- 0:00Speaker 1: I drove by Memorial Park on my way here, and
- 0:08Speaker 1: the wheels are in motion, the tiny flags marking the
- 0:11Speaker 1: fallen they're out. That catches your eye. The towers, the
- 0:17Speaker 1: towers that have the pictures and stories of the fallen.
- 0:23Speaker 1: What did Bill Williams tell us yesterday? Bill Williams of
- 0:26Speaker 1: Patriotic Productions rode along for the whole hour yesterday. I
- 0:29Speaker 1: think there are fifty of them now. They're all laid
- 0:33Speaker 1: out on the north side of Dodge Street there at
- 0:36Speaker 1: the foot of Memorial Park. First time I attended a
- 0:41Speaker 1: Patriotic Productions parade, it wound up at the Durham Museum
- 0:47Speaker 1: and the parking lot there was full. It was like
- 0:50Speaker 1: walking into a forest. These towers are I don't know.
- 0:53Speaker 1: They're seven or eight feet tall, I think, and they
- 0:56Speaker 1: have these wings, three wings I think, coming out extending
- 1:01Speaker 1: out from the center, and they hold all these pictures
- 1:04Speaker 1: and stories of those who have fallen in service to
- 1:08Speaker 1: the nation. It is mesmerizing. I just kept going from
- 1:11Speaker 1: the next to the next to the next. I just
- 1:13Speaker 1: couldn't stop. So those are all out there, and especially
- 1:18Speaker 1: if you're bringing kids to the festivities, let them soak
- 1:23Speaker 1: this in, you know. It can work. Peyton, you were
- 1:28Speaker 1: just telling us yesterday you were reaching back to I
- 1:31Speaker 1: think it was a childhood memory of being Was it
- 1:35Speaker 1: at an airport or where were you you were? You
- 1:38Speaker 1: were holding a sign for returning veterans from one of
- 1:41Speaker 1: the honor flights?
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:42Speaker 1: Do I have it right correct? This was at Eppley
- 1:45Speaker 1: here no more. Now you are at Apley Airfield returning of
- 1:47Speaker 1: an honor fly. Yeah. Yeah, Well, because it turns out
- 1:51Speaker 1: your grandparents from Red Oak, Iowa. No, Bill Williams from
- 1:55Speaker 1: Red Oak, Iowa, and so your family has been very
- 2:00Speaker 1: much in tune with patriotic productions over the years. So boy,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I highly encourage you to join us tonight and Scott
- 2:08Speaker 1: Vories will be at the microphone tonight for the presiding
- 2:11Speaker 1: over the festivities. It's rain or shine. Bill has said,
- 2:16Speaker 1: rain or shine. That includes unfurling the flag. Now, if
- 2:20Speaker 1: a thunderstorm breaks out right when it's time to unfurl
- 2:23Speaker 1: the flag, I don't know. Maybe the flag stays rolled up.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But the plan, the plan is to press on rain
- 2:30Speaker 1: or shine. Whatever happens, Come on, folks, Valley Forge. You know,
- 2:36Speaker 1: three months of brutal freezing conditions, we could do three
- 2:40Speaker 1: hours in the rain. If we need to tonight at
- 2:43Speaker 1: Memorial Park, I'll be there. Certainly. My employer retires Smart
- 2:47Speaker 1: as one of the main sponsors of the event, so
- 2:49Speaker 1: I will definitely be there. We hope to see you
- 2:53Speaker 1: as well, all right, if you've got any other way.
- 2:56Speaker 1: We had a couple of callers. We had Gym, a
- 2:58Speaker 1: gold star father who called in yesterday to reminisce with Bill.
- 3:04Speaker 1: We had Roger, speaking of reminiscing, who called in, whom
- 3:09Speaker 1: Bill had coached in basketball in high school and as
- 3:14Speaker 1: kind of hop we'd get some dirt on Bill Williams
- 3:16Speaker 1: on that one. We know Roger was all nice and
- 3:18Speaker 1: friendly and complimentary. But if you have any observations on
- 3:22Speaker 1: patriotic productions or Memorial Day in general, we're here for you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Four oh two, five, five, eight eleven ten comment at
- 3:29Speaker 1: kfab dot com or the talkback Mike on the iHeartRadio app.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But in the meantime, now I'm going to get back
- 3:35Speaker 1: to business for me this election cycle. Did you check
- 3:38Speaker 1: with Chip this morning? Folks?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Huh?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Are you going to the Check with Chip podcast at
- 3:43Speaker 1: kfab dot com. Somebody told me yesterday visiting about this.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Just tell them your three clicks away. So you go
- 3:51Speaker 1: to the kfab dot com website and there's one of
- 3:54Speaker 1: those icons up in the left corner, a menu icon.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You click on that, and then some post abilities roll
- 4:00Speaker 1: down the left side of your screen. Well, scroll down,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and then you click on podcasts. Okay, there's a whole
- 4:06Speaker 1: other batch of things that roll out for you. Scroll
- 4:09Speaker 1: down that, find my name and click on that. Those
- 4:12Speaker 1: are your three clicks, and you have arrived at my podcast.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So feel free to uh and oh, Peyton, I'm gonna
- 4:22Speaker 1: do it this weekend. It's a long holiday weekend. I'm
- 4:24Speaker 1: gonna do something you recommended the last time we were
- 4:27Speaker 1: together here a few weeks ago, that if you expect
- 4:31Speaker 1: anyone outside hardcore kfab listeners to ever hear these trees
- 4:37Speaker 1: falling in the forest that you're putting out there this podcast,
- 4:41Speaker 1: you got to be out on social media platforms, right.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So I've visited with a couple of people about I'm
- 4:45Speaker 1: gonna take the plunge Facebook and x and Instagram and
- 4:52Speaker 1: TikTok and you know I'm gonna Now I understand that
- 4:57Speaker 1: will probably draw some return fire. That's it's okay, that's good.
- 5:01Speaker 1: That will be Grist for future podcasts. Actually, I mean,
- 5:06Speaker 1: if you're going to be a missionary, you got to
- 5:09Speaker 1: go to where the people are that you want to reach.
- 5:11Speaker 1: You know, you can't just stay in your own cozy,
- 5:14Speaker 1: little echo chamber. There's a Catholic bishop, Robert Baron, who's
- 5:20Speaker 1: become a sensation on social media because he kind of
- 5:23Speaker 1: stumbled into it twenty years ago. But he went on
- 5:26Speaker 1: Reddit and I guess there's something on Reddit called ask
- 5:29Speaker 1: Me Anything, and he went in there as a Catholic bishop,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and he laughs about it. He said, first of all,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I barely knew what I was doing, and then I
- 5:38Speaker 1: got blasted by people with access to grind, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: on the Catholic Church. But if you could survive that,
- 5:45Speaker 1: he said, they got into some great conversations with great people.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I think the year that he did it, you sign
- 5:51Speaker 1: up for a year. I think Bernie Sanders might have
- 5:54Speaker 1: been first. And then he was number two, right behind
- 5:56Speaker 1: Bernie Sanders for the most engagement and that kind of
- 6:00Speaker 1: got him going as a social media phenomenon. But he so,
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, but he said he tells seminarians when he
- 6:12Speaker 1: used to teach it at a Catholic seminary he would say,
- 6:16Speaker 1: do you like sinners to the seminarians, Well, he said,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I hope so, because otherwise you're in the wrong business.
- 6:22Speaker 1: You've got to be willing to go out and gauge
- 6:24Speaker 1: with people who disagree with you might not see the
- 6:27Speaker 1: world the same way we do. In fact that that's
- 6:29Speaker 1: one of our main purposes here is to try to evangelize,
- 6:33Speaker 1: try to show people, Hey, you may want to rethink that.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We think we have a pretty good formula here. So anyway,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm going to take the plunge. We'll see what happens. Peyton,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'll let you know next week what kind of reaction. Actually,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the worst thing at all, the worst thing of all
- 6:47Speaker 1: would be the kid no reaction, right, So we'll see
- 6:52Speaker 1: what happens. And by the way, I want to hear
- 6:55Speaker 1: from Blue Doughters right here, right now. Four h two
- 6:58Speaker 1: five five eight eleven ten comment at kfab dot com
- 7:02Speaker 1: talk back Mike on the iHeartRadio app. Those of you
- 7:05Speaker 1: who've heard me before, you know that some people have
- 7:08Speaker 1: criticized me for this, but I haven't live and let
- 7:11Speaker 1: live approach to talk radio. I'm very passionate about politics
- 7:15Speaker 1: and my positions and uh, but you will get to
- 7:19Speaker 1: have your say. My favorite comment that comes back to
- 7:21Speaker 1: me is either to me directly or through a third party.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I like listening to him on the radio.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I often disagree with him, but he has good reasons
- 7:32Speaker 1: for his positions, and he lets other people have their say.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Somebody who disagrees sees it differently. He doesn't rip their
- 7:38Speaker 1: face off. You know, No, you will have your say.
- 7:41Speaker 1: We may not agree, but I always think it's helpful
- 7:44Speaker 1: for the vast majority of folks listening, especially those who
- 7:48Speaker 1: maybe haven't made up their minds. I think it's helpful
- 7:51Speaker 1: to have strong positions on both sides of an issue.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Have it out, take take, take your best shot. I'll
- 7:58Speaker 1: take my best shot and will let the listeners ultimately
- 8:00Speaker 1: decide what they think. All right, Because, of course my
- 8:04Speaker 1: crusade is to turn the blue dot red. I know, Well,
- 8:10Speaker 1: does that mean you want Winter take all in Nebraska? Well? Yeah,
- 8:14Speaker 1: I think as long as the rest of the country
- 8:15Speaker 1: is doing it that way, we should as well. I
- 8:18Speaker 1: would love for the whole country to do it the
- 8:20Speaker 1: way we do the proportional districts, that if you win
- 8:24Speaker 1: the district, you win the electoral vote. Because I look
- 8:27Speaker 1: at California and other places and think, oh, there are
- 8:31Speaker 1: lots of electoral votes we could win as Republicans in
- 8:34Speaker 1: those states. But if they're going Winter take all, then
- 8:38Speaker 1: we should as well. But that's not what my podcasts about.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I'm trying to change hearts and minds, and I think
- 8:45Speaker 1: we have some heavy lifting to do as Republicans. Or
- 8:48Speaker 1: I'm sixty three, those of us my vintage and older,
- 8:53Speaker 1: we're going to be dying off, and we've got to
- 8:57Speaker 1: get the Peyton Highlucks of the world. We've got to
- 9:01Speaker 1: make sure that we're getting the next generation taught the
- 9:06Speaker 1: lessons of American history and tradition, and well, for me,
- 9:12Speaker 1: it's natural law at four thousand years of Judaeo Christian teaching.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That's the basis of our society, our constitutional, democratic republic.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So I along those lines, I understand that the Democratic
- 9:30Speaker 1: Party has released its so called autopsy of the twenty
- 9:34Speaker 1: twenty four election. Have you seen this? Have you heard
- 9:37Speaker 1: anything about it? I have not read one hundred and
- 9:40Speaker 1: ninety pages or something. I will not have time to
- 9:43Speaker 1: read that. I've heard some commentary about it, and the
- 9:47Speaker 1: gist of it seems to be poor old Joe Biden
- 9:51Speaker 1: they're throwing him under the bus. Well, it was the
- 9:54Speaker 1: white House, the euphemism. The white House didn't give Kamala
- 9:59Speaker 1: Harris an enough play as vice president, so that when
- 10:03Speaker 1: she was thrust into the role of candidate, it was
- 10:07Speaker 1: just too short, too small a runway for her to
- 10:11Speaker 1: do what needed to be done. It was the white
- 10:13Speaker 1: House's fault. And you know, she should have been given
- 10:19Speaker 1: better play, She should have been better prepared. She should
- 10:22Speaker 1: the white House's fault. Not much focus apparently on policy,
- 10:27Speaker 1: on issues, on how the border was handled, on do
- 10:32Speaker 1: you know most people, including Democrats, think there should be
- 10:36Speaker 1: voter ID you should have to show an ID to vote.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Most Americans, even a lot of Democrats. I don't think
- 10:44Speaker 1: it's right for men, biological men to be in women's sports.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Not just that it hurts fair play, it's dangerous for
- 10:52Speaker 1: the participants, especially in contact sports. And you know, on
- 10:57Speaker 1: and on a list of issues on which Trump capitalized
- 11:01Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. So the reason I ask that
- 11:04Speaker 1: is I'm still hearing Rosen Amber from yesterday on these airwaves.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I caught the last part of their interview with Scott
- 11:12Speaker 1: Voorhies was right before I came on at ten o'clock,
- 11:15Speaker 1: they're pro lifers talking about the Choose Life Now petition
- 11:19Speaker 1: that's floating around, and I have more to say about
- 11:22Speaker 1: that as well. But my initial thought is about Denise Powell,
- 11:28Speaker 1: who scored what some considered an upset. I guess i'll
- 11:32Speaker 1: count myself. I thought John Cavanaugh would be the Democratic
- 11:35Speaker 1: nominee for the second District House seat, but Denise Powell
- 11:39Speaker 1: defeated him for that nomination, and she was one of
- 11:45Speaker 1: her lead issues was abortion. Why these mug extremists and
- 11:50Speaker 1: their anti abortion views and measures and efforts, and somebody's
- 11:56Speaker 1: got to get in there and stop that. Well, was
- 12:00Speaker 1: it one of the dodgeball movies where they say it's
- 12:03Speaker 1: a bold strategy, Let's see how it plays out. Because
- 12:07Speaker 1: Lee Terry always used to say that in this purple district,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it was the pro life Democrats who always got him
- 12:14Speaker 1: across the finish line that provided the margin of victory
- 12:18Speaker 1: that they just couldn't, you know, And many of them tried. Well,
- 12:23Speaker 1: my dad, my late father, lifelong Democrat, Irish Catholic Democrat,
- 12:28Speaker 1: that was the legacy formula, but he couldn't get there.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I think Lyndon Johnson for president and maybe John Lindsay
- 12:40Speaker 1: for the state legislature in Nebraska. Were two of the
- 12:43Speaker 1: last Democrats that my dad voted for for offices in
- 12:47Speaker 1: which abortion was an issue because he was pro life.
- 12:50Speaker 1: He's pro life Catholic, and I can't get there. It's
- 12:53Speaker 1: like voting for someone who's pro slavery in the eighteen fifties.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I can't do it. So here comes Denise Powell. It
- 13:01Speaker 1: was the lead issue in the primary. Now is she
- 13:04Speaker 1: going to try to pull an Abigail Spaanburger, the current
- 13:09Speaker 1: governor of Virginia, who was a congresswoman from Virginia, ran
- 13:16Speaker 1: ran for governor as a moderate. Now, I did a
- 13:19Speaker 1: podcast about that recently, so you know, if you want
- 13:22Speaker 1: more detail on that. But what I did was, I
- 13:25Speaker 1: just did sort of I tried to do a blind
- 13:27Speaker 1: neutral search. Artificial intelligence co Pilot is Microsoft's artificial intelligence
- 13:34Speaker 1: search thing, and I just tried to type in, you know,
- 13:39Speaker 1: the assertion is that Spanburger ran as a moderate but
- 13:43Speaker 1: governs as a more liberal, progressive left winger. And the
- 13:49Speaker 1: co Pilot narrative that came back, you know, kind of
- 13:52Speaker 1: gave chapter in first of how well, yes that is true.
- 13:56Speaker 1: These were her positions during the campaign. This is what
- 13:59Speaker 1: she's done as governor. Now, when artificial intelligence comes up
- 14:05Speaker 1: with something, it's scanning what's out there. So you know,
- 14:09Speaker 1: it's drawing, I imagine, from some conservative sources. But what
- 14:14Speaker 1: it will do, because I've had this happen on other issues,
- 14:17Speaker 1: it will also come back. Now, on the other hand,
- 14:19Speaker 1: there are those who say, you know, and it'll give
- 14:21Speaker 1: you the other side of it. There was no other side.
- 14:24Speaker 1: There was no other side. Apparently there are not any voices,
- 14:28Speaker 1: even on the left, who are trying to throw cold
- 14:33Speaker 1: water on the I'll just call it the fact that
- 14:37Speaker 1: Spanberger ran as a moderate but now veered way left
- 14:42Speaker 1: in governing in Virginia. And so will Denise Powell try
- 14:49Speaker 1: to pull a spamburger here? Will she moderate? Will she
- 14:52Speaker 1: will she move to the middle for the general election. Now,
- 14:55Speaker 1: I don't mean to suggest that Republicans do the same thing.
- 14:58Speaker 1: You know, if you're a Republican, you're under the right,
- 15:01Speaker 1: you know, because the hardcore voters, the primary voters on
- 15:04Speaker 1: both sides, tend to be the more hardcore voters in
- 15:07Speaker 1: each constituency. So you're a Democrat, you run to the left,
- 15:11Speaker 1: you're a Republican, you run to the right, and then
- 15:13Speaker 1: you moderate, you gravitate back toward the middle, toward more
- 15:16Speaker 1: moderate positions for the general election, because you need to
- 15:19Speaker 1: attract some voters in the middle and on the other
- 15:22Speaker 1: side as well as on your side to win the election.
- 15:25Speaker 1: That's a tried and true formula in American politics. So
- 15:30Speaker 1: after hearing about, not reading, but hearing about this autopsy
- 15:34Speaker 1: done by the Democratic Party, what's gonna happen? They don't
- 15:40Speaker 1: seem to, you know, the Democratic Party used to kind
- 15:45Speaker 1: of whisper about abortion. The Bill Clinton take on abortion. Well, gosh,
- 15:52Speaker 1: it's lamentable that it happens, but let's keep it safe, legal,
- 15:56Speaker 1: and rare. That was the Clinton formula, or a long
- 15:59Speaker 1: way away from that. That is way back in the
- 16:02Speaker 1: rearview mirror. It's not even visible anymore in the rear
- 16:06Speaker 1: view mirror. Now it's loud and proud on abortion. Lead
- 16:11Speaker 1: with abortion. Will Denise Powell do that in the general election?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Is there polling? Is there evidence to show that maybe
- 16:20Speaker 1: that could win in a general election in Nebraska, certainly
- 16:24Speaker 1: wouldn't win in the big third, might be a tough go.
- 16:27Speaker 1: In the first district. You've got Lincoln. But then you've
- 16:31Speaker 1: got all that surrounding area of eastern Nebraska pro life areas.
- 16:37Speaker 1: But in the second, in our purple district, in our
- 16:39Speaker 1: swing district, in our district, with all the blue dots signs,
- 16:43Speaker 1: could that be a winning formula to be aggressive and
- 16:46Speaker 1: lead with abortion? What do you think? Four oh two, five, five,
- 16:50Speaker 1: eight eleven ten comment at kfab dot com, talkback Mike
- 16:55Speaker 1: on the iHeartRadio app and rosen Amber. We're in here,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you know, I know some people are thinking. And Scott
- 17:00Speaker 1: was playing Devil's Advocate with him. Wait a minute, Wait
- 17:02Speaker 1: a minute. We just had two major abortion measures on
- 17:06Speaker 1: the last ballot. One was for abortion, one was against abortion.
- 17:12Speaker 1: The one for abortion lost. The one against abortion restricting
- 17:18Speaker 1: abortion succeeded that one one. So just enjoy your victory,
- 17:22Speaker 1: you want why are you coming back again, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 1: agitating and upsetting people over this contentious issue. Well, rosen
- 17:30Speaker 1: Amber correctly pointed out that the measure that passed still
- 17:38Speaker 1: left an exception large enough for a truck to drive through.
- 17:43Speaker 1: You can still get an abortion in Nebraska for so
- 17:48Speaker 1: called medical reasons. Medical health reasons. Well, that opens the
- 17:52Speaker 1: door up to anything, really, So there really wasn't much
- 17:58Speaker 1: of the petition that's going around now is a more
- 18:01Speaker 1: thorough clampdown on abortion. I signed it more than a
- 18:04Speaker 1: year ago, the Choose Life Now petition. You can go
- 18:08Speaker 1: to Chooselife noow dot net. You want to educate yourself
- 18:11Speaker 1: ab how to find out, well, why are they messing
- 18:13Speaker 1: with this again? You can learn more about the why
- 18:17Speaker 1: of it? What, why is this needed? Why do pro
- 18:19Speaker 1: lifers believe this is necessary? And if you want to
- 18:22Speaker 1: pursue it, you can You could pursue it that way,
- 18:25Speaker 1: or you can find out where you can go to
- 18:27Speaker 1: sign this petition. But there is still some heavy lifting
- 18:32Speaker 1: that needs to be done. If you're if you're a
- 18:33Speaker 1: pro lifer, if you UH, there's still some heavy lifting
- 18:37Speaker 1: that needs to be done on this issue. I'm sad
- 18:39Speaker 1: to say that a lot of the groups, and I'm
- 18:42Speaker 1: not going to call anybody out today, will see maybe
- 18:44Speaker 1: some will warm up to the cause as we get
- 18:46Speaker 1: closer to it.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Uh.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Some groups that supported the previous measure are not supporting
- 18:51Speaker 1: this one. Maybe we can get them on board in time.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Patriotic bumpers, We'll stick with the patriotic bumpers again. Here
- 18:59Speaker 1: we are on the e of Memorial Day weekend. We've
- 19:02Speaker 1: got the big event tonight, Battle of New Orleans. Andrew
- 19:05Speaker 1: Jackson British kept it coming, but there weren't as many
- 19:10Speaker 1: as there were before. We fired once more and then
- 19:13Speaker 1: began to run it on down the Mississippi to the
- 19:16Speaker 1: Gulf of Mexico. Battle of New Orleans, Patriotic Music. It's

- 20:52Speaker 3: and sivill As she moderates it doesn't matter if she does,
- 20:55Speaker 3: she'll go right back to the Democrat philosophy of disruption.

- 21:08Speaker 3: order concerning the Cherokee. The Cherokee won and said they
- 21:12Speaker 3: will not move from Georgia. He said they either move
- 21:15Speaker 3: or guy where they stand. And he told the Supreme Court,
- 21:18Speaker 3: if you want to fight it, get your own army.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Good luck and force.
- 21:21Speaker 3: They're talking about exactly and now they're disrupting, talking about
- 21:25Speaker 3: we're going to wipe out the Supreme Court. We're going
- 21:27Speaker 3: to put one hundred of them in, fifty of them in.
- 21:29Speaker 3: We'll destroy it because it's not going our way. Their
- 21:32Speaker 3: patron saint is Andrew Jackson. They're not going to change.
- 21:35Speaker 3: The Democrat philosophy is if we don't get our way,
- 21:39Speaker 3: we'll tear it down. There's I'm about tearing down in
- 21:41Speaker 3: the US. And it happened had we had a civil
- 21:44Speaker 3: war and it tore apart and we never really did
- 21:48Speaker 3: come back together. But there's a history. They're never going
- 21:51Speaker 3: to change. They have their disruption and they don't quit.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So Julie before before I let you go. You're saying,
- 21:59Speaker 1: even if Denise Powell talks some more moderate game in
- 22:04Speaker 1: the general election campaign, don't buy it.
- 22:07Speaker 3: If Jackson shall go hard less andrews right. Andrew Jackson said,
- 22:12Speaker 3: I'll buy what other Supreme Court says when I went
- 22:15Speaker 3: against him. Oh, I'll show you right. No, it's good.
- 22:18Speaker 3: There is so no And we're a uni camel anyway,
- 22:22Speaker 3: so we know we can't copy the rest of the
- 22:26Speaker 3: country because they're not a unit camel. There are two
- 22:28Speaker 3: different houses. But that's the way I see it. She's
- 22:32Speaker 3: what she is. She's not going to change. What they
- 22:35Speaker 3: say and what they do usually turned out to be
- 22:38Speaker 3: two separate things.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Julie watched them there it is.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Julie, thank you very much for your call four oh two,
- 22:44Speaker 1: five five, eight eleven ten, comment at kfab dot com
- 22:47Speaker 1: or the talkback Mike on the iHeartRadio app. Julia, that
- 22:51Speaker 1: was really timely. The Battle of New Orleans was the
- 22:53Speaker 1: bumper music going into the break. But Julie came out
- 22:56Speaker 1: firing against Andrew Jackson for his defiance of Supreme Court.
- 23:00Speaker 1: It did happen, and she said, Denise polland modern day Democrats,
- 23:04Speaker 1: they're going to do the same thing. They're gonna Well,
- 23:07Speaker 1: they want to completely overhaul the Supreme Court, add more justices.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Packet FDR tried to do that failed in his time.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Even fellow Democrats said, now that that's a bridge too far,
- 23:19Speaker 1: that's an overreach. But the Court did back off and
- 23:24Speaker 1: allow much of the new Deal to proceed. Well basically
- 23:28Speaker 1: socialism in America. So he lost the battle, but won
- 23:32Speaker 1: that war. Uh and uh, Julie's right. I mean we've
- 23:36Speaker 1: got Hakeem Jefferies. Actually I've got a statement of his
- 23:39Speaker 1: I want to get into related to sports. We'll see
- 23:42Speaker 1: how the clock treats us today. Meanwhile, Rob wants to
- 23:45Speaker 1: get in on the conversation. Rob, welcome to the show.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Hey kfab freaking contributor, Rob.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Here Kfabe Hall of Famer Rob.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Yes, huh, yeah, well that is true too, Yeah, that
- 23:56Speaker 2: is absolutely true. You know, I put a I put
- 23:59Speaker 2: it inne Apart, I put a Crystal Roads sign in
- 24:02Speaker 2: my yard, uh several weeks ago, obviously.
- 24:09Speaker 1: No, but that the ground is shaking beneath me at
- 24:12Speaker 1: this moment. Do tell.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Sometimes you have to give up a foot to grab
- 24:19Speaker 2: a uh, you know, grab a lyle. But uh, here's
- 24:24Speaker 2: why I I that was to pull I wanted to
- 24:27Speaker 2: pull votes away from John Cavanaugh. That Cavanaugh. Not that
- 24:32Speaker 2: John Cavanaugh is moderate in any way, but he is
- 24:36Speaker 2: articulately moderate. You know. Here, here's the deal, Lee, Terry's
- 24:42Speaker 2: margins kept getting thinner and thinner until you found somebody
- 24:46Speaker 2: like grad Ashford who could speak moderately. Now was grad
- 24:51Speaker 2: Ashford as radical left? No, but he could, he was.
- 24:55Speaker 2: He could have a moderate voice, and that was enough
- 24:57Speaker 2: to push push Terry over. Uh. John Kavanaugh had couldn't
- 25:02Speaker 2: speak moderately enough that he could have no use in voting.
- 25:08Speaker 1: You're you're saying he could have been pulled off a
- 25:10Speaker 1: successful Spenburger talk moderately, but then govern hard left right?
- 25:16Speaker 2: However, Uh be it Crystal Road, Well, that's a whole
- 25:20Speaker 2: other story. Uh, and I have plenty I mean, well,
- 25:23Speaker 2: I won't go down that path. But lots of attorneys,
- 25:26Speaker 2: because of her current office, have no use for her,
- 25:30Speaker 2: nor judges. But no, that was Ah, here's the deal.
- 25:37Speaker 2: There's a stark difference between Brinker Harding and and already
- 25:45Speaker 2: forgot her name? Thank you? Yes, yes, she'll be in
- 25:50Speaker 2: the Uh she'll be in the Uh. Yeah. The footnote
- 25:54Speaker 2: after a while. But uh no, uh no, there, there
- 25:58Speaker 2: is just going to be too much of a difference
- 26:00Speaker 2: for people to ignore. And you know, she is a
- 26:05Speaker 2: she is definitely loyal to her beliefs. She is not
- 26:07Speaker 2: going to moderate. She is just gonna say, uh, vote
- 26:12Speaker 2: for me. Oh you think I'm wrong? Now you really
- 26:14Speaker 2: have to vote for me or else they'll be punishment.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Okay, all right, well, thank you.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Rob.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Frequent KFAB contributor and Hall of Fame listener, Rob. There
- 26:24Speaker 1: he threw me.
- 26:25Speaker 2: There.
- 26:26Speaker 1: He shocked me a little bit when the Crystal Road signed,
- 26:28Speaker 1: but then he had his strategicy for doing that. The
- 26:33Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I think it's going to be interesting. Part
- 26:37Speaker 1: of the challenge, part of the mission for Brinker Harding
- 26:40Speaker 1: the Republican nominee, of course, is and this is what
- 26:42Speaker 1: I said in my podcast, he needs to make sure
- 26:45Speaker 1: that Denise Powell owns the hard left agenda. I don't
- 26:50Speaker 1: think that will be a winner. I and I know
- 26:56Speaker 1: Donald Trump is what is he one and two? He's
- 26:59Speaker 1: one one but lost two in the second district. As
- 27:04Speaker 1: far as the electoral vote goes, I think it if Trump,
- 27:07Speaker 1: well we're on the ballot this time around. I think
- 27:09Speaker 1: he'd win in the second district. I think he'd win.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I think now this war in Iran is complicating things.
- 27:17Speaker 1: If that is still dragging on well into the summer
- 27:19Speaker 1: and the fall, that could change the calculus. If that
- 27:22Speaker 1: gets wrapped up in the next few weeks or so,
- 27:25Speaker 1: like let's let's say by the fourth of July, that's
- 27:27Speaker 1: all wrapped up and done, and that's in the rear
- 27:29Speaker 1: view mirror, and then the gas prices are coming down,
- 27:32Speaker 1: and you know it's not eclipsing all the other accomplishments
- 27:37Speaker 1: of the Trump administration. I think he'd be in real
- 27:41Speaker 1: solid shape. And I think an agenda of I hate Trump.
- 27:47Speaker 1: You know that's your number one, number two, and number
- 27:49Speaker 1: three items in your campaign platform. Hate Trump. I really
- 27:53Speaker 1: hate Trump. I absolutely hate Trump. And then I want
- 27:58Speaker 1: open season. Anything goes in sports, even if you're a
- 28:01Speaker 1: biological man, you can be in women's sports. You know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: if that's what you're pushing. I think that we should
- 28:09Speaker 1: have amnesty, that we should stop the deportations, the undoing
- 28:14Speaker 1: of the policies of the Biden administration when it comes
- 28:19Speaker 1: to immigration. You know, if that's what you're going to
- 28:22Speaker 1: run on, I don't think that'll be a winner. I
- 28:25Speaker 1: don't think if anybody who has to own. That's why
- 28:27Speaker 1: I think it's there's a chance to turn the blue
- 28:29Speaker 1: dot red because the left, the Democratic Party has moved
- 28:35Speaker 1: so far to the left, the center of gravity is
- 28:37Speaker 1: so far to the left that I think there's a
- 28:40Speaker 1: chance to turn that blue dot red at least a
- 28:43Speaker 1: deeper shade of purple in this go round. But you've
- 28:48Speaker 1: got to make sure that Denise Powell she may proudly
- 28:53Speaker 1: own the hard left agenda. If she doesn't, then it
- 28:58Speaker 1: has to be tuned on her by brinker harding that so,
- 29:04Speaker 1: as Julie says, there's no bait and switch, there's no no.
- 29:07Speaker 1: You need to know exactly what you're going to get
- 29:10Speaker 1: in governance if this person is elected. Four oh two, five, five,
- 29:14Speaker 1: eight eleven ten, comment at kfab dot com. Talk back
- 29:18Speaker 1: Mike on the iHeartRadio app. I mentioned Hakeem Jefferies, and
- 29:25Speaker 1: I don't know, as a Nebraska football fan, maybe I
- 29:28Speaker 1: should be applauding this and encouraging it. So there's we've
- 29:33Speaker 1: got the kerfuffle across the nation about redistricting. And then
- 29:37Speaker 1: it took an extra twist when the Supreme court said, well,
- 29:41Speaker 1: whatever you do with jerrymandering and drawing up districts, yes,
- 29:46Speaker 1: political parties try to look for an advantage. You still
- 29:49Speaker 1: have to follow the basic rule that there has to
- 29:51Speaker 1: be one solid chunk of geographic territory with a minimal
- 29:57Speaker 1: number of odd gaps or tangent er things. But yes,
- 30:01Speaker 1: you know, drawing boundaries for political advantage political party advantage
- 30:06Speaker 1: is one thing, but you absolutely cannot draw boundaries for
- 30:11Speaker 1: racial reasons to create racial majority districts. And well that
- 30:18Speaker 1: caused Hakeem Jeffries. He's, of course US representative from New York.
- 30:21Speaker 1: He's a Democrat, he's a black man. He's a minority
- 30:24Speaker 1: leader for the Democrats in Congress, in the House. He
- 30:28Speaker 1: is calling on athletes to boycott schools in the Southeastern
- 30:33Speaker 1: Conference if that school is in a state that is
- 30:38Speaker 1: redrawing electoral districts in ways that eliminate majority black districts. Now,
- 30:47Speaker 1: if you're not a sports fan the Southeastern Conference, it's basically, well,
- 30:50Speaker 1: it is what it says. The South East, it's the
- 30:53Speaker 1: Deep South from Texas and Oklahoma now are in the
- 30:57Speaker 1: SEC as it's known everything east of them and south
- 31:02Speaker 1: of the Mason Dixon line. That's your Southeastern Southeastern Conference
- 31:05Speaker 1: the SEC. Now, the SEC is very good at sports,
- 31:10Speaker 1: especially football, and so as I say, as a Nebraska fan, well,
- 31:14Speaker 1: maybe I should be amployed. That's right, that's right, black
- 31:17Speaker 1: blue chip athletes, you don't want to go to the SEC,
- 31:20Speaker 1: come here to Nebraska instead. I suppose it could provide
- 31:23Speaker 1: a competitive advantage for us, but actually no, I am
- 31:27Speaker 1: not rooting for that to happen. I hope that the
- 31:31Speaker 1: youngsters have better judgment than their elders in Congress on
- 31:36Speaker 1: this issue. I wrote about this in my books, and I.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Just I.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Hate it. I hate it when the sports world is politicized. Now,
- 31:51Speaker 1: you know, the left says, well, well, these racially jerrymandered districts,
- 31:56Speaker 1: these racially drawn districs, they're necessary to combat the lingering
- 32:01Speaker 1: negative effects of a century of slavery followed by a
- 32:04Speaker 1: century of segregation, especially in the South. Now that's a
- 32:08Speaker 1: valid debate, that a valid debate to have in the
- 32:12Speaker 1: political arena. Please don't tarnish sports. Don't force this on
- 32:18Speaker 1: me as a sports fan. Don't put this burden on
- 32:21Speaker 1: these young athletes. The uh, it's not fair to them.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I have more to say about that. I think we
- 32:30Speaker 1: have to take another break, don't we, Payton, and then
- 32:32Speaker 1: we're going to be in the final segment already. Oh
- 32:34Speaker 1: my goodness. Oh we've got bread on the line as well.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Welcome to the show.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Hi, gentlemen, good morning. So we're talking about this issue
- 32:42Speaker 4: Brinkerhearting in the second congressional district. Marine Galindo is a
- 32:48Speaker 4: congressional candidate in the thirty fifth district of Texas. She
- 32:53Speaker 4: says he's going to take ice detention facilities and detain Zionists.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I've heard some commentary right that.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Yeah, Graham Plattner and Maine who is running against Susan Collins,
- 33:10Speaker 4: the guy who's got a Nazi prison camp tattoo on
- 33:14Speaker 4: his chest, and Goff talked about bulgarities and public restrooms.
- 33:20Speaker 4: I apologize about the sirens here, but anyway, this is
- 33:24Speaker 4: where they're at. So this is where the left is at.
- 33:27Speaker 4: And if brinker Harding can just talk about these things
- 33:30Speaker 4: and point out all this crazy stuff, I think that's
- 33:34Speaker 4: a good thing.
- 33:35Speaker 1: So all right, well, Brett, thanks, Yeah, she's got to
- 33:38Speaker 1: own this stuff that's going on around the country and
- 33:40Speaker 1: what or at least make her disavow it, make her
- 33:42Speaker 1: disavow some of these fellow Democrats. Now Julie says, yeah, well,
- 33:46Speaker 1: whatever she says, don't buy it. You get You're gonna
- 33:50Speaker 1: get hard left governance out of this person if this
- 33:54Speaker 1: person wins the seat. Four oh two, five, five, eight
- 33:58Speaker 1: eleven ten comment kfab dot com or the talkback Mike
- 34:02Speaker 1: on the iHeartRadio app. Yeah, the reference to the Zionists
- 34:08Speaker 1: and so forth. That reminds me. This guy, Thomas Massey.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I really hadn't paid that much attention to him. I
- 34:14Speaker 1: thought he was kind of a principal libertarian, usually voted
- 34:18Speaker 1: Republican and occasionally got cranky. Actually I shared his negative
- 34:22Speaker 1: view the Big Beautiful Bill. Had I been in Congress,
- 34:25Speaker 1: I probably would have voted for it for the tax cuts,
- 34:28Speaker 1: but I would have called it the bub instead of
- 34:30Speaker 1: the BBB, the Big Ugly Bill. You know, there's a
- 34:33Speaker 1: lot of business as usual spending in there that Massey decried.
- 34:36Speaker 1: But what I saw from him so on a link.
- 34:40Speaker 1: This is the guy that went down in Kentucky, the
- 34:42Speaker 1: incumbent who lost in Kentucky, and the day of the election,
- 34:48Speaker 1: he sent out a text message purporting to show an
- 34:51Speaker 1: endorsement by Donald Trump. Well, it was an endorsement from
- 34:54Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. Okay, Trump, most Trump endorsed his opponent.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Trump said, a massy Massy's ors congressman ever in history
- 35:02Speaker 1: of the country, you know. And but he put out
- 35:06Speaker 1: a text message leaving the impression that he was endorsed
- 35:11Speaker 1: by Trump. I thought, you know, I don't whatever your
- 35:14Speaker 1: policies are, whatever, you that that's a character flaw. Sorry,
- 35:19Speaker 1: there's no way to finesse that one. That's an outright lie.
- 35:25Speaker 1: And then and then he made the comment, Yeah, I
- 35:27Speaker 1: conceded to my opponent. I had a hard time tracking
- 35:29Speaker 1: him down in Tel Aviv. What a reference to anti Semitism?
- 35:35Speaker 1: That's your sign off. Well, we're gonna accentuate the positive today.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Some more patriotic music for you to celebrate the Memorial
- 35:42Speaker 1: Day weekend. Eve. We'll come back for the final segment.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Chip Maxwell in for Jeene Stothard, Peyton Hilox at the controls.
- 35:50Speaker 1: It's the KFAB comment line on news radio eleven to
- 35:53Speaker 1: ten KFAB. The flags are out at Memorial Park, the
- 36:08Speaker 1: tiny ones marking the fallen. The towers are at the
- 36:13Speaker 1: remembrance Towers with the pictures and stories of those who
- 36:17Speaker 1: have fallen those who have given the ultimate, the last,
- 36:21Speaker 1: true measure of devotion to the nation. Chip Maxwell in
- 36:25Speaker 1: for the honorable Gene Stothard on the KFAB comment line
- 36:28Speaker 1: on news radio eleven to ten. KFAB producer Peyton Hilock
- 36:31Speaker 1: is at the controls. You can participate by dialing four
- 36:34Speaker 1: oh two, five, five, eight eleven ten, comment at kfab
- 36:38Speaker 1: dot com, or there's the talkback mic on the iHeartRadio app.
- 36:43Speaker 1: So some patriotic bumpers here to get us in the
- 36:45Speaker 1: mood for Memorial Day weekend. I don't know what the
- 36:48Speaker 1: weather's going to do. My phone's telling me it may
- 36:50Speaker 1: rain tonight, but rain or shine. The show goes on
- 36:55Speaker 1: tonight at Memorial Park, courtesy of Patriotic Product. So we were, well,
- 37:04Speaker 1: we've got a few juggling, a few balls here, all
- 37:07Speaker 1: of it dedicated to turning the blue dot red. But
- 37:11Speaker 1: this congressional campaign, now, well, who's going to define the
- 37:17Speaker 1: Democratic candidate's agenda? And how will the Democratic candidate try
- 37:21Speaker 1: to define it? How will brink or Herding the Republican
- 37:24Speaker 1: try to define it if there's a divergence there, and
- 37:27Speaker 1: what will the public ultimately decide? Now, related issue on
- 37:34Speaker 1: voting in districts and so forth. Is Hakeem Jefferies of
- 37:37Speaker 1: New York, Congressman from New York telling black athletes don't
- 37:40Speaker 1: go to SEC schools if they are in states that
- 37:43Speaker 1: are redrawing their districts to eliminate majority black districts. I
- 37:48Speaker 1: don't I don't care about liberal or conservative. I just
- 37:53Speaker 1: don't want to put that kind of burden on young athletes.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Don't lay that on them, and don't tarnish sports. Sports
- 37:59Speaker 1: is supposed to be a player where we can go
- 38:02Speaker 1: and leave the baggage of life outside the stadium, have
- 38:07Speaker 1: a few hours of entertainment where people who normally might
- 38:11Speaker 1: disagree on redistricting or taxes or immigration or whatever can
- 38:18Speaker 1: rise above all that and link arms and become way
- 38:22Speaker 1: too invested in shouting ourselves orts for our players and
- 38:28Speaker 1: teams to succeed. You know, as big Red fans, we
- 38:33Speaker 1: have enough to worry about Peyton sitting across from me, respent,
- 38:37Speaker 1: resplendent in his scarlet red sweatshirt with Nebraska emblazoned across
- 38:43Speaker 1: the front of it. We've got enough to worry about.
- 38:46Speaker 1: We've got I'm sorry, folks, we have an underperforming head coach.
- 38:49Speaker 1: We have a new quarterback, we have new coaches for
- 38:51Speaker 1: the offensive line, the safeties, and the entire defense. We
- 38:54Speaker 1: have three teams on schedule from last season's college football playoffs,
- 38:59Speaker 1: including the last two national champions We've got enough to
- 39:02Speaker 1: worry about without throwing politics into the mix. And yes,
- 39:06Speaker 1: I know, maybe it would help us in some of
- 39:08Speaker 1: the blue chip athletes eschewed the SEC and came to
- 39:12Speaker 1: Nebraska instead. But no, I want to keep racial politics
- 39:16Speaker 1: out of sports, especially college sports. Let the young athletes
- 39:20Speaker 1: be athletes, Let the fans be fans. Let sports be
- 39:23Speaker 1: the healthy and healing outlet it should be in our society. Oh,
- 39:28Speaker 1: we got Calf on the line. Let's get Kaf in
- 39:30Speaker 1: here before we run on time. Calf, Welcome to the show.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Hi.
- 39:34Speaker 5: I just wanted to lead you with a quote from
- 39:37Speaker 5: Mike Rosen, who is a conservative commentator on KOLA in
- 39:42Speaker 5: Denver radio. For years he always said party trump person.
- 39:50Speaker 5: In other words, look at what the party platform is
- 39:55Speaker 5: and what their history has been, not what the candidate
- 39:59Speaker 5: running for this is saying, but pay attention to the
- 40:03Speaker 5: party they're affiliated with.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Kaff wise words, thank you. I have always believed that
- 40:09Speaker 1: you know Pete Ricketts tried that. When Pete Ricketts first ran,
- 40:12Speaker 1: he took on Ben Nelson for the Senate. He lost.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Nelson won convincingly. Pete put together one of the best
- 40:19Speaker 1: ads I thought I ever saw it. He knocks on it.
- 40:23Speaker 1: There's a clink, clink, clink, like he's knocking on the
- 40:25Speaker 1: inside of your TV screen to get your attention. Hey,
- 40:28Speaker 1: I just want to remind you of something. Ben Nelson
- 40:31Speaker 1: can present himself as a moderate, but you know that
- 40:36Speaker 1: if he goes back to Washington, D C. And then
- 40:39Speaker 1: you see pictures of Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy and
- 40:42Speaker 1: you know, Democratic leaders in the Senate at that time,
- 40:46Speaker 1: that's where he's going to line up on the issues.
- 40:49Speaker 1: I've always thought that that was an excellent argument. It
- 40:53Speaker 1: often rarely gets much traction though. Voters just they just
- 40:56Speaker 1: feel comfortable with the incumbent. They vote for the incumbent.
- 41:00Speaker 1: But cav I think it's an excellent argument. I think
