- 1:53Speaker 3: governor of Minnesota, the big smooth. And this is the
- 1:57Speaker 3: sports done right podcast. And in a few moments, we
- 2:01Speaker 3: have an interview with the one and only Jelani Bodie,
- 2:04Speaker 3: our main man, the Michigan connect Detroit lion, super fan
- 2:09Speaker 3: host of the wait a minute show as well. And
- 2:13Speaker 3: he joined us just a few minutes ago. So we
- 2:15Speaker 3: are going to get that interview to you as we
- 2:17Speaker 3: are talking Vikings, Lions. And I'm a little worried, a
- 2:20Speaker 3: little worried this game. I think Lions definitely presented a
- 2:25Speaker 3: threat for that first loss of the year. And you'll
- 2:29Speaker 3: hear me and Jelani talk about it here. I'll give
- 2:31Speaker 3: you my initial thoughts here in just a moment. And
- 2:36Speaker 3: first off, I want to thank Seventh Avenue Pizza. Get
- 2:38Speaker 3: you some of the best frozen pizza out there. A
- 2:43Speaker 3: breakfast pizza, the best sausage pepperoni, which is my personal favorite. Meatball.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I mean, they got it all, man. Best frozen pizza,
- 2:52Speaker 3: best ingredients and true to Minnesota. Make sure you get
- 2:56Speaker 3: you some of that Seventh Avenue pizza. All right, let's
- 3:01Speaker 3: get into it here. I want to get right into
- 3:03Speaker 3: Jelani's interview in just a minute. But of course, we
- 3:05Speaker 3: got to talk about this gopher game. beating the Hawkeyes.
- 3:09Speaker 3: The pig is home, ladies and gentlemen, and I can't
- 3:12Speaker 3: wait to go down, get my pitcher with it as well. Oh,
- 3:17Speaker 3: the music. Just for you, Andrew Hayes. All right, so
- 3:27Speaker 3: there we go. I just had to throw that in
- 3:29Speaker 3: for my buddy Andrew, a little rouser action there as well.
- 3:32Speaker 3: But listen. And, you know, P.J. and a lot of
- 3:37Speaker 3: other people called him. Minnesota out Iowa, Iowa. Out Iwood, Iowa.
- 3:43Speaker 3: There we go. 13-10. Only a very late touchdown by
- 3:49Speaker 3: the Hawkeyes on that typical four-play, 98-yard drive. And I
- 3:57Speaker 3: know Gopher fans, because I was with you. When they
- 4:00Speaker 3: got that late in the game to tie that game
- 4:03Speaker 3: up 10-10, it's like, oh, shit, here we go again.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Here we go. Gophers going to find a.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Way to lose this.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Gopher defense props. Played incredible football outside of that one drive. Honestly,
- 4:18Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you wipe that touchdown off three points.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Don't get really much better than that.
- 4:24Speaker 4: And.
- 4:25Speaker 3: The Golden Gophers, by the way, who have their own
- 4:28Speaker 3: issues on offense, Drake Lindsey, 14-26, 137 yards, no touchdowns,
- 4:35Speaker 3: did throw an interception. And Drake hasn't been looking good lately. And,
- 4:43Speaker 3: you know, I'm looking at the stats here. Javon Tracy,
- 4:45Speaker 3: you know, rushed for 22 yards. Xavier Ford rushed for
- 4:49Speaker 3: 33 yards. Darius Taylor rushed for 20 yards. He had
- 4:53Speaker 3: the lone gopher touchdown, however. Receiving-wise, Javon Tracy had 45 yards.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Jalen Smith had one big catch, as we know, for
- 5:03Speaker 3: 39 yards. Roman Voss for 30. Obviously, stats are not overwhelming.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Gophers get the 5-2. Iowa Falls the 5-2. And I
- 5:15Speaker 3: was just watching that game with friends over at Fathead
- 5:19Speaker 3: Bills playing. My friends bar downtown Minneapolis, shout out to them.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Make sure you go support Fathead Bills if you're in
- 5:26Speaker 3: the area. If you want to go get some good food,
- 5:28Speaker 3: watch a game, hang out, check out Fathead Bills. But,
- 5:33Speaker 3: you know, we're sitting there. I'm there with my buddy Andrew,
- 5:36Speaker 3: Iowa fan. My son came down, just came down to
- 5:39Speaker 3: hang out. And, man, it's just so many opportunities for
- 5:44Speaker 3: both these teams. Early on, Iowa missed a couple big
- 5:46Speaker 3: catches that may have turned the tide for them, honestly.
- 5:50Speaker 3: early on, drop passes for them, some drop passes for
- 5:53Speaker 3: the Gophers. Again, until that last big pass from Drake Lindsey,
- 6:00Speaker 3: where they set up the game-winning field goal.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I don't know, man.
- 6:04Speaker 3: It's just Gophers got to find a way to get
- 6:08Speaker 3: better here quickly. Obviously, we're going to speak on this
- 6:12Speaker 3: Indiana game here in a second, but right now, we're
- 6:16Speaker 3: just going to enjoy that we finally got Floyd of Rosedale,
- 6:19Speaker 3: the The trophy back home to Minnesota after years down
- 6:24Speaker 3: in Iowa. Obviously, we know our record against Iowa here.
- 6:28Speaker 3: That is just the first. And a lot of people,
- 6:31Speaker 3: and quite honestly, I heard a Gopher fan say this, too.
- 6:35Speaker 3: He's like, you know, this is the first legitimate win
- 6:38Speaker 3: in P.J. 's tenure because of the infamous fair catch. No,
- 6:43Speaker 3: it wasn't a fair catch game where Minnesota held on
- 6:47Speaker 3: to get the victory there a few years ago. Hey, props,
- 6:51Speaker 3: PJ with a wonderful pregame speech that I've been posting
- 6:55Speaker 3: on the socials. He sounded like a football coach and
- 6:59Speaker 3: coached this team up, and he got the victory. Wasn't pretty.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Like my friend said, it goes by the moniker ABM,
- 7:08Speaker 3: but he was like, man, watching this game, he texted me.
- 7:11Speaker 3: He's like, glad the Gophers won, but watching that game
- 7:14Speaker 3: put football back 40 years. It absolutely did. It absolutely did.
- 7:20Speaker 3: But Gophers get to 5-2, as we said. Indiana, they're
- 7:25Speaker 3: on the road defending national champions. And listen, granted, while
- 7:29Speaker 3: Indiana is not last year's Indiana, still a good team,
- 7:35Speaker 3: tremendous defense. But, you know, it's all on this Gophers offense.
- 7:40Speaker 3: They're going to have to find a way to move
- 7:41Speaker 3: this ball. or else this game could be done very,
- 7:44Speaker 3: very early. I think I was about a 20-point favorite
- 7:47Speaker 3: right now, even though Indiana has had mad trouble putting
- 7:51Speaker 3: points on the board as well. So go for defense,
- 7:55Speaker 3: come to play. Go for offense, going to have to
- 7:57Speaker 3: find a way. And, you know, it seems when they
- 8:01Speaker 3: try and run some trick plays at times, they get
- 8:03Speaker 3: a little discombobulated, a little lost in what they're doing.
- 8:08Speaker 3: And let's just see if you got some horses to
- 8:10Speaker 3: go up against the Hoosiers, man, You know, the Hoosiers
- 8:15Speaker 3: can be God, I guess, but it's going to take
- 8:18Speaker 3: damn near a perfect game for Minnesota. So, Indiana, Minnesota
- 8:23Speaker 3: this weekend, and I am checking here. Give me one
- 8:28Speaker 3: second here in the Situation Room, because we are looking
- 8:34Speaker 3: for a start time this weekend.
- 8:39Speaker 5: 2.30 p.m.
- 8:43Speaker 3: And game day, or excuse me, yep, game day will
- 8:46Speaker 3: be in town. ESPN, the big show's in town for Indiana, Minnesota.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Should be fun. Should be fun. And who knows, maybe
- 8:56Speaker 3: the Gophers can find a way to put it together
- 8:59Speaker 3: and get a victory in Indiana. Wouldn't that be something?
- 9:03Speaker 3: Especially after you coming off beating Michigan, losing to Purdue,
- 9:08Speaker 3: finally beating Iowa. See if you can keep it going here.
- 9:12Speaker 3: All right, folks, moving along. Like I said, Jelani Bodie
- 9:15Speaker 3: joined me here. We're going to get to this interview
- 9:17Speaker 3: here in just a moment. Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions. Excited
- 9:22Speaker 3: for this game as well. A little worried. I think
- 9:24Speaker 3: Detroit's got, you know, they've got the horses that, you know,
- 9:27Speaker 3: can definitely put a nail on you. But Minnesota's just
- 9:31Speaker 3: got to find a way. And, you know, one of
- 9:32Speaker 3: the things that we were talking about in this interview
- 9:35Speaker 3: you're about to hear is the Vikings quarterback play. Obviously,
- 9:38Speaker 3: Kyler Murray, that's, Really, the main thing when people talk
- 9:41Speaker 3: Vikings is quarterback play. And, you know, two steps forward,
- 9:46Speaker 3: one step back. One step forward, two steps back. It
- 9:49Speaker 3: just seems really, you know, and we're talking about an
- 9:54Speaker 3: undefeated football team, people. That's the other thing. Six and 0. But,
- 10:01Speaker 3: you know, the Vikings are like, we got the worst
- 10:03Speaker 3: quarterback in the league. And while that is not the case, but,
- 10:09Speaker 3: you know, you got to find a way. You got
- 10:10Speaker 3: to find a way to get Justin Jefferson the ball.
- 10:13Speaker 3: You got to find a way to start slinging that
- 10:16Speaker 3: rock and getting this offense going because it's like we're
- 10:18Speaker 3: playing with borrowed time here. Um, I don't see this
- 10:23Speaker 3: getting you through playoffs, getting you to Superbowl victories because
- 10:28Speaker 3: I don't know how sustainable this type of play is
- 10:31Speaker 3: with the quarterback position. And now you're starting to hear
- 10:33Speaker 3: about it on all the podcasts, anything Vikings related here
- 10:37Speaker 3: in the twin cities. It's all quarterback talk. Um, Some
- 10:42Speaker 3: people talking about bringing back her cousins. Me and Jelani
- 10:46Speaker 3: will talk about that here in the interview you're about
- 10:48Speaker 3: to hear. But, yeah, it's wild, man. 6-0, but you
- 10:54Speaker 3: just have the feeling almost like it's an 0-6 team.
- 10:57Speaker 3: It's just wild. It's just wild. All right, so let's
- 11:00Speaker 3: get to the interview here. Jelani Bodie with Vince Wright, me,
- 11:04Speaker 3: yours truly, the sports governor, talking about the upcoming game
- 11:08Speaker 3: this weekend. All right, everybody. Vince Wright, sports governor here.
- 11:16Speaker 3: And we got the one and only Jelani Bodie, host
- 11:19Speaker 3: of the Wait a Minute show. You see the icon
- 11:22Speaker 3: in the background. We're going to get to that in
- 11:25Speaker 3: a minute, my friend. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We got you.
- 11:28Speaker 3: We got you. But Jelani, first, my friend, I want
- 11:34Speaker 3: to talk about the Michigan Wolverines. And, you know, I
- 11:42Speaker 3: was like, I was going to get some questions out
- 11:45Speaker 3: here and be all prim and proper about it, man. But, no,
- 11:48Speaker 3: we're just two college football homies, man. My Gophers get
- 11:53Speaker 3: the little brown jug back finally.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 3: And listen, Jelani, I ain't going to make no beef.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I mean, this is not your typical Michigan team. I know.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I get it. But I'm damn sure happy we got
- 12:06Speaker 3: the jug back at least for a year or two.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I don't know if we play next year. But in
- 12:11Speaker 3: all seriousness, boss– Give me your thoughts. I mean, obviously
- 12:14Speaker 3: the quarterback issues are what's standing out there. You know,
- 12:18Speaker 3: still a decent defense happening up there. But, yeah, man,
- 12:21Speaker 3: give us your thoughts on your team up there.
- 12:24Speaker 4: And that's the frustrating part is that this defense for
- 12:29Speaker 4: Michigan has played pretty well for the season and giving
- 12:35Speaker 4: the situations that they've been put in.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Each and every week.
- 12:41Speaker 4: And it was a prime example this past week against
- 12:45Speaker 4: the defending champs, top 10 team.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yep.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Big 10 foe, Indiana. And you, I mean, I know
- 12:54Speaker 4: the score says 13, but you held them to six
- 12:56Speaker 4: points for four quarters.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Yeah.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Michigan football. Let's just be honest. They should be able
- 13:04Speaker 2: to at least get you 14.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Any Michigan roster, they should be able to get you 14. Yep.
- 13:09Speaker 2: So, this team is going through a transition.
- 13:16Speaker 4: And obviously they've made some moves with the whole Bryce thing.
- 13:20Speaker 4: And I think this car kid is probably going.
- 13:24Speaker 2: To be the guy.
- 13:27Speaker 4: But I think probably the biggest thing for this team
- 13:30Speaker 4: is that Wittenham took this team over and he brought
- 13:33Speaker 4: his OC with him. And it just seems that they
- 13:37Speaker 4: are trying to run Utah plays.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 13:42Speaker 2: With Michigan players. Yes. Yes.
- 13:44Speaker 4: And it's going to take it's going to take probably
- 13:48Speaker 4: a season or two, hopefully a season to really try and.
- 13:53Speaker 2: To implement whatever he's trying. And I and I.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Reference another person that came into this program recently. Rich Rod,
- 14:02Speaker 4: Rich Rodriguez, where he came, I think he came from
- 14:06Speaker 4: West Virginia. He came from the spread offense and, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 4: and everything. And Michigan wasn't a spread offense. They run
- 14:14Speaker 4: the ball, you know, with all the, you.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Know, all the running backs that they done ever had.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Exactly. You know, and it's funny you say that because
- 14:24Speaker 3: that is all I've been hearing the past couple of
- 14:27Speaker 3: weeks about Michigan is exactly what you just said. regarding
- 14:31Speaker 3: the coach, you know, kind of coming in with that
- 14:33Speaker 3: Utah mentality. And, you know, so I was at the
- 14:38Speaker 3: game here and, you know, one of the things I
- 14:41Speaker 3: noticed about Michigan, especially on that offensive side, just kind
- 14:46Speaker 3: of a, just lackluster, man, no real spark, no real fire,
- 14:51Speaker 3: you know, outside of, you know, coming out initially, you know,
- 14:53Speaker 3: beginning of the game as both teams do. But that
- 14:56Speaker 3: was the thing that kind of, I noticed just wasn't
- 14:59Speaker 3: any real spark, any real urgency throughout the game from them.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Now gopher defense didn't have something to do with that,
- 15:05Speaker 3: but yeah. Yeah, man. Just from obviously what we've seen
- 15:10Speaker 3: and in Michigan being a, literally a top three college
- 15:13Speaker 3: program ever. Yeah. You know, I can only imagine for
- 15:18Speaker 3: you and the other fans, just the disappointment because then
- 15:22Speaker 3: you go to car and, you know, he has some
- 15:25Speaker 3: moments again, but yeah, it just, You know, I don't know.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I don't know, Jelani.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're trying to get ahead of it.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Let him go through. We already know what.
- 15:35Speaker 4: This season is going to be about. It's try and
- 15:38Speaker 4: get ready for Ohio State and win that game. If
- 15:41Speaker 4: you don't win any other game, try. And I really
- 15:46Speaker 4: do believe that they're probably trying to get Carr ramped up,
- 15:49Speaker 4: you know, for that game and playing against, you know, Indiana.
- 15:54Speaker 4: You know, I would assume did. you know more good
- 15:58Speaker 4: than harm with it. I think they're probably done with Bryce.
- 16:03Speaker 3: I was just going to ask you that. Okay.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I think it's, they're going to go their separate ways.
- 16:08Speaker 4: It just didn't, it just didn't work, work out for
- 16:10Speaker 4: whatever reason. I don't know props to Bryce for coming back.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Cause he easily could have left when, when they got
- 16:17Speaker 4: a new coach. So he tried to, you know, tried
- 16:20Speaker 4: to work it out, but it just don't seem like
- 16:22Speaker 4: it's going to work out. And, The name that's on
- 16:25Speaker 4: the back of that kid's jersey, that plays a part.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Michigan folks are Lord Carr fans and everything. And if
- 16:34Speaker 4: the kid plays well, yeah, they're going to want, you know,
- 16:36Speaker 4: that car out there, you know, on the field. And
- 16:42Speaker 4: if he can play, he can play, you know, at
- 16:44Speaker 4: the end of the day. But, yeah, they got some
- 16:47Speaker 4: things that they got to get, you know, turned.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Around at the program.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Exactly, man. I couldn't agree more. It was just, you know, someone,
- 16:56Speaker 3: you know, Big Ten fan watches this league, you know,
- 16:59Speaker 3: forever to see Michigan where they are right now. And,
- 17:02Speaker 3: you know, it does happen every once in a while.
- 17:05Speaker 3: The big programs do ebb and flow every once in
- 17:08Speaker 3: a while. But this year, man, yeah, it is just
- 17:12Speaker 3: it's rough, man. And that's one of the reasons I
- 17:14Speaker 3: had to get you on, too, along with the talk
- 17:16Speaker 3: of Detroit Lions. But, you know, just watching.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Can I say one thing, Vince?
- 17:21Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 17:22Speaker 2: The one thing also, I think it's JJ Buchanan.
- 17:28Speaker 4: But like we don't have that person. Like you just said,
- 17:35Speaker 4: it was when we need something, it was Blake Corral.
- 17:38Speaker 4: You know, it seemed like it was always a guy.
- 17:41Speaker 4: And JJ is, you know, right now he is that guy, but.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Marsh is, you know, up and down, but I don't
- 17:51Speaker 4: think we have that guy that has singled himself out as, like,
- 17:58Speaker 4: this is the person we got to get the ball to.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Exactly, which is exactly what we're used to from Michigan football.
- 18:04Speaker 3: What up, Desmond Howard? You know, and then you can
- 18:07Speaker 3: go on and on and on from there. I mean,
- 18:10Speaker 3: I'm old enough. I remember Anthony Carter running wild over there,
- 18:13Speaker 3: you know. Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:17Speaker 3: But yeah, man, you know, I don't want to spend
- 18:21Speaker 3: too much time. I just wanted to get your thoughts
- 18:22Speaker 3: because it feels like you're kind of sucking the fun
- 18:25Speaker 3: out of that national basketball championship team sitting right across
- 18:28Speaker 3: the street over there as well, looking to come back
- 18:31Speaker 3: and do their thing. So very, very quick thoughts on
- 18:36Speaker 3: the Michigan basketball. And by the way, as we haven't talked,
- 18:39Speaker 3: congratulations on the national championship for your program.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be rough this year, though.
- 18:49Speaker 4: I mean, look, you know, with the portal and how
- 18:52Speaker 4: they worked it out, the coach left. And I'm just
- 18:57Speaker 4: basing it off history. We've seen, and in no way
- 19:02Speaker 4: am I saying our coach, our former coach, are these individuals.
- 19:08Speaker 4: But I'm just saying, when you have a guy like
- 19:10Speaker 4: a Bobby Knight, Coach K, Dean Smith.
- 19:14Speaker 2: And I'm just mentioning, uh, even, even, um, why am I, uh, drawing, uh,
- 19:19Speaker 2: Jim Bayheim, you know, um, that has success. Uh, cause
- 19:24Speaker 2: if Izzo leaves, it's going to be different. It's going
- 19:26Speaker 2: to be different.
- 19:26Speaker 4: It's going to be a challenge for the next person
- 19:28Speaker 4: that come, you know, uh, after that person. So that's
- 19:31Speaker 4: why I'm just saying like, you know, it's going to
- 19:33Speaker 4: be a different, different year just because you got a
- 19:36Speaker 4: different coach, but then also, uh, Where they used the
- 19:39Speaker 4: portal and guys, you know, they got Yaxel and other
- 19:42Speaker 4: guys that was in, you know, in that program. They've
- 19:45Speaker 4: gone on to the, you know, to the NBA and everything.
- 19:47Speaker 4: So it's just going to be it's going to be
- 19:49Speaker 4: a transformation. transition and they're going to have to re
- 19:52Speaker 4: up and recruit and everything. So I appreciate what they
- 19:58Speaker 4: did because they finished the business of teams. Obviously, the
- 20:03Speaker 4: Fab Five, we've seen them.
- 20:05Speaker 2: It's surprising that they didn't win one, and then.
- 20:09Speaker 4: They got back to the championship, lost to Louisville. So
- 20:14Speaker 4: it was good to see them, you know, seal the
- 20:16Speaker 4: deal this one time. So I'll ride with it. I'll
- 20:20Speaker 4: ride with it and roll with it as long as
- 20:23Speaker 4: I can.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Hey, there you go. And you know, they did bring
- 20:26Speaker 3: you a chip.
- 20:26Speaker 2: So I mean, exactly. I'll take it.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. They get a, get a little bit of
- 20:30Speaker 3: a pass there. All right, folks, again, Jelani J.B. Boldy
- 20:33Speaker 3: joining us, old friend of the sports done right podcast
- 20:37Speaker 3: host of the wait a minute show. Make sure you
- 20:39Speaker 3: are following him on all the social medias out there.
- 20:43Speaker 3: And Jelani, let's get to it here. I know your
- 20:45Speaker 3: time is limited, my friend, but the Detroit lions, that
- 20:48Speaker 3: beautiful moniker behind you right there. Um, let me ask
- 20:53Speaker 3: you this and, and excuse me for looking down. Cause
- 20:57Speaker 3: I did actually type out some questions here. So with
- 20:59Speaker 3: the Viking six and all this Brian Flores defense, how
- 21:05Speaker 3: does Jared golf beat this team?
- 21:07Speaker 2: Fool's gold. That's what it is.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I'm just joking.
- 21:11Speaker 2: You know what?
- 21:13Speaker 4: This is, this has been a challenge lately for the
- 21:17Speaker 4: Detroit lions because the Earlier in that tenure with Brian Flores,
- 21:22Speaker 4: Jared Goff has been able to carve that defense up.
- 21:28Speaker 4: We know that Brian Flores loved the blitz, and Jared
- 21:31Speaker 4: Goff was able to figure out when that was happening,
- 21:33Speaker 4: where it was happening, where to go with the football
- 21:36Speaker 4: in this last game.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I think we played on Christmas, if I remember correctly.
- 21:41Speaker 4: The Vikings did a pretty good job in slowing us
- 21:45Speaker 4: down and making us look normal.
- 21:49Speaker 2: So for Jared, I think that the biggest thing is.
- 21:54Speaker 4: As crazy as it going to sound, because it's going
- 21:57Speaker 4: to be probably at the expense of some guys production,
- 22:00Speaker 4: I should say, but they got to figure out a
- 22:03Speaker 4: way to, to establish the run. And I know that,
- 22:07Speaker 4: I know that's crazy to say with Jameer Gibbs and everything,
- 22:09Speaker 4: because my, my fear is, is that you give, you're
- 22:12Speaker 4: giving Jameer Gibbs the ball a lot and, and to
- 22:15Speaker 4: expect him to carry that entire load the entire season.
- 22:18Speaker 4: It's like, It may happen somewhere where he slows down
- 22:24Speaker 4: or something.
- 22:24Speaker 2: But Pacheco is out.
- 22:28Speaker 4: We got some other running backs there that they're going
- 22:29Speaker 4: to have to step up, establish the run game. And
- 22:36Speaker 4: Brian Flores is still going to blitz. But if you
- 22:39Speaker 4: establish the run game, you can tire the defense out.
- 22:42Speaker 4: But then that actually opens up what Jarrett does well,
- 22:45Speaker 4: which is play action. And then that gets guys like Laporta, J-Mo,
- 22:50Speaker 4: and St. Brown into the mix. And I think they're
- 22:53Speaker 4: going to try to include Tesla this week as well.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Exactly. Because speaking on quarterbacks here now, we were kind
- 23:01Speaker 3: of talking beforehand, me and Jelani, about the Vikings issues
- 23:05Speaker 3: here at quarterback. And now kind of, you know, locally
- 23:08Speaker 3: here in Minnesota, I've been listening all day, you know,
- 23:11Speaker 3: working my regular job and stuff, listening to some podcasts
- 23:14Speaker 3: and stuff. Everybody here, Jelani, I mean, you've seen Kyler Murray.
- 23:19Speaker 3: You've seen him play. And, man, it is becoming kind
- 23:23Speaker 3: of a– well, I don't want to say becoming. It's
- 23:27Speaker 3: an issue now for a lot of Vikings fans because
- 23:32Speaker 3: this is the weirdest thing I've seen. We're 6-0. Who
- 23:34Speaker 3: wouldn't want to be undefeated yet? this quarterback play is
- 23:40Speaker 3: highly suspect. And obviously I don't think it's sustainable. I
- 23:43Speaker 3: don't think it's going to get you to where you
- 23:45Speaker 3: need to be. Ultimately, if you can't put some points
- 23:47Speaker 3: on the board, especially with Justin Jefferson sitting out there going,
- 23:51Speaker 3: who's throwing me the ball, you know, and that's why,
- 23:55Speaker 3: you know, I look at golf and like you just said,
- 23:57Speaker 3: what he's able to do, excuse me, especially in the
- 24:00Speaker 3: play action, man, I, I am very concerned about this
- 24:04Speaker 3: game this weekend with your lions.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Well, yeah, because we owe y'all. We owe y'all one.
- 24:10Speaker 4: But this Minnesota team, like you said, Kyler Murray, I
- 24:16Speaker 4: get exactly what you're saying because, Vince, I'll be honest.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I woke up.
- 24:22Speaker 4: After week five, and I looked, and I said, the
- 24:24Speaker 4: Vikings are 5-0?
- 24:26Speaker 3: Johnny, I did, too. I did, too. The exact same thing.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Exact same. Yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 4: So I get your concern because it is concern.
- 24:37Speaker 2: You know I like the reference stuff.
- 24:40Speaker 4: This kind of feels like last year a little bit
- 24:44Speaker 4: for the Colts.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Remember, the Colts got out to a great start.
- 24:47Speaker 4: And everybody was singing Daniel Jones's praises and, you know,
- 24:51Speaker 4: and all this stuff. And then they lost a game.
- 24:53Speaker 4: And then next thing you know, they lost another game.
- 24:55Speaker 4: And then they didn't win another game.
- 24:57Speaker 2: For the rest of the season.
- 24:59Speaker 4: Also, like you said, with Kyler in this, I guess
- 25:03Speaker 4: we can call it struggles that he's having at the
- 25:06Speaker 4: position right now.
- 25:08Speaker 2: You got to look at, too, is.
- 25:10Speaker 4: That the last four games that Minnesota has played, It's
- 25:16Speaker 4: been Indianapolis, the Dolphins, the Saints, and I forgot, I
- 25:22Speaker 4: think Tampa. Those teams collectively are 7-20 on the season.
- 25:29Speaker 4: And I get what you're saying because you're looking at
- 25:32Speaker 4: it like if Kyler is struggling against these teams, what's
- 25:37Speaker 4: going to happen when we run into Seattle?
- 25:40Speaker 2: What's going to happen?
- 25:41Speaker 3: Detroit, I mean. Honestly, Jelani, this is now where our
- 25:45Speaker 3: schedule turns.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:47Speaker 3: And we are going into a very, very hard, deep
- 25:51Speaker 3: part of our schedule here for the next few weeks.
- 25:54Speaker 4: And that's where everything is going to come to the
- 25:57Speaker 4: forefront or the crossroads because those teams that I just mentioned,
- 26:03Speaker 4: even the Packers and the Bears, which was the first
- 26:06Speaker 4: two weeks, they won those games, but none of those
- 26:09Speaker 4: teams– They've had an Aiden Hutchinson or a McNeil.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Trying to, you know, kill the quarterback.
- 26:19Speaker 3: And I'm blowing the name, but Chicago made a major
- 26:21Speaker 3: trade today. Defensive lineman.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Jeffrey Simmons.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Hate them guys, man.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Dude, I mean, literally one of the best players out there.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:32Speaker 3: But, hey, you know, if you're a Chicago fan, that's
- 26:34Speaker 3: what you want to see.
- 26:35Speaker 2: That is.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Let's make a move, especially you want us to, you know,
- 26:38Speaker 3: build new stadiums and stuff.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 3: You got to win some games here. All right, folks. Again,
- 26:44Speaker 3: Jelani Bodie here. Just a couple more minutes with him. Jelani,
- 26:49Speaker 3: you know, Detroit has been on top actually here recently
- 26:52Speaker 3: in this division. Just what are your thoughts about where
- 26:56Speaker 3: this team is now? You know, division championships, a little
- 27:01Speaker 3: bit of a setback last year. But, you know, outside
- 27:04Speaker 3: of this Vikings game, just in general, how are you
- 27:06Speaker 3: feeling about this year's Lions squad?
- 27:09Speaker 4: I'm feeling better and better and better as each week
- 27:13Speaker 4: goes on because what I've been harping on is getting
- 27:17Speaker 4: past these first four weeks.
- 27:19Speaker 2: And it showed.
- 27:21Speaker 4: We got Brian Branch back last week. He gets an
- 27:25Speaker 4: interception right off the bat. And Kirby Joseph is back
- 27:30Speaker 4: on the field for us. So our back end is
- 27:33Speaker 4: what's been talked about a lot this season from everybody. is,
- 27:39Speaker 4: is now that's solidified. You got your, your two safeties
- 27:42Speaker 4: that's back there. And I just think it allows the
- 27:44Speaker 4: rest of the, uh, the rest of that secondary to
- 27:48Speaker 4: really play the position of what they were supposed to
- 27:50Speaker 4: be playing. Uh, anyway, and then that communication just, you know,
- 27:55Speaker 4: and how, um, Shep is going, is going to call,
- 27:59Speaker 4: you know, the defense and everything. So I think, you know,
- 28:02Speaker 4: we're getting healthy. Uh, we'll get a couple other guys back, uh,
- 28:06Speaker 4: We'll get Pacheco back, hopefully sooner than later, just to
- 28:10Speaker 4: help out with the with the running back situation. So
- 28:14Speaker 4: I like where we're at. I really felt we should
- 28:17Speaker 4: have been five and one. We gave one away to
- 28:19Speaker 4: the Panthers. In my eyes, they won.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not.
- 28:24Speaker 4: But I think, you know, we didn't do ourselves any
- 28:27Speaker 4: favor in that in that game. So I like where
- 28:29Speaker 4: they're at. I still got them double digit wins. I
- 28:31Speaker 4: think they can win the division until the Bears prove it.
- 28:34Speaker 4: We got their number. We swept them last year. So
- 28:36Speaker 4: they're going to have to prove it to us. And
- 28:41Speaker 4: back to the playoffs and back to talking about Super Bowl.
- 28:45Speaker 3: OK, OK, there you go. I like your I like
- 28:48Speaker 3: the confidence in your squad.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Biggest obstacles for your team to not make the playoffs.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Is there anything out there? I mean, besides injuries, you know,
- 29:01Speaker 3: I haven't looked at Detroit's schedule here, but you know,
- 29:04Speaker 3: schedule wise, you like the way things lining up here
- 29:07Speaker 3: and long as they stay healthy should make that run
- 29:10Speaker 3: towards the playoffs. Yeah.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Cause our schedule is, as they say.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Favorable, but They got games that they that they should
- 29:21Speaker 4: be winning on it.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But the biggest obstacle, I would say, is, yeah, definitely.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Staying healthy, but maintaining or containing a mobile quarterback. As
- 29:33Speaker 4: you saw when we played against the Buffalo Bills, as
- 29:36Speaker 4: you saw when we played against Carolina Panthers, Bryce and John.
- 29:40Speaker 4: mobile quarterbacks, when they can extend the play, that's where
- 29:46Speaker 4: we get in trouble. So to me, that's our biggest
- 29:49Speaker 4: thing is that we're going to have to get home
- 29:50Speaker 4: quick or we're going to have to, on the back end,
- 29:55Speaker 4: hold just an extra second or two you know, to
- 29:58Speaker 4: give that defense or just maybe throw away the.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Ball or something like that.
- 30:03Speaker 4: But mobile quarterback, that's going to be our thing we
- 30:05Speaker 4: need to get through.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Well, you got one coming up this week. You know,
- 30:09Speaker 3: I was looking at Kyler's stats here. 812 passing yards,
- 30:13Speaker 3: three touchdowns, two interceptions. And he just, he has to
- 30:18Speaker 3: find a way to get the ball to Justin Jefferson.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Ain't that crazy? You got to find a way. Man!
- 30:26Speaker 2: You got to find a way.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Find a way to get the ball to Justin Jefferson.
- 30:31Speaker 3: I mean, yeah. And yet this team is undefeated.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Remember, that was the conversation about Kyler in Arizona. Find
- 30:40Speaker 4: a way to get the ball to Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 30:42Speaker 2: It's just like, I don't understand.
- 30:48Speaker 3: I don't know, man. Marvin Harrison, he might have a
- 30:50Speaker 3: little bit of his father in him. He might be
- 30:52Speaker 3: a little bit out there. Obviously, they got rid of him,
- 30:55Speaker 3: but let me ask you this, Jelani, here. A couple
- 30:58Speaker 3: more minutes with Jelani Bode before we let him go. Jelani,
- 31:04Speaker 3: give me your thoughts on the Minnesota Vikings. Just kind
- 31:07Speaker 3: of someone from the outside there. We've been talking about
- 31:11Speaker 3: the quarterback issues there, but You know, just give me
- 31:14Speaker 3: a quick minute or two on what you're seeing from
- 31:16Speaker 3: our Minnesota Vikings.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Man.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Boy, you sound just like a Vikings fan.
- 31:27Speaker 4: It is. It's one of those things of what is missing.
- 31:34Speaker 4: What are we missing? Because it looks like y'all got
- 31:37Speaker 4: the coach. You know, y'all got, we just talked about
- 31:41Speaker 4: Justin Jeffries. You definitely got, you know, the player. it's like,
- 31:45Speaker 4: what are we missing?
- 31:46Speaker 2: You got the defense. I think the number one defense,
- 31:49Speaker 2: you know, in the league right now.
- 31:50Speaker 3: We're missing the quarterback.
- 31:52Speaker 2: And that could be what it is.
- 31:54Speaker 4: And I just look at over the past few years
- 31:59Speaker 4: is that for whatever reason, Kirk left.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Either they let him go or he won, whatever.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Can I stop you right there for just a second
- 32:08Speaker 3: since you mentioned Kirk Cousins? Because this is gaining traction
- 32:12Speaker 3: up here. Of available quarterbacks, because it seems like, you know,
- 32:18Speaker 3: the Raiders may be okay with, okay, let's maybe move
- 32:21Speaker 3: ahead with this Fernando. You know, it's fair. Just let's
- 32:25Speaker 3: go get it going. And Kurt, you know, because it's
- 32:29Speaker 3: playing well down there, of course.
- 32:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:31Speaker 3: And he's actually of a group of available quarterbacks for
- 32:35Speaker 3: the Vikings. One of the stations up here said, you know,
- 32:38Speaker 3: he's obviously at the top of the list, actually. Mm hmm.
- 32:41Speaker 3: So it's just funny you mention him because there's an
- 32:44Speaker 3: actual little movement to maybe, just maybe, bring Kirk Cousins
- 32:48Speaker 3: back to the Vikings.
- 32:51Speaker 2: I think he might be willing to do that.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Because he wanted to play.
- 32:56Speaker 4: And, you know, because I heard the Eagles, you know,
- 33:00Speaker 4: because they definitely, you know, need a veteran quarterback. But
- 33:04Speaker 4: I think it's more of who's going to be there.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Because if it's just– him and Saquon, Kurt going to
- 33:12Speaker 4: be like, no. So I could, I could see him
- 33:15Speaker 4: going back to, to Minnesota.
- 33:17Speaker 2: They. Yeah.
- 33:19Speaker 3: I mean, it's all their comfort level, you know, the coach.
- 33:24Speaker 2: You know, Justin got the football.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Justin definitely got the football. Yeah. Yeah, man. So I,
- 33:30Speaker 3: I just, as soon as you said his name, that's,
- 33:33Speaker 3: you know, that whole thing I was hearing today and
- 33:35Speaker 3: actually last night listening to some stuff too.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Starting to get some traction up here.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Yeah, and he's struggling a little bit right now, but,
- 33:44Speaker 4: you know, you let Sam walk, and then.
- 33:49Speaker 2: The jury is still out.
- 33:51Speaker 4: But when they traded J.J., I was like, okay, because
- 33:55Speaker 4: you brought in Kyler. And I'm like, okay, no knock
- 33:59Speaker 4: on Kyler or anything, but it's not like they brought
- 34:02Speaker 4: in Josh Allen or.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Somebody like that.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Right. You know, and... I guess there was these rumors
- 34:09Speaker 4: in the back that, that JJ maybe had a stank
- 34:13Speaker 4: attitude or whatever, you know, that, that was going on
- 34:16Speaker 4: and maybe that played a part, you know, in it,
- 34:19Speaker 4: but to just let him go.
- 34:21Speaker 2: And then we see what he did with the giants
- 34:24Speaker 2: on it.
- 34:24Speaker 4: Just, it's like, you got these quarterbacks, you letting lead
- 34:28Speaker 4: the camp and they seem to be having success elsewhere.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Like, What is going on? Why is this happening?
- 34:37Speaker 3: Well, you hit on it because people are like, you know, KOC,
- 34:40Speaker 3: you know, it's called the quarterback whisperer.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, I mean, it's going on deaf ears
- 34:50Speaker 2: right now.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Man, it's just one of the weirdest times up here, Jelani,
- 34:55Speaker 3: to have an undefeated team like we've been talking about
- 34:58Speaker 3: here the past 20 minutes. And to just feel this
- 35:02Speaker 3: sense of dread and just all the kind of negative
- 35:06Speaker 3: emotions as well. And I got to keep looking and
- 35:08Speaker 3: it says, yeah, it's 6-0, 6-0.
- 35:10Speaker 4: They're waiting for when it's going to happen. I think
- 35:14Speaker 4: that's where Viking fans are like, when is it going
- 35:16Speaker 4: to happen?
- 35:17Speaker 3: Yeah, because I can see golf and your squad coming
- 35:20Speaker 3: up here offensively, you know, maybe finding that way against
- 35:25Speaker 3: the Vikings defense. I mean, how often can we go
- 35:27Speaker 3: to the well with the defense? you know, to get
- 35:31Speaker 3: these victories and stuff as well. I mean, you know,
- 35:33Speaker 3: they're going to have injuries. They may break down a
- 35:36Speaker 3: game or two here and there. So just a weird
- 35:39Speaker 3: time up here in Vikings land, my friend. And, you know, that's, again,
- 35:43Speaker 3: why I wanted to reach out to you because, you know,
- 35:45Speaker 3: when we play Detroit, we always got to talk to Jelani.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Amen. Well, Jelani, thank you for your time, brother. Almost
- 35:53Speaker 3: half hour in. I'm going to let you go. All right.
- 35:55Speaker 3: But before I do.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Give me that ever-popular prediction, sir.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I knew you was going to ask that.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Minnesota, Detroit.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Oh, man. You know what?
- 36:06Speaker 4: The defense did a heck of a job, even though
- 36:09Speaker 4: Green Bay helped out with missing field goals and dropping
- 36:12Speaker 4: TD passes. So I'm going to say 24-21 Detroit.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 36:21Speaker 3: I mean, listen, man, I could definitely see that. I
- 36:24Speaker 3: will say, boy. Okay, there's a lot of hope and
- 36:29Speaker 3: prayer in this pick as well. Yeah, and fingers crossed
- 36:32Speaker 3: all that. Vikings 27, Detroit 20.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Okay.
- 36:39Speaker 3: And Justin Jefferson has two touchdowns.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Now finally find him, okay.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Finally find him. And so what they were talking about
- 36:47Speaker 3: up here, Jelani, on one of the shows is that,
- 36:50Speaker 3: you know, Jefferson is really good in the intermediate routes,
- 36:56Speaker 3: 10 to 20 yards, and then he'll wind up breaking
- 36:58Speaker 3: some and, you know, getting all that extra yardage. It's
- 37:02Speaker 3: supposed to be where Kyler is kind of his hot
- 37:05Speaker 3: spot as well, but it has just not happened. You know,
- 37:08Speaker 3: and then he just gets back there and he's flummoxed
- 37:11Speaker 3: and he's running all over the place. And, yeah, he
- 37:12Speaker 3: can scramble and get you some yards for sure. But, yeah, man,
- 37:16Speaker 3: this is just– this was the game and this is
- 37:19Speaker 3: why I wanted you on because I think– If the
- 37:23Speaker 3: Vikings do lose the game, it might be this one.
- 37:26Speaker 3: It might be this one just because Detroit's got some weapons.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Well, they got weapons. They got weapons.
- 37:32Speaker 4: But two other things that I think that they got
- 37:35Speaker 4: is that, one, Detroit has already played Kyler before in Arizona.
- 37:40Speaker 2: And who was Kyler's OC when he was in Arizona?
- 37:45Speaker 3: There you go.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Drew Petsing, our OC.
- 37:48Speaker 4: So I'm sure he is telling them. This is what
- 37:53Speaker 4: you need to do against Kyler.
- 37:56Speaker 3: All right. All right, Jelani. I'm going to let you go, boss. Again,

- 38:44Speaker 3: you have it, man. We'll see what happens this weekend.
