- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast.
- 0:06Speaker 2: This is spoil Me, covering one piece episodes eight thirty
- 0:13Speaker 2: six through eight thirty eight, Mom's Secret, The Giants, Island,
- 0:19Speaker 2: Elbaf and a Little Monster, The Birth of Mom, The
- 0:24Speaker 2: Day that Carmel vanished, and Launcher Blasts the moment of
- 0:29Speaker 2: Big Mom's assassination. In these episodes, I was advised to
- 0:37Speaker 2: watch this section twice because there is a lot happening.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I didn't have to because I was very, very engaged
- 0:47Speaker 2: and I think I know what happened to Carmel.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Welcome to spoil Me.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:20Speaker 2: very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. I am
- 1:24Speaker 2: here live on Patreon for the first time doing one
- 1:27Speaker 2: of the spoil mes, so I am excited about that.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Welcome to Florian, Michael, and Saraphim, who are in the chat.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Y'all.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I understand why Florine advised me to watch it twice,
- 1:40Speaker 2: because I won't lie.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I nearly missed it.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I came really close to like not quite getting it,
- 1:49Speaker 2: and it was so funny because it was like I
- 1:52Speaker 2: watched this last night and I was like, Okay, I'll
- 1:54Speaker 2: watch it again tomorrow before recording, and the only question
- 2:00Speaker 2: and that I had was like, how did she get
- 2:03Speaker 2: her devil fruit powers?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Though?
- 2:05Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden, I remembered the weird
- 2:09Speaker 2: like remains and I realized and I was like, oh
- 2:15Speaker 2: my god, this is such a bizarre story, y'all. It's like,
- 2:24Speaker 2: it's it's such a it's so strange because it's sort
- 2:29Speaker 2: of like towing the line between a couple of different
- 2:34Speaker 2: like tropes of origins of villains, where you know, sometimes
- 2:40Speaker 2: you'll have this sort of psychological profile where it feels
- 2:44Speaker 2: very much like the author is trying to say they
- 2:47Speaker 2: had no choice but to become a villain because of
- 2:50Speaker 2: the terrible things that happened to them in their past,
- 2:52Speaker 2: which I always called bullshit on but you know.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Or it'll be, oh, they were like born totally abnormal
- 2:59Speaker 3: and under like never really had humanity in them at
- 3:03Speaker 3: all or cared about anybody else, and they just didn't
- 3:06Speaker 3: feel and so they couldn't really connect to people on
- 3:09Speaker 3: that level, and therefore there was a sort of like
- 3:13Speaker 3: disconnect with their humanity entirely. And what's going on with
- 3:19Speaker 3: Mom's origin is a strange sort of combo of like
- 3:24Speaker 3: terrible things happened to her, but also she's really fucked up,
- 3:28Speaker 3: but also she does care and feel for people, but
- 3:32Speaker 3: there are times where that's just like gone from who
- 3:35Speaker 3: she is. And does she deserve forgiveness, does she deserve
- 3:40Speaker 3: a second chance? And if if somebody like there's just
- 3:46Speaker 3: like a lot of questions about how much control is there.
- 3:50Speaker 2: For her or potential for control. If circumstances had been different,
- 3:55Speaker 2: would she have potentially been in a position where she
- 3:57Speaker 2: could have been less destructive or found a way through,
- 4:02Speaker 2: or if they if she hadn't been adopted by a
- 4:04Speaker 2: group of people that insisted on fasting for twelve days,
- 4:07Speaker 2: which I will admit I think is frankly insane, but whatever,
- 4:12Speaker 2: I like, there's a lot of tropes where it feels like,
- 4:18Speaker 2: if X and Y had gone slightly differently, none of
- 4:22Speaker 2: this probably would have even happened. But with Big Mom,
- 4:26Speaker 2: it sort of feels like X and Y aren't really
- 4:30Speaker 2: the problem. X and Y just revealed something that probably
- 4:34Speaker 2: would have wound up being an issue in some other
- 4:36Speaker 2: way eventually regardless, and it just brought it to the
- 4:41Speaker 2: surface at that point. But it would have been surfacing,
- 4:46Speaker 2: you know, no matter what anybody did, because this is
- 4:48Speaker 2: just part of who she is. So it's a it's
- 4:53Speaker 2: a weird sort of combination of nature and nurture and
- 5:04Speaker 2: you know, a lot of feelings of simply happenstance, and
- 5:06Speaker 2: like this chick was just like born bad and not
- 5:11Speaker 2: bad in the way that one thinks of when you
- 5:13Speaker 2: think of that, like the good Son or something where
- 5:16Speaker 2: you're just out here willing to wreck people's lives. It's
- 5:19Speaker 2: like she just genuinely doesn't seem able to read what's
- 5:24Speaker 2: going on with the people around her, and she cares
- 5:27Speaker 2: about them on a certain level, but the things that
- 5:29Speaker 2: would normally signal for us, hey this is like appropriate
- 5:34Speaker 2: or inappropriate based on their reactions, it's not coming through
- 5:38Speaker 2: for her.
- 5:38Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It's just it's a real weird one, y'all. So Okay,
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'm gonna kind of start at the beginning just talking
- 5:47Speaker 2: about her flashback, because we sort of go back and
- 5:49Speaker 2: forth a little between the flashbacks and what's happening in
- 5:53Speaker 2: the present. But really what's happening in the present.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Is almost nothing.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Like I do get the launching of these like rocket
- 6:03Speaker 2: things at her, We see that she has crashed to
- 6:05Speaker 2: her knees and that there is blood, so she has
- 6:08Speaker 2: finally reached a point where she's genuinely vulnerable. But it's
- 6:14Speaker 2: not the like this is something that happens right at
- 6:19Speaker 2: the end of the third of these three episodes, and
- 6:22Speaker 2: I expect we will have a lot more touching base
- 6:25Speaker 2: on all that in the next section. So I'm going
- 6:29Speaker 2: to pretty much entirely focus on her flashback storyline here.
- 6:36Speaker 2: So we start off with her being brought to this
- 6:40Speaker 2: island by her parents, and I'm not understanding how she's
- 6:44Speaker 2: a giant when her parents aren't. I don't know if
- 6:47Speaker 2: there is a further story to this. It's very funny, y'all.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Whenever we get the like flashbacks to people's histories, it
- 6:57Speaker 2: really seems like for almost every buddy, their parents are
- 7:01Speaker 2: not part of the equation in the main flashback, like
- 7:07Speaker 2: you know flashbacks with Loofy, his parents aren't even around.
- 7:09Speaker 1: They're not part of things.
- 7:11Speaker 2: It's it's Shanks that he's hanging out with and taking
- 7:15Speaker 2: his cues from and whatever.
- 7:17Speaker 1: When we're with Zorro, you know.
- 7:20Speaker 2: He has somehow like walked away from wherever he's originally
- 7:24Speaker 2: from and just come to this village Oosup's dad, it's
- 7:28Speaker 2: like his mother's around, but his dad is who knows
- 7:31Speaker 2: where Nanny is adopted, But I would say she's got
- 7:35Speaker 2: the most involved parent in her flashback storyline. And it's
- 7:40Speaker 2: just like, you know, eventually with Sanji, we get more
- 7:43Speaker 2: about what's going on with his family, but it takes
- 7:46Speaker 2: a long time for us to get there. And I
- 7:48Speaker 2: am real curious what, like, if anything, we're going to
- 7:51Speaker 2: find out further about where Zoro's from, or where Lufy's from,
- 7:56Speaker 2: or even potentially Nanny's parents, if there's something further that,
- 8:00Speaker 2: although I suspect not, but you know, I could definitely
- 8:03Speaker 2: be wrong, So I just, uh, yeah, no, I know,
- 8:10Speaker 2: Sarahram says Usup's dad is off being a dead beat
- 8:12Speaker 2: dad pirate.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I when I said he's like fuck knows where,
- 8:16Speaker 1: I didn't mean like we don't know who he's with.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I mean we literally don't know where because he's just
- 8:21Speaker 2: like out on the high seas doing god knows what.
- 8:24Speaker 2: But yeah, so the the flashback here, it's like technically, yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 2: we start off with her parents, but we don't really
- 8:35Speaker 2: get anything about them besides them abandoning her here the
- 8:39Speaker 2: way that they do, and Initially, what I kind of
- 8:45Speaker 2: thought was happening because they they bring her with a
- 8:48Speaker 2: backpack full of treats, and they tell her that her
- 8:52Speaker 2: dad has some jobs to do and she's not allowed
- 8:54Speaker 2: to come with them, but if she'll just wait here,
- 8:57Speaker 2: she can eat all of the treats in her and
- 9:01Speaker 2: they'll be back before she knows it. And there's a
- 9:05Speaker 2: certain like hectic, hyper quality to the way her parents
- 9:11Speaker 2: are trying to tell her to stay here.
- 9:13Speaker 1: That was certainly setting off my alarm bells.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But what I sort of thought was going to be
- 9:20Speaker 2: revealed was that maybe she ate so much that it
- 9:23Speaker 2: was impossible for them to even house her, you know
- 9:27Speaker 2: what I mean, that she was sort of this insatiable maniac,
- 9:31Speaker 2: And like, that's certainly an aspect of what's going on
- 9:35Speaker 2: with her, but it's not the only thing, and it's.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I would argue, not even really the primary thing.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It's one thing to say like she's eating us out
- 9:46Speaker 2: a house and home and we can't afford to keep her,
- 9:50Speaker 2: And it's another thing for it's like she's eating us
- 9:52Speaker 2: out of house and home, and if we don't feed her,
- 9:54Speaker 2: she turns into a destructive maniac with hyper strength and
- 10:00Speaker 2: just know, like she goes into a fugue state where
- 10:02Speaker 2: she has no memory of what she's done.
- 10:04Speaker 1: It's it's just it's just different, you know what I'm saying.
- 10:08Speaker 2: So they leave her and we have this, like, you know,
- 10:13Speaker 2: pretty awful sequence of her waiting for her parents and
- 10:17Speaker 2: wondering where they are. And she's really very endearing in
- 10:25Speaker 2: her weird way, you know. So you're watching her realizing
- 10:30Speaker 2: that they're not coming back and wondering what the fuck.
- 10:33Speaker 2: And then we sort of jump over to the island
- 10:37Speaker 2: of El feb Where is that how you say it?
- 10:40Speaker 2: Where she is taken.
- 10:43Speaker 1: In El Bath. I got it backwards.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And she I think I was thinking about wicked El Faba.
- 10:54Speaker 2: So she we don't really see like how she gets
- 10:58Speaker 2: over there to this place, but we do get to
- 11:01Speaker 2: see the history of what went down with a bunch
- 11:04Speaker 2: of the giants and why a lot of people have difficulty.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Trusting giants, and like the whole.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Thing with Mother Carmel. So she is the saint like
- 11:17Speaker 2: figure initially that is eventually revealed to be no good,
- 11:24Speaker 2: which is pretty great. I didn't see it coming.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I really should have, but I didn't.
- 11:30Speaker 2: It was a fun reveal that one caught me genuinely
- 11:33Speaker 2: off guard. For a moment, I thought it was going
- 11:35Speaker 2: to be okay. She's just gotten sick of this work
- 11:39Speaker 2: and is turning the corner because she wants out and
- 11:42Speaker 2: this bitch is proving to be too much for her.
- 11:45Speaker 2: But no, it turns out she's just been doing this
- 11:47Speaker 2: the whole time. So we see the giants who you know,
- 11:53Speaker 2: begin to go out and you know, rape and pillage essentially,
- 11:58Speaker 2: and actually the last of them are set to be executed.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And Mother Carmela is the one who.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Steps up and is like, if we execute them, we're
- 12:09Speaker 2: going to be starting this cycle. Let's forgive them and
- 12:12Speaker 2: let's you know, leave them to me. I will take
- 12:17Speaker 2: them under my wing and ensure that they don't get
- 12:22Speaker 2: into any further trouble. And this results in her establishing
- 12:28Speaker 2: this community essentially, and giants are definitely a part of it,
- 12:33Speaker 2: but as we see later, it's also an orphanage for
- 12:38Speaker 2: regular children as well, and somehow Lulu finds her way there. Linlan,
- 12:46Speaker 2: I keep wanting to say, Lulu, I've been doing that.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And the kids aren't as afraid of her as they
- 12:55Speaker 2: might otherwise be because they are exposed to giants regularly,
- 13:01Speaker 2: so they react fairly well, you know, they're just like, damn,
- 13:04Speaker 2: she'd big, but it's not like running and screaming. But
- 13:10Speaker 2: then we begin to see the way that she's like
- 13:15Speaker 2: engaging with people is alarming. The first instance of this
- 13:23Speaker 2: is there are like a couple of wild animals, a
- 13:27Speaker 2: bear and a wolf, and she sees them like fighting
- 13:34Speaker 2: and decides that I'll put them in a cage together
- 13:38Speaker 2: because fighting is bad and if they're forced together that
- 13:42Speaker 2: they will figure out a way to coexist, which is
- 13:46Speaker 2: honestly like in the spirit of what it seems, Aunt Carmelo,
- 13:51Speaker 2: Mother Carmel is like preaching, but is just a very
- 13:57Speaker 2: wrong headed approach to that. And when she comes back
- 14:02Speaker 2: and looks in the cage, the bear is still alive
- 14:06Speaker 2: and has killed the wolf. She gets upset at the
- 14:09Speaker 2: bear and slaps him to try and teach him that
- 14:12Speaker 2: doing that is wrong, ironically killing the bear in a
- 14:17Speaker 2: single blow, which when Carmel sees that, she is just like,
- 14:23Speaker 2: holy shit, one hit, that's all it took. And in
- 14:29Speaker 2: retrospect you can see this is where the gears really
- 14:32Speaker 2: start turning for her. So she's just like starting to
- 14:37Speaker 2: be like, oh, damn, this is this might be something actually,
- 14:41Speaker 2: And then we get a sequence of incidents where Carmel
- 14:48Speaker 2: keeps coming across a crying child who has been caught
- 14:54Speaker 2: up in the grip of lin Ln, and Linln is
- 14:58Speaker 2: claiming that she is trying to help. First, it's like
- 15:02Speaker 2: a long arm kid and she's like, oh, he has
- 15:04Speaker 2: a second elbow and I'm trying to straighten his arm out.
- 15:07Speaker 2: The other kid is h he's a fish man and
- 15:10Speaker 2: so he's got fins, and she's like, I thought i'd
- 15:12Speaker 2: help him by ripping them off, and there's like a
- 15:16Speaker 2: bunch of It just feels very bizarre because again it's
- 15:23Speaker 2: Carmel keeps saying but she means well, And when you
- 15:28Speaker 2: have the context later of her being potentially able to
- 15:32Speaker 2: profit off of this maniac child, then her continuing to
- 15:37Speaker 2: give lynn Lynn passes makes a little bit more sense.
- 15:41Speaker 2: But initially I was like, I don't know if she
- 15:47Speaker 2: does mean well, because that person was crying and screaming
- 15:54Speaker 2: for her to stop, and she was ignoring them. So
- 16:00Speaker 2: you know, this is really one of those things where
- 16:02Speaker 2: it's like you can say that she means well and
- 16:07Speaker 2: maybe in her own bizarre way, that's true, but she
- 16:14Speaker 2: is so utterly self absorbed that she isn't even considering
- 16:20Speaker 2: the effect that she's having on the person that she's
- 16:22Speaker 2: allegedly trying to help. And the fact that that doesn't
- 16:28Speaker 2: connect for her. That they are screaming and crying and
- 16:31Speaker 2: trying desperately to get away from her, to me is
- 16:36Speaker 2: an indicator. Okay, something's deeply wrong, and it is a
- 16:40Speaker 2: matter of time before she does something that she won't
- 16:43Speaker 2: be able to take back, which does eventually happen and
- 16:46Speaker 2: then eventually happens again. So Luserafem says her parents dropped
- 16:53Speaker 2: her off on the shores of Elbeth because they knew
- 16:56Speaker 2: about Mother Carmel. At least they cared enough to drop
- 16:59Speaker 2: her off in an orphan and they just didn't want
- 17:00Speaker 2: to go all the way to town because they were
- 17:02Speaker 2: scared of the giants.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Okay, so they explicitly knew.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's better than just dropping her off
- 17:10Speaker 2: on a fucking desserted island.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Like you know, uh, I suppose.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Florian says she is five here, by the way, when
- 17:19Speaker 2: she put the wolf in the bear into the cage together.
- 17:23Speaker 2: So pretty soon we and you know, like again as
- 17:29Speaker 2: we're leading into all of these things. We keep getting
- 17:32Speaker 2: her like bizarre and increasingly upsetting behavior, punctuated with these
- 17:38Speaker 2: little scenes of her going absolutely fucking ham on food
- 17:46Speaker 2: of any kind but mostly sweets, and just her housing
- 17:51Speaker 2: whatever is put in front of her. And so when
- 17:54Speaker 2: we reach the point that we are told about this
- 17:58Speaker 2: winter solstice fast that's going to happen, it is clear
- 18:04Speaker 2: to me this is going to be the origin of
- 18:06Speaker 2: some pretty big problems. The way it's described is not
- 18:12Speaker 2: like Ramadan, where you fast from sun up to sunset.
- 18:18Speaker 2: It seems like you are straight up fasting through twelve days,
- 18:22Speaker 2: all day, every one of those twelve days, which I
- 18:27Speaker 2: just think can't be good for you.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I just don't.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Feel like that's you know, sun up to sunset reasonable.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I would still hate it, but I could see that's
- 18:37Speaker 2: being manageable. And depending on the time of year, the
- 18:41Speaker 2: day is quite short, and so perhaps it would even
- 18:44Speaker 2: like wind up being not that long. But U just
- 18:48Speaker 2: fasting for twelve days straight is really rough. And in
- 18:54Speaker 2: my opinion, every single child that is smiling here that
- 18:59Speaker 2: is a lie, because you know, it's meant to be
- 19:02Speaker 2: that they're all sort of struggling, But mother Carmel's is
- 19:06Speaker 2: making them feel encouraged with her speeches and how important
- 19:10Speaker 2: it is, and so the kids sort of buck up
- 19:13Speaker 2: and smile and continue to bear it gracefully.
- 19:17Speaker 1: No, no, I'm so sorry. There is just no way.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And also everybody is like still like up and walking
- 19:22Speaker 1: around and doing stuff.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Just I just don't see it. I feel like this
- 19:26Speaker 2: is too much. So anyway, we eventually, like before this
- 19:33Speaker 2: hole fast even begins, there is this baked good that's
- 19:40Speaker 2: like a pastry filled with marzipan and top the powdered
- 19:44Speaker 2: sugar that I think is called selva selma, and they
- 19:53Speaker 2: make a bunch of it to sort of fortify before
- 19:56Speaker 2: they begin the fast. Oh saraham sai as sem la,
- 20:01Speaker 2: thank you Sarah fam. And it seems that it's either
- 20:09Speaker 2: there aren't lots of sweets around and so this becomes
- 20:13Speaker 2: like something special in it, like because they're not treated
- 20:20Speaker 2: super often. This becomes a sort of obsession for Linlen
- 20:25Speaker 2: or it could be that this is in particular one
- 20:28Speaker 2: of the best things that she's ever had, and so,
- 20:32Speaker 2: you know, so I'm gonna read this from Google. Sem
- 20:38Speaker 2: La plural is sem more a traditional Swedish sweet bun
- 20:45Speaker 2: flavored with cardamom, cut open and filled generously with almond
- 20:49Speaker 2: paste and whipped cream, then topped with a lid and
- 20:52Speaker 2: powdered sugar. Typically enjoyed from Christmas through Lent, especially on
- 20:56Speaker 2: Fat Tuesday, as a rich seasonal treat, some times served
- 21:01Speaker 2: in hot milk. That sounds fucking delicious.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I love carda mom. It's something that's like I always
- 21:09Speaker 1: get a little.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Bit shy of because it's a really strong flavor and
- 21:13Speaker 2: if it's not used right, it can be almost medicinal.
- 21:16Speaker 2: But when it's done well, oh baby, it is fucking good.
- 21:19Speaker 2: So now I guess I'm gonna have to make semlhah.
- 21:25Speaker 2: A foodie is work is never done. So she goes
- 21:32Speaker 2: way too hard and is eating more than her fair share,
- 21:37Speaker 2: and everybody has to kind of hold her back because
- 21:39Speaker 2: she's just, you know, taking what is meant for everybody
- 21:43Speaker 2: and able to put it all away herself.
- 21:46Speaker 1: It's an interesting thing.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Here, guys, because, like and I've said this before, with
- 21:51Speaker 2: the way the Big Mom works, it would be very
- 21:55Speaker 2: easy to dismiss what's going on with her as simply
- 22:00Speaker 2: a series of like fat jokes about greedy fat kid
- 22:05Speaker 2: wants too much sweets whatever. But it's like a taken
- 22:10Speaker 2: to a level that it doesn't really feel like that anymore.
- 22:15Speaker 2: So every now and then when I'm watching this, I'm
- 22:18Speaker 2: getting these twinges of sort of discomfort, like, ah, geez,
- 22:21Speaker 2: the fat kid's eating everything. Okay, I get it, And
- 22:24Speaker 2: then I'm sort of like, Eh, that's not it. Though,
- 22:27Speaker 2: that's not it, you know, it's like not not it.
- 22:32Speaker 2: That's it's a factor. But her being a giant as well,
- 22:38Speaker 2: I feel like, adds a sort of caveat to the.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Whole thing where it's like she's also.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Just bigger than the normal person, you know, like bigger
- 22:47Speaker 2: in the sense not about weight, but about her actual
- 22:52Speaker 2: whole body is taller and wider, and probably she just
- 22:56Speaker 2: needs more food and also is fat. But it's a uh, like,
- 23:02Speaker 2: we haven't really seen that many giant women, and the
- 23:06Speaker 2: ones we've seen, I'm pretty sure have all been kind
- 23:09Speaker 2: of shaped like her. There's been like maybe one or
- 23:13Speaker 2: two exceptions where they had like real figures, I feel
- 23:17Speaker 2: like on BoA's Island, but mostly it's been I feel
- 23:26Speaker 2: like the esthetic has been like if you are a
- 23:27Speaker 2: giant woman, you're also built like a refrigerator. Saraphim says, yeah,
- 23:33Speaker 2: it's made pretty clear. This isn't just lol, she's fat
- 23:35Speaker 2: and eats a lot. It's that she has some kind
- 23:37Speaker 2: of legit major eating disorder exactly. So they start their
- 23:43Speaker 2: fast and she makes it I think six days, which honestly,
- 23:47Speaker 2: I think is very respectable, and then she really loses
- 23:54Speaker 2: it and it's like she wants more. Semla specifically is
- 23:58Speaker 2: what she's asking for, and it is a rampage similar
- 24:04Speaker 2: to the one that we have already seen where she
- 24:06Speaker 2: wants a cro kumbouge, and that's the specific thing that
- 24:08Speaker 2: she wants. And if you try and you know, bring
- 24:12Speaker 2: her down with anything other than the specific item she's requesting,
- 24:17Speaker 2: it's gonna do fuck all. So she goes to the
- 24:23Speaker 2: village looking for Semla, and she we like kind of
- 24:28Speaker 2: cut away from her heading over there and her eyes
- 24:32Speaker 2: going that weird sort of white, and we then see
- 24:37Speaker 2: Mother Carmel being woken up and summoned because the whole
- 24:43Speaker 2: village is burning, and evidently it was linnln who did
- 24:50Speaker 2: all of this in her desperate search for Semla. And uh,
- 24:55Speaker 2: it's very funny because she keeps saying that she wants semla,
- 24:59Speaker 2: and nobody ever actually thinks to just give her the
- 25:02Speaker 2: semla to calm her down.
- 25:04Speaker 1: It's not until Mother Carmel is like, well.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Then get her some that they're like, oh okay, And
- 25:10Speaker 2: I was like, really, guys, I know that, Like, I'm
- 25:14Speaker 2: not trying to blame the victim here she's being a maniac,
- 25:18Speaker 2: but she's literally saying what it is that she's after,
- 25:21Speaker 2: and it turns out you have it. You couldn't just
- 25:25Speaker 2: like cut her off at the pass, all right.
- 25:27Speaker 1: So this is also a.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Point where Mother Carmel she brings that son to life
- 25:36Speaker 2: that we see Prometheus. I believe that is like still
- 25:40Speaker 2: with with Big Mom to this day. I think it's
- 25:48Speaker 2: the same, is it unless Big Mom brings another one
- 25:53Speaker 2: to life?
- 25:54Speaker 1: But I don't fully.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Understand the she's pulling the flames up and turning them
- 26:04Speaker 2: into this sun to stop the fire, right, that's what's happening.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And so this is the first reveal that she has
- 26:14Speaker 2: this ability, which I thought was really surprising because I
- 26:22Speaker 2: not to say that, like the ability is no doubt useful,
- 26:28Speaker 2: but we just don't see her actually putting it to
- 26:31Speaker 2: use very much. And I wonder why that is, Seraphim says, no,
- 26:38Speaker 2: this is a different son named Pandora. Oh that's right,
- 26:41Speaker 2: I forgot. She calls it Pandora, And yeah, she's using
- 26:43Speaker 2: her soulso fruit to bring the flames to life and
- 26:46Speaker 2: thus make them controllable by her. Okay, And yeah, like
- 26:52Speaker 2: I said, she tells them, well, why don't you just
- 26:54Speaker 2: get her some semla. But as those people are rushing
- 26:59Speaker 2: to try and get this, here comes the chieftain of
- 27:04Speaker 2: the giants, and he very reasonably, I must admit, basically,
- 27:10Speaker 2: is like this bitch is out of control. She's not okay,
- 27:15Speaker 2: and if we don't kill her ass right now, she
- 27:18Speaker 2: is just going to be a.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Curse for all of us.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Like going forward, there is no way if she is
- 27:28Speaker 2: so out of control of her own actions that we
- 27:31Speaker 2: are going to be able to stop her as she
- 27:33Speaker 2: gets older. We got to take care of this. And
- 27:37Speaker 2: I hate to say it, but like Bro's got a point.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And again you have this wily old Carmel acting like
- 27:47Speaker 2: she's just so good hearted that she wants to keep
- 27:50Speaker 2: Lynnln alive out of the compassion and goodness of her heart,
- 27:57Speaker 2: the belief that we all do deserve a second chance,
- 28:01Speaker 2: she's just a child.
- 28:03Speaker 1: But then later on you.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Find out that she can sell and Lynn for like
- 28:07Speaker 2: a way higher price than anybody she's trafficked before, and
- 28:10Speaker 2: so this whole argument like is quite hollow in retrospect.
- 28:18Speaker 2: So she convinced, she like manages to uh like get
- 28:26Speaker 2: this guy to slow his attack, but in the end,
- 28:29Speaker 2: it's like he's gonna just go ahead and do it anyway.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And the way that the.
- 28:34Speaker 2: First episode ends is him lifting his sword and her
- 28:40Speaker 2: Linlan looking up at the sword with her crazy white eyes,
- 28:44Speaker 2: seeming to not comprehend what's about to happen at all.
- 28:47Speaker 2: And then when the next episode begins, he swings down
- 28:51Speaker 2: at her, and she puts up a hand and she
- 28:54Speaker 2: just breaks the blade of his sword in half, which
- 28:58Speaker 2: I don't even know how she's able to do that
- 29:00Speaker 2: exactly it's meant to be. I believe simply that she
- 29:04Speaker 2: has got a bonker's strength that is nigh indestructible by nature.
- 29:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I thought, because of what had happened earlier, that we
- 29:16Speaker 2: were going to find out there was something linked to
- 29:19Speaker 2: the fruit that made her indestructible. But it seems like
- 29:22Speaker 2: this is a whole separate deal that is like specifically
- 29:26Speaker 2: hers as a person, and that it's an odd side
- 29:31Speaker 2: effect to the.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Like fugue state. And I may be wrong, guys.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Is it that she is also indestructible when she is
- 29:43Speaker 2: not in the fugue state or I'm not clear on that,
- 29:50Speaker 2: but uh, you know, obviously bro was not expecting her
- 29:55Speaker 2: to be able to simply like shrug off this fucking blow,
- 30:00Speaker 2: and he is taken off guard and she kills him,
- 30:04Speaker 2: and understandably all of the giants are like, Okay, well
- 30:09Speaker 2: fuck this bitch. And again Carmel has to step in
- 30:13Speaker 2: and she's like, look, I'll take all the kids, including her,
- 30:17Speaker 2: and we will find another place to live. Just you know,
- 30:21Speaker 2: let me have custody of her. We'll get out of
- 30:24Speaker 2: your hair. You won't have to deal with her anymore.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Just help us out with relocating, and then you'll never
- 30:31Speaker 2: see us again. So Sarah FM says she's super tough.
- 30:36Speaker 2: General fan explanation is it's mostly her hockey making her
- 30:40Speaker 2: like that, and she loses control of it when she
- 30:43Speaker 2: goes into her fugue state. Ah, she loses control of
- 30:49Speaker 2: her hockey in her fugue.
- 30:52Speaker 1: State, which makes her indestructible or it's hard.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Look, when we say fugue state, I feel like kind
- 31:01Speaker 2: of it seems like she's got two types of few
- 31:04Speaker 2: states where she's got the one when she's in the
- 31:08Speaker 2: grips of a craving, and then there's the one when
- 31:13Speaker 2: she's upset regarding Carmel's photo, which it seems like that's
- 31:19Speaker 2: a different thing. Right, So when she is in the
- 31:23Speaker 2: one where she's got the craving, she's indestructible. But then
- 31:28Speaker 2: the one where it's upset about Carmel is when she's vulnerable.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Let's see Sarah Fim says, which state, Yeah, her berserker
- 31:39Speaker 2: food craving. She just goes all out that upset one
- 31:41Speaker 2: where she shows down, Okay, yeah, Florien says, yeah, they're
- 31:44Speaker 2: too You got it. This pitsion needs to get out
- 31:46Speaker 2: of these FuG states. We got to get her onto
- 31:48Speaker 2: mood stabilizers. That's what she needs. She needs like an antipsychotic,
- 31:52Speaker 2: some sort of mood stabilizer. Probably I'm on via Ance,
- 31:57Speaker 2: which is meant to be a little bit of like
- 31:59Speaker 2: a food obsession.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Dampener.
- 32:04Speaker 2: It's really not specifically meant for that, but it is
- 32:06Speaker 2: a side effect because it's supposed to help you focus on,
- 32:10Speaker 2: like calm your background thoughts and thus make that like
- 32:15Speaker 2: food obsessive thing simmered down quite a bit, and I
- 32:20Speaker 2: have had a pretty positive experience on it so far.
- 32:24Speaker 1: It has done that for me.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I'm not obsessing about food the way that I had
- 32:27Speaker 2: been at one point. So yeah, I feel like that
- 32:30Speaker 2: would probably be a good combo for her.
- 32:34Speaker 1: So she.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Comes out of this state the next morning and they
- 32:41Speaker 2: have buried the chieftain and she's like, oh my god,
- 32:46Speaker 2: he's dead.
- 32:47Speaker 1: That's so sad. What happened.
- 32:50Speaker 2: She doesn't remember having done this. And again I just
- 32:53Speaker 2: want to point out she's like saying that's so sad
- 32:56Speaker 2: and seems genuinely upset. So she's not a psychopath that
- 33:00Speaker 2: has no feeling for others. It's simply like it's a
- 33:03Speaker 2: tap that turns on and off, and she just turns.
- 33:08Speaker 1: From a.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Like it's not even like she turns from a kid
- 33:14Speaker 2: who's like normal, because.
- 33:16Speaker 1: She's not normal either.
- 33:17Speaker 2: You know, we see her tormenting these other kids and
- 33:20Speaker 2: not understanding that that's what she's doing. But it's not
- 33:26Speaker 2: as simple as that she has no feeling for other humans.
- 33:30Speaker 2: She does, and that's what's so awful. Is like she
- 33:34Speaker 2: cares a lot, but she just is so bad at understanding,
- 33:39Speaker 2: and it's like, I want somebody to sit her down
- 33:44Speaker 2: and be like, Okay, look, clearly you're not understanding the
- 33:47Speaker 2: cues that indicate somebody is hurting or scared. So I'm
- 33:54Speaker 2: going to explain it to you, and that way, next
- 33:57Speaker 2: time somebody begins to react this way, you will realize
- 34:01Speaker 2: and pull back before you do any damage.
- 34:04Speaker 1: This is the difficult thing because.
- 34:08Speaker 2: With a character like this, where she has behaviors that
- 34:12Speaker 2: are clearly out of control today, what we would do
- 34:21Speaker 2: is try and figure out where that disconnect is happening
- 34:27Speaker 2: between what she claims she cares about and what she's
- 34:30Speaker 2: actually doing, and approach her at a level that she
- 34:34Speaker 2: could understand, where we're encouraging her to lean into the
- 34:39Speaker 2: thing that she says she cares about with new information
- 34:41Speaker 2: and a different perspective. This would be a sort of
- 34:45Speaker 2: gentle parenting type of approach, right, But we don't have
- 34:51Speaker 2: that here. Despite the fact that Mother Carmel does sort
- 34:54Speaker 2: of give gentle parenting vibes, she's not.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Really communic hating with Lynlin at all.
- 35:01Speaker 2: She just yells no, don't do that that's what his
- 35:04Speaker 2: arms are naturally, Like, don't do that, that's the fins
- 35:08Speaker 2: are something that he has naturally. She's like reacting rather
- 35:12Speaker 2: than sitting down with Linlin and figuring out, okay, why
- 35:16Speaker 2: did you think this was okay when he was reacting.
- 35:19Speaker 1: The way he was.
- 35:21Speaker 2: And this failure to communicate continues when it comes to
- 35:26Speaker 2: the chieftain, because nobody tells her the truth about what
- 35:31Speaker 2: happened to him, and I understand in a way, being
- 35:38Speaker 2: like what would be the point she would be so
- 35:41Speaker 2: upset by it and she didn't know what she was doing,
- 35:43Speaker 2: and she clearly doesn't remember.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I still think.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Explaining to her, Hey, look, I know that you don't remember,
- 35:55Speaker 2: and we're not holding you responsible the way that we
- 35:58Speaker 2: would normally, but you need to know this is what happened,
- 36:03Speaker 2: and we all saw it.
- 36:05Speaker 1: We're not fucking with you.
- 36:06Speaker 2: You went completely berserk, and then kind of walk through
- 36:16Speaker 2: with her like we have got to figure out a
- 36:21Speaker 2: way to manage whatever's going on with you, you know,
- 36:26Speaker 2: And I don't know if there is a real solution there.
- 36:29Speaker 2: I genuinely don't because later what happens happens when she's
- 36:33Speaker 2: very happy, so it doesn't seem like it would matter.
- 36:38Speaker 2: But I did stop and think here about like, maybe
- 36:42Speaker 2: they should have told her, Maybe there would have been
- 36:45Speaker 2: some way. You know, it's also possible if they told
- 36:49Speaker 2: her that it would trigger another friggin few state that
- 36:53Speaker 2: she would completely flip out. You know, I don't know,
- 36:56Speaker 2: I don't know. So then me have this little sequence
- 37:01Speaker 2: of the giants going to this other area and building
- 37:06Speaker 2: another house and it's like a new orphanage and Carmel
- 37:11Speaker 2: and all the kids are there and they are celebrating
- 37:14Speaker 2: Lynn Lynn's birthday. Now this was confusing for me. I'll
- 37:20Speaker 2: explain once I know, once I have put two and
- 37:23Speaker 2: two together later about what I think actually happened here.
- 37:28Speaker 2: That was when I was like, oh, okay, so that's
- 37:31Speaker 2: the reason for the tone of that scene. But when
- 37:34Speaker 2: I was watching it, I really started to be like, are.
- 37:39Speaker 1: They poisoning her?
- 37:40Speaker 2: Is there something going on where the kids are in
- 37:42Speaker 2: on this? And I should take a sidebar to just
- 37:47Speaker 2: talk about the reveal of mother Carmel being in on
- 37:51Speaker 2: this like child trafficking ring, because it's not that she's
- 37:56Speaker 2: just like selling these kids to just anybody. She's not
- 37:59Speaker 2: true trying to give them to people who want slaves.
- 38:03Speaker 2: It's that she's looking for valuable fighters and spies that
- 38:08Speaker 2: she can sell to the government specifically. And the the
- 38:16Speaker 2: fact that they are like looking for kids in this
- 38:19Speaker 2: sort of way makes a lot of sense. You know.
- 38:22Speaker 2: This is part of the way that like gang psychology
- 38:26Speaker 2: works as well. You have nobody, and you don't have prospects,
- 38:33Speaker 2: or you feel like you don't, and there is a
- 38:36Speaker 2: group out there that promises to provide to have your
- 38:40Speaker 2: back no matter what, and all you got to do
- 38:44Speaker 2: is like the jobs they tell you, and to be
- 38:48Speaker 2: loyal under pressure, and they will be your family. And
- 38:54Speaker 2: if you've got a whole bunch of orphans who are
- 38:57Speaker 2: super loyal to like one person who has cared for them,
- 39:01Speaker 2: and that one person is telling them, Okay, so here's
- 39:05Speaker 2: this new gig and this is what you're gonna go do,
- 39:10Speaker 2: I could see it not even needing to be like
- 39:14Speaker 2: about selling and these kids being made to do things
- 39:19Speaker 2: against their will. I could see it as like her
- 39:23Speaker 2: framing I've found you an opportunity, not letting the kid
- 39:27Speaker 2: know that she gets any money out of it at all,
- 39:29Speaker 2: and the kid out of like gratitude for everything that
- 39:35Speaker 2: Carmel has done for them, agreeing to take this responsibility
- 39:42Speaker 2: or mission on because they believe it's the right thing
- 39:47Speaker 2: to do to pay Carmel back somehow, just being so
- 39:52Speaker 2: unaware of that this is an actual business for her
- 39:55Speaker 2: that she's making money off of. You know, Sarah says,
- 40:01Speaker 2: this is also the backstory for almost all the CP
- 40:03Speaker 2: nine members.
- 40:04Speaker 1: They were orphans who the government raised to be loyal
- 40:08Speaker 1: super soldiers.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Okay, so yeah, this is like it makes a lot
- 40:16Speaker 2: of sense that this all functions this way, and her
- 40:20Speaker 2: deciding to take the tact that she does with the giants,
- 40:23Speaker 2: It was a long con trying to get into this,
- 40:27Speaker 2: like potentially this position where she was going to be
- 40:29Speaker 2: able to get them giants to work for them as well,
- 40:33Speaker 2: which we do get the like that voiceover narrator guy
- 40:38Speaker 2: explaining to us the connection between the you know what
- 40:44Speaker 2: she was up to and this whole like trafficking thing
- 40:48Speaker 2: and the guys that were guarding en is lobby, the
- 40:52Speaker 2: guys who were in that you know forever battle on
- 40:56Speaker 2: those other two islands.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I can't remember their names, but yeah, so.
- 41:02Speaker 2: She like makes this agreement, Okay, well, I want to
- 41:06Speaker 2: sell her for top fucking dollar. At first, dude she's
- 41:10Speaker 2: negotiating with is just like that is way too much,
- 41:13Speaker 2: and she's like, the fuck it is.
- 41:15Speaker 1: You haven't seen what she can do.
- 41:18Speaker 2: And she doesn't like it's fun the way that it's written,
- 41:21Speaker 2: because she stops calling Linlan her, she stops referring to
- 41:26Speaker 2: her with any sort of pronoun to indicate that she's
- 41:29Speaker 2: a person, and says something like, you haven't seen a
- 41:33Speaker 2: product this resilient ever before, and you know, basically like
- 41:40Speaker 2: I'm sort of lowballing. If you knew everything, I would
- 41:45Speaker 2: be able to ask for more, but I know that
- 41:47Speaker 2: you aren't going to get some.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Of what you know. It'll have to be seen to
- 41:53Speaker 1: be believed, essentially.
- 41:56Speaker 2: So they come to this agreement, and uh, you know,
- 42:00Speaker 2: I'm sort of waiting for that trap to spring. So
- 42:04Speaker 2: we had that scene and then we have everybody moving
- 42:07Speaker 2: to this new location and I'm on my guard because
- 42:11Speaker 2: I know that Mother Carmel has this plan. And that
- 42:15Speaker 2: was why the weird vibe of the birthday started to
- 42:19Speaker 2: make me wonder, are is she being like drugged or
- 42:22Speaker 2: something so that if she passes out, we can sell
- 42:25Speaker 2: her with no trouble and she'll wake up somewhere else entirely,
- 42:30Speaker 2: and the whole scene it's very much like the kids
- 42:35Speaker 2: are all so excitedly telling her we made this thing
- 42:38Speaker 2: for you. It's like a crocuam bush made of semola because.
- 42:42Speaker 1: We know you love it.
- 42:43Speaker 2: And they made the semlas like extra giant as well,
- 42:46Speaker 2: because the ones that she had been eating were the
- 42:49Speaker 2: size of it looked almost like like little like biscuits
- 42:55Speaker 2: that you would get with chicken, you know, like a
- 42:57Speaker 2: Popeye's biscuit. But the ones on this crokham boush in
- 43:03Speaker 2: Linln's hand, they look proportional, but they're the size of
- 43:08Speaker 2: the kid's heads pretty much. And they're all just so
- 43:13Speaker 2: intense about like, oh yay, we're so glad you liked
- 43:17Speaker 2: what we made for you. Up there's plenty, and it
- 43:21Speaker 2: just felt like these children are up to something.
- 43:26Speaker 1: This is so weird. But as it turns out, the
- 43:32Speaker 1: kids aren't up to anything. Oda's up to something.
- 43:35Speaker 2: This is just him really wanting to fucking twist the
- 43:39Speaker 2: knife and make it clear. These kids had forgiven her.
- 43:44Speaker 2: They are trying to make her birthday nice. They are
- 43:47Speaker 2: just pleased that she's enjoying herself. It's that simple, and
- 43:52Speaker 2: the vibe that I was getting is because something bad
- 43:57Speaker 2: is about to happen from Linlin not to Lynnlin, which
- 44:01Speaker 2: was very very unexpected. And the way you guys it
- 44:06Speaker 2: just like again, I for a moment was just like
- 44:11Speaker 2: I don't I don't understand what happened here. So she
- 44:20Speaker 2: goes into this like really happy, excited state as she's
- 44:27Speaker 2: eating these delicious treats and as everybody is telling her
- 44:33Speaker 2: how much they care about her, how happy they are
- 44:36Speaker 2: that they're going to do this every year, and she's
- 44:39Speaker 2: feeling so overwhelmed with love and contentment that she gets
- 44:45Speaker 2: teary eyed, and she's like obviously turning another corner into
- 44:53Speaker 2: a different fugue state. We've unlocked a third one, it
- 44:58Speaker 2: seems like, which is she's too happy. It's kind of
- 45:04Speaker 2: funny because this is sort of reminding me of just
- 45:07Speaker 2: like blood sugar. You know, if you spike your blood
- 45:11Speaker 2: sugar too high, you get hyper, but if you let
- 45:14Speaker 2: it drop too low, you can pass out. And it's
- 45:18Speaker 2: like we have to navigate that with Big Mom as
- 45:21Speaker 2: if she's got diabetes, but that diabetes rather than like
- 45:26Speaker 2: making her be hyper.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Or pass out or whatever it causes that to.
- 45:32Speaker 2: All the people around her instead, which is a real
- 45:37Speaker 2: interesting you know, it's like reverse diabetes. So she goes
- 45:45Speaker 2: into this state and like kind of comes out of
- 45:50Speaker 2: it and everybody's gone. And initially I'm like, so she
- 45:57Speaker 2: was drugged, and now she's waking up having been drugged,
- 46:03Speaker 2: and she's looking around and she doesn't know where anybody is.
- 46:07Speaker 2: And there are some odd bits of detritus I guess
- 46:17Speaker 2: I want to say around that are not quite jiving
- 46:23Speaker 2: with my assumption that she's going to be drugged and sold.
- 46:29Speaker 2: You know, it's like there's something else happening here, And
- 46:34Speaker 2: I like, I'm also confused as this whole thing is
- 46:41Speaker 2: playing out. Knowing that Carmel has the power that eventually
- 46:50Speaker 2: she ends up with, I am like, wait, how does
- 46:56Speaker 2: that get transferred to her?
- 46:57Speaker 1: How would that even work?
- 46:59Speaker 2: I should have I should have realized, but I fucking didn't,
- 47:02Speaker 2: you guys. So the heart eyes here, because the eyes
- 47:10Speaker 2: that she gets when she's like hungry and wants a thing,
- 47:13Speaker 2: it's almost.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Like white stars.
- 47:15Speaker 2: And then this fugue state where she's happy, it's heart
- 47:20Speaker 2: eyes and she's eating and it's sort of like she's
- 47:24Speaker 2: grabbing things at random and I as I'm watching this,
- 47:32Speaker 2: backing up and looking at her at this table, the
- 47:36Speaker 2: camera sort of pans out and she's alone. She's sitting
- 47:45Speaker 2: at this table that was a second ago, surrounded by children, alone,
- 47:52Speaker 2: and we've got her eating and the sounds of laughter
- 48:01Speaker 2: and hearts floating around with the smiling, laughing faces of
- 48:07Speaker 2: each of the kids, and I think that maybe they
- 48:14Speaker 2: were screaming. I think there's something about her that she
- 48:18Speaker 2: doesn't like even feel the energy of or hear the people.
- 48:23Speaker 2: It's like she just is completely in a dilusional state,
- 48:29Speaker 2: I think. And let's see, you're so cute, sweetie pie,
- 48:37Speaker 2: and she says thanks mother as she stuffs another one
- 48:41Speaker 2: of these into her mouth. And I think when she
- 48:44Speaker 2: did that, she was speaking to Carmel, who was what
- 48:52Speaker 2: she was actually holding in that moment.
- 48:55Speaker 1: I think that was not a Semla. I think that
- 48:59Speaker 1: was Carmel. And she's just like something something happened. Man,
- 49:08Speaker 1: She's not okay. She is not okay.
- 49:12Speaker 2: And then you see all of those hearts like floating
- 49:16Speaker 2: away into the sky, and the narrator says, what a
- 49:21Speaker 2: truly wonderful birthday, and then you see her I ate
- 49:26Speaker 2: so much. I even took a bite out of the table,
- 49:30Speaker 2: which is again we would call that a clue, but
- 49:36Speaker 2: I wasn't getting it. I wasn't quite getting it. I
- 49:39Speaker 2: was just, I think, inside unwilling and like you, when
- 49:44Speaker 2: the camera pulls back, she didn't just take a bite
- 49:49Speaker 2: out of the table. That table's fucking gone, dude, table's missing.
- 49:55Speaker 2: There are some stumps. That's it. It's not even like
- 50:02Speaker 2: because the way she says it, it should look like
- 50:05Speaker 2: a cookie with a bite taken out of it. No, no, no,
- 50:07Speaker 2: it's just fucking gone. And we see one of Carmel's
- 50:13Speaker 2: like shawls on the ground. And again at this point,
- 50:18Speaker 2: for a minute, I was sort of like, did she
- 50:20Speaker 2: pass out and they just like ran away or was
- 50:23Speaker 2: she acting so scary that they left because she like,
- 50:26Speaker 2: did they build this house intending to abandon her here?
- 50:29Speaker 2: And they just had this like little gathering to drug her,
- 50:36Speaker 2: drop her off and feel better that they're abandoning her
- 50:45Speaker 2: with a roof over her head, you know, so that
- 50:48Speaker 2: it's like not as terrible and she's older now and
- 50:52Speaker 2: maybe she can take care of herself, like and she
- 50:55Speaker 2: looks over in the trees and for a second, the
- 51:00Speaker 2: orphans are peeking out from behind them, so like again
- 51:03Speaker 2: right there, I had a moment of like, oh, so
- 51:05Speaker 2: there they are alive, like.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Or they are still here.
- 51:10Speaker 2: They didn't abandon her, but then they like vanish, they evaporate.
- 51:14Speaker 2: It's really weird, you know, I'm like not fucking figuring
- 51:19Speaker 2: this out, man. And she goes like looking through the
- 51:27Speaker 2: woods for them and obviously doesn't find anybody, and then
- 51:32Speaker 2: gets approached by this weird character.
- 51:38Speaker 1: And uh, this.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Dude, he looks like an evil oos up is actually
- 51:45Speaker 2: the way that I kept thinking about him, and this
- 51:49Speaker 2: is a This is like a guy who sees the
- 51:54Speaker 2: potential in this bonker's chick.
- 51:58Speaker 1: His name is Trusan, and uh is.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Like, all right, well, I'm going to let her be
- 52:06Speaker 2: one of my fucking sidekicks because she is terrifying and
- 52:11Speaker 2: I think I could really get something out of it.
- 52:14Speaker 2: And indeed, we then see him going on these fucking
- 52:18Speaker 2: rampages around and using her as the tool, and it's like,
- 52:27Speaker 2: it's like it's such a weird thing to watch because weirdly,
- 52:35Speaker 2: like big Mom, I hesitate to call her that because
- 52:38Speaker 2: she hasn't quite gotten there yet.
- 52:39Speaker 1: She still didn't lin really, but it's like you're watching
- 52:42Speaker 1: her lean into.
- 52:44Speaker 2: The worst parts of herself and be accepted and celebrated
- 52:50Speaker 2: for that in a very particular way that I understand
- 52:55Speaker 2: why that would be gratifying, but is also like really unhealthy.
- 53:00Speaker 2: And this dude who is just letting her take all
- 53:03Speaker 2: the heat while he loots everything in the background. So
- 53:07Speaker 2: there's like a few times where we see him and
- 53:10Speaker 2: he's got sparkles all around him because he's carrying.
- 53:14Speaker 1: So much treasure.
- 53:16Speaker 2: And she is telling everybody that she wants a certain
- 53:20Speaker 2: type of food and folks are like, we're not doing that,
- 53:23Speaker 2: and she's like, well, you can either do that or
- 53:25Speaker 2: you can die, Like are you going to obey or not?
- 53:30Speaker 2: And as she says obey, a light comes into her eyes.
- 53:34Speaker 2: And it's not the same as the fugue state thing.
- 53:36Speaker 2: This is clearly power trip. This is a different thing.
- 53:40Speaker 2: And it's just illustrating to us that she has begun
- 53:44Speaker 2: to like this part of the job that she has
- 53:49Speaker 2: been put to by this dude, that the fact.
- 53:54Speaker 1: That she is.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Able to get exactly what she wants through fear suits
- 54:00Speaker 2: her just fine. She doesn't feel bad about making people
- 54:04Speaker 2: feel afraid. She never did before. Why would she now,
- 54:07Speaker 2: you know, she just wants what she wants and the
- 54:12Speaker 2: actual consequences of that are not her business. It seems
- 54:17Speaker 2: like she doesn't think it is anyway. So when we
- 54:22Speaker 2: come back to the present, she's like yelling about where
- 54:27Speaker 2: did mother Carmel go?
- 54:29Speaker 1: And I don't know if we.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Ever are going to get for sure that this is
- 54:34Speaker 2: what happened. I mean, it's pretty much a guarantee in
- 54:38Speaker 2: my book. I'm not really doubting my suspicion here, but
- 54:41Speaker 2: I'm wondering if like Big Mom is ever going to
- 54:44Speaker 2: know for certain that's what happened. And oh sorry, Florian says. Also,
- 54:52Speaker 2: the narrator tells us that one giant witnessed everything and
- 54:55Speaker 2: informed the others. This is another reason why the giants
- 54:59Speaker 2: dislike Big Mom explains why she has Caesar and why
- 55:02Speaker 2: she hates Lola slash Chiffon. Right, I forgot about that,
- 55:08Speaker 2: like and the thing with Caesar. It's so funny, guys,
- 55:10Speaker 2: because like, I really went back and forth about it,
- 55:13Speaker 2: wanting her wanting to turn people into giants, And at
- 55:16Speaker 2: the first time that we saw her fantasizing about turning
- 55:20Speaker 2: people into giants, I did just immediately go, oh, I
- 55:24Speaker 2: think she's lonely and she just wants a tea party
- 55:27Speaker 2: where everybody is the same size as her. And then
- 55:31Speaker 2: later on some other things happen and I'm like, oh,
- 55:34Speaker 2: maybe that's not what it's about. But it seems now
- 55:38Speaker 2: we've turned a corner and like, no, we're back to that.
- 55:40Speaker 1: That is what it's about.
- 55:42Speaker 2: And maybe there are other advantages that you can you know,
- 55:45Speaker 2: turning people into giants might be militarily handy or whatever,
- 55:49Speaker 2: But in reality, what it boils down to is her
- 55:53Speaker 2: trying to recapture this one bright, happy moment in her
- 55:57Speaker 2: life that she doesn't know was like one of the
- 56:01Speaker 2: most hideous massacres that you can imagine, which is so
- 56:08Speaker 2: awful that she's chasing a dragon without realizing if she
- 56:14Speaker 2: were to reach that state again, she'd probably kill everybody
- 56:18Speaker 2: and have no idea. Sarahim says, it's two different things.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Wanting sester to enlarge people is her wanting everyone to
- 56:27Speaker 2: be equal instead around the tea table, her wanting to
- 56:30Speaker 2: get the giants on her side, is wanting the power
- 56:32Speaker 2: that would give her That's okay, yeah, that's fair. Yeah,
- 56:38Speaker 2: So it is, like I said, by the time these
- 56:43Speaker 2: three episodes are up. You know, we've launched these rockets
- 56:48Speaker 2: at her, and we're going to have to see how
- 56:50Speaker 2: all of this lines up shaking out. But she's got
- 56:55Speaker 2: people around her, one of whom is older version of
- 56:59Speaker 2: Evil Oosop. She is clearly no longer under his control
- 57:04Speaker 2: at all anymore, and he is attempting to warn her
- 57:10Speaker 2: because he can see that she is vulnerable and that
- 57:14Speaker 2: Beggie is gearing up to shoot at her. But this
- 57:19Speaker 2: lady is not home. Lights are on.
- 57:23Speaker 1: But yeah, so.
- 57:26Speaker 2: It's a it's a really awful, sad story. And if
- 57:32Speaker 2: she were to find out that she had killed mother Carmel,
- 57:38Speaker 2: I genuinely do not know what would happen. I genuinely
- 57:43Speaker 2: don't know if she was given some sort of irrefutable evidence,
- 57:48Speaker 2: and I don't even know what would satisfy her on
- 57:50Speaker 2: that front. Would she be able to overcome that and
- 57:57Speaker 2: remain who she is? Would that cause a complete breakdown,
- 58:02Speaker 2: and would she wind up murdering the entire island in
- 58:05Speaker 2: some sort of other fugue state of grief and guilt?
- 58:09Speaker 2: Would she refuse utterly to believe it and simply kill
- 58:14Speaker 2: the messenger that feels like the most likely or would
- 58:18Speaker 2: she be so overcome with guilt that she doesn't even
- 58:22Speaker 2: like enter a fugue state, but just decides to kill
- 58:24Speaker 2: herself or something, you know, which I don't even know
- 58:27Speaker 2: how she could, because it seems like when she's in
- 58:30Speaker 2: a certain state, she's basically.
- 58:31Speaker 1: Impossible to hurt. Can she hurt herself? Is that even
- 58:36Speaker 1: a thing? I don't know?
- 58:39Speaker 2: But uh yeah, I am really curious because this one
- 58:45Speaker 2: giant that witness everything, like evidently they reported back to
- 58:53Speaker 2: their own people, but they did not like that news
- 58:56Speaker 2: doesn't seem to have circled around to everybodybody else because
- 59:01Speaker 2: the picture of Carmel, it doesn't feel as if folks
- 59:05Speaker 2: have the context of who Carmel really was or understand
- 59:11Speaker 2: Big Mom's history. Like I think it's a secret still somehow,
- 59:18Speaker 2: and maybe it's just the giants who are aware. But
- 59:23Speaker 2: I just really want to know how those two regular
- 59:26Speaker 2: assu human people wound up having a daughter like this,
- 59:30Speaker 2: because it just feels.
- 59:31Speaker 1: Unlikely, you know. It feels like she must.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Have been adopted by them too, from somebody else, and
- 59:40Speaker 2: after seeing the way that this all went down, I
- 59:43Speaker 2: can't help but understand them abandoning her because God knows
- 59:49Speaker 2: what they had already gone through to get to this place.
- 59:52Speaker 2: And I do think about this as like a person
- 59:55Speaker 2: who is childless for a variety of reasons. One of
- 59:59Speaker 2: the reasons that that has always been on my mind
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: is what if you've got a kid that something like
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: this is really wrong with them? And I don't mean
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: like they have some sort of physical disability or they
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: are mentally.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Disabled in some way.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: I am talking about what if there is a kid
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: who is displaying psychopathic tendencies, who is weirdly devoid of
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: emotion or empathy, or exhibiting signs of being like sadistic somehow,
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: and you slowly begin to piece together that they are
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: hurting animals, hurting other students in their classes, maybe even
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: like potentially going to hurt you. What do you do
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: if that begins to come to your attention. I genuinely
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: don't know. And I have to assume that there are
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: parents out there who have gone through this and handled
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: it in a variety of ways, and some of them
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: probably did abandon their kids. There may be parents who
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: even killed their own kids because they realize, like, oh shit,
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: this this kid is like gonna rea ha havoc. If
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: I don't do something, or I'm sure a lot of
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: parents who ignore it and pretend that they don't see
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: it and let their kid do awful stuff and simply
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: go whistling staring off into a different direction.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: It's uh.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I don't know how you fucking cope.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: I do believe that nurture has a huge influence, but
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: I think nature is like people are born with certain
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: personalities innately, I do believe, And you can change details,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: but that's not really gonna change necessarily certain fundamentals. So
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: it's hard to blame her parents, you know. For all
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: I know, she almost ate them and burned their house down.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Who the fuck knows.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: All Right, I've got to wrap, but this is a
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: good section. Guy's very interested to why much more so
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: looking forward to it. I hope that you all are
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: enjoying this coverage and that you are enjoying being on

- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Until next time, to the loo, motherfuckers.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: That was an unspoiled Network podcast.
