• 0:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to Out to Pastor Joe.
• 0:01
[SPEAKER_00]: We're on the we're officially now on the out to pastor tour.
• 0:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Now we started doing it at training camp.
• 0:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah for OTAs.
• 0:10
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 0:11
[SPEAKER_00]: We were there for mini camp.
• 0:14
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 0:14
  [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
• 0:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we were there for preseason practices, yeah, then we made a transition to the palaces of WQM where you hot every morning from 6 to 10, right?
• 0:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe sometimes at night 30, you leave a little early, but, but they're about, right?
• 0:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so now we're in, now we're moving on, you know, we're, you know, menu have been, are, are, are mega miles away from Hall of Fame, calendar, right?
• 0:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, but we're getting closer, we're getting closer to Hall of Fame, because I'm telling you, we're in a refuge here that wreaks
• 0:53
  [SPEAKER_00]: of Hall of Fame.
• 0:54
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to have a little later on, but it's a little messy here, but things are getting organized, but this is a little Hall of Fame.
• 1:00
[SPEAKER_00]: So just kind of moving along that way.
• 1:02
[SPEAKER_00]: So what does this set the stage of where we are?
• 1:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: The teaser bulb.
• 1:06
  [SPEAKER_01]: That wasn't always good.
• 1:07
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's trying to throw that teaser out.
• 1:08
[SPEAKER_00]: I think what that could be, Matt.
• 1:10
[SPEAKER_00]: So now let's start the program.
• 1:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So 53 man rosters done.
• 1:15
[SPEAKER_00]: uh... they went through the first round of cuts uh... then they they had all the guys and then when they started signing players and it moved around so the the roster right now right now ten minutes from now and they changed but right now at fifty three um...
• 1:31
[SPEAKER_00]: How do you feel about the 53 right now as we're looking down the barrels of the Oakland or the of the Los Angeles You know, I'm never gonna get lost.
• 1:42
[SPEAKER_00]: I go Oakland lots of Los A and you know, it's called the Raiders, but the Ravers say they're looking down the barrel of the Raiders on opening day
• 1:49
  [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
• 1:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's go back to the original 53.
• 1:52
[SPEAKER_01]: I think I looked at that and I said this is not going to be the final 53.
• 1:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Sure enough the next day.
• 1:58
[SPEAKER_01]: They pick up seven or eight guys and it's got a brand new look to it.
• 2:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely new look.
• 2:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, by the way, how did they fill about their second third and fourth quarterbacks?
• 2:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: they're all gone.
• 2:09
[SPEAKER_01]: We're straight at the other two release.
• 2:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And so they went out and got a couple of quarterbacks that they felt much better about.
• 2:18
[SPEAKER_01]: It was obvious, but it's thin.
• 2:21
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a thin roster.
• 2:22
[SPEAKER_01]: They did not have 53 guys.
• 2:24
[SPEAKER_01]: They put that 90 together.
• 2:26
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think from the very top to the coaching staff said we don't have enough not to win games we don't have enough that we think guys complain is we get a high level yeah and look this this team I think we all agree that this team's going to more you know week by week change everything but but and it's not going to be
• 2:48
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking at the 53 now, and they've filtered out the rookies that they brought back and then flush them out with some free agents and stuff.
• 2:59
[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you look at the roster,
• 3:02
[SPEAKER_00]: And you look at the bona fide players and I'm just saying bona fide, meaning that they've played in the NFL, they've, you know, they've played and not that they're all pros or whatever, but I'm looking at probably 14 of those guys that are going to line up in Las Vegas on week one.
• 3:20
  [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
• 3:20
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 3:21
  [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
• 3:21
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the number that we should really talk about is the core of the last two drafts they had for sure that eight and the 13 here one got cut one song one got cut and and Tray Moore is on IR
• 3:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Ken and Kenneth Grant is on IR for now as well.
• 3:39
  [SPEAKER_01]: Rest on both.
• 3:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, they're not only on the team, a bunch of them are going to be lining up in this class of Vegas ready to go from both those.
• 3:46
[SPEAKER_00]: So we've talked all along about the other draft.
• 3:48
[SPEAKER_00]: Last year's drafts, the four, the four defensive linemen, join us off and that's Savaya and I, and then we go back to the draft prior to that, which I'm Robinson and those guys.
• 3:58
[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you put all those guys on and Grant, I think is the one that's not going to be, not going to be playing on the, he's out for a week.
• 4:04
  [SPEAKER_00]: He's out for a week.
• 4:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So he, but you know, and I don't understand how some of these guys, and I'm look, I'm not second guest, and because I'm not in the training room, but it's seemed like, you know, you're going along, okay, everything's good.
• 4:16
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no injuries in all of a sudden, like week three, well, this guy's not playing that guy.
• 4:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, what, what, what, what, they had a rash of, you know,
• 4:25
[SPEAKER_00]: If they have a rash of what we used to have at San Jose State when I played there, the coach would go, how can we not practice and it goes, because my hamstring, I go, did you pull it?
• 4:35
  [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't pull it.
• 4:36
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's a near pull.
• 4:38
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's it's a near pool.
• 4:39
  [SPEAKER_00]: I'm afraid if I go out.
• 4:40
[SPEAKER_00]: It's not pulled yet, but I'm afraid if I get on that practice field, it's going to pull.
• 4:45
  [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
• 4:46
[SPEAKER_01]: There's no quote near pools on this.
• 4:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I got to tell you, man, I think this group that they have, it's a it's a prove me team show me team.
• 4:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think both those guys want to play if they can.
• 4:58
  [SPEAKER_01]: The good.
• 4:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think too many of these guys can be out for the year.
• 5:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Train more may be late in the year coming back.
• 5:03
[SPEAKER_01]: So far it looks like a lot of these guys.
• 5:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think the 14 or 15 guys that I say are bona fide, I like most of all those guys.
• 5:15
[SPEAKER_00]: It's to be solid players.
• 5:16
[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about guys like Sealer.
• 5:18
[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about Patrick Paul.
• 5:20
[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about the running backs.
• 5:23
[SPEAKER_00]: you're talking about most of the offensive line, the defensive front, the defensive front, you've got the inside line backers, and so the one of the bona fide guys are good players, we just don't have enough of those guys.
• 5:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and both this and about, there's a lot of guys that, you know, they haven't played at this level and facing Las Vegas, you know, just practicing it's the same guys that are just like you every day in practice and then a lot of guys didn't play a lot in preseason.
• 5:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Zeke Bigger's did not play at all in the preseason football games.
• 5:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, he wasn't the only one.
• 6:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Caleb Douglas played like we didn't see him the last couple of games.
• 6:03
[SPEAKER_01]: They kind of suited him up, but he didn't play much.
• 6:06
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, hey, Bo, now they're lining up against veterans who were first and second cover corners on the team and they're going to see a lot of things.
• 6:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I think you can say that about this whole rookie class.
• 6:17
[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to see a lot of things they've never seen before.
• 6:19
  [SPEAKER_00]: No doubt.
• 6:20
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's start this out.
• 6:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that being said, going over the roster and just what kind of we feel about that roster and it's make up, what to you?
• 6:32
[SPEAKER_00]: is the biggest concern on this football team.
• 6:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm gonna spend it a little bit.
• 6:38
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm concerned that we don't have enough for Malik Willis.
• 6:44
[SPEAKER_01]: There's Malik Willis have enough skill players around them to have success.
• 6:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So we can find out if he's the franchise quarterback.
• 6:53
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think all these guys are gonna be good.
• 6:55
  [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how long it's gonna take.
• 6:57
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this receiver class because I think all three of those wide receivers going to be in the rotation.
• 7:03
[SPEAKER_01]: All three guys they drafted Coleman Douglas and Belle are all going to play a lot of football, but I wouldn't be surprised.
• 7:10
[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to catch a lot, but there's going to be some growing pains in their man.
• 7:13
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot coverage is blocking check off.
• 7:19
[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be a lot of confidence.
• 7:20
[SPEAKER_00]: So I agree with you, but I want those guys to play because I want them to be better next year.
• 7:26
[SPEAKER_00]: But so you played a receiver position where you had to look at coverages, you had to run routes, you had to do you had to find different depths of where to get those.
• 7:36
[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you think those three rookie receivers, which I think they're all very talented, what do you think is going to be the biggest challenge for them throughout the course of the year to get to where they want to be next year?
• 7:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I think the biggest thing to what you talked about.
• 7:51
[SPEAKER_01]: They got to see it.
• 7:52
[SPEAKER_01]: They got to make mistakes in it.
• 7:53
[SPEAKER_01]: They got to have success in it from zone to man.
• 7:56
[SPEAKER_01]: And one looks one way before the snap.
• 7:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Now you're running your route.
• 8:01
[SPEAKER_01]: And it changes completely because the coverage is completely and you're not sure what to do.
• 8:05
[SPEAKER_01]: How about a lot of bump and run.
• 8:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And then last second, the guy pulls out into zone and you've already made up your mind.
• 8:11
[SPEAKER_01]: How about blitz, break off.
• 8:13
[SPEAKER_01]: How about check off when you're on the outside and you're not sure.
• 8:17
[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be a lot, and again, I think you're going to make a lot of plays.
• 8:21
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited that all these guys are going to play, but the unknown bowl of how long this takes.
• 8:27
[SPEAKER_01]: We left last year's draft class, and I'm only speaking for me, Bo and I made disagree on this.
• 8:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Last year's draft class, by the end of the year, I didn't know who's going to be a good player coming back in year two or not.
• 8:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody did enough for me to go.
• 8:40
[SPEAKER_01]: that guy is going to be a really good football player.
• 8:43
  [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see it not me.
• 8:44
[SPEAKER_01]: You can say Philips and Marshall a little bit in Trader and those guys who are all going to most likely start or play a lot, but I still want to see a lot more.
• 8:53
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think the other thing about the receivers out there is personnel.
• 8:59
[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to see safeties, which to me, safeties in the secondary or they're the guys that
• 9:10
  [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
• 9:10
[SPEAKER_00]: They're the guys that look at when they break the, break the hull.
• 9:13
  [SPEAKER_00]: They're looking for nations.
• 9:15
[SPEAKER_00]: They're looking where the receivers are.
• 9:16
[SPEAKER_00]: And they disseminate information forward to the guys in front of them, the linebackers, and then the guys in the outside, right?
• 9:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
• 9:24
[SPEAKER_00]: You haven't, they haven't seen those kind of safety's in, forget the physical play of the safety's.
• 9:29
[SPEAKER_00]: The, the, the knowledge that, that those guys have, they're in there for eight, nine years, seven years.
• 9:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 9:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: They've seen everything.
• 9:36
[SPEAKER_00]: They, you can't, you can't give them some little point.
• 9:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Some little minimum little fake and think they're going to take it.
• 9:41
[SPEAKER_00]: They're smart, they're intelligent and they get to the ball in a hurry.
• 9:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to take them at least a half of a season to get to that, to that speed.
• 9:50
[SPEAKER_01]: How about getting the call out late and not loud enough and not everybody's on the same page, man.
• 9:56
[SPEAKER_01]: These guys have only been together and these practice is in again, Bo.
• 10:00
[SPEAKER_01]: So one thing, and I'm not going old school and I don't want to come back, but playing a lot of pre-season football with the same guys, put your head to the game, speeds the whole process up, and with three pre-season games, and a lot of our top guys didn't play a lot of football.
• 10:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Dante Trader played a lot in the end, and they were trying to get him ready.
• 10:18
[SPEAKER_01]: But I agree with your man, there's a communication and mental mistakes are gonna be as big as a physical mistakes that you have to go through to have success in this league.
• 10:27
[SPEAKER_00]: So here's my biggest concern about this football team.
• 10:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And it looks certainly the receiver.
• 10:32
[SPEAKER_00]: But I see a light at the end of the tunnel with the receivers out there.
• 10:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Who's going to put pressure on the quarterback?
• 10:40
  [SPEAKER_00]: Our edge rushers.
• 10:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Our edge rushers chop still.
• 10:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I know that everyone's saying, hey, you had a great preseason.
• 10:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Someone I think is Omar, someone's at all used.
• 10:50
[SPEAKER_00]: The MVP of training camp, I'm going to hold my judgment on that.
• 10:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Then show much, um, who else you got out there?
• 10:58
[SPEAKER_00]: You got Robert Beale Jr., you got Matt Herring.
• 11:02
[SPEAKER_00]: You got guys who were these guys.
• 11:05
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, and you're gonna try to put, if, if you, in this league, if you can't put pressure on the quarterback with the rules that are set for, they, they want to score 40, they want, but teams scoring 45 points to get.
• 11:18
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 11:18
[SPEAKER_00]: If you can't, if you can't get pressure in those defenses that can't touch anybody, that if you breathe on, they're going to call pass interference, it's going to be a long, long, long year.
• 11:31
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 11:31
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, I'm with you.
• 11:32
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's a great one.
• 11:33
[SPEAKER_01]: So that didn't see a lot of pressure.
• 11:35
[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're not getting pressure there, then you've got to bring those inside backers.
• 11:38
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 11:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Then you've got to bring safety's up.
• 11:40
[SPEAKER_00]: And then you've got to change that whole, what you're doing defensively, and look, I know that Jeff Hathley wants to have a complex defense both in the, in the front, and in the back side of that defense, I don't know with this group of players that he's got there if he can roll all the things he's got out in his arsenal.
• 12:00
[SPEAKER_01]: And if you blitz, you better get there because you're asking a lot of corners on the outside and and slot corners and everybody else and again, there's not a whole lot of experience when you look at the potential three guys are going to start that game.
• 12:15
[SPEAKER_01]: There's not a lot of experience you could put their all their games together and you don't come up with a full season with with this group of guys, not to date and it's the same thing with this whole team.
• 12:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: They just need experience.
• 12:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I think some of them are going to be really good football players.
• 12:29
[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a gloom and doom show, but, but it's going to take time, man.
• 12:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And patients is is not live.
• 12:36
[SPEAKER_00]: So we look Joe, we're not saying anything.
• 12:39
[SPEAKER_00]: that the general manager hasn't said, and the head coach hasn't said.
• 12:44
[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, wins look, wins or, you know, everyone wants to win, everyone wants to win whenever you step on the field, but you got to look at what this, this year's about building it up and getting ready next year, and if you win, so I'm okay fine, and I know people, I know fans hate hearing that, hate it, hate it, but it's the reality of it.
• 13:03
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's jump out to the next, the quarterback situation.
• 13:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Malik Willis, we've seen very little of him, see him in practice, see very little of him in a regular season, and I know he had the opportunity in a pre-season.
• 13:19
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know in Green Bay had some opportunities late in games to play, but man, start, you know, you, you walk into that, that, that stadium, it was a lights are on.
• 13:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And, and, and you got to go, um, that's the whole different ball game.
• 13:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, this is the first time he's the guy.
• 13:35
[SPEAKER_01]: He is, he is the franchise quarterback right now and how we handle everything and, and again, he's going to need some help.
• 13:43
[SPEAKER_01]: That's my, my thing is he's going to need some help.
• 13:48
[SPEAKER_01]: Or make throws and he's got time.
• 13:50
[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to make him.
• 13:51
[SPEAKER_01]: I also like one of the things we did see with them He can roll out of the pocket and make really accurate throws.
• 13:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and so Well, that's the one thing we haven't seen out of them The because they didn't allow him to run the ball very much.
• 14:03
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and that's been that pretty scrimmage He did and really ran a little bit in the first game, but we know we haven't seen his legs and that's that's that's certainly That's probably 40% of the package when you bring.
• 14:14
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I believe we'll see.
• 14:15
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
• 14:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I saw him roll out a few and make a few nice shows, but you know, but he and he's signing and he's going to have to hear this all year because people have already made up their mind that we're going to get one of those five or six top quarterbacks on the draft next year.
• 14:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And I tell everybody, look at the GM and head coast think he's got chance to be the franchise quarterback.
• 14:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And so we'll see, it's really up to him.
• 14:37
[SPEAKER_01]: And when he's got a chance to make place, both your guys are covered, and there's nothing you can do with it, that's not on him.
• 14:43
[SPEAKER_01]: If they don't give him any time, he's gonna try to run around and buy some time, but again, that's not on him.
• 14:48
[SPEAKER_01]: But when you have opportunities, he's gonna have to make some fun.
• 14:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we wanna say, hey, look, if you get this game to the season, no matter how many wins you got, if you can say, hey, we got our quarterback, that's what this is about with him.
• 15:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And because if you get that quarterback,
• 15:03
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're probably going to have a pretty high draft choice.
• 15:05
[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to spend that draft capital on another quarterback.
• 15:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 15:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: You can get receivers.
• 15:09
[SPEAKER_00]: You can get all these other guys.
• 15:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So another position to your familiar familiar with tight end position.
• 15:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was pretty good when we go on the adult rich.
• 15:17
  [SPEAKER_00]: You had Kaz Merrick.
• 15:18
  [SPEAKER_00]: You have been Sims.
• 15:20
[SPEAKER_00]: And then that got flipped around.
• 15:22
[SPEAKER_00]: And, and Dolchitz wasn't playing, and so who's your starter?
• 15:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Kaz Merrick is a Dolchitz, who was there you have it?
• 15:30
  [SPEAKER_00]: What's happening?
• 15:31
[SPEAKER_01]: I think Kaz Merrick starts at Titan for the blocking part of it, and I think he will find out he's going to, he's going to catch some footballs too.
• 15:39
[SPEAKER_01]: And Dolchitz is going to come in, and I think he takes over, he's going to be a nice little outlet receiver, I think it's going to be a lot of short passes.
• 15:47
[SPEAKER_01]: that that our quarterback can dump the ball to him.
• 15:51
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're getting that you don't have a lot of time, get the ball to do so and line up in second and three and second and two or third and two as far as I go.
• 16:00
[SPEAKER_01]: I think those are two guys.
• 16:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: By the way, Sims.
• 16:04
[SPEAKER_01]: He was going to be on this team and he had something happen.
• 16:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 16:08
[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't have him for any of the preseason and had to kind of feral the same thing on D-Fans of Batscruncher Boat.
• 16:14
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to make the team, but we never got to see it.
• 16:17
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say.
• 16:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And neither did the front office or coaching him.
• 16:19
