excellent! So today we learned: il dottore, la dottoressa, l'insegnante, lo studente, la studentessa. Practice these, and next time we'll learn more jobs. Luna: I'll practice! Thanks Lucas, this was fun. A presto! Lucas: A presto, Luna! And to our listeners: practice these words, and we'll see you next time on Learn Italian with Fexingo.
