- Sean Graver: You asked for Sundays off politely, more than once, and somehow you're on the schedule again. Hey, I'm Sean, and this is prayer before work. You know, God gives Moses this instruction way back in the book of Exodus. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, and that's from Exodus chapter twenty verse eight. And later the writer of Hebrews adds something practical to it. Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another. And that's from Hebrews chapter ten, verse twenty-five. So rest and gathering with other believers aren't extras that God tacked on, they're part of how he built us. And I'm not going to pretend that this one's simple, because it usually isn't. I mean some jobs genuinely require weekend coverage, hospitals, restaurants. retail emergency services and if that's your field this isn't about quitting or refusing to work Sundays ever. It's about how you handle the specific situation of a schedule that keeps landing on the one day you've asked to protect, especially when you've had that conversation more than once. Now a few things worth doing in order. First, ask directly And specifically. Not I'd prefer Sundays off, but here's exactly what I need and why. Because vague requests get vague results. Now second, if it keeps happening after you've made clear requests, well that's worth a conversation with your manager, not just frustration that builds into the surface. And third, I I think this is the harder one. Be willing to ask yourself whether there's a version of faithfulness that doesn't require this specific job, if it truly can't accommodate something this important to you. I mean, God doesn't need you to have a perfect attendance record to love you, but he does care that you have rhythm in your life, time to worship, time to rest, time with people who remind you who you are outside of work. And if your job is making that physically impossible despite your best efforts, well, that's information worth taking seriously. Well, let's pray. Lord, you built rest and worship into the rhythm of being human. And we don't want to lose that trying to keep everyone else happy. Give us the courage to ask clearly for what we need and the wisdom to know. What to do if the answer continues to be a no. I mean help us protect the things that keep us close to you, even when it's inconvenient for the schedule. In Jesus' name, amen. And go make today count.
