- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: My name is Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McDonagal.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: And Tristan, another sad day in the LBK.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Yep, that makes three weeks in a row.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Well, really, four if we're being honest.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, this whole this whole football season's been sad.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: So it's been the same four weeks, man.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: It's just we've been living in deja vu.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: It's been groundhog day for us.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: Uh what else?
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: What can you say other than the way the game went?
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: That's how I feel.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: I went out with I feel how the game went.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm just so bummed out.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: And you look at the final score, 31 to 15, and you think it's not that bad.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: It's two scores, it's whatever.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: No, it was that bad.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: If you watch that game on Saturday, you know what we're talking about because it was absolutely brutal the whole time.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: Alan Bowman was a nightmare out there.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: Uh, the play calling was a nightmare.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then five minutes, well, uh, probably about eight minutes left in the game, Henry Columbi, the savior, I guess, comes in, 88 yard, 15 play drive, scores a touchdown immediately.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's a part to this where Iowa State kind of just had the game in the bag and they weren't really caring as much, but there's also a part to this that we scored an offensive touchdown for the first time in the game with eight minutes left with a different quarterback on the field.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: So, Tristan, I mean, it just I guess we could start with quarterbacks.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: What uh what are you feeling right now, man?
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, just really disappointed in Alan Bowman because one of the worst parts is going into the season, even after the HPU game, you and I were really high on Bowman and kind of feels like a 180 at this point.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, unfortunately, I think the guy is is playing scared and and maybe even a little injured still.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: I feel like the coaches didn't want to mess with their game book this week.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think they just wanted to see if they could ride on with Bowman, but it took him too long to make the decision to switch, in my opinion, because clearly nothing offensively was happening.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: He didn't score a single point, he didn't lead a single drive to uh that resulted in points.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: And after three quarters, and especially with the way Henry Columbi played in K-State, why don't you make that call?
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: You're gonna lose the game anyway at that point, basically.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: So, uh, what kind of disappoints me is I feel like they they should have made that call when they're the game was still in the grasp.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Because I think whenever we put out uh Henry Columbi in, the game was pretty much over anyway.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of just uh garbage time gameplay when it shouldn't have been because that guy, like you said, he led the only scoring drive of the game, and he did it with confidence.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: He knew it looked like he knew what he was doing out there, and he he didn't look scared, obviously not hurt, and obviously he knows the system and he trusts his guys, and they made the plays.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: So I'm just so frustrated that we uh let a uh uh Alan Bowman who probably wasn't even 100% and just couldn't get it together, stay out there that long.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we knew from the beginning of the season that Alan Bowman was the starter, it seemed he seemed like Wells' guy.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, and fans can be reactionary, you know.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: We had a bunch of guys on Twitter and a bunch of our friends say pull Bowman after the first quarter, after the first half, whatever.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: I was saying pull Bowman after the first half.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: We're not the coaches, we don't we're not supposed to make that decision.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: But at the same time, he was terrible, he was absolutely terrible the whole game.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: He looked like a deer in the headlights.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, he he was scared to get hit, he was scared to throw anything downfield.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's a part to this where we can talk about the play calling, and I'm sure we will in a bit, but uh on some of those plays, Bowman had stuff and he just he he threw it too quick, he made the decision too quick because I don't know if he just doesn't want to get hit, I don't know if he just uh didn't see anybody, I don't know.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: But there were a few play.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, the amount of drop downs he threw to the to our running backs that were going absolutely nowhere was ridiculous.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: And you know, seeing how good Columbia did when he came in, I mean, automatic drive down downfield, and then he had uh the touchdown call back, it was still a beautiful throw.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: The the freshman Jalen Polk just didn't get in bounds, and then right away the next play he throws to Azukama and it's a touchdown.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's I want I want that game played over with Henry Columbi a quarterback because I think it's a different, I think it's almost a different outcome.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: And just disappointing, man.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: I I I hate it for Bowman because I I like him as a as a as a guy and I think he's got a lot of potential.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: But uh at this point, I would be extremely upset if we didn't go with a different quarterback moving forward.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: I have to agree with that.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Uh I I agree with the statement that the coaches obviously know their team better than we do.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: I think I mean if they thought Alan Bowman was ready to play this game, then I probably agree with the decision to let him play.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: But seeing how it went, I got it's just so frustrating to keep him in at that point.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: Um and I'm with you.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: I wish we pulled him at the half because looking, I'm looking at the box score right now, and I know the box score doesn't always tell the whole story, but just Alan Bowman's for in the in for more than three quarters.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: He only gets 97 total yards.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Henry Columbi is in for half a quarter, 115 yards, and he averages about 10 yards a play.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: You know, those stats kind of speak for themselves whenever it's time to whenever it's game time, you know.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: And Henry Columbi got the only touchdown of the game, and clearly Henry Columbi is the right decision right now.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: And I don't I'm not it's again, it's disappointing because this is the third season in a row where Alan Bowman has had this luck where he's knocked out with a potentially season-ending injury, and I think that ghost is haunting him, you know, and I think it's showing in his play.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he yeah, he looks scared, he really does.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: Um dropping back.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: He doesn't the thing about Bowman, the difference between him and Columbia is Columbi can scramble.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Columbi has adds a different element that Alan Bowman doesn't, that I think uh that I think complements Coach Yo's system and Coach Wells' system.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: Having that ability to just get outside and run for a few yards when you don't have anything downfield.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's huge.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: It's huge for any quarterback.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: You see some of the best quarterbacks in the game have that ability to scramble, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, whoever.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: And seeing how this game played out was extremely disappointing.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: We keep going back to that word.
- 7:27SPEAKER_03: It was extremely disappointing because there was zero from the offense this game, and we never see that at a Texas at Texas Tech.
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: We never see that on a Texas Tech football team.
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: And um, I I guess we can kind of I want to talk about Iowa State because they're no slouch by any means.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Um, they have some serious NFL talent on that team.
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: Brock Purdy, Charlie Kohler, Brees Hall is looking like a Heisman candidate out there.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, they were awesome, but we killed ourselves this game.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: It wasn't Iowa, Iowa State is is a very good football team, but they did not beat us as much as we beat ourselves.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: Agreed.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: You know, I wasn't going into this game expecting a win, but I didn't expect to lose because of our offensive play either.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: And it just seems like we couldn't get anything going on the offense.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: I put a lot of it on the quarterback play.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: I think that was pretty obvious with the way uh Bowman played the entire game, but that wasn't the only unit that was struggling.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, whenever we're looking at our rushing yards, we couldn't establish a rushing game at all.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: And you saw how well we play whenever we established a rushing game.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, we look at the UT game, that's whenever we ran the score up.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, Iowa State may end up being a better team than UT, and I think they probably are, or at least they're a better coached and better established team, uh, not so much talent, maybe.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: But I expect the Texas Tech offense to figure it out, and I just didn't see us figuring it out.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: It kind of felt like we were sticking to something that wasn't working the entire game.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: And I think, again, that's what was so disappointing and frustrating about it, is because our quote unquote best unit on the field blew us the game.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Because you, like you and I were talking about before the episode, the defense has been fine.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: You know, obviously it could still drive you crazy with some of the things they do, but whenever you're holding these Big 12 teams to 30 points, I'll take that all day with any other Texas Tech team.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: You know, whenever we like with obviously we're gonna go back to Patrick Mahomes.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: Like whenever you have like a Patrick Mahomes era team, you have no issue holding a team to 30 points because you know we're gonna go, we're gonna fly past that.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: I'm not even just talking pat teams, like even the Schimonek or uh um McLean days, we are still doing great on the on the on the office of eye side of the ball.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: I'm just disappointed with the way our most famous unit played because it was definitely what cost us the game.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I think we can kind of transition that into uh Matt Wells and David Yost's performance this game.
- 10:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, it wasn't very good.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, but we've seen all season that they want to try to get the run game going and they want to have a balanced offense.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: They don't want to have this pass happy offense where we throw it 70 times a game like we did in the past, going all the way back to Mike Leach.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, but there's a point at which you have to make an adjustment and you can't keep writing with that game plan.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: The Sir Roderick wasn't getting and and this is credit to the Iowa State defensive line because they were awesome this whole game.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, they completely stopped the run game, they didn't get anything going from Sir Roderick Thompson, Xavier White, anybody.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: But at that point, you got to sling it, and you got to put in a quarterback who's able to sling it and it's not playing scared like Alan Bowman was.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: You saw what happened when Henry Columbi came in.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: He came in, 88-yard drive.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: Sir Roderick Thompson ran the ball like twice that whole drive.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: So I mean, you have to make adjustments when you can, and that's the frustrating part about Matt Wells and Coach Yost.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: I don't think going into this game, wanting to have a balanced offense is a bad plan.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: But when it doesn't work out, you have to be able to adjust and make those changes to possibly scrape out a win here.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: I, you know, and so that's the most frustrating part about all this.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: Um, I I guess the offensive line didn't have a great game either, which is which is frustrating because we have a couple good good players on that team or on that line.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, but just you know, defense did their job.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: We have some of the best receivers in the in the in the league, too.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: So that's what's really frustrating about not trusting the passing game because it's potentially your strongest part of the offense.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: So uh again, yeah, I just I just wanted to add that because the offensive game plan and the lack of adjustments just wasn't cutting it.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: And this this Iowa State offense uh defense has been known to be good for the past few years under Campbell, but it's it's it's still we were still a great offensive team, you know.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: We still have the talent, we still have the players that do this.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: It just unfortunately, I think we uh there wasn't enough trust in adjusting the plan to uh penetrate that defense.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: You know, we weren't trying to find those holes early enough to move the ball down the field like Columbia was able to do.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean we had a real chance at the very beginning of the game.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: We make this unbelievable special teams play, block the field goal, and return it for the touchdown.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: You're all you're up seven-nothing, and we took no shots this entire game.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: We played a very uh a very you know laid back kind of game.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: Don't take a lot of shots.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: Let's play, you know, get Sirodric involved, get Xavier White involved, and it just didn't work out.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: And and and that's on Matt Wells for not changing that earlier.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Great point.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: Because think about the best game of the year so far, which is against UT.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Matt Wells played so aggressively, he was all in on risk moves, and it paid off.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: And that's what's frustrating because it kind of felt like we're playing so conservatively these past two games, rather than going all out, because clearly we are in the bottom half of this conference in ability right now.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: So you need to play aggressively, or we don't stand a chance because these other teams are more established, they're better coached at the moment, and you know, there and we're going to get some very experienced guys as well.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: So I think you got to keep them on their heels if we're gonna have any chance of winning this because I don't think playing a conservative game is gonna cut it in this league with this team.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: No doubt, no doubt.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, obviously a sad, sad Saturday for Texas Tech football fans.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: Um, we hope it gets better.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: We have a bye next week.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, I I sincerely hope that Matt Wells opens up the quarterback competition again because honestly, I'm gonna be upset if I see Alan Bowman out there against West Virginia in two weeks, but um, we'll see how it goes.
- 14:01SPEAKER_03: You know, I at this point I'd rather see McGyver out there than than Bowman just to give us something different because it's not working out so far.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: We're one and three, we're oh and three in the Big 12, and uh we got to make some changes, and that needs to happen here pretty soon, or else the entire fan base is gonna be turned on Matt Wells if they haven't already.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: So um and uh so I just want to get touch on a few points of what this game means right now before we move on.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: So this is the worst start to a season in our lifetimes.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: You know, you and I were 24 years old, but the the last time Texas Tech started one and three was in 1993.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: I just it just that just hurts.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: And to give Matt Wells a little bit of a pass, he didn't get the extra gimme games that you would in a normal season with the first three games.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: But I mean, with the way we played against Houston Baptists, I wouldn't consider the G5 to we would have played a W after that.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: So it's just a horrendous start to the season.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: It just kind of feels like like the Houston Baptist game was what we feared it was, it was kind of a marker of how the season would go.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: And to this point, that's how it's been.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: And looking forward, I it's hard to find more wins on this schedule because some of these Big 12 teams are showing life and they're showing the ability to win, and it's something we haven't shown yet, with our especially with our record.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: We are literally dead last in the Big 12.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: We have a worse record than Kansas, technically, in the Big 12.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: So it's incredibly frustrating to watch your uh your favorite team be there when there's a possibility you don't have to be, you know, and it's again it's it's only Matt Wells' second year, but I I I I hate feeling like it's regressed from last year, and that's just so painful whenever you're looking for a new guy to bring us out of the mud where we've been for the past two hires before him.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: So that's just I just wanted to get that out there.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Um, because it's just again another very frustrating loss, and Iowa State and Kansas State are great teams, they've shown out to be, but I I just really hope we can turn this around because it's really getting dark.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you said last time since 1993.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: 93 was tough year, man.
- 16:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, Michael Jordan just finished his first three-peat.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: The NBA is boring.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: I was negative three years old.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: I remember that completely.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: It's yeah, tough, tough, tough for the Red Raiders right now.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: Um, but like we've said the last few weeks, there's still time to turn it around.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: I hope uh I hope we give Columbia his chance because he really deserves it uh after the way he's played against Kansas State and Iowa State.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: And so, you know, I'm just hoping for a little change here.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: But uh moving on to moving on to a little happier times.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: Since we have a bye week next week, we thought we'd introduce a little basketball action here because basketball has been a tremendous high point for Texas Tech recently.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: We're gonna do a little roster breakdown for you for everybody, just to get ready for something good to happen, you know.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: And so we have a we just have a super exciting team going into this year.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm I'm really excited with what Chris Beard has brought in this this season.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: The returning guys, the freshmen, the experienced newcomers.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's just it's it's super exciting coming in.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, man, this is gonna be the happiest 30 minutes or whatever in talking tech history.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: So after we just leave some really sad stats in the past, a sad game in the past, football doesn't even matter.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: Let's be real.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Who cares?
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: Not us.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: We only watch everybody cry every time.
- 17:39SPEAKER_03: No, not me.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't even know what that sport is, that godforsaken sport.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: Texas isn't a football sport, everybody knows that.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, state.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we don't, yeah, none of that.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: None of that.
- 17:51SPEAKER_02: So, all right, man.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: I'm very excited to get into this because this is potentially one of the greatest teams uh Texas Tech has ever seen on their campus.
- 18:00SPEAKER_02: So I would love to hear what you, the basketball maniac, has to say about each and every one of these players on our roster.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: So I say we start this by looking at our freshmen, at the newcomers, the true newcomers into this.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: So let's go ahead and get started, man.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: So we have the first guy, Micah PV, a Cibolo, Texas.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: We got a Texas boy on there, he's a four-star product, and he's looking to make his start here at Texas Tech University.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: He was number two ranked in the class.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Um, in in Texas, I should say.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, he'll number two in Texas and number 32 in the nation.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: It's that is bananas that we are getting kids Texas Tech.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: I just can't believe that.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: So go ahead and tell us some stuff about our boy Micah PV coming in and uh what we can look forward to seeing in him.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: Well, first off, he's a Duncanville guy, so that's the same school that Jamias Ramsey came from.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's a 6'7 forward, he rebounds like hell.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, not a fantastic outside shooter, uh, at least yet, but definitely a solid offensive weapon inside the three-point line.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Um, I think he's gonna add a lot to this team.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, rebounding was such a big part of uh a big uh minus from last year's team.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: We really we had a small team, we really struggled with rebounding in a lot of these games, especially in the Big 12.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: And so bringing in guys like PV, and we'll talk about the rest of them coming forward.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: We have a lot of good rebounders on this team.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: And PV, I like like we're talking about right now, he's a freshman, he's a true freshman coming in.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: Uh, he could be an impact man right away.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: I don't imagine he's a starter, but coming off the bench, I imagine him being uh a solid player, especially as the season progresses.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm gonna do some NBA comparisons uh for the freshman and the newcoming and the transfers and new uh experienced newcoming guys.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: Uh just because Texas Tech fans haven't really seen them yet.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: Um after watching some highlights of Micah PV in in high school, he really reminds me of Jimmy Butler.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: And you know, these NBA comparisons, we're not I'm not calling Micah PV Jimmy Butler, but I am saying his game is a lot like Jimmy Butler.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: If you just watch this finals, uh Butler did not shoot a lot of outside shots, but he made his presence known down in the lane and down finishing at the rim, rebounding, doing all sorts of stuff that he can.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: And I think PV has the potential uh to add a lot to this coming team.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: Do you mind if I ask you if you see any NBA potential in some of these players?
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Do you like Micah?
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: So do you see true NBA potential in him?
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: With PV, with Burnett, with uh a bunch of other guys that we're gonna talk about here.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: I I see a lot of NBA caliber talent on on this on this roster.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: The only the only reason why I asked is because putting players in the NBA is new to Texas Tech, and so I just I want to get excited to see about potential players we can see in the league because you know me, I love cheering on our players no matter on what team they're on, and uh because and that's that's really cool to branch into another league because we've been putting players in the NFL for years.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're uh a football school of the past, but transitioning transition to a possible that I don't know, I don't know, I don't know what school we are.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: But you know, I I I would really like to see some guys in the league, so that's I'm excited to hear if you think some of these players will go there.
- 21:25SPEAKER_03: So yeah, that's why oh absolutely, absolutely.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: I see a lot of potential, especially in this incoming freshman class for sure.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: It helps with recruiting too.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: So no doubt.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: Hey, Jimmy Buckets is not a bad company to be in.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I'm happy with that comparison.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: So up next on the freshman list, we have Jabuzo Agbo from San Diego, California.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: He is a Texas tech four spot four star prospect out of rivals in 24 7 sports.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, I love seeing those stars, man.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: So, what can you tell us about this man?
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, he was recruited, he was just outside of the top 100 recruits of 2020.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: Um, he's another six.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Seven guys, same height as Micah Peavy.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Um, he's solid at a lot of things, but he's not extraordinary at anything.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: You know, he's not like this fantastic shooter, fantastic finisher, fantastic defender, but he's good at a lot of different things.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: Um, according to what Beard has said about him so far, he seems like a hustle guy.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: He seems like kind of a Kevin McCullough 2.0.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: And, you know, he's just he's he's gonna be one, and we're gonna have a lot of hustle guys on a Chris Beard team, but having a guy that really, you know, is is willing to hop on the floor, get loose balls, go, you know, sacrifice your body, it's it's great to have those type of players on your team.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: And really, the kind of NBA comparison I have for him is kind of a taller Marcus Smart because Marcus Smart is one of the he's one of my favorite players in the league because and obviously, you know, he has his past with Texas Tech, and we hate that.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: But but really, if you watch him on the Celtics, he's such a hustle guy.
- 22:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's after everything, but you know, get past the flopping and all this kind of crap that he pulls, but he really is.
- 23:04SPEAKER_03: He sacrifices his body a lot out there, and I think um I think Buzo has it has a chance to be that type of player.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: So this sounds like Beard's ideal player because that is so beard ball is the hustle and physical ball.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: So that's that's great, man.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: Um, do you see an NBA potential in him?
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: I mean, we'll see with him.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's hard to determine until you've seen these guys actually play.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: Obviously, PV and Burnett have kind of a step up because you know they've been highly recruited and and highly touted, but uh we'll see.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: It could just be a a factor of Buzo wasn't he was at a smaller school, maybe.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: I you know, I don't know.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: So we'll we'll see when he gets on the floor.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, man.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: All right, so here comes the big cheese, the man of the class, namari Burnett, Chicago, Illinois, the highest rated recruit in Texas Tech basketball history with five stars next to his name by all accounts, a McDonald's All-American, 2020 Jordan Brand Classic, number 22 in the nation in his class.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Wow, this this is probably the biggest recruit Texas Tech has had across all sports.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, it seems like every year we're we're stepping on that new pedestal of highest recruit in tech history because that was Jamias Ramsey, that was you know, whoever before that.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: But uh Burnett is just an insane athlete.
- 24:23SPEAKER_03: He's 6'4, he's a combo guard.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, you look at him and you and you see how long his arms and how long his legs are, and it's almost a little wacky looking because uh, but having having those those long limbs and those longs long arms to kind of throw off defenders on finishing, it's it's such an extreme advantage.
- 24:43SPEAKER_03: Um, he's got a great handle, um, and he's got great court vision, and that's the thing that that Burnett that puts him so highly touted right now.
- 24:51SPEAKER_03: Um, he'll most likely be a starter from day one.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: I imagine he's a one and done at tech, honestly, because he's I I imagine him being not may he may pull a Jarrett Culver and do his freshman season and then just go after his sophomore year, but I can really see him if he gets, you know, I could see him being Jemaius Ramsey going one year at tech and then bouncing out.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
- 25:14SPEAKER_03: I like getting these guys on the team because that leads to more highly touted recruits wanting to come to tech because they see that they develop NBA talent.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: Um, in terms of NBA comparison, uh, if you've ever seen Shea Gilders Alexander play for the Oklahoma City Thunder, uh, he reminds me of him.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: Obviously, Shea Gilders Alexander is probably got like four inches on Burnett.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: Burnett's about 6'3, 6'4, but uh in terms of play style, playability, he's not as tall as Shay, but he's some of the same finishing style and and you know, some of he he almost plays like a slowed-down game.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: And that's what I love seeing that out of out of a out of a guard because it makes you see the floor more.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, and you know, he's just he's just super active on that end, uh, but he's still just an effective point guard, and he's he's probably gonna be a starter from day one.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: It's crazy to be getting these superstar guys that you would expect on like a Kansas instead.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: So I I love the progression Texas Tech is going under Chris Beard.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: So this this guy, like we said, is probably gonna be the biggest star out of this freshman class going in immediately.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, obviously, we'd love to hang on to him for more than one year, but like you said, if it's if we get if we keep pushing guys into the NBA, we can get guys like these who may not end up being a one and done, even even if they think they're going to be, but you still have those amazing players coming in and playing you know on your team for some time and developing under Chris.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: So great point, man.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: Really excited to see this player.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Uh so up next is the wildest one.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: This is the craziest recrit on the team.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: I'm not I'm not even mean from a talent standpoint.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: I'm talking about Vluslav Golden from Russian Vlad.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: We have Big Vlad, baby.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: We have the sixth.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, not six.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: That is a seven on his name.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: The seven-one big Russian bear coming to Lubbock, Texas.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Can you tell us anything about this insane recruit?
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: It's so hard with uh with Big Vlad right here.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's he's the Russian bear.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: That's all I know about him, because he doesn't have a lot of highlight videos on YouTube.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: He did, he's not so highly recruited.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: What I can tell you is that he came from the same high school that former Texas Tech recruits have come from.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: You know, fan favorite Big Russ, Russell Chewa from last year's team came from Putnam Science Academy.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: Um, you're talking about Malik Undingo, who was on the championship squad in 2019.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Josh Mbala, you know, these type of players, all of them have transferred, which isn't a great sign.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: All the players that have previously come to tech from this high school have transferred, but uh we obviously like to take risks and we like to look at this this specific school.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: So you you love seeing 7-1.
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'll give you that.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: I saw a few plays, he's got like a two-minute highlight video, and that's all you can see on YouTube.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: And he's just he's massive, but he's but with a lot of these high school players that are this tall, they're so skinny, and it doesn't look like they're they're it looks like they're malnourished, to be honest with you, but it's just because they're growing so quick.
- 28:24SPEAKER_03: But uh, he doesn't really look like that.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: He looks like he's coming into his body just fine, which is good.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I obviously coordination is is the biggest factor with some of these big guys, but you know, so it was hard to try to find an NBA comparison for this guy.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: I I put frame of Porzingis, all you all you Mavericks fans.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: Uh he's a real skinny, white, tall white guy, foreign.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: It's an easy comparison.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: Um, but his game's kind of similar to Andrew Bogan.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: He blocks shots, he's uh he's active on the offensive end, mostly for drop-off dunks, but you know, he's he's there.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: Uh so you hope the passing ability comes in there as well.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: That's a major factor for for big guys, but uh big Vlad, I'll be surprised if he gets any any minutes this season, to be honest with you.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: Um, but uh hopefully he turns into something, you know.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: So I mean this guy fits to like an over exaggerated version of the piece you feel like we're missing on the big guys.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: So that and if you're gonna trust anybody to develop a player, uh you gotta uh trust Coach Beard.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: So I'm sure that he can turn this guy into someone who may have not have been the best player if he went anywhere else.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: So if you're gonna trust a staff to transform this giant into a real b-ball player, I I would trust him to happen at Texas Tech.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: So that's that's awesome.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Get some size in there and we'll see where he goes.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: Because I he's just such a fun guy, he's our he's a big Russian, you know.
- 29:52SPEAKER_03: Any any dude, anytime you see a seven-footer come into your program, you're happy.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: So I don't care who you are.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: All right, man.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: So let's let's go ahead and roll to the last of our young boys.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: So we have a red shirt freshman, Tyreek Smith, out of Batchon Rijge, Louisiana.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: He has yet to play on the court at Texas Tech University, but from what we've seen, he's a big athletic guy.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Can you elaborate further on this man?
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so he got hurt last year and he did an injury redshirt.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, he originally committed to Texas AM, decided I don't want to go there.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: Why would I go to College Station?
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: That's a horrible place.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: So he decided to go to Texas Tech.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: It was great.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, I wish he would have played for last year's team because he is, he's like Tristan said, he's a big guy.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: He's 6'8.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: He can jump out of the building, super athletic.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: Um, kind of his game, similar.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: My my NBA comparison for him is Ben Wallace.
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: He's super similar to a guy who just he loves to dunk, he loves the highlight reels, and he loves to block shots.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: And that's great because that was everything we were missing from last year's team is rebounding and blocking shots.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: And so this guy's coming in, he's probably gonna have a few highlight plays this season.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: I imagine he's gonna you know posteriorize a few guys, but Tyreek Smith, uh, you know, there's not much else to say.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: He I I think he's gonna be he's probably the most underrated guy coming into this season because not a lot of people are talking about him.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, obviously, he got hurt last year, so uh not a lot of eyes are on him, and I think he's gonna surprise awesome.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: So that wraps up the freshman.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: And does the only one that seems like a one and done potential be is it only Burnett, you think?
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it's only Namari right now.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: Um, PV obviously he's a he he's a you know highly touted player, and he could break his way into the starting lineup, and who knows, man?
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: Who who really knows?
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: But uh it doesn't look like he's gonna be a starter right away.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: And I imagine PV at least will be a two, three-year guy.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: So we just like to see some guys like keep building up the program, you know, rather than for sure.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: You you like that.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: That's the that's the hard part about when you when you build a basketball program up like this, because you want to have the experienced guys too.
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: And that's why these last few years, Beard has been going for these grad transfers and experience, you know, 50-year senior type of guys.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, you hope at least some of this freshman class is gonna stay for the whole time, you know, until they're seniors.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: So hey, let's use my favorite word.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about segue, talk about a perfect segue.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: Uh, let's talk about Chris Beard's catches, his transfers from other programs.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: We're talking newcomers who aren't new to the game, but very experienced, but new to Texas Tech.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: So let's go ahead and start with uh Joel Nintendo intawe.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: I I can't be the only guy that screws that up.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: No disrespect.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: I it's a tough last name to pronounce looking at it.
- 32:42SPEAKER_02: So thank you for correcting me.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: Uh, he's uh he's a newcomer out of the Congo, he's a red shirt sophomore, and he's out of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: Talk about ace.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: Another steal from that school.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: I'm so sorry to the rebs who are listening to this for whatever reason.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: I'm I I feel for y'all.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: We get Beard, the best coach in our history, and then we steal uh who looks like a great ad to our team.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: So, what can you tell us about this man?
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: UNLV transfer.
- 33:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, we all know the story.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: He was denied his immediate waiver to play last season for last year's team.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Uh, we were all super disappointed in it.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: We're oh the the problem, and we'll get into this when we talk about Mac McClung, but the waiver process has been so frustrating uh with the NCAA because they're just inconsistent.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: And I mean, all it takes, uh, and I think a lot of it, honestly, is their former school not cooperating because when a player doesn't get a waiver, it's it's almost because the other school is just denying it and telling them they need to sit a year for leaving us, and and that's you know, a super petty way to go at it.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: And I don't think UNLV was very cooperative.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you know, we we we took Chris Beard from them.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: Um, and so I'm sure they're not super happy that they have a guy coming there from their school who who was looking to be a really good player, um, and you know, kind of transitioning to how Ntabway is as a player.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: He's 6'8, he's 220, he's a forward, he looks to be NBA caliber, he's got all the tools that you need.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: Um, average 12 and five and a half rebounds, 12 points a game and five and a half rebounds for UNLV as a as a freshman.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Um, but he's he's a solid three-point shooter.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: That's the thing about him, and that's a little different from the rest of our 6'8, 6'9 guys, is he's a solid three-point shooter.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: He can get outside and knock down a few uh long-range jumpers.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: You forgot 7'1.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's not he's not quite big Vlad, uh, but he is still pretty pretty big and he can actually dribble a little bit.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure Vlad may struggle with that a little bit.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: But uh, like I said, long athletic wing, he's got a pretty release on that jumper.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: My NBA comp after watching a few of his highlights, it's Paul George, man.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: He looks like Paul George out there, and that's I mean, that's saying something because Paul George is is an NBA all-star.
- 35:06SPEAKER_03: He's a fantastic player, but he really looks like him.
- 35:10SPEAKER_03: He he he can back up defenders when he's getting in low and he can still shoot the three outside.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: He can kind of he's kind of an all-around guy, and so that's what I see out of it in Tabway.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: Well, he we'll take a comparison like that all day.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: Um, obviously, a great grab for us, you know.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: Like you said earlier, Chris Beard loves his vets, so I love I can't wait to see him finally be on the court after what happened last year.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: All right, so we're heading into what was probably the biggest news of the transfer portal to Texas Tech.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: I'm talking Mac, the mackerel.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: Mackerel, the mackerel.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: We're talking about a guard who's out of Gates City, Virginia.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: He's the Georgetown transfer, uh famously NBA prospect, athletic freak, and he has yet to receive his waiver wire.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: Please tell us who is probably the biggest news in the transfer about him.
- 36:02SPEAKER_02: What's what's going on there?
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: First off, I want to give the Texas Tech fans kind of a sigh of relief.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: It it looks like, according to Chris Beard himself, who was on a few podcasts recently, it looks like Georgetown's cooperating, uh, which is the best news you can hear out of this.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: Um, if Georgetown, you know, gives the okay, he's basically got a waiver to play, which is great.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: But um, he's six foot two, he's kind of he's a he's quick, man.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: He's versatile, he's insanely athletic freak.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, if you've seen anything from his from his high school highlight reel, he was one of those YouTube sensations that pops up every once in a while.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: That's just unbelievable.
- 36:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's this short little white kid, and I say short, he's still about six two, but short for basketball.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: And dude just comes in and just flies out of the building, man.
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: And and these dunks that he's doing between the legs, I mean, some crazy, you know, tomahawk stuff, it's insane.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: And uh watching his highlights at Georgetown, that's not really how he plays, though.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: You know, he he's not this guy who just drives in the lane Russell Westbrook style and just goes up and dunks over people.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: He uh loves to do that when he's got space, but he's kind of more outside and then he loves to drive inside uh to the lane, you know, on the pick and roll.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: They didn't have a lot of pick and roll action at Georgetown, and that's probably why they were so bad.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: But he's uh he's versatile, he's got solid shooting range.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: He's not quite the three-point shooter that you want him to be, but he's great at getting into the lane.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, like I said, can jump out of the building.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: He averaged 16-3-2 uh in 2020 for the Hoyas.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, you want to get those assist numbers up.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: Only two assists a game is not great for a guard, but averaging 16 points a game, I mean, obviously that shows it's it's it's he's super encouraging.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: Uh my NBA comparison's a little weird.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: It's it's a taller Nate Robinson.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: And if you've seen Nate Robinson play, he's 5'9, a little bitty guy, but played for the Knicks, played for a few other different teams, won a few dunk contests, he could jump out of the building, and he was still a solid player.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Could and and if you saw him actually play during all you know, most everybody just sees the highlights, but when you're looking at how they play, you know, on a minute-to-minute basis, yeah, Nate Robinson was kind of the same way.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: He tried to drive in the lane, do a few little floaters, and if you have a few extra inches like McClung does on Nate Robinson comparingly, you know, it that's a good sign.
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: So I'm really excited for Mac, man.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: I I really hope he gets that piece of paper.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: I don't want another uh Joel situation.
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: Um, and Georgetown's a solid program historically, even if they haven't been that great recently.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: So it's a great program to steal from.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: Uh I say steal, but it's a great program to get a player from.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: And I give all the credit to Patrick Mahomes for getting Mac the mackerel.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: So thank you, Patrick Mahomes, for everything you ever do, ever.
- 38:52SPEAKER_03: Thank you, Patrick Mahomes, for everything.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't care what you do in your life.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: If you fed your dog, congratulations in a very pretty hat.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: Very good.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: We'll make a plaque for it.
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: Well, that that that's awesome, man.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: So let's go ahead and keep moving on.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, all these guys are fun to talk about.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: So we have Jamarius Burton, who is out of Charlotte, North Carolina, another, another guy out of another bigger program.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: You know, we're talking about a Wichita straight state transfer, one of the best uh teams from the Midwest there.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Um, so what do you got to say about him?
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's a 6'4 combo guard.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, we talked about him recently when he received his waiver.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: He has received his waiver to immediately play.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: So we have him on the roster as of right now.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: I uh there was there was some talk that he was gonna possibly redshirt and not play this season.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think he is gonna play this season, but uh, you know, things could change uh even by the time you're listening to this.
- 39:48SPEAKER_03: But he's he's probably the most underrated transfer that we have right now.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: Um, he he's a combo guard, so he can play point guard, shooting guard, whatever.
- 39:56SPEAKER_03: Um, he adds to the team's depth.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: He's uh depth, I should say.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: Um great off the pick and roll.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: That's that's all the highlights you see when you look at his highlight package from from Wichita State is the uh great pick and roll player coming off, shooting that mid-range jumper, you know, possibly making a move and driving, or even you know, coming out shooting the three ball.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: He shot great from three, 38 is a solid percentage for a freshman in college, no doubt.
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: Um, and uh my NBA comparison for him is probably CJ McCollum, not in terms of uh the actual shooting ability, but how he shoots, how he plays off pick and roll.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: CJ McCollum, one of the best pick and roll guys in the NBA.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: So uh you hope you know Jamarius develops into some player like that.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: Um, and I and you know, last thing I'll say is he averaged 10, 3-3 in 2020 for the for the shockers.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: That's a solid, you know, balanced uh stat line.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: So you'd love to see it.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: You've been talking about this guy all season.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: You love this dude.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: I do, he's he's so underrated.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to see if your hype comes to fruition.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, very excited to see him get on the court.
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: All right, man.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: So uh we'll round out the transfers here.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: And uh we have Marcos Santos Silva out of Massachusetts.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: So, what do you gotta say about this uh senior out of Virginia uh Commonwealth University?
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: Another solid program.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: That's three in a row that we've gotten a player from.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: So only grad transfer that we got, which means he's a very experienced guy, fifth-year senior.
- 41:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, I I talk about uh Jamarius Burton, I love Jamari's Burton, I love all of our transfers, but Marcus Santo Silva is my favorite of the transfers because he adds something to the team that we did not have last year.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: He's an extremely good rebounder.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: He averaged almost 12 rebounds a game last year.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: And for for his height, you wouldn't ex you wouldn't expect that.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: He's six foot seven, but the body, dude, he's like a tank out there.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: He boxes out, he does all the fundamentals that you love to see.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: He provides experience rebounding, he's a solid inside offensive weapon.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: He kind of plays below the rim.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: He's not like this high-flying dunker.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: He likes his layups, he likes posts up, he likes he likes all that kind of stuff.
- 42:13SPEAKER_03: He's super strong and he's got long arms, and that's where the rebounding kind of comes into play.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: Um, the only downside for this guy is he's a very bad free throw shooter.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: So when you're a big guy playing down low, you get fouled a lot.
- 42:26SPEAKER_03: Santo Silva, I think, only shot about 45% from the free throw line, which is not good.
- 42:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's Shaq, but he's not uh he's not seven foot one and one of the and he's not one of the best players of all time.
- 42:40SPEAKER_03: So yes, yes, love Marcus though.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: He was awesome for VCU.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Um, NBA comparison.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna put it a Dennis Rodman with an offensive game.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: Dennis Rodman, obviously one of the best rebounders in NBA history, uh, and could you know potentially finish on the offensive end.
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: Also a great defender.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, I didn't add that about Santos Elvo, but he is he's a solid defender.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm gonna put Dennis Rodman with offensive game for for Marcus.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: I like your point as to he's your favorite transfer because he fills the role that you think we're missing the most.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: And I think that's probably the biggest goal out of a transfer.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: You're not exactly looking for a superstar out of the transfers, you're looking for someone that can help complete your team, right?
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: So uh very excited to see him kind of complete the puzzle.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: So, out of those four guys we were just talking about, do any of them strike you big with NBA potential?
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, they all kind of I mean Mac McClung went through the NBA draft process this offseason, uh, and was and kind of decided to to opt out and go back to school.
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then he decided to train.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: I I guess he got some information of saying, hey, you know, go to another school, get some get some more reps, get on a winning team.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: You may you may uh have some NBA talent.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: But I'm sure that's that's all these guys want to make it to the NBA.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: Uh the most though of these four.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: I would say is Intabwe because he's got the the the metrics.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: He's got six foot eight.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: He's every you know he's LeBron James's height.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: He's got the body.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: He can shoot threes already.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: You know, he he's just got to develop certain aspects of his game uh to get to that point.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: So I'd probably put Joel Intabwe up there at the top of uh the list of who I see possibly being you know the best NBA player, but uh Mac and you know, Jamarius and and even Santosilva could potentially you know make it on a roster.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Good news there, man.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: Okay, so let's go ahead and get to the boys we all know and love.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: You know, let's get to the guys that have been on the team for a while now and uh see where they're kind of shaping up to go forward this season.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: So we'll go ahead and click it, uh kick it off here with Clarence Nadalny, the Frenchman.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: He's a uh he's a guard out of France.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: He was a three-star originally coming out of France, uh rated as the number 43 combo guard, and this is year two for him.
- 44:58SPEAKER_02: So, what do you gotta say here going into this his next year?
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: Where do you think this is gonna uh change for him?
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: What's what's gonna happen there?
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: I have to say that your French accent is phenomenal for all.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: No, but uh Clarence I he didn't get a lot of playing time last year because he was a true freshman, but he's uh he's a small quick guard, he seems to have good court awareness.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: Um, he showed some good signs last season, uh, like I said, in limited playing time.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Uh but you know, he he has the potential to be the backup point guard behind either Burnett, you know, uh McClung, whoever decides to be the starting starting day guards.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: I can see Clarence, you know, possibly taking that backup role and playing a solid 20 minutes a game at most.
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I I just hope to see improvement on his jump shot and ability to finish through contact.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: If you're a little guy, you know, hopefully he's gained some strength and uh he can get up there and and finish through some of these some of these trees that the Big 12 has.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: Um, but I really like Clarence.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: I'm glad he stayed on the team.
- 45:59SPEAKER_03: I I was I was pretty convinced he was gonna transfer after last season because of all the you know missing rosters or you know, we can only fill so many scholarship roles.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: So I'm glad to see he's back with the team.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: You love to see a guy who's back with the team just in general because he knows beard, he knows the system.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: It's another year that he's at Texas Tech, and uh, I'm excited for Clarence.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: Wee wee.
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: Man, it it's kind of crazy how we have this is another European guard, you know.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: That's that's that's on our Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, you know, basketball team.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: That's kind of wild when you think about it.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it's it's it's weird because and we didn't we haven't really talked about what we lost from last year's team, and we'll get into that, you know, in the future or whatever.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: But two of the biggest losses were were Davide Moretti and and Jim and uh Jamays Ramsey.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: So, you know, losing those type of guys, it uh especially two of your leading scorers, you have to make up for that guard play.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: And I think Clarence, you know, having that depth, it's it's always it's another guy, you know, to make up for for that pointage.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: So um love love love to have Clarence back on this team.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: Uh this guy's probably a potential four-year guy, right?
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: You think he i mean he hasn't been just sick of the team the whole time, you know, maybe not transferring.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: You know, it's it's it's always tough to tell on a year-by-year basis because more grad transfers every single year, more more transfers.
- 47:21SPEAKER_03: This is the highest.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: This past offseason was the highest number of transfers in the portal that we've ever had.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: So you really don't know, but uh you hope to have a guy that's that's with your team for for you know four years.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: So up next is the player everybody is the most familiar with.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: It's the man, Kyler Edwards, from Arlington, Texas.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: We got another Texas boy here coming back.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: He's uh he's a junior and he was on the national championship team.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: He is a a true vet in every sense of the word.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: So, what do you got to say about him going into his upperclassman years here?
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: He's the leader of this team.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: He is.
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: He's uh he's a guy that Beard absolutely loves.
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: He's a junior, so he's got some of the most experience on this roster.
- 48:04SPEAKER_03: Like you said, he's one of two remaining guys, him and Avery Benson from the 2019 team that made it to the championship game.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, and he he's just he's just a great player.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: The underrated part of Kyler Edwards is his defensive game.
- 48:17SPEAKER_03: He's such a good defender in every aspect of it.
- 48:20SPEAKER_03: You know, he'll he'll even get up and block shots for being a guard.
- 48:24SPEAKER_03: And that's that's the part that keeps Kyler Edwards on the floor.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: He didn't shoot particularly well from three last season.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: You know, he shot about 32%.
- 48:33SPEAKER_03: And in, you know, for a guy that took almost 153s last season, that's not fantastic.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: But, you know, we want to see improvement in that.
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: His defense is why he's on the floor.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: He's also a good offensive player.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, I'm saying he wasn't a fantastic three-point shooter, but he's got a great stroke and he has all the ability to become one of the better, you know, offensive weapons in the Big 12 this year.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: Um, if you can also get that free throw percentage up, I'd like it.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, he was shooting about 77, which isn't bad for a free throw percentage, but if he can get to 80 plus, you know, that's just an extra little boost for you.
- 49:06SPEAKER_03: So uh love Kyler, love everything he brings to the team.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, man.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: And he's he's got big shoes to fill up, that lead guard role.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: You know, we're talking about a man who's fallen in the the position of Keenan Evans.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: So, no doubt.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: Pretty pretty awesome.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: I hope he he takes on that veteran role like his past predecessors have, and I'm sure he will.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: And especially whenever he's being led by Chris Beard for three years, he's you know he's gonna be a quality player.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: So up next, we got Terrence Shannon Jr.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: out of Chicago, Illinois, the sophomore, originally a four-star coming out of high school.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: He's Big 12, all freshman team honors, number 92 on the top 100 of ESBN coming out of high school.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: It's kind of one of the beginnings of the Crispbeard recruiting trailblazing, you know.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: So, what do you gotta say about this man?
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Terrence, man, he's athletic as all hell.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: He can jump out of the building, he's got the quickest first step I've seen of a lot of players, man.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: He uh, you know, when he's got that ball in kind of the three-point stance and he just makes that first move, he's probably getting past you.
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: He's that quick, and he's got great height, he's getting at uh NBA hype.
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, you just love to see it from this guy.
- 50:19SPEAKER_03: The one thing he's a lefty, that's always an advantage if you're in if you're a basketball player, uh, just because it throws everybody off, you have to you know change everything.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, but he needs to improve his jump shot.
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: That's the one thing about uh Terrence Shannon that that really was not fantastic about him last year.
- 50:36SPEAKER_03: Um, not a great shooter.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: If he can improve that, he's really got a lot of potential.
- 50:41SPEAKER_03: Uh, but I love his passion and I love his Twitter presence.
- 50:44SPEAKER_03: I love how he's always trying to get guys to Texas Tech.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: He seems to be taking that that kind of leadership role as a sophomore, uh, which you love to see.
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: And so, you know, uh Terrence Shannon, he's gonna be a big part of this team.
- 50:57SPEAKER_03: He's gonna be a starter, he's he's gonna be uh what you want from a from a basketball player.
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: He's one of two from Chi Town.
- 51:04SPEAKER_03: What's with this pipeline we got to Chi Town right now, huh?
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Hey man, Lubbock, Texas, we got good Chicago dogs, maybe.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 51:11SPEAKER_02: No, the comparison is the wind.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, Chicago is a good thing.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: That's true of the city, but I'm sure in reality it doesn't hold a candle to Lubbock, Texas when it comes to the wind.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: There's not a lot of sand in Chicago, though.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: We we have just a lot of dirt and a lot of sand that's blown up in that wind.
- 51:27SPEAKER_03: But yeah, you're right about the wind, man.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: That's that's awesome, man.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: And it's it's great to have that experience under Chris Beard in the system, even if it's just a year two.
- 51:38SPEAKER_02: So excited to see how these players, these players grow up in a system.
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: So moving on is the giddy up cowboy out of Springdale, Arkansas.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: The one of the most iconic players, the most Texas tech of them all, honestly, Avery Benson, redshirt junior.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: He was on the he was one of two of the natty team.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: He's a true vet.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: And probably the cool story about him, besides wearing that 10-gallon hat everywhere he goes, is he was offered a scholarship by Coach Beard while Coach Beard was still uh coaching a straw, a solid little rock team.
- 52:12SPEAKER_02: So that's that's just wild.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: Those are just movie moments that you that you know you see in the program.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: And what can he say about our favorite, favorite bearded cowboy?
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: Every team needs a country boy, every single basketball team needs a country boy.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: I've said this for years.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: No, but in all honesty, Avery Benson brings a bench presence.
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, think of Patty Mills with the Spurs, think of those type of guys because he's he's not gonna necessarily get a ton of minutes this year.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: He's just not uh he was a former walk-on that that deser that uh uh you know received a well-deserved scholarship uh for this Texas Tech team.
- 52:49SPEAKER_03: He's a hustle guy, he's a guy that'll come in for five minutes or 10 minutes of the game and just bust his ass for for those you know few limited minutes that he gets.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: Um, he's a just a good locker room presence, man.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: He's a guy that wants to bring the team together, he's a guy that that loves Coach Beard, he's a guy that loves Texas Tech, loves the program.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's he's uh he's uh he's your player's favorite player.
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: So, you know, Avery Benson and he's got the best hair in the game.
- 53:18SPEAKER_03: Uh in terms of just uh just uh basketball ability, he's a solid defender, and that and you know, he's got a decent shot, uh, it can drive to the rim and he'll get fouled and and you know get to the free throw line.
- 53:30SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, like I said, he's he's just one of one of everybody.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: Well, he's a fan favorite with with the Red Raiders.
- 53:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 53:39SPEAKER_02: Like, like we said, uh tatted Taddy Avery is uh definitely Texas Tech and Carden, man.
- 53:46SPEAKER_02: And he like he just seems like such a solid dude that loves everything about Texas Tech and his basketball program.
- 53:51SPEAKER_02: So, and again, we had he's a natty team presence, too.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: He's got the most experience you'd ever want out of a player, so even just having that in the locker room is a positive.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, even though he's not he's not the the the superstar of the program, he's he's definitely the guy that you want on the support.
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: So that's it's that's great to see, man.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: All right, here we go.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: We're gonna end this.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: This is at the last player of this phenomenal roster.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: We have Kevin McCullough at a San Antonio, Texas, red shirt sophomore from Steven and I, one of Steven and I's rival high schools of our album modern, Spison Valley.
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: He went to Wagner High School, he's also a red shirt sophomore.
- 54:33SPEAKER_02: He was 19th in the state of Texas, and the coolest part about him is his father played football at Texas Tech University, went on to play for Green Bay.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: So, and a notable program he chose uh uh tech over was Louisville.
- 54:47SPEAKER_02: So I think I just really like seeing the progress this program is making to nab guys over programs like that.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: So, what we gotta say about Kev 210 represent San Antonio.
- 54:58SPEAKER_03: We love it, Kev.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, but in all honesty, just like everybody needs a country boy, everybody needs a hustle man.
- 55:04SPEAKER_03: You know, we talked about it a little bit with Chubozo.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: It Kevin McCullough is a hustle guy.
- 55:10SPEAKER_03: He's a guy that gets on the floor, he's a guy that grabs rebounds, he's a guy that just busts his ass for you know however many minutes he gets a game.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: He's always on the floor, he's always active on the boards.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: Uh I love his drive uh to play for this team.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: He really seems like a guy who wants to get better every single day, wants to get in the weight room, wants to get stronger, wants to, you know, potentially make it to that next level.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: Um, he needs to stay healthy for uh, and that's everything with these hustle guys.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: You know, they're on the floor a lot, they're they're busting their body, you know, they're uh it's it's just tough, and he needs to stay healthy.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, he's had some injuries in the past in high school and his uh freshman season at Texas Tech.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, he was kind of hurt a little bit.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: But, you know, I I think the main thing for him is he needs to get more confident in him in his jump shot because he's a good shooter.
- 55:59SPEAKER_03: And we saw a lot last season where he did not seem confident, he did not want to take that jump shot, he did not want to take that three, passed up a few opportunities.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: But if he gets more confident in that part of his game, I think he'll be a really, really phenomenal player for Texas Tech.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: Um he just looked hesitant in some of these things, and and if he stops with that, if he plays like he does defensively, if he plays like he does off the ball, he's gonna be a fantastic player.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, man.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: And that that's I think that's a great guy to end it on because that's a great guy to have on your team.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: And I know you and I are pretty pumped to have a uh guy out of San Anton, our hometown, uh come up to Tortilla Tech.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: So very cool about that, man.
- 56:40SPEAKER_02: And I could not be more excited about this basketball program uh and team this season because Texas Tech fans deserve something to look forward to.
- 56:48SPEAKER_02: And I think this basketball team is definitely that.
- 56:51SPEAKER_02: Our football program is not there yet, and I hope and I hope it will be under Wells.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: Right now it's just not there yet.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: And so I'm very excited to see Chris Beard come into another year at Texas Tech, a legend in the making.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: It's already there, but man, how excited about you are you about the future of this program?
- 57:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's there's no there's no more words I can say about Chris Beard.
- 57:18SPEAKER_03: The dude is uh the best thing to happen to Texas Tech in a long time.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: Maybe him and it him and Tadlock, you know, both are have just been such pioneers for for our specific programs, you know, our baseball and our basketball programs.
- 57:31SPEAKER_03: But uh this team has just sky high potential and and really I can see us can going far, not just in the Big 12, but in the NCAA tournament.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: If I'm being honest, I I don't think I would ever have expected Texas Tech to compete a national title for anything other than baseball under Tadlock.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: So I I know I know when you and me both went into Texas Tech in 2014, we were not expecting a good basketball program, but now it's what we look forward to.
- 57:57SPEAKER_03: So that's a little weird, but uh it's also it's also great that we have a program that's this good.
- 58:02SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, and then the Big 12 you have to be good.
- 58:05SPEAKER_02: This is year in, year out, arguably the best league in the country.
- 58:09SPEAKER_02: So and I help that I think that also helps drive our program to be better, which is great.
- 58:13SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I love the competition.
- 58:15SPEAKER_02: I love going up against the the the founder of the sport itself, Kansas University, University of Kansas, there.
- 58:22SPEAKER_02: So uh I I love being in that discussion.
- 58:26SPEAKER_02: It makes me so damn proud to be a red raider.
- 58:29SPEAKER_02: So I there's not I don't think I don't think I think we're just talking what everybody else is thinking, all who's listening to us right now.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: I I it's the best, it was the best part about our tenure at Texas Tech, and I'm sure our our listeners, especially those who are at tech right now, agree.
- 58:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt, man.
- 58:45SPEAKER_03: We uh we look forward to basketball season.
- 58:47SPEAKER_03: But uh, you know, we had we introduced a new segment last year, or last year, I should say last week.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: Um, our buddy Logan and his sports gambling, I should probably call it a uh a problem with my man Logan.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: Uh Logan is a problem in general.
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's just a problem.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: He's just a he's a massive an individual.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: We love the crap out of him, though.
- 59:08SPEAKER_03: But uh he he wrote in another uh another segment for his luscious locks of the week.
- 59:15SPEAKER_03: Um and you know, it's longer.
- 59:18SPEAKER_03: He went 0 for 2 last week, but like we said, we gave you warning.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: We gave you warning.
- 59:23SPEAKER_03: I'm keeping track.
- 59:24SPEAKER_03: It's good roasting material.
- 59:26SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, for sure.
- 59:27SPEAKER_04: Now it's time for Logan's luscious locks.
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, do you want to read it off or do you want me to read it off?
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: This is really long.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: However, I stop, you pick it up.
- 59:38SPEAKER_03: Okay, you go ahead.
- 59:39SPEAKER_03: Okay, so this is this is this week's segment of uh luscious locks with Logan.
- 59:45SPEAKER_02: All right, let's do this.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Intro.
- 59:48SPEAKER_02: The luscious locks came out flat on their starting week.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: So this week we will enhance ourselves with more volume for maximum flow.
- 59:58SPEAKER_02: Game one.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: The SMU line is minus 6.5 this week versus Tulane.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: They did lose their cheat code receiver who had almost 250 yards on five catches, and as well as their starting running back for this season and their win against Memphis, make it rain, Shane Bouchel can still whip it back and forth and will still have what it takes to beat Tulane by seven.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: Tulane has no passing offense, and the only reason they looked half oppressive, half impressive versus Houston was because U of H had five turnovers in the first game of the season.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: SMU will is rolling, it won't make those mistakes.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: Saturday morning, we will be looking at a different type of football overseas where the Red Coats roam.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: Everton and Liverpool, ever Everton and Liverpool face off before the international play break.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: Everton has been an over machine, and Liverpool will score at least once or twice in every game.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: Over three goals.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_02: Well, at least push, even if Liverpool decides to rest a few guys for their championship champions league game coming a few days later on.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_03: Packers minus two versus the Tampa Bay Bucks.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: Aaron Rodgers put all of his ratings to 99 before this season and is placing that pig skin perfectly and is picking apart the poorest defenses.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: Both teams have injuries in the receiving corpse, but Aaron can make it worth work with anybody.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_03: Brady will simply be the little brother in this game, and we all know how Aaron feels about brothers.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: Likely will be a shootout, but Rodgers is better than Brady, so they get the edge, and that is the ender to Logan's luscious locks.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: He even got in the Champions League, man.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: He got into some soccer.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: Breaker to y'all.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: We Steven and I don't know anything about international soccer.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_03: Says you.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_03: I think no, I don't know.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: I don't even know.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: There's like it's like that sport is year-round.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_03: I don't know what league is happening when and what's happening, what Liverpool.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: I don't even know.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: We're sounding American as hell right now.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_03: I don't even know where the hell Liverpool is.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_02: So it's in England.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_03: Okay, cool.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: Well, y'all, that was three games.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: He went two games last uh week, so let's see where he's at next next episode.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, we'll we'll see how that goes.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_02: So trust your money where you think you should go.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, so that's gonna end uh Logan's Luscious Locks.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_03: But we are getting into our segment we've been doing from week one.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_03: Tristan, give me your song of the week.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: All right, so I was thinking about what my song of the week would be this week, and I couldn't believe that I haven't picked what is probably the biggest band out of Lubbock, Texas, right now, and as the Flatland Cavalry.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_02: I'm sure many who are listening right now are very familiar with them.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_02: Almost all of them are Texas Tech alumni, and they they love their school, they love Lubbock, Texas.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: So my song of the week is one of their latest jams off of their newest album, Homeland Insecurity, and it's come back down, absolute jam the whole time.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_02: So it's just one of those feel-good rock and rolling country songs, and uh it's it's all about you know what's what it's like to go back to your hometown after a good while.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: So it's a great song.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_02: Hope y'all enjoy it.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_03: Hey man, you love flatland cavalry.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_03: I know that's if that's one thing about you, you're you're a big cavalry guy.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_03: So um, yeah, man, great, great song.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_03: I'll have to check it out um as usual.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_03: But uh my song of the week, I'm gonna give you something that you and me talked about on one of our drunken escapades.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_03: Uh, I can't tell you why by the Eagles, such a jam.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_03: I know everybody knows the Eagles from their hotel California, from Life in the Fast Lane.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_03: They have unlimited, you know, uh uh award-winning songs, but I can't tell you why is my favorite Eagle song.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_03: It's so smooth, and it's such it it should be on everybody's relaxation playlist.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_03: It's such a good jam.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_03: I can't tell you why by the Eagles.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_04: I can't tell you why.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: I can't tell you why one of the greatest uh rock bands of all time, and man, they got a bit of a country twist to their music, too.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, man, for sure.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's absolutely kind of like a SoCal country rock sort of deal.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_02: You know, I love it.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_02: So yeah, the Eagles man the Eagles definitely cross genres a little bit, for sure, especially with like Desperado and uh uh Tequila Sunrise.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: So great pick, man.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_02: Never get tired of jamming out to one of the goats.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_03: No doubt, no doubt.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_03: The Eagles.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_03: But uh kind of to end the podcast, wanted to give a uh a couple shouts out.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, shouts out to the Lakers, you know, for winning the 2020 NBA championship.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, I you can't deny LeBron's greatness.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_03: It's his fourth ring.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, you feel good for him.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_03: Uh, but you know, I'm a big Lakers hater, but you can't you can't deny that that team was awesome this season.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_03: Uh Anthony Davis, probably the perfect compliment for LeBron James in his career.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, some people argue Dwayne Wade, but I really think it's Anthony Davis.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_03: He's uh it's it's nice to have two top five players on your team, uh for sure.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_03: But um another shout out uh to Dak Prescott, obviously.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_03: Uh if you're a Cowboys fan, if you're not a Cowboys fan, you saw the uh horrific injury that he uh experienced this past weekend.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_03: Uh you don't want to see that for anybody.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't care how much you hate the team or hate the player or whatever, you never want to see a guy get hurt like that.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_03: Um, and and Dak Prescott, you know, he's a uh universally beloved player, especially among NFL, you know, his fellow NFL players and and cowboy fans.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_03: But uh, you know, tough, tough deal for for Prescott.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_03: It really was.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, Paul George, uh, Gordon Hayward type injury, Joe Theisman type injury, it sucked to see.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_03: But uh, shout out to Dak Prescott.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_03: Hope he gets better soon.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_02: Just seems like a man that is a solid citizen in every right.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_02: So uh obviously speedy recovery to him.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_02: He's got a lot of football to play.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_02: He's a young man.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_03: He's and and he'll recover.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, talk about any guy that that uh can recover from a gruesome injury like that is Dak.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: So uh shout out to him.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_03: But I think that's gonna end it here for our uh our 11th episode of Talk and Tech Pod.
