- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
- 0:06where we left off with the Bill Gates transcript from
- 0:10his meeting with Congress. Question we've already discussed mister Nikolch.
- 0:15Doctor Nikolch, of course, introduced you to mister Epstein. So
- 0:19in your words, can you characterize doctor nikolch relationship with
- 0:23mister Epstein, or at least your understanding of their relationship. Answer? Well,
- 0:27during the time I knew Epstein, I thought it was
- 0:30just he had met him before I had, and he
- 0:34was kind of organizing the visits that took place. In
- 0:36Looking at the email documents that came out in January,
- 0:39to my surprise, I now see that he had quite
- 0:42an extensive relationship with mister Epstein. So I was not
- 0:46aware of all of that during the time that I
- 0:48met with mister Epstein in twenty eleven to twenty fourteen. Question,
- 0:53are you aware that doctor Nikolch was ultimately named in
- 0:56one of mister Epstein's final will and testaments? Answer? I've
- 1:00seen that in the press. Question So you learned about
- 1:04that much later in the press? Answer? I hope it's
- 1:07an accurate thing. I was a press report that mentioned it. Question,
- 1:11but you have no first hand knowledge of that? Answer,
- 1:14no question. Did that surprise you when you read it?
- 1:17Answer A lot question by mister Spector. I'd like to
- 1:22enter into the record majority Exhibit one, which is an
- 1:24email that Epstein sent to doctor Nikolic on June sixteenth,
- 1:28twenty thirteen. The BAITS number on this document is EFTA
- 1:33zero zero eight seven three eight seven four. And just
- 1:37for the record, all of the BAITS numbers that begin
- 1:39with the FTA are documents that the Department of Justice
- 1:42released pursuant to the Epstein Files Transparency Act. I'll give
- 1:47you a second to look at it, but I will
- 1:49note that I'll be reading much of or all of
- 1:53it into the record, so you don't need to read
- 1:55the entire thing. The first question is have you seen
- 1:58these emails before? Answer? Sure, yeah, okay, I mean I
- 2:01may have seen these when they came out in January,
- 2:04but not before that question. So you don't recall ever
- 2:07seeing these emails prior to the Epstein Files Transparency AAC
- 2:10release by the DOJ. Answer, I did not question in
- 2:14the first email. So the email at the bottom of
- 2:16the page that's an email from mister Epstein. Context Clues
- 2:20from the rest of the document indicate that that was
- 2:22sent to Boris Nikolch, but of course that is redacted
- 2:26on the document he sent to do Boris on Sunday,
- 2:30June sixteenth, at twelve oh two. It reads to me
- 2:33and then it looks like a draft of a statement
- 2:36or an email that says Bill. I'm in tears as
- 2:38I write this. I have barely slept for three days.
- 2:41I'm devastated beyond words. I find myself losing my best
- 2:45friend in my career, all in one day, by no
- 2:48fault on my own. As your friend, I suggest you
- 2:51carefully reconsider your alternatives. If Melinda decides to file for divorce,
- 2:56I will of course stand by you and help any
- 2:59way I can. I want to see you happy. Truly
- 3:03difficult choices no matter what. As you know, I'm going
- 3:06in for delicate surgery on my eyes on Tuesday. This
- 3:09timing cannot be worse. I will totally be out of
- 3:12it for a few days. I hope you're able to
- 3:15convince Melinda to allow me to continue doing my job,
- 3:18a job you described as I could not have done better.
- 3:22I hope to ask her face to face to change
- 3:24your mind. I have done nothing wrong. And the email continues,
- 3:28but just for the record, there in twenty thirteen when
- 3:32this email was sent, were you and your wife Melinda
- 3:34considering divorce? Answer? No question. Why would mister Epstein or
- 3:39doctor Nikolch be under the impression that you were? Answer well,
- 3:43I never would have discussed anything relating to that subject
- 3:47with mister Epstein. I told Boris doctor Nikolich sorry that
- 3:51I shared the information about the two affairs, and he
- 3:53may have thought, you know, that meant our marriage was
- 3:56at risk. It was certainly a deeply troubling thing for
- 3:59my wife, But at this time there was not a
- 4:02discussion of a divorce question. It seems in this draft
- 4:06that's written from doctor Nikolich's perspective that he may have
- 4:09believed that Melinda was the one who wanted him to
- 4:12leave the job. And I think you characterized it earlier
- 4:14as kind of a back and forth discussion with your
- 4:17then wife. Was it Melinda's discussion to ask doctor Nikolitch
- 4:22to accelerate his departure or was it a mutual decision
- 4:25between the two of you. Answer? It was a mutual decision.
- 4:29I agreed with Melinda that having him leave pretty soon
- 4:32was the best thing, and so that's what I did,
- 4:35And that was a quicker departure then would have happened otherwise. Question.
- 4:40I'll continue reading the draft email it continues. However, I
- 4:43recognize the fact that it might not be possible at
- 4:46this time. I also recognize that I will need a
- 4:49lawyer to review any agreement we might enter into. But
- 4:52I don't trust any with such sensitive information. I've asked
- 4:56Jeffrey to oversee and negotiate for me, and have given
- 5:00empower of attorney to act on my behalf. He also
- 5:03needed to be my health proxy during my operation. I
- 5:06have informed them of all the details surrounding our dilemma.
- 5:10I trust them one hundred percent. My communication with him
- 5:13is privileged. No worry. He's agreed to act as my
- 5:16financial and legal representative. You can trust them. He's dealt
- 5:21with very similar problems in the past. Obviously, he hasn't
- 5:25given me the details. I would greatly appreciate you and
- 5:28he talking directly. He does not know Larry and cannot
- 5:31be open with him. He doesn't like or trust pr people.
- 5:35This is a terrible circumstance in which we find ourselves.
- 5:38But I'm confident of our friendship, and I know you
- 5:41know how devoted I am to you, And I will
- 5:44say I asked you if you've seen these emails before
- 5:47the release, but I'll be more specific. Do you have
- 5:50any email or any other type of message that's similar
- 5:53to that draft I just read to you? Did you
- 5:55receive something like that in twenty thirteen? Answer? Never? Never
- 5:59anything close. Question. So doctor Nikolitch and mister Epstein are
- 6:03communicating about something that they might send to you, but
- 6:06it sounds like they didn't. Is that right? Answer? I
- 6:09never received anything like that. Question. In the second email
- 6:13in the middle that doctor Nikolch writes back to mister
- 6:16Epstein at twelve twelve on June sixteenth, twenty thirteen, doctor
- 6:21Nikolch seems to say, this is great. My only worry
- 6:25is whether I should send him now or tell him
- 6:27when I see him on Monday. He's still trying to
- 6:29make it work with Melinda. He's having next round of
- 6:32negotiation with her next weekend. If all fails, then it's
- 6:36a negotiation for a next step. If I send it
- 6:39right now, it reads that I accepted. It's all over. Finally,
- 6:43I can't put something such as divorce in an email.
- 6:46If she reads, she'll go the extra step to be
- 6:48as nasty as possible. Also, I think that my chances
- 6:52of convincing him to talk to you or hire if
- 6:55I do it in person and not over the email.
- 6:57So how about hold this? So how about you hold
- 7:00this for eight days? Thank you? B It sounds like
- 7:03mister Nikolich agrees with the perspective denoted in mister Epstein's
- 7:07draft and that he would be more interested though, in
- 7:10having the conversation with you face to face. Did he
- 7:14have any sort of conversation with you face to face
- 7:16during this time? Answer? But I've never seen this email,
- 7:20so I mean you can ask me questions, but I
- 7:22add no value questions, so I guess I'll be more specific.
- 7:26I understand you've testified that you've not seen the email.
- 7:29Did doctor Nikolitch approach you and communicate these same feelings
- 7:32in person so not over email? Answer no question in
- 7:37the draft email, again, understanding that you have not seen
- 7:39it until much later. Doctor Nikolitch is implying that he
- 7:43has entrusted Jeffrey Epstein with sensitive information, seemingly with relation
- 7:48to you, and that he has given Epstein power of
- 7:51attorney to act on his behalf that he will be
- 7:54as financial and legal representative. So were you aware that
- 7:58Jeffrey Epstein was going to be acting as a legal
- 8:01or financial representative of doctor Nikolich? Answer? Welly, he wasn't
- 8:05a lawyer, so I'm not sure how a non lawyer
- 8:07becomes someone's legal representative. Eventually, doctor Nikolich did communicate to
- 8:12me that he was involving Epstein in the discussion of
- 8:15doctor Nikolich's exit. I forgot exactly, but he sent he
- 8:18told me that he was involving Epstein. Question again, you
- 8:22didn't receive this email, But it seems that they're trying
- 8:25to get across to you. Is that, while you're correct
- 8:27that Jeffrey Epstein was not in fact a lawyer, they
- 8:30are representing him to have some sort of privileged communication
- 8:34with doctor Nikolach, seemingly in a way that would make
- 8:36it seem like sensitive information. The sensitive information that mister
- 8:40Epstein knows about is privileged. Did you ever have a
- 8:44conversation like that with doctor Nikolich? Answer? No, how could
- 8:48it be privileged? Question I'm just as confused as you are,
- 8:52But I guess what I'm asking is, did they represent
- 8:55to you that it could be privileged? Answer? I told
- 8:59you that in terms of a waywareness of the affairs
- 9:00that I had. There were no explicit reference to that,
- 9:03but there was some what you could call veiled reference
- 9:07to it, in the form of, hey, we should all
- 9:09want to be friends. It's only later when Epstein is
- 9:12talking about his reimbursements to a specific woman that I
- 9:15was aware of that. I became fully aware of that.
- 9:18There was a point in the discussions with Boris where I,
- 9:21you know, I said, I'm not going to be influenced
- 9:24by what you might or might not know or say.
- 9:26But again, this email is complete news to me. Question Okay,
- 9:30the top of the email. I won't read the entire one,
- 9:33but it seems to imply that you had already given
- 9:35doctor Nikolch some kind of offer, probably related to his departure.
- 9:39Had you already given doctor Nickolch some kind of exit
- 9:42package or offer in June of twenty thirteen? Answer? Yeah,
- 9:47there was a prior agreement about he ended up making
- 9:49two investments on our mutual behalf. You know, I'd authorize
- 9:53him to make three, but he made two, So there
- 9:55was you know putting into writing how we would handle
- 9:58his payment for his share of those and then just
- 10:01the termination agreement. So that was all known before he
- 10:04engaged Epstein in the exit discussions. Question. Okay, thank you.
- 10:10I will now enter into the record majority exhibit two,
- 10:13which is an email from mister Epstein to himself on
- 10:16July eighteenth, twenty thirteen. This is Mark Bates number EFTA
- 10:21zero one nine sixty six nine eight eight. And they'll
- 10:25note for the record that there are a few similar
- 10:27versions of these emails throughout the files. I think with
- 10:31things being forwarded along, I'll be referencing this version and
- 10:35asking you questions about it. Some of the other ones
- 10:38are just cut off answer, I don't know what you
- 10:42mean forward it along question. Within the Epstein files, there
- 10:46are duplicates for various reasons, and I'm just referencing that.
- 10:50I'm using this particular EFTA number for the record, and
- 10:55while you're reviewing it, we've had more members and staff join.
- 10:58Can they please identify themselves for the record, Mister Garcia
- 11:02Robert Garcia, ranking member redacted, Representative Garcia, Congressman Raja Krishna
- 11:09Morty from Illinois. Question, mister Gates. Have you seen this
- 11:14email before? Answer? No, I mean I would have seen
- 11:17it when it was released in January as part of
- 11:19the Epstein files, but prior to that, no question. So
- 11:23this appears to be a draft email or statement that
- 11:25Epstein may have written he at least sent it to
- 11:28himself from the perspective of doctor Nikolic. Is at fair answer?
- 11:32I add no value to that question. Well, we can
- 11:36agree that this is not the perspective of Jeffrey Epstein.
- 11:39Is clearly written from the perspective of somebody else. Is
- 11:42that fair answer? Are you asking me to speculate on
- 11:45that question? So I'll read from the record. Then it
- 11:49is again, sent Thursday, July eighteenth, twenty thirteen, at twelve
- 11:53thirty nine from Jeffrey Epstein to himself. However, the email
- 11:58reads quote, I've decided to resign my position, effective immediately
- 12:01with BG three and Bill and Melinda Gate's foundation. I
- 12:05have not come to this decision quickly or without great
- 12:08deal of thought. During the past few weeks, I've been
- 12:11caught up in a severe marital dispute between Melinda and Bill.
- 12:15I'll stop reading there for a second, but given majority
- 12:18Exhibit one, which we were just discussing and the fact
- 12:21that mister Epstein and doctor Nikolch were clearly discussing a
- 12:24marital dispute of some kind between you and Milinda. Is
- 12:28it fair to say that this email that was intended
- 12:31to have been sent by doctor Nikolich. Answer? I don't know.
- 12:35It was never sent by doctor Nikolch. That's all I
- 12:38can bring to this question. Sure I can continue reading.
- 12:42I have the greatest respect for my friend of seven years,
- 12:45and I wish them both well. In my role as
- 12:47the right hand, I've been asked on multiple occasions and
- 12:50in hindsight wrongly acquiesced into participating in things that of
- 12:54range from the morally inappropriate to the ethically unsound, and
- 12:58had been repeatedly asked to do other things that get
- 13:01near and potentially over the line into the illegal. Though
- 13:06it was kindly suggested that I make a transition to
- 13:09a new position after my six years of service, and
- 13:12that Bill would, in his own words, give me a
- 13:14generous package, I feel it would be dishonest to myself
- 13:17and my future from helping Bill to get drugs in
- 13:20order to deal with consequences of sex with Russian girls,
- 13:24to facilitating his illicit trysts with married women, to being
- 13:28asked to provide adderall for bridge tournaments. I feel I
- 13:31owe it to my friends and future colleagues to admit
- 13:34a moral failure, to ask forgiveness, and to move on
- 13:36with life. So again, I understand you did not receive
- 13:43this email. So I'll just begin to discuss the facts
- 13:46in that email. I've already asked you this. I asked
- 13:48you if you had considered a divorce with Melinda in
- 13:51twenty thirteen. I'll ask it a different way. Were you
- 13:55having a marital dispute of some kind with your wife Melinda?
- 13:58French Gates answer, Well, certainly the fact that I told
- 14:02Milinda during this timeframe about the two affairs that was
- 14:06very distressing to her. But at the same time, there
- 14:08was no explicit mention of getting divorced. It may have
- 14:12occurred to Melinda at that point, but it was not
- 14:14a subject to discussion. Question, But you were having a
- 14:17maritald dispute at the time. Is that fair answer? I
- 14:20wouldn't call it a marital dispute. You could say that
- 14:23it was a marital crisis because she became aware of
- 14:26bad behavior on my part. Question, sure, was this dispute
- 14:31that is referenced in this email. Or how about this
- 14:34the discussion you had with Melinda at the time about
- 14:36your infidelity. Were those ultimately relevant to your divorce in
- 14:40twenty twenty one? Answer? You would have to ask her,
- 14:43but I imagined that they were. Question how did doctor
- 14:47nikolic know of you're a marital of your dispute with Milinda? Answer?
- 14:51I never discussed the topic with him. I did tell
- 14:53him she was aware of the affairs and that I
- 14:56shared with her that there were also other affairs. Question
- 15:02when did you tell Melinda about the affairs? Answer That
- 15:05would have been in the spring of twenty thirteen. Question
- 15:08and when did you tell doctor Nikolch that you told
- 15:10Melinda about the affairs? Answer around the same time question
- 15:15shortly thereafter? Answer right, and you know that was part
- 15:18of my telling them that his employment was not going
- 15:20to continue. Question. So it's possible then that doctor Nickolitch,
- 15:24while you didn't tell him that you were that you
- 15:26didn't say you were considering a divorce, as you said
- 15:30you weren't. But it's possible that doctor Nickoluch read into
- 15:33what you were telling him to believe that Melinda was
- 15:35the reason he was being let go. And that he
- 15:38needed to fix things with you. Is that fair? Answer? Well,
- 15:41it's not clear to me that doctor Nikolitch ever saw
- 15:44the emails. But you know, doctor Nickolitch may have inferred
- 15:47from the fact that I said that I, you know,
- 15:49discuss the affairs, he may have speculated about what was
- 15:53doing in terms of my marriage. Question. Do you have
- 15:57any other suggestion of how Jeffrey Epstein would know about
- 15:59your affairs or other details in this email except through
- 16:03doctor Nikolach Answer? I believe he found out about the
- 16:06two affairs through doctor Nikeolch. Mister Moran, And just to
- 16:10be clear, you asked about other details Gates, Yeah, I'm
- 16:14not commenting on that. All right, folks, We're gonna wrap
- 16:17up right here, and in the next episode dealing with
- 16:20the topic, we're gonna pick up where we left off.
- 16:23All the information that goes with this episode can be
- 16:25found in the description box.
