- 0:22This is Kevin David, the sports perrit here on one of five point nine
- 0:26and on today show. We've got some hockey, some rugby, We've got
- 0:33folks on Saints basketball, we've got a report on the pool Hill cross country
- 0:38run and an update on the South kN Harrier's Couch to five K. In
- 0:47the studio, we were supposed to be joined by two guests, but unfortunately
- 0:51one I had a phone call last night. One couldn't make it, so
- 0:54we understand that. So that was Ruth from Hot Pod Yoga, but she's
- 0:59very keen to come in another time. So in the first hour we would
- 1:04be chatting with Adye Dawks, who's the number one PA man at Folkston in
- 1:08Victor, and he'd be telling us all about what it's like to volunteer down
- 1:15at Folkson in Victor, and be telling us about the folks and in Victor
- 1:19Radio and a new set of podcasts that's coming up. In the meantime,
- 1:25we got a little bit of music from the Bellamie Brothers and some local music
- 1:29with Katie Bradley one oh five point nine Academy a Fair, the Folkston and
- 1:34Hyde Sports podcast, every local sport across the district, are Okayte Bradley,
- 1:51they're rocking away. Let the good times roll. What a great track that
- 1:53was. Now we're joined in the studio by the folks and in Victor PA
- 1:57man Adie doalks. Hello, aady, how are you? I'm not too
- 2:00bad to put a head cold, but good afternoon and welcome. Yeah,
- 2:04well lovely. Now we've spoken to you before on the phone and a socially
- 2:09distanced interview, but I'm really glad that you've actually managed to get into the
- 2:14studio. So tell us a bit about your PA background and how you got
- 2:19the job, bearing in mind that there are a lot of volunteers up there
- 2:22and you are a volunteers. Yes, I've been volunteering all since, all
- 2:27the way back about twenty and fourteen. I come back from Oxford. I
- 2:31was there for twenty years and come back here and obviously we wanted to watch
- 2:35my hometown team like I used to. Watched it for about a season and
- 2:38then I got in. I asked if anybody wanted to anything they had to
- 2:46help. I wanted to throw my hat into the ring. And then Terry,
- 2:50who used to do the PA box, was stepping down to watch the
- 2:54games. More than do the PA. He stepped down and I said,
- 2:59oh. Spoke to Clive Arnold, who was the then Supporters Club chairman,
- 3:04said I, you know, I wouldn't mind doing the PAM. I do
- 3:07a disco anyway, so I know roughly what sort of records and music to
- 3:12play before kickoff, and he was delighted for me to come forward and fill
- 3:16Terry's boots so to speak. Oh good. Yeah, so it's quite quite
- 3:21a big boost to feel actually, because Terry was a legend down there,
- 3:24he'd been there a number of years. But so yeah, everything's move on.
- 3:29So the transition wasn't too great for you then, No, not really,
- 3:32miss I'm used to talking with them in front of a mic and playing
- 3:37music. So and that was easy enough to do during you know, before
- 3:39the matches. That sounds easy enough, But the ninety minutes that's a little
- 3:45bit of a bit of a different Kettler fish, isn't it. What goes
- 3:46on in the ninety minutes? Well, leading up to the game, obviously
- 3:52we have the team MWS that comes through, so we have to wait until
- 3:54we've got that. Then we go through the teams, let the spects know
- 4:00who's playing, who's not playing, etc. Then we play the walkout song,
- 4:05which at the moment is liquid data, and then basically we have to
- 4:10keep our eyes on the game, knowing the substitutions, how many minutes are
- 4:15left, if there's a goal scored, that we have to make sure that
- 4:18we get the right goal scorer, which we don't always do, and then
- 4:25just relay the messaging on to these spectators. Really all right, and you're
- 4:30right actually, because it must throw a different light on the game rather than
- 4:32being a spectator. And we've had this conversation before, but it's I always
- 4:36think it's like being a photographer. You've got kind of you're focusing on the
- 4:40game, but you're not on the game. You know, when you get
- 4:42home you sort of shout your head off because they scored a goal. Yeah,
- 4:46I mean you have to obviously be a little bit of a professional.
- 4:49For instance, when the other teams score, you have to make you know,
- 4:54tell them who scored and the score is. And it's really sometimes it
- 5:00can be a bit. Now. I've looked at some of those team sheets
- 5:02and when you announced the teams, you get a team from South London and
- 5:08they're a bit some of them a bit tongue twisters, aren't they some of
- 5:10them? Yes, I dread it when we played teams like Carrying Gay Barrel
- 5:15or Renfield. They've got some choice names. Yeah. But you've got a
- 5:20new lad to come and joined you on the team just recently, haven't you.
- 5:24Yeah, young Charlie, he's he come along. I've not been very
- 5:29well and I needed somebody to fill my boots while I was in hospital.
- 5:32And he's done a fantastic job with me. He taken over the reins as
- 5:38well from doing the radio that we do. And yeah, he's coming and
- 5:44he's he's filled my boots quite quite nicely. Well, I've not been there.
- 5:47He's a good attachment to the team actually, I mean at this moment
- 5:50in time, I must have met that I will step in if you're short.
- 5:54But he's taken a lot of pressure off me actually, because for those
- 5:58of you that listening, I do go down to folks in Victor and spend
- 6:00a lot of time in the PA box. And it's always best to have
- 6:03two sets of eyes, isn't it. Definitely definitely, because we've often said
- 6:09oh, the Smith School with the girl and I say no, no,
- 6:11it was Jackson. And then then there's this thing called the Football League web
- 6:15pages because somebody with bearing in mind that we are at one end of the
- 6:18ground and on a Tuesday evening when you're playing under lights and someone scores up
- 6:23at the other end, it is a bit of a job to see it.
- 6:25It is. Yes, So I hope the new directors are out there
- 6:29listening because we want a really nice, warm, insulating questbooks in the middle
- 6:33of the halfway line up. That would be lovely. Yeah, So we're
- 6:39going to talk about it later. But you did mention about your commentaries,
- 6:43so we talk about that later. And so I mean, what else do
- 6:47you do for the club as a volunteer. We well, we personally I
- 6:54do the match commentary for folks in Victor folks in Victor Radio, which we
- 7:00do at the moment. We just cover the away games and we have listeners
- 7:03all over the over in the world, to be honest. We have the
- 7:05people in Norway, We've got a supporters Club branch out there they listening.
- 7:12We've got people from Malta, South Africa and New Zealand that tune in regularly
- 7:16to the show. Amazing, and you know that's great. I mean the
- 7:20person from Malta actually was in folks And not so long ago, and he
- 7:26came into the PA box and introduced himself and thanked us for doing the commentary
- 7:31and him being able to keep up with what's happening for his local team.
- 7:35Actually, some of those countries you mentioned it must be a bit tough because
- 7:38the time zone, especially New Zealand, what have you. In South Africa.
- 7:44Never think of that, having to set your alarm in the middle to
- 7:46listen to folks in Victor. Oh, that's great. Yeah, So what
- 7:51else do you do for the club? What else I do? I run
- 7:56a bing go for them as well. We do that of rates, funds
- 8:00for the supporters Club initially for and then it obviously goes to the club eventually
- 8:05when they they require money for something, and the Supporters Club then sponsor it
- 8:11or just pay for whatever they need. What else do I do anything?
- 8:16They really want me to? Really? Right? Okay, we'll tell you
- 8:20what because you're having to think there, we're gonna what we're gonna do.
- 8:22We're gonna play a bit of music and we're going to come back. But
- 8:24I think you might like this one. Ad specials there in a ghost town,
- 8:48now, Adrian, that's a bit of a special song for you,
- 8:50isn't it? Oh? It certainly is. Yeah. I love the special
- 8:52my favorite band, and but sadly we lost one of them recently, didn't
- 8:58we. There might have been a while going now, Yeah. Yeah,
- 9:01it was almost a year to the day when Terry Hall unfortunately passed away with
- 9:05pantrack pantry attic cancer. Unfortunately it's no longer with us. Yeah, okay,
- 9:11And do you think that's the Specials? Have they folded or are they
- 9:16just gone into doing other stuff? I do. I know you love your
- 9:22reggae and your scar but there's nowadays not just for that genre of music.
- 9:26But there are so many tribute bands out there, aren't they? And I
- 9:30must admit they are good quality a lot. There's some fantastic ones out there.
- 9:33The Madness and Specials tribute bands are exceptional, some of them at the
- 9:37moment. This weekend I'm off to Coventry, home of Two Toned, and
- 9:43they've got a dance Craze tribute weekend starting tomorrow and then Saturday, where the
- 9:52tribute bands of the Specials and Madness and Yeah, home of two Tone.
- 9:58Roddy Radiation of the Specials lead guitarist is also performing, So there'll be a
- 10:03few a few two tone heroes of mine there this weekend, which I'm looking
- 10:07forward to. Good. On that note, you're heavily involved with the Scarborough
- 10:11Festival, aren't you. Yes, I am in Dad one of the organizers
- 10:16there with John Simms who organizes it, and Amanda Murphy. We we're all
- 10:22dedicated to scar music and putting on the weekend in September for all of you
- 10:28to come down and listen to some decent scar music and reggae etc. And
- 10:35does that a tract? We'll have a way that people travel to come down
- 10:39to you all over We've got people from up North as well Scotland. They
- 10:45come from all over the country, which is great. We try to put
- 10:48on a decent artist each year. But this year we've got Dandy Livingston,
- 10:54the old Trojan Warhorse so to speak. He's joining us from Jamaica. He's
- 11:03flying over especially really for that. Yeah, Oh that's great? Is that?
- 11:07Is that? Does that sort of thing happen very often in down at
- 11:11Scarborough? You know? Yeah? I mean we've had did we have?
- 11:15I can't remember. We flew somebody else over a couple of years ago.
- 11:18I can't remember. That the three tenors, we've had them here and we
- 11:22flew them over. Daddy Livingston was supposed to be coming during COVID, but
- 11:28obviously that never happened because he wasn't able to fly. So this year is
- 11:31the first year has been able to join us. So we're really looking forward
- 11:35to that. So just remind us when is that. That's the second week
- 11:39end in September, which I believe is the thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth.
- 11:43Okay, that's right, yeah, So okay, well it's a long way
- 11:46off, so I'm sure we've been mentioning that between now and then. Stick
- 11:50him with the music theme and bingo if you like, And we spoke about
- 11:54your volunteer and for the folks in Victor Supporters Club, which a bingo is
- 12:01bingo still popular. It is very popular. And it's not just an old
- 12:05people's you know, people suggest seem to think old people go to bingo.
- 12:11It's not like that. The majority now is under forty undred thirties, so
- 12:16you know it is not just old and you know it's not just bingo in
- 12:22numbers. We do bingo with music as well. Well, that's what I
- 12:24picked up on that one explain to me, what is it like what I've
- 12:28seen advertised rock and roll bingo? Is it like that? Exactly the same?
- 12:33Yes? So what is what is rock and roll bingo? Then to
- 12:37well, basically it's exactly the same as bingo, but you just replace the
- 12:39numbers with records music and then you have to guess the title and the artist.
- 12:50It's all done on a bit of paper. So for instance, if
- 12:52you've got like you just played specials there ghost Town, if you've got that
- 12:56on your piece of paper, you mark that off and then you if you've
- 13:01got a line, the shout four corners, you give a shell and if
- 13:03you give a full house, you shout and then you win a decent prize.
- 13:07Yeah. Good. So is that down to you to organize and you
- 13:13know, pick songs and stuff like that. Yes, you can do it
- 13:16that way, yeah, sort of. Mostly you buy a kit and you
- 13:20can they send you a CD with it, and then you've got the cards
- 13:24et cetera, which obviously replaces the bingo books and you just say you just
- 13:28mark it off and it's it's very easy and quite enjoyable. Once the ladies
- 13:33have had a one or two percos they all sing along. It's quite good,
- 13:37good evening. We've got one coming up on the tenth of February.
- 13:41Tenth of February, that's not too far away. So how do people find
- 13:46out about that? They can do that on our Folks in Victor Bingo site.
- 13:52You can look through on there and then that actual one is being done
- 13:54at Saint Joseph's Hall, Churchill in Narrabeen Road. That's where the venue is.
- 14:01Unfortunately, we couldn't have the folks and bar at the time that dug
- 14:03out because there is an alternative thing on that night. So unfortunately we couldn't
- 14:09have the venue, so we've had to move it to say Saint Joseph's Church
- 14:13Hall in Narrabin Road. Right now, I must just pick up on this
- 14:18because I think bingo is going to be very special in your memories in the
- 14:22future. Because I saw a little clip of you game there on one knee
- 14:28bingo session. What was that all about? There? Well, I met
- 14:31my fiance through the bingo. She started to come and we obviously we spoke,
- 14:37and then we went out for a drink and went out for a couple
- 14:41of meals, and we started going out with each other and it got to
- 14:46the Christmas bingo, and I decided to propose to her. We had a
- 14:52music bingo round, and I must admit I fixed the game so there would
- 14:56only be one winner, which was and I told her at the start if
- 15:05she was to win the bingo, we had a box A, B or
- 15:09C, and inside the box would be a mystery prize. And I told
- 15:13her to pick box A if she won, knowing full well that she would
- 15:16win this particular game, and I told all the people there beforehand. When
- 15:20she wasn't there, so she picked box eight, expecting to get maybe a
- 15:24cash prize or a decent prize, and when lo and behold, she opened
- 15:28it up and inside was our love Heart with marry Me on it. Oh
- 15:33yeah yeah. And she opened that, looked at it and then thought what's
- 15:41this sort of thing? And then I popped the ring out and got down
- 15:43on one of the two half song it must be Love, and proposed to
- 15:48her. Did you manage to get up again? Only just? Well?
- 15:54I must have been that. We went to your engagement party on Saturday and
- 15:56there was a great crowd there and it was lovely see everyone to join herself
- 16:00and your fiance Sam looks so happy, so Yeah, she's made me very
- 16:04happy as well, especially after what we've been through. Better. Mean,
- 16:10it's no secret you've you've been through a really tough time. You've thought cancer
- 16:12and you've come out the other end. So for you, your life's really
- 16:15changing, isn't it It is. I mean obviously if you've had cancer,
- 16:21or you know somebody that's had cancer, you know how it impacts on your
- 16:23life, and you do have different aspects on life once you've had that,
- 16:27and you know you want to live each day as it is your last because
- 16:33you might not wake up tomorrow. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you must
- 16:36learn a lot a lot of lessons learned there. Okay, let's switch it
- 16:38back to the football now. So folcusing in Victor Supporters Club and PA,
- 16:45So are you short of volunteers down there? Yes, we're always sure.
- 16:49We can always do with a couple more people. Some of us aren't as
- 16:53young as what we used to be, so we you know, we we
- 16:56do need some fresh new blood. It doesn't matter how hard you are,
- 17:00but there's always something to do at the club. We are, as you
- 17:03said, volunteers. We give our time. The club would like to pay
- 17:07us, but most of us just saying you know, no, we do
- 17:10it for the love of the club. And yeah, I mean, especially
- 17:14on match day, there's always something to do, and there's always so how
- 17:18can people what do they do? Do they just come down a match day
- 17:22and make themselves known. Yeah, I mean you can come into the PA
- 17:23box and I can put you in the right direction. John Law who's normally
- 17:29there on a match day. He organizes the away travel for the supporters club
- 17:33and he does a lot of work. Won't thank me for saying it,
- 17:37but you know on a match day he's there cleaning the pigeon muck off of
- 17:44these seats and yeah, putting the bins out, emptying the bins at the
- 17:48end. You know, as I say, there's always something to do,
- 17:51and he's him and his crew just keep the update of the ground. But
- 17:56obviously more people that help the better. Okay, brilliant. It's been great
- 18:00to get you, actually get you in the studio. As I say,
- 18:03in the past, we spoke on the phone and we did a socially distanced
- 18:07interview and it's really nice for you to come in and tell a little bit
- 18:11about the club and just what the club needs people like like yourself and like
- 18:15John Laws and we would really love to see plenty more people down there.
- 18:19It would be nice. Okay, Adrian, all the best, thank you
- 18:22very much, You're welcome. Thank you, Caddie Stowns and Nights on Broadway.
- 18:33Okay, some a bit of football news now focused in Victor before Saturday's
- 18:37kickoff, had on paper a really tough task on their away fixture against Enfield
- 18:42are in the playoff places, but as Brian Clough once said, you don't
- 18:47play the game on paper, you play it on grass and the end result
- 18:49was an excellent too nil victory, pushing them up the table. So have
- 18:55a little listener now because our men on spot we mentioned him earlier, Charlie
- 18:57Charlie Prescott, who's an addition to the PA team. He was at the
- 19:00game, he did the commentary, the waiting away game commentary and he sent
- 19:06us in this report you joined me at the Q two stadium where folks in
- 19:10it to travel to take on Enfield Town in an issue in Premier Division fixture
- 19:14folks. That made just one change coming into this game. With Jordan and
- 19:15Babio dropping to the bench, Jason Fredno came in for his first start in
- 19:19Black and Umber. Enfield started the brighter the two teams and as an early
- 19:23ball whipped him from the right hand side, one of the Enfield Town center
- 19:26halfs got up high in headed goalwards and Joe Carmen was scrambling backwards, but
- 19:30he got a big claw out to his right hand side to tip it round
- 19:33the post and folks And survives an early scare and it was still Neil Neil
- 19:37in the game and only took folks In thirteen minutes to get going. It
- 19:41was a long ball forward from the back. Target man Tom Derry got it
- 19:44down onto his right foot and slotted calmly into the right hand corner and folks
- 19:48And the Victors took a shot lead at the q E two stadium and it
- 19:51was Folksing Vic to one Enfield Town nil on the thirteenth minute. It took
- 19:55just ten more minutes for Folksing to double their advantage. Derry again was out
- 19:59on the right hand side looking to whip the ball in towards the penalty area,
- 20:02but it was a good block at their post. Black block felt just
- 20:03as far as Addie Cole, who had some space inside the penalty aer he
- 20:07drove towards the byline cut it back and none other than Scott hard was there
- 20:10at the fire poster turned it in. He took a whack off the posts
- 20:12for his troubles, but he didn't care. It was folksing it to two
- 20:15Enfield Town. Nil Folkson had to survive a quick reply from Enfield Town.
- 20:21There's another ball in off a corner from that right hand side and Nollie Knight
- 20:23peeled away at the fire posts and he had the whole goal to waiyhim out.
- 20:26Joe Coleman was stuck in no man's land and he put it wide at
- 20:30the right hand post, so Folks and survived another scare and they're headed in
- 20:33at halftime too. Nell up Enfield throw everything at them. In the second
- 20:37half. Joe Payne kept coming forward with a host of long froes from either
- 20:41side, but it was well marshaled by Jake Goodman, Callum Davis and Jason
- 20:45Frederner. Folks instead had an outlet with Derry and Smith upfront and they caused
- 20:48problems steal from Field Town, with Joe Payne, Scott Thomas and Hers and
- 20:52Alvez all on bookings for bringing them, foxing the men down folksing them to
- 20:56survive for the rest of the second half, with Jason Fredern there picking up
- 21:00folks of vic to radios. Man of the Match six hundred and twenty eight
- 21:03came out at the Queensenlizabeth Stadium. That's where I'm reporting from. It was
- 21:06me Charlie Prescott from the QUT Stadium where the final score is nfil Town New
- 21:11Folks in Victor two. Well, a big thank you there, Charlie.
- 21:12That's a great report and it's nice to have out on the spot reporters.
- 21:17Now this is working out really well now because you know we're trying to build
- 21:21up an entourage of reporters to bring any sport. Really they can send us
- 21:26in a voicemail and we'll push it out anyway. That game that pushed in
- 21:29Victor up into sixteenth place, three places and seven points above the relegation zone.
- 21:34Tuesday evening's game home to Craig Wanderers was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
- 21:38So this Saturday is an away game to the only team that play in
- 21:42Whiteheart Lane, that's harringay Burrough. Did you know that Totham Hotspurs postal address
- 21:48for their ground is actually in high Road, Tottenham so there's a little claim
- 21:52to fame there for Harringey Burrough. Now the teams have met twice before,
- 21:56and not Tottenham, that's Harringey. They've met twice before, once in the
- 22:00FA Trophy where Harringay came out on top in the penalty shootout after two all
- 22:04in ninety minutes, then one all in the league back in November. Harringay
- 22:10are currently in that relegation zone in twentieth place out of twenty two, so
- 22:14Victor will definitely be looking for three points now high toown. Last Saturday they
- 22:19faced the biggest game of the season when they welcomed Chorley from the National League
- 22:23North to Reachfield's for the fourth Round Trophy. So let's listen to this man
- 22:29on the spot there. This is Tom Illerby. It finished Hidetown one surely
- 22:33too in the last thirty two stage of the FA Trophy at Reachfield Stadium on
- 22:37Saturday, bringing a historic FA Trophy run to an end in front of seven
- 22:41hundred and thirty fans. The atmosphere is electric in the first half was extremely
- 22:47even hide matches. Strike first, Aaron Barnes sent a ball to the near
- 22:51post to Jake Embury, who slotted it into the far corner, much to
- 22:53the light for the Hive fans. National League's North side Chorley managed a level
- 22:57of scores on the stroke of halftime when Jack Hazlehurst got himself into a good
- 23:02position and placed his shot perfectly. Hithkeeper Steve Phillips managed to get a hand
- 23:07to it, but there was nothing he could do to stop his equalizer.
- 23:10The second half began in a similar fashion to the first, with both teams
- 23:12putting up a strong fight. It was surely who managed to take the lead
- 23:17in the second half on seventy three minutes as a free kick was sent into
- 23:19a box and was nodded in by Jack Sampson past the blindsided Steve Phillips.
- 23:25Hythe continued to fight for their lives in the final stage of the game,
- 23:27but they were unable to create any cutting head chances to make it to too
- 23:32The full time whistle blue to mark the end of an FA Trophy run which
- 23:34saw Hive beat three teams from leagues above them, making history and giving their
- 23:38fans plenty to cheer about. Big thanks to you there, Tom and for
- 23:42that high I report he was their pitch side. Tuesday evening away game against
- 23:47Lancing in front of just one hundred and eighty five fanes saw hythe go to
- 23:51kneel down within fifty five minutes. They managed to pull one back in the
- 23:55fifty eighth minute, but lost the game by two goals to one. And
- 23:57on Saturday it's a home fixture against Earth and Bilverdire with a three pm clickoff.
- 24:03But please everybody, if you're go into any fixture, I can't emphasize
- 24:06this enough with the way the weather's going, and please check social media before
- 24:08you sit out. Now, Hawkinstown they had a game on Saturday, so
- 24:14sit back and listen to this report from Bradley Kilgeriff. Hawkins Town Football Club
- 24:19looked to continue their fine form when we traveled to Stansfeld, Oxford and Bermsey
- 24:23Saturday. The Hawks looked a bit shaky for the first five minutes and seemed
- 24:27to struggle to organize themselves. Thankfully, this was short lived and we finally
- 24:32started to get our feet into the game. Max Cooper managed to find the
- 24:34goal for the Hawks seven minutes into the first half. This was also Cooper's
- 24:38first start for the club. The boys continued to create opportunities and again in
- 24:42the twenty fourth minute, Captain Luke Greeve netted the second goal off the afternoon.
- 24:48Stansfeld managed a few opportunities, however really didn't test our keeper and at
- 24:52halftime the Hawks found himself in a two nail lead. A perfect start into
- 24:56the second half saw Tyler Clements give us free goal lead and then two minutes
- 25:00later Stansfeld was a ward of the penalty they converted to make the score free
- 25:06one. Probably the highlight of the game. On the seventy fifth minute,
- 25:10Jack Taylor found himself one on one with the keeper and could have easily converted.
- 25:15However, unselfishly set up Leadahara, who was unmarked in the box,
- 25:18to make the score lone four to one, a great display of teamwork.
- 25:22Hawkins continued to have chances, however, it was Stansfeld who scored again in
- 25:26the ninety third minute to make it four two due to lapp of concentration from
- 25:30the midfield. However, this wrapped the pot game up for the boys and
- 25:33we took the three points. Man of the Match was awarded to Carson phil
- 25:36Pott, who was quality in the middle of the park today, got and
- 25:38assist and got back when needed. The Hawks face i'd hear at home Saturday
- 25:44for a two pm kickoff at Hawkings Pavilion. Any sport would be welcome and
- 25:48please do check out our social media channels for further information up the Hawks.
- 25:52Well, the big thank you to Bradley there for that great report to keep
- 25:55the coming in. Bread and Saturday's opponent's Idle Hill are fourth in the table
- 26:00whereas Hawkins are on our joint top so it looks to be a pretty tough
- 26:03game now. Lastly, bit of football news. On Sunday the folks in
- 26:07the Victor Disability team traveled to Faversham to play in a Kent Disability Football League
- 26:11tournament. Now they have two sides, a Premiership side and a Championship side.
- 26:17The Premiership side were a man sure actually and played five against six,
- 26:21losing one nil to three sides. They lost one nil to Southeast Goals Maidstone
- 26:26and Chatham and Drew Neil Neil with King's Hill. Man of the match for
- 26:30the Premiership side was Jared Prescott, who I do believe is Charlie's brother.
- 26:34The Championship Drew Neil Neil with Maidstone Silver lost one nil to Charlton. Drew
- 26:41Neil Neil with Southeast goals and lost one nil to Maidstone Copper, so not
- 26:45many goals about them during the day, but man of the match and the
- 26:48championship team went to Steve Lake. Manager Garret Wilson's ere he couldn't knock the
- 26:53lads despite not winning any games, which is a bit unusual. Normally they
- 26:56go to Faversham and they have a really good record, so perhaps they're just
- 27:02not used to playing with each other because of the shuffle round that they had
- 27:06to do. Their next fixture is an eleven a side game away at walter
- 27:10Mabbe. A win could see them top of the table. Okay, that's
- 27:14enough football nown worn out listening to all worlds reports. Let's have a little
- 27:18bit of music now from the Rhythmics. Would I lie to you Eurhythmics?
- 27:27There? Would I lie to you? Time of a bit of rugby news
- 27:32now from the folks and Rugby Club. The first fifteen had an excellent forty
- 27:36five points to fifteen away victory against Medway, keeping them top of the table
- 27:41three points ahead of seven Oaks, who have a game in hand. This
- 27:44weekend is a home game against westcom Park who are currently in fourth spot.
- 27:48The Seconds narrowly lost home to than It Wonderers by nineteen points to seventeen,
- 27:52putting them in the fourth spot out of ten teams. This week they are
- 27:56a way to Canterbury Deacons who are eighth. The third team suffer the thirty
- 28:00six points to five defeat against New ash Green, seeing them in ninth place
- 28:03out of ten teams. That's not so good. And on Saturday it's home
- 28:07to Sheppey who are third. Now the only game that I have to mention
- 28:14is that the Ladies. The ladies don't play very often, but they've got
- 28:15a fixture away on Sunday. They are a way to Maystone. That's a
- 28:19two o'clock kickoff, so good up to the ladies there now. On Sunday
- 28:22morning, I was returning back from the pool Hill cross country race which I
- 28:27attended in Sandlin. I'll tell you a bit more about that later on in
- 28:30the show. When I came past the folks in Rugby Club, I came
- 28:33up I think they called it black House Hill and as you come up it
- 28:37was just to seem to be a hive of activity over on the right there
- 28:41the two pitches across the road. It seemed that the minis, the six,
- 28:45seven, eight and eleven year olds were hosting Canterbury for training and Canterbury
- 28:49always come over mob handed. The under ten's had a triangular fixture against Dover
- 28:53and Deal, the under twelves had a Kent Cup game, and the under
- 28:57nines, thirteen's and fifteen he's had training. The place was absolutely mobbed.
- 29:03I was a bit gutted really because I couldn't pop in there and I had
- 29:06another commitment. So I want to big thank you, big the shout out
- 29:10to Ollie Smith there, who's part of the team up there that looks after
- 29:12the youngsters for let them let me know about that. And so parents,
- 29:17if you've got any youngsters the fancy a game of rugby and want to try,
- 29:21please just go to the rugby club or their Facebook chide page and drop
- 29:23a message. Olli Smith or anyone else will pick it up. Coming up.
- 29:29Now we've got Oh, it's a great I haven't don this one for
- 29:32ages. Don't play your rock and roll for me by Smoky. You know,
- 29:41I haven't heard that track for a long long time. It's a as
- 29:45Adrian said this to here, and they don't make them like that anymore.
- 29:48Okay, a little bit of a netball news now. This came in this
- 29:52morning actually because the Netball League play on a Wednesday night, and a big
- 29:56thanks to Hannah Palmer for sending this in. And I'll just read you out
- 29:59the result as they've come in last night. Well it was very very cold,
- 30:03but the pitches were playable. The Scorpions beat Ice thirty six points to
- 30:07twenty. The Jets beat Vipers thirty two points to eighteen, the Tornadoes beat
- 30:14Black Widows forty one points to eight and Woodpeckers beat Air thirty five points to
- 30:19seventeen. Okay, so taking us up to the news now, we've got
- 30:23a bit of haul and oes private eyes, So don't go away, put
- 30:27your feet up, make a cup of tea, have a little biscuit and
- 30:30I'll see you after the news. The Folkston and Hide Sports podcast every local
- 30:42sport across the district. So welcome back to the second hour of the show.
- 30:55This is Kevin Day on the Folks on a high Sports show and one
- 30:57a high point nine Academy FM. Coming up in this hour, we have
- 31:08got some hockey, some Saints basketball news. We've got a little report on
- 31:18the Paul Hill cross country run and a little update on South Kent Harriers.
- 31:23They started their couch to five k last week. We find out it's week
- 31:30two. Find out see if they've all turned up for the second week.
- 31:41In the meantime, let's listen to the Beatles and day Tripper had a bit
- 31:49of local music from Colleidophone. Glidophone then and what You're made of now.
- 32:10I met the boys from Colidophone back in the day. It was back in
- 32:15the day when, if you like, my running days were over and I
- 32:20took upon myself to have another challenge, and this challenge was to walk.
- 32:24I did a walk. I'm sure I've told you this before, but yeah,
- 32:28but you know what we like to go on about it. I did
- 32:31a walk from London to Brighton, one hundred kilometers sixty two miles, no
- 32:37stop in our hotels or anything, through the day and through the night.
- 32:40And I was I'm sure at the time, myself and Adam Dowling was with
- 32:45academy. Adam is now he's gone to hire things. He's on three counties
- 32:52of Radio Kent in the afternoon, so he's doing really well for himself.
- 32:54Anyway, myself and Adam we put a concert on at the Tower Theater and
- 32:59Adam knew these guys from Collidophone and they came along and did a set and
- 33:02they are absolutely amazing, they really were. And a couple of them came
- 33:06from Maidstone and I became friends with them, and we always at the time,
- 33:12I think Maidstone and Folks them were pretty much in the same league,
- 33:15and there was a couple of games there where they came down and we had
- 33:19a great time. So good luck to you boys from the Colidophone. Nice
- 33:22to hear that you're still making music, all right. So time for some
- 33:25what we've got now some basketball news, folks on Saints basketball teams were busy
- 33:30once again at the weekend. The under eighteen to beat Seven Oaks seventy two
- 33:35points to forty four, placing them second in the league with three games in
- 33:38hand over top teen Graves and Spartans. The under sixteen girls narrowly beat Brentwood
- 33:44Fire by fifty five points to fifty two, and that is absolutely really minimum
- 33:49in the game of basketball, just three points between them anyway, That kept
- 33:52them top of the league at one point clear of South End Scorpions. Now
- 33:55I couldn't find a result for the under twelves, but I can tell you
- 33:59that they are top of their league, whilst the under fourteens are fourth in
- 34:02the table and have two games in hand over top teams Kent Panthers. Now
- 34:07the Saints are holding a February half term camp, which is a nine till
- 34:10three o'clock on Monday the twelfth of February for the under twelves and under fourteenth
- 34:16and Wednesday the fourteenth of February for the under sixteenth and under eighteenth. It's
- 34:22all at the Three Hills, so please go to the Saints a Basketball folks
- 34:24and Facebook page to find out a bit more about it. Okay, coming
- 34:29up now, we've got two classic tracks. You're going to love these.
- 34:31You've got the Suite Playing the Ballroom, Blitz and l John and Kiki D
- 34:36Don't God Break in my Heart you'd be fourty there, I got you,
- 34:52babe. Now our time for a hockey roundup. Last Saturday, the Folks
- 34:58and Optimist fielded NILT twelve teams. As per usual, It's amazing some of
- 35:04it all up. It went like this, played twelve one six drawn,
- 35:07one lost, five goals four, twenty four goals four and twenty two goals
- 35:14against so pretty even Stephen weekend all round, the Men's first beat burnt Ash
- 35:20three to one, keeping them top of the table. The Seconds had a
- 35:22closed victory beat in k Sports three goals to two. The third beat Blackheath
- 35:28Heathens a four nil jack see Grave got one and Sorry See Grove. Jack
- 35:32Ce Grove got one and Freddie Brown got a hat trick. The Fourths lost
- 35:37two to one to seven Oaks, The fifth beat Sutton Valance four to two.
- 35:42The sixth team lost one nil to Old Willis That's the Old Williamsonians to
- 35:45you, and the seventh team had a walkover victory against Grevesham and Welcome.
- 35:51The Ladies First added an excellent three nil win over Matstone, keeping them joint
- 35:54top. The second threw won all with seven Oaks, and the third,
- 35:59fourth and fifth all Saday lost the Saturday another twelve fixtures. The Men's first
- 36:04are away to Herne Bay, the Ladies First are at home to Woking,
- 36:07and the Ladies fifteen, the team I like to keep an eye on,
- 36:10are hoping to bounce back from the last week's defeat when they play Faversham at
- 36:15home. However, they are still top of the table. After an excellent
- 36:17first half of the season, three points clear with a game in hand over
- 36:22Saturday's opponents. You've guessed it, Faversham, so a win would make that
- 36:25gap even wider. And a big thank you to Amy for the Hockey Club
- 36:30for supplying all that information. And it's worth mentioning that it's not all about
- 36:34hockey. The Optimists are support in the Folks and Food Bank throughout January.
- 36:37There'll be a box on the bar on Saturday at the Three Hills for donations.
- 36:43So while un to all the Opts for supporting a great local cause much
- 36:45needy at this time of year. And if you ever boored in wants something
- 36:49to do and you're just watching a bit of sport, perhaps you've never watched
- 36:52hockey before, then go down the Three Hills almost any Saturday because there's bound
- 36:55to be games on. We have twelve teams at least well six of them
- 36:59have got a bit at home, and you can get you in. There's
- 37:01such a friendly bunch down there and you really will have a great time and
- 37:07you can work the beauty of the Three Hills. You can watch the game
- 37:09from the nice warm bar looking out through the window. Okay, so time
- 37:14for a bit of music. Now we've got coming up. We've got Shallama
- 37:16and George Harrison. Well another song Loving for a very very long time,
- 37:39and it's a classic track from the sixties. I reckon it was about the
- 37:44mid sixties and about sixty four sixty five. I remember that as I was
- 37:49growing up. Shows you how old I am. Now, Okay, time
- 37:52for a bit more sporty stuff. Now, Sunday morning, I attended the
- 37:57pool Hill cross country Run. Now, Paul was a focused running club member
- 38:01who sadly passed away in two thousand and four. But the club follow a
- 38:07route that Paul, myself and several running colleagues used to run back in the
- 38:10day. Now, at a certain point in this run, there's a huge,
- 38:15huge farm gate and which Paul, now he wasn't the tallest of chaps,
- 38:21he attempted to climb over, resulting in him falling in off the top
- 38:23of the gate into a big pile of mud. Now this story is told
- 38:28every year for the sake of new runners, because the next runner that followed
- 38:30Paul just clicked on the latch and the gate opened. Calls in absolute ructions
- 38:37of laughter. There's now a couple of memorial stones up there by the gate
- 38:40in his memory, and it really is a good fun event. Now my
- 38:45running days are over, but I must admit that I was really envious of
- 38:49the runners as they came back, big rosy red cheeks, some covered in
- 38:52mud, laughing and joking. It really is something I really really do miss.
- 38:57And Paul's widow, Christine put on a lovely spread of tea cakes and
- 39:00other delights, helped by my partner Sue Elkins. It's a fixture on the
- 39:04calendar which all of the runners look forward to. This year, the number
- 39:07reached about thirty three thirty four, which was really good turnout to be fair,
- 39:12a lot of people still running and a lot of spectators. They're remembering
- 39:15Paul. It was a really good fun morning, so a big thank you
- 39:19to all those who took part. Now southkn Harry has started a couch to
- 39:22five k last week and coach Karen Quinn told me that there was another great
- 39:28turnout for the second week and they've got a few extras, which is good.
- 39:31I won't be called in on Karen every week, but I just wanted
- 39:35to know how the second week went. Karen is going to keep me in
- 39:37the loop and said she'd be sending me a big report when they finished the
- 39:40ten week course. And I think the ultimate goal for these people that have
- 39:45gone from zero to five k will be to run the NonStop for the Folkston
- 39:50Park Run. Okay, time for a bit of music now, and it's
- 39:53the crush test dummies, Brian Adams. They can't stop this thing. We
- 40:04started thirty nineties, about ninety one, I think. Okay, so let's
- 40:09just recap about the London Marathon now. I'm on a bit of a mission.
- 40:14I want to find runners that have never ever done a marathon, but
- 40:17I've got into the London for the very first time, so that's two boxes
- 40:22to tick. The very first marathon, the very first time they've got a
- 40:27London entry, and of course the very important fact that they're running for a
- 40:30charity. Now, have you meet all those conditions? Please drop me a
- 40:34line because as we come up to the marathon, which is on April to
- 40:37twenty first, I do believe I shall be leading up to the marathon do
- 40:43a marathon special and I'd like to hear from people. I have got a
- 40:45few lined up, but I could do with more. You never know,
- 40:50it's great to hear these stories of people are just having to go and doing
- 40:53something special and raising the money, raising money for charity, putting themselves,
- 40:58stepping outside the box and doing something really special. Okay, a little song
- 41:02now from day clock five and this is the runout tune. You think he's
- 41:07pretty sure it's for Crystal Palace Academy, the Folkston and Hyde sports podcast,
- 41:15every local sport across the district. They clock five. They are are glad
- 41:29all over. I remember seeing them at the Tottenham Royal. If I've been
- 41:31to the Tottenham rules probably knocks it down. Now that was back in the
- 41:34sixties. Oh dear, it was a long time ago. Okay, well
- 41:37that's it from me this week. Next week at the moment, I've no
- 41:40guests, so I should be on the lookouts. On Sunday morning, I'll
- 41:45be freezing cold on the mic at the Canterbury ten. Now that is a
- 41:47sold out race, so I don't know. There's over a thousand there,
- 41:50and I'm sure that some of my potential candidates for a London marathon will be
- 41:54there, so I hope they're going to come up and say hello. So
- 41:59stay warm if you watching an outside match or outside anything really and keep an
- 42:02eye on social media for any cancellations due to the weather. So stay warm
- 42:07and I'll see you all next time.
