- 0:32Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to the Business Roundtable podcasts. I'm
- 0:37Speaker 1: so excited you guys to have Heather and Stacy back.
- 0:40Speaker 1: For those of you that are following along, Heather and
- 0:42Speaker 1: Stacy have been back on the podcast quite a while back,
- 0:46Speaker 1: and we were talking about health in a different aspect,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and so I invited them both back on the podcast
- 0:52Speaker 1: and I'll let them introduce themselves for our topic this week.
- 0:56Speaker 1: So without further ado, Heather, welcome back to the podcast.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Oh thank you so much, David. I really do appreciate
- 1:03Speaker 2: you having me here. I'm so excited about the topic.
- 1:07Speaker 2: When you talked about the topic in general, like I
- 1:09Speaker 2: was super excited and I saw some of the things
- 1:12Speaker 2: that we're looking at doing. I'm so excited to be here.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I am Heather Healer. I have been in a wellness
- 1:19Speaker 2: for thirty years, and I am a number one best
- 1:24Speaker 2: selling author as well as seen on Fox News and NBC,
- 1:28Speaker 2: ABC those kind of things. But most importantly, what I
- 1:32Speaker 2: do is I help people love themselves and I help
- 1:37Speaker 2: people with their wellness practices so they can fill their
- 1:40Speaker 2: best Awesome.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We're so excited, Heather, and I'm sure you'll sure some
- 1:44Speaker 1: more things you've been up to recently, so thanks and
- 1:46Speaker 1: welcome back. And Stacy was on our very first podcast
- 1:51Speaker 1: when we started this in twenty twenty three. She was
- 1:53Speaker 1: actually one of the inspired me to get this podcast going.
- 1:57Speaker 1: With her, we were talking earlier about your pioneer voice
- 1:59Speaker 1: and your visionary of so thank you Stacey, welcome back
- 2:02Speaker 1: to the podcast.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Thank you, David.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I'm excited to be back and also to be able
- 2:07Speaker 4: to have a conversation with Heather and so I am
- 2:11Speaker 4: Stacy canoshto with safe Synergy Solutions. I have been in
- 2:14Speaker 4: the financial industry for over ten years, and prior to that,
- 2:19Speaker 4: I was a business owner in California and just learn
- 2:24Speaker 4: to understand the challenges that business owners face wearing multiple hats.
- 2:29Speaker 4: We're trying to build their business and try to have
- 2:31Speaker 4: employees and keep complying and all that other stuff that
- 2:34Speaker 4: comes along with being an entrepreneur starting a business. And
- 2:36Speaker 4: so I currently work with business owners who are frustrated
- 2:41Speaker 4: in those areas of business. They don't have a culture
- 2:45Speaker 4: that promotes or encourages their employees to stay with them,
- 2:49Speaker 4: so there's turnover, there's you know, they're just they're trying
- 2:52Speaker 4: to do it all and keep to their bottom line,
- 2:55Speaker 4: increase their bottom line, and so I work with them
- 2:57Speaker 4: on strategies in those areas. And I'm excited about the
- 3:02Speaker 4: topic because I know that very well and it's just
- 3:05Speaker 4: one of my One of the eras that I pay
- 3:07Speaker 4: attention to in my own life and then in the
- 3:10Speaker 4: life of other entrepreneurs is health. And so I'm glad
- 3:12Speaker 4: to be able to have this conversation with Heather.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Yeah. Absolutely, so you both alluded to it, Yes, healthware focus.
- 3:19Speaker 1: We're here when we're recording this, it's the end of October,
- 3:22Speaker 1: We're almost on the precipice of November.
- 3:24Speaker 5: And I thought, you know, before you know it will
- 3:27Speaker 5: be at the end of the year.
- 3:29Speaker 1: We'll get through Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's and
- 3:32Speaker 1: all of those things.
- 3:33Speaker 5: And you know, it's difficult enough throughout the year with.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Running a business, like you said, Stacy, and being a leader,
- 3:41Speaker 1: whether you're the owner of the business, whether you're managing
- 3:43Speaker 1: a team. And so I thought, how can we be
- 3:45Speaker 1: more mindful about health and well being as we go
- 3:49Speaker 1: into the holiday season and be more prepared instead of
- 3:54Speaker 1: kind of caught unaware once again, you're like, oh my goodness,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I can't believe it's x next week or the week
- 3:59Speaker 1: after that, right, And like I wasn't really planning for that,
- 4:02Speaker 1: or I just wasn't anticipating it was going to be
- 4:04Speaker 1: so stressful that could lead to burnout, right or And
- 4:09Speaker 1: so we don't want people being burned out.
- 4:11Speaker 5: We don't.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And and there's a whole host of things too that
- 4:14Speaker 1: come along, perhaps even emotionally, that you're not you know,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you're not processing right and dealing with when you're going
- 4:19Speaker 1: through the holidays. And so I just thought, how they
- 4:23Speaker 1: will start with you first and then come to you Stacey,
- 4:25Speaker 1: but just talk about how do we understand and get
- 4:27Speaker 1: wrap rounds around the holiday strain about health and work.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Well, I think one of the first things to understand
- 4:35Speaker 2: about the holidays is the holidays in and of themselves, well,
- 4:39Speaker 2: they may be wonderful, they do just bring a certain
- 4:42Speaker 2: amount of stress with them. They also would be able
- 4:45Speaker 2: to speak more to this. They also bring a financial stress,
- 4:48Speaker 2: financial burden to a lot of people. Everyone wants to
- 4:52Speaker 2: show up their best and do their most. But the
- 4:54Speaker 2: other thing that a lot of people aren't aware of
- 4:58Speaker 2: is that holidays for anyone who's experienced trauma at some
- 5:03Speaker 2: point during the holidays are already tremulous for them, right,
- 5:08Speaker 2: so you're going to have you are going to have
- 5:11Speaker 2: at least one employee statistic statistically the struggles with the
- 5:15Speaker 2: holidays in general, and so as a leaders, as an owner,
- 5:20Speaker 2: you know it's your job to help facilitate a healthy environment,
- 5:25Speaker 2: not just you know, make sure that everyone's eating right
- 5:28Speaker 2: or that you're eating right, and providing different options for
- 5:31Speaker 2: environmental health is very very important. Understanding the stress levels
- 5:35Speaker 2: are higher, Understand that there are some people who've got
- 5:38Speaker 2: probably got more strained than others. In fact, I found
- 5:45Speaker 2: out just today when I was doing some research that
- 5:48Speaker 2: Christmas Eve, on Christmas Eve, there's a thirty seven percent
- 5:52Speaker 2: higher risk of a heart attack than any other part
- 5:55Speaker 2: of the year.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Wow, Christmas need Yes, So did they attribute that to
- 6:01Speaker 3: Heather just there?
- 6:03Speaker 2: There are several things. One is the added stress, higher
- 6:08Speaker 2: blood pressure, dealing with difficult possibly family members, not eating right,
- 6:17Speaker 2: over indulging in bad foods, wailing to nourish your body,
- 6:21Speaker 2: as well excessive alcohol consumption. But mostly they kind of
- 6:27Speaker 2: attribute it to poor eating. Over eating and high stress
- 6:34Speaker 2: situations is what they primarily contributed to. So the holidays
- 6:40Speaker 2: bring real stress. As wonderful as they can be. I
- 6:43Speaker 2: love the holidays, They're not wonderful for everybody, and I
- 6:47Speaker 2: think it's important to that of mind. You have the
- 6:51Speaker 2: opportunity to bring joy to other people's lives, and that
- 6:54Speaker 2: in and of itself is also another aspect of wellness.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Mm hmm. Absolutely. How about you?
- 7:00Speaker 1: How about you, Stacy? What what do you see here?
- 7:02Speaker 1: Kind of understanding this holiday stream. We've kind of talked
- 7:04Speaker 1: about physical and kundamental strain, but what have you seen Stacey?
- 7:10Speaker 5: Kind of.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yes, you know what, I look at it like this.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna separate and bring it together. So
- 7:17Speaker 4: it makes sense. You've got pressures on the job as
- 7:21Speaker 4: an either as an employer or as an employee, and
- 7:24Speaker 4: you have social pressures in your social life. And I
- 7:28Speaker 4: think that if Heather said the keyword is be prepared,
- 7:32Speaker 4: I think Gived you said that too. So I'm gonna
- 7:34Speaker 4: I'm gonna separate them because even though they somehow tie together,
- 7:39Speaker 4: I think from a social aspect a lot of times
- 7:43Speaker 4: that the pressure that we have during the holiday season
- 7:47Speaker 4: is based on our expectations or what we or what
- 7:52Speaker 4: we perceive as expectations from other people. So for example,
- 7:57Speaker 4: like the holiday food and the drinking and whatnot. Well,
- 7:59Speaker 4: just because you go to a holiday party doesn't mean
- 8:01Speaker 4: you have to eat like a pig, or eat before
- 8:04Speaker 4: you you know, or or drink like a pig.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Whatever you aren't called.
- 8:09Speaker 4: The point is that you have to understand what your
- 8:11Speaker 4: limitations are, what your goals are, and just be mentally
- 8:15Speaker 4: prepared before you go. Not just go to these parties
- 8:20Speaker 4: and like set some limits and boundaries expectations for yourself.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I'm gonna have three drinks, I'm gonna I'm gonna watch
- 8:27Speaker 4: my consumptions, like be mentally aware of when you go
- 8:32Speaker 4: maybe past behavior and what you what your goals are
- 8:35Speaker 4: for current behavior. That's one thing. The other thing is
- 8:38Speaker 4: the other social pressure I think hither alluded to is
- 8:41Speaker 4: the financial When you think you have to give a
- 8:44Speaker 4: gift to every Tom, Dick and Harry, plus Grandma and
- 8:47Speaker 4: great grandma and the dog and the cat, then you
- 8:49Speaker 4: start taking on those financial pressures like I need to.
- 8:53Speaker 4: I remember my love giving it personal because I would
- 8:56Speaker 4: live with my parents when we were younger. They used
- 8:59Speaker 4: to I was like tons and tons of toys under
- 9:03Speaker 4: the tree and it was exciting as a child. But
- 9:06Speaker 4: then I saw them after Christmas be very stressed out
- 9:11Speaker 4: because of the financial the debt. And so when I
- 9:14Speaker 4: had my children, I went into that. My daughter, my
- 9:18Speaker 4: first child, I remember saying, we got to go out
- 9:21Speaker 4: and buy all these gifts. And I had the same mindset.
- 9:27Speaker 4: So when she when she wakes up to see all
- 9:29Speaker 4: these gifts under the tree, and my husband at the
- 9:32Speaker 4: time said, who is from a different culture, said, she's
- 9:36Speaker 4: only two years old. She don't know whether you know
- 9:40Speaker 4: all these gifts. You know, all we need to do
- 9:42Speaker 4: is spend a certain amount and then she's gonna get
- 9:44Speaker 4: gifts from her grandparents and so and so. And then
- 9:47Speaker 4: it made sense and I said the like, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 4: and so that pressure too to not have to go
- 9:55Speaker 4: out and buy all these gifts. The other thing too,
- 9:57Speaker 4: is like you know, when families get together. I remember
- 10:01Speaker 4: one time, like we had a family get together and
- 10:03Speaker 4: we're talking about gifts, and I'm thinking if I had
- 10:06Speaker 4: to buy gifts for every single family member, I would
- 10:09Speaker 4: that was that's also a financial strain. So we came
- 10:12Speaker 4: up with an idea of picking names and a hat
- 10:15Speaker 4: and making it a fun event so you can you
- 10:18Speaker 4: can look at some of your your your culture, your
- 10:23Speaker 4: what is the word your holiday traditions. I mean, people
- 10:26Speaker 4: are just so stuck about holiday traditions that they don't
- 10:29Speaker 4: know any better or they don't want to do make
- 10:31Speaker 4: any changes. But just making those slight adjustments can also
- 10:35Speaker 4: alleviate some of the stress, financial, mental, social pressure.
- 10:40Speaker 3: That you have in your personal life. So it doesn't
- 10:44Speaker 3: make sense.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I don't know, Heather, you want well, I want I
- 10:47Speaker 1: wanted to pick up on that because you both talked
- 10:48Speaker 1: a couple of things, and I like where you're going, Stacey,
- 10:51Speaker 1: because we want and one of the areas we talked
- 10:53Speaker 1: about is getting a little deeper dive into some personal
- 10:56Speaker 1: strategies for well being.
- 10:58Speaker 5: But I think you know.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Again, I think Heather, you brought this up like, look
- 11:03Speaker 1: you now you may have handled this well, but your
- 11:04Speaker 1: other team members may not have handled this well. So
- 11:06Speaker 1: how do you like look, you know, looking at this
- 11:08Speaker 1: and being aware of like you said, you might be
- 11:12Speaker 1: not getting enough rest because you're trying to do get
- 11:15Speaker 1: all the holiday stuff in squeezed in. There's also other events, right,
- 11:19Speaker 1: So again, if you're not being prepared, you're just erupted
- 11:22Speaker 1: routines right that you're normally having and I think you
- 11:25Speaker 1: both alluded to this. I and indulgent eating is just
- 11:28Speaker 1: it's kind of interesting now that you guys say this.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I don't know why I ever thought about this, but
- 11:32Speaker 1: you know, it's a coping mechanism to a certain degree, right,
- 11:35Speaker 1: because you're stressed and then the food's right there, so
- 11:37Speaker 1: you're kind of like it's unhealthy, but you're it's tied
- 11:41Speaker 1: to this of you know, the physical wellbeing, right or
- 11:44Speaker 1: what you're dealing with mentally, and so it's it's a
- 11:48Speaker 1: it's a coping mechanism, not a healthy one, but it's
- 11:51Speaker 1: a coping mechanism to a degree, right that we've kind
- 11:54Speaker 1: of created. And I think honestly, companies, you know, see
- 12:00Speaker 1: that there's a demand for it, unhealthy demand, but there's
- 12:02Speaker 1: a demand for it. So they kind of like, oh, well,
- 12:04Speaker 1: let's give you some more chocolate, Let's give you some
- 12:06Speaker 1: more you know.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Whatever this is.
- 12:09Speaker 3: It is it a corporate I beg the difference and
- 12:13Speaker 3: I love it.
- 12:15Speaker 4: I think the corporate is just mimicking the expectations that
- 12:20Speaker 4: we have in society, and that is holidays is about
- 12:24Speaker 4: all indulging.
- 12:25Speaker 3: I mean, think about it. Even so the reason.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Why I brought up the personal first is because we
- 12:30Speaker 4: take that same culture and mindset and bring it.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Into the workforce.
- 12:33Speaker 4: So I'm gonna separate it from employer toes. I mean
- 12:37Speaker 4: every holiday, I mean, I don't know how many plates
- 12:41Speaker 4: of cookies and chocolates and and it's part of the festivities,
- 12:45Speaker 4: but it's also part of the fifteen pounds that people
- 12:48Speaker 4: gain every holiday season. It contributes to that. So part
- 12:52Speaker 4: of it is just you know, as holiday season, oh
- 12:53Speaker 4: there's some cookies, and you think that you are I
- 12:56Speaker 4: mean what is more fun a plate of chocolates and
- 12:59Speaker 4: cookies or playing care sticks for the holidays? I mean
- 13:02Speaker 4: so if somebody brought in carrots and celery and whatnot,
- 13:05Speaker 4: they would probably think, we can eat this anytime we
- 13:07Speaker 4: want to have fun. So I guess, how do you
- 13:10Speaker 4: now adapt a healthier way of dealing with the holidays
- 13:18Speaker 4: and bring it into the workforce. That would be the question.
- 13:20Speaker 4: And I think that and it could start from top
- 13:23Speaker 4: to bottom. You're not going to police the staff and
- 13:26Speaker 4: say shame on you for bringing chocolate and cookies, but yes,
- 13:31Speaker 4: you know, but you can create an environment where it
- 13:33Speaker 4: promotes health and wellness and or people are more conscientious
- 13:37Speaker 4: about the types of foods they bring in during a
- 13:39Speaker 4: holiday season. But that's like a culture that you have
- 13:42Speaker 4: to create in the company, you know.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I agree, And I want to ask Heather this question
- 13:46Speaker 1: because I think that you bring a really good point, Stacy,
- 13:48Speaker 1: because for example, what if if somebody is feeling the
- 13:51Speaker 1: strain of like like they're bringing cookies or maybe they
- 13:54Speaker 1: bring a gift or something, and so how do we
- 13:57Speaker 1: handle this because they're feeling stressed or the team around
- 14:00Speaker 1: I'll may drop because well, this person's doing this.
- 14:03Speaker 5: To shoot, say I do this too, and so how
- 14:05Speaker 5: do we be intentional? And so kind of leading into
- 14:07Speaker 5: how do we be.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Balance the work and do this in a in a
- 14:12Speaker 1: thoughtful way to where like.
- 14:14Speaker 5: I won't discourage somebody, but also like be aware.
- 14:20Speaker 1: That we're not, you know, causing people more stress, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 1: causing challenges to more people.
- 14:26Speaker 5: You know.
- 14:27Speaker 1: So I guess Heather, I'd love to have your response
- 14:29Speaker 1: to what Stacy's asking here.
- 14:32Speaker 5: How can we be more mindful of that?
- 14:35Speaker 2: Well, I think we both we both said it. First
- 14:38Speaker 2: of all, you need to be aware that this is
- 14:40Speaker 2: the way it is, this is a thing, and be
- 14:42Speaker 2: honest with yourself about who you are and how you are.
- 14:45Speaker 2: For instance, if there's a plate of cookies, I'm going
- 14:49Speaker 2: to have one. It's not it's not a matter of willpower.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I'm going to have one now. If I have one, great,
- 14:58Speaker 2: but if I have five, not so great. The other
- 15:02Speaker 2: thing is a lot of that kind of stuff that
- 15:04Speaker 2: we see during the holidays. It's stuff I don't have
- 15:07Speaker 2: in my house for one very good reasons because if
- 15:09Speaker 2: it's there, I eat it. I don't have a lot
- 15:12Speaker 2: of willpower when it comes to holiday goods. By the
- 15:17Speaker 2: same token, my lives to bake for the holidays, so
- 15:22Speaker 2: I have to prepare myself and remind myself of how
- 15:25Speaker 2: to properly eat how to do that. So first of all,
- 15:28Speaker 2: I recommend, if you're the leader, or even if you're
- 15:32Speaker 2: a team member, be that person that brings in a
- 15:35Speaker 2: tray of vegetables, because, believe it or not, those things
- 15:39Speaker 2: are appreciated. But it goes beyond eating, right, how about
- 15:46Speaker 2: instead of bringing in a plate of goodies every day,
- 15:49Speaker 2: because especially like when I worked at the bank, oh,
- 15:52Speaker 2: we had tons of stuff coming in. Stuff coming in.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I mean we couldn't get rid of it. But what
- 16:00Speaker 2: about what about a nice plant to put on the desk.
- 16:03Speaker 2: What about a nice plant to put on the desk.
- 16:05Speaker 2: You're getting this nice oxygen exhale. Maybe a little you
- 16:10Speaker 2: can do a what do you call it, a diffuser.
- 16:14Speaker 2: You don't even have to have oil in it, but
- 16:15Speaker 2: the nice fresh moisture going into the air. These things
- 16:19Speaker 2: that can help set a more tranquil mind, so you're
- 16:22Speaker 2: not as prone to jump into some of those other things.
- 16:27Speaker 2: But when it comes to eating that stuff, a lot
- 16:29Speaker 2: of people don't understand. You know, we're talking the workforce here,
- 16:33Speaker 2: but it's on a personal level as well. Right, you
- 16:37Speaker 2: see your friends for the holiday, maybe you're having an
- 16:40Speaker 2: ornament exchange. Everyone brings a bunch of goodies, right, huge
- 16:45Speaker 2: plated goodies home. Well, be that person that doesn't bring sweets. Right,
- 16:51Speaker 2: go ahead and be that person that nobody likes. But
- 16:57Speaker 2: but you know, there's so many other ways that you
- 16:59Speaker 2: can you can be involved without it actually being food.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And if you're going to have that stuff, be aware
- 17:08Speaker 2: that if you eat a candy bar one day at
- 17:11Speaker 2: three pm, guess what is going to happen to you
- 17:14Speaker 2: at three eight pm the next day? You're going to
- 17:17Speaker 2: want a candy bar, a lot of people don't understand
- 17:20Speaker 2: how that works because sugar is that addictive. It is
- 17:24Speaker 2: that addictive, and sugar free sweets are not any better
- 17:29Speaker 2: because the body still thinks it's about to get sugar.
- 17:32Speaker 2: It kicks in the insulin and then things are really
- 17:35Speaker 2: out of whap, which adds to stress, discomfort within the body, homeostasis. Right,
- 17:41Speaker 2: So all of that, all of that, but there's so
- 17:44Speaker 2: many things that you can do. Cultivate something in the
- 17:47Speaker 2: work environment which I like to call, you know, kind
- 17:51Speaker 2: of like the secret Santa. Right, do a secret wellness partner?
- 17:59Speaker 2: Think about that? What can you do if you if
- 18:01Speaker 2: you guys do names and you were helping each other
- 18:04Speaker 2: stay healthy, enjoy the holidays, yes, enjoy the goodies, but
- 18:08Speaker 2: also have healthy practices. Think about what you could do
- 18:12Speaker 2: and say like little notes, it'll get whatever, but you
- 18:16Speaker 2: can really encourage one another. And I think the other
- 18:18Speaker 2: thing too is if you think about after the holidays,
- 18:22Speaker 2: what does January bring? We talked about right, and and
- 18:29Speaker 2: financial strain because you're over you know, every everything about
- 18:33Speaker 2: the holidays is based on over indulgence. Over indulgents in
- 18:37Speaker 2: every aspect, alcohol, sugar, things, people, parties and those things
- 18:47Speaker 2: aren't bad. But you know what, here's another thing is
- 18:50Speaker 2: just because you're invited doesn't mean you have to go.
- 18:54Speaker 5: Mmm mmmm, that's important too.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Yeah, looking at if you're looking at health, and if
- 19:03Speaker 2: you've been working towards health, you need some concentive to
- 19:08Speaker 2: get through the holidays with that, because who wants to
- 19:10Speaker 2: be at the beginning of the next year jumping on
- 19:14Speaker 2: that bandwagon of now I've got to make up for
- 19:16Speaker 2: the last two months of not taking care of myself,
- 19:19Speaker 2: and heaven forbid we fall into one of that thirty
- 19:22Speaker 2: seven percent on Christmas Eve have heart.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Attack Jesus right, yeah, I mean.
- 19:29Speaker 2: It's horrible and a lot of people die from their
- 19:31Speaker 2: heart attacks on Christmas Eve because when they first start
- 19:35Speaker 2: having problems, they don't tell anybody why because they don't
- 19:39Speaker 2: want to ruin the fund. They don't want to mess
- 19:40Speaker 2: up the party, so they don't want to be taken
- 19:43Speaker 2: to the hospital.
- 19:45Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Either I want to ask you a cool pollo up
- 19:47Speaker 1: question or and or Stacy, because I think you guys
- 19:50Speaker 1: are both getting at how do we encourage have any
- 19:54Speaker 1: encourage this healthy workplace? And I really like what you
- 19:56Speaker 1: just said was just because you're invited to a party
- 20:00Speaker 1: or an event or experience, doesn't don't feel like especially
- 20:02Speaker 1: if you feel like I'm gonna over indulge, Like if
- 20:05Speaker 1: I go to this, I'm going to probably drink too
- 20:07Speaker 1: much or I'm gonna eat too much. And I know myself,
- 20:10Speaker 1: and so, you know, how do we create ways as
- 20:13Speaker 1: leaders that can encourage people to work effectively and have flexibility?
- 20:21Speaker 5: And I think in today's I call.
- 20:23Speaker 1: A distributed workforce where people aren't all coming into an office,
- 20:26Speaker 1: how do we make sense of creating that flexibility or
- 20:31Speaker 1: remote days or adjusting hours that get all the work done,
- 20:35Speaker 1: or figure out what they're different obligations because I've got
- 20:37Speaker 1: to go to this, I feel like I've got to
- 20:39Speaker 1: go to this event, my kid's doing something, or you know,
- 20:42Speaker 1: I got to go there. So how to like readdress
- 20:44Speaker 1: that in a healthy way so that people don't feel
- 20:46Speaker 1: like just I feel like, I guess I've got to
- 20:49Speaker 1: do this.
- 20:49Speaker 5: I've got to make it work. You know.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Well, I think there's two side to it, David, And
- 20:54Speaker 4: we're talking about holidays, but I think business planning period
- 20:58Speaker 4: is essential to have uh uh an effective workforce and
- 21:04Speaker 4: and uh work culture and so and that needs to
- 21:08Speaker 4: start way before the holidays come, and I think you
- 21:11Speaker 4: need to understand and I think this part of it
- 21:15Speaker 4: is just pacing the work out or the expectations of
- 21:17Speaker 4: the workers out, anticipating that the holidays bring in additional stress,
- 21:23Speaker 4: maybe even figuring out how to allow for all the
- 21:27Speaker 4: other disruptions, the parties, the people getting sick with the
- 21:31Speaker 4: traveling and whatnot. I know for a lot of employers,
- 21:35Speaker 4: they're looking at it from a business perspective. How to
- 21:38Speaker 4: make sure that the shifts are covered that I can
- 21:41Speaker 4: run my business. And so you know, during the holidays,
- 21:43Speaker 4: a lot of people want to take off time. They
- 21:45Speaker 4: want to they want to put file for their vacation time.
- 21:49Speaker 4: But as everybody took off at the same time, you
- 21:51Speaker 4: can't run a business.
- 21:53Speaker 3: So how do you how do you allow.
- 21:55Speaker 4: For for for those disruptions as well to keep your
- 21:58Speaker 4: business running and still keep your em I mean that's
- 22:02Speaker 4: where you have to have either a good HR or
- 22:05Speaker 4: good way of managing your your staff to be able
- 22:08Speaker 4: to accommodate, you know, some of the stresses or whatnot.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Right, you don't want to feel like I've got that
- 22:16Speaker 1: request to Stacy where somebody's like, oh, I didn't you know,
- 22:20Speaker 1: if you don't plan it right, and then you're the
- 22:21Speaker 1: bad guy supervisor whatever, I'm sorry, I can't approve your
- 22:24Speaker 1: time off.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Well, how come you're you're being selective?
- 22:27Speaker 1: This person gets their time off and it causes a whole
- 22:29Speaker 1: lot of change in morale right, not planning for it.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It's like it seems arbitrary, and so people get really
- 22:35Speaker 1: frustrated because they.
- 22:38Speaker 2: So but no, go ahead, Henny.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Well, well I'm saying that that again is part of system.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Putting systems in place to run your business and being
- 22:49Speaker 4: able to track, you know, having a good Is that
- 22:52Speaker 4: what you're going to say, Heather? But I think even
- 22:55Speaker 4: with the with the company culture. I mean, for example,
- 22:59Speaker 4: if you you are the owner of a business, you
- 23:01Speaker 4: can say gather yourself and say, look, you know, we
- 23:05Speaker 4: understand that this is a holiday season, it's festive and whatnot,
- 23:09Speaker 4: and get.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Some buy in.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Why don't we have fun, but yet created like, you know,
- 23:15Speaker 4: an environment where everybody stays healthy, So what does that
- 23:18Speaker 4: look like?
- 23:19Speaker 3: And get some buy in from your staff and just say,
- 23:20Speaker 3: you know, you have.
- 23:22Speaker 4: A Christmas part a holiday party, not Christmas holiday party,
- 23:25Speaker 4: and we have a mixture of holiday goodies and whatnot
- 23:29Speaker 4: and make it like a Holida Day party not a
- 23:32Speaker 4: Hall of Month party. O. Yeah, And the challenge with
- 23:41Speaker 4: holidays is that people get into Hall of Month mode
- 23:44Speaker 4: and not Holidays. So then you've got the suites and
- 23:46Speaker 4: stuff coming in for what from Thanksgiving to after New Year's.
- 23:52Speaker 3: St Halloween from Halloween.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Rush, Halloween picks up the sugar rush. I mean, I
- 24:00Speaker 2: don't know a parent out there with kids that as
- 24:02Speaker 2: soon as the kids get home, they don't dig through
- 24:04Speaker 2: their kids stuff for the good candy.
- 24:07Speaker 5: You know it. That's called the parent.
- 24:15Speaker 4: A bad time to make better habits and straight up
- 24:20Speaker 4: more positive culture for your family, for your office.
- 24:23Speaker 3: The challenge is is that a lot of people won't
- 24:28Speaker 3: challenge the status quo. You know.
- 24:32Speaker 4: You know, I heard a story one time that a
- 24:35Speaker 4: mother cooks her hand. The way she cooks her ham
- 24:39Speaker 4: is that she cuts the ends off of the ham.
- 24:41Speaker 4: And you hear that story, and I guess someone asked
- 24:46Speaker 4: her daughter asked, well, mom, why do you cut the
- 24:47Speaker 4: ends off on the pan?
- 24:49Speaker 3: And she said, well, your grandmother did it.
- 24:51Speaker 4: And then when they asked the grandmother, grandmother, why do
- 24:53Speaker 4: you cut the ends off of the ham before you
- 24:55Speaker 4: put it in the pen. She goes, well, the turkey
- 24:57Speaker 4: the ham was too big and so I had to
- 24:59Speaker 4: cut the the ends off of today how to fit
- 25:01Speaker 4: in the pan.
- 25:02Speaker 3: But it's funny how traditions.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Are carried on about what we see and not understanding
- 25:06Speaker 4: the reason behind the traditions. So, you know, people don't
- 25:10Speaker 4: like change, but I think it takes someone to stay gets,
- 25:16Speaker 4: you know, show them, show them the vision of what
- 25:18Speaker 4: it could be. Hey, look we can still have fun.
- 25:20Speaker 4: We could do all this, but it's a stressful time.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Why don't we do X Y Z.
- 25:25Speaker 3: And it takes a little curse to be the one that.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Sticks your neck out to to, you know, introduce change.
- 25:32Speaker 4: But but you have to have buy in so they
- 25:34Speaker 4: understand that this is going to benefit them as well,
- 25:37Speaker 4: not just.
- 25:37Speaker 2: It needs to be inclusive, right, I think you're saying
- 25:40Speaker 2: this is inclusive. It needs to be supportive. It needs
- 25:43Speaker 2: to be encompassing for everybody.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Right to get buy in, Yes, to get buying. Now
- 25:50Speaker 4: you can be a dictator and just saying no. You know,
- 25:52Speaker 4: but we're talking about adults. Adults want to be treated
- 25:55Speaker 4: like adults.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Well we're talking coming at this from the business. Well
- 26:00Speaker 2: we're all business owners in this particular talk business owners managers.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Well, when the employees, employees want to be treated like adults,
- 26:09Speaker 4: not school therefore shame on you. So you've got to
- 26:14Speaker 4: get some buying from other adults to be because you
- 26:17Speaker 4: need that to create that culture where people feel like
- 26:19Speaker 4: they belong and that they're part of a bigger community.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Stacy, you said one thing real quick, Heather when
- 26:27Speaker 1: I come to you. But I wanted Stacy, I really
- 26:29Speaker 1: like the holiday versus the whole of month concept.
- 26:33Speaker 5: That's a good one.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Well, but what makes me think of what happens is
- 26:36Speaker 1: what we're trying to do is you know, we're trying
- 26:38Speaker 1: to do good things like creating a team blunch or
- 26:41Speaker 1: creating gratitude and and these things, but we're seeming like
- 26:44Speaker 1: we're cramming it if in some cases people are cramming
- 26:48Speaker 1: it into you know, at the end of the year,
- 26:51Speaker 1: when you could be intentional throughout the year in doing
- 26:55Speaker 1: these things and creating a better, healthier culture.
- 26:58Speaker 5: And so it's like I missed this one.
- 27:00Speaker 1: It's not gonna be the end of the world, you know,
- 27:02Speaker 1: because that's what I feel sometimes the pressure of the
- 27:03Speaker 1: end of your company party. I guess everybody's got to
- 27:06Speaker 1: go to This is the one thing everybody's gonna do.
- 27:08Speaker 5: If I don't show this up, how are they going
- 27:10Speaker 5: to look at me?
- 27:11Speaker 1: Or I've got a conflict because I've got to go
- 27:13Speaker 1: to something with my family or whatever. And so it
- 27:15Speaker 1: should I don't think it should as that kind of pressure.
- 27:19Speaker 5: I think is you know, we need to.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Provide other out like you said, like you said, Heather inclusiveness, right,
- 27:27Speaker 1: So yeah, Heathery, go ahead. It was just that was
- 27:29Speaker 1: what I thought to me, trying to cram it in
- 27:32Speaker 1: instead of let's let's expand this out.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Sure, well, and you know, I get so excited. I
- 27:40Speaker 2: just can't help myself. You guys are saying such good stuff.
- 27:45Speaker 2: But I think that I think that there are so
- 27:49Speaker 2: many ways that we can be inclusive and treat the
- 27:53Speaker 2: employees or treat our peers or colleagues as adults. Obviously,
- 27:58Speaker 2: there are so very many ways. Is and if you
- 28:02Speaker 2: think about the things that we do throughout the year,
- 28:05Speaker 2: why can't some of those same things be done throughout
- 28:08Speaker 2: the holidays with a with a slant on, a little
- 28:12Speaker 2: extra slant on, you know, how to deal with everything, right,
- 28:17Speaker 2: There's so many things that can be done. One of
- 28:21Speaker 2: the things that I used to do is I would
- 28:23Speaker 2: do a little form, you know, if we if we
- 28:27Speaker 2: were looking at this, this or this, which would be
- 28:29Speaker 2: your option, you know, giving people the option to choose,
- 28:33Speaker 2: giving people an option to run a little mini meeting
- 28:35Speaker 2: in the morning. How are we going to be healthy today?
- 28:38Speaker 2: I it is my personal belief that every business should
- 28:41Speaker 2: have a wellness minute in the morning, every bus because
- 28:48Speaker 2: I think it's important for the employees to know also
- 28:52Speaker 2: that their health matters. Their health matters, not just for
- 28:56Speaker 2: their sake, not for the business's sake, not for your sake,
- 28:59Speaker 2: but health matters, just like your health matters. Ultimately, it's
- 29:04Speaker 2: not just about productivity. It's about quality of life. It's
- 29:08Speaker 2: about atmosphere in the environment you're in. When you consider
- 29:13Speaker 2: that the winter months, there's a lot of depression, right,
- 29:17Speaker 2: there's a lot of depression. There's grace skis, you know,
- 29:21Speaker 2: having a little extra light in the office. There's just
- 29:24Speaker 2: so many things that can be done, you know, in
- 29:27Speaker 2: an inclusive way and encourage people to talk about it
- 29:32Speaker 2: and do these things. But yeah, for the purposes of
- 29:37Speaker 2: this talk, we're talking about how to do that. In holidays,
- 29:39Speaker 2: because how many of you Maybe you guys are not
- 29:42Speaker 2: like me, but how many people out there have really
- 29:47Speaker 2: done really well? You know, how many people get their
- 29:50Speaker 2: summer body. Everyone is this diet now it's for the
- 29:52Speaker 2: summer body. Now the holidays are here, it's cold. I
- 29:55Speaker 2: don't want to get out. So January, oh, I got
- 29:58Speaker 2: to get back in shape. We don't have to live
- 30:00Speaker 2: like that, right, we have the option, like you said,
- 30:04Speaker 2: to be cultivating that all year long. But I mean,
- 30:07Speaker 2: I will tell you I always, when I worked in
- 30:10Speaker 2: an office space where that kind of stuff was brought
- 30:13Speaker 2: in in abundance, I always started out really good. By
- 30:19Speaker 2: Christmas time everything was out the door. Now I didn't
- 30:23Speaker 2: gain fifteen pounds because I did did kind of paste
- 30:26Speaker 2: myself earlier on. But eventually the sugar addiction overcame me.
- 30:31Speaker 2: And so it's important that you know yourself as well.
- 30:34Speaker 5: Yes, right, So you.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Want to take it on a corporate level or a
- 30:39Speaker 4: business level. I think the employer can only be so
- 30:44Speaker 4: responsible for so much. Absolutely, you know, I do you know,
- 30:49Speaker 4: as I do group benefits, and I do see a
- 30:53Speaker 4: larger the larger companies they do have the resources to
- 30:56Speaker 4: be able to offer more benefits working on a case,
- 31:00Speaker 4: and they had a a program to help employees stop smoking.
- 31:07Speaker 3: They have for mental health.
- 31:09Speaker 4: They have like an app on their phone that they
- 31:12Speaker 4: can actually do scan their body and do all these
- 31:15Speaker 4: checkups and whatnot. There's the technologies out there, the programs
- 31:18Speaker 4: are out there. The larger companies understand the importance of offering
- 31:23Speaker 4: employee benefits and they make those resources available. The smaller companies, however,
- 31:29Speaker 4: that were the multiple hats that have the mindset. A
- 31:32Speaker 4: lot of them are technicians and are learning to run
- 31:36Speaker 4: a business. Those are the ones that I think the
- 31:38Speaker 4: employees may suffer even more. The employees may take comfort
- 31:42Speaker 4: us in a more quaint environment because it's not like.
- 31:44Speaker 3: This huge corporation, so they may feel like they're part
- 31:47Speaker 3: of a smaller tribe.
- 31:49Speaker 4: But as far as resources, a lot of the small
- 31:52Speaker 4: busts owners are not aware of those resources, and therefore
- 31:54Speaker 4: the employee is responsible on his or her own to
- 32:00Speaker 4: out those resources. Uh. By the way, that's where I
- 32:02Speaker 4: can come in and assist them. But I think that
- 32:05Speaker 4: that again, I want to be careful that the responsibility
- 32:09Speaker 4: my health unresponsible for my own health, and if and
- 32:13Speaker 4: if an employer offers resources, it's up to me to
- 32:16Speaker 4: take advantage of those resources. So but you know, there again,
- 32:21Speaker 4: you can have a company that offers resources and you
- 32:23Speaker 4: still have people that will indulge throughout the year.
- 32:26Speaker 3: And so.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Absolutely, I think the best impact we think on it
- 32:33Speaker 4: is to uh deal with the individual and help them
- 32:37Speaker 4: understand the importance of health and making better choices so
- 32:40Speaker 4: that when they are exposed to because they're going to
- 32:43Speaker 4: go outside of work and drink anyway and.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Go to I do absolutely, you know what I'm saying.
- 32:49Speaker 2: So and I think though, and you know, Stacy, I
- 32:53Speaker 2: interrupted you again, finish and then I'll no, no, no,
- 32:56Speaker 2: You're fine, go ahead, I am. I think I think
- 33:00Speaker 2: that's where something you said earlier is so important, and
- 33:05Speaker 2: that is that ultimately I'm responsible for me, You're responsible
- 33:12Speaker 2: for you, Yes, absolutely, and we can facilitate an environment
- 33:16Speaker 2: that offers great advantages. You can't force someone to take
- 33:20Speaker 2: those advantages, right, And I think that's where like teams,
- 33:25Speaker 2: you know, having you know, teamwork or team activities stuff together.
- 33:30Speaker 2: So I don't know if any business it doesn't have
- 33:32Speaker 2: team activities throughout the year, right, So why not have
- 33:36Speaker 2: team activities around health during the holidays? Or there's there's
- 33:42Speaker 2: absolutely I don't think that if you're the owner of
- 33:46Speaker 2: a small business with two or three employees, or if
- 33:49Speaker 2: you own a multimillion trillion dollar business and you've got
- 33:53Speaker 2: hundreds of employees, it's not your job to personally see
- 33:57Speaker 2: to the wellness of every single person. It's not possible.
- 34:01Speaker 2: It's not possible. So I completely agree with you that
- 34:04Speaker 2: that's there. But I do know that when you have
- 34:07Speaker 2: teams like the Secret Santa Thing or the Secret Wellness Buddy,
- 34:11Speaker 2: there are people who will choose not to be part
- 34:14Speaker 2: of the secret Wellness program. Right. There are people who
- 34:17Speaker 2: won't do it bottom line, Right, right, there are people
- 34:21Speaker 2: who will go to the party and drink until they're
- 34:24Speaker 2: sick as a dog instead of drinking maybe uh clubs
- 34:29Speaker 2: sowed in between every drink and make sure they're eating
- 34:31Speaker 2: before they start drinking. Right, It's going to happen. And
- 34:36Speaker 2: every one of us in this world have over indulged
- 34:38Speaker 2: in something at some point, So it's not a judgment thing.
- 34:41Speaker 2: But if it's something that matters to you, if your
- 34:44Speaker 2: health and wellness matters to you, there are things that
- 34:47Speaker 2: can be done within the workforce. You as a leader
- 34:51Speaker 2: can facilitate and encourage.
- 34:53Speaker 6: But the absolutely yeah, yeah, well both of you said this,
- 34:59Speaker 6: but goes back to intention, it goes back to planning,
- 35:02Speaker 6: it goes back to you know, creating that space.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I really like that you said, Heather, this this wellness
- 35:07Speaker 1: moment because it reminds me and I know your husband
- 35:10Speaker 1: does a lot of stuff and like the energy in
- 35:14Speaker 1: construction and things of that nature, and so I've done
- 35:16Speaker 1: a lot of that in the past where I've been
- 35:18Speaker 1: as a biologist, but working in there and almost every day,
- 35:21Speaker 1: almost I would say generally speaking, it's practice. If you're
- 35:24Speaker 1: out in the field, you have a safety moment. You're
- 35:27Speaker 1: always looking at a safety to talk about something for
- 35:30Speaker 1: that day. You pick a topic it's relevant to the
- 35:33Speaker 1: work that you're doing, and everybody's and they may have
- 35:36Speaker 1: heard this before. It's nothing, it's nothing really revolutionary new,
- 35:39Speaker 1: but it's a intentional reminder that this is important and
- 35:43Speaker 1: this is the way we want to behave and you know,
- 35:45Speaker 1: and I think what happens is, like you were saying earlier, staycy,
- 35:48Speaker 1: sometimes we forget that intentionality and then everybody just gets busy.
- 35:55Speaker 1: And that's what I think happens. Everybody just gets going
- 35:58Speaker 1: you got so many things coming at you, and then
- 36:01Speaker 1: you lack that intentionality and so then, like you said,
- 36:04Speaker 1: howether you get stressed?
- 36:05Speaker 5: I just see the cookie your teeth that.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I'm running around and we get the next thing done,
- 36:09Speaker 1: and it's like hold on, we need like like the
- 36:12Speaker 1: creating spaces too, like you you said, CC, if we
- 36:16Speaker 1: plan for it, then we're going to be much more successful.
- 36:20Speaker 5: So on the each.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Monday of the month, we're going to do a ten
- 36:23Speaker 1: minute wellness moment.
- 36:24Speaker 5: We're going to talk about how we can be better.
- 36:25Speaker 5: You know what I mean. I'm just giving you an example.
- 36:27Speaker 5: But the idea is that we're we're.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Showing up and we're saying these things are important. How
- 36:33Speaker 1: do we make sure that these things happen? Righty, Heather, right,
- 36:37Speaker 1: and you gotta talk.
- 36:38Speaker 3: It's got to be talked about.
- 36:40Speaker 4: I mean, it's you know, but I do I see
- 36:45Speaker 4: more wellness programs, more wellness benefits that are being offered
- 36:51Speaker 4: to even a small employer. So I see that the
- 36:55Speaker 4: business owner has the ability to change the culture. Now
- 36:58Speaker 4: it just becomes just make a decision that you're going
- 37:02Speaker 4: to the.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Right see they can find like you don't have to
- 37:08Speaker 1: do this on your own. There are resources there, it's
- 37:10Speaker 1: just you being intentional about bringing them in. And I
- 37:14Speaker 1: think again, if you're the leader, people look to the leader.
- 37:18Speaker 1: So if you're working long hours, if you're not eating well,
- 37:21Speaker 1: if your body is off, if you're you know, stressed,
- 37:25Speaker 1: your staff members are going to say, well, I guess
- 37:26Speaker 1: that's the way we all should be.
- 37:27Speaker 5: The leaders is showing me the way.
- 37:29Speaker 1: So again, the leader has to prioritize their own health
- 37:33Speaker 1: well being and take care of themselves if they expect that.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I mean again, it's on I'm not saying it's I'm
- 37:39Speaker 1: not justifying. I'm just saying people look to that, and
- 37:41Speaker 1: that's that's how they mimic like, oh, I guess that's
- 37:43Speaker 1: how we're supposed to behave.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Right, Well we do we do what we we do
- 37:47Speaker 2: what we see how well we're told?
- 37:49Speaker 5: Mm hmm, yeah, you know.
- 37:51Speaker 3: And I get it from the emplorer side.
- 37:53Speaker 4: I mean I was had a small business and sometimes
- 37:57Speaker 4: to get to a deadline, you got to work the
- 37:59Speaker 4: laid out. But again, people, what people perceived may not
- 38:04Speaker 4: always be the reality.
- 38:07Speaker 3: And what I mean by that is years ago.
- 38:11Speaker 4: I don't know what movie I saw this movie and
- 38:14Speaker 4: the young girl was looking in the window and what
- 38:18Speaker 4: she thought she saw.
- 38:21Speaker 3: What she thought she saw, and.
- 38:22Speaker 4: I don't remember the movie was different from the reality
- 38:26Speaker 4: she looked at her and when she found when she
- 38:29Speaker 4: found out the truth. Even when I saw that that image,
- 38:33Speaker 4: I thought, oh, and then when I realized, I'm like,
- 38:36Speaker 4: how quickly did we come to the conclusion negative conclusions?
- 38:41Speaker 4: Just because you see a business owner working, maybe in
- 38:44Speaker 4: the month of December January to make a deadline, doesn't
- 38:48Speaker 4: mean that that's how they you know, that's their life,
- 38:51Speaker 4: and I think we need to put it in perspective.
- 38:53Speaker 4: But the thing is, I don't leave things up to chance,
- 38:57Speaker 4: because the human mind is will always think on negative
- 39:00Speaker 4: note and I think the best way to combat that
- 39:03Speaker 4: is to to communicate and have that, you know, so
- 39:09Speaker 4: you could say.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Look, you know, you know, I'm all about health and wellness.
- 39:12Speaker 4: I know that we have a deadline and we may
- 39:14Speaker 4: have put in a few hours more to be able
- 39:16Speaker 4: to meet this deadline, but let's all focus on staying healthy.
- 39:20Speaker 4: You know.
- 39:20Speaker 3: There has to be a conversation.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Around well in deadlines. There are a lot of extra
- 39:25Speaker 2: deadlines during the holiday season and the year and the
- 39:29Speaker 2: year first year.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that would be I'm I'm thinking Heather,
- 39:36Speaker 1: because there's a lot more we can go in here.
- 39:38Speaker 1: But I think that would be a whole nother episode.
- 39:40Speaker 1: I would like to talk with because Stacey about planning deadlines.
- 39:44Speaker 1: How do like you just said, Stacy, like, how do
- 39:46Speaker 1: we do this in a healthy way? That's outside of
- 39:48Speaker 1: the holiday season, that's just in general, right, how do
- 39:51Speaker 1: we deal with with deadlines, burnout, trying to get the
- 39:54Speaker 1: things done? How is that achieved? And how do we
- 39:56Speaker 1: do that in a healthy way. I would love to
- 39:58Speaker 1: have another whole episode that If you're both up.
- 40:00Speaker 3: For that, sure, I would love to do that.
- 40:03Speaker 5: Let's go for it.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Talk.
- 40:08Speaker 1: It's just amplified with the holidays, right, But but this
- 40:11Speaker 1: is a this is a challenge we face, you know,
- 40:13Speaker 1: depending on what your what time of year, if you're
- 40:15Speaker 1: if you're a tax person CPA. Well that's that's you know,
- 40:18Speaker 1: the different types of seasons right where you're crunched and
- 40:20Speaker 1: you have to get things done. So I think that
- 40:22Speaker 1: would be another great topic about health and well being,
- 40:25Speaker 1: planning for your potential burnout, you know, deliverables and doing
- 40:30Speaker 1: it in a healthy way. I mean, the holidays just
- 40:32Speaker 1: adds a whole nother layer in there because we have
- 40:34Speaker 1: more dates, more things I got to get done right right.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Well, and in truth, David, it actually, depending on your
- 40:42Speaker 2: past experience, that's more than a layer. It adds two, three, four,
- 40:47Speaker 2: five layers to it, right right, you know. And and
- 40:51Speaker 2: the reality is all the things that you're doing all
- 40:55Speaker 2: year long still need to be done right, all these
- 40:59Speaker 2: things right.
- 41:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Absolutely, as we're getting close to the end of the
- 41:05Speaker 1: episode here, because I think we've talked about some really
- 41:07Speaker 1: good things, just getting people number one conscientious of the strain.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Like you just said, Heather, there's multiple layers, so if
- 41:13Speaker 1: you're not thinking about them, you better start thinking about
- 41:16Speaker 1: them now as we're going into the end of the year.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Be prepared and not cut unaware. And I think you
- 41:22Speaker 1: know what I heard you say, Stacy is it's both.
- 41:24Speaker 1: It's a two way street. It's the employer, but it's
- 41:26Speaker 1: also you, the employee or leader. You have to take
- 41:29Speaker 1: ownership up yourself and your responsibility. You know, it's a
- 41:33Speaker 1: two way street. But I'll come to you Heather first,
- 41:36Speaker 1: because I want to get like kind of key takeaways
- 41:38Speaker 1: and things that you want to leave listeners on the
- 41:40Speaker 1: podcast to hear from you as to what really if
- 41:43Speaker 1: you know parting words you want to want to share
- 41:46Speaker 1: with the listeners today.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I think the biggest thing is I'm stealing a little
- 41:53Speaker 2: bit from Stacy here, but I think the biggest thing
- 41:56Speaker 2: is is you need to make a plan, You need
- 42:01Speaker 2: to be aware. You talked about intention, David. I think
- 42:04Speaker 2: those really really are high points of the discussion today
- 42:09Speaker 2: because and the other thing is that wellness is far
- 42:12Speaker 2: more than what we're eating. It's our environment, it's how
- 42:17Speaker 2: we interact with others, it's past trauma that we're coping with,
- 42:21Speaker 2: it's deaf it's stress, it's all those things. And so
- 42:28Speaker 2: knowing that the holidays have those additional layers, what is
- 42:32Speaker 2: not prudent to take extra steps and extra precautions, be
- 42:38Speaker 2: conscious about what you're walking into, like you said, David,
- 42:42Speaker 2: rather than just letting it fall to crap at the end.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Some people thrive in that environment. I'm not one of them.
- 42:48Speaker 2: There are a lot of people who do not, and
- 42:51Speaker 2: a lot of people feel hopeless by the end of
- 42:53Speaker 2: the holiday season. And that's not something we want. And
- 42:56Speaker 2: I think we can't take other people's health into our
- 43:01Speaker 2: own hands. Their wellness practices into our own hands. Yes,
- 43:05Speaker 2: they look to the leadership, but most importantly is that
- 43:09Speaker 2: we cultivate a healthy work environment, and then the healthy
- 43:13Speaker 2: work environment, we allow others to work and cultivate that
- 43:18Speaker 2: healthy work environment even further. Right, Yes, that's what I'm
- 43:22Speaker 2: going to leave you with.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Yes, while you say that, and I'm gonna get your
- 43:25Speaker 1: thank fud the thoughts Stacey. One of the episodes we
- 43:29Speaker 1: did last year, and this is I think a great
- 43:31Speaker 1: resource because what you're talking about, Heather, is called the
- 43:33Speaker 1: Peace Index Assessment, which anybody that's listening that wants to
- 43:36Speaker 1: do this, it's going through and evaluating, like you said,
- 43:39Speaker 1: your purpose, your place, the.
- 43:41Speaker 5: People in your life, your physical well being.
- 43:44Speaker 1: It's a very quick, easy, free assessment that I offer
- 43:46Speaker 1: if anyone's interested they want to take that, just to
- 43:49Speaker 1: give you a sense of where I'm at today and
- 43:50Speaker 1: that could change tomorrow, the next week. And so we
- 43:54Speaker 1: remember stay were on I believe you're on that podcast
- 43:56Speaker 1: we were talking about like where do you find your piece?
- 43:59Speaker 1: And so that last year kind of in a similar
- 44:02Speaker 1: vein a little different but you guys can go back
- 44:04Speaker 1: and listen to that on the Business Roundtable podcast. Just
- 44:06Speaker 1: go back to look a piece index assessment and I'm
- 44:10Speaker 1: happy to share that with you. So Stacey, final thoughts
- 44:13Speaker 1: takeaways in the days of that, we need.
- 44:15Speaker 4: To understand that holiday stress comes from multiple angles.
- 44:18Speaker 3: It can be you.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Know, your own personal expectations, it could be social expectations,
- 44:23Speaker 4: and then the pressure that you have on your job
- 44:26Speaker 4: and that you have to take ownership of your own wellbeing,
- 44:31Speaker 4: and so it starts with you being intentional with your
- 44:34Speaker 4: own health. On that note, understand that as an employer
- 44:38Speaker 4: or as a business owner, that you can also you're
- 44:42Speaker 4: also responsible for the culture that is created within your
- 44:45Speaker 4: own company, and that a lot of times employers who
- 44:49Speaker 4: allow the employees to create the culture face the issue
- 44:53Speaker 4: of having that backfire when they have you know, unhealthy mentally, physically, spiritual, spiritual,
- 45:00Speaker 4: unhealthy employees because it's going to affect the business crosswise.
- 45:03Speaker 4: And I know that that's a whole nother discussion, but
- 45:07Speaker 4: just know that the employer, as a business owner, you
- 45:09Speaker 4: do have some influence within the company itself, not just
- 45:18Speaker 4: pre planning planning the whole year, but also planning during
- 45:21Speaker 4: the holiday season. But ultimately it comes down to you,
- 45:24Speaker 4: the individual, need to decide that you're going to take
- 45:27Speaker 4: charge of your health and and you know, if you're
- 45:30Speaker 4: going to pull a couple of people up and to
- 45:31Speaker 4: be healthy, bring.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Them with you.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Uh go, go and job. Don't go to the holiday party.
- 45:38Speaker 5: Yeah, say no to that.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Then create your own so.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Teeny glass full of water and it is.
- 45:53Speaker 1: It's been a blast having you both back. I see
- 45:56Speaker 1: future episodes in our you know, coming up with both
- 45:59Speaker 1: of you. Uh, this has been so fun. Thank you
- 46:02Speaker 1: Heather and Stacy for being back on the podcast and
- 46:05Speaker 1: just sharing your insights on how it could be healthy,
- 46:08Speaker 1: healthier and being more intentional about taking care of ourselves
- 46:11Speaker 1: as we go into this holiday season and uh, you know,
- 46:15Speaker 1: live live, live a life.
- 46:17Speaker 5: Well yeah amen, thank you all right, thank you brother
- 46:21Speaker 5: so much, Thanks.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Everybody, Thank you, pleasure, thank you.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Stacy is always wonderful hearing you and look for upcoming.
- 46:33Speaker 5: Thank you. Thank you,
