Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, we got a little bleach in a rag.
- 0:02Speaker 1: We're cleaning out the sound fridge. It's one more thing.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Armstrong and Getty.
- 0:07Speaker 1: One more thing. The many people that grab sound for
- 0:13Speaker 1: this show, Michael and Katie and Hanson, grabbed so many
- 0:16Speaker 1: interesting things today, we couldn't get them all onto the show.
- 0:19Speaker 1: So we're going to play some of them for you now.
- 0:21Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We have music for this.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Thanks, metal guy.
- 0:26Speaker 1: That's really good. I'm confused by this one. AI researchers
- 0:30Speaker 1: are taking up smoking? Let's hear it.
- 0:32Speaker 5: I think there's a profound truth to Pascal saying that
- 0:35Speaker 5: every human has a God-shaped hole in their heart. Many
- 0:37Speaker 5: of these folks in Silicon Valley who are building this
- 0:39Speaker 5: technology have filled that hole with.
- 0:41Speaker 3: The machine god of AGI.
- 0:43Speaker 5: So many AI researchers have started smoking as a way
- 0:46Speaker 5: of signaling to other researchers how much they believe in AI.
- 0:50Speaker 3: What?
- 0:50Speaker 6: That makes no sense. I believe so.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Much in AI that it's going to cure cancer. So
- 0:56Speaker 5: I'm showing you my chips are all in.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I don't believe that for a second. I like the
- 1:01Speaker 1: Pascal God-shaped hole stuff, which I've read a lot about.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's very interesting. But I don't believe that you think, well,
- 1:08Speaker 1: AI can cure cancer. And I've always wanted to smoke,
- 1:11Speaker 1: but I didn't because of the cancer. But now I can.
- 1:15Speaker 3: That was the guy who's the chief technology officer from Planter.
- 1:18Speaker 3: And he would know that weirdo culture better than me.
- 1:23Speaker 3: than I would.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Good point. It is a weirdo culture.
- 1:26Speaker 4: It's Palantir, right?
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it's misspelled on my sheet.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Well, that's an interesting thing. What's the God-shaped hole got
- 1:35Speaker 1: to do with the smoking, though? They're that devoted to it?
- 1:40Speaker 4: Isn't it their way of saying, I'm one of you?
- 1:44Speaker 4: Sort of like how people were mastering COVID. They're smoking
- 1:48Speaker 4: a cigarette.
- 1:48Speaker 3: No, what he's trying to say is that they are
- 1:50Speaker 3: so completely convinced that this is our new God that
- 1:53Speaker 3: That they are taking up smoking to prove they don't
- 1:56Speaker 3: fear cancer because their god is going to cure it.
- 1:59Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I like that.
- 2:01Speaker 4: It's a bit of a roundabout theory. Not sure I'd
- 2:04Speaker 4: buy that.
- 2:06Speaker 1: This is a story about the online dating app Bumble.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Well, guys, this might be a first.
- 2:12Speaker 6: I might be getting stood up.
- 2:13Speaker 7: It's 9.30.
- 2:14Speaker 2: He called me at 9.07.
- 2:15Speaker 6: I was like, oh, I'm a block away.
- 2:17Speaker 7: Clearly he was lying. Oh, and the fact that I
- 2:19Speaker 7: ordered a shrimp cocktail and.
- 2:20Speaker 2: A drink, and now I'm going to have to pay
- 2:22Speaker 2: for that myself. For nothing. For me to sit here.
- 2:24Speaker 6: Oh, my God, you guys.
- 2:26Speaker 7: I just tried to call him to let him know, like, hey,
- 2:28Speaker 7: I'm leaving.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It went straight to voicemail.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:33Speaker 6: I just got stood up, you guys.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I need a break.
- 2:36Speaker 7: I need a break from dating. It's too much. My
- 2:38Speaker 7: heart can't handle it.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Oh, my God. I wish I hadn't played that. That
- 2:42Speaker 1: made me less alive.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Jack, she's an L.A.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Influencer, as it turns out. Oh, really?
- 2:51Speaker 6: No way.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And her not even close to interesting experience with Bumble,
- 2:58Speaker 1: she posted because, so who are you influencing? You're not
- 3:01Speaker 1: influencing anybody. You're influencing people to think I need to
- 3:04Speaker 1: do something with my time other than watch your videos.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Well, and it's amazing and surprising because she's crazy hot
- 3:11Speaker 3: and her Instagram's full of really sexy shots and she
- 3:15Speaker 3: has duck lips and everything.
- 3:16Speaker 4: This is all so shocking.
- 3:18Speaker 2: They need to call these people something other than influencers.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 3:23Speaker 3: No, because I think the very word is starting to
- 3:27Speaker 3: acquire a eye-rolling-y quality to it.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It's got negative connotations, at least to me. I don't
- 3:31Speaker 1: know about to most people, but it certainly does to me.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That means, oh, watch them. They're all kinds of phony.
- 3:37Speaker 1: If I'm out and.
- 3:38Speaker 7: About talking to a group of people and I say, oh,
- 3:40Speaker 7: what do you do? And they go, oh, I'm an influencer. Yeah,
- 3:42Speaker 7: my eyes are going to roll so hard they're going
- 3:44Speaker 7: to get stuck.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Get away from me. How about this for a new word? Postitute.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Because they post the videos. They're a post-itute.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, see, the theme here is look at this gorgeous, gorgeous,
- 3:57Speaker 3: shapely young woman. She got stood up for a date,
- 4:00Speaker 3: and she's amazed, and so better click on her various things.
- 4:03Speaker 1: If you are spending your life clicking on hot people
- 4:07Speaker 1: to listen to their inane comments or find out what
- 4:10Speaker 1: they wore today, please sell me your time. Because you
- 4:13Speaker 1: might as well die now. Your life is useless.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Jack, she went viral in 2024 for using a solo
- 4:20Speaker 3: professional glam photo of herself for her holiday cards. In
- 4:23Speaker 3: hopes of attracting a man.
- 4:25Speaker 1: All right.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:26Speaker 1: She was criticized.
- 4:28Speaker 4: That's rude and tacky. That's not what the holidays are about.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Lucky man.
- 4:31Speaker 4: And other idiots online who need real lives.
- 4:34Speaker 7: Now that I know she's an influencer hearing that audio,
- 4:37Speaker 7: I'll take things that didn't happen for 500 Alex.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah. No kidding. No kidding.
- 4:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 1: No kidding. Here's a new prank. Speaking of online, it's hot. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 4:55Speaker 8: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 4:56Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.

- 5:06Speaker 4: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 5:09Speaker 6: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 5:10Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 5:13Speaker 4: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 5:16Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> Okay,
- 5:18Speaker 1: it's a lot of noise. You don't know what it is.
- 5:20Speaker 1: This is what it is now. Women prank their men
- 5:23Speaker 1: into thinking they're hurt to see how long it takes
- 5:26Speaker 1: them to react.
- 5:27Speaker 4: So they can then post that video online.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Right.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And become an influencer. That second clip.
- 5:34Speaker 7: Is a pregnant woman who is downstairs in what looks
- 5:37Speaker 7: like a basement area, and she screams to her husband, baby, honey,
- 5:41Speaker 7: there's something wrong with the baby.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 5:44Speaker 3: May you die alone surrounded by the cats that will
- 5:47Speaker 3: eat your corpse.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And then he had to be thinking, I'm having a
- 5:50Speaker 1: kid with this person.
- 5:51Speaker 7: Well, what you should see is in the video, he,
- 5:54Speaker 7: I mean, there's a flight of stairs and I don't
- 5:56Speaker 7: think he touched one of them to get.
- 5:58Speaker 4: To the bottom.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I mean, he's.
- 5:59Speaker 1: No, you wouldn't. It'd be the most horrifying thing that
- 6:03Speaker 1: unless you served in combat, it'd be the most horrifying
- 6:05Speaker 1: thing that ever happened in your life. When your wife
- 6:08Speaker 1: yells at your pregnant wife.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Flying to the aid of his pregnant wife and his
- 6:12Speaker 3: unborn child.
- 6:13Speaker 4: So funny. So hilarious. I wonder how many clicks we've gotten.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Yep.
- 6:17Speaker 7: So after that happened, she got whatever reaction out of
- 6:20Speaker 7: him that she got.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Then she put it online.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Right. You're right. That's a good point because it wasn't
- 6:26Speaker 1: just poor judgment to which she thinks, you know, you're right.
- 6:30Speaker 1: That was horrible. I shouldn't do that. Blah, blah, blah.
- 6:33Speaker 5: No.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I can get clicks and clicks are worth because most
- 6:37Speaker 1: of these people aren't making money.
- 6:40Speaker 5: No.
- 6:41Speaker 6: So.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Just approval. Man, that one made me sad also.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yeah, again, I think my oath passed you by, but
- 6:52Speaker 3: I stand by it.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Newsy item here. I heard a little bit about it,
- 6:58Speaker 1: about this roller coaster disaster in Georgia.
- 7:01Speaker 9: A person has died after falling off of a roller
- 7:04Speaker 9: coaster at Six Flags over Georgia. Witnesses describe a horrific scene,
- 7:08Speaker 9: saying the rider hit parts of the ride several times
- 7:11Speaker 9: after falling from the car.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Police say several others were injured.
- 7:15Speaker 9: Goliath is one of the park's most popular rides, featuring
- 7:18Speaker 9: a drop of nearly 200 feet. The park was shut
- 7:22Speaker 9: down immediately following the death as police worked to figure
- 7:25Speaker 9: out how this happened.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I wonder how it did happen.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And it got more gruesome as to this morning's gone on.
- 7:33Speaker 7: Uh, the people were reporting that he not only hit
- 7:37Speaker 7: the ride, but he actually hit a couple of the
- 7:39Speaker 7: riders that they made and they made like eye contact
- 7:42Speaker 7: before it. And when everybody got off the ride, they
- 7:45Speaker 7: were just covered in blood.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Uh, do we have any stories that don't make me sad?
- 7:50Speaker 1: I want my money in charge here. I want my
- 7:53Speaker 1: money back.
- 7:54Speaker 4: This is outrageous.
- 7:57Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I was the ride.
- 7:58Speaker 4: It was good.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It was scary. If the goal was to be scary.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Because the guy fell to his death and landed on me.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Now I'm all bloody.
- 8:06Speaker 7: And this is the worst. Well, this isn't the worst
- 8:08Speaker 7: part of it. The worst part of it is that
- 8:09Speaker 7: he's no longer here. But you know how they take
- 8:12Speaker 7: those pictures of you on those rides?
- 8:14Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Apparently he's in the frame of someone's shot.
- 8:19Speaker 4: There's a souvenir picture of them screaming on the roller coaster.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Oh, there's the guy.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Right.
- 8:24Speaker 1: We're working up towards humor. So if you can put up. Okay.
- 8:27Speaker 1: This one's not sad. This is just. This is just
- 8:31Speaker 1: modern America. Here we go.
- 8:32Speaker 8: History at the annual giant pumpkin way off in Rhode
- 8:36Speaker 8: Island Saturday. Ron Wallace appears to be the first person
- 8:38Speaker 8: to grow a pumpkin over 3,000 pounds, 3,156.
- 8:43Speaker 1: To be exact.
- 8:44Speaker 8: If certified, that would be a new record and a
- 8:47Speaker 8: dream for Wallace, who has wanted to grow the world's
- 8:49Speaker 8: biggest pumpkin since he was a kid.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Wow, that's a BFP. 3,000 pound pumpkin.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Got to be certified, though. Go through the whole pumpkin
- 8:58Speaker 3: certification process.
- 9:00Speaker 1: My uncle got so obsessed with growing the biggest pumpkin
- 9:03Speaker 1: in Iowa one year. He was so into it. Doing
- 9:07Speaker 1: all the research online about getting the right seeds and
- 9:09Speaker 1: sunlight and water and all this different sort of stuff.
- 9:13Speaker 1: He didn't win, so that was his one time. He
- 9:15Speaker 1: took one shot at it. He was retired. Yeah, that's
- 9:17Speaker 1: as good a thing to do as anything. Cool little
- 9:21Speaker 1: farm he had there in Iowa.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Give it a shot.
- 9:23Speaker 6: Did he get a large pumpkin, though?
- 9:25Speaker 1: He did end up with a large pumpkin, yes. Excellent guess.
- 9:28Speaker 3: But he didn't pass thinking, I wish I'd tried to
- 9:31Speaker 3: build or grow the world's giantest book.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Right. Bucket list.
- 9:35Speaker 4: He took his shot.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And then finally, there's a little humor. Jerry Seinfeld is
- 9:39Speaker 1: a stand-up comedian of some note talking about Halloween costumes.
- 9:43Speaker 6: The first couple of years, I made my own costumes, which,
- 9:45Speaker 6: of course, suck. The ghost, the hobo, no good. Then finally,
- 9:50Speaker 6: third year, begging the parents, got the Superman Halloween costume,
- 9:54Speaker 6: not surprisingly. Cardboard box, cellophane top, mask included. Remember the
- 10:00Speaker 6: rubber band on the back of that mask? That was
- 10:02Speaker 6: a quality item there, wasn't it? That was good for
- 10:05Speaker 6: about 10 seconds before it snapped out of that cheap
- 10:07Speaker 6: little staple they put it in there with. You go
- 10:11Speaker 6: to your first house, trick or snap, it broke, I
- 10:13Speaker 6: don't believe it. Wait up, you guys, I gotta fix it!
- 10:18Speaker 6: That's what kids say, they don't say wait. They say,
- 10:20Speaker 6: wait up! Hey, wait up! Because when you're little, your
- 10:23Speaker 6: life is up. The future is up. Everything you want
- 10:26Speaker 6: is up. Wait up, hold up, shut up. Mom, I'll
- 10:30Speaker 6: clean up. Let me stay up. Parents, of course, are
- 10:34Speaker 6: just the opposite. Everything is down. Just calm down. Slow down.
- 10:40Speaker 6: Come down here. Sit down. Put that down.
- 10:47Speaker 1: There you go. We ended on a light note after
- 10:49Speaker 1: people being bludgeoned by roller coasters and tricking their husbands
- 10:55Speaker 1: into thinking their pregnancy had gone wrong and all that stuff.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Cheap Chinese Halloween costumes that probably burst into flames.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Every costume exactly the same, just a different print of color.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Those were good times. Thank you, Michael, for that clip,
- 11:12Speaker 1: or whoever grabbed it.
- 11:13Speaker 4: You're welcome. Well, I guess that's it.
