Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, it's your favorite time of week. You
- 0:04Speaker 1: download the crazy sheet and you get to spend some
- 0:06Speaker 1: quality time with Mark and Scotty talking about some college football.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm here in the podcasting studio. Scotty's at home. Brother,
- 0:13Speaker 1: we are headed to midway season. We got Red Rippler
- 0:16Speaker 1: shootout weekend coming. Conference plays rolling. You've got a little Bama,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Georgia rolling this weekend.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Damn, we're getting rolling in it. It's good, man.
- 0:25Speaker 1: College football is going crazy. How about last weekend? I
- 0:29Speaker 1: thought it was good.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I loved it. Let me start with this.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Friday night, kudos to Fox, kudos to Northwestern. What a
- 0:39Speaker 1: well-done game that was. And Northwestern beat the dog shit
- 0:43Speaker 1: out of those guys. They played so much better than
- 0:44Speaker 1: they did. But the stadium that they built for their
- 0:48Speaker 1: fans was fantastic. And anybody that is looking into building
- 0:54Speaker 1: a new stadium– needs to go spend some time with
- 0:57Speaker 1: those guys. Cause wow. Was that an impressive bill?
- 1:00Speaker 2: You know what struck me?
- 1:02Speaker 3: It reminded me a ton of Baylor stadium outside. Just
- 1:07Speaker 3: looking at the, you know, at the shape and the
- 1:09Speaker 3: way it looked. I agree with you. I think, look,
- 1:12Speaker 3: I think it's the future of college sports. Nobody's filling
- 1:14Speaker 3: up these gigantic stadiums. Texas A & M is one
- 1:18Speaker 3: of the only people that fills it up. You better
- 1:20Speaker 3: have a gigantic fan base like them and Ohio state
- 1:22Speaker 3: and Michigan and somebody could go build a gigantic stadium.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I think the future is premium seating, great seating. If
- 1:28Speaker 3: you want people to show up, you got to give
- 1:31Speaker 3: them a reason to come. That stadium does. It's state
- 1:34Speaker 3: of the art.
- 1:35Speaker 2: There were TVs everywhere.
- 1:36Speaker 3: If you looked in the concourses, remember they had RG3
- 1:40Speaker 3: was eating the hot dog and he had the snack beds.
- 1:43Speaker 3: You see how many TVs when he goes running back
- 1:46Speaker 3: to the thing there were? It just looks like a
- 1:48Speaker 3: fabulous environment. And kudos to them for building that.
- 1:52Speaker 2: A great spot.
- 1:52Speaker 3: But when a billionaire writes you a big old fat
- 1:54Speaker 3: check for a new stadium, I guess you can do that.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, no, great. Season's starting to shape up where you
- 2:01Speaker 1: got there. You got P.J. Fleck, Minnesota. Look at them
- 2:03Speaker 1: in the Big Ten starting to become relevant. Iowa could
- 2:07Speaker 1: not get it done but hung around. You've got a
- 2:10Speaker 1: lot of mediocrity in the Big Ten Conference. I think
- 2:12Speaker 1: the SEC is going to become a little more top-heavy
- 2:15Speaker 1: in weeks coming. Looks like we're headed to 24 teams.
- 2:18Speaker 1: In the college football playoff, I had to listen to
- 2:20Speaker 1: a terrible podcast with these guys talking about that, and
- 2:23Speaker 1: they're all against it.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Everybody's against it except the Big Ten. That's it. I
- 2:28Speaker 2: don't think the SEC presidents are going to vote for it.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I really don't.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Well, here's the one thing I think that's interesting. I
- 2:35Speaker 1: don't necessarily know that Sankey is pro for it.
- 2:39Speaker 3: He is not.
- 2:40Speaker 2: He is not. He is not.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And that's fine.
- 2:43Speaker 2: He is pro-16. I don't think he's pro-24.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I don't understand the argument. And here's my point. And
- 2:50Speaker 1: I'm going to use your wonderful school of Mississippi State.
- 2:54Speaker 3: The more you do, the more you buy in, the
- 2:56Speaker 3: more people have a chance to play for it. And
- 2:58Speaker 3: I totally get it. Now, I will tell you this.
- 3:02Speaker 3: You can get me on board on any format. We
- 3:05Speaker 3: can go back to four teams and you can get
- 3:07Speaker 3: me on board with it if we're doing it the
- 3:09Speaker 3: right way.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 2: But my point is it doesn't really matter. I like
- 3:14Speaker 2: 16 better.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Candidly, I like 12 where it's at. But I like
- 3:20Speaker 3: 16 because I think we do need it. There's too
- 3:22Speaker 3: much evidence these first three years that the off week
- 3:26Speaker 3: benefits the team that plays, not the team that doesn't play.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And we're getting too much evidence of that. So 16
- 3:35Speaker 3: is very easy to get me to go to. But here,
- 3:39Speaker 3: and this is going to completely make people's head explode.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I think every conference ought to go to four– I mean,
- 3:49Speaker 3: go to eight non-conference– I mean, eight conference games. Every
- 3:55Speaker 3: P4 ought to go to eight conference games, but they
- 3:57Speaker 3: have to play one team from every other conference, and
- 4:00Speaker 3: they get one freebie. If we're going to go to 24,
- 4:04Speaker 3: we've got to go to that format so that we
- 4:07Speaker 3: actually get an idea of who– because let's say Mississippi
- 4:11Speaker 3: State goes 8-4 and Minnesota goes 8-3. How do you
- 4:16Speaker 3: put Minnesota in over Mississippi State? Well, that's the next
- 4:20Speaker 3: argument you're going to have to hear next year. But
- 4:23Speaker 3: we've got to have data points to say that. Well,
- 4:27Speaker 3: you may get the exact same, the flip side of
- 4:29Speaker 3: that scenario next year on Starkville. When they go to Starkville,
- 4:32Speaker 3: they may win the game, and you've got the exact
- 4:35Speaker 3: same argument the other way around. State may have the
- 4:38Speaker 3: better record, but there's Minnesota that beat them. We've got
- 4:42Speaker 3: to get some head-to-head matchups. We see what are these
- 4:47Speaker 3: conferences really like? You got all these people bitching about
- 4:51Speaker 3: the SEC. Look, I know everybody's got SEC fatigue. We
- 4:54Speaker 3: rubbed it in everybody's face for 20 years, winning natties
- 4:57Speaker 3: and all of that. The SEC chants drive everybody crazy. Ultimately,
- 5:02Speaker 3: everybody bitching would join the SEC tomorrow if they could,
- 5:05Speaker 3: and then they'd start chanting SEC.
- 5:09Speaker 2: The flip side is.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I know everybody's tired of it, but They're 10-2 in
- 5:15Speaker 3: non-conference against Power 4.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the reason all.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Their teams are ranked. I mean, it's pretty clear Minnesota's
- 5:21Speaker 3: a pretty good football team. If you've watched that game,
- 5:25Speaker 3: they had no business. Their speed could not keep up
- 5:29Speaker 3: with State. That's not a bad athletic football team. State
- 5:33Speaker 3: made them look stupid. They made them look slow on
- 5:35Speaker 3: both sides of the ball. They looked unathletic. And I
- 5:39Speaker 3: think Minnesota's a good football team. When I watched that game,
- 5:43Speaker 3: I thought, wow, how did I miss on Minnesota that
- 5:45Speaker 3: bad in my preparation?
- 5:46Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 5:47Speaker 2: They're pretty good.
- 5:48Speaker 3: State's just a whole lot better than I thought they
- 5:49Speaker 3: were going to be. That happens, but we've got to
- 5:53Speaker 3: get these teams playing each other. You can't have Indiana's
- 5:56Speaker 3: schedule if we're going to go to 24 teams.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I'm sorry, you can't.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And what do they do? They drop UMass and pick
- 6:04Speaker 3: up I can't remember. It was like Central Michigan or somebody.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Somebody awful again. And you're like, really? This is who
- 6:13Speaker 3: a perennial national title contender is going to play non-conference
- 6:16Speaker 3: four times or three times? We do have to end that.
- 6:21Speaker 3: So I don't care what they do, but I think
- 6:24Speaker 3: we've got to get cross-conference games so that we get
- 6:30Speaker 3: an idea of who these teams are.
- 6:32Speaker 2: That really is the truth.
- 6:34Speaker 3: In basketball, you get the Big Ten and the ACC,
- 6:37Speaker 3: and they match up and they kind of level the
- 6:39Speaker 3: teams out where they finish.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I think that'd be awesome. Who doesn't want to see
- 6:43Speaker 2: more Texas and Ohio State?
- 6:45Speaker 3: Who doesn't want to see more Michigan and Oklahoma? Let's
- 6:50Speaker 3: level these teams up. Who doesn't want to see Mississippi
- 6:53Speaker 3: State and Minnesota play? Neither one of us are brands,
- 6:56Speaker 3: but that's a great game.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Fun to watch. Great matchup.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Stadium was electric. Everybody, every fan base wanted to be
- 7:02Speaker 3: a part of that. Let's get that going more. State
- 7:04Speaker 3: goes to Tech in two years. I mean, that's going
- 7:07Speaker 3: to be fun.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I mean.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And here's where this is going to have to change,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and it's going to change, is, number one, we need
- 7:16Speaker 1: to admit that we are not building young men for
- 7:19Speaker 1: the future football anymore. This is a made-for-entertainment minor league
- 7:25Speaker 1: sport to try to get to the NHL, NFL. We
- 7:29Speaker 1: just need to say it, period. These are professional athletes
- 7:33Speaker 1: that are being paid, in most cases, to try to
- 7:36Speaker 1: generate income to go into the next steps of their career.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Say it. This is a made-for-entertainment sport. That's all it is.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Number two, as a fan, we are so used to
- 7:47Speaker 1: focusing on it. You and I fell trapped to it.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Nobody can win from the 12th spot. You're not good enough.
- 7:54Speaker 1: For our whole lives, there's only been four or five
- 7:56Speaker 1: teams in a window every three or four years that
- 7:59Speaker 1: are good enough to be there because They had all
- 8:01Speaker 1: the talent.
- 8:02Speaker 2: But now the talent spread out.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's much more parity. And so mentally, we are still
- 8:07Speaker 1: programmed to think if you lose one or two games,
- 8:10Speaker 1: your season's over and you're going to the Citrus Bowl.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And that's not true anymore. But we've watched 100 years
- 8:18Speaker 1: of this and been.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Spoon-fed to it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So all I'm saying is a fan. I'm 51 years old.
- 8:25Speaker 1: You've got to kind of recompute and be like, look,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I am now watching a made-for TV sport that is
- 8:32Speaker 1: there to entertain me, the more we get of it,
- 8:35Speaker 1: of competitive nature, the better. That's why the NCAA tournament
- 8:39Speaker 1: is so successful, because people love seeing those underdogs. Now, granted,
- 8:44Speaker 1: we're still in the infancy of this thing. We're, what,
- 8:46Speaker 1: one or two years in, and it's easy to tear
- 8:49Speaker 1: it apart. But I am, and you and I have
- 8:51Speaker 1: said this, I am for more competitive games that mean something.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And that means we have a 2014 tournament. I'm fine
- 8:58Speaker 1: with that. Is it going to take some while to
- 9:00Speaker 1: iron it out the kinks? Probably so. But we can't
- 9:03Speaker 1: go into this thinking that this was 1987 and we're
- 9:07Speaker 1: waiting on an undefeated Miami team to match up against
- 9:11Speaker 1: an undefeated Nebraska team. And back then, you also have
- 9:14Speaker 1: to remember, most people don't even know because they're not
- 9:16Speaker 1: old enough. Back then, the system was so fucked up.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You might have the two best teams in the country
- 9:20Speaker 1: and they've never played.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Ever. Ever. Look, Auburn and USC.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:25Speaker 3: In 2003, those were the two best teams in the country.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I think they both went undefeated, if I remember right,
- 9:31Speaker 3: and they've never played each other.
- 9:33Speaker 2: We had the BCS. You're like, how in the world
- 9:36Speaker 2: does this happen? So, anyway, I agree with you 100%.
- 9:40Speaker 3: But here's the other thing that I think we have
- 9:43Speaker 3: to– that's been the major adjustment for me. It's one
- 9:47Speaker 3: of the reasons Mississippi State fans love Kamario Taylor so much,
- 9:50Speaker 3: but this is lost. The name on the back of
- 9:52Speaker 3: the jersey is all those kids care about. It's not
- 9:56Speaker 3: the name on the front of the jersey. And it
- 9:58Speaker 3: is a mindset that the college football fan has got
- 10:02Speaker 3: to have. It's much like when NFL started free agency
- 10:05Speaker 3: guys used to play their whole career somewhere. The 70
- 10:08Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Steelers are never going to happen again because those
- 10:13Speaker 3: guys are going to come up as free agents and
- 10:14Speaker 3: somebody's going to pay them gigantic money to leave. You know,
- 10:18Speaker 3: There's no way Glenn Swan and John Stallworth play their
- 10:20Speaker 3: whole career together today. There's zero chance of that. And
- 10:26Speaker 3: I think that the college fan is having to adjust
- 10:31Speaker 3: to that.
- 10:32Speaker 2: It's different.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I think you're going to see some of the passion
- 10:37Speaker 3: for college football fade from a hatred and you know,
- 10:44Speaker 3: all of that because the kids are crossing some, I mean,
- 10:47Speaker 3: Ole Miss has got a couple of kids that went state.
- 10:49Speaker 2: We got a couple of kids that went to Ole Miss.
- 10:51Speaker 3: There was one dude in my lifetime that that happened
- 10:55Speaker 3: to before this environment. And that's because his dad used
- 10:58Speaker 3: to be the, he was the offense coordinator at Ole
- 10:59Speaker 3: Miss left, became a head coach at Mississippi state. This
- 11:02Speaker 3: was after a stop at Alabama. His dad got fired.
- 11:05Speaker 3: It was Bob Tyler's son. and he went back and
- 11:08Speaker 3: finished his career because he was in college at Mississippi State,
- 11:11Speaker 3: and he went to Oxford with his dad to finish
- 11:13Speaker 3: playing his playing career.
- 11:15Speaker 2: That's the only guy that ever switched schools.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I mean, like, to the point the paper wrote stories
- 11:20Speaker 3: about him for 10 years about how he's the only guy.
- 11:23Speaker 3: You know, now hell is happening every season.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 3: You know, so people have got to understand the bear
- 11:29Speaker 3: trawl is not going to be there like it used
- 11:31Speaker 3: to be. You know, it's really not because there's not
- 11:34Speaker 3: that battle line, and these kids are coming. State and
- 11:38Speaker 3: Ole Miss were always predominantly Mississippi kids, and that's the
- 11:41Speaker 3: reason there were fights is because you had high school
- 11:43Speaker 3: teammates who may or may not have liked each other
- 11:46Speaker 3: when they were growing up, and they're now playing against
- 11:49Speaker 3: each other, and they wanted to get after it. You
- 11:51Speaker 3: had kids from rival schools on different teams, and it
- 11:55Speaker 3: was hatred, and Bama was the same way. Now there's
- 11:58Speaker 3: guys from all over, and so I think college football
- 12:01Speaker 3: is going through not only a paradigm shift in playoff
- 12:04Speaker 3: and paying players but your passion is not as intense.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I'm not remotely as concerned about Mississippi State. We would
- 12:11Speaker 3: lose some Saturdays and it would ruin my weekend.
- 12:15Speaker 2: That never.
- 12:16Speaker 3: We went 2-10 two years ago and I was like, nah.
- 12:20Speaker 3: That's just college football now. So I think that's the
- 12:22Speaker 3: other thing changing. But it doesn't mean that you can't
- 12:25Speaker 3: really enjoy watching the games. It does not mean that
- 12:28Speaker 3: it's awesome that talent is not more spread out than
- 12:31Speaker 3: it used to be. Why everybody wants a Camario Taylor
- 12:34Speaker 3: hitting the transfer portal, I will never understand. Having guys
- 12:38Speaker 3: like that is great for college football at schools. Like
- 12:43Speaker 3: Derek Mensah playing at Duke or Tulane was much better
- 12:48Speaker 3: than him playing at Miami. To me, you know, now,
- 12:53Speaker 3: is he still great? Is he playing with super talent?
- 12:55Speaker 3: Do I get what he wanted to go? One hundred percent.
- 12:58Speaker 3: But I think it's I just think it's different. And
- 13:01Speaker 3: but acting like these kids are still students is stupidity.
- 13:04Speaker 3: A lot of these kids, if they play quarterback and
- 13:07Speaker 3: they play three or four years of college football and
- 13:11Speaker 3: they're a marquee recruit coming out of high school. and
- 13:15Speaker 3: then start for, let's say, let's say they sit the
- 13:17Speaker 3: freshman year and then they start for three or four
- 13:19Speaker 3: years because you got five to play five. They start
- 13:22Speaker 3: for four years. These kids are going to make 20
- 13:24Speaker 3: or $ 25 million.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I agree.
- 13:27Speaker 2: You know, at a marquee school, man, let's quit acting
- 13:30Speaker 2: like these kids are students. That's enough money.
- 13:32Speaker 3: They can live the rest of their lives. Yeah, if
- 13:34Speaker 3: they want to, you know, and so let's, let's get
- 13:37Speaker 3: serious about it. They don't spend that money and act
- 13:39Speaker 3: like morons, which let's face it, that ain't going to
- 13:42Speaker 3: be very many of them, but, If they do, they
- 13:45Speaker 3: don't have to work the rest of their life. They
- 13:46Speaker 3: can go coach high school football the rest of their
- 13:48Speaker 3: lives and hang out. So, you know, it's a different mindset.
- 13:52Speaker 3: We need to stop acting like these kids are students.
- 13:54Speaker 3: They'll make it online where they don't have to go
- 13:56Speaker 3: to class unless they want to.
- 13:58Speaker 2: No, I agree.
- 13:58Speaker 1: So, anyway, season's rolling. We got– that's the new announcement.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I think that's the mindset change that we're going to
- 14:03Speaker 1: have to just go through as fans. It's different. It's fine.
- 14:06Speaker 1: I like it. I like to gamble. I mean, with you,
- 14:09Speaker 1: I hated teams for a long time. I don't care.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I wake up on Sunday. I look to see us
- 14:15Speaker 1: play the NFL. I see the numbers come up, college
- 14:17Speaker 1: football Monday morning, and I'm excited for next week. And
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's a made-for-entertainment sport. And every day of the week
- 14:24Speaker 1: feels different during football season as you get the buildup
- 14:27Speaker 1: to it. And, yeah, you get invested in the stories
- 14:30Speaker 1: and the kids and everything else. That's great. And I
- 14:32Speaker 1: love that passion. It's always going to be there. More
- 14:35Speaker 1: competitive college football is all I'm asking for.
- 14:37Speaker 2: And you know what?
- 14:38Speaker 1: We're going to get it. I mean, look at what
- 14:40Speaker 1: you've got now. You've got JMU 2. You've got JMU
- 14:43Speaker 1: 1 is in Indiana. JMU 2 is at UCLA. And
- 14:46Speaker 1: then the two teams that we watched play in the
- 14:48Speaker 1: FCS Natty a couple of years ago are now North
- 14:52Speaker 1: Dakota State and JMU 1.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Both doing very well.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And so I think there still is some leadership within
- 14:59Speaker 1: the university and within the programs that is going to
- 15:03Speaker 1: be required. And you're going to figure out who figures
- 15:05Speaker 1: it out quick because– Everybody's got to have a system
- 15:08Speaker 1: because your roster's changing all the time. You're putting it
- 15:10Speaker 1: all together.
- 15:11Speaker 2: And some of these guys don't figure it out.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And you don't know that you don't have a roster
- 15:15Speaker 1: that's put together until you get to week four. And
- 15:17Speaker 1: there's a couple of those teams this year. I think
- 15:19Speaker 1: Michigan is in that space. I don't think they thought
- 15:22Speaker 1: they had a quarterback that could run the offense. They don't.
- 15:25Speaker 2: They don't.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Not even close to that. I think Indiana is still
- 15:29Speaker 1: finding itself from who they were. I think Texas Tech
- 15:34Speaker 1: is not sure exactly the direction where they need to
- 15:38Speaker 1: go yet.
- 15:38Speaker 2: So who takes the A & M into that?
- 15:40Speaker 1: I think Texas A & M has kind of been
- 15:43Speaker 1: like a confused extra kid. You know, like if you
- 15:47Speaker 1: like your dad had a baby and you didn't know
- 15:49Speaker 1: your dad had a baby and he just tries to
- 15:51Speaker 1: be part of the family. That's kind of what the
- 15:53Speaker 1: Aggie football team has been. Rest in peace, Dennis Franchione.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Saw he passed away.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Really? I did not see that.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah, saw that 75 years old. Sad to see anybody
- 16:03Speaker 1: lose their life.
- 16:03Speaker 3: I've got a great story about Dennis Franchione. You know
- 16:05Speaker 3: the story, but our listeners don't. This was years ago,
- 16:08Speaker 3: flying to Houston. He's at Texas A & M. We're
- 16:11Speaker 3: flying to Vegas. It's obviously off-season. And I am in
- 16:16Speaker 3: seat 2B, and he's on the other aisle seat. And
- 16:23Speaker 3: his wife is by the window. And he looks at
- 16:26Speaker 3: me and I'm reading the Houston Chronicle sports page. And
- 16:30Speaker 3: he looks at me, he goes, Hey, he goes, do
- 16:32Speaker 3: you mind if I read that if you're finished with it?
- 16:34Speaker 3: And I said, I handed it to him and said, coach,
- 16:36Speaker 3: I didn't think people read this. He goes, we're not
- 16:38Speaker 3: supposed to, I don't know why I'm going to torture myself.
- 16:41Speaker 3: He just laughed, you know, so super, he was a
- 16:44Speaker 3: super nice guy, but anyway, that was funny.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Oh, but anyway, so yeah. We're kind of getting to
- 16:50Speaker 1: the point of shaping up. You've got a couple of
- 16:51Speaker 1: interesting games this week. You've got USC headed back across
- 16:55Speaker 1: the country to play Penn State. Penn State's kind of
- 16:58Speaker 1: scratching their head going, oh, no, did we make a
- 17:00Speaker 1: mistake and become Iowa State? We don't know. You've got
- 17:04Speaker 1: Va Tech that's got to travel all the way back
- 17:06Speaker 1: across the country to play Cal after getting their nuts
- 17:08Speaker 1: ripped off last week in that game by that missed
- 17:11Speaker 1: extra point. So you've got a lot of interesting storylines.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And on top of that, you've got some huge games
- 17:16Speaker 1: this week. You've got Alabama-Georgia. Great matchup that you've got there.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And so a couple of those that are out, I'm
- 17:23Speaker 1: excited about it. I'm ready to dive in, baby. That's
- 17:26Speaker 1: all in the past.
- 17:27Speaker 2: We'll get to it later. Let's look at the board.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Thursday night, Scotty. We've got a few games out here already.
- 17:32Speaker 2: If you get a chance to listen to these, great.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Maybe you can get you some plays in. Let me
- 17:36Speaker 2: pull some lines up here.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Sorry, wasn't ready. Wasn't ready. Thursday night.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Let's see here.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Sorry, I was looking at some hockey odds, Scott.
- 17:46Speaker 2: That's all right.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I know you love your hockey gambling. Well, hell, we
- 17:49Speaker 3: can about do a hockey podcast.
- 17:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So looking at what we've got here. First couple of
- 17:57Speaker 1: games we got Sam Houston State, Liberty, Lions 13 and
- 18:01Speaker 1: a half, over-unders at 52 and a half, Mizzou State,
- 18:04Speaker 1: Western Kentucky. That's some bad football right there. If you're
- 18:07Speaker 1: going to suffer through that, you better have a kid
- 18:09Speaker 1: on the team. And then South Alabama and Arkansas State.
- 18:13Speaker 1: The only one that I have an interest in, and
- 18:15Speaker 1: I've got a pizza bet on Sam Houston State plus
- 18:18Speaker 1: 14 against Liberty. So Liberty team's actually looking pretty good.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I'm kind of betting on the fact that Sam is
- 18:26Speaker 1: better than what they have shown on paper. And like
- 18:30Speaker 1: that game against Texas Tech, they were in that game.
- 18:33Speaker 1: They had two back-to-back pick sixes. They had two really
- 18:35Speaker 1: bad special teams played. And so– Liberty's got short week
- 18:39Speaker 1: of rest. Sam was off last Saturday, traveling over there.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I think you're going to get Sam's full effort. This
- 18:46Speaker 1: is going to be really the first game that they're
- 18:47Speaker 1: going to match up against a team of their ilk
- 18:50Speaker 1: because they've been playing up above them. This is a
- 18:52Speaker 1: much better team. Give me the Bearcats. plus 14 for
- 18:57Speaker 1: some pizza money on Thursday night. That's all I got.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I would go.
- 19:00Speaker 3: It's down to 13 and a half. I'd go opposite
- 19:02Speaker 3: of you on Liberty, but the game that I want
- 19:04Speaker 3: to watch the most, give me the fun belt. You know,
- 19:07Speaker 3: I love some fun belt. South Alabama, Arkansas state is
- 19:10Speaker 3: the game that I, that I want to watch the
- 19:12Speaker 3: most tonight. I think this game has going to have
- 19:15Speaker 3: some entry Arkansas state. He's done a pretty good job.
- 19:20Speaker 3: up there with that program. Took it over, and I
- 19:23Speaker 3: think he was in danger of getting fired, and now
- 19:25Speaker 3: they're kind of turning back to what Arkansas State's really
- 19:29Speaker 3: been about for the last, oh, heck, I'd probably say
- 19:32Speaker 3: 15 years. They're back pretty good, and Major Applewhite's done
- 19:35Speaker 3: a pretty good job. They've been really competitive down at
- 19:37Speaker 3: South Alabama. I think this is two of the better
- 19:39Speaker 3: teams in the fun belt. Going to be fun to watch.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Fun game to watch tonight.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Only other game we got Thursday overlooked at UTSA, South Florida.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I would lay it with UTSA. here at minus 6.5
- 19:51Speaker 1: against this South Florida team. I don't think the South
- 19:53Speaker 1: Florida team is a legit 4-1. They really struggled in that.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Bowling Green game.
- 20:00Speaker 1: UTSA and Meep Meep, I think they get this thing
- 20:02Speaker 1: rolling in the dome.
- 20:03Speaker 2: They can get it going.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I haven't played it yet, but I would lean towards
- 20:05Speaker 1: minus 6.5 if I was going to get involved. Friday,
- 20:11Speaker 1: You got some big games Friday. Florida State plus three
- 20:15Speaker 1: and a half going to Louisville. Florida State all of
- 20:18Speaker 1: a sudden went from being a team people thought may
- 20:20Speaker 1: not win a game.
- 20:22Speaker 2: To three and two. Two and two against the number
- 20:25Speaker 2: and one and four to the under. And their only
- 20:27Speaker 2: two losses are right.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Louisville now two and three, three and two, and four
- 20:34Speaker 1: and one to the over. Maybe that Ole Miss win's
- 20:36Speaker 1: not quite as much as we thought it was. Lincoln-Keene holds,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I've heard, banged up in this one. Haven't done a
- 20:41Speaker 1: lot of digging. I lean Florida State here getting the
- 20:44Speaker 1: points on the road.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I agree with you.
- 20:45Speaker 3: I lean Florida State here, too. That's three and a half. Honestly,
- 20:50Speaker 3: the hook may be what the difference is. Florida State's
- 20:52Speaker 3: a lot of dog. That's my honest opinion.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Next one I want to go to, Iowa traveling to Washington.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Iowa's getting three, three and a half. Team comes in
- 21:01Speaker 1: four and one, three and two against the number. Obviously,
- 21:03Speaker 1: they're one and four to the under. Because that's Iowa, baby.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Here's my take on this. Iowa's really banged up. Looks
- 21:11Speaker 1: like we're going with a backup quarterback in this one.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Not that that really matters, but they've actually thrown the
- 21:16Speaker 1: ball more this year than they have in years past.
- 21:18Speaker 1: They're averaging 29 points a game. Can you believe that?
- 21:23Speaker 1: They're almost scoring 30. You realize if they were averaging
- 21:26Speaker 1: 29 points a couple of years ago, Forrest's son would
- 21:28Speaker 1: still be the offense.
- 21:29Speaker 2: No doubt. He had to get to 26.5 or something.
- 21:31Speaker 2: What's his number?
- 21:34Speaker 1: That he didn't get to, and then he fired him.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Here's where I'm at with this.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Bad spot for Iowa, but if there's any team that
- 21:42Speaker 1: can travel on a short week, I believe it's the
- 21:44Speaker 1: Iowa Hawkeyes. I thought they did a phenomenal job with
- 21:47Speaker 1: game day last week, watching those guys wave. I don't
- 21:50Speaker 1: know if you've had a chance to go out and
- 21:51Speaker 1: look at Stanford Steve talking about being there. It's a
- 21:55Speaker 1: really neat environment. It's one of the bucket list places
- 21:58Speaker 1: that I'd want to go. I'm probably one of the
- 21:59Speaker 1: few that wants to go drink Bush Light in Iowa
- 22:02Speaker 1: City and enjoy that, but I am I would lean
- 22:04Speaker 1: Iowa here plus three. I haven't gotten involved yet. And
- 22:07Speaker 1: here's my main thing. This Washington team to me, we've
- 22:10Speaker 1: got a couple of listeners that are big UW guys,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and I've heard a little bit from them. I haven't
- 22:14Speaker 1: been super active on Twitter. But this UW team, man,
- 22:17Speaker 1: I think this locker room's got some problems. And I
- 22:21Speaker 1: wanted to like this team. I love UW. I love
- 22:24Speaker 1: the stadium. I love everything about the place. But if
- 22:26Speaker 1: I'm leaning anywhere, give me three points with the Iowa
- 22:29Speaker 1: Hawkeyes because I think this game could just get real
- 22:31Speaker 1: muddied up. And I would lean in with the Iowa
- 22:34Speaker 1: Hawkeyes if I'm going to play. Staying on Friday, next
- 22:38Speaker 1: one you've got BYU minus 10, Iowa State. This is
- 22:42Speaker 1: an interesting line. BYU's– this line's moved, and BYU's got
- 22:46Speaker 1: some major injuries, and it's still moving, which will tell
- 22:50Speaker 1: you you've got a little bit of a reverse line
- 22:52Speaker 1: move here because all the news is telling you that
- 22:54Speaker 1: Iowa State's the team. You start to see the line
- 22:57Speaker 1: come down a little bit. It looks like it's settled
- 22:58Speaker 1: in at 10. If you can get anything under 10,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I would lay it with BYU. I think this team's
- 23:03Speaker 1: far more physical, and I think this team actually is
- 23:06Speaker 1: going to work Iowa State. I think Iowa State, most
- 23:10Speaker 1: people only saw them play the Seahawks game, and they
- 23:12Speaker 1: gave it everything they had. This team's just not as good.
- 23:16Speaker 1: It's just not that good. Give me BYU minus the 10.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I'll book that as a play. Moving on to Saturday, Scotty.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Indiana traveling to Nebraska. Both of these teams are 5-0.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Is Nebraska Fugazi, or do you think this team's any good?
- 23:32Speaker 2: Oh, I think they're 100% Fugazi, but you know what?
- 23:34Speaker 3: I think Indiana is a little bit too. I don't
- 23:37Speaker 3: think they're rolling like they were, but I think this
- 23:40Speaker 3: game's going to be low scoring. That's the reason, especially
- 23:44Speaker 3: with the hook, it feels like you ought to take Nebraska,
- 23:48Speaker 3: but I wonder if the under is not to play here.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I'm on the under. I took the under 49. I've
- 23:52Speaker 1: got a 52 and a 49 and a half ticket.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Booked it early. I don't give out lines that don't exist.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I'm not one of those ass clowns that does that.
- 24:00Speaker 2: But I agree with you.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I think this game's going to be physical. Now, Hoover
- 24:02Speaker 1: hasn't thrown an interception yet this season. Yep.
- 24:05Speaker 2: That's because they're so well coached. I agree.
- 24:08Speaker 3: They are so well coached, and they hammer the detail.
- 24:12Speaker 3: But I just– this team's not rolling. Look, everybody talks
- 24:16Speaker 3: about the big– I forget his name. It's the wide
- 24:20Speaker 3: receiver for.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Indiana. And they're like, oh, he's going to be a first-rounder.
- 24:26Speaker 2: The dude runs like a 4'7.
- 24:28Speaker 3: No, he's not.
- 24:29Speaker 2: He's a talented guy, but he's quasi-tight end.
- 24:32Speaker 3: You know, he just is a great matchup where they're
- 24:35Speaker 3: playing him and he gets open when he gets on
- 24:37Speaker 3: those smaller safeties and who are basically running the same
- 24:41Speaker 3: thing he's running. They do a great job of personnel match.
- 24:45Speaker 3: But I just think going on the road, this is
- 24:47Speaker 3: a tough environment for Indiana. I think it's going to
- 24:50Speaker 3: be low scoring.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Oh, man, let's keep that rolling there.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I like it.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Let's go under in that one. We'll book that for play.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Moving on down the board, we've got South Carolina is
- 25:00Speaker 1: traveling down to Florida. Florida had a terrible, terrible experience
- 25:05Speaker 1: last week, which you kind of could see coming after
- 25:07Speaker 1: what they've been going through. I think Florida becomes– I
- 25:11Speaker 1: think they bounce back in the South Carolina team. This
- 25:14Speaker 1: South Carolina team is not very good. I think this–
- 25:17Speaker 1: Beamer may get fired after this one because I think
- 25:19Speaker 1: they may get embarrassed here. If they can afford to
- 25:21Speaker 1: fire him, they may run him. You still don't have
- 25:24Speaker 1: Stewart back their best defensive end in this fight.
- 25:27Speaker 2: You with me on here?
- 25:27Speaker 1: Are you going to lay a number with Florida?
- 25:29Speaker 3: Oh, I love this line. Yeah, I hate this much
- 25:32Speaker 3: chalk in October. But, man, explain to me what South
- 25:39Speaker 3: Carolina's got going for. You got a Florida team that
- 25:43Speaker 3: just got embarrassed. Because make no mistake, Missouri embarrassed them.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I mean, everybody talked about how they were going to
- 25:51Speaker 3: run over Missouri and Fluff Opwell had run for 100
- 25:54Speaker 3: yards and they weren't going to be able to stop ball.
- 25:57Speaker 3: And they pounded his ass, and then they stuck it
- 25:59Speaker 3: right up Florida's rear end running the ball. I mean,
- 26:02Speaker 3: they dominated that game physically. And you're going to get
- 26:07Speaker 3: a Florida team that comes out fired up in the
- 26:11Speaker 3: swamp and answers the bell.
- 26:13Speaker 2: That's the other thing we were talking about, talent, Mark.
- 26:15Speaker 3: You get some wild swings because these teams don't have
- 26:18Speaker 3: the depth they did. And these kids get more tired.
- 26:23Speaker 3: You don't have people rolling in and out like you
- 26:26Speaker 3: used to. And I think you're going to see Florida
- 26:30Speaker 3: is home, got a chance to really get it together.
- 26:33Speaker 3: I'm with you. Beamer may not make it through the weekend.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I ain't Florida Hammers, these guys.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Speaking of not make it through the weekend, did you
- 26:43Speaker 1: see what happened in the Colorado State game?
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:48Speaker 2: He fired his coordinator. Or he quit. Well, he's certainly
- 26:53Speaker 2: trying to make it like he quit.
- 26:56Speaker 3: But you got to know how the conversation went. My
- 27:00Speaker 3: guess is you're fired. And the coach took it as
- 27:04Speaker 3: you're fired. And now he's like, well, I only met
- 27:07Speaker 3: his defense coordinator. You can still coach your position. And
- 27:10Speaker 3: he's like, no, you fired me.
- 27:12Speaker 2: At halftime. At halftime.
- 27:15Speaker 3: I mean, you know that that's how this deal went down.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I mean, you know it is. And now Moore is
- 27:19Speaker 3: trying to like, oh, he quit on me. That dude
- 27:21Speaker 3: did not quit. We know he didn't quit. He got fired.
- 27:25Speaker 3: And now Moore's trying to make it act like, well,
- 27:26Speaker 3: he left on his own. He decided he wasn't coming back.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Oh, my God. What a shit show.
- 27:32Speaker 2: That's one of those dudes you got to read through
- 27:34Speaker 2: the tea leaves right there.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Because, you know.
- 27:36Speaker 2: His coordinator at UConn is State's linebacker coach. Yeah. I
- 27:42Speaker 2: didn't know that. Didn't know that.
- 27:43Speaker 1: All right.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Next game, kind of like some action, too.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Tulane getting three at Army. Over here is 48-and-a-half. You
- 27:50Speaker 1: got any interest in the Service Academy games?
- 27:53Speaker 3: You know, my gut tells me with Tulane getting points
- 27:56Speaker 3: to go with it, but I think I'm going to
- 27:59Speaker 3: pass on this game just because there's some games I
- 28:02Speaker 3: like better.
- 28:04Speaker 1: North Carolina getting three-and-a-half, traveling to Pittsburgh.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Nard Dog 5-0, baby.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Every time I don't take Nard Dog, he shows up. Although,
- 28:13Speaker 3: I want to tell you, Mark, I've watched that video.
- 28:15Speaker 3: twice now, I think that kid made the kick for
- 28:18Speaker 3: Virginia Tech. I think he got screwed.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I think he did, too.
- 28:21Speaker 3: I think he made it. And you see him after
- 28:24Speaker 3: the game, as the kick misses, he's live. I'm like, ah,
- 28:27Speaker 3: it was close. And then you go back and you
- 28:30Speaker 3: watch it, and there's that. Have you seen the fan
- 28:32Speaker 3: angle of the kid in the stands? Oh, that's when
- 28:36Speaker 3: you're like, holy smokes, he made this. Because the kid's
- 28:40Speaker 3: kind of behind the stands. And it's like, that was good.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I mean, just crazy. I mean, just it was wild. But,
- 28:48Speaker 3: you know, half the time with AI, you can't tell
- 28:52Speaker 3: if the damn thing's real or not. You got to
- 28:53Speaker 3: be like, yeah, question mark. But look, man, there's a
- 28:58Speaker 3: lot of people gambling. You never know who is and
- 29:01Speaker 3: who isn't.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Oh, goodness gracious. All right. Next one we got, I
- 29:05Speaker 1: want to roll into. You got North Carolina Pitt. I'm
- 29:07Speaker 1: not even involved in that. USC Penn State.
- 29:10Speaker 2: If I'm getting involved in North Carolina Pitt, it's going
- 29:13Speaker 2: to be Pitt.
- 29:15Speaker 3: I think North Carolina is starting to turn into the
- 29:17Speaker 3: team that I was afraid they were going to be.
- 29:21Speaker 1: They make some mistakes, that's for sure. They hunted around
- 29:24Speaker 1: with Notre Dame last week, got the cover on the
- 29:25Speaker 1: back door on that one.
- 29:27Speaker 2: USC, Penn State.
- 29:27Speaker 1: USC is 5-1. They're 1-5 against the number.
- 29:30Speaker 2: 4-2 coming in here to the over.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Penn State, 3-2. 2-3 against the number.
- 29:32Speaker 2: 2-3 the under.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Penn State laying 1.5 points. Here's the sediment here, and
- 29:43Speaker 1: this is it. This is a wide-out game. Penn State's
- 29:48Speaker 1: kind of a beaten animal in a corner situation at
- 29:52Speaker 1: this point, too, because.
- 29:54Speaker 2: I think they thought they were better than they were.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Rocco Beck, you're starting to hear some murmurings that where
- 29:59Speaker 1: his relationship is, where it's going to go. I personally
- 30:03Speaker 1: think the only reason that USC is an underdog in
- 30:07Speaker 1: this game is because of Lincoln Riley's East Coast travel.
- 30:13Speaker 1: It just hasn't gone well because you can't tell me
- 30:16Speaker 1: that these two teams are equal on a neutral. If
- 30:19Speaker 1: we met in Council Bluff, Iowa and played, I would
- 30:23Speaker 1: take USC in this.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Game every day of the week. They might be seven-point favorites.
- 30:28Speaker 3: For sure, three and a half.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I am going to tell you right now, I am
- 30:32Speaker 1: going to give me USC on the money line. Let's
- 30:36Speaker 1: get this going. Almost a little Bill Cosby there on
- 30:38Speaker 1: the money line.
- 30:39Speaker 3: He's going to wet the bed.
- 30:42Speaker 2: There's no way I'm betting on Lincoln Riley. Give me
- 30:45Speaker 2: Lincoln Riley, baby. We're going to do it. We're going
- 30:47Speaker 2: to do it. He's going to wet the bed. Don't
- 30:48Speaker 2: do it. Don't do it. Don't do it.
- 30:52Speaker 3: You've seen the line in Saving Private Ryan where he's
- 30:55Speaker 3: talking about his brothers.
- 30:56Speaker 2: He's like, don't do it, Danny. You're a young man.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Don't do it, Mark. You're a gambling man. Don't do it.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Give me Lincoln Riley plus one and a half.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Take me to the money line. Next one I want
- 31:07Speaker 1: to go to, boys from Red Stick traveling to Kentucky.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Laying eight and a half here on the road. Both
- 31:12Speaker 1: these teams four and one. I kind of think you're
- 31:16Speaker 1: getting peak Kentucky right here. And a sense that I
- 31:20Speaker 1: don't know how good I believe Kentucky is. Kind of
- 31:25Speaker 1: the same way with LSU. So the only thing that
- 31:28Speaker 1: interests me in this line is the under. I took
- 31:31Speaker 1: it at 53. It's down to 51 and a half.
- 31:34Speaker 1: If you could get a 52, I would feel comfortable
- 31:37Speaker 1: with that. I think LSU's best unit is their defense.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And I can see them leaning towards that. I like Kentucky.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Cute story. I just don't really know how good they're
- 31:48Speaker 1: going to be. Their schedule's about to get really fucking hard.
- 31:51Speaker 1: And so I just don't know how much mustard these
- 31:53Speaker 1: guys are going to have left. But haven't got to
- 31:55Speaker 1: pull– I mean, get that one play on the total,
- 31:57Speaker 1: but that's it.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Well, I think if you're going to play this, this
- 32:00Speaker 3: is probably the right total because, look, they're still banged
- 32:03Speaker 3: up on offense. Where this could go wonky on you
- 32:07Speaker 3: is does that defense create some turnovers, get a pick six?
- 32:10Speaker 3: But I think Stein has done a really, really good
- 32:13Speaker 3: job with this Kentucky team. He is one of the
- 32:17Speaker 3: few exceptions of a coordinator coming in that has improved
- 32:22Speaker 3: the team. I really, really like the job he's doing. And, boy,
- 32:27Speaker 3: you could certainly start to ask questions is how influential
- 32:31Speaker 3: were they in Eugene? Because they certainly aren't the same
- 32:35Speaker 3: out there without these two coordinators. And that team is,
- 32:40Speaker 3: I think, more talented than last year at Oregon. So
- 32:43Speaker 3: you've got to question how impactful they were on the talent.
- 32:47Speaker 3: I think Stein does a great job, but I think
- 32:49Speaker 3: the under.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Is the play.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Again, Notre Darius, he makes that engine go on offense,
- 32:58Speaker 3: and I think you're going to get a low-scoring game.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I think Lane Kiffin just wants to check boxes and
- 33:03Speaker 3: get wins right now. I think he knows, let's just win.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Let's figure out a way to win this ballgame.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I kind of agree with you there. I'm leaning
- 33:13Speaker 1: in the under. Next game I'm kind of interested in,
- 33:16Speaker 1: Rich Rod at home getting three, three and a half,
- 33:19Speaker 1: hosting Arizona. Arizona's going to be without basically their entire
- 33:23Speaker 1: receiving core. They lost their three starters last week and
- 33:26Speaker 1: the tight end during that game. Still pantsed Cincinnati. West
- 33:30Speaker 1: Virginia's lost two in a row. Neither one of these
- 33:33Speaker 1: teams really has a great Quality win. Weird spot to
- 33:37Speaker 1: play early game. This is a noon Eastern game, and
- 33:41Speaker 1: these guys are coming from Tucson to get there. Two
- 33:45Speaker 1: of the weirdest spots to get to in the country.
- 33:47Speaker 1: If you've never been to Tucson or if you've never
- 33:49Speaker 1: been to Morgantown, trust me, it is not a direct flight.
- 33:53Speaker 1: So I'm going to take Rich Rod plus three, probably
- 33:57Speaker 1: on more on the money line. I may actually take
- 33:59Speaker 1: a little Pennsylvania. I mean, a little money line parlay.
- 34:03Speaker 1: through that region and give me West Virginia, and I'm
- 34:05Speaker 1: going to pair it up with USC in that one
- 34:08Speaker 1: to give me my underdog money line parlay play there.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Not in love with this, but I just kind of
- 34:14Speaker 1: think both these teams are going to run the ball,
- 34:16Speaker 1: run the ball, and run the ball. But West Virginia's
- 34:19Speaker 1: defense is fucking terrible, and that was my only hesitation
- 34:24Speaker 1: in this one.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Terrible.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Is what they're going to do, but give me the
- 34:27Speaker 1: Rich Rods plus three. I mean, we're talking pizza bet here, buddy.
- 34:30Speaker 1: I mean, 50-buck money-line parlay on those two teams.
- 34:33Speaker 2: I'm going to tie them up together.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I think West Virginia is– when they play at home,
- 34:42Speaker 3: it feels like they've always got a chance. Just like
- 34:44Speaker 3: on the road last week, they totally blew that game.
- 34:48Speaker 3: They should have won that game. They couldn't stop Iowa
- 34:50Speaker 3: State at all.
- 34:52Speaker 1: No.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I mean, at all.
- 34:53Speaker 3: That was big play fest after big play fest. So
- 34:57Speaker 3: I think West Virginia, they may figure out how to
- 35:00Speaker 3: get this done at home.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Let's see what we got there. You got anything in
- 35:04Speaker 1: Wake Forest, NC State?
- 35:06Speaker 2: I am out. I think Wake Forest is good, but
- 35:09Speaker 2: they're kind of banged up.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and NC State's taking a lot of money in
- 35:13Speaker 1: that game. It's kind of interesting because I'm underwhelmed with
- 35:17Speaker 1: that team. Old Domino getting nine and a half against
- 35:20Speaker 1: Appy State. This Appy State team's actually pretty good. Old Domino,
- 35:24Speaker 1: way down. way down from what they've been last couple
- 35:27Speaker 1: of years. Uh, not a whole lot for me there
- 35:29Speaker 1: probably would lay nine and a half with Virginia against
- 35:32Speaker 1: Syracuse that haven't done anything there yet. Uh, Purdue, Minnesota.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Let's talk about this line for a second. Purdue coming
- 35:41Speaker 1: off of that big win last week, beating Michigan. You
- 35:45Speaker 1: got PJ Fleck crowd surfing, chugging out of the Oaken barrel,
- 35:49Speaker 1: chugging water, doing all kinds of things. Um, Purdue at
- 35:55Speaker 1: home getting two and a half. Everybody's on Purdue. This
- 35:59Speaker 1: line stinks to me. You know, can they get it done?
- 36:04Speaker 1: I mean, Purdue's defense is awful. I mean, just terrible.
- 36:07Speaker 1: But they can score. They're averaging 30 points a game.
- 36:10Speaker 1: But this mini team can go, too. And so I
- 36:12Speaker 1: would take– I wouldn't be scared to lay– if I'm
- 36:15Speaker 1: going to take mini, I don't know if I'd lay
- 36:16Speaker 1: two and a half. I'd probably take the money line.
- 36:18Speaker 1: I cannot get on board with back at Purdue at
- 36:21Speaker 1: under three points. I think Minnesota's going to win this game.
- 36:26Speaker 1: This is clearly priced like a letdown spot for Minnesota.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Big home win, going on the road. They had two
- 36:34Speaker 3: good wins. And one of them on the road. Sooner
- 36:37Speaker 3: or later, you've got to admit, hey, this football team
- 36:39Speaker 3: may be pretty good. And I just think Minnesota's better
- 36:44Speaker 3: than they are. Fleck will get it done. I think
- 36:46Speaker 3: they win the ball game, and I think they cover.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Next one I like. Give me Sunbelt Billing. Minus seven
- 36:52Speaker 1: and a half on the road at Georgia Southern. James
- 36:55Speaker 1: Madison looks good. Sunbelt's happy. I'm talking about Sunbelt, Billy.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Sunbelt is back where he belongs.
- 37:00Speaker 2: He's five and a half straight up.
- 37:02Speaker 1: He could be.
- 37:03Speaker 3: A total weirdo and nobody says anything because it's a
- 37:05Speaker 3: smaller school.
- 37:07Speaker 1: I'm on the wagon.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Give me the wagon.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Give me James Madison.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Buy it down. Give me seven.
- 37:12Speaker 1: UCF Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State laying ten and a half
- 37:16Speaker 1: in this one. UCF coming off of that cover against
- 37:20Speaker 1: Houston last week. You got to play here.
- 37:23Speaker 2: You like Oklahoma State here, don't you? I love Oklahoma
- 37:25Speaker 2: State here. I think they are going.
- 37:28Speaker 3: I mean, I think they're going to score and I
- 37:32Speaker 3: think they're going to score at will in this football game.
- 37:37Speaker 2: This is one of my favorite games of the week.
- 37:40Speaker 3: And I just feel like I'm watching UCF because I
- 37:43Speaker 3: watched every minute of that.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Houston game last year. This team is slower.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Than they've been. Frost has got a lot of ground
- 37:51Speaker 3: to make up on speed. I think that defense is
- 37:54Speaker 3: going to have all kinds of problems covering Oklahoma State.
- 37:58Speaker 3: And I think you see, I think Mr. Maker has
- 38:00Speaker 3: a huge game. Look, second half, Houston gashed them.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I mean, I was.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Scared to death I wasn't going to cover, and they
- 38:11Speaker 3: were up 14-0 at half. And I was getting 10-1⁄2.
- 38:14Speaker 3: And you're like, I'm scared to death that I'm going
- 38:17Speaker 3: to cover. Because, honestly, UH was moving the ball at will,
- 38:22Speaker 3: and UCF couldn't do anything. All it was is Houston
- 38:25Speaker 3: woke up. You're not going to get a sleeping team.
- 38:28Speaker 3: You've also got two long road trips back-to-back. This is
- 38:32Speaker 3: three-hour flights from Orlando, both back-to-back weeks. Give me Okie
- 38:39Speaker 3: State right here. I think they've taken the pound town.
- 38:43Speaker 1: You're going to lay 37.5 with Northwestern against Testicle Tech?
- 38:47Speaker 1: That's a huge number.
- 38:48Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 38:50Speaker 1: A & M plus 3.5 at Mizzou. Who are we
- 38:54Speaker 1: going to find out as a real football team in
- 38:56Speaker 1: this game?
- 38:57Speaker 3: I'm going to go with Mizzou just because they're at home.
- 39:01Speaker 3: That certainly feels like– I mean, look, talk about coming
- 39:03Speaker 3: off a big game. Sooner or later, Marcel Reed is
- 39:06Speaker 3: going to play like he actually has played football before.
- 39:09Speaker 3: And because he's too talented to be as bad as
- 39:12Speaker 3: he's been, But I think Mizzou's better than people think.
- 39:18Speaker 3: I also think, you know, you saw that about the
- 39:22Speaker 3: kid is on the transplant list. They've got a freshman
- 39:26Speaker 3: on that team that they found out has got like a,
- 39:28Speaker 3: I think it's a heart disease. issue and is now
- 39:30Speaker 3: on a transplant list. Like Drinkwits in his press conference
- 39:34Speaker 3: was crying this week talking about the kid. I did
- 39:37Speaker 3: a little bit of rally, let's win one for the
- 39:39Speaker 3: Kemper kind of deal. And I think that's the difference
- 39:42Speaker 3: in the football game. I think going on the road,
- 39:46Speaker 3: I think that's going to be the difference. I would
- 39:48Speaker 3: probably buy the hook down here and get this to three,
- 39:52Speaker 3: where you would at least get a push out of
- 39:54Speaker 3: a tie, out of a three-point ballgame. Could I see
- 39:57Speaker 3: A & M winning this game? Yes, because, again, at
- 40:00Speaker 3: some point they're going to be talented enough. But I
- 40:03Speaker 3: don't think A & M is going to be able
- 40:04Speaker 3: to cover Caden Lee. Hell, ain't nobody covered him yet,
- 40:07Speaker 3: including Mississippi State and their loss. Simmons looks really good
- 40:11Speaker 3: at the quarterback spot. Hell, has he thrown an interception yet?
- 40:14Speaker 2: Still don't think he's done.
- 40:15Speaker 3: He didn't throw an interception last week, did he?
- 40:17Speaker 1: I don't think so, no.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Still ain't thrown an interception. And Caden Lee gets open
- 40:21Speaker 3: every play. They play together at Ole Miss. They do
- 40:23Speaker 3: a great job of lining that kid up and getting
- 40:26Speaker 3: him available. He's the best wide receiver on the field
- 40:29Speaker 3: pretty much every week.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Boom. I think Mizzou gets it done.
- 40:34Speaker 1: UAB Memphis, you got anything in the barbecue game?
- 40:39Speaker 3: You brought this up. Feels like UAB will cover this
- 40:43Speaker 3: after that big number.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Memphis is pretty good.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I mean, you look at their losses. And, I mean, look,
- 40:49Speaker 2: they played well in that.
- 40:50Speaker 3: They didn't cover, but they played well in that Boise
- 40:53Speaker 3: game when they went out there. You know, they took
- 40:56Speaker 3: it to UNLV on the road.
- 40:57Speaker 2: They went on the.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Road last week and just gassed the easiest money ever.
- 41:02Speaker 3: They gas-canned North Carolina Charlotte. And FYI, for every listener
- 41:07Speaker 3: out there, I'm betting against Memphis. North Carolina, Charlotte, every
- 41:11Speaker 3: week until they cover. And they may not cover, ever.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Betting against them again this week. You're going to have
- 41:18Speaker 3: huge numbers.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Lay it. That's just the bottom line. That team is ungood.
- 41:24Speaker 1: A Big 12 matchup. We've got this one at Rice-Eccles.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Late-night game. Kansas traveling to play Utah, laying 15-and-a-half. Utah
- 41:32Speaker 1: at home. Give me Utah laying the big number here. Kansas,
- 41:37Speaker 1: to me, is not very good. And they have two wins.
- 41:41Speaker 1: They beat Long Island, and I think they beat Middle Tennessee.
- 41:45Speaker 1: And then they played two, you know, middle of the road.
- 41:47Speaker 1: I mean, what do we got in Kansas? I think
- 41:49Speaker 1: they– yeah, they pounded middle 55 to bullet. They lost
- 41:54Speaker 1: an Arizona State team by seven, and they lost to
- 41:56Speaker 1: Missouri by 17. I haven't seen a lot of explosion
- 41:59Speaker 1: out of this Kansas team, much less a whole lot
- 42:01Speaker 1: of creativity from their offense. And I don't know if
- 42:04Speaker 1: you've watched Utah play, but do yourself a favor Saturday night.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Get you a cold drink, get into bed, whatever you
- 42:11Speaker 1: want to do. Maybe have sex after the early game.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Enjoy some time with your wife. And watch Utah's offense.
- 42:22Speaker 2: It's creative.
- 42:23Speaker 1: I mean, they've got two quarterbacks on the field, probably
- 42:26Speaker 1: between seven and 15 plays a game. They're running double options,
- 42:29Speaker 1: all kinds of weird stuff here. And they look like
- 42:32Speaker 1: they're having a lot of fun. They've still got some physicality.
- 42:35Speaker 1: And the other thing, too, is Rice Eccles to me
- 42:37Speaker 1: is a still-hidden gem of a home-field advantage for these guys.
- 42:40Speaker 1: You're playing at altitude. They're right on top of you.
- 42:44Speaker 1: It's tough to win there. I don't think KU gets
- 42:47Speaker 1: it done. Give me Utah laying the big numbers in
- 42:49Speaker 1: that one. UCLA traveling to Oregon. This is a great game.
- 42:55Speaker 1: You got Chesney a couple weeks ago reaching out to
- 42:57Speaker 1: Dan Lanning saying, hey, you want me to go check
- 42:59Speaker 1: on your boy Dante Moore here in the hospital? Let
- 43:01Speaker 1: me know. when he's in Los Angeles after that big
- 43:04Speaker 1: hit in the UCLA game, the USC game. UCLA, this
- 43:08Speaker 1: team went from laughing stock to a wagon. They're 4-0
- 43:11Speaker 1: straight up, 4-0 against the number. Of course, you've got
- 43:14Speaker 1: the Oregon team with the early loss to Oklahoma State
- 43:17Speaker 1: trying to figure out, oh, is this team actually going
- 43:19Speaker 1: to have a chance to play for the national championship?
- 43:22Speaker 1: Dante more practice this week. I haven't seen if he's
- 43:24Speaker 1: green-lighted to go, but Dylan Raiola actually played pretty well
- 43:27Speaker 1: the last time he was out. You're laying 11 and
- 43:30Speaker 1: a half. Give me the Bruins plus 11 and a
- 43:33Speaker 1: half in this one.
- 43:35Speaker 3: I agree with you totally. Look, I think, look, this
- 43:39Speaker 3: UCLA defense can give up some big plays. But in
- 43:42Speaker 3: case you missed it, Oregon can too. Just call the
- 43:47Speaker 3: Cowboys in Stillwater. I mean, there are big plays to
- 43:50Speaker 3: be had out there. I think this UCLA offense is
- 43:53Speaker 3: going to be able to make some of them. I
- 43:55Speaker 3: think this line is too big. I candidly think UCLA's
- 44:00Speaker 3: got a chance to win this game. I don't think
- 44:02Speaker 3: they will, but I think they've got a chance with
- 44:04Speaker 3: a break or two to win this ball game.
- 44:07Speaker 2: What does Raiola do?
- 44:08Speaker 3: He looked fabulous last time, but he wasn't the quarterback
- 44:11Speaker 3: in charge. A lot of kids look good when they
- 44:13Speaker 3: come out, and it's just the moment, and they're free-flowing,
- 44:15Speaker 3: and they let it go.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Now he's at all week.
- 44:17Speaker 3: He's the guy. What's he going to do? How's he
- 44:21Speaker 3: going to look? That is certainly a question mark. I
- 44:25Speaker 3: like UCLA here as well as you. to cover this game,
- 44:30Speaker 3: and don't be surprised if they win it.
- 44:31Speaker 1: All right, next game I've got, I'm not even going
- 44:34Speaker 1: to go into a deep breakdown here. Virginia Tech is
- 44:36Speaker 1: coming off of that loss last week when they played Pittsburgh.
- 44:39Speaker 1: We're talking about the field goal we were talking about earlier.
- 44:43Speaker 1: This team's actually played really well. You're starting to get
- 44:46Speaker 1: some physicality that you've seen from this team. Cal is
- 44:49Speaker 1: a mess. Go read anything about them. They've started to
- 44:51Speaker 1: get banged up with some injuries. Offensive coordinator doesn't seem
- 44:54Speaker 1: like they know what they're doing with JKS in there.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I think he may be banged up a little bit.
- 44:58Speaker 1: I like Tosh Lupoi. I was high on this team.
- 45:01Speaker 1: I knew this defense wasn't going to be very good
- 45:03Speaker 1: this year, and I kind of assumed they were going
- 45:05Speaker 1: to have to score and score a lot to stay
- 45:07Speaker 1: in games. But they've struggled at times to do that
- 45:10Speaker 1: against competition. The only two games that they've broken 30
- 45:14Speaker 1: points was against Wagner and then in a losing effort
- 45:18Speaker 1: to a UNLV team that is extremely subpar. I think
- 45:23Speaker 1: Virginia Tech comes out super hot pissed. I mean, this
- 45:27Speaker 1: is a James Franklin special. We got robbed last week.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Nobody respects us. He is going to play that woe
- 45:35Speaker 1: is me card.
- 45:35Speaker 3: I'm going to fly across the country.
- 45:39Speaker 1: 230, California. Let's get it rolling. Give me Virginia Tech
- 45:44Speaker 1: minus 10. Biggest play of the week for me.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you. I think Tech's going to
- 45:48Speaker 2: win this. I just think they're a better team than Cal.
- 45:51Speaker 3: I think Cal will be able to keep it close
- 45:53Speaker 3: for a little while, but overall, I think they're done.
- 45:58Speaker 2: I think Tech will cover.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Texas-Oklahoma, Cotton Bowl game. Texas comes in here 4-0, number
- 46:04Speaker 1: one in the country. Oklahoma's 2-2. Both these teams are
- 46:08Speaker 1: 1-3 against the number. Both these teams are 1-3 to
- 46:10Speaker 1: the under. Yep. Oklahoma has not scored an offensive touchdown
- 46:15Speaker 1: on Texas three years ago from yesterday, October 7th, 2023,
- 46:20Speaker 1: for those of you that are doing some math. If
- 46:23Speaker 1: you go look at these two teams on paper and
- 46:25Speaker 1: you take their names off, you can't find a goddamn
- 46:28Speaker 1: difference between Mateer and Arch Manning. If his last name's
- 46:32Speaker 1: not Manning, we're not talking about it.
- 46:33Speaker 3: I would tell you that you got an advantage at
- 46:35Speaker 3: the quarterback spot at Oklahoma. How big of a mouthful
- 46:38Speaker 3: is that for anybody that watched the Michigan-Oklahoma game?
- 46:43Speaker 1: Line, everybody that's public is going to be on Texas.
- 46:47Speaker 1: This line's moving down. I bet this line will release
- 46:51Speaker 1: at eight and a half. I could be way on
- 46:53Speaker 1: the wrong side of it. Give me the Sooners plus eight.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I think this game's closer than you think. I would
- 46:59Speaker 1: take first half under in this one, too, because I
- 47:02Speaker 1: don't think either one of these coaches is going to
- 47:04Speaker 1: want to lose the game in the first half. I
- 47:06Speaker 1: look for it to be really buttoned up, relying on
- 47:08Speaker 1: those defenses. Those are their two best units on the field.
- 47:12Speaker 1: And I would go under, but the totals fucking gotten
- 47:15Speaker 1: zapped 39 and a half.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Are you kidding?
- 47:18Speaker 1: And so, I mean, I, I would lean to an
- 47:21Speaker 1: over here, but I just be 39 and a half.
- 47:24Speaker 1: The problem is if you have one defensive or specialties mistake,
- 47:27Speaker 1: you're it's over.
- 47:29Speaker 3: Well, look, you're going to have it with John Mateer.
- 47:33Speaker 3: That's coming. So you take the over. If that's all
- 47:36Speaker 3: it's going to take, if you think that's all it's
- 47:37Speaker 3: going to take.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Yeah. He's going to have one.
- 47:39Speaker 3: I don't think there's any way that, that, They're not
- 47:43Speaker 3: going to force him into a turnover.
- 47:45Speaker 2: I mean, look, this pass rush is legit. I mean,
- 47:47Speaker 2: it is.
- 47:49Speaker 3: What I think on this number is I just think
- 47:52Speaker 3: there's some hatred here. Make no mistake, Oklahoma's still got
- 47:56Speaker 3: a talented roster, and they've got a really talented defense.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Now, they are getting a little banged up over.
- 48:01Speaker 3: There, but this is still a good enough football team
- 48:07Speaker 3: that I think they can stay with Texas because at
- 48:09Speaker 3: the end of the day, this isn't an explosive Texas
- 48:11Speaker 3: football team.
- 48:12Speaker 2: They're not. They should be, but they're not.
- 48:15Speaker 3: I also think– don't forget Smothers started out– Hollywood Smothers
- 48:19Speaker 3: started out at Oklahoma.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:22Speaker 3: So there's going to be a little bit of– there's
- 48:25Speaker 3: going to be some kids he played with up there.
- 48:27Speaker 3: So I think there's going to be a lot of
- 48:29Speaker 3: oomph in this ballgame. So like it always is. So
- 48:35Speaker 3: I just think this is too big. I think we're
- 48:36Speaker 3: going to get a close low-scoring game. I do think
- 48:39Speaker 3: this game's going to be won by a mistake by
- 48:43Speaker 3: a quarterback slash big play by the defense, whatever way
- 48:46Speaker 3: you want to call it. But I think that's going
- 48:48Speaker 3: to be where this game's launched. If you look up
- 48:54Speaker 3: and you say, you know what? Oklahoma got rolled because
- 49:01Speaker 3: Mateer threw three interceptions.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Is that going to surprise you? No.
- 49:06Speaker 3: But is the flip side true? Because I think you could.
- 49:09Speaker 3: I think you could look up at either one of
- 49:10Speaker 3: these teams winning this game. At the end of the day,
- 49:12Speaker 3: I think it's going to be a close, hard-fought game
- 49:15Speaker 3: like a lot of these games are.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Oh, man, I love it. Love it. This is my
- 49:20Speaker 1: favorite game to watch growing up. A couple other ones
- 49:22Speaker 1: we got here, Scotty.
- 49:23Speaker 2: I'm going to rapid-fire these because I've got a heart
- 49:25Speaker 2: out a few minutes.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Okay, well, don't miss North Texas minus 28 on Charlotte.
- 49:29Speaker 3: We can start there, baby. Buy the hook down, get
- 49:31Speaker 3: it to 28. North Texas on gas count. North Texas
- 49:36Speaker 3: is playing pretty damn good football.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Quietly in the yard.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Won in overtime last week. Neil Brown getting it done
- 49:42Speaker 3: up in Denton after the whole team transferred to Stillwater.
- 49:45Speaker 1: No, I agree with you. North Texas booked that one.
- 49:47Speaker 1: A couple other ones we got. Ole Miss traveling to
- 49:51Speaker 1: Nashville against this Vandy team. It's been a house of
- 49:53Speaker 1: horrors in Nashville for years for Ole Miss. I mean,
- 49:56Speaker 1: as long as you and I have been doing this
- 49:58Speaker 1: podcast and this is your 17, I feel like every
- 50:01Speaker 1: time we've laid it with Ole Miss and they go
- 50:03Speaker 1: up there and just lay an egg, I don't know
- 50:05Speaker 1: if it gets done anywhere, but if I'm going anywhere
- 50:07Speaker 1: with this one, I'm going over. in this one. I'd
- 50:08Speaker 1: go over 55.
- 50:09Speaker 2: I don't know if you got to play in that
- 50:10Speaker 2: one or not. I agree with you.
- 50:11Speaker 3: I think the over is the way, the way to go,
- 50:13Speaker 3: but Ole Miss should gas can these guys, especially coming
- 50:16Speaker 3: off the off week. They should gas can them, but I,
- 50:20Speaker 3: I think they're going to be able to look at
- 50:22Speaker 3: Ole Miss defense has not been very good.
- 50:24Speaker 2: I think you, I think you might see Vandy score
- 50:26Speaker 2: some points here.
- 50:28Speaker 1: I would lead to the under in the Tennessee Arkansas
- 50:30Speaker 1: game at 51 and a half line. Here's 13 and
- 50:32Speaker 1: a half phase on brain. It's not going to play.
- 50:34Speaker 1: George McIntyre is going to be a quarterback for Tennessee and,
- 50:37Speaker 1: I could see Hypo leaning on that defense more. I
- 50:39Speaker 1: don't see how Arkansas is going to create a lot
- 50:41Speaker 1: of chunk. I mean, they're only scoring 19.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Oh, they're terrible. Last one I want to get to, Scotty.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Georgia, Alabama.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Big game, baby. Big game.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Big game you've got here. Georgia plus one and a half.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Bama minus one and a half. Over under 51 and
- 50:59Speaker 1: a half. Both of these teams come in with identical
- 51:02Speaker 1: 5-0 records. Identical 4-1 against spread numbers. an identical 5-0
- 51:09Speaker 1: to the over numbers here. If you've watched these two
- 51:12Speaker 1: teams play, they're doing it very, very differently. Bama has
- 51:16Speaker 1: started to give a little bit more keys to the kingdom,
- 51:18Speaker 1: to Keyline, and he's looking good, man.
- 51:20Speaker 2: God, I think he is good, man. He's fun to watch.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Mario Taylor, I'm going to tell you, are the Heisman
- 51:26Speaker 3: favorites for next year. You can just go on and
- 51:28Speaker 3: get on it. Those kids are both legit. And that
- 51:32Speaker 3: they're friends is the other funny part. Rooming together at
- 51:35Speaker 3: the At the Elite 11.
- 51:37Speaker 2: That's fascinating.
- 51:38Speaker 3: I want to know who was grading quarterbacks and thought, yeah,
- 51:42Speaker 3: Bryce Underwood's better than both those kids.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 51:45Speaker 2: I mean, who the hell thought he was better than
- 51:47Speaker 2: those two kids? Who's rating these quarterbacks? Anyway, go ahead. No,
- 51:53Speaker 2: look at this game.
- 51:54Speaker 1: I took Georgia on the money line is where I
- 51:56Speaker 1: went with this one early in the week. Not my
- 51:59Speaker 1: favorite play. I'm not going to lie to you. But, again,
- 52:03Speaker 1: these teams– Very well coached. All the fucking flack that
- 52:07Speaker 1: Caleb DeBoer caught, you and I were like, bro, he's
- 52:09Speaker 1: a pretty good coach. And then you got Kirby Smart,
- 52:16Speaker 1: game plan. I mean, runs the ball. Gunner Stockton cannot
- 52:20Speaker 1: be further apart in quarterback play here. But Smart puts
- 52:25Speaker 1: a game plan that works for them. They run the rock,
- 52:28Speaker 1: run the rock, run the rock. He's got tight ends
- 52:30Speaker 1: coming out of his ass at this thing.
- 52:32Speaker 3: Stockton's a better athlete running the football people give him
- 52:35Speaker 3: credit for.
- 52:35Speaker 2: I agree with you. He's pretty tough.
- 52:39Speaker 1: What's your play?
- 52:40Speaker 3: I like the over provided the weather's good. You got
- 52:42Speaker 3: that hurricane coming in. That's what we got to watch.
- 52:46Speaker 3: But I think this game's going to be higher scoring.
- 52:48Speaker 3: I think Alabama can score on anybody. I watched them
- 52:53Speaker 3: last week. And look, they're a markedly better team, especially
- 52:57Speaker 3: with Kamario Taylor hurt and having the flu. And then
- 53:00Speaker 3: Fluff Botwell can't play. Hell, if you'd have told me that,
- 53:03Speaker 3: I bet on the game anyway. Hell, I bet on
- 53:05Speaker 3: that game two ways. I'd have tripled my bet had
- 53:09Speaker 3: I known that. And you would think I would have
- 53:12Speaker 3: heard that. I knew he was struggling with turf toe.
- 53:14Speaker 3: I didn't know his toe was broken. I mean, that's
- 53:16Speaker 3: a big deal. You know, you find out he's in
- 53:19Speaker 3: a boot all week. That's a big deal. That team
- 53:22Speaker 3: can't go without him. They certainly can't do it without
- 53:25Speaker 3: Fluff Botwell, who's their power runner. But what amazed me
- 53:31Speaker 3: is those wide receivers, there were three or four catches,
- 53:35Speaker 3: and one of them's for a touchdown.
- 53:37Speaker 2: State is all over him. You can't cover a kid
- 53:41Speaker 2: any better.
- 53:42Speaker 3: The DB touches the ball and deflects it, and the
- 53:46Speaker 3: kid still catches it for a touchdown. They are making
- 53:50Speaker 3: contested catches. They caught State a couple of times, dropping eight,
- 53:54Speaker 3: and they still got a guy behind them. These guys
- 53:57Speaker 3: can fly. He's got a great arm, but you've got
- 54:01Speaker 3: to watch Russell running. He's such a great athlete that
- 54:05Speaker 3: he can run. I think they're also finding out that
- 54:08Speaker 3: those two freshman running backs are who need to be
- 54:10Speaker 3: getting the football. I think you're going to see Hill
- 54:13Speaker 3: the third back before long at Alabama. But those freshman
- 54:17Speaker 3: backs are both really explosive players. You've just got to
- 54:21Speaker 3: be careful in pass protection with freshmen. But with the
- 54:23Speaker 3: ball in their hands, they're better running backs. But at
- 54:28Speaker 3: the end of the day, until they can learn protection,
- 54:30Speaker 3: they're only going to play in what are run downs.
- 54:33Speaker 2: That's pretty much it.
- 54:34Speaker 3: I think Bama can score on anybody, but I think
- 54:37Speaker 3: George is going to be able to score too. And
- 54:39Speaker 3: I think that's what this defense has been had by
- 54:43Speaker 3: some bigger, stronger wide receivers. Look at that Florida game,
- 54:46Speaker 3: that Florida State game. They have that one big kid,
- 54:49Speaker 3: and he blows it up, has a huge game, And
- 54:52Speaker 3: Florida State hasn't even been able to throw the football.
- 54:55Speaker 3: I like a high-scoring ball game here. I think it's
- 54:57Speaker 3: going to be a coin flip. But I will tell you,
- 54:59Speaker 3: give me Bama. I think Bama's going to win it.
- 55:02Speaker 3: That team's a whole lot better than I thought they
- 55:04Speaker 3: were preseason, and I already thought they were going to
- 55:06Speaker 3: be good. They don't have one good wide receiver. They
- 55:09Speaker 3: don't have two good ones. They got three good ones.
- 55:11Speaker 3: And then, oh, by the way, they got a damn
- 55:13Speaker 3: good tight end themselves. And then, mix in, they got
- 55:15Speaker 3: a second tight end who's a damn road grader blocking
- 55:19Speaker 3: that they bring him in on rundowns. I guess Bama
- 55:21Speaker 3: offense is very, very, very, very good. Ryan Grubbs doing
- 55:25Speaker 3: a great job with it. DeBoer is a better football
- 55:28Speaker 3: coach than people want to give him credit for, and
- 55:31Speaker 3: I think Bama is getting it, but I think both
- 55:33Speaker 3: of these teams are playoff teams. This just kind of
- 55:37Speaker 3: is what it is. Unfortunately, I wish we could have
- 55:40Speaker 3: avoided this and had both these teams in just Atlanta
- 55:43Speaker 3: like it would have been years ago, but we don't.
- 55:45Speaker 2: We get it the second week of October, so Get it, baby.
- 55:49Speaker 3: I like it, but I think your surest bet is
- 55:52Speaker 3: the over if the weather's dry.
- 55:55Speaker 1: Two quick ones. I got it hard out, Scotty. North
- 55:57Speaker 1: Dakota State's laying three in Vegas. This is going to
- 56:00Speaker 1: be a home game for North Dakota State. Don't kid yourself.
- 56:03Speaker 1: They are going to be there. They're going to fill
- 56:05Speaker 1: up Allegiant. UNLV didn't really have a home field crowd
- 56:08Speaker 1: to begin with. I've been to North Dakota State games
- 56:11Speaker 1: where they travel. It's going to be packed in there.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Lay it with North Dakota State in this one here.
- 56:17Speaker 1: And then the other one I got, Boise State minus
- 56:19Speaker 1: six and a half against Fresno on the road. This
- 56:21Speaker 1: Boise State team's good, really good. Physical, running the ball
- 56:25Speaker 1: as good as anybody. Give me Boise State. That's all
- 56:29Speaker 1: I got.
- 56:30Speaker 3: I like both those games a lot more. But this
- 56:32Speaker 3: Boise line is just like the Western Michigan line. It's
- 56:34Speaker 3: not big enough. They're better than this. They're going to
- 56:36Speaker 3: win this game. They'll win it comfortably.
- 56:39Speaker 1: That being said, folks, we love you.
- 56:40Speaker 2: Hit us up. Leave us some notes.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Send us some tweets. Put some comments out there. We
- 56:44Speaker 1: will talk to you all next week.
