- 0:12SPEAKER_03: What's up everyone?
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: Welcome back to Kids in the Calling Podcast, where none of us are kids, but we all have a calling and let's definitely put a D test.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Audrey L'Jell.
- 0:19SPEAKER_03: With me today is Ramsey Padley.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: And Luke Gibson.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: Ooh.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: Okay, new intro.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: We don't have um Hudson today with us, unfortunately.
- 0:30SPEAKER_03: Oh wait, no, not even again.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: Because we didn't have it last week.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: We finally missed last week's podcast.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: We also forgot to address that to you guys.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: So sorry to our loyal listeners.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: We just didn't tell them.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we forgot.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: We were supposed to make a post and then the person over that forgot to do it, but I won't out them.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: Anyway, um, please forgive us and continue to listen.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: So, you two opening questions for this week.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: I've decided I like to do more than one, but we're gonna just do like short answers.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: So the first one is if you could erase one invention from existence, what would it be?
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: Oh no.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: Um, like physical or like software?
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Like a hardware or software.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've got mine.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: What?
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Jeans.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: What?
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Dude, whoever made jeans, I I wish you well, but dude, I don't know why you did it, bro.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Like, lucky, dude.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: There's so many better materials to make pants out of, and you just chose jeans, bro.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they just don't wear the jeans.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: You made a lot of work work life people, their life miserable, bro.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: But like, they could just choose to wear anything else.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I guess.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of workplaces you've got to wear jeans.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Oh, wait, maybe you're right.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: Like as a uniform type of thing.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: I'll stand by you.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: The Carhartt pants are better.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: They're they're just better.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Abolished jeans.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Or like other type of pants.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: It's just ranting.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: Well, I don't know.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: Uh maybe.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm lost.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: Mine's phones.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: See, but like I'm so good.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: I disagree with it though, because I feel like there's always-be a flip phone right now.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: There's always, but yeah, that's still the same thing as a phone.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: You have to say iPhone.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: iPhones.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Smartphones.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Smartphones.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Smartphones.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: That's a better answer.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: Because I feel like phones in general as a whole good for like communication.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Easy safety.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: Flip phone was like the perfect ratio.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, I have my phone on me.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: You could call me anytime.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: You could read.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: What about internet though?
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Because don't those not have good internet?
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: But we can figure that out later.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: That's just detail.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: I really don't know.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Old people don't laugh at us, please.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: Not calling you old either.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: We love y'all.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Youngins who used to have flip phones.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know, but I'd say phone just because I'm tired of even myself and just everybody always being on them.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: I would say like software-wise, like maybe just social media, but it's good for like promotions and stuff, but maybe not good for everyday use.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna just say social media in general.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: You should only be allowed to do it if you have like a business account.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but then like everybody would see it.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: The customers, never mind.
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: So I don't know, guys.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Well, we'll just go back to the old ways of promotion.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: You know, billboards, not gonna billboards, radios, door-to-door.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: It's okay.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: Anyway, so that was our opening questions segment.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Hope you guys enjoyed it.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: We're gonna now transition very unsmoothly to our topic one.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: Hey guys, our topic one is going to be two sermons this week because we're trying to catch up for what we missed last week.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: And of course, the one week we missed, Pastor Jared decided to do a like two-part little mini-series.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: So we have to accommodate.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: So it's on um his two sermons that were Build to Last, uh Tell Your Story, Tell Your Story, and this Sunday's, which was Build to Last, Me F I Am First.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I am first.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: So um you guys start us off.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: So both of them, both messages kind of almost flowed together or kind of had the same core thought to them, which is obviously what a series does, but specifically with these two, because it they both talked about businesses that either thrived or that died after certain generations, or were just not in the same family for those generations, even if they they kept on.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: So the main thing that I got from it was mostly how to become like a lasting Christian and that you your legacy will be passed down and the next generation will get what you have and the fire for it in their hearts, versus you know, maybe they they do it, but it's only tradition to them.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Like I think that was that was kind of the key overall in these is to make sure that we're not just passing on habits, we're passing on a lifestyle.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was good.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Um, so the stories he opened up with for the first message, tell your story from last week was about this guy named Cornelius Vanderbilt, and he built like this huge fortune of a hundred million dollars, which was one insane.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Two, especially for the time period that it was in.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was a while ago, so that's a lot of money.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: But basically he worked hard for it and it was this generational wealth.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Well, when he died, his son took that fortune and doubled it in literally less than a decade, which is also just insane.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: And he worked hard for it too.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: You know, he saw his father work, he worked, it was good.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: So when the third generation came, though, they never really, I guess, saw the hard work that was put into this money.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: And they lost it.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: You know, they were so used to their lifestyle, they built big houses, they did all this stuff, but then they lost that money.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And the family lost the fortune that that first generation built.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: So within three generations, a fortune was built and then lost.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Like that's a pretty short time period, you know, like that third generation.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: You would think it would last longer.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Well, the second message from last week was or well, from this week was I am first, built to last I am first.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: And that was starting off with the story of the Gucci brand and the family.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: I can't remember the name, it was like something Gucci.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: It was another one.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: I can't remember.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can't remember exactly.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: But basically he started this leather shop and then his son helped grow it.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: But by the time it hit the third generation, the family started getting fighting, started fighting and getting in disagreements, and the family then failed, like their family function failed.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: The thing is, that business kept going.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: And so the business, that one at the third generation, the business succeeded, but the family that originally started it wasn't in it anymore.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that was kind of his whole two opening stories within those messages that worked really well together to like make a whole point.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: But I thought it brought a lot out of just those two stories.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: You could take a lot out of it.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: I really liked it.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: It started off like kind of almost with the question, like I kind of just thought to myself, which is kind of what was implied.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: Can we do this with our faith?
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, can we do this in our spiritual lives?
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: So, like, starting off, like you said, I loved how these two sermons connected.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: They both, you know, came to one big question like, how do we make sure that our faith does not end with our next generation or with only a few generations that pass?
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: So I think that the main idea of both of these combined was that faith is something that we should pass down to the next generation, but every single generation after us has to make that faith their own.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: They have to tell their personal story, and they have to make it personal.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: I almost thought of it like with his example of what was it, uh rice patties to rice patties, and uh what were the other two?
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: It was like is it sleeves to sleep?
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: But basically, it's like hands-on in the business, yeah.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Actually working, not not sitting down and being complacent in the mansion.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Basically having your hands on in both of these company instances was exactly the key to success and continuing the success for it to grow and to compound for generations to come.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: If you are that person sitting in that mansion and not getting hands on, I feel like the vision of how this came to be starts getting blurred.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: Like the hard work that was put into this, you lose focus or you lose the idea of how it happened.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: You just kind of start expecting it to keep happening.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: And the next generation can't enjoy what you are currently enjoying.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: That's so that's kind of the key is you know, enjoy what you've been given and everything you received and learned, but pass it on so that not only you can enjoy it, but the next generation on and on and on had the opportunity to take that hands-on experience and say, Yeah, I'm gonna run with this.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna work hard and I'm gonna do exactly what my father or people before me had done and experience this goodness.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: And I like the kind of the visual you put in my head when you said like sitting in the mansion and just like, you know, spending the money doing this.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: It's like I didn't really think about it till just now, but it's like the example is basically saying that, you know, the first generation or first two generations made 200 million, well, however much money it was.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: And then the third generation just spent it all, ruined it for everyone behind him.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: Like you owe it to them, you owe it to your next generations to let them continue, especially spiritually.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: Like it's such an like that's way more important than any amount of money could ever be.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: So you owe it to your future generations to keep that faith going in the family.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: And it kind of like those stories relate spiritually because like just because we grew up around God or we attended church all of our lives, or our parents, you know, prayed and did this, like it doesn't automatically mean that we have a personal relationship with him.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: It doesn't mean that we did the things that made us right with God, that we made our own personal relationship with him.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: It just means that, you know, we kind of just watched from afar what they did.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: He mentioned that on last week's message towards the end of it, that you can't just be um, what's it called?
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: Like, you can't just stop with where your parents are, you can't rely on someone else's faith.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: So you can't just rely on your parents' faith and hope that that's enough to get you into heaven.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: You can't just stop with knowing Jesus or maybe what he's done and then just expect that to get you into heaven.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: The plan of salvation is much more intricate than that.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: You can't you have to take action for yourself, yeah, and put the work into it like they did, like the families did, the first generations did, to get that wealth.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: I really like the the fact that we're doing these together because I feel like you could almost compare both these sermons and combine it at the same time.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Because from the first one, we get the perspective we we need to learn two things, you know.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: In each of them we have one that we need to learn.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: From the first one that we're talking about, it's sharing and making sure we're physically passing on the knowledge, the perspective, the important things that need to be known and how to do, you know.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: But then the next one is oh, in the perspective of maybe the person uh older or younger than you, you know, you need to be able to give it to them, but you also gotta have that in you first before you pass that on.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: So it was really for every perspective from the young person to the older person.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: You know, both of these combined teach us something that we need for this season or the next.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: I found that there were kind of like three main points that connected the two sermons.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna I'm not gonna go through all three at like one time.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: Like I'll take them in chunks.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: Like I'll do the first one, and y'all can feel free to jump in.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: Um, so the first one that I kind of found was that you can't inherit someone else's relationship with God.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: And one of the verses that he brought up was Judges 2, 7 through 10.
- 11:15SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna read the whole thing, but I'll sum it up.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: And it's like it says, the Israelites served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the leaders who outlived him, those who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: And then it skips to verse 10.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: It says, After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: So, like we see, the Israelites experienced God's miracles.
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: That first generation experienced it firsthand, but that next generation grew up and they they didn't see any of that.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: And so they did not truly know God.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: They did not truly know the Lord because they didn't continue to have their own relationship with him.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: And it's kind of an example of how we can grow up surrounded by faith with you know, every like without ever really developing it on our own.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: It kind of struck me when he first said that was that it's a it's a big responsibility.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: Like you are responsible for what your next generation yeah, that's right, what your next generation is.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Will they take on what you believe?
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Will they take on your faith?
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: And will they love it as much as you do?
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Will they experience it have as you have?
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: And it just brought up this big like sense of responsibility.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: You can't be lazy with it, you can't just be willy-nilly with it, you can't just expect them to know what they need to do next.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I'll uh and then a big point that I really remember was Pastor Jared saying, I don't want to have to just tell my kids about what God has done in in uh my grandpa's life or even in my father's life.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: I want to be able to tell them what he's done in my life.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: So it's almost like, yeah, you need to walk with God and make sure you're having those moments with God, the ups and the downs, so that you can show, look, kids, he's faithful in every season, no matter the good or the bad.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: And then they can have somebody to point to that's not three, four generations away that they never even knew.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, my great-great-grandpa, he was raised from the dead when he was five years old.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: Like it's like you weren't there, you didn't experience it.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's great, but you want to know something that you've seen.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: You want to be able to know that your own parents were like an example to go up.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: I like that you bring that up, like the whole grandparents thing, because it makes me think, you know, like I feel like I've heard so many times in church services about like generational spiritual wealth and how you know the prayers of your grandfather can like be so, so like I guess anointed, like yeah, powerful that they like trickle down and they they can still be over your life today.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: But that does not mean that your relationship with God is is good.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that doesn't mean that you get a free pass to not do anything that strengthens your relationship with him or gets you to know him personally.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it has to be a personal walk that you create with God.
- 13:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it can't be from your grandparents or your father.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: And on the same lines is I feel if you don't have that generational wealth of being in a several generation Christian family, and you are that first generation, you want to be able to have those stories to tell your kids.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Like if you found something so great, you are never gonna wanna, you're never not gonna want to tell your kids that.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can build it.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a big thing.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Um, this also all reminded me of Proverbs 10:4 when it says lazy hands make for poverty, poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: And it's uh we went over this before when we were going over Proverbs, but it's such a um powerful thing that's so simple because you could be that third generation, and you may not do what your family did, like what your gent what the generations before you did, you may be starting to be considered lazy.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: And I feel like when laziness starts creeping in, it kind of gives you that selfish mindset of it's all coming towards me, and like I don't have to do anything, and so then you kind of just keep building that I don't have to do anything for stuff good to come towards my way, and that starts bringing in like the devil can creep into that and start letting you tear down the family, like or well the wealth.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: Okay, it'll be you will be the break of that generation.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you're gonna bring the break from your father to your children who gets like yeah, like how well this business does or how well your faith trickles down because if you end it all with you, then there's none left for future generations.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Very true.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: And what we were just saying about um the like inheriting someone else's relationship with God, it kind of makes me think like a question for us to think about, all of us, yeah, is are we following God because we personally know him or just because that's how we were raised?
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: Like the way I think of it is kind of like almost like self-evaluation.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: We've talked before about how self-evaluation is very important.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: I don't remember if it was last season or the first season or this season, but I know that we've talked about, you know, look like check yourself, check yourself.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: But if you're the problem, like kind of look at the plank in your own eye.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: And I kind of think of it like quizzes and tests.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: Like we have quizzes in school and it's you know, four or five questions.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: And if you get one wrong, you can see what you need to hone in and study, like study hard for the test rather than going on exam day without having any quizzes and you bomb it and you don't know what specific thing you did wrong.
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: You just you show up one day and you don't know how you got here.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: Like it's important that we self-evaluate and we think am I am I coming to church because my parents make me?
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: Or am I coming because I want to praise God and I want to worship him and I want to honor him?
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: Like, so just look back or think about your own walk with him and think, is it because that's what I believe, that's what I want, or is it because that's what I've always done?
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Cause it's so easy to get into that's what I've always done.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: Because when you're a kid and your family's going to church, you have to.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: You know, it's not a question your family's going to church, you go.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: And at some point that has to become the responsibility of your own.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: It has to switch to I'm going because I want to go.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's right.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: And you have to make sure you have that switch.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: I didn't know what I was gonna add.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, I feel like we all I I don't wanna I just don't want to go into my second point because I just said a chunk, you know?
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I didn't want to keep talking.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: So I'd go after you.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: Sorry, we're ready and we're going in like three seconds.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: That that brings it back to kind of the whole main point of the the message, the I am first built to last message, because you have to take on that ownership of I you have to act like you are that first generation.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: You can't just keep going and just assume it'll end up right, it'll end up good.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: You have to take on that um ownership of going in and committing as hard as you need to to get to where you need to go and not just let that slowly fade and just assume it'll all work out like because it worked out for your parents.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: Because you don't some sometimes you don't always know what happened to the other family, or well, I say other family, it could be another family or your parents.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: You don't know what they did to get there.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: You know, they don't you don't know all the sacrifices they made, the commitment they had to make to get to that moment you think will just come so easy.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then that brings you back to the other message of you have to tell your story, you have to tell your kids why what it took.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, these messages go hand in hand so well.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad we're doing them together.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: But no, actually, it kind of worked out perfectly because I that's I didn't even really think of it from that perspective.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: Like you see your parents when they're, you know, if they if your parents have you in their 25, you grow up, and by the time you're really like conscious, you're at the age of accountability when you can actually think about stuff for yourself.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: It's like they're like 30, 40, and their life is going like not might not be always smoothly, but you don't see all the hardships that they went through to get to the spiritual point that they're at now.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: And like you said, it's important that you tell your story because if the parents never tell the child, you know, there were hardships that we went through, but we had faith in God the whole time, and that's why we're here today.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: Then the kid just thinks life was perfect for them.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: And when their life goes south for a season, they're gonna give up and they're not gonna have the faith anymore.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: It's a big role to take on, I guess, because even if you don't have kids, I think it's as child as children of God, we also have that responsibility to share to the world, be an evangel of evangelize to other people and tell them the story.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: Is though your life may be going through a rough season, a storm.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: You may be struggling, but this is what God said for me, and I know He can do it for you as well.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: And so I think it's more than just telling your family, because yes, generational wealth is important, spirit, like spiritual wise, but generations don't always have to be family though.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it'll be the general teacher who's been through a lot to use students.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: The like the the sum of the worldly generation, you know, like the whole entire year-to-year generation, that's just as valuable as telling your future family.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: And I think another aspect that I I kind of just am thinking about now is also those that are receiving it, you know, they they also have a part in it, you know, as to say, you know, that generation before them, they could be doing all these steps perfectly.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: They could be outlining everything you need and giving you all the information, you know, giving testimonies, everything.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: But it's also partially if if I used me as the on the as the example, I have to be receptive.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: I have to be willing to, you know, actually do this and not just do it for the sake of doing it, doing it to live.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: To be a lifestyle.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Like like you were saying earlier, with actually sharing it, is like I learned some things, it's like some stories about my parents that I've never ever known before, like on the daily.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: You know, as but we have to be seeking that out.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Because there's some things that they not that they don't see as important, but they're just like, oh, I don't know why I would share that, or I didn't think about that when teaching you a lesson.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: There's just certain things that we could specifically get more out of and get more wisdom, get more of something we wouldn't have known.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's always good to keep asking questions, keep wanting to learn.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: Like that.
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: Um, Ramsay, you kind of covered the second thing I was gonna say, which is every generation needs an I am I am first mentality.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: So we kind of covered that, but I did want to say the scripture that I tied with it from his sermon.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: It was 2 Timothy 3.15.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: Um, it says, You have been taught the holy scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus, which kind of just sums up perfectly what we just said about you know, seeking and also telling your story from as a parental or a Christian parental, you know what I mean?
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like from that standpoint.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: Um, and then a thing that I really like that he said that goes along with this this is like my favorite quote.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: My favorite quote was even if you were a fifth generation.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Christian, you still have first generation responsibilities.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: We have to personally decide if we are going to follow Jesus or not.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: Like it's not on the first generation, it's on us as we become the new generation.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: And I think a question that I had for that that we could all think about is like, what does it actually look like to make your faith your own instead of depending on someone else's?
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: Like what in your like opinion is yeah, I mean, either like a day-to-day opinion, like what is something that you think makes your faith your own rather than just your parents or what you've always thought was right?
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: That's a good question.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Are we are we answering it?
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: Or is Yeah, yeah, it's like an open discussion answer.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: Well, I would say something that definitely can help for me, myself, and I, and just anybody is making personal time with Jesus because I mean, if all you ever see is your parents, well, for me, it would be if all I ever see is my dad is the one preparing a message, or my mom um, like picking out a set list or something, or just on a Sunday, or singing on a Sunday or preaching on a Sunday, that's not enough for me.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: And yes, what they do is great, but that's their ministry.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: I have to go and then study and figure out my own ministry and my own path for that, and also just have my own personal time because as we've learned through just talking about this, is your your parents' faith isn't enough for you.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so that's what this whole question is about.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: So I would say just making personal time is one of the best things you could do.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: That's a good answer.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I definitely uh can you repeat the question?
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: I want to make sure I answer it all the way.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: What does it actually look like to make your faith your own instead of depending on someone else's?
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: Like an example that you might do that you think makes it personal, your walk with God personal.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I think just like the way I grow in uh either reading or in prayer, because oddly enough, for me, if I find that I'm lacking in in prayer or in reading in a certain season, if I make a challenge or if I set a certain like goal for the end of a week or a month, I end up growing stronger than I ever have in my reading or in my prayer in that week or in that month of like certain doing this certain thing.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: Even if it's just like like reading one book every time.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: I like that like setting a personal goal for yourself.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: And that's been a strategy for me in the past.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Like if I if I feel that I need to refocus or recenter my attention or even just giving more time to those areas, if I do that, you know, that that really brings me back.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: I like those answers, those are really good.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: And then that may be something that I pass on, you know.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: Because I know that in the past I'd and it's not even like you you pull away from it, it's just like it it it dwindles and you have to, you know, reignite it.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: So that'd probably be a strategy I would talk about.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: Because I don't think people talk about that very often.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: That like the waning and waxing, if you if you do, you know, if you struggle with that, yeah, waning and waxing of either reading or something like that.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: To take the responsibility of relighting it or keeping it going.
- 25:02unknown: Yeah.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: I like your answers.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: That was good.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: That's different.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: You guys had like deep answers.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: My thought was just like, oh, you know, like reading your Bible.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: Like when your parents did like, you know, there's a difference between your parents saying, Hey, get in the car, we're going to church today, and me take initiative since I can drive now and being like, I'm going to church on Wednesday, even if my family's sick.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm gonna go.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: But you guys had deep answers, and I like those better.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: That's a good question.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: You did.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was just gonna add one thing.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: We were talking about um, I think you you brought up a scripture uh earlier about uh us learning the word as a child.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: And then growing up or something of the sort.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was 2 Timothy 3 15.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: Well, for for guys, for boys specifically in the Jewish uh education system, way back then in the uh the times of the Bible, maybe they still practice this now, I don't know.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: But I know at this time that they did from like it was five to a certain age, all the way up to like 13 was the last year that they would be in school.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: But during those years, they would they would almost learn the entire Torah and and like everything religious, like on and on and on toward like to a T.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: And they learned that all the way up to 13, and then it says here after 13, they would go back to their house and learn a their father's trade and continue that on in their life.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: So so their entire like learning life and young life was all Bible, all learning.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it was really only learning to them.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: They had to go out and make sure they kept practicing that.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Even whenever they went to do the everyday, oh, I'm just going to work for my father, I'm just going to work.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: They had to keep that in their heart and their mind, keep practicing it, keep it fresh in their mind if they really wanted to live that way.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Because the others, like at 13, you'd either go to try to be a priest, or you would literally just go back to your father's trade.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: That's yeah.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: I think that's what most of the disciples had done.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: That's why they like Peter was a fisherman.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: You know, Jesus was a carpenter.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: You know, I don't know if I've ever known that.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: I guess I didn't.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: You learned something new every day.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: That's kind of like one of those ways, I guess, they kept the family generation the last.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: Dude, they were literally keeping the generational wealth, passing down a trait they already knew how to do.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: How's it?
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: That was last help there.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean, I have my point through that.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, I don't like it.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: I don't want to.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: So the third point that I took from them that they kind of you could take from both of them, you know what I mean?
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: Um, is if we want our faith to last, we have to intentionally pass it on.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: So, of course, I have Bible verses for this one too.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: He brought up Psalms 78.4 and 2 Timothy 3.15.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: I'm going to read them both.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: So the first one is, we will not hide these truths from our children.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: We will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, uh, about his power and his mighty wonders.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: And Second Timothy 3.15 is you have been oh wait, we already read we did that one.
- 28:27SPEAKER_03: You have been taught the holy scriptures from childhood.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: We did that one.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: So part one of his story, or I mean, his sermon, why am I like out of it?
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: Bear with me.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: Um, from the first sermon, he emphasized, you know, telling your story and sharing what God has personally done in your life.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: But then in the second one, he emphasized giving the next generation opportunities to participate and serve and lead.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: I love when he said that because he's like, he was saying he likes or he really they strive to give opportunities to the youth in the church, opportunities to, you know, sing on stage or like do camera or like because if the next generation doesn't get hands-on, then how will they learn?
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: Um, and we can't assume that the next generation will automatically believe what we believe.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: We have to remember that.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: Just because we live a certain way and our children are just in the background watching how we live, does not believe does not mean that they're gonna grow up one day and be like, okay, I understand and I believe why my mom did that.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: Like that, you have to explain it to them.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: That's part of telling your story.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: And we need to do more than just teach traditions.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: We have to explain why we believe what we believe.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: And that's why it's important that we know what we believe and why we believe it.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: Because I mean, especially as a Pentecostal, you know, I think there's times in all of our lives and we've questioned, like, okay, why do we believe this?
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: Why do we do this?
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: Why do we wear this?
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: But then once you actually get to, you know, an age when you're curious about it and you're taking your faith into your own hands, you look, you look it up and you do your research and you read your Bible and you pray about it.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: And that's how you know you grow your faith is because you know that you're supposed to check everything with the Bible.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: It's um it reminds me of another point I was kind of thinking of when he was talking, it kind of came to mind.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: It was you have to have your priorities straight.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Like what what are you gonna like you were saying, when you do finally take your life into your own hands, when you kind of start flying out the nest, what what are your priorities?
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: And so I feel like you need to go and evaluate yourself, check yourself, make sure that your priorities are straight.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: And if they're not, start asking why and try and fix it.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: What are you putting most of your time into?
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Because you can't, you can't risk your salvation.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I feel like that's one of those things is you know, when people are starting to ask questions, they're like, Well, is it really that serious?
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Is this really that serious?
- 30:44SPEAKER_02: Do we have to do this?
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: Do we have to do that?
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: Blah blah blah, why, blah, blah, why?
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: Yes, great, keep asking questions, be curious, keep learning.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: Salvation is one of those things that you have to take that seriously.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: I feel there's there's no way around it when you're trying to be uh in ministry of have faith, um, a strong faith, and have a true relationship with God.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: That is something that needs to be a priority and needs to be first priority, like Jesus is first, obviously.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: But you need to just check yourself and then also realize that if it's not in line, go and start asking those questions.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Try and figure out how to grow that faith, like Audrey was saying, ask yourself what to do because that it is that serious.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Those are one of those things that you can't just get away with cheaping out on trying to do it.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: I like what you said whenever you said involved, because that was a point that he brought up.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: But I think it's so much more important than I really realized when he said it.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: You know, because I was like, Yeah, we have a bunch of youth that you know, they're they play instruments, they they sing, whatever.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: I'm one of them that sings, you know?
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I was thinking about it, and it's just such it really is a blessing to do that, because if you think about most of the things that you do daily or that you that are a part of your life, there's a good a good chance that a lot of them started when you were much younger than now.
- 31:58SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: That like there's a lot of habits that obviously we do take on and we add to our lives because we just enjoy them in that season or whatever, but a lot of the basics, a lot of the fundamentals of just like normal stuff throughout the day, they stick with you from whatever you did younger.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: And you can choose to change if you you know you figure out you don't like one of those things, but the way you operate whenever you're younger, you've probably grown into in some way.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 100%.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: Like like not a lot of many people will start a habit whenever they're older and end up excelling or growing in that and continuing in that.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Like I don't know many 60-year-old people that would pick up a guitar and be like, I'm gonna learn a guitar so well that I can just shred and do whatever.
- 32:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Like they'd they'd probably have more trouble at that time doing it than they would in the seasons before.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: And especially that lasting, even if they did start.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Right, exact that's a good point too.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Because if you start it earlier and continue to practice it, then you're gonna be more involved, you're gonna be realizing and learning throughout the the entire process why am I doing this?
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: And then you'll have what is it for?
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then you'll have um guidance to help you then grow when you do mess up and teach why.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: But I did also enjoy that point.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: It kind of reminded me of your story about how the Jews would go back to their father's trade and they'll learn it first and then they'll continue to.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: It's you have um like a you start young and you have a guardian or a guidance to help you through it, and then you'll become then the professional.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: But I did enjoy that point as well.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: It reminded me literally this Sunday for Youth Service.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: Normally we have a youth or younger person speak, and it gives them like chances to grow, opportunities to share what they have heard.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: But even just this last Sunday for Pulse, Lincoln, as y'all know, y'all old big podcasters, podcasters.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: OG listeners.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, yes, he preached Pulse, our youth service, and it's so crazy.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: I didn't even realize it until he starts bringing it up sometimes.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: How much the youth is involved with our services.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: It's kind of crazy.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: I know it is crazy because like honestly, if you look at a lot of other like churches, like you don't really see that many active youth in it.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it's for a reason, but it's like I mean, there are obviously it's still like a thing.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: But I mean, like our church is heavily, yes, very prominently like youth-led.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, we got our coffee workers, we've got our start here booth, we've got like welcomers, like there are so many singers or musicians.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we have a whole band of young people, a whole team, even the lightning and sound people, backstage young people.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Sorry, and you want to know why I think it works?
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Why is because of those who's passed it down to us.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we have many, many talented musicians, singers that have mentored and gone before us and been really, really great at what they did.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: I don't think all of our parents were singers or still are singers.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: Like, and it's just like we're seeing what we're talking about in action.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: And I'm just like really connecting the dots, you know.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: It's funny.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: Pretty crazy.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Um, one of my other favorite quotes that from each whatever I don't know which sermon it was from, but one of these sermons was that we should be grateful for the faith of the generations before us, but we cannot live off of their experiences with God forever.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: At some point, their testimony has to inspire us to develop our own.
- 35:10SPEAKER_03: Like, we can't just hope that our parents or what our grandparents and parents did is gonna carry us to eternity.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: Because like you said earlier, Ramsey, it's it's not.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Like their works is not what's gonna be our salvation.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: You have to take your salvation.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: It is such a serious thing.
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: And he stressed that in, I think it was last Sunday's sermon, uh, Tell Your Story.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: No, that was the yeah, yeah, last Sunday.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Or was it this?
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: No last.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: Um, but he stressed how important it is, you know, your salvation has to be in your hands.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: You have to take um take that responsibility responsibility, take that initiative to make sure that you're right with God.
- 35:43SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 35:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: Also, one other thing that I really, really like that he said, actually might be my favorite, was that there's a difference between knowing about God and knowing God personally.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: And one of his examples was saying, I believe in Jesus, I believe that Jesus is my savior, or I believe in Jesus.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: That is just the beginning of our walking over yeah.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: That is not the end result.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: The beginning is I've I believe that there is somebody who's he died for me, he saved my life.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: But then what?
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: What are you gonna do with that knowledge?
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Are you gonna go and live it?
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: Are you gonna learn more about the Bible?
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: Are you gonna learn how to honor him and how to like bring him praise?
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Because if not, then you're doing it wrong.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: I truly like that, he said.
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: I think like our youth group as a whole is doing a good job of like choosing to be used because like that's another thing.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: They had to do they had to do work to get there.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Like people have obviously taught them and trained them, but they had to choose to put in the time and the work away and to be a part of that and to be dedicated enough to be a part of that.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Because if you think about it, you know, you can anybody can go up and sing, but if you want to be anointed, you have to be dedicated, you have to be good and strong in your walk with God.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: There's more to it than just, oh, am I doing the same thing that the last previous generation has done?
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: You know, it's obviously what we've been talking about the whole time, but there's many components to it.
- 37:08unknown: Yeah.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: That's good.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: I like how you put that, choosing to be used because God can call you, but are you gonna answer it?
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: You know, you're are you gonna step in?
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: Are you gonna be hidden in yourself, whether you're scared, nervous, or you just are too lazy and you don't want to do it?
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: It could be a combination of all three.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: But are you gonna choose to walk in the calling on that straight and narrow path that God has called you to go on?
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: Are you just gonna hope that what you're doing right now is enough?
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: Because another with Audrey's point early on was you can't just be cum complacent.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: Is that the word I'm looking for?
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: With where you are.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: I feel like there's you could be happy and glad and for all the blessings you have been given from in for this moment right now, and you can be happy about where you are, but you never want to just be happy about like not wanting to ever grow.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: You can't just sit there, like you're gonna be able to do that.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: There's always more to learn, there's always more to grow in, and there's always more you could do for the kingdom of God.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: And then a last question I had to leave you guys off with is if the next generation followed God exactly the way that they see us following him, what kind of faith would they have?
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: Think about it.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: That is a good one.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 38:14SPEAKER_02: You said the last generation or the next generation?
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: The next generation.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: The next.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: Like if they were doing what you were doing right now.
- 38:23SPEAKER_02: Is that what you mean?
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: Like where would they be?
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: But you don't have to answer it, just think about it.
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: Answer it.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so kind of transitioning from our sermon um topic, I guess you could call it, to James, we're just gonna do it.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: The minute we are, we're just gonna do it.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna start talking about James 5, 7 through 12 this week, which was supposed to be done last week, but sorry.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: We're locking in this week, okay?
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're here now.
- 39:05SPEAKER_03: Um, so I'll read the first little bit because they were all sectioned off, like in the Bible.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:13SPEAKER_03: So the first one is it had it like a little title of it says Patience and Endurance.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: So the first cluster, or seven, eight, and no, seven and eight, sorry.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: And it says, Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord's return.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: You too must be patient.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: I really like it.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: I think the first thought that comes to mind is obviously like, oh, for for you believers, you know, we're I know y'all are waiting for the rapture, but but go day by day.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Go patiently.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: And it's like we can't be mad when nature, like in this verse, when nature simply takes its course, or when it's simply just not that time in God's plan for that wrath and that redemption, you know, for us to go up.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: Um What did y'all think?
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Like that was kind of my first thought.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: No, it actually.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: And I actually thought that I was gonna be the only one who thought that.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: Yes, I really like I thought I was well, I I don't know.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: You mean what it alluded to?
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: So yes.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Uh wait, no, I'm so sorry.
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: I just got my stuff mixed up.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Yes, I thought that, but that is what it alluded to.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: I thought I'm gonna I'm gonna let y'all know later what I thought I was talking about.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: That I think that I'm the only one who thought this.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: But that's a different verse, I think.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: But yes, I do agree.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: Um that like about the rapture and stuff.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: Um obviously it says be patient and trust God's timing.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: And I think I take that with like even when things aren't going how you expect, yeah.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: When things aren't going as quickly, maybe, or just exactly how you want, you have to just be patient.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: It almost got like the idea of it's like a call to not lose perspective.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Like, because in uh in uh Job somewhere in Job, I don't know, I haven't done write it down.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: But there's a scripture in Job.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Sorry, I was kind of rambling.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: There you're good.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: But it says, Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Oh it's basically like, you know, like let me just take the take this this uh this whole journey day at a time.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: You know, because if I lose perspective or if I if I want riches as a as a goal in my life, but I want it quick, I'm gonna do things that I shouldn't be doing that are out of God's actual daily steps for me.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man, Job was wise.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: Bro, he was on something.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 41:38SPEAKER_03: That's a great point.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: Um I remembered what I what my thing was that I think that I might have only thought, but now I think about it, probably y'all thought it too.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: Let me know.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: So the part that says just like the farmers wait for their crops to grow, we have to trust God during the seasons of waiting, which is like basically what it says.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: I thought of like spreading the gospel.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: That's it, it kind of reminded me of.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: In the waiting, almost whatever your hands find to do, do it well.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: In the waiting, what like do whatever you can to better God's kingdom.
- 42:08SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: It says find the harvest that you want to ripen.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: Look for the souls who are lost, spread the gospel, help those who are hungry and searching.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: It may be a classmate, it may be a friend or a coworker, anyone.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: While we are waiting for Jesus to come back, we should be looking for the next person to bring to the Lord.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's actually that's a very good point.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't think of it exactly like that, but that's that is a point that you for sure can pull out of this.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: I um immediately noticed the comparison he made between us and farmers and the patients farmers have, um, and how kind of how R took it, but not in the same way.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: A farmer doesn't plant his seed and immediately get fruit, you know, and we all know that.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: And in this in like the same way, but a different way.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: Another thing to mention about a farmer's patients is that they can plant a seed and they'll expect it to come during harvest season.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: But it what if it doesn't, you know?
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: They still have to be patient.
- 43:07SPEAKER_02: Like maybe, so you know how like sometimes a seed will take longer to grow than you expect.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: It may not bud in the season you thought it would.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: Um, you have to still be patient and nurture it as best as you can, kind of like what you were saying, is with before the harvest, do whatever you do well.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: And you'll still nurture that seed, and it may not have come, it may not have come when you expected it, but that you planted a seed and the promise of that seed is that it will sprout.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: And so we have that same, we have to have that same mindset in our spiritual walk is we may have a promise from God, but we have to be patient for when that season finally comes.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: Explosion, boom, loved it.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: Because not every day is gonna be the ups and downs, but some days may lead to it, some days may help build up to that point, even if it's not that one big explosion day, like you're saying.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: There's gonna be some days where you're just you're on the mountaintop.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: And you have to be willing to step down off the mountaintop to keep walking with God, to keep taking those daily steps with Him.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: You guys are having absolute bangers back to back.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: I'm impressed and I love it.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 44:13SPEAKER_03: Like you have to be willing to get off the peak, like the mountaintop.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Just keep walking with God.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: Because like it's not the highest.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: Like you're on like a peak and it's pretty high, and you're like, wow, this is high.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: But then like the real peak that's the finish line that's God's got planned for you is like way higher than it can be.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: Four times higher.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: I really like it.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: I feel like many times in life we look forward to something for a season, even if it's just for a week or two, and then sometimes for a long time.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: And we get to that moment, and it's like, eh, that was that was alright.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: That wasn't what I hyped it up to be.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: This is something we can hype up for our entire lives, and it will still be greater than we could ever hype it up.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: It's just a beautiful thing that we can look forward to this.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: Dude, gosh.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: The patience is so worth it.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: I'm excited.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: Amen.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: Amen.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: James is doing so good so far.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: So far, so good, technically.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: Anyway, once a verse nine.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: It says, Don't grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged for look.
- 45:06SPEAKER_03: The judge is standing at the door.
- 45:08SPEAKER_03: Wow, I have a lot of things to say about this one, oddly enough.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: Let's hear it.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: So this verse seems very simple and it's kind of like it, it's it's kind of giving that vibe of like a passover and a move on kind of thing.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Like you read it, you read it, and now you're done.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: And I feel like those verses are always the ones that hit the hardest and are like the most you dig deep and you actually find gold.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Ooh, I like that.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: Oh yes.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: It's like this one's like a gut punch because it's one of those things that we let slip all too often from either being tired or frustrated or a mix of all of your emotions.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: And we can make an excuse for being mean towards one another and grumble at or about each other, as the Bible says.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: And to me, sometimes the simple ones are obviously the biggest gut punch because they're so yeah, they're so easy to slip by.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: You know, we all know not to murder or commit adultery or still.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: But do we know how to take control of our own emotions in in our day-to-day life?
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: Because like those are like those big moments, you know.
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: Obviously, small things will hopefully not to us, but will lead up to those big things like doing those, like everybody knows not to do that sin.
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: But what about those moments when daily we just like those little things slide, but we blame it on our own feelings in that moment and kind of just make an excuse for ourselves.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: It was almost like what would happen, like in the moments where you're not gonna get punished for it immediately.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, if you murder someone, you're going to jail.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: If you burn a building down or do like, you know, some crazy thing, like you're you're gonna get punished for it in this life.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: But for the things like treating your neighbor kindly, there's no punishment if you're gonna be mean to them.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: Like you have to take it upon yourself to do what's right because it's right, like not because you'll get in trouble for it.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: And then I I I don't know if this is different or similar to how you guys were were kind of discussing and thinking about it.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: But on one hand, like Job put it very well, and I have to take this perspective whenever there's somebody that aggravates me at school, or maybe, or like there's somebody around me that's just like I don't know, it irritating me maybe a little bit.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: I have to keep this in perspective, what Job said in Job 31, 15.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: Did not he who made me in the womb make them?
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: It's almost like, man, like if I think that the like never to say that I I think somebody's inadequate, but if if I'm thinking bad, even just in a small way about somebody else, yeah, that's the same, like God created the me and them.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: Both his creation.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: So we're basically calling, like, we're basically pointing a finger at God and saying, like, hey, this is bad, this is wrong.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: What is this?
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: No, that that's not true.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: And which we know that is not true, because everything he creates is in his own perfect will.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: And so who are we to even judge his perfect will?
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Because obviously, we're not perfect, he was the one who sent his son to be perfect.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: We can never compare to that, we can never even imagine that we sin daily.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: And so I think I agree with you because that's like point that's our brother and sister in Christ.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: You know, like we are all children of God, and God is our father.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: We are all we're supposed to be united.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: And that um brings me kind of to like the other thing it it made me think was um if you let your emotions control you, that's one of the worst things you can do.
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: Because earlier in James 119 through 20, it says, Under spirit, understand this, my dear brothers and sisters.
- 48:27SPEAKER_02: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Human anger does not produce the righteous desires of God.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: Did righteous righteous produce the righteousness God desires?
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: I twisted that up.
- 48:39SPEAKER_02: But God desires some a way for us to act, you know, like He He wants, He gives us a choice on how we could live, but He has a plan for us and He wants us to follow that, and that's His desire for us.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: And I was probably going a little like crazy with like the extraordinary example of inadequacy.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: I didn't mean really that the other person was inadequate, you know, when somebody like bothers you just throughout the day or just something like that.
- 49:03SPEAKER_01: No, not like that.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: But I think it's crazy how such a simple thing as our perspective can really change the way we think and the way we act, and if we're in line with the word or or not.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: Interactions.
- 49:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: Um, because anger is and emotions are such a a powerful thing.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: I think it's always important to recognize that that's a way that the devil can get to you.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: And if you let your emotions control you, then uh you're not following God's God's way and God's will for us.
- 49:37SPEAKER_02: And that could start, I think emotions are dangerous.
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: They can start a big problem within the church body, which is what you were talking about, is how you should you're looking over at your your brother or sister in Christ and you're pointing the fingers at them.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: That's going to start um dividing, dividing the church body.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: And God calls his church to be united.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: And I think that's one of those um small things that you let slip through the cracks that can slowly start causing division within a church or a family or friendship group.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: It can cause division.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: And that's just one of those things that a small thing can create a big impact for not good.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: It a small thing can create a big impact for good, which is creating which is which is um being kind to one another.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: But that same small thing can create a big impact in the opposite way as being mean to one another or um talking down on somebody, it'll create the vision, which is ultimately not our goal.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: The goal is to be united.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: It's the complete opposite of what we should be doing.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree.
- 50:55SPEAKER_03: So, verse 10 through 11, they say, for examples of patience and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: We give great honor to those who endure endure under suffering.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance.
- 51:09SPEAKER_03: You see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: Well, what are the odds?
- 51:16SPEAKER_03: Somebody's been bringing up Job all day today.
- 51:19SPEAKER_01: All day.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, he's telling me.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: Um, so like it says, you know, we can look at the prophets, look at Job's life, and see that they faced hardships, but they remained faithful to God.
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: And that's how their stories are in the Bible.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: That's why their stories are so significant.
- 51:36SPEAKER_03: Because a lot of people, you know, they crumble under the pressure of, oh no, like this isn't this isn't going how I thought it would go.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna give up now.
- 51:43SPEAKER_03: But they exactly but they didn't.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: Like Job didn't.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: Job, and if y'all don't know the story of Job, dude, go read it and bring a tissue box with you.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: I found a verse in Ecclesiastes that almost just like I felt like described Job's story very, very well.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: Ecclesiastes 3, 1 and 2.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven, and hear this a time to be born and a time to die.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: He lost family and got a new family, a time to plant and a time to harvest.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: He lost everything and everything else grew back and he got more battle on the end.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: And his story is crazy.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: So it's just like earlier we were talking about, like, if you are so stuck on the top of that mountain that you you let God keep going, you don't keep stepping in his you know, walking in his steps that are ordered, and go down in the valley, Job would have never had true fulfillment in the end and found that, oh man, I have more cattle than I ever have.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: I have a truly united family.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Because if you remember, his wife at the end of the story was was basically saying, Curse God.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: So so was his family all the way a unit?
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Was it truly, you know, so maybe maybe that was for the better and finding like what he lost didn't even compare to the measure of what he gained.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: And that um staying at the top of the mountain and not continuing to go reminds me of the families.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: If you just get complacent in that mansion, you know, that your family built for you, you'll never keep going into continuing the further of what you could have, other than just that.
- 53:17SPEAKER_02: That's good point, Snoop.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: And I like that the verse specifically said um endurance, those who endure suffering.
- 53:24SPEAKER_03: That's who they it says we give great honor to those who endure under suffering.
- 53:27SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 53:28SPEAKER_03: And you know, endurance just really means continuing to trust God even when life gets difficult.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: And we know as Christians, like we've been through things in our lives, but you know, just because you're a Christian and you believe in God does not mean that your life is easy breezy for the rest of your life.
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's right.
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: There are challenges, and if not more, because the enemy can be trying to tempt you and make you fall into sin.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: But you see it so many times in the Bible, so you have to know it's so important to stand firm in your beliefs and to never let never get swayed off of the straight and narrow because it is so easy to.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: If you stay in the bad long enough, the good will eventually come.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: Because like that's kind of my my first thought that I had when I read these two verses together was like balance.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: God keeps us balanced so well, even if in a season that feels long, we've had it really bad or really good, there's always something to bring it back, you know, focused or centered and be like, oh, that was not nothing, but that that helped me.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: Or look at where I'm at now.
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, kind of to answer Audrey's question from earlier in another way that I'm just realizing is a way to grow a way to grow your faith would be to seek help to endure through the storms because that is what grows your faith.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Staying and enduring through the hard times is what grows your faith to be stronger for when a harder time may come.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: And that's preparation for you know, whatever God has planned for you.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 54:52SPEAKER_03: That's a good thing to say.
- 54:53SPEAKER_03: I didn't think about that.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Like we say, you know, keep keep fighting, like don't give up.
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: But it's also like part that doesn't mean you're awake, like part, port part of it.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: Oh my goodness, part of you know, staying firm in that can be seeking help, seeking from somebody who you might have known gone like has gone through the similar situation.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: Like it's not weak and it's not it's not against the rules to ask for help.
- 55:15SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: And then think about it.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: If you want to be able to pass down to the next generation, oh yeah, the things that God has done for you, you have to be able to, you have to have had the endurance to go through something to have a testimony, to have something to show for your true like walk with God.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, because you're not just going, it's not gonna all be easy breezy like we've been saying.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: It's going to be if you can endure through the these things, you're gonna have something that you can show.
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: Count it all joy, bros.
- 55:47SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: Good pull.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: Um, let's see.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: What else?
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Do you have anything else for 10 and 11?
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: No, but 12 is spicy.
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: Should I read it or do you guys want to take a cluster turn?
- 55:58SPEAKER_03: Go at it, cluster girl.
- 56:01SPEAKER_03: So verse 12 says, But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath by heaven or earth or anything else.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: Just say a simple yes or no so that you will not sin and be condemned.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: Luke, let's hear why it's so spicy.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: Is that what you said?
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, I was just saying it is good.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: It's like it recaps it very well.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: And it's it it almost brings us back to the right perspective of like, hey, you know, you're gonna have life and it's gonna come at you in in sometimes in a good way and in a bad way, but you have to be willing just to walk with God and take the steps that He's He's ordering you in, no matter what your plans may look like or whatever.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: Like, there's actually another scripture, um, Proverbs 16, 9.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: Um, it says, We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: So I don't know if that relates enough, but um whenever I think of it, I'm like, okay, I I do have plans in my life, but you know, obviously trials are gonna come.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: I can't, you know, separate from God's steps just to pursue my plans.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: I have to make sure that even if it doesn't align with my plans that I that are made, I'm still walking with God and I let him direct my plans.
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:13SPEAKER_01: I let him change the course of my plans because he may need that.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: He we he may need to change our direction for a future season that he's gonna use us in.
- 57:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and kind of how you were saying heaven is gonna be so much greater than we can imagine.
- 57:24SPEAKER_02: God's plan for us is so much greater than we can imagine.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: It'll be better than what we can imagine for ourselves.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: What we can plan.
- 57:29SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, exactly.
- 57:30SPEAKER_03: So do that, do your same thought process on that.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 57:35SPEAKER_03: Imagine how good life can be if you do it on your own, and then it'll be way better because we got all the hacks, bro.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: Dude, listen to us.
- 57:42SPEAKER_03: Like, we got hacks for days.
- 57:44SPEAKER_03: That's crazy work.
- 57:45SPEAKER_02: Well, for that verse, um, which that's really good.
- 57:48SPEAKER_02: I didn't think of it that way.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: I kind of thought of it in a different way when I was going into um studying it.
- 57:54SPEAKER_02: He is he isn't okay.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: He's saying don't swear into anything you cannot promise.
- 57:59SPEAKER_02: Truthfully, is kind of what I got out of it.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: He doesn't mean like when I was reading it, I took it more literally.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: And he's saying he's not he he doesn't mean don't swear at all.
- 58:08SPEAKER_02: And by swear, I guess I would I I think he means promise.
- 58:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're not saying like curse.
- 58:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you really shouldn't curse at all.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: But yeah, yeah, but he's not saying don't make a promise at all, but when you make that promise, mean it.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: And as I was um looking into it, I was reading um, I was on Blue Letter Bible um earlier, and I was reading that apparently many Jewish people in the time James wrote this made distinctions between binding oaths and non-binding oaths, and oaths that did not include the name of God were considered non-binding oaths.
- 58:40SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 58:41SPEAKER_02: And to use these oaths was a way of crossing your fingers behind your back, I guess, like in modern terms.
- 58:45SPEAKER_02: And so when telling, and it was when telling a lie.
- 58:48SPEAKER_02: And so in these kind of oaths that James um condemned, and that's that's again from blue blue letter letter Bible, but those kind of oaths are the ones James was condemning is don't just say um a promise, it could be anything small to big, not truly mean it from your heart.
- 59:05SPEAKER_02: Um, because he was condemning the oath made to he was condemning the oath made to be broken, like a broken promise slash lying was what he was condemning.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: He Or giving yourself an option to not stick with it, basically.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: Like, and that's kind of bringing it back to um don't give yourself an easy way out, don't just make excuses for yourself to get out of these things, but just watch what you say and make sure that you're not going back on your word.
- 59:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:33SPEAKER_01: And you know what's crazy?
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: I got another like perspective out of it too.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Whenever I saw Oath, I was like, man, they're talking about serious things, and then heaven or earth, like putting it on that type of thing, they're all very serious, you know.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: So in this instance, I was like, well, then maybe I I can learn from this that I don't need to make like not every decision is so important that I have to put all of heaven or all of earth on it.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: Like I shouldn't focus or I shouldn't make this such a serious thing that this will define my entire life.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: If you're walking with God, even if like I hate to say it this way, but even if you make the mistake or you don't make the right decision in that moment, he's still gonna direct your path if you're walking with him to the right place, to the destination that he has called for you.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, that's good.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I took it the same way as Ramsey, but kind of a different spin on it.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_03: So um I kind of took it as like be truthful in everything that you say.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: Like you shouldn't have to, I kind of like this is what I really liked.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_03: You shouldn't have to swear and make promises or like swear on something for people to believe you.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: Your word should reflect your integrity and character as a Christian.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_03: People should automatically know, hey, when Ramsay says this, she means it.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: Ramsey's yes is a yes and her no is a no.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_03: Ramsey doesn't lie, Ramsay doesn't, you know, cheat her way out of stuff or try to slide through the cracks.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_03: Like she, what she says is what she means.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_03: And it just kind of like God wants us to be honest and trustworthy in every situation, of course, because that shows our integrity as a Christian.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: When I I completely agree with that.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_02: When I kind of um, I don't, I'm trying to figure out, I don't think it really correlates.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: But when I first read this, the first thing that popped in my mind when he was saying never take an oath by heaven or by earth or anything else, just a simple yes or no.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_02: It reminded me of the one foot in, one foot out type of thing.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: It's like you need a simple yes or no.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_02: Are you all in or are you all out?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_02: Like make your decision and stick with it is kind of what I first got out of it.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: Um, because you I can't remember the exact verse, but God explicitly says that you can't have you can't be lukewarm, you can't have one foot in, one foot out.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: And so this verse kind of just almost reminded me of it.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: Um, make a make an answer and stick with it.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: Don't turn, I mean, okay, well, so if you chose one foot out, uh both feet out, um, don't stick with that one just because you stuck with it.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_02: Um come back.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_02: No, Ramsey said to stick with it.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: Stick with it.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_02: Please, please come back.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: But make make your decision and don't try and be wishy-washy because that'll also just never work out for you ever.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: And so reminded me of that.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: I actually have I just thought about it and pulled it up, but we got Matthew, Matthew 5, I believe.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, Matthew 5 and 37 specifically.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: 37 says, just say a simple yes, I will, or no, I won't.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Anything beyond this is from the evil one.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: And before that, it talks about how you don't have the power to do anything great or to fix what you what you promise that you're going to do.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: And like it says, don't even say by my head, for you can't turn one hair white or black.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_01: You don't have any power or any control.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_01: So I think that's another aspect that we could take from it is like anything beyond just saying yes or no and committing or not committing to something is is beyond.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: It's it's from the evil one.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: That's a good that's a just think of that.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_01: Uh well, I remembered let your yay be yay and your nay be nay.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_01: Uh and we're talking about saying yes and no and it's the verses that we're in, so it's like Yeah, that's good.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: Oh, wow.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_03: So, guys, we covered obviously the first two term or the two tournaments from this last Sunday and the one before that.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_03: And, you know, kind of what we can just take away from that is think about the family business.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_03: Family business is don't let your generation, your face, your generational face pass down.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_03: Your generation.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_03: Make sure that you are telling your story.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_03: Make sure that you are telling your story to that.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_03: Next generation can know how to put their relationship with God first.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_03: Mainly the patient of endurance, even hard times in God.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_03: And then of course we talked about it.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_03: So obviously.
