Transcript
- 0:24This is the Treehouse podcast, and it is episode thirteen. I'm Daniel Malley.
- 0:29Also in the Treehouse is of course Alfie Coy and new new addition to
- 0:34their Treehouse, at least to the podcast. But he's actually in what radio
- 0:38terms we referred to as an old ask retread is Trey Trendholme, because uh,
- 0:45Tray was on the radio show up until when did you leave? Trey
- 0:49was at twenty twelve or twenty thirteen. End of twenty twelve. Uh Trey
- 0:55left the show, and and if we're being honest, uh Russ wasn't the
- 1:00same after that. So I guess if anyone was looking to blame anybody for
- 1:03his decline, it would be to you trade. That's true, That's what
- 1:06That's what management said for many years they did because you know, you know,
- 1:08they weren't about to take any responsibility. They're really quick to be like,
- 1:11oh, let's blame somebody else. Hey, let's blame Tray. He's
- 1:15not here. Who can't defend themselves? Trey? It was Tray the guy.
- 1:19It's not in the building. I can't hear my voice. That is
- 1:22under zero contractual obligations, right, So we were obviously off the air for
- 1:30a long time, Tray for much longer, but I'm glad you're back.
- 1:36This is episode thirteen, which at first, you know, it's like people
- 1:38are superstitious about the number thirteen. We're not that superstitious here. I don't
- 1:45think, are you gonna every episode? Dan, We'll eventually stop. But
- 1:49I just wanted to include it here because I wanted to wedge in some superstition
- 1:53Thingum well, I guess that makes sense, yeah, under the guise of
- 1:57conversation. So yeah, So this is episode thirteen. And you know,
- 2:05we've been off the radio now for a while, like I said, Trey
- 2:07for longer. But now we're back. We're doing this, we're enjoying it.
- 2:09We're having fun and and big things are actually happening, you know for
- 2:15the show, which is great. And I'm loving this. I'm loving this
- 2:16for all of us. But I did notice it was, like i'd say,
- 2:23about a month ago. I don't know if you guys are aware,
- 2:28but I've I've worn't a chain around my neck since my early twenties, so
- 2:30let's say like like twenty years, I've had this chain around my neck.
- 2:34I think I got it at James Avery. I don't even know if the
- 2:37location is still there. It's at as a Lincoln Center in North Arlington.
- 2:43It's kind of by where the Hooters is. There's a James Avery there.
- 2:46And I got this this silver chain and it's got a four leaf clover on
- 2:50it. I got that when I was like twenty two, twenty three,
- 2:52and I've had some pretty good luck over the years wearing it. Is because
- 2:54when just watched like Moondock Saints and you're like, man, I need something
- 2:59irish, vaguely like catholic e And it was the analysis, Alphie, were
- 3:06you planning on getting the very toss and equitoss across your knuckles. I'm gonna
- 3:12put my hands behind my back for this year. I'm every boy. A
- 3:17couple of times before I popped some dude in the back of the head.
- 3:20No, but in all seriousness, I got that necklace, and you know
- 3:24it's I didn't know if it really I just liked it, and I wasn't
- 3:28sure if it had actual luck. But I've had some good fortune in the
- 3:31last twenty years. Not entirely good, but mostly good. I didn't say
- 3:36we had a lot of crap. Yeah, but I think part of the
- 3:38reason why that might be is I took my necklace off for a while.
- 3:42Oh yeah, yeah, And so about a month ago I put it back
- 3:46on and some good things started happening. One are the first things that happened
- 3:49when I put this necklace back on was we got Rodney Anderson back on the
- 3:52show. Why did you take it off in the first place? You don't
- 3:55want the sun time? I no, I mean, I honestly don't know.
- 4:00It was, Oh you know what it was. It was something really
- 4:01dumb and petty. When I get out of the shower and I take the
- 4:05towel and running across my chest, it would occasionally I don't understand what you're
- 4:09saying. Can you say it again? But like slower and like a little
- 4:12more. Please, Good job out, But you're totally cracked up, Tray
- 4:20and yourself. When I get out of the shower and I'm drying on what,
- 4:28I'm all soaking wet like an otter. At some point, we really
- 4:38are going to have to implement a video function on this show because people need
- 4:43to see trays face. We do need to. We We've discussed video at
- 4:46some point, and like many things, it's probably coming down the pipeline eventually.
- 4:54Still a work in progress. We're just happy to get the audio on.
- 4:58So anyways, I'm drying off my otter like chest my necklace. My
- 5:06necklace would sometimes get snagged in the towel, so I got tired of it
- 5:11and I took the necklace off, and then we got fired. I'm sorry,
- 5:14lad, Oh is this your doing? Dan? No, it actually
- 5:18is and I actually I actually took it off after we got laid off.
- 5:23Okay, I was about to blame you. That is the god's honest truth.
- 5:25I was about to blame you for only having audio books is my listening
- 5:30option for the past six months. No, that was definitely not my fault.
- 5:34That still goes to UH to a corporate radio structure called radio structure or
- 5:40was it? Was it some decision makers that I don't know that everyone agreed
- 5:45with. You know what, you can't argue with the ratings. You can't
- 5:50argue with what What did I say? Anyways, it's episode thirteen. I've
- 6:01got my good luck necklace back on. Even though I try to say many
- 6:05times over the years, I'm really not that superstitious, but it turns out
- 6:10in my actions I think I actually am. And one of the reasons I
- 6:15put my necklace back on. Was not because we got laid off that,
- 6:20like I said, that happened when I had the necklace on. That was
- 6:23not our vault. In the time that we were off the air, Not
- 6:29everything that happened was good, although there was a lot of good. I
- 6:32know that there was a severe slowdown of people around us dying once we were
- 6:36off the air. That seemed to help. I think there was a slowdown
- 6:41and people we know going to jail, although there might have been a recent
- 6:43uptick and that I'm not really sure. It's hard to keep up at this
- 6:45point, but there was. There was a couple of not great things that
- 6:49happened in the time that we were no longer on the radio and before or
- 6:57before we got back to doing the show in the current podcast form. And
- 7:00one of those things bad that happened was I got into a car wreck.
- 7:04And right, yeah, I'm fine. It wasn't anything, no, no,
- 7:10no, I'm all I got. I've got all my appendages. There's
- 7:15everything works at least as good as it did before. I mean, I've
- 7:17still got brain issues and back problems, but I had those before the car
- 7:20wreck. And the thing was, though, it's like It wasn't really a
- 7:23bad car wreck. It was just one of those things that my my vehicle
- 7:28doesn't look as good as it used to, and that's annoying. And I
- 7:31was hoping I could make it a lot longer, having moved to a new
- 7:34place, and have my car look good for a while, because a lot
- 7:39of the vehicles here do not look good. They're what's referred to as island
- 7:43cars. They look like something that someone was able to jump start and take
- 7:47out of a junk yard. Why because the driving here, the driving here
- 7:54is kind of like the Wild West. It's there are I mean, there
- 7:57are supposedly traffic laws, but no one follows any of them. I mean
- 8:01they're they're at best at best light suggestions. What do they not have police?
- 8:07Nobody they do. But there are a lot of the times the ones
- 8:11running around running into people, not all of them, because I got to
- 8:16meet one after this wreck. So let me give you the scenario, which,
- 8:18by the way, reck not my fault. Will be the judge of
- 8:24that. Damn it was not my fault, and I'm sticking to that.
- 8:28So here's what. So says mere exactly, yeah, exactly, yeah,
- 8:33it says me, and I'm I'm I'm good. Incredible. So here's what
- 8:39happened. And and Trey got to witness some of this when he was here,
- 8:41you know, a short while ago. When you're when you're on the
- 8:46United States Virgin Islands, you drive on the left side of the road.
- 8:48Okay, that's stupid, is this America or what it is? But they
- 8:54they have their own way of doing things here, and one of those things
- 8:56is driving on the left side of the road. That's it's all that was
- 9:00always been. So that causes problems, So keep that in mind. So
- 9:05I'm in the left lane doing the thing. I'm going up a very steep
- 9:07hill basically a mountain, uh huh. And there is a cab, one
- 9:11of those open air Safari cabs, in front of me, and he decides
- 9:16we get to this haun. Is this like a party like a party bust
- 9:20thingy or you say open air like, yeah, it's basically it's a truck.
- 9:26It's exactly, it's a party pickup. It's a it's a pickup.
- 9:31And the bed of the truck has a welded bench, seats and a roof.
- 9:39Okay, yeah, so the tourists, the cruise ship people can climb
- 9:41into the bed of this truck, like it's just like their own benches.
- 9:45They got public drinking in the Virgin Islands. Oh yeah, they do,
- 9:48like they don't care. No, they it's actually they they were doing to
- 9:54go drinks well before COVID. But like, is it like New Orleans.
- 9:58We can just walk around with yep, just who No one gives a damn.
- 10:01There's no brown paper sacks or nothing. No really, nope and no,
- 10:07no one seems to really care if you want to partake in some marijuana.
- 10:11Yeah, well right out in the parking lot. That shocked me.
- 10:15I went to Saint Louis a few years back. That is not part of
- 10:18the Virgin Islands. Alphie don't know. I was think in front of it
- 10:20points Tulsa, shut up tray. My point is, is it anytime you
- 10:26go to somewhere where it has different weed laws, it's kind of a shock
- 10:31to the system. Like I was leaving like the Saint Louis Airport. I
- 10:35don't know what the hell it is, but I walked outside and there's some
- 10:39dude smoking a joint and he's thirty feet away from a cop. And I
- 10:43think this was right after Missouri or Saint Louis had like legalized weed, and
- 10:52it hadn't the law hadn't gone into effect, Like the law was supposed to
- 10:54go into effect September one. This was like August third or something like that.
- 11:01But nobody gave a damn. So like they they heard about the news,
- 11:05but they didn't read all the way down to the article where it said
- 11:07law takes effect September first. They're like, hey, that's as we can
- 11:11do it now exactly. But I honestly love the freedom of laws like that,
- 11:16like the open container laws or you know, public drinking. I'm smoking,
- 11:20well you get what I'm saying. I went to Baton Rouge one time
- 11:24and they have the Daciri places that where all the daciries are named after,
- 11:28like jet fuels you got like octane three thousand or something like that. They
- 11:33drive through daccuirie huts. Yes, I went to one that you buy the
- 11:39dacciri and I think they maybe like put that. They don't even put the
- 11:43tape over the top of the straw hole. They just put a straw in,
- 11:46but leave the top, like leave the paper top on the straw like
- 11:50it's starbought to be covered. But I asked. I go, so,
- 11:52what's the deal. I can just you know, drink this out in public.
- 11:56She goes, Now, I go, I thought they had you know,
- 11:58public drinking laws here and easy, and she goes, nuts, that's
- 12:01New Orleans. This is baton rouge. I go, well, what do
- 12:03I do with this alcohol in my car? And she goes, don't get
- 12:09pulled over. That is sage. That is sage advice, like I don't
- 12:13care what I don't care what city or state you're in. That's just good
- 12:16advice wherever you are. If I'm a cop, I'm sitting right outside that
- 12:20dakery shop and just racking up bills. You know, look, if if,
- 12:26if, if your particular municipality was constitutionally able to work on a commission
- 12:31system, then yeah, I would do the same thing. And they're not.
- 12:35So they don't. They said, if you're in Louisiana, that's the
- 12:39least of your problems. If you're a police officer, God, no kidding,
- 12:43But what was you drinking during this wreck? Dan? No, I
- 12:46was not, and again was not my fault. So not only was I
- 12:50sober, not my fault. So here's what happened. Driving on the left
- 12:54side of the road. There's a Safari cab in front of me right,
- 12:58and as I'm pulling up the mountain, we're on the main road right and
- 13:03there's a t intersection, so another road is coming from my left into our
- 13:09road. Okay, okay, So as I'm approaching this intersection, the cab
- 13:13in front of me stops just past that road and starts reversing at me.
- 13:20So then I do, what's that on a mountain? Yes, And so
- 13:28as he starts reversing, I hit the brakes and I try honking my horn,
- 13:33and that didn't seem to work because he keeps coming. So then I
- 13:37check, I put in reverse. I check my mirror, and the car
- 13:41behind me is well behind me. So I start reversing because I don't want
- 13:45this guy to run into to the front of my vehicle, right huh.
- 13:48And when I do that, another car coming from the ongoing the oncoming traffic
- 13:56turned behind me down that road to my left. Got it, okay,
- 14:03So someone turned from my right behind my vehicle to my left. I stopped
- 14:09because I saw him, and then after that car was gone, I started
- 14:13reversing again, and that's when I ran into the yellow jeep that was apparently
- 14:18following right behind that little black Honda that had just passed behind me. So
- 14:22how did you notice the black Honda but not the giant, bright yellow jeep
- 14:30because it was pulling into my blind spot because I'm checking my left mirror,
- 14:33watching the black Honda leave from behind my vehicle so I can continue reversing.
- 14:39And as that was happening, he was pulling around to my right, my
- 14:43back right bumper. So you were using your mirrors. Yeah, So he
- 14:46basically drove. He drove right into my blind spot, and I ran and
- 14:52my back right end ran into his front right fender. Your back right end
- 14:54did not run into his fender. You Dan ran into his fender? Yeah,
- 15:01because he turned behind me when it was unsafe to do so, Well,
- 15:03you were you weren't look you were going in reverse on a route.
- 15:07Yeah, you weren't looking with yours. There was a cab in front of
- 15:09me reversing, and I was trying to avoid a collision. Sure do.
- 15:13Seemed to be a lot of Well, it's this and because of this,
- 15:16and because of that, there's one common factor here. It's Dan. The
- 15:24common factor was the cab was reversing and it shouldn't been. Yeah, you
- 15:28were too close to the cab. You didn't have enough space? No,
- 15:31no, no, I had plenty of room until the cab started reversing.
- 15:37Did the cab get into wreckt No, it had enough space because I backed
- 15:45up out of its way. Ye, your back shouldn't have you backed up
- 15:48somewhere where you weren't looking. You need to be looking out the rear window.
- 15:50You turn around, you put your arm over the passenger seat, and
- 15:54he's got look back. Anything back there? Any any yellow jeeps back there?
- 16:00Now? I was knocking to my left. I was looking to my
- 16:03left. The car left from behind me, so I continued to my reverse
- 16:07and that's when the guy hit me. So you know it's illegal to reverse
- 16:10on a street like that, which, yeah, yeah, the jeep or
- 16:15the party bus or whatever, they were illegal in doing it, But that
- 16:18doesn't mean that you now have the right to do the same thing. Right.
- 16:21So what I was supposed to do, and I found this out from
- 16:23the lovely police officer that showed up to write up the report, was that
- 16:26I was supposed to just let the cab run into me. Yes, So,
- 16:30so what had happened was the guy that I hit in this bright yellow
- 16:33jeep. Turns out he was actually gone his way to the airport, and
- 16:36before the airport, he was going to drop off his rental jeep. Oh
- 16:40rental. Yeah, so it gets worse. What did he get insurance?
- 16:44Actually doesn't matter because it's it's your fault, not my fault. It's the
- 16:48CAB's fault. So anyway, so we pull over and my back right tail
- 16:52light is busted out. I've got a little bit of damage, and I'm
- 16:56I'm pissed. And his car, which isn't even his cars damaged barely.
- 17:02It's got like scratch like on the on the running board and like a black
- 17:07smudge on the door. It's it's it's almost nothing. Why are you trying
- 17:10to minimize damage? What? Why are you trying to minimize this poor jeep's
- 17:15damage because it was minimal. So he then turns out he's an attorney,
- 17:21so he immediately calls the rental place and they tell him you have to call
- 17:23the police, follow report, blah blah blah. Now we get to sit
- 17:26in the side of the road right for the cop to show up. God
- 17:29knows what the cops are doing right now. I'm gonna be smoking weed in
- 17:30the parking lot and now I've just pulled them out of, you know,
- 17:33their enjoyment time. So the cop shows up, goes through the entire thing
- 17:37and says, yeah, okay, I heard everything heard, you know,
- 17:40all the accounts and blah blah blah. So it's your fault. You're not
- 17:41supposed to reverse on a road, blah blah blahs. Like what about the
- 17:44calves. He's like, well, the cave's not here. Yeah. Ultimately,
- 17:47I'm with the cop and fine, I'm like, well, this guy
- 17:49turned behind me when it wasn't safe to do. So she's like, you
- 17:52shouldn't have been backing up. I'm like, come on, this is not
- 17:55my fault. Come on, doesn't hold up in a court of law.
- 17:57You can't go your honor. Come on, it feels good though, it
- 18:03feels really good. I bet it does feel good. Dan shirking all that
- 18:07responsibility of yours. It's not shirking responsibility. This was not my fault.
- 18:12I was trying to avoid that vehicle hitting me, and in doing so,
- 18:17the guy that pulled behind me didn't wait to see if it was safe for
- 18:19him to make that turn. I see, I see he turns into a
- 18:23vehicle that may or may not have been illegally reversing on the road. You
- 18:26should have said that earlier. Now I see, Now, I see what
- 18:30the problem is. You can't accept blame for anything. You can't be wrong,
- 18:34Yes I can, I really can't. I admit I'm wrong all the
- 18:37time. That's my wife. Okay, are you wrong about this wreck?
- 18:41Nope? See I'm not wrong about this wreck. This is not my fault.
- 18:45Come on, look, this is not my fault. So so then
- 18:48I had two worries coming from this wreck, right and again thinking, am
- 18:53I is there a you know, some sort of superstition here going because I'm
- 18:56not wearing my necklace? And so the police officer comes to the conclusion it's
- 19:00my fault. So now I'm worried about my insurance going up. And now
- 19:03it's I hit a corporate rental thing. It's not a local company, it's
- 19:08a national change. I'm like, oh my god, now I've got to
- 19:11deal with these people. And I get a ticket, and I'm worried about
- 19:15that so real quick. So after like a month or so, I finally,
- 19:19after it takes a while for the wreck to get into the system,
- 19:23I get a call from the whoever handles this stuff Rex for the rental car
- 19:30company. They're like, look, it's really not that bad. If you
- 19:33want, we can just take care of it over the phone. I'm like,
- 19:34yes, please, can we do? That's like okay, that'll be
- 19:37about nine hundred dollars. I'm like, oh my god for a smudge.
- 19:41Yeah, it's the smudge and you your inability to accept responsibility for it.
- 19:45Remember when we got into the argument over who had right of way coming off
- 19:51of the tollway and Spring Valley, and yeah it was me. I had
- 19:55right away. You cut me off? No, then you flipped me off.
- 19:57I did, yes, But yeah, Trey, by the way,
- 20:02that's a true story. Yeah I did cut you off, and I did
- 20:03flip you off, but I still had right of way. In fact,
- 20:07we had a licensed peace officer, Captain Howard come on and say, yes,
- 20:15Alphie had right of way. Dan isn't the wrong. And still to
- 20:18this day, that was years ago and you still can't admit that you were
- 20:22wrong. I don't think I was. And honestly, do we really know
- 20:25that he's a licensed police officer or he's just a guy just running around calling
- 20:29himself captain to everybody? He got a gun, So I mean that's half
- 20:32of it, so do we. He gave me a hat that said police
- 20:36on it. I've had lots of people give me those point is anyway,
- 20:41the point is wrong. Was not my fault? Then this was not my
- 20:45fault. Now even though this this this wacky police officer who's apparently in charge
- 20:51of the traffic division. So you backed the blue until it's your fault.
- 20:56Yeah, pretty much, that's right. I thought the end the story was
- 21:00going to be that the foundation was now covering Saint Thomas. No, I'm
- 21:03not Russ. So so I was worried about how much, you know,
- 21:14the wreck was going to cost me one an insurance and then they gave me
- 21:17the cash option, which I took. So that's nine hundred dollars. But
- 21:19then I'm still worried about how much the fine is going to be. The
- 21:22fine or the citation that I got so insult to my car's injury. This
- 21:29police officer writes me a ticket for negligent driving. Yeah I would. Now
- 21:34I'm worried about how much is this fine going to be. It's not like
- 21:37I've got a huge amount of income right now. I'd really like not to
- 21:41be spending money on frivolous citations, Well, don't do frivolous tricks. Yeah,
- 21:47that's on you. How much was this to be for? I actually
- 21:49lost sleep over this because I was worried. It's like, how much is
- 21:52this going to be? Because there's signs around the island that says fine for
- 21:56littering one thousand dollars. That's if you throw, like, you know,
- 22:00a rapper on the ground. I'm not even sure what it's going to be
- 22:03if there's an actual traffic citation where you caused, you know, a physical
- 22:07damage to the property of somebody else. I lost sleepover this. I was
- 22:10seriously worried about how much this is going to be and I may not be
- 22:12able to eat for a couple of days. How much was it? Thirty
- 22:17one dollars? Shut the hell up, Dan, shut up? You're playing
- 22:22where you go? You're just angry about being woolware in the treehouse. Switt
- 22:26Dan O'Malley and Alfie koy. See, it wasn't all bad. Dad got
- 22:30to erect that. The citation is thirty one dollars. I mean that's kind
- 22:34of cool, all right. The number you're going to need right now to
- 22:49call our dear friend d sponsor Rodney Anderson is of course nine seven two nine
- 22:55eighty five fifty two hundred. Once again that number nine seven two five.
- 23:00Of course, the website always works Rodney Anderson dot Com. Good afternoon,
- 23:03Rodney. How are you today, sir? I'm doing very well. Good
- 23:06more Good afternoon, Dan. So I'm curious about this. So I've moved
- 23:11away, so I'm not as in touch with the North Texas real estate market
- 23:14as I used to be. So I'm curious if someone is listening right now
- 23:17and they're like, you know what, I'd really like to jump into that
- 23:19market, and you know, and buy a house, what's something that they
- 23:22can expect right now with that real estate market? And of course, on
- 23:26top of it, what are the interest rates? Like, Yeah, let's
- 23:30talk through the real estate market real quick. A lot of houses are starting
- 23:33to come on the market. It's the spring selling season. So one thing
- 23:37that people need to know. There's still lack of inventory. But the number
- 23:41one day to look online at real estate is Thursdays. Seventy to eighty percent
- 23:47of all listening tip of market on Thursdays. But you have to know what
- 23:51you can qualify for, how much house can you buy, what's the best
- 23:55loan product, what's my payment's going to be? And make sure that you're
- 23:59fully create a proved because if you're up against one or two additional offers,
- 24:03are more sellers want to know are you for real? They want to make
- 24:07sure all your ducks in a row? And listing agents are callingists left and
- 24:10right to verify what do you have on your borrower? And when I can
- 24:14say, I've got everything on them. They've got excellent credit, excellent assets,
- 24:18excellent everything. All he needs a contract and I'm ready to close.
- 24:22The next question they always ask how fast can you close? And when I
- 24:25say ten to fifteen days ago? Whoa, that's magic to our ears because
- 24:29a lot of lenders must lenders are forty five to sixty days. Wow.
- 24:32And then again, those interest rates, you know, they've they've been going
- 24:36up. Obviously, there's been a lot of news about that recently. But
- 24:37that shouldn't, you know, dissuade someone from actually exploring finally buying that house.
- 24:45Yeah, So on interest rates, we're seeing them jump around. They
- 24:48go down a little bit, they go back up, they go down a
- 24:49little bit, they go back up. So it's really a sideways market right
- 24:52now. One thing that I tell people, marry the house and date the
- 24:56rate. Mean down the road when rates dropping or so, we'll refinanci and
- 25:02it will be a wonderful opportunity. But what will happen is people sit on
- 25:04the sidelines until rates come down, and then everybody will be in the market,
- 25:08and then you'll be against twenty thirty forty offers again, and then you'll
- 25:12be overbidden on houses and may not even get a home during that period of
- 25:17time. Yeah, I believe the acronym is so ol and you definitely don't
- 25:21want to be so well. This is why you need to call Rodney and
- 25:23his team right now. He can make sure that you're actually in the right
- 25:27position to get that house. And like he said, you can find that
- 25:30house that you love, marry it, and then you just date the rate
- 25:33that you get. You can change it down the line and Rodney can help
- 25:34you with that as well. So call him right now nine seven two nine
- 25:37eight five fifty two hundred nine seven two nine eighty five fifty two hundred or
- 25:41again of course it's Rodney Anderson dot com. Thanks Rodney. And if M
- 25:45lending is an equal housing lender three thousand, Village Parkway Suite four hundred,
- 25:48Hihland Village, Texas and MLS two three two nine. You're in lud Tree
- 25:56House with Dan O'Malley and Alfie Cord. Help he say it again? Oh
- 26:10you said? A homeless guy yelled at you. Yeah, he started yelling
- 26:14at me. Good, what did you do? You think everything's my fault?
- 26:17So what did you do to deserve getting yelled at by a homeless man?
- 26:19I? Okay. So I am sitting at a left turn light right,
- 26:26trying to turn trying to turn left, got the arrow. I'm waiting
- 26:30on right, and there's about three four cars in front of me, and
- 26:33I know this intersection. I know that the sometimes a left turn light can
- 26:37be very finicky. Bearn where you cut me off and flip me off?
- 26:41I did cut you off, and I did flip you off because you deserved
- 26:45it and you were wrong and I had right of way. Anyway, I'm
- 26:49waiting for this light to turn green, and there's a homeless guy at the
- 26:53front end of this line of cars talking to the person in the very front
- 27:00and the person in the front car the lead car is not like giving them
- 27:03any casts They're just chit chatting, and all of a sudden, the light
- 27:07turns green and wait to beat away from the wrap up their conversation and get
- 27:11going. I'm not a dick about this. Nothing happens, nobody's moving.
- 27:18Wait another beat, still not moving, and I realize, Hey, there
- 27:22is now no longer enough time for everybody in this line of cars to get
- 27:25through. I honk, and I'm not a you. You tell them how
- 27:30bad they are. Well, I'm not a butthole about it. I just
- 27:33honk. And now wait, was it just a beep or did you lay
- 27:40on the horn? Neither? It wasn't like an excuse me honk. It
- 27:45was also not a good hello of the way honk. It was a come
- 27:48on, let's go. It was a pop pop pop that's it? So
- 27:53a one two three yeah. See this goes back to something I've said.
- 27:56I've said before. This is why we need to have options on the honk,
- 28:02because you wanted to be able to convey the thing you're trying to say,
- 28:07but through your car horn, Like if it needs to be hey,
- 28:10meat, meat, let's go, or a how dare you do that?
- 28:12It needs to be a big scary train horn type of thing like there needs
- 28:15to be a range of car horns so people can know what we mean when
- 28:18we use it, like a please take the spot in front of me?
- 28:22Honk, is this a little? That's it? But that's an f you
- 28:29and your entire family and eat trash and die. Yeah, So which one
- 28:36did you do? Yes? I forgot he had that, So this homeless
- 28:48guy, that's actually what I need. All right, Trey, come back,
- 28:52come back, come back to town. And then I need you to
- 28:53be my car horn. I just stall that around with your new mixer,
- 28:57but I want it to that with me and go drive around. I start
- 29:02honking. The guy in the lead car starts moving and cars start getting through
- 29:07the left turn intersection while we still got the green arrow. Well, I
- 29:11come to the front and the arrow is now yellow and has been yellow for
- 29:15maybe half a second or so. It's it's enough to where I probably should
- 29:19be stopping. But you bet your ass I gunned it through it because so
- 29:23you you too are a dangerous driver, as you've labeled me. No,
- 29:30I'm not a dangerous driver. It was definitely issues. I did not have
- 29:37any road rage issues. I simply wanted to remove myself from any potential dangerous
- 29:42situation because as I approached the intersection, the homeless guy started screaming at me,
- 29:49yelling and flipping me off, And I didn't know if he was going
- 29:52to throw a bottle at me or something like that. And I don't want
- 29:55to be in that sort of situation, so I did the most prudent thing
- 29:59avail, which was to drive quickly through the intersection remove myself from any potential
- 30:06conflict. So could you tell what he was yelling at you? Yeah,
- 30:10fu you piece of trash blah blah blah blah something something like. I don't
- 30:12know. Okay, but but why why was he yelling at you? Like,
- 30:18like, like what's the context? What was he mad at you for?
- 30:21For killing his conversation with the dude in the lead car. I guess
- 30:25I think he thought he was going to get money and he just needed a
- 30:29few more minutes to close the deal. Okay, Look, dude, this
- 30:33isn't this isn't boiler room. It's you either were they either hand you money
- 30:37or they don't. You don't have to work the sale that hard. It
- 30:41just a I don't know. Look, I feel for the homeless. I
- 30:47have all the empathy in the world for them. I don't trust that everyone
- 30:51out on every street corner is homeless. I think that a lot of them
- 30:53are, you know, scam artists, just looking to make quick cash and
- 30:56hop back in their Mercedes and drive home. Yeah, the one that's behind
- 31:00the bush. Yes, oh, the sorry you reminded me of that lady,
- 31:07the lady would green bike trade. Did you ever see the lady with
- 31:11the green bike out by the iHeart Studios. No, there was a lady
- 31:17who would set up at the corner of southbound on the tollway at Alpha,
- 31:23and there's like a transmission tower there, like an electricity transmission tower, line
- 31:29tower there, and some bushes right at that intersection. This lady would park
- 31:33her green sport bike right behind the bushes, and not even like a real
- 31:41quick When you say sport bike, do you mean sport bicycle like a mongoose
- 31:44like a BMX type of thing, or do you mean like a like a
- 31:48like a like a crot rocket, Yes, a crost rocket. She would
- 31:52park it right behind this bush that oftentimes didn't have much foliage on it.
- 31:59It was some time, just some branches, and you can clearly see this
- 32:01non green bike or a motorcycle right behind it, and she's sitting there asking
- 32:07for money, and I'm like, get the hell out of here, lady,
- 32:10Like, at least have the decent seat up to park it behind a
- 32:14bush, maybe a block away, and then walk through your spot, park
- 32:17it behind a concrete wall or something like. She was so lazy that she
- 32:22parked it within feet of her and you could see it through the bushes.
- 32:27But the point is is, I don't like giving money to homeless because I
- 32:30feel like that also contributes to the problem. I feel like there's good charities
- 32:34around that you can donate to that will help with homeless outreach all that stuff,
- 32:37Right, I don't want this guy also holding me back at an intersection
- 32:42that I know has a short green arrow, So pardon me for honking my
- 32:47horn a couple of times to get the jackass and the lead car to move
- 32:52it. I'm not even mad at the homeless guy at this point. I'm
- 32:55mad at the guy in the lead car who won't shut the f up and
- 32:59move when he has a green light. So I will say you did the
- 33:01smart thing by going ahead and pulling through that intersection, because I don't otherwise
- 33:07this. Otherwise you're sitting there next to the homeless dude who's now cursing you
- 33:10out. Yes, exactly, that's what I said. I just wanted to
- 33:13remove myself from the situation that could have turned potentially any number of different ways.
- 33:20It was the prudent thing in that moment, just to gun it.
- 33:23Did you ever stop to think that maybe you could have made it better if
- 33:25you just stopped and gave him some money. I don't got any cash.
- 33:29I don't carry cash like Garan Teuf you tell it's it's cool I got Venmo.
- 33:34Oh good. Has that happened to you too, because that the exact
- 33:37thing has happened to me. That's happened I used to be back in the
- 33:39good old days. That used to be my go too. I would tell
- 33:43somebody, sorry, man, I don't have any cash, and typically it
- 33:45was true. I didn't have any cash. I just always use my debit
- 33:49card. That's happened one day. One day I go to the grocery store
- 33:53and someone's hit me up for cash. I'm like, I don't have any
- 33:57cash, and the guy's like, it's cool, I got Venmo. When
- 33:58he holds up his iPhone, well, I don't leave me alone. That
- 34:04has happened to me with girl Scouts and like girl Scouts selling cookies and boy
- 34:08scouts selling like their popcorn or whatever. The girl Scouts, man, they
- 34:13will get you because that same thing happened to me. There was at our
- 34:16a sort of our home bar. It was Quinlan's and Carrollton and one of
- 34:22one of the regular's nieces set up inside the bar. How brilliant on those
- 34:27little girl's part. And she would hit you up as soon as you walked
- 34:30inside. So we walked inside. It's like, Hi, I'd like to
- 34:31buy some cookies. I'm a gonam sorry, and how many cash? And
- 34:34she's like it's okay, we take venmo PayPal zel. There's a tidal load
- 34:38place across the parking lot. She knew all of it. It was frightening.
- 34:43Then you gotta drop the facade. Then you gotta be like, listen,
- 34:45kid, I don't want your stupid stuff. Leave me alone. And
- 34:50the parents get all bad. You talking about we talked about the other day
- 34:53about the guy selling banana bread. Yes, oh yeah, So I told
- 35:00them one day because they came in and they're, you know, like this
- 35:02really isn't a good you know, in the bar, it's not really a
- 35:05good spot to talk about, you know, your outreach for people with substance
- 35:07abuse. But I told them, I said, if you really want to
- 35:10make money, I said, set up here at two am, and you
- 35:14will sell all the banana bread you have. Yeah you will. Yeah,
- 35:17take a lesson from those people that like like sell tacos and the taco carts
- 35:21or the hot dog carts or the barbecue trucks at two am outside of a
- 35:24bar. Absolutely, you were gonna make bank, Like I don't want to
- 35:30we'll do that. That seems like a really viable business option because there was
- 35:36that one. Dude. Some people actually do it as a viable business option.
- 35:38They'll they'll get like a little food truck or cart thing, and they'll
- 35:42set up in a certain area strategically to capitalize on the bar clientele. Yeah.
- 35:47The problem is, like like the people Tray are talking about, apparently
- 35:51they only like to proselytize for Jesus during business hours, So they don't want
- 35:55to come back at two am and sell banana bread that jes Is allegedly made
- 36:00and also make you you know, switch religions or something. Yeah, they
- 36:04don't want to do that at two am they want to do it during happy
- 36:06hour, ironically, sell street tacos for Jesus, sell barbecue sandwiches for Jesus,
- 36:12chop brisket sandwiches for the Lord. I think street tacos would be for
- 36:16hay sous. That feels race like a little races, doesn't It feels it?
- 36:23It feels like it just a little bit. Hey, look it's break
- 36:30time. Oh good Youorian Luke Tree House with Dan O'Malley and Alfie Cord.
- 36:59Youorian Luke Free House with Dan O'Malley and Alfie Cord. Yes, you absolutely
- 37:07need to tell Alfie that story. Trey. I had totally I had totally
- 37:10forgotten about that. So I was actually, I think this actually might be
- 37:16worse slash better than than Alfie's homeless guy story. So I was at the
- 37:22turning on the side street from Northwest Highway over there by half Price Books,
- 37:28and there's a it looks like a homeless guy, but what's different is he
- 37:32had a book that he was showing people. All Right, all right,
- 37:37I'll buy it. I rolled down my window and I'm probably two cars back,
- 37:45and I started talking to him like, hey, you know what are
- 37:46you selling? Because oh you know I wrote this book. It's my life
- 37:50story about how I, you know, got out of addiction and everything else
- 37:53and through God. And you know hecause you want to buy it, you
- 37:58want to donate, Okay, sure, yeah, you know what, you've
- 38:02got something to offer. I'm not just giving, all right. I pull
- 38:07out a ten dollar bill, I hand it to him, and he doesn't
- 38:10give me the book. He keeps walking and the right light turns green,
- 38:14and I got some a hole behind me, honking, and so I have
- 38:17to go right. So, first of all, the a hole behind you
- 38:21honking, that was clearly alfie. Yeah, so he took your ten dollars
- 38:25and didn't give you the book. Nope, Sorry, you gotta go.
- 38:30Sorry, traffic class not my fault, by I do like her. If
- 38:37that sort of gets around the panhandling stuff, I'm not even sure if that's
- 38:40still a thing in the city of Dallas like it was at one point.
- 38:44Like panhandling is supposed to be illegal, not that they really did much to
- 38:45enforce it. But instead of just begging for money, you got this guy
- 38:51who's actually well, at least he says he's selling a book for all you
- 38:54know, he went into half price books found something and just it's just making
- 38:59it up. It's probably not even there's probably not even an actual story of
- 39:01his in there. It's probably you know, the punishment for the hobbit.
- 39:05Yeah. No, I think he went over like he had a little cardboard
- 39:08box where it looked like he was pulling copies out. I think you're right.
- 39:12He probably just went to half price books. But you know, ten
- 39:14books for ten bucks? You oh, you know what. I know exactly
- 39:16what he did. He didn't buy those ten books for ten bucks. He
- 39:19walked into the area and I know that story well because I've done this where
- 39:22you take all the books that you want to sell, and he just saw
- 39:25the box sitting there that they hadn't gotten to yet, and he just took
- 39:29the box and ran off. You didn't make a U turn and come back
- 39:34and go, hey, I'm back from my book. Can I have it
- 39:36now? Yeah? No, kidding. You should have turned around and got
- 39:37in the book. That's where he's brilliant at that intersection, because then if
- 39:45you're trying to do it, you turn, you're stopping right in the middle
- 39:46of the Northwest Highway. Was it rush hour? I mean, is it
- 39:52ever not? On Northwest Highway right there, but it was it was right
- 39:55around lunch time, which is also an incredibly busy time. I've made a
- 40:00wrong turn there trying to get somewhere, and that exact intersection making one wrong
- 40:06turn, well, all I had to do was like make a U turn
- 40:07and then take the other left or the other right or something like that.
- 40:10It added ten minutes to my drive. Ten minutes just to make one U
- 40:15turn and go the other direction. I don't know, man, if if
- 40:21if it was my ten bucks, and it's not just the ten dollars,
- 40:24there's also the principle, you know, in play, I'm turning around and
- 40:30I'm going to get my money, or at least get my book. I
- 40:36thought about it, thought about coming back, but at the end of the
- 40:37day, you know, I almost had to tip my hat. I was
- 40:39like, you know, that's kind of next level homeless crap top ten years
- 40:45years ago. Like I still remember the first time I saw a guy who
- 40:49was who was begging for money, but his sign said need money for beer,
- 40:54and I loved it because it was honest. Oh, there used to
- 40:59be a guy right over here that had to sign it. The funny thing
- 41:01he only had one leg but as signs that helped me get back on my
- 41:05feet, and I would always give him a fi. It does work though.
- 41:08I mean, look, look, we've all been we've all been scam
- 41:12we've all had the you know, the person you know with a sob story
- 41:15or one of my all time favorites is the guy that's saying, oh I
- 41:17was I had to walk. He has the empty gas can as the prop
- 41:22and he says, oh, I just ran out of gas up back up
- 41:24the road a little bit. I just need a few bucks just to fill
- 41:27up my can. Be like, so, then you try to and that
- 41:30happens at a gas station, And that's one time that happened for the guy
- 41:34made the mistake of asking me while I'm pumping gas at a gas station because
- 41:38he doesn't actually need gas. He just wants money, right, He's supposed
- 41:43to be asking that at like a drive through or somewhere else that doesn't actually
- 41:46have gas readily available. So you don't do what I did, which is
- 41:52you need some gas here, just give me your can. I'll put some
- 41:54in there. Oh no, I was one of the money You're not even
- 41:58good at this. The people that just say, hey, can I have
- 42:01some cash without any sort of like additional bullcrap story. I respect that more
- 42:08than I do anyone with any sob story or scam or anything like that.
- 42:15There's but I do feel like a dumbass though contributing to let's say somebody's drug
- 42:24problem or alcohol problem. There was one dude that hangs out outside of coffee
- 42:30shop. But I go to quite a bit, and this coffee shop sells
- 42:35tacos. They sell breakfast tacos, and somebody had bought him some breakfast tacos
- 42:38because he had the to go box sitting right next to him with breakfast tacos.
- 42:43And I walked by, and I've seen this guy a couple of times.
- 42:46He knows what kind of car I'm in. I'm thinking better to have
- 42:51his guy as an ally while I've got cash on me for the first time
- 42:53in you know, months, So I give him five bucks and he disappears
- 43:00and leaves the frigging breakfast tacos there, and like an hour or two later,
- 43:06his spot where he normally sits, there's there's breakfast tacos covered in flies
- 43:12and a mostly drinking forty And I'm just annoyed now because I'm like this guy
- 43:21could have, you know, spend it on something else, go by haircut,
- 43:24choose something. It's just the alcoholism, I think is what pissed me
- 43:29off more than anything. Well, to me, it's not so much angering
- 43:32as as it is just a really really sad, yeah, emotionally distressing story.
- 43:37I mean, I don't that's one of the saddest stories I've heard in
- 43:39a long time. Because every breakfast taco deserves to get eaten, and every
- 43:45forty deserves to be finished. I mean, that's just it's so sad,
- 43:49it's wasteful. Mhmm. Thank you guys. How many flies were on the
- 43:54tacos? At least four? Completely out of the question them it was,
- 43:59I would not eating it. There were at least four. One is too
- 44:01many flies for me, Dan, for you. Yes, But I'm the
- 44:05I'm the guy that likes to uh not waste anything because I remember, I'm
- 44:08the guy that ate nine day old chicken out of my fridge and got sick.
- 44:15I think I could. I could swat off a couple of flies off
- 44:16at breakfast taco and define tell you what, next time I see him there
- 44:20with his breakfast taco sitting in the sun all day, I'll ask I'll trade
- 44:24him for the cash and I'll ship him to you. How about that.
- 44:30I don't know if those will hold. No, you wouldn't care, You're
- 44:34right, I wouldn't. I tell you, Like, you can put a
- 44:36breakfast taco in front of my face right now, I'm like eating it just
- 44:40annoys me. And at one point I told you about this, Dan,
- 44:44I never told Trey. I used to carry around little bottles of like airplane
- 44:47liquor, you know, like the little liquor bottles in my car. This
- 44:52is part of like a emergency kit or something like that. I would throw
- 44:55on like a little bottle of Irish whiskey or something like that, and emergency
- 45:00alcohol kit. Yeah, in case you need, Like why didn't I think
- 45:05of that. That's really unfortunate because up until this point right now, Trey
- 45:12thought he had done everything there was to do with alcohol. Yeah, well
- 45:16do you know what I mean? Though? In case you need like a
- 45:19quick shot of liquid courage or something like that. You're going out to a
- 45:23party and oh my god, that's that one chick that I've been you know,
- 45:25meaning to talk to for a bit. Here, let me have a
