- 0:11Hello friends. It's Sean.
- 0:13Here it is Tuesday. It's the 11th of the 11th, the
- 0:1811th of November. And of course, in Australia this
- 0:21is the day where we celebrate Remembrance Day.
- 0:24So if you are listening at like a few minutes before 11:00, you
- 0:28should pause and take a moment to reflect at 11:00 about all of
- 0:33those people who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the
- 0:36freedom and the way we get to Live Today.
- 0:39What a gift they have given us. So today we remember them, lest
- 0:44we forget. But for the rest of the day,
- 0:47life continues, right? And that was the whole point of
- 0:49their sacrifice, so life could continue.
- 0:52And for us, that means taking a moment, settling down before our
- 0:56God and hearing what he has to share with us through his word.
- 1:00And this, this is a really chatty letter, isn't it?
- 1:03It's really familiar and friendly and relational.
- 1:07So it really gives us a flavour of what that early Christian
- 1:11ministry was like for those apostles.
- 1:13It really wasn't just, you know, being a roving preacher, but it
- 1:17really was coming into communities and encouraging and
- 1:20inspiring and supporting and teaching and then with great
- 1:24pains, leaving and moving on to the next community.
- 1:28Ah, beautiful stuff. And today is a short reading,
- 1:31only 13 verses long. So we will soak every one of
- 1:34them up as we hear what the Holy Spirit has to teach us.
- 1:39Holy Spirit, open up our hearts so that we can hear Your truth
- 1:45delivered to us for our lives today.
- 1:50All right friends, let's do it. Let's read together First
- 1:52Thessalonians chapter 3. Finally, when we could stand it
- 2:07no longer, we decided to stay alone in Athens and we sent
- 2:11Timothy to you. He is our brother and God's Co
- 2:15worker in proclaiming the good news of Christ.
- 2:18We sent him to strengthen you, to encourage you in your faith,
- 2:22and to keep you from being shaken by the troubles you were
- 2:25going through. But you know that we were
- 2:28destined for such troubles. Even while we were with you.
- 2:32We warned you that troubles would soon come, and they did,
- 2:35as you well know. That is why, when I could bear
- 2:38it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out whether your faith was
- 2:42still strong. I was afraid that the tempter
- 2:45had gotten the best of you and that our work had been useless.
- 2:51But now Timothy has just returned, bringing us good news
- 2:54about your faith and love. He reports that you always
- 2:58remember our visit with joy, and that you want to see us as much
- 3:02as we want to see you. So we have been greatly
- 3:05encouraged in the midst of our troubles and suffering.
- 3:08Dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong
- 3:12in your faith, it gives us new life to know that you are
- 3:15standing firm in the Lord. How we thank God for you.
- 3:20Because of you, we have great joy as we enter God's presence
- 3:25night and day. We pray earnestly for you,
- 3:28asking God to let us see you again to fill the gaps in your
- 3:32faith. My God our Father and our Lord
- 3:36Jesus Christ bring us to you very soon, and may the Lord make
- 3:41your love for one another and for all people grow and
- 3:44overflow. Just as our love for you
- 3:47overflows. May He as a result make your
- 3:51heart strong, blameless and holy as you stand before God our
- 3:56Father, when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy
- 4:00people. Amen.
- 4:13Well, thank you for this reminder that when you called us
- 4:18into a life of faith in you, not only did you call us into that
- 4:22relationship with you, but also you called us into community so
- 4:27that we can encourage each other.
- 4:30And here we hear these words of Paul and Silas, how they're so
- 4:35encouraged by their brothers and sisters in faith.
- 4:41Lord, place people in our lives that need encouragement in their
- 4:45faith so that we can encourage them so that we can speak your
- 4:50words of kindness and point them back to you as they struggle.
- 4:54And Lord, all of us go through times of struggle.
- 4:57And as we do, Lord, please in your generosity, place in our
- 5:01lives people who can speak words of encouragement and draw us
- 5:07back to you and remind us of the beauty of that relationship that
- 5:12we have with you, the peace that we find in you, the joy that we
- 5:15can find in you, and ultimately all that you have done for us
- 5:21and all that you make us in your presence and your family.
- 5:26You are a good, good God. Use community to continually
- 5:31draw us to you and use us as part of this community.
- 5:37Thank you for the privilege of being part of your mission work.
- 5:41What an incredible joy it is. So we love you, and we thank
- 5:46you, and we praise you, and we pray all of this in your
- 5:50precious name, Jesus, Amen.
