- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint Callistus the first, pope and martyr, October 14 in the year of our Lord 2026. In 1942, Pope Pius the twelfth through the Sacred Congregation of Rights presented a new mass for supreme pontiffs known as with the introit that begins with the line from the gospel of John, if thou lovest me, Simon Peter, feed my lambs, feed my sheep. It replaced the propers for multiple masses for supreme pontiffs including today's which had been mostly unique to Saint Callistus the first. In the pre 1955 series I present the older mass for Saint Callistus.
- 1:04In the 1962 series I present the Sidiligisme Mass in which only the collects remain proper to St. Callistus. In the Father LaSance Missal, Monsignor William R. Kelly writes, Pope St. Callistus succeeded St.
- 1:25Zephyrinus. The institution of the Imbra Day fasts is ascribed to him. He suffered martyrdom under Emperor Alexander Severus October fourteenth two hundred and twenty three. He was a staunch defender of the unity of the divine essence. He offered absolution to even the greatest sinner who should have performed the canonical penances.
- 1:56In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. The Introit. If thou lovest me, Simon Peter, feed my lambs, feed my sheep. I will extol thee, O Lord, for thou hast upheld me and has not made my enemies to rejoice over me.
- 2:27Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be, through all ages of ages. Amen. If thou lovest me, Simon Peter, feed my lambs, feed my sheep. The Collect, let us pray. O God, who seest that we are fallen from our own very weakness, mercifully restore us to thy love by the example of thy saints through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 3:24Amen. A lesson from the first letter of Saint Peter the Apostle. Beloved, I who am a presbyter like yourselves, give this charge to the presbyters who are among you. I who bear witness of Christ's sufferings, and who will share with you in the glory that is to be revealed. Be shepherds to the flock God has given you.
- 3:57Carry out your charge as God would have it done cordially, not like drudges, generously, not in the hope of sordid gain, not tyrannizing each in his own sphere, but setting an example as best you may to the flock. So when the chief shepherd makes his appearance, your prize will be that crown of glory which cannot fade. And so the God of all grace who has called us to enjoy after a little suffering his eternal glory in Christ Jesus will himself give you mastery and steadiness and strength. Glory be to him through endless ages. Amen.
- 5:02The gradual. Let them exalt him in the church of the people and praise him in the chair of the ancients. Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him and his wonderful works to the children of men. Alleluia. Alleluia.
- 5:26Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time Jesus came into the neighborhood of Caesarea Philippi, and there he asked his disciples, what do men say of the Son of Man? Who do they think he is?
- 5:57Some say John the Baptist, they told him, others Elijah, others again Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. Jesus said to them, and what of you? Who do you say that I am? Then Simon Peter answered, thou art the Christ, the son of the living God. And Jesus answered him, Blessed art thou Simon Bar Jonah, it is not flesh and blood, it is my Father in heaven that has revealed this to thee.
- 6:40And I tell thee this in my turn, that thou art Peter. And upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. And whatever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
- 7:17The Offertory. Behold, I have given my words in thy mouth. Lo, I give thee authority over the nations. With a word, thou shalt root them up, and pull them down. With a word, thou shalt build them up and plant them anew.
- 7:44The secret. O Lord, may this mystical oblation be to our good. May it cleanse us from our sins, and may it confirm our eternal salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface.
- 8:21Just it is indeed and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.
- 9:17Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church. The post communion.
- 9:41Let us pray. We beseech the Almighty God that the hallowing of the gifts we have offered may both wash away our guilt and make us henceforth to lead good and holy lives Lord. The for the ages. Amen. We In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost.
