- 0:15Kearns: Why not scotch?
- 0:16Ryan: it's a auburn
- 0:18Kearns: not listen YouTube.
- 0:20It's not scotch, it's cranberry juice.
- 0:22He has a UTI.
- 0:24Okay.
- 0:26Ryan: I love cranberry juice too.
- 0:28But no, this is, uh, Arizona raspberry iced tea.
- 0:31Delicious.
- 0:32I prefer
- 0:33Kearns: It's the new Mountain Dew flavor.
- 0:35Arizona Raspberry iced tea.
- 0:39Ryan: Man.
- 0:40Imagine
- 0:41Kearns: You are never gonna outrun that one.
- 0:42Ryan: Mix this
- 0:43Jon: hot.
- 0:44Ryan: That would be, I would try it.
- 0:46I I'm not gonna try the Baja Pie though.
- 0:49I'm not trying that,
- 0:51Kearns: I can't handle that.
- 0:52Ryan: catastrophe.
- 0:53But
- 0:54Kearns: Imagine what that'll do to your pancreas.
- 0:56Ryan: I, some of the food that was served in this film is questionable
- 1:01too, especially at the Last Supper.
- 1:03And for all.
- 1:05Kearns: film is that?
- 1:06Ryan: off, happy Thanksgiving.
- 1:07All you Xeno maniacs out there listening, watching.
- 1:11'cause thi this episode is airing on Thanksgiving, ironically,
- 1:16Kearns: Argue with your drunk uncle.
- 1:17Great.
- 1:18Get the cranberry sauce.
- 1:19It's time.
- 1:20It's time for some good family.
- 1:21Fun.
- 1:22Jon: The best holiday.
- 1:24Ryan: so that's fine.
- 1:27Jon: The best holiday.
- 1:28Ryan: It's the best
- 1:29Kearns: It's the nappies.
- 1:32Yeah.
- 1:32Jon: They,
- 1:33Kearns: Holiday,
- 1:35Jon: I, well, I mean, yeah, think about it.
- 1:36It has everything that a good holiday should have.
- 1:40Kearns: rest,
- 1:41Jon: Lots and lots of food, football, and an app
- 1:44Kearns: and a nap.
- 1:45Yeah.
- 1:45Jon: state.
- 1:47It's it.
- 1:48Kearns: member chosen as the sacrifice to
- 1:50to
- 1:50Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:51Kearns: prepare everything.
- 1:52Unfortunately.
- 1:53Ryan: in Festivus.
- 1:53I, oh, sorry.
- 1:54Wrong holiday.
- 1:57Jon: It's, you know, it's state sponsored gluttony
- 2:01Ryan: but we accept.
- 2:02Jon: and you can't go, you can't go wrong there.
- 2:05Mom's not gonna tell you you can't eat an eighth.
- 2:07Helping of mashed potatoes.
- 2:10Kearns: I don't think my mom ever would've told me that, to
- 2:12Ryan: Uh,
- 2:12Kearns: honest.
- 2:12Ryan: bring me the green bean casserole, cornbread casserole,
- 2:16Kearns: that's it.
- 2:17Ryan: sweet potatoes with the marshmallows.
- 2:22I, I expect that
- 2:23Kearns: I don't like candy dms.
- 2:25I never eat the candy dms.
- 2:27Yeah, I'm a weirdo.
- 2:27I don't like sweet on my plate.
- 2:29On Thanksgiving, I don't do cranberry sauce either.
- 2:31Gimme gravy instead.
- 2:33Jon: No, I don't do cranberry sauce either.
- 2:34Gravy and stuffing.
- 2:35Ryan: a cranberry
- 2:36Kearns: she demon in my house just screamed blasphemy across the room.
- 2:41Ryan: She's like, I'm making cranberry sauce this year.
- 2:45Kearns: likes the sweet.
- 2:46When my wife was pregnant with our first spawn, she sat down in the morning
- 2:51at like nine in the morning with all the leftovers, and she loaded a plate
- 2:55that was like this big, this high.
- 2:58And the thing about it that freaked me out was that she didn't heat it up.
- 3:02just sat there and fed on it
- 3:04for like 45 minutes.
- 3:06Ryan: you know what that reminds me?
- 3:08That reminds me of a classic film called Bring
- 3:11Jon: That's okay.
- 3:12Ryan: Like just the
- 3:14Kearns: It doesn't remind me anything of ringer back.
- 3:18Ryan: like at the
- 3:19Kearns: Oh, okay.
- 3:20Ryan: it there, but there's a lot of shoveling in this film and we
- 3:24are talking about Thanksgiving, ladies and gentlemen, Eli Roth.
- 3:27Kearns: shoveling.
- 3:28There's no shoveling.
- 3:31But I like the transition one grave is dug in this film.
- 3:35Jon: Nope, nope.
- 3:38Kearns: Alright, I love you
- 3:39Jon: No shovel, no shoveling in Thanksgiving.
- 3:42Kearns: This movie, came highly recommended by you.
- 3:45Ryan's like plowing through the transition.
- 3:47Like, get to it guys, so we're gonna do it.
- 3:49and he's right.
- 3:50Uh, they've been talking to me about this movie for a while
- 3:53now, and was not excited.
- 3:56I don't get excited for Slashers, period.
- 3:58I just wasn't excited.
- 4:00Valentine's Day.
- 4:00I wasn't excited for any of 'em, just not my thing.
- 4:03I like them when I start watching them.
- 4:04I like them.
- 4:05This was one of my favorite slashers that I've ever seen.
- 4:08Ryan: it's like the generation, well, the years, 'cause like you and Jada are like
- 4:13a month apart and she feels the same vibe.
- 4:15It's like that
- 4:17Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:18Ryan: December and January, you're like, I don't know about slasher films here.
- 4:22Jon: Implying
- 4:23Kearns: Here's a
- 4:24Jon: is Thanksgiving.
- 4:25A menstrual movie
- 4:26Kearns: was gonna say that I have my time of the month.
- 4:29Ryan: No, no, no, no,
- 4:30Kearns: I'm glad that
- 4:31Jon: is Menzie.
- 4:32Kearns: I are synced up though.
- 4:34Jon: Your cycles are the same.
- 4:36Ryan: I feel like this movie, the reason why this slasher works,
- 4:41John, you're still okay?
- 4:42I thought we lost you there.
- 4:43You froze up there for a
- 4:45Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:45Jon: No, I did freeze for a minute there.
- 4:47You guys froze and it was awesome.
- 4:50It was, it was wonderful.
- 4:52Kearns: for the flow and the banter.
- 4:54Jon: I love when it freezes when Kearns is in the middle
- 4:57of like some weird face, like,
- 5:01Ryan: I
- 5:01Kearns: Yeah.
- 5:02Ryan: a minute.
- 5:02He's in the labyrinth, the matrix.
- 5:05Jon: so for, so for
- 5:06Kearns: next in the morning.
- 5:07Jon: a split second, I thought he was having a stroke and I wasn't frozen and
- 5:13Ryan: scared the other day.
- 5:13I was like, I smell something burning.
- 5:15Jada's like I don't, and I'm like, oh God, it's, it's happening.
- 5:19Kearns: It happening.
- 5:20It's
- 5:21Jon: Oh
- 5:21Ryan: but it's happening.
- 5:22Jon: no,
- 5:23Kearns: trick is for that?
- 5:24Jon: just burning tote
- 5:25Kearns: listeners?
- 5:26Yeah.
- 5:26Just burning to it.
- 5:27Do you know those middle aged listeners?
- 5:28The trick is to, if you don't know this trick, then I guess you're just gonna die.
- 5:31But.
- 5:32you stick your tongue out and do the, the roll.
- 5:35you can roll your tongue, you're not having a stroke.
- 5:37Jon: that way.
- 5:38Kearns: Doctor, if you, you can roll your tongue.
- 5:41You're not having a stroke.
- 5:47Ryan: I'm good.
- 5:49Kearns: I'm getting, eh, just roll your tongue.
- 5:51It'll make you feel better.
- 5:54You're right.
- 5:54Well, you know what's funny?
- 5:55This is what marriage is about.
- 5:57She said, you're right.
- 6:00But there was the whole lead up, like, you're an idiot.
- 6:03Ryan: there a little sarcasm thrown into it?
- 6:07Kearns: Oh,
- 6:07Ryan: No,
- 6:08Jon: Because, when you're married, even when you're right, you're an idiot.
- 6:13Kearns: I mean, fair.
- 6:15Oh, the tongue is asymmetrical.
- 6:16We're getting into geometry.
- 6:18We're gonna, we're gonna move on.
- 6:19We're gonna
- 6:20Ryan: English pe.
- 6:20I mean, we're not math people.
- 6:22We're English people here.
- 6:24Kearns: englishy folk.
- 6:27Jon: Definitely not an anatomy.
- 6:29Kearns: Let's hit, um,
- 6:30Ryan: 50
- 6:31Kearns: let's hit the cast.
- 6:33The cast of the movie.
- 6:34Who are the notable names?
- 6:37Patrick mcd.
- 6:38Dreamy.
- 6:40And that's it.
- 6:41Ryan: I am Addison Ray.
- 6:43Jon: I mean, Gina Shan's in there for a minute.
- 6:46Kearns: is.
- 6:47That's Addison Ray, the singer,
- 6:49the porn star.
- 6:50Ryan: yes.
- 6:51All the above.
- 6:53Kearns: Yeah.
- 6:54I was like, it's gotta be one of those two things.
- 6:57Jon: I'm gonna go with the singer.
- 6:58It's probably the singer.
- 7:00Kearns: I know there's a popular one out there now, like a new
- 7:03Christina Aguilera ish person.
- 7:06that Addison Ray?
- 7:07Ryan: I don't know.
- 7:09Uh,
- 7:10Kearns: It gets naked, oiled up, runs around singing and dancing on the stage.
- 7:14Ryan: um,
- 7:16Jon: I mean, that could be just about anybody.
- 7:18Ryan: much.
- 7:19Jon: I.
- 7:21Kearns: Is there a new Ariana Grande style person?
- 7:24Is.
- 7:25Ryan: so out of it with it.
- 7:26I mean, I just saw a Judas priest and Alice Cooper, and I'm
- 7:30Kearns: right, so none of us, we're all, we're all too old and
- 7:34also not creepy enough to know about the newest pop star, so
- 7:38Jon: No.
- 7:39Kearns: K-Pop Demon hunters is about as in tune to pop as I am, but
- 7:44Jon: Nope.
- 7:45Kearns: Ray is in this movie, apparently.
- 7:46Cool.
- 7:47Jon: is.
- 7:47She is.
- 7:48She's Gabby.
- 7:49Kearns: Ga,
- 7:51Ryan: is it for luck
- 7:53Jon: Who?
- 7:55Melver Lock.
- 7:57Kearns: sorry, I had to mute to Burp
- 7:59Ryan: or lock?
- 8:00Um,
- 8:00Jon: Ne
- 8:01Kearns: Warlock.
- 8:01Yeah, I was gonna say
- 8:02Jon: Yeah.
- 8:03Ryan: Jessica,
- 8:04Jon: I got you.
- 8:05Ryan: amongst, yep.
- 8:08Now,
- 8:10Jon: Yeah.
- 8:11Kearns: it's
- 8:11Jon: There.
- 8:12Kearns: I'm such a, oh, Rick Hoffman, Gina Gershon.
- 8:15Guys, we're really
- 8:17Jon: I,
- 8:17Kearns: here,
- 8:17Jon: say, I say,
- 8:18Kearns: out
- 8:19Jon: no, no.
- 8:19I, uh, I said, Gina Han,
- 8:23I said her.
- 8:24I said her.
- 8:25I love her.
- 8:26Kearns: Good on.
- 8:26And she's in the movie for about 14 seconds and also happens to be like one
- 8:30of the most pivotal pieces of the movie.
- 8:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:33Ryan: it's also, I feel like that's a rough death in the beginning the scalping
- 8:38of the hair, the crunching of the carts.
- 8:41The, I I
- 8:42Kearns: Yeah,
- 8:42Ryan: though, seeing it hurts a lot, but the mentality of it
- 8:48hurts even more because it's like are savages on Black Friday
- 8:54Kearns: yeah.
- 8:55Ryan: I, don't know if you guys have been out on Black Friday.
- 8:58I have,
- 8:59Kearns: Oh yeah.
- 8:59Ryan: It's, it's a nightmare.
- 9:02Jon: I've been on both sides of that.
- 9:04Kearns: Yeah, no, I agree.
- 9:05Tim Dillon kind of brings that scene to a, not even a campy place, so
- 9:09this is why I didn't care that she died or anybody gets hurt they do.
- 9:14The arm break for Golden Boy's arm
- 9:17Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 9:17Kearns: is hilarious.
- 9:18It breaks in like 16 spots when it gets stepped on or whatever.
- 9:21That was hilarious.
- 9:23And also Tim Dylan running away was as the security guard, was one of the
- 9:27funniest things that could have been like,
- 9:28Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 9:29Kearns: I get paid minimum wage.
- 9:30I'm outta here.
- 9:33Also doesn't get murdered in the movie
- 9:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 9:36Kearns: he's not there.
- 9:40Oh no, he's like one of the first ones who gets murdered.
- 9:43Jon: Yeah.
- 9:43Ryan: second.
- 9:44Kearns: Yeah, he is the second
- 9:45Jon: He is number two.
- 9:46Kearns: remembered his head.
- 9:47Ryan: cat fails to warn him.
- 9:48That's why you can't.
- 9:49Kearns: And that's when you realize that the murderer is like a decent person
- 9:53because he feeds the cat on the way out.
- 9:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 9:56Kearns: He scores some points right there.
- 9:58He's like, Aw, poor kitty.
- 9:59Ryan: somewhat
- 10:00Kearns: So.
- 10:00Ryan: 50.
- 10:01you know, we were talking about questions and I actually wanted
- 10:04to ask you guys a question.
- 10:07Is this a fun slasher to watch?
- 10:10you get a lot of slashers recently and in recent times, I should
- 10:14say, and they're very dreadful.
- 10:17Um, meaning like the ambiance, the visuals, like hell fest.
- 10:22I was excited for, and it's a decent slasher, but I didn't feel like
- 10:26it held up to the hype while with Thanksgiving, like, as an audience
- 10:31member, you're attracted to it.
- 10:32You're a tentative towards it.
- 10:34Kearns: So attractive.
- 10:36It's the most attractive slasher.
- 10:38Ryan: like my mind's like running on like the flash right now against Superman.
- 10:43Kearns: That's the perfect word.
- 10:44Choice.
- 10:44I'm just being a schmuck.
- 10:46Just thinking you couldn't have avoided that a schmuck.
- 10:50Um, no, you're right.
- 10:51It's, it is very engaging movie.
- 10:54It's the, the humor carries it too.
- 10:56It doesn't take itself seriously at
- 10:58Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 10:58Kearns: actually like a decent who done it.
- 11:00Ryan: Okay,
- 11:01Kearns: The kills are fun.
- 11:02They have the right amount of gore, but they're fun.
- 11:05But it's not a scary movie by any stretch of the imagination, nor is it a b movie.
- 11:10It's kind of
- 11:11Jon: No, no, it's, yeah, it's just right in that like, we're gonna make
- 11:18a decent slasher movie and it's, you know, little who dundy a little fun,
- 11:24a little lot of things and it works.
- 11:26Ryan: the comedy in it.
- 11:28Kearns: Yeah,
- 11:30it doesn't work without.
- 11:31Ryan: this, not to steal John shtick, but reading reviews for this film, a
- 11:36lot of people didn't like the comedy.
- 11:38They felt like it, made the tone uneven in some spots and I can get it.
- 11:43Where seeing it from a film perspective where like, it's like
- 11:46you feel dread at one moment and then it's like a comedy line.
- 11:49You're like, should I laugh at this scene?
- 11:51Should I not?
- 11:55Jon: Yeah, but I, I kind of like that.
- 11:57I, because it sort of intensifies both, like you get through the
- 12:02scary part and then something funny happens and it makes the laugh a
- 12:06little more significant, and then it goes back to something being scary.
- 12:10And that's a little scarier because you were just laughing your ass off.
- 12:14I like that at,
- 12:15Ryan: no, I definitely
- 12:16Kearns: Yeah, I guess like, um, Addison Ray's scene where she's jumping on the
- 12:21trampoline and getting knifed in the feet
- 12:24Jon: mm-hmm.
- 12:25Kearns: only part of the movie where I was like, oh.
- 12:26Ryan: Oh,
- 12:27Jon: Yeah.
- 12:28Ryan: wanna know the original scene?
- 12:31So
- 12:32Jon: You know where that, do you know where that knife winds up?
- 12:35Ryan: it's,
- 12:36Kearns: Little evil, dead homage.
- 12:39Ryan: much so, and it's very similar, the scene, but of course
- 12:43to get it past the sensors and all that, they did it like this.
- 12:47Jon: Yep.
- 12:49Yep.
- 12:50Kearns: I mean, I'm glad they cut it though.
- 12:51You don't need it.
- 12:52You don't, for this
- 12:53Jon: No, you don't need to do it
- 12:54Kearns: need that level.
- 12:56Jon: like it in a,
- 12:57Kearns: it
- 12:57Jon: in a Grindhouse trailer.
- 12:59It works because it's something that you would see in that type of movie, but
- 13:04they did ultimately didn't make that type of movie, so you don't need to do it.
- 13:08Ryan: some things though from the trailer.
- 13:11Jon: Oh, yeah.
- 13:12Yeah.
- 13:12Kearns: no beat, there's no missed goofy beat.
- 13:15It's goofy in the chase scenes.
- 13:17It's goofy.
- 13:17When they're fighting and murdering, it's goofy.
- 13:19The whole movie,
- 13:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 13:21Kearns: the, the comic relief characters.
- 13:23There's like three of them.
- 13:25There's, um, McCarty and the two Jocks.
- 13:28Both jocks are idiots.
- 13:30Ryan: I like
- 13:30Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 13:32Kearns: Now, McCarty is my favorite character in
- 13:34Jon: McCarty is the best.
- 13:36I absolutely, absolutely right.
- 13:43Kearns: that kid.
- 13:43He's been here for four days.
- 13:44He's been drinking white Zinfandel
- 13:48Ryan: A Cardi,
- 13:49Kearns: and then he gives him the Beretta, I think it was some form
- 13:52of Beretta, some little handheld
- 13:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 13:54Kearns: machine.
- 13:55He gives that to him.
- 13:57Uh.
- 13:58Just because he's like, yeah, survive long enough to give that back for free
- 14:02Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:02Kearns: of the game.
- 14:03Good for you.
- 14:03McCarty.
- 14:05Ryan: speak.
- 14:06Jon: Yeah.
- 14:06And
- 14:08Ryan: Yeah.
- 14:08Do you have a game
- 14:09Jon: of course, of course there's a game.
- 14:14Of course, there's, is there ever not a game?
- 14:18Is there ever not a game
- 14:20Ryan: I, I got some
- 14:22Jon: and.
- 14:22Ryan: That's a keeper.
- 14:23Cut, man.
- 14:24Is that true?
- 14:25Jon: It is a keeper Cut.
- 14:27And in the sort of spirit of the holiday, we're not doing all horror.
- 14:34Kearns: Oh, sweet.
- 14:37Jon: There is a, there is a theme.
- 14:38Kearns: out swinging.
- 14:40Jon: They are Thanksgiving movies.
- 14:43They are all Thanksgiving movies.
- 14:46Yep.
- 14:47So we,
- 14:47Kearns: guess the theme.
- 14:49Jon: no, no, it was gonna,
- 14:51Ryan: man.
- 14:52Jon: when we get towards the end, it's gonna be dead.
- 14:54It's gonna be dead.
- 14:55Giveaway.
- 14:56What this theme was, it is Thanksgiving movies.
- 15:00So keep or cut son-in-law.
- 15:04And remember it's gone forever.
- 15:06If you cut it like it doesn't exist, you can never see it again.
- 15:09Kearns: Is that the Stone Cold fox that's in Sin City?
- 15:16her, what's it?
- 15:17Jon: What's or what?
- 15:18Kearns: she was the woman in son-in-law.
- 15:21wild.
- 15:22Ryan: I think that's
- 15:23Kearns: I don't know her name.
- 15:24just remember her talking to Mickey Ro with no shirt on.
- 15:28Ryan: That
- 15:29Kearns: Um,
- 15:31Ryan: Oh, no car.
- 15:32Kearns: she's,
- 15:34Ryan: Carla.
- 15:34G Carla Guino.
- 15:38Jon: Yeah.
- 15:39Gino.
- 15:39Yeah.
- 15:42Kearns: this is a hard one to start with, dude, because the nineties
- 15:45in me is like, keep it Of course.
- 15:47Keep
- 15:47Jon: Huh?
- 15:48Kearns: Sure Bra.
- 15:50Ryan: I,
- 15:51Jon: The weasel.
- 15:52Kearns: He was the king of the nineties.
- 15:55Nobody had a more undeserved, great run than Polly Shore in the nineties.
- 15:59Spring break alone was like an experience he did not deserve to have.
- 16:06Jon: He, he lived well for a few years there.
- 16:08Kearns: gonna cut it.
- 16:08I hate this.
- 16:10Jon: Ooh.
- 16:11Kearns: Yes, he did peak years too, like his peak timeframe to do it as well.
- 16:16Lucky
- 16:17Jon: Yep.
- 16:18All right, so we have one keep and one cut.
- 16:20Kearns: and there's the, judge.
- 16:22it's the other attorney from my cousin Vinny back there.
- 16:25I can recognize that face anywhere.
- 16:28Jon: Yep.
- 16:28Ryan: Um, oh, what's his
- 16:30Jon: All right.
- 16:30Ryan: in Louis and Clark.
- 16:34Kearns: Old wrinkled white guy.
- 16:36Number two.
- 16:37Jon: Older, wrinkled, like, yeah.
- 16:38Yeah.
- 16:39Kearns: Did
- 16:39Jon: All right.
- 16:40Kearns: cut it?
- 16:40Ryan
- 16:41Ryan: it.
- 16:41I
- 16:41Jon: kept it.
- 16:42Ryan: I
- 16:44Kearns: do too,
- 16:45Ryan: did.
- 16:46Jon: Movie two.
- 16:47Kearns: John's a savage.
- 16:50Jon: Zach and Mary.
- 16:54Kearns: I am cutting this one too.
- 16:56Ryan: never,
- 16:57Kearns: love this one, but it's like a forgettable movie.
- 17:00Ryan: forgettable.
- 17:01There's some good scenes in it, but, uh, because here's the thing.
- 17:06If he's a savage John, thinking about you being a savage, I'm gonna waste an
- 17:12opportunity because if planes, trains, and automobiles are on here, I'm keeping that.
- 17:17Kearns: That's, yeah,
- 17:18Ryan: and that's a Thanksgiving
- 17:19Kearns: I,
- 17:21I've
- 17:22Jon: It is a Thanksgiving movie.
- 17:23Kearns: like in minds.
- 17:25Jon: movie.
- 17:26Kearns: of big ones in mind.
- 17:28Ryan: Oh, it's
- 17:28Jon: I, I will tell you, I will tell you, I would 100% keep this
- 17:33movie just for the Craig Robinson scene in the coffee shop where he,
- 17:38where he talks about Black Friday.
- 17:40Kearns: good scene.
- 17:41Jon: We just for that scene.
- 17:42But I love this movie.
- 17:43I love Zach and Mary, but I have that, big Kevin Smith soft spot.
- 17:49So movie three
- 17:54Grumpy Old Men.
- 17:56Ryan: The first or the first one,
- 17:59Jon: first, the first.
- 18:01The first.
- 18:01Yeah,
- 18:02Kearns: First
- 18:03Jon: This was,
- 18:04Kearns: Grumpy.
- 18:05Your old man is awesome too, but
- 18:06Ryan: one's a classic.
- 18:08Kearns: oh, hold on.
- 18:08He put up the collection, so this is both,
- 18:11Ryan: you?
- 18:11Jon: it's
- 18:12Kearns: that back.
- 18:13That's what the
- 18:13Jon: we'll, alright, fine, fine, fine.
- 18:16Both, fine.
- 18:17Both o only one, I think only one of them has Thanksgiving ties.
- 18:21So, but yeah,
- 18:23Ryan: so
- 18:24Jon: fine.
- 18:24If, if you cut the, if you cut this collection, both grumpy old
- 18:30men movies are gone forever and so are Walter Mattau and Jack Lemon.
- 18:35You don't even get to keep them.
- 18:38Kearns: Not even in my memories.
- 18:40Jon: Nowhere,
- 18:41Kearns: their skin flakes that I
- 18:42Jon: nowhere they're, they're wiped from existence.
- 18:46If you cut grumpy old men,
- 18:50nothing they ever did happen.
- 18:51Kearns: I love this movie.
- 18:53Oh, stop it.
- 18:56Stop it.
- 18:56You're hurting.
- 18:57You're hurting me now.
- 18:58Ryan: on.
- 18:58So if I say
- 18:59Kearns: Uh
- 19:00Ryan: will be
- 19:00Kearns: oh.
- 19:01Ryan: If I say yes, this will be two.
- 19:04Jon: be two also.
- 19:05Ryan: technically three.
- 19:06Kearns: He counts as two films, you mean?
- 19:08Jon: No, no.
- 19:09It ca Ryan's Ryan has one keep and one cut.
- 19:12You have two cuts.
- 19:14Kearns: I might cut this too.
- 19:15This is a tough one to keep.
- 19:17Jon: Ooh.
- 19:18Ryan: Hmm.
- 19:20Jon: All right, gentlemen.
- 19:21Kearns: but this is another one where I could live, my
- 19:23life with never watching these
- 19:24Jon: Ooh,
- 19:25Kearns: gonna cut it.
- 19:29Jon: Ryan.
- 19:30Ryan: It was nice knowing you, Mr. Lemon and Mr. Mattau.
- 19:35Kearns: Yeah, you're cutting it too.
- 19:36Ryan: The show the.
- 19:38Kearns: the scene where math I was eating is enough to cut this movie.
- 19:40Actually,
- 19:41Jon: All right.
- 19:42I mean, things could get,
- 19:47that's a cut, Ryan.
- 19:48Ryan: is a cut.
- 19:49Yeah.
- 19:50Kearns: there's seven left and I have to keep five of them.
- 19:53Jon: No, there's, you have five left.
- 19:56You have to keep four.
- 19:58Kearns: Oh God.
- 19:59I didn't know that.
- 19:59I thought we were going outta 10.
- 20:01Jon: Nope, it's eight.
- 20:02It's always keeper.
- 20:03Keeper, keeper.
- 20:04Cut is all I Can we keep or cut Grumpy old men.
- 20:09Kearns: overestimate the amount of information I'm able to retain these days.
- 20:13Let's go.
- 20:15Jon: All right,
- 20:15Kearns: do we got?
- 20:17Jon: next.
- 20:17Ryan: Yeah, keep.
- 20:19Why are we,
- 20:20Kearns: are we waiting for?
- 20:22Ryan: It's so good.
- 20:24is a
- 20:25Kearns: Mickey gets hyped.
- 20:27I like when he slaps him in the face.
- 20:30Now some old bum did that and he'll kill you.
- 20:36Jon: I love Rumpy too.
- 20:37Kearns: 'cause they don't call, um, Adrian retarded in this one.
- 20:40They actually treat her like a human being,
- 20:42Jon: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:45When The reality is she's always the smarter of the two.
- 20:48Ryan: She's
- 20:49Kearns: Oh, easily.
- 20:50Way
- 20:50Jon: Yeah, she's just quiet and awkward.
- 20:53Kearns: Yep.
- 20:55Jon: Uh, all right.
- 20:56Ryan: That's such in the first film, that's such a hard scene where he
- 20:59is just like, yeah, the, the retard.
- 21:01And he's like, don't call her that.
- 21:03it's
- 21:04Jon: Yeah,
- 21:05Kearns: should take her to the zoos.
- 21:07Love the zoo.
- 21:08And then he takes.
- 21:09Ryan: I'm like, whatcha you doing rock?
- 21:11He's like, oh, you,
- 21:15Jon: I mean, Rocky loved the zoo too, so what are we saying?
- 21:19Kearns: Yeah, well that's part of why he gets mad 'cause
- 21:22Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:23Kearns: the zoo all the time to see the gorillas.
- 21:26Ryan: It's nothing wrong with
- 21:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:28Kearns: This movie is one of the only sequels that's ever like,
- 21:30more than lived up to the hype.
- 21:32But the
- 21:33Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:33Kearns: is a masterpiece.
- 21:35Jon: Yeah.
- 21:35Kearns: not about winning.
- 21:36It's, that's a movie about the struggle, man.
- 21:40Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:41Kearns: Rocky
- 21:41Jon: would say,
- 21:42Kearns: American experience or what we wish
- 21:44Jon: I,
- 21:44Kearns: experience was like.
- 21:45Ryan: Rocky
- 21:46Jon: I would say.
- 21:48Yep.
- 21:49I would say this about Rocky.
- 21:50Kearns: break.
- 21:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:53I, but I would say this about Rocky.
- 21:55Rocky One is by far the best of the movies, but they get more enjoyable
- 22:01up until the end of Rocky four.
- 22:03Ryan: Yes.
- 22:05Yes, I agree with that.
- 22:06Jon: Then e everything after Rocky four is a rough watch.
- 22:11Kearns: Agreed.
- 22:12Ryan: like Balboa?
- 22:15Jon: No, not particularly.
- 22:16Kearns: Always
- 22:17Jon: I mean it,
- 22:17Kearns: speech,
- 22:18Jon: yeah.
- 22:19Kearns: they have him fight Tarver in it, like,
- 22:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 22:23Kearns: who cared?
- 22:25Jon: yeah,
- 22:26Ryan: I did.
- 22:27Jon: yeah.
- 22:27I mean, it, it's better, it's better than fighting to Tommy
- 22:31Morrison, but Tommy the Duke.
- 22:35Ryan: that, that's a,
- 22:36Kearns: That was dumb.
- 22:38Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 22:39Kearns: Even Rocky five was kind of like, nobody liked it.
- 22:43It was the end of a franchise.
- 22:45It was a terrible end of a franchise.
- 22:47'cause they should have stopped after four.
- 22:49Jon: Yeah.
- 22:50Kearns: and three had its place in that four movie series too.
- 22:53Like three was good for what three was where
- 22:56Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 22:57Kearns: and he
- 22:57Jon: Yeah.
- 22:58Kearns: his podium and stuff.
- 22:59It needed to be there.
- 23:00That'd be,
- 23:00Ryan: Yep.
- 23:01Jon: Yep.
- 23:01Kearns: cartoonish
- 23:02Ryan: Three.
- 23:03Jon: Well, yeah.
- 23:04Ryan: right?
- 23:06Kearns: Yeah.
- 23:07Three's the
- 23:07Jon: Yep.
- 23:08Three.
- 23:09Three is the robot, you know?
- 23:10Yeah.
- 23:11Four's.
- 23:11The
- 23:11Kearns: Yeah.
- 23:12Jon: four's, the robot.
- 23:14Three's, three's, clubber, lang and thunder lips, like the two big
- 23:18opponents in it are cartoonish.
- 23:21So
- 23:23Kearns: yeah,
- 23:24Jon: you and the two, the two main antagonists are
- 23:27cartoonish, which like, yeah,
- 23:29Kearns: come over here and see a real man Adrian.
- 23:32Jon: I'll bust you up.
- 23:33Kearns: music video.
- 23:34Like, get your mama right.
- 23:38Love Mr. T.
- 23:39Ryan: the fool.
- 23:40Jon: Yeah,
- 23:41Kearns: All right.
- 23:42So definitely a keep easiest keep you've ever had is Rocky two.
- 23:46Jon: well, we'll see.
- 23:47They might get easier, which could be unfortunate.
- 23:50Next one, the big chill.
- 23:54Ryan: I've never seen it.
- 23:55So I'm gonna cut it.
- 23:58Jon: Ooh,
- 23:58Ryan: Is it
- 23:59Jon: you're missing,
- 23:59Kearns: at Young Jeff Goldblum.
- 24:01Jon: it's a little bit comedy.
- 24:03It's more drama like it, I love this movie.
- 24:05It's, it's complex, sir. It's
- 24:08Kearns: with the porn mustache there?
- 24:09Ryan: it down.
- 24:10Jon: I believe so.
- 24:11Kearns: This one's kind of like, um,
- 24:13Jon: Yeah.
- 24:13Kearns: uh, not the brothers McMullen.
- 24:15What's the other stupid movie with Sarah Jessica Parker in it.
- 24:20Family Stone It's
- 24:22Jon: Yeah.
- 24:23Kearns: that's like that kind of vibe, Ryan.
- 24:25Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 24:25Kearns: movie
- 24:26Ryan: a good,
- 24:27Kearns: with some laughs.
- 24:28Ryan: too.
- 24:28All right, I'll check it out.
- 24:30Kearns: I'm gonna cut this.
- 24:31I'm gonna keep the rest blindly and cut.
- 24:33This, the big chill is like the, dessert you don't want to have on Thanksgiving,
- 24:39Ryan: Wait, so how many
- 24:40Jon: I, I think you,
- 24:41Kearns: still good
- 24:42Jon: there are three left.
- 24:45You can keep you, you keep two and cut one.
- 24:48And Kerns is keeping everything that's left, which may or may not be good
- 24:53Ryan: on here.
- 24:57Jon: next.
- 24:59Kearns: I'm so happy right now with my two.
- 25:01You have no idea.
- 25:02Rocky two Incent of a woman.
- 25:04Ryan, when you were working with me, how many times would
- 25:07I go into his stupid speech?
- 25:09bad.
- 25:09Ryan: uh,
- 25:10Kearns: of bad bumps.
- 25:11That's what I say.
- 25:13Ryan: you know what, this'll be my third pick,
- 25:16Kearns: was younger.
- 25:16Ryan: gonna put cent of a woman on here.
- 25:18I love that movie.
- 25:19Kearns: You
- 25:20Jon: You're keeping it
- 25:21Kearns: You have to.
- 25:22Ryan: be real.
- 25:23Kearns: What?
- 25:23Foolish fool would ever ever cut, sent of a woman.
- 25:27Ryan: my father-in-law.
- 25:28It was just him and I and first time watching it was with him.
- 25:32Amazing film
- 25:33Kearns: Aw,
- 25:33Ryan: that Thanksgiving scene.
- 25:36Jon: I would say the person who had cut this would, might have had to have been
- 25:40the person who kept son-in-law to start
- 25:43Ryan: I love son-in-law.
- 25:45Jon: be be
- 25:46Kearns: idea you were switching gears like this
- 25:48Jon: because, because you are about to get hammered.
- 25:52One of these next two movies is gonna get cut and I am going
- 25:56to destroy you either way.
- 25:59Kearns: So I get lucky I made the right choice.
- 26:02Jon: Well, yeah, you lucked out here because here's movie number seven,
- 26:07Kearns: Yeah, I gotta keep this.
- 26:08I'm happy with that.
- 26:09Ryan: on fairness, I didn't grow up with this, I grew up with the Christmas one.
- 26:16So,
- 26:18Jon: oh boy.
- 26:19They have Thanksgiving dinner on a ping pong table, man.
- 26:24Ryan: hey, listen.
- 26:25Jon: Look at what their,
- 26:26look at what their Thanksgiving dinner is.
- 26:29It's toast and popcorn and some pie and some jelly beans.
- 26:35Like, come on man,
- 26:38you're cutting Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.
- 26:40Ryan: I mean, if plane trains and automobiles is next, then yes, If not,
- 26:45Jon: But it might not be,
- 26:46Kearns: for this.
- 26:47Jon: but it might not be.
- 26:49Ryan: If it's
- 26:50Jon: I mean there there is, there is the aforementioned.
- 26:53Thanks.
- 26:53Killing.
- 26:55There is the aforementioned.
- 26:56Thanks.
- 26:57Killing out there.
- 26:59There's a, there's a few others that might make you regret this decision.
- 27:04So are we keeping her cutting Charlie Brown?
- 27:08Kearns: a good keep.
- 27:10Ryan: Oh, currents is keeping.
- 27:14Kearns: I
- 27:14Jon: Turns is keeping it,
- 27:15Kearns: And the next one,
- 27:19Jon: are you a communist or are you a loyal American Ryan?
- 27:25Are you a Patriot?
- 27:29Okay, so you're keeping Charlie Brown.
- 27:32So you're keeping Charlie Brown.
- 27:36Oh, you are not a patriot.
- 27:38You are not a Patriot, sir. You have sold out every value
- 27:43that makes this country great.
- 27:47An improvised Thanksgiving by a bunch of children, a bird and a dog.
- 27:53And you've cut it.
- 27:55Ryan: Woodstock.
- 27:56Woodstock, Snoopy.
- 27:58have names John.
- 28:00Jon: yeah, yeah.
- 28:02Uh, they do.
- 28:02Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy,
- 28:05Kearns: people know?
- 28:07Oh, John knows them.
- 28:09You just,
- 28:09Jon: violet,
- 28:11Kearns: Ryan
- 28:11Jon: Pigpen,
- 28:13Schroder, peppermint, Patty,
- 28:15Kearns: for
- 28:16Jon: Marcy.
- 28:18I said, I said Pigpen, right?
- 28:19I said Schroeder too.
- 28:21Ryan: Yeah.
- 28:21You said pigment.
- 28:22Kearns: Oh, you said, you said 'em all.
- 28:24You're, I think you're in good
- 28:25Jon: so,
- 28:26Kearns: you'd missed middle names and the parents.
- 28:28Jon: yeah, I think I might, I, oh, Franklin.
- 28:32one of these days I have to find the dubbed.
- 28:34Here's the, here's the last movie.
- 28:39Ryan saved himself a little bit.
- 28:42Kearns: Yeah, that Ryan did.
- 28:44Well, you still
- 28:45Jon: he,
- 28:45Kearns: though.
- 28:46Jon: he's still a communist.
- 28:48Ryan: Here's the
- 28:48Jon: He still cut Charlie Brown.
- 28:50Ryan: Here's
- 28:51Jon: He's,
- 28:53no, no, no.
- 28:54Socialist socialism is fine.
- 28:56There is nothing fine about cutting Charlie Brown.
- 28:59Ryan,
- 29:01Ryan: Listen, I,
- 29:03Jon: what did tho what did those Parentless children ever do to you?
- 29:08Ryan: they're not parentless.
- 29:09They have parents, maybe not pigpen, but like, they
- 29:12Jon: Do you ever see them?
- 29:14Have you ever seen Charlie Brown's mom and dad?
- 29:16No.
- 29:17Yeah.
- 29:18You hear, you hear a noise that's meant to signify them.
- 29:22You don't know that that's not delusion.
- 29:24That these aren't just poor, poor,
- 29:27Ryan: just
- 29:28Jon: poor orphan children who are imagining all they can remember of
- 29:33their chi, of their parents' voices, and all they remember is a horn sound.
- 29:39Kearns: Ryan, there should be an award for you for this week.
- 29:42You were dealing with so many shenanigans this week.
- 29:45I love it.
- 29:46The editing is gonna be amazing.
- 29:48Ryan: listen,
- 29:49Jon: Just wait.
- 29:49I have one.
- 29:50I have one form in my top five too.
- 29:52Kearns: Oh no,
- 29:53Ryan: I'm happy with my list, but Planetree and Automobiles, I'm happy
- 29:56because I watched every Thanksgiving.
- 29:59It's a tradition.
- 30:00just, if I'm gonna say this, if no one's ever seen Plane train in
- 30:04automobiles who watches our podcast, please watch it this Thanksgiving.
- 30:10Kearns: almost like,
- 30:11Jon: Yeah.
- 30:12Yeah.
- 30:13I mean,
- 30:13Kearns: if we talk about it all the time, and if you haven't watched it
- 30:16yet, kind of like Ryan did with Pan's Labyrinth, it makes you a bad person.
- 30:19You have to watch plane strings and automobiles.
- 30:23seen it?
- 30:23Jon: absolutely.
- 30:24Ryan: Labyrinth, Jada and I are watching it this weekend,
- 30:27Kearns: Yes.
- 30:29So we get to stop cutting you up about it, and in reality, I am so excited for you.
- 30:33Ryan: I'm excited
- 30:34Kearns: It.
- 30:34I'm not even worried about Overhyping it.
- 30:36Dude, there's, you can't overhype this movie.
- 30:39Jon: I don't think you can either.
- 30:40Kearns: Light low popcorn and snacks.
- 30:43Pee in a cup, don't leave the screen.
- 30:45Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 30:46Ryan: then Nightmare Alley, we're gonna try to watch this weekend as well.
- 30:50Kearns: Cool.
- 30:51Ryan: by next week I
- 30:52Kearns: One of these things is not like the other.
- 30:54Ryan: I might have a new, uh, top five or Garmo del Toro.
- 31:01Kearns: I hope so.
- 31:02I mean it.
- 31:03That's gotta be one of the I, Ryan will always surprise me,
- 31:06but I would imagine that would be everybody's number one for him.
- 31:10Ryan: which
- 31:10Kearns: If you have a Soul Pans Labyrinths,
- 31:13Ryan: what'd I say?
- 31:14Kearns: it's just a gripping movie.
- 31:16We'll talk about it.
- 31:17of Water would be my number two
- 31:20Ryan: Okay.
- 31:21Kearns: for it as far as that.
- 31:23Beautiful.
- 31:24When he makes a movie, beautiful.
- 31:25Frankenstein, if it's in that category, would be three out of those three.
- 31:29yeah,
- 31:30Ryan: I agree.
- 31:30Okay.
- 31:31Jon: Frankenstein might push Shape of water for me.
- 31:35Might
- 31:36Ryan: I need to add his movie Kronos to the list because I need to see that,
- 31:41not, sorry, we're going on a tyrant of Del Toro, but we love Del Toro,
- 31:45but I want to see
- 31:46Jon: welcome to
- 31:47Ryan: fur.
- 31:48Jon: Frankenstein, episode two.
- 31:50Kearns: That's another father.
- 31:54Yeah, exactly.
- 31:55But Cronus would be like that whole trope or that whole obsession
- 31:59he has with the dad thing.
- 32:02Jon: Yeah.
- 32:02Kearns: in that too, because as soon as you guys mention that that exists,
- 32:05I was like, I have to see that now.
- 32:07Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 32:08Ryan: Special episode on Kronos.
- 32:11Kearns: What a
- 32:12Jon: I have.
- 32:12Kearns: by the way.
- 32:13Jon: I like showing that we know a little bit besides horror.
- 32:19Kearns: We know a lot besides horror.
- 32:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 32:21Kearns: know way more outside of horror.
- 32:23You guys are the horror connoisseurs.
- 32:26I read horror.
- 32:26I don't, I didn't watch it as much.
- 32:28Like not with fidelity like you two
- 32:31Ryan: mean,
- 32:32Kearns: years.
- 32:32Ryan: Well, uh, horrors come later on, I'll be honest.
- 32:36Horror has come on later on.
- 32:37Like recent horror.
- 32:38Newer horror, like the classics.
- 32:40Yes.
- 32:40I grew up with that.
- 32:42But I was more into like action, like Hong Kong style and comedies
- 32:46from like golden age to now.
- 32:49So like doing this podcast, I've opened up more and years have
- 32:55opened up more overall backstory.
- 32:59Jon: Well, yeah, I, I, I mean,
- 33:00Kearns: person.
- 33:02Jon: as soon as I had the agency to choose my movies, I started choosing horror.
- 33:08like sixth grade, I'd go to the town pool and not swim, but I'd sit there
- 33:11and read like the Novelization of Night of Living Dead and like other
- 33:16horror novels and just no swimming, just sitting at the town pool reading.
- 33:22Ryan: cool.
- 33:23Kearns: I know it well.
- 33:24I left many a turd bobbing in that pool, John, and I have to say, I
- 33:28Jon: That's why I didn't swim in it.
- 33:30Kearns: Yeah.
- 33:31Were you at the Snack Shack?
- 33:32Were you at the snack
- 33:34Jon: Oh, yeah.
- 33:35Kearns: or were you
- 33:35Jon: No, no.
- 33:36I was, I was out by the pool.
- 33:37I, I, I sat in the sun.
- 33:39Kearns: okay,
- 33:40Jon: definitely sat in the sun, but nah.
- 33:42By sixth grade I was done swimming.
- 33:44It was all more about just I had to be outta the house because I would
- 33:48be in trouble if I was in the house.
- 33:50Kearns: so you went and brought it to Reed somewhere.
- 33:51That's
- 33:52Jon: Yeah,
- 33:53Kearns: it's an oddly romantic vision right there.
- 33:56I like it.
- 33:57Jon: it's probably where, I read my first Stephen King.
- 34:01I definitely read that night of the Living Dead novelization
- 34:04more than once at the pool.
- 34:06Ryan: See, that's
- 34:07Kearns: Cool man.
- 34:08Ryan: That's, what brings memories though.
- 34:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:11Kearns: Memories like beautiful Thanksgiving dinners.
- 34:13Back to the movie, everybody.
- 34:16Jon: Back
- 34:16Kearns: about
- 34:17Jon: movie
- 34:20Kearns: trying to stir up shit between social classes.
- 34:23Let's do that a little bit.
- 34:25Jon: Alright.
- 34:26Kearns: we're at this point, everybody, we're always under the impression
- 34:29that you've watched the film.
- 34:29If you haven't, it's your fault, not ours.
- 34:31Um,
- 34:32Jon: It's gonna get spoiled.
- 34:33Go watch it.
- 34:34Ryan: old.
- 34:35Kearns: we have, yeah, big time.
- 34:38Um, so we have, at the end, we realized it was just a big
- 34:42attempt at misdirection, right?
- 34:45Jon: Yeah.
- 34:46Kearns: but throughout the movie, they're really pitting rich versus poor the
- 34:49Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:50Ryan: And
- 34:51Jon: Yep.
- 34:51Ryan: consumerism into how like consumerism is pretty much evil.
- 34:57it causes rage, it anger, it's senseless violence.
- 35:02And you see that.
- 35:03Kearns: Bad for you.
- 35:04Ryan: yeah, and it's shown in the class, in the class sense.
- 35:08Especially like in the beginning when and her friends sneak into the
- 35:12building, even though her father owns the store, getting into it early,
- 35:17causes that like riot that occurs.
- 35:22Jon: I mean it, I wouldn't say it necessarily causes, I think it speeds
- 35:27up the riot and the pieces were all in place for that to happen.
- 35:34You had a bunch of people standing around getting angry.
- 35:38You, you didn't have enough security.
- 35:40You had the, Black Friday nonsense, and then you added in a group of
- 35:46kids being in the store early.
- 35:48Ryan: Yeah.
- 35:49That's a
- 35:50Jon: It's, it's the whole recipe is there.
- 35:54Kearns: I wonder what other films like.
- 35:58Well in the horror genre, I suppose have some similar messaging about,
- 36:02I don't know, social classes or even since Ryan brought it up, consumerism
- 36:06does anything pop, doesn't even have to be those, but is there anything with a
- 36:09glaring message that you can think of?
- 36:11Jon: Oh.
- 36:11I mean,
- 36:13Kearns: What's that?
- 36:15What's the message there?
- 36:19Is it consumerism?
- 36:20Cool?
- 36:20Oh yeah, I guess
- 36:22Jon: mm-hmm.
- 36:22Kearns: Buy your kid a toy.
- 36:23Let it kill him.
- 36:24Jon: Yeah.
- 36:25Ryan: the fear of like, like consumerism is killing the kids type of deal.
- 36:30Like, 'cause Andy wanted a good guy doll and she finds it in the back alley.
- 36:37Jon: Well, I mean,
- 36:38Kearns: that was back in the era too.
- 36:39People don't remember that.
- 36:41Jon: yeah.
- 36:41Kearns: was stuff like that going on like crazy where people would go,
- 36:45Jon: Yeah.
- 36:46Kearns: Elmo is basically what the real life version of that.
- 36:49Ryan: it's
- 36:50Jon: Well, you, it's probably even before that because the real life version
- 36:54before that was Cabbage Patch Kids.
- 36:58I had an uncle who worked in a toy store in Florida during the
- 37:02initial Cabbage Patch craze, who is essentially doing that.
- 37:06Like, he was like, ba backdoor deals and stuff.
- 37:11Ryan: You want this
- 37:12Jon: Is that like they would, you couldn't, they weren't in,
- 37:17Kearns: 20 in my.
- 37:18Jon: yeah, they, they'd go like they'd get there and they'd be gone in minutes.
- 37:24It was the, they were the hottest thing in the world.
- 37:28Ryan: I remember the
- 37:29Jon: Um
- 37:29Ryan: Sport toys, the baseball, football, hockey
- 37:34Jon: Yep,
- 37:34Ryan: would go
- 37:35Jon: yep,
- 37:35Ryan: the chase variants and they used to hide 'em.
- 37:38And the toys were us like top stack.
- 37:40And my uncle, he
- 37:41Jon: yep.
- 37:42Ryan: them he would pop one open.
- 37:44He'd find a chase, he'd be like those.
- 37:46Ah.
- 37:46And then he'd take it and then he'd buy it himself.
- 37:48It was like hilarious.
- 37:50Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 37:51Mm-hmm.
- 37:51So,
- 37:52Ryan: It's like crazy.
- 37:54Jon: mm-hmm.
- 37:55But to consumerism, I mean, the, the one that immediately comes
- 37:59to my brain is dawn of the dead.
- 38:01Ryan: Yeah.
- 38:02Jon: Dawn of the dead is a whole like, I mean, and everything, Romero's,
- 38:07class warfare comes in, in land of the dead because you have the rich
- 38:11people who can afford to live in the fancy tower, and the poor people are
- 38:15just in like a slum right inside the fence that's keeping the zombies out.
- 38:20You know, that's,
- 38:21Kearns: Which,
- 38:22Jon: he did, that with everything.
- 38:23Every, every one of those zombie movies has some commentary on
- 38:28American life, whether it's race and night consumerism and Dawn, um,
- 38:32militarism and Day Land of the Dead in the class warfare, um, survival
- 38:40of the Dead kind of has some of that.
- 38:41And, um, diary of the Dead is an indictment on the reality TV culture.
- 38:47Kearns: Hmm.
- 38:48Ryan: Yeah,
- 38:49Kearns: That's, that's say pretty neat actually, how it evolved, but it
- 38:53Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:53Kearns: things in society.
- 38:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:56Kearns: You guys overperformed on that one?
- 38:58Let me tell you, I.
- 38:59Ryan: quick, Romero was a genius and that was his way to show
- 39:03what the issues were in America.
- 39:06Or the world in
- 39:08Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:08Ryan: mostly America, but the world can resonate with it.
- 39:12Um, he was just a genius
- 39:16Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:16Ryan: I, I get it.
- 39:17Jon: Yeah, I mean.
- 39:20He, so much of the other really incredible stuff he did gets lost
- 39:25because of those three zombie movies, the first three zombie movies, but
- 39:30so many other things he did are just
- 39:34really, really incredible.
- 39:37The crazies, Martin,
- 39:42Kearns: I
- 39:43Jon: Martin
- 39:43Kearns: too.
- 39:44Jon: Martin has to go on the list for next year just because of, it's
- 39:47such a different vampire movie than anything you've probably ever seen.
- 39:53Kearns: I've seen Martin
- 39:54Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:55Kearns: for reasons.
- 39:57Jon: Oh yeah.
- 39:57For reasons.
- 39:59Oh, you will.
- 40:00I, it's definitely going on the list.
- 40:02Kearns: there's also a Zach Brown Band, uh, song named Martin,
- 40:07so you got that going for you out there, Martins.
- 40:10All right.
- 40:12Let's see.
- 40:12What else do you guys wanna bring up about this film?
- 40:14Ryan: Well,
- 40:16Jon: I,
- 40:16Ryan: there, do you have any reviews ready?
- 40:18Because I know you got a five star ready somewhere
- 40:22Jon: of course, I have a five star,
- 40:24Kearns: reviews and then I got a question about physics.
- 40:26Jon: five stars.
- 40:30Thanksgiving is a gruesome, graphic, bloody, gory movie with so many blood
- 40:35and gore just literally makes you want to throw up and you don't know how
- 40:39much gore is going to be in the movie till you see like all of the kills,
- 40:44and you are trying to find out who is the killer until later on in the movie.
- 40:48By the way, I'm not reading it this fast for any reason except that
- 40:51there is no punctuation until later on in the movie you find out who
- 40:57the killer is and you're like, what?
- 40:59And you find out what co caused the person to become the killer in the first place.
- 41:04Five stars.
- 41:05Kearns: Okay, well the best part is that the audio lagged and then it went even
- 41:09faster than when you were reading it initially anyway, so when triple speed.
- 41:14I was like, I hope that, uh, that resolves as these three audio streams
- 41:18come together after recording.
- 41:20We'll find out kids.
- 41:22Jon: Yeah.
- 41:23I mean, it would've actually kind of work if it didn't too.
- 41:26All right.
- 41:27I have three really short, three really short one stars.
- 41:32One, it had so much potential, but drop the ball.
- 41:37Whole review.
- 41:39Next review.
- 41:41Scream the one star.
- 41:44Kearns: where people would say that.
- 41:46Jon: Yeah, I mean, I like, I, I would imagine if you are
- 41:49somebody who holds up those,
- 41:50Kearns: but I could see where they would go that way.
- 41:52Jon: those grindhouse trailers as like the gospel, like this is
- 41:56what this movie was supposed to be, you're gonna be disappointed.
- 42:00'cause he didn't make a Grindhouse movie.
- 42:02Ryan: He, he,
- 42:03Kearns: Right.
- 42:04Ryan: seventies, eighties, homage, but it had that modern
- 42:08vibe so it could be mainstream.
- 42:11And it works.
- 42:12Jon: Yeah.
- 42:13Ryan: It,
- 42:13Jon: Yeah.
- 42:14Ryan: all audiences together, in my opinion, you know?
- 42:18Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 42:19next one, scream holiday version.
- 42:21Sigh TikTok.
- 42:24Brains probably love it.
- 42:25Kearns: it.
- 42:26Jon: Original R dead rip, which I don't, I don't know what that means.
- 42:32Original R Dead rip.
- 42:37And then the last one star I have, and then I have a half star for you.
- 42:41I kind of feel like this is,
- 42:42Kearns: dead.
- 42:43Rest in peace.
- 42:44Originals, I'm guessing.
- 42:46Jon: uh, yeah, probably original R dead.
- 42:49And it's hard without punctuation.
- 42:52People don't like to use punctuation very much.
- 42:54It confuses.
- 42:56Kearns: you got to do is get in the mind of the illiterates.
- 42:59You gotta get in the heads, you gotta get some Cheez-Its in your brain a little bit.
- 43:04Jon: Yeah.
- 43:04Ryan: Taki
- 43:05Jon: Yeah.
- 43:06Ryan: Taki,
- 43:09Kearns: the new Cheez-Its spicy Cheez-Its,
- 43:17Jon: Our last one star.
- 43:18I kind of feel like this has been done before and the
- 43:22twist isn't very surprising.
- 43:24A lot of nastiness.
- 43:30Ryan: I
- 43:30Jon: a slasher.
- 43:31What do you expect?
- 43:32Ryan: when Yeah.
- 43:35Kearns: it's not a happy movie.
- 43:37Ryan: Oh, it can,
- 43:38Jon: No.
- 43:38Ryan: at the end, most of the time,
- 43:43Friday 13th,
- 43:44Jon: I don't think, yeah, I don't think we get to Happy end in Thanksgiving either.
- 43:48You get to the My Bloody Valentine end.
- 43:52Ryan: which
- 43:54Kearns: Which is so dumb, by the way.
- 43:55They shouldn't have done that.
- 43:57The nightmare.
- 43:58Ryan: about doing a sequel.
- 43:59It's in pre-production, I've been thinking about it all day, is can you do a sequel?
- 44:05Like, can you do like.
- 44:08I, I don't wanna spoil anything 'cause we gotta get to the end of it.
- 44:10But there's two avenues I'm thinking you can go with it one is better
- 44:17because it's original while the other is
- 44:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 44:20Ryan: copy of something we've seen already.
- 44:22But I wanna hear what you had to say.
- 44:24Jon: Well, I mean, not even to the end with the nightmare necessarily,
- 44:28but just the end after the explosion and there, you know, they.
- 44:33They come out and there's no trace of a body, and then a guy in full
- 44:37fireman's gear with the mask comes out and he's the right height.
- 44:42And you, you're like, all right there.
- 44:44Like, that's, the My bloody Valentine ending.
- 44:46That's the, he clearly lived, but we're not gonna show you that it was him.
- 44:52Yeah.
- 44:54Yeah.
- 44:55So it's a Yeah.
- 44:56Kearns: incinerated.
- 44:57Nothing but ashes.
- 44:58Jon: Yeah.
- 44:59Ryan: we
- 44:59Jon: Except for the guy.
- 45:00Except for the guy that just walked behind you.
- 45:02Wait, wait, wait.
- 45:03That's him.
- 45:06But yeah.
- 45:07Kearns: All right
- 45:08Jon: and then our half star, two hours of my life that I won't get back.
- 45:16Some funny parts in the sense that it's so cheesy, it's funny.
- 45:20One of the least scary slasher movies I've ever seen.
- 45:24The plot was not a surprise.
- 45:26And the, yeah, and the special effects for the gore sucked,
- 45:32which I didn't think they sucked.
- 45:33I think they were fine.
- 45:34Kearns: pretty good.
- 45:35Special effects were pretty good.
- 45:37They used like rolled sausage for the intestines, which is pretty funny.
- 45:41Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 45:42Kearns: uh, the special effects were pretty good.
- 45:44I mean,
- 45:44Jon: Yeah.
- 45:44And
- 45:45Kearns: freezer scene where you dunks her in the water.
- 45:48Jon: mm-hmm.
- 45:49I love that scene.
- 45:50Like that's,
- 45:52Kearns: That was
- 45:52Jon: that's one of my favorite
- 45:54Kearns: the way.
- 45:55She's like, can't use her phone 'cause she's got blood all over her hands.
- 45:58And then
- 45:59Jon: uhhuh.
- 45:59Kearns: out and she's like, I just get my purse and head on home.
- 46:03Faces on the door.
- 46:04Ryan: so good with the dumpster scene when it's just crunch, it's just
- 46:09Jon: Yeah.
- 46:10Kearns: of the whole movie, to be honest with you.
- 46:12Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:12Kearns: with a bang with that one,
- 46:14Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:15Kearns: 'cause she's so unlikable too.
- 46:16And the fact
- 46:17Jon: Yeah.
- 46:17Kearns: they have Boston accents.
- 46:19I just love watching 'em die.
- 46:21I love it.
- 46:22so funny they yell at, they're so angry through the whole movie
- 46:26Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:27Kearns: Oh, it's
- 46:28Jon: Yeah.
- 46:28I have a question for you guys.
- 46:30Who do you think is most at fault for that riot?
- 46:35Who do you blame the most?
- 46:38Kearns: the father, the owner of the franchise,
- 46:41Ryan: NN no,
- 46:44Jon: Who?
- 46:45Ryan: gonna blame Jessica because she shouldn't have
- 46:47brought her friends in so early.
- 46:50Because here's the thing, know how your friends are gonna be.
- 46:54They're like, okay, we're gonna be good.
- 46:56It bull Bull.
- 46:57You're not gonna be good.
- 46:59You're still gonna be twits.
- 47:00We've all had that moment, guess what?
- 47:03They were twits and they ignited it further.
- 47:06So yeah, she's a secondary antagonist.
- 47:10She was a protagonist and an antagonist at the same time.
- 47:15She could have avoided it.
- 47:16Jon: Interesting.
- 47:18Interesting.
- 47:19But it's the dad.
- 47:20It's definitely her dad for the greed.
- 47:28He, he's greedy.
- 47:29Kearns: I mean,
- 47:30Jon: has
- 47:30Kearns: the most comfortable.
- 47:33Jon: uhhuh.
- 47:33It's, it's not even Black Friday.
- 47:35It's Thanksgiving night.
- 47:38It's not, it hasn't, it's not even midnight, it's Thanksgiving night.
- 47:42It's the first time he's ever done it.
- 47:44He got talked into doing it by his new trophy wife, and then he didn't staff it.
- 47:51He didn't, two security guards.
- 47:55Ryan: He didn't think it was
- 47:56Jon: You can't have just have then he's a fool.
- 48:00Kearns: people work Thanksgiving
- 48:01Jon: He's a
- 48:02Kearns: and,
- 48:02Jon: Yeah.
- 48:03That,
- 48:04in general, that in general is, is scummy, you know, opening thing, like, listen, I,
- 48:15Kearns: it's time with your family.
- 48:16Literally the most important time.
- 48:19Jon: that said, when I worked in retail, I signed up to work
- 48:22Thanksgiving Day every time,
- 48:26because I'd be out by like two or three.
- 48:27Kearns: stuck at Thanksgiving.
- 48:28Jon: I'd be out by like two or three, I'd be home in time for dinner.
- 48:31I'd make double time.
- 48:32Like, how do you turn that down?
- 48:34Kearns: easy if you're not like a mom or dad being forced to do it.
- 48:37And then, um, but I'm, we're talking about like being out for the meat and
- 48:40Jon: Oh, yeah, our poor guy Mitch, who gets called out from his
- 48:44Thanksgiving dinner to go and work.
- 48:47Kearns: Exactly.
- 48:48And then he ends up, uh, we find out that his wife was cheating on him later in the
- 48:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 48:52Kearns: and
- 48:53Jon: Yeah.
- 48:53Kearns: with the, with the sheriff's baby, which is
- 48:55Jon: Yeah.
- 48:56Kearns: they just shoehorned that in.
- 48:57But it's
- 48:58Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 48:58Kearns: movie, so it's like, okay.
- 48:59Jon: But it, it, it, it also takes away any sympathy I have for the sheriff.
- 49:07Ryan: Yeah.
- 49:08Kearns: I mean, he's a
- 49:09Jon: Um, number one.
- 49:10Kearns: it 'cause he hated rich people.
- 49:12That was
- 49:12Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 49:12Mm-hmm.
- 49:15Number one, he shouldn't have brought her there anyway.
- 49:19He, what are you doing?
- 49:21Why, why are you bringing the woman that you're sleeping with to see
- 49:25her husband while he is at work?
- 49:27What are you trying to accomplish there?
- 49:29Give him some pie.
- 49:30That's not, that's not good.
- 49:33Uh, she wasn't gonna do it then.
- 49:36Yeah, she wasn't gonna do it then.
- 49:38Like, I mean, I mean, they revealed that she,
- 49:40Ryan: by the way.
- 49:41Jon: they revealed that she was gonna dump him, but not then.
- 49:46And you know, as somebody who's been in that situation, they don't
- 49:49always dump the, the husband.
- 49:54Ryan: Yeah.
- 49:55Kearns: see.
- 49:56I see.
- 49:57Jon: And they don't, they don't always dump husbands.
- 49:59They just sorta say they will.
- 50:03Ryan: Yeah.
- 50:03Push along.
- 50:04Kearns: That happens to a lot of people in a lot of scenarios.
- 50:07And it goes the other way a lot too.
- 50:08I've noticed.
- 50:09Um,
- 50:10Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 50:11Kearns: physics, gentlemen, physics, my favorite part of this movie, I say
- 50:17that a lot, but one of my favorite parts of this movie was when he wraps the
- 50:21cord, the cable of the pickup truck.
- 50:23Of the tow truck, I should say, around the beam.
- 50:27And he's driving pretty much full tilt in third gear by that point, right?
- 50:32Second or third gear.
- 50:33So he's at least doing 40, 45.
- 50:35And then the truck just is shown, stopped as opposed to showing anything
- 50:39happening to her in the back of it.
- 50:41She would've been dead.
- 50:42Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 50:43Kearns: Her brains would've been all over the place.
- 50:46Jon: Yes.
- 50:46Kearns: So that was one example of physics.
- 50:48Is there another example of like, physics don't work in this
- 50:50movie that you can think of?
- 50:51I can think of one more, I think, but.
- 50:53Ryan: Um,
- 50:56I mean, the hand breaking in like 500 places,
- 51:01Kearns: A good one.
- 51:02Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:02Kearns: good one.
- 51:03Ryan: that.
- 51:03No.
- 51:05Kearns: Did you notice the way they do the crowds and the camera work
- 51:08when the windows are breaking, but nobody's standing near the windows.
- 51:12They're all four feet back, so you can see them in the frame.
- 51:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:15Kearns: that when you watch it
- 51:16Jon: Yep.
- 51:17Kearns: or if
- 51:17Jon: Yep.
- 51:17Kearns: it again, it's really funny.
- 51:19Ryan: felt
- 51:20Kearns: Yeah.
- 51:20Ryan: first watch they were very close.
- 51:22And then watching again, it's like,
- 51:24Kearns: she's pinned up, the first victim is pinned up against it,
- 51:27and then in the next scene there's four feet of space around her and
- 51:30she's cursing everybody out again.
- 51:32It's
- 51:32Jon: Yeah, yeah,
- 51:33Kearns: but the physics part with that was really funny.
- 51:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:37Then that's a good.
- 51:38Ryan: it's a fun
- 51:39Kearns: We
- 51:39Jon: Good observation.
- 51:41Mm-hmm.
- 51:44It is, it is.
- 51:46Oh, I have, I have three more, three more very unserious questions.
- 51:51Ryan, what do you got?
- 51:54Ryan: Oof.
- 51:54Kearns: Through them.
- 51:55Ryan: going to, the whole thing is, do you think Patrick
- 51:59Dete was a good villain after?
- 52:03Like I, I feel like he plays
- 52:06Kearns: also didn't need to be for this movie to work, but no.
- 52:10Jon: I,
- 52:11Kearns: Yeah.
- 52:12Jon: he's an adequate villain.
- 52:13He's not a sympathetic revenge slasher
- 52:19Ryan: Okay,
- 52:21Jon: and I, I don't feel sympathy for him.
- 52:23He, put Amanda in a bad situation.
- 52:27He put her in danger.
- 52:29Uh, not completely unknowingly.
- 52:32he got into that store, he saw the chaos that was outside, and I mean, you're
- 52:37a trained law enforcement officer.
- 52:39You should be able to recognize that that situation could go really south.
- 52:46So he's not,
- 52:46Ryan: Fair.
- 52:47Jon: not a, he's not sympathetic.
- 52:50Like he's not Pamela Vorhees.
- 52:54Ryan: Okay.
- 52:55Jon: McCarty makes a point of saying that Ronnie James Dio
- 52:59brought magic to Black Sabbath.
- 53:02Did he?
- 53:03Mm-hmm.
- 53:06Ryan: Yeah.
- 53:07Kearns: was already in Black Sabbath.
- 53:08He brought a different kind of magic.
- 53:10He brought like far Eastern magic compared to Western Magic.
- 53:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 53:14Kearns: would be like the way I would, it's medieval
- 53:16Europe versus medieval Japan.
- 53:19They, they're both metal as but they're different things.
- 53:23I, you can't,
- 53:24Jon: I like that.
- 53:25Kearns: dio to Fri Ozzy man.
- 53:28Jon: No,
- 53:28Kearns: can't dis you can't discount Ronnie James.
- 53:30Dio being awesome.
- 53:32Jon: no.
- 53:33Ryan: you compare, I had two albums.
- 53:35Mob Rules, heaven and Hell.
- 53:38Dio
- 53:39Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 53:40Ryan: a different version of Black Sabbath.
- 53:43It's more, wanna say a little more faster paced while Ozzie like,
- 53:48especially like early, like you listen to
- 53:51Kearns: Yeah.
- 53:52Ryan: the Wizard of course, black Sabbath, uh, wasp,
- 53:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 53:56Ryan: Jack the stripper fairy wears Boots.
- 53:58You hear that Blues.
- 54:00It's got that
- 54:01Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 54:02Mm-hmm.
- 54:03Ryan: early heavy metal.
- 54:04I, it's two different things.
- 54:08Jon: Yeah.
- 54:09Yeah.
- 54:09I, I act, I actually kind of like, I kind of like Ronnie
- 54:14James dio, black Sabbath as.
- 54:17What they toured as later on as Heaven and hell, like that to me, is a better
- 54:23name for Ronnie James DO Black Sabbath.
- 54:27Ryan: Yeah, I can agree that Rainbow 2.02
- 54:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 54:31Mm-hmm.
- 54:34Wait, like you forget, you forget how deep the, the Ronnie James catalog is anyway.
- 54:38'cause you go back to Elf with him
- 54:41Ryan: Yep.
- 54:42Jon: and even before that when he was doing like fifties,
- 54:45like almost doop stuff.
- 54:48Ryan: Yeah, he's, he was around for a long, long time.
- 54:51Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 54:52Ryan: he did something with Queen Trike as well for Operation Mind Crime part two.
- 54:57He like cosing I, the first album's great.
- 55:00The second one, Dio definitely saved it, but
- 55:04Jon: Yeah.
- 55:04I mean,
- 55:05know,
- 55:05Ryan: time.
- 55:06Jon: listen, listen thi this goes back to movies too.
- 55:10When you do something as special as Operation Mind
- 55:14crime, you don't do a second.
- 55:16Ryan: No.
- 55:17And um, that has not been made into a film.
- 55:20Shockingly.
- 55:22I haven't seen a film made for it yet, and
- 55:25Jon: No.
- 55:25No, there hasn't been.
- 55:26I don't think there will be either.
- 55:28I don't think there would be enough demand to make it in a movie at this point.
- 55:3225 years ago maybe.
- 55:33Ryan: it's so good.
- 55:34so we talked about the ending.
- 55:36How can they make a Thanksgiving too?
- 55:38I mentioned it earlier now.
- 55:40There was two ways I think they can do this, and I want to see
- 55:43your guys' opinions on this.
- 55:45Maybe hear the fans' opinions, how they can do Thanksgiving too.
- 55:49common way was, you know, Patrick Dempsey comes back, he's all burnt up.
- 55:53It's like Halloween two basically after Halloween two, so Halloween
- 55:56four and he's on a murderers rampage.
- 55:59way I was thinking is, what if Jessica goes insane and it's
- 56:04like a split personality thing.
- 56:08It's, it's,
- 56:09Kearns: I mean, they could go any way they want 'cause it's such an unserious movie.
- 56:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 56:13Kearns: Um, John was about to say something.
- 56:15I wanna hear what John was gonna say
- 56:17Jon: I mean, I, I think they completely set up where a, a sequel
- 56:21is gonna go by having the figure in the firefighter outfit leave.
- 56:29As they're saying, there's no identifiable remains.
- 56:32You know, they're sort, they're setting it up to either be the sheriff continued
- 56:37or somebody, you know, sort of like scream, where it's somebody trying to
- 56:41finish his work or a copy, you know?
- 56:46Kearns: That's where I would go with it, that it's somebody
- 56:48else who was pissed off at the
- 56:50Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 56:50Kearns: but then there's not many people to kill 'cause it's just
- 56:53the people directly involved.
- 56:54So they'd have to have another event and
- 56:56Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 56:56Mm-hmm.
- 56:58Kearns: whole plot.
- 56:59Then it's really contrived and I just don't think they should do it.
- 57:02Jon: Well, you,
- 57:03Ryan: that out there.
- 57:04Jon: you kept,
- 57:04Kearns: trust Orion.
- 57:07Jon: you kept a lot of people alive at the end too.
- 57:10Like you have the dads alive,
- 57:15the black guys alive, Jess is alive.
- 57:17Both her love interests are still alive,
- 57:21Ryan: Yep.
- 57:22Jon: you know, there, there's definitely some of some people to come back for.
- 57:26Yeah.
- 57:27Ryan: he got like six
- 57:28Jon: Definitely some people to come back for.
- 57:30Yeah.
- 57:33So I'll, I'll, I'll wrap up with it with a very, a very
- 57:36serious and significant question.
- 57:38I think most of us know what temperature to cook a Turkey to,
- 57:44what temperature do you cook a human being to, like, what's the ideal
- 57:49internal temperature for a human?
- 57:53Kearns: that's a rich white lady, so there's not a lot of meat on those bones.
- 57:56She's
- 57:56Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 57:57Kearns: of vodka.
- 57:57She's not gonna be having a lot of calories, a lot of
- 57:59leafy greens in that person.
- 58:01So you really gotta make sure you don't dry it out.
- 58:03The meat, I've been thinking about this a lot, actually.
- 58:05I'm really glad he brought it up.
- 58:09Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 58:10Kearns: he basted her with
- 58:11Jon: He, yeah, he based it her really well, I mean
- 58:14Kearns: the
- 58:14Jon: mm-hmm.
- 58:16Mm-hmm.
- 58:16Ryan: I
- 58:17Jon: But then she did a lot of running around and probably
- 58:19burned off some of the fat.
- 58:21So like, she might be a little gamey.
- 58:24What do you cook her to?
- 58:26Like is she, is she like a, a 1 65?
- 58:29Kearns: gonna melt.
- 58:30Jon: Yeah.
- 58:30Is she, is she 165 degrees internal?
- 58:35You have to go a little higher than that.
- 58:37Yeah.
- 58:391 65 seems about right.
- 58:41Kearns: and those rich whites.
- 58:42Ryan: an
- 58:42Jon: Yeah.
- 58:43Yeah.
- 58:43Ryan: so, and that thing was juicy.
- 58:46Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 58:47Kearns: It took a while to die.
- 58:48I was like, she's done.
- 58:49She's done in 30 seconds.
- 58:50She's probably gonna pass out
- 58:52Ryan: burns
- 58:53Kearns: from the game.
- 58:54Ryan: oh man.
- 58:56Jon: But I mean, it, it,
- 58:58Kearns: of the more brutal deaths in the world.
- 59:00Jon: she looked like she was pretty tender.
- 59:04Ryan: Uh.
- 59:05After he sliced her
- 59:06Jon: I think he, yeah, I think he, I think he cooked her
- 59:10pretty, pretty near perfection.
- 59:13Ryan: I
- 59:14Jon: I, you know, I'm just curious how you do that.
- 59:16Mm-hmm.
- 59:17Kearns: force her husband to eat her, right?
- 59:19Jon: Yep.
- 59:20Ryan: covered in puke and, uh,
- 59:23Kearns: Yeah.
- 59:24been
- 59:25Jon: That That was the grossest part.
- 59:27Kearns: the movie that is Yeah, the puking,
- 59:31Jon: Yeah, that was the grossest part.
- 59:34Kearns: puking through a gag is tough.
- 59:36Jon: Yeah.
- 59:37Kearns: That's tough stuff to watch.
- 59:38But um, yeah, no, I'm with you.
- 59:41That's a good question.
- 59:43That's a good question.
- 59:44How do, how do, how well, do you
- 59:47Ryan: compared,
- 59:48Kearns: the internal temperature of a white woman?
- 59:49Ryan: to how the trailer depicts that scene.
- 59:53It definitely goes a better way in this one.
- 59:55I like I, it's a different take in the trailer, but this one works out better.
- 1:00:00I feel.
- 1:00:01For the way they went mainstream wise.
- 1:00:03Yeah.
- 1:00:03When, when you get a chance, watch the trailer and see what happens at that
- 1:00:07last supper, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:00:11Kearns: Interesting.
- 1:00:11And that's a
- 1:00:12Jon: Watch the whole movie.
- 1:00:13Watch the whole movie.
- 1:00:15Kearns: and get moving to our top five.
- 1:00:18Jon: Amen.
- 1:00:20Kearns: All right guys.
- 1:00:20Top five Time Thanksgiving's.
- 1:00:22Good.
- 1:00:22Hang top five time.
- 1:00:25Jon: a good,
- 1:00:25Ryan: five.
- 1:00:27Oh God.
- 1:00:27Yeah, it's Watch it.
- 1:00:30Great modern slasher.
- 1:00:31But what am I thankful for?
- 1:00:33I'm thankful for twist endings.
- 1:00:36And what
- 1:00:37Kearns: Hmm.
- 1:00:38Ryan: we're gonna start off with one of my,
- 1:00:40Jon: what a twist
- 1:00:41Ryan: top five favorite twist endings.
- 1:00:43A twist.
- 1:00:44Um, we're gonna start off with the first one.
- 1:00:46April Fool's Day 1986.
- 1:00:49mentioned it before.
- 1:00:51plot follows a group of college students vacationing during April Fool's Day
- 1:00:54weekend on an island estate, which is infiltrated by an unknown assailant.
- 1:00:58did watch this this year, correct.
- 1:01:00We've watched
- 1:01:01Jon: we did.
- 1:01:01Yep.
- 1:01:02Yep.
- 1:01:02Ryan: we did.
- 1:01:03Jon: This was, this was an early one.
- 1:01:07Ryan: Blast from the past.
- 1:01:08Check out the episodes.
- 1:01:10It's good.
- 1:01:11I'll say it's good.
- 1:01:12Kearns: It'll be in
- 1:01:12Jon: Yeah.
- 1:01:13Kearns: It'll be in the end cards.
- 1:01:14Ryan: it's just the twist at the end where everyone's dying off and
- 1:01:17they kind of find out it was a joke.
- 1:01:20It's, it's fine.
- 1:01:21It's a fun film.
- 1:01:22It's unexpected, especially for a first watch.
- 1:01:25Um, though if you are watching this spoilers, sorry, I should have said this,
- 1:01:29this list is gonna have spoilers, so if you haven't seen these films, please stop
- 1:01:34Jon: kind of goes, kind of goes without saying.
- 1:01:36If you, if you're, if the title of your list is twists, you kind of
- 1:01:40gotta figure and expect that there's gonna be some twists in these.
- 1:01:45Ryan: true.
- 1:01:46I, I just, I, you know, just wanna make the viewers aware and it's goes
- 1:01:50for this next movie, US Jordan Peele.
- 1:01:54Kearns: Hmm.
- 1:01:56Good choice.
- 1:01:56Ryan: I saw it in theaters.
- 1:01:57And when you're watching it, you're kinda like, huh.
- 1:02:00But, um, the whole plot is a family's on vacation and they meet their
- 1:02:04doppelgangers, but the twist is the wife.
- 1:02:09The wife is the doppelganger that switched with the original.
- 1:02:13And there's ups and downs and it, there's a lot of curves.
- 1:02:18It's a, it's an experience.
- 1:02:19I think I, I did like it a little better than get out, in my opinion.
- 1:02:23I haven't seen the third film.
- 1:02:25I, um, the third film he
- 1:02:29Jon: Nope.
- 1:02:29Ryan: what it's called.
- 1:02:30Kearns: With the
- 1:02:31Jon: Nope, nope,
- 1:02:33Kearns: Nope, actually very
- 1:02:34Jon: nope.
- 1:02:35I like a,
- 1:02:36Kearns: of all those
- 1:02:36Jon: I do too.
- 1:02:38I.
- 1:02:39Ryan: I've seen clips where the spaceship goes over Steve and
- 1:02:43then they suck up the whole crowd.
- 1:02:44I've seen that, and that's brutal.
- 1:02:48okay, I haven't seen the full thing.
- 1:02:50But I have seen this film.
- 1:02:52It's one of my favorites and the twist is great.
- 1:02:55And is time on your side?
- 1:02:57I don't think for Denzel Washington and Fallen, though.
- 1:03:00I lo
- 1:03:01Kearns: Nice choice.
- 1:03:03Ryan: came in a two pack with training day, ironically.
- 1:03:06Um
- 1:03:07Kearns: great.
- 1:03:08Ryan: great.
- 1:03:08Tupac, but Denzel Washington play Washington plays a Philadelphia police
- 1:03:13detective who is investigating murders committed by an apparent copycat
- 1:03:17killer who turns it to be Zael, who can transfer himself by mere touch.
- 1:03:23And he's obsessed with the song.
- 1:03:25Time is on by Side, by the Rolling Stones.
- 1:03:32Jon: I like it.
- 1:03:33Ryan: Alright.
- 1:03:34I was like, I was ready.
- 1:03:35Jon: I like it.
- 1:03:36Ryan: like silent.
- 1:03:37Jon: No,
- 1:03:38Ryan: gonna
- 1:03:38Jon: nope.
- 1:03:39Ryan: gonna like this one.
- 1:03:40The Wicker Man.
- 1:03:41The original.
- 1:03:43The
- 1:03:43Jon: The
- 1:03:44Yeah.
- 1:03:45Ryan: Yeah.
- 1:03:46Jon: Okay.
- 1:03:46Yeah,
- 1:03:47Ryan: I mean, officer, you know, visits a isolated Scottish island of summer
- 1:03:52style in search of a missing girl.
- 1:03:54And as the film progresses, you learn that the girl is a part of
- 1:04:00this cult, and he is a sacrifice.
- 1:04:02It's a great twist ending, great psychological thriller.
- 1:04:06Um, great British cinema.
- 1:04:09And there's not a lot to say, but this one you guys are, I'm curious
- 1:04:15to see what you guys think, but my number one goes to Shutter Island.
- 1:04:20It's a,
- 1:04:21Kearns: safe bet.
- 1:04:23Jon: yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:23Ryan: I was, I was like,
- 1:04:24Kearns: One of the best re watches.
- 1:04:26Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:26Ryan: it once, and made a lasting impression to like, remember the
- 1:04:33entire film and just the, the ending still gets me where it's just like.
- 1:04:39Man, like you're just stuck in this world.
- 1:04:42And it's like you're trying to break free.
- 1:04:44And he is.
- 1:04:45And he's just, it's a repeat over repeat, over repeat.
- 1:04:48And it's just, it's rough, Great
- 1:04:52Jon: Yeah.
- 1:04:53Yep.
- 1:04:54Kearns: film.
- 1:04:54I love the scene when Buffalo Bill, uh, says that question is, can
- 1:04:59your violence conquer my violence?
- 1:05:01It's one of the best lines.
- 1:05:03Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:04Kearns: I've
- 1:05:04Jon: I love that.
- 1:05:05Kearns: actually
- 1:05:06Jon: Yep.
- 1:05:07Yep.
- 1:05:07Ryan: Scorsese too,
- 1:05:12Jon: Yeah.
- 1:05:12Ryan: so
- 1:05:13Jon: Yeah.
- 1:05:13That's a good movie.
- 1:05:15Kearns: on top
- 1:05:16Jon: All right,
- 1:05:17so my top five is kind of predictable.
- 1:05:21It's also.
- 1:05:23Surprising that there's not a lot more movies that could
- 1:05:27qualify the uh, for this.
- 1:05:28There's some I left off 'cause I haven't seen them, but I went
- 1:05:31top five Thanksgiving movies, Thanksgiving horror movies.
- 1:05:36We already did a whole, we did all the, the keeper cut ones.
- 1:05:39So these are just gonna be, well, not even just, but mostly
- 1:05:43horror and horror adjacent.
- 1:05:45So at number five, we get the previously threatened.
- 1:05:50Thanks killing.
- 1:05:53Ryan: Hm,
- 1:05:55Jon: So in Thanksgiving.
- 1:05:57Thanks.
- 1:05:57Killing a killer Turkey wipes out a bunch of college students
- 1:06:03over Thanksgiving break.
- 1:06:05Those left have to break a curse to defeat Turkey.
- 1:06:09Thanks.
- 1:06:10Killing stars, Wanda Lust, who's probably best known for her roles in milf.
- 1:06:17Does a body good and MILF shakes.
- 1:06:27Kearns: B movies or porns people you decide?
- 1:06:31Ryan: there's so
- 1:06:32Jon: Oh, that would be a good,
- 1:06:35that would be a good game
- 1:06:37Kearns: Yep.
- 1:06:39Jon: B horror movie
- 1:06:40Kearns: Well, it's gonna be really revealing depending
- 1:06:42on how good we are at it.
- 1:06:45Adrie ray, porn star, or singer.
- 1:06:48All right.
- 1:06:51Jon: my number four, I feel like I've put put out before, it's called the Boneyard.
- 1:06:57Um, it stars Ed Nelson Norman Fell.
- 1:07:00Phyllis Diller, um, zombie kids run wild in a morgue with only a psychic,
- 1:07:05a cop, and two corners to stop them, and a giant murderous poodle.
- 1:07:11Ryan: that's
- 1:07:12Kearns: Ic, giant murderous poodle,
- 1:07:15Ryan: a
- 1:07:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:17Kearns: yeah,
- 1:07:17Jon: it's, it definitely sounds like a bar joke.
- 1:07:21Yep, yep.
- 1:07:23My number, my number three for a long time was the only Thanksgiving
- 1:07:27movie I knew of, and it's a movie from the eighties called Blood Rage.
- 1:07:33Um, and Blood Rage is after murdering a man, a boy blames his twin brother
- 1:07:38who winds up institutionalized while the real killer goes on with his life.
- 1:07:43After 10 years, the twin escapes and the killing starts all over again.
- 1:07:49But who is the killer now?
- 1:07:53Ryan: Okay.
- 1:07:54Kearns: To get it now, kids
- 1:07:56Jon: It's,
- 1:07:57not bad.
- 1:07:57It's blood rage.
- 1:08:00My nu my number two.
- 1:08:01We're going to sort of get back to a, a movie similar to Thanksgiving.
- 1:08:06It's called Black Friday.
- 1:08:09Um, and the first thing you have, the, the first thing you have to talk about with
- 1:08:14Black Friday is how cool this cast is.
- 1:08:17You get Seth Green in there, you get Michael J.
- 1:08:19White, uh, Bruce Campbell, Devin swa, and, um, Ivana Quero, who Ryan will not know
- 1:08:30because he hasn't seen Pan's Labyrinth.
- 1:08:34But,
- 1:08:35Kearns: Or
- 1:08:36Jon: but
- 1:08:38if I, if Vana Quero is the, is the little girl from um, Pan's Labyrinth?
- 1:08:43Kearns: no, then not I I thought you were talking about the mother.
- 1:08:47Jon: No, no, no.
- 1:08:47She's the, she's the little girl from Pan's.
- 1:08:51Kearns: Yeah.
- 1:08:51If you haven't seen E two Mama Tan Bim, by the way, that's another fun one.
- 1:08:56Um, not nearly, it's not the same type of movie.
- 1:08:58It has nothing to do with Guillerma del Toro.
- 1:09:00It's just a Spanish
- 1:09:01Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:09:02Kearns: two guys who meet a girl
- 1:09:04Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:09:04Kearns: bang her.
- 1:09:05But yeah, it's a
- 1:09:06Jon: So.
- 1:09:07Kearns: I.
- 1:09:07Jon: So in Black Friday, a toy store opens Thanksgiving night for its annual
- 1:09:12sale, but the customers are soon the least of their worries as an alien
- 1:09:17parasite ravages the customers and staff,
- 1:09:23and it's, you know, it's low budget, but it's really, really good.
- 1:09:26It's a lot, a lot of fun.
- 1:09:28Ryan: Anytime Bruce Campbell's done anything, I'm sold.
- 1:09:33Jon: Yep.
- 1:09:33Ryan: how
- 1:09:33Jon: Yep.
- 1:09:34That's why I watched it in the first place.
- 1:09:36Ryan: good.
- 1:09:38So good.
- 1:09:39Jon: Yeah.
- 1:09:39My number one, my number one is not truly a horror movie, it's horror adjacent.
- 1:09:47It's not truly a Thanksgiving movie, but it probably has one of the most
- 1:09:52iconic Thanksgiving scenes ever in a movie, and it is Adam's family values.
- 1:09:59Ryan: Uh,
- 1:10:02Kearns: That's a good choice.
- 1:10:03I didn't even have that on my radar
- 1:10:05Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:10:07Yep.
- 1:10:08Yep.
- 1:10:08So, um, at Camp Wednesday stages a reenactment of the first Thanksgiving,
- 1:10:15but it's not quite the version of Thanksgiving that we're comfortable with.
- 1:10:22Meanwhile, mortician Gomez are celebrating a new edition named Bert
- 1:10:31Uncle Festers in love, uncle festers in love with a, with a con artist.
- 1:10:37It's such a wonderful movie,
- 1:10:40Kearns: movie
- 1:10:41Jon: and it's currently on sale on 4K on Amazon, so
- 1:10:46Kearns: is Ster Lloyd.
- 1:10:47Christopher Lloyd.
- 1:10:49Yeah.
- 1:10:49It's another great reason to love that movie.
- 1:10:52Ryan: so watching this film, millions of times, he, she kills that girl.
- 1:10:58She, she,
- 1:10:59Kearns: Yeah.
- 1:11:00Ryan: She, she drowns
- 1:11:01Kearns: kills that girl.
- 1:11:03Ryan: Just wanted to make
- 1:11:04Kearns: yeah.
- 1:11:04Ryan: she didn't know how to swim.
- 1:11:06She didn't know how to swim.
- 1:11:08Kearns: It is a little bit of, um, the good sun going on in this movie.
- 1:11:11They go a little too far and Adams family values,
- 1:11:14Jon: The, the Adam,
- 1:11:15family was always my favorite of those two shows, the Munsters and
- 1:11:19the Adams family, because the Adams family, Al was always a little darker.
- 1:11:24Ryan: yes.
- 1:11:25Kearns: yeah, absolutely.
- 1:11:27The Munsters was the comedic knockoff
- 1:11:30Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:11:31Kearns: mo.
- 1:11:31I guess Adams family is already comedic, but it was kind of like
- 1:11:34a more comedic knockoff, at least that's always my interpretation of it.
- 1:11:37Ryan: Yeah.
- 1:11:37I,
- 1:11:38Jon: Yeah.
- 1:11:38Ryan: were more like, what would these, like the monsters be in a
- 1:11:42comedy like element while the Adams family was already comedy because
- 1:11:47it was a comic strip beforehand by
- 1:11:50Jon: Yeah.
- 1:11:51Ryan: So,
- 1:11:52Kearns: yeah.
- 1:11:54All right, guys, that's Thanksgiving.
- 1:11:56Hope you enjoy the episode and take a look at the cards to see
- 1:12:01the episodes we referenced earlier.
- 1:12:03Ryan: Thanksgiving.
- 1:12:05Jon: Happy Thanksgiving guys.
- 1:12:06Kearns: sucks everybody.
- 1:12:09Jon: Eat as much as you want.
- 1:12:10Nobody can tell you to stop.
- 1:12:12See ya.
