- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:17presented by Sea Kick. This episode 514.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Korne. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes. Nate.
- 0:28Hey, Hi. How you there?
- 0:33Hi. Yeah, there.
- 0:38Start off buddy, I know you. I I feel like this is your
- 0:42episode. I feel like this is all you.
- 0:44I don't want to start it off dude, but I look, I was in a
- 0:52good place like a week ago, not even like 3 days ago.
- 0:58And then all this stuff comes out of Sox camp and you know
- 1:02what? This just, I mean, this isn't
- 1:04just bad for, for Reds, the Red Sox organization.
- 1:09This is bad for all of baseball. I'll just go ahead and say it,
- 1:11'cause when you, when you don't have an, when you have an
- 1:14unhappy Rafael Devers, it's just not good for the sport.
- 1:20You know, because you, you want to talk about one of the more
- 1:22bubbly, more, one of the more childlike players in the game
- 1:27with just a childlike enthusiasm, a childlike spirit.
- 1:32Rafael Devers is that player for you.
- 1:34But when, when you got to go, when you got him out here just
- 1:38chirping and, and barking back and, and planting his flag, it's
- 1:42just, it's not good, not good for baseball.
- 1:46And I'm not happy about it. So we're going to talk about it
- 1:50the, the, the news that we're referring to at this point.
- 1:55I'm sure you've heard Rafael Devers little drama coming out
- 1:58of Red Sox camp. Rafael Devers, when asked by
- 2:02media if he had plans of moving off of third base was was very
- 2:09firm, very, very stern in his comments for which we have which
- 2:15we have right here. No need for translation.
- 2:18That's just my position. How would you what would you
- 2:21react if they asked you to DH How would you feel about that?
- 2:24No, can you translate that, please?
- 2:31So that's that's that's what we're working with.
- 2:34And then you, you, you kind of go into that thinking that it's
- 2:40a possibility that he's going to say no, but you're like, this is
- 2:44Raphael Devers. There's no way he actually says
- 2:46this when asked. And he does it.
- 2:48And then you think, OK, well, he said yes.
- 2:51So that's presumably got to be the end of the the saga,
- 2:54correct? That's where you'd be wrong.
- 2:57Tristan Costas of all people decided to chime in when asked
- 3:00by media. I don't know what it is with the
- 3:02Boston media. They just love a good, a good
- 3:07stirring of the pot. You know, they love, they love
- 3:11when, when vibes are high, when things are good.
- 3:14They say, what can we do to ruin this?
- 3:17Because we're miserable. We don't enjoy the lives that we
- 3:21have. So we're going to ruin the lives
- 3:23of those around us and those who the lives of those who enjoy the
- 3:28product that is the Boston Red Sox.
- 3:30And I'll be honest, there hasn't been much to enjoy with the
- 3:32Boston Red Sox the last few years.
- 3:34And again, so this offseason was was really a changing of the
- 3:38guard, a change in momentum. And then they they recognize
- 3:42that they be in the Boston media, recognize that and said,
- 3:47we're going to put it, go ahead and put an end to this.
- 3:49So then they, as I mentioned, they brought it up to Tristan
- 3:52Costas, to which he said, I'm here, I'm.
- 3:56Curious one if you heard it and two if like.
- 4:03I feel like that's. Something you have to maybe
- 4:05navigate in the clubhouse between him and pregnant or I
- 4:08mean I know you're a younger guy comparatively, but how will you
- 4:11maybe navigate that and how approach that in the clubhouse?
- 4:14I think, I think it's, I think it's Raffi Dever's position.
- 4:20I think he's he's the third baseman.
- 4:22And at that point, that's where it stands.
- 4:25And he's done it for, you know, a really long time now.
- 4:29And and I think he's only getting better at that position.
- 4:32I think his defense is getting better every single year.
- 4:37We don't know what the future holds, but we know it holds
- 4:39rapid Evers. So I think he's got to play
- 4:42defense. It's going to keep him athletic
- 4:44and he's going to hit because of, you know, him being at their
- 4:47base. He doesn't know any other
- 4:49position. He doesn't want to play any
- 4:52other position and he's going to fight for it, even if it's with
- 4:57any of the younger, younger guys, any new guy.
- 5:01I I mean, I think he's the best third baseman in the league.
- 5:03I wouldn't take him. I wouldn't take anybody over
- 5:05him. So I think he should play third
- 5:07base, Yeah. You think Bregman should play
- 5:11second? I think Bregman should play
- 5:12second base, yeah. I think he's going to make the
- 5:15transition. Well, I think he's athletic
- 5:17enough to. And I think Trevor, you know, is
- 5:20going to play an awesome shortstop.
- 5:30OK, so now that I've had another chance to process what Tristan
- 5:35Cost has said, and by the way, there's more that we got it, we
- 5:39got to touch on here. But in response to this, there's
- 5:42a lot of people saying, OK, well how can you, how can you really
- 5:45fault Costas for what he's saying?
- 5:47He's just offending the teammate when when prompted about Alex
- 5:52Bregman. Alex Bregman is his teammate,
- 5:55too, folks. Like, let's not get, let's not
- 5:58lose that truth in all of this. Let's not lose that reality
- 6:02here. Sure, he's been teammates with
- 6:05Rafael Devers longer, but let's not act like Alex Bregman plays
- 6:10for another team. And the Red Sox are.
- 6:12This isn't like Sunday league softball where like, you're down
- 6:15a guy because he tripped and sprained his ankle and you're
- 6:18like, hey, can we borrow one of your players?
- 6:20This isn't the same thing. Like Alex Bregman plays for the
- 6:23Boston Red Sox, too. So to say that, yeah, he's
- 6:26defending his teammates at Rafael Endeavours, well, in the
- 6:28same breath, in the same sentence, he's essentially
- 6:31disrespecting the talent, the potential and the leadership
- 6:35that Alex Bregman provides as his teammate.
- 6:38So we, we can go ahead and put that narrative to rest.
- 6:41I've seen enough of that conversation.
- 6:45But All in all, the reality is that Tristan Costas was asked
- 6:50these questions. It's not exactly like he can
- 6:51just say no comment cuz that's not the type of person that
- 6:54Tristan Costas is. But certainly I think put his
- 6:57foot in his mouth a little bit. Nate thoughts?
- 7:01Yeah, I mean, big time. There's PR meetings, there's
- 7:06there's they have people that have the sole job of working
- 7:13players through politically correct answers.
- 7:19And I'm not going to sit here and say that it doesn't go too
- 7:25far sometimes. As the Yankees fan, I'm pretty
- 7:29sick of the politically correct answers and lack of answering
- 7:34questions. And I think the average fan
- 7:38enjoys transparency. Obviously the media does.
- 7:42That's what journalism is about, is getting the transparent
- 7:46answer. And I can't sit here and in one
- 7:50breath dream about that and, and wish that players would answer
- 7:57truthfully and honestly and then in the next breath, you know,
- 8:01chastise them. But there is a message that has
- 8:08to get across. And the truth is it's not hard
- 8:14to fall back on those answers. It's not hard to fall back on.
- 8:19I don't write the lineup. It's not hard to say that.
- 8:24It's not hard to dodge these these questions by answer.
- 8:27You know, I'm glad I don't have that job.
- 8:31There's an easy way to spin this.
- 8:32This is a good problem to have. That's all you got to say.
- 8:37This is a good problem to have. We have a lot of good
- 8:39infielders. Our lineup is extremely solid
- 8:44and we made some great additions this offseason to better our
- 8:48position. However, the front office and
- 8:53our manager Alex Cora decides to proceed is what's going to
- 8:57happen and all of us are pulling the rope in the same direction.
- 9:03That's how you answer it. That's how you bail out a Rafi
- 9:08Devers, who I don't know if he regrets the comments he made.
- 9:15I think you watched Alex Bregman take a pretty solid approach and
- 9:19veteran approach about it and say I'll play anywhere.
- 9:23Then that's what most winners respond with.
- 9:25I'll do anything. We just went through this last
- 9:28week with Marcus Stroman saying I'm a starter, I'm a starter.
- 9:33Then in turn you can have a lot of winners across league.
- 9:36I would say majority of guys would say I'm going to do what
- 9:39my team needs me to do because that's my employer and they paid
- 9:43me and I make a check doing a pretty privileged job.
- 9:50So there's a lot of different ways to go about this.
- 9:54This is definitely not the right way.
- 9:56You had a great offseason, all the momentum carrying into what
- 10:01seems to be a fresh start and hope and a lot of a lot of hype
- 10:09around Boston right now for the right reasons.
- 10:14Well, when your superstar is dealing with these types of
- 10:17rumors all offseason and it wasn't just Bregman that was
- 10:21being talked about. It was an it was a Nolan Arenado
- 10:24that was talked about being brought in.
- 10:26Like all of these conversations are being had.
- 10:29And this was his first opportunity to get in front of
- 10:32the media and talk about it. And I'm not surprised he chose
- 10:35this route. We're talking Devers.
- 10:39We're talking Devers. Yeah, I mean, yes, I'm not
- 10:46surprised that he, you know, he, he wanted to take pride in his
- 10:49ability and, and and plan his flag to an extent, but there has
- 10:54to be a little bit more self-awareness.
- 10:55He since he debuted in Major League Baseball, the worst
- 11:00defensive third baseman in all of baseball.
- 11:03So you can sit here and go ahead and say, no, I play third base.
- 11:08No, Rafael Devers, you attempt to play third base, you take up
- 11:12space at third base. You make the occasion, you make
- 11:16the occasional routine play at third base, but you don't play
- 11:19third base. You just, you play there because
- 11:22you can't play anywhere else and they're not ready to put you at
- 11:24DH yet. I, I'm not, I'm not turning on
- 11:28Rafael Devers. I love Rafael Devers.
- 11:30And like you said, it's possible that maybe he regretted he he's
- 11:34already gotten to a point where he maybe regretted jumping the
- 11:36gun a little bit. They're coming off a little bit
- 11:37too strong. But have a little bit of
- 11:40self-awareness. I I did not anticipate waking up
- 11:43the other day thinking that I was going to be siding with Alex
- 11:46Bregman. Yeah, Well, versus Rafael
- 11:49Devers. I mean, what are we talking
- 11:51about here? Do you look like you said you
- 11:52looked at the way Bregman handled it and then you looked
- 11:54at the way Devers handled it? Just two completely different
- 11:57sides of the coin. But then bringing it back to
- 11:59Casas, he wasn't done. He he wasn't done.
- 12:02He he added these comments shortly after You're running the
- 12:13team. Would you have the would you
- 12:15have Campbell, Anthony and Meyer?
- 12:19No, no, I I think we got some grown men up there right now
- 12:24that needs to iron some things out.
- 12:26We need to show up and see what that first little taste of us
- 12:30all together looks like. I think their time time is going
- 12:33to come and it could be earlier rather than later, but I think
- 12:38for right now, the roster is is beautiful, it's organized, it's
- 12:43great and it's structured really well.
- 12:48Are you the GM Tristan Constant now?
- 12:51What are we? What, OK, like I could
- 12:54understand how you could maybe like put your foot in your mouth
- 12:57and be like, no, that's Raffi's position and you again, you
- 13:00could justify it. Oh, he's just defending his, his
- 13:03teammate of longer 10 years since he's only been teammates
- 13:05with Bregman for like 3 days at this point.
- 13:08I could maybe let that slide. But when you start talking about
- 13:12the talent that's that's down in the system and, and trying to
- 13:16take a stab at making the opening day roster to sit there
- 13:19and say, no, they don't belong up here yet.
- 13:21We've got grown men up here, my brother.
- 13:26They're projected, they're poised to have better careers
- 13:29than you. So like in terms of in terms of
- 13:32you sitting here saying, well, we're, we're, we got some grown
- 13:34men up here. I don't know if you're including
- 13:36yourself, Tristan Costas, but let's let's relax on playing GM,
- 13:41OK? Let's leave that to the folks in
- 13:44the front office and you just worry about playing first base
- 13:47because reality is likelihood of it being the case, yes, that
- 13:52you'll still be here come opening day, but it's not
- 13:54completely out of the question that you're not even going to be
- 13:57here come opening day. Like that's I'm not, I'm not
- 13:59entirely ruling that out. So for you to be sitting here
- 14:02talking about, well, these guys should stay down and and and
- 14:05these players should have a stab at no, that's not your job to
- 14:08talk about. That's your job is to simply
- 14:11play first base and hit, hit baseballs.
- 14:14That's your job, especially considering your lack of
- 14:17experience, all things considered.
- 14:20Thank you. I'm going to I'm going to
- 14:22preface this with saying this, this will this will be a non
- 14:28story pretty soon, I don't think.
- 14:30I sure hope so. I I think this is just plus as
- 14:35fans and media just extremely thirsty for any kind of content
- 14:40in spring training because it is a little dry and it's a little
- 14:44boring when we first start out. So I don't think this is going
- 14:47to be a a very long story. So I'm going to preface that
- 14:51this with that the, I've seen a few different videos and
- 15:01interviews and you know, some of the guys over at Section 10 and
- 15:06George Robbins talking about how this organization in this
- 15:11current roster has lacked some, some leadership and has lacked
- 15:19some of the, the, the right way to go about your business kind
- 15:23of guys. And I do think that if we
- 15:26extract everything and, and kind of take out everything from
- 15:292017, it would just kind of move on.
- 15:32It's it's been a while now. I think you can look at Bregman
- 15:36and, and objectively say that he is, he's a winner and he's a
- 15:39leader. That's just kind of how he
- 15:41operates. This is extremely necessary, but
- 15:47this is what is so unpredictable and difficult about our game.
- 15:51And you can, you can. You can win the offseason, you
- 15:56can win spring training, you can win the first half, you can win
- 16:00the regular season. It's going to come down to a
- 16:05time in October that everyone needs to be pulling on the rope
- 16:08in the same direction. And there's so much against you
- 16:13as an organ. That's why it's so hard for
- 16:14teams to repeat. It's so hard because there's so
- 16:18many things that have to go right.
- 16:20It's not just about filling up roster spots.
- 16:23It's not just about making the correct trades or signings.
- 16:26There's so many things that have to fall into place and go the
- 16:29right way for you to be able to pull off winning a trophy at the
- 16:32end. These are things that can get in
- 16:36the way and are unnecessary. And again, I preface this was
- 16:41saying I don't think this is going to be much of a story very
- 16:43soon. Give it a couple weeks, maybe
- 16:46even by, you know, first few games in spring training, and
- 16:50everything is going to be, you know, kind of gone.
- 16:54It's like a fart in the wind, man.
- 16:55It never happened. So I think that we are kind of
- 17:02witnessing a little bit of a transition period because it has
- 17:06been a rough few years for the Boston Red Sox and they have
- 17:09lacked some of those things. You still have winners in that
- 17:12building. You still have one of the best
- 17:14managers in baseball and Alex Cora, there's ways to absolutely
- 17:18right the ship from this stuff. But This is why a new helm has
- 17:24been placed, right? Like a new GM has come in and
- 17:27there's been a mentality shift of what's happened over the last
- 17:30few years. And you're still going to see
- 17:32some of that bleed through a little bit.
- 17:34You're still going to see that kind of kind of come out and
- 17:37it's and it's stuff like this. You know what I mean?
- 17:39Like, that's not your job, Tristan Costas.
- 17:41I'm sorry. Like, lettuce looks great, by
- 17:43the way. The flow looks top tier.
- 17:47But that, that ain't your job, dawg.
- 17:49And there's plenty of big leaguers and there's plenty of
- 17:52opportunities. There's been plenty of mics
- 17:54shoved in your face over the few years you've been in the league
- 17:57that you should know how to answer these questions.
- 17:58And that's what I'm saying, it was so shocking because it was,
- 18:01it was rather refreshing to see the way he and we talked about
- 18:04it, the way he handled the trade rumors, literally what a month
- 18:09ago. And he handled it with such
- 18:12class. And, and I haven't always been
- 18:13the, the biggest cost this guy, obviously.
- 18:16But when that happened and I like I said, like I said, we
- 18:19talked about him here. I, I gave him credit.
- 18:20I was like, talk about a pro's pro handling it the way that he
- 18:24did. Like they were in that moment.
- 18:26I think they were maybe trying to get a little, little sound
- 18:28bite from him and he, he didn't bite.
- 18:30And he he's like, you know, what is it essentially is like, it's
- 18:34going to be what's going to be and I'm just going to I'm going
- 18:36to be ready. And if I'm here, I'm here.
- 18:38And if I'm not, so be it. And then to have this happen,
- 18:42it's almost like you let it get to his head a little bit where
- 18:44he's like, yeah, you know, I'm, I think I'm a little bit better
- 18:46with the handle on the mic than than these folks give me credit
- 18:50for. So sit back and enjoy the show.
- 18:52And then just rips into sound bite after sound bite.
- 18:55I'm like dude, again, not your job.
- 18:59It's not and, and I don't, I don't know if he's, I don't know
- 19:02if he's earned the right yet to be able to speak that way.
- 19:05And I'm not saying that like you, you can say whatever you
- 19:08want to say. I'm not saying that you're not
- 19:09allowed to. I'm just saying that like it
- 19:12there's a earning your stripes kind of period that you need to
- 19:15go through that. You need to have a little bit
- 19:18more proof before you can just whip it out and say here's what
- 19:20I got. You know what I mean?
- 19:22And Tristan Costas hasn't done that yet.
- 19:25In my opinion. It's been, it's been a lot of
- 19:28hype and there hasn't been a lot of fire where the smoke has
- 19:30been. So there needs to be more that
- 19:34happens over there. But again, I think it's winning
- 19:38solves everything and I think the Red Sox are going to do a
- 19:40lot of that this year. You want to talk about a guy
- 19:44that has earned the right to do and say what he chooses?
- 19:49Mike Trout Mike Trout has made headlines recently for the move
- 19:55that the Angels are making to shift him to right field in an
- 19:59effort to preserve his body and preserve the remainder of his
- 20:04career. Here he is on the mic.
- 20:08Kind of just threw everything on the table as in what's best for
- 20:11me body wise, keep me on the field.
- 20:18Came to conclusion that I'm going to go to right field, like
- 20:22it, try it out, see where it goes.
- 20:26We mixed in center at all. Is this going to?
- 20:28Be Yeah, no, it's not It's I mean, I'm going to play right.
- 20:30But they say that there could be sometimes where I do play center
- 20:33too. So was that a tough?
- 20:34Thing, I mean, obviously you've kind of always been a center
- 20:36fielder. Is it tough to kind of.
- 20:38I knew it was, I knew it was coming, but just got used to it.
- 20:42But just won't be on the field, so.
- 20:45Joe Madden broached this a couple years ago, and at that
- 20:48time you were no, I'm a center field.
- 20:49So what has changed in your? Mind no, I mean it's looking my
- 20:52last couple years just trying to preserve the legs and just you
- 20:56know, go out there and run some balls down and right and you
- 21:00know, that's what we came to and I'm with it.
- 21:03Was there offseason any different to kind of prepare for
- 21:04that at all or anything like that so.
- 21:07How different do you think that will be physically playing right
- 21:09as opposed to centre? I don't know.
- 21:11I mean, I talked to talked to a few guys and we'll talk to Tory
- 21:13when he gets here, you know, because he he did it.
- 21:17You know, it's just there's a lot of guys that you know, that
- 21:20like right field that I might talk to see, see the difference,
- 21:24you know, just go out there and, you know, get comfortable and
- 21:29spraying, see where it goes. You think go off some mix in DH
- 21:32and more off days or was that part of what?
- 21:34Was I'm sure DH Sure, yeah. We had a good discussion of, you
- 21:38know, I just got to be honest with them, how I feel going
- 21:41there. And, you know, obviously he's
- 21:42going to give me, you know, data off, but you know, I'm going to
- 21:45be out there as long as I can. You know, I'm going to, I'm just
- 21:51going to go ahead and I'm going to take the optimistic route
- 21:53here because I, I said, I said that I was going to do that
- 21:57probably what, a year ago now at this point that I'm with the
- 22:01limited time we have left with Mike Trout's career, however
- 22:05long that ends up being, I don't want to be the person.
- 22:09Who? Spends again, what little time
- 22:14we have left ridiculing the guy for things that at this point
- 22:18are very clearly just working against him.
- 22:21I won't even say out of his control because, you know, it is
- 22:25his, his physical health. So you, you wonder how much of
- 22:28that can fall under his control. I don't know, but I I don't want
- 22:32to waste any more time talking about, you know, what a like
- 22:35what a boss, what, what, what could have been this and that.
- 22:39I'm just pulling for one more. I won't even say MVP winning
- 22:44year because I think those days are are are behind Mike Trout,
- 22:48unfortunately, but just give me like an MVP caliber year.
- 22:52That's all I've wanted. I thought we were off to a great
- 22:54start last year and I got real excited because I thought we
- 22:57were finally going to get the revenge tour for Mike Trout that
- 23:00we so desperately have been hoping for.
- 23:03But I in response to this, this news about moving him to right,
- 23:09I'm very much on board. I think it's long overdue and I
- 23:13I genuinely look forward to seeing how this helps him stay
- 23:18on the field because I think if we can keep him on the field,
- 23:23we're looking at a guy that I think still has like a 3035100
- 23:29season still still left in the chamber.
- 23:32Yeah, I, I absolutely, he's still got that.
- 23:36I think this does a few different things, but I will say
- 23:40that like it's not like right field.
- 23:44I mean Angel Stadium is like the easiest to play, you know what I
- 23:47mean? Like it does have that weird
- 23:51Boston esque corner that has that low fence and it kind of
- 23:54juts out and it gets a little bit deeper as it goes, you know,
- 23:58back up the line. So like it is unique.
- 24:01It's not just a standard right field, I think, but this does a
- 24:05few different things and permission to pop off
- 24:11permission, permission to pop off on the angels.
- 24:14It's time to blow it up. It's time to blow it up.
- 24:17It's time to really, really go off.
- 24:22I think they're bottom, at least bottom 3IN prospect in the in
- 24:29the in the farm system ranking. Now.
- 24:32I know that like a lot of young guys have been coming up and
- 24:34getting opportunities to play and sometimes it kind of like
- 24:37effects how your farm ranking goes.
- 24:42It's time to I I would say there's three names you can't
- 24:46touch outside of that. Open this thing up.
- 24:48That's Zach Netto, it's short, that's Ben Joyce because he's
- 24:52got something special and that's Logan.
- 24:54No hoppy outside of that. Everyone's up for grabs.
- 24:58So I think the offseason that they had the the guys they
- 25:01brought in, the moves they made to get Solaire and Kikuchi and
- 25:04Darno, you know, Taylor Ward is still there, like Ren Hefo.
- 25:08I think will will probably get moved Chanwell maybe maybe a guy
- 25:14you hold onto too. So maybe four guys.
- 25:17But outside of that blow it up man.
- 25:19Everybody is for sale and that includes a mic Trout.
- 25:22This is probably your last opportunity to take advantage of
- 25:27some of of of a solid start to a season.
- 25:30If he can stay healthy and he can show that he can play right
- 25:34field and even just league average.
- 25:37You know what the bats going to do if he could just play league
- 25:40average right field on a regular basis and show that he doesn't
- 25:44need to DH 2-3 times a week, that opens up a lot of doors for
- 25:50you to be able to move them because I can.
- 25:52I'm sure there's some reluctancy of other teams saying you know,
- 25:55I'm not going to I'm not going to do this and move him to
- 25:58center field everyday. I'm not going to make I'm going
- 26:00to going to eat this amount of money if he can't stay healthy.
- 26:04So it's a perfect cocktail where I think you're doing what's
- 26:07right for my Trout. You're keeping him healthy,
- 26:10you're keeping him on the field, and you're also showcasing that
- 26:13he can play another position. And let's face it, I think based
- 26:17on how we've seen him play center field, I don't see any
- 26:20issue of him moving to right. I think he's going to be just
- 26:22fine. This needs to be absolutely
- 26:27everyone is on block and I don't care how successful of a first
- 26:32half you have, if you're the Los Angeles Angels, you need to take
- 26:36advantage of everybody. And with all these vets, chances
- 26:40are you're not going to hit the lottery on every one of them.
- 26:43But anybody that is successful, move, move, and that includes
- 26:50Mike Trout. If someone is willing to take
- 26:53any kind of money, you got to eat some.
- 26:56You got to eat crow with Rendon because Rendon is just Rendon at
- 27:01this point and you got to start rebuilding.
- 27:06And if that's your biggest piece, if that's your biggest
- 27:08asset and all you have to do is that he can play 75% of the
- 27:13first half and avoid multiple IL stints, this is your last chance
- 27:19to move him. I just had this thought
- 27:23permission to propose a scenario.
- 27:27Absolutely. All right.
- 27:30It's been it's very, very well documented.
- 27:33I think both with us on occasion.
- 27:36We haven't been, I mean, we haven't been pushing this hard,
- 27:38but there there been a lot of folks out there that have been
- 27:40really pushing the whole get Mike trot home, get him to
- 27:43Philly scenario. My guy, could you imagine Like
- 27:53I, I don't care. I don't care logistically, if
- 27:55this makes sense. I don't care about, you know,
- 27:58prospect capital. I don't care about returns.
- 28:00I don't care about halls going back to going back to the
- 28:04Angels. I don't care.
- 28:05I'm just talking about I'm just talking about pure cinema here.
- 28:11Deadline, get Mike Trout to Philly.
- 28:17We've already talked about it. You've got, you've got a
- 28:19Philly's team who I think is, is, well, I, I know, we, we know
- 28:24is aging. We've got a Phillies team who I
- 28:27think is falling out of favor with a lot of baseball fans.
- 28:31They're moving, they're moving their, their favor elsewhere.
- 28:34They're moving their interest elsewhere around the league and
- 28:36say, oh, that was Phillies gave us a, a few fun years there, but
- 28:41it's time to look elsewhere because they're getting older.
- 28:44They're they're not as fun and, and they're falling short year
- 28:47after year, it seems. And and they're they're falling
- 28:49shorter year after year in terms of how far they make it into
- 28:53October. Get Mike Trout to Philly.
- 28:59You want to talk about a bounce back?
- 29:03You want to talk about a revenge tour?
- 29:06Get Mike Trout to Philly, have him produce over a second-half
- 29:11healthy and propel the Phillies against all odds.
- 29:17If you want to say it back to an NLCS, dare I say World Series,
- 29:23when everybody's falling in love with the LA Dodgers and have
- 29:29Mike Trout and Bryce Harper be at the center of it again, I
- 29:34don't care about logistics. I don't care if it makes sense,
- 29:37you know, line up wise, whatever.
- 29:39I'm just talking about how great of a movie that would be and.
- 29:42It would be perfect. And how, how quickly I would I
- 29:46would purchase tickets to said movie.
- 29:48That's what I'm talking about. Oh 100% we would have to.
- 29:51We would have to find a way to get there.
- 29:54You have to find a way to have Castillanos play left, which I'd
- 29:59assume he'd be. Seems like a I'll, I'll take
- 30:02whatever on the chin for the Phillies.
- 30:04And if that means Mike Trout is in the locker room and then I'm
- 30:09down, I I think he would do it. I think.
- 30:15I think it's the dream. I think every baseball fan wants
- 30:18to see it. I think he'd be great.
- 30:22I just, yeah, I don't know. I mean, it's hard to imagine
- 30:27anywhere else. That's what's weird.
- 30:28Like it's hard to picture them anywhere else.
- 30:31And I would love to see it. I would love to see it.
- 30:35I just, I don't know, man. I think the angels just really,
- 30:40truly need to understand that if all things go right, all these
- 30:47vets do well, all your young guys do well this year, have
- 30:50some self-awareness. Realize who you are and
- 30:54understand you're not going anywhere anytime soon.
- 30:58Bail, get rid of these guys. Load up if you if, if you move
- 31:04some of these veterans. If Solaire is on pace to have
- 31:09another 3530 home run year. My Trout is the same.
- 31:13We've seen what like it. It means to have a backup
- 31:17catcher who can hit. If some of these guys, Kikuchi,
- 31:21I mean, like, come on, if some of these guys do well, you could
- 31:25really, really Fast forward through the next three to four
- 31:33years and load up on prospects and fix your farm and commit to
- 31:39a direction. I'm not telling.
- 31:42I'm not saying they had a bad offseason.
- 31:44I think this is how you fix it. This is how you commit to a
- 31:48rebuild is load up with these guys and sell them, get them out
- 31:55of town. Thanks for being here.
- 31:56Appreciate you. Thanks for your service.
- 31:59Go get a young cat. And that serves as a perfect
- 32:04segue into what is our next topic.
- 32:06Talking about getting out of town, Vladdy Junior set to
- 32:10become a free agent after the Blue Jays failed to reach an
- 32:14agreement on an extension at his February 17th deadline.
- 32:22He said after February 17th at 9:00 PM, don't even bother
- 32:27calling the phone, but apparently they did.
- 32:31They did call him at 10:30 is what I saw, so you know.
- 32:35One specify what time, what time zone you know.
- 32:38That's fair. You know, Jays are trying to
- 32:41work the system I guess a little bit, see what they can do for
- 32:43their guy. But as expected, nothing really
- 32:47panned out. I I anticipated this being the
- 32:49case. I just do not think Vladdy wants
- 32:52to play in Toronto. I don't think it matters how
- 32:56much money they offer him. I think he is simply positioning
- 33:02himself to hit well at this point.
- 33:03He is to hit free agency and I think the conversation that was
- 33:09leading up to this situation to where it didn't pan out was him
- 33:13simply saying that they didn't reach my number, when in reality
- 33:19it's possible that they did reach his number, but that he
- 33:24was simply going to say no regardless.
- 33:26They could have thrown $600.00 out there and he said I'm going
- 33:29to free agency because I don't think he wants to play in
- 33:31Toronto, nor should he. Yeah, yeah, it's weird, man.
- 33:39Because like, I, I feel like it's maybe just a little like
- 33:42too little too late. They had a good offseason, they
- 33:46made good moves. I I would give them AB or B plus
- 33:50for what they were able to do in the offseason.
- 33:54I think if they would have pulled off getting a Bregman,
- 33:57that would have pushed him into a all day.
- 34:02It's hard, man. Like I said, it's too little too
- 34:04late. Like they've had this young core
- 34:07they've been able to we talk about all the time.
- 34:10Like when you have a a controllable young core who has
- 34:13hit their their prime early. It's been in the league for a
- 34:16while. It's been in the league since
- 34:2019. We're getting old.
- 34:22So like you've had plenty of chances to to push chips in the
- 34:27middle of the table and build around some of these guys and
- 34:29show that like, hey, we're going to we're going to do something
- 34:33different with you as, as this generational cornerstone.
- 34:38And and they've they've missed the boat.
- 34:40They've been disappointing. And it's it's, I don't know,
- 34:45like I don't know how much of this offseason could have saved
- 34:48that. I don't know how much of a good
- 34:51showing this year is going to save the chances of of re
- 34:54signing him. I think he wants to go.
- 34:58I don't I'm not I'm with you. I don't believe that the Blue
- 35:02Jays aren't willing to meet his number.
- 35:06I'm not buying that. I've I can't wait until these
- 35:09numbers come out. I'm I'm excited to see where I'm
- 35:13sure something's going to happen, But I like they were in
- 35:20the hunt for Otani. They were in the hunt for Soto.
- 35:23It's clear that they're willing to go north of 700 like they're
- 35:27willing to do that. Is Vladi worth that?
- 35:32Are they evaluating him the same way?
- 35:38I'll give him over five. I think he gets over 500 pretty
- 35:41easily. I think there's multiple teams
- 35:43that would give him over 500. But the guy's been really good.
- 35:48He's he's put up some good numbers.
- 35:49They had a really good year last year.
- 35:51Strikeouts are just continuing to go down.
- 35:54He's taking his walks like I think he's starting to become
- 36:00who he's supposed to be. I think he's poised to have a
- 36:03really, really big year. Sorry, Toronto.
- 36:10Like you, you just you kind of fumble the bag here.
- 36:14You like you really fumble the situation.
- 36:16I honestly. I just don't know how much I can
- 36:19put on the Blue Jays here. It's, it's, it's hard to
- 36:22convince somebody to stay when they are dead set on not doing
- 36:27that. Like I, I, I think we're going
- 36:29to be genuinely shocked because like you were saying, these
- 36:32numbers are going to come out. They always do after the fact
- 36:34when once the the player in question ends up on their new.
- 36:38Team yeah, the Blue Jays are going to leak this number.
- 36:40They're going to leak their offer any day now.
- 36:42Oh, for sure. And, and it's going to I think
- 36:46the Blue Jays, quite frankly, are going to be in a position to
- 36:49whenever he signs this massive contract that he is, he's poised
- 36:53to get the Blue Jays are going to be looking around going see
- 36:58what did we tell? Like we, we put the and I'm not
- 37:01going to sit here and say they're going to make up some
- 37:02number to make themselves look better.
- 37:04I think I think you're right. I think they're going to make a
- 37:07or I think they did now that the negotiations over.
- 37:10I think they they made a genuine effort.
- 37:12I I have to believe that because it's it's that's their guy.
- 37:16Like if whether or not you think a guy like Otani or Soto was
- 37:20actually realistically considering the Blue Jays,
- 37:23that's one thing. But Vlad, it like that's their
- 37:25guy. He's he's been there for some
- 37:27time. But I think when when Vlad
- 37:30Vladdy signs for whatever he's going to sign for, you're going
- 37:34to look at that and go, there's no way the Blue Jays didn't meet
- 37:38that or surpass that. There's just no way.
- 37:42And at that point, we will then understand that again, Vladdy
- 37:46just did not want to. Be there.
- 37:47That's the reality of it. It's fair.
- 37:51He's he's probably just gotten burned at this point, dude, like
- 37:54they've they've lost their opportunities, they've lost lost
- 37:57their chances, they've run out of excuses to succeed with this
- 38:01group. And I'm I don't know if it's
- 38:06solely about that or solely about money in Vlad's camp.
- 38:10It's got to be a part of the equation.
- 38:13Winning cures all. We know that and they just
- 38:15haven't done enough of that to show that like, hey, if we do
- 38:21commit to your number, we're also going to commit to winning
- 38:25during that length of the contract.
- 38:30I don't know what, who, where the blame is.
- 38:35I don't. I don't blame for one to get out
- 38:37of town, that's all. I don't say I.
- 38:39Mean, I mean, how many teams? I mean, obviously that the Red
- 38:43Sox, the Yankees, the Mets, I've said it.
- 38:49I've said it before, dude, I do not think the the Yankees are
- 38:53legitimate contender. Not because I don't think
- 38:56they're willing to meet whatever number he's wanting to.
- 38:58I there's a personal I. Don't think that they're an
- 39:03option for Vladdy, but the Yankees absolutely think they're
- 39:06an option. No, that's that's exactly what
- 39:09I'm saying. Vladdy being smart in his camp,
- 39:11being smart saying that's what the Yankees do.
- 39:13The Yankees drive up numbers for everyone else.
- 39:16We're going to, we're going to say all the right things to make
- 39:19sure that the Yankees feel like they got a shot right, because
- 39:22that's obviously going to drive up the number.
- 39:24But like, there's not a ton of teams that have a have a real
- 39:29opportunity to 'cause I do think he gets over 500.
- 39:32How many times have we had this conversation in the last five
- 39:34years? Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Shohei
- 39:37Otani, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado?
- 39:39Like, there's this. Yeah, Every time it comes to it.
- 39:41There's just not a lot of teams, you know, that are really in the
- 39:44mix. And then you look at you you
- 39:46take you look OK, you go down the list, OK, money who can
- 39:50afford them? And then you go down the down
- 39:52the checklist to the next thing personnel positioning.
- 39:56Do we even have a fit for this guy?
- 39:59The the the list of teams it's that can serve as a fit for for
- 40:04these guys in question get smaller and smaller when you
- 40:07take into account these other factors and I.
- 40:11I, I'm with you. I think the list is is very
- 40:13small. I think the list is very small
- 40:15for the for Vladdy, but I I do not see him ending up in
- 40:20Toronto. Yeah, and it and it's look like
- 40:23the first base market is pretty much running it back the same
- 40:25way. If Pete opts out, he's back in
- 40:28that back in that conversation, Josh Naylor, Paul Goldschmidt
- 40:34and there's there's a pretty big fall off, you know what I mean?
- 40:36Like it's not a super deep position.
- 40:39So, but I think the Giants are in that camp, by the way, the
- 40:43Giants are obviously going to throw a number out there because
- 40:46they can. And I don't know, it's, it's a
- 40:55weird situation, man. It's a weird situation, but he's
- 40:58going to get paid. Going to get paid.
- 41:08What do you think of this? We got to close the book here
- 41:10with a few items. You down for a little bit of a
- 41:15speed round here, because I do. I do want to keep our our our
- 41:20tradition of a of a draft at the end intact.
- 41:23We're running out of out of draft draft odds, you know?
- 41:29For sure, yeah. Yeah, we're running out of
- 41:30opportunities to have a draft. I thought you were going to say
- 41:33topics. I was like, we can make, we can
- 41:35make up topics for days. We absolutely can.
- 41:37I'm saying the chances, you know.
- 41:40Yeah. We are running out of out of
- 41:42opportunities to do these drafts.
- 41:44So I want to make sure we get to them while we still can.
- 41:47All right, instant reaction here.
- 41:51Keep your thoughts, keep your thoughts brief and all all sort
- 41:54of drive the train here. Rualdo Perdomo 4 year, $45
- 41:59million contract extension with the D backs and a club option
- 42:03for 20-30. Thoughts.
- 42:05Love it. Great move.
- 42:08I I really like him and I think the D backs have a all things
- 42:13going right so keep this group together.
- 42:19Yeah, you love having you. You got to have guys that can
- 42:21serve as sort of the heart of the team.
- 42:23Like whether or not they're going to put out the numbers
- 42:26that you're looking for you, you hope that they will.
- 42:28And I can't, I can't imagine him not, you know, producing at the
- 42:32level that they hope he can. But at the very least, you know
- 42:35that he's going to, you're going to have the tools, you're going
- 42:38to have the heart that comes with it, and you're going to
- 42:40have an energy that's just infectious that I think for a
- 42:44team like the D Backs and a team that I think is poised to make
- 42:47some noise in that division and possibly beyond in October,
- 42:51having a guy like him around is is key.
- 42:54Talk about a team carrying momentum too.
- 42:56Like good offseason, good move getting into spring training.
- 42:59All vibes are high. Like they're they're doing all
- 43:02D. Backs D Backs are doing it
- 43:04right. Justin Turner in agreement with
- 43:07the Chicago Cubs on a one year, $6 million contracts.
- 43:10Cubs as you would as you could only assume, sort of pivoting
- 43:16for some corner depth after missing out on on some other
- 43:19names. I think they probably had their
- 43:21eye on dots. Still got some, still got some
- 43:27swings left. I think he's still got it, man.
- 43:29Yeah, he's still, he's a professional hitter.
- 43:32He'll he'll be fine. But I they're eventually going
- 43:36to need to make a move for an everyday third baseman at some
- 43:40point during this this season before the deadline.
- 43:45Keep now Matt Shaw. That lineup ain't bad.
- 43:49That lineup ain't bad. That's true.
- 43:52Sounded pitching for Chicago I. Want, I want to make sure you
- 43:58hear me on this. Matt Shaw.
- 43:59Keep now. Matt Shaw, All right.
- 44:01Got. You Frankie Montes, will be shut
- 44:04down for six to eight weeks for the New York Mets.
- 44:09Signed A2 year $34 million deal with the Mets back in December
- 44:13and spent last year with the Reds and Brewers posting A484
- 44:18over 30 starts. Thoughts.
- 44:23This is are the Mets back-to-back to Mets in, I mean
- 44:26this. No, I, I'm not going to go that
- 44:29far. I'm, I'm just going to say this
- 44:31is this is what just. Trying to stir the pot.
- 44:33This is what a Wan Soto signing does it.
- 44:35It kind of ties your hands a little bit and you have to, you
- 44:39have to give and take. This is one of those takes where
- 44:42it's just like you're thin and you can't afford this to happen.
- 44:46And it's not about his ERA, it's about his innings.
- 44:49And you got to go find innings elsewhere.
- 44:52And there's a lot of question marks around their rotation.
- 44:54So I would I would expect them to do a little something before
- 44:59opening day. Speaking of question marks, one
- 45:03of the questions moving into the 2025 season is just how good the
- 45:09Sacramento A's are going to be. I think, I think, I think we're,
- 45:15we're in store for a little surprise there.
- 45:17I'm not, I'm not going to go. I'm not going to go as far as
- 45:20make a bird. Don't.
- 45:20Get carried away. I'm not.
- 45:23I'm not. I know we're saving that for the
- 45:26for that episode. I I respect the Hot 6 episode
- 45:29coming up very soon. Yeah.
- 45:32I mean, what? Just a little over a month at
- 45:34this point. Yeah, oh boy.
- 45:37No, before that, because we got the Korea series we got to beat.
- 45:40No, we did this last year. We're we're, we're not doing the
- 45:43hot takes episode before that. We're we're going to treat that
- 45:46as AX, as the exhibition that it essentially is.
- 45:50And we're going to do our hot takes for the the good old
- 45:52American opening day, the good old March, when it should be in
- 45:57April opening day stop. Doing that, Rob Manfred, I hate
- 46:01it. I hate it.
- 46:03Baseball should not start in March, April, first week of
- 46:06April at the earliest anyway. Mark Kotze contract extension
- 46:10with the A's through the 2028 season includes a club option
- 46:13for 2029. Thoughts.
- 46:15Picking a direction and going towards it.
- 46:18Big fan. I like Mark Kotze, nose ball.
- 46:23Been in the league forever, smart.
- 46:26Then they got a lot of young talent.
- 46:28I like. I like what the A's are doing.
- 46:31And I'm not talking about their offseason.
- 46:33I'm talking about their their young guys.
- 46:35I get a lot of a lot of talent. I was thinking about this today
- 46:38in particular as I was thinking through this extension and, and
- 46:43sort of thinking about similar situations.
- 46:45Brandon Hyde comes to mind. I know the narrative around
- 46:48Brandon Hyde has, has sort of, you know, had its ups and downs,
- 46:51especially as of late. But I think when they decided to
- 46:55bring him back the first time, you and I were both on the same
- 46:59page. We got the receipts.
- 47:01You and I are both on the same page.
- 47:02When you when you have a guy that has to sit through crap and
- 47:07you decide to reward him once the moves have been made, once
- 47:10things are are sort of trending upwards, that's the way to do
- 47:13it. And I think for the A's to bring
- 47:15back Mark Kotze and his leadership that we saw play out
- 47:19down the stretch there as they wrap things up in Oakland, I
- 47:22think was was the right thing to do.
- 47:24And I think that's the, I think that's, you know what he
- 47:26deserves. So big fan of the move coming.
- 47:30To anything long term and the A's are just fine.
- 47:34Correct draft time. Draft time.
- 47:40Not draft time. Oh yeah.
- 47:44Oh yeah. Whose quote was this?
- 48:09Whose quote was this? And I'll be 100% honest with
- 48:13you, completely unintentional here.
- 48:16Well, we're talking, we're talking A's here with our quote.
- 48:21Perfect transition. All right, the quote is well, as
- 48:26always. Let me ask, you want the quote
- 48:27first or do you want the details of the quote?
- 48:31Details. You want the details this is
- 48:34from This is from the Three O Take episode 203 Oakland
- 48:40considering relocation, the Terrible Twins and Strikeout
- 48:43History from May 14th, 2021. Whoa.
- 48:49The quote, the quote, I think Vegas would be just, I think
- 48:56it'd be a really good spot. They don't have to restructure
- 48:59divisions. So it just, it makes sense.
- 49:02Vegas just makes sense. I just don't want to see them
- 49:05share. Don't share with anybody.
- 49:07Just get your own setup, do your own thing and stay.
- 49:11The A's don't share any facility with anybody.
- 49:14I don't want to see a mutual agreement with a minor league
- 49:16affiliate there. You know what I mean?
- 49:18I don't want to see anything like that.
- 49:21Just do your own thing, be your own place.
- 49:23Finally, let your A's be your A's.
- 49:26Ideally, though, my vote is for Oakland to figure it out.
- 49:32I'm going to say KC. No, really.
- 49:37That's you, man. That was all you.
- 49:41Wow. I found off the Oakland camp.
- 49:43I had a Yeah, you sure have. I really didn't realize I was
- 49:47ever. I didn't know I was in that camp
- 49:49at any point. Oh, yeah, I read the before and
- 49:52after and you were really pushing for them to figure it
- 49:54out in Oakland, but things clearly changed.
- 49:57But I, I, I had a smile on my face when I got to that bit
- 49:59about the share in the minor league facility.
- 50:02Like, you know, that's crazy. It didn't end up like as
- 50:06directly as you said it, but like, you know, in this weird
- 50:08way you kind of, you kind of called it.
- 50:11Yeah, that's how I do. That's how I roll.
- 50:14Wild, wild. Crazy.
- 50:16All right, You got time for a draft.
- 50:19I got time for a draft. You got time for a draft.
- 50:20I've got time for a draft. Drafts.
- 50:23All right, let's get the let's get this puppy up on the screen
- 50:26here. What?
- 50:26Were our results. Oh oh, did you finally get a
- 50:32dub? About time, Guy.
- 50:45The results were shocked. Well, not shocking to me.
- 50:49I mean, I, I knew I won that draft, but you know, finally I,
- 50:52I, I was able to wake up the, the chat, if you will, was able
- 50:59to wake up the, the people finally came to their senses and
- 51:03they, they rightfully voted for years truly to win the draft.
- 51:09All right, let. Me see here.
- 51:14I don't think anybody really reads the topic.
- 51:17I think the people are just looking.
- 51:19Yeah, dude, it's crazy. It's crazy.
- 51:23They people just don't pay attention.
- 51:25But for the for the record, the poll on the story was 66% Kyle,
- 51:2934% Nate. So I mean, I just ran away with
- 51:32it. That's.
- 51:34What I've been doing? And I even I even pinned a
- 51:37comment at the top on Instagram. I said read the notes at the
- 51:40bottom of the graphic before you say something dumb.
- 51:42And then somebody immediate like proceeded to say there's no
- 51:45Yadier Molina on this team. I said it's because we already
- 51:47had our catchers. Dude, read that.
- 51:49Just read. Understand how a draft works.
- 51:52Anyway, we are doing the MLB birth year draft.
- 51:56We are drafting the team based on birth year.
- 52:00I got. I'm not going to.
- 52:00I'm not going to lie, this can be a little tricky.
- 52:03How do we? How do we?
- 52:05Have you found a good way to search it?
- 52:07Yes, so if you just type in MLB players by birth year, there
- 52:12should be a baseball Almanac link should be the third one
- 52:17down, I believe. Nope, that's that's states
- 52:21players by year of birth and they'll give you the full list.
- 52:26So I'm going to pull up the random number generator here.
- 52:31We're going to go 1984, which I believe is a year after Justin
- 52:39Verlander was born. Justin Verlander, the oldest
- 52:41player in the league, is a 1983 guy.
- 52:46So we're just going to, for the sake of ease here, we're going
- 52:49to go 1984 to 2004 and I just hope we don't end up on Jackson
- 52:56Cheerio because he's the only player in two in 2004 so.
- 52:59We're just baseball-almanac.com, correct?
- 53:03OK. Yeah.
- 53:04So there's it's very possible we're going to be overlooking
- 53:07some some things here because. Wait, what?
- 53:16Not baseball-almanac.com. No baseball dash almanac.com.
- 53:20Yeah. It only goes, oh, OK, OK, OK,
- 53:22OK, OK, OK, OK. We're good mom, brother.
- 53:24Had to hit the little scroll, you know, all right.
- 53:30Are we good? What what's the, what's the
- 53:32stipulation here? Are we going individual
- 53:34positions or are we going back to the roots, back to four
- 53:38infielders? Let's go back to the roots.
- 53:41What do you think like that? It's going to be a tricky 1, so
- 53:44let's just go. We'll go a pitcher, a catcher, 4
- 53:49infielders, 3 outfielders, and we'll go DH and let's let's
- 53:54scrap the relief pitcher. Let's just go starting pitcher.
- 53:57OK. All right, So that should be
- 54:04just make sure I got my math right here.
- 54:06One DH, that's 269, that's 10. Sure, yeah. 10 positions that we
- 54:17got to fill. All right, first, the first year
- 54:20we're going with 1990. That's a, that's a good year.
- 54:28I, I imagine, I imagine, dude, there's going to be so many
- 54:33names to sift through. Oh my goodness.
- 54:35Oh boy, oh I wish. Oh boy.
- 54:40Better way to sort. Oh boy.
- 54:49Wow. I'm just going to go ahead and
- 54:52tell you right now there's going to be some oversights here.
- 54:54There's. Going to be some oversights.
- 54:56There's scroll alphabetically here.
- 54:59I mean, this is crazy. Obviously these these guys don't
- 55:07have to can still be playing all right.
- 55:11This isn't like active only. Where is it?
- 55:19I mean, I think within reason all.
- 55:24Right, we'll go. We can.
- 55:25Go, I mean, because that that's that is why we made the cut off
- 55:28like the year after Berliners. This it's I'll admit it's a
- 55:32little bit different of a draft than we've done, but I, I, I
- 55:35still think we can make something work here.
- 55:38All right, I've got one name. I've got one name in mind that
- 55:42I'm I'm really liking. Let's see here.
- 55:53A 90s man. What a what a time.
- 55:57Whoa, what a time. Give me, oh, Oh no, I got my
- 56:04guy. I have got my guy.
- 56:08Give me. Oh, no, hold on.
- 56:15Wow. Find something.
- 56:18Wow, give me give me Jose Ramirez.
- 56:34What? No.
- 56:38Can't believe he's that old. Not Ramirez.
- 56:40Sorry, wrong name. Who the heck did I just see?
- 56:47Who is this? Not the same.
- 56:52Not the same guy. It's not the same guy.
- 56:55Not the same guy. Yeah, definitely.
- 56:56Not the same guy. There's no way he's that old.
- 56:59That's misleading. OK.
- 57:01All right. Well, if that's the case, then
- 57:03give me give me Zach Wheeler on the bump.
- 57:06Sure, sure. That's what AI mean.
- 57:08My goodness, what a what a start.
- 57:11One of the most. I'm not even going to I'm not
- 57:15going to try to sell them, but I will.
- 57:18One of the most underrated pitchers of the last half
- 57:22decade. I mean, he he's had a great
- 57:24career, but especially as of late you, if you look at the
- 57:26numbers, one of the one of the best pitchers in all baseball
- 57:30and certainly one of the most underappreciated.
- 57:33Feel like we're just coming across a lot of similar names
- 57:39from prior drafts, you know what I mean?
- 57:43Well, I mean, we are drafting baseball players, so.
- 57:52Well, he he ain't in the outfield yet, so I'm going to
- 57:59put him in the infield. Whoa, never mind.
- 58:02What the heck? Good thing I kept scrolling.
- 58:05Give me Garrett Cole on the bump.
- 58:09See what I mean? Didn't even see him.
- 58:10I wouldn't have picked him anyway, but I literally didn't
- 58:12see him. So there you go.
- 58:14That's fun. All right, no repeats, right?
- 58:18Correct. Almost win Jose Altuve.
- 58:23Also didn't see him so this is fun.
- 58:26There's gonna be tough, yeah. There's gonna be oversight.
- 58:28There's. So many names to sift through,
- 58:29but it's all right, it's all right next year, both of our
- 58:36birth years, right 909393 shout out I'm a. 1st.
- 58:45Shout out, you are first. What didn't I see Tim Anderson
- 58:49on the last? I mean, that seems like a pretty
- 58:53common name. I'm sure.
- 58:56I'm sure Tim Anderson pops up more than once in baseball.
- 59:06Wait, why do I? Why do I feel like I'm seeing
- 59:13similar names? Whatever, just keep going guy.
- 59:19Focus. Stay focused here.
- 59:29Man, you see some names when you're scroll, when you're when
- 59:31you're sifting through these players, man, you're seeing some
- 59:34guys, you're like wow, whatever, hat like what happened?
- 59:37I'm seeing names that like make me feel old.
- 59:40That's what I'm saying. I'm like, whoa, this guy's been
- 59:42in the league for a minute. I don't love that.
- 59:51I don't love that feeling personally.
- 59:56Sorry. Do my best here.
- 59:58Hey, it's all good, man. This is tough.
- 1:00:02OK, got a candidate. Just going to keep going just in
- 1:00:04case. Oh yeah, I bet you do.
- 1:00:11I bet you do. Why are you saying it like that?
- 1:00:16Don't worry about it. The way you're saying that makes
- 1:00:21me feel like I'm nervous over overlooking something.
- 1:00:24Nope. I don't, I don't love what
- 1:00:30you're doing there, guy. Don't worry about it.
- 1:00:32Just just just mind game. Just.
- 1:00:34Go. Just go.
- 1:00:40Almost there. We're just.
- 1:00:43Do I? Do I what?
- 1:00:48What am am I crazy in saying that 93 isn't exactly the the
- 1:00:52best represented year in baseball?
- 1:00:54It's not. It's not.
- 1:00:55Kind of disappointed in my birth year a little bit.
- 1:00:57Here like yeah. Not wild about it.
- 1:01:02Yeah, it's it's not great. I don't love the way you said
- 1:01:12that. I'm no like I'm having.
- 1:01:14I'm you made me. You made me second guess.
- 1:01:16So I'm not. I'm just go, just go.
- 1:01:19I'm having to go back through things, I'm having to rethink
- 1:01:22things. Just pick.
- 1:01:27I've got multiple names lined up here.
- 1:01:29Give me Frankie Lindor. Yeah, there it is.
- 1:01:32Give me Trey Turner on the infield.
- 1:01:34It's going to be a real Philly heavy.
- 1:01:37It's a real Philly heavy episode, if I'm being honest
- 1:01:40with you. Real Philly heavy.
- 1:01:44Didn't see Trey Turner, Yep, he was there because you were
- 1:01:48rushing me. You were talking smack when I
- 1:01:50was getting down those 3 days. I don't.
- 1:01:54My reading comprehension is not as good as yours.
- 1:01:57I don't think that's true. All right.
- 1:02:00Who am I first now? You're first.
- 1:02:02The next year is All right. Well, we're ruling out 2004
- 1:02:07doesn't count 1993. That's a repeat 1990.
- 1:02:11Six Why did we take out O 4? Because it's Jackson Cheerio as
- 1:02:17the only player in 2004. Would have been a good get.
- 1:02:20Did you say 96 would? Have been a great get.
- 1:02:22But then what? What's the other person?
- 1:02:24What's the other person stuck with?
- 1:02:26It's tough. They just roll out a nine player
- 1:02:28lineup. They they don't have a pitcher
- 1:02:29or DH or something. O4 What'd you say, 96?
- 1:02:3596 And I know you're probably thinking if you're listening, if
- 1:02:40you're thinking or if you're thinking if you're watching or
- 1:02:42listening, you're gone. Well, it says 1984 to 2004 for
- 1:02:46the draft. It just sounds cleaner when you
- 1:02:48go 84 to O 4. It's just nicer presentation.
- 1:02:51But there's literally one player in the year 2004 and we can't
- 1:02:54pick him. So I mean, we could, but again,
- 1:02:57it really throw a wrench into this draft.
- 1:03:00OK, so 96, let's go 96, I can get back to the the menu here.
- 1:03:1196, OK. I feel like this town, it's
- 1:03:15going to be this town pool is going to be pretty good.
- 1:03:28Yeah. Whoa, Who do we got?
- 1:03:40Who we got 96? Who we got?
- 1:03:46We got some names. We got some names.
- 1:03:53We got some names. Wow, some of these guys I had
- 1:04:00pegged at like 37. Oh yeah, JoJo Romero could have
- 1:04:11swore he's pushing 40. Dude, you're telling me Eloy
- 1:04:13Jimenez was 90? You're telling me you're going
- 1:04:17to look at me and tell me that I'm three years older than Eloy
- 1:04:21Jimenez? Come on.
- 1:04:30Oh yeah. Derek School in here.
- 1:04:37Trying to throw me off my game. I know what you're.
- 1:04:38I know you're games. Yeah.
- 1:04:43Give me Terek Scubal. Give me Terek Scubal.
- 1:04:47I'll put them at DH. Why not?
- 1:04:51All right, I think I know my answer here.
- 1:04:53I know you do. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:55Yeah, that I don't know mine because it's obvious which one
- 1:04:59you're taking. Oh, yeah, But give me Gavin
- 1:05:02Sheets. No.
- 1:05:04Give me Rafael Devers, Man of the hour.
- 1:05:09Rafael Devers. Am I allowed to put him in the
- 1:05:12infield? Like, is that, is that OK?
- 1:05:14Like, is that my only option? Will he will he be upset with me
- 1:05:18if if I say that he's he's in my infield?
- 1:05:21I played their pace the way he said that.
- 1:05:25I played, I played third. I played, I played third base.
- 1:05:29Yeah, I bet you do, Rafi. You're like the worst at it in
- 1:05:31baseball, but OK. All right, give me Jaron Duran
- 1:05:34in the outfield. That's a good get, huh I?
- 1:05:39Love Jaron Duran, but I don't know that that may have hurt you
- 1:05:45this. No, I don't think so.
- 1:05:47This is very deep, honestly. If you keep scrolling, it's not.
- 1:05:49You're impressive. You're right.
- 1:05:51You're right. I'm with you.
- 1:05:53That's why I was glad I went first there 1984.
- 1:05:58This is going to get weird 1980. 4.
- 1:06:06Wait a minute. Oh, this is, yeah, this is the
- 1:06:09first year after we may, we may not be able to do this one
- 1:06:14because what I didn't consider is that while I gave it a year
- 1:06:18buffer from Verlander as the oldest player.
- 1:06:22It's not active. Yeah, it's, it's not like
- 1:06:24there's a whole lot, you know. There's really not.
- 1:06:28Oh boy, I. Mean I'm down to skip it if you
- 1:06:36are. Let me just keep scrolling.
- 1:06:43Double check if you go over to the right you can see that
- 1:06:47they're still active. Oh, right, right, true, true.
- 1:06:51True. So you can kind of like cruise
- 1:06:53past a lot of names. No chance.
- 1:06:55That guy's still active? Yeah.
- 1:06:57No chance. Active in what sense?
- 1:07:00And their minds. Was it Gerard Dyson by.
- 1:07:02Chance according No, it was Scott Kasmere.
- 1:07:06Ah, yes. Yeah, active according to who
- 1:07:10themselves, or to Major League rosters?
- 1:07:14Cliff Pennington still active. Get out of here.
- 1:07:17Come on now. Well, both our starters are
- 1:07:25taken. So that kind of I think we may
- 1:07:28have to re spin my guy. Yeah, there's.
- 1:07:33We didn't think this through too much.
- 1:07:39No, because that's what I'm saying.
- 1:07:40Like in my head I'm like, Oh yeah, we'll just cap it at at
- 1:07:43the oldest guy. But then I'm like, well there's
- 1:07:44AI would imagine a sizeable gap between I.
- 1:07:48Mean it's your call if you really feel like.
- 1:07:51What's the draw? Dyson by chance?
- 1:07:55If you feel like you're. Down, let's re spend.
- 1:07:57Yeah, let's go ahead and re spend.
- 1:07:58I'll make an executive decision here.
- 1:08:00Fine with me, I was going to go J teeth.
- 1:08:03That's fair. Yeah, I would have gone that
- 1:08:05too. But there was nobody else.
- 1:08:07Nobody. I can't go Scott Kasmere because
- 1:08:09that's not that's not a real thing.
- 1:08:11Yeah, 1989, not much better. Little better, little better.
- 1:08:15Little better. Going to be thin picking still
- 1:08:18which is OK It's. Going to be better Pickens than
- 1:08:25than what we just had, than what we just had.
- 1:08:34Am I still up first believe? Were you supposed to be first
- 1:08:38for that last one? Yeah, I said I went to rain.
- 1:08:41Yeah. Yep, Yep.
- 1:08:43Right. Same thing.
- 1:08:46I'm, I'm looking to the right first.
- 1:08:50Madison Bumgarner is not still active.
- 1:08:53Does anyone still work at baseball-almanac.com?
- 1:08:59Derek Dietrich. No and not active.
- 1:09:03The guns. Lifting weights on Muscle Beach.
- 1:09:06The guns tough, this is tough. We can't double up on re spend
- 1:09:15can no. We don't.
- 1:09:16We don't need to re spend here. Cool.
- 1:09:21Well, I don't feel like scrolling anymore.
- 1:09:23Give me Freddy Freeman. I thought you were going to.
- 1:09:25I thought you were going to miss him.
- 1:09:28I really thought you were going to miss him.
- 1:09:30Jeez. Well, it gives me hope.
- 1:09:33That gives me hope because I I didn't.
- 1:09:35I would have pegged Freeman for a little younger.
- 1:09:37But Aaron Hicks is available. Shut up.
- 1:09:43Give me stop, stop. Stop scrolling and stop getting
- 1:09:48in my head. Let me make my picks.
- 1:09:52Give me. Come on now.
- 1:09:59Come on now, give me somebody good.
- 1:10:02Give me somebody good. I got a chance here to to snag
- 1:10:07somebody because Nate was too lazy to keep scrolling.
- 1:10:11That's. Right when you see Freddie
- 1:10:13Freeman. Holy.
- 1:10:14Cow man man, I would have loved to snag for sale.
- 1:10:24Can't. Can I?
- 1:10:26Can I choose Will Smith the reliever and put him as my
- 1:10:31catcher? Did you double check that it I'm
- 1:10:37assuming it's the reliever will Oh.
- 1:10:39Absolutely. It's the reliever.
- 1:10:45All right, Get a little deeper here.
- 1:10:46Get a little deeper. Give me.
- 1:10:50I hate this. It's crazy that there's I'm
- 1:10:57going to take such a drop off. Yeah, I don't.
- 1:11:00I don't love this pic, but give me give me Giancarlo Stanton.
- 1:11:05I'll defer to you. Where?
- 1:11:07Where can I put them outfield? DH has to be DH.
- 1:11:11Did he not log out to the innings last year?
- 1:11:18I mean, I no, no, I'll I'll go DH, I'll go DH.
- 1:11:22I don't want to log up or jam up a outfield spot.
- 1:11:29I think he did, but. No, he definitely did.
- 1:11:36All right. Oh, shoot, what was that's?
- 1:11:38Not a bad. That's not a bad.
- 1:11:40I honestly didn't even see him the first time I was scrolling.
- 1:11:42Well, it was either that or Springer and I'm like I'll, I'll
- 1:11:45get some more votes with Stan than Springer.
- 1:11:48What was what was Devers and and Duran's year 96, 1996 and then
- 1:11:56this is what, 89? Yeah, we had 84 in between that.
- 1:12:01So we have 90939684890. Wait, we rescrolled on 84?
- 1:12:07Yeah, we rescrolled. I'm sorry, I was.
- 1:12:08Going to say we only got 4 players so we're on.
- 1:12:11We're on what year right now? We're on 1989 all.
- 1:12:17Right. 89, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:12:19All right. Who's got first pick here?
- 1:12:21You do. All right, give me 1994 is the
- 1:12:30next randomly generated year, and I think I'm going to like
- 1:12:35what I find in 1994. Who was born in 1994?
- 1:12:44Oh, I'm seeing a lot of active. Seeing a lot of active, as you
- 1:12:48would expect. We're not that we're old.
- 1:12:50We're not that old. OK, OK, OK.
- 1:12:58It was a decent year. I like, I like.
- 1:13:01I think I like 94 better than 93.
- 1:13:06Think I like 94. I'll tell you what, I'm glad we
- 1:13:10both locked up our pictures because I'd hate to be missing
- 1:13:12out on these names. Yeah, I know.
- 1:13:15Woof, give me. Come on, come on.
- 1:13:23Give me Kyle Funkhouser, March 16th.
- 1:13:30No, give me feel like I know my answer, unfortunately.
- 1:13:48But you know what? I got it.
- 1:13:49Oh. Shut up, you suck, dude, Shut
- 1:14:01up, you suck. That's a tough, tough draw
- 1:14:09there, guy. Oh God, just going.
- 1:14:16To go ahead and write your answer down.
- 1:14:20What a joke dude. That's so nice.
- 1:14:25I hate this. I hate everything about this.
- 1:14:31Why even bother now? Dude, why even bother?
- 1:14:36Draft is over. The draft is over.
- 1:14:42That was so stupid. I don't want to.
- 1:14:44I don't want to log up one my own field spots.
- 1:14:48Misses out on the best player in the game immediately after.
- 1:14:53Unbelievable. All right, Give me golly, man.
- 1:15:01Oh boy. Give me freaking God.
- 1:15:09I'm just loading up on guys I just cannot stand.
- 1:15:14Give me freaking Pete Alonso, I guess.
- 1:15:20Unbelievable. You've lucked into that, man.
- 1:15:25For those who couldn't do the math there, Shohei Otani was
- 1:15:28born in 1994. Oh yeah, was he?
- 1:15:31He'll be slotting in my DH. You didn't want to go Matt Olson
- 1:15:34over Pete Alonso, huh? Didn't even see him.
- 1:15:38Yeah, I think whatever. And I get to go first.
- 1:15:45Give me a Goodyear guy. Next year up is 1992.
- 1:15:59I hate this. Let's figure it out here.
- 1:16:01Hey, it's. A long It's a long draft.
- 1:16:07Shut up. Well, it feels good, but I'm
- 1:16:12just going to double check, make sure, yeah.
- 1:16:14All you're good. He seems to be the the key to
- 1:16:19victory. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:16:21This guy just turns the he's the, he's the, the, the stir
- 1:16:26that straws the drink with these drafts.
- 1:16:28Yeah, just pick it. Pick your guy, dude.
- 1:16:32Come on. Oh.
- 1:16:33There's I can't. What are you talking about?
- 1:16:39Because I'm taking Aaron Judge. OK, I'll you know what?
- 1:16:44I'm glad. I think that's fine.
- 1:16:47I think I think that's fine. That's a win right there.
- 1:16:49You're right, I I would have been forced to pick Aaron Judge
- 1:16:54and that would have crushed my soul to have Giancarlo Stanton,
- 1:16:57Pete Alonso and Aaron Judge on the same team.
- 1:17:00So thank you for choosing Aaron Judge.
- 1:17:02I will gladly take. Well, OK, what does this mean?
- 1:17:08I mean, I guess infield Vermookie Betts, correct?
- 1:17:12Wherever you want, I'll I'll let that, I'll let that slide.
- 1:17:15I'll go infield. OK, I'm going to move them then.
- 1:17:22So thank you, Aaron Judge. Wow.
- 1:17:25Mookie over Bryce Harper, huh? Yeah, I, I had a moment.
- 1:17:31It was almost like we're drafting a fantasy team and I
- 1:17:33had a moment of panic, like I was up against the clock or
- 1:17:35something. So I just saw Mookie Betts and
- 1:17:37just immediately jump to it. I mean, it's probably the right
- 1:17:42pick, right? I feel like it's the right pick,
- 1:17:44but I for you. I love me, don't get me wrong.
- 1:17:47Don't get me wrong, I love me some Bryce.
- 1:17:49For sure I think it's the right pick, but for I just wasn't
- 1:17:52sure. Trying to win a draft here.
- 1:17:54Trying to win a draft. I feel good.
- 1:18:01Do you feel good? Oh yeah, I bet.
- 1:18:06You're up first. Am I up first all right?
- 1:18:19The next sorry spaced out there for a SEC next year is 2001, uh.
- 1:18:30Oh. This is interesting.
- 1:18:32This this could be interesting this.
- 1:18:34Is going to make me feel really old.
- 1:18:39Stop. Am I up?
- 1:18:40I'm up first. Yeah.
- 1:18:42Love that. Really, really love that.
- 1:18:45You might not. I love that for me.
- 1:18:57Yep. No, I definitely hate it.
- 1:18:59Yeah, it's tough luck buddy. I even gave you the option with.
- 1:19:03This draft, this draft really, really blows.
- 1:19:08Really, really blows. Wow.
- 1:19:17All right. Well, I guess I can go ahead and
- 1:19:19write yours down. This sucks, man.
- 1:19:28You're telling me there's nobody else?
- 1:19:32You're telling me there's no. What do I need?
- 1:19:38I need a catcher and three outfielders.
- 1:19:41Holy cow, man. This guy comes back to me almost
- 1:20:06every draft it seems, where I have an opportunity to choose
- 1:20:09him and I'm going to have to choose him.
- 1:20:11He's the kiss of death for these drafts.
- 1:20:13Give me Francisco Alvarez behind the dish.
- 1:20:22Can't stand this guy. I'm going to have such.
- 1:20:25As for those that don't have the list in front of them.
- 1:20:27Yeah, I bet. Your boys going Gunner
- 1:20:29Henderson. Yeah, I bet, no doubt.
- 1:20:31But unfortunately, Kyle filled up his infield a little too
- 1:20:36quickly. So dumb next time we do this
- 1:20:41stupid infield outfield thing, note to self don't log up one
- 1:20:46side of the field or or or one level of the field too soon what
- 1:20:50a stupid move by me what a stupid move and you get to
- 1:20:55choose first love that for us we've done 89 we've.
- 1:21:03Wait, that was 96? No, that was.
- 1:21:07No, that was. Doesn't want you like.
- 1:21:08Sorry. We've done 89 just to 2001.
- 1:21:15Yeah, 2003. Yo, whoa, whoa.
- 1:21:24I feel like this bodes well for me, although may not matter.
- 1:21:332003 Who? What young bucks were born in
- 1:21:362003? It's a good list.
- 1:21:39Give me Jackson Merrill on the outfield.
- 1:21:50I mean what? Can I?
- 1:21:52You have to do, Jason. This, this, this sucks, dude.
- 1:21:57I, I forfeit the draft, I forfeit the.
- 1:22:02I mean, you talk about just things falling into your lap.
- 1:22:05This is crazy. This is crazy.
- 1:22:12I need a freaking catcher ASAP. I don't want to get screwed
- 1:22:16here. If you can't properly fill out
- 1:22:19your lineup. If you can't properly fill out
- 1:22:22your lineup, you're forced to forfeit.
- 1:22:24So if you can't. Get a catcher if you can't get
- 1:22:27your catcher in the last pick, Yeah, I win by default.
- 1:22:31I'm going to put that in the note.
- 1:22:34I'm going to leave your catcher spot blank the next year and I
- 1:22:38am up. I'm so mad at myself.
- 1:22:42Did we do 86? No.
- 1:22:47No. No chance.
- 1:22:49There's going to be an active outfielder from 90, from 86, no
- 1:22:54chance. Yikes.
- 1:22:59Yeah, that's a good, that's a good way to start this year.
- 1:23:04Yikes dude. Oh boy.
- 1:23:14What do I do? I can't.
- 1:23:16There's nothing, dude. There's nothing I can do.
- 1:23:18I can't put you Darvish in my outfield.
- 1:23:20Might have to bro. There's nobody.
- 1:23:33OK, I guess by default. So, so bad.
- 1:23:42I don't even know why I'm bother looking.
- 1:23:44He's the only guy that fits the bill for me here.
- 1:23:46Shout out. Hey, shout out.
- 1:23:48Brandon Snyder, friend of the pod meme meme legend Mark
- 1:23:57Trumbo. Mark Trumbo is not active.
- 1:24:01Come on, Baseball Almanac. What are we doing?
- 1:24:05Matt Weeders. You can put Matt Weeders behind
- 1:24:09the dish. No, you can't, because he's not
- 1:24:12active. Oh bro Wallace, friend of the
- 1:24:16pod. Friend of the pod?
- 1:24:19Well, go ahead and give me Andrew McCutcheon in the
- 1:24:23outfield. Well, only because I'm not
- 1:24:31really stressing anymore. I'm going to go ahead and put
- 1:24:38Martine Maldonado behind the dish.
- 1:24:40Yeah, I. Bet you are.
- 1:24:42I bet you are. Now watch to round it out for
- 1:24:48your for your outfield or for your infield.
- 1:24:51You're going to get like 97 or. Something give me like late 90s,
- 1:24:56give me late 90s Ninety 899 would be real nice.
- 1:25:04So I need an outfielder and you need an infielder, correct This.
- 1:25:14I talked too much noise before we started.
- 1:25:17I mean, they you wouldn't. This is going to be a bloodbath.
- 1:25:19This is going to be rough I think.
- 1:25:21But, but hear me out on this. This is going to this is going
- 1:25:26to put my theory to the test about who's.
- 1:25:29I mean, obviously this last draft was wasn't exception
- 1:25:34because I end up winning and I chose second.
- 1:25:36But I'm going to be curious to see if they see who's first, if
- 1:25:39who's listed first, if that's going to play any sort of
- 1:25:42impact. The only sure and Mookie.
- 1:25:44Sure. And Mookie, The X Factor,
- 1:25:47apparently I'm not going to win the draft, but it's going to,
- 1:25:50it's going to be very telling if it's a very close poll result.
- 1:25:55And in that it will tell me that whoever chooses first and is on
- 1:25:59the left, that's a that's a key factor apparently for the days
- 1:26:04so that that'll tell me all I need to know.
- 1:26:05But the final. Year win this, I don't know.
- 1:26:10I don't know if we can continue to do drafts, to be honest.
- 1:26:12Look, I'll go ahead and I'll go ahead and forfeit right now.
- 1:26:15I'm not even going to present like I'll I'll make the graphic,
- 1:26:18I'll put the poll out. But if for whatever reason the
- 1:26:21voters are idiots and choose me to.
- 1:26:23Win. I think we got to take it out of
- 1:26:25their hands. I yeah, I I forfeit.
- 1:26:27I forfeit the the draft. All right, 91.
- 1:26:34OK, OK, I need whoa, Oh no, I read that wrong.
- 1:26:45Daddy needs an infielder from 9:00 to 1:00.
- 1:26:52And I need an outfielder. Is there any?
- 1:26:58Chance to salvage this draft with the last minute Hail Mary
- 1:27:04from the outfield. It's hard to say, bud.
- 1:27:07You never know what it's hard. If I would have, man, if I would
- 1:27:13have thought, if I would have used some sense, I would have
- 1:27:17drafted my outfielders with the younger years.
- 1:27:21I don't know what I was thinking.
- 1:27:22I should have you. You saved.
- 1:27:24You saved the youth, or I'm sorry, you saved the older years
- 1:27:28for your infield slash dhi. Could have waited it out on
- 1:27:32catcher. Dang it.
- 1:27:34Real muto. Oh, I mean that would have just
- 1:27:38the draft is already over, but I mean that.
- 1:27:41I do concur. Whoa.
- 1:27:42Marcus Stroman available. Hello.
- 1:27:47Oh dude, you might be able to salvage this thing.
- 1:27:50No, I know what you're looking at.
- 1:27:52That's not enough. It's not enough to move the
- 1:27:54needle. You don't think?
- 1:27:56Nah. It's a good get.
- 1:27:59I mean, it's an OK yet, but it's not going to win.
- 1:28:02It's not going to salvage the draft.
- 1:28:04Fair enough. Give me Nolan Arenado.
- 1:28:09Why even bother? All right, Rounding it out 1991,
- 1:28:20I need an outfielder. Your outfield was in shambles
- 1:28:25before this. Dude, I have Jason Dominguez,
- 1:28:36who's barely had a cup of coffee at the big leagues, and Andrew
- 1:28:40McCutcheon, who I think probably single handedly broke the coffee
- 1:28:44machine in the big leagues for my outfield.
- 1:28:50That's fun. Give me Rob Reschneider, come on
- 1:29:01down now. Give me, I'm in.
- 1:29:08Whatever. Fine, give me that's that's
- 1:29:15really the only option here. It's really the only option.
- 1:29:21Hey, shut up. Kevin Gosman, 91, Gimme.
- 1:29:27Come on, guy. I'm just doing my due diligence
- 1:29:30here. I mean, it's too little, too
- 1:29:31late. Gimme Rich Nelich, Who did I
- 1:29:41miss? I'll just erase that and write
- 1:29:44in Yelich. Who did I miss?
- 1:29:48Hold on, let me figure this out myself.
- 1:29:49Mike Trout. Oh, but Christian Yelich has
- 1:30:01been written in permanent markers, So what are you doing?
- 1:30:10Oh, oh, that's so good. You are stacked in the outfield,
- 1:30:23my man Stacked. Oh.
- 1:30:31I'm sitting here going, I mean, it's an OK game.
- 1:30:34Like, really? You think like, yeah, no.
- 1:30:36Christian Yelich for sure. I hate.
- 1:30:41I don't. I didn't care for this draft.
- 1:30:45I did not care for this draft. This if if I am not winning this
- 1:30:53with at least 70% of the vote, I'm going to be disappointed.
- 1:31:00That's an embarrassment to I got to.
- 1:31:05Can you can you wrap us up here? I got to I threw my pad.
- 1:31:09No, I threw my pen in pad. I got to pick it up.
- 1:31:14Well ladies and gents, you saw what true talent looks like.
- 1:31:19I honestly might start adding these to my resume.
- 1:31:23I think being AGM in this league is feasible and as our man is
- 1:31:32absolutely falling apart and throwing a temper tantrum, you
- 1:31:40guys are incredible. Thanks for sticking it out if
- 1:31:42you're still here. Real big cheers to you, but
- 1:31:46don't go chasing curveballs. Can I no stop?
- 1:31:49We're not done yet. Can I?
- 1:31:55That's me wrapping it up. Can I?
- 1:31:57Is there anything I can do to to make the trout thing happen?
- 1:32:02No, absolutely not. I mean, we, we can have a trade
- 1:32:04conversation if you'd like. True.
- 1:32:06Oh, true. Yeah, we didn't even entertain
- 1:32:08that. I'll give you Christian Yelich.
- 1:32:10I mean, I'll, I'll take. I'll take Jackson Merrill.
- 1:32:17I guess I'm just trying to do you a favor.
- 1:32:20You give me Christian Yelich or I'll give you Christian Yelich.
- 1:32:24We can swap catchers and I'm down.
- 1:32:28Oh yeah, no, definitely want Martine.
- 1:32:30Maldonado for sure. I don't really round out my
- 1:32:32team. Is that pun intended?
- 1:32:36Because that dudes round, I'll give you, I'll tell you what,
- 1:32:44I'll, I'll, I'll roll out. I won't even roll out a complete
- 1:32:50line up. If you want to, if you want to
- 1:32:53make a tray, I'll, I'll go like a three for one.
- 1:32:58What am I going to do with that? Put them on your bench.
- 1:33:02I don't need that. There's no rule saying you
- 1:33:04can't. Have a bench I don't need.
- 1:33:06That. We can get weird with.
- 1:33:09It I just got it. I mean I got.
- 1:33:10It I'm I'm throwing a Hail Mary here and it's been batted down
- 1:33:16incomplete. All right, well, don't go.
- 1:33:20Chasing curve balls, folks. Yeah, I bet we love you all.
- 1:33:23And as always. Looking forward to talking more
- 1:33:25baseball with you guys. Soon.
- 1:33:26Until next time, draft Mike Trout.
