- 21:23High School on Tuesday at six pm. Clay County defeated
- 21:29Jackson County ten to four earlier this season, but the
- 21:34Lady Generals elected not to pitch seventh grade standout Sofia
- 21:42Martinez in that meeting, knowing that two schools would likely
- 21:47meet again in district tournament play. Martinez has logged more
- 21:52than seventy innings this season with a two point nine

- 22:18Quote when you face a pitcher that can control the

- 23:17Tigers coach Jason Smith said his team continues to battle

- 23:31show up and compete, Smith said. Quote. At this point
- 23:36in the year, you have to stay positive, play clean baseball,

- 24:12championship games are scheduled for Tuesday evening at North Laurel
- 24:18High School. Next article by me Melissa Garrison Down Home
- 24:27with Melissa Rumor has it Disclaimer This article doesn't contain
- 24:34any rumors, but if we're honest, there's plenty we could
- 24:39talk about. When I decided to do this column several
- 24:43years ago, I wanted to add something positive to the newspaper.
- 24:48We already had obituaries, the jail report, front page headlines,
- 24:53lawsuits and taxes old. I wanted to create a different
- 24:57kind of article to read. So far, I've done my
- 25:00best to stay positive. I try to add humor along
- 25:03with seriousness. I try to include facts and a little
- 25:07bit of everything in between. But these days I have
- 25:11to admit I hear so much negative talk and that's
- 25:15tough not to mention it. So let's start with Darryl Hinkle.
- 25:20He's a pure outlaw, always has been. I can remember
- 25:25seeing his name spray painted on a bilding or house
- 25:29on Crane branch pretty much my entire life. Darryl is
- 25:34also related to me and many others. He's a pure site.
- 25:40But let's face it, he's not the worst thing our
- 25:43town is known for. He's funny and he checks off
- 25:46that box. He's smarter than we give him credit for,
- 25:49because he's still going strong and it's been over a
- 25:53year since Hinkle destruction, I mean construction came into the scene,
- 25:59and you know what, I'm proud of his ability to
- 26:02hold everyone's attention for that long. He really isn't even trying.
- 26:08We just can't stop watching him. I mean, yeah, there
- 26:12are tons of videos, but we don't have to watch
- 26:15them yet we do. I didn't say he was the
- 26:18best thing our town has seen. I'm just saying he
- 26:22isn't the worst. And honestly, I won't even talk about
- 26:26the worst things I've heard because it seems like those
- 26:28things get overlooked anyway. We'd rather hear negative talk about
- 26:34someone like Darryl Hinkel than about someone with status. Old
- 26:38Darryl is easy to bring down because we think, quote, ah,
- 26:42he's making himself look crazy, so we may as well
- 26:46get on unquote, but if talk starts about someone with influence,
- 26:51we don't want to elaborate because philp what if it's true?
- 26:56So you know what I think, as a roy D
- 26:59Mercer would say, our town has gotten quote tore up
- 27:04over recent talk that I'm going to bring awareness to
- 27:08because it's already out there for anyone to see and hear.
- 27:13I think working together is always better than working against
- 27:16each other, and if you can't do that, then there's
- 27:19your problem. I'm not against anyone. I'm for everyone. I
- 27:24want to see people succeed. I want our town to thrive.
- 27:27But if we aren't careful, Darryl Hinkel will become the
- 27:30best thing about our town. I'm just waiting for him
- 27:33to say just how big a boy are you? And
- 27:36honestly that'll probably and honestly that'll probably make me like
- 27:42him even more. Again, I'm not saying he's a role model.
- 27:47I'm just saying he has the ability to become famous
- 27:52for being more himself than most people ever claim to be.
- 27:58I know this isn't my typical artist and I don't
- 28:01usually write this, but I thought we could all use
- 28:05a laugh with all the talk of buzzards and everything else,
- 28:10things I don't even fully understand. I just don't want
- 28:14people say our town stinks, because it doesn't. I'm able
- 28:20to laugh about all of it and go about my
- 28:23day because it's none of my business anyway, and I
- 28:28like to say that, and I like it to stay
- 28:30that way. Have a good week, youngins. Quote talk low,
- 28:37talk slow, and don't say too much unquote by John Wayne.
