- 1:18Speaker 3: while we're waiting on some of those questions to come in,
- 1:21Speaker 3: I'm gonna catch up on the chat here. Flenda wants
- 1:24Speaker 3: them to work out in the afternoon so they have
- 1:26Speaker 3: to buy more of my high.
- 1:28Speaker 4: There all the my huh, that's hot in the morning too,
- 1:38Speaker 4: Let's be honest.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I was waiting on the sales pitch.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Yeah is good anytime any temperature, even more so when
- 1:46Speaker 4: it's cold. That's a little chilling baton rooster today, how
- 1:48Speaker 4: about that?
- 1:49Speaker 3: So I had like a shorts and short sleep shirt,
- 1:51Speaker 3: which I never do. I was like, I'm tired of
- 1:53Speaker 3: being hot, and I go outside and I'm like, oh,
- 1:55Speaker 3: I at least gotta grab a.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Hoodie something to see.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I always check my watch, got the temperatures right there,
- 2:02Speaker 4: and I look down expecting to see like, you know,
- 2:05Speaker 4: sixty eight degrees right now, high eighty four nope, said
- 2:09Speaker 4: fifty four.
- 2:11Speaker 3: All right, let's go ahead and get to some oh
- 2:15Speaker 3: TB mail bag.
- 2:19Speaker 5: I help this special delivery for the bench and look
- 2:21Speaker 5: it is marked most urgent.
- 2:23Speaker 2: We'll be writing to you the internet. What the is
- 2:26Speaker 2: the internet?
- 2:38Speaker 3: Hashtag oh to be mailbag? If the early bird gets
- 2:42Speaker 3: the worm? Why do good things come to those who wait?
- 2:48Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Good one. Worm's not always good. Wire's not always good.
- 2:53Speaker 2: That's a good point.
- 2:54Speaker 7: I mean, that's a good point.
- 2:55Speaker 4: It just because it's a worm doesn't mean it's a
- 2:57Speaker 4: good worms.
- 2:58Speaker 8: True.
- 2:59Speaker 3: It could just be a matter of survible because you
- 3:01Speaker 3: haven't eaten, right, not good yep.
- 3:05Speaker 7: I also think they mean two different things.
- 3:08Speaker 6: The early bird gets the worm, like you take the initiative, right,
- 3:12Speaker 6: mm hmm.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Good things come to those who wait. Just be patient.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, take the initiative. Yeah, also be patient. Yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 7: No, but that's a great question.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Do less.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Hash I'd never thought about that. That's a greatreat question
- 3:27Speaker 3: and blows the mind. Hashtag go to be mail bag?
- 3:29Speaker 3: Are we there yet? No?
- 3:32Speaker 2: No, we're not there? Cons never any self improvement?
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yes, hashtag go to be mail bag. Did Matt put
- 3:37Speaker 3: on his flashers this morning?
- 3:39Speaker 8: No?
- 3:39Speaker 3: But I bet he did last night.
- 3:40Speaker 7: You probably did.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Wherever he was, wherever he was going. He had a
- 3:44Speaker 2: morning dawn.
- 3:46Speaker 4: I don't feel like we get light light light rains
- 3:50Speaker 4: or light thunderstorms anymore. Like thunderstorms used to be more prevalent,
- 3:55Speaker 4: you know, a decade or two ago. Remember like as
- 3:58Speaker 4: a child, there's thunderstorms all every summer, but like it
- 4:01Speaker 4: wasn't sheets of rain as well, Like you'd get a
- 4:04Speaker 4: moderate rain with a thunderstorm. Well, we got a thunderstorm today.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Like me and my wife are fired up. We love
- 4:08Speaker 4: sleeping in a thunder something.
- 4:10Speaker 7: It's the best.
- 4:11Speaker 4: It's the best. But like, does it gotta come down
- 4:14Speaker 4: that hard? You know, it's all or nothing right now
- 4:17Speaker 4: with the weather.
- 4:17Speaker 9: Well that's the thing around here, Like it won't rain
- 4:20Speaker 9: for a month and a half, then it'll pour every
- 4:22Speaker 9: day for like six days.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yep, how does it go with last night?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Then we get in the end, he gets.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Fire ants coming out. I'll be walking around my yard
- 4:32Speaker 4: spreading that firewood poison, fire ant poison whatever.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I say, why are you poisoning your firewood?
- 4:38Speaker 8: Shouldn't do that. Don't do that CAUs you're wood wet. Anyways,
- 4:44Speaker 8: I don't like that at all. I was talking about
- 4:50Speaker 8: building a fire us my gosh. Hashtag go to the mailbag.
- 4:54Speaker 8: My family is planning a vacation this summer. Any Rex
- 4:57Speaker 8: drivable from the north Shore nothing too pricey?
- 5:00Speaker 6: Wait oh anyway, Okay, I'm gonna just go with what
- 5:04Speaker 6: I know. San Antonio really is a great family spot.
- 5:07Speaker 6: That's driving oh from the north Shore. I don't actually know,
- 5:11Speaker 6: never mind.
- 5:13Speaker 9: Or something.
- 5:16Speaker 3: If you're yeah, yes, I love all. I love the
- 5:18Speaker 3: paintandle I love the beaches there. It's always fine if
- 5:22Speaker 3: you're trying to do something. Flake Martin a little bit different.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I mean Biloxi, fair Hope. Fair Hope's going.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Hotel. Yeah, and it's a it's a really nice family
- 5:38Speaker 2: Actually that might be a good answer.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I would say the Grand Hotel and fair Hope. That's
- 5:43Speaker 3: a good spot. It's a little bit closer than Pensacola
- 5:46Speaker 3: and some of the other spots. It's a little bit
- 5:48Speaker 3: closer in gold Shore. So if you don't want to
- 5:50Speaker 3: do that, which that's always a great time, let's go
- 5:53Speaker 3: to the Grand Hotel Fairhoe.
- 5:56Speaker 2: They're gonna reopen blue bye you here at some point
- 6:02Speaker 2: where you have them uh.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Hashtag OTB mail bag Why are they called a part
- 6:09Speaker 3: mints when they're connected in the same building? And why
- 6:14Speaker 3: is it called a building when it's already built because
- 6:19Speaker 3: a part?
- 6:20Speaker 7: What are what these questions apart?
- 6:23Speaker 2: Apart? They are apart?
- 6:25Speaker 9: I got it, because a compartment is one, right, but
- 6:29Speaker 9: they're separated by walls, different rooms, so they're apart from
- 6:32Speaker 9: each other in the one compartment.
- 6:33Speaker 2: They're apartments, all right.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I like it a one building, different dwellings that are
- 6:41Speaker 4: apart from each other, separated by a wall, sometimes a
- 6:44Speaker 4: thin wall, mostly than you gotta get your rois a builder?
- 6:52Speaker 2: You know?
- 6:52Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 6:56Speaker 2: What was the second part of that question? Why is
- 6:59Speaker 2: it called buildings with they already built?
- 7:00Speaker 3: They're already built.
- 7:01Speaker 2: It should be built ins.
- 7:03Speaker 7: Why is the riddler in our chat?
- 7:05Speaker 9: Right?
- 7:05Speaker 7: Now?
- 7:06Speaker 4: That's a Again, it's too early to like think too deep?
- 7:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I can't. I got nothing for you.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I'll just say just switch the D with a T.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Then it's buildings.
- 7:18Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 3: While they're asking hashtag go to me mailbag. Do you
- 7:28Speaker 3: only stay in hotels or will you stay in a motel?
- 7:32Speaker 7: I will never in my life.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I got a door on the outside, no situation.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a motel.
- 7:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm not doing it.
- 7:40Speaker 4: But I mean you would consider, like not all motels
- 7:43Speaker 4: have to have the door on the outside, right.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I thought that's what. Yeah, I mean maybe it's not.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I thought it just like a long two story situation.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Sometimes there would be a hallway, Okay, motel would be
- 7:57Speaker 4: door on the outside.
- 7:59Speaker 2: All right.
- 8:00Speaker 7: That one thing about me, I'll pay for comfort.
- 8:03Speaker 2: It's true. M last time I did a motel.
- 8:14Speaker 7: I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel.
- 8:16Speaker 4: I think if I think I was driving from Batonies
- 8:20Speaker 4: to Green Bay at some point, probably with my dog.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I remember growing up, like going to like any All
- 8:28Speaker 3: Star Baseball tournament, like the team would in the hotel.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I remember being like maybe in the middle of nowhere Illinois.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Illinois is a real long state from top to bottom
- 8:37Speaker 4: in there a while, and like I was falling asleep.
- 8:40Speaker 4: It was like three in the morning. I was like
- 8:41Speaker 4: falling asleep. I was like, I gotta find so I can't.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I is not safe in my first thing I found
- 8:45Speaker 4: was a motel.
- 8:48Speaker 2: That's such a good point.
- 8:50Speaker 10: Uh.
- 8:50Speaker 9: The MSA and the check gos Disney calls those resorts
- 8:53Speaker 9: like all Star resort just motels what it is.
- 8:57Speaker 3: There's a ludicrous song in there. But I'm not gonna
- 8:59Speaker 3: get in trouble here for they keep one seeing it,
- 9:01Speaker 3: I'm gonna move on.
- 9:02Speaker 2: It'll turn a mow into a motel.
- 9:04Speaker 3: That's right. Hashtag OTB mailbag. Did Matt swap his winter
- 9:10Speaker 3: flashers for spring flashers yet?
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't know what that means your lights?
- 9:16Speaker 7: I think everybody wants to know how you do you
- 9:18Speaker 7: replace your flasher?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Fluid hasher flight. I'm here for a check up. Yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 2: what do you need? Make sure my flashers are working?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Like you actually use these? I mean you're the one,
- 9:33Speaker 2: You're the one that's the safest.
- 9:38Speaker 3: This is more of a comment than a question. Bloxi
- 9:40Speaker 3: is basically Vegas for LP folks.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, dang it is.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Hot Springs, Arkansas was another one I was gonna throw
- 9:47Speaker 3: out there too. That's a little bit of a drive
- 9:49Speaker 3: from the north Shore.
- 9:51Speaker 2: We did Hot Springs a couple of two years ago,
- 9:56Speaker 2: had a great time.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Let's it going. How far is that drive? Do you remember?
- 10:00Speaker 4: Uh?
- 10:00Speaker 2: It was six and six. I know I was about
- 10:04Speaker 2: to say six or seven.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Mm?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Yeah the six seven done? Is it over? I hope, sir?
- 10:13Speaker 2: This is a five thing.
- 10:16Speaker 4: It's amazing how many times I use those two numbers concurrently,
- 10:20Speaker 4: like it's it's incredible, it's used so much.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Probably why I became a thing.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Any place you go it is, it is what you
- 10:36Speaker 2: make it.
- 10:38Speaker 4: You can have a good time anywhere with the right people,
- 10:41Speaker 4: right attitude, right mindset.
- 10:43Speaker 3: The motel steven says, I used to draft to Chicago
- 10:46Speaker 3: a lot, had a brother that lived there. I remember
- 10:48Speaker 3: taking my cousin with me once and she got excited
- 10:51Speaker 3: when we got to Illinois state line, thinking we were
- 10:54Speaker 3: almost there.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not it's a it's deep. It's a long boy,
- 10:57Speaker 2: it's a long play.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Always would time my drive to where whether I was
- 11:01Speaker 4: driving from Green Bay to Batteries or Batteries to green Bay,
- 11:03Speaker 4: a time to drive up to where I hit Chicago
- 11:06Speaker 4: in the middle of the night. The Chicago traffic was
- 11:10Speaker 4: a bear and get.
- 11:12Speaker 3: It not for long think I moved to Indiana.
- 11:15Speaker 2: It's true, but it was.
- 11:16Speaker 4: It was it was rough, so usually by when I
- 11:19Speaker 4: was going through Illinois, it was dark, middle of the night,
- 11:23Speaker 4: so it was it was a long boy.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Hashtag go to be mail bag. What's the first and
- 11:36Speaker 3: last eight digits of your debit card?
- 11:40Speaker 2: You don't want it. You don't want it.
- 11:46Speaker 7: Yeah, I ain't got no money. You're not gonna You're not.

- 12:04Speaker 2: they're wondering.
- 12:05Speaker 9: Oh yeah, end of an era, guys, Big Red's gone.
- 12:08Speaker 9: It's gone out the driveway yesterday.
- 12:11Speaker 2: It's a big deal. It's to say good bye to

- 19:14Speaker 5: see the commander's spouse on Saturday night.
- 19:16Speaker 2: So nice.
- 19:17Speaker 5: I've been commanders in like, I don't know, fifteen or
- 19:20Speaker 5: twenty years, and I met the chef down there the
- 19:23Speaker 5: other day. I was in New Orleans and she's incredible,
- 19:26Speaker 5: and I'm looking forward to spending the weekend in Orleans
- 19:29Speaker 5: this weekend.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Hey, you just made her and now you're calling her
- 19:31Speaker 2: a favor.
- 19:32Speaker 5: That's right, Yeah, that's right.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I love that. Okay, I love this question as well.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Hashtag munchies. How sloppy was Joe to get a sandwich
- 19:45Speaker 3: named after him?
- 19:50Speaker 5: The best question? You know, he had to be pretty full. Yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 5: that's a great question. Yeah, you know, I mean I've
- 20:05Speaker 5: I've partaken of many a sloppy Joe and that song
- 20:07Speaker 5: has never crossed my mind. Man, And now I feel
- 20:10Speaker 5: like I've just been shorting myself, you know, by not
- 20:13Speaker 5: thinking deeper about the foods.
- 20:14Speaker 4: So great question, No, chef, I know you can make
- 20:17Speaker 4: any time of like culinary delight. You can go fancy,
- 20:20Speaker 4: you can go.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Whatever it is.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Have you ever one of your athty tables? Have you
- 20:26Speaker 4: ever served a sloppy jew?
- 20:29Speaker 5: I mean, uh, I think we actually did at some point.
- 20:33Speaker 5: I think, like during COVID we did. We were we
- 20:36Speaker 5: were kind of focusing on comfort foods, and I believe
- 20:39Speaker 5: it was like a special request, like somebody specifically requested it,
- 20:44Speaker 5: and if if, if that's the case, we will. But
- 20:47Speaker 5: I don't. I don't typically go out of my way
- 20:48Speaker 5: to serve fluppyjos, you know, like, uh, do you guys
- 20:52Speaker 5: remember the Adam Sandler song lunch Lady? You know, like
- 20:56Speaker 5: every time I see a sloppy Joe, that song comes
- 20:59Speaker 5: into my head and I have a little Harry warp
- 21:01Speaker 5: pop out of my face.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I love it. What a What a great reference there,
- 21:15Speaker 3: hashtag munchies. I'm only Daniel Fast for lent, which basically
- 21:19Speaker 3: means that I am a vegan without caffeine. Any good
- 21:22Speaker 3: vegan recipes that you enjoy?
- 21:26Speaker 5: Daniel Fast every year between between Thanksgiving and Christmas and
- 21:30Speaker 5: being a chef going on the Daniel Fast between in
- 21:34Speaker 5: that specific time frame is extraordinarily difficult. So kudos to
- 21:38Speaker 5: whoever that person is. That's uh, it's taking that task on,
- 21:43Speaker 5: you know. For me, the Daniel Fast meant lots of
- 21:46Speaker 5: nuts and a variety of nuts because if you eat
- 21:48Speaker 5: too many almonds, like you can actually do yourself, uh,
- 21:54Speaker 5: it can actually have a bad impact on your on
- 21:56Speaker 5: your body. So variety is important, lots of different colors
- 22:00Speaker 5: for me. Also when it says fruits and vegetables, you know,
- 22:05Speaker 5: like I take that to the extraordinary. I eat a
- 22:07Speaker 5: lot of fruit and vegetables. You know, there's there was
- 22:12Speaker 5: no protein involved in it, and I drank fruit juice
- 22:18Speaker 5: as well. It's it's been a few months since I
- 22:20Speaker 5: did this, but I'm getting kind of PTSD from it
- 22:22Speaker 5: because I found out that I was diabetic coming off
- 22:25Speaker 5: the off the back end of it, because I went
- 22:28Speaker 5: from fasting to going back to my full bore self
- 22:32Speaker 5: and it's sent my body into like a panic, you know,
- 22:36Speaker 5: like it And so yeah, you got to be careful
- 22:40Speaker 5: doing fast, man, because you have to mentally prepare yourself
- 22:44Speaker 5: going into it. And you have to physically be careful
- 22:46Speaker 5: coming out of it that you don't, you know, like
- 22:48Speaker 5: go back to eating too much fat and too much
- 22:52Speaker 5: you know. I also was abstaining from alcohol, so that's
- 22:57Speaker 5: I only used olive oil off the bottle vocados, you know.
- 23:02Speaker 5: And I was eating whole foods. I wasn't cooking them
- 23:04Speaker 5: too much. I was leading a lot of whole foods
- 23:06Speaker 5: because you get more nutrition out of it before it's cooked. Right,
- 23:10Speaker 5: So eating fresh avocados, fresh tomatoes, fresh stuff with balsamic
- 23:16Speaker 5: vinegar and and and olive oil, you know, nuts, copitas
- 23:22Speaker 5: are great, but you need to make sure that you're
- 23:25Speaker 5: eating fibrous foods because if you don't.
- 23:31Speaker 2: So chef you were saying that no so vegan, no alcohol,
- 23:37Speaker 2: no caffee. You all this is.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Voluntary, right, yeah, right, yeah, And it's looks walking around
- 23:43Speaker 5: a kitchen all of food. And actually, you know, my
- 23:46Speaker 5: job is to taste foods, right, So I have to
- 23:49Speaker 5: you know, I have to push that responsibility off to
- 23:51Speaker 5: other people and and and make them force them to
- 23:54Speaker 5: taste food. I mean, it's part. I mean, it's it's
- 23:56Speaker 5: we taste a lot of food in the day, brothers.
- 23:58Speaker 5: So yeah, it's it's temptation everywhere, right, So uh yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 5: there's a lot of prayer involved in specifically because it's
- 24:07Speaker 5: the Daniel Fast. You do it for religious reasons and
- 24:10Speaker 5: spiritual reasons, and so yeah, it's it's a challenge, man,
- 24:14Speaker 5: It's it's it's you're you're you're suffering, you really are,
- 24:17Speaker 5: you know, like you're and it's sometimes people take it
- 24:21Speaker 5: to the extraordinary limits. And you have to be careful
- 24:24Speaker 5: of denying yourselves things, you know, like if you're not
- 24:28Speaker 5: eating enough. I was. I was tracking my calories and
- 24:31Speaker 5: tracking my output of of caloric output as well, so
- 24:36Speaker 5: that it doesn't say you have to starve yourself. It
- 24:39Speaker 5: says you are, you know, denying yourself of these fows
- 24:42Speaker 5: to to make yourself healthier. Right, And there is some
- 24:45Speaker 5: suffering that's involved in it, but you don't want to
- 24:47Speaker 5: put yourself into partiac arrest or or you know, like
- 24:52Speaker 5: something crazy diabetic coma, you know, so you have to
- 24:56Speaker 5: be careful doing it. And I talk to my doctor
- 24:58Speaker 5: about it every year before I do it too. Because
- 25:01Speaker 5: the Daniels Fast is twenty one days, right, and so
- 25:04Speaker 5: that's that's three weeks of really you know, like you
- 25:08Speaker 5: don't get used to it until day ten, which is
- 25:10Speaker 5: about halfway through, right, and and there's some fussiness behind it, man.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Yeah, so I kind of like when you were talking
- 25:17Speaker 4: earlier about it, do you say that you had a
- 25:18Speaker 4: diagnosis that came because of it?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Like that, like it made it clear because of this fast?
- 25:24Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Well, I was eating super healthy, super healthy, super healthy
- 25:27Speaker 5: for three weeks, and then when I stopped the fast,
- 25:30Speaker 5: you know, like it was at Christmas and I went
- 25:33Speaker 5: straight back to you know, eating prime rib and drinking bourbon,
- 25:36Speaker 5: and I just you know, my body was in this
- 25:38Speaker 5: loll Like I felt like I was in mud, you know,
- 25:40Speaker 5: like I wasn't hospital or anything, but it just I
- 25:44Speaker 5: went from having all this energy and feeling great to ooh,
- 25:48Speaker 5: you know and draggy. And it was because my blood
- 25:51Speaker 5: sugar was was having such ups and downs from it,
- 25:55Speaker 5: and you know, I didn't know that I was diabetica
- 25:58Speaker 5: stuff to that point. So that that was when I
- 26:00Speaker 5: found out. Was when I came out of the past.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Dang, you found it because of it, not yeah.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Yeah, not because of it, it was, but yeah, yeah, man,
- 26:14Speaker 5: I don't.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Like after that, it's like where do you go?
- 26:19Speaker 2: You go to the good question, Yeah, what does food
- 26:23Speaker 2: art mean to you?
- 26:26Speaker 5: Well, I think that you have different purposes for food, right,
- 26:29Speaker 5: Like there's sustenance, there's socializing, and then there's art, right
- 26:34Speaker 5: and and art I think is you know, it's a gastronomy.
- 26:40Speaker 5: It's putting science and and food together to make something
- 26:44Speaker 5: not just flavorful on the on the plate, with something
- 26:47Speaker 5: beautiful on the plate. Is you know, Luisiana is well
- 26:50Speaker 5: known for jambalayas and and and gumbos and stuff like that,
- 26:53Speaker 5: but it's not necessarily artistic. If you go to if
- 26:57Speaker 5: you know, there's a there's a handful of restaurants that
- 27:00Speaker 5: I've been to that even looking at the plate, You're like,
- 27:03Speaker 5: how much did I just pay for that? And the
- 27:07Speaker 5: reason for it is is because the amount of labor
- 27:09Speaker 5: that goes into bringing the food and the and the
- 27:12Speaker 5: dish to that point is extraordinary. You know, like there's
- 27:16Speaker 5: hours of labor probably that goes into it from some
- 27:18Speaker 5: very high dollar chefs that you know, how to handle
- 27:21Speaker 5: the food that way. And so I've seen I've seen
- 27:24Speaker 5: that food on TV, you know, but very few restaurants
- 27:27Speaker 5: you see that. I mean, even at Commanders you can
- 27:30Speaker 5: get both. I think, you know, like you can get
- 27:32Speaker 5: some food art, but you can also get some comfort
- 27:34Speaker 5: food out of it, So I don't know, I tend
- 27:36Speaker 5: to go the other direction.
- 27:38Speaker 10: You know.
- 27:38Speaker 5: Food art to me is also expression so it's you know,
- 27:43Speaker 5: artistic chefs that way, they they get their expressionism through
- 27:48Speaker 5: what the plate looks like. And then I think, you know,
- 27:52Speaker 5: for other chefs, the art of it is is taking
- 27:55Speaker 5: what's inside of you and putting it into your food, right,
- 27:57Speaker 5: and it's that's that's almost more thought food, but I
- 28:01Speaker 5: think it's still an expression, right, and expressionism is kind
- 28:04Speaker 5: of ties into art, so you know, it's interpretive. I think.
- 28:09Speaker 3: All right, there he is our guy. Chef Michael Johnson,
- 28:11Speaker 3: executive chef for LSU Athletics, joined us every single week
- 28:14Speaker 3: to answer your munchie question. Chef, we appreciate it. Happy birthday,

- 30:01Speaker 1: Blocked in on LSU Football twenty four to seven. You're

- 30:15Speaker 3: Welcome back in OTB here live from the Raisin Kines studio.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Always our pleasure to have our guy Jay Johnson join us,
- 30:22Speaker 3: of course, head baseball coach for the LSU Fighting Tigers. Coach,
- 30:25Speaker 3: we appreciate hopping on with us. Hope you're doing well,
- 30:28Speaker 3: doing great. How are you guys doing fantastic? And like
- 30:31Speaker 3: I said, glad to have you back on the show.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Obviously getting ready to head to Nashville to start the SEC.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Hard to believe coach already an SEC play.
- 30:40Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm excited hopping on the bus right now, heading
- 30:43Speaker 11: over to the airport and get over there practice today
- 30:45Speaker 11: and get it going with Vanderbilt, you know, ten weekends,
- 30:50Speaker 11: highest level of baseball at least in college baseball, and
- 30:53Speaker 11: excited for that challenge.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Coach. Whenever you're going into a situation where okay, the
- 30:58Speaker 3: non con is over it's play. And you've got a
- 31:00Speaker 3: ton of players on your team that obviously have been
- 31:03Speaker 3: through it and been through the fire at the SEC.
- 31:05Speaker 3: But for the ones that haven't, be it a freshman
- 31:07Speaker 3: or be it somebody who came over through the transfer portal,
- 31:11Speaker 3: is that a hey, before we do this, you know,
- 31:14Speaker 3: maybe yesterday, the day before, whenever it is, let's have
- 31:17Speaker 3: a conversation. Make sure you're locked in because this is
- 31:19Speaker 3: about to be a ten week crime.
- 31:22Speaker 11: Yeah. I think the conversation was a little bit different
- 31:25Speaker 11: for our team the last couple you know, days, and
- 31:29Speaker 11: definitely last week of there's some steps like we need
- 31:33Speaker 11: to take, you know, to just have our own house
- 31:35Speaker 11: in order and understand that in baseball that you know,
- 31:40Speaker 11: there is some uncomfortable moments in a game, there can
- 31:45Speaker 11: be some frustration. If you let those things creep in
- 31:48Speaker 11: in the middle of trying to execute a game that's,
- 31:51Speaker 11: in my opinion, harder than any other, you have no
- 31:54Speaker 11: chance of success. And we lived in that a little
- 31:58Speaker 11: longer than we probably needed to. And now it's our
- 32:02Speaker 11: task to take that experience and turn it into you know,
- 32:07Speaker 11: I guess what I would call resilience and toughness. Learning
- 32:11Speaker 11: you know where we need to be better and then
- 32:13Speaker 11: applying that and you know, it's only been you know,
- 32:16Speaker 11: one opportunity since then.
- 32:18Speaker 10: But I thought our team did a good job of that.
- 32:20Speaker 10: On Tuesday night, we found.
- 32:22Speaker 11: Ourselves in a very similar position, but the response to
- 32:25Speaker 11: that was much higher level than what it had been
- 32:28Speaker 11: to this point in the season.
- 32:31Speaker 4: So you've certainly had probably more coaching moments than you
- 32:34Speaker 4: wanted to up to this point of the season. But
- 32:37Speaker 4: what what is a couple of things that you've specifically
- 32:41Speaker 4: worked on with the team? Yeah, I know a lot
- 32:43Speaker 4: of the things you do is you know, you're it's
- 32:46Speaker 4: the psychology of the player. You got to learn how
- 32:47Speaker 4: to fight through adversity.
- 32:49Speaker 2: But how do you do that?
- 32:50Speaker 4: Like what what is the what is has a team
- 32:52Speaker 4: come together? Like how did they kind of flip a switch?
- 32:55Speaker 4: And how do you need what? What do you need
- 32:57Speaker 4: from them going into sec play?
- 32:59Speaker 11: Yeah, I think it's showing up, you know, mindful and
- 33:02Speaker 11: then tinful for what's required. And you know, like we
- 33:06Speaker 11: were here for six hours before we even played the
- 33:10Speaker 11: game the other day, and you could look at that
- 33:13Speaker 11: as a player and you've been through that deal where
- 33:15Speaker 11: you look at the practice plan and go like, man,
- 33:18Speaker 11: this is a lot and then we're going to be
- 33:19Speaker 11: here for a four hour game and you can make
- 33:22Speaker 11: a decision like you know, the stinks and I'm not
- 33:25Speaker 11: going to invest in it and the day's probably not
- 33:28Speaker 11: going to go very good. It's like, how do you
- 33:30Speaker 11: choose to look at what's ahead of you? And we
- 33:35Speaker 11: point blank needed to get better and the only way
- 33:37Speaker 11: I know how to do that is to spend time
- 33:39Speaker 11: on it.
- 33:39Speaker 10: So that's what we did Tuesday.
- 33:41Speaker 11: I think they made a good decision on Tuesday to
- 33:44Speaker 11: understand what and why we were doing and bring the
- 33:47Speaker 11: right frame of mind to that. And then you know,
- 33:50Speaker 11: it's one game, but they were rewarded for that, and
- 33:53Speaker 11: then there's another lesson of you know, last Friday night,
- 33:56Speaker 11: we probably played the best game that we've played all
- 33:59Speaker 11: season long, but that doesn't mean you've arrived. So it's
- 34:02Speaker 11: a daily decision to do that. So moving into a
- 34:05Speaker 11: road series or SEC play, you have to make another
- 34:09Speaker 11: decision of what is this about, Like what are we
- 34:12Speaker 11: going to do and accomplish this weekend? And if you
- 34:16Speaker 11: just kind of casually do it like hey, it's another
- 34:18Speaker 11: road trip or just another deal, and don't make a decision.
- 34:22Speaker 11: You're gonna get beat if you don't. If you do,
- 34:24Speaker 11: you're gonna give yourself the best chance to be successful. So,
- 34:28Speaker 11: like you said, it's a lot of psychologies. Some of
- 34:31Speaker 11: it's just pure baseball. You know of what we need
- 34:33Speaker 11: to do better, and we'll always attack those things. And
- 34:37Speaker 11: you get better at both of them, you're gonna play
- 34:39Speaker 11: a lot better and win more games.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Guys, nobether LSU had baseball coach Jay Johnson here on
- 34:45Speaker 3: OTB a coach. On Tuesday night, you were able to
- 34:48Speaker 3: put in a leader on this team in the middle
- 34:51Speaker 3: of the game that I know you've been waiting on.
- 34:53Speaker 3: That's Chris Stanfield. He is you know, comes in as
- 34:56Speaker 3: a defensive replacement, gets in that bat on Tuesday. What
- 34:59Speaker 3: is mean to have a guy like that back? I
- 35:01Speaker 3: mean he feels like he is such a spark for
- 35:03Speaker 3: this team he was a year ago. And to slowly
- 35:06Speaker 3: work him back into the fold, Yeah.
- 35:09Speaker 10: It's a big deal. You know. Somebody said to me
- 35:14Speaker 10: when he got hurt and was going to miss some time, like, hey,
- 35:17Speaker 10: maybe this could be a good thing for us.
- 35:18Speaker 11: Get some other guys in there. I'm like, what are
- 35:21Speaker 11: you talking about? Like the guy was leading hitter on
- 35:24Speaker 11: the team and SEC play. Last year on a national
- 35:27Speaker 11: championship team, he led the SEC in doubles and he's
- 35:30Speaker 11: elite defensive outfielder and brings a lot of intangibles to
- 35:34Speaker 11: the table. And you know, this team probably needs and
- 35:38Speaker 11: needed his presence right more than even last year's team.
- 35:42Speaker 11: And he was one of the vital pieces of why
- 35:45Speaker 11: we have a championship trophy, a flag and rings, and
- 35:50Speaker 11: you know that happened. So I'm certainly happy to have
- 35:53Speaker 11: him back in the capacity that we do, and now
- 35:56Speaker 11: we just want to build it back to for where
- 35:58Speaker 11: he can can impact the game and impact winning, you know,
- 36:01Speaker 11: the way he did for us last year. And you
- 36:03Speaker 11: know even on opening day this year.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Guys, every team's got to have somebody or multiple people
- 36:10Speaker 4: step up when when the adversity strikes, when the backs
- 36:13Speaker 4: against the ball a little bit. Certainly Jake Brown has
- 36:16Speaker 4: done that in the bad in the lineup, he's bad
- 36:18Speaker 4: over four hundred right now, What is he kind of
- 36:20Speaker 4: meant to your team so far?
- 36:23Speaker 11: Well, he's the best player on the team right now,
- 36:25Speaker 11: there's no question about that.
- 36:27Speaker 10: And you know, I'm proud of his development here. You know,
- 36:32Speaker 10: over three years.
- 36:33Speaker 11: You know, he's a good example for the young players.
- 36:36Speaker 11: I mean, you know, part time players a freshman, closer
- 36:39Speaker 11: to a full time player as a sophomore, and as
- 36:42Speaker 11: talented as he is, you might look at it and
- 36:44Speaker 11: go like, why didn't he just play him all the time.
- 36:46Speaker 11: It's like, well, he was on the national championship team
- 36:49Speaker 11: and we had a way to do it that obviously
- 36:51Speaker 11: worked and was successful. But instead of what you know,
- 36:54Speaker 11: I would call, you know, take your ball and go
- 36:57Speaker 11: home or transfer any of that, he just kept working.
- 37:00Speaker 10: And because he's so talented and he kept working and.
- 37:03Speaker 11: Go back to that mindset piece. Now you're seeing all
- 37:06Speaker 11: the rewards of that for him, and he deserves all
- 37:09Speaker 11: the credit for that because of his mindset is talent
- 37:12Speaker 11: and his work ethic and the good great player for
- 37:16Speaker 11: us and a great example for his teammates.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Yeah, coach too is a great mustache. But Coach, we
- 37:22Speaker 3: talked about LSU baseball like if you go back and
- 37:26Speaker 3: you look at the history, and certainly since you've been
- 37:28Speaker 3: here as well, it's continued on all the great LSU
- 37:31Speaker 3: baseball teams, they always have that guy from Louisiana that
- 37:34Speaker 3: has dreamed of playing for the LSU Tigers since he
- 37:37Speaker 3: is six years old, since he started swinging a bat,
- 37:40Speaker 3: And they're always kind of those guys that are kind
- 37:42Speaker 3: of the life of the team you go to. You know,
- 37:44Speaker 3: your Cade, Beloso's and Travinsky's. I mean, I could give
- 37:48Speaker 3: you one hundred names and you know them all obviously,
- 37:50Speaker 3: Like he is that guy. I think this year as well,
- 37:52Speaker 3: like somebody that has always wanted to be an LSU Tiger.
- 37:55Speaker 3: And you mentioned it, there's times where maybe he could
- 37:57Speaker 3: have done something else, but playing in that stadium, playing
- 37:59Speaker 3: in that environment, putting that uniform on, and you can
- 38:01Speaker 3: tell it means something different to him.
- 38:05Speaker 11: Oh, there's no doubt about that. And I think, you know,
- 38:08Speaker 11: we're probably one of the programs that still has that
- 38:11Speaker 11: element to it and that you know, all the changes
- 38:15Speaker 11: in college athletics and it's a whole other conversation, but
- 38:19Speaker 11: you know, when you talk about him and his pride
- 38:23Speaker 11: in that and wanting to make this something that it's
- 38:26Speaker 11: always been and that he grew up idolizing and wanting
- 38:30Speaker 11: to be a part of, there's a lot of power
- 38:32Speaker 11: in that. You know, felt the same way about you know,
- 38:35Speaker 11: Kate last year. You know, Kate Anderson. You know, you
- 38:39Speaker 11: guys mentioned Kate Blosso, Davin Dugas. That's a very very
- 38:45Speaker 11: you know, real thing. You know, William Schmidt was committed
- 38:48Speaker 11: to Mississippi State until he wasn't because this is what
- 38:51Speaker 11: he always.
- 38:51Speaker 10: Wanted to do. And so it's been something that you know,
- 38:55Speaker 10: coming out here from.
- 38:56Speaker 11: The West, like, I appreciate about those guys and you know,
- 38:59Speaker 11: it is a big part of our you know, fabric
- 39:02Speaker 11: as a team program and part of our success as
- 39:04Speaker 11: it's as it's always been.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Coach Jake Brown said, yeah, I think you said this
- 39:10Speaker 4: yesterday that Zion Theopolis wrote every down on the team
- 39:13Speaker 4: a note just telling like positive, positive encouragement and just
- 39:17Speaker 4: at the bottom he just said, believe it. That is
- 39:21Speaker 4: that's certainly like an incredible type of leadership. But I was,
- 39:25Speaker 4: did can you confirm that?
- 39:26Speaker 3: Did?
- 39:26Speaker 2: Was there a note written to all the players and
- 39:28Speaker 2: what they kind of do for the team.
- 39:31Speaker 10: Yeah, well it's massive.
- 39:33Speaker 11: You guys have been part of great teams and you know,
- 39:36Speaker 11: there's the coach, and you know, I always believe that
- 39:40Speaker 11: the coach has to set the course and is is
- 39:42Speaker 11: the leader. I would never put that responsibility off on
- 39:45Speaker 11: an assistant.
- 39:46Speaker 10: Coach or a player.
- 39:46Speaker 11: But you guys know the power of pure leadership and
- 39:51Speaker 11: when a player a peer steps up and does the
- 39:55Speaker 11: right thing, that can really really impact the team.
- 40:01Speaker 10: And it was amazing that that's what he.
- 40:04Speaker 11: Did, because you know, we started with a meeting on Tuesday,
- 40:08Speaker 11: and there was three or four layers to that meeting,
- 40:11Speaker 11: and I didn't know that Diane had done that. But
- 40:13Speaker 11: the first layer was a reminder of why this team
- 40:17Speaker 11: can be successful, you know, and you start hearing him
- 40:21Speaker 11: talk about that, like why we can be successful, and
- 40:24Speaker 11: it was almost like a collective sigh of relief of like,
- 40:29Speaker 11: oh yeah, like we have something we can can build
- 40:32Speaker 11: off of here as tough as it's been. Well, I
- 40:34Speaker 11: didn't know he had done that, you know, right before that, and.
- 40:38Speaker 10: So it was perfect timing. And he's a really good pitcher, and.
- 40:42Speaker 11: That's high level maturity. He's got like a thirty five
- 40:46Speaker 11: on the ACT, so the intelligence levels there and the
- 40:50Speaker 11: care level, you know, and he's I think he's going
- 40:53Speaker 11: to be a key part of our team from the mound,
- 40:56Speaker 11: just on the pitching contribution. But you know, that's that's
- 40:59Speaker 11: very uncommon nowadays, you know, because young players a lot
- 41:02Speaker 11: of times they'd rather be liked than respected, you know,
- 41:05Speaker 11: and it takes some balls to you know, do something
- 41:08Speaker 11: like that.
- 41:08Speaker 10: And I'm proud of him for that.
- 41:10Speaker 11: And I brought him in the office yesterday to talk
- 41:13Speaker 11: to him, and I think he thought he was like
- 41:15Speaker 11: in trouble or something like that, and I was just like,
- 41:17Speaker 11: I really wanted to validate that because I thought it
- 41:20Speaker 11: was awesome, so easy, easy player for everybody to get
- 41:24Speaker 11: behind and proud of him, and I think it was
- 41:28Speaker 11: it was much needed for some players on our team
- 41:30Speaker 11: that he stepped up and did that.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a hell of a comment.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Belt like, especially this generation, people would be rather liked
- 41:36Speaker 4: than Yeah, I expect it exactly, great comment.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm right there with you, and for a young
- 41:40Speaker 3: player as well, coach, before we let you go in again,
- 41:43Speaker 3: we certainly appreciate the time on the way to travel
- 41:45Speaker 3: to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt. So just maybe real quick,
- 41:49Speaker 3: just kind of a preview of Vanderbilt. I know they're
- 41:51Speaker 3: eleven and seven on this season, but it's Vanderbilt. It's
- 41:54Speaker 3: going to their place. We all know they have incredibly
- 41:57Speaker 3: talented players. Kind of give us maybe a rundown of
- 41:59Speaker 3: this team this year.
- 42:01Speaker 10: Yeah, plenty of talent.
- 42:03Speaker 11: I think they're second in the SEC and home runs.
- 42:07Speaker 10: You know, they have a new hitting coach this year
- 42:10Speaker 10: that is very.
- 42:11Speaker 11: Well thought of, so maybe a little bit better approach
- 42:14Speaker 11: at the plate, more physical players. They actually moved the
- 42:18Speaker 11: fences in at their stadium, so like they they're a
- 42:23Speaker 11: little more you know, I would say power reliance, and
- 42:27Speaker 11: they've been been a little bit more of a speed
- 42:30Speaker 11: base shrunning, disruption execution type team, which they still try
- 42:34Speaker 11: to do some of that, but they're taking a they're
- 42:38Speaker 11: taking a swing when they're in the box, maybe a
- 42:41Speaker 11: little more susceptible to striking out than in the past,
- 42:46Speaker 11: which you know, I think we have some pictures that
- 42:48Speaker 11: can take advantage of that part of it. Talented on
- 42:52Speaker 11: the mound. You know, they've gone through some some injuries.
- 42:55Speaker 11: You know, we just talked about Chris and you know
- 42:59Speaker 11: that impacts you team.
- 43:00Speaker 10: You know, they have a few guys on the mound.
- 43:02Speaker 11: That are out and.
- 43:05Speaker 10: You know, so that's part of what they're going through
- 43:07Speaker 10: right now.
- 43:08Speaker 11: But you know it's Coach Corbyn's probably the best coach
- 43:11Speaker 11: in college baseball since Skip and Augie Gurrito, so I'm
- 43:16Speaker 11: sure they're going to be ready to play. And we
- 43:18Speaker 11: haven't been here since my first year here, so I
- 43:20Speaker 11: think the team we're looking forward to to the series
- 43:22Speaker 11: and getting going.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely looking forward to watching it as well. Coach.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Can't thank you enough for your time, save travels, best
- 43:29Speaker 3: of luck, and we'll catch up again with you next week.
- 43:31Speaker 10: All right, guys, have a great day.
- 43:32Speaker 3: All right you as well. LSU had baseball coach Jay
- 43:35Speaker 3: Johnson good enough to join us every single Thursday here
- 43:37Speaker 3: on OTB. All right, real quick before you take this break.
- 43:40Speaker 3: March is colon cancer Awareness month, and it's a good
- 43:43Speaker 3: reminder that colon cancer is one of the most common cancers,
- 43:45Speaker 3: but it's also one of the most preventable. Win called
- 43:48Speaker 3: early screening can actually find small growth before they even
- 43:51Speaker 3: turn into cancer, which is why doctors recommend adult start
- 43:54Speaker 3: getting screened at the age of forty five. And if
- 43:57Speaker 3: you have a family history, are symptoms like ongoing stomach pain, bleeding,
- 44:00Speaker 3: are changes in bathroom habits, don't wait to get checked.
- 44:04Speaker 3: So a colonoscby is still the best screening tool, but
- 44:06Speaker 3: for some people that are simple at tests at home
