- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 93, can you believe it? Lucas: I know. And today we're gonna talk about something perfect for this time of year. Luna: Oh, I love the sound of that. What is it? Lucas: The campfire. In Swedish, it's 'en eld' or more specifically 'en lägereld'. Luna: A campfire. That's so cozy. I can almost smell the smoke. Lucas: Exactly. So let's start with a simple sentence: 'Jag vill sitta vid elden.' That means 'I want to sit by the fire.' Luna: Jag vill sitta vid elden. Lucas: Perfect. 'Jag vill' is 'I want', 'sitta' is 'to sit', 'vid' means 'by', and 'elden' is 'the fire'. Luna: So 'jag vill sitta vid elden' — I want to sit by the fire. That's a good one. Lucas: Now, once you're sitting by the fire, you might say 'Elden är varm' — 'The fire is warm'. Luna: Elden är varm. Lucas: Yes. 'Elden' is the fire, 'är' is is, 'varm' is warm. Say it once more? Luna: Elden är varm. Lucas: Oh, that's good. So if I want to say 'the fire is hot', I could also say 'Elden är het.' But 'varm' is more common for a nice campfire. Luna: Got it. So 'varm' is like warm, 'het' is hot. Lucas: Exactly. Now, a campfire is often a social thing. So you might ask 'Ska vi sjunga sånger?' — 'Shall we sing songs?' Luna: Ska vi sjunga sånger? Lucas: Yeah. 'Ska vi' means 'shall we', 'sjunga' is 'sing', 'sånger' is 'songs'. Put it together: 'Ska vi sjunga sånger?' Luna: Ska vi sjunga sånger? That's a nice question to ask around a fire. Lucas: And if you want to roast something, you can say 'Jag vill grilla marshmallows' — 'I want to grill marshmallows'. Luna: Jag vill grilla marshmallows. That's fun. 'Grilla' is grill, and marshmallows... is just marshmallows in Swedish too? Lucas: Yep, we say 'marshmallows' as well. So 'jag vill grilla marshmallows'. Luna: I love that. So I could say 'Jag vill sitta vid elden och grilla marshmallows'. Lucas: Oh, that's perfect. 'Och' is 'and'. So you said 'I want to sit by the fire and grill marshmallows.' Very natural. Luna: Thanks. And then I'd say 'Det är mysigt' — 'It's nice and cozy.' Lucas: Exactly. 'Mysigt' is one of those Swedish words that's hard to translate. It means cozy, pleasant, nice. So 'Det är mysigt'. Luna: Det är mysigt. That sums up the whole campfire feeling. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Swedish, like sitting by the fire and chatting, you might consider supporting the show. Luna: Yeah, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. Buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Lucas: It really makes a difference. Now, back to our campfire. Let's imagine we're all sitting around it. Luna: Okay, so I say 'Jag vill sitta vid elden.' Lucas: Good. And I say 'Elden är varm.' Luna: Ska vi sjunga sånger? Lucas: Yeah, let's. And later, 'Jag vill grilla marshmallows.' Luna: Det är mysigt. Lucas: Exactly. So let's quickly review all five phrases. First: 'Jag vill sitta vid elden.' Luna: Jag vill sitta vid elden. Lucas: Elden är varm. Luna: Elden är varm. Lucas: Ska vi sjunga sånger? Luna: Ska vi sjunga sånger? Lucas: Jag vill grilla marshmallows. Luna: Jag vill grilla marshmallows. Lucas: And finally, 'Det är mysigt.' Luna: Det är mysigt. Lucas: Oh, that's so good. You've got it. Practice these phrases around your next campfire, and you'll sound like a true Swede. Luna: Tack så mycket, Lucas. This was really mysigt. Lucas: It was. Vi ses nästa gång. Hej då! Luna: Hej då!
