- 0:18Speaker 1: Good morning, welcome again into our devotion time here on
- 0:21Speaker 1: This is the Life podcast as we get ready for
- 0:23Speaker 1: our morning moments with Jesus today. This week we've been
- 0:27Speaker 1: looking at things God never meant for us to carry.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yesterday we talked about the weight of tomorrow. Today I
- 0:34Speaker 1: want to talk a little bit about another burden. that
- 0:38Speaker 1: can leave us mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and especially physically exhausted.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And that is the need to control everything. The Word
- 0:50Speaker 1: of God in Proverbs 3, 5, and 6, which many
- 0:52Speaker 1: people kind of know well and even can recite this verse,
- 0:57Speaker 1: but this verse has such an impactful meaning on someone's
- 1:01Speaker 1: life if they can not just memorize it, not just
- 1:04Speaker 1: say it, not just read it. But if we could
- 1:07Speaker 1: just really learn to apply the principles of what these
- 1:11Speaker 1: two verses say in context to the control issue that
- 1:18Speaker 1: many of us have on some level. But some just
- 1:22Speaker 1: really struggle with the ability to try to control everything.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And that's what we're going to talk a little bit
- 1:28Speaker 1: about this morning. When it says in Proverbs 3, verse
- 1:32Speaker 1: 5 and 6, To trust in the Lord with all
- 1:35Speaker 1: thine heart. And lean not unto thine own understanding. There's
- 1:40Speaker 1: a split there. The control has to go one way
- 1:44Speaker 1: or the other. Either the Lord's going to have it.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Or you're going to try to control it. There's a
- 1:50Speaker 1: split right there. Where you have to decide who you're
- 1:54Speaker 1: going to trust to control the issue. And then he
- 1:57Speaker 1: goes on to say in all thy ways acknowledge him.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And he shall direct thy path. Most of us like
- 2:06Speaker 1: to know what's happening. That's a natural thing for all
- 2:10Speaker 1: of us to want to know what's happening. We want
- 2:12Speaker 1: to understand the plan. We want to know where the
- 2:15Speaker 1: road is leading us and feel certain that everything will
- 2:19Speaker 1: turn out the way we believe it should. That's the key,
- 2:22Speaker 1: the way we believe it should. And there's nothing wrong
- 2:25Speaker 1: with wanting direction in our lives. But sometimes our desire
- 2:29Speaker 1: for direction can slowly become a need to control. And
- 2:35Speaker 1: we begin to believe, maybe you're in this position this morning,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you begin to believe that everything depends on you. What
- 2:44Speaker 1: you're doing is you're trying to manage every detail, predict
- 2:48Speaker 1: every possibility, control how other people respond, act and react
- 2:53Speaker 1: to every situation. And when something doesn't go according to
- 2:57Speaker 1: your plan, what happens is we all begin to become
- 3:01Speaker 1: anxious and frustrated. Because somehow you feel as though you're
- 3:06Speaker 1: losing your grip on the control. And if that's you
- 3:10Speaker 1: this morning, we need to just kind of harness in
- 3:14Speaker 1: on that and listen to what the Lord is trying
- 3:16Speaker 1: to tell us. But perhaps losing our grip on the
- 3:20Speaker 1: situation is exactly what needs to happen. Because here in
- 3:24Speaker 1: Proverbs it tells us to trust in the Lord with
- 3:28Speaker 1: all our heart and lean not unto our own understanding.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And that can be difficult because our understanding is usually
- 3:37Speaker 1: the first thing that we do lean on. We look
- 3:41Speaker 1: at what we know, what we see, and what makes
- 3:44Speaker 1: sense to us. But faith requires us to trust God
- 3:49Speaker 1: even when we don't understand what He's doing or can't
- 3:53Speaker 1: see the plan. See, God has asked us to be obedient,
- 3:58Speaker 1: but He never asked us to be in control of
- 4:01Speaker 1: the outcomes. Our responsibility is to follow His direction, but
- 4:06Speaker 1: the results, they belong to Him. And how much peace
- 4:11Speaker 1: have we surrendered in our lives simply because we're trying
- 4:15Speaker 1: to control something that was never within our power to
- 4:18Speaker 1: control in the first place? We cannot control every circumstance.
- 4:24Speaker 1: We cannot control what others think about us. We can't
- 4:28Speaker 1: control Every change that comes into our lives. But we
- 4:32Speaker 1: can choose. This morning. Starting today. To trust the Lord.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Who remains in control of it all. See trust doesn't
- 4:43Speaker 1: mean that we stop caring or preparing. But what it
- 4:47Speaker 1: does mean. It means you can't. You can stop believing.
- 4:51Speaker 1: That everything rests on your ability to control the outcome.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I really want that to speak to you this morning.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Because that's what we're. Trying to learn this week. Things
- 5:01Speaker 1: we were never meant to carry. There comes a moment
- 5:05Speaker 1: when you must loosen your grip. Open your hands and say, Lord,
- 5:11Speaker 1: I have done what I know to do. Now I
- 5:15Speaker 1: place this in your hands. I am losing control and
- 5:21Speaker 1: giving it to you. Say that this morning. You don't
- 5:25Speaker 1: have to understand every detail before you trust God with
- 5:28Speaker 1: the direction of your life. He can see what you
- 5:33Speaker 1: can't see. And He knows where every road leads. So
- 5:38Speaker 1: trust Him. So stop carrying the pressure of trying to
- 5:42Speaker 1: control everything. Do what God has placed before you to
- 5:46Speaker 1: do today. And trust Him with everything that remains beyond
- 5:49Speaker 1: your reach. That's what the Lord wants to speak to
- 5:52Speaker 1: all of us today. I'm going to play you a
- 5:55Speaker 1: song this morning. I wrote this song several years ago
- 5:59Speaker 1: during a difficult time in my own life when I
- 6:01Speaker 1: was trying to control situations that were never mine to
- 6:06Speaker 1: control in the first place. And eventually the very things
- 6:09Speaker 1: I was trying to manage, they began to control me.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And that is when I felt God saying, step back
- 6:17Speaker 1: and let me have control. So this song, I Lose Control,
- 6:23Speaker 1: came from that moment of surrendering. So today you be safe,
- 6:27Speaker 1: you be strong, and you always be blessed. Always be
- 6:31Speaker 1: willing to lose control as long as you lose it
- 6:34Speaker 1: to the Lord and let Him have it. He'll take
- 6:37Speaker 1: you where you need to go, and He'll take care
- 6:39Speaker 1: of every situation because it's His to take care in
- 6:43Speaker 1: the first place. Lord, we will see you back here
- 6:45Speaker 1: again tomorrow. And until then, I sure hope you have
- 6:50Speaker 1: a great day.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I've been holding the reins way too tight.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Trying to make every wrong turn right.
- 7:17Speaker 4: But the harder I try, the less I see.
- 7:23Speaker 2: What I'm trying to control Is really controlling me.
- 7:30Speaker 5: So I'm letting go I'm tired of.
- 7:34Speaker 2: The strain For peace to come.
- 7:40Speaker 5: You take the reins I lose control It's in your
- 7:48Speaker 5: hands All the decisions and demands Before one more day
- 8:01Speaker 5: takes its toll.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Shades of joy flood my soul. I give it all
- 8:14Speaker 3: to you, Lord.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Just take control. Like a river that fights against the
- 8:29Speaker 2: bend I keep forgetting you know where it ends You.
- 8:39Speaker 5: See the window I can't see through And I know
- 8:46Speaker 5: your ways are always true.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So I'm laying it down in my world And letting your.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Spirit be my guide I lose control It's in your
- 9:12Speaker 5: hands All the decisions and demands Before one more day
- 9:23Speaker 5: takes its toll.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Shades of joy flood my soul. I give it all.
- 9:36Speaker 4: To you, Lord.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Just take control.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Let the fear roll away like midnight.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Your grace still keeps my heart from harm. I'm not
- 9:59Speaker 4: falling apart I'm falling into grace Finding my strength in.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Your embrace I lose control It's.
- 10:15Speaker 2: In your hands Shades of joy still flood my.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Soul I give it all to you, Lord Just take
- 10:46Speaker 6: control
- 10:55Speaker 2: When I lose control
