- Lucas: Welcome back to another episode of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is so good to be here with you again. Lucas: Yes. We are picking up right where we left off. Last time we talked about sewing and embroidery. Luna: Right. Sewing and embroidering. That was very creative. Lucas: It was. But today, we are going to talk about something a bit more... atmospheric. Luna: Atmospheric? Oh, I like that. What do you mean? Lucas: We are going to talk about light and dark. In Norwegian, there are two key words for this. Luna: Okay. Light and dark. Let me guess. Is it 'lys' and 'mørk'? Lucas: You are smart. Yes. 'Lys' means light or bright. And 'mørk' means dark. Luna: Okay. So 'lys' is light. And 'mørk' is dark. Lucas: Exactly. But we don't just say the word alone. We use them in phrases to describe the world. Luna: Oh, okay. Like sentences? Can we try one? Lucas: We can. The first phrase is: det er lyst ute. Luna: Det er lyst ute. What does that mean? Lucas: It means 'it is light outside'. Or 'it is bright outside'. 'Ute' means outside. Luna: Det er lyst ute. It is light outside. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's look at the opposite. Det er mørkt ute. Luna: Det er mørkt ute. It is dark outside. Lucas: Yes. Very simple. One describes the sun, one describes the night. Luna: I see. So if I wake up and it is morning, I say det er lyst ute. Lucas: Correct. And if I go to bed late, I say det er mørkt ute. Luna: That makes sense. It is a very practical way to start a conversation. Lucas: It is. And before we go deeper, I want to mention something important. Luna: What is it? Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, your support matters. Luna: It really does. It keeps the show running. Lucas: A couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these episodes going. Luna: Yeah. It allows us to keep making content for you. Lucas: You can find us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. If you have gotten something out of our lessons. Luna: We appreciate it. But no pressure at all. Just if you want to help. Lucas: Thanks, Luna. Okay, back to the light. Luna: Right. Back to lys and mørk. Lucas: There are some nice combinations we can make. For example: lyst og godt. Luna: Lyst og godt. What does that mean? Lucas: It means 'bright and good'. Or 'light and pleasant'. 'Godt' means good. Luna: Lyst og godt. Bright and good. Lucas: Yes. It is a cozy phrase. Used when the weather is nice. Luna: Oh, I like that. Lyst og godt. It sounds happy. Lucas: It is. Now, let's try the dark version. Mørkt og stille. Luna: Mørkt og stille. Dark and quiet. Lucas: Exactly. 'Stille' means quiet. So it is dark and quiet outside. Luna: Mørkt og stille. That sounds peaceful. Lucas: It can be. Especially after a long day. Luna: I think I will use that one tonight. Lucas: Good choice. Now, let's move inside. Instead of 'ute', we can say 'i rommet'. Luna: I rommet? In the room? Lucas: Yes. So, lys i rommet. Light in the room. Luna: Lys i rommet. Light in the room. Lucas: Perfect. And the opposite? Luna: Mørke i hjertet? No, wait. Mørke i rommet. Lucas: Mørke i rommet. Dark in the room. Good job. Luna: Mørke i rommet. Dark in the room. Lucas: Yes. These phrases help you describe your environment. Luna: They do. But I also heard you say something else earlier. Lucas: Did I? What was it? Luna: Mørke i hjertet. Dark in the heart. Lucas: Ah, yes. Mørke i hjertet. That is a metaphorical phrase. Luna: Oh, I see. Not literal darkness. But sad feelings? Lucas: Exactly. It means sadness or gloom inside. Emotional darkness. Luna: Mørke i hjertet. That is quite poetic. Lucas: It is. Norwegian loves these metaphors. Lys and mørk work on many levels. Luna: I love that. So we have physical light and emotional light. Lucas: Yes. Let's review the main ones quickly. Luna: Okay. Det er lyst ute. Lucas: It is light outside. Luna: Det er mørkt ute. Lucas: It is dark outside. Luna: Lyst og godt. Lucas: Bright and good. Luna: Mørkt og stille. Lucas: Dark and quiet. Luna: Lys i rommet. Lucas: Light in the room. Luna: Mørke i hjertet. Lucas: Darkness in the heart. Luna: Those were great. I feel much more comfortable with lys and mørk now. Lucas: Me too. They are such useful words to know. Luna: Yes. Especially here in Norway where the light changes so much. Lucas: True. From bright summers to dark winters. Luna: So these phrases are always relevant. Lucas: Always. Practice them a bit. Say them out loud. Luna: Det er lyst ute. Det er mørkt ute. Lucas: Perfect. You are doing great, Luna. Luna: Thank you, Lucas. I am having fun learning this. Lucas: That is what we hope for. Keep listening, keep practicing. Luna: See you next time. Bye! Lucas: Bye everyone.
