- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, winning ugly and at this point of the season,
- 0:02Speaker 1: it survived in advance. He did both of those today.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It doesn't matter what it looks like. You just have
- 0:07Speaker 2: to grind it out. And I thought today we you know,
- 0:10Speaker 2: we had to grind it out, and you know, we
- 0:13Speaker 2: had open looks, open shots, and we normally make but
- 0:17Speaker 2: we get to enjoy another day.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yes, talking with Asy, she felt like, and we've talked
- 0:24Speaker 1: about this on occasion, they felt like they wanted to
- 0:26Speaker 1: go knock them out early, but shot didn't fall. But
- 0:29Speaker 1: the one thing that's consistent about this team is the defense.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Once again, it was rock solid for the most part.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yeah, except that number twenty four likes to go left
- 0:38Speaker 2: and we let her go left, so that was annoying me.
- 0:41Speaker 2: That's the bane of my existence today is that she
- 0:43Speaker 2: kept because the one time we made her go right,
- 0:45Speaker 2: she hit the heel of the basket. But you can't
- 0:47Speaker 2: really falter our defense because you know, obviously we limited
- 0:50Speaker 2: and they had twenty points at halftime and took them
- 0:52Speaker 2: a long time in the third quarter to score, and
- 0:54Speaker 2: that's when we went on our run. I thought we
- 0:56Speaker 2: walked the ball up a little bit too much in
- 0:58Speaker 2: the first half. We need to push it like KK
- 1:01Speaker 2: did in the second half, even you know, you push
- 1:03Speaker 2: at the pace and even if we don't get a
- 1:04Speaker 2: lab but then bring it out. But you have to
- 1:06Speaker 2: get them on their heels a little.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Bit m literally and figuratively.
- 1:10Speaker 2: You can't see that our heels.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you can't say enough for what Blanca has provided
- 1:15Speaker 1: off the bench the first three games of this tournament.
- 1:17Speaker 1: She's been exceptional.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Really, we would not have had the lead that we
- 1:21Speaker 2: had without Blanca in the first half. And you know,
- 1:24Speaker 2: she just does a lot of things defensively with our
- 1:28Speaker 2: pressure and offensively she bails us out.
- 1:32Speaker 1: She did indeed eighteen more steels today, but a lot
- 1:34Speaker 1: of them were in the half court set today as
- 1:36Speaker 1: opposed to pressure, it seemed like. But eighteen steels are
- 1:39Speaker 1: still eighteen steels.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I thought we did a really good job. I thought
- 1:41Speaker 2: we made you know, their guards give the ball up
- 1:45Speaker 2: and then in some of the transition of who we
- 1:48Speaker 2: were guarding, we had a couple of mistakes there. But
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think the pressure can eventually might not get a
- 1:53Speaker 2: steal in the first half or the first you know,
- 1:56Speaker 2: first quarter, but it's certainly going to wear people out
- 1:59Speaker 2: over the course of the game.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Chris Arnot, Salo and Grant had monster games against Maryland.
- 2:04Speaker 1: They both scored twenty points in those games. Today they
- 2:06Speaker 1: combined for five. I would imagine keeping them from getting
- 2:10Speaker 1: the rim was a point of emphasis getting ready for this.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Game, trying to keep their two guards in front of us.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And you know, I thought we could have done a
- 2:18Speaker 2: better job in our ball screen defense, but I thought
- 2:21Speaker 2: we did a really good job of making whatever looks
- 2:23Speaker 2: they did get. I think Grant hit one late wide open.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But for the most part, I thought we did a
- 2:30Speaker 2: really good job limiting their good looks. And it's funny
- 2:32Speaker 2: because the kid NEvAr is that how you say, Yeah,
- 2:35Speaker 2: she had a good game against us When we played
- 2:37Speaker 2: them last year, she hadn't played. That was her first
- 2:39Speaker 2: game back and she had fifteen. So she's like the
- 2:43Speaker 2: husky slayer, I guess, so today she had twenty.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, But the bottom line is you won both games.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yes, true, true, But she you know, she's a good player,
- 2:50Speaker 2: and she plays hard. They play hard. They're very physical,
- 2:53Speaker 2: so we had to you know, combat that and be
- 2:56Speaker 2: able to handle it on our own. And really it's
- 2:58Speaker 2: a we have to give ourselves a lot of credit
- 3:02Speaker 2: because it's not easy missing and shots that you're used
- 3:06Speaker 2: to making. You know, certainly Asy and Ash have not
- 3:09Speaker 2: missed that many all year, so for us to continue
- 3:12Speaker 2: to stay with it, and Sarah obviously helped us, and
- 3:16Speaker 2: we got their big kid in Foul Trouble, which you
- 3:19Speaker 2: know was actually played to our advantage as well, so
- 3:23Speaker 2: and Janet came in and gave us a couple of
- 3:25Speaker 2: good minutes. So overall, it's just you go back to
- 3:28Speaker 2: the surviving advance. It's something we're gonna enjoy this tonight
- 3:32Speaker 2: and get ready for Notre Dame tomorrow.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yes, the old Friend of waits first time I think
- 3:36Speaker 1: you two have ever faced it played in the Elite eight.
- 3:39Speaker 1: It's usually a final four game to the death between
- 3:43Speaker 1: you got a Notre Dame. And I say that facetiously,
- 3:45Speaker 1: of course, but Hannah held dog goes on a bender
- 3:48Speaker 1: right now in a lot of ways.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's not just her. I think they're playing
- 3:51Speaker 2: much better as a team than they did when we
- 3:53Speaker 2: played them earlier in the year. So there are a
- 3:55Speaker 2: much different team, but so are we. You know, it's
- 3:57Speaker 2: not like we took vacation for you know. January five, Eebruary.
- 4:00Speaker 2: We've been working on our game too, but they're playing
- 4:03Speaker 2: really well together and she's just freaks havoc all over
- 4:08Speaker 2: the court. So we have to, you know, obviously, like
- 4:11Speaker 2: I said, get some rest tonight, get our game plan
- 4:13Speaker 2: and get the coaches get the game plan ready for tomorrow.
- 4:16Speaker 2: But it's certainly not We're not going in expecting oh yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 2: we beat them by thirty, that's you know, this is March,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and so we're you know, we have a lot of
- 4:23Speaker 2: respect for them. Like I said, they're playing really, really well.
- 4:26Speaker 2: They've beaten good teams to get here as a sixth seed,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and they played well down the stretch of the of
- 4:31Speaker 2: the conference play as well. So it'll be good. It'll
- 4:35Speaker 2: be a good old battle.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I was impressed by what Notre Dame
- 4:38Speaker 1: did defensively today, especially in the first half. I didn't
- 4:41Speaker 1: see a lot of Vanderbilt's come back to make it
- 4:44Speaker 1: close and get tied at fifty nine, but I was
- 4:45Speaker 1: impressed what they were doing defensively in the first half
- 4:47Speaker 1: against Blake's today.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah. I saw that she was only one for eleven
- 4:52Speaker 2: in the first half, but she had eight free throws,
- 4:54Speaker 2: so she does you know, get to the rim and
- 4:57Speaker 2: causes you to have to foul or they call terver
- 5:00Speaker 2: you want to look at it. So she does do
- 5:02Speaker 2: a really good job with that. I was surprised when
- 5:05Speaker 2: I was watching they didn't Notre Dame didn't play zone,
- 5:08Speaker 2: and I'd seen them play more zone down the stretch
- 5:11Speaker 2: in their conference play. So they're just feeling really good
- 5:14Speaker 2: about themselves. They're playing with a lot of confidence and
- 5:17Speaker 2: that starts with Hannah and and goes all the way through.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So and they also have another player back K. K.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Bransford was not available when we played them earlier in
- 5:25Speaker 2: the year, so that gives them another body. So, like
- 5:28Speaker 2: I said, we're gonna enjoy this, go home, watch the
- 5:31Speaker 2: men play, and then get ready for Notre Dame.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yes indeed, and we will see you Sunday.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Ok.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Thanks Chray, appreciate the time as always,
