- 0:30Music. And welcome back to the Boundary
- 0:47Corner Podcast along with my partners Brian Siegel and
- 0:50Jonathan Talley. And tonight our very special
- 0:53guest from 2D PBI AM Curtis Wilson.
- 0:58And this episode of the Boundary Corner Podcast is brought to you
- 1:01by Doctor Jeremy Counts at the Main Street Pharmacy in
- 1:04Blacksburg. Your friendly neighborhood
- 1:06Pharmacy, 301 S Main St. Blacksburg, VA and Y'all know
- 1:12what's in Blacksburg, VA right now.
- 1:15I believe it's that Commonwealth Cup.
- 1:17Some fucking winners is what the opposite of what's in
- 1:21Charlottesville. There we go, losers.
- 1:26Pete, we appreciate you joining us tonight, man.
- 1:28How are you doing and how? Is the game Saturday?
- 1:32I'm still feeling good, man. You know, I watched at home for
- 1:34the first half. My my wife had to watch me act
- 1:38like a fool for for a good 60 to 90 minutes.
- 1:41And then we went to the bar for a little while and I was I was
- 1:44more calm because the game was in hand.
- 1:47It's nice having a game in hand in the first half.
- 1:50Like, complete second-half. No sweat.
- 1:53Just like, let's see how much we can put up on these fuckers.
- 1:55Well, Brian likes that too, because the last time Thursday
- 1:59night Syracuse game, we're playing poker in the basement
- 2:02and we get up like 20. What was it like 20?
- 2:05Or something like that it was. 24 We got this one on 24 I'm
- 2:08going. To play now.
- 2:10Next thing you know, he walked out with like 65 bucks that
- 2:12night. Like whoa.
- 2:13Like he was. Playing loose, I was, I was
- 2:16feeling myself. I was like, let's, let's go,
- 2:17man. Oh my gosh, by the way, Yep, Mr.
- 2:21Drones joining us tonight. Let's go.
- 2:24If y'all haven't seen Mr. Drones.
- 2:26Also got his Boundary Corner water bottle today and is out
- 2:31there on Twitter. But.
- 2:32Y'all. We have a ton to unload.
- 2:34Pete is here for a lot of reasons.
- 2:36A We love. Pete, can I can I say something?
- 2:39Go ahead. Can I say something?
- 2:40Because Pete's here Pete Pete is here because that is that's
- 2:45prophet Pete. Prophet Pete from the preview
- 2:49panel, a lot of PS but that's Prophet Pete because when he
- 2:54came on the when he came on the on the panel he told us some
- 2:58things. He talked about some things.
- 3:00And I watched it come to fruition and I said, damn that
- 3:03motherfucker, smart. I've tweeted that video out a
- 3:07couple times from. I was going to do it too, but I
- 3:11say, you know what, I'm going to let him do that.
- 3:13Oh, I'm going to wait until he comes on and we might tweet it
- 3:15out after that. But seriously, if you go back
- 3:19shameless plug, look at the preview panel and listen at what
- 3:23Pete said about this team this year.
- 3:26We had a lot of people doubting. We had a lot of people that
- 3:28didn't know swaying one way or the other.
- 3:30And a lot of the things that Pete said in there came came
- 3:34true and I was, I definitely was happy to see it.
- 3:37I mean I was on, I was on board the whole time kind of what
- 3:40where we are. But like I said, the stuff that
- 3:43Pete talked about in that show was was pretty cool to see it
- 3:47come to, I don't know just about the 2019 team and how this team
- 3:51compared. And and while I was talking
- 3:53about that, I said if things aren't going so well, we might
- 3:55see Karen drones and we might get a spark in the team and have
- 3:58a very similar run like we had in 2019.
- 4:01I hoped that it didn't go like that because I was hoping Grant
- 4:04Wells would come in, hit the ground running we we'd be fine.
- 4:07But that's not how it went. And it it did turn out a little
- 4:10bit like 2019 and there was some comparisons in there.
- 4:13But I appreciate you bringing that up Tally, because I have
- 4:17thought about that a couple times since.
- 4:18Definitely, man. You know what else I started to
- 4:20to tweet out too? Mike McDaniel and David Y'all
- 4:25came on this show and you told me.
- 4:27You didn't see us making it. You was doubters, man.
- 4:31I love y'all. But guess what?
- 4:32You were fucking wrong. You said five.
- 4:35I told you to go to six with me. You wouldn't move.
- 4:37You wouldn't move. So kind of move.
- 4:40We love y'all. He tried to sell them into
- 4:42coming up to six with him because Tally had a good feeling
- 4:44about to see. Tally was also very happy to see
- 4:46that win because Tally was sitting here last week after we
- 4:49got off. He's like, y'all we got to win
- 4:51this fucking game Because if we don't win this game.
- 4:53My whole or of we're going to have.
- 4:55It this season's going to come from my boy.
- 4:58I know they had me. I know they had me.
- 5:00Bookmarked. Yeah, people had you bookmarked.
- 5:01I know they had me bookmarked, man.
- 5:03But you know what boys? Everything went to fruition.
- 5:08Like Pete said, we're going bowling for the first time since
- 5:112021. Back in that double up on wins
- 5:15this year. Look who's in the house.
- 5:18There. He is.
- 5:22And we got to do what we normally do, Pete, every
- 5:24Tuesday, whether it's us three or Shelton's able to join us.
- 5:27You're joining us this week. We tell the truth Tuesday.
- 5:31And it's a concept that comes from one of our friends who's in
- 5:34the coaching ranks to concept Pete Carroll sit.
- 5:36You sit down every for them. It's Monday and you say what
- 5:40went well. What went bad?
- 5:43What can we do better and what we didn't expect?
- 5:45So y'all, let's just start it right out there and about what
- 5:49went well. And I'm going to say this, it's
- 5:52the edge that this team played on both sides of the ball.
- 5:56They played mean, they played nasty.
- 6:00They wanted to go out and hit people.
- 6:02They found contact. And and that's a that's a that's
- 6:05a thing you got to love to see when it comes to the the sport
- 6:08of football as a team that wants to do that because it's the it's
- 6:11basically putting their will on someone.
- 6:13That team reminded me a little bit of some of those 2000s team
- 6:18that would literally break break teams will with their
- 6:23physicality, and that output on Saturday reminded me some of
- 6:29that getting getting back to that type, that brand of
- 6:32football. That's definitely been missing.
- 6:36I thought the O line definitely played physical and I thought
- 6:39the play calling was pretty outstanding, especially while we
- 6:43were still working the formula or so to speak.
- 6:46In terms of setting up the pass with the with the RPO game and
- 6:50having Chiron run a lot early and then that led to the passes
- 6:54late. I thought Tyler Bowen called a
- 6:56great game. Yeah, man.
- 6:59I mean, it comes down to the the brightest stars are going to
- 7:01shine the brightest. You know what I'm saying?
- 7:03Like the the biggest stars shine the brightest.
- 7:06When you get in the in the position to shine, that's what
- 7:09you do. You know what I mean?
- 7:10So we went in there, we had our mindset on what we needed to do.
- 7:14And I feel like every star on our team went out there with a
- 7:19purpose and they did what they were supposed to do.
- 7:22You had, you had drones, you had two, you had lane.
- 7:25Even though in the stat sheet it shows he didn't catch a pass, he
- 7:28called a touchdown. There was no holding on that
- 7:32plan. I don't know.
- 7:35D Tackle falling down is not holding.
- 7:37Yeah, and then he let it go and then the the offensive lineman
- 7:40let go. But anyway, I digress.
- 7:42You know Felton and the the Tucker Holloway and he, the
- 7:47coaches from the top to the bottom.
- 7:50We went out there and we beat their ass like we was better
- 7:53than them. We went and showed it.
- 7:55They tried to have some fabricated hatred or something
- 8:00through the week with that quarterback and a couple of
- 8:03their players had some stuff going on.
- 8:04Well, I hope that you stopped coughing up blood by now.
- 8:08OK. How about that pressure on
- 8:10Calandria? Tell me.
- 8:12Hey, Brian, real quick before we because we're going to hit the
- 8:15defense first, you'll hold those thoughts in.
- 8:16Brian, you put something on here about the win itself and I want
- 8:19you to explain why you wrote that, because you wrote that in
- 8:22there. I didn't.
- 8:24Which one? The culture win.
- 8:27Yeah, I mean, like I was saying, you know, thinking back back to
- 8:29those 2000, like this looked like a team that was playing
- 8:34with an edge with a type of intensity that I have not seen
- 8:41in a while. Like whether it's APR going out
- 8:45there and honestly getting a couple late hits on the
- 8:48quarterback that rattled his cage, that shook him up.
- 8:53And that was the, I mean, they had two first downs in the first
- 8:55half. They were both off of those.
- 8:57But that quarterback was not the same.
- 8:59And that's how we used to set the tone.
- 9:02And I got. To give a little, I got to give
- 9:05a little bit of credit to the quarter, to UVA's quarterback
- 9:08because he kept getting up. You know, people like he he's a
- 9:11warrior, man. I got to give him his props.
- 9:13He kept getting up, but he kept getting hit, man.
- 9:16He got to understand like you you.
- 9:19I'm from Alabama and I'm a Virginia Tech fan.
- 9:21So when I first. Started like, I've been a
- 9:23Virginia Tech fan for a long time, but when I first started,
- 9:26you know, getting involved with Virginia Tech, Twitter or going
- 9:31to the games and things like that, it's certain stuff that
- 9:34you got to know and you got to adapt into.
- 9:38One of the things that I did when I went to one of my first
- 9:40games, somebody asked me about Frank Beam and I was like, yeah,
- 9:42it's time for him to go. That was not the right thing to
- 9:45say. I'm going to tell you right
- 9:47quick, like it was some people that was on my ass.
- 9:50Hey man, you can't say that you? We don't talk about Frank like
- 9:53that. I was like, y'all ask me a
- 9:55question. You know, he's a, he's a kid
- 9:58from Florida that came to Virginia.
- 10:02I guess they did a great job recruiting.
- 10:04And he starts talking about this rivalry not really knowing the
- 10:08roots of it, I don't think. Because if you start looking at
- 10:11the kids that had, you know, ties to being pissed off at him,
- 10:15you had pain. You had APR, you know Fuga's in
- 10:19there. You know, and then you had
- 10:22Narelle Pollock, who is from Florida, but he's been at
- 10:24Virginia Tech for 19 years. So I mean, these are people that
- 10:29know what this rivalry is and. Got some shots in at him too.
- 10:33I mean, the statements that he made was just.
- 10:36You just don't do that. It's not.
- 10:37It's not good business for him. Because what do you all think?
- 10:40Where do you all think all those things went?
- 10:41Where do you think that? As soon as that, as soon as he
- 10:43said that, it, I mean tweeted it out on Saturday.
- 10:46It was on every screen, it was on every locker.
- 10:48It, it was posted everywhere. And it should be because you
- 10:52think about who we have on our side in our coaching staff, the
- 10:56Pearson Preludes, the Adidas, JC Price.
- 10:59I mean it's endless. And all of those guys have a
- 11:02deep understanding of this rivalry and it's something that
- 11:05I'm sure there's some some UVA guys on that staff over there.
- 11:09It's just not the same. Our head coach was in our
- 11:12building as an as an assistant back in the day.
- 11:15He has an understanding. He went to high school in
- 11:17Virginia. It's and we brought in Frank
- 11:19Beamer. I don't know if you guys saw the
- 11:20video. That he put out a couple hours
- 11:22ago, but Frank talked to the team and I can.
- 11:26I can only imagine how much this was emphasized, especially after
- 11:30that NC State game didn't go so well.
- 11:32These guys were mentally ready. They were more mentally prepared
- 11:36for this game. They played like it and our
- 11:39coaches coach like it. 100% and it started up front and you say
- 11:43it started on defense. Y'all are mentioned that the QB
- 11:45pressures. 6 sacks, 7 players, seven players with at least a
- 11:50half a sack or better. Cole Nelson and his motor going
- 11:53crazy, finding Calandri multiple times, slamming him down.
- 11:58But it was just the whole game, right?
- 12:01That whole game that D line attacked and Y'all mentioned
- 12:04Fuga, Y'all mentioned APR. It was.
- 12:07They literally just said we're pinning our ears back every play
- 12:10and we're going to attack like. Well, we saw early on they were
- 12:14not going to be effective rushing the football.
- 12:17So bend your ears back, go after his ass.
- 12:20The only way they're winning is if they get the ball down field.
- 12:23If he drops back, hit his ass and it showed up on the stat
- 12:26sheet too, because we had the six sacks in total.
- 12:28There were five on Calandria, but there were eight hurries.
- 12:31We had only had a maximum of four hurries.
- 12:34In any other game we had double that and then we had six sacks
- 12:37on top of that. That's an immense amount of
- 12:39pressure. Crazy amount of pressure.
- 12:41And then if you think about it too, and this is my feeling on
- 12:45it, y'all, don't see what you want to say.
- 12:47I almost think JC Price told them on that first drive.
- 12:51I don't give a shit. Hit him.
- 12:54I don't give a fuck. If the ball is released, hit
- 12:57him. And and to your pallet.
- 12:59To your point, just a few minutes ago he kept getting up
- 13:02but he knew it was coming. It was White Day.
- 13:05I know it's him. He was thinking about even the
- 13:08touchdown pass. He threw the deep one.
- 13:10Like he got rocked and. He was slogan.
- 13:15He got rocked. And then it was crazy to me when
- 13:18they reviewed the, when they reviewed the, the hit from one
- 13:22of the hits from pain where he hit him in the shoulder.
- 13:25And the commentator's like, that's not a targeting.
- 13:27That's not they. They better not call that a
- 13:29targeting because his his face mask is up and he doesn't even
- 13:32hit his helmet. You know what I'm saying?
- 13:34It's like it. Was hers like who?
- 13:37Always seems to shit. It's like it also said I hate
- 13:39him. But it was like it was
- 13:43controlled aggression, man, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:45Besides, besides APR getting too late hits, but it was like we
- 13:50ain't getting kicked out of the game.
- 13:51We're not going to target when he starts to slide.
- 13:53We'll whatever, we're going to hit him every play.
- 13:56Though that first one wasn't going to be that bad, but Fuga
- 13:58got a piece of calandry at the end and he just fell right into
- 14:02where APR was coming through and and just teed off on it, man.
- 14:06The second one, yeah. A little little, little, little,
- 14:08little late. But you know.
- 14:10They should have never threw one on Burgos, though.
- 14:11Burgos was just legitimately there as he was finishing his
- 14:14throw and they were just like, all right, y'all got to stop it.
- 14:17Y'all got to stop hurting it. You're being mean.
- 14:20But then y'all saw it, and we saw it while watching the game.
- 14:23Like when that happened so quick early.
- 14:25You could see he was. He was thrown off his back foot.
- 14:27He short armed a few. He created the errant throws and
- 14:32the lane should have had a pick 6.
- 14:34Oh yeah. Dodge That ball was right there.
- 14:36I. Don't like those hands?
- 14:38Yeah, right. But we eventually get one.
- 14:41But as as we were talking about last week and probably Pete, you
- 14:44talking about as well, it's like we do this, it's he's gonna
- 14:48force it. He's already he's kind of a
- 14:50turnover machine, which, yeah. You know, do you remember the
- 14:53Maryland game? I know it was a little while
- 14:56ago. He threw 3 picks on three
- 14:57straight throws. And they were winning that game
- 15:01when all that was happening, right?
- 15:03They had a chance. I mean, the kid, he's shown an
- 15:06ability to make plays and be dynamic in the past game and
- 15:09whatnot, and we really made him, for that first half look God
- 15:13awful. Yeah, yeah, the kid has moxie.
- 15:16Whatever you want to call it, but like.
- 15:18He's still, he's still a true freshman quarterback and he
- 15:21looks the part a lot of times. And we made him look every bit
- 15:24of true freshman quarterback for that first half.
- 15:27Yeah. Now, now something, Brian, you
- 15:29mentioned a few minutes ago and we all saw it and it's always
- 15:31it. It's the worry part.
- 15:32It was our rush defense because we've seen we've sprung leaks at
- 15:35times this year. We come off the game versus NC
- 15:39State where Armstrong has some really good runs and we don't
- 15:42control that and Calandry does have a little wiggle to him,
- 15:45but. You know, at the end of the day,
- 15:4943 yards net, 29 rushes, like they couldn't run the ball and
- 15:55and that's that made me alleviate because when I saw
- 15:58them like early, like they can't find holes because you know, I
- 16:03hate to say this, we're five and six each year and every game we
- 16:06lost. We always had a big run, strong.
- 16:09I mean, that lost the Marshall game, that helped swing the
- 16:12Rutgers game. The Purdue game as well and it's
- 16:15like you're sitting here and and it's just the type of fans I
- 16:18know we all are. It's just like, oh God, they're
- 16:21just like they're going to get like a 45 yard run.
- 16:23Well, you know what? Early in the game, what?
- 16:25You know, when I was texting, y'all, I'm like, we're going to
- 16:27win. There ain't nothing to worry
- 16:28about. You know how Shelton is.
- 16:29He's looking at our analytics all week.
- 16:31No, they don't. They're not good here.
- 16:32We're good here. So he's doing that.
- 16:34But I'm just like, I'm looking at this and they're not going to
- 16:36win. Like we're going to beat them
- 16:37and we're going, we're going. I mean, when did you guys, when
- 16:40did you guys feel that? Though that's what I was going
- 16:42to tell you so during the game. When Pollock tackled, I think
- 16:47his pace from their team and he kind of twisted his ankle up and
- 16:52he had to had to go in the locker room for a minute.
- 16:55Just the way that he made the tackle.
- 16:57I didn't want anybody to get hurt but we have been so bad at
- 17:01not wrapping up or not game tackling or not making sure
- 17:06tackles. When he tackled him in the
- 17:07backfield and it was like just a.
- 17:10A good back, good tackle for loss.
- 17:13I was like OK, they're ready to play.
- 17:15So from then on I was like they're not going to run the
- 17:16ball we're we're and that was early in the game that may have
- 17:20been first quarter, was that the one where Hollins got his leg
- 17:23rolled up like was it? Hollins that got rolled up.
- 17:25That's it was, yeah, yeah, yeah, it was Hollins.
- 17:28And I think it might have been hollered that that took him
- 17:30down. But yes, I I remembered that and
- 17:31I was like, OK, that was that was the game.
- 17:34We did look like he got twisted. Yeah, because you got so many of
- 17:37of games that we go back to. That guy doesn't make that
- 17:40tackle and that run goes for 20 yards.
- 17:42So that run goes for 15 yards or goes for a first down and
- 17:45extend. When he made that tackle in the
- 17:47backfield and just how he made that tackle, I was like, yeah,
- 17:50it's going to be a rough day for them.
- 17:52Yeah, I I hate to see a kid get hurt.
- 17:53I didn't want him to get rolled up on.
- 17:56I think I was, you know, I think he came back in the game, so
- 17:58that's good. But when we made that tackle I'm
- 18:01like, yeah, it's it's over. Y'all, might as well just go
- 18:03ahead and get your Pinatas out. You were.
- 18:05You were earlier than me because I needed the Gosnell touchdown.
- 18:09As soon as we got that does that 10 point margin and that
- 18:14beautiful call that gave us a ton of momentum.
- 18:16I was like I think we're good. I I really, it felt like at that
- 18:20moment with the with the way the crowd reacted and everything, I
- 18:23was like, I feel pretty good right now, being up 10, nothing.
- 18:27Ziegler, if I recall. Have we?
- 18:30Did we get up 10 nothing this entire season and not ultimately
- 18:34blow out or win the game? We got up and it would blow.
- 18:38Out or about 10.10 point advantage.
- 18:40I don't, I don't think we had a got to a 10 point advantage the
- 18:43whole season and didn't ultimately win the game.
- 18:46So I mean that that was one option.
- 18:48The the one that kind of stood out to me from a defensive side
- 18:52was when they first threw that that first like tunnel screen
- 18:56out to Malik Washington and we had like 8 hats to the ball that
- 19:02that was, I was like, OK, we're playing like we need to.
- 19:06I don't think they're going to be able to do a whole lot
- 19:07offensively, and I thought we were going to have have enough
- 19:10juice. I didn't know we were going to
- 19:11score 55 points, but I thought we were going to have enough
- 19:13juice to to to put that one away at that point.
- 19:16Yeah, that was reminiscent of the Wake Forest game and the
- 19:19Syracuse game, that gang tackling that swarming.
- 19:22We saw that in those two games. We we didn't really need it as
- 19:25much in the BC game because BC just like really played awful
- 19:28and called a terrible game. But, but in the weight game and
- 19:32the Syracuse game, you saw that gang tackling and having hats
- 19:35near the football and it was there on on Saturday.
- 19:39I'm with Pete. Pete, it was the guys now
- 19:40touchdown A because of where we were in the ballsy call and if
- 19:45you saw that play develop. We were getting the first down
- 19:48regardless if he had handed it to two and we were getting the
- 19:49first. If Kyron decides to run as he's
- 19:52rolling out, we're getting the first.
- 19:53But instead they suck everybody in and he just got just ran
- 19:57right under and it was just gone.
- 19:59But, but you see him going to that play and it's like the
- 20:02nerves are on that play. Like if we don't get this, I
- 20:06feel OK because they have done nothing offensively.
- 20:09They got the ball to Washington to try to get a first down and
- 20:12they could not get it. But I'm with you Pete.
- 20:13That touchdown was it like? It was just like.
- 20:17They're not going to be able to score more than two times in a
- 20:20row to get back in this game. Speaking of Washington, if you
- 20:24look at his game stats, Oh my God, he killed us.
- 20:27If you would have told me, just look at the game stats, I would
- 20:30have been like they won this game 14 for 1:15.
- 20:35Oh my God. But then you actually look at
- 20:37the real stats first half. Y'all do y'all know what he did
- 20:40in the first half? It wasn't that.
- 20:42It wasn't 100. 50 right under 35 or 26 is all he had in the first
- 20:49half. So he Pats at it like crazy.
- 20:52We'll get to, you know why, where he should have been.
- 20:55But if you told me he went for 1:15, if I was sitting here and
- 21:00y'all were a little bit drunk, y'all didn't know what was
- 21:03happening in the game, Washington's going to have 115
- 21:05yards. Y'all be like.
- 21:07Yeah, that's not good. Probably not good for us.
- 21:10Probably not a good day especially when you you know
- 21:12think well if he's got 100 and you know 15 yards that means
- 21:15Fields probably has at least 80 or 90 and you know, but I mean
- 21:22that that's why when you look at look at the game it's it's a
- 21:24different story though. I mean they really didn't do
- 21:28anything offensively until like late the third quarter.
- 21:31I mean, I. Mean he caught some.
- 21:32Even then, at that point, it's like the game was out of.
- 21:34Reach he caught some passes on somebody #27 I think he.
- 21:40I don't know. I think he was in the stands at
- 21:42the beginning of the game, No disrespect.
- 21:43I think his last name is Childers or something like that.
- 21:47He's a white DB. How many white DBS?
- 21:49You know, that's good. Like he caught some passes on
- 21:52him. So I don't know how many yards
- 21:54he caught on him. I'll go back and look.
- 21:56But by the time they start trying to pass that, I mean we
- 22:00had some stat pad, we had some third stringers and I mean it
- 22:06was four boys in. You know that it was 38 to
- 22:09three. You're gonna you're gonna ease
- 22:11your foot off the gas a little bit on defense.
- 22:14I kind of wish we hadn't I kind of wish we had won 55 to 3:00.
- 22:18But it's it's OK. I also, I mean, after they
- 22:21kicked that field goal, there was there was a party
- 22:24apparently. About the light.
- 22:25Show. Yeah, man, the light show came
- 22:27on, man. Light show and fireworks and
- 22:29fireworks. That's just absolutely
- 22:31ridiculous. Yeah, that's that's one you
- 22:33gotta somebody, somebody in the booths got to check out of that.
- 22:38That's what he called audible. You can't.
- 22:39You can't be doing that, man. And I'm going to call an audible
- 22:41because it's a set up right to what we talked about.
- 22:43We're talking about all three phases of the game.
- 22:45Let's talk about the special teams, because after that
- 22:48happens, they do the fireworks, they celebrate their field goal,
- 22:52which you don't look for a field goal down 31 to nothing.
- 22:56You can go for the touchdown, tune, runs that ball back.
- 22:59And again, it was Brian you. It kept it.
- 23:03It was. This did feel like an old school
- 23:05Virginia Tech game because we were hitting hard.
- 23:08And then all of a sudden, he found that crease and found the
- 23:10sideline and just turned. That patience, man.
- 23:14God. He waited for everything to set
- 23:16up, hit the hole, broke a tackle up the sideline.
- 23:21Yeah, that kind of felt like, I'm sorry.
- 23:23Brian, no, you go ahead. Go ahead.
- 23:24No, it just felt like a a perfect way for Tootin's regular
- 23:30season to culminate. Because he has had such a
- 23:33fantastic season and to see all of the phases of his game, his
- 23:39burst, his patience and just like the way he is such a
- 23:42playmaker all in one play for a touchdown to basically put the
- 23:46game out of reach, although it was already out of reach, that
- 23:50was amazing. Don't forget, he went up in the
- 23:53He went up in the stands and had the beer.
- 23:55Yeah, he did he. Found it too.
- 23:57So definitely was a great time. Well, but it just showed you
- 24:01like that. Like that was joy right there.
- 24:03Like you know, most of those guys when they get near the end
- 24:05of an end zone, they don't think about it.
- 24:08It's find your teammates, celebrate.
- 24:10He saw the plethora and it was a plethora of Virginia Tech fans
- 24:15there and he went to them and you can see the look on his face
- 24:17when he come off. Like I shouldn't have did that.
- 24:20But it felt so good to to do that.
- 24:24Couple other things on special teams.
- 24:26John Love two for 2 from 40 plus by the.
- 24:31Way dude. He's been.
- 24:32He's been money this year. He has been.
- 24:34Money. He's been money this year, man.
- 24:35And if you look at him kick those balls, those balls went
- 24:38through midway up that that's 50 yard plus.
- 24:41Shut up John Love on that. And then how about Donta Lovett
- 24:44being Johnny on the spot when they fumble that ball?
- 24:47Like right there and I know. How about Lovett?
- 24:50His mom would love to hit. Somebody on the sideline and
- 24:53murdering them. You think that kid ain't ready
- 24:57to get in there and play? Yes.
- 24:59Golly. Yeah, he's ready, man.
- 25:01He's ready. And I mean special teams overall
- 25:04be just solid solid across the board.
- 25:06I mean I think late late the game we had that that one muff
- 25:12that kind of is what it is but no harm no foul there.
- 25:15But overall we were just a really good game from special
- 25:18teams especially love seeing him you know knocking those those
- 25:23deep ones back. I'm like wow.
- 25:24OK, so we we we've got some range here.
- 25:27We've got a guy that if we can get it, you know, around the 30
- 25:30yard line, we got a guy that can make those kick kicks pretty
- 25:34consistently. That's a big time asset to have.
- 25:37Well, that's a win. That's that that they play deep
- 25:39defense is play different. If you have a guy that's that
- 25:41consistent because it's like, OK, listen, we've got to attack
- 25:44because they're going to get three points.
- 25:47When you're ahead of the game, it's even more like, you know,
- 25:50we were ahead, you know, big on this one.
- 25:53But you get into a tight game and it's like you go up 20 to 17
- 25:56and it's like, OK, you know what?
- 25:58There's a 25. If we don't attack and get a 10
- 26:00yard loss here, he's going to pipe this one right down the
- 26:03middle. It's not going to be a problem.
- 26:04And now we're going to have to go score a touchdown to be tied
- 26:07in this game. All right, I'm going to flip it
- 26:09now. I'm going to go to the offensive
- 26:11side of the ball. Yeah, when you're just Willy
- 26:13nilly. Exactly.
- 26:15Shout out Andrew there, but let's talk about the offensive
- 26:18inside of the ball. And I can't remember who
- 26:20mentioned it, but Tyler Bone was in his bag on Saturday.
- 26:25Yeah, I I had said that. And you know, I've given and I
- 26:29think everyone gave Tyler a lot of crap last year.
- 26:32I thought this year it was going to be tough to bring him back
- 26:35unless you brought in a Co OC. We didn't do that.
- 26:38We actually promoted him to quarterback coach and the
- 26:41offense looked pretty much the same and pretty much just as
- 26:44anemic through the first three to four games.
- 26:47But lo and behold, they switch up the offense.
- 26:50And we saw some more creative playmaking and I wasn't sure
- 26:53earlier in the year who to give credit to because there's been a
- 26:57lot of talk about Brent Davis and his contributions to the RPO
- 27:01game and more of the option looks that we do because he was
- 27:04from Army. But I think we know that the
- 27:07play caller for the games is Tyler Bone.
- 27:09We know that we've been able to schedule some nice play calls at
- 27:12the beginning of games. Well, this one was a master
- 27:15class because the way everything's set up.
- 27:18Like if we don't have that penalty on 3rd and one if you
- 27:20want to talk about things we could have done better.
- 27:22Again, we had a penalty on a third and one that backed us up.
- 27:25We might have scored a touchdown on that first drive.
- 27:27You know things things kind of changed after that.
- 27:29But he was, he was absolutely in his bag, he absolutely was.
- 27:35And that the Gosnell one was really beautiful.
- 27:38But there were so many things that he did in that first and
- 27:41second quarter that set things up for later.
- 27:43Yeah. And what I liked is that, yeah,
- 27:45we had the big plays, but we also had a lot of.
- 27:47Just really good drives that culminated in scores that
- 27:52culminated in points. And so, I mean, it was really
- 27:55there wasn't anything that they were throwing at us that that he
- 27:58wasn't ready to have something to counter or in most cases
- 28:03being on the attack and taking the game to the defense and
- 28:07making them have to adjust. He really kept them off balance
- 28:11the whole game. And and the nice thing was like
- 28:15this, we knew this wasn't a ferocious front seven.
- 28:18I mean there's there's a linebacker or two that are all
- 28:20right, but they're D line, despite bringing a bunch of guys
- 28:23back, has been a sore spot for them all year.
- 28:26And it was when I was looking at it, and I see that they're 117th
- 28:30in yards per rush allowed going into this thing, I was like, I
- 28:33think we know what we can do in this game.
- 28:36And we did it well, and we did. And we were able to hit them
- 28:39with some different things. You know, the thing that I like
- 28:42the most you were talking about, you know the the front seven
- 28:46there, we, we attacked them early and often.
- 28:48They really had to keep Sanker in the box most of the game to
- 28:53stop that. And I think that's what opened
- 28:55up some of the deep stuff that that kept him in a spot where he
- 28:58was having to kind of play in, in a conflict situation whether
- 29:01I'm going to support the run, support the pass.
- 29:04So it really kept them off balance and didn't let let
- 29:06Sanker kind of. Yeah, he he was still out there.
- 29:10He was a tackling machine but he was in a spot where he was in
- 29:12conflict the whole game. He got dragged into the end
- 29:16zone. He did get dragged into, he did
- 29:19get dragged into the end zone. Felton did that to him and that
- 29:22was that 84 yarder and and again I think it's Shelton is a big
- 29:26explosive play guy. P If if you don't know Shelton,
- 29:29I know. I follow your guys stuff.
- 29:31I God, he he follows it so close.
- 29:34But on Saturday, I mean, we think about it, that's 35 points
- 29:38or it's 28 points between the Gosdale 44 yarder.
- 29:42Then you got the Holloway on that little fake trick.
- 29:44By the way, they studied that XTB play last week so hard that
- 29:48when they act like they were running to him, the whole
- 29:50defense went to him and Tucker just had a lane.
- 29:52It was just like Kyron got to stand in and try to act like he
- 29:56was blocking. He.
- 29:58Just skipping. He was skipping.
- 30:00He was a little shuffle, little shuffle, just getting loose.
- 30:03I'm so happy for Tucker, for that, that touchdown, man.
- 30:06Wearing the 25 and everything like that was that was very
- 30:09cool. And you're right, man.
- 30:10They they thought they read it. But they read it wrong.
- 30:14They read it completely wrong. But it's it's having those guys
- 30:18like that and that is what what has been missing for years at
- 30:23Virginia Tech is having the multiple explosive guys.
- 30:27And and we saw how well that this staff recruited in the
- 30:32portal last year with Tootin, with Felton, with Jalen Lang,
- 30:36where all those guys that at any point in time they can pop a big
- 30:40one on you. And that changes the dynamic of
- 30:42a team. You don't have to plot every
- 30:44time. There is not enough teams in
- 30:46this country good enough to take it and go 10 plays, 75 yards
- 30:51every single time. With eight yard, 12 yard plays,
- 30:55you have to hit home runs. And and not every You can't.
- 30:59You can't be late to late, late 2000s Wisconsin.
- 31:02Every. Damn.
- 31:03Time, especially not us. No, no, we ain't got the.
- 31:07We ain't got the Joe's to do that.
- 31:09All right, Well, y'all. What did y'all think about
- 31:10Kyron's performance? I mean, my guy, he's my guy,
- 31:15man. I mean he, he does what he's
- 31:17supposed to do. I think you mentioned it
- 31:19earlier. You know, I got between a couple
- 31:21of different chats and you know, groups and things like that.
- 31:27Somebody said on one of his runs where he had opportunity to go
- 31:30out of bounce. And somebody said, man, he needs
- 31:34to get out. You know, he doesn't need to.
- 31:36He didn't need to try to run people over.
- 31:38He doesn't need. That's how he plays.
- 31:40He's been playing like this. You know what I'm saying?
- 31:43Like as a football player, you can't think this is the play.
- 31:46I'm going to get hurt. You know what I'm saying?
- 31:48I just don't think that's in his DNA.
- 31:50You know what? I'm I'm not in his head, but I'm
- 31:52watching him play. He knows when he needs to get
- 31:55down. He knows when he needs to get
- 31:56out of bounds. But like sometimes, man, that
- 31:59mentality that he brings to the offense, it's just.
- 32:01You can't really put it on paper.
- 32:03You know what I mean? You can't really say this is a
- 32:05stat, but it'll be a run because you know in every game you can
- 32:09go to a run where he just wants to punish the defense.
- 32:13And I'm sure he walks back to the to the huddle and say, did
- 32:16you see what I did to these motherfuckers?
- 32:17Like, they ain't. They don't want to smoke for
- 32:20real. They ain't you when you got your
- 32:22quarterback that has that kind of confidence.
- 32:25It exudes through your whole offense, even when you a fucking
- 32:27sucky offensive lineman, when you got a quarterback behind you
- 32:31that's talking like that and then he has that kind of
- 32:33confidence. It does give you a little bit of
- 32:35Nope. It lost you there, Tally.
- 32:40Yeah. Well, Brian, you got something
- 32:42on this. Yeah, I was just going to say
- 32:44like, he's smart with it too. The way he attacks, when he,
- 32:48when he decides whether he's going to run through a guy or
- 32:50not, man, Because you see it and.
- 32:54When he does that, he's he knows that he has the leverage.
- 32:57So he he's the guy that's bringing the impact.
- 33:00He's not meeting a guy that's coming at him full speed.
- 33:03He's meeting the guy that's standing there broke down and
- 33:06he's going to run through him and I think so.
- 33:08So it's very selective with how he does that, but it definitely
- 33:11is a a way to have that mental edge against the defense when
- 33:17you do it like that. And there's if there's ever a
- 33:19game to send a message and not go out of bounds.
- 33:23It's the last game of the year against your rival.
- 33:25Let it. Let it all hang out, man.
- 33:26Like, unless you're going to knock yourself out of the game,
- 33:30Logan Thomas style. Getting getting a concussion
- 33:32against UCLA. Like, yeah, send a message
- 33:34because it's the last game of the year.
- 33:36Run yourself into the ground because you ain't playing for
- 33:38three weeks. You might not play again if you
- 33:40don't win the game. So I loved it.
- 33:42I thought Carmen played a great game.
- 33:44I don't care that his percentage was what, under 59?
- 33:48Yeah, because. 30% of his completions went for touchdowns
- 33:52and he made the throws he absolutely needed to make and
- 33:55they were perfect. The the throw to Lane that
- 33:58didn't count was perfect. The throw.
- 34:01The throw to Felton that did count was perfect.
- 34:03The Gosnell throw was perfect. Like 244 yards on 10 completions
- 34:10like that is absolutely ridiculous.
- 34:12I know the 84 yarder helps, but he had 50 yards rushing too, so
- 34:15we're talking about. Around 300 yards from that guy
- 34:20on basically 7 plays that that did something, that's that's
- 34:25incredible production. He's a gamer, man.
- 34:26He's a gamer. He is a gamer and it's.
- 34:29And by the way, I don't know if y'all mention this.
- 34:31Sorry I had to step offline there for a moment.
- 34:33No UV as quarterback did not outplay him.
- 34:35No. If you want, let's just look at
- 34:38QBR really quick. Oh yeah, well he threw for just
- 34:41as many yards and almost as many touchdowns.
- 34:43QBR was 73.2 for Kyron and 21.7 for Anthony Colundry.
- 34:50Yeah, he didn't. Watchers telling us who played
- 34:52better in this game or something like, did you watch the game?
- 34:54No, they didn't. They didn't.
- 34:55They just wanted to try to talk their boy up.
- 34:57Yeah, it's it's always fun when people look at stats and then
- 35:00like, Oh well, the stats actually say that he had a
- 35:02better game too. Like, what do you did you watch
- 35:05the game? Did You're not even looking,
- 35:07You're not even looking at stats correctly?
- 35:10Yeah, exactly. All right.
- 35:12Another couple quick things to play.
- 35:15Run game was awesome Tooting 7 + a carry on top of that 94 touch
- 35:2094 kickoff return touchdown and then and you know the run game
- 35:28just again why I feel like I'm reminiscing.
- 35:30Again we had a run game all year like all year 252 Saturday.
- 35:38So if we even just let's just throw out the 117 and the the 50
- 35:43from Kyron. We had other guys getting close
- 35:46to 100 yards in numerous and various ways and again, it just
- 35:50when you go almost 7 to KF feels awesome.
- 35:53Yeah, yeah, that's a team. It was like 6.8, correct?
- 35:57I mean, 6.8, we were able to just push them around.
- 36:00And you're right, Curtis, I think about the Purdue game and
- 36:05the Marshall game in particular all year because they were so
- 36:09winnable. And if we had had this offense
- 36:11from the beginning with Kyron, what could have been?
- 36:14At the same time, we're not going to a New Year 6 either way
- 36:18and we would have been in a bowl either way.
- 36:20So it's kind of all right, but I'm glad that we got to this
- 36:23point. I wish I had started a little
- 36:24earlier, but it was a thing of beauty for the wins that we had.
- 36:28The run game was working perfectly that in the
- 36:30second-half of the year like for the offensive line that's in
- 36:34front of these guys and and God, God bless these these kids that
- 36:37play a line, but it's not the best unit and we know that.
- 36:42We made the most of it in in these ACC wins, 1000% and and
- 36:49for the offensive line you mentioned earlier, Pete, you
- 36:52know I'm trying to get Brown on here but he had a step off like
- 36:54I did. But that was, in my opinion,
- 36:58that was the best game they played all year in every aspect.
- 37:01Run game, pass blocking. They gave up no sack and it just
- 37:05like you said, Pete, we were physical up front.
- 37:08It like got mentally into their heads.
- 37:10Go get these guys, grab them and push them out of the way.
- 37:16Yeah, it was. It was good to see you this kind
- 37:18of what Internet was going in and out there for a minute.
- 37:21But I think I would have heard Pete talking about was when you
- 37:24look back at something like the even the ODU game, I think we
- 37:29had 100 yards rushing as a team. You know, you look at the Purdue
- 37:33game, we had like 30 yards rushing at 18.
- 37:37No, we had, we had like we had like 12 railroad.
- 37:39It was like 11 or 12, Yeah, 1111 I.
- 37:43Mean and you think about those teams now at the end of the
- 37:45year, it's like Purdue is not a great.
- 37:48They're not a good team. They finished last and you look
- 37:51at the. Worst.
- 37:52Division and you. Yeah.
- 37:53And you. And then you look at it too.
- 37:55And then you look at what he brings to the to the field and
- 37:57you're like, what were we thinking?
- 37:59What were we doing? You know, and it's just what I
- 38:02don't want to put so much on on on Kyron's shoulders, but it's
- 38:05just little things that he does like his footwork.
- 38:09I never seen us run the play where he where he, like Cupid,
- 38:13shuffles to the sideline and tosses it and we get in two and
- 38:16gets on the edge. Every time we run that play he's
- 38:19get like 10 yards, you know, every now and then instead of
- 38:22Kyron tossing it, he'll just hold it and then he goes for
- 38:251012 yards. It's, it's.
- 38:28More than his. Physical ability.
- 38:31It's more than the way he plays, it's more than the way he runs.
- 38:33It's the belief that he can get us a win.
- 38:36I I honestly believe that when we started hooker in that 2019
- 38:39year and we will make the comparison one last time, the
- 38:43team didn't all the sudden get way better.
- 38:45Like the the entire team started playing better because they
- 38:48believed they had a guy who could win.
- 38:51And that is really what happened to this team post Marshall.
- 38:55Is they're like, you know what, I think this this guy might have
- 38:58it and they all play harder because they think they had a
- 39:01chance. Like, there's been so many
- 39:03examples of this in sports, but I'll give you 1 real quick.
- 39:06Steve Carlton back in the day for the Phillies awful year, he
- 39:09won 20 games because every time he pitched the team thought they
- 39:13could win. They might have won 60 games the
- 39:15entire season, but twenty of them were one Carlton pitch.
- 39:18That's what Kyron gives us. That's.
- 39:21Crazy Ryan. We were talking about the
- 39:23offensive line here and from our perspective and again, it's my
- 39:27unknowing eye. Tally's kind of knowing eye
- 39:30because he played in tight end. He knew things that have to be
- 39:32best offensive line performance. All year, Yeah, definitely the
- 39:36best all year. I mean, especially when you look
- 39:40at relatively competition, it's kind of hard to, you know, make
- 39:42that judgement, you know, across the board there.
- 39:44But in terms of just raw output, yeah, that was that was the best
- 39:48they played all year. There really wasn't any.
- 39:52Presence of that team in the backfield.
- 39:55We were consistently moving guys off the ball.
- 39:57The run game was working, whether it was going to Tuden,
- 40:01you know a few carries there for for Thomas.
- 40:03We had you know obviously drones got involved in the running game
- 40:06there as well. So we were really kind of doing
- 40:09whatever we wanted to for for most of the game.
- 40:13You know, I don't think they really had a tackle for loss
- 40:15until like the late third quarter or something like that.
- 40:18So it was it was a really impressive performance.
- 40:22Like I said, when you look at the overall picture that that
- 40:27wasn't a very good front seven. If if if Sanker wasn't in the
- 40:31box, we could have really gutted that team, he.
- 40:35Was all they had. Man, that guy.
- 40:38And the key is good. Robinson, him and Sanker and
- 40:41Robinson are not going to be there all four years.
- 40:44They're not. And Sanker.
- 40:46'S a very good player. Let's see if we can get the Cam
- 40:48Robinson to come. Yeah, up 64, a little bit down
- 40:5181. Where he should have been to
- 40:55begin with. All right, real quick.
- 40:56I'm going to start with Pete. Pete, in your eyes, both sides
- 41:00of the ball, what went bad in your eyes?
- 41:02I did mention the false start in the third and one first first
- 41:05drive, and that happened against BC happened in this game both
- 41:08games. We ended up romping later on
- 41:10because we showed an ability to move the ball Despite that
- 41:12penalty. Again, I'd say third down.
- 41:16It wasn't as big of a deal in this game because we were able
- 41:19to just get on top of them and whatever.
- 41:21Third down has been a problem all year.
- 41:22It wasn't a great percentage in this game either.
- 41:24I think we were 6 or 15 or maybe whatever it was below 50% I
- 41:29believe, so that could be better.
- 41:32I'm not going to rag on the red zone because we scored so many
- 41:34touchdowns from far away and I don't want to take any anyone
- 41:38else's. What do you guys got in terms of
- 41:40the what we could do better. You know, I I think we probably
- 41:45got a little out of hand with the roughing the passer there,
- 41:48especially on you know one or two drives in a row.
- 41:50But I I think like I said, it was a good tone setter like
- 41:55because I feel like from then on out like they they really knew
- 41:58that. All right it's not our day.
- 42:00It's not our day but you know at some point you don't want to
- 42:03hurt yourself. Really got them into field goal
- 42:06range. Thankfully a bad play by them
- 42:09and a very good play by our defense got them back out of
- 42:11field goal range, so. Yep.
- 42:13What about you, Tally? I mean, the only thing you
- 42:16really can point to is penalties.
- 42:17You know, I think we had over 100 yards in penalty.
- 42:20So between jumping offsides or hitting the, hitting the
- 42:24quarterback late or celebrating with the fans, all that stuff's
- 42:29great because you're winning 55 to 17.
- 42:31But as a whole, you know what I mean?
- 42:33Like if you just want to say what went bad like.
- 42:37We don't need 100 yards in penalties.
- 42:38We know a lot of times when we play, teams especially like
- 42:41going into a bowl game, not knowing who we play.
- 42:43We don't need to get that many penalties.
- 42:45Did any of you guys mention the fumble?
- 42:47I was getting ready to say it. Yeah, that's sorry.
- 42:50Goal line again, it's something we have not seen Kyron do a lot
- 42:54this year other than like the first game with Rutgers.
- 42:57But I mean we we look at him like this could have been 60 and
- 43:01if we didn't take our foot off the gas pedal it might have been
- 43:0370 and like. And and again but and sometimes
- 43:08you in a game like this, you hope stuff like that happens
- 43:11because I think someone like Iron Drones watch the next time
- 43:14he runs down at the goal line. I guarantee you that thing will
- 43:17be extra secure because all year we've seen him, if you've made
- 43:20mistakes, the next time you're like, you know what he's cleaned
- 43:24that up a little bit like, it's like he sees it.
- 43:27I'm not going to do that again. That hurts my team and I love
- 43:30seeing that. All righty.
- 43:31So I'm going to let Pete. This is our this is the fun one.
- 43:36Pete, did anything happen you were completely not prepared
- 43:39for? You know, I wasn't I wasn't
- 43:44prepared for A50 Burger. I honestly wasn't like I I did
- 43:49not think we haven't blown out UVA since 2016.
- 43:54Before that it was basically since 2011.
- 43:57So I was, I was just not prepared for for the I was
- 44:01expecting and I said it on our podcast.
- 44:04A three and a half hour stomach ache.
- 44:06I was expecting to be stressed out the whole time and so that's
- 44:10what I wasn't prepared. Prepared for.
- 44:11Just like UVA not showing up and us absolutely being ready for
- 44:16the moment. Siegel, I think you've got
- 44:19something similar, right? Yeah.
- 44:21I mean, I was not expecting to shellac their ass for four
- 44:24quarters. I was expecting.
- 44:26I picked us to win. Was it 30 to 20?
- 44:29I think it's what I said. So, I mean, I was expecting us
- 44:32to have it in hand, but it was going to be something where I
- 44:36was kind of sweating the whole way.
- 44:39I did not expect us to go out there and beat them 5517.
- 44:43I didn't expect the type of tone setting on both sides of the
- 44:47ball that we saw. I didn't expect them to
- 44:49completely shit in their shoes like they did.
- 44:53So you know, not not even shit the pants.
- 44:56If you're shitting in your shoes, that's a fucking.
- 44:58Thing. Talent.
- 44:58What about you? Because that was a good one.
- 45:03Pretty good. Yeah, I I wasn't expecting.
- 45:06I mean, why don't you not tell him?
- 45:08I knew he had some speed and I knew he had some talent, but I
- 45:11didn't expect. I watched UVA play a couple of
- 45:14times this year and they looked competent against some teams.
- 45:17Even in some losses, they've lost a lot of close games,
- 45:20mainly because they're a young team.
- 45:21I didn't. I didn't expect us to look like.
- 45:24So overpowering and so fast. Like when you have a, when you
- 45:29have a your running back that runs a a kickoff back and he
- 45:33starts celebrating and throttles down at the 30 yard line like
- 45:37you are faster than that team. You know 84 yard, 84 yard
- 45:42touchdown with with Felton who is 65.
- 45:46I don't even know how much he weighs.
- 45:48Like he's he he catches the ball kind of in traffic and just
- 45:52pulls away. You know it it is crazy to me to
- 45:56see how much faster we were than them.
- 45:58And I think, I don't think like on paper with that much faster
- 46:01than them. I just think that they didn't.
- 46:03They didn't have a will to win like it was gone.
- 46:07I I totally agree, man. You think about those 3 plays
- 46:10that you mentioned in every single one and you actually you
- 46:13didn't mention the lane. Call you back.
- 46:16I mean, he had two or three guys in front of him.
- 46:19And split right through Felton, same thing.
- 46:21And Tootin had some blockers but still like we looked so much
- 46:27more athletic and faster than them and that without, you're
- 46:30right I wasn't totally prepared for that because since they're
- 46:33bye week UVA has played very, very well and knocked off UNC.
- 46:37They almost knocked off Louisville.
- 46:39They they played a really tough game to overtime with Miami.
- 46:42So they beat Duke exactly as Robert has pointed out, like.
- 46:47I there was a lot of things in that regard and it's similar to
- 46:50what me and Brian said that we just didn't expect.
- 46:53I'm going to tell you what I what I didn't expect, y'all is
- 46:56and it's on the off defensive line what they did.
- 46:59I can see that happening. I didn't expect the offensive
- 47:01line to play the way they did the off.
- 47:04But Brian you've been Brian's been saying the last couple
- 47:06weeks and some games like that things are clicking they they
- 47:09don't look as slow. Yeah, false starts.
- 47:12But Brian, you've kind of been saying like?
- 47:14Something's happening. Something's happening with the
- 47:17younger guys. It's it's just slowly, it's a
- 47:20slow ground. You get a coach in March, that's
- 47:22the way it's going to happen. But I didn't expect us to
- 47:25dominate the trenches. If you say, hey, we had a good
- 47:28game, we rushed for 200 yards. We, you know, we we, we gave up
- 47:31a couple sacks. We played good.
- 47:34No, we dominated. We dominated.
- 47:37And that's, you know, that's when it goes, that's when it
- 47:42goes to. Mentality and I'm going to we
- 47:45got a question here from Derek. Yeah.
- 47:48I'm on this question, man. I'm.
- 47:51Going to put this up and I'm going to Pete because you're our
- 47:54guest. I'm going to let you go last so
- 47:55you can think about it, Brian, what's better, Ryan Williams
- 47:58versus State, Felton against FUVA.
- 48:00You know what? I got to go, Felton, just
- 48:02because it was against UVA, man. Tally.
- 48:07I mean, it's hard to compare those two because Ryan Williams
- 48:11ran somebody over. You know what I'm saying?
- 48:13Like in the middle of the field he he runs somebody over and
- 48:16then you got and then you got Felton drag somebody into the
- 48:20end zone and then hops up and starts dumping on the other
- 48:23player. Like you know what I'm saying?
- 48:25And then and then walks up to him and starts talking junk and
- 48:28the guy doesn't even turn around.
- 48:29So I it's hard, man. It's hard to pick.
- 48:32But I I'd have to go Felton. I I you know, I'm going to say a
- 48:36little sweetness, Ryan Williams because.
- 48:39The way he had Earl Wolfe sliding on his butt like that
- 48:42was so embarrassing. That was the guy, right?
- 48:45Earl Wolfe and he. Took him right into the end
- 48:48zone. He was incredible.
- 48:50To Tally's point, he ran him over and then he grabbed the
- 48:52jersey. You usually see that at the
- 48:54like. It was like it wasn't like the
- 48:55three or four. It was like at the 8.
- 48:58And he grabbed him and pulled him and Williams just.
- 49:01I'm I was born and raised in the country it looked like a tractor
- 49:04pull because Williams body went up and it was just like no I'm
- 49:07going to just keep dragging you until I get the touchdown.
- 49:09So we're split on that but great question there.
- 49:12I we usually do this because we have things to look forward to.
- 49:16But I mean I'm, I'm going to kind of put a retrospective on
- 49:21this if if you told me, if you told us after Marshall that we
- 49:26would be making a bowl that the only teams that we lost to.
- 49:30Were a combined and I got to do the record in my head real
- 49:33quick. What, 23 or 32 and six?
- 49:39That's the only teams we lost to Y'all.
- 49:41They're combined 32 and five. I do the math right?
- 49:46No, hold on, you got you got a game in there somewhere.
- 49:49Yeah, odd number, so that that's definitely not right.
- 49:52We. Lost two We lost zero.
- 49:55Louisville's lost 2. That's two.
- 49:57State lost 331 and five. That's the only three teams.
- 50:01We've lost two after Marshall. Yeah, and you can say, well, you
- 50:04played the bottom of the conference, But you know what?
- 50:07Sheldon sent me this and y'all seen it out there.
- 50:09They're only like 7 teams that beat 5 conference opponents by
- 50:1217 plus points. We're.
- 50:14Wanting I was arguing with some SEC fans early on Facebook and
- 50:19they was telling me how bad the the ACC sucks and things like
- 50:22that. They was telling me that Florida
- 50:24State wasn't getting in. Over blah, blah, blah.
- 50:26And I was like, you do understand if they go undefeated
- 50:29they're going to get in. But this they have.
- 50:31I say Florida State has as much money as these people that y'all
- 50:35are naming. And on top of that go check the
- 50:39go check the stuff from this year.
- 50:41The SEC against the ACC is ACC is 6.
- 50:46The SEC is 4. I think it's like, so you're
- 50:50telling me how bad the ACC substitute that beating the
- 50:53mighty SEC. No disrespect, LSU.
- 50:57Do they be week 13? I argue.
- 51:00With them, I argue with them every, like every time I go to
- 51:03the barbershop, we have the same talk and maybe Florida without
- 51:06their starting quarterback man. And let.
- 51:09Let's also talk about, since we're talking about going
- 51:11bowling, let's talk about the ACC with the most bowl teams
- 51:14this. Year.
- 51:15I think we got 12 teams, right? Of the P5, that is correct.
- 51:18We are 11 bowl teams. Only the Sunbelt has more
- 51:22because. JMU got in on on the on, on.
- 51:26The type of card, not. Enough.
- 51:28Not enough teams eligible, but the entire Eastern Division,
- 51:31including our first opponent ODU, is bowl eligible.
- 51:35And is the only what is the only teams not bowl eligible that we
- 51:38played this year. There's a couple.
- 51:41Three, Yeah. The only team we lost to that's
- 51:43not bowl eligible is Perdue. Yes.
- 51:45Yes, it's craziness. Well, let's keep going and talk
- 51:47about a few other things because I think we're going late this
- 51:50night, boys. Let's talk about the All ACC.
- 51:53First of all, there are no Hokies on the first team.
- 51:57I'm sure y'all all saw that and who got OK Where's the bigger
- 52:03robbery? And I'll start with Pete.
- 52:05Here is the bigger robbery. Actually there's three.
- 52:07So APR being a second teamer, defensive line basial to be a
- 52:15second teamer all-purpose, even though he's 27th in the country,
- 52:19third in the conference, and he's the only one with all the
- 52:21all-purpose yards. Or is it Dorian Strong Thirteen?
- 52:25We saw Treadmill Horse put some data out there.
- 52:28Other people put the PFF data out there.
- 52:31Where's the bigger robbery? I think APR is the biggest
- 52:34robbery and and the reason why is because you can make the
- 52:37argument that people didn't throw on us enough or at Dorian
- 52:43enough to warrant him getting on first team.
- 52:46I might be able to buy this. I think he should be first team,
- 52:49to be clear. But I think APR, just by putting
- 52:51up 9 1/2 sacks and being at the top of the conference on AD line
- 52:55that was at the top of the conference, he should have got
- 52:58recognized as first team. I think that is BS especially.
- 53:01I know there's some, there's some very good pass rushers in
- 53:04the ACC, NC State and FSU and whatnot.
- 53:08But you put up those kind of numbers, you have some of the
- 53:10games that he had and all the pressure that he brought.
- 53:13I feel like APR is the biggest snub, but I'll let you guys make
- 53:17a case for anybody else. Callie Who you got?
- 53:20Who's the biggest snub? It's hard to pick, man.
- 53:23But you know, I I would have to say APR as well.
- 53:26You know, the two thing kind of kind of bothers me because you
- 53:29know, they got Keon Coleman on that, which is the offseason.
- 53:32Great player, but they got him on there like 3 different
- 53:34things. You know what I'm saying?
- 53:36It's just like, oh, just 'cause he's on Florida State, we're
- 53:38going, we're going to suck his Dick and put him on, put him on
- 53:41this, this and this. Like 3 different spots.
- 53:44Really. You know what I'm saying?
- 53:46And like, I think he was on there as a return and he had no
- 53:48touchdowns. How do you get on this return?
- 53:51I don't think he had any touchdowns.
- 53:52Tooting tied for the national lead with two return touchdowns.
- 53:57I mean, I know, look, I know it's the difference between 1:00
- 54:00and 2:00 or zero. It's not very much.
- 54:02It is very much. Those are very hard to score.
- 54:06That's very hard to score. You know what I'm saying?
- 54:08They've changed things so you can't score.
- 54:10They want people to Kick It Out of the back of the end zone.
- 54:12So when you get an opportunity and you go score, you know, like
- 54:16that, That's a big accomplishment.
- 54:17So. He got, he got choked up, he got
- 54:25choked up, I got messed up. Kind of like Robbie said with
- 54:29APR stats alone or just, you know, So I think they should
- 54:32have got in first team. Yep.
- 54:33He's AI mean. He's a top ten.
- 54:35He's a top ten in the country, sax top ten in the country.
- 54:38That's great. Is that working on favor though,
- 54:40Curtis with him not getting that first?
- 54:43Oh my. God, yes.
- 54:45Yes. I think it works in our favor.
- 54:47I think it works motivationally, wise in our favor.
- 54:49I do not want to be the quarterback, whoever we play in
- 54:51that bowl game. Siegler, yours.
- 54:56Yeah, I'm going to have to go with Dorian Strong here.
- 54:59When you think about shut down corners and and and Pete brought
- 55:02this up, you know him not getting that many targets.
- 55:06Part of being a very good corner is not letting guys get open
- 55:09where you're going to throw the ball their direction.
- 55:13So if you are locking up guys like that and it's not just the
- 55:18target, so the targets are low, sure, but the targets are are
- 55:21not significantly lower than the two guys on first team.
- 55:24Look at the percentage, the the, the, the catch percentage.
- 55:28It's crazy. It's like 28%.
- 55:31It's insane. And that was lower, lower, 4/4
- 55:36and 1/2 percentage points lower than the one of the other first
- 55:39teamers. And he had three interceptions,
- 55:453 interceptions. The other one of the others on
- 55:47first team had five. I think the other one had I
- 55:50think one or two. So interception wise, completion
- 55:56percentage wise, yardage he he's leading in all of those
- 56:00categories. Like I said the interception is
- 56:02the only one where he doesn't have as much as any of the other
- 56:05two first teamers. He he's in second in that case
- 56:07definitely should have been one of the the the two two players
- 56:10on first team. I I.
- 56:13You know what? You know what it might be?
- 56:16It might be the the 40. The 44 might be doing it.
- 56:19Man get get that man a single digit.
- 56:22Give him a single digit. Yeah, Tally's hated that 44 all,
- 56:25all, and now it's costing him time.
- 56:27I'm going to go last year and by the way, that is our coach Buddy
- 56:31Robbie Compton out there. So always, always following.
- 56:35He's got great Internet. Now he's going to chime in so
- 56:38much when he's not coaching there.
- 56:39I loved when you guys had him on.
- 56:41What was that over the summer? Maybe that was.
- 56:43That was a great episode. Robbie's great, man.
- 56:46Robbie, I mean, I mean, all I can say is Robbie's got a guy
- 56:50playing in the NFL now. So, I mean, you don't, you don't
- 56:54get to do that. All right, I'm going to go mine.
- 56:56And I kind of tipped it off a little bit.
- 56:58What I said to Pete, there is spatial tune.
- 57:00It's the AP is the all-purpose player.
- 57:04Facial Tune is 27th in the country, the throat clear.
- 57:07You know what's getting to. This basial tune is 27th in the
- 57:11country with 14136 all-purpose yards.
- 57:16There are only two ACC players who are ahead of him.
- 57:19Talk to him, Kurt. One is Malachi Washington.
- 57:23Malachi Washington. Did not even break 300 yards on
- 57:26kickoff returns this year. He had very minimal rushing
- 57:30yards. That's not all-purpose.
- 57:32You're a great receiver. Yes.
- 57:34The other one is O'marion Hampton from North Carolina.
- 57:39Over 1400 yards rushing, only about 200 yards catching the
- 57:44ball. Basial Tootin Keon Coleman.
- 57:46Let's not even get into that 700 passing yards.
- 57:49Like 150 rushing in. Like 300 punt return yards.
- 57:53Not even close. He's not even on the first page
- 57:56of the data board. Here's our boys 727 rushing
- 58:01yards, 220 receiving yards, 489 kickoff return yards.
- 58:08He did not even have 200 plays to get 1400 yards this year.
- 58:13Crazy. And you know what, Curtis?
- 58:15It's not even does O line not factor in.
- 58:20That would be my contention is that you look at those numbers
- 58:24and then take into account the old lines the other guys are
- 58:27playing behind and what Tootin's playing behind.
- 58:29It has to play a factor and our just our roster strength in
- 58:33general. I believe it got significantly
- 58:35better than last year, but to put up all that all-purpose
- 58:38yardage. With a with a roster and
- 58:40swapping quarterbacks a few games into the year, it is
- 58:43absolutely impressive and he should be on that.
- 58:45First, let's let's talk about He pretty much started the season
- 58:49with a hand behind his back in those first two to three
- 58:52outings. Yeah.
- 58:54He was breaking 10 tackles for one yard.
- 58:58He looked like Pacheco out there, man.
- 59:01I would love to get that data of how many he broke this year,
- 59:05because he broke a ton and I'd love to do it as.
- 59:07This oh, you got to check out the the Doug Bowman article on
- 59:10247. Just put one out and it was like
- 59:13we broke a ridiculous amount of tackles and and yards after
- 59:17catch and everything. That that article was really
- 59:19good. Just show you who put it out.
- 59:21Player Doug. It was Doug.
- 59:23Yeah, he said, he said. I think in that article it said
- 59:26two broke like 61 tackles and and last year.
- 59:31I think we were led by Keyshawn King, who broke like 19.
- 59:36You know, it was, it was a crazy different number for what what
- 59:39they did. This is a great point here,
- 59:41probably brought up. Think about that.
- 59:44He put those sort of numbers up with drones getting up.
- 59:47There were games where drones were doing a lot of carrying
- 59:49too, so that's even more impressive.
- 59:51Again, they screwed up. They got some right, don't get
- 59:54me wrong, they got some right. But they definitely screwed.
- 59:56I think at least two of our guys out of first team, and I think
- 59:58Dorian at least should have been.
- 59:59What about John Love? Shouldn't he be first team?
- 1:00:01He's like 9th in the country in field goal percentage.
- 1:00:04Is love even only hold on? I think I don't know mentioned
- 1:00:06mention got. I don't mentioned he's like, I
- 1:00:09think he's second in the ACC. Yeah, he should have been at
- 1:00:11least second team. So it's a lot of things.
- 1:00:14All right. I got to turn to a little bit of
- 1:00:15sad news here and this is going to become a segment from here on
- 1:00:19out and it is going to be discussion of the portal.
- 1:00:22We're going to have to give it and to take it away.
- 1:00:24And unfortunately Brian, sorry, right there I'm.
- 1:00:28I'm I'm going to survive, man, because this is Brian's boy day.
- 1:00:32Quality and the poor went out earlier.
- 1:00:33Well, yeah. Is that where you went a little
- 1:00:35bit earlier? Did you go ahead?
- 1:00:36Because you knew we were going to talk about it?
- 1:00:37Had it. Given my cat was throwing up on
- 1:00:39the carpet, oh wow. We had also had issues tonight.
- 1:00:43My boss, she's now passed out over here on her bed, so she's
- 1:00:46good. I don't know what was going on,
- 1:00:48but Daquan right enters the portal third this year in both
- 1:00:52receptions and receiving yards for Tech.
- 1:00:56There are some things, and I'm not going to mention what I've
- 1:00:58heard, but the apparently there's some things going on in
- 1:01:03other parts of his life that potentially could be affecting
- 1:01:06this. It seems like this may be an
- 1:01:07amicable split. I hope it is, but it hurts
- 1:01:11because I mean that guy he, he's growing.
- 1:01:15I mean he got better as a blocker.
- 1:01:17Brian, you mentioned several times this year he's he's
- 1:01:19showing better. It stinks and.
- 1:01:24Well, you know, there's there's the rule that you can only have
- 1:01:26one Daquan on a team and we already had Felton and like we
- 1:01:29already broke that rule for one season.
- 1:01:31So he's got to go, unfortunately.
- 1:01:33But I, I he was such a good playmaker for us in a spot of
- 1:01:38need because we lost Gallo before the year and we needed
- 1:01:42some guys at tight end to step up and him and Benji.
- 1:01:44Kind of traded off on that role and while at times their
- 1:01:48blocking was a little subpar, they were very good playmakers
- 1:01:52and and Daquan Wright will be missed.
- 1:01:54Definitely. Yeah, I mean, he's that kind of
- 1:01:58guy that gives you a lot of matchup nightmares.
- 1:02:00I know we didn't use them in the red zone a lot, but in the
- 1:02:03middle of the field, when you can match him up against a
- 1:02:07linebacker, match him up against the safety, I mean, he was
- 1:02:10really, he could really eat. On those crossers, those deep
- 1:02:13crossers, he was doing a lot of good things in, in those areas,
- 1:02:17just really giving drones a target in the middle of the
- 1:02:20field. So that's going to be missed big
- 1:02:22time. I'm really little little torn up
- 1:02:26about it, but I like what we have in in in in Benji Gosnell.
- 1:02:31I feel like he's going to be a guy that can step into that
- 1:02:33role. I just think that when you talk
- 1:02:36about the the, the things that show up on a stat sheet.
- 1:02:41I feel like right ceiling was significantly higher than what
- 1:02:44we probably will get out of Benji.
- 1:02:45But in terms of overall what a tight end has to do, probably
- 1:02:49Benji would be the better player in that just because I think his
- 1:02:52blocking overall is better and you can use him in line a lot
- 1:02:57more than you can use Daquan, right, 100%, right.
- 1:03:01We've been going an hour here and we're still not to the break
- 1:03:04because we've got to talk about next year.
- 1:03:06We've got to talk about there's already some guys we know are
- 1:03:09not coming back, some medical situations, we got some COVID
- 1:03:13year stuff. This is a huge shout out.
- 1:03:16David Cunningham from tech sideline, Brian got in touch
- 1:03:19with him and he was able to provide us with this and there
- 1:03:24are five guys that they're done. There's no way they can come
- 1:03:28back. It's Mario Kendricks, Norell
- 1:03:31Pollard, Darius Payne. That's a lot of defensive
- 1:03:33tackles right there. Tisdale and Nasir Peoples.
- 1:03:39What y'all's feels? I mean, I feel like Tally, you
- 1:03:42joked earlier, it does feel like Pollard's been here like 19
- 1:03:45years, Kendricks, but I mean, I think we we I say that right
- 1:03:51there. Y'all got to say it.
- 1:03:53We we've got to go get some guys in the portal for defensive
- 1:03:55tackle without a doubt. Yeah.
- 1:03:58I mean the go ahead, Pete, I'll let you run.
- 1:04:01Go first. I'm sorry Brian I keep I keep
- 1:04:04talking over my host here the Fuga like do we have to just
- 1:04:08like make sure he comes back is that someone we're like because
- 1:04:11at this point it's such a spot of need.
- 1:04:14I feel like we want to keep as many that are eligible to come
- 1:04:16back in the house because it is. It's going to be rough with it's
- 1:04:22it's Payne, Pollard and Kendrick's.
- 1:04:24Right. Pollard.
- 1:04:25And all three. All three, which is, Which
- 1:04:30leaves just Fuga and Panay as guys who play significant
- 1:04:33repetitions this year. That's it.
- 1:04:35A lot of young guys who have, you know, you got like Gunnard
- 1:04:41Givens, you got Lamar Law. I'm missing one here.
- 1:04:44Malachi Madison. But they didn't get the reps and
- 1:04:48you. Yeah.
- 1:04:48I was going to say you were so pretty deep in that in that
- 1:04:51defensive tackle spot, you didn't get a lot of young guys
- 1:04:54reps that were significant, so. I mean, just got to pray that
- 1:04:58the portal giveth. We got to go get some people out
- 1:05:01of the portal to fill some of those spots, some older guys
- 1:05:04that's ready to play. Got to have at least two
- 1:05:08defensive tackles in the portal that are ready to play and
- 1:05:11that's if you know Fuga decides to come back.
- 1:05:14And I feel like at this point, as Pete alluded to, you got to
- 1:05:18do as much as you can to get him back because even if he's not
- 1:05:20your your frontline player. Depending on what you get from
- 1:05:24the portal, he's certainly somebody that you're going to
- 1:05:26want to lean on from a leadership standpoint and from a
- 1:05:28depth standpoint next year. Just from knowing the defense,
- 1:05:31knowing how to how to handle those situations and also again
- 1:05:34from a leadership perspective kind of knowing what it means to
- 1:05:37carry the lunch pail and things of that nature.
- 1:05:39So having him back I think would be would be clutch.
- 1:05:45But yeah, definitely got to hit hit the the portal hard on the D
- 1:05:49tackles. Feel like you also probably need
- 1:05:52to to grab a Mike linebacker in there with with Tisdale moving
- 1:05:55on. You know some of the other guys
- 1:05:58having some up and down points of the season where we really
- 1:06:03couldn't really find a lot of consistency until kind of the
- 1:06:05the back half of the year at that position.
- 1:06:07So I'm I'm definitely think that's probably going to be one
- 1:06:11that we are targeting as well and.
- 1:06:14I guess safety is kind of wait and see.
- 1:06:16Obviously we had periods of the season where people's wasn't in
- 1:06:19most of the start of the year also coincided with some of the
- 1:06:22areas where we were, you know, a little bit more leaky than you
- 1:06:25like to be on the back end, especially in the run game.
- 1:06:28So do we see some more guys step up that are younger that got
- 1:06:34some playing time this year, whether that's a a Jalen Jones
- 1:06:38or a? Most Phillips you know do they
- 1:06:42take a step in the offseason where you feel comfortable about
- 1:06:44that position or you know do you go out there and get another
- 1:06:47safety as well to kind of fill in there.
- 1:06:49So we really got some decisions to make just in those got that
- 1:06:53you know the the guys here that are done, done.
- 1:06:55You know all three of those are positions probably of need that
- 1:06:57you maybe you at least want to consider if not attacked pretty
- 1:07:00hard in the Portal this offseason.
- 1:07:02Yeah, 100% on that. With both those groups.
- 1:07:07Let's talk about the medical situation.
- 1:07:08Nick, you've got Nick Gallo out there who lost this season, you
- 1:07:12know, basically never played a down.
- 1:07:14And then you get Ollie Jennings. I think the Ollie Jennings
- 1:07:18situation, I believe he's coming back.
- 1:07:21Full throttle. Hope so.
- 1:07:23The, the, the, the tweet that went out, I don't know if it was
- 1:07:26last night or today alluded to that being the case, but we
- 1:07:32don't have anything that is official, official but.
- 1:07:35Based on that, I would say it's a very good chance that we are
- 1:07:38getting Ollie Jennings back for a a medical red shirt, a final
- 1:07:42season there. And then you know after we
- 1:07:45talked about that we got you Nick Gallo as Curtis mentioned
- 1:07:49and with with right going. Is that something that we try to
- 1:07:52press to get Gallo back for another year?
- 1:07:54Is that something that he wants to to kind of move forward with?
- 1:07:58And if he doesn't, is that another area where we need to at
- 1:08:02least get a guy? That can be a rotational piece
- 1:08:06to go alongside Benji Gosnell heading into next year.
- 1:08:11Tally, I'll let you go on. This, I mean when you think
- 1:08:14about tight ends, if we're talking tight ends.
- 1:08:18We're talking tight ends, Tally. Yeah, Nick, Nick Gallo deserves
- 1:08:23to to be able to play if he wants to play.
- 1:08:25But to come off of an injury and then think about, you know, the
- 1:08:30injury that he's had a significant knee injury in the
- 1:08:32bend. Taking all these hits these
- 1:08:34years, I don't know that he brings this offense, what it
- 1:08:38really needs, You know what I'm saying?
- 1:08:40I think Benji can bring what Nick Gallo can bring them
- 1:08:43together. It's just going to be the same
- 1:08:44player. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:08:45And what we need is what Wright is.
- 1:08:48So I don't know how you go out and find that, You know what I'm
- 1:08:51saying? UVA did it a couple of years
- 1:08:52ago, which what was his name? Jelani Woods, maybe That fucking
- 1:08:58beast that they had at tight end like.
- 1:09:02You got to go find somebody like that that's going to be kind of
- 1:09:04a a yin and Yang with with with Benji there but what I really
- 1:09:09need to see a little off topic pry can you go get your
- 1:09:13linebackers use the linebackers guy go get just like a white boy
- 1:09:17that's got blood between his eyes like he can look just like
- 1:09:21Dax. I just want him to be faster and
- 1:09:22a little bit taller, like just go get that person because that
- 1:09:28I don't know, man like. UVA always has like 1 crazy
- 1:09:32white dude that's like at middle linebacker.
- 1:09:34That's just all over the field. And I want to say, you know like
- 1:09:37Peyton, Peyton Wilson. I know there's not many of him
- 1:09:41in the world, but if there is one, can we go find him?
- 1:09:45Like, I just need to see that would that that would drive
- 1:09:47Virginia Tech fans crazy. Like they love that they look
- 1:09:50Dax what Dax Hollyfield will be a He probably never pays for
- 1:09:55anything in Blacksburg just because of what he looks like.
- 1:09:57Like he was just. The typical linebacker, you know
- 1:10:00what I'm saying? And he did have a very good
- 1:10:02senior year and leading up to that you could argue maybe he
- 1:10:06didn't live up to his recruiting ranking or as as maybe as we put
- 1:10:10it on him like we expected a lot from Dax when he got to got to
- 1:10:14Tech. But his senior year was great
- 1:10:16and I'm with you Tally like and NC States had a couple like they
- 1:10:19had Drake Thomas, and then they went to Payton Hills and they
- 1:10:21had them both at the same time. If you could get just one of
- 1:10:24those guys, I can think of one that's playing in the state
- 1:10:27right now. And no, I'm not talking about
- 1:10:28Stone Snyder from last year, which didn't work out so well.
- 1:10:32The kid Jason Henderson at ODU I was talking to.
- 1:10:36Some of the guys on the. Sun Saturday through Could you
- 1:10:38imagine if we got that guy like you know a Scooby right type to
- 1:10:44come in here and just make tackles like we?
- 1:10:47It would change our defense so dramatically and we desperately.
- 1:10:51Need a Mike linebacker? Like a real like.
- 1:10:54I'm not sure I see a guy on the roster that is a true Mike right
- 1:11:00now and so like that. That's an absolute need.
- 1:11:03But just to double back to Gallo real quick, he is walking that
- 1:11:08fine line between a thank you for your service card.
- 1:11:12And please come back because I can't.
- 1:11:14I can't quite decide. I love the Gallo brothers.
- 1:11:17They are, they're true bangers for real from Pennsylvania.
- 1:11:20Like they I I watched a lot of games with Eric and Philly.
- 1:11:24I saw him at the Rutgers game when I was up there.
- 1:11:26Absolutely great guy. Eric Gallo, awesome hokey.
- 1:11:30And Nick would help us next year.
- 1:11:32He would help us. But Harrison St.
- 1:11:35Germain, There was some good talk on him back in, you know,
- 1:11:38preseason camp or maybe even last year.
- 1:11:40And then? Obviously we got, you know,
- 1:11:43Benji is is is going to be a stud at some point.
- 1:11:46So what do you want to do with the roster spot?
- 1:11:49I don't know. But I don't think pride is going
- 1:11:51to. He's never going to tell Nick to
- 1:11:53walk away. You know he would.
- 1:11:54He would take me back in a heartbeat.
- 1:11:57I don't know much. I don't know much about the kid.
- 1:11:59I've seen him play his high school stuff, which was crazy to
- 1:12:01me, kind of how he slid to us. What is it?
- 1:12:05Zeke Wimbush. Yeah.
- 1:12:07So he's going to like he. His body size and the things he
- 1:12:11can do reminds me of what Wright can do.
- 1:12:13I just haven't seen him do it on the collegiate level, of course.
- 1:12:16But Wright came right in as a freshman and and was able to be
- 1:12:20kind of what he is. Zeke has the opportunity to be
- 1:12:24in the weight room for a year, so who knows what we get out of
- 1:12:27him? I don't know.
- 1:12:28I haven't heard a lot of talks about him.
- 1:12:30I seen a couple of videos on him before the season and I seen him
- 1:12:34play in high school and Lauren Johnson talked about him.
- 1:12:38When they played him. When when Highland Springs
- 1:12:40played him, and he was, if not the best player on the field, he
- 1:12:43was one of the best players on the field against Highland
- 1:12:45Springs, which was the best team in the state.
- 1:12:49Correct me if I'm wrong, Brian or Curtis, but wasn't Zeke a?
- 1:12:53Was he originally supposed to be a Gray shirt that they
- 1:12:55ultimately gave a scholarship to for this season?
- 1:12:57I think, I think he was more of a lot of upside, but a little
- 1:13:01bit of a developmental project. And hey, maybe it got started
- 1:13:04early because he got here earlier.
- 1:13:06Yeah, he was supposed he wasn't going to be a Gray shirt.
- 1:13:08He was going to be a preferred walk on.
- 1:13:10And then he he did good enough where they they gave him the
- 1:13:13scholarship early and y'all been talking about here.
- 1:13:16I'm like over here at, you know, on three looking at the transfer
- 1:13:20portal tight ends and being like, who can we get from here?
- 1:13:23Who actually makes sense. But we've got some other guys
- 1:13:26too. And you know what?
- 1:13:27I'm going to do this a little different.
- 1:13:29We're not going to talk because we're an hour and 15 in and we
- 1:13:31got a lot more to cover with Pete and I I have work tomorrow.
- 1:13:35Everybody has to work tomorrow. I don't feel like being here
- 1:13:37till midnight. This ain't stay of the program
- 1:13:39on a Friday night, which, Pete, we might be sending you a link
- 1:13:41to come. All right.
- 1:13:44I'd be honored. Yes or no answers.
- 1:13:46All. I want to give you the names
- 1:13:48these guys are eligible for COVID years.
- 1:13:49Y'all ready Grant Wells, Brian. No, no.
- 1:13:56OK. We're all a no, I'm a no.
- 1:13:59Steven Gosnell, Pete. Yes, White, Iverson Tally.
- 1:14:06They froze. The man froze.
- 1:14:10Siglo. I'm a yes.
- 1:14:12I'm a yes. Tally really likes White Iverson
- 1:14:15A lot. Yes.
- 1:14:15And notice Steven Gosnell, White Iverson.
- 1:14:18Yes. All right.
- 1:14:20Jay Lane Tally. Yes.
- 1:14:25Yes, thumbs up. Big thumbs up.
- 1:14:27Yeah, big thumbs up. Believe it or not, Clayton
- 1:14:30Frady, the transfer who came from Gardner Webb, is eligible.
- 1:14:35He only played in one game this year, came really late.
- 1:14:38Brian, you're the man. You're the offensive lineman.
- 1:14:44Whether so, I'm going to say tentative yes, but a lot of this
- 1:14:48is going to depend on how many scholarships we are giving to
- 1:14:52guys in the transfer portal because if I've already seen us
- 1:14:55throw like 3 or 4 offers out there to offensive lineman, so
- 1:14:58if that keeps up, I'm a no. Especially if if those transfer
- 1:15:05portal players are of a more seasoned caliber than Freddy is.
- 1:15:10At this point, the fact that Freddy didn't really come in
- 1:15:12here and at least crack that that rotational spot in in a
- 1:15:17weak offensive line room doesn't really inspire confidence.
- 1:15:20I know he came in late, but, you know, sometimes you just got to,
- 1:15:24you got to cut your losses and say, all right, well, we tried.
- 1:15:27We're getting into the portal earlier this cycle on the
- 1:15:30offensive line train. We are not waiting for the
- 1:15:33second window to really get aggressive about going after
- 1:15:36offensive lineman like we did last cycle.
- 1:15:38So I'm I'm like I said tentative, Yes.
- 1:15:41But if we start getting some guys committing to Virginia Tech
- 1:15:45in the portal, I say he's one you got to let walk.
- 1:15:48Yeah, you put it best when you said cut your losses because
- 1:15:51this this was a roulette spin. You just see, hey, could we hit,
- 1:15:55you know, red or black on Clayton Frady and we bet black
- 1:15:58and hit red like that. That's essentially what happened
- 1:16:00here. And like if you this, it's all
- 1:16:02it's up to Crook if Crook thinks he can work with them and get
- 1:16:05something out of him next year. But this is not a young player
- 1:16:08and so if he came in here and couldn't get in on this old
- 1:16:11line, I I think we have our answer.
- 1:16:14Yep. Clayton Frady Tally the.
- 1:16:20Office. No, he said.
- 1:16:23He done nothing. So no, I'm I'm a no, I think
- 1:16:26that there are some young guys between what we saw from Garrett
- 1:16:29what we saw from Brody Meadows. Unless he absolutely turns it on
- 1:16:34a we get nothing out of the portal.
- 1:16:35Which I don't think. I think we're going to get some
- 1:16:37stuff out of the portal. All right, Fuga Tally go.
- 1:16:43I got to say yes, we got we don't.
- 1:16:46Yes, yes, you said don't go into it.
- 1:16:48Yes, we'll just say yes. We don't have the luxury to say
- 1:16:51no. It's a yes.
- 1:16:52There you go. It's a.
- 1:16:54It's a yes. It is a yes and tally.
- 1:16:56I know what you're going to say and I'm going to sum it up.
- 1:16:59We losing 3 bodies. We only got 5 that played this
- 1:17:02year. You can't go into a defensive
- 1:17:04tackle room with two, so he has to stay.
- 1:17:08I'll go to the next one. Here is Kiante Jenkins.
- 1:17:10We've had Kiante on before and I'm yes, it's.
- 1:17:12And it's not the Caleb Woodson isn't ready.
- 1:17:15There's nobody ready behind Caleb Woodson and at that
- 1:17:18position you've got to have somebody, so bring it back
- 1:17:20Keonta. I'm a yes. 100%.
- 1:17:26Yes, I'm a I'm a yes as well. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:17:29I'm going to do 2. The kicker Hoeven.
- 1:17:33Long snapper Pollock. Sorry.
- 1:17:37Guys, No, they got. No, I'm good on both of them.
- 1:17:43Sorry. It it's it's John loves proven
- 1:17:46what he can. It's like we've got a proven
- 1:17:48younger long snapper. We got proven kicker, we got a
- 1:17:50kickoff specialist. Sorry, this is the interesting
- 1:17:54one because I did not know this Derek Canteen can add an
- 1:17:59additional year via medical Red Shirt.
- 1:18:02Yes. Absolutely, please.
- 1:18:05Absolutely A 100% and I'm going to go back to something, Brian
- 1:18:08said. Canteen, play some safety this
- 1:18:11year. We know we're going to be
- 1:18:12probably less in that room that lessens that blow potentially
- 1:18:16there big time. Well, we also have got word in
- 1:18:20the last, you know 24 to 48 hours that our cornerback room
- 1:18:24is a high priority for other teams throughout the throughout
- 1:18:30the country. So tampering.
- 1:18:32Yeah, it is tampering. So I I would definitely say, you
- 1:18:38know, you want to keep as many guys in the building as you can,
- 1:18:43so that's a big yes for canteen. All righty.
- 1:18:46I'm going to hit these real quick because again, we're
- 1:18:49running, we're running super with a lot of times here.
- 1:18:54I think over the last week, I think men's hoops has looked
- 1:18:58better. Women's has scared me the last.
- 1:19:02Week because men's hoop got drilled.
- 1:19:04What? Yeah, but decent team.
- 1:19:08I mean, FAU was a very good team, but I mean.
- 1:19:13So what we saw against Boise and Iowa State is what I hope we
- 1:19:17would see for most of the year. What we saw against FAU is not
- 1:19:22what I want to ever see again this year because aside aside,
- 1:19:27like I knew they were going to score some points.
- 1:19:30I was very disappointed in our offensive output and I know we
- 1:19:36live and die by the three, but at some point you got to shoot
- 1:19:40better than that. Yeah.
- 1:19:43Have you ever? Seen us get whipped like that.
- 1:19:45It's like when coached by Mike Young.
- 1:19:47I don't think we've ever been whipped, no.
- 1:19:49It was crazy to, I mean. Alabama Internet's getting
- 1:19:59actress tonight. Yeah, it was a Final Four team
- 1:20:01from last year. We all understand that and in
- 1:20:03fact one of the other Final four, Miami was just playing
- 1:20:06against Kentucky a little bit earlier.
- 1:20:07I didn't see how that one ended because that the SECACC
- 1:20:11challenge, whatever is, is going on right now.
- 1:20:13I'm not even used to that. But yeah man they they kicked
- 1:20:17our tail. And I I'm, I'm kind of just,
- 1:20:20it's one of those things where it's like let's just forget it
- 1:20:22and move on and see how the rest of the season goes, because that
- 1:20:25was just a you never see a Mike Young team play like that.
- 1:20:29It's true. All righty.
- 1:20:31Well, we have finally got to the break time boys, so we are going
- 1:20:35to take a quick pause from our digital partners and Main Street
- 1:20:39Pharmacy. I can probably save you a lot of
- 1:20:42money and I can take a lot better care of you.
- 1:20:44That's pretty much it. My name is Jeremy Counts and I'm
- 1:20:47a pharmacist. I own and operate Main Street
- 1:20:49Pharmacy here in downtown Blacksburg.
- 1:20:51My brother's a pharmacist. I'm a pharmacist.
- 1:20:53My uncle's a pharmacist. My dad's a pharmacist.
- 1:20:55I remember he would give me M and Ms. to count in little pill
- 1:20:58counters. This is something I've always
- 1:21:00done, and I'm just lucky that what I know so well is something
- 1:21:04that I can do and feel good about it and get back to people.
- 1:21:07Pharmacies are your frontline defense.
- 1:21:09Pharmacy's job is to make sure you're getting optimal care for
- 1:21:12the lowest price possible. Also, we take the pressure off
- 1:21:16of emergency rooms. I'll tell people immediately
- 1:21:18when they need to go to the doctor, or I'll tell them if
- 1:21:19they just need a cream over the counter.
- 1:21:21If there's something that isn't commercially available, if it's
- 1:21:24something that's not available in a certain strength or a
- 1:21:27certain form or anything like that, we'll make it tailor made
- 1:21:29medications. Some of those options save
- 1:21:31people a lot of money. What motivates me?
- 1:21:33I get to take care of people and live in Blacksburg.
- 1:21:36That's all neat. As we take a quick break, we'd
- 1:21:40like to tell you about getting your free website report from
- 1:21:43our digital partner, Grassroots Digital Marketing Studio.
- 1:21:46They'll tell you how your website ranks on Google onsite,
- 1:21:48SEO and social media. No commitment to buy anything.
- 1:21:52You can get your free report by visiting grassroots
- 1:21:54digitalstudio.com/free Dash website Dash Report.
- 1:21:59Now back to the episode. All righty.
- 1:22:02So now we get to the second-half of our episode.
- 1:22:05We don't have no The Enemy this week.
- 1:22:07I hope next year at this time we are talking about that, but we
- 1:22:10brought Pete on for a reason. Pete has been basically watching
- 1:22:13college games all year, as we all do.
- 1:22:16But if y'all haven't watched Pete's show comes on, you stream
- 1:22:19it live. I've seen it, I've occasionally
- 1:22:21watched it at work, it's occasionally taking me off.
- 1:22:23Some things I'm doing. You've been following just the
- 1:22:27season in general and that's why we wanted to bring you on for
- 1:22:30this because obviously we've got all of the games this week with
- 1:22:33the Championship games. But one other piece I wanted to
- 1:22:36discuss with you, Pete, was a lot of the coaching vacancies,
- 1:22:40hirings and firings. And as of today, I'm going to
- 1:22:42read them all of what's still open.
- 1:22:45I might be missing a few since the updates.
- 1:22:47San Diego State, New Mexico, UTEP, UL, Monroe, Indiana,
- 1:22:51Houston, Boise and Duke are still open.
- 1:22:54I don't think anybody else has gotten fired.
- 1:22:55If I've missed one, Pete, let me know.
- 1:22:58But Pete? Obviously we're going to focus
- 1:23:02on the Duke one, because the other ones, yeah, maybe they
- 1:23:05compoke somebody that you know was a good coordinator or a good
- 1:23:09position coach from the ACC, but Duke someone we're going to have
- 1:23:12to play. What are we hearing on the Duke
- 1:23:16front of what's going to happen? Because in most in our lifetime,
- 1:23:22Duke doesn't get back-to-back good head coaches.
- 1:23:26They had Spurrier in the late 80s.
- 1:23:28And then it legitimately took to cut Cliff in the mid 2000s
- 1:23:32before they had another decent coach.
- 1:23:35Yeah, and you know, Cutcliffe worked himself into a position
- 1:23:38where he did the Frank Beamer. He became a victim of his own
- 1:23:42expectations and obviously he got a little longer in the
- 1:23:44tooth, but he deserved a chance to walk away.
- 1:23:47When he wanted to, he more or less did.
- 1:23:50And they go out and they hire Mike Elko, someone a lot of us
- 1:23:53hokey fans have talked a lot about over the past two years
- 1:23:56due to the performance of Duke and how well they've played.
- 1:24:00Mainly because they've had a fantastic quarterback.
- 1:24:03Once they lost Riley Leonard. This year that Duke team became
- 1:24:07very beatable. And so you can see that the
- 1:24:09power of a starting quarterback. But Elko did a fantastic job
- 1:24:13there. And it's not just Elko.
- 1:24:15Duke, over the past two to three years, has made a real
- 1:24:19investment in football. They had a ton of staffers right
- 1:24:24up there with us, right up there with Pitt, with all the teams
- 1:24:27that are starting to staff up in the ACC.
- 1:24:30Clemson has obviously been doing it for a long time.
- 1:24:33They were one of them. And that's why you've seen some
- 1:24:36of the results you've seen from Duke over the past 2345 and back
- 1:24:40into 2013 when they really burst on the scene by beating us.
- 1:24:44But if you go to their coaching candidates and who it could be,
- 1:24:48it really depends on where they want to go right now, because
- 1:24:51they just did the OK, we'll hire a guy who might look for greener
- 1:24:55pastures in a year or two. So now do you do the thing where
- 1:24:59you go after a Willie Fritz or an older coach where, OK, you
- 1:25:04get them and you want this to be their retirement spot where like
- 1:25:07they can win you 6 to 8 to 9 games a year, whatever it might
- 1:25:11be you, you buck up and you might win 10 once in a while.
- 1:25:15But like, you know, the guy's not going anywhere.
- 1:25:18That's kind of what we did with Mike Young, right?
- 1:25:20We we, he, he was been at Wofford forever.
- 1:25:23He's from our region. He's probably not going
- 1:25:25anywhere, even if he does really, really well.
- 1:25:27Will they go for something like that or will they go after a
- 1:25:30Tommy Reese, a young hotshot coordinator type.
- 1:25:34I think Sean Lewis might have just got hired.
- 1:25:37Who? San Diego State, like literally
- 1:25:39just hired someone if you. Want.
- 1:25:41Oh, OK, Well, I saw Sean Lewis's name.
- 1:25:43I'll look that up while you keep.
- 1:25:44Yeah, but that that was a guy who I think he coached at Kent
- 1:25:47State. He ends up with Dion, Dion,
- 1:25:50demotes him and whatever. But do they go the young
- 1:25:53coordinator route or do they go the more, you know, Dave Clawson
- 1:25:57ish route? Not that they're going to go
- 1:25:58after Clawson himself, but you know what I'm saying?
- 1:26:01I don't know, but I know the investment with Duke football is
- 1:26:04there and we're never going to know the salary because of FOIA.
- 1:26:08They don't have to deal with that.
- 1:26:09So I'm not sure, but those are just a couple of names that come
- 1:26:14to mind as Fritz and Reese and and maybe a Sean Lewis type,
- 1:26:17even if it's not going to be him.
- 1:26:20All righty, Y'all, got any questions or anything I want to
- 1:26:22say about? And by the way, you are 100%
- 1:26:25right, It broke with the local San Diego station 22 minutes
- 1:26:29ago. Sean Lewis is going to be the
- 1:26:31next head coach of the San Diego State Aztecs.
- 1:26:34A pretty, pretty solid. That's a good pull for them.
- 1:26:37And yeah, it is. And that's a good program like
- 1:26:39they they've been, you know? They've been good for years.
- 1:26:42Rocky, long. It's like bringing in bracks.
- 1:26:43Blurmeister. That's a good yeah.
- 1:26:45Rocky Long, man. I love Rocky Long, Yeah.
- 1:26:47All right boys, y'all got any questions on about some of
- 1:26:50these? Opening ones for Pete right now
- 1:26:52are y'all pretty good. I've been hearing some, some
- 1:26:55smoke about Kingsbury going to Houston, going back.
- 1:26:59I've heard anything about that. Yeah.
- 1:27:02Yeah, Houston is one of those jobs that, like in the new Big
- 1:27:0512, when you get into next year and you're thinking about who
- 1:27:09could win that conference. Well, with Texas and Oklahoma
- 1:27:12gone and some of those PAC 12 schools coming in, anyone could
- 1:27:16win that conference. It depends on.
- 1:27:20I don't know how well Dana Holgerson has built that program
- 1:27:24out. Despite his name, I don't think
- 1:27:27Holgo is the best coach. I don't think he's been
- 1:27:29recruiting at a super high level.
- 1:27:31So Houston, it might take a bit for Houston to get back up, but
- 1:27:36like once, if they get the right coach, Houston could be in
- 1:27:40competition to win that conference every year because
- 1:27:42there is no, there's no blue blood there.
- 1:27:45Like, TCU is probably the closest thing you have to like a
- 1:27:50powerhouse in that conference. Yeah, I'm yeah, OK, you're
- 1:27:53right. And sometimes I forget about the
- 1:27:55teams that are even coming in. But yes, Utah could run that
- 1:27:58thing. They could run that thing in
- 1:28:00over the next 10 years. So.
- 1:28:01But Houston's got as good a chance as any in that in that
- 1:28:05conference to compete. I don't think Cliff is the guy
- 1:28:09to help you compete. I I mean, he, he wasn't good at
- 1:28:12Texas Tech. He wasn't good in the NFL.
- 1:28:14So now he's going to be good. Like I I don't think so.
- 1:28:17Ron, you got any you want to discuss?
- 1:28:20You know that that's really the most interesting one in my
- 1:28:22opinion outside of Duke, which obviously directs us, affects us
- 1:28:26directly. It's going to be interesting to
- 1:28:30see what they do at that at that spot because like Pete alluded
- 1:28:35to like they could really kind of make that that that home for
- 1:28:39them if they if they do well, they could kind of turn that
- 1:28:42into a powerhouse in that conference.
- 1:28:45They've got money they they're in Texas like they there's
- 1:28:48there's advantages there and I mean of course you know
- 1:28:52Arizona's had a good year. Arizona State it always seems
- 1:28:55like a sleeping giant. Like they might be able to to
- 1:28:58pop up and be good, but like Texas, it's all about football
- 1:29:02in Texas and and Houston's right there.
- 1:29:05Arizona State always seems to get like, get good players, but
- 1:29:08they. Struggle to put it together for
- 1:29:10any sustained period of time, but they'll always have that
- 1:29:13like one year here or there where they'll pop and get like
- 1:29:15nine or ten wins. They had Jaden Daniels.
- 1:29:20They did. Hey, here's the question I've
- 1:29:22got with these openings because obviously there's going to be a
- 1:29:25significant amount of money attached to the job because
- 1:29:27they're in the Big 10. Who is going?
- 1:29:29Who is willing to put their neck out to take Indiana over?
- 1:29:33Yeah, that Indiana is another one of those really tough spots
- 1:29:38to win. I would liken it to a Syracuse
- 1:29:40where there's not a lot of historical success, but you've
- 1:29:45got a Big 10 paycheck. And if your university decides
- 1:29:49to make the focus, like they put a lot of money behind Tom Allen
- 1:29:53that that buyout, it's like one of the highest ever in college
- 1:29:57football to buy Tom Allen out. And he, he benefited from that
- 1:30:01COVID season, which was super weird and they had a they had a
- 1:30:04good year. But Indiana, it's it's a getting
- 1:30:09rid of the divisions is good for them because they're no longer
- 1:30:12in the East having to play all three of those powerhouses every
- 1:30:15year. But you're also adding Oregon
- 1:30:17and UCLA. So, like, no, Indiana has an
- 1:30:20uphill battle to be good. Oh, and and UW and Oregon.
- 1:30:24Sorry, yes, y'all. Are going to talk, Y'all are
- 1:30:26going to talk about Colorado. They're they're into the Big 12
- 1:30:30and you're right. So we should have mentioned
- 1:30:32that. We should have been mentioned
- 1:30:33that when we talked about the Big 12 because just like
- 1:30:35Houston, Colorado's, if Dion can do what some people think Dion's
- 1:30:39going to do, they could, they could be competing for titles in
- 1:30:43that conference too. But as far as the Big 10 goes,
- 1:30:46Indiana, you'll you'll get paid and you will have opportunity.
- 1:30:51I mean, Notre Dame, it's Notre Dame.
- 1:30:53They've got the historical success.
- 1:30:54It's the same state. You can't recruit like Notre
- 1:30:57Dame. You got to find someone who can
- 1:31:00build. So do you turn to a Tommy Reese
- 1:31:03there? Because that's another name at
- 1:31:05another position where like maybe you go to him.
- 1:31:07He knows the state, he knows he knows offense.
- 1:31:11Maybe you want to score some points in Indiana, do things a
- 1:31:13little bit differently. You're probably going to have to
- 1:31:15do things a little bit differently.
- 1:31:16Yeah, I mean really in terms of pecking order, they're like
- 1:31:20they're at least third of the pecking order in their own
- 1:31:22state. Because I mean Purdue has a
- 1:31:25whole lot more history of football and success and
- 1:31:28recruiting successes than than Indiana has ever had.
- 1:31:31So they they are at least third on the pecking order from a
- 1:31:34recruiting. It's an uphill battle, man.
- 1:31:36It's a super uphill battle for for Indiana.
- 1:31:39What'd you have, Tally? You about to say something.
- 1:31:42Say Indiana had appendix, right? They did.
- 1:31:45They did. That was, that was how Tom got
- 1:31:48Tom Allen got that extension. Oh, man.
- 1:31:52All right, let's go to the guys who have already been hired and
- 1:31:54obviously now we've got Sean Lewis.
- 1:31:56And you kind of made your point that you'd like that hire out of
- 1:31:58San Diego State. But the other four guys between
- 1:32:02Elko going to A&M, Jeff Levy, the Oklahoma OC heading down to
- 1:32:05Mississippi State, By the way, I've told a lot of people.
- 1:32:09They're hiring an offensive guy in Mississippi State.
- 1:32:11It's just what they do. They've done it ever since they
- 1:32:13fired Sylvester crew in 15 years ago.
- 1:32:16Jonathan Smith going to Michigan State, sort of the the one that
- 1:32:19kind of hurt your soul a little bit.
- 1:32:21And today Fran Brown, the defensive back coats for
- 1:32:25Georgia. OK, I was going to say Foo going
- 1:32:31to Utah or New Mexico. But of those four, which one do
- 1:32:36you like the best, Pete? I love the Elko higher for Texas
- 1:32:41A and MI kind of ragged on Texas A and MA couple weeks back and
- 1:32:44just that like they have no historical success like a little
- 1:32:50bit here and there. Johnny Football though is what
- 1:32:52created this whole new momentum. Them going to the SEC combined
- 1:32:56with that gave them a whole new breath of life and investors and
- 1:33:00all this kind of stuff. But you go back, look at look at
- 1:33:04a team like Oregon and a team like Indiana or a team like
- 1:33:07Texas A&M. Sorry, got Indiana the brain.
- 1:33:10Oregon's had like 9 top ten finishes since 2000.
- 1:33:14You'd have to go back to the 50s to get that for A&M.
- 1:33:16They just have not had the success on the field.
- 1:33:20They might have more money and nil power than just about anyone
- 1:33:24else right now. And so with Elko going there, a
- 1:33:27guy who recruited some of those kids that are still in that
- 1:33:31building and some of those really good recruiting classes
- 1:33:33for A and MI think there's a little bit of continuity there.
- 1:33:37They know what they're getting with Elko.
- 1:33:40What's weird about the only thing that I find a little bit
- 1:33:42weird is that Elko is their second choice, right?
- 1:33:46Like they wanted Stoops. They got Elko and they're
- 1:33:50probably paying him for like a slight, slight discount of
- 1:33:53Stoops, but I still think it's a really good hire, so I'm a fan
- 1:33:56of that. I think Jonathan Smith actually
- 1:33:58going to Michigan State is perfect for Michigan State.
- 1:34:02Michigan State is the A&M of the Big 10.
- 1:34:06They got to compete with multiple big boys for recruits
- 1:34:09and in the standings, and this is a guy who can build.
- 1:34:14He did it at literally one of the four hardest places to win
- 1:34:17in P5 football. He won at Oregon State.
- 1:34:21I think he's going to go, he's going to build something special
- 1:34:23at Michigan State. So I think that's a really good
- 1:34:25one. The the Georgia one up at
- 1:34:27Syracuse. It could work out.
- 1:34:31You know how coaching hires go. We thought Foo was a home run
- 1:34:34when we hired him. That one's a a little strange
- 1:34:37because, like, he's known as a recruiter, but, like, are you
- 1:34:41out recruiting anyone at Syracuse?
- 1:34:43Like, like you have to be able to develop and have a system and
- 1:34:49we don't know what his system would because he's been an
- 1:34:51assistant. So like it that that one's a
- 1:34:54that one's a head scratcher for me because I thought like
- 1:34:56someone like Dan Mullen could have done well up there or
- 1:34:58something like that. But hey, what do I know?
- 1:35:01Yeah, Fran, Fran Brown's a big time dice roll for them.
- 1:35:04That could really, you know, if he puts the pieces together
- 1:35:07fast. That could go well for them, but
- 1:35:10I don't I still, I still don't think there's like you're still
- 1:35:13capping out at like a eight or nine win season at Syracuse,
- 1:35:16even if you do all the right things and make all the right
- 1:35:19moves. So you know, I don't know what
- 1:35:22that looks like and if it's worth that type of dice roll for
- 1:35:26still such a relatively low ceiling.
- 1:35:30I like the Elko higher. I think that's that's just a
- 1:35:33really good fit overall, you know you talked about.
- 1:35:37You know Jonathan Smith, I think that's that's a sneaky good one
- 1:35:40because as you said, they're kind of dealing with a very
- 1:35:43similar type makeup of being surrounded by two powers and and
- 1:35:49being able to recruit around that and develop better than
- 1:35:55those programs in order to have that type of success.
- 1:35:58So you got to do the Mark Dantonio like you.
- 1:36:01That's what Dantonio did. He hired good coordinators.
- 1:36:03It it was a very frank beamer, like good coordinators recruit
- 1:36:07the the footprint and find the the diamonds in the rough.
- 1:36:10That's what Dantonio did, and that's what Jonathan Smith's
- 1:36:13going to have to do. I'm going to say this, I I'm,
- 1:36:17I'm with you all that I think the Elko is the best hire.
- 1:36:19Because Elko also goes back to the roots of what A&M is.
- 1:36:22If you look at the best coaches they ever had, there's three of
- 1:36:25them. There's Bear, Brown, obviously
- 1:36:27in the 50s. There's Jackie.
- 1:36:30Cheryl, Go look up. Jackie.
- 1:36:31Cheryl. Jackie.
- 1:36:32Cheryl was a hell of a coach, hell of a defensive coordinator.
- 1:36:35At Pitt and then a head coach at Pitt and then RC Slocum in the
- 1:36:3890s with the wrecking crew defense.
- 1:36:40RC Slocum was a 70, was a 700 win percentage got when he was
- 1:36:45there and it was based on defense.
- 1:36:47Elko and here's what I think Elko is going into being there
- 1:36:51as that defensive coordinator for several years.
- 1:36:53He knows how fucking crazy they are.
- 1:36:56He knows it already. I don't think Jimbo knew it.
- 1:36:58I think Jimbo oh, they're a lot like Florida State.
- 1:37:00They they they've got some high crazy fans though.
- 1:37:02He went in there and was like. What the fuck is this like?
- 1:37:06These people are stupid and I think being there is going to
- 1:37:09give him that base. But I think also being he is a
- 1:37:12football coach and sometimes places like that just need a
- 1:37:16football coach. I'm not trying to come out here
- 1:37:18and be the greatest on the PA. We're going to go fucking win
- 1:37:21football games. That's all I care about.
- 1:37:24And I'm also glad he's not a Duke anymore.
- 1:37:27Honestly, because because you know what, he ain't going to be
- 1:37:31looking for the same portal guys we're looking at this year like
- 1:37:33he did the last few years. So there that is.
- 1:37:36Tally, anybody got anything else on any of these coaching,
- 1:37:39anything Pete you want to add additional to some of the stuff?
- 1:37:43One comment on that the Duke thing since they're in our
- 1:37:46conference you said what are the odds they hire two good coaches
- 1:37:49in a row? They had Cutcliff, They had
- 1:37:51Elko. What are the odds they hire a
- 1:37:53third good coach in a row? Minuscule.
- 1:37:55Let's. Hope it's 0.
- 1:37:57Let's hope it's low. Let's hope it's very low.
- 1:37:59And and maybe this move, you know, gives us the very I know
- 1:38:03we already had the inside track, but a inside track for a certain
- 1:38:07offensive lineman from Christiansburg, so.
- 1:38:10That's all I'll say with that. All right, all righty.
- 1:38:13So we are now going to be flipping to the big Screener
- 1:38:16segment and but we don't have to pick any games this week because
- 1:38:20we are going to run through the gamut that is Championship
- 1:38:23Fridays and Saturday with Pete here.
- 1:38:26And it's always the big Screener segment is presented by Prize
- 1:38:29Picks Daily fantasy app where you make entries based on player
- 1:38:33projected outcomes. This week, Y'all need to jump on
- 1:38:36this. They got bow Knicks.
- 1:38:38The over under is 10 1/2 rushing yards.
- 1:38:41Book that 10 1/2. He is definitely going to
- 1:38:43scramble probably for at least 30 to 40.
- 1:38:46Blake quorum against Iowa, take the under.
- 1:38:49I think quorum gets to 80. I still think they're going to
- 1:38:51win it, but that's my two play right there.
- 1:38:56Prospects will match up any deposit up to 100 bucks.
- 1:38:58When you sign up using the code BC picks.
- 1:39:01Bring it up real quick, Brian. The QR code.
- 1:39:05The QR code right there. Use that.
- 1:39:09Let's take that off the screen and.
- 1:39:12Let's go. Let's go ahead and add this on
- 1:39:13there this. Just dropped as we were
- 1:39:16starting. That's right.
- 1:39:22I mean, that's right. Yeah.
- 1:39:26Well, does does it surprise you that that Michigan doesn't jump
- 1:39:30to 1? A little bit, actually.
- 1:39:35Yeah. I thought they, I thought for
- 1:39:36sure they would be 1. Well, so they were three last
- 1:39:40week though, right? They were.
- 1:39:43But they beat the number 2. And they did and they were
- 1:39:46undefeated. So I just, I just I I thought
- 1:39:48since the Ohio State win with all of them over.
- 1:39:50But then you look at the, if you look at the rankings, you know
- 1:39:53you've got Ole Miss at #11 and you've got who's the other one
- 1:39:59for? For Georgia, Mizzou at #9, like
- 1:40:02they've got two top eleven wins and so.
- 1:40:05I guess that's what. And if you go a little bit
- 1:40:06further too, like they beat Tennessee, was that number 21,
- 1:40:09which I'm actually surprised, Tennessee?
- 1:40:10'S in the range. All right, you you ready for it?
- 1:40:12Tally's going to tell you why they got this tally.
- 1:40:15You know the reason why? Look, who's the number 8?
- 1:40:17What if #8? Yeah, they won't.
- 1:40:20I mean, they're anticipating them playing Alabama.
- 1:40:23That gets what it is. So that's why Georgia's at #1,
- 1:40:26because they're going to play Alabama this weekend.
- 1:40:28So. And if they lose to Alabama,
- 1:40:31well, Alabama just beat the number one team in the country.
- 1:40:33We have to put them in the playoff.
- 1:40:35Oh yeah, you know what? That.
- 1:40:37But this is this is great. But how do you put Alabama in
- 1:40:39over Texas in Texas, beat Alabama.
- 1:40:41There you. Go well.
- 1:40:43Like, that's the thing about this.
- 1:40:45This Oregon and Texas thing is fascinating because they they
- 1:40:49are showing you what they're thinking right now because they
- 1:40:52put Ohio State between Oregon and Texas for a reason.
- 1:40:57If Oregon wins, they are in. There is no debate.
- 1:41:00They've been ahead of Texas and every playoff ranking that's
- 1:41:04come out this year. Oregon wins, they're in,
- 1:41:07Washington wins, They're in. That is, that is it.
- 1:41:10The team that loses is out. And the fact that Florida State
- 1:41:13is still at #4, I think I know they're undefeated, but that
- 1:41:17means we know that they win and they're in.
- 1:41:19Like, I I don't. I don't want to hear any
- 1:41:21otherwise that's that's just not how it's going to go.
- 1:41:24The trickiest thing, and I'm sorry, I'm running with this
- 1:41:27real quick. The trickiest thing that could
- 1:41:30happen is Bama beating Georgia, because that would set
- 1:41:34everything into absolute chaos, because you can't put Georgia in
- 1:41:38if they're not the conference champion in my eye, because
- 1:41:40you're going to have an undefeated Michigan.
- 1:41:42Michigan's going undefeated. They're not losing Iowa.
- 1:41:44No, they're not Florida State loses that.
- 1:41:47You know they're going to be out there not getting in.
- 1:41:50And then you'll have the debate. The way you can get two SEC
- 1:41:53teams in potentially. Is Florida State losing and
- 1:41:56Alabama winning. But just by Georgia losing alone
- 1:42:00and Michigan winning and Washington or Oregon winning, it
- 1:42:04creates a debate of like, do you put Texas in, do you put, you
- 1:42:08know, undefeated Florida State in?
- 1:42:10Do you put Oregon in? You have to decide between those
- 1:42:13three teams. And I would be so fascinated as
- 1:42:16to how the committee would go because I think they would put
- 1:42:18Oregon in over Texas, even if, which which means guys, there
- 1:42:23would be no SEC team in there. I know I kind of went in a
- 1:42:25circle, but think about that. If Bama beats Georgia, it
- 1:42:30threatens the chances of the SEC getting into the playoff.
- 1:42:33It does. It does.
- 1:42:35But and and the the big thing there is that you got that like
- 1:42:39Texas firewall, 'cause if if Texas wins that that really
- 1:42:43puts. It's hard to make a case to put
- 1:42:46Bama in over Texas if Texas. Can't do it.
- 1:42:49You can't. And yes, Billy Ray, you're out
- 1:42:51there tonight. You cannot put Alabama in
- 1:42:53because if head to head if a head to head game in the winter
- 1:42:56has the exact same record as the other team.
- 1:43:00You then Then why do we play the games?
- 1:43:03Yes, we don't need to play the games anymore.
- 1:43:05We can just. Well, that team's better because
- 1:43:06they're better on paper and they've had better wins and
- 1:43:09they've looked different. I don't care that they got on
- 1:43:12the field. There there's there's too few
- 1:43:14data points to kenpong this shit.
- 1:43:17Like at some point the games on the on the field have to matter.
- 1:43:22Yes, you're right, you in. In basketball, you ignore head
- 1:43:25to head when going to tournament one because there's so many
- 1:43:27spots, but two, because there's so many games here, you can't
- 1:43:30ignore it. And for those that say, OK, Bama
- 1:43:33beats Georgia, Bama will get in, Texas will get in and you'll
- 1:43:38have. Michigan.
- 1:43:40Yeah, you'll have Michigan. The The problem is Oregon has
- 1:43:45been in front of Texas. They're going to, if they beat
- 1:43:48an undefeated team or if that undefeated team wins in
- 1:43:50Washington, either one of those teams is getting in.
- 1:43:53They're not going to jump. Texas is not going to jump.
- 1:43:56Oregon by beating Oklahoma State?
- 1:43:58It's not going to happen. Their only their only chance was
- 1:44:01if Oklahoma got in and then they could legitimately say we beat
- 1:44:05every team on our schedule. And unfortunately, with
- 1:44:09Oklahoma, Okie State pulling that miracle against BYU because
- 1:44:12they shouldn't have won that game that first half, I was
- 1:44:15keeping an eye on it, that they shouldn't have won that game.
- 1:44:17All right, well, let's get to it.
- 1:44:18Let's get to all these games. Let's start Friday night.
- 1:44:22Let's start Conference USA, New Mexico State versus Liberty.
- 1:44:26Pete, give us a quick background on this one and then we'll go
- 1:44:29through the picks. We'll start.
- 1:44:31Brian's going to start the picks on this one and we'll go left to
- 1:44:33right. But Pete, quick background on
- 1:44:34this game and just some Well, we we got a team that's claiming to
- 1:44:38be the first undefeated regular season team in Virginia and
- 1:44:41Liberty, you know, which was a bunch of BS and I couldn't
- 1:44:44believe that that came across my timeline today.
- 1:44:46But Liberty is 12 and O. They are 10 point favorites
- 1:44:49against New Mexicans, New Mexico State who is coached by Jerry
- 1:44:52Kill. A guy we had in our building, a
- 1:44:55guy we we love and Jamie Chadwell's on the other side,
- 1:44:59Another fantastic coach. These teams played Liberty's
- 1:45:03best win, if you go to the Kali matrix on the year is New Mexico
- 1:45:07State earlier this year, 33 to 17.
- 1:45:10And you know why? Because Liberty played literally
- 1:45:12the easiest schedule in the country #133.
- 1:45:17So with a 10 point spread, I'm taking the fighting.
- 1:45:20Jerry Kills. I'm taking New Mexico State
- 1:45:22because they have played very, very well.
- 1:45:25Do you know who they just beat last weekend, boys?
- 1:45:29That's great about. 3 touchdowns it.
- 1:45:32Would it was unbelievable. I'm taking New Mexico State plus
- 1:45:3510. You know what's crazy?
- 1:45:37I'm going to say this right quick.
- 1:45:38I know we got to get through this but.
- 1:45:40Me being here in Alabama and I see the the rivalry games when
- 1:45:45we talk about the Commonwealth Cup, Commonwealth Cup and Iron
- 1:45:48Ball and things like that. It is crazy that Auburn brought
- 1:45:52New Mexico State to their home and got beat by three thirds and
- 1:45:56then and then played Alabama the next week and should have beat
- 1:46:00Alabama because that rivalry means that much to them.
- 1:46:04It doesn't matter if their records are one in 10 or what.
- 1:46:09That is a true rivalry. What we do with UVA is is a Big
- 1:46:13Brother, little brother. That's what I almost said.
- 1:46:16Let's go back to. That's what it is.
- 1:46:17Now get Dwight in here and have him talking.
- 1:46:19All right, Brian, let's roll through.
- 1:46:20We got Pete's pick already. We'll see it at the end.
- 1:46:23Brian, who you got on this one? Give me the fight and Jerry
- 1:46:26kills, man. I'm with you.
- 1:46:28Give me the points. I think New Mexico State ends
- 1:46:32their season. I think they win.
- 1:46:34I think, I think investigate wins and I think because Jerry
- 1:46:37kills a good enough coach and. You said 3317.
- 1:46:41That's a that's a two touchdown games are always a little bit
- 1:46:44funky because you know. It's early in the season, too.
- 1:46:47Early in the season, tally who you got.
- 1:46:49I'm. Going to take liberty.
- 1:46:50I know it's hard for a team to beat, know it's hard for a team
- 1:46:53to beat A-Team twice, but I think they're going to do it.
- 1:46:55All right, who'd Shelton roll on this one?
- 1:46:57Shelton's going to Mexico State here and obviously we got, he's
- 1:47:01got New Mexico State as well. All righty.
- 1:47:03Let's go Friday night. PAC 12 in Las Vegas, by the way.
- 1:47:07Would y'all be opposed if we pulled the ACC championship to
- 1:47:10Las Vegas once Stanford and everybody joined?
- 1:47:12Not for one year. I would love it all.
- 1:47:15Right, just making sure. All right, Pete, what we got on
- 1:47:17this one? We got Washington, Oregon,
- 1:47:19Oregon. A 9 1/2 point favorite against
- 1:47:21an undefeated Washington. Yeah, the line is wild and and
- 1:47:25part of that has to be because of the close games Washington
- 1:47:27has been playing ever since they beat Oregon.
- 1:47:30They almost lost to Arizona or Arizona State the very next week
- 1:47:35and they went to overtime with Arizona I believe.
- 1:47:37So Pennix doesn't look quite right.
- 1:47:40They they played a good end of that game against Washington
- 1:47:43State to survive. But a few weeks back I said
- 1:47:46Oregon was my best team in the country.
- 1:47:49Power rankings, my own personal eye test and stat.
- 1:47:51Looking up I went with Oregon as my best team in the country.
- 1:47:54I'm not wavering from that. However, that game was super
- 1:47:59close last time and Washington won on their own turf.
- 1:48:02I think Washington is good enough to keep it within the 9
- 1:48:051/2. I like Oregon to win.
- 1:48:07Washington cover. Oregon win.
- 1:48:09Washington cover. All righty, Sheldon was back.
- 1:48:14Sheldon was right there with you.
- 1:48:16Same mindset. I think looking at at what he
- 1:48:21was saying earlier he you know, it's it's just the that that 9
- 1:48:251/2 is a little too much even on a neutral field.
- 1:48:29OK, so. Tell it who you got.
- 1:48:32I'm going to Oregon, man. I think that the refs in the
- 1:48:36country wants Bo Dick, Bo, Bo Nicks.
- 1:48:41Bo who? Bo.
- 1:48:43Bo Dicks. Yeah, they definitely.
- 1:48:47They want him to be the Heisman. I mean, they have been raving
- 1:48:51about Bo Nicks. So if it's an opportunity for
- 1:48:54Oregon to win and Oregon to win big, this is going to be his
- 1:48:57Heisman moment and the line stinks and Tally's diving into
- 1:49:01the stink. Fatally, Fatally.
- 1:49:06You see he and I'm not saying that to be mean because Tally
- 1:49:09said it a bunch of times during the.
- 1:49:10Course. Oh yeah, No, no, no.
- 1:49:11You do not put money on what I'm telling you.
- 1:49:15It does not work out, is it? All righty here.
- 1:49:18This is not gambling advice. I think 9 1/2 is just too big
- 1:49:23because like you said Pete, that first game literally was a down
- 1:49:27to the end. I'll I've watched the end of it
- 1:49:29here probably. Were you over for that game?
- 1:49:33Why did I feel like you came over for that game?
- 1:49:35Maybe. Regardless, maybe you did.
- 1:49:37But I will say this, Curtis, I know you're going to make your
- 1:49:39pick, but I will say this. Y'all need to think.
- 1:49:43They they lost that game because of coaching.
- 1:49:45They didn't know it's true. There were some court down calls
- 1:49:49in that game that were. Screwed up, Yeah, there.
- 1:49:51Was a lot of calls in that game. So anyway, go ahead.
- 1:49:55Kurt Well, I don't think Washington wins.
- 1:49:56I think this is where we start to see a little of the the CFP
- 1:50:00playoff chaos. I think Washington's good
- 1:50:03enough, like with UPI think they're good enough to keep it
- 1:50:06within 9 1/2. It's probably a touchdown win
- 1:50:09for Oregon, so I'm going Washington.
- 1:50:13When Spread Oregon Takes it money line Ziegler.
- 1:50:18I'm right there with everybody here on the panel except for
- 1:50:20Tally. Wow, pretty.
- 1:50:25Good. You know what he's doing.
- 1:50:27What he's supposed to? Do you know when when I look at
- 1:50:32it, the line is just a little, little, little funky for me,
- 1:50:36that's a little too much to lay. You know, I think it like Curtis
- 1:50:39said, it's going to be about a 76 point.
- 1:50:43Oregon victory. But that 9 1/2 is just too much
- 1:50:45for my blood. So much.
- 1:50:47And this is de facto playoff game because winner is going to
- 1:50:50the playoff. Yeah, yeah, there's really,
- 1:50:54there's no drama here in in terms of the playoff.
- 1:50:56It doesn't really shake anything up, except maybe the seating.
- 1:51:00The winner of this is is is a playoff team.
- 1:51:02All righty. Here's what we got next.
- 1:51:05We've got the Mack matching. I wish they would do.
- 1:51:08I wish they would do this game on a Wednesday night.
- 1:51:10Honest to God I wish they would. But we've got Miami of Ohio and
- 1:51:15Toledo Y'all these are actually two good teams.
- 1:51:17Miami of Ohio 10 and two. Toledo 11 and one.
- 1:51:21I didn't realize that as y'all see we got a line of 7 1/2
- 1:51:26Toledo favorite Pete. What are we seeing on this game?
- 1:51:29And is Jason Candle a candidate anywhere from for for head
- 1:51:33coaching Guy? You know I feel like Jason
- 1:51:35Candle has been a candidate for about seven years and and Toledo
- 1:51:41in the Mack is at resources and facilities advantage.
- 1:51:45They always seem to be one of the best three teams in the Mack
- 1:51:50and it's for good reason they they put the investment into
- 1:51:52football. Toledo 11 straight wins.
- 1:51:56Their only loss was the first game of the season to Illinois.
- 1:52:01They both played absolutely terrible schedules.
- 1:52:03So like Toledo, we talked about Liberty schedule.
- 1:52:06I think Toledo has like the second easiest schedule in the
- 1:52:09country. But they did beat San Jose
- 1:52:11State, who some people think should be in the Mountain West.
- 1:52:14We'll get there, but that was a good quality win.
- 1:52:19They're coming in Hot 7 1/2. I'm going to take Daquan Finn,
- 1:52:24Pat's brother, and I think they're going to get, they're
- 1:52:27going to get the win and cover Toledo.
- 1:52:30I'm taking he. Takes Toledo.
- 1:52:32Brian, what about you? Yeah, I, I, I'm riding the
- 1:52:37Toledo Rockets here, baby. Let's go.
- 1:52:40All righty. I I'm going to.
- 1:52:41Ride the Toledo Rocket. It's better to ride in the Red
- 1:52:43Rocket. I won't take Toledo as well.
- 1:52:46First game was a four point game.
- 1:52:48I think Toledo is the better team overall and I think they, I
- 1:52:52think they win the game going away.
- 1:52:53I think it's going to be not going to be as close, but you
- 1:52:58know, what do I know, Tally? I'm going to take Toledo on this
- 1:53:02and you know I want to get on Y'all's team.
- 1:53:04Y'all seem to pick a little bit better than me.
- 1:53:06Toledo has a good running back. I think that running back's got
- 1:53:08about 1400 yards. He's averaging like 8 yards a
- 1:53:11carry, maybe like 15 touchdowns. So I'm going to go, I'm going to
- 1:53:15go with Toledo on this, just because I've watched him play
- 1:53:17and he looks good. Toledo's across the board, which
- 1:53:20means Miami's going to win out, right?
- 1:53:23Did did Shelton go with us? Oh yeah, everybody's riding
- 1:53:26Toledo. Toledo We were riding the rock.
- 1:53:28To the moon, baby. To the moon.
- 1:53:30High noon. All right, let's flip it.
- 1:53:32Next, let's go to the Big 12. We already hit on this a little
- 1:53:34bit. Beat Texas laying 14 1/2 in Okie
- 1:53:37State. And then again, in my opinion,
- 1:53:39Okie State shouldn't beat BYU. Last week I watched that game.
- 1:53:42They really shouldn't have. But what are we looking at here
- 1:53:45Pete? You got a nine and three, OK?
- 1:53:47State team that is only lost in the last eight games was that
- 1:53:51beat down at the hands of UCF in the let down spot after the
- 1:53:55Oklahoma game. So I'll forgive them a bit for
- 1:53:58going to Florida after Oklahoma and getting beat in the rain.
- 1:54:01But as you saw last week against BYU, that team does not give up
- 1:54:06easily. They Ollie Gordon has been a
- 1:54:08revelation for them ever since that 19 yard game against South
- 1:54:12Alabama. I I don't know what got into OK
- 1:54:15State. Gundy found a way and I'm going
- 1:54:18to take them to cover that 12 points.
- 1:54:21All right. He's got them covering.
- 1:54:24What's Shelton? Got Shelton is riding with OSU
- 1:54:28as well. Tally, what you got?
- 1:54:32I called Pete before the show and I called Shelton before the
- 1:54:35show and they are very smart, so I just picked what they picked.
- 1:54:40All righty. So I must be the idiot over
- 1:54:41here, then, because I think Texas knows it has to make a
- 1:54:45statement. Pete, you you've said it three
- 1:54:46or four times. Really.
- 1:54:48I said that. I thought you did.
- 1:54:53Did you? Where I got it wrong?
- 1:54:54Did. I get it wrong.
- 1:54:55I don't know. Shit.
- 1:54:57I don't know. What do you like about Texas
- 1:55:02though, Brian Curtis? Finish your thought.
- 1:55:04Because no one here and just saying it's more of the spot
- 1:55:07they're in, I think Texas knows they have to put an ungodly beat
- 1:55:11down on Okie State because you keep saying they can't jump
- 1:55:14Oregon. I have a question.
- 1:55:15They go out there and beat Okie State by 5 touchdowns 40. 4914
- 1:55:22and then you look at their resume.
- 1:55:23Well, the only team they lost to was A10 win Oklahoma team.
- 1:55:26They went to Tuscaloosa. They handled Alabama with these.
- 1:55:29Why shouldn't we put this team in the playoff?
- 1:55:32Yeah, And. And that's that's a good
- 1:55:34argument. And you know what?
- 1:55:36They tried to make that statement last week against
- 1:55:38Texas Tech. When?
- 1:55:39They oh, they did make sense. But you know what?
- 1:55:42It didn't work because they're still six, behind Ohio State and
- 1:55:47and Oregon. Let me tell you how they're
- 1:55:48going to get in. If Alabama beats Georgia,
- 1:55:51they're going to throw Texas in because they need the big name
- 1:55:55That and that's that's correct. That is Texas's avenue to get
- 1:55:59into the playoff is they need Bama to win that.
- 1:56:02They could beat Oklahoma State by 60 points.
- 1:56:05They're not getting in unless Bama beats Georgia.
- 1:56:07There you go. Good point, Brian.
- 1:56:12I did. Confirm that you sent OS.
- 1:56:14UI did send OSU, but I don't know that I was trying to do
- 1:56:17this quickly today. So.
- 1:56:20You know what? That's all right.
- 1:56:22I like Texas to win this, but 14 1/2 is a little funky for me, so
- 1:56:26I'm going to OSU here. All righty, We're going to go
- 1:56:29out to the Mountain West next again, we're going in
- 1:56:32subsequential order. So the the, the way you see
- 1:56:34these games, the way they're coming out, I believe this is on
- 1:56:37CBS Sports Network and it's going to be like a three, three
- 1:56:40or 4:00 kick. Pete, you got a little
- 1:56:42interesting behind this one about maybe one of these teams
- 1:56:46shouldn't be here. Well, the Mountain West decides
- 1:56:51when there's a tie in the standings.
- 1:56:52They decide who goes to the championship game by computer
- 1:56:55rankings using one of the computer rankings.
- 1:56:57I like the best in the Collie matrix and they decided that
- 1:57:01Boise State and UNLV should should go at it and UNLV just
- 1:57:05lost to San Jose State. And yet they are.
- 1:57:09They are the ones that are in because they have a better
- 1:57:12overall record at 9:00 and 3:00, Boise State at 7:00 and 5:00.
- 1:57:15A-Team that fired their coach is also in.
- 1:57:19Think about that. If I hired their coach mid
- 1:57:21season and they are in the championship game and guess what
- 1:57:24I like them to win outright. Like, yeah, I'll take them
- 1:57:27against. I'll.
- 1:57:28Well, actually they're favored. They're, they're two point
- 1:57:30favorites, right. So I'll take Boise to lay the
- 1:57:33points with Boise. But what a season for.
- 1:57:35I do want to mention Barry Odom and UNLV because that program
- 1:57:39has been in the dumps for a long time and Perry Onum as a
- 1:57:42straight up good coach there was.
- 1:57:44There's that one point where we thought we might get him as our
- 1:57:46defensive coordinator. I think it didn't quite happen
- 1:57:50that way, but UNLV had not won nine games since 1984 and so
- 1:57:57good, good for UNLV. It's going to be a fun game.
- 1:58:01I think Boise State gets the win though.
- 1:58:05All righty, Pete's got Boise State on this one, Brian, who do
- 1:58:08you got? I'm going to preface this with I
- 1:58:12think that we should be seeing another team in here as Pete
- 1:58:17alluded to, but shout out to DJ Harvey out there in San Jose
- 1:58:22State. Yeah, so, but since that's not
- 1:58:27what we got, I'm going to UNLV here.
- 1:58:29I think. I think Barry Odom is going to
- 1:58:30get them up for this game. I think they aren't the best
- 1:58:34team on paper, but I think that they're going to.
- 1:58:37Play play above their skis a little bit and and and pull off
- 1:58:41a victory here against Boise. I'm with you.
- 1:58:44Give me the Give me that little two.
- 1:58:45I'll take UNLV as well. And all the old food crew out
- 1:58:49there, and you know Odom and Vance Vice and who else is out
- 1:58:53there. There's there's a few other ones
- 1:58:55out there right from the Shotbusters out there.
- 1:58:58Is he really? Shotbusters.
- 1:59:00A special teams coordinator out there.
- 1:59:01So yeah, some of the old, some of the old Tech coaches who you
- 1:59:06got Tally? Because they got old tech
- 1:59:09coaches out there. I did not pick them.
- 1:59:13Boise State Boise State Later 2 Shelton.
- 1:59:17Says Shelton, Says Boise. Shelton says Boise.
- 1:59:23And we got Pete saying Boise. All right, next one.
- 1:59:26Let's go to Atlanta 430 kick Georgia, Alabama, Georgia.
- 1:59:31The -6 favorite here. My one of my old bosses saw her
- 1:59:37today at work. She's a huge Georgia fan.
- 1:59:39She's heading down to Atlanta to watch the game this weekend.
- 1:59:43So what do we got here on this one, Pete, That if you know
- 1:59:49there, there's a couple key things about this.
- 1:59:50So these teams have obviously been the two best teams in the
- 1:59:53SEC over the past decade, yet they have not matched up a ton
- 1:59:59of times in the championship game and in Georgia's recent
- 2:00:02success. They have yet to beat Alabama in
- 2:00:04this game. In fact, they've never beaten
- 2:00:06Alabama in this game. Since the SE CS inception in
- 2:00:091992, Georgia has four titles. It's Arkansas, it's LSU.
- 2:00:13It's Auburn, and it's LSU again. Can Georgia beat Bama for the
- 2:00:18SEC title? I think they should and they
- 2:00:24will win. But I like the six points.
- 2:00:27I I think Will Millroe can do enough.
- 2:00:29I think he's developed enough for them to be competitive and
- 2:00:33that Bama defense is for real. They're they're going to show
- 2:00:36Carson Beck some things he hasn't seen this year.
- 2:00:39Carson Beck has been great down the stretch, really, really good
- 2:00:43development out of the quarterback from Georgia
- 2:00:45throughout the year. But I think Bama is going to
- 2:00:47slow them down a little bit and I think Bama is going to be able
- 2:00:49to cover. But I think Georgia is going to
- 2:00:52get the win to finish another season undefeated.
- 2:00:56All righty, who's Shelton laying on this one?
- 2:00:59Riding with Georgia. Riding with Georgia Tally, This
- 2:01:02is a tough one for you. Hey, can y'all hear me Good.
- 2:01:05I've got my microphone up so everybody can hear this.
- 2:01:08Georgia is going to win this game because if they do not win,
- 2:01:13you may not see ASCC team in the playoffs.
- 2:01:18They are not going to let that happen.
- 2:01:21They will not. There will be refs putting on
- 2:01:24uniforms and playing. Georgia's going to win this
- 2:01:28game. I'm taking Georgia just because
- 2:01:31I had to see Georgia's logo up here.
- 2:01:33But if I if I'm betting, I'm definitely putting money on
- 2:01:38Georgia money line because Georgia's winning this game
- 2:01:41because again it gets too funky. If Alabama wins, if Alabama
- 2:01:45beats Georgia in this game and then you have to go into.
- 2:01:49Thinking about a playoff without ASCC team in?
- 2:01:53They'll burn it down. They don't know what are we
- 2:01:55going to do. We may not be we there's if if
- 2:01:58that happens, there's not going to be an NCAA Football game
- 2:02:01coming out. So all of you gamers, you might
- 2:02:04as well throw it away. There's going to be people
- 2:02:07that's going to be petitioning outside of the college playoffs
- 2:02:10that says Michael Vick was fighting dogs.
- 2:02:12It's going to be chaos. If that happens, I'm telling you
- 2:02:16right now, Georgia's going to win because they want to get
- 2:02:19ASCC team in there. And if Alabama wins, it's going
- 2:02:22to be too tricky for them to put like if if Alabama wins, they
- 2:02:26have to put two teams in there and they can't put two teams in
- 2:02:29there unless everybody loses. That's just my opinion.
- 2:02:33I'd say it's a good way to point.
- 2:02:35I'm I'm with Tally on this one that Georgia has to win this
- 2:02:40game and I think. Six is the line, right?
- 2:02:45Funky, funky plays can happen at end of games.
- 2:02:47We saw that last weekend with the Alabama game, right?
- 2:02:51Georgia wins by 10 because it ain't gonna be no funky play at
- 2:02:55the end of the game for Alabama this time.
- 2:02:59I like a pick based on a conspiracy theory, though.
- 2:03:01Tally, I appreciate that. Yes.
- 2:03:04There we go. I'm, I'm riding with.
- 2:03:08I'm round with Georgia too. Pete you are the the the lone
- 2:03:13hey look, I mean I think these teams.
- 2:03:17I think Georgia's got a little too much love.
- 2:03:18Both of these teams struggled last week.
- 2:03:20You wouldn't. I know Georgia SAT they didn't
- 2:03:23have a couple of their better players but like Georgia Tech by
- 2:03:278. What what are you doing messing
- 2:03:28around with Georgia Tech by 8. I know Bama almost lost, but
- 2:03:32that's at least a rivalry like Georgia.
- 2:03:34Georgia Tech. Like I know is good old
- 2:03:37fashioned. Hate.
- 2:03:37Georgia Tech. Sucks.
- 2:03:39Come on. There you go.
- 2:03:41Yeah. I mean, at this point, I mean,
- 2:03:43Georgia, Georgia Tech is very much Virginia Tech, UVA, right?
- 2:03:47Yeah. It's been it's been dead for 20
- 2:03:49plus years. Yeah, they'll they'll, they'll,
- 2:03:51they'll scrape one here or there.
- 2:03:53That's competitive. But it's so I'm willing to
- 2:03:55forgive Bama's performance more than I am Georgia's.
- 2:03:59And Georgia has had close calls against Auburn earlier in the
- 2:04:02year there. They Mizzou.
- 2:04:04Mizzou was the tight one. South Carolina was a lot tighter
- 2:04:08than it should have. Been like.
- 2:04:09I was going to say Georgia's been playing with the food all.
- 2:04:12All year. So is Bama though.
- 2:04:14I mean they got, I mean you say what you want, they got smacked
- 2:04:17by Texas. They got smacked at home And
- 2:04:19then the USF game, we were sitting up, that was during the
- 2:04:23Rutgers weekend. One that Brian, when I came up
- 2:04:24to your house and we were like. What are they doing?
- 2:04:27Like this is USA. Well, they they had a shadow,
- 2:04:30they had a shadow ban on Milro that game.
- 2:04:32They didn't play them and there there was, there was some kind
- 2:04:34of suspension going on there and I thought that Milro has
- 2:04:38developed better since since that that game you mentioned.
- 2:04:44No, the problem that they had that game is that the boosters
- 2:04:47and the fans. Were telling Nick Saban how to
- 2:04:49coach. So he said, well, let me show
- 2:04:50you that I know more than you guys do.
- 2:04:53And he put those other quarterbacks in and they suck.
- 2:04:56They were horrible. And they also were playing in
- 2:04:59like a hurricane. So it was a lot going on down.
- 2:05:01Now since then we've seen what they've done.
- 2:05:05They're still going to lose Saturday all.
- 2:05:06Right, we got the AAC packs. SM Future ACC member SMU versus
- 2:05:11Tulane, Tulane Lane 5 1/2 points Another good game.
- 2:05:15Tulane 11 and one SMU 10 and two.
- 2:05:19Any back on this one Pete? Yeah, well SMU is 4th nationally
- 2:05:24in points per game. They have been throwing up
- 2:05:27points at 69 points a couple weeks ago.
- 2:05:30Nice. But the thing, the thing about
- 2:05:33SMU is their two losses are too TCU and Oklahoma 2P, five teams.
- 2:05:40TCU is not very good. And so my kind of thing with SMU
- 2:05:44is that they're like AG5 version of Virginia Tech.
- 2:05:48Yeah, they will beat the crap out of some bad teams, but when
- 2:05:51they go up against anybody decent, they lose.
- 2:05:55And so I think Tulane's going to win the win the ball game.
- 2:05:58And Tulane, despite struggling against ECU and a couple other
- 2:06:02guys, I just think Tulane finds a way and I think they're going
- 2:06:06to be able to win the game by 6 points.
- 2:06:08So I'm going to take Tulane. All right, Pete's got Tulane.
- 2:06:13Brian, who do you got in this one?
- 2:06:15I'm riding with Tulane as well. I think they're going to put it,
- 2:06:18put it together in this one. As Pete said, SMU has struggled
- 2:06:22against quality competition. I would consider Tulane a
- 2:06:25quality opponent, so I'm going to go with Tulane here.
- 2:06:31All righty. I'm going to go different than
- 2:06:34y'all. I think.
- 2:06:35I think Tulane's going to win the game, but I think 5 1/2, as
- 2:06:38good as the SMU offense is, they'll get some points.
- 2:06:41They're going to give up some points and I think it's it's
- 2:06:44what every time I see a line like this, I think it's like
- 2:06:47it's a 10 point lead. The great offense scores with
- 2:06:51six seconds left and they get the back door cover and like,
- 2:06:56oh, this is a really good game. And like, Nah, they scored with
- 2:06:59six seconds left. They had no chance to actually
- 2:07:00win this game tally. I was cutting out.
- 2:07:06I missed half of what you said S.
- 2:07:09MUSMU because they got offense and they going to be able to at
- 2:07:12least score some points. I'm going to take two lane on
- 2:07:15this man. I'm going to take two lane
- 2:07:16because I'm pretty sure that SM US quarterback that threw for
- 2:07:20like 3200 yards is hurt. So he's out.
- 2:07:24That's a big bulk of their offense.
- 2:07:27He threw for like, I don't know, 26 touchdowns and not very many
- 2:07:31picks, so. I'm going to take Tulane because
- 2:07:34they're SMU signal callers down. All righty, we got Sheldon Peaks
- 2:07:40rolling up there. I would.
- 2:07:42I just want to .1 thing out before we move on to the
- 2:07:44Sunbelt. It's just that Tulane is having
- 2:07:47their starting quarterback play against Ole Miss away from being
- 2:07:51undefeated. Like Pratt did not play against
- 2:07:53Ole Miss, and if he plays in that game, there's a good shot.
- 2:07:57Tulane is undefeated going into this.
- 2:07:59By the way, it's a good thing. This is, This is why we needed
- 2:08:0212, because a team like Tulane deserves to be in the playoff.
- 2:08:07I mean they've done the last two years and and like this and I
- 2:08:10was saying something and we're going to go off topic and y'all
- 2:08:12know I got to pull myself back. But is this not the year it
- 2:08:16should have been 12 teams. There's no one dominant power.
- 2:08:19We pulled it up there and you look and say there's
- 2:08:22legitimately. 11 or 12 teams that if they got hot and they
- 2:08:26played their game, they could beat every other team that's in
- 2:08:29front of them. Let's hope that happens next
- 2:08:32year. All right, Sunbelt Fun Belt.
- 2:08:34Pete App versus App State versus Troy, even because JMU can't
- 2:08:39play Troy. 6 1/2 point favorites.
- 2:08:41What you got All right so JMU cannot play in the game and they
- 2:08:45should be in it. However, who went into
- 2:08:48Harrisonburg and won the game? App state.
- 2:08:51Did App State They deserve to be in this game just as much as JMU
- 2:08:55does In my opinion. Troy has been awesome.
- 2:08:58Their running back is a stud over 1300 yards this year 9
- 2:09:02touchdowns. Their QB Watson and their wide
- 2:09:04receivers are are probably better than Apps.
- 2:09:07Although Aguilar from from App State has the third most passing
- 2:09:11touchdowns in the country. This game could be wild.
- 2:09:14Do you guys remember last year the Troy App State game on the
- 2:09:19Hail Mary? This was the week after AB had
- 2:09:22beaten Texas A&M. These teams play crazy games.
- 2:09:25I cannot wait to see it. I'm taking App State and the
- 2:09:29points. They have been hot.
- 2:09:30I like Joey Aguilar, quarterback.
- 2:09:32I'm going Mountaineers. All right, he goes Mountaineers.
- 2:09:38Who's Shelton got? Shelton has App state as well.
- 2:09:42Tally, what you got? Man, I'm picking with my heart,
- 2:09:45man. I'm picking the hometown
- 2:09:47Trojans. Funny story, man.
- 2:09:50Jacksonville State, which is where I went, Used to be big
- 2:09:53rivals with with Troy before they made the jump to go to the
- 2:09:56big boys. And it was the Trojans versus
- 2:10:00the Cox that was always a very cool rivalry, man.
- 2:10:05You know, one of the chance was. They can't beat our cocks while
- 2:10:10holding. While holding Trojans Trojan
- 2:10:12columns in your hands. Yeah, that's funny as little
- 2:10:16man. See that and get the video of
- 2:10:17that. Oh my God, that's awesome.
- 2:10:20And so your alma mater's going to a bowl too, there, Tal.
- 2:10:23Yeah, man, Jacksonville State's looking good.
- 2:10:25They got some guys that I went to college with that are
- 2:10:27coaching down there, so I I keep up with them pretty good.
- 2:10:30They got some good players, man. Rich Rod's down there doing this
- 2:10:34thing. Yes, that's right.
- 2:10:35That's right. All right.
- 2:10:37I'm next on this one. I'm going, I'm going to ride
- 2:10:39Tally's coattails and I'm going to go Troy as well.
- 2:10:42Troy has two losses this year, one's to a good Kansas State
- 2:10:45team and one was to JMU. The JMU loss was by two points,
- 2:10:50so that is a good Troy team. I think what we saw with App
- 2:10:54State when they beat JMU, it's like it happens every year.
- 2:10:57Somebody gets built up and built up.
- 2:10:59They don't understand how to play.
- 2:11:01App State had been there. How many times as Dave has been
- 2:11:05there has pulled the upsets? Easy.
- 2:11:07See. Look who you got.
- 2:11:10I'm rolling with that state for the opposite reason that you
- 2:11:12just said. I think they are riding some
- 2:11:14momentum now. They show that they could beat a
- 2:11:17team that is earlier in the year taking care of Troy.
- 2:11:20So I feel like they are feeling themselves a little bit.
- 2:11:23I think they're going to take care of business.
- 2:11:24Yeah. Five straight for AP9, straight
- 2:11:27for Troy. This is 2 hot teams coming in.
- 2:11:30I can't wait to see what happens.
- 2:11:31All righty All right, we got two more left.
- 2:11:33We're going to start with the Big 10 championship game where
- 2:11:36it's the Iowa Hawkeyes and I'm pretty sure still the dead last
- 2:11:40offense in the country at 131 against the Michigan Wolverines.
- 2:11:45Michigan, a 23 point favorite. This is in Brian's home stadium,
- 2:11:49the Lucas Oil Stadium of his Colts.
- 2:11:53Pete, what are we seeing on this one?
- 2:11:55Yeah, I mean, you nailed it, Curtis, Like 133rd in yards per
- 2:11:59play. How in your I saw pen, Spencer
- 2:12:02Petrus jumped in the portal today.
- 2:12:04Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. How could any offensive player
- 2:12:08on Iowa not be jumping in the portal?
- 2:12:10They have been absolutely putrid on offense for years.
- 2:12:13I don't know how they won 10 games.
- 2:12:14I really don't. They scraped by Nebraska by the
- 2:12:17skin of their teeth to get that tenth win.
- 2:12:20Their best win of the season was probably against Iowa State who
- 2:12:23is mid at best. So their strength of schedule is
- 2:12:28worse than Virginia Tech's. If you look at the Colleen
- 2:12:30matrix, Michigan will win. Let's not, let's not make any
- 2:12:34bones about this, It's going to be could.
- 2:12:37Could Iowa cover? Sure.
- 2:12:39But is Iowa going to score a point?
- 2:12:41Like is Iowa going to score a point?
- 2:12:44And if they don't score a point, Michigan's getting 24.
- 2:12:46I'm taking Michigan there. You go.
- 2:12:49He's taking Michigan, Brian, who are you taking?
- 2:12:52I just feel like Iowa's defense is going to keep it just close
- 2:12:55and I think they do get one touchdown against Michigan and
- 2:12:59that is. Enough.
- 2:13:01This is true, by the way. They're giving the O underline
- 2:13:05That was last week because it was 24 last week.
- 2:13:08Oh my God. And they did the under, hit it,
- 2:13:13hit it, hit. We we we our our music guy,
- 2:13:16Jason. Get dabbles a little bit.
- 2:13:19We're like, you just got to take the under and watch that game
- 2:13:21because it's taking an under and watching a game is just an
- 2:13:23experience. I'm going to take Michigan here,
- 2:13:28I think Michigan, Pete, I'm with you.
- 2:13:31Iowa's not going to score a point.
- 2:13:33They're not. They're not scoring one point,
- 2:13:35Let's say block a field goal or take one back to the house.
- 2:13:39And I think Michigan is going to get to about 28 or 31.
- 2:13:44So also the 35 1/2 over under take the under, take the under.
- 2:13:48That is the easiest money anybody will make this week. 35
- 2:13:531/2 under on this game, yeah. Man, I got to go with Iowa on
- 2:13:58this, man. I just think that they're like,
- 2:14:00Brian said. I don't think they're going to
- 2:14:02win the game, but. Any any means.
- 2:14:04But I mean, that's a lot of points, man.
- 2:14:07You know what I'm saying? It's just a lot of points in a
- 2:14:09championship game for us to see crazy stuff happen.
- 2:14:13So I just think that we're going to get, you know, I don't know
- 2:14:18not a 24 point win by Michigan and and one thing that you guys
- 2:14:21got going in your favor is the fact that Michigan did lose
- 2:14:25their center last game. Like that would that would
- 2:14:28that's a big loss and I think they are already lost a guard at
- 2:14:31one point. So there is something that could
- 2:14:33potentially hold the Michigan offense back here and not having
- 2:14:36their dudes up front. Nevertheless, I'm going to stick
- 2:14:39with my Michigan, all right? Shelton.
- 2:14:42Shelton Rd. With Iowa and obviously Pete's.
- 2:14:45Pete's with Michigan here all. Right, last game ACC title game
- 2:14:50Louisville, FSU, Louisville or FSU at 2 1/2 point.
- 2:14:54Favorite Pete. What were your impressions to
- 2:14:57take Rodmaker last week in the Swamp against a solid Florida
- 2:15:00defense? They weren't good to start off,
- 2:15:03I'll say that the the guy didn't complete 50% of his passes. 134
- 2:15:10yards, got his clock cleaned trying to slide.
- 2:15:14No, I wasn't impressed. I also wasn't impressed that
- 2:15:17Florida State gave up 244 yards rushing to the Florida offense.
- 2:15:23That's something that if Louisville can run the football,
- 2:15:28that's going to be a huge problem for Florida State in
- 2:15:30this game. Brahm kind of just got his pants
- 2:15:32pulled down by Mark Stoops last week.
- 2:15:35You know, he's going to scheme something up for this
- 2:15:38championship game. Brahm's a very good coach.
- 2:15:40I think Norvell is a good coach. And the line is tight, right?
- 2:15:44The the 15 yards per run. Like if you look at, yeah, yards
- 2:15:50per run allowed, Louisville is 15.
- 2:15:53I know they, they, they didn't have the best game against
- 2:15:56Kentucky. They've only gave up like 84
- 2:15:58rushing yards. If they can slow Benson down,
- 2:16:01Louisville is going to have a tremendous chance to win this
- 2:16:05game. And so I went back and forth on
- 2:16:08this because I think Louisville has a real shot.
- 2:16:10I I really do. I'm going to take floor state.
- 2:16:13It's under a field goal as we're picking it.
- 2:16:15I'm going to take floor state with a gun in my head, but I do
- 2:16:18not like it. What's Sheldon got on this one?
- 2:16:23Sheldon's riding with FSU as well.
- 2:16:26Tally. I got to go FSU, man.
- 2:16:29I got to go FSUI don't have any rhyme or reason behind it.
- 2:16:32I just think they're going to. Win and I I I'm, I'm, I'm riding
- 2:16:37FSU as well. I think they're going to win
- 2:16:38this game and get in the playoff.
- 2:16:40I think they've they've got a well balanced enough team that
- 2:16:43they can do it. And again I think you talked
- 2:16:47about I think being in the swamp might have been the best thing
- 2:16:50for Tate. Rodemaker hostile environment.
- 2:16:52Loud. Playing a solid defense.
- 2:16:54Because now, even though Louisville is a good defense,
- 2:16:59it's the environment. You're going to the Charlotte,
- 2:17:01you're going to Bank of America Stadium.
- 2:17:03You're not going to have people going crazy in your ear.
- 2:17:05And and I think they make the playoff.
- 2:17:07I don't know if they do anything in the playoff, but they make
- 2:17:09it. Curtis, you're absolutely right
- 2:17:12on that because the The Swamp is such a tough place to play and
- 2:17:16so that you couldn't have asked for a better because he came out
- 2:17:20on the winning side and so now they do have the better overall
- 2:17:23roster. So I'm with you.
- 2:17:26Yeah, I think this is a bounce. It's a bounce back week for the
- 2:17:30FSU defense. I think they take care of
- 2:17:33business. I think they do just enough
- 2:17:34offensively to outlast the Cardinals there.
- 2:17:38So give me FSU as well. All righty.
- 2:17:41So they're all our wonderful lines.
- 2:17:43That was a lot of fun to pick these games.
- 2:17:45We got to Pete. Regardless, you're coming back
- 2:17:47and doing this next year. Even if Shelton's on, we're
- 2:17:50still doing this. All righty.
- 2:17:51We got one more thing. I'll let Brian take that down.
- 2:17:55And we won't know likely until Sunday afternoon as we're
- 2:17:59probably watching NFL, seeing if we can make our fantasy
- 2:18:01playoffs. But I'm going to start with that
- 2:18:04guest here. Pete, Bowl projections for
- 2:18:06Virginia Tech. Where do you think we're going
- 2:18:08to go? Who are we going to play?
- 2:18:11Overwhelming projections say Military Bowl, that that's where
- 2:18:16most of the people are projecting us to.
- 2:18:18Do we have a chance at the Duke's Mayo or the Sun Bowl?
- 2:18:21Yes, but in the Military Bowl, Memphis I think has been
- 2:18:25mentioned the most as a potential matchup.
- 2:18:28I've seen Rice in there, SMU in there, UTSA, Navy, if I would
- 2:18:36say it's the Military Bowl against Memphis.
- 2:18:39But it's probably my first choice too because we, we can
- 2:18:43get so many Hokies there. It's easy to get to.
- 2:18:45Do I want to play in El Paso? No, not really.
- 2:18:50I don't want to go to the Tony the Tiger bowl, but that that's
- 2:18:54a that's one of the higher possibilities.
- 2:18:56A lot of the other ones are are probably more remote.
- 2:19:00All righty. So he's going military.
- 2:19:02Memphis Tally, What do you think?
- 2:19:05I keep saying military SMU, so I'm going to go with that
- 2:19:10Military SMU. Matter of fact, I'm putting up a
- 2:19:15GoFundMe on my Twitter page. I need y'all to start sending
- 2:19:21some stuff so I can go to this game wherever it's at.
- 2:19:24I think they need me there to win, so y'all start.
- 2:19:27Start donating. I start donating single.
- 2:19:32Who you got, man? I'm I'm kind of leaning towards
- 2:19:36I I want it to be Duke's Mayo. But I'm the more I think about
- 2:19:40it, it's looking like the military is going to be the
- 2:19:43pick. You know what, as much as I I I
- 2:19:48like Memphis. I think that would be a better
- 2:19:49match up for us. I'm kind of intrigued by the
- 2:19:52future ACC member SSMU match up, so let let me get that one.
- 2:19:58Yeah, you see a lot on here because you got, you got the
- 2:20:01Fenway, you got the pinstripe. We're not going to the pinstripe
- 2:20:03Bowl. Just write that one off.
- 2:20:05They're not going to send us out West.
- 2:20:07I saw the projection today. Clemson's going out West.
- 2:20:09Play USC. That would be fun.
- 2:20:12That's a guarantee right there. They're going to the Holiday
- 2:20:14Bowl. But I think, Brian, you just
- 2:20:16said it. I think it's going to be the
- 2:20:18Military Bowl because they know Hokies in Northern Virginia,
- 2:20:22Richmond, even peep where you are.
- 2:20:24It's not that far of a drive for you down to Annapolis, Easy
- 2:20:28drive. They fill up the stadium and
- 2:20:30then ESPN gets a narrative when they put SMU in there.
- 2:20:34This game is going to happen in the future.
- 2:20:36The SMU versus Virginia Tech. And I think for us it would be a
- 2:20:41challenge. I do that.
- 2:20:43It sure as hell would. Now here's what we hope though.
- 2:20:47We hope it's a good old Annapolis weather.
- 2:20:49It's about 36° and it's a little drizzle.
- 2:20:51With that high-powered offense, they got to make some decisions.
- 2:20:56I mean, one of my least favorite projections is the Kentucky
- 2:20:59Duke's Mayo Bowl. Like, you know, if we had to
- 2:21:01play that, we do not want any part of Lynn Bowden two point O,
- 2:21:07We don't. We don't want because Ray Davis,
- 2:21:10that rushing offense, they would destroy what we got going on in
- 2:21:15the linebacking core and whatnot like that.
- 2:21:17That just would not be good. I don't.
- 2:21:19I do not want either Robbie. Shane didn't make it.
- 2:21:22Shane didn't make. It.
- 2:21:26Not this year. Not this year, no Mayo, for
- 2:21:29shame. This year that's not going to
- 2:21:31happen. I did think when I saw the Sun
- 2:21:32Bowl projection for Virginia Tech against USC, like I did
- 2:21:36kind of perk up like that just sounds wild.
- 2:21:39And the fact that, like, we have some corners, could we defend I?
- 2:21:43Who knows? Well, Caleb Williams wouldn't be
- 2:21:44playing. He wouldn't.
- 2:21:45Even play. So I can say half of them
- 2:21:46wouldn't. Yeah, that's true.
- 2:21:48That's true. So we might get A, we might get
- 2:21:50the B team. And still get worked.
- 2:21:53I don't know. Yeah, I just hope our guys
- 2:21:55playing the bowl game, that's all I want.
- 2:21:56Yeah, right, exactly. We already got people declaring
- 2:21:59for the portal, so we. Got people already not playing.
- 2:22:01So but again, it's just fun to be back in a bowl.
- 2:22:05I mean it. It's a little we missed one
- 2:22:06season. And it's just it's fun to have
- 2:22:08conversations like this because. It is 1000% fun.
- 2:22:12It was depressing last year. It was very depressing.
- 2:22:15Depressing. Yes, it was all right.
- 2:22:17It is after midnight here on the East Coast, over 2 hours, 23
- 2:22:22minutes. It has been a blast.
- 2:22:23Pete, we really appreciate you joining us.
- 2:22:25Has anything broken in the last two hours?
- 2:22:28I mean, obviously a coach got hired.
- 2:22:29So has anything else broken? Has anybody else entered the
- 2:22:31portal or anything like? Pete, that Pete may be entering
- 2:22:35the portal and coming to Boundary corner.
- 2:22:37I'm just letting y'all know you're talking behind this
- 2:22:39thing. You got you got too many people
- 2:22:43on this podcast already. You.
- 2:22:45Can never have. You can never have too many good
- 2:22:47people. I never had too many good.
- 2:22:49I love hanging out with you guys.
- 2:22:50I, you know, and you gave me some props earlier for for what
- 2:22:55I said on your panel. Well go back to the spring when
- 2:22:58we did the the spring preview spring game preview down in at
- 2:23:01Sharky's and I asked, I asked Brian like who does he like at
- 2:23:06wide receiver and he was like Gimme Felton and like we had
- 2:23:09heard nothing to that point about Daquan Felton and Brian
- 2:23:13just pulled it right out. I was like, OK, we'll see what
- 2:23:15happens and look at felt in the last three games. 321 yards, 4
- 2:23:18touchdowns, Good call. Buddy Baller.
- 2:23:21Putting in the work. Putting in the work, man.
- 2:23:24Well, boys, that does wrap up this episode of the Boundary

- 2:24:04Boys, it's been a great season. Six and six.
- 2:24:08Some people say, well, that's nothing.
- 2:24:10Where we were last year at this time with three wins, it did not
- 2:24:13look good. But we're getting back.
- 2:24:15We saw the development and one last time during the regular
- 2:24:20season. Let's go.
- 2:24:22Okey. Okey, thank you Lord for
- 2:24:25covering drones. The.
