- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm Jamaican now, actor, producer, model, professional, former professional athlete.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It's a lot yes, and there's a lot of are
- 0:36Speaker 1: you you're not Jamaican?
- 0:37Speaker 2: I not Caribbean, big shout out. I'm a Caribbean people.
- 0:40Speaker 1: What are are you just black?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Look?
- 0:42Speaker 1: Are you just black?
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm a mutt most black people are.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that's true.
- 0:47Speaker 2: What about yourself?
- 0:48Speaker 1: For you, I'm one hundred percent much money people. People
- 0:51Speaker 1: look at me. That's a Puerto Rican, Hispanic, Dominican Spanish
- 0:55Speaker 1: speaking something.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I'm black, my mother is black, my fault is black.
- 1:00Speaker 2: But they yeah, my family has a lot of other
- 1:05Speaker 2: other things. The you know, everybody like to claim that
- 1:07Speaker 2: they Cherokee. Yeah, yeah, got all that. You know what
- 1:11Speaker 2: I'm saying. So there you have it.
- 1:14Speaker 1: So before we get into everything, Blue Kimball, I wanna
- 1:18Speaker 1: know what you're gonna be cooking us for breakfast today?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Mm well, I didn't even mean to say that breakfast,
- 1:23Speaker 1: but m y, you know. But technically this is my
- 1:26Speaker 1: first meal of the day. So what are you gonna
- 1:27Speaker 1: have me eating today? And go through the ingredients in
- 1:29Speaker 1: the season.
- 1:30Speaker 2: A lot of people like to call them struggle plates.
- 1:33Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, when you're cooking and you're
- 1:35Speaker 2: broke and you're struggling. But being from the South, like
- 1:39Speaker 2: I said, I'm from Atlanta, so southern culture, southern heritage.
- 1:44Speaker 2: You can eat breakfast all day, breakfast for lunch, breakfast
- 1:48Speaker 2: for dinner, come home at the club two in the morning,
- 1:53Speaker 2: late breakfast. So this is a struggle plate. We are
- 1:57Speaker 2: making a sandwich. P s.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Okay, what's in your sandwich?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Make no way a sandwich? No, that's not what we said,
- 2:18Speaker 2: say it right, sandwich A sandwich, hilarious sandwich. Not a sandwich.
- 2:24Speaker 2: This is a sandwich and it's gonna have eggs and
- 2:29Speaker 2: bacon and cheese. But a sandwich can be comprised of
- 2:33Speaker 2: whatever ingredients you choose. But we gonna do eggs and
- 2:37Speaker 2: bacon for this sandwich and.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Cheese and for the sandwich. Do you do your eggs
- 2:41Speaker 1: scrambled or hard over easy?
- 2:43Speaker 2: Like either or depends. Sometimes it's scrambled, sometimes you do
- 2:47Speaker 2: 'em hard. You wanna do hard? You from New York?
- 2:49Speaker 2: I'm New York like hard eggs. They like their eggs hard,
- 2:53Speaker 2: we do, so we gonna do hard egg okay, cause
- 2:57Speaker 2: New York is in the building, So yeah, we gonna
- 2:59Speaker 2: do hard eggs for me. Every everything from New York
- 3:01Speaker 2: is just hard eggs. Hard. The girls are hard bralic.
- 3:06Speaker 1: He's been making fun of you guys since he got here,
- 3:09Speaker 1: so right now, blue hats for all your listeners. He
- 3:11Speaker 1: already started cooking the potatoes.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Mm.
- 3:13Speaker 1: So that was a nice addition. So it looks like
- 3:16Speaker 1: it'll be a nice hearty breakfast. Go ahead and hardy,
- 3:19Speaker 1: hardy breakfast, cause you got potatoes. Go ahead and make
- 3:21Speaker 1: me some breakfast, man, and get into this sandwich.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Times get into it. Like you said, we going to
- 3:28Speaker 2: oil this pan, you know, with some organic virgin oil.
- 3:34Speaker 2: You know they say you're not supposed to be U
- 3:35Speaker 2: vegetable or no more. Right, Yeah, even though we still do,
- 3:39Speaker 2: I know you still do.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm trying. No, I use it only like if I'm
- 3:44Speaker 1: doing potatoes or maybe plantings every once in a while.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And yeah, but you just said you wasn't Puerto Rican.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I'm Jewish and Jamaican.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Oh no, wonder you hit me with the Caribbean vibes. Okay,
- 4:03Speaker 2: any man with a job.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Is Jamaican exactly. And well with multiple jobs.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Multiple jobs, you have a lot of.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Jobs, okay. And it looks like you've had a nice journey.
- 4:14Speaker 1: So take me back to what was going on. Take
- 4:16Speaker 1: me all the way back to the original, because I know, Salm,
- 4:19Speaker 1: the sandwich meal can be still be you know, you
- 4:23Speaker 1: can still enjoy that today. But take me back to
- 4:26Speaker 1: the time when this was a meal of to keep you, keep.
- 4:31Speaker 2: You full, because it's like that, like you said, during
- 4:35Speaker 2: the times when you're struggling or whatever and money is
- 4:38Speaker 2: an issue, crack that egg because you want them hard.
- 4:46Speaker 2: You know, you gotta you know, reach and and and
- 4:49Speaker 2: find things that are last. And it's always eggs. Eggs
- 4:53Speaker 2: is a meal that you that you can buy a
- 4:56Speaker 2: card and the eggs for the low, you know what
- 4:58Speaker 2: I mean. And you can always eat eggs for breakfast,
- 5:00Speaker 2: lunch of dinner.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Do back in the day it was for the low.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, well not now right. You gotta be balling to
- 5:04Speaker 2: get eggs now. But back in the day, that's what
- 5:07Speaker 2: it was. You can get eggs. So anytime, like I said,
- 5:10Speaker 2: money low, you can't get out, you can't eat. You know,
- 5:13Speaker 2: you gotta get some and you know, the men that
- 5:17Speaker 2: work out want their proteins and this and that eggs
- 5:20Speaker 2: is that eggs is the good you know, the good protein.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So at any time you can always.
- 5:25Speaker 1: So can you take me back to a time when it.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Was eggs for the low low and you can eat
- 5:30Speaker 2: eggs all week?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Can you take me back to a time when it
- 5:34Speaker 1: was like times were rough most like starting out, maybe
- 5:38Speaker 1: before you became a professional.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Uh see, that's the whole thing. People think that just
- 5:44Speaker 2: because you're a professional athlete, that means you're rich, that
- 5:47Speaker 2: means you're balling. That means this majority of football players
- 5:52Speaker 2: are making league minimum, you know minimum. Back then it
- 5:57Speaker 2: was a hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Okay, you know
- 6:02Speaker 2: what I'm saying. Right now, I think it may be
- 6:03Speaker 2: it may be two fifty, but it's still a lot
- 6:06Speaker 2: of people that's making league minimum. So after you go
- 6:09Speaker 2: through that and tax you know, you're getting still gonna
- 6:13Speaker 2: get taxation and all that. So, yeah, you're playing football,
- 6:16Speaker 2: but yeah you're not rich, you're not balling. You're just
- 6:21Speaker 2: getting paid to you know, your dream to be a
- 6:26Speaker 2: professional football player, and you still chasing the dream. But no,
- 6:30Speaker 2: the people that are the names, the people in the
- 6:32Speaker 2: names that you know, and they're getting paid twenty million
- 6:34Speaker 2: dollars a year. Mm. But trust me, it's more people
- 6:36Speaker 2: that's making league minimum than it is. Yeah, people that's
- 6:40Speaker 2: balling and getting paid all the money and.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Being being a football uh huh uh NFL player. The
- 6:47Speaker 1: schedules like what what what does the schedules? It like
- 6:50Speaker 1: a hundred percent full time, eat, sleep, dr everything. It
- 6:54Speaker 1: is that what it is.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yes, I don't know.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I'm just saying I I I.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I don't like this, okay. So being you know, from
- 7:01Speaker 2: the culture, you know, a man and whatever. Most in
- 7:04Speaker 2: our demographic from the eighties from the nineties, there wasn't
- 7:09Speaker 2: too many dreams that I mean not dreams, but too
- 7:12Speaker 2: many other things that you see people that look like
- 7:15Speaker 2: you and be like, oh I wanna do that, I
- 7:17Speaker 2: wanna be that. So that's why it's always sports it's
- 7:19Speaker 2: always football, It's always basketball, because that's us. That's who
- 7:23Speaker 2: we see, you know what I mean. Now, in this
- 7:26Speaker 2: time and in twenty twenty five and going forward, you
- 7:29Speaker 2: see so many different things. You know, with the Internet,
- 7:31Speaker 2: you could see black lawyers, black doctors, black whatever. Back
- 7:34Speaker 2: but back then, your superstar, your hero is gonna be athletes. So,
- 7:39Speaker 2: like I said, we play sports from the beginning. I've
- 7:43Speaker 2: been playing football, basketball, everything since I was five years old.
- 7:46Speaker 2: So it was always that the.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Even though coming from Atlanta, cause Atlanta has like uh yu,
- 7:52Speaker 1: black people in almost every seat, you still felt like
- 7:56Speaker 1: that was the only thing you really saw.
- 8:00Speaker 2: It's not that it's the only thing. It's just the
- 8:02Speaker 2: simple thing that you gravitate to, you know what I mean.
- 8:05Speaker 2: And and yes, big shout out to you for knowing
- 8:08Speaker 2: that Atlanta has always been a chocolate city, you know
- 8:11Speaker 2: what I mean. And we've in comparison that I do
- 8:14Speaker 2: now that I've lived all over the country and been
- 8:16Speaker 2: in other cities, and it's such a blessing and a privilege,
- 8:20Speaker 2: and anybody from Atlanta, I definitely tell you, there's just
- 8:22Speaker 2: to be raised in Atlanta, you know what I mean,
- 8:25Speaker 2: to be able to have the culture like you just
- 8:26Speaker 2: spoke of, or being able to see so many black
- 8:30Speaker 2: people doing different things. You know what I mean? We
- 8:33Speaker 2: h we have that in Atlanta. We always have had
- 8:36Speaker 2: a rich black culture and people like you just said,
- 8:39Speaker 2: professional blacks. We have that in Atlanta, but they're not
- 8:42Speaker 2: on TV.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll tell you who.
- 8:46Speaker 2: We will watch it on TV. You don't what I'm saying.
- 8:48Speaker 2: The sports and athletes. But no, we have that in Atlanta,
- 8:50Speaker 2: always have and like I said, to grow up with that.
- 8:54Speaker 2: And then when you come you meet people from different walks,
- 8:56Speaker 2: different cities. Like one of my friends is that's you know,
- 8:59Speaker 2: the homie now and he's from Kansas, you know what
- 9:03Speaker 2: I mean. And he we, you know, sit down and
- 9:05Speaker 2: do these talks different panels, and he was always just
- 9:09Speaker 2: the only black person in his class and this and
- 9:13Speaker 2: that he's surrounded by white people. He's the token black
- 9:17Speaker 2: you know, to use to use those air quotes. Yeah,
- 9:21Speaker 2: but you know what I'm saying, and a and and
- 9:24Speaker 2: then we chopped it up and was like damn. You know,
- 9:26Speaker 2: then you get to talking to people from Atlanta, it's
- 9:28Speaker 2: the opposite where you didn't see a white person like
- 9:32Speaker 2: that until you were fifth maybe in the fifth grade
- 9:36Speaker 2: or middle school or whatever. Like you, we weren't around
- 9:39Speaker 2: white people. We were raised around a black community, you
- 9:44Speaker 2: know what I mean. So, and just to come up
- 9:46Speaker 2: that way with the rich culture from Atlanta, it's a
- 9:50Speaker 2: blessing man to know that as a black man, you
- 9:55Speaker 2: can do more because you've seen it. Yeah, and that
- 9:59Speaker 2: and I feel like that's some of the mentality and
- 10:02Speaker 2: some of the energy that's installed in a lot of
- 10:05Speaker 2: people from Atlanta. Why so many successful Atlanta people are doing.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It now You've lived in every city you mentioned earlier,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and you're now in the entertainment business. Could you potentially
- 10:18Speaker 1: seeing it being a you have your friend from Kansas
- 10:22Speaker 1: who is surrounded by all whites, then you you know,
- 10:26Speaker 1: prior to Tyler Perry and some of these black names
- 10:28Speaker 1: really pushing forward with black production, I would say the
- 10:35Speaker 1: industry was not predominantly ran by black people. Could you
- 10:38Speaker 1: see it? Could you see that potentially hurting someone that
- 10:44Speaker 1: comes from Atlanta that's not privy to that many other
- 10:48Speaker 1: races doing.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Things as I butter your toast, thank you literally yeah,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I mean in saying you brought up Tyler Perry. Big
- 10:58Speaker 2: shout outs to the big boss, Tyler Perry. That's one
- 11:04Speaker 2: of the main reasons that I'm into the industry now because,
- 11:08Speaker 2: like I said, he did everything that he did within
- 11:11Speaker 2: Atlanta after I stopped playing ball and going through that transition.
- 11:19Speaker 2: That's how I randomly fell into acting. You know, if
- 11:23Speaker 2: I would have stayed in any other other cities, if
- 11:25Speaker 2: I would stayed in Florida, Miami, where I was living,
- 11:28Speaker 2: if I would have stayed in Charlotte, where I was
- 11:29Speaker 2: playing ball at one point living there, I wouldn't be
- 11:33Speaker 2: doing this now because I moved back to Atlanta and
- 11:36Speaker 2: Atlanta was popping with the film industry, and Tyler Perry
- 11:39Speaker 2: was taking off of what he was doing, and Atlanta
- 11:41Speaker 2: was becoming the Hollywood of the South because those Avenues
- 11:46Speaker 2: was there. That's how I randomly fell into this shit.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Now, before we get into the random randomly fell into acting,
- 11:56Speaker 1: I wanna go back to you aspiring to be a
- 12:00Speaker 1: professional athlete, your householder, upbringing, two parent household, single mom.
- 12:04Speaker 1: I wanna know the whole scoop, rich, poor, middle class O.
- 12:08Speaker 2: What's sure?
- 12:09Speaker 1: Go ahead?
- 12:10Speaker 2: Oh no, it's like that. No. I I I come
- 12:13Speaker 2: from a two parent household. My mother and father are
- 12:18Speaker 2: still married, I love that happily in love to this day.
- 12:22Speaker 2: They've been married for fifty years. Fifty years, fifty years.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Now, when do you do you have a a ideal?
- 12:30Speaker 1: Uh uh, a positive outlook on love because you've seen that,
- 12:32Speaker 1: oh big time.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Like I said, so, I'm the youngest of three boys,
- 12:38Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, And I'm just a old soul.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Everybody that meets me will say that because I'm raised
- 12:44Speaker 2: by the elders. I got older brothers, older cousins, older uncles,
- 12:49Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, and just all that. So
- 12:51Speaker 2: everything that I have, I went through it with them.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I saw them doing it. I'm watching them doing it.
- 12:56Speaker 2: I'm watching my older brother bring girls home. You know
- 13:00Speaker 2: what I'm saying, at a early age. So these things
- 13:04Speaker 2: impact you or whatever. But like I said, I'm raised
- 13:08Speaker 2: by men. I come from a boy family. We have
- 13:12Speaker 2: Like I said, I don't have a sister. You know,
- 13:14Speaker 2: I had one cousin. My eldest cousin was a girl.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Rest boys like twenty twenty twenty boy.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Cousins, okay, and then middle class poor.
- 13:25Speaker 2: No, nobody's rich. There's no such thing. Yeah, two parent household,
- 13:31Speaker 2: mother and father, you know, doing their thing. No, you
- 13:34Speaker 2: know what I mean? Middle class? Uh?
- 13:36Speaker 1: And what did they do mit?
- 13:37Speaker 2: Middle class? Meaning whenever they if they did struggle, I
- 13:41Speaker 2: didn't know it. Okay, they let us, they they they
- 13:44Speaker 2: made sure that we were good. Okay, you know what
- 13:46Speaker 2: I'm saying. So I can't attest to the people. You
- 13:51Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, even though I saw it, and
- 13:53Speaker 2: growing up more and being around more, you see it
- 13:56Speaker 2: and understand it. But no, my mother and father never
- 14:00Speaker 2: let us go without. So we never did the whole
- 14:02Speaker 2: thing of oh, y'all gonna eat air breakfast tonight, I
- 14:06Speaker 2: mean for dinner. Yeah, you're eating air in water.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And you never caught wind of anything. Okay, that's that's great.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Now are you the first? Are you the first and
- 14:16Speaker 1: only professional athlete in your family? Because it sounds like
- 14:18Speaker 1: you got a lot of men.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Come from a sport family. Like I said, we did that,
- 14:22Speaker 2: and that's the whole thing. Sports is always there within
- 14:26Speaker 2: the family and within community. But that's the thing. You
- 14:30Speaker 2: have to survive the community before you can be a
- 14:36Speaker 2: professional anything. You know, you have to survive the streets.
- 14:40Speaker 2: You have to survive the allure of the stereotypical things
- 14:44Speaker 2: that black men go through being raised in the hood
- 14:47Speaker 2: or not in the hood.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Like what for example, just whatever.
- 14:50Speaker 2: No. So, like some of the people that were supposed
- 14:52Speaker 2: to make it to the NFL, the NBA, and they
- 14:54Speaker 2: didn't because they didn't survive the streets. Some of the
- 14:58Speaker 2: best football players in basketball players that I know dropped
- 15:02Speaker 2: out of high school because the streets got 'em. Yeah,
- 15:07Speaker 2: you know, they didn't stay down and like you said,
- 15:12Speaker 2: or have two parents taking care of them like I did. So, yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 2: they selling crack or they doing whatever or e x
- 15:20Speaker 2: y Z. They don't have time to chase the allure
- 15:23Speaker 2: of the dream. Yeah, I need money right now. So
- 15:28Speaker 2: it's like that, and all of that happens. And even
- 15:32Speaker 2: when you come from a situation like mine, you still
- 15:35Speaker 2: can get caught up. Like I said, my oldest you know,
- 15:38Speaker 2: not to glorify that, but that's what my older brothers
- 15:44Speaker 2: and uncles did. Yeah, they they were in the streets.
- 15:50Speaker 2: So the allure for that was always there for me.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I had a VIP access to the street life if
- 15:58Speaker 2: that's what I wanted, you know what I mean, Even
- 16:00Speaker 2: though they wouldn't advocate it for me, it was still there.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I chose I had to make those choices. I chose
- 16:09Speaker 2: not to be the stereotypical street guy, and in a
- 16:15Speaker 2: victim to that situation, I knew that I could do
- 16:18Speaker 2: more and was capable of more because I watch all
- 16:21Speaker 2: them and seen when they ane did. And I've seen
- 16:23Speaker 2: people get shot, not not, you.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Know, I mean, yeah, you see, you've seen.
- 16:28Speaker 2: You've seen I've seen the the the the the other
- 16:31Speaker 2: side of the sword, like I said, growing up around
- 16:36Speaker 2: that and being raised by the others, you see it. Yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 2: so you see when it falls apart. You see people
- 16:41Speaker 2: get killed, you see people go to jail. You see people,
- 16:45Speaker 2: like I said, in the street chasing things that have
- 16:47Speaker 2: in this and they fall all the way off the
- 16:50Speaker 2: other side of what can happen. So No, even though
- 16:53Speaker 2: that was there for me and I coulda would have
- 16:57Speaker 2: done all that and had those instant I chose not to.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Even though it was always there, And it's always tempting
- 17:04Speaker 2: because like you said, you doing something else and you
- 17:07Speaker 2: going without. You're playing football, you're not getting paid, you're
- 17:10Speaker 2: going to school, you're not getting paid. Your homiees pulling
- 17:14Speaker 2: up in the damn bens.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw a football documentary. I want to say
- 17:20Speaker 1: a year or two years ago on Netflix, and it
- 17:22Speaker 1: talked about like what football athletes go through and all that.
- 17:26Speaker 1: And then even if even if you beat the odds
- 17:28Speaker 1: of turning down sex, drugs, and alcohol before making it,
- 17:32Speaker 1: once you make it, those vices come ten I would
- 17:36Speaker 1: imagine ten times harder because now you.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Have you see I putted it as it and it
- 17:41Speaker 2: looks so good.
- 17:42Speaker 1: You know, you're making two sandwiches.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Right but this was yours. It gets mine after you.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Oh I love that. I'm gonna judge his breakfast. But
- 17:51Speaker 1: right now it looks good. It looks like he knows
- 17:52Speaker 1: what he's doing. Guys, So after you make it, I
- 17:56Speaker 1: would imagine the vices come harder for you. Right, So
- 17:59Speaker 1: now you're dealing with in or or you know whatever, just.
- 18:02Speaker 2: All of that. I mean, of course those things are there, so,
- 18:05Speaker 2: like you said, going through those struggles or whatever. So
- 18:07Speaker 2: if you're you don't just become a s a star.
- 18:11Speaker 2: So if you have the potential to go to the
- 18:13Speaker 2: NFL and all this stuff, nine times of the ten
- 18:15Speaker 2: you're the man on campus in high school. You know
- 18:18Speaker 2: it's still there, the lord of those things that they're
- 18:21Speaker 2: people showing you favoritism and more attention and X y Z.
- 18:25Speaker 2: But yeah, No, it's different when you get to the
- 18:28Speaker 2: league and now you're famous and you have a million
- 18:31Speaker 2: dollars at your disposal. Yeah, and you went from just
- 18:34Speaker 2: having a high school sweetheart or two of people and
- 18:36Speaker 2: now you got ten girls, Yeah, trying to throw themselves
- 18:43Speaker 2: at you every damn day. Yeah, it's like that. It's
- 18:45Speaker 2: a struggle and a lot of people don't survive it.
- 18:51Speaker 2: It just is what it is. The men, the mentality, cause, like,
- 18:53Speaker 2: think about it, so many people hit the NFL or
- 18:56Speaker 2: NBA or whatever become you know, hit the league, and
- 18:58Speaker 2: you like, man, he was so good in college or
- 19:00Speaker 2: he was so isn't that why he didn't or he
- 19:02Speaker 2: was the man? Why he didn't pan out? Because you
- 19:04Speaker 2: lose the focus once you it's hard to stay focused
- 19:08Speaker 2: and do everything that you have been doing to get
- 19:11Speaker 2: to this point. Now you like, oh, I'm here, I
- 19:14Speaker 2: made it, I got paid. Now I can relax a
- 19:17Speaker 2: little bit. Did you go that sh when you fall off?
- 19:20Speaker 1: But did you relax a little bit?
- 19:21Speaker 2: Na? Oh, it's not. Everybody's walk is different. Mine ain't
- 19:24Speaker 2: the same.
- 19:25Speaker 1: But that's what I'm trying to find out. What was
- 19:27Speaker 1: your walk like.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Oh see, Like I said, I was in high school,
- 19:33Speaker 2: I was in trouble because the street stuff was there.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I I I didn't. I played football all my life,
- 19:41Speaker 2: always been good. Like I said, y, this is what
- 19:43Speaker 2: we do. But I didn't. It's not that I didn't
- 19:46Speaker 2: take it serious. It's just what we used to do.
- 19:51Speaker 2: And I made my situation harder for me. I didn't
- 19:53Speaker 2: go to a major school because, like I said, I
- 19:56Speaker 2: was in trouble. My coach was telling people that I
- 19:59Speaker 2: wasn't you know, people go say, you know, call him
- 20:02Speaker 2: a hater or whatever, but he was telling people that
- 20:04Speaker 2: I wasn't college material and that type deal. So I didn't.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I didn't go to major school. I went to black college.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I went to Morris Brown in Atlanta. That was a
- 20:14Speaker 2: black college. It's you know, one of the historical HBCUs
- 20:17Speaker 2: in Atlanta. They lost their accreditation and they you know,
- 20:21Speaker 2: in the football team when I f when when I
- 20:23Speaker 2: first got there. So I went there, and then I
- 20:25Speaker 2: transferred to other schools and getting kicked out of other schools,
- 20:30Speaker 2: you know, trying to find my way, and I ended
- 20:33Speaker 2: up in Alabama. Ended up in Alabama, and I was
- 20:36Speaker 2: supposed to try to get a situation going on at
- 20:39Speaker 2: the University of Alabama. This was before Nick Saban got there,
- 20:43Speaker 2: but in all their glory, but whatever, that didn't, that
- 20:47Speaker 2: didn't pan out, and I had to try and I
- 20:49Speaker 2: went to the black college across the street in Tuscaloosa.
- 20:53Speaker 2: It's called Stillman Still in College and a lot of
- 20:56Speaker 2: people have never heard of it. Still in College and
- 20:59Speaker 2: tuscal loose I Alabama, hbc U. Shout out to all
- 21:02Speaker 2: the steel Nights out there, the Steelman Tigers. Yep. So
- 21:06Speaker 2: and when you do that and you go to a smaller.
- 21:08Speaker 1: School, I feel like this is gonna end up burning
- 21:17Speaker 1: that bread.
- 21:18Speaker 2: That's cheese. Cheese. Don't don't you get over here knocking.
- 21:23Speaker 2: What's going on over here? It's not burnt.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Look look at the bread that's Look at the other
- 21:29Speaker 1: side melted. Look at the other side, the other side,
- 21:35Speaker 1: he perfectly not show.
- 21:38Speaker 2: You're a gas lighter, look like on the stove.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Okay, so you're you end up making it to the
- 21:46Speaker 1: NFL right to becoming a professional athlete, right, tell me
- 21:53Speaker 1: about that right before transition. How you get the phone call,
- 21:58Speaker 1: what you're thinking, what that process is.
- 22:00Speaker 2: It's not like that. It d it doesn't happen like that,
- 22:06Speaker 2: Like I said, that's no what I'm saying. So, like
- 22:08Speaker 2: I said, it's levels to everything, y'all, y'all are taking
- 22:11Speaker 2: it from you. You you speaking on the level of
- 22:13Speaker 2: the stuff that you see on TV. Yeah, when you
- 22:15Speaker 2: see the people, oh here comes the call you getting drafted.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 22:18Speaker 2: From that's not how it happens too. Like I said,
- 22:21Speaker 2: I I'm coming from black college. Okay, black college players
- 22:26Speaker 2: aren't treated with the same you know, just the allure
- 22:29Speaker 2: those from major schools from Alabama, Florida, the big schools,
- 22:33Speaker 2: D one schools. You know what I'm saying. It's no
- 22:36Speaker 2: pageantry to it like that. You know what I'm saying.
- 22:39Speaker 2: You don't get drafted. You have to go through another process.
- 22:42Speaker 2: That what I'm saying. They have different tryouts and different
- 22:45Speaker 2: things like that. So when they have the other combines
- 22:48Speaker 2: and the other tryouts and I go there and I perform, well,
- 22:51Speaker 2: then they say you're invited to come like to camp.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Oh okay, there's no there's no And you know what
- 22:58Speaker 2: I'm saying. Some players get it, like you said, the
- 23:00Speaker 2: calls and stuff like, but that's when they're super on
- 23:05Speaker 2: you know, a level of you know, being elite, and
- 23:07Speaker 2: they acknowledged this that and they like, oh we want
- 23:09Speaker 2: this guy, so they risk a draft pick, no anybody else.
- 23:12Speaker 2: You gotta go through those channels. You gotta walk still
- 23:15Speaker 2: like walk on mm. And that's what I had to do.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I had to go through these things and trying to
- 23:19Speaker 2: earn a spot on these teams. And that's what it
- 23:23Speaker 2: always was. They're like, you're good enough, we see you,
- 23:26Speaker 2: but I got other guys in front of you. It's
- 23:31Speaker 2: like corporate. Yeah, this guy graduated from Yale. Yeah you
- 23:35Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. He gets a shot before you
- 23:37Speaker 2: get a shot. Black man, yeah, or whoever you it's
- 23:40Speaker 2: the same thing. So like yeah, you good, but you
- 23:43Speaker 2: have to wait. I gotta let this guy, this guy,
- 23:45Speaker 2: this guy go before you.
- 23:46Speaker 1: So like this side that we all would never see
- 23:50Speaker 1: or predict.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Oh, it's it's it's it's business, yeah, regardless about it
- 23:57Speaker 2: being sport. And if you know you good enough, you
- 24:00Speaker 2: get the reward. But still if you don't comfor go
- 24:05Speaker 2: through those type of situations, it's different. No, we got you.
- 24:10Speaker 2: It's different. Like you said, you have to you still
- 24:12Speaker 2: gotta go through the channels. You still have to go
- 24:14Speaker 2: through the politics. You still have to do all that.
- 24:17Speaker 2: And that's the side that nobody sees, that nobody talks about.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And like you said, you like, man, I just wanna
- 24:23Speaker 2: play ball. I'm a kid. I just wanna play ball.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I just wanna l live my dream. And nine times
- 24:30Speaker 2: out of ten it doesn't happen.
- 24:32Speaker 1: When you were doing football, did you feel like you
- 24:35Speaker 1: had arrived your you're You're it? This is it for you?
- 24:39Speaker 2: No? I mean because it was always that. I was
- 24:44Speaker 2: never like a in a in a place of comfort
- 24:47Speaker 2: like yeah I made it. Yeah, y No, every day
- 24:51Speaker 2: is like you about to get fired. Every day, You
- 24:54Speaker 2: about to get cut. Every day, you about to get
- 24:56Speaker 2: released every day. You gotta you worrying about what's next.
- 24:59Speaker 2: So that that's the journey for me and the people
- 25:03Speaker 2: that go through the struggle like I did. It ain't
- 25:06Speaker 2: it's not glamorous. There's no there's no there's no glamour
- 25:09Speaker 2: side of it. Like and this is organic bacon, definitely,
- 25:14Speaker 2: isn't it is?
- 25:15Speaker 1: This is like five dollars at it's organic foo less.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Yeah, struggle baby, struggle plates struggle bacon. But yeah, no,
- 25:29Speaker 2: the route like you said all that. No, it's not
- 25:31Speaker 2: glamoring because you waiting and with anything, your future is
- 25:37Speaker 2: in the hands of someone else. Yeah, regardless about your
- 25:41Speaker 2: performance as a as an athlete or whatever, it's still
- 25:44Speaker 2: on somebody else to say, let's give this kid a shot,
- 25:49Speaker 2: Let's give this kid a chance, and if that doesn't happen,
- 25:52Speaker 2: it's a rap. And that happens more times than not. Right,
- 25:58Speaker 2: you understand so old, you're good enough to be somewhere,
- 26:04Speaker 2: but you're not gonna get the opportunity because of the system. Yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 2: you know, just like corporate or whatever. So but the
- 26:14Speaker 2: only thing with that sports the time is your window
- 26:20Speaker 2: of opportunity, and time is this small, you know what
- 26:23Speaker 2: I mean. It's a young man's game. You need to
- 26:27Speaker 2: be able to produce now, and if you can't, it's
- 26:32Speaker 2: a rap. And then after that it's like this. You
- 26:37Speaker 2: been doing something for so long, right, Like you said,
- 26:40Speaker 2: I've been playing football since I was five years old,
- 26:42Speaker 2: been playing it forever. People have been chasing this drinks
- 26:44Speaker 2: since there was a kid, and just like that it's old.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Somebody say, nah, you good, We don't want you no more,
- 26:52Speaker 2: we don't want you. Know, you're not good enough. To
- 26:54Speaker 2: go to like after high school, they say you're not
- 26:56Speaker 2: good enough to play at the college level. It's a rap.
- 26:59Speaker 2: You're not playing football ever again. Or then when you're
- 27:03Speaker 2: done with college, you're not good enough to go to
- 27:05Speaker 2: the professional level, and it's a wrap. You will never
- 27:09Speaker 2: put it. You'll never put that helmet on again. You'll
- 27:12Speaker 2: never put those pads on again. See like basketball, you
- 27:15Speaker 2: can go to LA Fitness and still dribble and cross
- 27:18Speaker 2: Monbuger's over and shoot Steph Curry three's or dunk on
- 27:21Speaker 2: people to get your basketball fixed. Football you will never
- 27:27Speaker 2: feel that.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Why is that because there's no like place where you
- 27:31Speaker 1: can actually do it right?
- 27:32Speaker 2: What about well, I guess you can't listen you can now,
- 27:36Speaker 2: Like it's leagues that they have where they have thirty
- 27:39Speaker 2: in up football and you're out there. These people are out.
- 27:44Speaker 2: No smoke to anybody that does that. I'm not talking
- 27:47Speaker 2: about you. You know what I'm saying. Don't take this
- 27:49Speaker 2: the wrong way. But it's people, like I said, still
- 27:52Speaker 2: chasing the dream, chasing those skills. But if you out
- 27:54Speaker 2: there playing football at thirty five and actually bang bang
- 27:58Speaker 2: banging your nuts, you could die. Yeah, break your leg.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I was gonna sayfering.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Not getting paid.
- 28:08Speaker 1: No, I'm saying, for like even the professional athletes, that's
- 28:11Speaker 1: not enough money.
- 28:14Speaker 2: For the professionals. That's why they get paid what they
- 28:17Speaker 2: get paid. You're risking it for the biscuit. And that's
- 28:19Speaker 2: why we're talking about people from poverished situations. They're like,
- 28:24Speaker 2: this is my chance, this is my opportunity, this is
- 28:27Speaker 2: what else am I gonna do? What else am I
- 28:29Speaker 2: going to do that's gonna generate this type opportunity. So
- 28:32Speaker 2: you risk it, You risk breaking your leg, you risk
- 28:34Speaker 2: getting concussions. And that's what's going on now. Like I said,
- 28:38Speaker 2: we're talking to eydsight CTE. You know what I'm saying,
- 28:41Speaker 2: from people banging their heads and getting concussions all the time.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I'm blessed enough that I got out of it unscared,
- 28:48Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. I'm still here, I'm still
- 28:50Speaker 2: doing my thing, still feeling good, looking good, no smoke.
- 28:53Speaker 2: But my friends, my colleagues, I got so many dudes,
- 28:57Speaker 2: like one of my one of my bros, that I
- 28:58Speaker 2: knew he has like early on site dementia. You know
- 29:04Speaker 2: what I'm saying, early stages of dementia from playing ball,
- 29:08Speaker 2: banging so much. My other guy's knees is bad. They
- 29:11Speaker 2: backs are bad. They can't you know what I'm saying,
- 29:14Speaker 2: take some how much of a time to get up
- 29:16Speaker 2: out of the bed. Like I said, these are the
- 29:18Speaker 2: war stories from you know, just sports and stuff that
- 29:22Speaker 2: you don't hear, you know when you when you aid
- 29:25Speaker 2: your hands listen. I told you I'm from Atlanta. I'm
- 29:30Speaker 2: a real man. I'm a real man. Okay, not not
- 29:35Speaker 2: no smoke took people that aren't real men. But I'm
- 29:38Speaker 2: a Southern gentleman and a real man. So if you
- 29:43Speaker 2: go get in here and make a struggle play, you
- 29:45Speaker 2: go get in here and struggle with it.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I love that you know how to cook, even though
- 29:48Speaker 1: it seems like the potatoes are turned out very low.
- 29:51Speaker 2: No, they they's just the potatoes are on a slow burn.
- 29:55Speaker 1: This was I'm gonna let you cook.
- 29:57Speaker 2: You say, let that man.
- 30:00Speaker 1: It would be like a two hour breakfast.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Wait no, if if this wasn't for camera, it would
- 30:06Speaker 2: have been a fastest situation. Really yeah, we doing we
- 30:10Speaker 2: spacing it out, talking it out. Who you know? For you?
- 30:14Speaker 1: Thank you bro? So okay, so take me into your
- 30:18Speaker 1: a you and you end up believing professional football.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Yeah, because like I said, I'm doing all that. I'm
- 30:25Speaker 2: doing the struggle, going through it, and then people telling
- 30:31Speaker 2: you you're not good enough. No, it's like that. So
- 30:33Speaker 2: that's the NFL. And then they say, yeah, we see you,
- 30:36Speaker 2: you good, We we rock with you, we fuck with you,
- 30:39Speaker 2: but we can't put you on a team. So go
- 30:41Speaker 2: over here to the minor league or the other league,
- 30:45Speaker 2: or the or the Arena football league, the leagues that's attached,
- 30:48Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So I I did all that,
- 30:51Speaker 2: Go over here, get some you know, some good game footage.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Game real, that's what it's called. Go get it, Go
- 30:58Speaker 2: get some more touchdowns and come back and see us
- 31:01Speaker 2: type shit. But whatever, I my body was so banged up.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I got injured. And that's the other thing, like you said,
- 31:07Speaker 2: the comparison to corporate and the time and the window
- 31:10Speaker 2: being short, my n my my ankles is banged up. There,
- 31:15Speaker 2: I knee surgery, all this type of stuff. I didn't
- 31:17Speaker 2: rehab well. So instead of keep doing the the game,
- 31:21Speaker 2: the gambit that I was doing, I was like, maybe
- 31:23Speaker 2: it's time for me to hang it up. And then
- 31:26Speaker 2: afterwards you you quit, like I said, it's something that
- 31:29Speaker 2: you've done your entire life. You quit and you're done,
- 31:34Speaker 2: but then afterward you have the remorse you like and
- 31:37Speaker 2: the internal conflict. You're like, man, I can still go.
- 31:41Speaker 2: I gave up too quick. I still got some in
- 31:44Speaker 2: the tank, you know what I'm saying. So you have
- 31:46Speaker 2: that where you beating yourself up, and a lot of people,
- 31:52Speaker 2: like I said, when it's done, it's done, And a
- 31:54Speaker 2: lot of athletes, if you don't find something to replace
- 31:58Speaker 2: the sport, the void. Like I said, you're an athlete,
- 32:00Speaker 2: you're a professional athlete, or you've been doing sports your
- 32:02Speaker 2: whole life. If you don't find something to replace it,
- 32:06Speaker 2: you know, it can really fuck you up. And a
- 32:08Speaker 2: lot of people have PTSD from that, you know what
- 32:11Speaker 2: I mean, from sports and not panning out and not
- 32:15Speaker 2: finding something else after life after sport, life.
- 32:19Speaker 1: At PTSD from it, Yes, is it because you're going
- 32:23Speaker 1: through that battle of whether you gave up too soon and.
- 32:25Speaker 2: No, just all of it, life after sport, life after
- 32:28Speaker 2: the trauma from doing everything something you gave your life
- 32:32Speaker 2: to and then you didn't succeed. So, like I said, imagine,
- 32:36Speaker 2: if you imagine you're the man from the small town Oh, Jimbo,
- 32:40Speaker 2: he's the man. Jimbo made it to the NFL and
- 32:44Speaker 2: then after two seasons, Jimbo's back in Yeah Bumfuckville. They're like,
- 32:49Speaker 2: what are you doing here, Jimbo? You supposed to be
- 32:52Speaker 2: on TV?
- 32:53Speaker 1: That's tough.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Whoa Jimbo? You're a failure? Yeah, Jimbo, you sell tires.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Now do you understand the transition? What do you do
- 33:03Speaker 2: after the failure? And you are in the public eye
- 33:08Speaker 2: of so many people because you were a star and yeah, yeah, Now.
- 33:14Speaker 1: How did you go through that transition? How long was
- 33:16Speaker 1: that transitional period for you?
- 33:17Speaker 2: Like I said, it was me I, Like I said,
- 33:20Speaker 2: you have the internal conflict of like, damn, maybe I
- 33:23Speaker 2: still should go play some more. And a lot of
- 33:26Speaker 2: people that's what they do. I had a lot of
- 33:27Speaker 2: friends kept trying to get in the league or get
- 33:31Speaker 2: back to the league. Today was thirty and forty years old.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Like I said, it's a rap. Football is a sports.
- 33:39Speaker 2: That's what NFL stands for. Not for long, you did that.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Not for long. You're gonna be here, but you better
- 33:47Speaker 2: you better figure it out. Not for long. It's a
- 33:49Speaker 2: quick turnover. It's a young man's game. Did every every year,
- 33:53Speaker 2: there's a nine twenty year old person trying to take
- 33:58Speaker 2: your job. Yeah, every every every turnaround.
- 34:02Speaker 1: So did you go to therapy after?
- 34:05Speaker 2: You know, we come from the era where therapy wasn't.
- 34:10Speaker 2: I was about to say wasn't around. It's always been around.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Therapy wasn't. It was shonned upon.
- 34:17Speaker 1: So I tell you, so you skipped out on that.
- 34:19Speaker 2: No, th you th you have to have therapy within oneself,
- 34:23Speaker 2: you know, therapy within family, therapy within people who actually
- 34:29Speaker 2: care about you, people that you can actually talk to,
- 34:31Speaker 2: and things that you can actually do. Church was there
- 34:34Speaker 2: for a while, you know what I'm saying. We did
- 34:35Speaker 2: all that, But my thing was my therapy was producing,
- 34:41Speaker 2: as in generating, staying active work and getting things done.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Like I said, I had other business ventures from all
- 34:48Speaker 2: the people that I have connections and things I had
- 34:50Speaker 2: worked with.
- 34:51Speaker 1: So what did you do after football?
- 34:53Speaker 2: It's that, like I said, I have a business ventures.
- 34:55Speaker 2: There had other things going. I thought that my connection
- 34:58Speaker 2: to sport and football, thought I was gonna be a coach.
- 35:01Speaker 2: See and that's what a that's what a lot of
- 35:03Speaker 2: players do. You transition from ball, and that's why you
- 35:06Speaker 2: see him being commentators on TV or you get into coaching,
- 35:12Speaker 2: and that's what I thought I was gonna do. I'm like, cool,
- 35:14Speaker 2: I'm a coach. I'm'a be a you know it's done,
- 35:16Speaker 2: but i'm'a be a super coach. And that was a
- 35:20Speaker 2: shock within itself because it was so much harder than
- 35:25Speaker 2: I anticipated, and it was so demanding. M It was
- 35:29Speaker 2: twenty four to seven, none stop. And I was young.
- 35:33Speaker 2: I don't know, I was a twenty twenty six, twenty
- 35:35Speaker 2: seven U you know, young to me? You know what
- 35:38Speaker 2: I'm saying. That was young, And I was in charge
- 35:40Speaker 2: of a whole high school program. And I had a
- 35:43Speaker 2: lot of you know, the high school kids, yeah, looking
- 35:47Speaker 2: at me like I'm daddy y you know, pause, you know,
- 35:50Speaker 2: but you know what I'm saying, like the father figure
- 35:53Speaker 2: for all of the youth and this and that, and
- 35:54Speaker 2: it charged them responsible for them, responsible for the curriculum,
- 35:57Speaker 2: making sure they do this hundred kids. And I'm like,
- 36:01Speaker 2: I'm gonna fail. I'm not ready for this. I wasn't
- 36:03Speaker 2: mentally yeah prepared for that. Could I do it now
- 36:06Speaker 2: at the you know, the grown level of maturity and
- 36:09Speaker 2: everything that I'm at now? Yeah, And I could probably
- 36:11Speaker 2: be great at it. But at that time I had
- 36:14Speaker 2: to walk okay, cause I was finna I w I'm like,
- 36:17Speaker 2: I'm going to fail and I'm not about to set
- 36:19Speaker 2: myself up for failure. And they're like, you know how
- 36:21Speaker 2: many bridges you're gonna burn and then YadA YadA x
- 36:24Speaker 2: y Z and I'm like, it doesn't matter that I'm
- 36:27Speaker 2: gonna burn these bridges. I'm not about to crucify cause
- 36:30Speaker 2: I'm I'm like, I'm not. Yeah, I can't give the
- 36:33Speaker 2: dedication that this the term you know that it gonna require.
- 36:36Speaker 2: I'm still out here wanting to kick it with my
- 36:40Speaker 2: friends and have drinks and go to the bar and
- 36:44Speaker 2: do those free man things. I wasn't ready to dedicate
- 36:47Speaker 2: myself to this. Yeah, So, like I said, I walked
- 36:50Speaker 2: from that and after that, that's when I fell into
- 36:57Speaker 2: the acting.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Shure acting, So dr how do how did the acting
- 37:02Speaker 1: hold on? Pause for a second? We gotta get you
- 37:04Speaker 1: onto this mic?
- 37:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 37:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so I just want to speed.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Up to we're here to watch this. That's yearns.
- 37:14Speaker 1: That's a lot of bacon.
- 37:15Speaker 2: It's a sandwich?
- 37:18Speaker 1: Is that for me? I don't really eat bacon like that,
- 37:20Speaker 1: only like a little like.
- 37:22Speaker 2: I just gonna bite it. You don't got to eat
- 37:25Speaker 2: all of it. I'll eat the rest of it.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Okay, all right. So you keep saying that you fell
- 37:32Speaker 1: into acting, do.
- 37:33Speaker 2: You take you don't get like a picture of this.
- 37:37Speaker 1: It's on there. It should be, it should be recording.
- 37:43Speaker 2: This is glorious.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I love that you're Can I please do this to you?
- 37:47Speaker 2: Please do it for one that's ocasun.
- 37:57Speaker 1: It's like this the whole time he's like this. I'm
- 37:59Speaker 1: just saying like it's just like he's just doing whatever.
- 38:02Speaker 1: You can't hide this, but I had to because your
- 38:04Speaker 1: sandwich does look good.
- 38:04Speaker 2: But the reason that it happened because we got the
- 38:07Speaker 2: popping and talking and and I didn't.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I had to do it.
- 38:10Speaker 2: My timing was off and it got a little too.
- 38:13Speaker 2: It's smoky, it's mellanated.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Okay, okay, it's melanie. We just need we just need
- 38:18Speaker 1: you to feed us at some point, Blue, this is
- 38:20Speaker 1: going to be the longest breakfast ever. I can make
- 38:23Speaker 1: this breakfast in under fifteen minutes.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Okay, listen, let me all right, let me plate this.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Please please here with your.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Plate since you as long as y'all can see it,
- 38:37Speaker 2: the sandwich and the glory with at night fan, Let's
- 38:42Speaker 2: open it up right here.
- 38:45Speaker 1: You know, what would you tell to your younger self?
- 38:52Speaker 2: Look? Look, look at that?
- 38:53Speaker 1: Look Look, wow, it looks great.
- 38:57Speaker 2: You see that.
- 38:57Speaker 1: It looks great? That do it under that?
- 39:00Speaker 2: That right there? You see that. You see those levels,
- 39:03Speaker 2: those layers in there. That's that's from twenty plus years
- 39:08Speaker 2: of eating at the waffle house. You know what I'm saying.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Give me Come on, let's let's let's get back to
- 39:14Speaker 1: your story. Okay, tell me what would advice would you
- 39:18Speaker 1: give to someone prior to you falling into acting?
- 39:23Speaker 2: All right, let's get into it and turn these potatoes
- 39:26Speaker 2: down here.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Put potatoes on our plates. Please, potatoes on the plates,
- 39:32Speaker 1: the top one.
- 39:36Speaker 2: You're good in the kitchen, Hey man, I told you
- 39:39Speaker 2: I was a guy. You know, a real man, and
- 39:46Speaker 2: a real man has to know how to feed himself.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Oh you know what we should have put it in
- 39:51Speaker 1: the Yeah, okay, I'm gonna use this. That's good.
- 39:56Speaker 2: You're gonna blot your potatoes.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. The sandwich looks good. It looks restaurant quality.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Boom, I'll take that. Okay, struggle meal.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Hm, you need one of these.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Grease is good for you. Mm hmm. I told you
- 40:20Speaker 2: were from the South. We raised, we raised on grease.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Yeah right, okay, here we go. Let's try your sandwich.
- 40:28Speaker 2: You want me to try to eat it? Yeah, I
- 40:31Speaker 2: know it's awesome. What whoa turn that around? Show them it.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Looks like a gourmet sandwich, guys, Gormet.
- 40:44Speaker 2: It's a great sandwich because it's not a sandwich. Damn
- 40:49Speaker 2: bad dammich.
- 40:51Speaker 1: The bacon tastes so good. I will say this. I
- 40:56Speaker 1: love the way you handled your cheese, right, I love bacon.
- 41:01Speaker 2: And you tried to smoke me out. You tried to
- 41:03Speaker 2: act like I burned.
- 41:03Speaker 1: That egg was very hard.
- 41:05Speaker 2: It was great. I didn't burn like I said. I'm
- 41:08Speaker 2: not to my own horn or nothing. But I told you,
- 41:13Speaker 2: real man, real men know how to cook.
- 41:16Speaker 1: This is a great sandwich. Great job.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Make sure you let these people know because and you
- 41:23Speaker 2: make sure you let them know that you're not capping too.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Oh they know.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I won't. And I'm not, like I said, I'm not bragadocious.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I'm not being a jerk. But I told you you did.
- 41:36Speaker 1: You did. I love your confidence, and you did a
- 41:38Speaker 1: great sandwich. You didn't try your own sandwich, did you
- 41:40Speaker 1: take a bite of it.
- 41:41Speaker 2: I was on you. I know it's hitting. This is
- 41:44Speaker 2: my own.
- 41:45Speaker 1: It tastes good. Huh. Yeah, you didn't put mail on it.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Well that was for me.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I don't have to put mail on up.
- 41:56Speaker 1: It tastes great.
- 41:57Speaker 2: You didn't need it, you know what I'm saying. Because
- 41:58Speaker 2: it's it's season to toast it up to profession. The
- 42:02Speaker 2: bacon is what gives it the flavor.
- 42:03Speaker 1: But you did a great job on the potatoes. Amazing texture.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Yo, I'm in here getting gassed up.
- 42:10Speaker 1: You did great. Honestly, you did really great. I'm very impressed.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Lighting here is real, man. I might hey, I might
- 42:16Speaker 2: have to open up a little spot man, a little
- 42:20Speaker 2: blue Gordon.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Ramsley, what advice would you give to your younger self looking.
- 42:24Speaker 2: At this is supposed to have jelly on it too.
- 42:27Speaker 1: You know, I just want to side note. I'm not
- 42:29Speaker 1: trying to derail us, but I just got this. I've
- 42:32Speaker 1: been into like making gourmet sandwiches at home. I call
- 42:35Speaker 1: it gormet. But I bought pepper jelly.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Pepper jam, pepper jam, jelly pepper jam.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Oh you know about that. I'm in here, man, all right,
- 42:45Speaker 1: But let me just tell you something. Sandwiches they're like
- 42:49Speaker 1: so good, like everyone who tries them, they're like, yo,
- 42:51Speaker 1: you could charge for it.
- 42:53Speaker 2: So when are you gonna let us taste these sandwich.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna start making them and just show
- 42:57Speaker 1: people they're really good. But okay, and.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Don't try to steal my name either if you do,
- 43:00Speaker 2: I mean whatever, just show some love.
- 43:03Speaker 1: You're hilarious.
- 43:03Speaker 2: It's a samwich.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Samwich.
- 43:05Speaker 2: That's a M M I C H samwich.
- 43:08Speaker 1: I shouldn't even be eating this bacon.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Okay, So organic.
- 43:14Speaker 1: What advice looking back you going through that chapter of
- 43:17Speaker 1: battling yourself? What advice would you give to your younger
- 43:19Speaker 1: self in the heat of that battle of I should
- 43:25Speaker 1: I quit? You know? Am I doing the right thing?
- 43:27Speaker 1: Am I failure? What direction am I going? Is this
- 43:29Speaker 1: for me? Is that for me? You know? People saying
- 43:33Speaker 1: you could burn bridges if you go this way? This way? Like,
- 43:36Speaker 1: what advice would you give your your younger self looking
- 43:39Speaker 1: back at that chapter?
- 43:41Speaker 2: I mean, like I said, now, we're in hindsight. Everybody's right.
- 43:47Speaker 2: In hindsight, you know, you get to look back and say, ooh,
- 43:50Speaker 2: I told you so. But that's also the thing regardless
- 43:54Speaker 2: about the choices that you make, and not just me,
- 43:57Speaker 2: I'm saying anybody. When you're right, you're wrong, or whatever,
- 44:00Speaker 2: it's on you to make it to a point where
- 44:04Speaker 2: you can look back and say I told you so,
- 44:06Speaker 2: and not so definitely to rub it in people's faces,
- 44:09Speaker 2: but to make it right. When you make choices in
- 44:13Speaker 2: there wrong, it's on you to make it right. You know,
- 44:18Speaker 2: choice is always wrong. People always make bad decisions, but
- 44:23Speaker 2: it's on you to make your next decision and do
- 44:25Speaker 2: something else that's gonna say, yeah, that was bad and
- 44:27Speaker 2: I messed up, but that prepared me for this. Do
- 44:31Speaker 2: you understand. So it's not over. It's never over. It's
- 44:35Speaker 2: on you just to make the next step or to
- 44:37Speaker 2: make your last false step the right one. Cause then
- 44:40Speaker 2: you to be like, oh, if I didn't make this
- 44:42Speaker 2: wrong step, or if I didn't make mess up here,
- 44:45Speaker 2: I would have never ended up here.
- 44:49Speaker 1: You keep saying that throughout this whole interview. You keep
- 44:51Speaker 1: saying like I fell into acting I fell into and
- 44:54Speaker 1: I want I wanna go over that.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I did because again I said, I am from Atlanta.
- 45:02Speaker 2: I am from Collie Park, Real, Atlanta, just like you
- 45:06Speaker 2: from Brooklyn or up top or wherever the real places
- 45:10Speaker 2: or whatever. Basically, and like I told you, no one
- 45:14Speaker 2: does this. No one did this in my family. No
- 45:18Speaker 2: one does this type of thing around. You know what
- 45:21Speaker 2: I'm saying. The streets are there, the other things are there,
- 45:26Speaker 2: Rappers are there, you know what I'm saying. Anything but
- 45:29Speaker 2: this So when like I, when I say I fell
- 45:32Speaker 2: into it, it's because it was never on my radar.
- 45:37Speaker 2: It's not like something like, yeah, I'm gonna do this
- 45:39Speaker 2: and then I'm a plan and get into acting. I
- 45:41Speaker 2: just fell into it. And when I say that, and
- 45:45Speaker 2: because then when I actually started doing it, I was
- 45:51Speaker 2: shunned upon. I was laughed at, I was joked at.
- 45:54Speaker 2: I was called a clown, an idiot. You know what
- 45:59Speaker 2: are you doing?
- 46:00Speaker 1: You know, people were saying into it.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, yes yes. Because at that time, like
- 46:08Speaker 2: I said, we're in twenty twenty five, now, this was
- 46:13Speaker 2: probably twenty twelve or so, you know what I'm saying.
- 46:17Speaker 2: When I when I first started, no one was doing that.
- 46:22Speaker 2: And like I said, where it progressed and got to
- 46:24Speaker 2: but the people around in my community and the people
- 46:30Speaker 2: that I dealt with, you know, you don't do this.
- 46:32Speaker 2: And when I fell into it. I say that because
- 46:35Speaker 2: there was a young lady that I was dealing with
- 46:37Speaker 2: at the time. She kept trying to get me to
- 46:39Speaker 2: go to acting class with her, and I'm like, do
- 46:43Speaker 2: that shit, M, I'm not suremar Moore. You know what
- 46:46Speaker 2: I'm saying. I'm not. She like, well, y, you know
- 46:49Speaker 2: cause mym like I said, body was on point cause
- 46:52Speaker 2: I had been playing ball, you know what I'm saying.
- 46:54Speaker 2: And people always used to be like, you should get
- 46:57Speaker 2: into acting and modeling. M. And I'm raised by the streets.
- 47:02Speaker 2: We don't do that. Yeah, don't let the light skin
- 47:05Speaker 2: shit fool you. I got into fights frequently because I
- 47:10Speaker 2: had to show you that I wasn't typical light skin man. Yeah,
- 47:15Speaker 2: don't play with me, don't try me, you know what
- 47:17Speaker 2: I'm saying. So that type of you know, stid, stereotypical
- 47:22Speaker 2: yeah situation. So we went to acting class. I mean,
- 47:25Speaker 2: she kept trying to get me to go, and she
- 47:27Speaker 2: tricked me and made me give her a ride. And
- 47:30Speaker 2: while I'm there at the acting class, her name is
- 47:33Speaker 2: Navanna Rose and it was called Real Actors Raw, Real
- 47:37Speaker 2: Actors Workshop, you know, in Atlanta, and she was like,
- 47:40Speaker 2: get up, No one sits an audit to my class.
- 47:42Speaker 2: If you gonna be here, you go perform. And I'm like, no, no, no,
- 47:45Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm just her ride and she like, na,
- 47:49Speaker 2: get your ass up, I'm dead ass, mister cool man. Okay,
- 47:52Speaker 2: you gotta come perform. And we go through the acting class,
- 47:55Speaker 2: the little seminar or whatever, had fun, you know whatever,
- 47:58Speaker 2: beginning to acting, and then afterwards she was like, come here.
- 48:02Speaker 2: She's like, how long have you been doing this? And
- 48:04Speaker 2: I'm like, I wasn't playing. I don't do this. I'm
- 48:07Speaker 2: not an actor. I'm not a I'm not mister pretty man. Yeah,
- 48:11Speaker 2: and she was like, oh wow, I thought you were
- 48:13Speaker 2: just blowing us off because you were past this level.
- 48:18Speaker 2: You were you were more seasoned mm within the craft.
- 48:22Speaker 2: And I'm like, nah, oh. She was like oh wow.
- 48:25Speaker 2: She was like, nigga, you tripping and you could be
- 48:28Speaker 2: really making a lot of money. And I'm like what
- 48:31Speaker 2: She was like, whatever it is. She was like, clearly
- 48:34Speaker 2: you got it. And I'm not saying this now to
- 48:37Speaker 2: make it. You know what I'm saying. I'm not trying
- 48:39Speaker 2: to come off arrogant with it. But that's what she
- 48:42Speaker 2: said to me at the time. And I'm like what
- 48:44Speaker 2: and she was like, you got the look, you got
- 48:47Speaker 2: the body, clearly you have the natural energy for this. Yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 2: And I'm like what is she getting at? But whatever?
- 48:55Speaker 2: So I'm like, well, fuck it, excuse my French? Can
- 48:58Speaker 2: we can we yeah, we can drop but f bahom
- 49:00Speaker 2: up in here. So yeah, I'm like, fuck it, I'll
- 49:02Speaker 2: come back next week. And I, like I said, and
- 49:05Speaker 2: cause there were other girls there, it was different, you know,
- 49:09Speaker 2: I'm like, alright, it's a joker, you know whatever, It
- 49:11Speaker 2: just something to do. And I just stayed with it.
- 49:15Speaker 2: And that little inclination is how I'm here with you today.
- 49:19Speaker 2: And how like I said, a joke and an accident
- 49:24Speaker 2: became my whole life.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Wow. Wow, Wow, you're getting emotional. You look like you're
- 49:33Speaker 1: getting emotional.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It's like that. Yeah, it's definitely.
- 49:40Speaker 1: So you started showing up to the workshops more.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Like yeah, no, that's what I'm saying. That's where it started.
- 49:47Speaker 2: And at that level. And you're talking about getting emotional
- 49:49Speaker 2: because you can't. Everything that you've done, all that you
- 49:57Speaker 2: went through, and now you hear and she's crazy. When
- 50:03Speaker 2: when when God steps in, you gotta be clairvoyant and
- 50:09Speaker 2: open enough to let him step in for you, you
- 50:12Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. And and it's crazy because it
- 50:18Speaker 2: if I hadn't have kept doing that, what would I
- 50:22Speaker 2: have done? What would I have done?
- 50:25Speaker 1: If you haven't been open?
- 50:27Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying, if I didn't stay with the
- 50:29Speaker 2: acting shit, yeah and end up here, where would I've been?
- 50:33Speaker 2: Where would I have done? We won't know that, but
- 50:36Speaker 2: I'm just saying, so many different opportunities. Was there and
- 50:40Speaker 2: smoke my homie that was selling dope that's dead now
- 50:45Speaker 2: yeah wow, But I've been selling dope man him and
- 50:50Speaker 2: fell into the stereotypical Atlanta shit.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:54Speaker 2: You know. So it's a level of you know what
- 50:59Speaker 2: I'm saying, survival remorse because we hear now and people
- 51:06Speaker 2: like oh Blue switched up on us. But that's the point.
- 51:14Speaker 2: You have to be able to switch. You have to
- 51:17Speaker 2: be able to pivot. You can't keep doing the same
- 51:20Speaker 2: things and expect different results. Can't keep kicking it with
- 51:26Speaker 2: the same people and expect different things to happen. You
- 51:30Speaker 2: have to want more. And like I'm up here with
- 51:37Speaker 2: emotional tears now thinking about it, cause I'm grown. I'm
- 51:40Speaker 2: grown now, I'm forty years old. I've cried more as
- 51:44Speaker 2: a forty year old man. Then I have my time
- 51:50Speaker 2: because I'm comfortable with it. Yeah, now to cause now
- 51:57Speaker 2: you can go back, like you said, h everybody's right
- 52:03Speaker 2: in hindsight, But now you can go back and look
- 52:06Speaker 2: at your choices and the times that you were supposed
- 52:12Speaker 2: to be in jail, the time that you was supposed
- 52:15Speaker 2: to you know, it blows me. Now I'm up here
- 52:25Speaker 2: looking looking like strength, no, looking crazy to somebody that like, man,
- 52:31Speaker 2: look at this, you'll be a crying But no, like
- 52:34Speaker 2: I said, I'm not opposed to it because I know
- 52:38Speaker 2: the struggle, I know the story, I know where I
- 52:41Speaker 2: came from. I know who didn't make it.
- 52:46Speaker 1: When you were doing the acting. At what point did
- 52:49Speaker 1: you go full time, one hundred percent into acting and
- 52:52Speaker 1: how much rhetoric was around you leading up to that point.
- 52:57Speaker 2: I wasn't trying to do that on here with you. Girl.
- 53:01Speaker 2: You put me in there, you put me in and
- 53:03Speaker 2: I went from frying you bacon to you having me
- 53:07Speaker 2: thinking about it. Like I said, a front not too long.
- 53:10Speaker 2: A friend of mine just passed last week, I mean
- 53:13Speaker 2: not last week, but what's today t Tuesday. Yeah, I
- 53:18Speaker 2: had this weekend, like I said a couple two days ago,
- 53:20Speaker 2: I mean this weekend. And like I said that, all
- 53:25Speaker 2: of that, it just puts you in a crazy mind
- 53:30Speaker 2: state because he's done, his his story is done, his
- 53:36Speaker 2: train is done. He's not gonna keep going no more.
- 53:40Speaker 2: And he was a part of my life even though
- 53:43Speaker 2: his life is done, and he was still a part
- 53:45Speaker 2: of my life. So, like I said, talking about me
- 53:49Speaker 2: and my blessings and my success and when I'm about
- 53:53Speaker 2: to go to tomorrow, fuck me up. I'm sorry.
- 54:00Speaker 1: No, I have to apologize.
- 54:03Speaker 2: I mean to get into that men ain't supposed to cry.
- 54:10Speaker 1: I hate that this stereotype has been like ingrained in
- 54:14Speaker 1: our in our generations, generation, generations, generation, because to me,
- 54:18Speaker 1: I think sometimes I think tears is like a sign
- 54:21Speaker 1: of like the healing process kind of sort of you know,
- 54:25Speaker 1: I mean to have to pivot, pivoting, I think pivoting is.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I think pivoting is one of the hardest things you
- 54:33Speaker 1: can do, is to know when it's to stop something
- 54:37Speaker 1: and start something new, and then all the self doubt
- 54:40Speaker 1: that creeps in, like you said, of giving up on something.
- 54:43Speaker 1: I think everyone.
- 54:44Speaker 2: That's people imagine if I were have listened to all
- 54:48Speaker 2: the people that said I was a clown? What is
- 54:51Speaker 2: you doing? You ain't know? You gon to be gay?
- 54:55Speaker 2: Actors are gay, you know what I'm saying. Just all
- 54:57Speaker 2: the things that you know, black people say, you know,
- 55:03Speaker 2: stereotypical stuff, Like I said, I went through all that,
- 55:05Speaker 2: you know what I mean, And it was.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You know, so he went through it. But it seems
- 55:11Speaker 1: like a lot of your pain comes from like and
- 55:13Speaker 1: I've never really used this term before, but like survival's remorse.
- 55:16Speaker 1: It's like, now you made it to the other side.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Is it like you have this guilt or something that
- 55:21Speaker 1: they didn't cross over with you.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Not about guilt. I'm not guilty because this is me.
- 55:28Speaker 2: This is my life. You live for you. Like I said,
- 55:31Speaker 2: this is my train, and I got a million more
- 55:35Speaker 2: stops to make. That particular person that was talking about
- 55:39Speaker 2: his train is done, no smoke to him, But I'm
- 55:43Speaker 2: not done. Yeah. I can't crash my train and burn
- 55:46Speaker 2: it out because his stopped.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I have to keep going. I keep generating, I keep reducing,
- 55:52Speaker 2: I keep doing my purpose, my cause, and within that
- 55:58Speaker 2: I get to celebrate any and every everybody else who
- 56:01Speaker 2: has been a part of my life. Yeah, I celebrate
- 56:04Speaker 2: you by me winning and by me being blessed and
- 56:07Speaker 2: meet me having these opportunities. So I don't take none
- 56:10Speaker 2: of it for granted.
- 56:12Speaker 1: So take me to your first acting gig that you get,
- 56:15Speaker 1: like that very first one that you book after all
- 56:19Speaker 1: everyone's nay saying and in your ear, tell me about
- 56:21Speaker 1: that first one.
- 56:22Speaker 2: So that's like I said. So you start and you're
- 56:25Speaker 2: just green, you know what I'm saying, Just like anything else,
- 56:30Speaker 2: You're just attracted to the lore, same thing to me.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Oh man, this is fun, this is new, this is different.
- 56:36Speaker 2: But that's just practicing at the class. And then you
- 56:39Speaker 2: start auditioning for you know, little not to call them bullshit,
- 56:45Speaker 2: but small roles you know, school, college, theater roles that
- 56:50Speaker 2: they have to do for school and stuff. Different people
- 56:52Speaker 2: just throwing out little roles and stuff. But you still
- 56:54Speaker 2: have to audition. Regardless about when you start throwing yourself
- 56:58Speaker 2: out the audition, it's still a hundred other people auditioning
- 57:02Speaker 2: with you. Yeah, so that's what we're getting at. They start,
- 57:06Speaker 2: you know, I'm getting chose, like okay, whoa I booked something? Yeah,
- 57:09Speaker 2: you just and then you just want to go perform
- 57:12Speaker 2: because you've been practicing in class, working on your craft
- 57:17Speaker 2: and doing whatever you just want to perform. It's just
- 57:19Speaker 2: like sports. See, and this is the crazy connection. Everything
- 57:24Speaker 2: that I learned that's installed and instilled within me from
- 57:27Speaker 2: sports goes over and plays into the industry. The dedication,
- 57:32Speaker 2: the work, it's all the same, the preparation having this.
- 57:37Speaker 2: You know, workout, stay, stay mentally ready, physically in shape,
- 57:42Speaker 2: physically ready, spiritually ready, and then they gonna tell you no,
- 57:46Speaker 2: and then you have to be ready to get up
- 57:48Speaker 2: and do it all over again. Just like sports. You lost,
- 57:50Speaker 2: I gotta think, yeah, yeah, yeah, you gotta get up
- 57:54Speaker 2: and play. Yeah you lost, but you gotta play tomorrow.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Yeah you lost, you gotta play next week. That's done.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Let's go keep it moving. Same thing with this. You're
- 58:05Speaker 2: gonna get told no a million times before you get
- 58:08Speaker 2: told yes. Like I said, so you got to have
- 58:10Speaker 2: a mental for the tude to even get into this game.
- 58:15Speaker 2: Like I said, it's changing now because the game is
- 58:18Speaker 2: not the same today twenty five going into twenty six
- 58:21Speaker 2: the way it was when I first started. And like
- 58:24Speaker 2: I tell my people, I feel like the game evolves
- 58:27Speaker 2: like every five years. You know what I'm saying. So
- 58:29Speaker 2: when I started, like we said, early twenty ten to
- 58:31Speaker 2: twenty twelve, whatever that era, it wasn't the same like
- 58:35Speaker 2: when they were working in two thousand and before. No digital,
- 58:40Speaker 2: no nothing. Everything was manual. I think you had to
- 58:44Speaker 2: like buy a book or something they said, and you
- 58:46Speaker 2: had to look to find where the auditions would be
- 58:48Speaker 2: at in the weekly paper. Wow, you know what I'm saying.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Type shit like that. So but it's still the same thing.
- 58:55Speaker 2: It was manual, but you still had to go through
- 58:58Speaker 2: that process. And regardless, back to the answer the question,
- 59:03Speaker 2: I started getting chose, like oh shit, I got booked
- 59:06Speaker 2: and you go do it. So and that's the thing
- 59:09Speaker 2: with acting in the industry or whatever. Just like sports,
- 59:12Speaker 2: you practice all week, the game is on Sunday, the
- 59:15Speaker 2: football game or whatever. You practice in the sport, I
- 59:18Speaker 2: mean you practice in the craft acting. Your game is
- 59:21Speaker 2: the movie. The game is the production. When you get booked,
- 59:24Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, when you're on set the game, Yeah,
- 59:28Speaker 2: when you go to set, that's your game day, So
- 59:31Speaker 2: you know what I mean. So that's how it was.
- 59:34Speaker 2: I started getting booked, started getting chose, and I'm like,
- 59:37Speaker 2: oh shit, I'm booked three projects you know what I'm saying,
- 59:42Speaker 2: then you same thing. And regardless that, like you said,
- 59:45Speaker 2: it's nothing, it was minute, it was a student film,
- 59:49Speaker 2: but they still chose me out of fifty other dudes
- 59:53Speaker 2: or other dudes that looked just like me or whatever,
- 59:55Speaker 2: you understand. So that's where you build that the confidence
- 59:59Speaker 2: and like, okay, maybe I got something here, and then
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: you book something real. Yes, right, so likethless no, Yeah,
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: but at that time it was the game. I booked
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: the game. The game was like, you know, the hottest
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: show out at that time. Yeah, I started booking other things.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: I booked the game and the other stuff. And I'm like,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: so then I got paid, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: So when you get paid and you like, oh shit,
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: I just got paid to come have fun, came to
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: do what I've been doing the you know, practicing, and
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: then but now they actually paid me and I'm getting
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: respected for it. They gave me respect as an actor,
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh what fuck this. I'm like, this
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: is what I'm doing now. Now I'm putting all my chips.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: I'm gambling on me.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. At this point, though,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: if you kind of look back you being able to
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: go have some money then allowed you. I would imagine
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: your money management skills are really great.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: Thank you? Are they sure? Yes?
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: No, I don't know, yes, thank you.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: I appreciate that. I'm a capricorn. They say capricorns managed money.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Well, okay, yeah, because in acting you have to manage
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: your money well.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Right, because it's like I said, it's a game and
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: people see you like, oh, you're on TV, you're a millionaire,
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: and it's not like that. A lot of people you
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: see them there on TV and that was that, and
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: that was the paycheck for that, and now they haven't
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: worked for the rest of the year. Their money ain't
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: came in. It's not like the sports you get paid
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: every week regardless or whatever. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: You don't get paid until you work. So it's just
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: like I said, the whole industry in the world has
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: a different The reality is one thing and what people
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: think it is is another. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: It's rough. It's rough, and a lot of people don't
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: survive it. And you understand why so many and he celebs,
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: you know, you'd be like, oh, they're crazy or this
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: or that because it'll tear you down. The game will
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: chew you up and spit you out. It's like being
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: in a relationship with a girl that you love, you
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: madly in love with her, do anything for and shed
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: just be dogging you out, and everybody like, man, why
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: don't you leave that girl alone? And she dog you
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: out all year and you bout the dropper, and then
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: your birthday come around and she go all out for you,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: give you everything you want. You know it, do everything
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: for you, shows you that she really loves you, and
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: just like that, she got you locked for a whole
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: year again. You know what I'm saying. And that's how
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: the game is. It's vicious. It does not love you.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: It will chew you up and spit you out. So
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: if you're not mentally strong, one thing about me, because
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: then I got into this shit, like you said, when
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: I started doing it, and like, damn, also, this is
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: what I was supposed to be doing. Everything that I've
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: done prepared me for this acting shit. And I'm like, man,
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I could have been doing this since I was motherfucker seventeen,
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: eighteen years old. I wouldn't have made it. If I
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: would have had success at eighteen and a young cat.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: I wouldn't. It would have tought me up because, like
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: I said, your mind, your mental has to be there,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: and I was established as a man when I got
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: into this shit.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think one of the things that you
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: said that I feel is very important is the fact
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: that you said five minutes person that's calling.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Glue, nuh we ad work, don't call me.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: The thing that you said that I think it stands
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: out the most. I think it was kind of like
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: your advice to the younger self is like, you can
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: make a wrong decision, but it's on you to make
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: it a right decision. And I think that's a testament
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: to your whole journey, is like, Okay, maybe there was wrong,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: maybe there wasn't, but either way, you eventually chose to
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: make the right decision to make it work.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Right. Yes, ma'am, it's just I feel that the universe
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: rewards your efforts, you know what I mean, God in
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: the universe rewards your efforts. So if you're putting it in,
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: then God in the universe will meet you halfway to
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: give it back to you. Or and then if you're
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: putting effort in something that's not for you, then the
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: universe will show you where you're supposed to be.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: That's why I do things. Genuinely. I do things, and
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: I'm pure about the things I do. I do it
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: with a smile, because the universe will provide.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Now, what made you go into production the.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: Same things that we're talking about producing, Yeah, the same
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: things that we're talking about. So, like I said, coming
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: up and having success and being blessed and starting to book,
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: and I'm having success as an actor, you know what
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: I mean. But then at the same time, it's so
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: many times that roles that I booked never even happened.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: I've signed contracts and like you said, when was your
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: oh aha moment? I made it? You know what I'm
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: saying like that, Like, yes, motherfucker, we on sign. I
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: done booked this show and it's coming and you know,
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: and it never even happens. So then that tears you down.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: You're like, man, I thought I was finna get XYZ
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: five hundred thousand dollars and this and that, and that
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: it's not coming, So then that'll happened, and then you
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: get back to the grind, back to work, and then
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: it happens again and whatever, Like I said, it's a
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: roller coaster, and you have to be able to to
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: stay the wave. Like I said, the wave bill splash
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: on you. You gotta have that's what we're telling you. Gotta
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: have a surfboard. You gotta have a boat. You gotta
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: be able to swim, swim until you can get you know,
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: get in somebody's boat to stay on top of the wave.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: And it's like that. So working, and then you book
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: and book book like I said, And then I finally
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: other situations all go in my favorite then I link
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: up with Tyler Perry, you know what I mean. And
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: that's a great situation just being able to learn from
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: him mentor from him being the big boss that he
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: is the biggest black man in the game, in the game,
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: in the industry. So to have him as somebody that's
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: a friend, a mentor the boss. So whenever he's talking
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: and he's pouring into me, I'm listening, you know what
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: I'm saying. So it's hard for me to not get
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: into production and what I'm doing after watching him. Okay,
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: this man got ten movies and ten different shows all
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: on at the same time. He got ten different deals
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: with Netflix, Amazon, BT all at the same time. So
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: that's where it comes from. But initially it was already
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: planet when I, like I said, but when I got
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: with him, that's when I knew that's what I was
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: supposed to be doing. But that's where it first started.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: After those situations and those roles and those opportunities never happened,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: I knew that I had to put myself in control
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: of what we were doing because at the end of
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: the day, no one is. And just like this, people
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: ask me, Damn blue Man, you good as you're a
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: great actor. Man, you're doing your thing. Why you ain't
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: doing no Marvel movie yet? Like I don't want to
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: be you know what I'm saying, Like I'm turning down
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Marvel movies and super hero movies Batman and Superman. Do
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: you get what I'm saying. The point is those roles
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: are not available for me. I don't have opportunity to
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: be in Marvel movie. It was one black Marvel man.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: It was two Chadwick, my big bro. Rest in peace
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: to Chadwick and Michael B. Jordan. Yeah, they got those
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: two roles. You know what I'm saying. It hasn't been
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: much more from that. So the point that I'm making is.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: We have to create that.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: And I love that. So that's why you went into production.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: We have to create.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Let's talk about the new project at Viral.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: We are currently. The production company is Viral Productions, you know,
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: started by myself and my partner Frank Atkinson. He didn't
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: make it. I told him he could have came and
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: got a sandwich, sich. Yeah, but now he'll pull up
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: later on y'all. But yeah, myself, my partner Frank Viral
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Productions because early on we were making viral videos.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: Okay, okay, it makes sense.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Now we made viral videos, and that's when I created
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: Viral Productions because I'm like, we got millions of people
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: liking what we're the content that we create when we
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: put these videos out and they go viral, you know
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: what I mean. So if I can get a million
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: people to like what I put out, I can also
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: get these people to come watch my movies. It's the same.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: It's the same thing. So and like I said, then,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: when I got with Tyler Perry, it just put more
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: gas on that fire of being able to get these
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: things and to have him in support of the culture
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: of more black you know, film creators. It's just it's
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: the time because we have to take control of our narrative.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: They're not going to tell our stories just like they
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: just drop, you know, a black love story. We have
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: to tell that story. We have to show people what
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: black love really is and what it feels like. That's
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: our job. It's our job to portray us in the
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: light that we want to be seen. Like I said
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: when I was young, you're not seeing us on TV
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: besides being athletes, drug dealers, gang members, you know, in jail,
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: and like I said, we're so much more than that.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: We have so many more stories to tell besides us
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: being basketball players and jib is that?
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: What is that? What one hundred and seventeen years of
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Hollywood bullshit is about?
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Yeah? Most definitely.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Can you tell our listeners like a little bit about it.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: Like you said once, one hundred and seventeen years of
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: movie bullshit?
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: A movie is a movie bullshit.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: I thought it was say, Hollywood bullshit, movie bullshit. That
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: is the actual name. One hundred and seventeen years of
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: movie bullshit. One hundred and seventeen years, you know, since
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: the slavery was abolished, you know what I mean. So
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: that's that's the years but like I said, we've been
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: going through this same thing that I'm talking about right
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: now for one hundred years, being depicted on camera as
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: as slaves being depicted on cameras, ignorant, being depicted on
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: camera as murderer killers, gang members, whatever, with so much
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: more than that. And it's just a film highlighting all
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: the levels of the terrible movie roles that we have
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: been in since like the Gone with the Wind era
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: when they had Ain't you know, she was Ain't your
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: mom and a slave all the way up until this
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: time period, you know.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: But it's comedic.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's satires, comedic satire, just you know, putting the
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: spin on it to show all the bullshit that we
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: have gone through within being black in the film industry
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: to get to where we are today.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: I love it, Yeah, I love it. Thought that was
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: very creative.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: We trying, We trying. Like I said, Tyler Perry can't
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: be the only one out here giving y'all movies to watch,
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: you know what I mean. There has to be more
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: black creators and black filmmakers. So I applaud him for,
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: you know, putting the battery in my back and giving
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: me the support. But we have to do that. The
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: film is in film festivals, we're amongst winning awards right now.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: So we are blessed beyond measure to just be in
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: a situation and the timing is just great. Man, it's
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: our time, like I said, to take recontrol of the
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: black narrative.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: And then where can everybody keep with everything?
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: Blue?
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I know you can watch more TV. Go ahead, drop
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: all your drops.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I don't have no drops. It's just blue. It's just blue.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: That's it. But no, we're gonna launch more platforms. So,
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: like I said, for the production company, because we have
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: some more situations coming where we're going to have a
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: TV show based off it. Just a reality show following
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: everything that goes with being black in Hollywood and being
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: a black filmmaker. You know what I'm saying, the actor
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: and the filmmaker, the things and the bullshit that we
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: have to go through. But yes, please follow me, support me.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: We need all the love we can get. It's hard
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: out here to be black in the industry. It's hard
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: to be a black man period, but it's even harder
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: to be a black man in the film industry because
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: they don't want us to win.
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: No, No, I think the entertainment business is all you know.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: But I can attest to like even like just counting on. Hey,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: this deal will signed, this check is coming in. Yeah,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: I have a new role. Until the check is big
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: tire in hand, big time. I mean, I pre plan
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: all my checks, by the way, I pre plan all
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: my spending before I get it. But I will say this,
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: until the check is in hand, it's not official.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: No, checks don't count until they are in That's what
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: I say. In the bank. In the bank, because even
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: when it's in your hand, it is still bounced. I've
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: had checks bounce like basketballs.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I've had a check in my bag for like the
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: last month and a half, and I'm like, girl, you
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: put that in because you badgine. I go to the
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: pose like you because I think they have like ninety days.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: I should probably you better go cast your money.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: But all right, guys, thank you guys for tuning in
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: everything blue Kimbo and the like. Subscribe, follow, share, comment.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: For sure, thank you, thank you, thanks out. I'll make
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: you a sandwich.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: He'll make you a saying I'm gonna finish my sandwich.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: I'm just gonna remove.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: All the bacon, organic bacon
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: Organic, even thank you guys, peace out, see it,
