  [SPEAKER_00]: under talked about storyline but a storyline that's popped up some different outlets around town.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a very interesting question but before we get to that you have to talk about Trevor Lawrence who has had kind of a topsy-turvy career a little bit so far just

  [SPEAKER_00]: his own play has been there's been some inconsistencies certainly and then just kind of the situations around him like getting dropped into a situation where you're the number one overall pick the prince who was promised and your coach is urban buyer absolutely brutal then you do get a much needed just kind of like pro in the room and in Doug Peterson for the next couple years and

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that, you know, three years, the Jaguars want a lot of football games with it, bottomed out, no question.

  [SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of different things going on.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I personally think that Doug Peterson's lack of willingness to own the offense was a big problem.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I just don't think that that group ended up being as detailed as they possibly could be in in a world where offense and football in the NFL now is dominated by attention to detail.

  [SPEAKER_00]: by coaching every single moment, by just modern thinking.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Doug Peterson was behind the trends.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Certainly Ryan Nielsen was behind the trends.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then you get Liam Cohen come in here with Anthony Campanile and Company.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And they are with the trends, but also setting trends.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They're doing things their own way.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I think that they are very much in the camp of trying to push the needle forward in the NFL in terms of coaching schematically, but also leadership and everything that you could, we did a whole show on Liam Cohen yesterday the day before talking about how I think he is the star for the Jack Wars right now.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously Trevor Lawrence is too, but Trevor had a little bit of a rough start to the year as a lot of people did, getting used to this new system on both sides of the ball,

  [SPEAKER_00]: rounded into form and ended up being an MVP candidate last year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So what he did really well last year towards the end, they were a

  [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely fantastic 11-person L team with Trevor Lawrence at quarterback.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They weren't running the ball all that effectively or consistently.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They had some games here and there where they ran it well down the stretch, but it really became a passing offense where Trevor Lawrence was the catalyst along with the emergence of a Parker Washington.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The addition of

  [SPEAKER_00]: and BTJ becoming more of just that vertical outside presence, the offensive line doing a good job in past protection and the back doing a good job in past protection as well and doing a good job catching the ball of the backfield.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But what did Trevor Lawrence do?

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to me,

  [SPEAKER_00]: He finally found comfortability over the middle of the field and in large part that was to the addition of Jacobi Myers, the emergence of Parker Washington, and the return of Britain strange.

  [SPEAKER_00]: These guys could work the middle of the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It was like they were, you know, pounding their head against the wall with BTJ trying to go over the middle consistently, it just wasn't working.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And so they, uh,

  [SPEAKER_00]: Lost B2J for a little bit, they used him more as a vertical threat on the outside track, and that started working a little bit better more consistently.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And again, Jacobi Myers, that addition, again, with Parker, with Britain, kind of unlocked the middle of the field in a big way.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that that was a huge part of it for Trevor Lawrence, because he's a guy that can

  [SPEAKER_00]: And so he didn't have confidence in guys for a stretch during the season, and in their ability to go over the middle of the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And so unlocking the middle of the field, I think started help unlocking, the deep shots a little bit more.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I think having all these different threats in Jakobi and BTJ Parker, you name it, really helped.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Travis E.T.M was a big threat too.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Um, attacking, he got, uh, more comfortable within the offense, just kind of reading and analyzing, but also, we have Cohen said, hey, let it rip, man.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Like, let it rip, don't be so cautious, don't be so concerned.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Like, you understand the offense at this point?

  [SPEAKER_00]: You've got guys that can go make plays, let's let it rip, let's go.

  [SPEAKER_00]: and you started seeing that and you started seeing Trevor Lawrence unlock his legs more.

  [SPEAKER_00]: When the jack wars, there were some design stuff for sure.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But when the jack wars often really got humming and clicking fire on all cylinders, past game wise, when the first second, maybe even third read weren't there, and there was a lane Trevor Lawrence was taken off and destroying defenses with his legs.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that's when he really has been at his best throughout his career when his legs are a threat.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That needs to continue moving forward.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to limit some of it?

  [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, do you want to avoid big hits, obviously.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But Trevor Lawrence, he was dealing down the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you could still probably make the argument that the deep, deep ball, like true, like nine routes, post routes, flag, like some of that stuff wasn't there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Consistently down the stretch.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that's something they've been focused on in a big way this offseason.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But other than that, I feel like down the stretch, Trevor Lawrence was just dialed in pretty much every way.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Didn't have the best game against the bills.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the Jaguars had the best game plan against the bills.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Think they should have run the ball a lot more.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The bills sold out in my opinion to stop the pass.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They said, you can, will allow you to run the ball.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars didn't do it enough.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I think Trevor Lawrence,

  [SPEAKER_00]: from my vantage point earned like an A-minus grade, heading into the 2026 campaign.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You know, somewhere in that like 90 to 93 range, as a quarterback for the Jack Wars, I think he was awesome, a huge catalyst.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now, when you look at the rest of the quarterback room, I think that's where a lot of the questions come in and are there still some people out there who say, well, Trevor Lawrence can't win the big game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's won so many big games in his career and been like the catalyst for a lot of those wins and.

  [SPEAKER_00]: even in the games where they didn't win in the playoffs right against the chiefs or or the bills did he put them in position in the fourth quarter to win the game like did he have perfect game against the bills no but did he still get them in position to win the game multiple times late yeah he really did

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then, same thing against the chiefs, he did everything he could in a way against them.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And there was just a couple unfortunate mistakes by players around him that kind of, in my opinion, led to the jacks not being able to win an arrowhead in the playoffs.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then you look at all these other regular season games for the most part.

  [SPEAKER_00]: There's been a lot of big games and 2022 down the stretch and 2025 down the stretch and he was money and most of those games.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I think that Trevor Lawrence has still got a very very bright future ahead of him and going to be the Jaguar franchise quarterback for a long time, but

  [SPEAKER_00]: after that you have Nick Mullins who is a you know career backup I think it's fair to say obviously he started some football games here and there but career backup who has to be one of these guys that

  [SPEAKER_00]: quarterbacks and quarterback coaches and offensive coordinators, offensive coaches, et cetera, just like having him around as certainly someone who knows the system understands the system in a way has spent time with a lot of you know associated coaches, including time with Brent Edensky in Minnesota, prior to prior to arriving to Jacksonville in 2025.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Carter Bradley, who is the son of Gus Bradley, who has been the Jaguar scout team quarterback since like week four or five last year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They brought him in.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They liked him.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I'm in in Joey Aguilar.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar is we're able to add him in undrafted for agency.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of a big athletic quarterback has him in super impressive so far, but I think it's fair to question to the Jaguar's have a quarterback problem.

  [SPEAKER_00]: My answer to that would be

  [SPEAKER_00]: If Trevor Lawrence went down, and I hate even talking about this, but gotta talk about it.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If Trevor Lawrence went down with the Jaguars B&A position to win football games consistently without him, a lot of that comes down to the defense, a lot of that comes down to the running game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I would have to say, I think the answer right now is no.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I do think Nick Mullins is a good backup quarterback and all of the duties that are required other than actually getting on the field and winning your football games.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You just haven't seen a whole lot of that over the last several years.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Carter Bradley has no, and Joey Aguilar, there's just not enough experience or actual tape to even say anything really about those guys.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I don't think that they have this,

  [SPEAKER_00]: quarterback room where there are quarterback rooms around the league where you look at the back up quarterback and you're like, he come in and win you some games and carry the offent, not maybe not carry the offense, but you know, guide the offense to being functional and winning football games.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, do I think Nick Mullins is one of those guys.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I honestly don't right now.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if the Jag war is due.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I have said this for a while.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that the

  [SPEAKER_00]: And they felt like they were in a position to continue to compete.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They would make a move for a quarterback.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And you saw the Vikings do that multiple times.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You've seen the Rams do that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Or you bring somebody in from the outside, who you think maybe has a shot to

  [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they have experience in this system.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you just feel like with their skillset, you can work a simplified game plan around them and kind of get them up to speed.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's difficult to do that in the quarterback position, but I would have to believe if Lawrence went down and was gonna miss a significant amount of time, they would probably pivot at the backup quarterback spot.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And again, that's not an indictment on Nick Mullins.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Nick Mullins is here to play football games if Trevor Lawrence gets injured.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's here to help the room on a day-to-day basis.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That's my personal opinion and belief.

  [SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing out there that the coaches have never said that about Mullins or anything like that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Front office has never said that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That's just kind of my take on what I think would happen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So obviously the most important piece to a quarterback room is the starting quarterback, the backup quarterback's much less so.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But because I don't have like, if the Jaguar has had to play a game today with their current roster and Trevor Lawrence wasn't available, I would feel not good at all about the Jaguar's backup quarterback's quite honestly.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So overall, even though I have Trevor Lawrence with an A-, I'm gonna give the room a,

  [SPEAKER_00]: A, B, I mean, I guess I would say B plus, got to drop it down around at least, probably a B as a room, honestly.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's my opinion, I would give it a B. I was trying to, you know, mentally gymnastics like to B plus, but I just have zero confidence in any of the other quarterbacks besides Trevor Lawrence.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Don't get me wrong, don't take this out of context.

  [SPEAKER_00]: There are teams around the league that do have a better number two quarterback than the Jaguar's do right now in terms of getting on the field and playing winning football.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to give them a B and that is strongly propped up by Trevor Lawrence.
