- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Joining me today is Eric.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: We take you.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: How are you doing today, my guy?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing well, excited to talk about some interior defensive alignment in the 2026 class.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: admittedly, maybe not a position that jumps out as something that the dolphins will go after early on, but I think that there are some really interesting players later on down the board at this spot.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we know that the dolphins have drafted three interior defensive linemen in the 2025 NFL draft.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't necessarily rule them out of drafting on another defensive tackle in the 2026 NFL draft, maybe another rotational guy, step piece, as well.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll get into it because the defensive line is the control center of Jeff Hathley's defense.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he doesn't start with the blitzes.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: With blitzes, it doesn't really start with setting the pocket.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: we know what the edge rushers have more so starts along the interior, you know.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: Last week's episode we talked about the edge rusher's, we've more to talk about edge rusher's that could close like a roop and bane tuner amongst others, but someone on the defensive lines, specifically the defensive tackles have to collapse the pocket, stress those into your guard, divertably, and make those pockets, you know, crowded for the quarterback or the quarterback gets super anti kind of like how the CLC
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: to Drake May leading to, you know, two turnovers.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: The Seattle's getting a fumble six, then an intersection off the Drake May, as well.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: Now look, Eric, this, you know, interior defense of line class so far isn't about filling in snaps.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's more so about getting the structural foundation in place and maybe potentially the dolphins looking for their
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: were a little I don't know if they have the luxury to at least attack it early on in the draft because you just think of this team right now and there's so many holes elsewhere that drafting a guy for essentially 2027, 2028 for when you can see is actually a kind of aging out.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure that's a luxury that they have but there are a lot of guys that I think have really high potential in this class.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, kind of in the mid-round spots, uh, and, you know, you mentioned it, it's the simplest thing in, in football, it's, what makes a system like Jeff Halfley's go, if you can rush the quarterback with four, chances are you're going to be pretty good.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and getting, number one, it's why I'm excited to see Zack sealer this defense because I think,
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: you know, when he's no longer, when he can be more aggressive in just attacking his, his assignment, I think he's going to have more production than he did last year, look a little bit more like he did when he was next to Christian Wilkins, a couple years back.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I also, I'm looking at this class, and like I said, there are guys later on down the
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: the goals of what a Jeff Hathley defense sets out to accomplish along the interior.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but first off, we got to talk about, you know, the current defensive line for the mind we do often is right now, the only solid structural group they have is the interior defensive line with Zack Seeler leading the way, you know, he's core on, quote, their prototype of what Jeff Hathley is looking for, you know,
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: immense power, you know, consistent, motor, you know, 100% effort, and can really collapse the pocket.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: He can win without, you know, the blitz health, albeit there's still a lot of stunts and twists, twists, that come, that helps generate that pressure.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: But he's pretty much of the bench mark of what a defensive tackle looks like.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Then we have last year's rookie
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: Helps out in the run game.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's an early-down compliment and has, you know, a little bit of that past rush upside That you're looking for that's a complimentary piece to Zach Sealer and someone, you know You know, hopefully starting next year Grant actually takes that step forward in his sophomore season Where he becomes, you know that early-down guy the three-down defensive linemen that doesn't get taken
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: of the field in obvious pastes, situations, and obvious or in situations.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then you got two other rookies who are not necessarily the perfect fit in Jordan, Philadelphia, and Zeeek, Bigger's Eric.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I, I think Jordan Phillips is the guy that's kind of the wild card of the two because I think while Jordan Phillips does profile a little bit more as a traditional nose.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Um, just off of what he does.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's got really sneaky explosiveness.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and we saw it last year.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, he's a guy that kind of surprisingly showed off maybe even more past rushing shops.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: Um, then a guy like Kenneth granted.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's not to say that I think he's going to be a better overall fit in the system.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think that.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, on those almost third downs when you do need a little bit more past rush shoes, he might be the guy next to sealer in those situations.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, lastly, we do have ZEK figures.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I think ZEK figures fills a role on this roster in kind of being their, their most traditional nose and those situations where they do need a nose.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, when it comes to, he's more of a, hold the pocket in place kind of guy rather than a pocket collapse or and disruptor, um, which is a little bit more what you're looking for in a Jeff halfway defense, but I think he's different enough from some of the other guys that.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know he'll get he'll still get you know a decent amount of snaps there, but I look at I look at Jordan Phillips really as kind of the wild card in the room of the guy that, you know, he could have a really big leap going in the next season.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, with Zika Bigger's, there was some past rush upside that we saw in some plays last season that gives us hope, but not enough of that consistency or that consistent snap count basis, yet I wonder if Hathley would consider playing him a little bit more consider rotating him.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: a little bit more.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: But let's take a look at what Jeff Haffling needs in his defensive linemen.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: They've got to be at least 6-2-6-3, at least over 75 inches around 305 pounds, 33-inch arm length, 8-sub 5.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: 40 yard dash and a 1.67 10 yard split.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: These guys have to be fast and it's not necessarily about having the most body weight or body mass but more so having the power to move because if you get
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of times.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that pressure really does matter.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: You can argue and say, you know, sacks matter more, but to get the sacks, you need to have that pressure.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, you know, where we talked about, you know, those edge rushers, if they can win those one-on-ones, if they win with four pass versus where the defensive, where the defensive tackles, whether it be as it knows, as a one, as a three-tech, are you able to get that interior pressure and move the
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: off their lawn spot, the edge rushers have to win those 101 matchups along the edge because the pressure should be there.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: It will be there and it's just clean up time for the edge rushers.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: And once again to generate that pressure and that movement, that short area burst really does matter and that's where, you know, that Tegnart split comes in less than two seconds like
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, we're going to get into the archetypes that also matter for Jeff Hathley's defense.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we talked about the pocket collapse or for the Azure Russia or last, we were talking about pocket farmers, we're talking about, you know, run defense specialists, the interior disruptors, and you know, those developmental types like Leca Zika Bayvers, which was last year as well.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, you know, in terms of metrics when you're looking at guys that can really be those explosive pieces.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it is, I mean, the 40 yard dash is important, but you really don't want your defensive line running 40 yards on a given play.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, you mentioned the 10 yards split, I think is the most important thing and then obviously, I think things like the broad jump and even the vertical kind of do a good job of kind of showing off that
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: just that explosiveness that guys have in their lower half that they need off the snap.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and really that's kind of just from a physical standpoint.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think what you would want to be looking for in a lot of these guys.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: But there are quite a few guys in this class that I think
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, can really, really help this defense now.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: Certain guys towards the top, I don't think we, you know, the dolphins will really have the opportunity to go out and get.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we look at a guy like Peter Woods out of Clemson who is kind of that, you know, prototype poster child for a pocket firmer.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: A guy that's really explosive has really solid past rush
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: doesn't really miss that he's just kind of a jack of all trades can can be a three down defensive lineman.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: And again, you know, he.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: I've, it sounds lazy because they're both Clemson guys, but, you know, I've seen the cops to Christian Wokens and I really, I, I mean, I really do see it with the guy like Peter Woods because I do see the, the past rushability.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: the cleanest fit necessarily in any particular defense because he's one of those guys where it's he's just good at everything.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he's really great at one particular thing.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, he's a guy that you can just start along the interior of your defensive line and set it for get it, you know, he'll be a five time pro bowler in 12 seasons.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Woods has around a 22% past-rush win rate, almost 19 pressures, had a run defense grade from PFF of an A2 and had 18 run stops last season.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: His get-off is explosive, he can collapse the pocket vertically.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: But he was misused a little bit, and Clemson, the reason why is that, you know,
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: in 2025, he stunted the defensive alignment a lot, especially Peter Woods, and we didn't talk about last week, but TJ Parker, he blitzed the linebackers and defensive backs a lot, and that pretty much came at the cost of Peter Woods's individual production, and he was asked to just basically crash into offensive linemen.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Now, if Jeff Halfley is going to do that and if they do potentially take Peter Woods, would the 11th pick, I don't think that would be the best use of his ability.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's much better where if you get him on a one on one type of matchup with offensive guards to stress them out, he'll win, especially with his movement abilities.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and that will help to allow us get some of that into your pressure as well.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: Same thing was actually, you get him to go up on those guards one on one and he'll win the same way as well.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Just think about what.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Zack sealer look like with collides Campbell and you get Peter Woods in there as well.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: Zack sealer was pretty elite that season in 2023.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry in 2024.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think we could see the same thing if Peter Woods is the pick at number 11.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: And if they take another into your defensive alignment, I think a lot of dolphins fans would be disappointed if Peter Woods is the pick, but it would pretty much help set the foundation for this dolphin's defense, which is
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: It certainly would.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: I get it not being the sexiest pick and it kind of being doubling down on something that a lot of people consider a strength or at least less of a weakness than some of the other spots along the defense.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: But again, I mean, look at what.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: The teams that have truly elite defensive lines are able to do in this league.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: You look at Philadelphia, you look at Seattle, you look at Denver, and these teams that are able to win with four consistently, it is the, it is the, it is the,
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: The biggest floor razor you can have on your team is to be able to win with four as a defense up front.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think getting a guy like Peter Woods takes you to that to that level along the interior.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: Now, do you have questions down the line of, okay, well, you know, you're going to have a lot of
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's what your coaches are kind of paid to figure out.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the next guy Lee Hunter, I've text this type.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, three Cs, he was with UCF in Orlando for the last three seasons before transferring to Texas Tech.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's around 64, 3233 pounds.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big boy.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's projected to have a 5.2 40-yard dash, but he's had some really good metrics.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: 80.5% past rush, win rate.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: 20 point or on 20 21 pressures last season is much better at run fits rather than rushing the passer But I don't think he's the best scheme fit in Jeff Hathley's defense because his strength is more so reading and reacting and occupying space
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: rather than attacking guards rushing the pastor and giving that interior pressure inside.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you know anything from what you've told you about Jeff Hathley's defense is that the defense of linemen are one gappers where they fill up the gaps and attack through there.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: So that way there's no space for running backs and quarterbacks.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Discramble through and allows the edge of rushers to truly play the edge.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: once again, not necessarily the best fit in terms of one gaping, but like we said with Peter Woods Eric, if Jeff Haffley does run a lot of stunts, twists, and blitzes, Lee Hunter would actually be your guy because that was his specific role at Texas Tech.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I can, I definitely see where people might look at a guy like Lee Hunter and see that he's not necessarily a scheme fit, but what he is is a really productive football player.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like you mentioned, I think at his size, his metrics are going to look really good when he gets into a combine situation.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: And he's not a guy that will necessarily win with explosion right off the snap is as far as past rush goes, but he's a guy that's going to kind of be in a leap clean up man.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, along the interior defensive alignment, think of, you know, I think of like a dexter Lawrence and how he's able to get six, seven sex in a season, um, even though he's not necessarily that prototypical pocket collapsing prep past rusher, um, and that's kind of what I see out of a guy like Lee Hunter and, and obviously, you know, that's a really productive player.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I don't know about,
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: a day one pick for early hunter, but I wouldn't, I mean, I, I think he's a good football player.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I can't, you can't hate a good football player as the pick, you know.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: Really.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the next guy and we're actually done with the pocket firmer archetype the one that can actually collapse the pocket for that brushers.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're just moving on to the interior disruptors where they can actually bring true pressure on passing downs that help on those second and third and longs and make sure, you know, the pressure is there in the
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, can't make a decision.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: We're actually going to go to Lee Hunter's team me, Skylar, give a Howard.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: Around 6162 sub 300 pounds, around 17 pressures, last season, 77 run defense grade.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: And per PFF, he had a 6.4 true pressure percentage past-rush production grade.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: The good thing about him is that he's got leverage and was a former wrestler as well.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: So that instantly bumps him up in my board because if you know anything for offensive defensive linemen, if you know how to get leverage when in leverage and have a wrestling
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: You definitely see it with the pad level when, you know, really pops kind of on film.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's the prototypical rotational kind of sub-package interior defensive alignment.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: Although you mentioned he does have a really impressive run defense grade for a guy that does
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: kind of the one archetype that the dolphins don't have along the interior defensive line because you look at sealer and you look at grant, you look at biggers and you look at Phillips all those guys are kind of tipping the scales at you know three hundred three twenty three twenty five plus.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: and he's really kind of a change of pace along the interior defensive line compared to some of those other guys.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're just looking at fit along the defensive line I think he does a, he's a really good option for just a depth piece that can kind of fill in the gaps where the dolphins don't have a lot of,
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that particular archetypal player for Skylar Gohawk.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: The next guy is Dante Corlion out of Cincinnati.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's potentially sub 6-1 around 6-1-335 pounds.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: His nickname is actually quote-unquote The Godfather.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't know who gave him that nickname, but
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, this one's kind of a coin flip for me because he's got amazing power can take up double teams, but does not necessarily have that length and that athleticism to actually play, you know, 25 to 30 snaps a game, he'll be more so of like.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: a rotational guy.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: He is a consistent disruptor.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: I will say that because he can collapse the pocket.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: He prevents the quarterback from stepping up as well.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: If you watch, you know, his game against Arizona, he consistently does that against Arizona's offensive lineman.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you watch a season ago as well, he actually put Jonas Havana on the ground once or twice as
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry that wasn't seven night because the game was last year seven I was part
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: of the mind be dolphin.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: So scratch everything I said about that for Savania.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: He does have versatility to be a one-gapper or a two-gapper.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: His fit is more so way true, knows, but he can also work in a foreman front as a one technique.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: So he does fit, you know, the one-gapping scheme that Jeff Hathley brings.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean,
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: The thing with a guy like Corlion, and I do like him quite a bit because I do think he offers like you mentioned that really rare versatility.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: The only concerns that I have are, you know, he number one, the physical traits as far as the length goes along the defensive line, although I think
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, along the interior, you can kind of have those, those bowling balls, I guys that are still productive.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing with quarterly on that kind of concerns me, and I mean, it's been something over his college career is, I do have concerns about the conditioning and the motor a little bit.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Because, like you mentioned, he is going to be a guy that at the next level, at least right now, looks like he's only going to be able to play 20 to 25 snacks per game job.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, isn't necessarily like a day one guy, he's more so late day two early guy as well.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now granted.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like you mentioned, I think that the, I think that the upside with him is worthy of a pick, especially if you get to day three and he's there, I'm all about it because I do think that it'll be a really good 20 to 25 snaps per game, you know, in the highest upside case, but, you know, it's just a really small dose.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: All right, before we get to our last player in terms of our interior disruptors, we will actually head to break.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Cold days, big gold, no time to cook, factor makes healthy eating easy with fully prepared meals designed by dietitians and crafted by chefs.

- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: quality, functional ingredients, including lean proteins, colorful veggies, old food ingredients, and healthy fats.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite ones is actually the honey glaze, meat of salmon.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: I know I previously talked about it as well, but once again, I'm gonna talk about it as well because it is actually really, really good.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not the biggest salmon fan, but it tastes really well and it keeps me healthy, especially, you know, I started actually going to the gym.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: a little bit.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: So it's helping me with my protein intake and it doesn't taste, you know, like elementary school cafeteria food to say at least.

- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: and we are back.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: The last one in the interior disruptor list is actually a potential first-round pick Eric out of Florida.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: However, he has a little bit of an injury concern as well.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Caleb Banks is a really interesting prospect to me.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: Probably one of my favorite guys that we're gonna talk about on this list because I think he's,
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you could make an interior defensive lineman in a lab, it would be Caleb Banks because you just have such a rare athletic ability paired with, you know, a guy at six, six, three, thirty who can be a legit past rusher, but you mentioned the the the intrigue concerns and that's kind of the big thing with him.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: I look at him at times and I wonder why he's not a better run defender and it's kind of frustrates me a little bit because he should be a better run defender than he is.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: I look at him a lot like I looked at Dion Walker coming out of Kentucky last year and I think
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, and he was a guy that was taken kind of the third or fourth round, but Caleb Banks, I mean, just really explosive collapses the pocket very well, but You know, you wonder about a guy that six, six, three, 30 and already has a little bit of an injury history.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, more so on the lower body with his foot, he had a foot injury, late and fall.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: sat out, you know, the first two games against L.I.U.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: and UCF, then broke his foot again, and the LSU game.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be all too important.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, yeah, exactly.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: If anything, we've told you already about what Jeff Haffley and John X, what I'm going to look for is that they won't players for the last two seasons have consistently played and produced and not have had a lot of injury.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: history unless they are an elite prospect and have shown before that the injury concerns don't necessarily matter that much.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: with Caleb Banks, I don't necessarily see him as an elite prospect, because as you mentioned about the run defense, less than a 70 run defense grade.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: And the one thing that sticks out to me is his mistaqual percentage, above 20%, 23.3% of his tackles were missed.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: For a guy that 6, 6, 330 pounds, he shouldn't be really missing those tackles like that.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't necessarily see him in the future as a guy that will replace Zack Seeler.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: Now don't get me wrong.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: He might be the best past rushing defensive tackle in the class.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're gonna be a first round defensive tackle, your run defense has to be good too.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: Because if offenses are gonna run your way in your gap and you're giving out three, four yards of popping your gap and you're not making those tackles,
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: your worth and your value in run defense is like below the barrel and it makes me wonder if it might have been a scheme thing maybe you know his foot issues were still lingering on but I think it really depends on what his athletic and medical test it looks like
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: He could potentially be a candidate in the first round if Miami does indeed trade back.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: And if Jeff Haffley is wondering to really turn up the heat on this defensive line group.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Because I don't see him as a first down disruptor.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: I see him more so as a problem creator on third and seven on third and five on those long, third downs that
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, he is kind of what, I mean, he is what people look at, you know,
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: like you mentioned at the top of the show is he figures kind of flashing a little bit of that past rush upside.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: Imagine he flashed that past rush upside like all the time and that would be Caleb Banks.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: But it comes at the caveat of especially for a big man I just think foot injuries are so
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's just disqualifying to me.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: I really like the player and it really sucks that I'm at that point, but you get to foot injuries for defensive linemen.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's just not a good combo.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: We will move on from the interior disruptor architect to more so of the run game or racers, which still bring value, but don't necessarily have that past rush upside that the other defense of tackles in this class get.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: All right, this player out of Georgia, Christian Miller, he is looking like a very early day to prospect.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: 64, 305 pounds is projected to run a sub-540 in a lead run defense grade of 81 by PFF, less than a 9% mistaical rate.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he's one of those guys on early downs that can control and dictate tempo in the run game.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's versatile enough to play either in an odd front and even front.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: He can one gap, he can two gap, he can line up as the nose, the three, the five, but does not have that pass rush upside here.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to say it doesn't have the upside.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have the production to this point as the pass rusher.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think you look at his skill set and there's really no reason why he can't get better at that spot, you know, I look at him and, you know, on first and second downs, he looks kind of favorable to, you know, I mean, I look at him and I'm like, this is a
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: for something.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: It just doesn't translate to production in past rushing situations, but I look at him and I see him as a guy that can get better in those bots.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: But again, if you're looking for past rush upside in this Jeff Haffley system, I don't know if you want to draft the guy
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: hoping that eventually he gets there.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now I know what he brings you on first and second down, but I don't think he brings you anything that Kenneth Grant wouldn't bring you next to Zach Sealer on first and second.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_01]: So it just feels a little redundant to me for a Christopher Miller, even though I really like the player in the talent.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the next guy is Kedomik Donald out of Ohio State.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm more associated as the true run game eraser that true knows one tech as well.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: Six, three, about to be 330 pounds as well.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think he has started potential in this Miami Dolphins defense if they are to move off of Zack Seeler in the next year too.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's a talented run defense defender.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: One of the highest graded guys in run defense has run 30, 30-ish run stops last season and he's
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: in college as well.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: I will say though, you know, I don't know,
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: if Miami will be in a range to select him in the second round, because he's going in the first round in the late 20s, as well.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think Miami will trade back that much into the first round, just to fill a defensive line, luxury, because they have players that can fill the egg app, can collapse the run lanes, that can collapse the pocket
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, once again, I don't see him as a Zack sealer replacement right now, but he's one of those guys that let's everybody else play and eat and that's what you need out of, you know, a second string defense of tackle.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I do have a little some concerns regarding fit, particularly if they're going to be really strict in terms of the one gaping, because I do think that he's probably a little bit better as, you know, your traditional space eater as a nose tackle.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's elite at that.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: As mentioned, I do think that there's
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, lack of a little bit of explosiveness off the snap of those past-rust situations.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, if you want a guy who's going to almost ensure that you can get to those third and long situations where you can bring in your guys that can collapse the pocket, he's absolutely that caliber player.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: Again, just a really, really solid player, you know, you don't look at a really good nose tackle and appreciate those guys enough often times, but what they do for defenses is just so pivotal.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I just, like you, like you, I kind of don't know if they are going to get into the range to be able to select the guy like McDonald, you know, if for no other reason, then like you mentioned, I just I can't see them trading down that far into the first to select the position that again is probably stronger than some of the other spots on the roster.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think Cated McDonald would be perfect if the dolphins were picking around, you know, the 20s because they already have a pocket collapse or index sealer and if they had that, you know, first and second down dominance if that stays consistent with Jeff Hathley.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: And if they did not have to rely on blitzes as well, I do think they will still have to rely on blitzes this year, just based on the makeup of the defensive personnel so far.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: We have to see what free agency looks like.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure we'll revisit this conversation as we get closer to the draft.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he would be a perfect fit in Miami.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: this defense, and I don't think he is in need, but he will certainly be a luxury.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right, outside of that, we have our developmental options where Jeff Hathley and the Dolphin's Defense for Coaching Staff could bet on traits.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: And there's like three guys, which we've narrowed down to later on on day two and day three.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: as well.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: The first one is Darrell Jackson, Jr. out of Florida state, six, five, three hundred and fifteen, three hundred and thirty seven pounds, actually almost three hundred and forty pounds.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: Massive, massive guy Eric, like he's he's humongous.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, again, you know, another guy that
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: If you were just creating a defensive lineman in a lab, he would look a lot, but he would look a lot like their own Jackson Jr. Now I understand that there are the concerns with the motor, and he hasn't necessarily been the most productive, consistently throughout his college career, but man, he's just a guy that he just pops so much on film
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: This is a first round pick, but then you, you zoom out and you realize that's really maybe 20% of the time with him.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, that's where if you're bringing him in, you know, you want to bring him into a team where you have a really solid culture.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's a guy that if you do
- 41:47[SPEAKER_01]: has at least the upside of being one of the three or four best interior defense defensive lineman taken.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a matter of, making sure that you keep him consistent.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's the only thing.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing is with his size in his frame, he's not able to generate that past rush juice.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: And there was a lot of that concern coming out of the end of the season and throughout
- 42:15[SPEAKER_00]: If it's not the consistency and if it's not a motor issue which we saw at the senior bull, then what exactly is it like maybe something is not clicking there might have been a scheme issue at Florida state, maybe he just needs better coaching.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: as well.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: Another guy Grace and Halton out of Oklahoma.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: I see him more so, you know, as that pocket disruptor has a strong pressure rate as well, but more so as an early-down guy rather than a three-down lineman.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think a guy like Grace and Halton is interesting, if for no other reason, and I think maybe you have some versatility there to move him around the defensive line a
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: Again, he is going to be exclusively a third-down guy along the interior.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think the first step is pretty good if you can get him into those one-on-one situations where he's had time is where he can overwhelm guards with his quickness.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: But he's not going to be an extremely useful player on first and second down.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: situations.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, if you're playing with the lead and it's late in the fourth quarter, you know, where teams are in those passing situations consistently, he can be, but for the most part, he's going to be a situational past rusher.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then the last guy on our list, I don't know if you guys have noticed what we're talking about, 10 guys, every episode or top 10 guys is Aiden Kinyana and there hasn't been a lot of
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Was that BYU came to California?
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: has the frame, has the mass hit.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like he fits all of the baseline athletic measurements of Jeff Hathley.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: Once again, like Grayson Haltton and DJ J. J. out of Florida State, he fits the profile of an early down guy that could help in the run game.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: But his past rush, juice, is limited.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he's actually an older guy.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be 23, 24.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_00]: coming out of the draft and that's not necessarily something, you know, age-wise and you know, that's not necessarily the best threshold for, you know, John Eric Sullivan to take a look at, because if you look at, you know, the Green Bay Packers philosophy, they're usually the, you know, the youngest team in the league and Kenny Ono will actually bump up
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: that defensive line, you know, group age bracket and, you know, he's been in college for five years already, right, he doesn't have a lot of NFL or pro experience where I was compared to, you know,
- 45:24[SPEAKER_00]: maybe they bring him on later on in the draft UDFA type of guy to see how he does at training camp, but I mean, I don't know, you have four guys along the defense on the interior defense already, maybe you're adding one more to be a rotational guy, you can grab someone for cheap, infregency or sign someone else's developmental option.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: As a UDFA, maybe potentially like
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, really the only if the dolphins go into this off season and they did say, hey, we're good along the interior of the defensive line, we like what we have, you know, and the only thing that they want to do is replace like Benito Jones, you know, maybe somebody like him in the seventh round or as a UDFA makes makes sense.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: But Kenyana,
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: everything that we've said about the limitations of some of these guys as like a past rusher is probably even more magnified in him because as you mentioned this is a guy that's been at the college level for five years and if you're not popping production wise
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: by year four, year five, I mean, I for years three, I didn't even for you.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but I mean, yeah, if you're not popping by year three, four, five, I just don't know if it's going to happen at the NFL level.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right, well, Eric, thanks for joining us.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: Tonight, I think you guys for listening.
