• 4:56
  Speaker 6: Thanks, greg.
• 4:56
Speaker 6: Hey, let's look at the training schedule.
• 4:59
Speaker 6: By golly for I don't know how many weeks now I guess it's 18 or 19,.
• 5:04
Speaker 6: I've led off with your training for Disneyland Halloween.
• 5:08
  Speaker 6: Well, guess what?
• 5:09
Speaker 6: If you're training for Disneyland Halloween, your training is done.
• 5:15
Speaker 6: Now you get the celebration, you get the victory lap, all that training.
• 5:20
Speaker 6: I'll talk about that more in just a moment.
• 5:22
Speaker 6: Let's run through the rest of them.
• 5:25
Speaker 6: If you are working for Wine and Dine Weekend, you're in training week eight.
• 5:30
Speaker 6: We are now only I'm sorry, you're in training week 10.
• 5:34
Speaker 6: We are now only eight weeks away from Wine and Dine Weekend.
• 5:39
Speaker 6: If you're doing the challenge, you've got to double up two mile walk, walk nine and a half mile run, walk.
• 5:46
Speaker 6: If you're doing the half, it's nine and a half mile, and walk.
• 5:50
Speaker 6: We're also in training week 10 for marathon weekend.
• 5:55
Speaker 6: Your long run this weekend is 11 miles.
• 6:00
Speaker 6: Marathon weekend, now 18 weeks away.
• 6:03
Speaker 6: It'll be here before we know it at the end of this week.
• 6:08
Speaker 6: If you're working on dopey, dopey training I talked about this a couple episodes ago dopey training is 90 days and approximately 475 miles.
• 6:18
Speaker 6: 90 days out training, not 90 days on the calendar, uh, at the end of this week you'll be 34%.
• 6:27
Speaker 6: You'll be one third of the way done your number of days, but you'll only be a little over one quarter of the way done your miles.
• 6:35
Speaker 6: A lot of training, miles, backloaded in dopey training, but you can do it, kids.
• 6:40
Speaker 6: Hey, one of the things that I think and we were talking early on about this is that we kind of tend to and I say we, I mean those of us right here we kind of tend to think and talk a lot about the long race weekend.
• 6:59
Speaker 6: The marathon weekend is the big event of the season to run Disney, and I don't want to say we overlook, because we always know it's important, but sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we have friends who this Disneyland Halloween weekend may be the only event they run all year, and maybe they only run the 5k and you know what?
• 7:27
  Speaker 6: That's a highlight and that's worth celebrating.
• 7:30
Speaker 6: So when I say the training is done, this is celebration time.
• 7:35
Speaker 6: That's what I'm talking about, that this is the time to rejoice, have fun and just enjoy all that hard work that you put in.
• 7:45
Speaker 6: Well, we're excited for you.
• 7:47
Speaker 6: If you're going to be at Disneyland, I'm looking forward to seeing you there.
• 7:51
Speaker 6: Just remember, we're in this for fun.
• 7:54
Speaker 6: Hey, we've got a lot to get to today on this week's episode, so let's kick it off right now with our friends from the Council of Costumes.
• 8:04
Speaker 6: So let's kick it off right now with our friends from the Council of Costumes.
• 8:07
Speaker 6: Hey, friends, we have not visited with our Council of Costumes for a little while, and we keep changing the membership depending on who's available.
• 8:15
  Speaker 6: So we're excited.
• 8:17
Speaker 6: Disneyland Halloween is here.
• 8:20
Speaker 6: It's time to talk costumes.
• 8:22
Speaker 6: And who better to talk costumes with than Kristen?
• 8:28
  Speaker 8: Hello.
• 8:29
  Speaker 6: Margaret.
• 8:30
  Speaker 8: Hi there.
• 8:31
Speaker 6: Those are our returning Council of Costume members.
• 8:34
Speaker 6: Our new and you'll understand in a moment photogenic Council of Costume members that are with us are k hi, I'm looking, yeah and for the first time ever, we have one of the guys joining us with his shirt on tony's here hello, happy to be here and fully dressed.
• 9:06
Speaker 6: I thank you guys for giving up your time to do this.
• 9:09
  Speaker 6: It's fun.
• 9:09
Speaker 6: Costumes are such a big part of Run Disney and you do such a wonderful job of that and you take it so seriously that I think it's going to be fun.
• 9:23
Speaker 6: We need to keep in the back of our mind as we're talking here that we all know what we're talking about.
• 9:29
Speaker 6: But we've got a lot of friends who listen, who maybe haven't been to a Disney run before and aren't sure what to expect in costumes, so we can maybe help them out, give them some ideas.
• 9:40
Speaker 6: I want to let you do most of the talking because I'm kind of new to the costume world, but let's start with this what's the best part of running in costume?
• 9:58
Speaker 6: at a run disney race k why don't you start for us?
• 10:01
Speaker 9: the energy from the crowd?
• 10:02
Speaker 9: Yeah, hands down, yeah, um.
• 10:03
Speaker 9: I've shared it a couple times on some of the posts.
• 10:06
Speaker 9: But, um, especially when it's the longer run and the mental starts to attack and you get defeated to just hear someone calling out whatever you're running in, or to even just give like a compliment, or to say that your running costume is inspiring them or something, it gives you just a little bit more to keep going cool k is joining us from disneyland, from the oogie boogie party, which has it, has it started yet it hasn't started yet, so it officially starts at six, but we were allowed to come in at three.
• 10:44
Speaker 6: Okay, okay, of course Kay's in costume.
• 10:47
Speaker 6: Tell folks what you're wearing, kay.
• 10:49
Speaker 9: I am Ursula Bound, a big old tutu that looks like tentacles.
• 10:57
Speaker 6: It's good stuff Also out in California already and I'll be joining these folks yesterday.
• 11:02
Speaker 6: Yeah, that makes sense.
• 11:04
Speaker 6: By the time this drops, it'll be yesterday.
• 11:06
Speaker 6: Margaret's out there in California.
• 11:08
  Speaker 6: Hi, margaret.
• 11:10
  Speaker 8: Hello.
• 11:10
Speaker 8: Yes, I am in Diego for a few days before I head up to Anaheim tomorrow.
• 11:15
Speaker 6: Oh, okay, okay, yeah, cool, we'll see you tomorrow.
• 11:19
Speaker 6: We'll see you tomorrow, which is yesterday.
• 11:22
Speaker 6: You get it's it's tuesday here.
• 11:25
Speaker 6: We release on thursday.
• 11:26
Speaker 6: We get confused all the time.
• 11:28
  Speaker 6: We're time travelers.
• 11:29
Speaker 6: We have a mandalorian.
• 11:30
  Speaker 6: I cannot tell.
• 11:32
Speaker 6: I can only see the ears.
• 11:34
Speaker 6: Margaret, are you dressed in costume this evening?
• 11:37
Speaker 8: uh, just the ears.
• 11:38
Speaker 8: I have, um, the halloween mini mickey ears on because I'm getting ready to head over there for Halloween races at Disneyland there was no requirement to dress in costume for this audio only podcast, but that's okay.
• 11:53
Speaker 6: And and we've got Kay at Oogie Boogie and I'm chuckling because Kristen just modified her outfit.
• 12:01
Speaker 6: We'll get to that in a second.
• 12:02
Speaker 6: Margaret, for you, what's the best part of running in costume?
• 12:05
Speaker 8: so for me it's just being able to embody that character and kind of live your fairy tale, um, just for a moment in time.
• 12:16
Speaker 8: Y'all see these movies and we all like, want to be part of that movie or be part of what's going on, and just being able to dress up as those characters, it's just magical, especially when you're going through all of the, all of the fairytale lands and just all Disney.
• 12:35
Speaker 8: So just about it really adds to the magical experience.
• 12:38
  Speaker 6: It does.
• 12:39
Speaker 6: I think it does too Now again, audio only podcast.
• 12:44
Speaker 6: When Kristen found that others had some part of a costume on, she had to put her cowgirl hat on, looking resplendent Kristen.
• 12:54
Speaker 6: Thank you Nicely done as a true and loyal daughter of the state of Texas.
• 13:00
  Speaker 7: That's correct.
• 13:01
Speaker 7: Yes, and notice I didn't have to reach very far to get it.
• 13:05
Speaker 6: It was readily available yes, it was you do some great costumes also.
• 13:11
Speaker 6: I mean, I'm always interested to see what you everybody here does a wonderful job.
• 13:15
Speaker 6: Uh, what's your favorite part of this?
• 13:18
Speaker 7: I have to agree with k, and it's the energy that that you get from crowd, both as the runner and then from the cheering standpoint.
• 13:28
Speaker 7: I know that when, uh, I cheered the marathon this last January, we were standing over in the Mexico pavilion and every time a Hercules would run by Teresa and I would go Hercules, hercules, hercules.
• 13:43
Speaker 7: You know, and, and that was that was well, but still everybody turned and looked and laughed and it was fantastic.
• 13:53
Speaker 7: So it was just.
• 13:55
Speaker 7: You know, sometimes that's what you need is just for somebody to recognize who you're running as and give you that validation of I see what you were trying to go for and you achieved it.
• 14:06
Speaker 7: So, but I also love getting to pay, you know, homage to some of my favorite characters, maybe not in the traditional way, maybe by mashing them with other characters or other versions of them.
• 14:19
Speaker 7: It's, it's a way to express your, your creativity.
• 14:22
Speaker 7: A very, very public forum yeah, I agree.
• 14:28
Speaker 6: Now, tony, I should.
• 14:29
Speaker 6: I could have asked k this when I started, but oh, and, by the way, I cannot let this go by not to be outdone, tony, who also, surprisingly, did not have to reach far for this, has a hat, which is.
• 14:45
Speaker 6: Well, tony, tell them what your hat is this one's sunny eclipse.
• 14:49
Speaker 10: So this is uh my wife makes me hats when I'm nice to her for, uh, some of the race weekends, this this is the heaviest one that I wore.
• 14:57
Speaker 10: Luckily it was only a 5k um.
• 14:59
Speaker 10: But, like everyone said, I love the energy you get from people, especially when you're a deep cut character like sunny eclipse and someone actually gets it.
• 15:06
Speaker 10: It gives you a whole nother spark versus just being a common character that everyone gets right away.
• 15:11
Speaker 10: I remember I was Yeehaw Bob, oh yeah.
• 15:15
Speaker 10: I was a good one At Wine and Dine and, like, when people got that one, it was like that's an off, you know a resort, deep cut, not just in the park.
• 15:23
Speaker 10: So that was a fun one, but you had to get the energy or, if you're, um, like you guys are doing, the dalmatians coming up.
• 15:30
Speaker 10: I was pongo at, I think, that same wine and dine for the 10k and I saw cruella's out on the course.
• 15:36
Speaker 10: So, like to interact then, like character to character, like you're in the movie, you know, running away from cruella and stuff like that.
• 15:44
Speaker 10: So I think it just brings a whole nother spark to the, to the whole race that you know you could be doing some monotonous miles down the highway and hey, you can break it up by interacting with someone else, also in costume yeah, I'm not surprised people recognize Yeehaw.
• 15:59
Speaker 6: Bob, you nailed that one.
• 16:00
  Speaker 6: I mean that.
• 16:01
Speaker 10: No, that was really excellent and my my horn, for that is my most reused uh prop from all of my run disney costumes.
• 16:09
Speaker 7: So isn't that the one you used in?
• 16:11
Speaker 7: You used that one in louis too, or lewis yep, when I was lewis, and then I can't think of it right now.
• 16:17
Speaker 10: I used it again also in another race weekend, so it's when I was white rabbit, when we were both white rabbit oh, yeah, yeah yeah, it's gotten its use.
• 16:30
  Speaker 7: Yes Cause.
• 16:30
Speaker 10: I have you on video running behind people who don't know that you're coming and you blowing that horn and scaring the bejeebus out of them.
• 16:34
Speaker 10: That was the best part.
• 16:35
Speaker 10: You just terrify people, cause they don't expect to hear that.
• 16:38
Speaker 2: I love the responses that all four of you came up with this question because, when you really think about it, what makes a run disney event unique to say like a world major, is that we only have small pockets of where there are spectators.
• 16:57
Speaker 2: You know, because, you know, usually when it comes like a world major, a lot of people will like, come up with a race kit or they'll create a shirt that's got their first name on the front, so that way people in the crowd can keep, you know, saying like you know, go Tony, go Kristen.
• 17:13
Speaker 2: Here, almost the costume kind of replaces that.
• 17:17
Speaker 2: So that way, you know, even though there's not a ton of people on the sidelines who are, you know, chanting our names, they can be, can be, you know, it can be our fellow participants on the course.
• 17:26
Speaker 2: That you know, give us that, that recognition.
• 17:28
Speaker 2: You want to come to the costume.
• 17:29
Speaker 2: So it that really really is, um, vitally important.
• 17:34
Speaker 2: But now we'll start the next round of questions here and you know, and tony, we'll start with you.
• 17:40
Speaker 2: What ideas do you have for listeners who you know might be just getting into the costume game?
• 17:47
Speaker 2: I mean, obviously, you know, maybe a first timer might not go all out and wear a a clay hat, like you are wearing right now.
• 17:54
Speaker 2: What are those first steps you know that someone can make to get into the costume game?
• 18:00
Speaker 10: I think, an easy in.
• 18:02
Speaker 10: So my first race I ever did was the 5k marathon weekend 2022.
• 18:07
Speaker 10: I don't remember how I ever found run Disney and signed up for it, or how I found out that people wore costumes, but I just wore a shirt that was, uh, like a Chewbacca shirt wait, wait, you wore hold the phone breaking news anyway, sorry continue and it and it was a super heavy shirt.
• 18:25
Speaker 10: It was a terrible shirt to wear um.
• 18:27
Speaker 10: It was a taylor joelle shirt.
• 18:29
Speaker 2: Like our daughters wear the dresses, so I had oh, yes, yes, I got a shirt and I was dressed, um.
• 18:35
Speaker 10: So you know, it can start as simple as that.
• 18:38
Speaker 10: You can just wear whatever you want.
• 18:39
Speaker 10: One thing that I heard I cannot remember what race weekend it was, but it was riley, during one of his interviews, said let your freak flags fly.
• 18:47
Speaker 10: And that has always stuck with me.
• 18:48
Speaker 10: Like I'm an outgoing person, I love to just wear whatever.
• 18:52
Speaker 10: But like I'm not going to a local race and what I do, I run Disney.
• 18:56
Speaker 10: Like you're in a safe environment, everyone's there to have fun, everyone's there.
• 18:59
  Speaker 10: It's inclusive.
• 19:00
Speaker 10: They don't care anything about you outside of racing, anything like you're both there because you like running and you like disney.
• 19:07
Speaker 10: So if you want to make new friends, hey, you have two great things in common off the bat.
• 19:12
Speaker 10: So if you're dressed in a costume, that's crazy or you know, low key that's.
• 19:17
Speaker 10: It's an easy conversation starter.
• 19:19
Speaker 10: When you're sitting in the in the corrals waiting for a race to start, it's like oh, hey, I see you're dressed as woody.
• 19:24
Speaker 10: What made you dress like that?
• 19:25
Speaker 10: Maybe there's a backstory to why they have that costume.
• 19:28
Speaker 10: You know, I think we've all picked costumes based on something in our life, not just hey, I like this character is there was some story behind it so you can build a whole conversation in past 30, 40 minutes, while you're sitting in the crowd waiting for a race to start.
• 19:42
Speaker 10: Simply off what you're wearing.
• 19:44
Speaker 10: And I and I love that aspect of it, because when I run a local race here, I don't talk to anyone before it, I just have a regular running shirt and shorts on.
• 19:51
Speaker 10: There's nothing crazy about it, so it just it opens people up to a whole nother level that you don't experience anywhere else okay, how about you?
• 20:00
Speaker 9: I would probably just go for it.
• 20:01
Speaker 9: Go, go for it.
• 20:02
Speaker 9: Nothing's too big for someone who's first time trying out.
• 20:06
  Speaker 9: I think when I started I was mini-bounded.
• 20:09
Speaker 9: I didn't even know bounding was a thing, right.
• 20:11
Speaker 9: I'm learning more and more every year of like Disney terms, right, but I put on like one of those like what was it?
• 20:17
Speaker 9: A skater's dress and I thought I was like doing the big thing, doing the um that I got there and, to be quite honest, I learned from the best.
• 20:27
Speaker 9: So I ran with um okay, for those who don't know Hollywood, I ran with Tony um during wine and dine weekend and he was talking to me about like the different photographers and I was like, what are we doing?
• 20:41
Speaker 9: Like I just wanted to um, branch out and so I went, as I think that first race I don't know if I was missing spots, I can't remember which one.
• 20:50
Speaker 9: I did um, and, like Tony said, it is a safe space.
• 20:55
  Speaker 9: Feel comfortable.
• 20:56
Speaker 9: How big you go, it doesn't matter.
• 20:58
Speaker 9: And then don't be afraid to bring your crazy back home.
• 21:03
Speaker 9: So I'm sure some people have seen my post.
• 21:05
Speaker 9: I go to some of the local races Nothing new.
• 21:09
Speaker 9: On race day, again, I have a post on Facebook as to why.
• 21:14
Speaker 9: Nothing new on race day, but be okay and comfortable in your own skin.
• 21:23
Speaker 9: Whatever you come up with, go for it and do it.
• 21:28
Speaker 10: On a thing and real quick the nothing new on race day.
• 21:31
  Speaker 10: I am team.
• 21:31
Speaker 10: Everything new on race day.
• 21:33
Speaker 10: I don't try any of my costumes on, basically until that morning, so you find out some stuff real quick after about a mile or sometimes a half a mile.
• 21:42
Speaker 10: That, yep, this doesn't work.
• 21:43
Speaker 6: So listen to Kay.
• 21:44
Speaker 6: Oh well well, that's right.
• 21:47
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not going to run around in some of the costumes the taping has forever um it's and I still have scars.
• 21:55
Speaker 9: So I don't think I'll be forgetting very long time that everything will be a practice run before I get to the race and laugh at the crazy faces.
• 22:07
Speaker 9: You see, if you're doing it at home, right, because we have listeners that may not be going to a Disney race, right, and they might be running in their local town.
• 22:17
  Speaker 9: So have fun.
• 22:19
Speaker 9: If there's a theme for that race, go for it there and just laugh when you see the cameras come out.
• 22:26
Speaker 2: You might be a later, who knows um, but embrace it, embrace it margaret, how about your uh, your first time tips, uh, for you know new run disney runners to the costume game I would say for those that are on ec, not quite sure you you know what they want to do or how much they want to do.
• 22:48
Speaker 8: Just start kind of small.
• 22:49
Speaker 8: And I know one of your favorite companies too.
• 22:52
Speaker 8: It's like Hawaiian Pizza Apparel.
• 22:53
Speaker 8: They have all these athletic material dresses, shirts, jogging pants that you can get, that have it printed on them, have the different characters dresses printed on them.
• 23:08
Speaker 8: It's, for example, um, that you can wear for your first few races and then after that.
• 23:13
Speaker 8: Then just add to it little by little, like at maybe the next time is something more complex, you add a small item to carry a prop, then Then you keep building up from that.
• 23:24
Speaker 8: That's pretty much kind of what I did, and I've gotten to the point where now I've worn literal gowns to run in for 10K or used residential insulation board material to make costumes out of, like the guitar that I did.
• 23:43
Speaker 6: Yeah, that was amazing.
• 23:45
  Speaker 8: So it's like.
• 23:45
Speaker 8: But it all started small and being built upon and also trying out your things.
• 23:52
Speaker 8: I do try, but sometimes I don't necessarily try my outfits on and go run in them.
• 23:58
Speaker 8: Sometimes what I do I may just put them on at home and just kind of do things around the house, go up and down, just so I can see how my body moves in it.
• 24:06
Speaker 8: For example, if you don't feel comfortable going out which sometimes I've gone for training runs some of my outfits too but if you don't feel comfortable in that, then just do something around your house, just make sure it's not.
• 24:18
Speaker 8: But if you're doing laundry, you're stooping down, going up, whatever you know, you know it's all the same thing.
• 24:24
Speaker 6: But Becky laughs at me when I do that.
• 24:26
Speaker 6: I remember the guitar.
• 24:29
Speaker 6: You and you and Kristen were guitars at the same time, we were, we were both awesome.
• 24:36
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 24:36
Speaker 2: And Kristen, why don't you bring us home with at least this topic of first time tips?
• 24:42
Speaker 7: So I agree with Margaret, if you are wanting to dip your toe in, if you will start small.
• 24:48
Speaker 7: So my first run Disney race, I had a uh, minnie mouse polka dot skirt that I bought secondhand off of the run Disney run marketplace, um, and I had a black tank top and I wore Minnie mouse ears and that was my first ever run Disney race.
• 25:06
Speaker 7: That was the princess 10 K in 2019.
• 25:09
Speaker 7: And to this day, that is still my most favorite I think one of my most favorite finish line pictures, cause it was like the joy of oh my gosh, I just crossed my first Disney finish line Like this is so exciting.
• 25:24
Speaker 7: But I started small and then something that I did was every race after that.
• 25:30
Speaker 7: I kind of saw what people were doing and wondered how I could make that meet my needs here.
• 25:37
Speaker 7: What could I do on my own or what could I outsource, and is it going to cost me my firstborn and a kidney to do you know?
• 25:45
Speaker 7: But always start small and then start to add on once you get comfortable.
• 25:52
Speaker 7: I would not advise.
• 25:53
Speaker 7: I would not advise if you've never run in costume before, don't go completely zero to 60 in 2.2 seconds and just go like the most outrageous thing you can think of because you might get a rude awakening on race day.
• 26:11
Speaker 7: Um, but definitely, if you have a vision, go for it.
• 26:15
Speaker 7: And I'm also big on.
• 26:17
Speaker 7: I wouldn't say maybe not necessarily nothing new on race day.
• 26:22
Speaker 7: Um, maybe 50, 50 new on race day.
• 26:25
Speaker 7: Usually, everything that I wear that is like touching my, my body is stuff that I know works for me and the other parts are things that go over that.
• 26:34
Speaker 7: So I know that the shorts that I'm wearing I do well in, or I know that the base tank top is something that I do well in, and everything else on top of that is is just, you know, gravy.
• 26:46
Speaker 10: So I was going to say, like you were saying, don't you know, carry a prop or something.
• 26:51
Speaker 10: Your first couple of runs, think of it as your when you're training, for you know we're all getting into the longer runs of dopey training and whatnot.
• 26:58
Speaker 10: So the first time you're on 12 miles it's like, oh man, I got to run 12 miles.
• 27:10
Speaker 10: Next time you gotta go do it.
• 27:11
Speaker 10: You've done it before, so it's, it's not as bad.
• 27:12
Speaker 10: So think of that when you're carrying a prop, doing a more intricate costume, wearing a wig, done that.
• 27:14
Speaker 10: You know like, once you, you know, run a half marathon and you carried something small, all right, now carry something bigger.
• 27:18
Speaker 10: Now coming to wine and dine, this year I'm carrying a larger object and my, my wife was shopping this weekend and said how big is too big?
• 27:28
Speaker 10: How are you going to carry this?
• 27:29
Speaker 10: And my response was I don't care, I'll figure it out, because I've carried so much stuff now for a half marathon that I don't care, I'll figure it out, I'll do something.
• 27:36
Speaker 10: So it's, it's just like running the miles, the further, the longer you go.
• 27:41
Speaker 10: You know, all right, next time I do this, I know I, I can do that.
• 27:43
Speaker 10: You know, I've done it before.
• 27:45
Speaker 10: So it's, it's building your body up to that.
• 27:47
Speaker 6: So you're saying you could carry me.
• 27:50
  Speaker 10: I don't know.
• 27:51
Speaker 10: I mean, my object's going to be light but it's going to be decently large, so it's I don't know what I'm going to do with it Most way a good amount.
• 28:04
Speaker 10: So I carried that the entire race.
• 28:06
Speaker 10: Hey, photopass is coming, throw my hat on, run with it for that little bit.
• 28:10
Speaker 3: Take it off and carry it.
• 28:11
Speaker 10: So you know, when it comes to things like that heavy objects, hats, like you're totally fine carrying it.
• 28:17
Speaker 10: No one's going to call you out for carrying your object or whatever.
• 28:20
Speaker 10: But when PhotoPass is coming, be ready.
• 28:31
Speaker 6: That's why you carried this the entire duration.
• 28:32
Speaker 6: It's for these specific time frames of the race.
• 28:34
Speaker 6: So yeah, just in general.
• 28:34
Speaker 9: Consider the length of the race, too, you can do more in a 5k than you can do in a half.
• 28:37
Speaker 9: I was just thinking too, with the length of the race and especially what we're about to um be faced with in a couple days 100 degree weather, consider the temperature that you're running in.
• 28:48
Speaker 9: And for those that are running in Florida, if we're talking about Disney races, depending on the time of the year, right, springtime surprise versus marathon weekend, are you somebody that gets hot and how are you going to manage that?
• 29:04
Speaker 9: I think on a Zoom, one time I was telling Tony, like you can throw the ice under the headpiece right to keep your body cool.
• 29:12
Speaker 9: But I do think that those are things to consider to the weather and the layers, to your costume, because this is fun, right, guys?
• 29:21
  Speaker 9: It really is.
• 29:22
Speaker 9: It is a joy, but you want to be safe, you want to cross the finish line, and so just make sure that you're considering all those factors that you need to consider.
• 29:34
Speaker 3: Before I ask my question, I did want to just share with our listeners.
• 29:39
Speaker 3: Kay had mentioned Disney bounding and this is a term that I actually recently learned.
• 29:44
Speaker 3: Disney bounding and this is a term that I actually recently learned and essentially and correct me if I'm wrong, guys it's just theming your outfit to a character, so not being in a full costume, but theming.
• 29:54
Speaker 3: So I just wanted to clarify that for people who may not know, like I didn't know until a week ago.
• 29:59
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's, people aren't getting around a rule, but there's a rule at Disney parks that adults can't dress up in costume.
• 30:04
Speaker 6: Normally you can for a race, but you can't normally.
• 30:07
Speaker 6: So the bounding kind of skirts, that a little bit Skirt skirt, no pun intended.
• 30:17
Speaker 3: So that's what I usually do, even for my run Disney costumes, and those are type of things that you can buy, and you all have alluded to buying some of your pieces that you use for costumes as well as making them.
• 30:27
Speaker 3: So my question is for the pieces that you make, is there any special tools or skills that are needed to make these?
• 30:37
Speaker 3: That might make it a little bit easier for our friends who want to make some of the pieces for the costume or whole thing.
• 30:45
Speaker 8: Um, let's start with you, margaret well, one thing that I was using but now I probably restricted on the rules was residential uh insulation boards, because they're super light but they're super so you can cut around them and then they're super durable.
• 31:01
Speaker 8: You can attach things to them.
• 31:03
Speaker 8: You could make like a harness that'll go over your um shoulders to set it in place.
• 31:09
Speaker 8: So that was one thing I was using.
• 31:11
Speaker 8: Um, I mean, I'll still continue to use that for other type costumes too, but that's one thing.
• 31:16
Speaker 8: Um, that's been helpful.
• 31:17
Speaker 8: The other thing I'd say, um, especially this last season, I kind of mastered the carrying something big like constantly on your arm.
• 31:27
Speaker 8: So for like um one and dine 5k, I was Alice in Wonderland with the tea party table and do a tea party table around our bodies, cause that was my intent Originally.
• 31:39
Speaker 8: I was like I'll make it a prop.
• 31:41
Speaker 8: So I basically used a basket, because it's light.
• 31:45
Speaker 8: Um, that had two big handles turned it around.
• 31:48
Speaker 8: That became my table.
• 31:49
Speaker 8: But then, um, one thing that I needed to make sure was that it's going to be secure for the duration of a 5k, but not something that was going to be too rigid.
• 31:59
Speaker 8: So I've used um elastic a lot to that, because you want something that's going to have some give to it.
• 32:06
Speaker 8: If you have something that's too sturdy, also, not only is it going to grind into your skin, but then there's also a larger chance of it busting and breaking because you're constantly pounding the pavement.
• 32:17
Speaker 8: It's not like you're just at a party standing around.
• 32:19
Speaker 8: And then I did that also for the 5K for Princess.
• 32:25
Speaker 8: I was Ariel in her pink dress.
• 32:27
Speaker 8: When she's sitting at the dinner table, sebastian comes out on the dinner tray.
• 32:32
Speaker 8: So I was carrying Sebastian on the dinner tray and then I just basically he was a stuffed animal.
• 32:38
Speaker 8: So what I did was I created loops on the bottom of him just with thread, and then I used the elastic to go into those loops that then went around my arm.
• 32:48
Speaker 8: So then that way it was easy to carry it for all the three miles.
• 32:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, so those are kind of some pointers.
• 32:55
  Speaker 3: That's great.
• 32:56
Speaker 3: How about you, kristen?
• 32:59
Speaker 7: uh, I have learned to love and adore the hot glue gun.
• 33:03
Speaker 7: Okay, the hot glue gun will be your best friend.
• 33:07
Speaker 7: In fact, mine travels with me to every race weekend.
• 33:12
Speaker 7: Now that that will do a lot for you in a pinch.
• 33:16
Speaker 7: The other thing that I have found that's really good is the iron.
• 33:20
Speaker 7: I'm not a seamstress by like any far stretch of the imagination.
• 33:25
Speaker 7: I don't take any credit for anything, um, but I can hot glue.
• 33:29
Speaker 7: I really like the ironing.
• 33:32
Speaker 7: I think it's like hemming tape is what they call it.
• 33:34
Speaker 7: It's what you can put.
• 33:35
Speaker 7: Um, it's like a S, yeah, and you like fold the fabric over and then you iron it and it becomes it sticks anyway.
• 33:42
Speaker 7: Um, that's been great to to him stuff um in a pinch.
• 33:48
  Speaker 7: Um.
• 33:48
Speaker 7: Another thing is safety pins, cause things may not look quite the way you envisioned them, but a quick little safety pin will get you where you need to be.
• 33:56
Speaker 7: Um, I get a lot of my stuff from Amazon, so I get like my little vision board together of what I want to do and then I start sourcing out where I can maybe get those pieces.
• 34:08
Speaker 7: And Amazon is the goat like greatest of all time.
• 34:12
Speaker 7: Amazon, thank you, mr Amazon, jeff Bezos.
• 34:18
Speaker 7: Anyway, the other thing that I have found that I love to do and really makes a big statement is I love to bedazzle everything.
• 34:27
Speaker 7: There's something about those rhinestones with those, especially the races, that the bulk of them are in the dark.
• 34:33
  Speaker 7: So you're five and 10 K.
• 34:34
Speaker 7: Uh, the way that that stuff will sparkle underneath those photo pass lights, it just adds a little bit extra.
• 34:40
Speaker 7: There's just a little bit extra there.
• 34:42
Speaker 7: Um, so I have bedazzled a whole heck of a lot this last season and we'll continue to do so in the season ahead.
• 34:49
  Speaker 7: Spoiler alert.
• 34:53
Speaker 3: So, tony, I know that you had said that your wife helps you with some of your costumes, but what else do you use to help make them?
• 35:02
Speaker 10: I think it's fun to like look at the most random thing and be like I can use that for my costume, like Margaret talked about, like adhering a prop to you.
• 35:12
Speaker 10: Only at Run Disney do you do something like that.
• 35:14
Speaker 10: When I was Sonny Eclipse, I had a piano around my waist and I bought like a kid's piano and I'm like, all right now what?
• 35:21
Speaker 10: And I was like, oh well, maybe if I get some some hangers on here.
• 35:23
Speaker 10: And then I bought a football belt and and I was like, oh well, maybe if I get some some hangers on here.
• 35:25
Speaker 10: And then I bought a football belt and then I was able to tie that to the football belt so I could take it on and off easily.
• 35:31
Speaker 10: And then it stayed flat in front of me so I could actually play it.
• 35:35
Speaker 10: Um, so it's just.
• 35:36
Speaker 10: You just stumble upon random things.
• 35:39
Speaker 10: I have a note, the notes app on my phone.
• 35:41
Speaker 10: If I think of something, I save it in there.
• 35:43
Speaker 10: Whenever I think of a costume idea, save it in there, come back to it.
• 35:47
Speaker 10: Um, so it's just you.
• 35:49
Speaker 10: You stumble upon some of the most random things, or you hear from other people hey, I've done this, like kristen was saying with you know safety pins or whatnot, even on race morning.
• 35:58
Speaker 10: Um, when I wore wings when I was skunk figment last year, they were just elastic over my shoulder and before we even started it was already digging into my body.
• 36:06
Speaker 10: And my friend, dan, that I was running with, happened to have safety pins on him, so he pinned it to my back and then it didn't bother me the entire race.
• 36:14
Speaker 10: So when you're in the corrals, you never know what people have on them to help modify your costume in the moment and whatnot.
• 36:29
Speaker 10: So it's like, just always have an open mind, see what other people are doing and think, oh, maybe I can use that for this down the road.
• 36:32
  Speaker 10: So it's always.
• 36:32
Speaker 10: You're constantly learning, people are constantly upping the game and the ideas, and I think that's the fun part about this you never know what you're going to see at a weekend.
• 36:37
  Speaker 10: It's nothing.
• 36:37
Speaker 10: It's never the same.
• 36:38
Speaker 10: It's always oh, my God, so-and-so did this, so-and-so did that, and it just keeps building weekend after weekend.
• 36:51
Speaker 7: The other thing too that that's good and is cost-effective is reusing elements of prior costumes.
• 36:54
Speaker 7: For example, my still to this day my most favorite 10K costume that I've done was the Jolly Holiday Mary Poppins and that white skirt.
• 37:02
Speaker 7: I took the red bows off and then reused it for my Donald, which was the half marathon this last January at Disney world.
• 37:12
Speaker 7: And now I've got.
• 37:14
Speaker 7: You know you can do anything with a white skirt.
• 37:16
Speaker 7: So always keep what you think you can reuse.
• 37:19
Speaker 7: Obviously, if it's like very specific to a particular character probably can't reuse that unless you want to redo that character again.
• 37:26
Speaker 7: But things like you know your base layer or, like I said, the skirt, you can reuse that and that saves you money down the road that you can then put into intricate things Like Tony was saying the piano then and um, other things, like Margaret was saying you know the table, the basket, all of that kind of stuff.
• 37:44
Speaker 7: It can be done not terribly bank breaking if you will.
• 37:58
Speaker 8: And also to add so to Tony's trouble item of having something dig into your body up top.
• 38:00
Speaker 8: What I've done is I buy athletic material at the store and basically just create a strap myself.
• 38:05
Speaker 8: It's just straight line sewing.
• 38:07
Speaker 8: Create a strap and then what I do to adhere it to whatever material it is.
• 38:12
Speaker 8: I use Velcro Because if you're constantly moving and it'll on Velcro as opposed to breaking off the piece and you could always just push Velcro back on where it breaks off and you're out there with a broken piece that's hanging out.
• 38:26
Speaker 8: So just a tidbit on that.
• 38:29
  Speaker 3: Great.
• 38:29
Speaker 3: Is there anything that you use that our other friends haven't mentioned yet?
• 38:35
Speaker 9: Everything I've said, margaret, I wish I would have talked to you before I moved my costumes this summer for the virtual challenge, because everything was falling apart.
• 38:45
Speaker 9: I did try the hot glue with elastic to keep the two sides together and they 100 pulled apart while I was running.
• 38:53
Speaker 9: I was just grateful it was a 5k um.
• 38:57
Speaker 9: But even in the sun, right, you're sweating and you don't realize that what is secure when you're just walking.
• 39:04
Speaker 9: So once you start sweating it it can, depending on the material you use, can fall apart.
• 39:11
  Speaker 9: Um.
• 39:11
Speaker 9: And then, kristen, I agree with you reuse.
• 39:14
Speaker 9: I am just like you guys.
• 39:15
Speaker 9: Once I spent some money on these costumes.
• 39:17
Speaker 9: I am not a one and done for some of them because I don't make all of mine for some of them what I paid.
• 39:24
Speaker 9: Oh, you're gonna see it again.
• 39:25
Speaker 9: Okay, I will find a theme that fits.
• 39:33
Speaker 9: Or, like you all said, I'm gonna smash.
• 39:35
Speaker 9: Is that what it's?
• 39:36
Speaker 9: all the little costume smash, yeah, oh, matt yeah, mashup oh, mashup, okay, yeah, okay, edit that, edit that great no, it's just the new term, that's all it is.
• 39:51
Speaker 7: No, I agree, in fact, um, my captain america from the 5k, uh, disneyland.
• 39:56
Speaker 7: Back in january I had to.
• 39:58
Speaker 7: I told my husband because that dress was not cheap.
• 40:01
Speaker 7: So I was like I will wear this to church.
• 40:04
Speaker 7: He was like no, you will not.
• 40:06
Speaker 7: And I was like no, but I will find other places to wear it because it can't just be seen that one time.
• 40:12
Speaker 7: And and actually wore it on the on the Disney cruise, on the wish, when we went to the Marvel restaurant.
• 40:18
Speaker 7: So you know you, you find reasons to pay that kind of money.
• 40:23
Speaker 7: But I was like.
• 40:24
Speaker 7: I was like no, I will straight up go to church in my Captain America dress.
• 40:28
Speaker 9: I love it, and you know you brought up Amazon.
• 40:31
Speaker 9: I will say to, typically, especially now, right, they give us the theme like pretty much right before you register, and the wheels start turning then for me, and so a lot of times I'll start searching on amazon early to price, because I'll start pricing things.
• 40:50
Speaker 9: So I'll throw them all in the car and then move them to save for later so I can watch prices, um, and see if, okay, now do I want to push the button because there's a really great deal, um, and so it just helps.
• 41:04
Speaker 9: Also and I am, I've been heightened more now than ever in my life, which I don't understand, but I don't like last minute, so it just helps to like get it, and in some cases there's why Amazon's great.
• 41:19
Speaker 9: I've ordered something and it didn't fit well or it didn't look exactly like I thought it was going to, so I can send that back and then redo, or I might just have to scrap that idea all together and come up with another one.
• 41:35
Speaker 9: So, um, as far as it advances, you can start thinking through.
• 41:40
Speaker 9: Unless you know, you just live life on the edge and it works for you yeah, amazon is gold for the try on and return.
• 41:50
Speaker 10: Yes, for the 10k at springtime I wore women's shorts, so I ordered like seven pairs because I was like I don't know what size I am and you know, tried all these different things on and yeah, so I was able just to return them.
• 42:05
Speaker 10: It was super easy and those shorts are will make an appearance at winding down soine, so getting two wears out of them.
• 42:12
  Speaker 5: There you go.
• 42:14
  Speaker 6: Good move.
• 42:14
Speaker 6: I'm just going to throw this out.
• 42:17
Speaker 6: Another place I've found for buying stuff is Halloweencom.
• 42:21
Speaker 1: Good stuff there With the costumes.
• 42:23
Speaker 1: I know Margaret and Kristen had great VHS costumes back for the 2023 marathon weekend theme races.
• 42:31
Speaker 1: That stuff is probably kind of frowned upon now by run disney highly frowned upon, yes.
• 42:37
Speaker 1: So think about that when you're designing your costume.
• 42:41
Speaker 1: They do have a costumes guideline on the race weekend what's doable and what's not doable.
• 42:48
Speaker 1: I know it's what do you want to call it?
• 42:50
Speaker 1: Discretion of the cast member coming in.
• 42:53
Speaker 1: So have a backup plan that you know what.
• 42:55
Speaker 1: Okay, I'm trying this, but if my wings are too big, they might have to go away.
• 43:01
Speaker 1: Or if my trident is, you know, too pointy, it might have to go away.
• 43:06
Speaker 1: How do you guys deal with that?
• 43:09
Speaker 7: and just know too that when you there, if you make it through, there's no safe spot.
• 43:15
Speaker 7: So you know, like people would say, oh well, you're safe once you get into, like in the races, you're safe once you get to world showcase.
• 43:22
Speaker 7: And now we've all learned that's not true.
• 43:23
Speaker 7: Um, the same is true with the costumes.
• 43:26
Speaker 7: If you make it through security, you're not safe by any means because those aren't run Disney people that are there and I know that was kind of the initial thought was, oh well, they'll just catch you at the security and pull you there.
• 43:39
Speaker 7: Um, I know that, uh, my very good friend, tara, who was the gray stuff during Princess, she was actually pulled as she was going to the corral and told that her costume was too wide and so she had to undo some of the um the netting that she had underneath it to bulk it up in order to make it more, more narrow so they can pull.
• 44:03
Speaker 7: I mean they can, they can come to you with a violation if you will, um, and at any point, and they were very nice about it, that's.
• 44:11
Speaker 7: The other thing is, if you get, if you get, you know chastise is not the right word, but if you get asked to modify your costume.
• 44:18
Speaker 7: They're not doing that to ruin your day, they're doing that for the safety of the other runners.
• 44:23
Speaker 7: And Tara even said, like you know, yes, like she was very much taking up the space of two people.
• 44:30
Speaker 7: And if you've been in those corrals before, you know how, especially once they get moving, it gets so very, very tight in there.
• 44:37
Speaker 7: So it's just, um, take that into consideration when you're planning things like that what your, your, you know body habitus will do to other people around you.
• 44:50
Speaker 7: Um, I was very conscious of that.
• 44:51
Speaker 7: I think we've talked about this before.
• 44:53
Speaker 7: The springtime surprise 10 K, when we were the Mike Wazowski getting Mike Wazowski and I was carrying the barcode um, in the corral I had that thing flipped up as a like long ways so that it was only it wasn't as wide as my body, cause when it was out just in this, you know, I was you know, not on purpose scratching people, um, with the corners of it, like I felt horrible Most of that run, I had it up in front of me the wrong way and then, like Tony said, you see the photo pass and you fix everything the way it needs to be and then you get your picture and go.
• 45:27
Speaker 8: So, um, just be conscious of that and obviously check the Ren Disney website for those criteria, because they have changed so yeah, and from what I understand, the main point where they do check for that is right when you're going to your perhaps.
• 45:43
Speaker 8: So if something is questionable, I would say to probably go on the earlier side, because that way part of your adjustment plan is like you may need to throw something back in, back check or whatever you will have time, and then you're not stressing out about that.
• 45:56
Speaker 8: Um, and the other thing I would add too so to john's comment about the vhs, um, uh, costumes is that when kristin and I did them they were above our shoulders, off to the side a few inches, not too bad, and then below our knees mine was below my knees.
• 46:17
Speaker 8: Mine was right above because I had the bruise to prove it if you were to want to do something like that, what I would say would probably work now is you just make it smaller and just have it be like the size of your body that it doesn't protrude out that's what they said and make sure that it's open.
• 46:39
Speaker 8: So ours were closed on one side.
• 46:41
Speaker 8: They have to have it visible from the inside.
• 46:44
Speaker 8: So just put a strap over your shoulders, on both shoulders, that that way you can carry it kind of like a signage in front and in the back.
• 46:51
  Speaker 8: Make it smaller.
• 46:52
Speaker 7: but I mean, if that's an idea you still want to go with, at least you can still do something like that yeah, that's what ours, ours was, because ours we could open and then we have the VHS box inside, I mean the the tape itself inside.
• 47:06
Speaker 7: So we had it our, it sat on our shoulder and then we had the little loop of elastic where we could hold the other part of it closed and then when we would come up to flash somebody, we would drop that elastic and then open up the box and there would be our VHS tape.
• 47:26
Speaker 7: But I think that's the other thing too, like you said, is it has to be, it can't.
• 47:30
Speaker 7: It can't potentially conceal something, Put whatever you'd like to in that something.
• 47:38
  Speaker 7: You know term.
• 47:39
Speaker 7: But that's the big thing is they're not wanting you to.
• 47:41
Speaker 7: You know smuggle in a small child pictures consider the reunion area, the pictures beforehand.
• 47:48
Speaker 9: So what I did was, um, when I was Mrs Potts you know Mrs Potts is big, like she's a big peapod there were attachments, like a round thing that allowed the costume to like to shape.
• 48:03
Speaker 9: I had it in the truck, the um bag check in my bag, so I didn't run with it, so that I was still within guidelines.
• 48:13
Speaker 9: But when we were done I inserted them in the costume the way I wanted it to be seen.
• 48:21
Speaker 9: And I also did it with um, I can't remember what.
• 48:24
Speaker 9: Um, oh, I think I was the ace, like one of the cards that had the staff like, like the stage staff.
• 48:31
Speaker 9: So it had like four attachments but their length was 36 inches, I think.
• 48:42
Speaker 9: So I took some of the attachments off and those were in my truck, I mean in the bag set, and again at the end I had the real staff for a photo.
• 48:50
Speaker 9: So these are just.
• 48:51
Speaker 9: You know, I don't know how you all are, you know those listening.
• 48:55
Speaker 9: If you don't want too much carrying with you, then that's fine.
• 48:58
Speaker 9: You know you adapt.
• 48:59
Speaker 9: But if you don't mind being it, that's an option too to still capture the vision you had for your costume, but not give our cast members a hard time.
• 49:11
Speaker 9: Think, kristin, I think you might have been the one I was listening to.
• 49:13
Speaker 7: I think what she was saying was, um, that I had mentioned in my event guide when all those changed, all those rules came up.
• 49:21
  Speaker 7: Change that.
• 49:22
Speaker 7: Do not take your anger out on those cast members like I will.
• 49:26
Speaker 3: Southern mom twist a earlobe out to the parking lot, if I see somebody being rude to cast members.
• 49:33
  Speaker 7: I remember that's not a threat, that's a promise.
• 49:37
Speaker 6: She means it kids.
• 49:38
  Speaker 7: I mean it.
• 49:40
Speaker 6: This is fun, guys.
• 49:41
Speaker 6: I've learned to love costumes recently.
• 49:45
Speaker 6: I'm not going to go around on this because not everybody may have an answer, but let me just ask generally any costuming mistakes or regrets or fails you might want to talk about.
• 49:59
  Speaker 8: Yes.
• 50:00
Speaker 6: Okay, go for it.
• 50:03
Speaker 7: It wasn't so much in the planning and execution of the costume itself, it was my attaching of the bib to it.
• 50:11
Speaker 7: The costume itself, it was my attaching of the bib to it.
• 50:16
Speaker 7: If you are like me, you were, I think I we've talked about this before I went.
• 50:18
Speaker 7: You know the perfect season, 2022 to 2023, and never used a porta potty that entire season and I really stand during the races Period.
• 50:29
Speaker 6: Oh, porta potty Period.
• 50:32
Speaker 7: So I I'm quite proud of that.
• 50:34
Speaker 7: I feel like I need some sort of badge or whatnot for that, but anyway, um so, but if you're like me and I know a lot of people are you hold it until you get into the parks, because there are real bathrooms there and there's nothing like a real bathroom.
• 50:48
Speaker 7: There's just really not.
• 50:49
Speaker 7: So the morning of the 10k for princess this last year, uh, we were the princess, uh baseball team and we made it into the backstage of hollywood studios and I have held it about as long as I can hold it and I get, and of course there's a line, because why wouldn't there be?
• 51:09
Speaker 7: And so, anyway, I get into the stall and I realized that I have pinned my bib through my skirt, into my shorts, underneath into the tights I was wearing and into my shirt.
• 51:23
Speaker 7: So I was in there, I was ripping everything off to try.
• 51:27
  Speaker 7: It was awful.
• 51:28
Speaker 7: So just make sure, just make sure when you are attaching that bib it is to the proper amount of layers so that if you get in a pickle in the bathroom you don't have an accident trying to get everything unpinned and and whatnot.
• 51:42
Speaker 7: So that you know, um.
• 51:45
Speaker 7: The other one I had was the Tiana hat that same weekend for the um half marathon.
• 51:50
Speaker 7: That did not, um, it was meant to sit kind of not straight on your head but kind of off to the side, and one of the combs that I had put in it to hold it into my hair broke off, uh right, as we were about to start, cause I was repositioning it and I felt this like snap inside of it.
• 52:09
Speaker 7: I like oh no, because I knew it was not going to stay on my head, just on its own volition.
• 52:16
Speaker 7: So, um, so I had to hold that for most of that race and only put it on when the um get only close to the uh uh photo pass of course yes, yeah, so, and that's why in all of my photo pass pictures that hat is in a different spot each one, because it's just whichever I could put it up and get it on my head for.
• 52:37
Speaker 6: So yeah, hey, you've got a regret.
• 52:41
  Speaker 6: What is it?
• 52:43
Speaker 9: Stay away from one pieces of everyone and I put it turns into a scuba when wet Scuba gear.
• 52:51
Speaker 9: I'm in a porta potty peeling that thing off with limited space and because I'm back of corral, well used porta potty.
• 53:03
Speaker 6: Oh enough said Nope, nope, nope, nope.
• 53:06
  Speaker 6: Enough said yeah.
• 53:15
  Speaker 10: I have a few.
• 53:15
Speaker 10: I have one porta potty related, my first dopey, the 5k.
• 53:17
Speaker 10: I ran as a jamaican bobsledder and the zipper was on the back and I had to go to the bathroom after the race and I had to find someone to unzip it for me oh my I remember he was screwed mcduck and then he ripped off a coin off his costume and handed it to me.
• 53:30
Speaker 10: Then he zipped me up after.
• 53:32
Speaker 10: The most painful one was my first marathon.
• 53:35
Speaker 10: Also that same weekend, my first dopey I wore a compression shirt, Not highly recommended for that distance.
• 53:43
Speaker 10: Let's just say my nipples had better days.
• 53:46
Speaker 10: It was insanely painful.
• 53:48
Speaker 10: But live and learn.
• 53:51
Speaker 10: So that's why you should always try your stuff on before you race in it.
• 53:56
Speaker 6: Guys, what's the favorite costume you've run in and what's the favorite costume you've seen somebody else run in?
• 54:05
Speaker 10: My favorite costume I've seen someone run in would be Fred, when he was the Hatbox Ghost.
• 54:10
Speaker 10: That blew my mind when I saw him that morning.
• 54:13
Speaker 10: Uh, he always does incredible costumes.
• 54:16
Speaker 10: Excited, excited to see his disneyland costumes coming up here.
• 54:20
Speaker 10: Um, but he always, he always knocks it out of the park.
• 54:23
Speaker 10: Um, my favorite it might be sunny eclipse, just because it was such a random one that my wife and I got out of the park in the hat and then making the jacket, having the piano that would explain why the hat is still on your head, although it's an audio only podcast.
• 54:42
  Speaker 10: But that's cool, that's cool.
• 54:43
Speaker 10: I love it um, but it's either that or probably, dr Facilier.
• 54:48
Speaker 10: Those are two of the fun ones that I've done.
• 54:51
Speaker 9: I think I have a toss-up on a favorite I've done, and it would either be the.
• 54:57
Speaker 9: Lion King theme from this springtime surprise and the level of commitment with that face.
• 55:04
  Speaker 6: Oh yes.
• 55:06
Speaker 9: And also I went as Black Ariel during Princess Land and so it was just fun to just step outside and to do it different in that representation and the one that I can remember it was, I think she's part of our Rise and Run community.
• 55:24
Speaker 9: She was the snack bag, like the gear bag.
• 55:30
Speaker 9: I don't know if you all remember there was a picture and she did a costume, had plastic and it had all the different snacks on it.
• 55:38
Speaker 8: So if you're listening when you listen to this, please leave a comment and let everybody see the picture I'm talking about margaret, anything stand out with you yeah, it's always so hard to pick a favorite costume, um, especially when there's so much time and work that goes into them and thought, but I would say, um, actually, my first costume of the season, which was the alice in wonderland with the tea party table um, because I had to readjust from my initial plan of what I was going to do and I had like this grand plan and then disney put out those new rules, but then I was like, okay, how can I modify this to still do what I wanted to do?
• 56:16
Speaker 8: And I had so much fun making that small tea party table and carrying it around, and I also carried around little teacups too, so I would have tea parties people along the way.
• 56:25
Speaker 8: It was a lot of fun.
• 56:27
Speaker 8: And then also I loved, during springtime, surprise my husband and I.
• 56:35
Speaker 8: He ran that one with me for the 10k.
• 56:37
Speaker 8: We did Carl and Ellie as young aviators, so we wanted to do a different version of them and that was fun doing it.
• 56:44
Speaker 8: And my daughter also ran that one too, so she was ruffled and that was so fun being able to do do like a couples theme like that that I don't normally get to do.
• 56:53
Speaker 8: But also because I ran that one in actual overalls, jean overalls.
• 56:59
Speaker 8: So did a 10k in jean overalls, and again, it's one of those things like you have to work up to it and eventually get there and just feel and know that to a certain degree there is going to be some level of discomfort and know that, um, you just have to pace yourself and take it easy.
• 57:17
Speaker 8: Um, so yeah, but it was so much fun to really be very original with that and like really do just actual genes you have to embrace the suck yeah, you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable.
• 57:33
Speaker 7: I've heard that, but it's all for fun, I think my favorite one that I've done.
• 57:39
Speaker 7: Gosh, mine's a toss up between three.
• 57:43
Speaker 7: It's the Mary Poppins, the jolly holiday, Mary Poppins Cause.
• 57:48
Speaker 7: That one was so fun because I had Tara and our friend Amanda were the penguins with me on that and it was oh it was.
• 57:56
Speaker 6: Tara is a great partner.
• 57:58
Speaker 6: She is a great, isn't she, though?
• 58:00
  Speaker 7: she's a mess and a half.
• 58:01
Speaker 7: I just love her, in fact we were.
• 58:04
Speaker 7: I was talking to her on the phone not too long before we started recording this.
• 58:07
Speaker 7: We were planning our more costumes.
• 58:09
Speaker 7: So you know, um, the, the friends that costume together stay together.
• 58:14
Speaker 7: Um, but no, that one's one.
• 58:17
Speaker 7: And then, princess 10k from 22, when I was ballerina beast, when I had that big pancake tutu that was royal blue and I was the beast and I was carrying the mirror and um, just that one was very much outside of my comfort zone, um, and I can't think of a time that I felt prettier.
• 58:40
Speaker 7: So there you go, um.
• 58:42
Speaker 7: And then the last toss up is my perfect season um, for the 10 miler, for springtime in 23, cause that was a piece of every costume that whole season.
• 58:53
  Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, um.
• 58:55
Speaker 7: And then my favorite one that I've seen um, there's so many, cause everyone is so very, very good at this.
• 59:03
Speaker 7: Now, um, there's just I can't really pinpoint a favorite that I've seen yes, I can, yes, I can Tara's rose from the 5k of princess, where she was the rose.
• 59:14
Speaker 7: She had, like, the leaves as hands and then her face was, um, the big rose, and she was running around going bloom where you're planted, like it was, it was, it was fantastic.
• 59:29
  Speaker 7: Um.
• 59:29
Speaker 7: So yeah, I think that one sticks out from from recent memory for sure.
• 59:35
  Speaker 6: Cool, all right.
• 59:36
Speaker 6: Nobody said Tinker Bob, so Greg, erase all that stuff, okay.
• 59:40
Speaker 7: Tinker Bob is my ultimate favorite.
• 59:42
Speaker 7: You didn't let me finish, it's too late.
• 59:45
Speaker 6: Too late, too late.
• 59:46
Speaker 8: I love you guys, I love you guys.
• 59:47
Speaker 8: Okay, I'm just joking.
• 59:48
Speaker 8: I do love that picture that we took.
• 59:48
Speaker 6: I love you guys.
• 59:49
Speaker 6: Okay, I'm just joking.
• 59:51
Speaker 8: I do love that picture that we took, bob, when I was Tinkerbell and you were Tinker, bob.
• 59:55
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, that was so fun.
• 59:57
  Speaker 6: It's fun stuff.
• 59:57
Speaker 6: I'm taking Tinker Bob to the West Coast, by the way.
• 1:00:00
Speaker 6: Yay, nice, I'll have it on Saturday.
• 1:00:03
Speaker 6: I'm wearing that wig in the fun.
• 1:00:08
Speaker 7: Put ice underneath it, put a sponge underneath it.
• 1:00:11
  Speaker 6: It won't work.
• 1:00:11
Speaker 6: It won't work, it barely fits as it is.
• 1:00:16
Speaker 6: But look, that's what I have you here for.
• 1:00:18
Speaker 6: Is your costume expertise?
• 1:00:21
  Speaker 6: Not me?
• 1:00:21
  Speaker 6: Let's see.
• 1:00:23
Speaker 6: I see a couple of questions here.
• 1:00:25
  Speaker 6: I know one of them's, john's, I think.
• 1:00:27
Speaker 6: He wants to ask.
• 1:00:29
Speaker 1: So, Tony, what's the proper SPF you need to use for your costumes?
• 1:00:34
Speaker 10: I don't wear any sunscreen when I run.
• 1:00:36
Speaker 10: I know bob always recommends wearing sunscreen when you run.
• 1:00:39
Speaker 10: Um, I don't wear any so but at uh one to nine 10k it shouldn't be light out yet by the time we finish.
• 1:00:48
Speaker 10: So I'll say daylight savings time is finally gonna play into your favor, sir but when I did finish the 10 miler at springtime I went to the med tent and I was like, all right, now I need it, so I'm gonna be at the beer tent.
• 1:01:00
Speaker 10: For how long I need it?
• 1:01:02
Speaker 6: I need sunscreen badly now when you don't wear a shirt, then you need the sunscreen.
• 1:01:08
Speaker 1: We have a little friendly competition.
• 1:01:10
Speaker 1: So Kay or Tony, who's going to make more run Disney socials this year?
• 1:01:18
  Speaker 1: Easily, Kay.
• 1:01:22
Speaker 2: Can we actually make this a Vegas betting line.
• 1:01:24
Speaker 2: Hopefully the SEC isn't listening to this or anything like that, and we get shut down, hopefully, like the sec isn't, like you know, listening to this or anything like that and we get shut down, but that that would be epic what's the over under?
• 1:01:38
Speaker 9: horrible question, it's all fun it's all yeah, I know, but no, I'm I'm tired, though I'm a shy adult, so we'll see what the questions are.
• 1:01:51
Speaker 9: I'm going to have wine and dine.
• 1:01:52
Speaker 10: The wine and dine 5K.
• 1:01:53
Speaker 10: I'll have Natalie and my wife with me, so I feel like Natalie bumps up my chances.
• 1:01:58
Speaker 6: Ooh, exceptions, we're not matching.
• 1:02:00
Speaker 10: We're going to have costumes.
• 1:02:01
Speaker 10: Our whole family is going to have costumes that go together, so might increase our chances there.
• 1:02:06
  Speaker 10: And it's Muppets.
• 1:02:07
Speaker 10: I know I'm very excited about my muppets costume like we won't be on theme that's right.
• 1:02:18
  Speaker 6: I'm doing a.
• 1:02:18
Speaker 6: I'm doing a reprise of a costume are you?
• 1:02:21
Speaker 7: are you, sam eagle?
• 1:02:22
Speaker 8: yeah yes I like sam sam, you just have to run around going, but mostly america mostly I do, I do okay I've, I've pretty much got it down I really love that they took uh food and wine back to food and wine yes it's like food centric and I loved all the themes that they did throughout the course the last few years, but I just really love that being very food centric because that just adds another dynamic of like creativity there friends, I'm gonna wrap this up here and let you go.
• 1:02:55
Speaker 6: I'm gonna let k get back to the oogie boogie bash and, uh, I need to get back to packing.
• 1:03:02
Speaker 6: But it's costumes are fun.
• 1:03:06
Speaker 6: It's been fun having you here, I hope.
• 1:03:09
  Speaker 6: I hope we've helped some.
• 1:03:10
Speaker 6: I hope we've given some folks who are maybe a little bit new or not sure about what they want to do for costumes, giving them an idea of how much fun this is and how much fun it can be just to do this.
• 1:03:19
Speaker 6: So thank you all very much.
• 1:03:22
Speaker 7: Also, can I just add, if you have any questions about costuming, if you want to bounce ideas, I know that all of us are on Instagram and would be more than happy to talk with you about that.
• 1:03:36
Speaker 6: So why don't you go ahead?
• 1:03:37
Speaker 6: Go through the handles.
• 1:03:38
  Speaker 6: Go ahead, kristen.
• 1:03:40
Speaker 6: Why don't you start?
• 1:03:41
Speaker 7: So I'm running in makeup, I mean.
• 1:03:44
Speaker 6: I know most people know that, but they can't see you.
• 1:03:47
  Speaker 6: Sure, yeah.
• 1:03:49
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, running in makeup on Instagram.

• 1:03:59
Speaker 2: Yep, tony, gb underscore raps gb because I'm from green bay and they're going to beat the eagles on friday, not if I have anything to say about it, my friend.
• 1:04:02
Speaker 6: Well, you don't have.
• 1:04:02
Speaker 6: You don't have anything to say about it, neither do I, neither does tony, but and it's raps r-a-p--S.
• 1:04:08
Speaker 6: Not with a W, okay, margaret.
• 1:04:12
Speaker 8: I'm running in crowns and gowns, with dots in between the letters, in between the words rather yeah, not every letter.
• 1:04:18
Speaker 6: No, yeah, and Kay.
• 1:04:22
Speaker 9: I'm glad you guys had me go last.
• 1:04:24
Speaker 9: We talked about this before we recorded.
• 1:04:26
Speaker 9: I'm not a social media person, active guys but I have seen people put questions in our Rise and Run group.
• 1:04:33
Speaker 9: You can drop them in there and when I'm in there I will chime right in, so you can send us there.
• 1:04:43
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a great point, kay, great point.
• 1:04:44
Speaker 6: The chat groups for the races are also a great place to put those questions.
• 1:04:49
Speaker 6: Well, once again, my friends, I very, very grateful to you for giving up all this time, love you, look forward to seeing you real soon.
• 1:04:59
Speaker 9: uh, k, I'll see you tomorrow and margaret, I'll see you tomorrow too, I guess yeah, which is actually yesterday.
• 1:05:08
  Speaker 6: I'll see you.
• 1:05:09
Speaker 6: I'll see you yesterday.
• 1:05:10
Speaker 8: I'm actually about to go pick up my rental to get me to Anaheim tomorrow good deal.
• 1:05:16
Speaker 9: I love you guys too.
• 1:05:17
Speaker 9: See all you guys at Wine and Dine so much fun bye, thank you that's a fun group.
• 1:05:25
Speaker 6: I really am grateful to them.
• 1:05:27
Speaker 6: Some tremendous costumes amongst those folks, but they're not alone.
• 1:05:31
Speaker 6: There are a great number of people that have costumes.
• 1:05:32
Speaker 6: I'm grateful to them.
• 1:05:32
Speaker 6: Some tremendous costumes amongst those folks, but they're not alone.
• 1:05:34
Speaker 6: There are a great number of people that have costumes.
• 1:05:36
Speaker 6: I went I'm about to kick off Disney race number 48 on Saturday.
• 1:05:42
Speaker 6: I probably went 35 or 40 before I wore my first costume and the thing and it was Sam Eagle and the thing that I loved about it I felt kind of funny at first for about 30 seconds and then I saw the reaction of everybody around me.
• 1:06:04
Speaker 6: Not only people knew me or that I knew, but just everybody.
• 1:06:08
Speaker 6: The reaction is oh, that's neat and it's just a lot of fun.
• 1:06:13
Speaker 6: And I've kind of gotten into it myself lately.
• 1:06:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel you, bob.
• 1:06:17
Speaker 1: I know when I did my first costume I kind of like bounded or bonded, whatever they call that.
• 1:06:25
Speaker 9: Yeah, that's cool yeah.
• 1:06:26
Speaker 1: I wore like a Star Wars shirt, like a Darth Vader shirt or a Stormtrooper shirt for my first couple races, because that was me.
• 1:06:33
Speaker 1: But my first costume where I'm dressed as animal, I'm walking down to the bus with this big wig on chain around my neck.
• 1:06:41
Speaker 1: I'm like people are going to think I'm whacked and they all start oh, that's awesome, I'm like okay, I'm good, yep, yep, yep.
• 1:06:48
Speaker 1: That was my wife talking to me at first.
• 1:06:56
Speaker 6: But now then, uh, I think that's the same weekend.
• 1:06:57
Speaker 6: I was running around with fairy wings and a blonde wig, but but it doesn't take long before you realize you're spreading joy absolutely, I'm still in that like kind of Disney bounding in a way.
• 1:07:12
Speaker 3: I like to have the practical costumes for the longer races, so I don't tend to do costumes, but the talk with our friends has got me thinking again.
• 1:07:23
Speaker 3: Ok, so we have Wine and Dine and Marathon coming up.
• 1:07:26
Speaker 3: I am only doing the marathon, so I won't do anything for that.
• 1:07:31
Speaker 3: Um, I am only doing the marathon, so I won't do anything for that.
• 1:07:34
  Speaker 3: Um.
• 1:07:37
Speaker 3: But just looking at themes of the races coming up, springtime surprise, um seeing what I can come up with.
• 1:07:40
Speaker 6: Good, yeah, good, it's a lot of fun.
• 1:07:41
Speaker 2: Hey Boba, I just want to let uh, or I just want to give our listeners an update.
• 1:07:45
Speaker 2: Um, after the interview, I did consult with the odds makers in Vegas and we do have some lines set between the battle between Kay and Tony.
• 1:07:57
Speaker 2: So if you're looking to put in over under bets, a line has been set for Kay at one and a half.
• 1:08:07
Speaker 2: Run Disney Facebook posts.
• 1:08:08
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm going to over on that one and the line for Tony has been put at a half.
• 1:08:11
Speaker 2: Oh, I'm going to over on that one and the line for tony has been put at a half oh, so I'm at the over on both so and and we're gonna parlay that one
• 1:08:19
Speaker 2: okay, and we'll okay john, and if you want to add on to the parlay, we're gonna go for uh combined, uh total, uh we're gonna the line set at two, so it you know.
• 1:08:30
Speaker 2: So put your bets in.
• 1:08:31
Speaker 2: Maybe we'll do a Facebook post a prediction or something like that.
• 1:08:36
Speaker 2: But yeah, that's what Vegas is whispering into my ear right now.
• 1:08:39
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 1:08:40
Speaker 1: We do not condone gambling, no, we do not condone gambling.
• 1:08:43
Speaker 1: There's no money being involved.
• 1:08:44
  Speaker 1: Yes, exactly.
• 1:08:45
Speaker 1: We don't need any RICO laws coming after us and stuff like that.
• 1:08:50
Speaker 6: While we're on the costumes thing, a reminder about the 101 Dalmatians.
• 1:08:54
Speaker 6: And well, come to think of it, our friend, who is the apparel primary apparel provider for the 101 Dalmatians shirts, is also here with us this week, for the 101 Dalmatians shirts is also here with us this week.
• 1:09:11
Speaker 6: Well, friends, now that we've spent a bunch of time talking about costumes, here's another place you might want to go to get some costume ideas, and that's to visit our friend Alec at Kauai and Pizza Apparel, and it just so happens that Alec is with us right now.
• 1:09:36
Speaker 6: Hi Alec, how are you doing?
• 1:09:37
Speaker 5: Hi, good, how are you guys?
• 1:09:38
Speaker 6: We're good, my friend, Glad to see you.
• 1:09:40
Speaker 6: Thanks for making some time for us.
• 1:09:43
Speaker 6: Thank you for all the work you're doing on this.
• 1:09:49
Speaker 6: I was going to say crazy the work you're doing on this.
• 1:09:57
Speaker 6: I was going to say crazy but ambitious, exciting 101 dalmatians effort.
• 1:10:00
  Speaker 5: Those shirts are.
• 1:10:01
Speaker 5: Shirts are looking great.
• 1:10:01
Speaker 5: How's that going good?
• 1:10:02
Speaker 5: I mean probably getting a sale, a sale on a shirt, probably once a day at least like everybody seems very excited about it and I love being in the in the Facebook chat with everybody and somebody showing off what they got yeah, yeah, they.
• 1:10:18
Speaker 6: My wife got hers.
• 1:10:19
  Speaker 6: They look terrific.
• 1:10:20
Speaker 6: Well, all your stuff looks terrific.
• 1:10:21
Speaker 6: We'll get, maybe in the top, just a little bit more here in a minute, but it genuinely does, and I appreciate what you did to keep the cost down on that one and let as many people as possible get that nice, high quality shirt.
• 1:10:34
Speaker 6: Any idea how many you've sent out so far?
• 1:10:37
Speaker 5: I'd say like at least 60, I'd say yeah.
• 1:10:41
Speaker 5: Maybe, maybe past that now.
• 1:10:43
Speaker 6: Maybe a little more, but more orders coming.
• 1:10:45
Speaker 6: I know we have heard from well over 100 people.
• 1:10:50
Speaker 6: I know we have heard from well over 100 people.
• 1:10:51
Speaker 6: Now I did tell them they don't all have to buy the shirt from you, but that I thought that once they saw it they would want to, and clearly a lot of them have.
• 1:11:00
Speaker 6: Do you have any other stuff that would go with the Dalmatian theme?
• 1:11:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, In the Facebook chat I've been taking requests and getting you know matching skirts and shorts, and leggings, and everything in the same exact Dalmatian print, so you can just be perfectly coordinated add your tail, add your ears, whatever you want to do.
• 1:11:23
Speaker 5: But, yeah, we have running skirts, men's and women's leggings, like you name it.
• 1:11:29
  Speaker 6: Gee whiz.
• 1:11:30
  Speaker 6: I feel a little disappointed.
• 1:11:32
Speaker 6: I don't get to wear one, but that was part of my deal with Monica that I would be Cruella if we did this thing.
• 1:11:40
Speaker 6: That was part of my deal, but it's great.
• 1:11:44
Speaker 6: The closer we get to it, the more excitement I have.
• 1:11:48
Speaker 6: But that's not all you do.
• 1:11:52
Speaker 6: You have a full line of apparel.
• 1:11:54
Speaker 6: What else do you have that friends might be interested in for the upcoming Run Disney season?
• 1:12:03
Speaker 5: Well, I actually reorganized our site this year to make it way easier for people to find things specifically on theme for each race.
• 1:12:14
Speaker 5: So you can just go to our website, hawaiian pizza apparelcom.
• 1:12:17
Speaker 5: Right there on the front page.
• 1:12:19
Speaker 5: We have little collections for each race theme.
• 1:12:23
Speaker 5: You know all the characters that'll be in that race and it's just.
• 1:12:27
Speaker 5: It's easier, I think, to find what you need.
• 1:12:30
Speaker 5: But we have, I would say you know upwards of you know five, six, seven characters for, like, specific movies, but like we really get in there with you know the deep cuts of whatever character you want for a race.
• 1:12:46
Speaker 5: Like we'll do it.
• 1:12:49
Speaker 6: They all look good.
• 1:12:49
  Speaker 6: I've done a couple Gaston's grandfather.
• 1:12:57
Speaker 6: I used your Gaston shirt.
• 1:12:59
Speaker 6: I put it on and realized I didn't look much like Gaston.
• 1:13:03
Speaker 6: So I got a wig and painted it gray and did it.
• 1:13:06
Speaker 6: That was Gaston's grandfather, that was great.
• 1:13:08
Speaker 6: I did Doc Hudson.
• 1:13:10
Speaker 6: I'm always doing the old guys.
• 1:13:11
  Speaker 6: I don't know stereotyping, I guess.
• 1:13:12
Speaker 6: Buton's grandpa, that was great.
• 1:13:12
Speaker 6: I did Doc Hudson.
• 1:13:12
Speaker 6: I'm always doing the old guys.
• 1:13:12
  Speaker 6: I don't know Stereotyping, I guess.
• 1:13:14
  Speaker 6: But it's good.
• 1:13:16
Speaker 6: It's good high quality stuff.
• 1:13:18
Speaker 6: Now you offer a discount to our Rise and Run friends and that code is Rise and Run and it works.
• 1:13:28
Speaker 6: I've explained this before.
• 1:13:29
Speaker 6: You can correct me where I'm wrong, but I know I'm not wrong on this one.
• 1:13:33
Speaker 6: No discount on the Dalmatian shirt.
• 1:13:36
Speaker 6: You knocked that down to a rock bottom price for us.
• 1:13:39
Speaker 6: Yeah, correct, but folks can order other items at the same time and if they use the Rise and Run code, it will take 10% off those other items, right, yep, yep.
• 1:13:56
Speaker 6: And you offer free shipping if friends spend more than $50 on one order, and typically the Dalmatian shirt plus I don't want to say anything else, but I think probably just about anything else is going to total over $50, even with the discount.
• 1:14:12
Speaker 6: So if friends use free ship 50, all one word, although 50 is 5-0, not F-I-F-T-Y Free ship 5-0, all one word, you get free shipping.
• 1:14:27
Speaker 6: What more could you want, alex practically giving her inventory away?
• 1:14:33
  Speaker 6: Let's talk deadlines.
• 1:14:36
Speaker 6: We have a different deadline for the Dalmatian shirt than we do for other items.
• 1:14:41
Speaker 6: I believe we said we wanted the Dalmatian orders.
• 1:14:46
Speaker 6: Did we say 1 November?
• 1:14:48
Speaker 6: Or did we say by wine and dine?
• 1:14:50
  Speaker 6: I don't recall.
• 1:14:51
Speaker 5: I've just been saying by wine and dine.
• 1:14:53
Speaker 5: If anyone asks Just because of the holidays, after that it's like you should get it in yeah.
• 1:15:00
Speaker 6: Yeah, that gives us a couple extra days then instead of 1 November.
• 1:15:03
Speaker 6: So, all right, by the time wine and dine weekend starts, you should have your Dalmatian shirt order in.
• 1:15:14
Speaker 6: Other deadlines are on the website, right?
• 1:15:20
Speaker 5: Yep, yep, I created a nifty little banner and have that posted on our Instagram, have it on Facebook, so hopefully everybody can see that and not get confused.
• 1:15:30
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 1:15:33
  Speaker 6: Roughly.
• 1:15:33
Speaker 6: You've got two different deadlines.
• 1:15:34
Speaker 6: You've got a normal deadline and an expedited shipping deadline.
• 1:15:38
Speaker 6: Can you tell us roughly how far out each one is Like?
• 1:15:41
Speaker 6: Is expedited shipping like three weeks?
• 1:15:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, our rush orders are about one to two weeks.
• 1:15:49
Speaker 5: You know our best when we're on our game.
• 1:15:50
Speaker 3: it'll be a week we could get it best when we're on our game.
• 1:15:52
  Speaker 5: it'll be a week.
• 1:15:52
Speaker 5: We could get it out when we're on our game, but then, yeah, non-rush orders.
• 1:15:56
Speaker 5: It's about four to five weeks Obviously holidays coming up, take those into account as well.
• 1:16:03
Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it's very reasonable, sounds good.
• 1:16:06
Speaker 1: But we should not wait to the last minute, right, that's the big key.
• 1:16:09
Speaker 1: No, please don't, Because you know there could be some kind of shortage of material.
• 1:16:18
Speaker 1: Then that rush order can not get through.
• 1:16:19
  Speaker 6: You never know.
• 1:16:20
Speaker 5: And we take exchanges too size exchanges, style exchanges.
• 1:16:23
Speaker 5: So you know, if the first order doesn't work out and you want a different style, different size, like it's always a better idea to have some room just in case you need to exchange Now there's one exception to that rule, and you can.
• 1:16:36
Speaker 6: that is, you can personalize the Dalmatian shirt.
• 1:16:39
Speaker 6: But if you do, you can't take an exchange on that.
• 1:16:42
Speaker 6: Correct, correct, yeah, okay, so that's the only exception.
• 1:16:46
Speaker 1: Anything new coming up, any new new designs coming up that you can think of, that you may want to share with us.
• 1:16:53
Speaker 5: Kind of late to the game, but I just finished a Moon Knight dress that I'm very excited about.
• 1:16:59
Speaker 5: It took probably a week working on it, getting every little piece of fabric right, and I think it turned out really nice.
• 1:17:08
Speaker 9: So that's exciting me.
• 1:17:11
Speaker 5: If any Moon Knight fans out there.
• 1:17:14
  Speaker 6: Okay, Outstanding.
• 1:17:16
  Speaker 6: Well, Alec, look.
• 1:17:19
Speaker 6: Thanks for what you do for the Rise and Run family.
• 1:17:21
Speaker 6: We're going to be sure to send you lots of pictures of Rise and Run puppies.
• 1:17:28
  Speaker 5: I'm excited.
• 1:17:29
Speaker 5: I want to see.
• 1:17:31
Speaker 6: We're not terribly far.
• 1:17:32
Speaker 6: It'll be here before we know it, so get your Dalmatian shirt orders in so you can be part of the part of the crew.
• 1:17:40
Speaker 6: It should be fun.
• 1:17:41
Speaker 6: Alec, thanks a lot.
• 1:17:43
Speaker 6: We look forward to talking with you later.
• 1:17:46
  Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks.
• 1:17:47
Speaker 6: Alec, thanks for joining us and again, thanks for all you do to help us out.
• 1:17:51
Speaker 1: Okay, so going back to our shop, so the pre-order is over.
• 1:17:54
Speaker 1: Hopefully everybody got some stuff in.
• 1:17:58
Speaker 1: We did order some extras, like I said, so if you did miss out, we will have some extra shirts and sizes.
• 1:18:03
Speaker 1: Not every size is going to be available, not every shirt is going to be available, but there will be some extras.
• 1:18:11
Speaker 1: Also, our visors are sold out right now.
• 1:18:13
Speaker 1: Judy did put another order in to get some more, so they should be coming in shortly and once they're in, they'll be back on the website for you to order.
• 1:18:23
  Speaker 6: Sounds good.
• 1:18:24
Speaker 6: We'll let you know when we get some of the product and when it will start shipping, but I don't think it's going to take too long.
• 1:18:31
Speaker 6: All right, I want to remind our friends, if you're listening and you're out in California, our Disneyland meetup is Saturday at 3 pm in the picnic area Locations depicted on the Facebook site.
• 1:18:45
Speaker 6: Look forward, really, really looking forward, to seeing you there.
• 1:18:49
Speaker 6: We're going to try now.
• 1:18:51
Speaker 6: I usually we usually talk about this at the very end of the episode and I probably will do it again.
• 1:18:56
Speaker 6: But this is a Zoom Thursday and what we're going to try to do is do the Zoom from our meetup place.
• 1:19:06
Speaker 6: So I'm going to try to head over to the picnic area and I'll be there, and I think a couple other folks will be over there also.
• 1:19:15
Speaker 6: Let's see how that works.
• 1:19:18
Speaker 6: Could be fun, because it's middle of the afternoon.
• 1:19:21
Speaker 6: Well, it's 5 pm California time, so we'll see how that goes.
• 1:19:25
Speaker 6: All right, one final announcement this next week's episode will be race recaps.
• 1:19:34
Speaker 6: We'll be talking about the Disneyland Halloween half marathon weekend and we'll be talking about Bird in Hand, because a lot of our friends are going to be in that city in Pennsylvania doing that half marathon also it's time for no, no, no, not the race report, not yet.
• 1:19:53
Speaker 6: It's almost time for the race report.
• 1:19:54
Speaker 2: No, I almost triggered the sound effect.
• 1:19:56
  Speaker 2: You scared me.
• 1:19:57
Speaker 6: Oh, that was close.
• 1:19:57
Speaker 6: What it's time for is another rise and run tradition the race weekend roll call.
• 1:20:07
Speaker 6: If you put your name into the race report, it's time to read it out.
• 1:20:12
Speaker 6: Now again, we have some rules here, and the rules are that when you hear your name read out, you have to stand up and remain standing until we're done reading everyone for that race.
• 1:20:28
Speaker 6: The only exception is if you're listening in a commercial airliner and you're on short final.
• 1:20:36
Speaker 6: They get upset with you if you stand up when the seatbelt sign is on.
• 1:20:40
  Speaker 6: So you're forgiven.
• 1:20:41
Speaker 6: But that's the deal.
• 1:20:42
Speaker 6: So let's kick it off with the Chills and Thrills Challenge.
• 1:20:48
Speaker 2: All right, running Chills and thrills is our buddy abel.
• 1:20:52
Speaker 2: We also have andrew angie, who is doing the coast to coast challenge, the one, the only bob running also the coast to challenge.
• 1:21:02
Speaker 2: Our illustrious leaders of our lead sponsor, brad and maggie of magic bound travel are doing chills and thrills.
• 1:21:10
Speaker 2: Brandy, britney and mark they are doing coast to coast and their first time in disneyland cassandra, celia and then also christopher and larn and, just like britney and mark, it is their first time to disneyland and coast to coast.
• 1:21:29

• 1:21:30
Speaker 2: And for all of you, first time Disneylanders, I am so excited for you.
• 1:21:33
Speaker 2: You're going to love it.
• 1:21:35
Speaker 1: Then we got Clara, then we have Dan, his first Disneyland race, and he's doing coast to coast.
• 1:21:40

Speaker 3: I also found that it was really great.
• 1:28:10
Speaker 3: I learned a lot and I've gotten stronger and my running has gotten faster, which was my goal, so I've been very happy.
• 1:28:19
Speaker 11: Running has gotten faster.
• 1:28:21
Speaker 11: That's what I love to hear, yeah.
• 1:28:23
  Speaker 6: Yeah, that's outstanding.
• 1:28:24
Speaker 6: I'm still waiting for that to happen, but that's me, okay, that's me.
• 1:28:27
  Speaker 6: I feel good.
• 1:28:28
Speaker 6: I've managed to avoid or minimize injuries in the last eight to.
• 1:28:33
Speaker 6: Actually we had a head start.
• 1:28:35
  Speaker 6: It's actually been 10 weeks.
• 1:28:37
Speaker 11: You got a little extra time.
• 1:28:38
Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, I get antsy.
• 1:28:42
Speaker 6: Yeah Well, we appreciate you, man.
• 1:28:45
  Speaker 6: How'd it go?
• 1:28:46
  Speaker 6: What's what?
• 1:28:47
Speaker 6: What is your overall opinion of the challenge, tom?
• 1:28:51
Speaker 11: I had an absolute blast.
• 1:28:52
Speaker 11: It was great to stay connected with everybody over the summer, engage with everybody in the community over the summer and just kept me going, kept me busy and I learned a lot about everybody in the community and different goals and just had an absolute blast.
• 1:29:08
Speaker 11: I can't wait to do it again.
• 1:29:11
Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Well, you can tell us more about that in a little bit.
• 1:29:13
Speaker 6: I am sorry I didn't make more of the Zooms.
• 1:29:18
Speaker 6: They were worthwhile and I made a couple, but the schedule just sometimes didn't work out, so you were there for me.
• 1:29:26
Speaker 6: Well, I'm going to work on that.
• 1:29:30
Speaker 11: I'm proud of you for the work you put in man.
• 1:29:33
  Speaker 6: Well, thanks, I mean I.
• 1:29:34
Speaker 6: I was there yesterday.
• 1:29:38
Speaker 6: I know the challenge is over, but I went back on Monday.
• 1:29:41
Speaker 6: I kept going and I'm thinking, well, the challenge is over, so I don't have to try to set a PR every time.
• 1:29:49
  Speaker 6: And I don't have to.
• 1:29:49
Speaker 6: And you know what happened.
• 1:29:51
Speaker 6: I set a PR every time.
• 1:29:54
  Speaker 6: I continue.
• 1:29:54
Speaker 6: If I could do one more rep, if I could do five more pounds, then that was good.
• 1:29:59
Speaker 6: And I couldn't always, but most of the time you could, if that's all you, most of the time you could do that.
• 1:30:05
Speaker 6: So I kept trying, like I said, even though I knew the challenge was over.
• 1:30:09
Speaker 11: It gets a little addicting, doesn't it?
• 1:30:10
Speaker 6: Yeah, it does, and you start to feel results and maybe see results.
• 1:30:17
  Speaker 6: I don't know.
• 1:30:18
Speaker 6: Look, I feel better.
• 1:30:22
Speaker 11: That's all I want Feel better, minimize injuries and have you run your best race.
• 1:30:28
Speaker 6: Although before you signed on, I was whining about being sore here on my sides in the core.
• 1:30:33
  Speaker 6: I don't know what.
• 1:30:34
Speaker 6: I don't know what exercise is doing that to me, but one of them is.
• 1:30:37
Speaker 11: Shoot me a message, we'll dial it in.
• 1:30:39
Speaker 6: There's nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with a little DOMS.
• 1:30:41
  Speaker 6: That's okay.
• 1:30:42
Speaker 6: That's how you build muscles, that's right.
• 1:30:45
Speaker 6: So what if you're ready?
• 1:30:48
Speaker 6: And I don't, golly, you know what?
• 1:30:49
  Speaker 6: I don't have.
• 1:30:50
  Speaker 6: I don't have a drum roll.
• 1:30:51
Speaker 1: I got a rim shot, but I don't oh, I got my drumsticks with me, so I don't know I pressed the button and all of a sudden somebody's knocking at the door.
• 1:31:03
Speaker 6: I wonder what was going on.
• 1:31:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, if you've got them, we're ready to hear them.
• 1:31:08
Speaker 11: I've got a lot of fun stuff to share.
• 1:31:09
  Speaker 11: Yeah, let's go.
• 1:31:10
Speaker 11: Bob was talking a little bit about PR, so if you were in the challenge, you were able to earn points for hitting personal bests every single workout, hitting your nutrition goals and just staying on task.
• 1:31:23
Speaker 11: We had a clear point winner.
• 1:31:26
Speaker 11: She ran the show on points with Marcy Whitesell she just killed it on the points at the halfway mark and held through to the finish.
• 1:31:35
Speaker 11: Stacey Truman right behind her, straight out of Arizona, and Debbie Robertson I'm going to give them all a massage at Massage Envy just for putting in the effort, putting in the work.
• 1:31:47
Speaker 11: They absolutely crushed it.
• 1:31:49
Speaker 11: So they got runner's up prizes.
• 1:31:50
  Speaker 11: That's awesome.
• 1:31:52
Speaker 3: I'm very excited about that I just want to say a special shout out to Stacey.
• 1:31:54
Speaker 3: She's one of my clients as well and she's been kicking butt in both that challenge and her running.
• 1:32:01
Speaker 11: And Stacey and I worked one-on-one a couple months ago probably about half a year ago and she absolutely crushed it.
• 1:32:07
Speaker 11: Then she dove back in during the challenge and just she goes all in on everything she does.
• 1:32:13
  Speaker 11: Yep, super excited.
• 1:32:17
Speaker 11: She's got something to walk away with.
• 1:32:18
Speaker 11: Now, fun numbers Well, I only had about 30 people submit their final weigh-ins, even though we had about 150 play the game, but of those 30 people, we lost over 250 pounds collectively.
• 1:32:32
Speaker 11: Oh, that's good, which is really solid for an eight-week challenge.
• 1:32:36
  Speaker 11: Yeah, really solid.
• 1:32:38
Speaker 11: One of the highest was our buddy, ryan, who, ryan came from a competitive powerlifting background.
• 1:32:45
Speaker 11: Ryan sent out 22 pounds lost over the course of eight weeks Wow, which is just incredible, incredible.
• 1:32:53
Speaker 11: And he's a vegetarian, like Alicia, he's a vegan, so he's in good company here and he helped us with a lot of you know vegan nutrition info, so loved having him as part of the challenge.
• 1:33:03
Speaker 11: You know vegan nutrition info, so loved having him as part of the challenge.
• 1:33:06
Speaker 11: But the big winners, the fun ones this was a tight race.
• 1:33:10
Speaker 11: Our top three Melissa newbie lost 7.2% of her body.
• 1:33:15
Speaker 11: That body weight 7.2%.
• 1:33:18
  Speaker 11: Leslie Hardy 8.48%.
• 1:33:21
Speaker 11: And the big winner Now's the time for that drum roll.
• 1:33:24
Speaker 11: Bob, cue me up.
• 1:33:25
Speaker 11: Ashley lanzone 8.67, was our first place winner, so she wins six months free one-on-one coaching.
• 1:33:34
Speaker 11: I'm gonna take her through the whole process and see if we can keep her journey going.
• 1:33:37
Speaker 11: I'm in a few chats with ashley and once I crunched these numbers today.
• 1:33:42
Speaker 11: It was like I was chomping at the bit to tell her and I said nope, I said I'd reveal it on here.
• 1:33:48
  Speaker 6: Oh, congratulations everybody.
• 1:33:50
Speaker 6: I'm happy with what I did.
• 1:33:51
Speaker 6: I dropped some LBs.
• 1:33:53
Speaker 6: I was hoping to drop a little bit more, but I did okay, because I know where I started.
• 1:34:01
Speaker 6: Actually, I was higher than that.
• 1:34:04
Speaker 6: When I started with you, I was already on the way down a little bit, so I'm happy.
• 1:34:09
Speaker 6: I'm waiting to see what's next.
• 1:34:14
  Speaker 11: All right.
• 1:34:14
Speaker 11: Well, since you brought it up, we've also got a group coaching launching which is very similar to the challenge.
• 1:34:21
Speaker 11: It is weekly calls.
• 1:34:23
Speaker 11: We all jump on a call.
• 1:34:24
Speaker 11: As a group, we dial everything in walk you through the workouts, walk you through everything and really try to dial in the nutrition and help you get stronger and faster for your runs.
• 1:34:33
Speaker 11: Most importantly, injury-proof you.
• 1:34:36
Speaker 11: The challenge was such a blast and I'm in the mood to keep giving stuff away.
• 1:34:40
Speaker 11: So Cheryl Hawes and Krista Swan they're automatically in that group coaching program because they engaged.
• 1:34:47
Speaker 11: Krista was like a resident nurse on the phone call.
• 1:34:50
Speaker 11: She came in with the doctor information.
• 1:34:52
Speaker 11: Cheryl's super engaged, got in all of her workouts and they're training for big races and I want to be part of that journey.
• 1:34:59
Speaker 11: So they're in our accelerator program.
• 1:35:03
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 1:35:04
Speaker 11: Super excited for that.
• 1:35:06
  Speaker 6: Okay, that's awesome.
• 1:35:07
Speaker 6: So I've been talking the last couple of weeks about the three levels.
• 1:35:11
  Speaker 6: Three levels, okay.
• 1:35:13
Speaker 6: Why don't you explain them?
• 1:35:15
Speaker 6: I'm sure you're going to do better than I do.
• 1:35:17
Speaker 11: All right Foundations levels.
• 1:35:19
Speaker 11: Where we start, that is the easiest entry tier for everybody.
• 1:35:23
Speaker 11: That's going to get your workouts in.
• 1:35:24
Speaker 11: No group calls on that one.
• 1:35:26
Speaker 11: But if you're looking to incorporate strength training and you're not 100% sure what to do, that is going to be your best step on how to get there.
• 1:35:34
  Speaker 11: Dial everything in.
• 1:35:36
Speaker 11: I build these programs for runners.
• 1:35:38
Speaker 11: I've got probably six or seven running coaches and distance runners in runners in my in my wheelhouse that I checked them out with I.
• 1:35:49
Speaker 11: You know, alicia, how do we feel about this?
• 1:35:50
Speaker 11: Is it too much?
• 1:35:51
Speaker 11: Is it too little?
• 1:35:52
Speaker 11: Cause I don't want to kill your legs.
• 1:35:54
Speaker 11: I don't want to kill you before a race, so dialing everything in there.
• 1:35:58
Speaker 11: The most popular right now coming out of the challenge is the accelerator program.
• 1:36:02
Speaker 11: Includes the workouts, includes monthly nutrition coaching, so we'll adjust your macros your calories, protein, carbs, fats based upon your goals.
• 1:36:12
Speaker 11: Dial all that in and we have a once weekly call to just make sure I can answer any questions.
• 1:36:20
Speaker 11: Ask anybody that was on those eight weeks of challenge calls.
• 1:36:23
Speaker 11: We did about 16 calls.
• 1:36:24
Speaker 11: I love to talk this stuff.
• 1:36:27
Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, yeah, but that's a good thing, tom.
• 1:36:31
  Speaker 11: It's a blast for me.
• 1:36:32

• 1:36:38

• 1:36:42
  Speaker 11: It's been awesome.
• 1:36:42

• 1:36:54
Speaker 6: We've talked about those two levels.
• 1:36:58
Speaker 6: Of course, you still have your one-on-one coaching, which would be the third level.
• 1:37:03
  Speaker 11: One-on-one.
• 1:37:03
Speaker 11: I customize everything to you.
• 1:37:06

• 1:37:41

Speaker 11: Just don't let me talk about running for too long, cause I will hear off of what races you're doing, what you've got coming up, and I will.
• 1:38:51
Speaker 6: I will ramble, ramble about those races community, because if you're making us stronger, it helps us, and it's a two-way street, but it's really been terrific and thank you for that.
• 1:39:10
Speaker 6: I love the way you jump in into the chats and help folks just with your expertise.
• 1:39:15
  Speaker 6: That's good stuff.
• 1:39:17
Speaker 11: I'll be in those chats a lot more now that the challenge is over.
• 1:39:22

• 1:40:03
Speaker 6: Weekend's races on what was the Labor Day weekend.
• 1:40:05
Speaker 6: Let's start on Saturday in Tushkahoma, oklahoma, the Choctaw Nation 5K.
• 1:40:10
Speaker 6: Emily and Sarah, two sisters, ran this one, both in the same age group this year, ran across the finish line together, second and third in the age group and got their picture taken with the chief and assistant chief of the Choctaw Nation.
• 1:40:27
Speaker 6: This was also a 5K PR for Emily and Sarah.
• 1:40:33
Speaker 6: Let's go to Little Rock, arkansas, for the ARC 5K classic.
• 1:40:41
Speaker 6: Shelby Allison pushed herself in being comfortable, in feeling uncomfortable.
• 1:40:47
Speaker 6: I think we said that during the Council of Costumes, sa, as those of us who know her real well refer to Shelby Allison Actually I think it's just me.
• 1:40:58
Speaker 6: Anyway SA got herself a brand new PR.
• 1:41:05
Speaker 6: See you in Disneyland.
• 1:41:10
Speaker 6: Shelby Allison in Tupelo, mississippi, the Tupelo 14.2 Aaron first race report ever.
• 1:41:17
Speaker 6: While this one was hilly, a little bit hot, good event.
• 1:41:20
Speaker 6: Definitely recommend it to anybody who's in the Tupelo area next year.
• 1:41:27
  Speaker 6: Check it out.
• 1:41:27
  Speaker 6: Nicely done.
• 1:41:29
Speaker 6: The Zozo run in Santa Fe, new Mexico.
• 1:41:32
Speaker 6: This one's kind of interesting Zozo bra, which an old man gloom, is a huge puppet and people drop off their glooms that they write on paper.
• 1:41:46
Speaker 6: Then those papers are used to stuff Zozo Bra.
• 1:41:51
Speaker 6: Sierra did this one, she says.
• 1:41:54
Speaker 6: Growing up in Santa Fe, she's always thought of this as their New Year celebration time to start things fresh, and then it's the kickoff to their fiestas.
• 1:42:06
Speaker 6: Well, that's pretty cool.
• 1:42:07
Speaker 6: This was the hundredth burning of zozo bra, which is like what you do with them after you stuff them with all that paper.
• 1:42:15
Speaker 6: But it's the first ever zozo run.
• 1:42:17
Speaker 6: Uh, cool 2.2 miles, which is a new race distance for Sierra.
• 1:42:24
Speaker 6: So in addition to that PR, she got a cool t-shirt and awesome metal with old man gloom himself on the metal.
• 1:42:35
Speaker 6: Colorado Springs the Do Not Stop 5K.
• 1:42:37
Speaker 6: Kristen with her children, sam and Amelia.
• 1:42:41
Speaker 6: Let's hit the PR bell for both Sam and Amelia.
• 1:42:45
Speaker 6: Let's hit the PR bell for both Sam and Amelia.
• 1:42:48
Speaker 6: They fought through the heat, the dry air, the blinding sun and they had a great time.
• 1:42:55
Speaker 6: Started off running intervals 60-15, switched to 60-30, which felt a little more comfortable.
• 1:43:02
Speaker 6: They did very well.
• 1:43:04
Speaker 6: Bring on the Halloween races.
• 1:43:05
Speaker 6: We'll see Kristen at Disneyland.
• 1:43:08
Speaker 6: Also In Carmel, indiana, the Indiana Women's Running Festival a Get a Move On Cancer 5K A couple folks there.
• 1:43:19
Speaker 6: Kathy says it was a busy, fantastic day with friends and family.
• 1:43:25
Speaker 6: Rainy at the start, then a couple more pop-up showers during the race Great way to start her three-day weekend.
• 1:43:32
Speaker 6: Emily was there around the half agrees it was pretty soggy, and Julie did the half and her bib barely survived because it got so soaking wet.
• 1:43:42
  Speaker 6: But it did.
• 1:43:43
Speaker 6: It survived as, as did she.
• 1:43:45
Speaker 6: It was a nice course and I think, in spite of the rain, sounds like it was a nice race weekend in chillicothe, ohio.
• 1:43:54
Speaker 6: The candy run 5k riley and brent.
• 1:43:59
Speaker 6: Brent was doing his first 5k Fun run through a local park.
• 1:44:04
Speaker 6: It was warm Most of the course in the sunshine that never helps, but a big PR for Riley and since it's Brent's first 5K, a big PR for Brent as well.
• 1:44:23
Speaker 6: Moving on to Sunday, and let's cross the ocean for this one, let's go to wales in the united kingdom, cardiff specifically, capital city, the cardiff 10k.
• 1:44:35
Speaker 6: Liz and mark ran that one actually earlier this morning.
• 1:44:39
Speaker 6: We're recording on sunday.
• 1:44:41
Speaker 6: Make up for the time zone difference Because Liz is here with us in the Race Report Spotlight.
• 1:44:47
Speaker 6: Liz, welcome, good to see you.
• 1:44:50
  Speaker 6: Hi, dad, thanks.
• 1:44:51
Speaker 6: Thank you for taking the time to join us.
• 1:44:54
  Speaker 6: We appreciate it.
• 1:44:55
Speaker 6: The Cardiff 10K in Wales.
• 1:44:57
  Speaker 6: That's terrific.
• 1:44:58
Speaker 6: What are you doing in Wales, liz?
• 1:45:01
Speaker 4: My husband and I came for a vacation for our 30th wedding anniversary.
• 1:45:04
  Speaker 6: Yeah, neat.
• 1:45:05
Speaker 6: And you decided, like most people do on a 30th wedding anniversary, to run yeah, yeah, that made my husband really happy he was running after you all those years.
• 1:45:17
Speaker 4: Right there you go exactly what I'll tell you.
• 1:45:19
Speaker 6: Yep yeah, and you're all over it, buddy.
• 1:45:21
  Speaker 6: Good job.
• 1:45:22
Speaker 6: Um, did you plan this as part of your trip or did you make the trip and go?
• 1:45:28
Speaker 4: hey, look what's here we planned the trip and then I looked to see if there was a run somewhere.
• 1:45:33
  Speaker 6: Oh, outstanding, outstanding.
• 1:45:35
Speaker 6: Well, let's a little bit about you, and mark's not with us this morning, but, uh, you can maybe answer for him too.
• 1:45:42
Speaker 6: How did you all get started running?
• 1:45:44
  Speaker 4: um.
• 1:45:44
Speaker 4: I started running um to in order to be able to run a princess half marathon in 2020.
• 1:45:51
Speaker 4: That was my first long run.
• 1:45:52
Speaker 4: Before that, I was always walking my races and I started, you know, five second run, 55 second walk was my beginning, so okay, okay, that's great, that's great.
• 1:46:03
Speaker 6: And then you, you've continued.
• 1:46:05
Speaker 6: So you and you just said it was 2020, princess, did you say yep right before the world collapsed last.
• 1:46:12
Speaker 6: That's the last race.
• 1:46:13
Speaker 6: Yeah, for a year for.
• 1:46:14
Speaker 6: And yeah, yep, yep.
• 1:46:16
  Speaker 6: I remember that.
• 1:46:18
Speaker 4: We all remember that one, but at least you got that one in I got that one in, and then I've I've done about 12 half marathons since then.
• 1:46:27
  Speaker 5: Wow.
• 1:46:29
Speaker 4: I did Princess this year and then I did a local half marathon in June.
• 1:46:35
  Speaker 6: Very good.
• 1:46:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, so it just kind of stuck.
• 1:46:38
Speaker 4: You know, once you start it just sticks.
• 1:46:41
Speaker 6: It becomes addictive, especially the Disney runs.
• 1:46:45
  Speaker 3: It does.
• 1:46:49
  Speaker 6: It really does.
• 1:46:50
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we sure know that uh mark just as addicted.
• 1:46:53
Speaker 4: No, no, he says my wife loves running and I love my wife, so happy wife, happy life.
• 1:46:59
  Speaker 1: That's why they're there.
• 1:47:00
Speaker 1: That's why they're still married, amen 30 years.
• 1:47:04
  Speaker 6: There you go.
• 1:47:05
  Speaker 6: That's right, Liz.
• 1:47:07
Speaker 6: Tell us about this 10K in Cardiff.
• 1:47:11
Speaker 4: Well, to start out with, Cardiff is a very walk city or bike, so there was no parking at the start area.
• 1:47:18
Speaker 4: You had to figure out how to get there.
• 1:47:21
Speaker 4: So we got to Cardiff yesterday and walked from our Airbnb to find where the start village was.
• 1:47:26
Speaker 4: So that was about four miles of walking yesterday to find where we were going and get back to our Airbnb.
• 1:47:31
Speaker 4: Um, so that was good.
• 1:47:34
Speaker 4: So this morning we it was much more direct route and we got there with about a mile and a half.
• 1:47:38
Speaker 4: Um got there plenty early, walked right up, got our bibs.
• 1:47:42
Speaker 4: There was like no weight at all.
• 1:47:43
  Speaker 4: It is.
• 1:47:45
Speaker 4: There were about, was it, 5,000, 6,000 runners.
• 1:47:50
  Speaker 4: Oh very good.
• 1:47:50
Speaker 4: It was so much more relaxed than a run Disney race there was.
• 1:47:53
Speaker 4: You know, you have a corral on your bib.
• 1:47:55
Speaker 4: That was a color and there were some flags and that was it.
• 1:47:59
  Speaker 4: Nobody really monitored.
• 1:48:00
Speaker 4: They didn't want you in the corrals until 15 minutes before the start.
• 1:48:03
Speaker 4: Just hang out in the village, go talk to people.
• 1:48:13
Speaker 4: It was, it was really relaxed.
• 1:48:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, sounds nice, it was yeah.
• 1:48:14
Speaker 4: So the run went past like the welsh college of arts and drama, and then past the castle, um, out to some beautiful neighborhoods.
• 1:48:21
Speaker 4: The architecture out here is amazing, um, and then kind of circled past a gazillion football, which we would call soccer fields, and the community was just out for it.
• 1:48:33
  Speaker 4: They were there.
• 1:48:36
Speaker 4: I do not understand any Welsh other than the word for beer which is CWRW and it's spelled C-W-R-W, which is just really weird, but it's pronounced kuru.
• 1:48:47
  Speaker 4: That's what I've learned.
• 1:48:49
Speaker 4: My trip yay, um, that's great, um.
• 1:48:53
Speaker 4: So some people were, you know, cheering on in welsh and most people are cheering on in english kids, adults, older people, dogs, lots of dogs, everything.
• 1:49:02
Speaker 6: Yeah, how was the course?
• 1:49:05
  Speaker 4: flat, beautiful.
• 1:49:06
Speaker 4: I love a flat run yeah yeah, so we finished.
• 1:49:10
Speaker 4: you know, come back around by the castle and, and you know, finished right in front of city hall is kind of where they had the finish line, the event center, and that, um, they gave you water, they gave you medals.
• 1:49:19
Speaker 4: Cool idea they give you your shirt after the race so you don't have to figure out where you're going to put it, especially since nobody has a car here.
• 1:49:26
Speaker 4: There was a gear check, but you know we didn't use it, so grab the shirt and the water bottle.
• 1:49:32
Speaker 4: They didn't have the bananas or the snack box and I was really hungry.
• 1:49:37
Speaker 6: No, blue snack box, my goodness.
• 1:49:39
Speaker 6: Well, you're not doing this one again, are you?
• 1:49:42
Speaker 4: Oh, I would totally do this one again, yeah it's a great idea.
• 1:49:44
Speaker 4: I could pack something and gear check it.
• 1:49:47
  Speaker 6: Yeah, good deal.
• 1:49:53
Speaker 4: My husband just kind of mentioned from the couch where he's recovering, to tell you that I was the only one wearing any type of skirt.
• 1:49:56
Speaker 4: I had, like you know, the sparkle skirt that matched the top kind of thing, and that was it.
• 1:50:00
Speaker 4: Everybody was like look at that lady's skirt, and that was it.
• 1:50:02
Speaker 4: Everybody was like look at that lady's skirt.
• 1:50:04
Speaker 4: Look at that lady's skirt.
• 1:50:05
Speaker 4: Now, the one thing that there was here were so many charities we actually hooked up with a UK charity to raise funds for them, but there were so many different charities represented and almost everybody had some sort of a charity shirt on, so that that was neat.
• 1:50:23
  Speaker 6: That's cool.
• 1:50:24
Speaker 6: Folks can't see this, but john and I can.
• 1:50:27
Speaker 6: I liz is wearing her medal.
• 1:50:31
Speaker 4: Describe it for us um, it is kind of a pewter circle with a bite taken out of it and it has an outline of the cardiff castle which we ran around there, the cdf 10k, which is the name of this race, and and it has the word Cardiff and then Caldiff, which is the Welsh pronunciation of Cardiff underneath it in 2024.
• 1:50:53
Speaker 6: Great trip, any other interesting or any other trips planned, any other spots to visit, any other highlights?
• 1:51:02
Speaker 4: We have never been to Wales before.
• 1:51:03
Speaker 4: We've been to ireland, scotland and england before.
• 1:51:06
Speaker 4: Um, I would say I like wales best how about that it was funny.
• 1:51:12
Speaker 4: So many people say how did you hear about this?
• 1:51:14
Speaker 4: Oh, you're just here on vacation.
• 1:51:16
Speaker 4: They're just, they're not used to tourists coming, I guess, from abroad.
• 1:51:19
Speaker 4: A lot of english people will go to wales on vacation, but it doesn't.
• 1:51:23
Speaker 4: It's not like a lot of American people, so we're kind of an oddity here.
• 1:51:26
Speaker 4: You know, hey, are you the Americans?
• 1:51:28
  Speaker 4: Yes, that's us.
• 1:51:30
Speaker 4: Wonderful, so friendly, so welcoming, so outgoing, beautiful countryside.
• 1:51:36
Speaker 6: So yeah, You've made me want to go.
• 1:51:39
Speaker 6: I've got a feeling you say not many Americans go there.
• 1:51:42
Speaker 6: I've got a feeling not many Americans, many Americans, go there.
• 1:51:44
Speaker 6: I got a feeling not many Americans know where it is.
• 1:51:47
Speaker 6: I do, I do, I could point to it on a map.
• 1:51:49
Speaker 6: But yeah, it's a small country.
• 1:51:54
Speaker 4: Very small, which is nice for driving across it, because nothing is fast here.
• 1:51:59
  Speaker 10: Very good.
• 1:52:00
Speaker 1: So what charity did you guys run for?
• 1:52:03
Speaker 4: Motor Neuron Disease Association.
• 1:52:05
Speaker 4: It is what in the US we call Lou Gehrig's disease.
• 1:52:10
Speaker 6: Is that a special charity for you, Liz?
• 1:52:14
  Speaker 4: A little bit.
• 1:52:15
Speaker 4: We have a daughter-in-law who had Guillain-Barre disease and Mark's sister had transverse myelitis and both of those are neurological diseases, so this kind of fit closest to what was close to our hearts very good outstanding so, liz, uh, what's up next and when are you gonna see you at disney next?
• 1:52:31
Speaker 4: next up is a 10k in niagara falls um with tara, who does a lot of rise and run, yeah.
• 1:52:39
Speaker 4: So when I run with tara, I'm always trying to get my PR because she's so much faster than me.
• 1:52:44
Speaker 4: Oh today was a PR for Mark.
• 1:52:49
Speaker 6: Oh yes, Greg hit the bell.
• 1:52:52

Speaker 6: Our friend Andy ran this one.
• 1:53:53
Speaker 6: Andy says, rather than a race report, this should be a case study on what to do, what not to do, on race day Traffic delays.
• 1:54:06
Speaker 6: Well, andy had to pick up his bib morning of the race Because he got stuck with traffic rerouting.
• 1:54:15
Speaker 6: By the time he picked up his number and attached it, he heard the race announcer saying 90 seconds until we start.
• 1:54:22
Speaker 6: Oh no, yeah, not cool.
• 1:54:24
Speaker 6: All in all, this could have gone terribly wrong.

• 1:54:30
