- 0:11Speaker 1: Podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be here for the
- 0:19Speaker 1: next two hours, at least at.
- 0:24Speaker 3: I just looked at their hour lads depth chart as
- 0:28Speaker 3: work for hour.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I want to score, Yeah, well, I want to move
- 0:32Speaker 1: the ball and score.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Mike, how do you score?
- 0:33Speaker 5: Throw the ball? Throw a score, run to win?
- 0:35Speaker 6: Thank you?
- 0:37Speaker 1: More finely a score.
- 0:38Speaker 7: When we talk about yakis, what we're going to get
- 0:44Speaker 7: it right?
- 0:44Speaker 1: To add fuel to the fire.
- 0:45Speaker 7: According to Catholic's x account, starting five left to right
- 0:50Speaker 7: will be low move Campbell.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Wilson, and Kaka Evan.
- 0:55Speaker 4: It's about to go.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't even have known when the draft was until
- 0:59Speaker 1: that to college. That's too busy.
- 1:01Speaker 8: Playing sports to watch the draft.
- 1:06Speaker 5: The Draft.
- 1:07Speaker 9: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:12Speaker 9: deals via Toyota dot com.
- 1:16Speaker 1: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:18Speaker 7: It is Tuesday here at ji Let's Stadium, and more importantly,
- 1:22Speaker 7: it's the Tuesday after the draft.
- 1:24Speaker 1: The draft is in the rearview mirror but we're here to.
- 1:27Speaker 7: Talk about it. Give some thoughts. You know, now that
- 1:30Speaker 7: the Patriots have completed the draft, have they done their
- 1:34Speaker 7: street free agency yet?
- 1:35Speaker 5: We have a bunch of reported students free agents.
- 1:38Speaker 7: Go over some of those reports. Yeah, nothing, okay, So
- 1:45Speaker 7: we'll talk about those. We'll talk about who they drafted,
- 1:47Speaker 7: who's your favorite, who do you think will be the
- 1:50Speaker 7: first to make an impact? All of that, your calls,
- 1:54Speaker 7: your emails in the next two hours. Here and Patriots
- 1:57Speaker 7: haven filtered. It's Mike, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me.
- 1:59Speaker 7: It's in the booth. So I hear that they're giggling.
- 2:06Speaker 5: I think that's him grimacing from back pain.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Heah, yeah, just carrying us all the weekend.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Well, he's a marine.
- 2:13Speaker 10: He fought in Afghanistan, so he's a he's got a
- 2:15Speaker 10: lot of degenerators.
- 2:15Speaker 11: I haven't told you yet, Fred, I need back surgery.
- 2:17Speaker 11: I'm going on Friday to see the nervous surgeon. Really,
- 2:21Speaker 11: I have two discs touching each other and they're pinching nerves.
- 2:24Speaker 11: They got to put a balloon in between the discs.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Oh man. They got to make them compact discs.
- 2:30Speaker 11: I'll only be out for a week. You've inspired me
- 2:33Speaker 11: to come in don't worry.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Okay, all right, you come in on like a stretcher.
- 2:37Speaker 5: And track reaching over work on the board.
- 2:40Speaker 7: All right, So any lingering thoughts over the from over
- 2:44Speaker 7: the weekend into.
- 2:46Speaker 10: It, I just say, this is my favorite part of
- 2:47Speaker 10: the draft when you're just like, you know, you guys
- 2:49Speaker 10: make fun of me for my nerd my nerd depth
- 2:51Speaker 10: chart that I keep that admittedly is Evan can see.
- 2:53Speaker 10: And uh no, I just love nothing more than lining
- 2:56Speaker 10: those guys up, plugging them in. You know, even the
- 2:58Speaker 10: UDFA is plugging them in. And then it's like, all right,
- 3:01Speaker 10: this is pretty much the roster. You know, maybe one
- 3:03Speaker 10: or two editions down the road, but it's just good
- 3:06Speaker 10: to finally get past the team building point and really
- 3:09Speaker 10: start to think about OTAs and vacations and then training camp.
- 3:12Speaker 5: It's coming quick.
- 3:13Speaker 7: So as the roster stands right now, do you feel
- 3:17Speaker 7: that there's any area of the team where you'd say
- 3:21Speaker 7: they can't go into the season like this?
- 3:23Speaker 1: No, I don't think so either. I don't.
- 3:25Speaker 8: Yeah, even me, Yeah, I always have a small seat
- 3:28Speaker 8: concern right right, I don't only have one.
- 3:30Speaker 10: I think they need players to develop that's you know,
- 3:33Speaker 10: I think the big piece that often gets left behind.
- 3:35Speaker 10: You look at a team's offseason and you say, who
- 3:38Speaker 10: did they add, and that's solely how much they improved.
- 3:40Speaker 10: Then to an extent, that is true, you need to
- 3:42Speaker 10: add pieces at holes. But you know, to me, I
- 3:45Speaker 10: just keep going back to Drake may your two in
- 3:47Speaker 10: the system.
- 3:48Speaker 5: What's that look like?
- 3:49Speaker 10: You know, how does he make his strides and can
- 3:51Speaker 10: he you know, continue to put the offense in position,
- 3:53Speaker 10: and of course the offensive line is a big piece
- 3:55Speaker 10: of that. So it is all connected, as we talked
- 3:57Speaker 10: about on draft weekend.
- 3:59Speaker 5: But I think I think they're in pretty good shape.
- 4:00Speaker 10: I think they've put the pieces in place to continue
- 4:03Speaker 10: to build the foundation to build this team long term,
- 4:05Speaker 10: which is what you know, we all want. We want
- 4:07Speaker 10: them to be drafting, not for immediate need, but for
- 4:11Speaker 10: you know, to continue to stock and have guys that
- 4:13Speaker 10: are going to contribute over the next four or five years,
- 4:16Speaker 10: not just here in twenty twenty seven.
- 4:17Speaker 5: So it does require little patients. I think. I just
- 4:20Speaker 5: think sometimes it's a gotcha of like, well how much
- 4:21Speaker 5: better are they?
- 4:22Speaker 10: And it's like, well, you got to get there to
- 4:24Speaker 10: that point where you're you know, not always chasing your
- 4:28Speaker 10: needs in the draft. You're building for the future and
- 4:30Speaker 10: building and have a foundation. So we'll see a lot
- 4:33Speaker 10: of these guys have to develop. Will Campbell has to develop,
- 4:35Speaker 10: Jared Wilson has to develop. You know, maybe some guys
- 4:38Speaker 10: that we're surprised about. That's what gets me excited is
- 4:41Speaker 10: when somebody maybe comes out of the woodwork that you
- 4:43Speaker 10: weren't expecting.
- 4:43Speaker 7: In any country, there's a lot of questions, but I
- 4:45Speaker 7: think we know where the answers will come from.
- 4:47Speaker 1: If guys develop.
- 4:49Speaker 7: Yeah, if they don't develop, okay, well now you're back
- 4:51Speaker 7: to square one in some areas. But they've got what
- 4:55Speaker 7: they think are the answers to questions.
- 4:58Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean it's you know, look, some guys are
- 5:00Speaker 10: going to drop off too. You know that's and that
- 5:02Speaker 10: you have to have enough improvement offset.
- 5:05Speaker 3: You know, some like linebacker off ball linebacker, like, I
- 5:09Speaker 3: don't know how much stock you're putting in.
- 5:15Speaker 12: Six round pick.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I'm not sure how much you're counting on him to
- 5:19Speaker 3: contribute on defense right away. So you know, behind Robert Spolane,
- 5:24Speaker 3: how do you feel if he's not there and deduce
- 5:27Speaker 3: his point about attrition and things like that. You know,
- 5:31Speaker 3: he's getting older and he's position that doesn't have a
- 5:34Speaker 3: ton of shelf life usually. But other than that, and
- 5:37Speaker 3: then of course you know, getting this a J. Brown
- 5:40Speaker 3: deal across the finish line, that's.
- 5:42Speaker 7: That's a big one. That sort of my thinking going
- 5:44Speaker 7: into the season, is a J. Brown is going to
- 5:46Speaker 7: be on the team.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think that's how we're all operating.
- 5:49Speaker 3: As long as that is.
- 5:50Speaker 10: A little red space in there in the death chart
- 5:52Speaker 10: I have just and it's not in bold, it's got
- 5:54Speaker 10: a question mark, and.
- 5:55Speaker 3: It's yeah, I think he's gonna play the xduced.
- 5:58Speaker 4: We're going to put a Brown to commit.
- 6:02Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 3: If as long as that is happening, then you feel
- 6:06Speaker 3: really good about where they're at. I mean there's some
- 6:08Speaker 3: depth concerns always, you know, i'd say linebacker, maybe a
- 6:12Speaker 3: little bit int your offensive line. They didn't draft a guard,
- 6:15Speaker 3: which surprised me a little bit. Interior defensive line and
- 6:20Speaker 3: you know, get a nose tackle, the true Tonga replacement.
- 6:24Speaker 12: But there are some guys out there.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I was looking at it yesterday just and what is
- 6:28Speaker 3: left in free agency that this time of year teams
- 6:30Speaker 3: might say, Okay, we didn't get this done in the draft,
- 6:34Speaker 3: you know, can do they go out and sign a
- 6:36Speaker 3: Matt Mulano, Bobby Wagner one more season swan song type
- 6:41Speaker 3: of thing, do they you know, see value.
- 6:43Speaker 7: And as we know, guys become available. Yeah, the guys
- 6:47Speaker 7: who want available now become available later throughout the.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Summer, certainly in August, in the you know, around roster cutdowns,
- 6:54Speaker 3: there'll be another wave of.
- 6:55Speaker 5: There's a lot of nose tackles out there too.
- 6:57Speaker 10: That's like, I feel like a position that I mean,
- 6:59Speaker 10: it's happened a lot over the years. Carl Davis is
- 7:01Speaker 10: a guy who came in a few years ago, and
- 7:03Speaker 10: you know, you need a two down run stuff for
- 7:05Speaker 10: There's a bunch of guys in their early thirties out
- 7:07Speaker 10: there that have played a lot of snaps that I
- 7:08Speaker 10: just wonder the differences, and I think you look across
- 7:11Speaker 10: the league, every team has a position. Well, well, if
- 7:13Speaker 10: you lost this one guy, you don't have much. But
- 7:14Speaker 10: I mean, you're not going to have a backup that
- 7:17Speaker 10: you're feel great about behind everybody.
- 7:19Speaker 5: But at the same time, I wonder, if you know.
- 7:21Speaker 10: Would they make a move like that before or would
- 7:24Speaker 10: you kind of wait to see if somebody got hurt
- 7:25Speaker 10: and then all right, we got to go to the
- 7:26Speaker 10: street to get you know, somebody.
- 7:28Speaker 8: Yeah, And that's I feel exactly the way Mike and
- 7:32Speaker 8: Evan do. In terms of where the roster is right now.
- 7:35Speaker 8: That doesn't mean I think they're loaded across the board.
- 7:37Speaker 8: I think that they have answers and probably more. I
- 7:43Speaker 8: think they have fewer question marks in terms of starters
- 7:46Speaker 8: than they did last year. I think we kind of
- 7:48Speaker 8: know who's going to play. You know, last year at
- 7:50Speaker 8: this time, we didn't know Jared Wilson was going to
- 7:53Speaker 8: start at left guard.
- 7:54Speaker 4: You know, we thought it was a chance.
- 7:57Speaker 8: But I think that you kind of have pieces in play,
- 8:00Speaker 8: you know where guys are going to slot. But the
- 8:02Speaker 8: big thing that Mike and Evan talked about, I think
- 8:05Speaker 8: is the valid thing is which of these young guys
- 8:10Speaker 8: doesn't progress the way you hope and then in turn.
- 8:14Speaker 4: What kind of problems does that create?
- 8:16Speaker 8: Because there is you know, again, I think the roster
- 8:20Speaker 8: is in a much better spot than it was a
- 8:22Speaker 8: year and a half ago when this all started.
- 8:25Speaker 4: But the depth isn't where you want it yet either.
- 8:27Speaker 8: So if like Tevion Henderson and Jared Wilson, you know,
- 8:31Speaker 8: just does two guys off the top of my head,
- 8:32Speaker 8: two young guys you know, they don't take a year
- 8:36Speaker 8: or two jump or you know, show any more promise.
- 8:39Speaker 8: Then does that affect trickle down? You know, does that
- 8:41Speaker 8: affect the offensive line? You know, where do you go
- 8:44Speaker 8: for center?
- 8:45Speaker 3: That's why I pointed that interior offensive line because right
- 8:47Speaker 3: now Ben Brown is a good top backup. But if
- 8:51Speaker 3: he's forced to start, you know, what's the layer of
- 8:54Speaker 3: depth behind Ben Brown? You know, if the Barrik Tucker
- 8:58Speaker 3: goes down, if Wilson or one who goes down, and
- 9:01Speaker 3: now he's a starter for a long period of time,
- 9:04Speaker 3: you know, is it is it Kyden Wallace? Is it
- 9:07Speaker 3: one of the Andre maka Larler?
- 9:10Speaker 12: Who?
- 9:11Speaker 4: You know, like, who who's that next?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Is it?
- 9:15Speaker 12: You know?
- 9:15Speaker 3: They kind of hinted, you know, vaguely at you know,
- 9:19Speaker 3: law Moup potentially playing guard if need be, not his
- 9:23Speaker 3: long term position, but if they needed him to kick
- 9:26Speaker 3: inside as a backup, they might be able to do
- 9:28Speaker 3: that with Yeah, I mean, like I think there's a
- 9:31Speaker 3: chance that he you know, plays a little bit at
- 9:33Speaker 3: all four spots, you know, not center.
- 9:34Speaker 10: But yeah, I think Paul, you hit on something good
- 9:36Speaker 10: that I was what I was starting to think of
- 9:38Speaker 10: that last year we said, you know, they haven't they're
- 9:40Speaker 10: not have depth like that was the big question.
- 9:41Speaker 5: Has their depth improved?
- 9:42Speaker 10: You know, is it better this year? And how much better?
- 9:45Speaker 10: Some spots marginally, maybe other spots not so much. But
- 9:48Speaker 10: that's that to me again goes back to my original
- 9:50Speaker 10: point of is this team building, that foundation that when
- 9:53Speaker 10: you do have somebody.
- 9:55Speaker 8: And one of the questions you know, we we were asked,
- 9:58Speaker 8: you know for our newsletter this week, is do you
- 10:00Speaker 8: do you feel like the roster has improved? I think
- 10:02Speaker 8: some an element of that, and I do think you
- 10:04Speaker 8: can look at you can definitely answer yes. I mean
- 10:07Speaker 8: I don't think you can say that it's gotten worse.
- 10:09Speaker 4: You can't. I think that's the only option that's not
- 10:11Speaker 4: on the table.
- 10:12Speaker 8: It's either very similar or gotten better a little bit.
- 10:16Speaker 8: But I would look at things like that. So the
- 10:18Speaker 8: safety situation last year at this time was you know,
- 10:23Speaker 8: Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers, right, and then all of
- 10:27Speaker 8: a sudden it turned into Craig Woodson, a rookie fourth
- 10:30Speaker 8: round pick, and Jalen Hawkins. So that's a big difference.
- 10:35Speaker 8: It worked out, they played well. I think Woodson got
- 10:37Speaker 8: better and better as the year went on. So now
- 10:39Speaker 8: you have Woodson with Kevin Byrd, who I don't think
- 10:42Speaker 8: anybody would argue isn't a better player than Jalen Hawkins.
- 10:46Speaker 8: But what is he at thirty three or whatever he's
- 10:48Speaker 8: going to be, you know, at the start of the year.
- 10:50Speaker 8: And does he stay healthy the way he's been, He's
- 10:52Speaker 8: been an absolute machine. He's never missing, he never misses games,
- 10:57Speaker 8: So you have to hope that that kind of stays
- 10:59Speaker 8: stay that way. I'm just looking and I have like
- 11:02Speaker 8: some of nic stuff. Yeah, he's missed like one game
- 11:06Speaker 8: in ten years. Yeah, it's ridiculous. Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 3: And how durable he doesn't miss many snaps period, like
- 11:14Speaker 3: even within the games.
- 11:15Speaker 12: Yeah, very durable player.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Oh good stuff. One one question I have is earlier
- 11:21Speaker 1: in the season.
- 11:22Speaker 7: They lost Gibson last year, so they were down to
- 11:25Speaker 7: two running backs, one a rookie.
- 11:28Speaker 1: How do you think this jam Miller.
- 11:30Speaker 7: Can be the third guy and and see time right
- 11:34Speaker 7: away or will he be one of those running backs
- 11:36Speaker 7: that get red shirted.
- 11:38Speaker 10: Or I think it's a good call out right, I
- 11:39Speaker 10: think they'll have a chance to I'm going to write
- 11:41Speaker 10: his profile. So I have watched a little bit more
- 11:44Speaker 10: of him. You know, he's had a cad a couple
- 11:47Speaker 10: of good games last year.
- 11:49Speaker 1: But I think you need three running back.
- 11:51Speaker 10: Yeah, I just I don't know if he's a kick
- 11:52Speaker 10: returner too. And that's almost like I feel like the
- 11:53Speaker 10: third running back, you'd love him. I think they'd love
- 11:56Speaker 10: him to be a kick returner. I'm not sure that
- 11:57Speaker 10: that's going to be.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I think you might have it because to me, he's
- 12:01Speaker 3: like got more build up speed than he does.
- 12:04Speaker 12: Like instant acceleration.
- 12:06Speaker 3: So when I watched him, that was just my takeaway
- 12:09Speaker 3: is Okay, once he gets moving, he's got four to
- 12:11Speaker 3: four to two speed, which the same as Trevon Henderson.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Like he he can run at a pretty good pace,
- 12:17Speaker 3: but he's not exactly like instant to that in terms
- 12:21Speaker 3: of his acceleration. So on a kickoff, you have this
- 12:24Speaker 3: whole you know, kind of runway to build up to
- 12:27Speaker 3: that speed.
- 12:27Speaker 12: He's got size, He's.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Got some girth to him, Like he's pretty sturdy, So
- 12:32Speaker 3: you know, the concerns with him were.
- 12:34Speaker 4: A lack of burst.
- 12:35Speaker 3: You know, he doesn't have that initial burst to kind
- 12:37Speaker 3: of get the edge or get up into the second
- 12:39Speaker 3: level and third level of the defense. Maybe some vision
- 12:42Speaker 3: between the tackles concerns past pro like a lot of
- 12:46Speaker 3: young running backs the UDFA that they signed Montgomery reportedly,
- 12:51Speaker 3: at least there's some people that think he's better than
- 12:54Speaker 3: jam Miller. So I've seen a couple of people on
- 12:58Speaker 3: the X that have said that the better they got,
- 13:00Speaker 3: the better running back as a UDF.
- 13:02Speaker 8: Alabama was a weird team last year. They couldn't run
- 13:05Speaker 8: the ball. Yeah, and that was a problem all year.
- 13:08Speaker 8: A lot of people used that. They used that as
- 13:11Speaker 8: a defensive Ty Simpson, you know, like too much of
- 13:15Speaker 8: the burden was on him, and then once he got
- 13:17Speaker 8: banged up a little bit, they had no running game
- 13:19Speaker 8: to fall back on. And you know, Jim Miller, I believe,
- 13:22Speaker 8: was like a three yards per carry kind of guy.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Yeah for Alabama, which.
- 13:26Speaker 8: You know, they have a first round tackle that got
- 13:28Speaker 8: just got taken in Proctor, So you would think that
- 13:32Speaker 8: they would be one of those teams that they can
- 13:33Speaker 8: always run the ball.
- 13:34Speaker 4: But it was a weird, weird year for them. Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yeah, he gets some Knox for his vision between the
- 13:40Speaker 3: tackles and a couple of games that I watched of
- 13:43Speaker 3: his I was like, I'm not that much place to go, like,
- 13:46Speaker 3: you know, especially against some of the better teams like
- 13:48Speaker 3: Georgia and stuff like that. I was like, I don't know,
- 13:50Speaker 3: there's not there really aren't a whole lot of space
- 13:52Speaker 3: out here for him to go. But I think that
- 13:55Speaker 3: he's got some of that build up speed or that
- 13:59Speaker 3: you know, once he gets up to a top speedy,
- 14:02Speaker 3: he carries it pretty well that maybe he could be
- 14:05Speaker 3: a kickoff returning. He covered kicks a lot early in
- 14:08Speaker 3: his career at Alabama as an underclassman, he covered a
- 14:11Speaker 3: lot of kicks too, So you know you've heard some
- 14:14Speaker 3: you know, maybe a little bit smaller but a little
- 14:16Speaker 3: bit faster like Brandon Bolden type vibes with him, that
- 14:19Speaker 3: he can be a pretty big special teams contributor and
- 14:23Speaker 3: then maybe like a you know, emergency running back.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So what's the number on the roster right now?
- 14:28Speaker 4: In eighty seven.
- 14:29Speaker 7: Eighty seven and more, some of the people reported that
- 14:33Speaker 7: they signed off the street.
- 14:34Speaker 8: Sure I can are recounting them or no, yeah, I'm
- 14:37Speaker 8: counting counting the UDFs there at eighty seven.
- 14:40Speaker 1: So they got another six holes.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Yeah, right, so you know.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Where did you come up with three's.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Ination is a IPP player, So they technically have eighty
- 14:58Speaker 3: eight bodies, but they have owned eighty seven county against
- 15:01Speaker 3: the roster Germany or something.
- 15:04Speaker 10: Yeah, Lawrence Mattz, Yeah, he came in late last year.
- 15:08Speaker 10: But they did, you know Devan's point about the guard position.
- 15:10Speaker 10: They did sign or have reportedly signed two guards, Jacob
- 15:14Speaker 10: Rizzy and John Darius Morgan. They also sign a tight
- 15:19Speaker 10: end Tanner Arkin, and four wide receivers Jimmy Kibble, Cameron Dorner,
- 15:23Speaker 10: Kyle Dixon, nick to Gennaro one running back Miles Montgomery.
- 15:27Speaker 10: That Evan mentioned defense a little bit lighter on the
- 15:30Speaker 10: undrafted guys David Blay up front, and I watched a
- 15:32Speaker 10: little today and then cornerbacks Channing Canada and Kenneth Harris.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Uh so a little you know, the West wide receivers
- 15:39Speaker 5: a little bit intriguing to me.
- 15:40Speaker 10: I mean they got shoot, they got a bunch of
- 15:42Speaker 10: wide receivers right now. I mean they got ten ten, eleven,
- 15:45Speaker 10: I mean eleven. I think we're not counting a potential
- 15:47Speaker 10: a J.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Brown move.
- 15:49Speaker 10: You know, I was just interested in how those guys
- 15:51Speaker 10: kind of differentiate themselves one, you know, Degennaro looks just
- 15:56Speaker 10: like your favorite Paul, those like scrappy Scrappy's receive.
- 16:00Speaker 4: It's Josh. But the one, the one, Bobby, I love you,
- 16:04Speaker 4: please fall in love with something different.
- 16:06Speaker 10: The one that was kind of interested in was Tanner
- 16:09Speaker 10: Arkan though from Illinois, who is six three and a
- 16:11Speaker 10: half too. Uh and you know ran a four Uh no, sorry,
- 16:15Speaker 10: that's the sorry, that's the tight end.
- 16:18Speaker 4: We were going to say four eight eight.
- 16:19Speaker 5: I was like, waite, wrong guy, I wrong guy, I
- 16:21Speaker 5: wrong guy.
- 16:22Speaker 10: Know it's Dixon below him. So it's Dixon culver stock
- 16:24Speaker 10: and really small school kid. But six two uh for
- 16:27Speaker 10: uh six two four you know, I mean six two
- 16:29Speaker 10: and a half two twenty you know ran a four
- 16:31Speaker 10: five one. He's a big contested receiver kind of guy.
- 16:34Speaker 10: So it's just, you know, an interesting kind of complement
- 16:37Speaker 10: to this group. Of course, you know John Giles unfortunately
- 16:39Speaker 10: for Paul got got got the the let go yesterday
- 16:42Speaker 10: as they as they brought guys in. But yeah, we'll
- 16:46Speaker 10: see beach.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Out for any of those. I mean, there's four wide receiver.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Do you make anything of that?
- 16:50Speaker 12: Though?
- 16:50Speaker 10: Does that sound like a big number to me? I
- 16:51Speaker 10: feel like I've been doing this long enough that I
- 16:53Speaker 10: should have a sense.
- 16:53Speaker 8: Yes, twelve at camp ten or so, yeah, right, yeah,
- 16:57Speaker 8: you need those guys to run around.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think that they didn't They didn't draft one,
- 17:03Speaker 3: so Elliot Wolf said that, you know, they'll be active
- 17:05Speaker 3: in the ud F A market at wide receiver because
- 17:08Speaker 3: they decided not to draft one. So they threw some
- 17:11Speaker 3: darts in the ud fas Dorner. I think it is interesting.
- 17:14Speaker 3: You know, we'll see. You know, he's got a little
- 17:17Speaker 3: bit more. He's not fully Paul's you know.
- 17:23Speaker 12: What you hate. I was trying.
- 17:24Speaker 3: To the right terminology for that. He's got, you know,
- 17:30Speaker 3: some ability, you know, Montgomery, the running back. I've heard
- 17:33Speaker 3: some good things about as somebody that people thought was
- 17:37Speaker 3: going to get drafted.
- 17:39Speaker 8: Larson still in the picture is got my hair cuts
- 17:42Speaker 8: barbera cuts.
- 17:43Speaker 3: This air If you would like to buy real estate
- 17:45Speaker 3: on land Larison Island, it's available beachfront property. So you
- 17:52Speaker 3: can't you can't have you can't have the product earlier
- 17:58Speaker 3: if you on like you know, there's there's access right
- 18:00Speaker 3: off the ferry.
- 18:04Speaker 8: Airbnb maybe, but if you have a J Brown with
- 18:07Speaker 8: Romeo Dobs and then let's say Mac Collins God bless
- 18:13Speaker 8: you and Larrison, but I'm trying to go, like, so
- 18:18Speaker 8: that's three. Yeah, then you get into the Mario Douglas,
- 18:22Speaker 8: Kasha on Booty Ft and Chisholm and I we're up
- 18:26Speaker 8: to six and Kyle Williams is seven. Okay, now fully
- 18:31Speaker 8: anticipating somebody goes, you know, not get cut, but someone
- 18:37Speaker 8: goes like in a trade or something like Booty has
- 18:40Speaker 8: been rumored, you know, throughout this whole off season. Just
- 18:46Speaker 8: those guys, in my my view are probably camp bodies.
- 18:49Speaker 8: I don't see I don't see an avenue for any
- 18:52Speaker 8: of them to be more than a practice squad option.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Now.
- 18:54Speaker 10: I think the running back that Fred brought up number
- 18:56Speaker 10: two running backs, the running back has a chance all
- 18:58Speaker 10: the day. Three we just recorded a kind of a
- 19:00Speaker 10: draft rap uh, and that's just you know, there's no
- 19:02Speaker 10: pick in the fourth round, so it's just an easy
- 19:04Speaker 10: dividing line between the top three guys. And then you know,
- 19:07Speaker 10: as Evan put it, kind of the special team shots.
- 19:09Speaker 10: But of all those special teams potential guys, I do
- 19:12Speaker 10: think the running back is one spot where you know,
- 19:15Speaker 10: maybe maybe somebody could immerse. There's also just a lot
- 19:17Speaker 10: of bodies at cornerback. You know, can any of those guys,
- 19:20Speaker 10: you know, Chucky Trees might be back and maybe he
- 19:22Speaker 10: resumes that role that he had last year. But is
- 19:25Speaker 10: there any other Marcello style Kobe minor Prunty from this year,
- 19:28Speaker 10: any of those guys Kendill.
- 19:30Speaker 8: Vildor that I say to say, you nailed that one.
- 19:34Speaker 3: He's got some NFL experience, you know, kind of like
- 19:37Speaker 3: a Charles Woods.
- 19:38Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:39Speaker 12: But yeah, I watched Prunty.
- 19:41Speaker 3: I I kind of think that he's also here to
- 19:44Speaker 3: play special teams. To be honest, me too, but I
- 19:48Speaker 3: actually saw him as maybe somebody that could play a
- 19:50Speaker 3: little safety if they wanted to develop.
- 19:53Speaker 12: Him on defense.
- 19:53Speaker 3: But Ryan Cowden made it sound like they're going to
- 19:56Speaker 3: start him at corner.
- 19:58Speaker 12: I just thought that he was a little bit wrong corner.
- 20:00Speaker 3: But he's got some length, he's got some size, he's
- 20:02Speaker 3: got some long speed, and he's actually a really good blitzer.
- 20:06Speaker 12: Like that was probably the one thing.
- 20:08Speaker 3: You know, blitzing off the short side of the field
- 20:10Speaker 3: that I was like, Okay, that that's got some closing speed,
- 20:14Speaker 3: you know, some aggressiveness or in the blitz some timing.
- 20:17Speaker 3: So that was probably not exactly what you want to
- 20:19Speaker 3: hear is that your corner is best going forward.
- 20:21Speaker 12: So you know, that was probably the thing that stood
- 20:24Speaker 12: out to me.
- 20:24Speaker 5: But that was like a safety.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Sounds like a safety and also sounds like a guy
- 20:29Speaker 3: that'd be pretty good on special teams, right if he
- 20:31Speaker 3: can kind of do the coast space.
- 20:32Speaker 8: And I just think Marcella's dial like, you know, a
- 20:35Speaker 8: little bit bigger rangy, versatile, versatility to play both corner
- 20:39Speaker 8: and maybe you know, on special teams. That's sort of
- 20:43Speaker 8: kind of I'm thinking of in my mind. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 8: that's what they're envisioning.
- 20:47Speaker 3: He had some issues a thing, you know, just like
- 20:49Speaker 3: double moves, like he'd bite on it every time a
- 20:51Speaker 3: corner back would hit him with a pump and a stutter.
- 20:54Speaker 3: It would just me bite on it. You know, things
- 20:57Speaker 3: like that that he needs to clean up. But he's
- 20:59Speaker 3: got some raw measurables that are intriguing, especially on special teams.
- 21:05Speaker 3: So we'll see, but you know, they probably need I'm
- 21:09Speaker 3: assuming that they're looking at Charles Woods as a guy
- 21:11Speaker 3: that's going to be the fourth cornerback if all goes well, yeah,
- 21:14Speaker 3: and then the fifth guy if there's six. Those guys
- 21:17Speaker 3: are going to be ninety percent of any snaps they
- 21:20Speaker 3: get are going to be on special teams.
- 21:22Speaker 1: So at the.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Cornerback room though, I like, I don't really have any concerns.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Like I know some people are crazy about the depth
- 21:30Speaker 3: at corner. I mean, when you have Christian Zalez, Carlton Davis,
- 21:33Speaker 3: and Marcus Jones, you feel pretty good about the quarterback.
- 21:36Speaker 4: To me, it would only be in Carlton Davis's durability.
- 21:42Speaker 5: Yeah, Christian Zalez is too a little bit.
- 21:44Speaker 4: That's a good point. Good point, Mike a little bit.
- 21:46Speaker 12: We don't talk.
- 21:47Speaker 4: I like to be a little bit more positive.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But you know, somebody is going to be injured in
- 21:51Speaker 1: training camp.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Yeah you know, yeah, it happens.
- 21:53Speaker 8: No, But I mean Mike is right. Gonzalez has missed
- 21:56Speaker 8: time in all of his seasons. You know, people forget
- 21:59Speaker 8: last year because it was early in the year and
- 22:01Speaker 8: then he was just like there the rest of the way.
- 22:03Speaker 10: But first three they went one and two and I
- 22:04Speaker 10: don't know, boom my hamstring.
- 22:12Speaker 4: That's not time.
- 22:14Speaker 5: They lost two of them.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Wow, easy tailor one don't thrown? Oh you just get that.
- 22:24Speaker 13: Don't be mean.
- 22:25Speaker 4: I love you, Taylor, I actually really do. I've gone
- 22:27Speaker 4: to really really like you.
- 22:29Speaker 1: All right, what what else do we need to put
- 22:31Speaker 1: on the table?
- 22:33Speaker 10: Just probably that we'll see all these guys next week,
- 22:36Speaker 10: woroking in the camps next week, you know, Lomo.
- 22:39Speaker 5: I think we'll come in on Thursday.
- 22:41Speaker 12: I think all of them are coming Thursday.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Seven, the day they all committed.
- 22:46Speaker 7: We'll have access to the first round guy out in
- 22:49Speaker 7: the field like they usually do up the jersey.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Would be interesting to see, like working mini camp. Just
- 22:56Speaker 3: I guess act rare dian, but like you going to
- 23:00Speaker 3: be evaluating the trenches.
- 23:03Speaker 10: Right like so I want to see what he looks
- 23:06Speaker 10: on the field, how he moves.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Famous Morton in connection.
- 23:11Speaker 12: Well, at least they do have a quarterback they drafted.
- 23:14Speaker 3: It's not no offense to Ben Woolridge, but it's not
- 23:16Speaker 3: Ben Woolridge.
- 23:18Speaker 4: There was another one who is that kid? And he struggled.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Well, I just remember Ben Woolridge, like would take like
- 23:28Speaker 3: the snap behind the play, you'd like go through the
- 23:32Speaker 3: motions of like play and everybody is like god all
- 23:36Speaker 3: crazy about it, and I was like, what a heart
- 23:40Speaker 3: go stand on the sideline with everybody else.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Dude, all right, Ah, that reminds me of what he used.
- 23:47Speaker 5: To do the play is Sad Depress the movie.
- 23:53Speaker 12: Yes, I think Drake is gonna play quarterback, probably form Drake.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he's got to spot. I think he's
- 24:00Speaker 3: probably gonna make the roster.
- 24:02Speaker 4: You're gonna pencil that in.
- 24:03Speaker 12: Yeah, Yeah, Milton will probably be the three technique.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:06Speaker 7: You know, you know, as we've talked about, as everyone knows,
- 24:10Speaker 7: that's the key to this year is what kind of
- 24:14Speaker 7: progress could he make?
- 24:16Speaker 1: Drake.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just the offense, right, I mean that's the NFL.
- 24:20Speaker 14: Now.
- 24:20Speaker 10: You need an offense, you need a quarterback who knows
- 24:22Speaker 10: what he's doing. And I guess I'm just so much
- 24:25Speaker 10: more interested in it situationally, just because what happened in
- 24:29Speaker 10: the super Bowl. And I'm really the playoffs, because you
- 24:32Speaker 10: were so high on Drake May during the season and
- 24:34Speaker 10: he's the MVP runner up and you know, let's face it,
- 24:37Speaker 10: after the performance and the playoffs and the schedule and
- 24:40Speaker 10: all that stuff, like he's you know, kind of gotten
- 24:42Speaker 10: denigrated for his performance last year. And you know that's
- 24:46Speaker 10: if you had asked me that in mid November of like, well,
- 24:49Speaker 10: you know, the offseason, people are going to kind of
- 24:51Speaker 10: be like, well we don't know, Drake. I just I
- 24:54Speaker 10: want to see him get back to the level he
- 24:55Speaker 10: was at and get that confidence back, and just you know,
- 24:58Speaker 10: see what he looks like as he really starts to
- 25:00Speaker 10: settle in to this system.
- 25:02Speaker 5: That we talk so much about puts on the quarterback, and.
- 25:06Speaker 10: You know, how much does the experience help in this situation.
- 25:10Speaker 10: We heard all the time about Brady and Josh having
- 25:12Speaker 10: this shorthand of like remember this game from seventeen years ago,
- 25:16Speaker 10: you know, like this is what they were doing, and
- 25:18Speaker 10: this is what we did.
- 25:19Speaker 5: We have to do something similar.
- 25:20Speaker 10: So you get to watch Drake slowly accumulate that experience
- 25:25Speaker 10: and hopefully he's really able to become that chess master
- 25:28Speaker 10: this year and put himself and the offense consistently into
- 25:32Speaker 10: position to make plays.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder how to win.
- 25:36Speaker 3: You know, to like last year was laying a foundation
- 25:39Speaker 3: of what like their base concepts are going to be. Offensively,
- 25:43Speaker 3: they might have a little bit more fun in freedom
- 25:46Speaker 3: this year to expand on different things that maybe Josh
- 25:50Speaker 3: didn't major in in the past, that he can like
- 25:53Speaker 3: moving pockets and bootlegs and things like that that might
- 25:56Speaker 3: be a little bit more conducive to Drake's playing style
- 25:58Speaker 3: that weren't conducive to Brady or whoever he had. So
- 26:02Speaker 3: I think that's exciting because you know they have four
- 26:05Speaker 3: athletes now you know, obviously Loan was probably not gonna
- 26:08Speaker 3: play right away, but at least three of those guys
- 26:10Speaker 3: are gonna are really highly athletic blockers that are gonna start.
- 26:13Speaker 3: And if Lomu does get playing time and he's a
- 26:16Speaker 3: super athletic too, So like I don't necessarily want those
- 26:19Speaker 3: guys like in a gap scheme where they're trying to
- 26:22Speaker 3: like go downhill on people like you would want them
- 26:24Speaker 3: to be more using their finesse and using their speed
- 26:27Speaker 3: and using their ability to block in space.
- 26:30Speaker 12: A little bit more.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Then you know, we're gonna run power and we're gonna
- 26:34Speaker 3: block down and we're gonna pull the guard and the
- 26:36Speaker 3: full back's gonna come in. Like you know, that might
- 26:38Speaker 3: not be one hundred percent what's best for the personnel,
- 26:42Speaker 3: So we'll see how that goes. I mean maybe we're
- 26:44Speaker 3: two years away from that because the Loan was not
- 26:46Speaker 3: gonna play right away, but once he gets in, like
- 26:48Speaker 3: that's four FIFCI or offensive line that are all elite
- 26:51Speaker 3: athletes and not necessarily like class eaters. Like, so, how
- 26:55Speaker 3: do you kind of figure that out as well?
- 26:59Speaker 7: Will they be offense that reacts to the defense or
- 27:03Speaker 7: dictates what happens?
- 27:06Speaker 10: Well, I think they have versatility within their personnel right now.
- 27:09Speaker 10: That I mean, they have a good tight end room
- 27:11Speaker 10: that I think covers the bases pretty well. They've got
- 27:14Speaker 10: a you know, real full back. Now, they got good
- 27:17Speaker 10: size quickness in the receiver room. I mean if you
- 27:19Speaker 10: had aj Brown. So I think that they're going to
- 27:21Speaker 10: be able to do, you know, what they want to
- 27:24Speaker 10: Evan's point, I'm curious how Mike Rabel said he challenged
- 27:27Speaker 10: the offensive coaching staff or I guess the whole coaching
- 27:29Speaker 10: staff to come back with, you know, creative ways to evolve.
- 27:32Speaker 10: How does that manifest itself? You know, do we see
- 27:35Speaker 10: those things? You know, obviously not anytime soon, but you
- 27:38Speaker 10: know in training camp.
- 27:38Speaker 5: What else do they have?
- 27:39Speaker 10: I just I think that they're getting more of their
- 27:42Speaker 10: guys in place to be able to do the kind
- 27:44Speaker 10: of things that we know Josh McDaniels like to do
- 27:46Speaker 10: during his time here, to do business as business is
- 27:49Speaker 10: being done. What needs to happen this week to beat
- 27:52Speaker 10: this Seattle defense? Or this Kansas City Defense or you
- 27:55Speaker 10: know this remade Buffalo Defense.
- 27:57Speaker 5: You know, I'm really interested to see how they how
- 27:59Speaker 5: they do it.
- 28:00Speaker 10: You know, a year after working with Drake, what new
- 28:02Speaker 10: things does he feel like? You know, things that I
- 28:04Speaker 10: thought last year before I worked with him.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I don't necessarily think or they've been reinforced, you know.
- 28:08Speaker 10: I just that's that's what's exciting. I year two, year
- 28:12Speaker 10: two with Drake and Josh.
- 28:14Speaker 1: You think that.
- 28:14Speaker 7: They'll take that Super Bowl and go over it again
- 28:17Speaker 7: and and say, Okay, here's what we should have done.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Oh I don't know, And they already were a lot
- 28:23Speaker 3: of them said they watched on the plane ride.
- 28:25Speaker 6: And buried it.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 8: I mean, like I thought we were talking specifically with Drake,
- 28:30Speaker 8: and I do think that Josh, mostly with Drake, would
- 28:34Speaker 8: would look at some of that stuff they used.
- 28:36Speaker 3: To Belichick days maybe months later when they come for
- 28:39Speaker 3: the spring. You'd have all the low lights and they
- 28:42Speaker 3: won the Super Bowl and he has all the he
- 28:44Speaker 3: has it queued up for all the plays they missed
- 28:46Speaker 3: and didn't make. So I would expect that they would.
- 28:49Speaker 3: I mean I think that you kind of have to
- 28:51Speaker 3: because it's a copycat league, and like if teams watched
- 28:55Speaker 3: the Super Bowl tape, especially teams that they're going to
- 28:57Speaker 3: play early on in the season next year, before they
- 29:00Speaker 3: start to declare who this team is going to be, Like,
- 29:03Speaker 3: you're gonna see the Nickel pressure. You're gonna see you know,
- 29:06Speaker 3: the different things that Seattle did, and you're gonna have
- 29:08Speaker 3: to have answers to it. I'm sure that's what every
- 29:10Speaker 3: team's going to try to replicate against him.
- 29:12Speaker 1: I think they have to do that.
- 29:13Speaker 7: I think I don't think they can bury that game.
- 29:16Speaker 7: I think they have to use that.
- 29:17Speaker 5: Especially when you got to play Seattle and say.
- 29:20Speaker 1: If we had done this, we might have had a
- 29:22Speaker 1: different outcome.
- 29:23Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I was just thinking kind of a hypothetical.
- 29:25Speaker 10: It's like, say Drake went out against the Chargers in
- 29:29Speaker 10: the first round and it was like thirty eight thirty
- 29:32Speaker 10: five and they fell just short. Here they got upset
- 29:35Speaker 10: in the first round, but Drake threw five touchdowns and
- 29:38Speaker 10: just look lights out. They just couldn't get that, like
- 29:40Speaker 10: stop that last field goal. How much different would you
- 29:43Speaker 10: feel right now? Like you know what I mean, Like
- 29:45Speaker 10: he got to the Super Bowl, but I almost feel
- 29:48Speaker 10: like you would maybe feel in and not right or wrong,
- 29:51Speaker 10: just you probably would be even more excited about Drake
- 29:54Speaker 10: even if he hadn't won those other two playoff games,
- 29:57Speaker 10: if he had just had a great gone out on
- 29:59Speaker 10: a high note like he most of the season. I
- 30:01Speaker 10: know there were a lot of factors with that, but
- 30:03Speaker 10: I just think we sometimes lose sight of the fact
- 30:05Speaker 10: that the kid went to the Super Bowl. I know
- 30:07Speaker 10: it wasn't pretty, you know, getting there, and there are
- 30:09Speaker 10: certainly challenges that he had to go through, and I
- 30:11Speaker 10: think that experience will help him a lot.
- 30:13Speaker 5: But I also think.
- 30:14Speaker 10: Like if we just ended that season and he had
- 30:16Speaker 10: gone out and kind of finished it like he did
- 30:18Speaker 10: and we didn't want to, like, you probably would be
- 30:20Speaker 10: even more excited. And I think that's the level of
- 30:22Speaker 10: excitement that that you should have right now for him
- 30:24Speaker 10: coming into this year. Be excited, well, you know what
- 30:27Speaker 10: I mean, Like, like, I think it's tempered a little
- 30:29Speaker 10: bit based on you know, and maybe just because.
- 30:31Speaker 8: Of the how could we be tempered when we have
- 30:33Speaker 8: you exactly, Paul, And that's why I'm.
- 30:37Speaker 10: You know what I mean, Like coming out of the
- 30:39Speaker 10: Super Bowl, it's like like, think about the Drake may
- 30:42Speaker 10: hype training in mid November when he's you know, MVP,
- 30:45Speaker 10: Like literally we're arguing for him to be the MVP
- 30:47Speaker 10: of the league, versus those three playoff games where, you know,
- 30:52Speaker 10: especially the last two where it just you know, he
- 30:54Speaker 10: didn't really do much and the offense didn't too much.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Should we be at all concerned about the shoulder not anymore? No,
- 31:01Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 31:01Speaker 10: I mean, I think you're always concerned about quarterbacks getting hurt,
- 31:04Speaker 10: and I'm.
- 31:05Speaker 12: Not concerned about any of this.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I'm not concerned about the shoulder at all.
- 31:08Speaker 8: I mean, I think if he if it was something significant,
- 31:11Speaker 8: he would have had surgery on it.
- 31:13Speaker 4: I think, like it's not.
- 31:14Speaker 5: Like we shoulder separation.
- 31:16Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't think it's anything that would linger into
- 31:18Speaker 8: the season. I have mild concern about some of the
- 31:22Speaker 8: stuff that Mike talked about in terms of how much
- 31:26Speaker 8: was the drop off in the playoffs related to just
- 31:31Speaker 8: competition and how much of it was related to hard
- 31:34Speaker 8: to parse it. Those defenses were really good, yep, you know,
- 31:37Speaker 8: and you don't face a lot of defenses that that
- 31:40Speaker 8: are that good. So I expect him to bounce right
- 31:43Speaker 8: back and be where he was, if not better, that's
- 31:47Speaker 8: you know, Yeah.
- 31:47Speaker 3: I just think the playoffs, but I just think the
- 31:50Speaker 3: playoffs in general, in all sports, they are kind of
- 31:52Speaker 3: a different animal. Like that was his first taste of
- 31:55Speaker 3: playoff football, and the fact is that because they got
- 32:00Speaker 3: breaks and the defense and this and that, they ended
- 32:02Speaker 3: up winning anyways in spite of it.
- 32:04Speaker 12: But like justin Herbert still trying to do it.
- 32:07Speaker 4: Well, let me say say, last way.
- 32:09Speaker 8: So like if they had played Buffalo in the playoffs
- 32:13Speaker 8: and they lost thirty eight thirty five, I wouldn't have
- 32:17Speaker 8: a similar kind of you know, but if they had
- 32:19Speaker 8: lost the Buffalo in the playoffs, say, you know, six
- 32:23Speaker 8: twenty eight to sixteen, I'd be like, hmm, that's a
- 32:26Speaker 8: drop off. You know, like they didn't move the ball
- 32:29Speaker 8: and score as many points against Buffalo as they did,
- 32:32Speaker 8: say six weeks earlier, when they lost that game here
- 32:35Speaker 8: in Foxborough.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Same defense.
- 32:38Speaker 8: Yeah, it's the playoffs, But now I would have different concerns.
- 32:41Speaker 8: I look at it as the Chargers, the Texans, the Broncos,
- 32:45Speaker 8: and the Seahawks. I don't think you see that caliber
- 32:49Speaker 8: of defense every week. You could make an argument those
- 32:51Speaker 8: are the best four defenses in football last year. You know,
- 32:55Speaker 8: maybe the Patriots would have been in there as the
- 32:57Speaker 8: top five that might be the top five defenses in football.
- 33:00Speaker 4: I don't think you see that every week. Yeah, now,
- 33:02Speaker 4: but again I don't know for sure. Was it just
- 33:05Speaker 4: about the op.
- 33:09Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying in terms of the like, because
- 33:12Speaker 3: you're not going to see that every single week.
- 33:14Speaker 12: So yeah, maybe once they get.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Back to the playoffs, we might have the same questions,
- 33:19Speaker 3: but they're not going to have to face the Seattle defense.
- 33:22Speaker 1: But I want to I.
- 33:23Speaker 7: Want an offense that, you know, you don't win every
- 33:25Speaker 7: time you play the better defenses, but you have answers
- 33:28Speaker 7: for the better defense. Like the Red Stocks when they
- 33:31Speaker 7: play the other team's best pitchers, they can't hit, you know.
- 33:35Speaker 7: So I want to I want to, you know, have
- 33:38Speaker 7: success against the better defenses. Not all the time, but
- 33:42Speaker 7: you know what I'm saying.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think in sports in general, like most
- 33:46Speaker 3: of the time, the superstar athlete has failures before you
- 33:50Speaker 3: find success. And Drake may maybe kind of like stumbled
- 33:53Speaker 3: into some sick success in the playoffs by the defense
- 33:56Speaker 3: carrying them and all that kind of stuff, But most
- 33:59Speaker 3: of the time, you don't have Tom Brady who comes
- 34:02Speaker 3: in and you're one.
- 34:02Speaker 12: Of the starter wins the Super Bowl yours.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Usually you get knocked down, you get knocked down, and
- 34:07Speaker 3: then eventually you break through.
- 34:09Speaker 12: I mean, Justin Herbert and Josh Allen are still trying
- 34:11Speaker 12: to do it.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Yep.
- 34:12Speaker 3: You know, they're eight years into this thing and they
- 34:16Speaker 3: still haven't done it. Yeah, So I feel like that
- 34:20Speaker 3: was his first real taste of it. In all of them,
- 34:22Speaker 3: like Will Campbell too, you know, that was their first
- 34:24Speaker 3: real taste of Yep. When it goes up a level, yep.
- 34:28Speaker 7: Their hope is that they get more tastes. That's not
- 34:30Speaker 7: a guarantee. Yeah, all right. Eight five five Pats five
- 34:34Speaker 7: hundred is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com is
- 34:38Speaker 7: the email address Brandon writes in.
- 34:43Speaker 1: He's from Vegas.
- 34:44Speaker 7: By way of Lexington, writing to get your thoughts in
- 34:48Speaker 7: grades on the rest of the AFC East draft classes.
- 34:51Speaker 7: There seems to be a general consensus that the Patriots
- 34:53Speaker 7: went about par for course, landing a solid B in
- 34:57Speaker 7: pretty much every article I've read. I give him a
- 34:59Speaker 7: B B plus, right, sure what you guys gave him?
- 35:02Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it sounds about right.
- 35:05Speaker 1: That said.
- 35:05Speaker 7: Opinions on the other three AFC teams seem to be
- 35:09Speaker 7: all over the place. I've seen grades ranging from A
- 35:11Speaker 7: plus all the way down to C minus for each
- 35:14Speaker 7: of them.
- 35:14Speaker 8: What do you guys think I have not seen anything
- 35:16Speaker 8: other than a's for the Jets.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 8: The other two I would say were not as well
- 35:21Speaker 8: received Buffalo in Miami. But the Jets by all accounts.
- 35:25Speaker 4: I mean very well. They also had had a first
- 35:28Speaker 4: round pick. Yeah right, I mean.
- 35:29Speaker 3: That's all these grades like when you're picking, you know,
- 35:34Speaker 3: thirty first in each round versus picking where the Jets
- 35:36Speaker 3: were picking, Like, it's obviously indicative of that.
- 35:39Speaker 12: The Bills one, I think is a little controversial, you.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Know, t J.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Parker, Uh, you know, kind of similar player to Acus,
- 35:47Speaker 3: not exactly the same, similar kind of player. You know,
- 35:50Speaker 3: they didn't draft a receiver until they drafted Skyler Bell
- 35:52Speaker 3: in the fourth round, and maybe should have gone a
- 35:54Speaker 3: little bit higher. But you know, I'm kind of on
- 35:58Speaker 3: the fence about that one too. But I'm a greater
- 36:00Speaker 3: when it comes.
- 36:00Speaker 8: To I was a little surprised they waited as long
- 36:03Speaker 8: for skill guys, just you know, and then the receiver
- 36:08Speaker 8: is more of kind of what they already had.
- 36:10Speaker 4: You know, I don't think it was a bad draft
- 36:13Speaker 4: per se.
- 36:14Speaker 8: But I think I've seen some different opinions on Buffalo.
- 36:18Speaker 8: In Miami, I think the Jets did well. Now again,
- 36:22Speaker 8: it hasn't been their problem. You have that capital. I mean,
- 36:24Speaker 8: you're right, it hasn't been it's the other stuff. But
- 36:28Speaker 8: you have that capital. You should come away with some
- 36:30Speaker 8: good players that should be able to help your team
- 36:32Speaker 8: right away. You three first round picks, I would expect
- 36:34Speaker 8: those guys to play.
- 36:35Speaker 10: I think on Buffalo it felt a lot of motivated
- 36:38Speaker 10: by changing their defense and you know, needing to get
- 36:41Speaker 10: some new different pieces and know exactly how that's.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Training up for the Ohio state corner. I thought was
- 36:48Speaker 3: I'm not going to try and pronounce his name. I
- 36:50Speaker 3: thought that was kind of weird.
- 36:52Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 36:53Speaker 3: I got Bills fans mad at me about Skylar Bells.
- 36:55Speaker 3: I should probably stop talking.
- 36:57Speaker 8: I also thought it was all like, didn't they have
- 36:58Speaker 8: a lot of trade downs early again, which is und
- 37:02Speaker 8: which is what they did last year too. Like I
- 37:05Speaker 8: think they need talent. I think they need an infusion
- 37:07Speaker 8: of talent. They're not as they're not as skilled as
- 37:10Speaker 8: they've been in the Josh Allen era, and I think
- 37:13Speaker 8: much like Kansas City, i'd say the same thing.
- 37:14Speaker 4: About the Chiefs.
- 37:15Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't think they did enough to sort of
- 37:17Speaker 8: help that that talent efficiency.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Yeah, Scholar Bell is I just think an interesting player
- 37:23Speaker 3: for them, Like I can see when I watched him,
- 37:27Speaker 3: I did see like they did the Bills fans all
- 37:29Speaker 3: think he's the next Stefon Diggs, right, they see a
- 37:32Speaker 3: similar player. You could make that case, like there's shades
- 37:35Speaker 3: of that in his game. But to me, like Cleo
- 37:38Speaker 3: Shakira is a is a pure slot receiver. That's a
- 37:40Speaker 3: guy that's lining up in the slot, you know, the
- 37:43Speaker 3: vast majority of the time. I think Schylar Bell can
- 37:45Speaker 3: play off the ball a little bit and move around
- 37:47Speaker 3: a little bit more than a guy like Shakir can.
- 37:49Speaker 3: But he's not he's you know, five to eleven. You
- 37:53Speaker 3: know he's in He's got some press coverage and physicality concerns,
- 37:57Speaker 3: plus the level of competition. Like, I just didn't see
- 37:59Speaker 3: a guy that that was going to be that was
- 38:01Speaker 3: going to be really an outside the numbers receiver. Now,
- 38:04Speaker 3: maybe that's DJ Moore in there for them, you know,
- 38:07Speaker 3: don't have to be, but like it feels to me
- 38:09Speaker 3: like they kind of zoned in on like the separators
- 38:12Speaker 3: like they want you know, speed and separation, and they're
- 38:15Speaker 3: sacrificing a little bit of size and like physicality and
- 38:19Speaker 3: it's just it's just it's just interesting to me because
- 38:21Speaker 3: I feel the same way about Kansas City, and I
- 38:23Speaker 3: think it's like the the cautionary tale of the late
- 38:25Speaker 3: Brady Patriots of neither of Kansas City or Josh Allen.
- 38:30Speaker 3: They both have elite quarterbacks who are in their prime,
- 38:32Speaker 3: and the Super Bowl window is fred you know, might
- 38:35Speaker 3: not disagree, but mostly open already. But it feels like
- 38:39Speaker 3: they're kind of they're punting on trying to get the weapons,
- 38:43Speaker 3: and you know, it's it's one of those things.
- 38:45Speaker 5: I mean, Joe Burrow is lucky.
- 38:46Speaker 10: He's got you know, really good too to start with
- 38:49Speaker 10: at least, but you know, are they are they doing
- 38:51Speaker 10: a disservice to their quarterbacks at this point? And you know,
- 38:54Speaker 10: did we learn something from how it went with Brady?
- 38:56Speaker 10: Where and some of it look, you're trying, you're just
- 38:58Speaker 10: picking the wrong guys. So it's but doesn't really even
- 39:00Speaker 10: seem like they're trying to invest that capital to get them.
- 39:03Speaker 8: If you told me when they when you and I
- 39:05Speaker 8: had our original argument on Buffalo with DJ Moore. If
- 39:10Speaker 8: you had told me that DJ Moore was going to
- 39:12Speaker 8: emerge from the entirety of the off season as the
- 39:15Speaker 8: best receiver, I wouldn't have fought back, probably as much
- 39:19Speaker 8: as I did. I'm surprised that that they're content that
- 39:23Speaker 8: that's okay, we got him, you know, and Shakir is
- 39:26Speaker 8: our number one receiver in terms of volume. But I
- 39:29Speaker 8: like Khalil Shakira a lot. He's not that guy. He's
- 39:33Speaker 8: not like a number one receiver. He's yeah, he's not
- 39:36Speaker 8: dictating what the other team's got to do.
- 39:39Speaker 4: The night before.
- 39:40Speaker 8: I think the Patriots showed you that they can make
- 39:42Speaker 8: him sort of an afterthought pretty easily. Doesn't mean he's
- 39:46Speaker 8: not a good play. He still catches passes and makes
- 39:48Speaker 8: some plays, but he's not capital T capital G that guy.
- 39:52Speaker 5: Yeah, and how much can you lean into James Cook?
- 39:55Speaker 10: I mean, he was outstanding last year, but you know
- 39:57Speaker 10: it's we know running backs have a shelf life, and.
- 39:59Speaker 4: There's no not many Derek Henry's that do what every year?
- 40:02Speaker 10: Right, and he's and he's smaller than him, you know,
- 40:04Speaker 10: so I we'll see.
- 40:05Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not looking I'm not arguing that the Bill.
- 40:07Speaker 10: She was doing a great bills, but I would worry
- 40:10Speaker 10: that they're going to be I'm not.
- 40:11Speaker 4: As familiar with what exactly did they well.
- 40:13Speaker 3: So they drafted Kid and Proctor in the first round,
- 40:15Speaker 3: which I wasn't crazy about, but that and I thought
- 40:18Speaker 3: the rest of their picks were really really good. They
- 40:19Speaker 3: got drafted uh, Jacob b. Rodriguez. They drafted somebody else
- 40:24Speaker 3: on day two. I'm biking on Chris Johnson. It was
- 40:26Speaker 3: actually a late first round or cornerback from Uh. Yeah,
- 40:29Speaker 3: he's a good player. I thought they did really really well.
- 40:32Speaker 3: The Procter pick was a little bit which makes sense.
- 40:35Speaker 8: You get a new coach and half league defense or
- 40:37Speaker 8: oriented take a couple of you know, guys that should
- 40:40Speaker 8: be able to start.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Right away from you. And the receiver they took too
- 40:44Speaker 4: was Johnson.
- 40:46Speaker 3: I don't even some people had him like outside of
- 40:48Speaker 3: like the top twenty five receivers in the draft and
- 40:50Speaker 3: they drafted him in the third round.
- 40:52Speaker 5: Yeah, Douglas, Yeah, that.
- 40:54Speaker 12: One was a little bit weird.
- 40:55Speaker 5: But I just swing on Chris Bell, who we talked about.
- 40:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I kind of like I like that one.
- 40:59Speaker 8: I mean I don't I like more from I don't
- 41:00Speaker 8: like to more for a better team than Miami who
- 41:03Speaker 8: can afford to. You know, he might be able to
- 41:05Speaker 8: play this year, but if he can't, it doesn't hurt
- 41:09Speaker 8: like the Patriots or the Bills or someone like that.
- 41:14Speaker 4: But you know, Miami meets him.
- 41:16Speaker 12: They just had their roster tour down besides a chance.
- 41:19Speaker 5: So I mean three linebackers though interesting too.
- 41:22Speaker 10: You know Jacob Arriguez that Ev mentioned, but you know
- 41:24Speaker 10: Traymore and Kyle Lewis in the fourth round. Yeah, talk
- 41:27Speaker 10: about the Patriots not picking a fourth in the fourth round,
- 41:30Speaker 10: like that was the price they might have paid to
- 41:32Speaker 10: have to trade up to get Lomu and to get Ocus.
- 41:36Speaker 10: Was that we lost the fourth We lost our fourth
- 41:38Speaker 10: round picks and that's where the linebackers really went. Maybe
- 41:41Speaker 10: that was a sacrifice that unfortunately happened.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Yeah, trade Moore is kind of like a hybrid, like
- 41:45Speaker 3: you can play on or off the line of scrimmage.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Lewis is a nickel slash say little like kind of
- 41:51Speaker 3: different too. And then Rodriguez Mike, you know, he's going
- 41:55Speaker 3: to be a classic Mike.
- 41:56Speaker 12: I know.
- 41:56Speaker 3: With the Bills, I wonder Casey Concepcion went a couple
- 41:59Speaker 3: of picks ahead of them, and they traded out of
- 42:00Speaker 3: the round.
- 42:01Speaker 12: So I wonder if.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Then they then they went and had and drafted Skyler Bell,
- 42:05Speaker 3: who's kind of like discount Casey concept. So I kind
- 42:09Speaker 3: of wonder if maybe they were hoping that Casey C
- 42:13Speaker 3: was going to fall to them, and then when he didn't,
- 42:14Speaker 3: they got it a dodge. Because I thought they were
- 42:16Speaker 3: going to take a receiver at the top of Day.
- 42:19Speaker 8: Two, thought they would be taking an early receiver, whether
- 42:23Speaker 8: it be the first or second round.
- 42:24Speaker 4: I thought for sure they would add one.
- 42:26Speaker 3: But I just wonder if maybe once they got to
- 42:27Speaker 3: that point, it was kind of like Denzel Boston, it
- 42:30Speaker 3: wasn't there wasn't that separator that they seemed to be
- 42:33Speaker 3: gravitating towards.
- 42:34Speaker 12: So maybe they just set our guys in here.
- 42:37Speaker 14: You know.
- 42:38Speaker 10: The another team I want to bring up is just
- 42:39Speaker 10: the Browns, who I heard a lot of people praising.
- 42:41Speaker 10: I mean, of all the guys we talked about this
- 42:43Speaker 10: whole process, I feel like the Browns just have like
- 42:45Speaker 10: a bunch of the guys you know that we took.
- 42:47Speaker 10: We know they got lot a long way to go,
- 42:49Speaker 10: but they got conceptcy on. They've got Boston Fan the
- 42:53Speaker 10: other the other quarterbacks, ten quarterbacks. They got Daylen Green too,
- 42:57Speaker 10: you know, Joe Royer who's big, tough tight end, Justin
- 43:00Speaker 10: Jefferson the linebacker, and Austin Barber who who we both
- 43:03Speaker 10: really like. We talked about him a lot of tackle.
- 43:05Speaker 10: Luca maybe move around. So I don't know. I mean
- 43:07Speaker 10: the Browns, they've had talent before.
- 43:08Speaker 8: And never work out draft exercises. Fred And this is
- 43:12Speaker 8: not directed at YouTube. It could be if you wanted to. Yeah,
- 43:15Speaker 8: guys tend to love drafts that are filled with players
- 43:19Speaker 8: that they love.
- 43:20Speaker 5: Yeah, sure, because they're familiar, you.
- 43:23Speaker 8: Know what I mean.
- 43:24Speaker 12: Yeah, have an eye for this.
- 43:26Speaker 8: You know, I I loved him, you know, I would
- 43:30Speaker 8: have thought he made a lot of sense for the
- 43:31Speaker 8: Patriots in round two. And you know, then someone takes
- 43:34Speaker 8: him and they automatically had a good draft, right, they
- 43:36Speaker 8: took a guy.
- 43:36Speaker 4: But this feeds into the uh.
- 43:38Speaker 5: I don't know if you.
- 43:38Speaker 10: Guys have noticed, there's like a debate on social.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Media about talk about this.
- 43:43Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, it's like the media consensus big board
- 43:46Speaker 10: is not the same as the team's consensus.
- 43:47Speaker 12: Big teams don't have consensus.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Different but so there's been like study is just a
- 43:56Speaker 3: cliff notes version of this. There's a media consensus board
- 44:00Speaker 3: that takes all of the Daniel Jeremiahs and the Dame
- 44:02Speaker 3: Bruglers and the Melkipers, and they put evan all of
- 44:06Speaker 3: those boards into one consensus board to get a general
- 44:11Speaker 3: idea of where the media sees all these guys. And
- 44:14Speaker 3: then the league obviously all thirty two teams have a
- 44:17Speaker 3: different board because there's different they have different parameters, different schemes,
- 44:20Speaker 3: different whatever, so they have all different boards. And so
- 44:24Speaker 3: the league people are pushing back on the media people saying, well,
- 44:27Speaker 3: we can't just do a blanket consensus because we have
- 44:31Speaker 3: different you know, each team has different you know, archetypes
- 44:34Speaker 3: of molds of players that we're looking for, so it
- 44:37Speaker 3: doesn't work that way. But then the media is pushing
- 44:39Speaker 3: back and saying, well, if we look at the different
- 44:43Speaker 3: ways we can evaluate players, just in terms of you know,
- 44:46Speaker 3: analytics and stuff like that, we actually can see that
- 44:49Speaker 3: the media consensus board, especially in the top one hundred,
- 44:53Speaker 3: actually does better than the league. Now, once you get
- 44:56Speaker 3: out of the top one hundred the first three rounds,
- 44:58Speaker 3: the league does well, much much better. But that's because
- 45:01Speaker 3: they have all the information and all the time that
- 45:04Speaker 3: you know, the media doesn't have on Day three. So
- 45:07Speaker 3: the media does at least as good as the league
- 45:11Speaker 3: in the top half of the draft. So there's a
- 45:13Speaker 3: lot of back and forth right now on the value
- 45:16Speaker 3: of consensus boards and does it actually matter because all
- 45:19Speaker 3: these grades that you come out of the draft are
- 45:21Speaker 3: mostly based off of what you thought about the players
- 45:24Speaker 3: before the draft. So if you're gonna give a team
- 45:27Speaker 3: an A because they drafted on consensus, but then you're
- 45:30Speaker 3: gonna give a team an F because they reach, Like
- 45:32Speaker 3: the Niners are getting killed for drafting guys well above
- 45:36Speaker 3: where everybody had them projected. But you know, who knows,
- 45:39Speaker 3: maybe they're going to be right and Stribbling is going
- 45:41Speaker 3: to be a star, and you know everybody was too
- 45:43Speaker 3: low on them.
- 45:44Speaker 7: Well, it would kind of make sense to me that
- 45:46Speaker 7: the media consensus board would do better, you know, because
- 45:50Speaker 7: the like you said, the team one is so specific.
- 45:53Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Right.
- 45:55Speaker 8: So one of the things that I saw about this
- 45:57Speaker 8: was some pushback, and I forget who it was. It
- 46:00Speaker 8: may have been Joe Banner, one of those types like
- 46:05Speaker 8: an x GM not still in the league, pushing back
- 46:08Speaker 8: that like sort of the consensus board doesn't exist, Like
- 46:12Speaker 8: teams don't, right, you know, teams have their consensus boards,
- 46:16Speaker 8: but they don't look at like there's not a consensus
- 46:20Speaker 8: board that like, you know, John Lynch is looking at
- 46:22Speaker 8: and saying, yeah, I know that this guy is seventy
- 46:26Speaker 8: on the consensus.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Board, but we have him at twenty and we're going
- 46:29Speaker 4: to take him.
- 46:30Speaker 8: This guy, I think it was Joe Banner, who was
- 46:33Speaker 8: former of the Browns Eagles. He's been around. He claimed
- 46:37Speaker 8: that that really doesn't exist. And then there was some
- 46:40Speaker 8: data that showed the teams that reach the furthest as
- 46:44Speaker 8: Evan was explaining, from the consensus board are the ones
- 46:48Speaker 8: that ultimately do the worst in the draft. And it's
- 46:51Speaker 8: kind of been proven over the last handful of years
- 46:54Speaker 8: when you do that, when you take a consensus board,
- 46:58Speaker 8: that's it's strict numbers, it's not opinion, right, it's there's
- 47:03Speaker 8: a consensus board that has this guy at seventy five
- 47:05Speaker 8: and you took him at thirty. So like that's forty
- 47:09Speaker 8: five spots difference. Like that's a big gap. Yeah, and
- 47:15Speaker 8: do you then go from that and then say, Okay,
- 47:18Speaker 8: that guy ends up not working out that's what happens
- 47:21Speaker 8: when you reach that much. And that was sort of
- 47:23Speaker 8: the takeaway that I was reading, and I was really
- 47:26Speaker 8: interested in it because it.
- 47:27Speaker 4: Was good back and forth.
- 47:28Speaker 8: Well, I think the interesting good pettiness by the x
- 47:30Speaker 8: NFL guys, good you know, good defensiveness by the event
- 47:34Speaker 8: types that were backing up the media.
- 47:36Speaker 3: I think the part about it too that the media
- 47:38Speaker 3: is the argument the media is trying to make on
- 47:40Speaker 3: top of just the evaluation part is you know, how
- 47:44Speaker 3: you're using your resources, Like so if the consensus is
- 47:47Speaker 3: that this player is actually going to go at one
- 47:51Speaker 3: twenty five, but you took him at thirty five, well
- 47:54Speaker 3: could you have had that.
- 47:56Speaker 12: Player and another player at thirty five?
- 47:58Speaker 1: Right? Right?
- 47:59Speaker 4: Which is always my argument with Bill.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Right, So it's you know, evaluating sort of like the
- 48:06Speaker 3: cost effectiveness of that pick. So, you know, the Niners
- 48:09Speaker 3: the last couple of years have not drafted particularly well,
- 48:12Speaker 3: and they're getting killed by the general media for reaching
- 48:16Speaker 3: on picks like Stribbling was the tough first pick of
- 48:18Speaker 3: the second round. Most people had him in like the
- 48:21Speaker 3: middle of the draft, and they took him as the
- 48:24Speaker 3: first pick of the second round, the thirty third pick
- 48:26Speaker 3: in the draft, so that that's really what it comes
- 48:29Speaker 3: down to, is okay, well, you could you have pickn
- 48:31Speaker 3: somebody more on consensus at thirty three and still gotten
- 48:35Speaker 3: your guy stribbling in the third round.
- 48:36Speaker 8: To put it and you would have had both to
- 48:38Speaker 8: bring it home for the Patriots. Go to is it
- 48:40Speaker 8: twenty two with Cole Strange? Yeah, you know, you could
- 48:44Speaker 8: have taken someone at twenty two and gotten cold Strange
- 48:47Speaker 8: in the third fourth round if you believe the or
- 48:52Speaker 8: or even the.
- 48:52Speaker 7: Second board isn't worried about losing out on a guy
- 48:56Speaker 7: we really like, you know, like what team board is,
- 49:01Speaker 7: what are they gonna do? Do we have to move
- 49:03Speaker 7: up here to get our guy because we think another
- 49:06Speaker 7: team's you know, like so they're they're thinking about things
- 49:09Speaker 7: that the media consensus board may not be thinking.
- 49:12Speaker 3: I mean, and there's no doubt that we were, like
- 49:14Speaker 3: we don't have skin in the game like they do.
- 49:16Speaker 3: So like if a GM drafts bad over the series
- 49:19Speaker 3: of a couple of drafts, they're gonna get fired. If
- 49:21Speaker 3: a media person has a bad couple of drafts, they're
- 49:23Speaker 3: not gonna.
- 49:24Speaker 8: Lose their job there And maybe like that and they
- 49:28Speaker 8: don't work out, I just come to the draft the
- 49:30Speaker 8: next year.
- 49:31Speaker 3: I think that pressure is a big difference right of
- 49:34Speaker 3: getting it right. And what Fred's talking about is if
- 49:36Speaker 3: you risk losing the guy, then if you lose him
- 49:39Speaker 3: and then he goes on to be a superstar, then
- 49:42Speaker 3: that's gonna be held against you.
- 49:43Speaker 7: Eight five five past five hundred is the hotline. Let's
- 49:46Speaker 7: go to it. Sabbah is in North Carolina.
- 49:48Speaker 15: What's up, hey there, gentlemen. It's so nice to hear
- 49:53Speaker 15: your voices and see you guys on the TV. I
- 49:56Speaker 15: can't I hate that I haven't been calling in. I
- 49:58Speaker 15: keep missing it, you know, and I get busy and
- 50:00Speaker 15: I get my meetings and everything. So I just wanting
- 50:02Speaker 15: to give a shout out to you guys.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 50:04Speaker 15: Let's say that y'all do a great job, appreciate that.
- 50:08Speaker 15: I have a couple of concerns. I'm so excited about
- 50:11Speaker 15: the season, first of all, and it is true. There's
- 50:13Speaker 15: two seasons. There's football season and then there's waiting.
- 50:16Speaker 4: For football seasons, so that is absolutely true.
- 50:19Speaker 15: The second thing is I am worried about the Patriots, obviously,
- 50:24Speaker 15: my guy Drake May. I'm worried two things. Is the
- 50:28Speaker 15: offensive coordinator going to adjust the offense to fit him more.
- 50:33Speaker 15: In other words, he's not Tom Brady. He doesn't just
- 50:35Speaker 15: sit back there like a statue. He needs to move around.
- 50:39Speaker 15: And Drake needs to stop going deep on every plate. Okay,
- 50:42Speaker 15: it's like he wants to play the hard eight every time.
- 50:45Speaker 15: He does the craps, and you gotta do the Pennis
- 50:47Speaker 15: line once in a while, dunk and dunk. That's what
- 50:50Speaker 15: happened to him in the playoffs. He wasn't dnking and
- 50:52Speaker 15: dunking enough, and he was holding the ball, not having
- 50:54Speaker 15: the line to protect him, looking deep, and then he'd
- 50:56Speaker 15: gets back. So I will those two things hopefully will
- 51:00Speaker 15: improved this year. Then my second concern is everybody else.
- 51:05Speaker 15: I mean, you still got San Diego. The Raiders aren't
- 51:08Speaker 15: gonna suck part, but they got Kirk Cousins. Now he's
- 51:10Speaker 15: gonna have Buffalo Steel, Jacksonville, Jexan. Uh, Cincinnati's gonna be
- 51:15Speaker 15: back because I don't think Burl's gonna be hurt all
- 51:17Speaker 15: year again. You've got the Colt Dale Jones. His ankle
- 51:21Speaker 15: is probably gonna be better. Now, Like, where is the
- 51:23Speaker 15: spot for the Patriots to actually win games that are
- 51:26Speaker 15: quote you know, Cloud of Guineas. They're easy besides the
- 51:29Speaker 15: Jets in Miami. So I'm really worried that just by attrition,
- 51:33Speaker 15: there's not gonna be room for the Patient to even
- 51:35Speaker 15: make the playoffs, even if they're not a worse team.
- 51:38Speaker 7: No, I hear you, there's no doubt the schedule is
- 51:41Speaker 7: gonna be tougher. These other teams, you know, you're judging
- 51:44Speaker 7: by how they were last year, and maybe they'll be
- 51:46Speaker 7: a little better.
- 51:47Speaker 1: But maybe, but the Patriots are.
- 51:48Speaker 7: Gonna have to be a little bit better too if
- 51:50Speaker 7: they if they don't get better, then yeah, you're right,
- 51:54Speaker 7: they're there.
- 51:55Speaker 8: How many times you want to hear if he'll say it,
- 51:56Speaker 8: If you're not getting better, you're getting worse.
- 51:59Speaker 1: But but what if what if? What if?
- 52:03Speaker 7: What if in your first part of your call, What
- 52:06Speaker 7: if Josh McDaniels does adjust, What if they move that pocket,
- 52:09Speaker 7: What if they take advantage of Drake? What if he
- 52:11Speaker 7: starts to take a little bit more underneath to answer
- 52:14Speaker 7: when pressure comes. Now all of a sudden, to me,
- 52:19Speaker 7: that's a big leap for the offense.
- 52:21Speaker 1: And now you're competing with those teams that you just talked.
- 52:24Speaker 15: About and those pass rushers. Then you gotta fight. They're
- 52:28Speaker 15: gonna get tired. Now, they're gonna get tired of hope
- 52:30Speaker 15: to god, their cannibell is better.
- 52:31Speaker 7: I'm going, yeah, so you're winning the game in the
- 52:33Speaker 7: fourth quarter because they're tired.
- 52:36Speaker 15: Yeah, exactly. I me one more comment. You guys were
- 52:39Speaker 15: talking about reaching for draft picks. I don't believe in that.
- 52:43Speaker 15: To me, if I get a pair of pants that
- 52:45Speaker 15: fit me and they're expensive.
- 52:47Speaker 12: I buy the suckers.
- 52:48Speaker 15: I have no need to get a pair of pants
- 52:49Speaker 15: and don't fit that are cheap. So to me, if
- 52:52Speaker 15: I want a guy, I'm gonna get him. I don't
- 52:53Speaker 15: care what a round it is. He's there and I
- 52:55Speaker 15: want him, I'm gonna get him because.
- 52:58Speaker 1: By Ones, cry Ones.
- 52:59Speaker 3: If you buy a pair of pants and they're not
- 53:01Speaker 3: good pants, if you buy the cut off the Kyang,
- 53:07Speaker 3: well they might want but what you go, You wear
- 53:09Speaker 3: them once and they.
- 53:11Speaker 12: Rink where we'd all be much better at this.
- 53:21Speaker 4: I just don't think there's a lot of examples of
- 53:22Speaker 4: teams to say.
- 53:23Speaker 8: You know what, I didn't really want to pick Mike
- 53:25Speaker 8: do so, but you know I did, Like, if you
- 53:28Speaker 8: pick a guy, can we just operate under the general
- 53:30Speaker 8: assumption that you like them.
- 53:32Speaker 12: I hope so.
- 53:33Speaker 8: I mean, I'm not telling you that every pick is
- 53:35Speaker 8: the same. You know you don't like every single pick
- 53:38Speaker 8: the same. There's some guys that the entirety of your
- 53:41Speaker 8: organization is one thousand percent on board. They love Drake May.
- 53:44Speaker 8: They're going to take Drake May with a third pick,
- 53:46Speaker 8: and everybody's in agreement. There are other guys that I'm
- 53:48Speaker 8: sure there's disagreements on, but I don't think there are
- 53:51Speaker 8: a lot of guys that the team just looks and says,
- 53:54Speaker 8: I don't want to take this.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Guy, but we got to take somebody, take them like.
- 53:58Speaker 4: I don't think that happens.
- 54:00Speaker 8: Yeah, there's got to be something about the player that
- 54:02Speaker 8: attracted you to them, right to take them?
- 54:04Speaker 1: Right? Yeah?
- 54:05Speaker 7: Now, all right, time for break. When we come back.
- 54:09Speaker 7: We got a lot of emails. There's some good ones
- 54:11Speaker 7: coming in. I'm just scanning through good stuff. We got
- 54:14Speaker 7: more calls. Everyone's excited.

- 56:40Speaker 4: How do you think the draft has gone so far?
- 56:43Speaker 6: Draft's gone great.
- 56:44Speaker 20: Look, it's always an exciting time of the year, and
- 56:47Speaker 20: it's been a pretty exciting couple of days. Every draft's unique,
- 56:51Speaker 20: and so this one's had its own unique appeal and situations.
- 56:56Speaker 6: So it's been fun.
- 56:57Speaker 20: You never really know what to expect, and that's that's
- 56:59Speaker 20: kind of the unique fun part about it.
- 57:02Speaker 21: Ryan, last time we heard from Mike, he had shared
- 57:03Speaker 21: that he would be in communication with you guys, and
- 57:05Speaker 21: ESPN ted today that communication has been constant. Can you
- 57:08Speaker 21: just describe what it's been like and what it's done
- 57:11Speaker 21: for the room to still be in touch with Mike
- 57:14Speaker 21: during the draft today.
- 57:16Speaker 20: Yeah, our focus, you know, Mike in the organization put
- 57:19Speaker 20: out statements about you know, Mike's situation and our support
- 57:23Speaker 20: of Mike, and I would just say everything we've done
- 57:26Speaker 20: up to this point, our preparation for the draft, has
- 57:29Speaker 20: allowed us to operate in a manner just as.
- 57:31Speaker 6: Normally as we would.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Next question Doug Kaide.
- 57:38Speaker 6: Here Ran, thanks for doing this.
- 57:40Speaker 4: I wanted to ask about Demetrius crown Over.
- 57:42Speaker 22: He guys view him as a right tackle only do
- 57:45Speaker 22: you think you can move around the offensive line at all.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Just how do you view his his flexibility?
- 57:51Speaker 20: Sure, Demetrius is it was a massive individual. You know,
- 57:55Speaker 20: he's got great link. He really has some pretty natural
- 58:00Speaker 20: pass probability. I think ideally you know, with his with
- 58:03Speaker 20: his size, I mean both tackle positions. Inevitably the tackle
- 58:08Speaker 20: position is it becomes left and right and your ability
- 58:12Speaker 20: to play both sides. And I think we think the
- 58:14Speaker 20: Mets can can contribute on both sides of the tackle position.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 58:22Speaker 2: Next question, Mark Daniels O.
- 58:25Speaker 23: Hey, Ryan, this is the second straight here you guys
- 58:27Speaker 23: have drafted two tackles. It's my first question is just
- 58:31Speaker 23: can you go into detail from your experience and how
- 58:33Speaker 23: difficult it is to find young, quality tackles and how
- 58:36Speaker 23: much does that put into you guys being aggressive the
- 58:38Speaker 23: last two years in the draft.
- 58:42Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's a great point.
- 58:43Speaker 20: And it is a premium position in our league and
- 58:47Speaker 20: the pool of players that can play the position is
- 58:50Speaker 20: relatively small and you can never have enough depth. I
- 58:53Speaker 20: think there and the instance we want to talk about,
- 58:56Speaker 20: or that we do talk about in protecting the quarterback,
- 58:59Speaker 20: it's starts up front, and we've talked about that. I
- 59:02Speaker 20: think a year ago, we talked about a little bit
- 59:03Speaker 20: of an inside out mentality, and uh, you know, it's
- 59:07Speaker 20: when we see talent at the tackle position, I think
- 59:09Speaker 20: we're always going to look to add that.
- 59:11Speaker 18: Uh.
- 59:12Speaker 6: As I mentioned.
- 59:12Speaker 20: Before, we we kind of always look in free agency
- 59:17Speaker 20: in every avenue to try to build the offensive line.
- 59:20Speaker 20: And Demetrius presented it hisself, you know tonight when we're
- 59:24Speaker 20: in the draft. It was just a value of a
- 59:26Speaker 20: player that we thought we wanted to add into the RUNO.
- 59:29Speaker 2: Thank you, next question and steel.
- 59:34Speaker 22: Brian, thanks for doing this. Uh one more about Mike Rabel.
- 59:39Speaker 22: Is he on a call throughout the entire day with
- 59:42Speaker 22: the draft? Is he chiming in from time to time?
- 59:45Speaker 22: Just a little more specifics as to his involvement today.
- 59:49Speaker 6: Sure, I think as.
- 59:50Speaker 20: I stayed already, you know, obviously his pumple knowledge that
- 59:54Speaker 20: Mike was not going to be uh here today, that's
- 59:56Speaker 20: that's been stated.
- 59:57Speaker 6: And as far as his interactions, I think that's part
- 59:59Speaker 6: of the up that we.
- 1:00:00Speaker 20: Would keep internal here about about how today operated and
- 1:00:04Speaker 20: and how we were able to But we were fully
- 1:00:06Speaker 20: confident that with all the work that we've done and
- 1:00:08Speaker 20: and all the preparation that he's aided in throughout today
- 1:00:13Speaker 20: that we knew today would be able to operate in
- 1:00:15Speaker 20: a in a manner that we can help build his
- 1:00:18Speaker 20: vision this football team.
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: And I know he we had. He has our full
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: support as well as he has ours.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Next question, Sophie Weller, Hi Ran, thank you so much
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: for doing this. I'm just curious with your last pick.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Know that linebacker was a need for you guys going
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: in to add some more depth there.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: What was it about Nomdi that stood out?
- 1:00:46Speaker 20: You know what Namdi he's you know, he's got an
- 1:00:49Speaker 20: interesting story, started out at Iowa Western, and.
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: You know it's really worked his way into a good player.
- 1:00:55Speaker 20: TCU and he was at to see your Bowl and
- 1:00:58Speaker 20: really good testing numbers and and I think as we
- 1:01:00Speaker 20: looked at it, and we evaluate these guys from a
- 1:01:02Speaker 20: couple of different angles, from defensive perspective of special teams,
- 1:01:07Speaker 20: especially on the third day, you know, our special teams
- 1:01:10Speaker 20: coaches took a look and had a lot of positives
- 1:01:13Speaker 20: to say about non these projections as a special teams player,
- 1:01:17Speaker 20: and that's important at the linebacker position, as you know,
- 1:01:20Speaker 20: And so we.
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: Thought he fit the profile of that and we're excited
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: to work with it.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Next question Alex spov.
- 1:01:29Speaker 13: Hey, Ryan, thank you for doing this. You guys talked
- 1:01:32Speaker 13: a lot about versatility. I'm curious with Koran Prunty. Do
- 1:01:35Speaker 13: you guys see any safety versatility with him or is
- 1:01:37Speaker 13: he somebody you just see playing cornerback?
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:01:41Speaker 20: I think those things always will kind of bear them,
- 1:01:43Speaker 20: you know, play out as the as the players get here.
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: And I would like to put too many expectations on a.
- 1:01:49Speaker 20: Player being able to multiple roles or you know, down
- 1:01:52Speaker 20: the road stuff. But with Koran, he's a player that
- 1:01:54Speaker 20: was really intriguing us to us because of his his
- 1:01:57Speaker 20: linked his speed. He's an aggressive player again, has an
- 1:02:01Speaker 20: interesting story starting out in Kansas and he you know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 20: went to North Carolin it for a minute, and then
- 1:02:08Speaker 20: at Wake Forest and you know, we brought Kron in
- 1:02:10Speaker 20: on a on a thirty visit.
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: He did a great job with our coaching staff.
- 1:02:13Speaker 20: He he really represented himself in a in a really
- 1:02:16Speaker 20: professional manner and we're excited to bring his skill set
- 1:02:20Speaker 20: at the perimeter corner and where he goes from there.
- 1:02:23Speaker 20: I think that will just be once we get on
- 1:02:24Speaker 20: the grass and start to make those But I think
- 1:02:26Speaker 20: ideal with you, right, now you know he's competing at
- 1:02:28Speaker 20: the corner position.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Next question, Greg.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: The don.
- 1:02:37Speaker 24: Hey, Ryan, just hoping you could help me sort of
- 1:02:42Speaker 24: slot out. It seems like you guys are really heavy
- 1:02:44Speaker 24: at tackle now, like is James Hudson gonna be inside?
- 1:02:49Speaker 24: You know, just sort of you know where you sort
- 1:02:51Speaker 24: of slot in those guys.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Is low moot?
- 1:02:53Speaker 24: Now with the kron over here? Is is Lomo going
- 1:02:55Speaker 24: to work more left tackle?
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: To start?
- 1:02:57Speaker 24: It just seems like it's a crowded tackle room at
- 1:03:00Speaker 24: the moment.
- 1:03:01Speaker 20: Sure, if I would want a room to be crowded,
- 1:03:04Speaker 20: I'll I'll take that as being one room that's crowded,
- 1:03:07Speaker 20: just based off all we talked about before and how
- 1:03:10Speaker 20: hard it is to find, you know, tackles in the
- 1:03:13Speaker 20: in the.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: National Football League. You know again, a.
- 1:03:16Speaker 20: Little bit of that was just trusting in the in
- 1:03:19Speaker 20: the board when we get to areas on the draft
- 1:03:21Speaker 20: and we have players valued.
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: In certain ranges, and you know.
- 1:03:25Speaker 20: What, that one we leaned into a guy who between
- 1:03:28Speaker 20: where we had things stacked, he was one of the
- 1:03:30Speaker 20: better players remaining on our board. So there was a
- 1:03:32Speaker 20: value there. We don't ever know what's going to happen tomorrow,
- 1:03:35Speaker 20: the next day. So that's why you stick to a
- 1:03:38Speaker 20: concept of the best player available when you pick. Even
- 1:03:41Speaker 20: if it if it today looks crowded, that's not going
- 1:03:44Speaker 20: to maybe be the same in a week or two weeks.
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: Or by the time to get the train camp.
- 1:03:47Speaker 20: So that's kind of the situation there, Greg is you know,
- 1:03:50Speaker 20: those guys going the room and compete, and when you
- 1:03:53Speaker 20: take the best player, sometimes it may look crowded on
- 1:03:55Speaker 20: the front.
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: End, but those tend those tend to have a way
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: of working.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: Out and now great moments in.
- 1:04:04Speaker 25: History.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: But Fred would tastes better a tender or a wing.
- 1:04:08Speaker 26: A wing if it's done right because the skin is
- 1:04:11Speaker 26: still on it and it's fried.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: And you know it's all from one check. I think
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: I think the bone gives an extra flavor. I don't
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: know why.
- 1:04:17Speaker 26: Well, it's the fat from the skin that gives it
- 1:04:20Speaker 26: the flavor, you know, I.
- 1:04:21Speaker 8: Like the bone in But there's times that, hey, I'm
- 1:04:25Speaker 8: perfectly satisfied.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: With my tenders, right, like when we do it right
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: here right, because.
- 1:04:29Speaker 8: I don't want to be eating wings and making a
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: mess as I'm trying to yell at college but telling
- 1:04:33Speaker 8: me that I call Belichick a mediocre coach.
- 1:04:35Speaker 26: You know it's on your face, but it's also all
- 1:04:37Speaker 26: in your fingers, and you know experience. So when I
- 1:04:41Speaker 26: wings at home, after it's done, I just put my
- 1:04:44Speaker 26: hand out.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: My dog cleans my.
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: Finger, just hangs his hand off the throat.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: You fat bastard.
- 1:04:51Speaker 26: You can't even drop them wash your own hands immediately
- 1:04:54Speaker 26: watching TV.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Let the dog do the.
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: Work, my god, not yet, not, you can't.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: The stork you know he likes it. You know it's
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: win win for both of them.
- 1:05:04Speaker 10: Spicy forms.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: That came a little story.
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: That's another great moment.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: I don't understand why that's such a big deal.
- 1:05:13Speaker 12: I don't know anyway, can't be good for the dog,
- 1:05:15Speaker 12: all right?
- 1:05:15Speaker 7: A five five past five hundred is the hotline podcast
- 1:05:18Speaker 7: at Patriots dot com. Is the email address. Lots of
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: emails and phone calls. Let's go to the phones. Todd
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: is North Carolina. What's up Todd?
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: Todd? Todd is gone.
- 1:05:33Speaker 7: Todd had to get back to work. Sam's in North Carolina.
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: We've had three North Carolina calls in the world.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: What's up? Sam is gone? All right? What's up?
- 1:05:46Speaker 14: Sam? I just wanted to reiterate what I really feel.
- 1:05:52Speaker 14: What Drake may masters the system and learned to take
- 1:05:55Speaker 14: the pro We have this problem.
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: He just hung out.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Wait what happened? All right, the moment the I t guy, I.
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: Got to the bottom of it.
- 1:06:09Speaker 7: Jail Ben in Hershey, Pennsylvania writes, and over the past
- 1:06:13Speaker 7: few years, I've created an annual ritual of sorts where
- 1:06:16Speaker 7: I watched the live network draft coverage and then listen
- 1:06:19Speaker 7: back to the Patriots dot Com coverage a day or
- 1:06:22Speaker 7: two later. Knowing who the picks were makes the late
- 1:06:25Speaker 7: listen even more exciting as I anxiously await the panel's reaction.
- 1:06:29Speaker 7: I can almost smell Deuce sweating through my headphones each
- 1:06:32Speaker 7: time an edge defender got picked in the second round,
- 1:06:35Speaker 7: knowing the whole time that Acus would.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Be his new guy.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: All that being said, the best part of this routine
- 1:06:42Speaker 7: is the comic relief provided by some of the sound bites.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: For example, I.
- 1:06:46Speaker 7: Don't think they like you like Rarenon, Maybe they like
- 1:06:49Speaker 7: Eli Rerenon, probably not. Or Paul's bemoaning the prospect of
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: them trading up in the first for an ot who
- 1:06:55Speaker 7: won't play his rookie year before the trade has even
- 1:06:57Speaker 7: been made. Then he talks himself into the I can
- 1:07:00Speaker 7: see it once the pick is in. I told my
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: wife that it's like watching Dame of Thrones. It's like
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: watching Game of Thrones with someone who's never seen it,
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: while I know the entire story and I get to
- 1:07:10Speaker 7: enjoy their reactions. They called me a loser anyway. Please
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: don't take this as criticism. Anyone who expects you all
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: to get the picks right every time doesn't understand ball.
- 1:07:22Speaker 12: So thank you well.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: I think we were right that the ELI reared in
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: one did not sound like that was universally right.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: Rita was heard from Ryan Cowden moments ago.
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: I think healthy debate.
- 1:07:35Speaker 8: ELI, I mean Elliott Wolf, and I think they had
- 1:07:38Speaker 8: sort of admitted there was some healthy debate. And I
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: don't take any offense at all because I did that.
- 1:07:43Speaker 8: I did exactly what the emailer said. I was like,
- 1:07:45Speaker 8: I don't really want to trade up for a guy
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: who's a left tackle and this kind of insurance who's
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: going to red shirt a year and then give up
- 1:07:54Speaker 8: resources to do it. And then they did it, and
- 1:07:55Speaker 8: I was like, I understand, I can see what they did.
- 1:07:58Speaker 8: That's totally what I did that.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: I think that's the hardest part that I have with
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: the pick. It's not necessarily Caleb Lomu. It's just the
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: process of you trade it up for a tackle that's
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: gonna red shirt and you just drafted a tackle two
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: years in a row now, and it just that piece
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: of it. I'm just not But I also look at
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: the board and I'm like, all right, well, what else
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: were you really going to do?
- 1:08:19Speaker 12: I know in that spot?
- 1:08:21Speaker 7: So I understand the immediacy of it. He's not going
- 1:08:23Speaker 7: to play right away, hopefully because Morgan is here.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: But you can't.
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: Complain about you need to protect Drake May and Morgan's
- 1:08:31Speaker 7: not going to be here forever.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: And then you address it and then you complain like, well,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: I'm like, I get it.
- 1:08:39Speaker 7: I really think this guy's going to be your right
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: tackle for you know, five years.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: It's a good pick.
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: Well then how can you think that? How can you
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: know that?
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: You don't you don't know anything about any of these.
- 1:08:51Speaker 8: No, but I'm saying specifically, he hasn't played that position.
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: That's what I would push back.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: But that's the plan.
- 1:08:57Speaker 8: But the reason why I didn't love the plan is
- 1:08:59Speaker 8: I he doesn't play right tackle. But that's why I
- 1:09:03Speaker 8: didn't love the plan. Initially, now again, email is right.
- 1:09:06Speaker 8: I talked myself into what.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: I got there.
- 1:09:08Speaker 8: I got there, I got on board because I do understand,
- 1:09:12Speaker 8: and it's kind of what you guys gave me pushback on,
- 1:09:15Speaker 8: like I think it actually does set them up nicely
- 1:09:19Speaker 8: and it provides a layer of insurance where now they
- 1:09:22Speaker 8: can let the strong survive. The best player emerges as
- 1:09:26Speaker 8: the left tackle, and then you worry about the right
- 1:09:29Speaker 8: tackle later. So I you know, like I said I did,
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: the email is right for calling out my hypocrisy.
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: I talked myself into it.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: I changed your mind.
- 1:09:41Speaker 8: I always say it's better to sort of be a
- 1:09:43Speaker 8: little bit flexible than just stubbornly said in your ways
- 1:09:47Speaker 8: like Evan.
- 1:09:48Speaker 7: Yeah, Nath's from Iowa, and he said he played football
- 1:09:52Speaker 7: with Eli Raritan, and I could not be more excited
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: that we drafted him. I know he wasn't some of
- 1:09:58Speaker 7: your guy's favorite tight end of the raft, but is
- 1:10:01Speaker 7: definitely the toughest of them. I played strong side linebacker
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: and I remember going against him in practice deciding that
- 1:10:07Speaker 7: I need to become friends with this guy, otherwise I'm
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: going to get killed in practice for the next four years.
- 1:10:12Speaker 7: He's a great guy, and you guys are gonna love
- 1:10:14Speaker 7: getting to know him when do rookie jerseys become available
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: to buy, because I'm one hundred percent getting his Yeah.
- 1:10:22Speaker 7: So I think when he when he says toughest and
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: he meant just to cover right would.
- 1:10:32Speaker 8: Against Ken and Max Claire, I mean, he's telling you
- 1:10:36Speaker 8: what he did against You played against this guy, you
- 1:10:38Speaker 8: didn't play against the other guys.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: Toughness is not how I would describe other than bouncing
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: back from two a c ls early on in his life.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: Is that shows some mental for sure, But toughness on
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: the field in terms of like grit and blocking and like,
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: I wouldn't necessarily describe him in that exact way, But
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: that doesn't mean he doesn't have goods about him.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: It's well, maybe it was tough and like tough to cover, sure,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:11:04Speaker 10: I mean there's a willingness to his blocking, and that
- 1:11:08Speaker 10: to me, what the appeal is is that he can
- 1:11:09Speaker 10: develop into an all around tight end.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: Who continue, I'm intrigued by that. Pick me too, me too.
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: I think he can develop into an all around tight end.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: And I think you know, even now when you see
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: him get opportunities that are a little bit more favorable
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: like blocking safeties instead of blocking defensive ends and stuff.
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: He does a pretty good job. So you know, it's
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: just the he plays. You know, he's sixty six, so
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: he's a little upright in terms of like his you know,
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: leverage and all that kind of stuff, and he doesn't
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: quite have the mass yet, you know to really like
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: dig in. But I saw an interview with him where
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: he said that he wanted to gain about ten pounds
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: you know, play around two fifty five uh in the NFL,
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: and I think that might help.
- 1:11:49Speaker 10: That's yeah, like the thing that kind of stood out
- 1:11:51Speaker 10: to me watching him age a little bit yesterday again,
- 1:11:53Speaker 10: was just like good at tempoing his routes a little bit.
- 1:11:55Speaker 10: You know, it's like he kind of builds up a
- 1:11:57Speaker 10: little bit, but there are a bunch of times where
- 1:11:59Speaker 10: he just kind of gets it's lost in the coverage
- 1:12:01Speaker 10: and he finds you know, the open space. But I'm
- 1:12:04Speaker 10: just excited because I think he can be protected this year.
- 1:12:06Speaker 10: He doesn't need to come in and they're not going
- 1:12:08Speaker 10: to ask him to block. They're going to be like
- 1:12:10Speaker 10: you know, and Evan you know, made a great point.
- 1:12:12Speaker 10: He's not you know a big red zone producer at
- 1:12:14Speaker 10: Notre Dame. But I think that's where you start. You know,
- 1:12:17Speaker 10: you get in those red zone packages, you get two
- 1:12:19Speaker 10: tight ends, and you know, you see what you can
- 1:12:21Speaker 10: do with him off the seam. I just I think
- 1:12:23Speaker 10: that connection with Drake's gonna be something that I'm really
- 1:12:26Speaker 10: going to have an eye on in training camp, just
- 1:12:28Speaker 10: because I feel like when Drakes he's a big body,
- 1:12:30Speaker 10: he is confident to chuck the ball to that dude,
- 1:12:32Speaker 10: and I think he'll be chucking on a lot to
- 1:12:34Speaker 10: Eli Ridin.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Yeah, he's got a nice complimentary skill set to what
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: the rest of the group has. You know, Hunter Henry
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: is kind of your chain mover, your steady, you know,
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: presence there. And then obviously Julian Hill is a blocking specialist.
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: And then Raredon's got some real field stretching ability. You know,
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: a guy that averaged over fifteen yards of catch, so
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: he's got some real vertical juice. And that, to me,
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: is his path to playing as a rookie is you know,
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: he's going to bring a little bit something different to
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: that room. It might not be in a high volume,
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: but just have some sort of different element to his game.
- 1:13:06Speaker 7: I think Raredan is the guy, to me, has the
- 1:13:09Speaker 7: most potential to exceed expectations.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think.
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: That sounds about right.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Deuce is right, like the way that
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: Drake May throws to bigger targets, whether it's the tight ends,
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: Matt Collins, like, you can see a comfort level, especially
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: over the middle of the field that you know, okay,
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: if I have to really rip this one in there,
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: like if it's a little high, you know, this guy's
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: got the ability to go and you know, catch the
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: ball above his head versus trying to hit you know,
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: a Pop Douglas in the same window through the trees, right,
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: it is not as easy. So he definitely has a
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: comfort level there.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: John and Louisiana.
- 1:13:45Speaker 7: When Evan knew who the pick was for the Patriots
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: but it wasn't publicly announced yet, he was like a
- 1:13:50Speaker 7: kid at his birthday ready to blow his candles, but
- 1:13:52Speaker 7: his parents had to hold him back till the birthday
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: song was over. Also, Fred, do the Cowboys feel like
- 1:13:58Speaker 7: we got a guy only in the first round or
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: do they feel the need to congratulate each other even
- 1:14:03Speaker 7: on day three?
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, that was a very unfortunate byproduct of this
- 1:14:09Speaker 8: draft for me is like every single team they put
- 1:14:12Speaker 8: up there, all of them couldn't wait to congratulate themselves
- 1:14:16Speaker 8: for every pick.
- 1:14:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean even if when they make their calls
- 1:14:20Speaker 7: for the undrafted free agents they.
- 1:14:22Speaker 8: I used to really make fun of Dallas for that.
- 1:14:24Speaker 8: Now everybody, Yeah, they all do it.
- 1:14:26Speaker 10: That would be an interesting video of just behind the
- 1:14:29Speaker 10: scenes of the dash to sign undrafted free agents and
- 1:14:32Speaker 10: what kind of negotiations go on. You know, do hey,
- 1:14:35Speaker 10: I got this much guaranteed money from this team, would
- 1:14:38Speaker 10: you be willing to go up a little bit?
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: You know those kind of things, and you know what,
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: what do they need?
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: They keep that in mind, Yeah, do we not?
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Do we not?
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: We didn't get this in the draft?
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: You got it.
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: Let's go after this kid.
- 1:14:47Speaker 12: You know how do they take a lot of the
- 1:14:49Speaker 12: d phase too.
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: They look at the team's depth charts that are calling
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: them because they need to have a path to make
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: the rosters. So they're not going to sign with the
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: team that is like loaded, you know the Patriots, Like,
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: why would I tackle sign here right now?
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: Like you just four wide receivers? Did Yeah?
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I know that's right.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but I might be the maybe the deepest spot
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: I mean it might not have.
- 1:15:09Speaker 12: The in terms of numbers, sure, yeah, but I think
- 1:15:12Speaker 12: a lot of you could look at it.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: And say you're just making a point.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: I I yeah, Like.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: Every time we talk to those guys afterwards, like what
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: made you sign with the Patriots, And a lot of
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: it is to be honest, like there was an opportunity there,
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: Like I saw, you know, there wasn't a whole lot
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: ahead of me on the depth chart, and I thought
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: I could make the team.
- 1:15:33Speaker 7: Uh Andrew and Coronado, California. A few random thoughts.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: First, I liked the low MoU pick.
- 1:15:40Speaker 7: We knew we needed a tackle in the next year
- 1:15:42Speaker 7: or two, so why not take one this year in
- 1:15:44Speaker 7: what is regarded as a week draft instead of next
- 1:15:47Speaker 7: year when the talent will be better at more premium
- 1:15:49Speaker 7: positions and would be probably picking higher. Second, the Super
- 1:15:53Speaker 7: Bowl run was great, but it delayed the off season
- 1:15:55Speaker 7: shows by five weeks, which kind of sucked. Third, when
- 1:15:59Speaker 7: Paul talks normal, he sounds like he's from Boston. When
- 1:16:02Speaker 7: he puts on his fake Boston accent, he sounds like
- 1:16:04Speaker 7: he's from Philly, and it's hilarious.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: Oh last, Chester can pull off.
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: My Boston accent? I sound like I'm from Philly.
- 1:16:14Speaker 7: Last Chester can pull off a signature catchphrase. Christian in
- 1:16:17Speaker 7: La cannot. Also, I'm pretty sure he's a fraud. There's
- 1:16:21Speaker 7: no way somebody with as much money as he claims
- 1:16:23Speaker 7: to have would have given up Patriots Super Bowl tickets
- 1:16:26Speaker 7: to go next year. He'd do both. There never was
- 1:16:29Speaker 7: a ticket. Maybe he does live in a big house
- 1:16:31Speaker 7: as the as the nanny or something. Oh wow, that's
- 1:16:36Speaker 7: a good point. If you have that much money, you
- 1:16:38Speaker 7: go to both, right.
- 1:16:41Speaker 12: Well, yeah, like my uncle somehow has been to like
- 1:16:45Speaker 12: nine of them.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Another Carolina called this one's from South Carolina. It's Dustin.
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: What's up Dustin? Hey?
- 1:16:55Speaker 27: How you guys doing good?
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:16:58Speaker 27: All right, I got a quick question in a statement.
- 1:17:01Speaker 27: So I'm looking to really see a big jump from
- 1:17:04Speaker 27: Kyle Williams this year. His skill set just screams a
- 1:17:08Speaker 27: guy that needs to play on the outside the majority
- 1:17:11Speaker 27: of the time. So I'm prefacing this question with the
- 1:17:14Speaker 27: assumption that aj Brown will be here and kaysham Boodi
- 1:17:16Speaker 27: will not. If that is the case. With Romeo Dobbs
- 1:17:21Speaker 27: playing eighty two percent of his snaps on the outside
- 1:17:24Speaker 27: last year, do you think he'll be able to transition
- 1:17:26Speaker 27: to the inside or do you think hit him and
- 1:17:29Speaker 27: Kyle Williams will compete for STAPs on the outside opposite
- 1:17:32Speaker 27: of Ajay. Yeah, and then my statement is Fred, do
- 1:17:35Speaker 27: the right thing, bring Andy home.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: Okay, all right, thanks sus I.
- 1:17:40Speaker 10: Think Dov's slide inside when you go through wide receiver
- 1:17:43Speaker 10: and you know, maybe you bring in Hollins on the outside,
- 1:17:45Speaker 10: you know, as a second outside presence or But I
- 1:17:48Speaker 10: like the Kyle Williams I think he's got I mean,
- 1:17:49Speaker 10: I think he has an advantage in his speed.
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: You know, he's got young legs, He's got to get stronger.
- 1:17:54Speaker 10: I mean, that's something he's been talking a lot about
- 1:17:56Speaker 10: going into this offseason.
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: But I agree.
- 1:17:58Speaker 10: I mean, if I was a receiver in that, I
- 1:18:00Speaker 10: would say, what can I do better than anyone else here?
- 1:18:02Speaker 10: And I think Kyle Williams right now the long speed.
- 1:18:05Speaker 10: But and I think he's pretty good getting off the
- 1:18:06Speaker 10: line too. I mean, I think he's got some moves
- 1:18:08Speaker 10: at least some quickness, yeah, some good releases. So but
- 1:18:12Speaker 10: I agree, I think that's a you know, it's it's
- 1:18:14Speaker 10: not hard to look at twenty twenty seven and think,
- 1:18:17Speaker 10: you know, you know, you got Dobbs and maybe you
- 1:18:19Speaker 10: got aj Brown, But if Kyle Williams can be you
- 1:18:22Speaker 10: know that third guy. I mean, look, you hit on
- 1:18:26Speaker 10: a draft pick at a wide receiver, I think we're
- 1:18:28Speaker 10: gonna be throwing a parade.
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: So all eyes on.
- 1:18:30Speaker 10: Kyle Williams this summer. I just hope he stays healthy,
- 1:18:32Speaker 10: that he's consistent. You know, that was one thing last
- 1:18:34Speaker 10: year that he did well. He was always available and
- 1:18:37Speaker 10: you know, made the most of some of his opportunities.
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: But it just did It wasn't consistent in that. But again,
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: he's a rookie and hard to expect more than that.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: We just have a asked the question like did he
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: not play more because of what was in front of
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: him on the depth chart and Diggs is here and
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: Matt Collins is here and Foudy and.
- 1:18:54Speaker 12: Douglas and or did he not play more because he
- 1:18:57Speaker 12: couldn't make that push.
- 1:18:59Speaker 10: And make certain for Mery Paula interrupt your novel jump.
- 1:19:02Speaker 10: But the same question is he is he mentally knowing
- 1:19:05Speaker 10: where to be and is he in the right spots?
- 1:19:07Speaker 10: And that's a concern I have with Pop Douglas. It's
- 1:19:09Speaker 10: not a concern I have a Kaishaan Boody. I think
- 1:19:10Speaker 10: Kashan Bouti is starting to get it and understand how
- 1:19:13Speaker 10: to run his routes and where to be. But you know,
- 1:19:16Speaker 10: Kyle Williams as much as gets stronger mentally getting in
- 1:19:19Speaker 10: the right.
- 1:19:19Speaker 8: Spots, like you know, just simply and we talked about
- 1:19:23Speaker 8: this earlier in the show. Unless major changes happen and
- 1:19:27Speaker 8: guys are not here that are expected to be here,
- 1:19:30Speaker 8: I want, like, I wonder, how.
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: Does it change for Kyle Williams from last year to
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: this year?
- 1:19:35Speaker 8: In other words, Okay, if Booty goes where, they still
- 1:19:38Speaker 8: bring it in Brown and Dobbs. You know, so for
- 1:19:42Speaker 8: so Booty and Digs go Brown and Dobbs come in,
- 1:19:45Speaker 8: they're ahead of Kyle Williams. So now you have to
- 1:19:49Speaker 8: find a way if you're Kyle Williams, to get ahead
- 1:19:51Speaker 8: of Mac Hollins or get ahead of to Mario Douglas
- 1:19:54Speaker 8: and you know, earn those kinds of reps on a
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: more regular basis. Otherwise, what's changed? You know, whether he's inside,
- 1:20:01Speaker 8: outside or indifferent, he's not going to play outside over
- 1:20:04Speaker 8: a J. Brown, and he's not going to play anywhere
- 1:20:07Speaker 8: inside or outside over Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: Yeah, so who is your inside guy? Who's your move
- 1:20:14Speaker 7: the chains guy or Romeo underneath guy Dobbs. But this
- 1:20:17Speaker 7: guy said he lined up outside.
- 1:20:19Speaker 8: Yeah, the semantics like, yeah, you don't have to be
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: a downfield guy to be an outside guy.
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: But in Green Bay, like they they run a lot
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: of condensed formations, so like their receivers are tight into
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: the numbers.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: He's outside.
- 1:20:32Speaker 8: He's still technically yeah it's inside the numbers, but outside
- 1:20:36Speaker 8: the former Yeah.
- 1:20:37Speaker 12: Yeah, so there's there's some blurred lines there.
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: I actually, like, you know, Diggs ended up being pretty
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: much a slot guy, like he was sixty forty slot
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: I think last year.
- 1:20:47Speaker 12: But you know, if you look at like where like
- 1:20:50Speaker 12: a heat map of like where.
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: Romeo Dobbs actually was on the field versus where Diggs
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: actually was, it might log as a slot snap for
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: Digs in a wide snap for but like the real
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: estate is not all that.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: He ends up there? Yeah right right, yeah, Tom and Natick.
- 1:21:06Speaker 7: Like everyone, I was thrilled with the twenty twenty five
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: draft because the Patriots didn't try to get too fancy
- 1:21:12Speaker 7: and instead selected players who were high at all the
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: consensus boards. But this year's day three felt like they
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: decided to try to be the smartest people in the room,
- 1:21:20Speaker 7: and they selected players like Pronting and Abiyazor who were
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: considered UDFA candidates by pretty much everyone in the league.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Very frustrating. I'm not worried about those days.
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: I just yeah, I mean, she might be right, you know,
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: they might have been reaches.
- 1:21:36Speaker 8: From everything I read, and this is kind of a
- 1:21:39Speaker 8: pretty simple synopsis, is that the nil is really impacting
- 1:21:43Speaker 8: Day three more so than anything else. And the theory
- 1:21:46Speaker 8: that I read a lot over the weekend was whereas
- 1:21:50Speaker 8: in the past, you might get let's say, let's say
- 1:21:53Speaker 8: there's one hundred early entries in a typical year, say
- 1:21:57Speaker 8: eight years ago. You know, at maximum, only a third
- 1:22:02Speaker 8: of those guys are going in the first round, right,
- 1:22:05Speaker 8: so at least two thirds of those guys is still
- 1:22:07Speaker 8: available later in the draft. Well, now, if you cut
- 1:22:10Speaker 8: that number of early entries, say in half, there aren't
- 1:22:14Speaker 8: as many draftable players available.
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: So Day three is going to get the hit.
- 1:22:19Speaker 8: There's guys getting drafted in Day three today that maybe
- 1:22:22Speaker 8: wouldn't have been drafted eight years ago when everybody was
- 1:22:25Speaker 8: coming out early. Now a lot of guys stay in
- 1:22:27Speaker 8: school they're taking the money in school, and I think
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: that the pool was smaller.
- 1:22:31Speaker 12: One hundred percent, and I wonder how much longer that'll
- 1:22:33Speaker 12: go on for like just two points that.
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: They catch up, because we'll catch up. I also think
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: that some.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: Guys actually end up hurting their stocks by staying, because
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: a lot of time what's happening is like guys have
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: early breakouts, they stay for the money in nil and
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: then they end up having a bad junior you know,
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: senior season, uh, and when they were draft eligible and
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: they don't come out. So I think in some ways
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: we've seen that actually work against players because there's one
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: more year of sample, you.
- 1:22:59Speaker 8: Know, and this is the new normal too, so it
- 1:23:01Speaker 8: will catch up and you won't have those big early
- 1:23:05Speaker 8: entry classes, you know, like you used to do. But
- 1:23:08Speaker 8: now this will become the normal thing and it'll it'll
- 1:23:11Speaker 8: work itself out. And you're right, like, look at the
- 1:23:13Speaker 8: two great receivers, right, Jeremiah Smith who remains the great receiver,
- 1:23:18Speaker 8: but Ryan Williams was the other one. They were both
- 1:23:20Speaker 8: true freshmen and by all accounts would have been like
- 1:23:23Speaker 8: top ten picks that they come out after their freshman year.
- 1:23:26Speaker 8: Smith probably is going to be a top three pick,
- 1:23:30Speaker 8: you know when he comes out. Ryan Williams took a
- 1:23:32Speaker 8: step back last year, so if he was draft eligible
- 1:23:35Speaker 8: after that first year, he may have been what Evan's
- 1:23:38Speaker 8: talking about, may have been a guy who sort of
- 1:23:40Speaker 8: heard his stock a little bit by staying in.
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I forget all the names, but like a lot
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: of the quarterbacks, like Drew Aller for example, Like a
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: lot of these quarterbacks, you know, went back and they
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: hurt their stocks actually by going back because they played worse.
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: And you know, sometimes that's just circumstances. You know, you
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: lose your team, lost to watch a bunch of guys
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: to the NFL, there was a coaching change, whatever the
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: case may be. That my lead it there. I would
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: also say like with the Day three picks, I kind
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: of felt a little bit like the emailer a little bit.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: I kind of felt like Day three they they sort
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: of said, we're yeah, back into the roster special teams.
- 1:24:14Speaker 8: He's right about where some of these guys were projecting.
- 1:24:16Speaker 8: A lot of them were projected DF.
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: The one guy that I, yeah, crown over is the
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: one sort of like guy that was like all right,
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: that was I like that pick a lot he actually
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: I think went below consensus, right, like he was consensus
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: higher and went a little bit later than he was
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: supposed to go. Uh, trading completely out of the fourth round,
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: even though it got you Lomo and an accus.
- 1:24:36Speaker 12: Maybe that ends up working. They were right about that
- 1:24:39Speaker 12: in the long run.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: But I think in the fourth round of this draft,
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: there was a sweet spot of some of their depth needs,
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: like linebacker, safety, places like that.
- 1:24:47Speaker 12: You know, dude, let a read off a couple of
- 1:24:49Speaker 12: the linebackers.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: I think it was what Miami got, right Kyle Lewis,
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: you know, guys like that that went in the fourth round,
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: And I was a little disappointed that they didn't have
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: an opportunity to draft those guys. So there's other like
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: kind of pivots, Like you know, they went and they
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: drafted the TCU kid, and like Harold Perkins was still
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: on the board when they picked, and I was I
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: would love to know, like what they what the difference
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: between those two guys were for them, And I think
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: some of it is is that, you know, they kind
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: of project Obiazar to be a better special teamer and like,
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: you know that that's just sort of where they're at
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: right now.
- 1:25:23Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: I thought that the Day three of the draft, it
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: wasn't so much that they reached It was more that
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: I think they kind of were like, we don't have
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: any roster spots left that aren't special teams, you know,
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: depth guys, and they kind of took guys that have.
- 1:25:37Speaker 12: An eye towards, you know, playing in the kicking game.
- 1:25:40Speaker 7: Jacket and Abbah fred is right, Lomu will be the
- 1:25:43Speaker 7: Patriots right tackle for five years or longer. Lomu is
- 1:25:46Speaker 7: a better offensive tackle prospect and is more highly allowed
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: teammates Spencer for Know. Why you asked, because the Utah
- 1:25:53Speaker 7: coaches moved the more experienced for Know to right tackle
- 1:25:56Speaker 7: to put Lomu at left tackle last season. Did they
- 1:25:58Speaker 7: do that because Lomu was a worse player than Fine?
- 1:26:01Speaker 7: Because Lomu has a better frame to play tackle, He
- 1:26:05Speaker 7: is better proportioned to add mass throughout his frame, especially
- 1:26:08Speaker 7: to increase upper body strength than Fine. Moreover, although Finel
- 1:26:12Speaker 7: has elite measurables at the combine, low Mu's measurables were
- 1:26:15Speaker 7: still above average. Furthermore, four irrelevant forty times and nearly
- 1:26:22Speaker 7: meaningless in the evaluation that tackles.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: Finally, race yourself.
- 1:26:27Speaker 7: Low Mu's arms are thirty three and three ace, whereas
- 1:26:29Speaker 7: Finot's arms are thirty two and an eighth.
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: So I will agree with some of the premise of
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: the email. There were people that felt like Lomu was
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: a more talented player than not a not a more polished,
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: not a more you know, pro ready type of player,
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: and definitely not a better finisher, but in terms of
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: just raw measurables and athleticism, people thought that Lomu might
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: have actually been a better prospect. Now, the other thing
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: about the left and the right, you know, I I
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: mentioned during our raft show. I think a lot of
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: that was who was more comfortable switching yep, And so
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: they felt like Fano was more comfortable with the switch
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: than Lomu was.
- 1:27:09Speaker 12: So they left Lomu alone and they and they moved
- 1:27:12Speaker 12: fanel over.
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: But I've heard the take that people think Lomu is
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: more from a raw talent standpoint, has like a higher
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: ceiling than Fano does.
- 1:27:22Speaker 8: It's as I mean, they got taken what fifteen to
- 1:27:25Speaker 8: twenty picks apart, and yeah, I mean it's not like
- 1:27:27Speaker 8: one went in the first round and one went in
- 1:27:29Speaker 8: the seventh round, right, you know, like Membu and Marcus
- 1:27:31Speaker 8: Bryant as an example, the two Missouri guys who had
- 1:27:35Speaker 8: a similar situation left and right that will be remain
- 1:27:39Speaker 8: to be seen. Did they not want to make that
- 1:27:41Speaker 8: move because they didn't feel like MoMu could play the
- 1:27:44Speaker 8: right side, or because they felt let's leave well enough alone.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:27:49Speaker 8: I'm not on the Utah coaching staff, but we'll find out. Yeah,
- 1:27:52Speaker 8: so we'll sort themselves up. That's certainly what the whispers were.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: The the Fino thing that I think stands out that
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: makes him, you know, made him go higher, was just
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: you know, he's more technically sound right now, He's more
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: polished and he's got a little bit more grit and
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: like finished to his game than Lomu does. But you know,
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: Brandon Thorton said that, you know, raw talent wise, like
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Lomu's probably a better prospect in that respect. So maybe
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: maybe it ends up playing that way in three years.
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: You know, it's not going to be that his rookie year,
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: but it might be you know, down the line again.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Less Chicken bretton Lemonster with the first pick. There seems
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: to be two minds of thought on this one.
- 1:28:32Speaker 7: Every article I read most of the people that think
- 1:28:36Speaker 7: he is a great pick and give the pick a
- 1:28:38Speaker 7: B plus through.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: An A rating.
- 1:28:41Speaker 7: Those people think he is replacing Campbell, and the people
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: who like but don't love the pick expect that he's
- 1:28:47Speaker 7: going to do spot duty and maybe fill in for
- 1:28:49Speaker 7: injured players, and eventually is replacing Moses, which is closer
- 1:28:53Speaker 7: to the truth.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Which is closer to to the truth.
- 1:28:55Speaker 8: Do you think in year one, B, Yeah, I don't
- 1:29:00Speaker 8: see any scenario that he just beats out Will Campbell
- 1:29:03Speaker 8: year one as a rookie.
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: I'm not telling you it's impossible, but I don't see it. Yeah,
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: B is more likely in year one.
- 1:29:10Speaker 8: What happens after that, like when Wigan Moses is gone,
- 1:29:13Speaker 8: when he retires, then I think you find out how
- 1:29:17Speaker 8: that plays out.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:29:19Speaker 7: When Fred was out, I wrote about TV shows from
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: the seventies and eighties that had quicksand episodes. Nice One
- 1:29:26Speaker 7: article said they were as common as Christmas specials, and
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: Paul thought, I must watch obscure westerns that WSBK blot
- 1:29:34Speaker 7: from ever.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Here are a list of few shows that had quicksand episodes.
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: Gilligan's Island, Gets Smart, The Lucy Show, Brady Bunch, Charlie's Angels,
- 1:29:42Speaker 7: six Million Dollar Man, Hardy Boys, Batman, night Rider, and
- 1:29:45Speaker 7: Dukes have had Wow.
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: I need I need to follow up. I need to
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: follow up. I need to know what Brady Bunch episode
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: had Quicksand.
- 1:29:53Speaker 8: I'm in the Hawaii epis. I know the Brady Bunch.
- 1:29:55Speaker 8: I don't remember any Quicksand episode.
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: Maybe it was maybe they were out in the wild.
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: That's in the I remember there out in the wild.
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: Maybe told him to stay away from the Quicksand.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: I've only seen one episode of the Brady Bunch. It's
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: Joe Namath right football, Yeah, that's only one.
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: He didn't like the route that Bobby ran on that,
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: I mean, obviously he's drifting.
- 1:30:15Speaker 12: It was horrible.
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: Hit Marsha right in the face. That's a different episode. Jesus,
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: what do we do it? Can we go back to
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: the Campbell different thing?
- 1:30:25Speaker 12: First?
- 1:30:25Speaker 10: You want to?
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: I mean, you're the one I want to.
- 1:30:27Speaker 12: Go back to this because you know, I got a
- 1:30:29Speaker 12: little cranky about it on Saturday.
- 1:30:31Speaker 16: Uh.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: We talked.
- 1:30:33Speaker 12: We just talked about low Moo and and.
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: If that situation might have been Actually just felt more
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: comfortable switching. I think that's the only scenario that I
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: see this happening is if they say Lomu's a starting
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: caliber tackle, but he's a starting caliber tackle on the
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: left side, and Campbell is more fluid, is more able
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: to kind of move over to the other side. It
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: doesn't necessarily meanly appreciate this take. Doesn't mean that Campbell
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: is bad. It just means that in order to get
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: them both on the field.
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: What you're doing, they have to they're both awesome. How
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: can they beat most awesome together?
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: Exactly?
- 1:31:11Speaker 8: He didn't be Will Campbell out, He was just was
- 1:31:16Speaker 8: actually better because he could play either side.
- 1:31:21Speaker 12: Say he was better.
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: I just said in order, maybe they're their best two tackles,
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: and the only way to get both of them on
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: the field is to put Lomo at left and Campbell
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: at right, because that's where they're you know, he's.
- 1:31:34Speaker 12: Only comfortable on the left.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: If that ends up being the case, yeah, I'm to tackle.
- 1:31:43Speaker 8: One of which is inferior playing the left side. According
- 1:31:48Speaker 8: to this theory, that the only reason why they're making
- 1:31:50Speaker 8: the change is because Will Campbell can play either side
- 1:31:53Speaker 8: and Lomo can't.
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: That doesn't mean he's not as good at left tackle
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: as Will Campbell.
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: It kind of does.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: But but now you know it tackles, it means he's
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: not as good at right tackle.
- 1:32:05Speaker 8: No, I'm saying that if he plays left tackle over
- 1:32:08Speaker 8: Will Campbell, they thought he was better at left tackle
- 1:32:10Speaker 8: than Will Campbell. Evan is saying that wouldn't necessarily be
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: the case, which again I really respect because it's as
- 1:32:19Speaker 8: as you could ever.
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: Have because I won't lay down my sword, That's what
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: I'm saying. So, but I'm one hundred percent going down
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: with the Will Campbell ship, and I'm okay with that.
- 1:32:30Speaker 12: Like I like him pre draft, I like them when
- 1:32:31Speaker 12: they drafted.
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: Fred's got it. I like him fourteen.
- 1:32:34Speaker 8: If those two guys are starting at tackle and they
- 1:32:36Speaker 8: both good players, then you've you've done it right.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: It doesn't matter where.
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: We've lived in the weeds of this for the last
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: like you know, three days and et cetera. Going back.
- 1:32:43Speaker 10: But I just think when you take a big picture
- 1:32:46Speaker 10: of view and you look back at the depth chart
- 1:32:47Speaker 10: of what they've added the last couple of years at
- 1:32:49Speaker 10: the tackle position, again, when you go back to thinking
- 1:32:52Speaker 10: what they were rolling out on the field two years ago,
- 1:32:54Speaker 10: I just feel generally like, Okay, I don't know how
- 1:32:56Speaker 10: it's all going to work out.
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: But I like that they have a bunch of options.
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: They've got depth, they've got some athleticism.
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:33:02Speaker 10: So maybe it'll work out one way or the other.
- 1:33:05Speaker 10: But it looks like it's gonna be good for the
- 1:33:07Speaker 10: team long Well, maybe not.
- 1:33:10Speaker 8: Signing any player who's ever played tackle like they did
- 1:33:15Speaker 8: two years ago was a mistake, Like we're gonna get.
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: I can't even think of his name now. Four he
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: had never left.
- 1:33:28Speaker 8: I know they couldn't go left, but that's who they
- 1:33:30Speaker 8: signed to play left, and then he pouted, So I
- 1:33:32Speaker 8: don't play left.
- 1:33:33Speaker 12: I played right and then retired and retire to camp.
- 1:33:38Speaker 7: Is there a way honestly to evaluate who would be
- 1:33:42Speaker 7: better at left tackle in camp?
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: Like right, you know, before our snaps are real? Is
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: there an honest way to say, Wow, this guy looks
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: better than that guy.
- 1:33:55Speaker 10: I mean, I think they'll be hints of it, especially
- 1:33:56Speaker 10: joint practices. You know, you get out there, you get
- 1:33:58Speaker 10: are you're talking.
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: Like even before they put the pads on, or like
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: well no, no, no, no, no, you know about the
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: summer Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so.
- 1:34:07Speaker 10: But I think ultimately you got to get to games
- 1:34:09Speaker 10: with the way that they have it set up and
- 1:34:10Speaker 10: the way they've been talking about Will Campbell short of
- 1:34:13Speaker 10: an injury or something drastic, I think it would be
- 1:34:16Speaker 10: hard to make that move before you get into games.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: And you know there's nothing.
- 1:34:19Speaker 7: So that's like kind of my question. You might have
- 1:34:22Speaker 7: nothing in the summer leading up to the real games.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: You say, well, they could this guy.
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: I mean maybe, like I'm just gonna eliminate myself. I
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: wouldn't be able to do that.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: Well, I don't think I would either.
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: No, I think it's hard.
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: I mean, unless there was not without the benefit of
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: watching the practice back, like watching it live, I can't.
- 1:34:41Speaker 12: Imagine I would be able to jump to that conclusion.
- 1:34:43Speaker 10: But pulling of people will jump to that conclusion if
- 1:34:45Speaker 10: like Will Campbell's losing one on ones and Lomu isn't
- 1:34:48Speaker 10: you know and.
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: Means I'd have to be watching those.
- 1:34:52Speaker 12: Yeah, I'll do it for you.
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: It's okay, But tell me who won those.
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: The one and the ones in Minnesota last year were great.
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: They let us like stand like right behind the drill
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: and I was literally like standing like I was in.
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: The pocket, and so like, did you get hit?
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: No, But you can like feel it a lot better
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: of like when they when they go when they go
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: bul rush, like you can feel it a lot better
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: of like did they actually would that have impacted you?
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: Like with the quarterback have had to move, Whereas when
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: you're kind of watching it from afar, it's sort of
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: hard to tell, like how far he actually moved the guy,
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: you know, but sometimes you know you can feel it.
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: And I remember last year in Minnesota, like Will Campbell
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: going up against Jonathan greenerd and just being like, okay,
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: like that's.
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: Nothing like.
- 1:35:41Speaker 7: There's nothing like being feel leveled near the hearing and
- 1:35:45Speaker 7: feeling that impact.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: You know, you lose that in the stands are on TV.
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: You can't understand how they register on the Richter scale. Yeah.
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: The other thing that's that stood up from being field
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: level Minnesota is Travion Like he took a wheel route
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: I remember you guys talking about, and I just like
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: he was just shot out of a cannon.
- 1:36:08Speaker 12: Then he had in that game to different speed.
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: Didn't he have a long run in that like catch
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: and running that.
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: I don't remember. I was feeling in for you, I
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: couldn't properly.
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: I don't remember him having one in this not very comforting.
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: He had the kickoff return in the opener. I remember
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: that Washington.
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: I thought he catching run in the game, but maybe
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: it was practice.
- 1:36:28Speaker 12: I mean, even Brian flores Is like kind of was
- 1:36:31Speaker 12: like whoa like that was. That's a different level.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: Let's get back to the phonet eight five five past
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: five hundred. Williams and Phillim what's up?
- 1:36:38Speaker 18: Well?
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: Hellup?
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:36:45Speaker 14: How you doing?
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: What's a paying?
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: All right? Hey?
- 1:36:51Speaker 14: Uh Elliott?
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: Well, Jesus Christ, what's going on over there?
- 1:36:56Speaker 7: Okay?
- 1:37:00Speaker 25: Can you just make some sense to this for me?
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Please?
- 1:37:02Speaker 25: So all right, so you you have three starters, all right,
- 1:37:06Speaker 25: So you have to tackle, you got to edgebrusher, and
- 1:37:09Speaker 25: you also have to tight end. So wouldn't they be
- 1:37:12Speaker 25: red shirts because they got to get implemented. They they
- 1:37:14Speaker 25: got the scheme. How does that work?
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I don't know.
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: For who?
- 1:37:24Speaker 14: All three?
- 1:37:24Speaker 12: All three? Well, lo mo, we just talked about it.
- 1:37:27Speaker 8: I mean, I don't think you're gonna get a lot
- 1:37:29Speaker 8: out of all three of those guys in year one.
- 1:37:31Speaker 8: But that doesn't mean that bad bread. I think Gacus
- 1:37:34Speaker 8: will play in Hill contribute the other two. I mean,
- 1:37:37Speaker 8: I don't think Woman will play much if if at all,
- 1:37:40Speaker 8: And I think there's a chance that rear it In
- 1:37:42Speaker 8: does the stuff that Evan talked about earlier in the show,
- 1:37:44Speaker 8: where he's a little different than your other two tight ends.
- 1:37:47Speaker 8: You might have some packages for him specifically to try
- 1:37:50Speaker 8: to make some big plays down the seam, but I
- 1:37:52Speaker 8: wouldn't expect him to be, say, like a fifty snap
- 1:37:56Speaker 8: kind of guy. I think you would get sort of
- 1:37:58Speaker 8: some specific big packages in the offense for him.
- 1:38:02Speaker 7: So we talked about Lomu, you know, red shirting or
- 1:38:07Speaker 7: being a you know, a substitute. Is there any chance
- 1:38:12Speaker 7: that he comes out and it's like, oh he's better
- 1:38:14Speaker 7: than Morgan Moses, you should start at right tackle.
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: I don't think so. What we've been talking a lot.
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: I mean the point I made on the show, always
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: a chance.
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: He's gonna play a lot.
- 1:38:22Speaker 10: You know, probably in camp they're going to manage Morgan
- 1:38:24Speaker 10: Moses and that hopefully can help accelerate his development. But
- 1:38:29Speaker 10: again it goes back to what you said earlier, like
- 1:38:30Speaker 10: can you determine who would win the spy?
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: I think it's one of the hard that and running back.
- 1:38:34Speaker 10: I feel like the hardest positions to truly evaluate in practices.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, I mean, I think you can evaluate
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: and in practice, but like I said before, like you
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: need to be able to watch back, like if you
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: if you're kidding yourself when they're at eleven on eleven's
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: and there's you know, ten guys moving around in the trenches,
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: like you're acting like you saw everything like that, I'm sorry,
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: but you didn't, you know, So like especially maybe like
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: somebody like Bill Belichick or Raybell can watch all twenty
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: two guys and diagnose everything that's going on.
- 1:39:04Speaker 12: No one can do that realistically.
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: So so like you know, without going back, and they'll
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: have the tapes and stuff like that that they can
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: go back and watch the practice. He maybe get a
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: better feel for it, But I don't think there's much
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: of a chance that he could be better than Morgan Moses.
- 1:39:19Speaker 12: But it's not zero.
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: I know, I don't just miss anything. I don't I
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: haven't seen the guy.
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: Play Adam Luizuana.
- 1:39:27Speaker 7: What I could see happening with Campbell and is Campbell
- 1:39:29Speaker 7: plays left tackle, Moses plays right tackle this year with
- 1:39:32Speaker 7: Lomu the swing tackle. We move on from Moses next year,
- 1:39:36Speaker 7: and Campbell plays right tackle with Lomu at left, not
- 1:39:39Speaker 7: because he's a better tackle, but because Campbell fits the
- 1:39:42Speaker 7: profile of a McDaniel's right tackle more. He was a nasty, mean,
- 1:39:46Speaker 7: finishing run blocker last year and will hopefully continue that
- 1:39:49Speaker 7: this year. That's what I believe we have always said
- 1:39:53Speaker 7: about our McDaniel's O line run blocker on the right
- 1:39:56Speaker 7: past protector on the left.
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: That's the Evan Lazar theory.
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: Will Campbell play right tackle?
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: I don't think if they're going to.
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: Do something it's hard to do that because of Morgan,
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: but like they're gonna do something like that, don't you
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: feel like they need to do that sooner rather than later.
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: Like if we're going to decide in year three of
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: Will Campbell that now we're going to flip.
- 1:40:15Speaker 8: Them, do you think there's any chance that they've done
- 1:40:17Speaker 8: a little of that well or they maybe it's probably
- 1:40:20Speaker 8: more accurate they plan to do some of that behind
- 1:40:23Speaker 8: closed doors, just to cover the basis, so they have
- 1:40:28Speaker 8: the possibility of both of them having to play the
- 1:40:30Speaker 8: other side, Like because you know they're going to ask
- 1:40:33Speaker 8: Lomo to take some snaps on the right side this
- 1:40:36Speaker 8: spring and summer on the right side, so maybe you
- 1:40:40Speaker 8: ask Campbell to take some snaps. I wouldn't do this
- 1:40:43Speaker 8: at training camp. I wouldn't do this at an O
- 1:40:45Speaker 8: t A that's open to the media, because just wonderful,
- 1:40:55Speaker 8: it's happening.
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: It's happening.
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: But you're right, reaction and your fingers would be that
- 1:41:01Speaker 8: would be the reaction, and then we get upset.
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: He'd be like George Costanza, Evan's getting upset.
- 1:41:05Speaker 8: I would definitely get upset. Yeah, but yeah, is there
- 1:41:09Speaker 8: any chance that they because I agree with that, but
- 1:41:14Speaker 8: it's the same problem reversed. Like you drafted Lomu with
- 1:41:18Speaker 8: the intent of playing in a position that he's never
- 1:41:20Speaker 8: played before, but then you find out that he can't
- 1:41:23Speaker 8: play that position, so we're gonna move to the west
- 1:41:24Speaker 8: side to move a guy who's never played.
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: The other position before. It's the same thing for Campbell.
- 1:41:30Speaker 8: He's always played left tackle, so it's not fair to
- 1:41:33Speaker 8: him to just say we'll just move over there.
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: You can do it, well, Lomo couldn't.
- 1:41:37Speaker 10: I mean, in this in this hype of thing over,
- 1:41:40Speaker 10: he's right, but he's the right, he's left. I mean,
- 1:41:44Speaker 10: not that I can remember Trent Brownish you, I mean,
- 1:41:47Speaker 10: it's not quite that.
- 1:41:48Speaker 12: He's not quite that.
- 1:41:49Speaker 3: But like, definitely more of your definitely more of your
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: prototypical right tackle, Like he fits the bill of dude
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: a big, long, physical, you know type of guy. I
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: was actually surprised that he said that he felt like
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: his run blocking was behind his pass blocking that when
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: they talked to him, and uh, we talked to him
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: at the at the end of the draft. But you know,
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: I think that he profiles is more of like what
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: the emailer is describing as a road grading glass eating
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: right tackle.
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: A lot of glass eating the last week. That's a
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: good term.
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: The draft weekend.
- 1:42:27Speaker 12: I like, road grade, Yeah, that's mine. Is Jared Wilson
- 1:42:31Speaker 12: a glass eater?
- 1:42:31Speaker 10: Like I feel like we're like putting this like personality
- 1:42:33Speaker 10: on Like well, if any they're not a glass.
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: Eater, then they're not.
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: He's more of an athlete, isn't he?
- 1:42:39Speaker 28: Ye very athletics Like I've heard some like oh, this
- 1:42:43Speaker 28: felt more like an Elliot draft, And I'm like, is
- 1:42:45Speaker 28: that just because you don't have a guy who looks
- 1:42:47Speaker 28: to punch people while they're on the ground, like you know, like.
- 1:42:51Speaker 16: I know.
- 1:42:53Speaker 12: A little bit, it eventually becomes a bar fight, like
- 1:42:57Speaker 12: this is the trenches man.
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: The I don't want want to do a bunch of.
- 1:43:06Speaker 12: You know eventually, like it's you know, you gotta have
- 1:43:10Speaker 12: a little bit of.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: All right, right, But does Jared wilson't have that? Like
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: I will will smile in the whole place. Yeah, I
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: don't think Jared. I would not say that Jared Wilson's
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: like that, But I think Bryan is not. Likes got
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: maybe a little bit of fighting them, like you don't
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: need to you know, they don't you know, bite when
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: they're puppies or whatever.
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: I know what you're saying, and I get it, like
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: I like to have physical finishers. I like to have
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: physical finishes.
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: I just don't think that the guy I just need
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: a little bit like I need to feel like the
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: guy is playing with a little bit of an edge.
- 1:43:40Speaker 10: I see, I did see snaploma grab a guy thrown
- 1:43:43Speaker 10: on the ground and you know, pancake there.
- 1:43:45Speaker 5: They do exist.
- 1:43:45Speaker 7: I don't lineman who feel that every snap is a
- 1:43:48Speaker 7: survival for my man.
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: I'm either gonna take, you're not gonna take.
- 1:43:57Speaker 8: Once's about honor. Once we stepped into all your once
- 1:44:03Speaker 8: you step into that arena, only one of us is coming.
- 1:44:05Speaker 12: Back, right exactly.
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: I just I wish they want to be the man
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: in the area.
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: He ate glass sounds sound sometimes like these things are
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: become group think, and like so every draft analyst will
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: write the same knock on the player, This one feels
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: a little bit more.
- 1:44:24Speaker 12: On point.
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and that and that.
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: That's just.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: It is what it is, okay. Robin san Diego be
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: in Connecticut.
- 1:44:32Speaker 7: During Bill's tenure, large gaps between draft picks were generally
- 1:44:36Speaker 7: viewed as a negative in previous drafts. The New England
- 1:44:38Speaker 7: Pagers traded up several times, which created a pretty significant
- 1:44:42Speaker 7: gap in Day three picks. I'm not saying one approach
- 1:44:45Speaker 7: is right or wrong, but it does seem like a
- 1:44:47Speaker 7: different drafting philosophy.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: What do you think.
- 1:44:49Speaker 7: I don't think it was a philosophy. I just think
- 1:44:51Speaker 7: it was circumstance. I don't think any team wants to
- 1:44:54Speaker 7: be out of the round, you know, like Bill used
- 1:44:57Speaker 7: to say, watching the parade go by.
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, you want to have seventy six picks
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: without I think, you know, it's just the way.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: It happened this year. Yeah.
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: They also if they had watched the Parade go by
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: in the first and second round, they wouldn't have gotten Lomunacus, right,
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: So that was the trade.
- 1:45:12Speaker 10: Off was what about trading one of those six day
- 1:45:15Speaker 10: three picks to get back up at something.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: I do wonder if they tried, that would be the
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: one thing, you know, because they could have traded one
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: seventy one and like two sixth to move back into
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: the fourth round.
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: I don't remember how it all worked.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: I know they were. Yeah.
- 1:45:30Speaker 12: I mean, you still would have had the gap, but
- 1:45:31Speaker 12: you would have made the gap.
- 1:45:32Speaker 8: Would have been between the fifth and sixth instead of
- 1:45:34Speaker 8: the fourth, and everybody would have rather had that.
- 1:45:38Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:45:38Speaker 10: I'm not just saying, yeah, you eliminate a good question
- 1:45:41Speaker 10: for for Elliott at the end of the draft.
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: You know, how'd you feel about that gap? I think
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: I think it's a really good question though. Yeah, that's something.
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I was surprised about the not to go on
- 1:45:51Speaker 3: Paul's side of the street. I was surprised a little
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: bit about the post draft press conference with Elliott. Usually
- 1:45:58Speaker 3: we have some more of like the the hard hitters
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: in there, like asking about, you know, more holistic type
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: of questions.
- 1:46:06Speaker 12: This is very like people tapped out.
- 1:46:09Speaker 8: So I'll tell you what I was a little curious
- 1:46:11Speaker 8: about is Ryan Cowden again, we just played him in
- 1:46:14Speaker 8: our break spoke not after the draft. It was probably
- 1:46:20Speaker 8: sixth maybe the sixth round was going on, and then
- 1:46:24Speaker 8: Elliott came back. And Elliott spoke the two previous days,
- 1:46:27Speaker 8: so he came back and wrapped it up again. I
- 1:46:30Speaker 8: was a little surprised at both. I would have thought
- 1:46:31Speaker 8: they year if he was here at the end of
- 1:46:35Speaker 8: the draft.
- 1:46:36Speaker 12: They did both.
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: Ryan Cowden definitely talked last year as well, and I
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: wonder if that's one of those weird because he does
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: have the VP title. Could be if he's like required
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: to talk at some point, maybe because he did talk,
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: or that could have just been in good will too.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: But he did talk last year. I don't remember who
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: ended it. I don't know if it was I think
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: it was Rable night one and then Elliott.
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: Basically what I think it.
- 1:47:02Speaker 8: Is like, it's it's Saturday, and I'm not excusing anybody,
- 1:47:05Speaker 8: but it's Saturday night.
- 1:47:07Speaker 12: Its yeah, I don't single person.
- 1:47:09Speaker 8: It's the end of a long three days. You just
- 1:47:12Speaker 8: heard from Ryan Cowden maybe two hours earlier. Maybe the
- 1:47:16Speaker 8: media was like, yeah, I already heard from Elliott Wolf
- 1:47:18Speaker 8: twice this week that beer crack I don't.
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: Need another one.
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: I got what I need.
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: I'm gonna file my stories and I'm gonna call it
- 1:47:23Speaker 4: a weekend.
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: I totally don't bock at that at all. But it
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: was funny because he got on the call and was like,
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: we did it.
- 1:47:32Speaker 7: He made it, and then it was like, you know, crickets, yeah,
- 1:47:36Speaker 7: rick and Riverside, Rhode Island.
- 1:47:37Speaker 18: Uh.
- 1:47:38Speaker 7: My observation, Drake May is the foundation to build on.
- 1:47:41Speaker 7: Did the Patriots do enough to help him in this draft?
- 1:47:43Speaker 7: I say yes. They added two tackles to increase the
- 1:47:46Speaker 7: talent level on the O line regardless of where the
- 1:47:49Speaker 7: players line up. The Patriots made the O line more competitive.
- 1:47:52Speaker 7: Crowd Over could be a surprise player that develops well.
- 1:47:56Speaker 7: Eli is a tight end with a ton of potential
- 1:47:58Speaker 7: to develop behind Henry aj will be in addition to
- 1:48:01Speaker 7: the offense, god Willing, this draft was not considered a
- 1:48:04Speaker 7: strong one. I believe the Patriots did a good job
- 1:48:06Speaker 7: with the picks they had and the players available.
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: I gave them an a oh, good for you.
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: I would agree with the last point Brown me too
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: that part too, But I would agree with the premise
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: that the last two drafts they've been that we have had.
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: They've been picking three and four. They started in each
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: round at thirty one this time, so just naturally it's
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: just not going to be as FIREWORKI it's not going
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: to be as exciting. And you're also just not going
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: to get Campbell Henderson. You know, you're not going to
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: get those guys at the top of the draft that
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: are making immediate impacts when you're picking as late as
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: they were picking. So I think that maybe some of
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: that was just sort of the nature of it.
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: I would just you know, this is nitpicking on the email.
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: Caleb Lomo.
- 1:48:56Speaker 8: Absolutely, that's helping your quarterback. You got a first round tackle.
- 1:49:00Speaker 8: You know, Dimitriu's crown Over. I mean, what was they
- 1:49:04Speaker 8: picked thirty picks before Marcus Bryant was last year. I
- 1:49:07Speaker 8: don't think anybody said Marcus Bryant was a pick to
- 1:49:09Speaker 8: help Drake May last year.
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: Now we know what sight unseen that Crownover has a
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: chance to be better. You know they've upgraded. I'm not like,
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: can we call the Day three guys what they really are?
- 1:49:21Speaker 5: You've you've pounded that in my head, possibly.
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: Taken throwers in Day three. You're hoping for some traits.
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: I think I think the Crownover has traits a little
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: I'm a little higher on the crown Over one because
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: of what are telling you not to be higher because
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: of where he started in the process. And I actually
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: asked Elliott Wolfe about it after the draft, like what
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: sort of transpired that caused him to follow a hundred picks,
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: and he said, you know, maybe age he's older, he's
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: going to be like twenty four to twenty five his
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: rookie year. And he's also a right tackle only player,
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: so he didn't have experience on the left side. Then
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: once you get to that point in the draft, you
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: got to have some versatility. So maybe that was part
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: of it. But when I started watching the tackles back
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: in February, he was ranked in the consensus boards of
- 1:50:03Speaker 3: like to be like a top one hundred pick. And
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: that process ended and he was a sixth rounder. So
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: I have a little bit of hope that that's not
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: the like, no offense to Marcus Bryant, but Marcus Bryan
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: was a late round pick from start to finish.
- 1:50:15Speaker 12: Crownover I think had some wartz and once people dug in,
- 1:50:19Speaker 12: he became a later round pack.
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: I would just say to that.
- 1:50:24Speaker 8: You.
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: And again I'm saying this derogatorily. I don't mean it
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: to be you.
- 1:50:28Speaker 8: People told me there's an enormous drop off once you
- 1:50:31Speaker 8: got past seven. Yeah, so Crownover wasn't in that top seven.
- 1:50:36Speaker 14: He was in.
- 1:50:37Speaker 8: Whether he was whether he should have been one hundred
- 1:50:39Speaker 8: and ten or one hundred and ninety six is kind
- 1:50:42Speaker 8: of irrelevant to me. He wasn't considered to be in
- 1:50:45Speaker 8: the top seven, and in the seven was thought to
- 1:50:48Speaker 8: be vastly different than everybody else.
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: So the rest of them are all projections. They're all flyers,
- 1:50:53Speaker 4: whether you pick him at.
- 1:50:54Speaker 8: One ninety six or two twenty, like Marcus Bryant last year,
- 1:50:57Speaker 8: in a better draft.
- 1:50:58Speaker 12: One hundred percent.
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: I would just say, you know, when we looking at
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: it from the outside, looking in, crown Over was considered
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: to be in sort of like that middle tier.
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: I saw that.
- 1:51:10Speaker 12: Markel Bell crown Over Isaiah World, as.
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: You'd like to say, the league thought otherwise.
- 1:51:17Speaker 3: The league thought otherwise. And I'm still not one hundred
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: percent Like sometimes with guys, there's secret league secret bubbles,
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: you know, underneath like red flags off the.
- 1:51:30Speaker 12: Yeah, and I don't want to speculate, but World didn't get.
- 1:51:32Speaker 7: Jayan Hansen writes in I was pulling into Gillette Stadium
- 1:51:35Speaker 7: for an orthopedic appointment this morning when a cream colored
- 1:51:38Speaker 7: Lesus cut me off before the entrance.
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: All I could think of was Fred and his parking
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: lot experience. I don't drive a Uh.
- 1:51:45Speaker 7: It made me realize how much your show has become
- 1:51:47Speaker 7: part of my weekly activities.
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: Thanks for all you do. You add a little spice
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: to my retirement as they work around the yard.
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: Yeah, but don't you get cut off in the parking lot? No,
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: I cut people off.
- 1:51:57Speaker 5: Keep driving right, That was keep f and drive. Then, Yeah,
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: don't make me get out of there.
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: Don't make me limp over the.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: Over.
- 1:52:08Speaker 5: We won't roll over you.
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: That'd be so funny.
- 1:52:11Speaker 12: Road range Bred just on the scooter.
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: After watch Out. You can get a lot of speed
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: on that.
- 1:52:19Speaker 12: You Absolutely, he was holling in the in the holloway.
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: He's going around the stadium on the ramps.
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: Where's Fred?
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: He's riding his scooter out on the ramps.
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: I can't wait till Monday, though.
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: When you get how's the feeling?
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: Next step?
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: It's great?
- 1:52:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that's good that the rookies won't see you laid up.
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: There I don't want to can't show weakness, don't show weakness.
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: Iron sharpens iron.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: I want to keep the morale up. I don't want
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: to think falling apart Bred. You know, you know he
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: can get hurt, I can get hurt.
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: But I have to say there. Any time I see
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: one of the scooters, the only person I can think
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: of is Gronk.
- 1:52:55Speaker 10: Like I think that might have been the first time
- 1:52:57Speaker 10: I ever saw one, was like Gronk getting his high,
- 1:52:59Speaker 10: you know, twenty eleven. I think he like came out
- 1:53:01Speaker 10: and dropped the pocket like the Wooster Ice Cats or something.
- 1:53:04Speaker 8: I can tell you that I saw Mike Rabel, Mike Great,
- 1:53:09Speaker 8: Mike r Rable as Jared Stillma would say, maybe like
- 1:53:14Speaker 8: four or five buzzing across the parking lot, like one
- 1:53:18Speaker 8: of those weeks. And he's got this thing, and you know,
- 1:53:21Speaker 8: it was like Friday and he's been like listened as
- 1:53:26Speaker 8: like limited, and I think it came out as like questionable,
- 1:53:30Speaker 8: and I'm like seeing Mike leave the he's got this thing,
- 1:53:33Speaker 8: and I'm saying to myself, I'm no doctor. But Mike
- 1:53:38Speaker 8: game playing Sunday.
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: He didn't want to. He had a friend Fred Scooter.
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: I mean ty loss had the fred scooter to really
- 1:53:44Speaker 5: missed any time.
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: He Yeah, he didn't miss very many games.
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: They broke a forearmy. Is that like a week later?
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: I remember? I mean, yeah he had he had. I
- 1:53:53Speaker 4: think he might have had. It's glad he had, like
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: an m cl.
- 1:53:58Speaker 6: Something.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:53:59Speaker 12: The defensive player can be a glass beater, but if
- 1:54:01Speaker 12: there was one then.
- 1:54:05Speaker 7: David writes in from uh New Mexico regarding the Patriots draft.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: Like a lot of people, I was a bit confused.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: On Day three. My mock did have Lomu, Raredan, Prunty,
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: and Morton. Wow.
- 1:54:17Speaker 4: That's a pretty good mock to see that mock.
- 1:54:20Speaker 7: Uh So things were kind of how I expected, though
- 1:54:23Speaker 7: I felt Prunty would be picked later.
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: All that said, I liked the draft.
- 1:54:26Speaker 7: However, when it came to undrafted free agents, I understand
- 1:54:29Speaker 7: Dixon and Kibble, but linebackers Barton sorry Lawson, as well
- 1:54:33Speaker 7: as safety More were available. I would have liked to
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: have seen one of these linebackers and More signed instead
- 1:54:39Speaker 7: of two of the four wide receivers. Do you know
- 1:54:43Speaker 7: if the Patriots tried to get any of the four
- 1:54:44Speaker 7: players I've listed? Wow, he really gets in depth over
- 1:54:48Speaker 7: the four.
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: So Deontay laws In, the linebacker from Alabama, had like
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: an extensive injury history that knocked him out of the draft,
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: so that that was what was up with him. Lewis Moore,
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: I assume was athletic profile stuff. He wasn't the fastest,
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: best athlete. I don't know who the other one now
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: and he named were.
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: But quick question, how many games did Mike Verbel miss
- 1:55:10Speaker 5: in eight years with the New England Patriots?
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: Won six three games?
- 1:55:15Speaker 10: Three three games and they were all in two thousand
- 1:55:18Speaker 10: and three, so I guess that was maybe three.
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: It was in that era somewhere.
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 1:55:24Speaker 12: Good for him.
- 1:55:25Speaker 7: Travis in West Virginia, the lady from North Carolina isn't.
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: Even a Patriots fan. Tell her to worry about her
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: own team.
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: So that was great. I was wondering where she was.
- 1:55:34Speaker 7: She's becoming a Patriots fan because it's freak May. So
- 1:55:37Speaker 7: we want to welcome new fans.
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: You don't drop an F.
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: Bompson just on all like thought.
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: The bandwagon is big enough for everyone. Hello everyone, hellover
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: player right, I'm coming in hot. I'm getting more and
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: more excited with.
- 1:55:52Speaker 7: The tight end pick and the two tackles for depth. Great,
- 1:55:56Speaker 7: the aggressive edge guy in Occus whoop. However, however, I
- 1:56:01Speaker 7: feel like the linebacker is crazy weakness. Now they let
- 1:56:05Speaker 7: some decent talent walk and I just can't get my
- 1:56:07Speaker 7: head around Gibbons. He played well right back up when
- 1:56:10Speaker 7: Splain was injured.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: He was really good. Then were able to.
- 1:56:15Speaker 7: Throw some money at him, or tell him to throw
- 1:56:17Speaker 7: some money at him and bring him back from the Cardinals.
- 1:56:20Speaker 10: I mean, I just I mean, you know, we brought
- 1:56:22Speaker 10: up Chad Mooma, They've signed kJ Britt, they brought in
- 1:56:26Speaker 10: the Obiazor We'll see.
- 1:56:28Speaker 8: I mean, I you know, you just can't have depth
- 1:56:30Speaker 8: at every position, and this might I do share the
- 1:56:34Speaker 8: confusion over Gibbons because I think for what you asked
- 1:56:37Speaker 8: of him, I think he filled that role perfect. I
- 1:56:40Speaker 8: want I want you to play on my core four
- 1:56:41Speaker 8: special teams and have the ability to take snaps on
- 1:56:44Speaker 8: defense if needed. And he I'm not telling you he
- 1:56:48Speaker 8: was the best I ever saw doing that, but he
- 1:56:50Speaker 8: filled in admirable you were talking about. He signed for
- 1:56:54Speaker 8: it with Arizona two years, five million. It's not like
- 1:56:57Speaker 8: someone said, you know what, we think we can make
- 1:56:59Speaker 8: him a piece and we're gonna get made million.
- 1:57:01Speaker 3: Well, okay, I do wonder now like now that we're
- 1:57:04Speaker 3: out of not that it truly matters, but like now
- 1:57:08Speaker 3: we're out of the range of where free agent signings
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: count towards the compic formula. And I wonder if some
- 1:57:13Speaker 3: of these veteran linebackers that are still available in free agency.
- 1:57:16Speaker 3: I wouldn't be shocked if there's one signed.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:57:19Speaker 3: Yeah, the big name out there probably right now, if
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: he wants to keep playing, is Bobby Wagner. Matt Mulano is,
- 1:57:25Speaker 3: you know, a free agent. He's coming off a bunch
- 1:57:27Speaker 3: of injuries in Buffalo, like one more of those guys
- 1:57:30Speaker 3: that kind of tries to do the you know, the
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: Joey Galloway or the you know whatever.
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: I mean I do.
- 1:57:37Speaker 10: I do see it as a a bit reassuring, just
- 1:57:40Speaker 10: that they're not going to be married to you know,
- 1:57:42Speaker 10: because I view Gibbons as a rabel guy goes back
- 1:57:44Speaker 10: to Tennessee doctor Gibbe's stories about him and all that.
- 1:57:47Speaker 10: But you know, they're not going to be married to
- 1:57:49Speaker 10: their little pets. They're going to be married to finding
- 1:57:52Speaker 10: who's going to be best at the position.
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: And so I know.
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: That's how I'm trying to look at it.
- 1:57:56Speaker 10: That I mean, for whatever we didn't see, they said,
- 1:57:58Speaker 10: we're going to need more out of this spot, and
- 1:58:00Speaker 10: maybe we have to take a half step back.
- 1:58:01Speaker 8: But so that's yeah, I mean that I would go
- 1:58:04Speaker 8: with the same theory, And that's why I'm confused by
- 1:58:06Speaker 8: it because I have I find it hard.
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: To believe because his play, his play look pretty solid.
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. All right, that's gonna be it for
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. A good show. We'll be
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: back up Thursday with more. What's going on this week?
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: Catch twenty two tomorrow, yep, Well, a lot of draft talk.
- 1:58:24Speaker 3: I'm sure bartho make us talk about the dfhase for three.
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: Upset about the punter situation.
- 1:58:30Speaker 12: Oh, well, they brought it. They brought it in a punter.
- 1:58:31Speaker 4: Yeah, but they didn't draft one. I think he wanted
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: a draft one.
- 1:58:34Speaker 12: Well you will see, but I'm sure I'll have a
- 1:58:36Speaker 12: take on on that. So we do that tomorrow.
- 1:58:38Speaker 8: My favorite movie the entire weekend, by the way, the
- 1:58:41Speaker 8: Punter sign an undrafted punter.
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: Thank you, all right, we will see you on Thursday.
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: Hey, this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
