1:43
Speaker 3: the big story outside of the Charleston ary really is
1:47
Speaker 3: the storms and man, it's it's absolutely devastating in the
1:49
Speaker 3: Buchannon area west and up Bus seventy nine. We're going
1:53
Speaker 3: to bring in meteorologist Brian Hughes a little bit later
1:55
Speaker 3: on in the show to give us the latest there
1:57
Speaker 3: as of when we went on the air, around seventy
2:00
Speaker 3: nine northbound lane was opened that since been closed of
2:06
Speaker 3: about twenty thirty minutes or so ago. The southbound it's
2:10
Speaker 3: closed around Bridgeport to Lost Creek, and Jane Lou I
2:13
Speaker 3: say that just in case you're playing on heading up
2:15
Speaker 3: that way, and since four thirty yesterday morning, our guy
2:18
Speaker 3: Brian Hughes has been covered in all We'll check in,
2:20
Speaker 3: as I said with him a little bit later on
2:22
Speaker 3: in the show, talk Line will be devoted primarily to
2:26
Speaker 3: the situations up there, as will Metro News Midday as well.
2:28
Speaker 3: More than that coming up a little bit later on.
2:30
Speaker 3: I will let you know that we have pictures and
2:32
Speaker 3: video available at wv metronews dot com and all of
2:34
Speaker 3: our social media sites as well. But certainly our thoughts
2:36
Speaker 3: and prayers go out to those wonderful people in Upshur County,
2:40
Speaker 3: primarily in that general area, and the rivers are on
2:43
Speaker 3: the rise. It's not good. So if you know somebody
2:46
Speaker 3: that is going to be traveling seventy nine heading up
2:47
Speaker 3: to Morgantown, you need another route because it's closed and
2:50
Speaker 3: it's going to stay that way at least for some time.
2:52
Speaker 3: We'll have more in that coming up a little bit
2:54
Speaker 3: later on. The good news weatherwise is is that we
2:56
Speaker 3: do have good weather. According to Metro News Meteorology of
2:59
Speaker 3: Brian who's over the next couple of days. Download the
3:02
Speaker 3: Metric News television app if you need more information about that,
3:04
Speaker 3: or follow him on social media as well. Now, the
3:09
Speaker 3: Charleston Dirty Birds last night they had a game scheduled,
3:12
Speaker 3: it was postponed. They're going to make that as part
3:13
Speaker 3: of a doubleheader on Thursday, not tonight, on Thursday. We'll
3:16
Speaker 3: have more on that coming up. Plus, the mayor of
3:18
Speaker 3: City of bell Melanie Vickers, she's new to the office seat,
3:21
Speaker 3: is going to join us a little bit later on.
3:23
Speaker 3: And there is a new book out. It's called Snowstorm.
3:26
Speaker 3: It's a novel subtitled Police, Politics and Cocaine written by
3:31
Speaker 3: a guy certainly no stranger around law enforcement here in
3:33
Speaker 3: this area. His name is Terry Sayer. He's retired after
3:36
Speaker 3: a long career as a police officer and also as
3:39
Speaker 3: the director of Yeager Airport Hill join us coming up
3:41
Speaker 3: a little bit later on as well. Plus, your calls
3:44
Speaker 3: and texts are always walking throughout the show. All right,
3:46
Speaker 3: so let's talk a little little Charleston distance run now.
3:49
Speaker 3: Right now, Tricia Robbiley's with us and city. How you doing,
3:51
Speaker 3: Tricia I'm doing great.
3:53
Speaker 5: I'm got here early and did not take the interstate.
3:56
Speaker 3: Okay, that's kind of a running joke because last time
3:59
Speaker 3: we had a little problem getting her in here because
4:02
Speaker 3: there was an incident on the interstate. And you folks
4:04
Speaker 3: introduce yourselves as well.
4:05
Speaker 6: I'm Carol Fipps, hay racetractor.
4:08
Speaker 7: And and I'm Victoria bark Still. I'm the secretary for
4:10
Speaker 7: at Charleston Distance Right.
4:11
Speaker 3: All right, it's great to have all of you all here.
4:13
Speaker 3: So Trisha, we'll start with you give us all the
4:16
Speaker 3: details and we'll break it down from there. All right.
4:19
Speaker 5: So the Distance Run is coming up again this year.
4:23
Speaker 5: It's the fifty third. It is happening on Saturday, September fifth,
4:30
Speaker 5: and our theme this year is take Me Home, and
4:36
Speaker 5: you know that kind of goes with West Virginia. You
4:39
Speaker 5: will see our banner up it's on Virginia Street. And yeah,
4:45
Speaker 5: so we're looking forward to another great year of the
4:49
Speaker 5: Distance Run. It's the fifteen miler three person relay or
4:55
Speaker 5: the five k run walk. We have a couple cool
5:01
Speaker 5: ambassadors this year promoting the race, and I'm not the
5:07
Speaker 5: ambassador this year, but I am on the media committee
5:10
Speaker 5: with a Distance Run. So we'd like to give a
5:13
Speaker 5: shout out to a family that is helping us with
5:17
Speaker 5: the Distance Run promoting this year. It's a whole ambassador family.
5:24
Speaker 5: You might see him run around town. It's the Murray
5:27
Speaker 5: family Sydney, Jim and Shelley and his mom, dad and
5:34
Speaker 5: daughter and they're really big in the community. And yeah,
5:38
Speaker 5: so there are ambassadors for Charleston. And then we also
5:41
Speaker 5: have a couple out of Kentucky. And so get a
5:46
Speaker 5: lot of.
5:47
Speaker 3: The word out, all right, and give us the date again.
5:49
Speaker 3: I guess we missed that. What's the date again?
5:51
Speaker 5: Saturday, September fifth.
5:53
Speaker 3: It's Labor Day weekend. Labor Day weekend, and we're on
5:56
Speaker 3: here now this early because we want to encourage people
5:59
Speaker 3: to sign up, but also are sponsorship still available? Y? Yes,
6:03
Speaker 3: anybody talk Sponsorships are always of aged You girls will
6:07
Speaker 3: run through the Distance Run with a sign hanging up
6:10
Speaker 3: if you have to right to talk about talk about sponsorships. Sure.
6:13
Speaker 7: Our biggest sponsors are the p and Fetti Foundation and
6:16
Speaker 7: the City of Charleston. We absolutely could not do it
6:19
Speaker 7: without the City of Charleston, but we are looking for
6:21
Speaker 7: additional sponsors to come alongside us. And help us at
6:25
Speaker 7: all kinds of levels. We have everything from you know,
6:28
Speaker 7: big time sponsors to mile marker signs that are like
6:32
Speaker 7: one hundred dollars. So we'll put a sign up with
6:34
Speaker 7: your business's name on it along our route, which are
6:37
Speaker 7: runners and spectators along the course look for as well.
6:41
Speaker 7: So yeah, just you know, reach out to us at
6:44
Speaker 7: Charleston Distance run dot com. Happy to talk more about sponsorship.
6:48
Speaker 3: All right, I want to talk to the runners here
6:49
Speaker 3: for a moment. I interviewed you, ladies. I think last year,
6:52
Speaker 3: what is it that you enjoyed so much about running?
6:54
Speaker 3: Because we weren't you if I remember, were't you relatively
6:56
Speaker 3: new to this? I mean the last few years you
6:58
Speaker 3: earned your whole life.
6:59
Speaker 5: Right, No, like eight years?
7:01
Speaker 3: Okay, well that's so relatively new. But I mean if
7:04
Speaker 3: you're only twenty eight now, So.
7:06
Speaker 5: Thanks Dave, Yes, I am. Well, if you remember, I
7:10
Speaker 5: was here for the UC Marathon being the ambassador and
7:15
Speaker 5: getting the word out for that, and that was my
7:16
Speaker 5: third marathon and final marathon because I realize why the
7:21
Speaker 5: CDR is my favorite, because fifteen miles is a lot
7:26
Speaker 5: a lot easier or less. Fifteen miles or less. You
7:28
Speaker 5: don't have to do the fifteen mile er. But it's
7:33
Speaker 5: a lot lot it's all the fun half the training,
7:37
Speaker 5: as you know, they say, So.
7:40
Speaker 8: I don't know.
7:42
Speaker 5: For me, it's just conquering hard things. We do hard
7:46
Speaker 5: things every day without even being ready. And I guess
7:50
Speaker 5: for me, like just running makes me feel good and
7:56
Speaker 5: it helps me conquer hard things. Not just running that
8:01
Speaker 5: in life, Okay, what about you?
8:05
Speaker 6: You know, I just enjoy getting out and being in
8:08
Speaker 6: fresh air. And we have the theme take Me Home
8:11
Speaker 6: this year.
8:12
Speaker 3: And it's very appropriate considering that song is everywhere exactly,
8:17
Speaker 3: it's always been big in West Virginia, but I mean
8:19
Speaker 3: it went on steroids with the WVU baseball team and
8:23
Speaker 3: with the with the World Cup as well.
8:25
Speaker 6: Yeah, and I couldn't believe it because we've had this
8:29
Speaker 6: as our theme for quite some time, and I was
8:32
Speaker 6: pretty excited. And actually in my little letter in our
8:35
Speaker 6: participant guide, I talk about how it isn't then it
8:39
Speaker 6: pretty much unites us as West Virginia. The song country Roads,
8:44
Speaker 6: so and we have everything in country Roads in the
8:49
Speaker 6: distance run. We have the mountains, we have the water,
8:51
Speaker 6: we have and I say we have tear drops in
8:54
Speaker 6: our eyes and we have the radio. So you know,
9:02
Speaker 6: it's very fitting because there are a lot of people
9:04
Speaker 6: within the community around the country that have participated in
9:09
Speaker 6: the distance run and I love hearing the stories. We
9:12
Speaker 6: have one guy who he is running his it's the
9:16
Speaker 6: fiftieth year from his fastest race that he did, and
9:21
Speaker 6: so I mean, just to think that fifty years ago
9:25
Speaker 6: he ran his fastest race and he's coming.
9:27
Speaker 3: Back, that's amazing. He's seventy six, seventy six, Yeah, readead again,
9:32
Speaker 3: seventy six years old and he's still doing And you
9:34
Speaker 3: probably had people leaders that they are probably that we're
9:37
Speaker 3: older than that the Randy's races.
9:39
Speaker 9: Yes, we do.
9:39
Speaker 7: Our former race director John Palmer, he's run it for
9:43
Speaker 7: I don't know how many years and.
9:45
Speaker 6: He's he's running it and he will. I'm not going
9:48
Speaker 6: to say his age.
9:49
Speaker 3: Which is old older than older than Yes, all right,
9:53
Speaker 3: So what's the best way for people to sign up?
9:55
Speaker 2: Now?
9:55
Speaker 3: I know we're a little bit and again we're having
9:57
Speaker 3: you on guys on early because you need to get
9:59
Speaker 3: headcount things of that nature. Plus sponsorship has always helped
10:02
Speaker 3: to what's the best way for people to sign up?
10:03
Speaker 5: Trition, you can sign up on our run sign up
10:06
Speaker 5: page and or go to our Facebook page and there's
10:11
Speaker 5: a direct link right there to sign up for. Like
10:15
Speaker 5: I said, there's the fifteen miler, but if you don't
10:18
Speaker 5: want to go all the way, you can con too
10:20
Speaker 5: of your friends and to do a relay or you
10:25
Speaker 5: know five k run or walk that's three point one
10:28
Speaker 5: miles around Charleston relatively flat. So yeah, it's there's a
10:35
Speaker 5: few different ways you can sign up or just Charleston
10:39
Speaker 5: Run dot com. I'm sorry, Charleston Distance Run dot com.
10:42
Speaker 3: And this is again we talked about a lot of
10:44
Speaker 3: runs here on the show. People reach out to us
10:46
Speaker 3: for one reason or another, but this is one of
10:48
Speaker 3: those that, I mean, everybody loves to take part in
10:50
Speaker 3: because it's just so much fun. That's got the name.
10:52
Speaker 3: We've been doing it for so many years. This is
10:54
Speaker 3: one of those ones. A it's a do not miss
10:57
Speaker 3: if people literally come from all over for this thing.
11:00
Speaker 7: Do it's uniquely Charleston. The fifteen miles is unique, you know.
11:05
Speaker 7: It's our race that we've had since nineteen seventy three,
11:08
Speaker 7: started as part of the regatta, still going on and
11:11
Speaker 7: right now we have about twenty eight states and Puerto
11:14
Speaker 7: Rico represented among our registrants, so you know, take me home.
11:18
Speaker 7: Also harkens back to people from West Virginia who come
11:22
Speaker 7: back every year for this race, and then we're of
11:24
Speaker 7: course inviting new people to come and experience West Virginia
11:27
Speaker 7: and the CDR.
11:28
Speaker 3: All right, give us the information again where people can
11:31
Speaker 3: I know you got Detroy girl over social media. Give
11:33
Speaker 3: us all the stuff again, Trisham.

14:40

14:43
Speaker 3: to the efforts in those areas right now, but absolutely
14:48
Speaker 3: devastating and those of us here in the Canal Valley
14:50
Speaker 3: we've seen it, but this is, according to Brian Hughes,
14:52
Speaker 3: this is next level what's going on there. I mean,
14:55
Speaker 3: people being rescued from trees I seventy nine, still shut
15:00
Speaker 3: down in many areas, no timetable as to when it's
15:03
Speaker 3: going to open. Brian is going to join us coming
15:04
Speaker 3: up a little bit later on the show to update this.
15:07
Speaker 3: And also we're going to be talking to author Terry Sayer.
15:10
Speaker 3: Certainly no one, I think everybody in the Knaal Valley
15:14
Speaker 3: knows Terry Sayer. He's no stranger to anyone. He's written
15:17
Speaker 3: a new book though, called Snowstorm, and it's called It's Police,
15:23
Speaker 3: Politics and Cocaine. It's about the drug trade in the
15:25
Speaker 3: kanawh Valley, particularly Charleston's seventies, eighties and nineties. While joint
15:28
Speaker 3: he's coming up a little bit later on Welcome into
15:31
Speaker 3: the show. Now she's a new mayor of Bell. It's
15:33
Speaker 3: Melodie Vickers. How you doing, Hey, I'm doing great.
15:36
Speaker 2: How are you?
15:36
Speaker 3: How long have you been in office? Mayor?
15:38
Speaker 12: Twenty two days?
15:39
Speaker 3: Twenty two whole days. What do you get after twenty
15:41
Speaker 3: two days? You had t shirt or something or a
15:43
Speaker 3: coffee cupper? Haven't got that yet?
15:45
Speaker 5: Not yet?
15:45
Speaker 3: Yeah, what's a So give us a little bit of
15:48
Speaker 3: your background and then we'll get into some thing specific
15:50
Speaker 3: to the community of Bell. Give us some of your background.
15:53
Speaker 12: Well, I was born and raised at Blue Creek up
15:56
Speaker 12: Elk River, and went to Bell in nineteen and in
16:01
Speaker 12: nineteen eighty four, bought a house up there. In ninety
16:06
Speaker 12: I have lived there every since and ran for town council.
16:11
Speaker 12: Was on town council for eight years, and after that
16:14
Speaker 12: then I decided I wanted to change, so I ran
16:16
Speaker 12: from mayor.
16:17
Speaker 3: What was it that you learned on town council? Because
16:20
Speaker 3: we find that a lot just about any mayor that
16:22
Speaker 3: I interview mayors, somebody will start out as on town
16:25
Speaker 3: council maybe recorder something like that, and then they decide
16:27
Speaker 3: to go What was it that you learned that you thought,
16:30
Speaker 3: you know what this this will be a good experience
16:32
Speaker 3: for me if I decided to become mayor.
16:34
Speaker 12: Well, it gives you a lot of input. A lot
16:37
Speaker 12: of people don't realize, you know, you don't go in
16:39
Speaker 12: and just vote yes or no for an hour. There's
16:42
Speaker 12: a lot behind the scenes that goes on, you know,
16:45
Speaker 12: the festivals and the car shows and you know, finances
16:50
Speaker 12: and all that. So it really showed me that, you know,
16:55
Speaker 12: something that I wanted to be doing, I was interested in,
16:59
Speaker 12: and so I just went for it.
17:02
Speaker 3: What's some of the big things that I know you're
17:06
Speaker 3: on twenty two days into this, so I don't want
17:07
Speaker 3: to put a lot of pressure on you. But when
17:08
Speaker 3: you ran, what are some of the things that you decided, Hey,
17:11
Speaker 3: I'd like to like to see if we can institute
17:13
Speaker 3: this in Bell or that something.
17:14
Speaker 12: Wanted to get the police department back up and running.
17:17
Speaker 12: I wanted to get better publicity, good publicity to town
17:21
Speaker 12: of Bell because we've kind of had a little bit
17:24
Speaker 12: of bad publicity there for a while. I want to
17:27
Speaker 12: bring the community together. We have actually hired a new
17:30
Speaker 12: police chief, and we also hired a part time officer.
17:35
Speaker 12: We've hired a couple of street department people, and we
17:39
Speaker 12: just want to get to town up and running the
17:41
Speaker 12: beautification of it. Grant money, you know, we were going
17:44
Speaker 12: to try to get grant money to make things better.
17:48
Speaker 3: Let's talk about some of the things going on in Bell.
17:52
Speaker 3: I mean, it's obviously I know people that live and
17:55
Speaker 3: work there and they love it. It's a nice, little
17:56
Speaker 3: close knit community. And what if you're if you're out
18:00
Speaker 3: talking to people as a mayor, you're kind of an
18:02
Speaker 3: ambassador to the town. If you're out talking to people saying, well,
18:05
Speaker 3: this is why you should come and open up a
18:07
Speaker 3: business in Bell, or this is why you should consider
18:09
Speaker 3: moving raising your family here. What are some of the
18:11
Speaker 3: talking points that you get for the community of Bell.
18:13
Speaker 12: Well, I think that you know, like you said, it's
18:15
Speaker 12: a small, nick community. And the thing of it is
18:19
Speaker 12: is Bell has a lot of friendly people, has a
18:21
Speaker 12: lot of talent, and we have places that we can
18:24
Speaker 12: put businesses. We are even willing to give them a
18:28
Speaker 12: tax break, you know, whenever they come to town. So
18:32
Speaker 12: we really, you know, we'd like to get some new
18:33
Speaker 12: businesses in. People are friendly up there. We have a
18:37
Speaker 12: lot of volunteers right now that just want to help. So, hey,
18:41
Speaker 12: you know, bring your business to Bell and we'll see
18:43
Speaker 12: what we can.
18:43
Speaker 3: Do for you. What what is what's on your wish
18:47
Speaker 3: list for the town of Bell. Is there anything out
18:48
Speaker 3: there and say, hey, i'd like to I'd like to
18:50
Speaker 3: have we need a grocery store, we need I know
18:53
Speaker 3: you want all the business you can get, but is
18:54
Speaker 3: there anything in particular.
18:55
Speaker 12: Well, actually, we've already talked to someone about a hardware
18:58
Speaker 12: store and there's a possibility that they're going to put
19:00
Speaker 12: a hardware store up there. We'd like to have a
19:03
Speaker 12: mom and pop's grocery store. Of course, we have Walmart
19:05
Speaker 12: up the road, but there's a lot of older people
19:07
Speaker 12: in Bell that does not, you know, drive, so they
19:11
Speaker 12: could do that. I'd like to have a lot of
19:13
Speaker 12: things for the kids to do. There's nothing for the
19:15
Speaker 12: teenagers to do in Bel. So if you have any
19:19
Speaker 12: ideas on bringing businesses to Bell that would help the teenagers,
19:23
Speaker 12: it would be greatly appreciated.
19:24
Speaker 3: Dok to Mellie Vickers again, who's the mayor of the
19:27
Speaker 3: town of Bell. The Dave Island show in five any

Speaker 3: Check out Pinnacle Court dot net. Helping you understand your
19:42
Speaker 3: environment because what you don't know can hurtscha. Mayor, I
19:45
Speaker 3: want to ask you, you know a lot of people
19:46
Speaker 3: came out for the public meeting last week. I met
19:48
Speaker 3: the Clean Seas plastic facility in your town. A lot
19:52
Speaker 3: of people, a lot of interest in that. People trying
19:54
Speaker 3: to learn information about it. What can you tell us
19:56
Speaker 3: about well.
19:58
Speaker 12: I can tell you that there is a lot of
19:59
Speaker 12: people that it's against it. We haven't really gotten any
20:02
Speaker 12: definite from clean Seas. We have not talked to them
20:06
Speaker 12: as much as what we've talked to the other side.
20:09
Speaker 12: DP was up there last week and gave us the
20:12
Speaker 12: information on the permits and everything. I would just say,
20:16
Speaker 12: you know, if you're against it, continue to you know,
20:19
Speaker 12: sign a petition and things like that. If you're for it,
20:22
Speaker 12: help us to understand why. You know, there's just a
20:26
Speaker 12: lot of things going on there that is unclear right now.
20:29
Speaker 3: Well, and this is what's happened, you know sometimes and
20:31
Speaker 3: this is no fault of anybody, This is no right
20:33
Speaker 3: or no wrong. It's just been you know, there's a
20:36
Speaker 3: lot of uncertainty and things, and residents have a right
20:39
Speaker 3: to ask questions, they have a right to be concerned.
20:41
Speaker 3: And that's why you had to have, Like I said,
20:42
Speaker 3: you had a great turnout. Our news team was there
20:44
Speaker 3: from the for the public comment or or the community
20:48
Speaker 3: meeting or whatever town hall that you had. I guess
20:49
Speaker 3: if you will, you had a lot of people showed
20:51
Speaker 3: up for that. And people have got questions. You can
20:53
Speaker 3: certainly understand that.
20:54
Speaker 12: Yes, absolutely, I mean I've asked questions.
20:58
Speaker 3: Well, and sometimes what happens is me and you know this,
21:00
Speaker 3: and I live in Putnham County right now, and of
21:02
Speaker 3: course all the talk over there is but about this
21:04
Speaker 3: Google Data center. A lot of times elected officials and
21:07
Speaker 3: I don't want to say they're left in the dark
21:08
Speaker 3: or anything like that, but they all sometimes they don't
21:11
Speaker 3: know everything either, and so sometimes you'll find that they
21:14
Speaker 3: come out to these meetings and it's kind of a
21:16
Speaker 3: learning process for them as well. Absolutely, so I want to.
21:21
Speaker 3: I want to get a little bit more into your background.
21:23
Speaker 3: Was this something when you were maybe growing up? Did
21:26
Speaker 3: you have a mentioned for serving a public Was it
21:29
Speaker 3: something that you were interested in.
21:30
Speaker 12: Actually, when I was growing up, I wanted to be
21:32
Speaker 12: in law enforcement. Okay, I did that eleven and a
21:35
Speaker 12: half years and retired, you know, got married, and then
21:39
Speaker 12: decided that I wanted into something else. Worked in insurance
21:43
Speaker 12: for a while, I was worked for nationwide end State Forum,
21:47
Speaker 12: retired from there, and like I said, then I became,
21:51
Speaker 12: you know, a council member and decided I wanted to
21:54
Speaker 12: make a change. Everything I've ever done, it's been to
21:57
Speaker 12: help people, and that's what I wanted to continue to do.
22:01
Speaker 3: It's anytime that I talk to anybody and hats off
22:05
Speaker 3: to you and anybody that agrees to run for city council,
22:07
Speaker 3: county commission, or whatever. Because it may be a part
22:10
Speaker 3: time job, you know, in certain certain towns, sometimes it's
22:13
Speaker 3: a full time job. But anybody that knows if you're
22:16
Speaker 3: going to do a decent job as a mayor of
22:17
Speaker 3: a small town, it ain't a part time job. I
22:20
Speaker 3: don't care what it says on the on the paperwork,
22:22
Speaker 3: It's not a part time job because you're getting called
22:24
Speaker 3: about potholes, you're getting stopped at church or getting stopped
22:27
Speaker 3: at Kroger or whatever. The people with questions, right, But
22:29
Speaker 3: that's why you sign up for the job, I guess exactly.
22:32
Speaker 12: I want to see everything you know get better. And
22:35
Speaker 12: like I said before, my door's always open for anyone
22:38
Speaker 12: that wants to come and talk to me or whatever
22:40
Speaker 12: has questions. My door's always open.
22:42
Speaker 3: Any anything big on the horizon for the next couple
22:45
Speaker 3: of weeks. I know we're at the middle point of
22:46
Speaker 3: summer right now, and then people start talking about back
22:49
Speaker 3: to school and things of that nature. I know, I
22:51
Speaker 3: know kids don't want to hear that, or teachers maybe
22:54
Speaker 3: maybe they do want to hear it. I don't know,
22:55
Speaker 3: but anything in North the last couple of weeks.
22:57
Speaker 12: To get you excited, we actually have a street every Monday,
23:01
Speaker 12: and the last day will be August the tenth, and
23:04
Speaker 12: that day we're gonna have what we call a bike
23:06
Speaker 12: to School bash, and we're gonna have free hot dogs
23:08
Speaker 12: and chips and drinks for the kids after the SPUs.
23:11
Speaker 3: Okay, and that's again, that's when.
23:13
Speaker 12: I'm August the tenth.
23:14
Speaker 3: August the tenth six o'clock and is there information you

Speaker 3: also spent time as director of Vieger Airport. Terry joins
27:43

27:46
Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
27:47
Speaker 2: Hey, good morning to you.
27:48
Speaker 3: How are you doing I'm doing fine. Thank you for
27:50
Speaker 3: being here. You're, of course, Terry, very well known here
27:52
Speaker 3: in the Charleston area. I mentioned your career as a
27:54
Speaker 3: police officer for a director of Vieger Airport other things.
27:57
Speaker 3: What led you to want to write this book?
28:02
Speaker 2: I guess for several reasons. What I'm to be would
28:05
Speaker 2: be to show a sight of Charleston that most people
28:08
Speaker 2: didn't know about during the seventies through the nineties. What
28:12
Speaker 2: downtown was like, the clubs, the restaurants, Summer Street, how
28:17
Speaker 2: bad that was uh, the drug traffic, To show what
28:21
Speaker 2: policing was like during that time period, and probably the
28:25
Speaker 2: main reason was to honor the work of the men
28:29
Speaker 2: and women of the Charleston Police Department, especially the drug Unit.
28:33
Speaker 3: Give us the entire premise of the book here, Cherry.
28:39
Speaker 2: What starts out with us dealing with doing a regular
28:43
Speaker 2: drug deal one of the local hotels and the prosecuting
28:47
Speaker 2: attorney coming out on the case at that time. And
28:51
Speaker 2: there in addition to the pound of cocaine, there was
28:54
Speaker 2: a val of cocaine that the drug dealers brought as
28:58
Speaker 2: a sample, and later that day, after these people were arrested,
29:03
Speaker 2: that violet cocaine came up missing and that started basically
29:09
Speaker 2: the rumors flying about the prosecutor as far as we
29:12
Speaker 2: were concerned.
29:14
Speaker 3: Take for people that maybe weren't around Charleston at that time,
29:19
Speaker 3: maybe people that were a little bit younger at the time.
29:21
Speaker 3: Talk about what Charleston was like. Let's start with the
29:24
Speaker 3: nineteen seventies through the eighties ninety not necessarily the drug trade,
29:27
Speaker 3: but just Charleston was a very vibrant city at that time.
29:32
Speaker 2: Oh absolutely there was. You know, when I got hired
29:34
Speaker 2: on the police department, there was about one hundred thousand
29:37
Speaker 2: people lived inside the city limits proper. I mean, you
29:40
Speaker 2: had the phone company downtown, the phone company on the
29:44
Speaker 2: south Side Expressway. You had Columbia Gas, you had DuPont Plant,
29:50
Speaker 2: you had car the Carbide Tech Center, Carbibing Institute, you
29:54
Speaker 2: had Monsanto. You just had lots of jobs, good job
30:00
Speaker 2: in the Kanaal Valley area. It was just it was
30:03
Speaker 2: a great place. The clubs downtown you had, you know,
30:08
Speaker 2: you had a dozen places for entertainment downtown. You had
30:12
Speaker 2: them in Kanall City, on the west side, just all over.
30:15
Speaker 2: It was It was a fun time.
30:18
Speaker 3: And you know, drugs have always been a part of
30:20
Speaker 3: our culture ever since there's been a country Chiria, you
30:22
Speaker 3: know that. But in the nineteen seventies, it uh, late
30:26
Speaker 3: seventies particularly, and you could jump in here and correct
30:29
Speaker 3: me if I'm wrong, but late nineteen seventies when cocaine
30:32
Speaker 3: became and cocaine has been around forever, but the recreational
30:36
Speaker 3: type cocaine, so to speak, it kind of changed the
30:39
Speaker 3: game in the late seventies into the early eighties, right, Yeah.
30:43
Speaker 2: That's that's about all we started doing was coke cases.
30:46
Speaker 2: In the late seventies through the eighties. You always had
30:50
Speaker 2: marijuana cases, you know, sometimes start out was you always
30:53
Speaker 2: tried to start small and roll those people up into
30:58
Speaker 2: larger cases. But the cocaine were our main focus at
31:03
Speaker 2: that time period.
31:04
Speaker 3: Well, and that was the main focus of a lot
31:06
Speaker 3: of towns, not just Charleston, I mean around the country.
31:09
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, and we've all seen that. If
31:11
Speaker 3: you weren't around the I was, I was a kid,
31:13
Speaker 3: but I know how big cocaine was at that time,
31:16
Speaker 3: and then it started to morph into other things. And
31:19
Speaker 3: most drug dealers, I mean, you know, I don't want
31:21
Speaker 3: to speak out attorney Cherry, but a great number of
31:24
Speaker 3: drug dealers I'll put it that way. Didn't just sell
31:26
Speaker 3: one thing, and they weren't just you know, content on
31:28
Speaker 3: selling that one thing. Many of them went to heart
31:31
Speaker 3: Cocaine's bad enough, but went to harder things after that.
31:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, they were just a businessman. That was the business
31:38
Speaker 2: for lots of people. I mean they sold pot, they
31:42
Speaker 2: sold coke, they would sell PCP, they would sell LSD
31:46
Speaker 2: and if they had, you know, later on when crack
31:49
Speaker 2: cocaine took over the market, I mean they diversified into that.
31:53
Speaker 2: There was just so much money involved in that business
31:57
Speaker 2: that was.
31:58
Speaker 3: Horrific, really, And the book is written as as fiction
32:04
Speaker 3: and that's the way it is written. You've changed a
32:06
Speaker 3: lot of the names, but there people are. I mean,
32:09
Speaker 3: I would think Terry and I've read I've read some
32:11
Speaker 3: of the book. I mean, people are going to see
32:14
Speaker 3: names in there and they're let's say the name is
32:16
Speaker 3: John Smith, who was serving this wrong? They're probably going
32:20
Speaker 3: to know who this was based on. Is that correct?
32:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's possible. That's up to the reader to side
32:26
Speaker 2: whose who those people are. I mean I did take
32:31
Speaker 2: two or three characters and make one character out and
32:33
Speaker 2: positive character and merged different cases, take you know, I
32:39
Speaker 2: would take two or three different cases and make one
32:41
Speaker 2: case out of it. Things of that nature. But I
32:46
Speaker 2: guess some of the drug dealers might recognize who they were,
32:48
Speaker 2: and I hope the police, the police that actually did
32:52
Speaker 2: the work, will know who they are.
32:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, because there was one point in the book that
32:56
Speaker 3: you you basically dedicated it to a lot of the
32:59
Speaker 3: hard working law enforcement officers here in the Kenaw Valley
33:02
Speaker 3: at that time and the ones that still continued to
33:04
Speaker 3: do it today.
33:06
Speaker 2: Yes, sir, absolutely, they you know, this is this is
33:09
Speaker 2: for them. You know, all the politicians have their story
33:12
Speaker 2: and their take on everything and how everything was during
33:16
Speaker 2: that time period. But this is for the police and
33:19
Speaker 2: try to be a voice for the police officers that
33:22
Speaker 2: actually were on the streets taking chances on their life
33:25
Speaker 2: every day.
33:26
Speaker 3: We're talking to Terry Sayer has written a new book.
33:28
Speaker 3: It's called Snowstorm and novel Police Politics and Cocaine, focusing
33:33
Speaker 3: on a lot of the drug situation Charleston from the
33:35
Speaker 3: seventies and through the nineties. Any concern from you about
33:39
Speaker 3: doing this book even after all these years.
33:42
Speaker 2: Later from a threat standpoint, really, okay, all right, I've
33:52
Speaker 2: never lived my life like that. I mean, I just
33:54
Speaker 2: we all got up and went to work every day
33:56
Speaker 2: and did her job and just knew, you know, we
34:00
Speaker 2: felt like that nothing was really going to happen to us.
34:03
Speaker 2: You know, we were you had you couldn't do your
34:07
Speaker 2: job if you were if you've had that mindset, you
34:09
Speaker 2: had to have the mindset every day that you weren't
34:13
Speaker 2: going to get hurt. But you had to You had
34:16
Speaker 2: to plan, you had to train, You had to make
34:19
Speaker 2: sure that you were always in control. Whether you were
34:23
Speaker 2: the one buying the drugs or if we were doing
34:25
Speaker 2: a reversal type case where we would be selling the
34:29
Speaker 2: drugs and taking someone's large quantity of cash, you always
34:32
Speaker 2: had to be in control.
34:34
Speaker 3: Give us an example, and we're hoping that we're not
34:37
Speaker 3: give too much away because we went people to go
34:38
Speaker 3: buy your book, and I'll get more information about that
34:40
Speaker 3: out there a little bit later on. But give us
34:42
Speaker 3: an example of one or two of the cases that
34:44
Speaker 3: people will read about in the book as far as
34:46
Speaker 3: the way that everything went down.
34:49
Speaker 2: Yeah. Sure, one would be a case that probably started
34:53
Speaker 2: on a Friday evening. We arrested these bikers from Ohio
34:56
Speaker 2: and got them for a kilo coke. They flipped on
35:00
Speaker 2: these uh Colombians from Miami. We negotiated a deal with
35:06
Speaker 2: them for I think five kilos of coke. They came
35:10
Speaker 2: to Charleston a couple of days later. We met with
35:13
Speaker 2: them at the hotel. Then they had a guy from
35:16
Speaker 2: a Dominican from New York drive the coke down that
35:19
Speaker 2: was secreted inside of a car, heading inside of a car.
35:24
Speaker 2: And then we did the deal with them and arrested
35:26
Speaker 2: them at the hotel. And that was a pretty successful case.
35:30
Speaker 2: But that just usually starts out as a you know,
35:33
Speaker 2: you don't end up buying a kilo off somebody immediately,
35:36
Speaker 2: so you end up working your way up the ladder.
35:39
Speaker 2: So it takes time and money and energy.
35:42
Speaker 3: And one and one small slip up along the way
35:45
Speaker 3: and ruin the whole case. The whole case, Terry, as
35:48
Speaker 3: I'm sure you saw.
35:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, that case was funny. I mean I was working
35:53
Speaker 2: the undercover well I think with uh, we'll say Larry
35:58
Speaker 2: and Uh. We were having had these people from Miami
36:03
Speaker 2: ended up at tide Water having lunch with him after
36:06
Speaker 2: you got him at the airport, and a local lawyer
36:10
Speaker 2: that we had defense lawyer that we had did cases with,
36:14
Speaker 2: approached us as we were sitting there with these people,
36:16
Speaker 2: and she actually came over and messed my hair up
36:19
Speaker 2: and jokingly, you want to know what we were doing?
36:22
Speaker 2: And I just told him we were working on a
36:24
Speaker 2: construction job or working a site, or you know, just
36:29
Speaker 2: told him some lie. And he just laughed and looked
36:32
Speaker 2: at the people and walked off. And we were lucky.
36:35
Speaker 2: He just kept his mouth shut and went on, So
36:37
Speaker 2: we were fortunate.
36:39
Speaker 3: Was your I don't want to get to do too much
36:41
Speaker 3: in your personal life, at your family life that like
36:44
Speaker 3: at that time? Were you married, did you have kids?
36:46
Speaker 3: Did they if you did, were you anybody in your
36:48
Speaker 3: family aware of how dangerous your job was at this time?
36:53
Speaker 2: Oh? Absolutely, I was married at that time. You know,
36:56
Speaker 2: my wife, she was on the police department. My two sons.
37:02
Speaker 2: You know, I wrote this book because of my two
37:05
Speaker 2: sons and my current wife. They encouraged me to write this.
37:09
Speaker 2: I wore them out with police stories over the years,
37:12
Speaker 2: and they would always be like, you need to write
37:15
Speaker 2: a book.
37:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, they're looking at you, Terry say you need to
37:17
Speaker 3: write a book and leave us alone. Somebody else that
37:19
Speaker 3: we've already heard this story thirty five times. What was
37:22
Speaker 3: your writing process like was I mean when you were
37:25
Speaker 3: let's say, when you were on the job at that
37:27
Speaker 3: particular time, were you keeping a journal of things that
37:30
Speaker 3: you were thinking about writing a book or did you
37:32
Speaker 3: just sit down one day and say I'm going to
37:34
Speaker 3: write a book, and you sit down and you just
37:35
Speaker 3: start writing. What was that process, like.
37:37
Speaker 2: Terry, I did not keep a journal when I was
37:40
Speaker 2: on the department. Unknown to me, my mother actually cut
37:44
Speaker 2: out clippings from the newspaper and put them in a
37:48
Speaker 2: notebook for me. And then when I finally decided, when
37:51
Speaker 2: I moved down here in Florida and decided to write
37:55
Speaker 2: the book, then I got those out and that helped
38:00
Speaker 2: help with my memory to remember all the cases. And
38:03
Speaker 2: then the process was I had to dedicate two or
38:06
Speaker 2: three hours a day and sit down and pound it out.
38:09
Speaker 2: That's all the way I could get it done is
38:12
Speaker 2: just dedicate the time every day at a certain place
38:15
Speaker 2: in the house to write the book. And you just
38:18
Speaker 2: got to do the deal.
38:20
Speaker 3: What do you want to take away from this book?
38:22
Speaker 3: To be Terry, when people sit down and they read it,
38:24
Speaker 3: what is there a certain takeaway that you are expecting
38:27
Speaker 3: that you like for people to have.
38:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd like for them to have a feeling that
38:33
Speaker 2: we actually accomplished something, something was done there in Charleston.
38:38
Speaker 2: You know, we actually did help clean up Summer Street.
38:41
Speaker 2: You can go down there nowadays and it's relatively safe, so,
38:46
Speaker 2: you know, I'd like for people to see it's you know,
38:49
Speaker 2: it's a little bit about redemption and forgiveness at the end,
38:53
Speaker 2: and people can still be friends even after bad things
38:59
Speaker 2: happened to good people. The people do make you know,
39:02
Speaker 2: people do make mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes. I've made plenty
39:06
Speaker 2: of them. And if you can't forgive others mistakes, then
39:09
Speaker 2: you're not a very good person.
39:11
Speaker 3: The book is called Snowstorm and Novel, Police, Politics and Cocaine.
39:15
Speaker 3: That's written by Terry Say Or. Where can people get
39:18
Speaker 3: the book?
39:19
Speaker 2: Well, you're can get it to Taylor Books Downtown. I
39:21
Speaker 2: talked to them the other day. They have the book
39:23
Speaker 2: in stock. Or you can get it at Amazon, Barnes
39:26
Speaker 2: and Noble Books a million, Walmart, dot Com, just just

Speaker 2: about anywhere.
39:32
Speaker 3: Will there be a second book? Are you looking looking
39:34
Speaker 3: ahead that far?
39:36
Speaker 2: I have started a second book. It's called Stories from
39:39
Speaker 2: the Street. It's not going to have a overwriting plot,
39:43
Speaker 2: it's just going to be in individual anecdotes of funny
39:49
Speaker 2: or funny type arrests, things, crazy things that happen that
39:53
Speaker 2: you encounter as a police officer.
39:54
Speaker 3: No two days are ever alike when you're a police officer.
39:57
Speaker 3: I know that for sure, Serri.
39:59
Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yet it was like like I said in the book,
40:02
Speaker 2: it was like going to the circus. You never saw
40:05
Speaker 2: what you know. You never knew what kind of act
40:07
Speaker 2: you were going to see, and you never knew whether
40:09
Speaker 2: or not the circus act would try to hurt you.
40:12
Speaker 3: Right well, Terry, it's fascinating book. I started reading and
40:15
Speaker 3: I've not got through it yet, but I'm looking forward
40:17
Speaker 3: to it. I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot.
40:20
Speaker 2: Oh, thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

Speaker 20: You may think speeding a little isn't really speeding, but
42:25
Speaker 20: even a few miles over the limit has consequences. First,
42:29
Speaker 20: there's the fine. Your first offense could cost you one
42:31
Speaker 20: hundred dollars plus court costs, and you'll pay a lot
42:34
Speaker 20: more if it's your second or third offense. Eventually, you
42:37
Speaker 20: can lose your license or even go to jail, and
42:40
Speaker 20: those are minor consequences. Speeding causes ten thousand deaths each year.
42:45
Speaker 20: So next time you think a few miles over isn't
42:47
Speaker 20: a big deal, think again. This message is brought to

43:14
Speaker 3: to the show. At this point I could have said
43:15
Speaker 3: good afternoon. You were really no difference at that point.
43:18
Speaker 3: I don't know what time it is.
43:19
Speaker 21: I mean I woke up yesterday morning at three forty five,
43:24
Speaker 21: and I'm still going We've got you know, when you
43:29
Speaker 21: look at the catastrophic nature of what's happened here, and
43:32
Speaker 21: you even look back at the nineteen eighty five floods
43:35
Speaker 21: and nope, the election day floods nineteen eighty five, and
43:38
Speaker 21: then you go back to twenty sixteen, I mean, these
43:40
Speaker 21: are it's all comparable.
43:42
Speaker 3: I mean that's that's what we're dealing with. And what
43:44
Speaker 3: area is primary? I mean, we know Buchanan, that's what
43:46
Speaker 3: we've seen from your reporting. We know Buchana, we know
43:49
Speaker 3: West and what are some of the areas up there.
43:51
Speaker 3: It's all that area right there.
43:52
Speaker 21: Jane Lou Yeah, Jane Lou is So the Interstate right now,
43:56
Speaker 21: I seventy nine. They're they're getting the exit and entrance
44:00
Speaker 21: ramps there. You can exit and enter, and but it's
44:04
Speaker 21: a very slogo. Cars are not able to really go
44:06
Speaker 21: through there, as you large SUVs, trucks, ajan wheelers can
44:10
Speaker 21: go through there, but you know, cars are having a
44:13
Speaker 21: little tough time because the water is still high there.
44:16
Speaker 21: But they're trying to get that back open. But right
44:18
Speaker 21: now it's one lane and it's very slogo. You have
44:21
Speaker 21: to go through some floodwaters to make that happen. But
44:24
Speaker 21: all of thirty three corridor h and I say, all
44:27
Speaker 21: of it from from just outside of Elkins, you know,
44:30
Speaker 21: on the low spots all the way back up to
44:33
Speaker 21: the Interstate impassable. You know, when I was on the
44:37
Speaker 21: phone with a five to one one call center last night,
44:42
Speaker 21: we were actually calling each other back and forth because
44:45
Speaker 21: they would get reports. I would get reports, and we
44:47
Speaker 21: were exchanged information last night and he's and Kevin the
44:50
Speaker 21: guy said, Brian, the Clayton Holmes place is completely flooded.
44:55
Speaker 21: He said, he said, there are places on on quarter
44:58
Speaker 21: h you would never imagine our are flooded. And he said,
45:01
Speaker 21: he said, I got one guy. He said, I got
45:03
Speaker 21: one of my DH guys. His house is gone, but
45:06
Speaker 21: he's still sitting out there making sure that everybody's okay.
45:09
Speaker 21: And those are the kind of people that are that
45:11
Speaker 21: are working the jobs right now. The people that I
45:14
Speaker 21: hear in this one ear that I'm listening to constantly.
45:16
Speaker 21: I've got Lewis County and Upscher County, UH nine to
45:19
Speaker 21: one fire dispatch, all those folks, and they're they're doing
45:23
Speaker 21: active water rescues at the moment. It's uh, they're asking
45:28
Speaker 21: for air support.
45:29
Speaker 8: Uh.
45:29
Speaker 21: They're doing all kinds of things, just trying to make
45:32
Speaker 21: sure that people are safe. There's bridges that are gone,
45:35
Speaker 21: roads that are gone, there are places they There was
45:38
Speaker 21: a lady last night, she's an older lady. She said
45:41
Speaker 21: she called them back when the nine one one lines
45:44
Speaker 21: are still working at Upchuer County. She said, don't worry
45:46
Speaker 21: about me. I'm up on top of the hill. Just
45:48
Speaker 21: get me tomorrow when you get a chance. But you
45:51
Speaker 21: can't get to me. And so though that.
45:55
Speaker 3: Is so, and I'm not trying to make light of it, Brian,
45:57
Speaker 3: that is so West Virginia though, and in that in
45:58
Speaker 3: the best possible way, this is somebody who is on
46:01
Speaker 3: top of a hill. There have been people that have
46:03
Speaker 3: spent the night in trees literally literally, yes, that are saying,
46:06
Speaker 3: go take care of the people that are in immediate
46:10
Speaker 3: actual danger. I'm up on this hill. I can't go anywhere.
46:14
Speaker 3: I'm okay, go after my neighbors. Yeah, that's West Virginia
46:17
Speaker 3: right there.
46:18
Speaker 2: It was.
46:19
Speaker 21: And you know, but to hear to hear all the
46:21
Speaker 21: and and uh you know, uh TJ. You were listening
46:24
Speaker 21: last night to the scanner traffic as well to hear
46:27
Speaker 21: the you know, the fire operations. These guys, you know,
46:30
Speaker 21: the one that I heard that it's got me because
46:32
Speaker 21: it brought back to my mind Katrina was them beating
46:37
Speaker 21: on the roof, yes, and and trying to get the
46:40
Speaker 21: people out, and they said, we need saws to get
46:42
Speaker 21: in here. And so they had the salts crew that
46:45
Speaker 21: was coming in to try and cut these people out
46:46
Speaker 21: of the attic.
46:47
Speaker 8: It reminded me of the stories of Pearl Harbor, the
46:51
Speaker 8: Arizona men tapping on the whull of the Arizona and
46:54
Speaker 8: other men on the other side trying to cut through
46:56
Speaker 8: to get to them. I mean, these these stories. Last
46:59
Speaker 8: night it was as if you were listening to traffic
47:04
Speaker 8: being directed, except all of the roads in Weston were
47:07
Speaker 8: completely submerged. It was all boats. It wasn't cars, laundry
47:11
Speaker 8: lists for each boat, of houses to go to to
47:14
Speaker 8: get people. It was just it was astonishing. I've never
47:16
Speaker 8: heard anything some of these areas that you're talking about.
47:18
Speaker 8: I mean, we were used to it.
47:19
Speaker 3: Here in the Canal Valley. It's certainly where I am
47:20
Speaker 3: from and TJ is from. We know about the hollers
47:23
Speaker 3: and the background. We're talking about interstates here, yeah, to
47:26
Speaker 3: a certain extent, and we're talking about Corridor h is there.
47:30
Speaker 21: There are parts of it that, as I was told
47:32
Speaker 21: last night, you can't believe where the water is sitting
47:35
Speaker 21: on quarridor h even the parts where you start to
47:39
Speaker 21: go up the hill. He's like, there are parts where
47:41
Speaker 21: you where you go up the hill, the hills covered,
47:44
Speaker 21: so you know I mean, I'm listening right now, they're talking.
47:47
Speaker 21: There's they said, hey, where is They just said, where's
47:49
Speaker 21: the riverboat? A river rescue or swift water rescue crew,
47:53
Speaker 21: and they said, it's on Clark Avenue.
47:56
Speaker 3: It's on Clark Avenue.
47:57
Speaker 8: Two boats last night in Lewis County staged at the
48:01
Speaker 8: Wendy's in Weston whose motors were not powerful enough with
48:07
Speaker 8: the current of the flooding to be able to be deployed.
48:11
Speaker 8: They tried to get them out of the staging area.
48:13
Speaker 8: The current was too powerful. It pushed them back in.
48:17
Speaker 8: The motor boat could not overtake the current of the floodwaters.
48:20
Speaker 3: I don't want to make this all about us, because
48:22
Speaker 3: we are going to spend UH talk line and Metro
48:24
Speaker 3: News midday talking about this. But Brian, anything in the
48:27
Speaker 3: Kanal Valley because this is the local show.
48:28
Speaker 13: So correct.
48:29
Speaker 3: What did we go through here on the love Well, it's.
48:31
Speaker 2: Not a lot.
48:32
Speaker 21: Now, we had the twenty winning last night. It was
48:34
Speaker 21: in southern Kanaal County. We'd had we think there was
48:36
Speaker 21: a little bit of damage on a couple of hilltops down.
48:39
Speaker 3: Around Campbell's Creek.
48:40
Speaker 21: Uh and then uh and then he also had some
48:43
Speaker 21: of the flash flooded warnings that were in southern parts
48:45
Speaker 21: of Kanac County and into sections of Fayette County. Nothing significant,
48:50
Speaker 21: but water did come up in a few spots. We
48:52
Speaker 21: had more damage further down when you know, down across
48:55
Speaker 21: parts of Fayette County. We lucked out pretty well. But yeah,
48:59
Speaker 21: here the on value, we absolutely did. I saw somebody
49:02
Speaker 21: and Ripley said, well, we've barely got a sprinkling. Just
49:04
Speaker 21: had a picture of the sunshine, I said, and I
49:06
Speaker 21: just said, be glad that's what you got.
49:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly exactly, And of course our thoughts and prayers,
49:10
Speaker 3: as I said, go out to everybody up in that area.
49:12
Speaker 3: Jane Lou Weston Buchanan, and we're going to have all
49:16
Speaker 3: these folks on the show, try to get report as
49:18
Speaker 3: best we can, because if we sell services down nine
49:21
Speaker 3: to one, one doesn't have service, or.
49:22
Speaker 21: At least they're bringing in the cellars on wheels, they've
49:26
Speaker 21: deployed starlinks. I mean, there's lots of things that's happening
49:29
Speaker 21: right now that you can't imagine, but we're listening to
49:31
Speaker 21: it and we're getting people in there. The worst thing
49:35
Speaker 21: right now, Clarksburg rivers coming up major flood states going
49:38
Speaker 21: into downtown Clarksburg.
49:39
Speaker 3: And that's what we'll be looking at over the next
49:41
Speaker 3: twenty four to forty eight hours. Brian Hughes, Thanks man,
49:44
Speaker 3: thanks for everything you've done here Forrest and it continues.
49:47
Speaker 3: TJ and Wilson coming up with talk Line. I'll be
49:49
