- 0:22Guest this week. This is gonna be interesting
- 0:251. I... I'm super excited about this. We
- 0:27have James Parker in the house, not your
- 0:29typical It and the d guest, but
- 0:31considering that how things are going in the
- 0:33world, we figured this would be
- 0:35a super timely to dive into him He
- 0:37is the staff writer at the Atlantic,
- 0:40He's a editor publisher at the Pi magazine
- 0:42dedicated to to to homeless people, and he
- 0:44is the author
- 0:45of,
- 0:46getting through
- 0:48the next 5 minutes. Get me through the
- 0:50next 5 minutes. Yeah. Oh being alive. Thank
- 0:53you getting through the next 5 minutes, which
- 0:55I swear got, I probably scream that
- 0:5825 times a day. But James, how you
- 1:01doing? How are they treat you?
- 1:02They they treating me very well, and I'm
- 1:04very happy to be with you too. Thank
- 1:05you Thank you for having me. No. Absolutely
- 1:06Even though I started over here the title
- 1:08of it. I not to worry about that.
- 1:11The 1 thing that hopped out
- 1:13I wanna I wanna get into how you...
- 1:15You know, I think personally, I'm not trying
- 1:17to blow smoke, but you're,
- 1:19very different writer from what I'm used to
- 1:21I used to reading business books I used
- 1:22to reading self help books the
- 1:24the how to win friends and influence people's
- 1:26style books in your book. Yeah. Is in
- 1:28that genre, but it's it's written
- 1:31it feels like it's... Like, the 1 thing
- 1:33there always saw it said about We used
- 1:34to write blogs before the podcast. And they
- 1:36said, when I read, it sounds like you're
- 1:38talking, And I know I we just started...
- 1:39We just met. But I feel like it
- 1:41was you're talking as you're reading as you're
- 1:43writing it. III take that as a as
- 1:46a serious compliment actually because that that that
- 1:48that lets me know that I'm that I'm
- 1:50you know, I'm I'm I'm still connected to
- 1:52it. Know what I mean, that it's it's
- 1:53actually... It's actually me because every... You know,
- 1:55you... It's something that you think about when
- 1:56you're writing Mike it. Like, how much of
- 1:58this is
- 1:59just some kind of facade of language and
- 2:01how much of it is is actually me,
- 2:03you know, expressing what's important to me. So
- 2:05III really appreciate that comment. No. I'm I
- 2:07absolutely mean it. And the 1 word
- 2:10it that it's used over and over and
- 2:11over, and and it's something that we don't
- 2:13use in our everyday language, but it's the
- 2:14word owed.
- 2:16Yes. 0WED0DE0DE.
- 2:20And and then, like, usually, when we are
- 2:22hear the word, it's, like, an o to
- 2:24my father,
- 2:26or it's... It's not... You know, it's not
- 2:28something that's in the vernacular, but you've carved
- 2:30it up, like, 1500 different ways. What how
- 2:33did what is the origin of that?
- 2:36Well, so an o traditionally is is a
- 2:38is a poem. And the first o were
- 2:40written, you know, back in in in ancient
- 2:42Greece by this character finder.
- 2:45And his o were
- 2:47celebrations of athletic feat, like great chariot, great
- 2:51boxer, great sprinter,
- 2:53so that... So they beg forget the owed
- 2:56began as a way of celebrating things. And
- 2:59and
- 3:00my, you know, my version of it is
- 3:02just to celebrate what's surround me. And what
- 3:04I'm into. And what I'm doing that day,
- 3:06So I to barbecue chip. Owed to in...
- 3:08You know, norway always it's not always very
- 3:09nice things. Owed owe insomnia, but it's trying
- 3:12to find the good stuff in there or
- 3:14the useful stuff or whatever I can take
- 3:16away from it.
- 3:17That that is, you know, slightly
- 3:19something I can carry into my life, basically
- 3:21that gives me some, you know, forward forward
- 3:23momentum, basically. If you haven't had better made
- 3:26sweet barbecue chips.
- 3:29Don't... We will send you a...
- 3:32Wait. NAD or... Better made MAILMADE.
- 3:35It's a Detroit 3. Yeah. Yeah. It goes
- 3:37hand in hand, like Fa chips that's all
- 3:39we all grew up on.
- 3:41Brian owen. Thank you.
- 3:43But that is a this... That is their
- 3:45best flavor by far sweet barbecue. So... Yeah,
- 3:48if we have... If we end up sending
- 3:49you... You sent me the book. So I'll
- 3:51send you a care pack of some better
- 3:52made... Me Cap Be. You chips Be forever
- 3:55Need that. Yeah. So... Yeah.
- 3:57How... Like, being in technology,
- 4:00like, I was to... Been talking... The it's
- 4:02pretty much this year, and I don't if
- 4:04it's a post Covid thing or not.
- 4:06But a lot of the conversations I'm having
- 4:07with my, you know, my peer group, other...
- 4:09Like, I'm in, I'm in sales
- 4:11in technology,
- 4:12you know,
- 4:13and like, Randy, in the development side, But,
- 4:16like, a lot of us are talking more
- 4:18and more about betterment and health, and we're
- 4:20still talking about, like,
- 4:22We... We're still talking about Scotch and and,
- 4:25you know, Ipa and beer, but we're not...
- 4:27The the conversations are shifting.
- 4:29Yeah. How long has this been on the
- 4:31top I guess, of your
- 4:33mindset, and I guess, why did you wanna
- 4:34dump out, like, how to be better?
- 4:37Well, you know, I've I've IIA
- 4:40I'm a dude to struggles a lot with
- 4:42with
- 4:44slope and depression and just general kind of
- 4:47moral
- 4:48sluggish ness.
- 4:49So since my mid twenties, I've been I've
- 4:52been trying to address that in different ways,
- 4:54some of them healthy not so healthy. But
- 4:56then, you know, you get to your fifties
- 4:57where I'm at now.
- 4:58And you have to... You really have to
- 5:00start start taking care of yourself a bit.
- 5:03And
- 5:04so I... This is this this book is
- 5:06really the
- 5:08you know, the kind of sum submission of
- 5:09what I've at least learned about my myself
- 5:11in that respect because I think, you, you
- 5:12know, 1 1 thing about journalism, which is
- 5:14my job. Is that it encourages a very
- 5:17sort of shallow
- 5:18expertise in a very wide
- 5:20field. You know, you you you sort of,
- 5:22you know, you learn quickly about tons of
- 5:25stuff, but you don't actually go that deep,
- 5:28or or at least you're trying to produce
- 5:29the illusion that you're go in deep That's
- 5:31the idea. Know what I? Yeah.
- 5:33But the 1 thing that everybody is a
- 5:35complete expert in, and in fact the world's
- 5:36number 1 authority in is their own experience.
- 5:39So that's that's kind of what I was
- 5:42I was after in this in this book
- 5:43to write about the things that helped me
- 5:45get through the day, help me get through
- 5:46the next 5 minutes. To be grateful to
- 5:49the to their artists,
- 5:50we've may we can get to some of
- 5:51the musicians and the and and the movie
- 5:53makers something that writers who who, you know,
- 5:56who kinda kept me going. And also some
- 5:59of the some of the techniques, I don't
- 6:00really wanna call them hacks because that's a
- 6:02bit of a know what that is. Overused.
- 6:03But but you know some of some of
- 6:05the some of the ways that you can
- 6:06you can kinda jump yourself. And, you know,
- 6:09that I've got an o cold showers for
- 6:10example, because I have a cold shower every
- 6:12morning. And that's a serious part of my
- 6:15day. I mean, that really does set me
- 6:17up. It really changes
- 6:18that my my kind of approach to the
- 6:20day and it and and it gives me
- 6:21a tremendous flipping and jolt. You what mean?
- 6:24I've listened to Andrew Hub try to tell
- 6:26me to take a eye bath.
- 6:28For 2 years. And and then I see
- 6:31Joe Rogan doing it. And then I see,
- 6:33Yeah.
- 6:34Patrick but David doing it. And then I'm
- 6:35like,
- 6:36No. I'm not. I'm not doing. What? I
- 6:39mean
- 6:40ice baths Ice... The ice bath is pretty
- 6:42extreme. I've done a few of them. And
- 6:44and and you climb in and your and
- 6:46your brain...
- 6:47The first 10 seconds is your brain
- 6:49screaming at you. You are gonna die. What
- 6:52are you doing here? You're gonna die. You
- 6:54know, and then you, you know, why are
- 6:55you doing this to me? And you have
- 6:56to and you have to get through that.
- 6:57And they are, they are very in. But
- 6:59the cold shower is is not as intense
- 7:01as nice bath in no way. And it
- 7:02and it's just a lovely shot of of
- 7:04of kind of refreshment. See. I keep... The
- 7:06the the themes are are same and I
- 7:09wanna get your take on it. It's, you
- 7:10know, first thing in do your wake up
- 7:12in the morning, chuck some water, get some
- 7:14sunlight.
- 7:16Yeah. You know, I I see the cold
- 7:17shower bit. You know, Yeah.
- 7:20What is it? 30 minutes of walking 30
- 7:22grams of protein?
- 7:23Well, just but this is Brighter. But this
- 7:25is where... You know, this is where IIII
- 7:27don't I don't I don't take issue with
- 7:29you and because he know he's a scientist
- 7:31he knows what he he's talking about. But
- 7:32but this kind of my... This kinda like
- 7:34micro programmed approach to to to to to
- 7:38your experience.
- 7:39That's that's just that, you know, you get
- 7:41your temperature sunlight and and blink as necessary.
- 7:43It's saw... It's all, like, you know, it's
- 7:45so it's... There's something I don't know. There's
- 7:47something very, very
- 7:4920 24 and taking care of yourself and
- 7:51your own little machine and your own little
- 7:53mechanism and not optimizing, optimizing, optimizing. You know
- 7:56I don't... I'm not really particularly about optimizing
- 7:58everything. I think there's there's a a level
- 8:00of self acceptance of one's zone,
- 8:03you know, whatever.
- 8:04That is quite useful. It's amazing what guys
- 8:06are talking about now compared to 20 years
- 8:08ago, because 20 years ago. Right. You wake
- 8:09up Mar red for.
- 8:13Owner Red bull. Yeah, Just yay exactly get
- 8:16me. Just... Are used they were not I
- 8:18used to wake up have pull exactly Right.
- 8:20Yeah. Give me till 11AM,
- 8:22my... I got a little bit of a
- 8:23hangover, you know, and here we are talking
- 8:25about cold showers and in, getting sunlight late
- 8:28in the morning.
- 8:30I mean, it's it's it's healthy, though, Don't
- 8:32You think I mean it's a good... I
- 8:33think it's a good tendency generally. I'm in
- 8:35I'm in I'm in the same motor as
- 8:37you. That's why I was, I, I was
- 8:39looking forward to this conversation is,
- 8:41III keep telling people. I'm in, my car
- 8:44in the shop,
- 8:45the engine's getting rebuilt.
- 8:47I need some body work done, because I...
- 8:49I'm having knee surgery at the end of
- 8:51the month.
- 8:52Yeah. I... Basically, the doctor told me 1
- 8:55more doughnut, I'm pretty much done. So now
- 8:57I'm I'm eating pigeon food.
- 9:00Right. I'm not boo
- 9:02And I'm just like, I'm just... Every I...
- 9:04This year. Yeah. So, like, everything is, like,
- 9:07I'm just in total
- 9:09rebuild mode because I've been spending the last
- 9:1130 years to drawing myself. Did you did
- 9:14you get as far as my o 0
- 9:15not drinking? Can I read it to you
- 9:17It's very very? Yeah. O are not drinking?
- 9:20I note the change when I resist my
- 9:22alcoholic whim. The mornings are more sparkling, but
- 9:26the evenings are more dim.
- 9:28That's my ultimate do not drink. It's because
- 9:30you... Right? Because the... Because the... You know,
- 9:33I I... As I'm sure, you know, I
- 9:34mean, as... I'm sure you've you... You will
- 9:36experience tonight. Like, if there's not a drink
- 9:38at the end of the day, it really
- 9:39goes on for a very, very long time,
- 9:40Like, what's was 09:00 10 now what? You
- 9:42know? Oh, so
- 9:44and but then if you do drink, then
- 9:45in the morning, We have the red bull
- 9:47doughnut. You know, count to to contend with.
- 9:50I found myself yesterday, watching the heroes with
- 9:52a with a 1 of my best friends.
- 9:55On an Irish pub. And we had... Guess
- 9:58he had to guinness us in a whiskey,
- 9:59and I drank a sugar of free red
- 10:00bull.
- 10:01And the difference as soon as the match
- 10:04was done. I'm like, let's get to have
- 10:06fo of here. Like, I'm gonna done. I'm
- 10:08done. Yeah. Yes. And you know, I'm waiting
- 10:11Let's have another 1. Let's... Yeah.
- 10:12I'm like, I'm done. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But,
- 10:15you know, now I'm waking up at 6
- 10:16in the morning. I I don't know who
- 10:17I am anymore. It's it's a...
- 10:20You look you look very well. I'm must
- 10:21say. I'm get... I feel better. I do...
- 10:23I really do.
- 10:25So 1 thing I wanted to talk was
- 10:26getting through the the next 5 minutes. And
- 10:28the first thing that came to my mind
- 10:30was a joke going, did somebody write a
- 10:32book, you know, getting through the next 6
- 10:33minutes, and you were, like, you know, instead
- 10:34of 7 minute abs you went 6 minute
- 10:36abs.
- 10:38Right.
- 10:39How did you
- 10:40come to 5 minutes? Because again, this is
- 10:43something I talk about Like, this is comes
- 10:45up 20 times in my head all day.
- 10:47Give me through the next day 5 minutes.
- 10:49Like, how did it come how did that
- 10:50become the number though?
- 10:52That that... That's a really good question. I
- 10:54think I think 5 minutes is a unit
- 10:55that that
- 10:56it suggests, you know, it's it's it's urgency
- 11:00without emergency. You what I mean, if was
- 11:01if it was getting me through the next
- 11:0230 seconds, that's... Then you're then then things
- 11:05are really quite acute. You know what I
- 11:06mean? Yeah. But Get these the next 5
- 11:07minutes, You got, you know, you got a
- 11:09tiny bit of resilience. You can, you can,
- 11:11you know, you can manage it kind of.
- 11:13And then, you know, are you, you know,
- 11:15however, many units of 5 minutes become a
- 11:17day and a month and a year. You
- 11:19just you just keep keep going. You know?
- 11:21But
- 11:22that's a really good question.
- 11:24That's what I'm gonna think about that so
- 11:25more No. It's fair because again, like,
- 11:28with me, I think with everybody I know
- 11:30now Like, we all... Like, especially, I'm considered
- 11:33Gen x and Randy ear millennium. Right?
- 11:36Like, I think everybody's
- 11:37Adhd is is exponentially worse every generation we
- 11:41get. Mine's horrible.
- 11:43Yes. I get to the bottom of the
- 11:44page, someone text me, like, I... You know,
- 11:46the whole being...
- 11:48I wanna put my phone in airplane mode.
- 11:50My calendar blocked. I'm in Go mode. Yeah.
- 11:53Like, it's tough to do that. I try
- 11:54to do an hour a day of that,
- 11:56and it's what so ago. And of
- 11:58I've got an o to my o to
- 12:00my flip phone in here. Bring her back.
- 12:02I.
- 12:04Basically about that. I've done... Look, here is
- 12:06Here's my flip phone. This this is what
- 12:07I use. Getting...
- 12:10So
- 12:11so hang on hang. You still play Nokia
- 12:13snake on it though. See that you there's
- 12:14always something to divert
- 12:17attention But okay. Okay. Okay. Can I read
- 12:19this paragraph? Yeah, please.
- 12:23So this, I'm talking too much... I'm talking
- 12:25to my flip phone.
- 12:27Your powers of distraction are limited. When I'm
- 12:30bored,
- 12:31anxious or angry,
- 12:32or bored and anxious and angry, I can't
- 12:35just pick you up and stare at you.
- 12:37Well rather, I can stare at you, but
- 12:39I can't stare through you.
- 12:41I can't gaze Slack faced into there.
- 12:45Into that itchy dreamy eats your mind place.
- 12:48I'm stuck out here in the world, with
- 12:51my boredom and my anxiety and my anger.
- 12:54I stand around hands in my pockets.
- 12:56I feel the stinky breeze on my face.
- 12:59I hear the cage home of the city,
- 13:01the cage home of my brain. In words,
- 13:03it's not always
- 13:05great not to be distracted, but I think
- 13:07I... In the end, I do just trust
- 13:09it a little bit more. You know what
- 13:10I mean?
- 13:12I don't know. Randy, how many notifications you
- 13:14get during the day on apps that you
- 13:16don't wanna talk to you. And I try
- 13:18to turn I get so many, but even
- 13:20just I feel
- 13:22overwhelmed, I'm trying to go in and clean
- 13:23up those notifications Or just so many I
- 13:25don't want, but trying to tackle them is
- 13:28just Yeah. So much work. And it's it's...
- 13:30To unsubscribe, like, I do the try to
- 13:33do once a month to unsubscribe. I try
- 13:35to... Like, my I just downloaded No. So
- 13:38they push notification. I had a headway for
- 13:41audiobooks.
- 13:42They've... Oh, you gotta read this to. What
- 13:44is What is new? When is that? New?
- 13:46It's it's like,
- 13:48like a food thing? Yeah. Food log, weight
- 13:50log.
- 13:52No. Help It's a different way to look
- 13:54at food. They they put things into green
- 13:56yellow red as to... And they say, hey,
- 13:59you can It's not like you gotta eat
- 14:01pigeon food, but they'll, hey. If you wanna
- 14:03eat a burger today, that's great. Just don't
- 14:04eat 16 of them.
- 14:06Right. You know, just treat yeah, Make sure
- 14:08you eat a salad, you know, before or
- 14:10after.
- 14:12Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, and it kinda
- 14:14like, poke, hey, instead of eating that, eat
- 14:16this. This will, you know, So it's my
- 14:18buddy lost 50 pounds doing. I'm like, I'll
- 14:21I'll do it for short time. So...
- 14:23That's good. It's a thing, Like, again, you
- 14:26know, you turn 50, I turned 50 last
- 14:27year too, it's Yeah. We're all kind of
- 14:29this silent cry for help. It's a little...
- 14:32You know, when I was looking at the
- 14:33your
- 14:34the the notes for this too. He had
- 14:35buzz management in there. I'm, like, oh, boy.
- 14:38We're gonna be talking about... Yeah.
- 14:41Yeah. It's this what I thought it was.
- 14:43No. I think Buzz management is my is
- 14:45gonna be my major contribution to, you know,
- 14:47western civilization. It's the it's the it's the
- 14:50it's the idea that that,
- 14:53I mean, we've all got this kind of
- 14:54rogue, you know, energy inside us? And how
- 14:56do you... Everybody has to handle it in
- 14:58their own way? Like, how do you had
- 14:59do you, you know, had... How does 1
- 15:00handle it? Lots of people handle it with
- 15:03booze and drugs, Lots of people handle it
- 15:05with exercise.
- 15:06Lots of people handle it with, you know,
- 15:08meditation and and other... But you gotta handle
- 15:10it. And if you don't handle it,
- 15:13you know, it's gonna it's it's gonna it's
- 15:15gonna it's gonna run you and run you
- 15:17in some in some funny directions, I think.
- 15:20So what do are you... So it's basically
- 15:23it's anything that you're... That is running you
- 15:25or Guess what is...
- 15:27Well... Okay. So my... So my example is
- 15:29is, I is that, I'm always kinda riding
- 15:32the line between being excited and being anxious.
- 15:35So, like, how do I keep myself excited
- 15:37without getting too anxious. You. So should I
- 15:39have a drink now? Oh, no. No. No
- 15:41I'm a bit tired. Now I need a
- 15:42cup of coffee. Give me a. I'm I'm
- 15:44I'm always... I'm always, you know, trying to
- 15:46address. The kind of wave of my of
- 15:48my energy and compensate for the deficits or
- 15:50the, you know, the surges in in some
- 15:52way. That's buzz management. We never had they're
- 15:56healthy wise are not healthy ways to do,
- 15:57obviously. Oh, I have absolutely. We used to
- 15:59teach,
- 16:00our our big presentation was the 10 commandments
- 16:02of networking.
- 16:04We started as a networking group, so we
- 16:05would help, like, state of Michigan had some
- 16:07programs and everybody had... Like, we were... Every
- 16:10once in a while, there was a conference
- 16:11that would ask us to do it.
- 16:13But my third 1 was thou shalt not
- 16:15have anxiety. And the way we would explain
- 16:17it was,
- 16:18there's some people that walk into that room
- 16:20and they're definitely afraid to talk to anyone
- 16:23then you have me
- 16:25who has so much anxiety because I wanna
- 16:27meet everyone right now.
- 16:29I go, yeah. Please don't think you are
- 16:31alone having anxiety. We all manifest it in
- 16:35different. You know, we all have that thing
- 16:37we're afraid of.
- 16:38Yes. Yes. And it's part of... I mean,
- 16:39it's just part of being a life, like,
- 16:41like, you know, feeling feeling like that. The
- 16:43question is what you what you do with
- 16:44it. Right? Right.
- 16:45Me, everyone I talked to, I
- 16:48it took me years to try not to
- 16:50do this. But everyone I talked to, I
- 16:52would always look left and look right to
- 16:53see if there's someone else I should be
- 16:55talking to also instead of the voting. Yes.
- 16:57Hundred percent eyes forward to this person that
- 17:00I'm spending time with. And it was my...
- 17:02It was 1... Honestly, it was 1 of
- 17:03my worst habits I had as a human
- 17:05being.
- 17:06Yeah. Always seeing... Because he just took... Yeah
- 17:08because people notice That's the thing. People pick
- 17:09that fuck. This guy doesn't give a shit,
- 17:12you know, about this conversation because he's looking
- 17:14over shoulder.
- 17:15Yeah. And It had nothing to do with
- 17:16them it had everything to do with
- 17:18Oh, my god. I need to talk to
- 17:2050 more people after, you know. How do
- 17:22to highly accomplish that.
- 17:24Yep.
- 17:26So I wanna dive into this Jason bourne
- 17:28thinks things it's driving me out sharing. Yeah.
- 17:30Yeah. You
- 17:32said
- 17:33why is Jason born the greatest action hero?
- 17:35And I don't fight you to the death.
- 17:38I have a I have a very good
- 17:39friend of mine who All I have to
- 17:41say is Flash gordon can beat up Superman,
- 17:43and he he will get completely irate with
- 17:46me.
- 17:47While I like the Jason bourne films, I
- 17:49never really considered Met Damon in action hero
- 17:53per s. I'm dying to hear your take
- 17:55on this.
- 17:56Okay. So my my my take... I mean,
- 17:59I think they're they're they're great movies in
- 18:00in their own right. But but
- 18:03My take on Jason Bourne. He's he's my
- 18:05favorite action hero because his mission is the
- 18:08essential human mission I think, which is to
- 18:10figure out who he is and what he's
- 18:11here for why he's on it. That's that's
- 18:15his whole trip. He he, he, you know,
- 18:17he arrives. He he floats up nameless with
- 18:20no memory. You know, and that he's taken
- 18:22in by the kindly Italian fishermen, and the
- 18:24nice doctor,
- 18:26and just discovers that he has these weird
- 18:28skill sets, you know, you can tie these
- 18:30weird, you know, sailors knots, then he finds
- 18:32out he can speak German, and then he
- 18:33finds out he can kick us, you, in
- 18:36this amazing way. And, but he still doesn't
- 18:38really know who he is. And that's that
- 18:40the whole trajectory of the films, where he's
- 18:41gotta get to the heart of his identity.
- 18:43Then he discovers his programmed to be this
- 18:45killer. So then he has to go under
- 18:46that. Like, is that that's but that's still
- 18:48not who is? Who was he before? What
- 18:50did they do to him? So that's that's
- 18:52why I love I love Chase. But who...
- 18:53Okay. So who's your favor reaction here? Who
- 18:55who we talking about? I mean, I'm a
- 18:56flash Gordon junkie.
- 18:58Yeah. Flash.
- 18:59Yeah. The 19 80
- 19:01film. That's the hand. I put that above,
- 19:05Jed, or empire strikes back. Like, I'm a
- 19:08I'm a weirdo.
- 19:09I'm have to watch that again. I could
- 19:11watch. And it's so
- 19:13camp, Corny. I have a couple, Yeah. I'll
- 19:15call them like, 35 year old neighbors I
- 19:17had to have watch,
- 19:19a few of the scenes there They look
- 19:20look at me and they said you're an
- 19:22absolute idiot.
- 19:24Wait. Is that the wrong with a queen
- 19:25queen doing the soundtrack? Yeah. Absolutely.
- 19:28Yes. Yes. I like the soundtrack record? Top
- 19:293 soundtrack, movie soundtrack of all time. Yeah.
- 19:32Yeah. Yeah. Those are craig crazy like Brian
- 19:35mayer, Guitar. Yes. Yeah. The the hawk man
- 19:37fight. I still get chills on my arm.
- 19:39I'm I mean, fights Okay.
- 19:42Right Oh. Brian Brian Blessed.
- 19:45Yeah. It.
- 19:46Chris Who also played Randy, if you did
- 19:49not know this, the leader of the Gun
- 19:51in episode 1.
- 19:53Charger
- 19:54charger us. He's He's like a test something
- 19:57Oh, Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:00Yeah. That guy. Yeah that hoc man from
- 20:02Flash court. So, yeah. That's my little trivia
- 20:04for the day. That nobody cares about. Except
- 20:06for me. Yeah.
- 20:09But see, like, J... I'm looking at Jason
- 20:11bourne out, and you look at the simplicity
- 20:13of, like, a John Wick.
- 20:15Who... Yeah.
- 20:16You know, you killed my dog, so I
- 20:18wanna murder, like, 3 quarters of the building.
- 20:20Quote, and that's and that's but, you know,
- 20:22that's that... That's very effective. If you kill
- 20:23my dog and I'm gonna destroy all of.
- 20:25Mean, that's that's beautiful too. But there's... There's
- 20:27something about Jason Bourne journey into his own
- 20:30identity. Which I which I just... That's really
- 20:32compelling. And then he, you know, he meets
- 20:34these other dudes on the way. You've also
- 20:35been turned into kind of monsters like he.
- 20:38And there's tremendous paid us when they actually
- 20:39figure out who they are, but that they
- 20:41have to kill each other anyway. Yeah. I
- 20:43think I just... I think they're just really
- 20:44good movies. You now, like, me growing my
- 20:47like, super friends the cartoon super seeds, like
- 20:50the marvel
- 20:51and the Avengers movies today. Like, I I
- 20:54yeah Meanwhile, they'll legion to doom them. Like,
- 20:56that to me that's
- 20:57it'll never get any better, But my by.
- 21:001 of the coolest moments of my life,
- 21:02I got to watch an Ultra man movie
- 21:04in Tokyo.
- 21:06Proper. Like, yeah. That was...
- 21:10I loved Ultra man. I love the Kaiju
- 21:12movies, like, the like, the new Godzilla minus
- 21:151 I thought was a absolute brilliant film.
- 21:17What about that. Yeah. Yeah. Do you guys
- 21:19like wrestling? I I look oh, My god.
- 21:21Don't get me started.
- 21:23Can I get you started? Totally love it.
- 21:25Yeah. Like, I was toes was it smack
- 21:27down in Worcester. On where you real
- 21:30Friday night. Yeah Yeah. I love it. It's...
- 21:33I'm I'm kind of, Kind of a a
- 21:34recent con, but I find it completely fascinating.
- 21:37My
- 21:38grandfather who didn't speak a lick of English.
- 21:41Loved it. Thought it was actually real. He
- 21:43would argue with family members, and I would
- 21:45have to translate everything to him.
- 21:47So that was my earliest memories. I used
- 21:49to bring over V dhs tapes, and we
- 21:51would argue about, you know, this guy that
- 21:53guy,
- 21:55I still go... I I got involved in
- 21:57the business very shortly. I was doing play
- 21:59by play and ring announcing for the small
- 22:01independent circuit in Michigan. Yeah. Yeah. What? Yeah.
- 22:05I have a bunch of... I have a
- 22:06bunch of friends that are in the business.
- 22:08A couple of them just got signed.
- 22:11Yeah.
- 22:12It's a it's a it's a pretty... It's
- 22:13a crazy world.
- 22:15I'm glad I'm on them... I'm glad I'm
- 22:16on the microphone site, not on the ring
- 22:18site. Because those guys are all
- 22:20not just amazing athletes, but they're all hurt.
- 22:22Every 1 of them, they all have something...
- 22:23Oh, I know. I know. I mean, that's
- 22:25that, you know, we're... I mean, I mean,
- 22:26my people say is not real. I mean,
- 22:28these guys take serious damage. And a Star
- 22:31Wars wasn't filmed in space either. You know?
- 22:34I'm just...
- 22:35My dad was always screaming. Me mean, hey,
- 22:37Bobby, that's fake. Like you why you watched
- 22:39this clip. I'm like,
- 22:42like dead. You just watched, like, you know,
- 22:44Indiana Jones. Like, that that wasn't real. Like,
- 22:47that's that's okay.
- 22:49My thing is or or or at least
- 22:50my, you, my current thought, is that is
- 22:52there any any any
- 22:54sports event that you're watching. Your mind is
- 22:56always
- 22:57g for a narrative? Always g for a
- 22:59story. Like, this guy is the underdog. I'm
- 23:01support him. I hate that guy. He makes
- 23:03too much money or this breath is he
- 23:05evil or something, you know, wrestling actually gives
- 23:07you these gives them to. You what I
- 23:09mean like? This is a bad guy. This
- 23:10is the good guy. This is what they're
- 23:12now there's in confusion But you what I
- 23:14mean? It... It gives you this stuff so
- 23:15you can enjoy this spectrum. This is as
- 23:16old as time. The story are as old
- 23:18as time. Like, yeah. I don't know if
- 23:20you... Are you watching the the aco.
- 23:22Right now. No. What is that Yeah. It's
- 23:24the new Star Wars series on Disney plus.
- 23:28I find it. Everyone's getting a lot of
- 23:30hate. I don't I don't hate it. I
- 23:31think it's fascinating, but it's using an old,
- 23:34like, Japanese samurai film tactic of looking at
- 23:37the film through multiple lenses through the like
- 23:40the
- 23:41Yeah. This... Yes. Exactly. It's exactly doing that
- 23:43just that. So if you if you know
- 23:45that going into it, It's... Yeah. I think
- 23:47it's kinda brilliantly written. It's it's really, you.
- 23:50All of a sudden, you get it from
- 23:51that angle, and you're, like, and it changes
- 23:52your whole dynamic of that scene.
- 23:55That's great. And they're brilliant at it. And
- 23:56it's it's really well done. You haven't if
- 23:58you haven't get caught. I'm checking out. Epic
- 24:003 is kinda trash, but the rest of
- 24:02it's is really good.
- 24:04Halt man fight the Aco light and better
- 24:06mate barbecue chip. Better made barbecue with. Yes.
- 24:08Right. And a ph in a fa rock
- 24:10and rye.
- 24:11A what? What is? Fuego. It's our it...
- 24:13We call it pop. It's soda.
- 24:16It's like a black cherry cream soda.
- 24:19That sounds completely disgusting. Oh, is not. It's...
- 24:22You can only have 1 because your sugar,
- 24:23you know, blood sugar gold. Yeah Yeah. Yeah
- 24:25I am not allowed to have it, but,
- 24:26you know,
- 24:291 thing I wanted to to... I forgot
- 24:30to bring up to you about the book
- 24:32is Yeah. It is, like,
- 24:35I don't wanna call it diary size, because
- 24:37I don't wanna, a, pigeon h.
- 24:39Physical size of it. Yeah. It's a.
- 24:42And it's okay. It's not... It's the smallest
- 24:44book I own.
- 24:46Yeah.
- 24:48What was the... Is there a is there
- 24:49a reason?
- 24:50Why? Was it? No Well, so I was...
- 24:53I... The... I never actually
- 24:55stipulated or specified anything about what size I
- 24:57thought it should be. But when they when
- 24:59when they sent me the box a couple
- 25:01of months ago I just where it came
- 25:02out. And and I opened it. I was
- 25:03like, oh this is beautiful. Because I was
- 25:05expecting it to be some kind of big
- 25:07clunky hard back, you know, that we will
- 25:08get for Christmas can never read, But it's
- 25:10not. It's kind of a lovely little kinda
- 25:12Alma, it's kinda manual size. Thing that goes
- 25:15in your back pocket. And I love the
- 25:17idea that Pete... That is... And I I,
- 25:19you, I'm completely dating myself here because I
- 25:21know I've already read on phones and Chemicals
- 25:22or whatever. But the idea that you can
- 25:24carry this book,
- 25:25with you
- 25:26just around with you very easily and just
- 25:28dip into it now and again. That's that's
- 25:30that's... The the the the size I think
- 25:32is something to do with Well, I would...
- 25:34What I would like to imagine is the
- 25:35functionality of the of the of the book.
- 25:37Yeah. I have a, I think, 9 or
- 25:398 folds in it already. So, like, I'm...
- 25:40Yeah. Really? Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Wow.
- 25:44No. It's... Like I said,
- 25:461 of the things. It's 1 of those,
- 25:47like,
- 25:48not a... It was never a bucket list
- 25:50for me. We... I enjoyed writing, more than
- 25:52this. Yeah Yeah to be the same. This
- 25:55is this is they're both very fork for
- 25:56me, but I enjoyed writing.
- 25:58We used to write a blog series. We
- 26:00didn't wanna tell people what to do. We
- 26:02like, our culture was told people would not
- 26:04to do. So it became... Don't be that
- 26:06guy and how not to suck at. Yep.
- 26:09It's... When we did our ted talk, it
- 26:10was
- 26:11basically called Suck class. Like, you don't need
- 26:13to be the best. You just need to
- 26:14suck class. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah like, yes. You
- 26:16you'll be perfectly capable if you suck class
- 26:18than than them.
- 26:20But the don't be that guys were great
- 26:22because it was... I I wouldn't call you
- 26:24out, but if you read it, you're, like,
- 26:25oh, shit. So that was like, we thought
- 26:27it was funny.
- 26:28Yeah. Yeah. But I wanted to... Like, for
- 26:30all these years, we had hundreds of them
- 26:31and were like, how do you tie that
- 26:33into a book I go? I don't think
- 26:34you can. Like, it just
- 26:36the way a blog right wrote in the
- 26:38way a book rights, It's it's 2 insanely
- 26:40different things.
- 26:42And it I... Yeah. Again, it's it was
- 26:46and that... I don't know. It's... You see
- 26:48me stuttering over my words because I'm lost
- 26:49because there was the 1 thing I...
- 26:51Well, this... I'm I'm just thinking though. I
- 26:53did I... I would never have imagined.
- 26:55This is just this is just my experience
- 26:56with this book. I would never have imagined
- 26:58that all these, you know, the these these
- 27:00were written for the Atlantic. It
- 27:02not all of them, but about half of
- 27:03them written for the Atlantic they're appeared in
- 27:05the inside back page.
- 27:07And I would never imagine that getting in
- 27:08together with with a lot of the other
- 27:10stuff that I subsequently wrote in the poems
- 27:12and blah blah blah blah. All the different
- 27:14subjects would would work. But when you do
- 27:16squish stuff together, with weird things happen? You
- 27:19know what I mean, like, a bit start
- 27:20talking to each other, theme start emerging, it's
- 27:23it's quite interesting. You know, you think they're
- 27:25desperate disparate fragments. But then when you scrunch
- 27:28them up.
- 27:29You know, there's there's some energy the some
- 27:31coherent energy. My issue is some of it
- 27:33at least to this content we wrote is
- 27:34somewhat dated because we were writing job search
- 27:37and Right. Certain things like the market right
- 27:39now for technology is absolutely. Right. Whereas as
- 27:41whereas owed to my flip phone will never...
- 27:43It'll never. Rick exactly.
- 27:47No. And to be honest, I'm I don't
- 27:49wanna say... I god I wish... I can't
- 27:51do... You can't do it. Like, because there's...
- 27:53I have way... There's way too much going
- 27:54on in the day.
- 27:56And I... You know,
- 27:573 daughters, 2 of them have cell phones
- 27:59because they're teenagers. So it's like... Yeah. You
- 28:01know, my wife works at the hospital. It's
- 28:03just... It's constant. It's and then all the
- 28:06customers in work and teams going off. Teams
- 28:08is probably...
- 28:09I think if you were take a poll,
- 28:12Randy, what do you think, like, 90 percent
- 28:13of the people would burn teams to the
- 28:15ground. What team? Yeah. Team like Slack.
- 28:18Yeah. Google. Yeah.
- 28:20Well you look... So if you look at
- 28:22my life real quick, I have Teams because
- 28:24I call on Microsoft. I have tried because
- 28:27I call on Aws.
- 28:28I have Zoom because data likes to use
- 28:32Zoom and so to Salesforce. I have Google
- 28:35Meet because I call on Google.
- 28:37So like, literally, I have all of these
- 28:40different, and I have to be cognizant. So
- 28:41when I book a meeting with Google, I
- 28:43have to make sure and you use my
- 28:44Google Meet plugin and not use teams as
- 28:48default.
- 28:49Yeah.
- 28:50All the... And then I've people texting and
- 28:52calling
- 28:53and, you know, emails kinda died. I don't
- 28:55know if if anyone... Like, it's only for,
- 28:57like, really important stuff.
- 28:59But it's so much. It's... And then I
- 29:01don't use Slack. I refuse to. Randy you
- 29:05Slack don't you?
- 29:06I try to avoid it. I've... I'm a
- 29:08member of some Slack prod products that you
- 29:10Slack, but at work we use Teams.
- 29:14What do you avoid Slack?
- 29:15It's not too good. Yeah.
- 29:18I don't...
- 29:19It's kinda like the first time you... Like,
- 29:21you used to standard message forms then you
- 29:23went to reddit it, and you're, like, it
- 29:24doesn't read right. That's how I feel with
- 29:26Slack. And it's not a gooey thing because
- 29:29I don't mind new Gooey. That's, like, every
- 29:312 months in my industry, you know.
- 29:33Yeah. It's just
- 29:35it's not...
- 29:37You have to... I think you have to
- 29:38been born with it. I'm sorry. It was
- 29:40the first,
- 29:41and it's kind of riding on those coat
- 29:43tails. It hasn't really improved. And so it's
- 29:46competitors have kind of caught up and surpassed
- 29:48it. That's it's good master. Gotta it. Gotta.
- 29:50Got it. So so my my little tech
- 29:52panic was when I signed... When I clicked
- 29:53on the link here, Squad
- 29:55on my safari,
- 29:57it said, no, no. No. Gotta go and
- 29:58do Chrome, I was out shit. And then
- 30:00and then And then I panicked because Out
- 30:02I was a little bit late and done
- 30:03adapter. So, that was my tech,
- 30:05adventure for the day, switching from Safari to
- 30:07Chrome. And which?
- 30:10I will not... I refuse. I'm Chrome. I
- 30:13will... I'm just... Yeah. It's a I'm not
- 30:15giving... I'm not changing. I'm not going to
- 30:17duck. I'm not going to...
- 30:20And I'm not going to fire fire fire...
- 30:22Firefox me is making a comeback. Isn't it?
- 30:24It's... Is it really?
- 30:25I keep
- 30:26I Thank yeah. Yeah. People will keep getting
- 30:29more and more frustrated with Google.
- 30:32So
- 30:331 thing I wanna do... I don't wanna
- 30:34trash on you,
- 30:36but you brought up my my least favorite
- 30:38topic which is meditation.
- 30:41And
- 30:43I've actually Well, I've actually tried it,
- 30:46and it's pure
- 30:48like, to sit for 5 minutes in complete
- 30:52utter silence.
- 30:53Yep. Or with some shitty white noise
- 30:56Youtube thing.
- 30:58It's pure una
- 31:00hell to me.
- 31:02And then you start your mind, then I
- 31:04started thinking about emails and the phone calls
- 31:06I have to make.
- 31:07And I'm I'm not... I'm never able to
- 31:09just
- 31:10be so that I quit doing it.
- 31:13Okay. I'm gonna read you my
- 31:15please deal. It's sure. It's just a poem.
- 31:18O to meditation.
- 31:20Think no thoughts.
- 31:22Let all the brain's productions be a flow
- 31:25of shining nord.
- 31:27Be still,
- 31:28stillness is a thrill.
- 31:30Say nothing to yourself. Let words lie flat,
- 31:33like tingling swords.
- 31:35Put sex away
- 31:37you'll attend to the itch in the under
- 31:39pants
- 31:40another day.
- 31:41At this point,
- 31:43should you find yourself in a warehouse of
- 31:45mental din
- 31:47pursued by AGZ
- 31:49with 2 ravens tugging at your intestines, 1
- 31:52going 1 way, 1 going the other, and
- 31:54a red ph rising before you mute as
- 31:57an idol,
- 31:59congratulations. You're meditating.
- 32:01In other words, that's what's supposed to happen.
- 32:03You're supposed to enter this realm with complete
- 32:05flipping chaos because... Because that's when you realize
- 32:07that's that's your natural regular mind state, like
- 32:11half an inch below the surface. You what
- 32:12mean? Right. And then you... And then you
- 32:13sort of settle yourself,
- 32:15if you can,
- 32:17through that. You what I mean? And and
- 32:19and it's... It's... That's... I think the the
- 32:21real medi militaries will tell you that's that's
- 32:22the... That's... You're having the proper experience. It's
- 32:25not like you you float into Nirvana. You
- 32:27you you engage with the noise. You know?
- 32:29But you come out, like, I anticipate coming
- 32:31out with, like, a call. I use the
- 32:33call map. For it. Yeah. And it was
- 32:36just, like, know, feel through your fingers and
- 32:38through your toes. You're like,
- 32:41I don't you Or or or, you know,
- 32:43imagine imagine like a white light of love
- 32:45coming out of you, envelop your house, then
- 32:48your street in the world. I'm mean, what
- 32:50I just... I can't imagine it. None of
- 32:51these images make any sense to me. But
- 32:53the but the but the practice of sitting
- 32:55with your own sort of confusion and just
- 32:57kind of enduring it and building up a
- 32:58bit stamina for. That I think that is
- 33:00really useful. See in my in my life,
- 33:02the only things that I would ever qualify
- 33:04to, like, it's either sitting on a, doc
- 33:07an in an an chair. Oh, lovely. Or
- 33:11just sitting next to campfire fire. I think
- 33:12those are only 2 ways I could
- 33:15actually
- 33:15just like, dude... Yeah. Because, like, sitting in
- 33:18my
- 33:20business chair, you know what I mean?
- 33:22Right.
- 33:23And and close your eyes and think of
- 33:25that. Yeah. But the no yet, but the
- 33:27but there's there's some there's so much cobb
- 33:29that comes along with the discourse around it.
- 33:30Oh, yes. So Like, again, the music around
- 33:33is so terrible.
- 33:34But
- 33:35but the but the practice itself, I... You
- 33:37know, I I don't really do any anymore
- 33:38about. He's... I did it for a few
- 33:40years. And it was very instructive and in
- 33:42the end very helpful to me, I think.
- 33:44So we had about 16
- 33:46or in a row episodes about Gen a.
- 33:50Yeah. And you're... I think you're the first...
- 33:52As you see the first journalist be had
- 33:53on the show in 10 years.
- 33:55Or I wanna, like, real, like, a professional
- 33:58journalist. Maybe... I don't know.
- 34:00I don't think so, But we've had a
- 34:02couple authors, but, like, you know, I can
- 34:03say
- 34:05I put you on a pedestal for being,
- 34:07like, an actual journalist.
- 34:08What's your take or what is your industry
- 34:11or the, you know, the people that have
- 34:12been around for a while. What's your tech
- 34:14on on Jenny.
- 34:17IIII
- 34:18my thought on Ai. It is
- 34:21I'm not I'm not I'm not particularly
- 34:24scared of it yet as a as a
- 34:26writer
- 34:27because I... Because I think when it it
- 34:29my in my incredibly crude understanding of it.
- 34:31What it does is kind of, you know,
- 34:34aggregate
- 34:35the most people right and then turn that
- 34:38into a piece of writing. Right? If you
- 34:39ask it something, it's gonna it's gonna
- 34:42scope out all the zillion different sources,
- 34:44and budget them together and come up with
- 34:45something that that that resembles
- 34:48an answer that somebody might give. So if
- 34:50you... So if you're if you're using, you
- 34:53know, your own
- 34:54words and you're having your own thoughts.
- 34:57I think I think you're always gonna... You're
- 34:58always gonna, kinda,
- 35:00transcend that or or or surpass it at
- 35:02least.
- 35:04I think it's really to not just to
- 35:06hop real quick. Like, I think it's not
- 35:08It's never gonna take away from your
- 35:10profession.
- 35:11Because the way it's been telling me, like,
- 35:12code, it is like, it's your... It's like
- 35:15a c pilot. It's you're R2D2 to your
- 35:16luke Skywalker. Right? It helps you along your
- 35:18journey.
- 35:19But, like, there's there's... I get an Instagram
- 35:22at all the time Randy Don't know if
- 35:23you've seen this It's, like, a
- 35:25like, farting management and it's like, you create,
- 35:28like, a Book. You pick, like, 1 topic.
- 35:31That's like your cover. And it'll print off
- 35:32a. So it's like a gag gift. You
- 35:34can give to friends and you can on
- 35:36any stupid topic.
- 35:38It'll generate targeted ads are real way different
- 35:40than mine.
- 35:41Oh, did you have no... You don't wanna
- 35:43see my targeted ads.
- 35:47But, like, you know, you can actually just
- 35:48print and generate a book on demand now
- 35:50on any any topic and they'll write the
- 35:52whole thing for you. It's it's Yes. A
- 35:53little bit of absurd.
- 35:55Yes.
- 35:56So so I so I don't know. I
- 35:58I mean, I'm I'm I'm I'm not... I'm
- 35:59I'm not really qualified. But... But and but
- 36:01I mean, IIIIIII
- 36:04fear it in the sense that I I
- 36:05just...
- 36:06I I feel I feel it out there.
- 36:09I feel, you know, nobody don't think anybody
- 36:11really knows what the consequences of are gonna
- 36:12be. Right?
- 36:14But I think with the... Like, you're gonna
- 36:15take, let's say you,
- 36:17famous author. Let's just go Bill Shakespeare. Right?
- 36:20Yeah. And then you say, can you write,
- 36:23let's go Star Wars empire strikes back in
- 36:26the styling of Bill Shakespeare?
- 36:28Yeah. And you have a completely, like, unique
- 36:30work that, like, mimics
- 36:33this person because there's so much out.
- 36:35But I think you'd I think I think
- 36:37any... I think somebody who knew Shakespeare would
- 36:39probably be able would probably,
- 36:41you know, find some bum notes in there
- 36:43and and and and, you know, I think,
- 36:46III wouldn't I wouldn't
- 36:48I wouldn't want to credit it with understanding
- 36:50shapes.
- 36:50Can't I could credit it with with knowing
- 36:52with
- 36:53understanding his word patterns.
- 36:55But but in terms of what he's actually
- 36:57saying with those word patents.
- 36:59Auto of. I don't know. And that's the...
- 37:01It's a thing too. Like, there's an app
- 37:02called Parrot.
- 37:04Right now, you can get for free. It's,
- 37:06like Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and then
- 37:07if you pay for it, you can get
- 37:08like, 50 other people. But you can make
- 37:11them say,
- 37:13like, whatever you wanna say. Yeah. Like, you
- 37:15see it all the time, like, there's, like,
- 37:16a clip from, like, Jordan Peterson Ro are,
- 37:19like, wait a minute. They didn't say that,
- 37:21like, and they use the damn paradigm, And
- 37:23it is pretty damn close. What do we
- 37:26have when I was sn on, Randy when
- 37:28we did the 1 for Parrot with Donald
- 37:29Trump?
- 37:30It's absolutely ridiculous that was. Yeah. Yeah. But,
- 37:33like, you know, me, I've recorded what
- 37:36at least in our podcast a week for
- 37:3810 years, Like, you can pretty much make
- 37:39me say anything. And that's where it gets
- 37:41a little little you know, It is a
- 37:42bit scary. But then, you know... But then
- 37:44there's... IIII
- 37:45will I I will probably always prefer, like,
- 37:47a great Trump impression, you know, who can
- 37:50who can you know, Shay Shane Gill stuff.
- 37:52She... I was just gonna think Shane gill
- 37:53is the best. Yeah. Right? He's the best.
- 37:55Right? Yeah. I he... He's... Because his Trump
- 37:57is so
- 37:59nuanced and and strange and soft.
- 38:02And and, you know, I I like to
- 38:04think Ai is not you know, the... Yet.
- 38:07It's close. That's the thing It's it's still
- 38:09crap... It's still shitty enough where it's not.
- 38:12Yeah you know, once it gets to be
- 38:14too good, you know? Yeah. Right. You know,
- 38:16harry how do you do you you... Is
- 38:18it... Does it worry you at all? Or
- 38:20not yet.
- 38:21No. I'm not 1 of those alarm... I'm
- 38:23I'm a companion
- 38:24if. I'm not an alarm.
- 38:26I see
- 38:29like, in art. It's never gonna replace like,
- 38:32it'll...
- 38:33The shitty artwork, the little comics that it
- 38:35makes a little cartoon drawings. Like, no 1
- 38:38good. No. And it's kinda like when when
- 38:40Naps came around in metallic a complain and
- 38:42you're were, like, you don't get it, man,
- 38:44Like, no 1 was butt... Like, I had
- 38:46to buy your record. I had to buy
- 38:47your a paycheck. I to buy your cassette.
- 38:48I went to 6 year concerts. Your Goddamn
- 38:50right. I'm gonna download your shit. Yeah. That's
- 38:53how If... That's how I felt about Naps.
- 38:55Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I think that now,
- 38:57like, nothing's is gonna replicate. Like, I, I'm
- 38:59a avid comic con.
- 39:01The artwork work is it's no different than
- 39:03an grabbing the the artist. My favorite artist
- 39:06is the 1 that grabs the 10 dollar
- 39:08or starving artist painting, like the Bob Ross,
- 39:11you know, and then paints like an add
- 39:13at or a, Ufo or, like, a, Godzilla
- 39:17in the background and it made it their
- 39:19own. So like, yeah. Again, it didn't take
- 39:21away because the whole framing and all that
- 39:23was already done that doesn't change the fact
- 39:25that this is
- 39:26it's it's great.
- 39:28And I think that'll always shine through. Yeah.
- 39:30Yeah. Yeah. I'm with you. Yep. Totally.
- 39:32Awesome. Well. James Parker, the author of getting
- 39:35through the next 5 minutes, you can find
- 39:37it on Amazon We'll put it in show
- 39:38notes. I can't thank you enough for the
- 39:40time, and,
- 39:42Are you Celtic fan? I would say, congrats
- 39:44on the Celtic, but you're from london and
- 39:45so you don't care if the facility.
- 39:47Well, I just got this very boston shirt.
- 39:49But can I? I'm very... I'm very grateful
- 39:51to you guys for taking a bit of
- 39:52a chance on a on a not particularly
- 39:54tech
- 39:56guy and and and, you know, helping me
- 39:58talk about my It's kinda like bars stool
- 40:00sports talking about food it's, like, don't... You
- 40:02know, Yeah. When tech guys get together, we
- 40:03don't sit there and talk about breaches and
- 40:05tech all the. We're like, Well, right. I
- 40:06mean, before we start, we were talk about.
- 40:09Absolutely. Absolutely Yeah. So... But, yeah, James Parker.
- 40:12Definitely look up his book on Amazon It's
- 40:14definitely worth the read,
- 40:15fantastic writing skill. I I really appreciate your
- 40:18time spent on the show.
- 40:19Thank you, Bob. Thank, Randy. Alright. On behalf
- 40:21of
- 40:22myself and Randy do is all a favor,

- 40:26the hell out of here. See you next
- 40:28week. Drive careful. Beat it.
