- 0:00Speaker 1: Anthony Rizzo, David Ross, Chris Bryant. Welcome back to another
- 0:11Speaker 1: episode of Lovable Reunion. I'm Anthony Rizzo, my partner David Ross,
- 0:16Speaker 1: joined by twenty sixteen MVP Chris Bryant. Welcome to the show.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Can you believe it's been ten years?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been on quite a journey since then. Yeah
- 0:27Speaker 2: I can. Yeah, but no, it's it's been cool to
- 0:31Speaker 2: see everybody get together and seems like everybody hasn't changed
- 0:35Speaker 2: too much, so it feels like literally yesterday. Yeah, and
- 0:38Speaker 2: it does the.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Stories come out and you're gonna hear all the characters
- 0:42Speaker 3: kind of talk and how we get all the stories
- 0:45Speaker 3: out for this, But we're taking it back from the beginning, right,
- 0:47Speaker 3: like drafted number two overall?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Who was talent?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Who was number one that year?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Mark A Pell was Stanford? Wow?
- 0:56Speaker 4: Pitcher to Houston? Right Pitcher? Houston? Yeah, yeah, yep.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It was kind of weird, Like I I guess during
- 1:02Speaker 2: that time, I knew I knew I wasn't going to
- 1:05Speaker 2: be the first pick. It was like it was the
- 1:09Speaker 2: definitely two or three and I was like cubs in
- 1:11Speaker 2: into the Rockies, which is so weird that I'm i Rockies.
- 1:16Speaker 2: But yeah, that was that thirteen years ago. Now, wow, So.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I remember when you got drafted him, Chris and I
- 1:24Speaker 1: didn't get off to the best start in our relationship.
- 1:28Speaker 2: According to your lens, right, Yeah, for sure, I was.
- 1:31Speaker 1: When you get drafted, you come in usually as a
- 1:33Speaker 1: high draft pick. KB comes in and he takes batting
- 1:37Speaker 1: practice with us, and you know, you you bring him in,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you ask him what they signed for and what you
- 1:41Speaker 1: signed for slot slot.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Money, but his slot.
- 1:47Speaker 1: We made him say the exact number, and it was
- 1:49Speaker 1: it was a high amount, right to the decimal.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, right, And I was giving him a little bit
- 1:55Speaker 2: of crap.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And later on in our relationship he told me, like,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you're so mean to me when you first came.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you do. You. I think you were the
- 2:01Speaker 2: hot shot. I mean, didn't you just sign your extension
- 2:03Speaker 2: to your You were feeling yourself a little bit.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Everybody was rich.
- 2:07Speaker 2: That's nice, but it wasn't just like you weren't just
- 2:09Speaker 2: like right next to me. It was like you were
- 2:11Speaker 2: across the whole clubhouse. You made sure everybody heard I
- 2:15Speaker 2: was talking. And then now playing with you for seven
- 2:19Speaker 2: years is like and you still would do that. But
- 2:22Speaker 2: in a good way.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I've known that from the best, though, for you got
- 2:25Speaker 1: the best. One of the best compliments I've ever gotten
- 2:28Speaker 1: is Garrett cole goes, I don't understand why everyone loves
- 2:31Speaker 1: you so much. You can literally yell at someone tell
- 2:34Speaker 1: him to basically fuck themselves, and they walk away smiling,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and I'm like, yeah, I learned that from the best. Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Us, Well, we didn't get off to I remember the
- 2:43Speaker 3: first start I'm in.
- 2:44Speaker 4: I'm in spring training in fifteen.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I had just gotten there and I'm calling him c
- 2:49Speaker 3: B for Chris Bryant for like.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Oh first week, and finally he calls me.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Over and he's like, hey, Rossy, my name Chris is
- 2:57Speaker 3: spelled with a K.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I was like week to tell me you you you
- 3:03Speaker 1: remember that you were probably the first guy I played with,
- 3:06Speaker 1: like with the full beard.
- 3:07Speaker 2: That was great. I just came out of I was
- 3:11Speaker 2: literally thinking about this deal day. I was like, so,
- 3:14Speaker 2: I'm just used to playing with twenty one year old
- 3:16Speaker 2: like in college, and then you get drafted, then you
- 3:19Speaker 2: get thrown right into big league spring training, and then
- 3:21Speaker 2: there's a bunch of old guys like.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Like me, Oh it was old, yeah, but it's thirty eight.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Dude. I was like, I didn't know how to talk
- 3:28Speaker 2: to you. Like I obviously could relate to you more
- 3:30Speaker 2: because you were younger, but then like you and then
- 3:32Speaker 2: Lester was there and I'm like, I don't know what
- 3:35Speaker 2: to say to this guy. Camp. Yeah in the middle league. No,
- 3:39Speaker 2: it wasn't. Fourteen was my first big league?
- 3:42Speaker 3: Was yeah, yeah, because Scotty got that in the contract.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Scotty Bee got in the contract. Gotta get they gotta get.
- 3:47Speaker 2: The first round, the second pick. You should be you
- 3:49Speaker 2: should be big.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Then remember the training room. This is what my favorite
- 3:53Speaker 3: stories it was. I hear about this Chris Bryant. Guys
- 3:56Speaker 3: got all these minor league homers and stuff, and I
- 3:59Speaker 3: think we were really training together, getting all our physicals
- 4:01Speaker 3: and stuff. And you were laying on the table and
- 4:04Speaker 3: I walked in and I'm just like, how many how
- 4:06Speaker 3: many homeworks you hit last year?
- 4:07Speaker 2: No? No, it was in spring and spring That's why
- 4:09Speaker 2: it was. It was two and fifteen. I was doing great.
- 4:12Speaker 2: How many you have my league year before, like forty
- 4:17Speaker 2: three or something. No, I was hitting all the homers
- 4:20Speaker 2: in spring and like I was like, really good, this
- 4:23Speaker 2: is good. Trying to try and keep my head down
- 4:25Speaker 2: and not like and I'm just I think I was
- 4:27Speaker 2: like taping my wrist for a game. And I had
- 4:30Speaker 2: like eight or eight home runs that time at the time,
- 4:32Speaker 2: in the in spring, and you're like, hey, CB, how
- 4:36Speaker 2: many home runs you got? And I was like, uh eight,
- 4:39Speaker 2: and you and you loud laughed across the whole training room.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You're like, ah, no, you don't. You got zero. You
- 4:44Speaker 2: haven't hit any of the show yet. And then you
- 4:46Speaker 2: walked out. You walked out into I was like the
- 4:48Speaker 2: weight room, and I'm like, yeah, I don't remember.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I don't think we ever did this. But when you
- 4:55Speaker 1: finally when you passed him on home runs, I noted.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I wanted to call you and be like a motherfucker.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Review.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I rode that for a while.
- 5:07Speaker 3: It's on for a backup catcher to rip the uh
- 5:10Speaker 3: the superstars on.
- 5:11Speaker 4: The team, So I had to find my little angles.
- 5:12Speaker 2: It was I got to find little It's one of
- 5:14Speaker 2: my favorite like baseball stories. Though, just like you doing that,
- 5:19Speaker 2: like not like you didn't do it in like a
- 5:21Speaker 2: malicious way. Yeah, I was like you like put me
- 5:25Speaker 2: into You're like, yeah, I don't I haven't done anything
- 5:26Speaker 2: yet in this game. You know, and it was like, yeah, job,
- 5:30Speaker 2: but then you lightened up on me because you're fucking
- 5:33Speaker 2: mvv you know.
- 5:35Speaker 3: The one thing I learned, well, the one thing I
- 5:37Speaker 3: learned as a veteran, And you guys can relate to
- 5:39Speaker 3: this being in the game for as long as you have,
- 5:41Speaker 3: Like I came in getting ripped in a sometimes a
- 5:45Speaker 3: negative way by certain guys. You end up hating those
- 5:47Speaker 3: guys and then it made me go into a shell
- 5:49Speaker 3: rather than like you will get the best out of your.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Teammates when you lift them.
- 5:52Speaker 3: You know, you got to give them a hard time
- 5:54Speaker 3: and and do some you know, rookie hazing.
- 5:57Speaker 4: But if you you make.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Everybody comfortable, like hey, we're all in this together, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 3: it makes it where you guys can perform and relax
- 6:04Speaker 3: and be the best friself.
- 6:06Speaker 1: You never really, I mean, the only stuff you got
- 6:08Speaker 1: was like playful panther, but it was.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Never like no also too, I mean, I think, I
- 6:15Speaker 2: guess I I don't know how you guys viewed me,
- 6:17Speaker 2: but I feel like I had a different personality and
- 6:19Speaker 2: some of the other guys like I was more reserved,
- 6:22Speaker 2: like I was. I'm not never been the loud loud
- 6:24Speaker 2: type of guy, and like I was always really hard
- 6:27Speaker 2: on myself, and I think I think that kind of
- 6:29Speaker 2: shone through. Like you guys been around me and when
- 6:31Speaker 2: I'm struggling, you're.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Like, yeah, that kind of like yourself.
- 6:35Speaker 2: It wasn't like it wasn't like he was just I
- 6:36Speaker 2: was just going out and there to be like, oh whatever,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I went over for it, like I wanted to do
- 6:40Speaker 2: good every game.
- 6:40Speaker 4: And it's like you talked about the five or five
- 6:45Speaker 4: from getting in his.
- 6:46Speaker 1: For five, three home runs, two doubles first time in
- 6:49Speaker 1: like history of the game or something, and we were
- 6:52Speaker 1: talking afterwards and he's like, hey, He's like I expect
- 6:54Speaker 1: to do that every night, and I'm like, oh, I
- 7:00Speaker 1: kind of mentality, but knowing you, and it wasn't in
- 7:03Speaker 1: like an arrogant or cocky way. It was just like,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, every night to the park, you could hit
- 7:09Speaker 1: five home runs in a game if you play right.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And yeah, like the mentality you always took and that's
- 7:15Speaker 1: why you were standards.
- 7:17Speaker 2: But also to like, I think there's a fine line
- 7:19Speaker 2: there right. Like also too, I think that's a little
- 7:21Speaker 2: bit of my downball too, is like being that hard
- 7:23Speaker 2: on myself, Like it doesn't let you enjoy the moment
- 7:27Speaker 2: as much as you should.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Like so after that game, like I just had a
- 7:31Speaker 2: historic game and I'm like, well that was our job.
- 7:34Speaker 2: That was yeah, you guys tell me. But then I'm
- 7:36Speaker 2: like I'm already looking forward to the next game, and
- 7:37Speaker 2: like how But I mean there is a balance.
- 7:41Speaker 3: There's a balance, And I think this goes over to life, right,
- 7:44Speaker 3: the balance of like working really hard, high expectations and
- 7:48Speaker 3: as much as we want perfection and knowing it's unattainable,
- 7:51Speaker 3: but striving for that and being also forgive yourself is like,
- 7:54Speaker 3: you know, find the positive in an zerover five game
- 7:57Speaker 3: when you play great defense and you know it's playing
- 8:00Speaker 3: behind Johnny Lester and John Lackey.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I mean, we could get to those stories, but man.
- 8:04Speaker 2: But it's like something we remember we had always thought,
- 8:06Speaker 2: Like I was hitting second and you're hitting third. We're
- 8:09Speaker 2: in like the ninth inning, Like we see ourselves like
- 8:11Speaker 2: five and six, and we're like we want that fifth
- 8:14Speaker 2: at bat, Like we're psyching ourselves out, like because like
- 8:17Speaker 2: you're zero for four or three. K's no baseball player
- 8:20Speaker 2: wants that fifth a bat, Like, but w're me and
- 8:23Speaker 2: you are constantly going back for like we need, we
- 8:25Speaker 2: want to fit bat, we want.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Because you get that hit, it seems pulls over to
- 8:29Speaker 1: the next day.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's a mental thing about being at the
- 8:31Speaker 3: top of the lineup that the eight hold hit or
- 8:33Speaker 3: that gets pinch hit for when you're down, you.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Start playing that game in the third like, oh, ship,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I hit him up already, Like n I might get
- 8:39Speaker 1: six today. Yeah, right, And but that's the respect for
- 8:42Speaker 1: the leadoff hitters is like in the top of the lineup, guys,
- 8:45Speaker 1: like there's five at bats every day where you're hitting
- 8:47Speaker 1: seventh or eighth, you can kind of hide and maybe
- 8:49Speaker 1: sneak in three. If you go one for three, it's a.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Great day, right, one for three with the walks, because
- 8:54Speaker 2: shooting at a.
- 8:57Speaker 1: W So fifteen years when you when when you came
- 9:00Speaker 1: up spring training, you go off, you they they hold
- 9:05Speaker 1: you back for whatever reason. That's as while the whole
- 9:11Speaker 1: service time thing manipulated your service time one hundred collusion,
- 9:14Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But when you came up, we needed you.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So a lot of times you see these guys get
- 9:21Speaker 1: called up to bad teams and it's like they kind
- 9:24Speaker 1: of get exiled the prospects, like they're like on their
- 9:26Speaker 1: own island where when you got called up, we needed
- 9:29Speaker 1: you and like we were excited because you were making
- 9:31Speaker 1: our team better. Yea, And for you, I always wondered
- 9:35Speaker 1: what I kind of know, but how was that for you?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Because first overall pick or second overall pick, Golden Spikes
- 9:42Speaker 1: Award winner, Minor League Player.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Of the Year, billboards outside of Wriggly bill boards outside
- 9:47Speaker 5: of Wrigley, And I are texting him after a game
- 9:51Speaker 5: like there's a big science saying worth the wait the
- 9:53Speaker 5: big Adidas sign and he's in Triple A.
- 9:55Speaker 2: He's in Des Moines and he's like, oh hey.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Guys, thanks, that was crazy easy like that do you
- 10:02Speaker 1: put pressure on myself?
- 10:03Speaker 2: But coming into the clubhouse, yeah, well so, like I
- 10:07Speaker 2: guess it kind of goes back to like my mentality
- 10:10Speaker 2: is like like I expected that pressure, like any team
- 10:14Speaker 2: that I was on from club ball through college, Like
- 10:18Speaker 2: I was in a position where they needed me, like
- 10:20Speaker 2: it was just normal baseball to me. Like I I
- 10:23Speaker 2: was like, I think we all were the best players
- 10:25Speaker 2: on our high school and college teams and like they
- 10:27Speaker 2: need you there, so we were.
- 10:30Speaker 3: It's not about you, guys, Okay, okay, it's not a
- 10:33Speaker 3: roast frosty day. We already got the gray Beard. Oh man, listen, listen,
- 10:39Speaker 3: smoking mirrors. Boys get the show and have rich friends.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That's what we're But like just for me, like I
- 10:45Speaker 2: don't know, it was just kind of normal for me,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and just how like I played the game like I
- 10:52Speaker 2: I expected to be the best every game. So it
- 10:56Speaker 2: was like I get called up and I'm hitting fourth,
- 11:01Speaker 2: uh James shields like, and then I proceeded to go
- 11:05Speaker 2: forward three strikeouts because I've never faced a.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And it took you a while to hit your first homer, right,
- 11:10Speaker 1: It's a lot, like like a month. Yeah, I remember
- 11:12Speaker 1: you remember, Yeah, I remember people starting to like mount
- 11:16Speaker 1: some pressure on you, like yeah this, yeah, we're.
- 11:18Speaker 2: You gonna hit a homer. Yeah, you still got zero guys.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Don't tell anybody what an asshole was. They don't know yet.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Am I going to take you? You think to settle because
- 11:28Speaker 1: you made the All Star Game that year?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and you're I mean the home run derby, right,
- 11:32Speaker 3: I was like, I mean right on the scene and
- 11:35Speaker 3: production and going.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean honestly, there was just I think
- 11:41Speaker 2: I really settled in spring training because I had a
- 11:44Speaker 2: great spring and I got to know a lot of
- 11:46Speaker 2: the guys on the team. I got to know you guys,
- 11:48Speaker 2: and it was kind of like, Okay, I'm going down
- 11:50Speaker 2: for a couple of weeks, tune up and I'll see
- 11:54Speaker 2: you guys soon. So like, you guys did a great,
- 11:57Speaker 2: great job in the spring, and I was there. The
- 11:59Speaker 2: whole was like up until two days before camp broke,
- 12:03Speaker 2: and I don't know, I just felt like people around
- 12:05Speaker 2: me did a good job of like getting to know
- 12:07Speaker 2: me made it easier. Yeah, and it happened.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Well, we hung and went to dinners and like we
- 12:13Speaker 3: did this, yeah all the things you were.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, we were bringing Chris to the big because we knew.
- 12:17Speaker 1: But it happened unfortunate but fortunate. Like Mike, oh, at
- 12:23Speaker 1: the perfect day broke his arm right or his hand
- 12:26Speaker 1: something like that. I'm like the exact day Chris was
- 12:28Speaker 1: able to get called up, he broke his arm. So
- 12:30Speaker 1: it was like unfortunate for Michael, who I love, and
- 12:34Speaker 1: it was a gross So you coming up was like
- 12:37Speaker 1: it was almost even easier that, like he wasn't just
- 12:40Speaker 1: there and like sending him down because he was doing
- 12:41Speaker 1: pretty well too.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, the whole that whole like grievance thing
- 12:48Speaker 2: too with the team. Like it's so funny that how
- 12:53Speaker 2: like as players, you see things in the media and
- 12:55Speaker 2: you're like, wow, that is way blown out of a portion,
- 12:59Speaker 2: like like people say, oh, like I hate the team
- 13:01Speaker 2: and this, and then it's like I got nothing real
- 13:03Speaker 2: respect for THEO and Jed and everybody involved. Like if
- 13:08Speaker 2: I was in their situation, I would have done the
- 13:09Speaker 2: same thing I have. My my service time was a maidulated. Yeah. Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 2: mine was just more like blatant, right yeah, yeah, well yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 2: like I had to go through that process of of
- 13:20Speaker 2: going through the grievance and sitting through like it was
- 13:23Speaker 2: like I was in court. I'm like to wear a
- 13:25Speaker 2: suit and go out to New York and sit Which
- 13:27Speaker 2: is it helped the players a lot, right, Obviously you're
- 13:30Speaker 2: supporting the guys that come after you, But in the
- 13:33Speaker 2: in the moment, you're like, dude, I just like I
- 13:36Speaker 2: don't want them to hate me, like I love I
- 13:38Speaker 2: love how they treated me and everything that my whole
- 13:42Speaker 2: time there, So I was just like, dude, it's crazy
- 13:44Speaker 2: how high profile you were.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Then yeah, and then you're going to win the Rookie
- 13:48Speaker 1: of the Year, then you go on to win the
- 13:50Speaker 1: MVP Right World Series, and then you continue to just
- 13:53Speaker 1: keep having Seventeen.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Was arguably better than sixteen.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, it's like crazy, like how high profile that was,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and then it panned out because of that. You're right,
- 14:02Speaker 1: but it usually doesn't pan out that way.
- 14:03Speaker 3: When the mix of how we brought on all the
- 14:06Speaker 3: young guys, I thought we had such a good you know,
- 14:08Speaker 3: you were you and Schwarves kind of the last p
- 14:10Speaker 3: and I guess Wilson in sixteen, but like some of
- 14:13Speaker 3: the young guys that were coming up that had either
- 14:16Speaker 3: broke in the year before, like Hobby, or that were
- 14:18Speaker 3: coming that were prepared with the veterans that brought in
- 14:22Speaker 3: like me Lester Lacky the next year, Hey we're the
- 14:24Speaker 3: next year is over, so next year some of those stuff.
- 14:27Speaker 2: It was just such a good mix of.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Young talent and personalities. They all just fit and everybody
- 14:32Speaker 3: felt comfortable and took off. What did you know we
- 14:34Speaker 3: were good in fifteen? What did you think we were
- 14:37Speaker 3: really good in FID Can you think back on that
- 14:40Speaker 3: a moment You're like, man.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I don't, I don't. That's a good question, because like
- 14:46Speaker 2: I guess like going into that year, no one expected
- 14:49Speaker 2: us to win what you been ninety seven games? Ninety
- 14:52Speaker 2: five games went to the CS. Yeah, and it was like,
- 14:55Speaker 2: I don't really know a point where I thought we
- 14:58Speaker 2: were good. I was, and that was my first year.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I didn't know how like the playoffs were you just
- 15:01Speaker 2: watching it on TV? You know what like a playoff
- 15:04Speaker 2: share was. I'm like going through all these new experiences.
- 15:07Speaker 2: But it was cool because I had you guys as
- 15:08Speaker 2: the older guys to lean on, and then a bunch
- 15:10Speaker 2: of the younger guys coming up too. So it wasn't
- 15:12Speaker 2: like I had a ton of pressure on myself. I
- 15:15Speaker 2: mean I did put a lot of it on myself,
- 15:17Speaker 2: but there was other young guys that took it on.
- 15:19Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean, you.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Know, you know what I remember pyecinctally. We talked about
- 15:25Speaker 1: this a lot in the game. It's all about perspective.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And when you got called up, you took pressure off
- 15:31Speaker 1: me because now that pressure was on you, and I was,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know, the guy, so but I wanted you to
- 15:38Speaker 1: do well because the better you did, the better I did,
- 15:41Speaker 1: and the better I did, the better we did.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Right, So it's like, but.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Then when if I was scuffling and I would see
- 15:46Speaker 1: like someone else scuffling like around the league or something.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Remember we always talk about this, and it's just like
- 15:51Speaker 1: all right, well, I mean that guy scuffles too, you.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Know, or yeah, or you or the other way too,
- 15:56Speaker 2: where you.
- 15:56Speaker 1: See like this guy's ten first, last twelve and you're like,
- 15:59Speaker 1: oh for oh, for your last fever, I gotta start.
- 16:01Speaker 4: I gotta catch Goldschmidt yeh yeah, yeah yeah right.
- 16:04Speaker 1: So it's like like on our team, especially being so young,
- 16:09Speaker 1: we had this group of superstars that came up and
- 16:12Speaker 1: it was like easier for us to all go through
- 16:16Speaker 1: our like ebbs and flows, but you guys.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Would pick out Remember y'all's conversations, which is y'all's relationship
- 16:21Speaker 3: is so unique from a guy that came from other
- 16:24Speaker 3: teams and bounced around, but like two superstars pretty.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Young in their careers, and how y'all.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Worked off each other's like I just need to get
- 16:31Speaker 3: through August with two more home runs, right, just you know,
- 16:33Speaker 3: I mean, you would pick your little battles of things
- 16:35Speaker 3: you were looking at to have this overall big picture
- 16:38Speaker 3: when it ends, and you impacting some of these young
- 16:41Speaker 3: guys like Hey, just grind through April and may the
- 16:44Speaker 3: wind's blowing in. When it gets the All Star break,
- 16:46Speaker 3: when it starts blowing.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Out, we're gonna go off.
- 16:48Speaker 3: We're gonna hit this like those little battles that you
- 16:50Speaker 3: guys mentored each.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Other, the Brizo Corporation stuff. Right.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Let me, let me, let me get into one little
- 16:56Speaker 3: Let me my readers. Chris can't believe I've got readers, But.
- 17:01Speaker 2: The Brizo didn't even look at you.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Chris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo might have taken the Brizo
- 17:06Speaker 3: thing a bit too far.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Both wound up with a batting average.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Of two ninety two twenty sixteen twenty sixteen, on base
- 17:12Speaker 3: percentage of three eighty five each, thirty nine home runs
- 17:15Speaker 3: for KB with one hundred and two RBIs. Rizil had
- 17:18Speaker 3: thirty two pumps with one hundred and nine rbiys, swapping
- 17:22Speaker 3: the last.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Digits as BFF.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Like I didn't know that.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Tell me I want to know as a young guy.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Is what I'm getting to is like, tell me how
- 17:30Speaker 3: he impacted you?
- 17:32Speaker 2: Oh my god, like like I think the best, like
- 17:36Speaker 2: some of the best compliments you can get as a
- 17:38Speaker 2: teammate is not like not like what you say to
- 17:42Speaker 2: me or like or like oh your hands are here,
- 17:46Speaker 2: you're swinging at this pitch. It's just kind of like
- 17:48Speaker 2: like how you make someone feel when they're around you,
- 17:51Speaker 2: Like when you're struggling and you need to come to someone, right,
- 17:54Speaker 2: And like our lockers were next to each other, and
- 17:56Speaker 2: it was like I could I cann't tell you anything
- 17:59Speaker 2: that you told me typically that made me feel a
- 18:01Speaker 2: certain way. It was more just like how you made
- 18:02Speaker 2: me feel after we spoke about like oh I'm doing
- 18:05Speaker 2: great or I'm doing terrible. I'd always walk away from
- 18:08Speaker 2: those conversations like dang, like.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, those were well because I feel like we were
- 18:14Speaker 1: so relatable. Yeah, like there was so much pressure and
- 18:17Speaker 1: you put so much pressure myself and I did too,
- 18:20Speaker 1: And like I wore it more on my sleeve where
- 18:22Speaker 1: you were a little quieter about it. I wore on
- 18:25Speaker 1: my sleeve. I felt like in a good way, not
- 18:28Speaker 1: like slam and Stone, No, no, not overly right, but it's
- 18:31Speaker 1: just so relatable where like you expect like greatness, right,
- 18:35Speaker 1: and like that's what we expect every single day, and
- 18:38Speaker 1: when you're going through it, like you got to enjoy it.
- 18:40Speaker 1: But when you're not going through it. I've learned.
- 18:42Speaker 2: I learned early.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Like you have to enjoy that too, because those those sunday,
- 18:47Speaker 1: those cloudy days make you appreciate the sunny days. And
- 18:50Speaker 1: like I lived my career by that.
- 18:52Speaker 2: But when we would when.
- 18:53Speaker 1: We would talk, it was like if he was struggling,
- 18:55Speaker 1: I was showing. We'd be right next to each other
- 18:57Speaker 1: or good or bad. It's just like therapeutic, like I'm
- 19:00Speaker 1: able to talk to someone that I could relate to, Like, yeah,
- 19:03Speaker 1: that at this level of like heightening pressure.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Mild the order bats, big market, every winning, everyday players.
- 19:11Speaker 3: You guys are carrying a performance like I've always said,
- 19:15Speaker 3: like you're not going to be very good if your
- 19:17Speaker 3: horses aren't horses that year, right if you if you
- 19:20Speaker 3: know horses that year, Like you guys have been horses
- 19:22Speaker 3: your entire careers.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Like when you'll post, like and I'm able.
- 19:26Speaker 3: To sit back, but we're talking about my house dynamics
- 19:29Speaker 3: and interacting with each other, like that's all funny games
- 19:32Speaker 3: getting know your teammates and being a good teammate and.
- 19:33Speaker 4: All that stuff.
- 19:34Speaker 3: But also like you guys carry a different like no,
- 19:36Speaker 3: I have to perform a day. I played once every
- 19:38Speaker 3: five days and call it Western Chicago. So like it's
- 19:41Speaker 3: a lot easier for a guy like me to be
- 19:44Speaker 3: that fun energy guy on a day I'm not playing.
- 19:46Speaker 3: You guys got to bring it every single day, day,
- 19:47Speaker 3: game after night, game, all that stuff. And like you
- 19:49Speaker 3: guys's relationship I thought was, like you said, very relatable,
- 19:54Speaker 3: and you guys talked each other a lot of gud conversation.
- 19:59Speaker 2: It was everything.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Like that's but for me, I think looking
- 20:03Speaker 1: back now, like years later, is I signed my deal early.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I had the confidence, like I had the guarantee, I
- 20:14Speaker 1: had the security. So like I remember, like at in
- 20:17Speaker 1: at Bat's big situations. For me, I'm like like I
- 20:21Speaker 1: would literally say to myself, and this probably sounds super
- 20:23Speaker 1: cocky and arrogant, I'm Anthony fucking Rizzo, and if I
- 20:25Speaker 1: don't get this done, I'll get it done next time.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And that helped me like relax and totally come down
- 20:30Speaker 1: in the box. So when KB gets called up, like
- 20:34Speaker 1: all I need to do is I want just him
- 20:36Speaker 1: to be the best, because I already have my fortune
- 20:39Speaker 1: for the next six seven years, right I signed my
- 20:41Speaker 1: deal and like there's no more pressure on me to
- 20:45Speaker 1: make money. It's just about winning, and like playing with you.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I was able to do that playing with Judge and
- 20:51Speaker 1: like learn so much from playing with you and your status.
- 20:54Speaker 1: He had to go play with Judge and like I
- 20:56Speaker 1: know his status. Or if you hit behind two MVPs, right,
- 21:00Speaker 1: I never thought it's not about me.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Every show.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Did you ever hit behind Goldmate in New York?
- 21:07Speaker 1: No, they got fired fired. But it's like these superstars
- 21:15Speaker 1: are like there is such a level that no one
- 21:18Speaker 1: could relate to. And for me, I felt like I
- 21:20Speaker 1: was close enough to be at that level, which I
- 21:23Speaker 1: wasn't to relate to come and help, just like with
- 21:28Speaker 1: all the extracurricular bullshit that you have.
- 21:31Speaker 2: To go through. Oh yeah, yeah that was one thing
- 21:33Speaker 2: Like for me, the extracurricular stuff. Did I say that extracurricular?
- 21:39Speaker 2: Uh yeah, just like like the billboard outside the like
- 21:45Speaker 2: I had no clue that was going on.
- 21:47Speaker 1: You just to play baseball.
- 21:50Speaker 2: That's not my personality to like be that way. It's
- 21:53Speaker 2: like I had so much like extra pressure, like and
- 21:57Speaker 2: then I was like doing like I did a Red
- 21:59Speaker 2: Bull video like walking a goat onto a bus. Oh yeah,
- 22:04Speaker 2: remember that before even got called up. And I'm like
- 22:08Speaker 2: and at the time, maybe I didn't know the history
- 22:11Speaker 2: of like the Chicago Cubs, and like now you're a
- 22:13Speaker 2: foreshadow of what you're about to do. Yeah, but like,
- 22:15Speaker 2: could you imagine if like I slipped and the ball
- 22:18Speaker 2: went over and like you never won and then like
- 22:21Speaker 2: I did some and I had all that other pressure,
- 22:24Speaker 2: Like like dude, I was just unneat, Like I look
- 22:27Speaker 2: back on it, I'm like, no way I would ever
- 22:30Speaker 2: agree to do.
- 22:30Speaker 3: You know what though, Like Okay, I love that because
- 22:33Speaker 3: you're like, Okay, we got all these things before I've
- 22:36Speaker 3: even done anything. But the fact that you won the
- 22:39Speaker 3: Rookie of the Year and you run the fucking MVP
- 22:41Speaker 3: when we won the.
- 22:41Speaker 4: World Series, like, yeah, you followed through it. There you go,
- 22:45Speaker 4: there you go, And that's harder to do, right, harder
- 22:49Speaker 4: to do and you did it.
- 22:50Speaker 3: So that's like you could you can be proud of
- 22:52Speaker 3: that now and speak highly of that.
- 22:54Speaker 2: But but like the one thing for me that I
- 22:56Speaker 2: wish I might have done differently during those times is
- 22:58Speaker 2: talk to you guys about that stuff more rather than
- 23:01Speaker 2: just like the day to day of like oh, I
- 23:04Speaker 2: didn't get hit here, I didn't come through, I didn't
- 23:05Speaker 2: get the runner in third lesson two. In this situation,
- 23:07Speaker 2: it was like more like everything that all this here
- 23:10Speaker 2: in compettion.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's the difference.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Like looking back, you're talking about how the pressure you
- 23:14Speaker 3: put yourself. You were a head down one perform, had
- 23:17Speaker 3: high expectations. I want to play baseball. I love playing baseball,
- 23:20Speaker 3: and then all this other stuff is coming with it,
- 23:22Speaker 3: which is great, but not if like I'm.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Just trying I have to make a career for myself.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Yeah right, yeah, yeah, I have.
- 23:27Speaker 2: To try to get there and stay there exactly, and
- 23:29Speaker 2: then I don't.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Care who you are.
- 23:31Speaker 2: It was. It was a lot, but like now I
- 23:33Speaker 2: look back, it's cool stories to tell my kids and stuff.
- 23:36Speaker 1: And we fast forward to fifteen, well fifteen the home
- 23:39Speaker 1: run derby Derby and your dad there too. Yeah, and
- 23:44Speaker 1: your dad was always your coach, right, So that for me,
- 23:47Speaker 1: even looking back now, it's like I wish I can
- 23:50Speaker 1: go back and have my dad there.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, that's that's really cool.
- 23:53Speaker 2: That was right in this That was something that like
- 23:56Speaker 2: because me and him, like I grew up, we were
- 24:01Speaker 2: talking about that, like he was always like, hey, when
- 24:03Speaker 2: you make it, you're gonna do the Hormer Derby, I'm
- 24:06Speaker 2: gonna pitch to you one day. That's and like we
- 24:08Speaker 2: talked about it in the backyard at my home, right
- 24:11Speaker 2: around the corner in the one hundred and ten degree heat,
- 24:14Speaker 2: like he's thrown to me, and we always talked about
- 24:16Speaker 2: doing that. And it's like I never really had a
- 24:19Speaker 2: desire to do the home, Like I don't know, I
- 24:22Speaker 2: just didn't really want to do it, but I was.
- 24:24Speaker 4: I was.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I told my dad, I was like, I'll do this
- 24:26Speaker 2: and I want you to pitch to me, and I'm
- 24:27Speaker 2: never gonna do it again. And it was just a
- 24:30Speaker 2: cool It was a cool experience because like we were
- 24:32Speaker 2: in the clubhouse together. He's has his own locker.
- 24:36Speaker 1: He's yeah time, Like Chris's dad was like the play
- 24:43Speaker 1: if I ever went to When I was really bad
- 24:46Speaker 1: in ruts, I would go to my dad my mom
- 24:49Speaker 1: and whenever they would tell me it would usually throw
- 24:51Speaker 1: me in a rage, but it would always work. So
- 24:53Speaker 1: like I did when I went to him, it was
- 24:55Speaker 1: like strategic because I knew it would work because they
- 24:58Speaker 1: always had like the good advice. By I didn't like it,
- 25:00Speaker 1: but I remember talking to your dad and he'd be like, oh,
- 25:02Speaker 1: someone's got to hit forty this year? Why is it?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Why I want to be you guys, Like he was
- 25:06Speaker 1: always so positive for someone who was also a little kookie, like, yeah,
- 25:13Speaker 1: you told me like you get thrown out of games
- 25:14Speaker 1: in little league.
- 25:15Speaker 2: And like he he was he was never once did
- 25:19Speaker 2: he yell at me when I played baseball. Not one
- 25:21Speaker 2: time ever. That's amazing, ever, and that like that's how
- 25:25Speaker 2: I'm going to he plays football now sports, right, but
- 25:32Speaker 2: like he never like said, we need to go out
- 25:34Speaker 2: and practice, we need to do this. It was always
- 25:35Speaker 2: like I wanted to do that, and like it's it's
- 25:40Speaker 2: like that's how I want to teach my kids too.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I don't want to yell at them about the game
- 25:43Speaker 2: of baseball, like because then they're never going to come back.
- 25:45Speaker 2: And that's right, right, it's gotta be fun. So it's
- 25:47Speaker 2: like he was always that guy for me. And it's
- 25:50Speaker 2: like you're talking about like when you're struggling, he would
- 25:53Speaker 2: talk to you, talk to your dad. I have so
- 25:55Speaker 2: many My dad knew when it was really bad to
- 25:59Speaker 2: just write me an email. Yeah I remember that, and
- 26:01Speaker 2: I read I would read something your.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Dad wrote you email.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Probably at least perspective too, Like he would like, go
- 26:09Speaker 1: around guy one of those, this guy Mookie Betts went
- 26:14Speaker 1: four for his last fifty and now look where his
- 26:16Speaker 1: numbers are at, or like kind of just putting you
- 26:19Speaker 1: back in like a realm perspector. Everyone is doing like
- 26:21Speaker 1: goes through this.
- 26:23Speaker 2: They're good. It's a hard game, and like I saved those,
- 26:28Speaker 2: I like I made sure and never delete those. I
- 26:30Speaker 2: start them all like they're all in, like like a
- 26:33Speaker 2: holder that says, like, Dad, that's awesome. You know. It's
- 26:35Speaker 2: like like I'll have that to basically copy and paste
- 26:38Speaker 2: through my key, and I know what I would know
- 26:40Speaker 2: what to say now, but like he just knew, like
- 26:43Speaker 2: because if I'm talking on the phone, like I'm not
- 26:45Speaker 2: going to like I said, I'm never going to remember
- 26:46Speaker 2: everything you say to me, but I'm gonna remember how
- 26:48Speaker 2: you made me feel and when it was bad, I
- 26:51Speaker 2: needed it in writing so that I can go back
- 26:52Speaker 2: to it and read it again when I'm bad. That's amazing,
- 26:55Speaker 2: you know, So I have so many He would be like,
- 26:57Speaker 2: pooh hoss two for the last twenty seven. That's a
- 26:59Speaker 2: future Hall of Famer. And he's like, you you got
- 27:02Speaker 2: nine homers over this span he's got three, Like you're
- 27:05Speaker 2: you're better than a Hall of famer like that, that's
- 27:07Speaker 2: Albert Pool, Like he's great, that's great. And I remember
- 27:12Speaker 2: before the five for five game, the three homer two
- 27:15Speaker 2: double game, like I was like, since since yeah, I
- 27:18Speaker 2: was like hitting like two.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I'll set three game with a homer.
- 27:22Speaker 2: But how about you again? Like two fifty seven, I
- 27:26Speaker 2: had like like thirteen homers and I'm like, Dad, it's
- 27:30Speaker 2: not good enough. You know, this isn't good enough. He's
- 27:32Speaker 2: like I remember talking him for the game, like I
- 27:35Speaker 2: need a big game. He's like, you're due. I was
- 27:37Speaker 2: like all right, and then I was, dude, I had
- 27:40Speaker 2: the best game of my life. And then he's just
- 27:42Speaker 2: like text me. He's like I told you yeah, to go,
- 27:46Speaker 2: Like he's just it's just like I don't know. He
- 27:50Speaker 2: didn't make it all the way like we have, but
- 27:52Speaker 2: like the wisdom that he gained from his time playing,
- 27:55Speaker 2: like he's he's helped a lot of people, especially me
- 27:59Speaker 2: in baseball, because that's amazing.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Just coaching too, and in general, like it's really we've
- 28:04Speaker 1: had probably over easily over one hundred and two hundred
- 28:09Speaker 1: coaches in our career and there's like a handful that
- 28:12Speaker 1: you can really take out.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Of all those coaches that helped you in that are.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Like wow, this one is like all of them have
- 28:18Speaker 1: helped some part along the way, but there's only a
- 28:20Speaker 1: handful where you're just like he made a huge well
- 28:23Speaker 1: and who knows.
- 28:24Speaker 4: You more better than your parents? They watched every pitch.
- 28:26Speaker 3: They watched that, you know what I mean, Like your
- 28:27Speaker 3: dad's been in the cage and watch you evolve and
- 28:30Speaker 3: go on your journey and like to go back to
- 28:32Speaker 3: those perspectives and him keeping it real is that's just
- 28:35Speaker 3: a power. That's a a great resource to have a
- 28:37Speaker 3: lot of people have. That's a blessing our parents too.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Mike Brian John Viza were two peas in a pod
- 28:43Speaker 1: like the Wrigley Field. I don't know if Wriggley Field
- 28:47Speaker 1: ushers or security hate to see them coming or love
- 28:49Speaker 1: to see him come, because they would just bounce all
- 28:51Speaker 1: over the walls. They they they had no credentials. They
- 28:54Speaker 1: just walked in like they own the place.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Every time. They might have more fun our time together
- 28:59Speaker 2: than we did.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Yeah, as they should, like.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Harmonica on the corner, like they were talking about like
- 29:07Speaker 2: getting like uh, renting out a bar like someone highing
- 29:11Speaker 2: them to perform again at the bar, Like Dad, you're
- 29:13Speaker 2: not doing You're not performing on the corner at ritty fields.
- 29:16Speaker 2: You know, I'm Dad. They're putting their like their guitar
- 29:22Speaker 2: thing out for begging for money and all that.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Like Dad, you can't do that, Like.
- 29:25Speaker 2: You're just but it's just it was a fun time
- 29:30Speaker 2: for them.
- 29:31Speaker 3: You look back on fifteen Rookie of the Year and
- 29:33Speaker 3: you're like, all right, it's a good start.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, we get swept in the Lcyes Rookie
- 29:42Speaker 2: of the Year. Where are you at well, So I
- 29:46Speaker 2: guess the two of those, for sure are separate. Like
- 29:49Speaker 2: being in the playoffs, like my first time, I'm just
- 29:51Speaker 2: like I had no clue what to expect. The crowds
- 29:54Speaker 2: are a little bit different. There's just a different feel,
- 29:56Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like it feels like the
- 29:58Speaker 2: grass is cut a little better, the dirt's a little
- 30:01Speaker 2: more and you know, it's right and brighter. The energy
- 30:04Speaker 2: is better, no doubt, the paint is fresh, the lines
- 30:06Speaker 2: are straighter.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Yeah, got new hoodies. Yeah, yeah, Like it was like swag.
- 30:11Speaker 2: It was like, yeah, like this is fun baseball like
- 30:15Speaker 2: that was. I just was going along for the ride there,
- 30:18Speaker 2: like I and none of us expected just to go
- 30:20Speaker 2: that far. So that was a good experience for me.
- 30:22Speaker 2: But and then during the season winning Rookie of the Year,
- 30:25Speaker 2: it was like, I remember when I got called up.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I was like, there's only one award you can win
- 30:31Speaker 2: in this game, and you can only do it in
- 30:33Speaker 2: one year, and that's the Rookie of the Year. And
- 30:37Speaker 2: I was like, that's a good goal, you know.
- 30:39Speaker 4: And so that was a goal you.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Set, absolutely, bro.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I always told every every single rookie that ever gets
- 30:46Speaker 1: called up, like, you only have one first pitch to
- 30:48Speaker 1: hit a home run in the big leagues. On I'm like,
- 30:50Speaker 1: it's up to you.
- 30:51Speaker 2: If you can try to, we'll see, Yeah, we'll see.
- 30:55Speaker 2: I probably that you probably didn't. Yeah. And back to
- 30:58Speaker 2: James Shields, like, oh for four three strikeouts and I
- 31:02Speaker 2: think I struck.
- 31:03Speaker 1: On remember too, And everyone was like what this is
- 31:06Speaker 1: who we called up?
- 31:07Speaker 2: James Shields had an ass. It's like a screwball run.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Later in your No was the All Star Game? No,
- 31:19Speaker 2: that was Chris Sale in the All Star Game.
- 31:20Speaker 3: That's I know what I wanted to ask, And this
- 31:22Speaker 3: is this is like for young kids watching and about approach.
- 31:26Speaker 3: I remember your first spring training and hitting on the
- 31:28Speaker 3: fields with you, and you're hitting homers over the batter's
- 31:32Speaker 3: eye like nobody's business.
- 31:33Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, this kid's ball just doesn't
- 31:35Speaker 2: come down.
- 31:36Speaker 3: And I asked you about what you're trying to do,
- 31:39Speaker 3: and VP said, I just want to hit high fly
- 31:41Speaker 3: balls to center field, high fight ball.
- 31:43Speaker 4: And in my mind I'm like, yeah.
- 31:45Speaker 3: No doubt because you hit them further and they never
- 31:47Speaker 3: come down, like great approach. But I had never heard that,
- 31:49Speaker 3: Like how did you get to that that kind of routine?
- 31:52Speaker 2: And BP, well, it goes back to just working with
- 31:55Speaker 2: my dad and just angles and and the game has
- 32:00Speaker 2: changed a lot since then. Right, Sure, a lot of
- 32:02Speaker 2: people are throwing the heaters at the top and I
- 32:04Speaker 2: had to adjust to that, which we could talk till later.
- 32:06Speaker 2: But like it was like everybody, the pitcher's releasing it
- 32:10Speaker 2: from here and it's coming down at an angle, so
- 32:12Speaker 2: you want your bat to come up with it and
- 32:14Speaker 2: hit it on the other plane, get on plane. So
- 32:16Speaker 2: it wasn't necessarily like hitting fly balls, just getting on
- 32:19Speaker 2: plane with it and it produced the ft.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Okay, you he put in my mind, he hit it
- 32:24Speaker 1: Bob's backside. You're that first spring trainer in fifteen far
- 32:28Speaker 1: than I could.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Pull the ball, and that's where my power was. Like
- 32:31Speaker 2: all through college and the miners was the right field.
- 32:34Speaker 2: But then you get to Wrigley and the winds. There's
- 32:37Speaker 2: no homers for righties to write now I feel there
- 32:40Speaker 2: in yeah, and I had to adjust, and everybody's throwing
- 32:42Speaker 2: me at sinkers insides or trying to get in on
- 32:44Speaker 2: my hands because I'm a long lever. So I was like,
- 32:47Speaker 2: I need to figure out how to pull the ball
- 32:49Speaker 2: without the top spin.
- 32:50Speaker 3: You know, I need to get it a lot of
- 32:53Speaker 3: topspin when you pull the ball early.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I remember that right, And I'd be so frustrated when
- 32:57Speaker 2: I was hitting top spin line drives and this and that,
- 33:00Speaker 2: and then my dad. I would always go to my
- 33:03Speaker 2: dad and I'm like, d why why am I top
- 33:06Speaker 2: spinning every ball? He's like, did you get a hit
- 33:08Speaker 2: on it? I'm like yeah, He's like, why are you complaining?
- 33:12Speaker 2: You know, Like that's how I That's how I think.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'm just I'm trying to be per breaking down everything,
- 33:16Speaker 2: like I just like a pitch inside that I think
- 33:19Speaker 2: I should have done more within the tops in line,
- 33:21Speaker 2: hard Sigle, Like, I just beat myself up over it, you.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Know, but I had that perfection can be positive and
- 33:26Speaker 3: negative you're talking about.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, when I remember, and I don't want to
- 33:30Speaker 1: forget this, the quote, but your dad was like comparing
- 33:33Speaker 1: everyone and stuff and like perspective. I remember you told
- 33:36Speaker 1: me this quote and I still use this day. Comparison
- 33:39Speaker 1: is the thief of all joy. Yep, yep, because when
- 33:41Speaker 1: you compare, try to compare yourself to be like someone
- 33:44Speaker 1: else or do something else, you're literally losing the joy
- 33:47Speaker 1: of why you're here, of being a kid, and like
- 33:50Speaker 1: that's everything in life, right, Like, no, it's speaking of joy.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Twenty sixteen spring training, we started the Grandpa Rossi account.
- 33:59Speaker 4: At dinner, We're like stake forty four, Yeah, stake forty four, and.
- 34:03Speaker 3: I'm giving you guys well because you guys were young
- 34:07Speaker 3: and hip and I'm like three news.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Your last year, right yeah, and you were so monumental
- 34:13Speaker 1: to me where I was at my career and instantly
- 34:17Speaker 1: for him, so coming in it was like we wanted
- 34:20Speaker 1: to celebrate you, right ye. And we're coming in to
- 34:24Speaker 1: sixteen like the Brizo Souvenir Co. We're doing commercials like
- 34:28Speaker 1: I felt like we were like player one and two
- 34:31Speaker 1: in the big leagues at the time, right like it
- 34:32Speaker 1: was we were like rock stars. Honestly, Yeah, so we're
- 34:36Speaker 1: doing these commercials. We're celebrating you. It's just like the
- 34:39Speaker 1: overall vibes. But the Grandpa Rossi account, I guess they're
- 34:43Speaker 1: elevated your career.
- 34:45Speaker 2: It's made me some money. So that's why I've definitely
- 34:48Speaker 2: done that well.
- 34:49Speaker 3: And then I got we had that conversation at dinner
- 34:51Speaker 3: where we're kind of making fun of You're like, we
- 34:53Speaker 3: got to remember KB going you know what, I almost
- 34:54Speaker 3: start you an Instagram account, and then sure enough, the
- 34:57Speaker 3: next morning he shows it to me. He's like, hey,
- 34:59Speaker 3: you've got thirty thousand followers. It's like in however many
- 35:03Speaker 3: it's not even be twenty four hours. And then we
- 35:05Speaker 3: started making big gym started making all those things, and
- 35:08Speaker 3: now I got half a million.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Crazy though, those are the things that helped you knelt through.
- 35:13Speaker 3: The people call they know me when I walked through
- 35:15Speaker 3: around really say hey Grandpa, hey Grandpa.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Ye like it's like hilarious, people.
- 35:19Speaker 2: I've got you, I've got like and in the moment,
- 35:23Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm calling this guy grandpa and he's like
- 35:25Speaker 2: thirty six, like to you, yeah, yeah, no.
- 35:30Speaker 3: That's just but it's like it's an endearing thing because
- 35:32Speaker 3: it reminds me of going back to that and I
- 35:34Speaker 3: was the I was like the dad of the team.
- 35:36Speaker 4: You know, I played once a week. I was like
- 35:38Speaker 4: doing the lesser thing and just trying to be along
- 35:40Speaker 4: for the ride with the boys.
- 35:41Speaker 1: You know, like you were the ultimate mentor Yeah, for sure,
- 35:44Speaker 1: that's not you were, I know, were the ultimate perspective.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Like well, winning in Boston helped me have like this
- 35:50Speaker 3: perspective of like, man, it's just about bringing your lunch
- 35:52Speaker 3: paal to work every single day with the boys and
- 35:54Speaker 3: going to work right, like there's no there's no glamour
- 35:57Speaker 3: in like the glamor comes after the perform moments of
- 36:00Speaker 3: winning and all that stuff.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Like you just got to get in there and like
- 36:03Speaker 4: believe in yourself.
- 36:04Speaker 1: And because when I remember when I would be frustrated
- 36:06Speaker 1: with the team and stuff, I would talk to you
- 36:07Speaker 1: and you'd be like, no, we're fine. We just like
- 36:10Speaker 1: look like they just missed a couple of spots and
- 36:12Speaker 1: the pictures aren't like or the hitters, like we got
- 36:14Speaker 1: to get back to grinding that bats and see it.
- 36:16Speaker 1: And every time you said that, I was like, all right,
- 36:19Speaker 1: you made me feel so much better about like the
- 36:22Speaker 1: whole team grinding.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Yeah, because we learned the small victories I think, and
- 36:25Speaker 3: like success, it's like just stay to the pitch to
- 36:28Speaker 3: pitch and those little like you know, yeah we started slumping.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Everybody's up there swinging the first.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Pitch, like, yeah, when I gonna get out of it
- 36:33Speaker 3: because you're you know, like you got.
- 36:35Speaker 4: To have your bats and let this thing evolve.
- 36:37Speaker 3: And you know, we all have these philosophies on winning
- 36:40Speaker 3: and stuff, but like the stuff I've learned was like
- 36:43Speaker 3: it's really the small fundamental details every single day and
- 36:48Speaker 3: trying to get everybody to buy into just back that concentration,
- 36:51Speaker 3: having some fun, not beating yourself up. You know what
- 36:53Speaker 3: the other guy gave us, Like only give up two
- 36:57Speaker 3: hits today and we got beat by a great pitch
- 36:59Speaker 3: before it's like move on, you know what I mean,
- 37:02Speaker 3: Like we didn't beat ourselves. I was a big one,
- 37:04Speaker 3: like if we don't beat ourselves, like the other team
- 37:07Speaker 3: beats us, they just come back the next day, like
- 37:09Speaker 3: we start beating yourselves.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Those are bad teams, you know, losing games that you
- 37:12Speaker 4: should win.
- 37:12Speaker 1: And to what I loved about us is like I
- 37:17Speaker 1: wanted to be better than you and you want to
- 37:20Speaker 1: be better than me. But it wasn't like rooting for
- 37:23Speaker 1: anyone's downfall. No, it was like this healthy like competition.
- 37:27Speaker 1: And I remember distinctively going to the All Star game, right,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and we're in a rut going into the All Star
- 37:33Speaker 1: sixteen sixteen, and I went, like, I'm not kidding, I
- 37:37Speaker 1: went like ten for my last twelve going to the break.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I went from like two eighty to two ninety nine
- 37:41Speaker 1: at the break, right, and we're all in the outfield
- 37:44Speaker 1: and we're all talking, like all the Cubs guys, and
- 37:48Speaker 1: Harold Reynolds comes up to me says, hey, Riz, how
- 37:50Speaker 1: you doing, man, Like good to see it, and he
- 37:52Speaker 1: goes right to KBN. Like at our time, our numbers
- 37:55Speaker 1: were like nearly identical, Like I don't know who's was better, honestly, man,
- 38:00Speaker 1: you're doing this year. It's so good to see you.
- 38:05Speaker 1: And I'll never forget. I'm just sitting there, okay, okay, okay, yeah, give.
- 38:10Speaker 3: A little handy to the young guy, I'm like, god, damn, bro,
- 38:13Speaker 3: I'm on like, goddag bro.
- 38:17Speaker 5: That.
- 38:17Speaker 1: But like that's another beauty of like the whole Brizzo thing.
- 38:20Speaker 2: It was like it was never hostile. It was just
- 38:22Speaker 2: like you made me.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Better like every day.
- 38:25Speaker 2: So you probably hated when I first got called up
- 38:28Speaker 2: and we were at Gibson's remember this, Oh my god,
- 38:31Speaker 2: we were we were with Lundie, right. It was either
- 38:35Speaker 2: just me and you or when you went to dinner
- 38:36Speaker 2: on like the first off day or lunch. It was
- 38:38Speaker 2: lunch and someone comes up to me. It's like hey, Chris,
- 38:41Speaker 2: like congrats, like you know, welcome to Chicago, Like can
- 38:45Speaker 2: I get a picture with you? And I'm like sure, yeah,
- 38:47Speaker 2: and he hands the phone the Brizz.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Like, well, that's my gus walking around Las Vegas yesterday.
- 38:55Speaker 3: It's like fifteen selfies for this guy. And some guy
- 38:57Speaker 3: gets to the elevators like, oh my god, Anthony Rizzo,
- 39:00Speaker 3: Oh my god, and they're like in there for fifteen minutes.
- 39:02Speaker 4: We get up to our floor and I walk out.
- 39:04Speaker 4: He's like, oh hey, Rossie.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Like but that's like what also.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Made our team so good was like that, like we
- 39:12Speaker 1: all wanted to like perform, Yeah, because like any any
- 39:16Speaker 1: given day, someone's going off and you were going with
- 39:19Speaker 1: the best of them, and sure.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Like, yeah, it was obviously the best year of my career,
- 39:23Speaker 2: but it wasn't.
- 39:23Speaker 1: You know, it wasn't just me and I don't know,
- 39:26Speaker 1: seven teams.
- 39:26Speaker 2: I think you can say by War it wasn't or whatever.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Well let's talk about that.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Like that reminds me like you played great third base,
- 39:35Speaker 3: but we moved Hobby in there and you moved like
- 39:37Speaker 3: with Shwar were going down, like we had all that
- 39:39Speaker 3: stuff happen.
- 39:40Speaker 1: You were like team the ultimate. You're the greatest utility
- 39:42Speaker 1: player of all time.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Ah, that's Ben.
- 39:45Speaker 4: So yeah, I got me. Ben set the standard.
- 39:47Speaker 2: You were the best, yeah version.
- 39:49Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Like the fact that you can go play left. You
- 39:52Speaker 1: played center that year, didn't you. Yeah, you played right.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Game fourth or fifth game in the row, and we
- 39:57Speaker 2: were elite at every.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Sneaking, sneaky inside job.
- 40:01Speaker 3: When I got the manager your job, I wanted to
- 40:02Speaker 3: move you to center and just play center all the time,
- 40:04Speaker 3: and THEO wouldn't let me.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Really sneaky, yeah, yeah, Like I was, dude, I just
- 40:09Speaker 4: like you take like five steps and cover the hole.
- 40:12Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, it's like a it's not just like
- 40:14Speaker 3: a slow twitch version of like decks, you know what
- 40:16Speaker 3: I mean. Like he got that long gliding like you're saying, thing,
- 40:19Speaker 3: you cover ships on the ground, you're so big yeah
- 40:21Speaker 3: for me.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Like I don't, I don't know. Joe came up to
- 40:25Speaker 2: me in my like my fifth game, I think we're
- 40:27Speaker 2: in Pittsburgh. He's like, hey, can you play center field?
- 40:29Speaker 2: I'm like, I wasn't gonna say no, you know, of.
- 40:32Speaker 4: Course you do something like sure.
- 40:35Speaker 2: So it was like I went out there and played
- 40:37Speaker 2: center field. I might have got a couple of fly
- 40:39Speaker 2: balls and then uh, and then it just kind of
- 40:41Speaker 2: took off and Joe was like, all I'm going to
- 40:42Speaker 2: put to your here here And I was like, all right,
- 40:44Speaker 2: all right.
- 40:44Speaker 1: You love that though I did, Yeah, it kept me.
- 40:47Speaker 1: It kept me like you know, you guys don't like it, no,
- 40:49Speaker 1: but you I remember, you get me.
- 40:51Speaker 2: More engaged, you know, like I never like if you're
- 40:54Speaker 2: just batting second and playing third every day, you're kind
- 40:56Speaker 2: of it's one hundred sixty games season. You're kind of
- 40:59Speaker 2: getting a low. You're like, and I'm just going through
- 41:01Speaker 2: the motions. But like Joe would have me start in
- 41:04Speaker 2: the game and the left and then I had to
- 41:05Speaker 2: come in and play third, and then you know it's
- 41:07Speaker 2: moving me all. I mean I played first a couple
- 41:09Speaker 2: of times and you had the day off, which wasn't
- 41:12Speaker 2: many times, but yeah, I just I don't know, I
- 41:14Speaker 2: embraced it and it was fun while that last.
- 41:17Speaker 3: One sixty one in sixteen sixty one sixty one Yeah, okay,
- 41:22Speaker 3: yeah about you just make sure we.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Can in the day you had off wasn't or you
- 41:27Speaker 2: had a day off when Lester was pitching. I had
- 41:29Speaker 2: a few days off. I think I got in a
- 41:30Speaker 2: couple of games pitch. Yeah, yeah, I remember that Lesson
- 41:34Speaker 2: He's good.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Picked Lesser's Lester and Lackey is like funny, like as
- 41:37Speaker 3: much as I love those guys and got two rings
- 41:39Speaker 3: because of them and you guys, but like the.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Day ran behind Mary Dave, they they're intimidating, like they.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Like you better bring it there day. I think that's
- 41:47Speaker 4: where I got my anger from on my day where
- 41:49Speaker 4: I played. It's like I'm gonna we're not losing them
- 41:51Speaker 4: my day.
- 41:53Speaker 1: John John, I don't know if it was John or Joe,
- 41:55Speaker 1: but it was basically demanding Hobby play third because John
- 41:58Speaker 1: always got ground balls that cut her in right. Yeah,
- 42:00Speaker 1: So yeah, if when KB played third with Lester, you
- 42:04Speaker 1: it was like you knew John was already on edge because.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I know we didn't no, but no, there's something I was.
- 42:13Speaker 2: I wasn't scared, but I was like, I didn't want
- 42:15Speaker 2: to let them down, right, Yeah, that's the thing.
- 42:16Speaker 4: You don't let it get.
- 42:17Speaker 2: You know, John's throwing cutters in a lot of the time,
- 42:20Speaker 2: and a lot of you don't know if he leaves
- 42:22Speaker 2: one out over, they're gonna smoke one at you or
- 42:25Speaker 2: they jam you like you never it's gonna be a
- 42:27Speaker 2: slow roller, it's gonna be a hot shot. It's like.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Probably the product of it.
- 42:32Speaker 3: It's like I wanted Hobby at second base field and
- 42:33Speaker 3: every ball I threw down because he was a freaking
- 42:35Speaker 3: wizard down there, and like he'd get in there. You
- 42:37Speaker 3: know those one guys give the alligator arm. I've played
- 42:39Speaker 3: with on other teams. You're like, you know, come on, guy,
- 42:42Speaker 3: ressed your life for everybody one put out.
- 42:45Speaker 2: It's just how you used your competitive nature coming out,
- 42:47Speaker 2: you know what.
- 42:48Speaker 1: You know what I love too when we did bump defenses,
- 42:51Speaker 1: like with the picture bunting. It got to a point
- 42:55Speaker 1: literally where Chris and I would just look at each
- 42:56Speaker 1: other and just be like, no, we knew exactly, like
- 43:00Speaker 1: if the ball was super hard at him, or like
- 43:03Speaker 1: he knew what I was doing and it wasn't like
- 43:04Speaker 1: I had to tell him.
- 43:05Speaker 2: He just knew. Yeah, And it was like it was
- 43:07Speaker 2: a cheek. It was a cheat code.
- 43:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that play it was a cheat code.
- 43:10Speaker 3: We we they like it was like how good he
- 43:13Speaker 3: was at first base coming in Like, yeah, it kind
- 43:16Speaker 3: of negated a lot of that I want to I
- 43:18Speaker 3: want to go.
- 43:19Speaker 4: We brought this up, but like Rizzo's three to oher statue.
- 43:23Speaker 2: When you're in the infield, remember that.
- 43:27Speaker 1: He's the only one who would give us a little
- 43:30Speaker 1: bit of a fit about it.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Yeah, because the one time they hit the ball or swing,
- 43:36Speaker 2: we never got burned on it. I don't care now.
- 43:38Speaker 2: One time over we were.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Talking about that with Addie, who was like he was
- 43:43Speaker 3: just like, yeah, man, we was just like our little
- 43:45Speaker 3: game at Risks, like looking at everybody just just.
- 43:47Speaker 1: So on hands on the knees on three ozero counts
- 43:50Speaker 1: when we're playing defense, I would whistle over to everyone
- 43:55Speaker 1: right and I would just widen my stance and anchor down,
- 43:58Speaker 1: and no matter what happened on that pitch, I was
- 44:00Speaker 1: not moving. I wasn't getting ready for the pitch because
- 44:03Speaker 1: you knew the battle was taking and the whole infield
- 44:06Speaker 1: started doing it. It was a unity thing, and you
- 44:09Speaker 1: did it.
- 44:09Speaker 2: I would say the time, yeah, but I wasn't good
- 44:14Speaker 2: enough of it in field.
- 44:16Speaker 1: The time he didn't do it, we'd all be looking
- 44:18Speaker 1: over the glovers, Yeah you're doing And when he did
- 44:22Speaker 1: do we getting like the little golf clap.
- 44:24Speaker 2: We'd all give a little golf cluber.
- 44:25Speaker 3: I hate it, but yeah, those are things within the
- 44:28Speaker 3: game that No, that's his personality coming out.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I'm a perfectionist I wanted to be, which sucks, but
- 44:34Speaker 2: that's what That's.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Another thing too, though, like you gotta try to have
- 44:38Speaker 1: that enjoy the moment you take.
- 44:41Speaker 2: We got burned, and even if I didn't do it,
- 44:44Speaker 2: in my head, I'm like, this is fun, like.
- 44:46Speaker 1: The playoffs, Like I still did that in the playoffs,
- 44:49Speaker 1: you know, when a guy's swinging it right, Like probably
- 44:52Speaker 1: I never got burned on it, so I guess I
- 44:54Speaker 1: could talk about it. If I did get burned on
- 44:56Speaker 1: it would be a different story probably wouldn't telling it,
- 44:58Speaker 1: but it's different.
- 44:58Speaker 2: When you're playing first. You just have to feel the
- 45:00Speaker 2: ball and touch the bag. I have to feel it
- 45:03Speaker 2: and throw it you.
- 45:03Speaker 1: It's a good point.
- 45:04Speaker 3: We got to get to, uh get to clenching, clinching
- 45:09Speaker 3: in sixteen, go into the postseason. You've had a great year.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Both you guys had great years. What was that when
- 45:18Speaker 3: we can't when when we finally clenched? Did you ever
- 45:21Speaker 3: picture us winning the World Series?
- 45:24Speaker 2: Well? I think the thing that year that was so
- 45:26Speaker 2: unique about that was that I think we kind of
- 45:30Speaker 2: expected to in a way like we would always training.
- 45:35Speaker 2: We would always talk about like remember the conversations we
- 45:37Speaker 2: have we be like, do when we win it this year?
- 45:39Speaker 2: Like they're gonna have to helicopter us off the field.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Remember that they didn't have to, but damn they almost.
- 45:46Speaker 2: When we went to the World Series, the party at
- 45:49Speaker 2: Regally and I'll see us, it's like we won the
- 45:51Speaker 2: World Series. When we advanced, did we talk about that
- 45:54Speaker 2: all the time or like remember like I just for
- 45:57Speaker 2: me personally, like Travis would always beyond me, like dude,
- 46:01Speaker 2: you gotta drink if we win the World Tours.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember it and we liked years.
- 46:07Speaker 2: We're talking a team throughout the whole year, like we're
- 46:10Speaker 2: going on winning streaks, and he's just like to take
- 46:13Speaker 2: care what he said he would drink. You did say it.
- 46:16Speaker 1: I did say that. And we would take shots after sweeps.
- 46:19Speaker 1: We sometimes take some shots before the games or whatnot.
- 46:22Speaker 1: KB would always have you there, like with this little
- 46:23Speaker 1: water shot.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Yep, I love I was.
- 46:26Speaker 4: You get a favorite game from sixteen? Well, favorite moment?
- 46:31Speaker 3: What's it like you look back or the games you
- 46:33Speaker 3: tell your buddies about, I mean the person the five
- 46:38Speaker 3: or five games out, but like in the playoffs, like.
- 46:44Speaker 2: There's it. It kind of it's kind of weird, right
- 46:47Speaker 2: because like you forget a lot over ten years, right,
- 46:50Speaker 2: Like it's that's why we're doing this. It's just that
- 46:53Speaker 2: you guys, and a lot of stuff is coming back
- 46:55Speaker 2: to me. But like, I don't know, I think my
- 46:59Speaker 2: favorite one in the playoffs for me probably been the
- 47:02Speaker 2: game five, like the Homer time the game just because
- 47:05Speaker 2: I told you guys last night too, what I was going.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Through before that might like sure, well, that's why I
- 47:09Speaker 3: was going to bring that up. Like your mom, You're
- 47:10Speaker 3: able to your mom in the hospital all night yeah.
- 47:12Speaker 2: She I don't know what it was. Yeah, she had
- 47:15Speaker 2: some type of like upper respiratory thing. And I'm sure
- 47:18Speaker 2: a lot of people's families were because they were with
- 47:20Speaker 2: us the grind of yeah. So it's like, dude, they're
- 47:23Speaker 2: screaming in the stands like it's cold. Like yeah. So
- 47:26Speaker 2: my mom was sick and she's just like I need
- 47:29Speaker 2: to I need to I need to go get something.
- 47:31Speaker 2: So we went to like the er Urgent Carrot Northwestern
- 47:33Speaker 2: at like five in the morning, and I was there
- 47:35Speaker 2: till like seven in the morning with my mom and
- 47:38Speaker 2: we had that was before Game five four.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Game five, we're down three to one, yeah, but we're
- 47:42Speaker 1: about to lose the world.
- 47:43Speaker 2: And like in my mind, I'm like, like you want
- 47:46Speaker 2: to say you believe that you were a comptent. We're
- 47:48Speaker 2: down three one, like it's going to be really hard,
- 47:50Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Yeah, And I was like
- 47:53Speaker 2: I'm going to be there for my mom, like she's
- 47:55Speaker 2: not feeling good. So I stayed there till seven, I
- 47:57Speaker 2: think six in the morning. Maybe it was like right
- 47:59Speaker 2: around Halloween. I think it was a Saturday. Everybody's in
- 48:02Speaker 2: the er urgent care with their like costumes on there
- 48:06Speaker 2: so many parties, and I'm like, I could have fit
- 48:08Speaker 2: right in if I just came in my uniform too,
- 48:09Speaker 2: but I just had my hood on my hat down
- 48:13Speaker 2: and I'm just sitting there and I'm like and I
- 48:15Speaker 2: was huge, Like it goes back to my personality being
- 48:17Speaker 2: like perfect, and I was like my nine hours. Yeah,
- 48:21Speaker 2: KB was not hooting with the owls Now, I'm like,
- 48:23Speaker 2: I want to go to Like I probably got seven
- 48:26Speaker 2: hours six hours leep that night, but I slept till
- 48:28Speaker 2: like two thirty three, went to the field and I
- 48:31Speaker 2: had the biggest home run in my life. Probably.
- 48:33Speaker 1: I feel like there's a couple of mom that's one
- 48:35Speaker 1: of the biggest home runs of like one of the
- 48:37Speaker 1: most underrated home runs of the whole World Series. Because
- 48:41Speaker 1: we were losing in the fourth inning, Trevor Bowers shoving,
- 48:44Speaker 1: shoving right and we're down three.
- 48:46Speaker 2: One went falling in, howling in.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Everyone is starting to get tight, like we owned, there's
- 48:53Speaker 1: only a certain amount of house left and we're down
- 48:55Speaker 1: right on elimination. Yeah, you hit that homer, And it
- 49:00Speaker 1: was like everyone was like the whole stadium we lost
- 49:04Speaker 1: the first two games there, the whole stadium erupted right
- 49:07Speaker 1: and like that inning, right the very next pitch, I
- 49:10Speaker 1: hit a ball off the wall in right center freaking
- 49:13Speaker 1: win dated, but I thought I clipped them too, like
- 49:16Speaker 1: back to back. But we ended up scoring three runs
- 49:18Speaker 1: and you started that and it's like we won that
- 49:20Speaker 1: game and I got the last RB. I get the
- 49:23Speaker 1: RB they walked, Hobby, and I guess three runs in
- 49:25Speaker 1: the fourth inning that we won that game three to
- 49:27Speaker 1: two and you're out till.
- 49:30Speaker 2: Yeah, game, I think you have this, Like.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Your World Series home runs were some of the biggest
- 49:42Speaker 3: home runs that don't get talked about, like some of
- 49:44Speaker 3: the like like there's some big ones and obviously like
- 49:47Speaker 3: when you recap and you're watching, Yeah, I don't know.
- 49:51Speaker 2: I feel like you don't play the game for that
- 49:56Speaker 2: type of recognition.
- 49:57Speaker 3: No, no, no, I just mean as a team, like yeah,
- 49:59Speaker 3: but like it's like mag he's hit to give us
- 50:00Speaker 3: the extra run.
- 50:02Speaker 4: Nobody talks about that.
- 50:03Speaker 3: It's like, you know, they talk about all these other
- 50:05Speaker 3: things just because the narrative and how it goes.
- 50:07Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, I guess the homers, Like for me
- 50:12Speaker 2: personally in the World Series, like I was more proud
- 50:14Speaker 2: of the base running, Like, bro, you're the best by far.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Hands down the best basement I've ever played with and
- 50:20Speaker 1: arguably the best part of your His base running was elite.
- 50:24Speaker 3: But we talked when I manage, you were talking about
- 50:25Speaker 3: I want to score that, Like I never heard one
- 50:28Speaker 3: hundred runs.
- 50:28Speaker 4: I want to score a hundred runs.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Yeah, because he taught you that, right hensk or who
- 50:32Speaker 1: said that, Like I want to score a hundred runs.
- 50:36Speaker 2: I don't really know. I think for me it was
- 50:38Speaker 2: just always a goal of mine. But I felt like
- 50:40Speaker 2: I had more control of that than the RBIs. RBIs
- 50:44Speaker 2: is obviously the more sexy stat like, of course one
- 50:46Speaker 2: hundred it's amazing, But like I just like when I
- 50:50Speaker 2: got on base for you, like on first base, I
- 50:52Speaker 2: was like, I just want to give the best effort
- 50:54Speaker 2: for you to get that.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Man, you probably scored twenty thirty percent of my RB
- 51:01Speaker 1: eyes when we play it.
- 51:02Speaker 3: And the thing about your games I love that comes
- 51:04Speaker 3: out in the World Series is like you're funding your
- 51:06Speaker 3: passion on the when you're running like that and you're
- 51:09Speaker 3: running hard and then you slide and you're safe. There's
- 51:11Speaker 3: a couple where it's like play at the play you're saying,
- 51:13Speaker 3: you come over and you're pumping it and.
- 51:15Speaker 2: You're like, fuck, gabies pumped, you know, like that that's yeah.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I mean I was off with the pitch on that obviously.
- 51:22Speaker 2: I think it was three to two count. I was
- 51:23Speaker 2: running on the pitch, but scoring me first on a
- 51:25Speaker 2: single and seven.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I was as bullshit though it should have
- 51:29Speaker 1: been a double because I was going no matter what,
- 51:30Speaker 1: ye a single, I gotta hit.
- 51:32Speaker 4: Off Andrew Miller too.
- 51:33Speaker 2: But then the sack fly that Addy hit right to
- 51:37Speaker 2: Roger Davis and centerfield, Like no way, I should have
- 51:40Speaker 2: been running. No, Like that was a deep fly to shortstop.
- 51:44Speaker 2: And Jones's at third He's like he's like he wasn't
- 51:48Speaker 2: saying anything, and I'm like, okay, what am I doing?
- 51:50Speaker 2: Like all right, am I going? I'm going, and he's
- 51:52Speaker 2: like last thing, He's like, oh, I was like all right,
- 51:54Speaker 2: I'm off, Like and like that was just me when
- 51:56Speaker 2: I was on the base path, like I just wanted
- 51:58Speaker 2: to run as fast as I can. Yeah, at all moments,
- 52:01Speaker 2: I like, even to this day, like I can safely
- 52:04Speaker 2: say that anytime I've hit a ground ball in my
- 52:06Speaker 2: BA lead career, like I've never taken it off. I
- 52:10Speaker 2: just tried to run a stars because one, I'm pissed
- 52:12Speaker 2: that I just hit a ground ball, and two like.
- 52:14Speaker 3: That would be something too, like him and j are
- 52:17Speaker 3: my two favorite base runners. I saw Jay had a
- 52:19Speaker 3: young age too in Atlanta.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I said so much like this is just me being jealous,
- 52:24Speaker 1: but being a righty and like rolling over a ball
- 52:27Speaker 1: in the hole, he could beat it out.
- 52:29Speaker 2: I roll over a ball in the hole.
- 52:31Speaker 1: I'm out. And I would say for years like this
- 52:33Speaker 1: is a right handed hitters, game.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Bro, like you would until they band this, until they.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Ban the shift because a lefty rolls a ball. I
- 52:40Speaker 1: had a missile one hopper, the the right field, the
- 52:44Speaker 1: nickel back and right field right because they're playing prevent
- 52:48Speaker 1: defense and the writings do that and they get hits.
- 52:51Speaker 1: And he was so fast. We get those hits. I
- 52:52Speaker 1: was like, damn man, like I was just a little faster.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Yeah, would never pass. I'm not a fast guy.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I just you had I took a big strip.
- 53:00Speaker 2: You had speed, You're like game speed you were, Yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 2: I would. Yeah.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Just let's talk batting practice. We got some good a
- 53:06Speaker 3: good story batting practice for the World Series.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we well we didn't take VP in the World Series.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Me and KB I did one day is one day,
- 53:14Speaker 1: one day, and the one day he goes out there.
- 53:16Speaker 1: The reason why he didn't take VP is because it
- 53:19Speaker 1: was a soap opera out there. Cameras are everywhere, people
- 53:23Speaker 1: are trying to talk to you. It's just like we're
- 53:26Speaker 1: at game one basically like almost ninety like we don't
- 53:30Speaker 1: need VP, We're ready. Yeah, like you just don't want
- 53:32Speaker 1: to talk and we just don't want Yeah, we just
- 53:34Speaker 1: don't want the noise, right, I remember us talking.
- 53:36Speaker 2: So he goes out, what were game six? It might
- 53:39Speaker 2: have been six? Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely was. Oh no,
- 53:44Speaker 2: I think it was game seven. It might have been
- 53:45Speaker 2: game seven because like you're like, oh, I gotta go
- 53:48Speaker 2: take BP's Game seven in the World Series.
- 53:51Speaker 4: I did not.
- 53:51Speaker 2: We had that whole bussy round.
- 53:53Speaker 4: Yeah that was like fun. So yeah, I think a
- 53:55Speaker 4: lot of people were out there for game seven.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Let's talk about Buzzy being the MVP of the team.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Storry you the best. Yeah, but yeah, he goes out
- 54:03Speaker 2: t BP taking b font our VP picture like one
- 54:09Speaker 2: of the best, Right, you have a lot of six
- 54:13Speaker 2: seven years he got the thing. He I mean he
- 54:19Speaker 2: was he was grooving. I mean he'd groove a couple
- 54:21Speaker 2: and then he'd throw like two like down away like
- 54:23Speaker 2: cutters and cutters. I'm like attle alligator arm and we
- 54:26Speaker 2: were not he's a little nervous. I'm like, yeah, I'm
- 54:28Speaker 2: a little nervous too, It's normal. And then zings want
- 54:30Speaker 2: right up and in it's my shoulder, and then that's it,
- 54:35Speaker 2: and then I've died. And then I'm like, all right,
- 54:38Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna walk out.
- 54:39Speaker 4: That's when you're in the big leagues. You're livid.
- 54:41Speaker 3: Like we were telling a story about Bussy trying to
- 54:44Speaker 3: do rehab stuff in the middle of my batting practice.
- 54:47Speaker 4: I'm like, get out of here. I'm trying to lock
- 54:49Speaker 4: you up.
- 54:50Speaker 1: When we were taking VP, we're such DeVos, like if
- 54:52Speaker 1: that ball is in center center, I'm literally eyeing him saying,
- 54:55Speaker 1: what the fuck are you doing?
- 54:56Speaker 3: Like yeah, like you're gonna be a devon certain stuff
- 54:59Speaker 3: when you're gett ready.
- 55:00Speaker 2: So he hits me and then short story story, he
- 55:03Speaker 2: can he can throw me VP ever again, Yeah, he goes.
- 55:07Speaker 1: You know what I look back at and like love
- 55:10Speaker 1: to think about is one hundred and eight year curse.
- 55:15Speaker 1: All this pressure right, Like you have so much history
- 55:18Speaker 1: of Chicago. We're game seven of the World ties really
- 55:21Speaker 1: every game in Cleveland, and like the main guys are
- 55:26Speaker 1: just sitting there playing Mario Kart before the game, like
- 55:29Speaker 1: that was our pre game.
- 55:30Speaker 4: Like you were two decks and then like rotate in.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and like I just look back, like you and
- 55:37Speaker 1: me are just literally just allright, Oh, it's forty five
- 55:41Speaker 1: minutes before the game. I'm gonna go get rested a
- 55:43Speaker 1: couple of stretches.
- 55:44Speaker 3: I was the old guy that was like stressed out,
- 55:46Speaker 3: Like these kids aren't focused.
- 55:48Speaker 4: This is my last better be ready for locking in.
- 55:53Speaker 2: This is seven, this is my life.
- 55:54Speaker 4: He's doing the rocky naked naked dances.
- 55:57Speaker 2: I've seen way too many of your crevices. Yeah, we'll
- 56:02Speaker 2: never do that again, but sometimes that's what that's what
- 56:05Speaker 2: made it seem good, is that we could be in
- 56:08Speaker 2: the most important game of our lives and you bring
- 56:11Speaker 2: us together. Let's play Mario Kart.
- 56:14Speaker 4: Let's that's your leader. His leadership gift is so much uh.
- 56:18Speaker 3: And it's like if you go to dinner with him,
- 56:20Speaker 3: if you go to a charity function, if you go
- 56:23Speaker 3: out with him, we're playing like your gift you make
- 56:27Speaker 3: everybody have a good time. I've always said, like everybody
- 56:29Speaker 3: has fun, you're having a good time too, But Dexter's
- 56:33Speaker 3: got some of that, right, Like you're gonna make sure
- 56:35Speaker 3: everybody else is good even though you may internally be stressed.
- 56:40Speaker 4: You're you relax with yeah, and others relax.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Yeah, like you guys letting me be that, Like I
- 56:48Speaker 1: would hit naked from time to time, so you're saying
- 56:51Speaker 1: with the crevices, and like for me it would be
- 56:54Speaker 1: like I feel I would always say I'm so free,
- 56:56Speaker 1: I'm so free, right, but then literally.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Get bad practice in practice would be flipping in the case.
- 57:03Speaker 1: See the difference, Yeah, see the difference, the difference, and
- 57:06Speaker 1: like it would be a funny thing where like the
- 57:08Speaker 1: guys would come and just start dying laughing, And for
- 57:11Speaker 1: me it would relax me.
- 57:12Speaker 2: So I'd get into the game.
- 57:13Speaker 1: I'd be like, oh, I'm so free, right, and then
- 57:15Speaker 1: before game seven, I'm I'm dancing there to the rocket
- 57:18Speaker 1: song and so.
- 57:20Speaker 2: But it's it's like, look, we've were prepared, we're ready
- 57:22Speaker 2: to go.
- 57:23Speaker 1: We have our routines, like this is what we believed worked,
- 57:28Speaker 1: and us playing Mario if we didn't play Mario Car
- 57:30Speaker 1: before game seven, we're not winning Game seven, like it
- 57:33Speaker 1: kind of locked us in like competitively because those were
- 57:35Speaker 1: intense games.
- 57:37Speaker 4: Yeah, we gotta get smashed by Nintendo.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Those those games.
- 57:43Speaker 4: Those games.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I think I was playing third base in the World
- 57:48Speaker 2: Series like so many Like I remember Napoli hit me
- 57:53Speaker 2: a line drive that I didn't even see off the bat,
- 57:56Speaker 2: no clue, Like it was almost a short hop I
- 57:59Speaker 2: caught in the air. I remember catching that ball, and
- 58:01Speaker 2: I'm like, I did not see that ball. I had
- 58:04Speaker 2: no who I caught that ball, Like the game Game
- 58:07Speaker 2: bro like game one or two, it was just like
- 58:09Speaker 2: your body like over, like took over, like imber Game one.
- 58:12Speaker 2: How cold. It was crazy. Like there's so many things
- 58:17Speaker 2: now that we're talking that are coming back to me.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Now that game six you hit it the another again.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Game five you start the rally, Game six, you start
- 58:25Speaker 1: the rally. We end up boat racing in game six.
- 58:28Speaker 1: But like these are we don't win those games. Obviously
- 58:31Speaker 1: we can't get to games and what you broke we're
- 58:33Speaker 1: about to talk about. But like again, that's why I
- 58:36Speaker 1: go back.
- 58:36Speaker 4: You would give us breathing room and like breaking the seal.
- 58:38Speaker 1: When you did that, it was like, oh here, we
- 58:40Speaker 1: go yeah, because like that's our best that's our best player,
- 58:43Speaker 1: and like when our best player does the best thing,
- 58:45Speaker 1: then everyone else.
- 58:45Speaker 4: Can like, yeah, all right, we got the lead.
- 58:48Speaker 2: Here we go yeah, and that was so nice doing it.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Game six homer in the first, then decks Game seven
- 58:52Speaker 2: in the first like that one.
- 58:54Speaker 3: Oher early lead is like huge, and our record too.
- 58:57Speaker 3: When we got the lead. I remember, like I don't
- 58:58Speaker 3: know what the stat is right off the but like,
- 59:00Speaker 3: like you, we get the lead. Is rare that people
- 59:03Speaker 3: came back on us, but they did. What did you
- 59:05Speaker 3: think about in that raj moment?
- 59:08Speaker 4: The home run? How loud was that place?
- 59:11Speaker 2: I mean, obviously I can look back on it more
- 59:14Speaker 2: fondly now that we won the game, but like in
- 59:17Speaker 2: the moment, the biggest letdown of like obviously my entire career,
- 59:23Speaker 2: and it like he hit the he hit it so
- 59:26Speaker 2: hard out Chappy was throwing Hunter and two like he
- 59:29Speaker 2: just had to hit it. Over heard that it was
- 59:33Speaker 2: right over my head and I'm like, I didn't think
- 59:36Speaker 2: it was going over the fence, but I knew and
- 59:38Speaker 2: he he choked up, Like remember that, I like I
- 59:43Speaker 2: felt like I should have jumped for the ball, like
- 59:45Speaker 2: that's and it was smoked. And I just remember looking
- 59:49Speaker 2: at you too across the diamond. We didn't make eye contact,
- 59:51Speaker 2: but I was just like, I just was like super defeated.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Everybody remembers Lebron on the thing, like what was going
- 59:59Speaker 4: to your head?
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: I was just like, do you remember any of those?
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: I was just like, dude, we came like we were
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: on the verge of coming back three to one, and
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: like that's how this is going to play out? Isn't
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: that crazy? Like isn't it so crazy?
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: We could talk ten years later and you we asked
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: anyone about Raj and it's like we lost the game,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: like that's the game, like we literally it was, and
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: we ended up winning the World Series and we still
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: talk about Raj. I still see him to this day,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: and I'm like, I don't want to talk to right,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: actually loved you made it like the best series ever.
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, it's like it's like he carries bad energy
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: when I see him, you know what I mean?
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: Like I like you, Raj.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: You always gotta smell on your face, But I've got
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: bad memories in my in my gut from you.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: When we went into the rain delay, Right, what where
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: were you, like, what do you remember about that.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: I remember going in, Well, so Cleveland is you got
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: to walk up the stair. Its kind of a little
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: not a little bit of a trek togainst the clubhouse, right,
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: So you're walking up. There's two stairs that go up
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: and I'm walking in and everything's tarped off. The beer
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: buckets are out, like.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: Thank god, and see that would have snapped.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: That Leuster made him take it all down.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw it, and I'm like I couldn't. I
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: saw it for five seconds and I turned right around
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: and then we all gathered in the weight room. But
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: I was I was like, dude, like I kind of understand, like, yeah,
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: you kind of have to set up for the party
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: or whatever and have enough time for it, but I'm.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: Like, that could have waited a bad look.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going to be on the field. Whoever won
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: was gonna be on the field for forty five minutes
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: and then they're going to make their weight in. But
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: I just remember that moment like being like they just
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: felt like everything was just taken from us. And uh,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: then we went to the the weight room and then
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: I saw Chappie in the corner crying and I was like, dude,
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: I feel so bad. Everybody like that guy like put
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: it all on the line, the whole playoffs being traded over,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: and like pitching two and a thirty.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Eight out saved in game five. Yeah, like then pitched
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: in game six.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: That's what we were talking about.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: Almost brought that up earlier, like he came in so
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: early in game five, so early, and yeah, I just
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: felt so bad for him in that moment, and we.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: All did, right, Like this is a rawless chat and
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: this dude is a like he's from Cuba. Nothing fases him.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: He's yoked.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, the scariest human being.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: Dinner half a year.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Half the year's been traded over new people. We've both
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: been traded. Like it's like it's kind of you never
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: really get to know the group you need to be
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: there in spring the dinner, the fact.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: That he was so like vulnerable there and then we
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: talk and like what do you remember from all that?
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: So that I don't remember too much. I just like
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: a lot of people like saying their piece obviously j hey,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: but like for me in the moment, I was just
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: more like focused on Chappie, Like I just like balling
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: his eyes off. I feel so bad for the guy.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: Like I said, I don't remember anything anybody said.
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: I have a hard time too. I remember him saying
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: like I remember saying.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: Like we how we got here, This is how we
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: got here, about us, yeah and all that, but I
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: don't the same thing. I'm the one that went and
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: got Chappy off the bench. He was in his hands,
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: crying off the bench because he was the only one missing.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: So went and got him and and then we walked in.
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: I was like, bro, we wouldn't be here without you
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: and all that.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, a lot of that. But then like
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: like I picture him in that state, and then I
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: picture him like when Zoeberst in Montero get the big
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: knocks and he's on the top rail like showing that
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: type of emotion, and it was like a complete one
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: eighty Like I didn't see him in the moment showing
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: that emotion, but in the the replays and you see him,
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: and then you see you. I don't even know what
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: you were saying, but you're like.
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: Like I told you that, I told you.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: I wonder how much though, like for Chappie right, like
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: he's he's Cuban. There's a definite language barrier, Right, it's
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: not easy being a foreign player, like playing and not
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: knowing the language. Sure you're new, and like I wonder
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: a free agent at the end of the yeah, and
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I wonder how much for him that man, like that
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: his whole team had his back there, right, Like how
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: much we actually cared.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: We're going to ask him. We're going, yeah, going back
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: to your point.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: Some of my favorite pictures, like there's photos of my
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: home run and hider, but I see the bench and
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: it's you and you and uh call like all these
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: guys like my favorite things, like when you see your
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: teammates joy for you, Like there is not a better
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: feeling in the world when you're like, look at my
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: my dudes having my back, right, Like yep, so pumped
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: for every little bit, almost let in, almost gave up
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: the game, almost get him killed on throwing the ball
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: in and getting his scoring on the wild pitch and
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: shit's going crazy, and I'm like get that home run
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: back and everybody's like top step this pumping, and you're
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: just your face is like so aggressively like happy.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: It's like I never was. But like there's something like
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: in the playoffs where it's you turn to a kid,
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: you turn it like it's like what you do individually
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: does not matter at all. You know, there's a certain
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: point of the other season where you're like you're trying
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: to put up your numbers and like you're trying to
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: win games, but in the playoffs, none of it matters,
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: and it's just and then move to the next Yeah,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: that's my favorite part. But how'd you feel? It was?
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: What the tenth right when you came up, you hit
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: that ball to the right center. It's a home run earlier, right, Yeah,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: and you hit it off the bat. We're so like
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: messed up for because of wind and coming up playing
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: a regularly. We know, all win the elements everywhere. Could
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: you know right away, like, yeah, I was, I hit
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: it good?
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: It was I knew right away.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: It wasn't going out. It was more like like how
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: you spin the ball when you hit when you get
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: one of those that you kind of like hit like yeah,
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: like when you kind of hit high center, but they
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: kind of like fade to left center, like you don't
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: truly backspin to center. And that was like one of those.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: I just knew the spin. It had that more of
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: the side spin, so it was going to just die
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: at the track. But I mean and Albert tagging up
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: on that ball, Like, I feel like that's not That's
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: not how you teach that play exactly. You go halfway
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: and for him to have the instincts to be a
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: rookie bro.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: He just came in the game. He was to be
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: in the game because he said, if Shorebert hits a double,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: you're going in. And then Shorebert let off with a
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: single and Joe audible real quick, So Albert had audible
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: real quick, man.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: Yeah, and at doing their jobs.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: Like we were talking about how many pieces connect.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: We don't win with that without everything, without taking a
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: risk like that, Yeah, like that having the honestly having
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: the Kahonas to tag up there in Game seven of
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: the World Series. And that's like I talk about Joe
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: and how much Joe meant to our group, especially our
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: young group of like he let us go play, he
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: let us speak kids, and by being kids, that's how
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: I feel like we shine most.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Joe, I feel like I think we did talk
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: about the team. I feel like Joe gets credit, but
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: he doesn't get enough credit for what he meant. No, agree,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: just like how easy it was playing for him talking
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: to him, and just I have like I talk about
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: my dad a lot, how I have emails from him.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: I have a lot of screenshots from Joe, just text messaging,
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: like back and forth with him that I keep too,
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: like just like and I never told him that, but
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: like just like it's just like how I want to
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: live my life too after baseball, Like just with anything
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: in life, like teaching my kids, like how to get
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: through school or whatever, Like what type of attitude you
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: want to have and how you want to approach it,
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: and like are you going to be like down on
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: yourself all the time? Are you going to like just
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: you know, push through it, you know, knock the wall down,
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: And like for me, Joe was that guy. But he
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: said it in such a great way that like it
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: wasn't like he was never demeaning, Like he never yelled
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: at us like he I don't. I have nothing but
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: amazing memories of how Joe coached us.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: If we don't win without Joe, he kept us in
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: this bubble and everybody criticizes a lot of things, and
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: he actually was very very accountable and walks us through
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: all his stuff was was great.
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: But the fact of like how he kept us with all.
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: Those distractions in one hundred and eight years, and like
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: I never felt to you of that in our world.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: We were on our own little world. Prissoners run the asile,
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: the whole thing. And he was so chill and fun.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: I learned a lot about having a life outside of baseball,
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: right and making that fun and being able to not
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: just enjoy.
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: On the backside of my career. And he man, he was.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: He's one of the best managers. Of him and Bobby Cox,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: I put probably probably at the top.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: It was just so unconventional on how he went about
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: it that, like I feel like coaches nowadays just can't
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: do it. He was one of the kind, one of
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: one of them.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: He's literally one of them.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: Swinging Bond.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Yeah, we're up one at this point, they scored a run.
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: Rajas on base.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: Where was he first? He was at first first. Yeah,
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: if that ball goes over Mike Montgomery cars, you're running
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: down the line, you're sliding.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: That's a big territory.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: Nobody's nobody's picking.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: Mike Montgomery's on the ringo car to close out Game seven.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: No, when he's coming in, they take CJ out where
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Like I remember saying on the mount.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Like we looked I feel like we looked over like
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: what like, I mean, who else would have came in? Right?
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: So yeah, we had ridden like.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: You know all those guys, like we had ritten those
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: guys too, but like we were talking Joe's like it
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: kind of flipped a little bit. These young guys was
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: pitching well, yeah, Montgomery and that curb money, Like.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Was Martinez supposed to hit there?
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Or was he hitting something hitting?
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: They brought him in for defense against for he pitch
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: hit for Chris Chris the they had taken him out
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: the inning at that before.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: Right for a guy or yeah, and then he came
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: up when his spot came.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: And he went in for defense.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, dude, just through because we've never really talked
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: about this us either, like because we just celebrated and
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: then yeah, and then nobody cares. Fucking pine tar globed
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: in my glove like before that night or tenth inning.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I literally took the rag and just I'm like, I'm
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: not dropping a ball because but it gets cold, like
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: the glove gets a little crispy, and like if I
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: don't catch it right and it pops out.
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: Nothing came up terrified.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: You know, I came out of your glove though I
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: was very comfortable throwing the balls. But it just goes
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: back to like like hitting in the World Series, you're like,
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: you're you're heightened, your your heart rates elevated a little bit,
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: You're you're feeling it. But like playing defense in big
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: games is way tougher in my opinion, Like you obviously
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: don't want to be the guy. Sure that scruis it
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: up for the team.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: And like there's a couple of guys' names and we're
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: not going to say any that, like you know, forever
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: in baseball history for the wrong reason, right, you know
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: what I mean? And like there's a massive Cubs person
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: that for ever, like unrightfully so has been like tormented. Yeah,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: and like other guys. So it's like, yeah, you're on defense,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: You're like.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: Yeah, when you guys have more time to think, like
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: the catching, the defense was my comfort zone. So like
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: after the first pitch, I was just like normal, except
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: for hitting. Hitting was like switch for you switch, God.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Damn ross, You've got two balls in on a pass ball.
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: Okay, well that's Leicester's folded lester.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: I think that was the one moment in my whole
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: career playing with you, or you tried to block a
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: Leicster curveball and like you were seeing tweety birds. This
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: dude is old fell.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: I woke up the next day it was wondering why
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: my ankle hurt, and I went back and watching I play.
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: I rolled my ankle when I went to get up
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: and were slow man, like, good time to go. He's
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: going killing tonight. He's actually gonna die. But you get
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: that ground ball.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I I think leading up to that two outside,
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: it's every person's dream to be the one to make
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: the last out, feel the last out, catch it, get
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: the last strikeout, But you don't want it to come
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: to you, right, I mean, I don't know what. I
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: was terrified.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: I was like that's a hit, and I put my
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: head down to go to first and I look up
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: and I see him like, oh fuck, he's yeah.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: I took like two like big stripes like off the bat.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, this is either Monty's gonna get it,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: didn't like. I was like, I'm gonna have to throw
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: this on the run, which wet grass Like yeah, I
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: got to it so quick. I was so maybe what
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: took two bounces and it was like a.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: Yeah, two bounces.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: It was a nice easy like and then I'm throwing
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: the ball on my foot slipping and you're smiling. It
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: wasn't a smile. It was like a just like it was.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: It was. It was just a concentration face.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: I guess yes, out of the hand, I thought that
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: was saled, you did.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: I was. That's how nervous I was. I was. I
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: might have like I didn't embellish it, but like I
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: kind of like leaned into like because if I just
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: like planted hard and then let it slip, that thing
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: was for sure going over your head. But like I
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: kind of like fell nice.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: Nice but yeah.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: I mean the rein to lay was it like fifteen
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: minutes long, seventeen minutes long. Good number, good number. And
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: then we just kind of just went out.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: And play right away.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: But there wasn't like a like you know what the
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: rain delay, they're fixing the field, they're striping it again,
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Like we didn't do any of them.
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: No, it was quick.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: But when you threw it to me, we're talking about
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: your dad and like we bringing full circle. Like when
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: I was a kid with my dad, I would always
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: like practice like winning and like being the champion of
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: the world, and like we would always like raise both
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: hands like the world so like you perfectly threw it
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: like high, and I was like that's why, Like you
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: raise your hands and that's why I was.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: High.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, like I'm champion in the world and like put
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: the ball in the pocket. I ran right to you
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: and we just like jump on each other.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: And yeah, dude, that was yeah, Like I don't know
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: for me personally, Like you know, I feel like we
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: won a lot over a short period of time that
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: you try to think how you're going to celebrate, right, Yeah,
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: like we're going right to each other, like Addie and
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Hovey are going together. You're like if you're on the field,
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: you're going to do your picture. And it's like I
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: feel like we we had conversations about that stuffing.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: We talked about that both the two best teams I've
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: been a World Series teams I've won with the teams
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: I've been on, they talk about winning the World Series,
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: and I think that's so important for a mindset of players,
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Like the ultimate goal was like don't don't sell yourself
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: short of like we want to make the playoffs or
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: we want to you know, like all that bullshit, Like
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: there's definitely steps to it, but like when you talk
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: about winning the World Series, that's when it's when you
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: get there and you're expected to be there.
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: And like we've already talked about how we're going to
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: celebrate this win, you know, like here we go.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Yeah, as much as we talked about it too, it's
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: like what the Cubs fans like, how they celebrated it
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: was like the most like crazy sentimental thing, right, like
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: seeing all the flags on the graves and people at
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: the graveyards and like flying the w everywhere, and it
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: was like we we knew it was going to be
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: that like that, but like it was ten times more, yeah,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: than what we even talked about. And we talked about
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: this all the time, like our imaginations are crazy, and
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: not too many things in the game outlives your imagination
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: and winning yeah, And it.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Was like it was so cool to see, like because
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: obviously the Cubs had not won in so long, but
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: like so much tradition just kind of came out like
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: at once, like seeing so many flags and people just
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: talking about how like oh my my mom would love
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: to see this day and like, oh my Grandpa saw
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: it and he passed away shortly after. It's like people
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: waiting around to see this.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: That's my favorite thing that I still carry is like
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: the rings. Great, that's obviously like winning is, but hearing
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: people's like stories of generational like how they became fans
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: and where they were at game seven and all that stuff,
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: it's amazing, yep, amazing.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Well, like our families are on the field afterwards, they're
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: all in it. They're on the end now of like
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: what I say, a two year vender of just like
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: celebrating and the parties, the parties at Leicester's, the parties
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: at country Club and Wrigleyville all this stuff, and like
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: there's everyone's so astatic. You get to like do all
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: this love. But like at the end, it's just like,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: well we we fucking did this.
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: We did. Like we're like we're.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: Only there's only twenty five of us, yeah, right, And
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: it's like, well, coaches and everyone evolved.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: But well then we're on that pedestal like like we
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: went to SNL, me and you Dex we'll talk about that,
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: but me and you went to and we were on
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: L and who was like giant at the time, Rightley
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: flew Disney flew us out to like all the way
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: to the Sick Jet.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I've playing on the all the Way to the SNL.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: I did Jimmy Kimmel too, You did Kimmel. What what
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: was like the biggest thing from winning that? Like that
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: from winning the World Series? What's the biggest thing that's
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: changed your life now ten years later from winning? Yeah?
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: Like, what have you learned most about that? I as
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: a player, as a person, as a dad?
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: What if I learned most from Oh my gosh. Well,
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: it's just like like if you speak it and you
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: put it out there and you have a group of
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: people that all buy in and speak the same language
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: as you, it's like it almost made it easier to
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: accomplish it, you know. And it's like not saying the
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: teams after like the twenty seventeen all the way through
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: twenty one when we were there, like we didn't have that,
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: you know that like in the moment, like we weren't
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: able to like see it. But now looking back on it,
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: you can totally see like it was just a special time,
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Like we had a whole group that bought in and
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: just all we did was talk about winning the World
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: series and what it would mean for a city and
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: the fan base, and we're like and it was like
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: nothing was gonna stop us. So it's like, yeah, you
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: like a lot of it For me now is like
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: I try to instill in my kids. Is like, like
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: my son just did ski lessons together and I'm sitting
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: there on the side of the mountain watching him and
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: he's struggling just to get back on this little magic
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: carpet thing because he's just sliding back on the snow
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: and I'm just sitting there. I'm like, I'm not going
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: to say anything to him, like I sure I can
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: go out there and push them. And I'm like, no,
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: you're gonna figure it out, like you're gonna have the
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: drive to get up the mountain and do it again.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: And for us, I was like, that's kind of what
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: we did. Like we went through all of our peaks
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: and valleys, and I was like, we talked to each other,
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: We leaned on each other, and some led by example,
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: some were more vocal, and like we all were able
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: to pull ourselves out from our crappy times and we
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: were at the mountaintop at the end of this thing.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, it's of the game, the.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: Peak of the sport, for the twenty sixteen Chicago Cubs,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: being the MVP of the greatest Cubs team in the
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: history of the organization, and what you meant to the organization,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: what we all meant. But the fact that we get
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: to sit down and talk about ten years later. Wow,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: it has been the one of the biggest joys of
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: my career so far.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Highlight.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: And I'm justus that you guys get to you dude
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: without well without you two like you and me and
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: the whole Brizo stuff and playing together and like our
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: relationship Jess and Emily are so close, and you coming
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: in and mentoring me. It's like I'm like, I'm full
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: of joy because of it looking back, of like I
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: got to do this with great people, being like lifelong friends.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: That's what it's all about, trying look back.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: We're sitting here at the summit here in Las Vegas,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: and like I'm telling Chris, I'm a really good guest
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: for a member of guest you're.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: Playing with decks. Yeah, well, but I think I think
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: the cool like just for our relationship personally, and I
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: might not have the best relationship with some of the
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: other guys on the team nowadays, which is it's hard
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: to grow apart. Yeah, but like I know that, and
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: like we might talk, might not talk for months, but
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: like I know that. Like when you call me or something,
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: it's like and you get a new number all the time,
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: like this is Anthony's new number. It's like, oh, Anthony's
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: calling h Like what does he want now? But no,
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: it's like when you call me, it's like it's not
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: like it's like we've been talking like yesterday.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: It's like you know certain players you play with and
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: then you see him like two years down the road
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: and you're like, I don't know what to say to you,
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Like I don't know how to talk to you right now.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: But it's like, I think we all built such a
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: good bond.
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: When you do what we did, we're your brothers for life, right, Like,
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: and how close our team was and the amount of
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: guys that we had that were good people, right and
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: also good baseball players, Like it was a very unique
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: group obviously to go through what we went through and
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: come out champions, but to that, to that respects, like
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: I I love everybody on that team, you know what
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: I mean.
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: It's like you see him and it just.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Joy bringing all the memories carried.
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: You off the field.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: It's not about me, Risk, but I'm saying though, like,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: that's how much you meant to us, like you were
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: forty years old.
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: Change my mind.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: So you're a backup catching you are? You are our
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: guy and close close out.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: Well, thank you to twenty sixteen MVP World Series Champion and.
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: Still active Chris Bryant.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: That was a lot of fun, man. We're really thankful
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: for you, obviously. I'm thankful for my ring, your friendship
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: and the round of golf.
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: Were about to play.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Love you, Dad, I love you Dad, you guys as much.
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: And to
