Transcript
- 0:01Hey, it is Mike. Thanks everybody for tuning in.
- 0:04This is. Meet a content creator and today
- 0:07I'm joined by Nick, also known as Boston Card Hunter, both on
- 0:10YouTube but also mostly on Instagram.
- 0:12Nick, thanks for joining me. Thanks, Mike.
- 0:14I like the the backdrop for those on audio.
- 0:18If you're not, you know, watching this, he's got the
- 0:20green monster color and you know, one of the strikeout
- 0:23sheets from from family, which is pretty sweet.
- 0:26Thank you. Yeah, it's Pedro strikeout sheet
- 0:27in fact from the late 90s that's.
- 0:29Awesome, you got to get that signed by him man.
- 0:32I would love to. I would love to.
- 0:34I used to have one that Wei mailed to me at my dorm room
- 0:37back in the late 90s. I used to do that.
- 0:40In my dorm too. At some point I got rid of it
- 0:43and then I just bought one on eBay.
- 0:44When I moved into this office few months ago, I was like, I
- 0:47got to have one of those things again and I haven't put anything
- 0:49else up on the walls. Obviously not much anyway, but
- 0:52getting there. Love it.
- 0:54So anyway, Nick, thanks for joining you.
- 0:57Are you kind of just appeared what, maybe two years ago on
- 1:01Instagram? And I can't, I don't open
- 1:02Instagram a lot, maybe three times a week, very, very
- 1:06briefly. And you're always right at the
- 1:08top of my feed. Do you have a, a reel?
- 1:10Is that what they're called Reels?
- 1:12Yeah, the videos are called Reels.
- 1:14And you, it feels like you've kind of mastered the medium of
- 1:18creating a quick reel. I don't know, are they all a
- 1:20minute or less or something? They're most of them are under
- 1:2415 seconds under. 15 seconds and most.
- 1:27People's attention span for a video in America is 8 seconds. 8
- 1:31seconds. So you have studied, you can in
- 1:33fact see in your background if anybody's on video, the YouTube
- 1:36formula is a book that you have there, which is interesting
- 1:40because I also, I love studying up on how can I get more views
- 1:45in a respectable ethical way. Of course, where some people
- 1:49aren't necessarily that way, but the, the algorithm, the formula
- 1:55is really interesting. Tell me about how did you get
- 1:58into this in the 1st place and how long ago was it?
- 2:01Well, you know, I I'm a collector 1st and I my Instagram
- 2:07used to be called 1986 Fleer NBA that.
- 2:12Very boring. You're not going to get many
- 2:13people watching. Yeah.
- 2:14Right, it's boring and I I only did that.
- 2:18To be clear, I love 86 Fleer. It's not boring to me, but it's
- 2:21going to get a very small audience.
- 2:23God. If anybody wants any man, this
- 2:25is. I started a second autograph set
- 2:27and I gave up. I've been selling these like hot
- 2:30kicks, man. So I, I was building the first
- 2:34autograph set and Instagram is a must for networking to get these
- 2:39hard cards. And so was the Facebook group
- 2:41for 86 flair with like 7000 people in it.
- 2:44That's the only reason I had it was to just take pictures of the
- 2:47TTMS, you know, stuff I'd get through the mail and those cards
- 2:52and I don't know what happened. I think maybe one day I got
- 2:56angry about something. I still remember the first time
- 2:58my face was on Instagram. I was cracking a slab in 20
- 3:02seconds or something like that. And it was the first time I ever
- 3:05like had the camera on me. And then there was sort of an
- 3:09evolution where I thought like, hey, something's bother me in
- 3:13the hobby and some things are interesting.
- 3:15Like I have a business background, so I find a lot of
- 3:19the movements of the the hobby business is fun and interesting.
- 3:22And I started to get a following that way just organically.
- 3:27I didn't really read any books or anything like that at the
- 3:29time. I was just kind of messing
- 3:30around. OK.
- 3:32And how long have you been doing this regularly?
- 3:36Regularly, I'm going to say probably a couple of years.
- 3:39So I had podcast for a while, Sports Car Madness, but it, it
- 3:44got to be too much work. And then I started kind of
- 3:48ramping up. I guess cat scanning was sort of
- 3:50the big thing that put me on the scene.
- 3:52That's when most people Remember Me.
- 3:54I, I was one of the first people that reached out to that
- 3:57company. I was like, what is, what is
- 4:00this like real? And then I had the interview
- 4:02with them where I had to retract some of the video, which is just
- 4:09crazy. And why don't you?
- 4:10Retract some of the video. Because I was asked to by the
- 4:17company and I have to respect the person I'm interviewing's
- 4:24wishes. You know, I think as, as an
- 4:27interviewer, if they tell you to take something away, it's very
- 4:31wrong to not do that. So I, I did.
- 4:34And also the reason was we had linked the CAT scanning 99.5% to
- 4:43particular breaking company, but it wasn't 100, didn't have like
- 4:48a video of the person doing it. And you know, this isn't a court
- 4:52of law. It's like a hobby.
- 4:53And I decided that was me and my decision.
- 4:57Well, and Larry too, he's part of the, you know, the pod.
- 5:01We decided like, if it's not 100%, we're not going to air
- 5:04that. So it is still still out there.
- 5:06Everybody has already drawn their own conclusions anyway, of
- 5:09course. I have some assumptions, yeah.
- 5:12So that that's when things kind of took off.
- 5:14And then then I just started calling things out that I didn't
- 5:17like. I would look at how repacks work
- 5:21and how people just getting away with murder on on whatnot.
- 5:25I would look at some of the behavior on Whatnot and some of
- 5:28the stuff they condoned with that platform that I did not
- 5:30love. I would also save people, you
- 5:33know, gosh, I've probably recovered hundreds of thousands
- 5:38of dollars of cards for people just by using the might of
- 5:42social media. You know, it's kind of like a
- 5:43watchdog with teeth and, you know, they lose a card.
- 5:48And then I'd get debut sports to admit like, yeah, we, we shipped
- 5:52a card with like chips all over it and they give them the money
- 5:54back within seconds. And I did that a lot and and
- 5:58just small cards or another great example, 2 fake Jordans
- 6:03hit the market by this guy trying to pump the market
- 6:06earlier this year. The Jordan 86 flare and 86 flare
- 6:10sticker that was signed. He bullied them through PSA.
- 6:14That's a fact because of how much volume he does in Jordan
- 6:17memorabilia and autographs. And I didn't like that.
- 6:22So I did a video that got 100,000 views and PSA
- 6:25decertified it within 5 minutes of the video.
- 6:28So I can make impacts like that. The problem, the problem was
- 6:34it's a very thankless job. I'm not, I wasn't getting, I'm
- 6:39semi retired, you know, I retired at 40 as an
- 6:41entrepreneur. I'm not getting paid for this,
- 6:44you know what I mean? And then, you know, I thought
- 6:47about the idea of like like a debt collector, you know,
- 6:50collecting a percentage, but it just didn't, it just didn't
- 6:52work. And then I decided that a lot of
- 6:55that is negative, you know, a lot of it is like takedowns and
- 7:01pressure. And I, I, I'm not that kind of
- 7:06person. Like I'm more of a positive.
- 7:09Kind of like listen to reggae, pretty chilled dude, you know,
- 7:13And I didn't like the the person I was sort of becoming or it
- 7:19even actually became hard to understand who I was, you know,
- 7:23when I woke up or, and I would get 3 to 400 DMS, you know, with
- 7:28people asking for help. I tried to filter it with like a
- 7:31subscription and people had an issue with that.
- 7:33So I got rid of that. And in the end I just said I
- 7:37don't care anymore. Like let the hobby have its
- 7:40chaos and fun and maybe somebody else would do it.
- 7:42And I still do some that really matter to me, like this Pokémon
- 7:45guy that just keeps ripping people off for hundreds of
- 7:47thousands of dollars. I'll never let him go the pokey
- 7:50fist guy cards and positivity. So I'll do a few like if they
- 7:55really matter and they're really, you know, earth
- 7:57shattering. But for now, I I guess it's been
- 8:01more about collecting, which I do a lot of.
- 8:03I'm an actual collector. Like I collect a lot of I'm like
- 8:06an NBA hoops guy, autographed guy.
- 8:09That matters a lot to me. And now I also break down the
- 8:13business side of things too. You know, I'll look at how Arena
- 8:17Club really works, how the repack value chain works, and
- 8:23but every now and then I'll get ticked off like I was with eBay
- 8:25over the last 48 hours with something they did to me on
- 8:28their authenticity program and I let them have it.
- 8:30So sometimes it will happen, but that's just me being pissed off.
- 8:34You know, do you ever hear from PSA, specifically PSA, when you
- 8:38do a takedown video on something from PSA and they then react by
- 8:42deactivating the certification, do you hear from them too?
- 8:46I don't hear as a reaction, but I will say this.
- 8:49I have a good relationship with Nat.
- 8:52We do e-mail now and then. He's been on my old show a
- 8:55couple times and I like and respect Nat a lot.
- 8:58I push psaa lot, but I like and respect him.
- 9:02Ryan, who's the president? Yeah, Ryan Hogue.
- 9:06He and I talk a lot, too. He's never been on my show.
- 9:10PR probably won't let him. They never respond critically,
- 9:14but I will. I want to give them credit.
- 9:17Nat has done a few things. Like there's actually been some
- 9:21videos that never aired because I would go to Nat and he took
- 9:25care of it, or Ryan and he took care of it.
- 9:28So many, many times they just take care of it and you never
- 9:32see the video. And you know, I'm thankful for
- 9:35that. So I still have a pretty good
- 9:37relationship. It's a balance, right?
- 9:38Like I want the relationships with people like the leaders in
- 9:41the space, but I also want to make sure everything's fair and
- 9:45I I want to be able to critique them as well.
- 9:47So I'm not just like like a big cheerleader or whatever.
- 9:52So the feedback loops there. I've done content with Ryan
- 9:55where we submitted a star Jordan 101 I bought at the national
- 10:00raw. It's a big gamble.
- 10:03And I submitted it with the four hour service through him and it
- 10:05passed and we did like a cool video about that that went that
- 10:09went viral and stuff. And, you know, I'll give him
- 10:12advice too on things that I feel like I know more about than
- 10:15maybe their own authenticators, which is like certain 86 Fleer
- 10:19autographs just 'cause I'm such a hound with those.
- 10:22And he, he takes my advice into account and, and puts me in
- 10:26touch with like the right people there.
- 10:28So it's been actually a good relationship, but they never
- 10:31have responded to like, like, here's a video.
- 10:34This is why we did it. But you see the things happen,
- 10:37you know? Yeah, So Nat and Ryan always
- 10:40ignore me. I'll message them and say, hey,
- 10:43can you tell me why you did this or why did this get certified?
- 10:46And they will completely ignore me both on Instagram and
- 10:49Twitter. And then I'll put the video out
- 10:52and they will decertify within an hour of me posting the video
- 10:56and going on Twitter. And they'll never say a word
- 11:01about it. And it's bizarre.
- 11:04Whereas like I'll have issues with Golden and they'll respond
- 11:07to me and they'll, you know, they want to smooth it over.
- 11:10I'll have issues with some other companies.
- 11:12I won't have them, but I'll, I'll go to them and be like,
- 11:14hey, help me understand this. And PSA just never responds to
- 11:19any of it. They will decertify in almost
- 11:22every case. There's one card that they will
- 11:23not decertify even though there's clear evidence that it's
- 11:26trimmed. The 1st T2O6.
- 11:28Just kidding. We know that one is they offered
- 11:31to buy it back. No, this is a Independence Day,
- 11:33Shohei Otani that is numbered and clearly trimmed.
- 11:36I mean. There's a there's a reason for
- 11:38that, right? Like the PR team has trained
- 11:40executives of this multi billion dollar company, anything that
- 11:44they say in the DM or respond to can be held against them for a
- 11:48decade. Like Nat not liking up charges
- 11:5212 years ago. That was not 12 years ago.
- 11:54He created his account 12 years ago.
- 11:56That was from 2019. OK, so the.
- 11:59Dates. The dates confuse a lot of
- 12:01people because it says member since 2013, but above that is
- 12:06the date of the. Post which was just.
- 12:08Six years ago and it was that was.
- 12:10On blow off and he'll never live it down like I did a post about
- 12:14it. I was new to me this year.
- 12:17It was new to me a month ago. Exactly.
- 12:19So it's, that's the problem. It's it's high risk.
- 12:23There has to be a level of trust there.
- 12:24I would never like I would never air Adm.
- 12:28No no no. Actually I think that probably
- 12:30violates doxing laws in Massachusetts to be honest.
- 12:33But I would never on principle ever air something that was
- 12:36shared like through text or DM, and I never have without their.
- 12:39Permission, right? Yeah, no, unless, yeah, unless
- 12:41they say yes, you can share this or you can share this
- 12:43anonymously and then I'll clip it.
- 12:45I've done that many times. But I'll never just like share
- 12:48Adm without without that, because you have to have trust
- 12:51with people in the space. You're never going to like get
- 12:52things done or have productive relationships, you know?
- 12:55Yeah, agreed. So do you, and I know you just
- 13:01worked out a relationship with Hollywood Joe as that wasn't Joe
- 13:05Hollywood. Joe Hollywood.
- 13:06Yeah, I mean, this is, this is amazing.
- 13:08Like I was a punk'd in it. You raised over $100,000 for
- 13:12Boston Children's. Hospital in 2 1/2 hours.
- 13:14I I I told the team at Children's.
- 13:16I said my goal is 10 grand because I had a box of two. 2012
- 13:21Prism basketball and Joe did the sky box, the row one, I forget
- 13:29the name of the the box. And you know, I thought like
- 13:33maybe 20 if we get like some really happy people tipping and
- 13:36stuff like that. And we had a representative
- 13:39there that was very important. I wanted to know, make sure
- 13:41people knew that this was on the up and up.
- 13:44And I, I shared the document on my Instagrams, you know, saying
- 13:47we're all registered and everything.
- 13:49And I just couldn't believe, you know, like, yeah, I've got an
- 13:55Instagram audience. But Joe has, you know, he just
- 13:58turns it on and there's, there's 1200 people in that room from
- 14:02Australia to New Zealand to, you know, Canada.
- 14:05And, you know, they're just watching this come through.
- 14:08We, we didn't even start opening packs and we had like $5000
- 14:13raised and they were getting the cards.
- 14:15Like me and Joe bought the cards of their own money.
- 14:18We spent all the money on the wax.
- 14:19And I had some of my friends bring stuff for the giveaways
- 14:22and it just people were just like really generous.
- 14:27It was, it was probably one of the most meaningful nights of my
- 14:31life. Like up there with like children
- 14:32and being born and like, like, 'cause this, this hospital
- 14:36matters a lot to my family. I won't get into the details,
- 14:38but it does. And like having a Rep there, She
- 14:41so like, she's like, all right, sports cards sounds cool.
- 14:45I'm gonna, I'm gonna hang out for like 15 minutes and then I'm
- 14:47gonna go, you know, and then she didn't leave, you know, she and,
- 14:50and so we started racking it up and we're doing it at card
- 14:54Vault, which is half owned by Tom Brady, Chris Costa, the
- 14:58owner of Facetimes me. He's like, let's give away a
- 15:00meet and greet with Brady and, and, and sign something of your
- 15:04choice. And that went for like 10,500
- 15:07bucks. And so we had, we had raised
- 15:11like 40 grand by the two hour mark.
- 15:15And then a donor popped into the chat.
- 15:19It was like, we're just gonna, we're gonna write a check for 50
- 15:21grand and is. This a person public.
- 15:24Yeah, yeah, it's a, it's a fund. Gosh, I wish I had his name off
- 15:28the top of my head. It's it's it's named after him
- 15:30and his wife. He's never donated this much
- 15:33before, but he he donates a lot on Joe's shows.
- 15:36And Babe BB Beatrice, who was the Rep, she was just moved to
- 15:40tears, you know, and that brought us to 90.
- 15:44And then by the end of the night, we rounded it out.
- 15:46We had 100 grand. We actually transferred the
- 15:48funds on Wednesday this week at the hospital and we were there
- 15:52and people don't even know this week we got like 500 packs from
- 15:57junk wax to modern that I'm not going to do it because of an
- 16:01autoimmune thing, but Joe's going to hand help hand out to
- 16:04the kids who are stuck there long term.
- 16:07And they're going to have like Pokémon 2 obviously cause kids
- 16:10like Pokémon. And so we did that too to also
- 16:12like money's going to research. But now we also have packs for
- 16:15kids. But yeah, we raised 100 grand
- 16:17basically out of thin air in 2 1/2 hours.
- 16:20And we're probably going to do something even bigger like next
- 16:23year and try to go for 250 maybe for Children's Hospital,
- 16:27whatever. But it was they, they thought I
- 16:29was crazy like sports cut what? And I tried to explain breaking
- 16:33to them, and they just didn't get it until they saw it.
- 16:37And then they were like, whoa, you know?
- 16:39So you also had a party at the National and Michael Rubin
- 16:43showed up. Tell me about how that came
- 16:44about. Yeah, I've been public with,
- 16:48with some of this. I, I can't say a lot of it, but
- 16:51I was very vocal about fanatics last year and I, you know, I
- 16:56didn't like a lot of the things they were doing.
- 16:58And eventually Michael Rubin DM Ed me in like January.
- 17:02So just come down to New York and just hang out.
- 17:05And so I hung out with the leadership team there and then
- 17:11it was a good conversation. Like he was kind of like, well,
- 17:13what am I doing wrong? You know what?
- 17:16Why don't people like fanatics? And I asked him tough questions
- 17:19too. I'm like, are you gonna keep
- 17:21tops, you know, before, before the IPO, Are you just gonna like
- 17:25ditch it? And he said he's gonna die with
- 17:27tops. Like he said that to me.
- 17:30And I was like, wow, OK. And then I had follow on
- 17:32meetings cause not every executive there liked me very
- 17:36much at that point in time. But I met with, you know, the
- 17:40other leadership like Mike Mahan and others and started to
- 17:45developed some chemistry and I ultimately helped them with the
- 17:50Museum of Greatness at Fanatics Fest because I have an audience
- 17:55and I tapped into that audience to find some cool cards to
- 17:58display and show off at that, which I thought was pretty
- 18:01awesome. That was kind of like a warm up.
- 18:04And then, you know, I don't know, the audience probably
- 18:06knows. I was a consultant for a number
- 18:08of years from finance to marketing to strategy to
- 18:11everything. And they started to see me as a
- 18:15valuable resource, not only with the hobby knowledge, but
- 18:17business knowledge. And I started doing consulting
- 18:21for them. I'm pretty open, but I've
- 18:22already said this before, like I've just helped them with
- 18:25everything from digital marketing to, you know, new
- 18:29customer acquisition initiatives and stuff like that.
- 18:32And so Michael and I have been pretty close.
- 18:34We still are pretty close. We talk a lot and you know, he
- 18:38was kind of down to come to the party, but I, I also, I had some
- 18:41meaning behind it too. Like well, we also raised 10
- 18:45grand for children's at our party, which was pretty awesome.
- 18:48But I had him, I bought a couple of 86 flier packs and we opened
- 18:53a box of skybox metal, you know, like a, the big boy, you know,
- 18:58like the nice box, the Joaquim shout out to him.
- 19:01You know, he was going to open it anyway and he did that at our
- 19:04party. So the two 2 packs were duds.
- 19:06That was annoying. The skybox metal, you know,
- 19:10wasn't, wasn't great, but it was funny for Michael Rubin to see
- 19:14the evolution of innovation from 1986 to 1997.
- 19:19And then when he was opening the metal, he's like, it's really
- 19:22hard to tell what's a good card and not a good card.
- 19:24They all look so good, you know, And it was, it was kind of cool
- 19:29to get his perspective on the manufacturing and the evolution
- 19:32of cards. And then I got him to spill the
- 19:35beans on like whether there's a Cooper flag, you know, debut
- 19:37patch at the time and stuff like that.
- 19:39And it was fun. We hung out.
- 19:41It wasn't just him there. Mike Mahan was there, some
- 19:45other, you know, the chief PR guy was there, a few other
- 19:48people from the leadership team. So it was just like having a
- 19:50good time. And then the coolest moment was
- 19:52we're going to open a pack of contenders, Brady's rookie year,
- 19:56and we were about to crack it. Jason Koontz supplied the pack.
- 20:01And Michael goes, we're calling inaudible.
- 20:03We're going to have Brady open this tomorrow.
- 20:05And then my brother-in-law, Larry, the other half of Sports
- 20:09Car Madness, he opened the pack with Brady on stage the next
- 20:13day. Of course, we got nothing, but
- 20:15we just had horrible luck with packs.
- 20:17But it was fun. So yeah, I mean, I'm doing
- 20:20things with fanatics and and I'm kind of close to those guys now.
- 20:23It's it's kind of a good lesson to it's easy to critique people
- 20:27on social media and it's easy to have a comment war and it's easy
- 20:30to like think about somebody in the context of like an 8 second
- 20:32sound bite. What's hard, and Joe Rogan has
- 20:35said this before, what's hard is to sit down with somebody for
- 20:38two hours and talk about their hopes and dreams and thoughts
- 20:42about the world And most people that you dislike on social
- 20:46media. I'm sure a lot of people hate
- 20:47me. If you sat down me with a beer
- 20:49for a couple hours, we'd be cool and we would find some common
- 20:53ground, you know? And that's kind of how I viewed
- 20:55the relationship with them. Yeah.
- 20:58You know, I, when my channel was small, I used to just say
- 21:01whatever I wanted because that was important to me.
- 21:04And then I remember what there was a time where I said
- 21:07something about somebody and it got back to them and they
- 21:11watched. In fact, this happened with you
- 21:12one time where I said something fairly innocuous about you and I
- 21:17had heard you say something about going to South America.
- 21:20Oh yes, on Twitter I saw that and I liked and respected you,
- 21:22so I wanted to talk to you about it.
- 21:24Yeah, yes. And you reached out to me and
- 21:26we, I don't remember what happened, but cleared the air.
- 21:30But that was fairly early on in my, I hate to say YouTube
- 21:34journey, but I, I learned a lot from that type of thing where
- 21:38there were two or three of those where I was like, man, I need to
- 21:41be more careful about what I say without giving it some thought
- 21:451st. And I'm much more thoughtful
- 21:47when I'm critical of somebody. Now I'm much more thoughtful
- 21:49about it than I used to be, partially thanks to you, but
- 21:52also there were a couple of other things where I was just
- 21:54like, that didn't feel good. That wasn't the best thing I did
- 22:00there. And I know you're short on.
- 22:02Time here, I don't even exchange DMS that much anymore because so
- 22:05many people are just trying to, they're trying to bait me, you
- 22:09know, basically whatever I say in Adm now I have to pretend
- 22:12it's on like national CNN news. And then if I'm OK with that,
- 22:16then I'll send it, yeah. I know you're short on time.
- 22:20I appreciate you coming in. Tell me about your collection
- 22:23'cause I know you have a massive 86 Fleer too.
- 22:26You're working on your second 86 Fleer autograph.
- 22:28I was and then I just got like pissed off and how hard it is
- 22:31and how high the prices have climbed on the deceased players,
- 22:34which I can't do anything about. Dennis Johnson is not gonna
- 22:37let's have a, an Ouija board and a Gypsy.
- 22:39Like Dennis Johnson's not going to sign my card.
- 22:42So like, and there's a lot, there's like 25 deceased player,
- 22:4530, you know, deceased players now.
- 22:47And they're just so expensive or like people like Andrew Tony who
- 22:52are just, they're just never going to sign a card.
- 22:54So I looked at it and I'm just like, this is diminishing
- 22:57returns. So I'm merging them into what's
- 22:59going to be like a really nice. So I have the base and sticker
- 23:04set autographed and dual graded in APSA slab.
- 23:10The only one that sticks out like a sore thumb is the Jordan
- 23:12base, which isn't a Beckett's slab.
- 23:14I've tried to cross it didn't work out but yeah, what
- 23:17happened? What's that?
- 23:19Why didn't it work out? Well, it, it passed Beckett, and
- 23:23I know the source is good 'cause I bought like 10 MJ autographs
- 23:25off of him. He got him in like 8889 and they
- 23:27all pass. But it's sloppy.
- 23:29It's it's signed really quick. He had a magazine in one hand
- 23:32and was going like this and PSA didn't fail it.
- 23:36They just said inconclusive and refunded, you know, which
- 23:38thankfully, because it was like an expensive cross.
- 23:42So you know, it didn't it didn't.
- 23:45I might, I may try again. They have more knowledge, you
- 23:47know, their knowledge evolves about you know, Jordan's auto
- 23:49database. That's that's probably like my
- 23:52favorite thing. I've got the other thing, which
- 23:56is nuts. The next project, yeah, 69 tops
- 24:00NBA. I've got that whole set
- 24:01autograph, man. It's.
- 24:03Crazy. Two of them are cuts, Guy Rogers
- 24:06and Bill Bridges. I I had the opportunity to buy a
- 24:08guy Guy Rogers like a week ago and it was just too much and I
- 24:12let my friend have it. I that set has angered me enough
- 24:17to put together where I'm probably going to auction it
- 24:19off. So just like so mad at it.
- 24:24It was not a fun 86 flair. Took me 4 months.
- 24:27This is like 2 year, 2 1/2 years and running.
- 24:30I mean, half the guys are dead, you know.
- 24:33So there's just like sourcing this stuff.
- 24:35These are POP1POP0 in some cases cards.
- 24:39But I got it done. It's all Beckett and PSA slabbed
- 24:42and I got 2 cuts. So that's, that's crazy.
- 24:46And then I have a I've been getting into Pokémon with my
- 24:50son. I have the 1st edition shadow
- 24:52lists. PSA 9 are higher set.
- 24:56I've only got like 5 left. I've got the Charizard so that's
- 25:00kind of fun. I looked at the Pokémon market
- 25:03and I made a good call. Like I bought most of the
- 25:05hollows in February and they've they've like doubled since then.
- 25:09I'm not selling that though. These are things I'm not they're
- 25:11going down in the family to whatever.
- 25:15And then one really cool one which you'll like 'cause you're
- 25:18a junk wax guy, is I'm building a skybox prototype set because I
- 25:24think that's a hidden gem. You mean the first year of
- 25:27skybox? No, see, you might not even know
- 25:29about this. So I hate to spill the beans,
- 25:31but so everybody knows Skybox that's. 1990 was the first year
- 25:36of skybox basketball. So they sent out to 2000 card
- 25:41shops prototype set. So it's got a red protostripe
- 25:45prototype bar across the top, It's MJ, David Robinson, like
- 25:49few star players and then a few regular players just where they
- 25:51fell on the sheet that got cut and some announcer cards and
- 25:55they were just trying to sell Skybox to the shops.
- 25:58There are less than less of these than there are star cards.
- 26:01And people don't realize it because they think Skybox junk,
- 26:03Skybox junk. And I have slowly been building
- 26:07the autograph set of these and it's really cool looking so far.
- 26:13So I highly recommend people like look at that.
- 26:14So that's another thing. I'm an autograph guy.
- 26:17Like I have the Goonies set and I'm autographing that 8585
- 26:21Goonies. Yeah, I've actually got sealed
- 26:24wax right, right above my B right there.
- 26:27That's a sealed Goonie 1985 next to the 86 FLIR.
- 26:31I love the Goonies cards. I Love Goonies is a top five
- 26:34movie of all time for me, and Greg of Greg of Midlife Cards
- 26:38has been buying up the autographs of 85 Goonies too,
- 26:40and it makes me really want to. But they're surprisingly pricey.
- 26:44I've got a few through the mail for free.
- 26:47Kelly K Kwan, I got lucky. Chunk does not sign.
- 26:50He did like a signing like 10 years ago.
- 26:52He's like a very wealthy entertainment attorney, right?
- 26:55Some of the gals sign. They're in, like, theater groups
- 26:58and stuff like that and go through their agency.
- 27:01Sloth's not here anymore. Josh Brolin will sign, you know,
- 27:04he charges whatever, 3400 bucks every Comic Con to sign, you
- 27:08know, Thanos and like all the other things and he'll sign
- 27:11that. And, oh, and, you know, Mikey
- 27:14from The Goonies, I had him sign at a comic, you know, Comic Con
- 27:18Boston. Like, he'll, you know, Sean
- 27:20Astin, like, he'll sign them too.
- 27:21So, you know, it's not terrible. Like, you can get it done piece
- 27:24by piece, but that's just like a passion project.
- 27:26It's not, you know, whatever. But yeah.
- 27:29That's a blast. Yeah, I I have a Goonies wax
- 27:33wrapper and that's all that's the best I've got from the
- 27:35Goonies cuz it just hasn't been a priority for me.
- 27:38I know at some point I'm gonna want more Goonies stuff, more
- 27:40non sports stuff, but. It's a good movie, man.
- 27:43It's a great movie. My kids love it too.
- 27:46Yeah, yeah, mine too. Nick, this has been great.
- 27:50I appreciate you coming on and giving me a little extra time
- 27:53here. Of course, I think that what you
- 27:56do is valuable. The, the, the short reels, the
- 28:01quick hitters. Every time I told you, every
- 28:05time I open Instagram, there's Nick's face and it's easily
- 28:09consumed. It's easy to understand.
- 28:11And I get a lot of pictures from people asking me, you got to do
- 28:14a, a video on this or you have to add this into your Sunday
- 28:17clearing the bases episode. And I have to explain to them
- 28:20it's this is not easy to understand.
- 28:22And if it's not easy for me to understand and I can't explain
- 28:25it well and it's going to be a terrible video or a terrible
- 28:28piece of video, and I think you've got that down pat, the
- 28:33this is easy to understand. I can I can make this simple for
- 28:37people which is super important to make it consumable.
- 28:41Yeah, in 15 seconds with music and.
- 28:45Yeah, and a little B roll too. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:48That's true. That's true.
- 28:50Yeah. Thanks man.
- 28:52Well, this is great. I appreciate talking to you.
- 28:54Yeah, where can people find you? Boston Card Hunter on Instagram
- 28:59and I've got a YouTube channel now that I'm almost at like 500
- 29:02followers in couple of couple of months.
- 29:05It's really just five 5-10 minute rants.
- 29:09It's like the Instagram is the 10 second version.
- 29:12And then a lot of people are like please elaborate.
- 29:15So like I'll do like a 5 minute version on the YouTube channel,
- 29:18but it's all Boston Card Hunter. I'm on Tiktok too.
- 29:21TikTok I have never been on tik. T.O.K, it's just yeah, it's the
- 29:24same videos as Instagram so. OK.
- 29:27All right, Nick. Thanks everybody.
- 29:29Go check out Nick, especially on Instagram, but also on YouTube
- 29:33at Boston Card Hunter. Thanks again, Nick.
- 29:36I'll see you after we end here.
