SPEAKER_00: Hey friends, welcome to episode 114 of the Born to Create Podcast.
• 0:13
SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Kent Sanders, and this is the show where we explore the mindset, habits, and skills to help you make a bigger impact in your life and creative work.
• 0:22
SPEAKER_00: Hey, we are in the middle of a series where I'm answering some listener questions, and today's question is sent in by Mark Rabisky.
• 0:29
SPEAKER_00: Mark says, What is the balance between work, leisure, and creative endeavors?
• 0:35
SPEAKER_00: Many times my creative work is separate from those two areas.
• 0:39
SPEAKER_00: Well, Mark, thanks so much for sending in your question.
• 0:42
SPEAKER_00: And probably like a lot of my responses, I would say it depends.
• 0:46
SPEAKER_00: And I say that mainly because it depends on what your goals are and what your stage of life is.
• 0:51
SPEAKER_00: For example, if you have small kids at home, more of your time is going to be taken up with family time.
• 0:57
SPEAKER_00: And you're going to have a lot less discretionary time than, say, somebody who's an empty nester or somebody who is single and has no kids.
• 1:06
SPEAKER_00: But for me the question is not necessarily what are my limits and what things are holding me back.
• 1:11
SPEAKER_00: But a better question is what are my opportunities and what can I do with the time that I do have?
• 1:18
SPEAKER_00: The secret is making a schedule and deciding ahead of time how you're going to spend that time.
• 1:23
SPEAKER_00: And I don't really think there's such a thing as life balance.
• 1:26
SPEAKER_00: Life has ebbs and flows, and the fact of the matter is that some seasons are busier than others.
• 1:32
SPEAKER_00: So for me, it's really more about what can I do right now in my life that would help me reach my creative goals.
• 1:39
SPEAKER_00: And then it's all about deciding in advance how I'm going to spend that time and make the most of it.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_00: Also, one of my long-term goals is to live a life where I'm doing work that doesn't feel like work.
• 1:51
SPEAKER_00: And I've heard it said that our goal should be to create a life that we don't need to take a vacation from.
• 1:57
SPEAKER_00: Where we love our work so much that we go home energized instead of exhausted.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_00: That's a super interesting concept to me, and honestly, that's what my long-term goal is.
• 2:07
SPEAKER_00: To write, to create, to teach, to coach, and to do the kinds of things that energize me.
• 2:13
SPEAKER_00: And I think it's worth thinking about to set up our lives in such a way that we can't tell the difference between work and play.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: Where we're having so much fun that all of our work feels like play to some degree.
• 2:25
SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't know if that's the answer that you were looking for or if that's even a great answer, but that's how I sort of process this question.
• 2:32
SPEAKER_00: So, Mark, I hope that this is helpful.
• 2:34
SPEAKER_00: And for everybody else who's listening, I hope this has been helpful for you as well.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_00: I'd love to hear what you think about this episode, and you can do that in a couple different ways.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_00: First of all, you can leave a comment by going to KentSanders.net slash 114, or you can also go to Apple Podcasts and leave a rating and a review for the podcast as a whole.

  SPEAKER_00: I definitely appreciate it.
• 2:56
SPEAKER_00: Those ratings and reviews really help people to discover the show, and I certainly want to say thank you in advance for considering that.
• 3:03

• 3:08
