- 1:45it is opening day for the regatta. We had a lot of regatta
- 1:48talk, specifically about two events that are actually three that are part of the
- 1:53regatta. We're going to get into that a little bit later on. Plush,
- 1:56your calls and text are welcome to but without further ado, let's bring
- 1:59in the Governor of the great State of West Virginia, the Honorable Jim Justice.
- 2:01Governor Justice, good morning, Welcome to the show. No, Dave,
- 2:06thank you so much for having me. Thank you for wish everybody the
- 2:08greatest regard it that we've ever had. So I hope everybody has a wonderful
- 2:14time and a great, great celebration in Charleston. I want to talk about
- 2:17Governor. The big news from Monday, big gathering at the Culture Center to
- 2:22celebrate baby Dog was there. There were balloons. I ought to celebrate this
- 2:25huge multimillion dollar surplus and now you'd like to cut taxes even further. Talk
- 2:31about that, sir well, Dave. At the end of the day,
- 2:37you know, once you get this thing, this engine, really running,
- 2:39you got to keep it going. And whine in the world do we think
- 2:44that these dollars are ours as legislator or whomever? I mean, you know,
- 2:49why do we think that they're there for our pet projects and everything.
- 2:53They're people's dollars. That's all there is to it. And at the end
- 2:57of the day, there is nothing there is and I think there never will
- 3:00be anything that will spur our economy in West Virginia more than getting rid of
- 3:07our state income tax. And so for us to sit back and try to
- 3:10say, well, let's do this, let's you know, take a little
- 3:14tidbit now, you know, maybe we'll do three percent now, and you
- 3:17know, we'll do two percent next year and everything for God's sakes to live
- 3:21and all of us will be dead and gone one hundred times over before we
- 3:25ever get there. And at the end of the day, what we want
- 3:29to do is absolutely just continue to try to do all that is possible while
- 3:35minding the store and the right way we've done that. It's dogged one tough
- 3:39to argue that in the last three years we've ended up with four billion dollars
- 3:46of surplus money, four billion dollars in West Virginia for God's takes to live,
- 3:53and nobody in the world and the right mind can say we didn't take
- 3:55care of the store the right way. We kept almost a flat budget,
- 4:00and absolutely we can do this, and we need to do it. We
- 4:03need to put more money back in the pockets of our people. And that's
- 4:08why I'm saying now right now, we need to not only do the trigger
- 4:12amount, which is going to be either three or four percent, so we
- 4:15need to do an additional fight and so and all that's doing is putting money
- 4:20back in the pockets of West Virginia and they'll spend it here. I mean,
- 4:25and it just makes more people want to come to West Virginia. It
- 4:28absolutely does everything. And don't forget the child care. Absolutely we really need
- 4:33to do our childcare tax credit. Wow, when God Hurst we didn't do
- 4:38that, Who in the world will ever know? It was four point two
- 4:42million dollars and in the scope of things, not very much. Why we
- 4:46didn't do that, I'll never know. And the last thing I got add
- 4:48is just this day, if we want real money constantly a for needs like
- 4:56corrections or foster care or the hungry or whatever it may be. If we
- 5:01want real money is we have to have a thriving economy. And to have
- 5:06a thriving economy, you've got to be a business guy and you've got to
- 5:11stay on your toes. And that's exactly what we've done. And this is
- 5:14exactly what we ought to do. Governor, a couple of things where we
- 5:15let you go, what would you say to those and I'll keep it brief,
- 5:18that say that that we should be extremely cautious and they're a little a
- 5:25little scared of some of these proposals. I would tell to watch the movie
- 5:30Heat and and see Melissa McCarthy come into the boss's office and be searching for
- 5:39something. But you know, I absolutely would tell you that. Look,
- 5:45I mean it's hard to argue. I mean, I don't know how in
- 5:48the world we argue that we've not done the right thing with the Cares money.
- 5:54We did the right thing looking after COVID, We've done the right thing.
- 5:59Grow in thisemy, We've done the right thing keeping the budget flat.
- 6:02Why in the world would we now be doing the wrong thing? And listen,
- 6:09you know, for people that want to sit on the sidelines and do
- 6:13nothing. Then at the end of the day, we will get exactly ultimately,
- 6:17in the end, we will get you mark it down days because I'm
- 6:20not going to be here very much longer, and all on all honesty,
- 6:25we will get exactly what we deserve. And that is just this. When
- 6:30I walked in the door, we had nowhere to turn. People were leaving
- 6:34our state like crazy. They were going to Atlanta and Charlotte that were looking
- 6:39for jobs. You know, they had to. You know, there was
- 6:43nowhere to turn except one place, and that was make additional cut. Every
- 6:48single blooming year we cut people. And the more we cut, the more
- 6:55left now if we want that, and absolutely, if you get today,
- 7:00do you think there'll be a dollar for corrections, or a dollar for foster
- 7:04care, or a dollar for our arts and history and culture, or dollar
- 7:10for the hungry? No way, no way, absolutely will be a disaster.
- 7:15So we better listen to a business guy that's got a track record that's
- 7:20probably dog one good. So I love all the people listening to to beyond
- 7:26good sense too. And the last thing I say, I got to say
- 7:29this, Dave, if I've done anything, you know, I have given
- 7:35us hope, and you know, really and truly I have made his laugh
- 7:42and I made us proud you know, of who we are in many many
- 7:46different ways. I told us to dream big and believe. But in addition
- 7:50to that, I did one thing, and Dave, it's the God's truth
- 7:55if I die, and that is this. I showed everybody who really important.
- 8:01Who's really important. It's Toby Neden public, the voters, in all
- 8:05honesty, that's who's important and really and true. It's not us as legislatures
- 8:11or governors or whomever it may be. It's the people. And I showed
- 8:16everybody the dog gone people were important, and they spoke, They spoke on
- 8:20roast and prosperity, they spoke on amendmic io, they spoke. They spoke
- 8:24it in elections. Absolutely, and if we don't, if we turn our
- 8:28back on the people, we're gonna be dumb buddies. That's all there is
- 8:33to it. And I'm not gonna do that, Governor, before we let
- 8:35you go, just's a couple of one thing I wouldn't want to bring up,
- 8:37you know. As you mentioned, the regatta kicks off this week.
- 8:39Part of the regatta is the hot dog eating contest. This year, among
- 8:43all those greasy men on stage, there's a woman, one lone woman that
- 8:48is under the competition, competing against the man. Her name is Casey Foster,
- 8:52and she has already in studio of me, because she is going to
- 8:54be the next guest on the show after you. She's here in the studio,
- 8:56Governor, would you like to take this time to wish her luck for
- 8:58all of womankind? Casey kicker, But you can do it. You can
- 9:05do it. I would love it to death. Go do it, you
- 9:09know, I mean, you got more guts than I've got. That's today,
- 9:13I'm sure. But I'm rooting for you now, all right, Governor.
- 9:16We'll let you go. I appreciate you being here, have a happy
- 9:18and say fourth of July. We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot,
- 9:22works everybody, Bye bye. At nine sixteen, phone calls to Dave Allan
- 9:26chilli service of Big Lee Pickley Wiggly on Spring Street and Charleston texting services provided
- 9:30by West Virginia's finance Men's store. Tony the Taylor, Virginia Street, Charleston,
- 9:33visit Bestmaster Taylor dot com. And we've had a Tony the Taylor sighting
- 9:37in the building this morning. He's going to be coming up a little bit
- 9:41later on the show. Casey Foster I mentioned, is here the only female
- 9:43to enter the hot dog eating contest Regain and Regatta this year. Casey,
- 9:48good morning, good morning. Are you the governor's on your side? You
- 9:52got that going for you? What in the world made you want to do
- 9:54this? Enter at the er hot dog eating contest with all those guys Because
- 9:58you're not the first woman to do it. There been other women in the
- 10:00past, but you're the first woman this year, right, the only woman
- 10:03this year? Right? Yes, there was one woman last year. Last
- 10:05year was the first year that they had it at Rigatta. Anyway, my
- 10:11nickname is the hot Dog Queen. I did advertising for the Charleston Gazette mal
- 10:16for over a decade, and one of my jobs was traveling the state looking
- 10:20for great food. And every July I would go to all these restaurants around
- 10:24West Virginia pick the best hot dogs. And my record is sixty four hot
- 10:28dogs in a month. And so I love hot dogs. And I was
- 10:33looking on social media. I was looking at the contestants and I realized,
- 10:37Hey, there's ten men, there's no women. We got to be represented.
- 10:41And so I thought, hey, it's my calling. I got to
- 10:43do it all right. And you had another reason for wanting to do it
- 10:46too, out of your personal lifeview. You and I have never met till
- 10:50today, but I do follow you on social media. And your mother passed
- 10:56and you're kind of doing this in her honor? Is that right? Yes?
- 10:58My mother in February was diagnosed with skin cancer, metastatic melanoma, and
- 11:05it broke her back in three places. It went from her skull, her
- 11:07shoulder, her spinal cord, her lungs, at her liver, and she
- 11:13passed away three months after her diagnosis. She passed away on May seventeenth.
- 11:18My mom was a huge foodie. She was my biggest fan, and like
- 11:22her already. My mom was the greatest And I kind of put my life
- 11:28on hold while she was sick, and I'm just now coming out of that
- 11:31haze. And my mom would love this. She would be in the front
- 11:35row rooting for me, biggest cheerleader there were in the governor Apparently she would
- 11:41have loved that too. So what time? And this is on the fourth
- 11:43right. This is as part of we Gotta and What Time? Yes,
- 11:46it's tomorrow at five o'clock, five o'cli. It sponsored by Tutors Tutors Biscuits.
- 11:50Word. Okay, So how have you been trying? How does one
- 11:54train for something like that? Because here's the thing. You see these hot
- 11:56dog eating contests on television, you know, the Nathan's for the July and
- 12:01everything. I have MC. I've never entered, but I have MC a
- 12:03couple of hot dog eating contests. The people that are on these stages are
- 12:07not professional, so to speak. I mean I think they're not. They're
- 12:11not you know, they're not gonna be doing seventy or eighty or something crazy
- 12:13like that, like like Joey Chestnut would do, although he's not in it
- 12:16this year. So how does one train being an amateur for this? Okay,
- 12:20Well, what I've been doing is I have been researching. I've been
- 12:24watching videos on YouTube. I've been looking at other contests, what they do,
- 12:28best techniques and so forth, and I think that I've picked a technique
- 12:31that is right for me. And it's not the standard way. You can't
- 12:35just sit down and eat a hot dog like normal. These are plane winers,
- 12:39plane bun You can bring condiments if you choose there you are you going
- 12:43to bring the condiments one of yours? No? Okay, no, no,
- 12:46I mean I would think if if I were doing it, I would
- 12:48say no, no, no, no, that's just going to take up
- 12:50time. Yeah. Now, because you see these people that just shove them
- 12:52all in their mouth, and you see people that break them up and dip
- 12:54them in water. There's all kinds of different There's a whole lot that goes,
- 12:58be goes. Then what's what's the grand price is? Actually they have
- 13:01a big hot dog trophy from arm Beaver. Okay, well there you go,
- 13:05there you go. Well, we wish you the best to like text
- 13:07here says oh my gosh, that lady sounds like Milly Snyder. You know
- 13:11who. Melle Snyder is the owner of the Shape Shop. She's on my
- 13:15show about once a month to tell me how bad I eat. Totally.
- 13:18I met her a few times when I was working in advertising. All right,
- 13:20so so you sound like it, You sound like Melly Snyder. I
- 13:22never thought of that. I don't think. I don't think this contests Melly
- 13:26Snyder approved though. I really don't know. No, no, no,
- 13:30no. Actually, I'm going to be going in hungry. That way I
- 13:33can feel up, and that's you know. I've heard people, if you
- 13:37remember the show Man Versus Food, they talked about in order to prepare for
- 13:41those eating challenges, that some people had different strategies. They would not eat
- 13:46for a day or so, and then other people said, no, I
- 13:48just eat little amounts. So I guess this is whatever works for you right
- 13:50now. Some people do stomach stretching actually, so they eat as much as
- 13:54they possibly can to stretch out their stomach as much as they can so they
- 13:58can get as many hot dogs as they can. In me, I know
- 14:01my body. So I'm going in hungry because when I'm hungry, I can
- 14:05eat like a horse. Well, we wish you the best of luck and
- 14:09it's been a pleasure getting to know you. I know you made the rounds,
- 14:11you survived Steve Animal and robbery on and so you get me last.
- 14:15So thanks for being here and we'll all be and the governor apparently is going
- 14:18to be a cheering you on as well. Wooo, thank you. Casey
- 14:22Foster, the only female to enter the Hot dog eating contest this year at
- 14:26the regard of five o'clock tomorrow on the main stage. Is that right is
- 14:28on the main stage and I've got more regott to talk coming up a little

- 18:08with these characters called Tony and Edith or I'm sorry, not Tony and Edith.
- 18:11Toby and Edith to kind of be the average West Virginian. Although I

- 21:30spayed or neutered over twenty seven thousand animals from all over the all over the
- 21:37county, other counties, surrounding counties as far as Wyoming County, and in
- 21:42twenty twenty three last year, we were really close to hitting almost six thousand
- 21:48span neoter surgeries from owned pets, shelter pets, community cats, and feral
- 21:56cats as well community demand for high quality spain Hooter has been overwhelming since opening,
- 22:04so we're actually seeking a full time veterinarian. And this this is really
- 22:12important. It's not just spain Hooter. A lot of these animals coming in
- 22:15for spain Hooter, it's their first and only time at a veterinarian. So
- 22:18we try and offer other services like de wormer, fleetich, treatment of bet
- 22:23exam and really make it count for the first and last time this animal sees
- 22:26a vetinarian and then permanently is sterilized so they can no longer contribute to the
- 22:32pet overpopulation problem which we see. It seems like it every shelter and every
- 22:37nook and Craney shelters are overflowing with cats and dogs And the answer is just
- 22:41spain Hooter. You're speaking, you're preaching to the choir here, Tony.
- 22:45What's your involvement in all this? The eye candy right, Well, I
- 22:51have somebody has to be pretty yeah, So I got involved last year sponsoring
- 22:55the Wiener Dog Race with them, and that's my second year going. So
- 23:00we print up the T shirts, we donate them, so every T shirt
- 23:03sold, one hundred percent of the money goes to the fix. Some clinic.
- 23:07That's awesome for that. And now this year I'm volunteering because and I'm
- 23:11also on the board now and so now all the other board members leave except
- 23:15for Amber and I. So her and I get to go sell t shirts
- 23:18and if anybody can sell, it's you. But I like to mention some
- 23:22of the other sponsors who help this happens. Our list of sponsors is the
- 23:26best electric who is I believe has been involved the entire time, Subtle on
- 23:30Stonicker CPAs, Mountain Juice, John Alderman his office, the Bullock Distillery,
- 23:40Bailey Javens and Carter, the Charles Stormer. God helps. They give us
- 23:45volunteers to help, and of course Tony the Taylor and it should be fun,
- 23:51kid friendly. Uh. There's a dress up contest for the dogs and
- 23:55it's a fantastic grace. It has been going on. How long is this
- 23:57gone on? Amber? I believe the Wonard dog races have been going on.
- 24:03They originally started on the East End before the clinic was even established.
- 24:07Wow, it's been a long time now. This is all the Magic Island
- 24:11Saturday registration starts at eight thirty Is that right? A thirty nine? Okay?
- 24:17And our own Stephen Jenny from her sister station V one hundred are going
- 24:19to be there, I understand. So if people want to register, is
- 24:25there registration process or do they just show up with their dogs? So there's
- 24:29a registration process. There are some entry fees, and of course all of
- 24:33those fees go towards our mission of low cost, high volume Spain uter.
- 24:37So to show up between eight thirty and ten thirty is registration on Magic Island
- 24:42this Saturday. Register There's some different categories to register. There's costume contests,
- 24:48actual races and things like that that you can register for between those time frames.
- 24:55All right, well, Amber, it was a pleasure getting to know
- 24:56you. Hopefully you can choose better friends Tony the Taylor moving forward. So
- 25:03and and I will say in all serious since I one hundred percent believing what
- 25:06you folks are doing there. So anytime that you ever need airtime with me,
- 25:08all you got to do is you know, you know how to get
- 25:10a hold of me. Now, just getting to get a hold of me,
- 25:12We'll give you some airtime. Again. It's all at Magic Island as
- 25:15part of regatta Saturday registration eight thirty nine o'clock or so, come on out
- 25:19Steven, Jenny will be there, Tony the Taylor, and yourself. Amber
- 25:22will be out there hawking some T shirts and all the money raised goes to
- 25:26the Fix Some Clinic. I know you've got a Facebook page because I was
- 25:29looking at it last night about the fix some Clinic. Is that pretty much
- 25:32the best way to find out more information, not about this event, but
- 25:34just about the fix Some Clinic in general. So our Facebook is updated almost
- 25:40every day. However, our website fixomclinic dot org that's fixe mclinic dot org
- 25:47has a full list of services that we provide, our pricing list and things
- 25:52like that, and then our website really gives I'm sorry, our Facebook gives
- 25:56them more of an updated on a day to day operations as are only currently
- 26:00we have about half of that area that we're working with right now, so
- 26:03our schedule varies with walking surgeries as well as wellness exams and health exams and
- 26:11things like that. So website and Facebook, all right, Amber, will
- 26:15let you go and let you get back to us. As you said,
- 26:18between me and Tony and Antoine, somebody has to work here, so we'll
- 26:21let you go, okay, right, someone has to have a job saynoter
- 26:25and at the end of the Wiener dog race, at the regard to no
- 26:29matter winner or losers, everybody's a Wiener. Oh I see what you did
- 26:33there? All right? Amber, I appreciate you. Thanks a lot,
- 26:37good luck and everything. Thanks for Amber again. From the Fixed Some Clinic.

- 26:52and very beautiful too, and unlike you, i'd like me. I appreciate
- 26:56By the way, I'm gonna give you a couple minutes here because I appreciate
- 27:00ate you for signing up to sponsor the text line here. What's what's new
- 27:04to Tony the Taylor. We just had our big annual sidewalk sale, which
- 27:10is highly successful, and we wind down a little bit for vacation in July.
- 27:14Ryan is getting ready to have a baby on the sixteenth. Well he's
- 27:18not be a miracle, but so he's a nervous wreck and he needs people
- 27:22to come in and buy something because he's on commission because the new baby.
- 27:26And he has had a replace of rough on his house too, so he's
- 27:27he's a little stressed. So in other words, you don't put in other
- 27:32words, you don't pay a living wage. Yeah, well you you work,
- 27:34you live. But yeah, it's all going good. We will be
- 27:40closed, yeah, the last week of July for vacation and regul vacation,
- 27:45and then we head back at it for August. Get ready for fault.
- 27:48What's the big things in August in the world of tailoring. There, we
- 27:52prepare. We have a couple of early birds specials that we'll be announcing,
- 27:57and then we announced our trunk shows, which are highly popular and mostly in
- 28:00September and part of October. Unfortunately, and I'm a Tony the Taylor Shopper,
- 28:04but unfortunately I did not make it down for the sidewalk sale last week.
- 28:08But I will say I had reports that there were people lined up outside
- 28:11the door. Twenty two people lined up at love me, I love it,
- 28:15just to see what you had to offer. Yeah, I know my
- 28:18man what he would said. He was on his way down there, so
- 28:19I know you take care of he's still on his way down there. That's
- 28:25if you know what, that's that's pretty and Antoine, his son, you
- 28:30know, works for us. Now that's our that's our producer. Antoine's going,
- 28:33yeah, that's my dad. I know, I know. Well,
- 28:36if somebody's got to work in that family, that's exactly right. All right.
- 28:40So again, you're one of the sponsors. You're helping out with this
- 28:42thing. You're doing the T shirts and everything for the Winer Dog Race.
- 28:45It is eight thirty. I'm sorry, I get my events Saturday morning,
- 28:52thirty nine. Registration. Come on down there to start at eleven. And
- 28:56as somebody who's been around Charleston since the late eighteen hundreds, as you have,
- 29:02what does regotta coming back to Charleston mean mean for you? It means
- 29:06for me reliving my childhood. I'm glad to keep it small just a few
- 29:11days. I was around when We're got a very first start at the very
- 29:14first one. We were kids and rode our bikes down and checked it out
- 29:17and watch the bands play on the back of a flatbed tractor trailer. And
- 29:22then he kind of mushroomed into something that was too much. And then of
- 29:26course when they ran all of the chemical uh industry out of here, of
- 29:30course, sponsorships dropped and Gotta suffered from that, but now it's back scaled
- 29:36down. I have to give credit to Brian Hughes uh in his direction,
- 29:41and he has been a fantaic fantabulous. Uh. That's a great word,
- 29:45especially for Brian. Uh. It just does a great job and keeps it,
- 29:52keeps it real and spends the money correctly. And and again I get
- 29:56that from a lot of people because people and I get to it. But
- 29:59I had to on the show earlier this week and then people texting saying,
- 30:02well, you know, I want it to be this date and I want
- 30:03it to be that day. You're not going to please everybody, but the
- 30:06bottom line is, and I want to get your opinion before we let you
- 30:08go as a business owner, because you're open during we are closed. Actually
- 30:14you're closing because we give our employees holidays off. Okay, okay, Well
- 30:17I'm in during the regatta like you. So you're open, you open the
- 30:18day two days, our last day, we close tomorrow and where we reopen
- 30:22next Monday. Okay, all right, but but you see, as a
- 30:25business owner, what bringing all these people to Charleston, And not just Forgotta,
- 30:29but these everything we get. You know, we don't get direct business
- 30:33from regatta. We get the end direct business. We get the second and
- 30:36third dollars as they spend around the economy from the regatta. Uh, what
- 30:40we get direct business from are these huge soccer tournaments and travel sports. And
- 30:45we can't wait for the sports center to open downtown to it is amazing what
- 30:51travel and sports tourism does. See it all the time, I said,
- 30:53people do not realize what a big multi billion dollars coach fash pitch softball twenty
- 31:03years ago and was traveled all over and just one we couldn't do it here.
- 31:06Now we're doing it. It's fantastic now. Now kudos to everybody who
- 31:08is involved in that. Yeah, and so you're a big supporter of this
- 31:11downtown sport compliment. Yes, please please get it open fast enough, please
- 31:15bring how's your business? Very good? Very good? Thanks to things like
- 31:18that. And you know, we just try to take care of people so
- 31:22you know, quality product, quality service. And of course you know we
- 31:26keep around out front because he's a lot prettier than me. Well here's the
- 31:30reason I ask you that is because I hear it all the time people say
- 31:33that from a retail perspective that downtown Charleston is dying. Downtown Charleston is not
- 31:38without its issues, as is neither any city in America. But you're saying,
- 31:44and I saw you you posted this or something like that, you had
- 31:47a record year. We had a record year. Last year was a record
- 31:49year, and we are up twenty five percent over last year so far to
- 31:52date. So the rumors of downtown Charleston dying are greatly exaggerated. From a
- 31:59business have heard that. See, I've been downtown, will be fifty years
- 32:02September first, and we're still there. A lot of the stores are still
- 32:07there. Yeah, downtown is fantastic. And people who are naysayers, they're
- 32:13just naysayers and just and it's they have an agenda that basically they just have
- 32:16an agenda. They then said, we never come downtown. Well that's why,
- 32:22all right, come down Chown. Check it out, Tony. I
- 32:23appreciate you being here, man boys, Dave, and again everything gets underway
- 32:28at Magic Island Regstoration eight thirty nine o'clock or so on Saturday morning. You
- 32:31for the winter dog races, Stephen Jenny for every one hundred go to be
- 32:35there. And as always when we talk about dog racing. As David Letterman

- 36:47one of my heroes, and Lettermans has always said no wagering. So it's
- 36:51the exact quote from David Letterman. Christopher Lawrence is here. How are you
- 36:54man? It's going on? Man? How you doing? You ready for
- 36:58ready for all this fun, for vality of the regatta? I would,
- 37:00oh, yes, always ready for the regatta. I'm I'm looking forward to
- 37:04our day tomorrow, especially out on the Canal River with Trojan landing, and
- 37:08we'll be uh, we'll be out there on the boat and we're going to
- 37:10be passing out ice cream. I hope. Okay, I'm looking. I'm
- 37:15looking for dry ice. And I was told leading up to this that a
- 37:20couple of places had it, one of them no longer carries it, and
- 37:22one of them is out until Friday. And that doesn't do me any good.
- 37:25So if anybody knows where I can procure dry ice, please give the
- 37:30newsroom a call. I'd like to speak to you and give us that number.
- 37:34Please, three four to two five eight, oh okay, three oh
- 37:37four? All right. So we need dry ice. We need very important.
- 37:40We tried it last year without dry ice. And it was we were
- 37:44basically just handing out, you know, dying ice creams and it just didn't
- 37:47work out. So how does this whole thing get started with with with the
- 37:52with you guys and you and Carrie hands. Actually it was your idea.
- 37:55It was my idea. Yeah, it was your idea. I get involved
- 37:58in this. I don't know. I said, yeah, we didn't have
- 38:00anything to give out. We're just like out there riding around. I was
- 38:02like, we need something to give to people. He goes and you said,
- 38:04why don't you just give him ice cream? I said that, really
- 38:07you did. I got to start remembering what I say. Yeah, you
- 38:10said that, and I said, well you think he can help us out
- 38:14with ice cream? And then Palmer stepped up and they provided the ice cream.
- 38:17Okay, but now we need dry ice, Yeah, because I don't
- 38:21want to hand out soggy ice cream. So I got to get dry ice
- 38:22to make it happen. But it was a big hit everybody on the river.
- 38:25You know, it was hot and it's fourth of July, so you
- 38:29get I have ice cream. Well, I am sending a texas we speak
- 38:31right now to my man Tommy Clay. Tommy Clay, if you need anything
- 38:36done in Kanawa County. Tommy Clay knows about it, and the King of
- 38:38Bell was Virginia. I am reaching out to my man, Tommy Clay as
- 38:43we speak, all right, well, I need dry ice. I was
- 38:45told leading up this, so I didn't think there was any big deal that
- 38:49Kroger carried it in a couple of locations and that air Gas supply carried it
- 38:53and A contacted them. Kroger does not carry it. I was told today
- 38:58and air Gas said they're out, but they got more coming Friday, and
- 39:01I was like, that's a day late for what I needed. Okay,
- 39:05Well, we had a textas says dry eyes. Try air Gas, one
- 39:07Oregon Street, Charleston. Yeah they're out. Okay, they're out, texture
- 39:13try again. We appreciate the text, and Tommy says, call me.
- 39:17Well, I you know, I'm doing a talk show right now, so
- 39:21I'm gonna be able to do that right at any rate. And Tommy Clay's
- 39:24not the kind of guy you put on the air live. I'm just gonna
- 39:27say that's that goes for about ninety five percent of the people you hang with.
- 39:30Yes, that's one hundred percent true. Exactly what's one hundred percent true.
- 39:36So you guys are just up there floating on the river and if they,
- 39:37I mean have they. Yeah, we're just rolling around out there and
- 39:42uh and and we u we holler. You know's there's boats out in it.
- 39:45During the regatta. There are you know, pleasure craft all over the
- 39:47place, because a great place to take in the regatta is in a boat.
- 39:52And so the stage is up there and you can hear all the music
- 39:54playing. I'll never forget last year. We're out there roaming around and and
- 40:00Woody Woods is up on stage holding court and it's just it's entertaining just to
- 40:04hear Woody filled between a time as he will be tonight at the Shaggy concert.
- 40:08I'm sure, yes, so he will. He'll be filling the time
- 40:13up there on stage. In fact, I was texting him and he was
- 40:15giving us shout outs from the stage and we're out on the water. That's
- 40:17awesome. So all right, so the need is on for dry ice,
- 40:22yes, and order. This is like, this is kind of like the
- 40:24radiothons that we do for the price of a couple of coffee. I don't
- 40:29know how what dry ass called, but we need some dry ice. Yeah,
- 40:31we'd like you to sponsor Dave Allen and Chris Lawrence with some dry ice
- 40:36for this Fourth of July. All right, we need dry ice, and
- 40:38everybody's either out or closed. So if you know somebody that can provide dry
- 40:43ice, I will get it today. Yeah. I'll put it my own
- 40:45freezer overnight tonight, so we'll have it for tomorrow. Okay, But I
- 40:47just I just got to procure it. Or if we can make arrangements to
- 40:51pick it up tomorrow morning, that'd be even better. Okay, So give
- 40:53us the newsroom number again, three oh four three four two o five eight
- 40:59oh, and ask for Chris. That would be me, that would be
- 41:00you. Well, but you better get in there in case the phone's ring.
- 41:05I hope it does, all right, Chris, I appreciate you being
- 41:07here. Man, buddy'd say, what's your favorite part? I was gonna
- 41:08ask carry this, but she's busy on assignment right now. I'll ask you
- 41:12two, what's your favorite part of the menu for Fourth of July? What's
- 41:15your favorite thing? Oh? Goodness, gracious, I like it all but
- 41:19I guess we always have hot dogs and hamburgers, but this year my mom
- 41:27is having barbecue. So probably probably ribs. Oh yeah, I can't go
- 41:30wrong. I can't go wrong with ribs. But I'll eat just about every
- 41:35meat that's out there on the table. What about the sides? Are you
- 41:37a sides guy? Is he? Because I love the side dishes. When
- 41:40it comes to the fourth you give me a potatoes, salt of colesau,
- 41:45macaroni salad, baked beans. I'm a happy guy. I'm with all of
- 41:46that. I'm done with all that I do make. I always make a
- 41:51pasta salad that my brother seems to like it, and I don't have the
- 41:55heart to telling him that all it is it's it's instant, boxed up stuff.
- 42:00I just I just put some fresh stuff in it, and he thinks
- 42:02that I'm like Chef Paul. So a couple of texts here Matheson may have
- 42:07it, says a texture. I called Matheson and left them a message.
- 42:09They were busy helping other customers. Hopefully they'll call me back. Howl about,
- 42:15says a textra Buzz food Services. It's an idea. I don't thought
- 42:19about that. Okay, all right, well you can continue to text me
- 42:21and I'll get the information. Chris, or you can call him in the
- 42:22newsroom. Have a happiness, say fourth, my friend. Our listeners always
- 42:27come through for us, I always do. We got the best listeners in
- 42:29the world. Chris. I appreciate it. Man, thanks a lot.
- 42:30If you're on the river tomorrow, Holleratus will bring in ice cream. Hopefully
- 42:35it'll be solid. If not, it'll be it'll be a little bit.
- 42:38We'll give you a spoon. If it's not anybody, Hi, Chris Man.

- 46:31Financi sha Eric Tarr on the show this morning, someone who's found themselves at
- 46:35odds with the Governor UH from time to time. It seems to me,
- 46:40in listening to an interview that Senator Financial Aitar did with WMOV Radio out of
- 46:47Ravens Wood, I listened to some of that on my way in this morning
- 46:51that he seemed to got a little bit of pause about some of the things
- 46:53that the governor talked about both on talkline and also on my show earlier this
- 46:59morning, with the tax cuts and whatnot. Senator Tar is going to join
- 47:02Dave Wilson to talk about that, plus one of my favorite guests on the
- 47:06show that Hoppy and Dave have on from time to time. Robert Rupp from
- 47:09West Virginia, wesleyan political guru, extraordinary and simply one of the best.
- 47:14I listen to this guy talk all day in all seriousness. He's great at

- 49:04Fame as along with our own Jeff Jenkins so go down and hang out with
- 49:07the future Hall of Famer Woodie Woods. Now, if you need any information
- 49:12about any of the events we talked about with Regatta, and as I said,
- 49:14we've covered a lot of them today, they're all over. They're all
- 49:17over our pages, WV Metro News dot com, WCCHS Network dot com,
- 49:23my Facebook page, my Twitter, my ex whatever you want to call it.
- 49:27The City of Charleston, there's actually a Regatta Facebook page. So if
- 49:30you need exact timing, parking information, that's kind of a big deal because
- 49:34you know they're running shuttles back in. Information about the carnival, about the
- 49:37wrestling, whatever, all available all over the internet. You shouldn't have a
- 49:42hard time to find that. We are proud to be a part of Regatta.
- 49:45And as they say, you gotta Regatta. But Dave Island Show in
- 49:47five eighty Live is brought to you a part by your hometown baseball team,
- 49:51the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds playing the second game of a road series against
- 49:54Long Island tonight. They'll be back at Gomar Ballpark for a weekend series against
- 49:59Southern Maryland. They got a lot lot of things planned for this weekend.
- 50:01I understand to salute the military and our and our country and so on and
- 50:05so forth. They've got all that information available on their website, dirty birdsbaseball
- 50:08dot com and on their social media site as well. So as we head
- 50:12into the fourth of July weekend, many people, as I said, you
- 50:15know, they're going to be enjoying all the things that go with Independence Day.
- 50:20They're going to be enjoying the cookouts and the family gatherings and so on
- 50:24and so forth. I'm gonna get a little not sentimental, that's not the
- 50:29right word, but I will get a little serious here, just for a
- 50:30moment, take the time to realize that despite the fact that we are in
- 50:37a place in our country right now, and no, I've not been around
- 50:42for every year of the United States of America's existence, but we're in a
- 50:45place right now. But I don't know that we've ever been before. Because
- 50:50there's been strife in America. You think civil War obviously, you think of
- 50:53all these Vietnam and the Civil Rights era struggles and all this other. So
- 50:58there's been strife in America. But I don't know that we've ever been at
- 51:02a place in this country where you know, I read a lot I watch
- 51:08a lot. I have a lot of guests on the show, listen to
- 51:09what my listeners have to say. And we're at a place in this country
- 51:14right now where I have heard within the last twelve hour, twenty four hours,
- 51:19I have heard both sides say that if phil in blank name is elected
- 51:24to president, we're doomed as a society. I heard that about Donald Trump.
- 51:30If Donald Trump is re elected to the presidency, our country is done.
- 51:35I've heard that about Joe Biden. If Joe Biden president, Joe Biden
- 51:38is re elected, our republic, this grand experiment of ours is all over.
- 51:45And both sides say that, and they say it with a lot of
- 51:46force, and they say it with a and they believe wholeheartedly what they say.
- 51:52I will, I will say this, and I have my opinions on
- 51:57both Joe Biden and on former President Donald Trump, and you know that I
- 52:01have made them perfectly clear. I hope we're not at a at a place
- 52:06we're in all seriousness that the election of one of those two guys is really
- 52:10going to be the downfall of America. And what's going to be the downfall
- 52:15of America is not the guy in the White House What's going to be the
- 52:19downfall of America is the American people if we choose to let it go.
- 52:23This has been a grand experiment. Let's see do our best to see if
- 52:28we can keep it going. All right, Dave Wilson coming up with talk
- 52:31line at ten oh six. I'm out the door. My producer Antoine Woods,
- 52:35thank you so much. I'm off tomorrow and Friday and joining Independence Day
- 52:38and stuff. Be back Monday morning. Till that, have fun and love
- 52:43somebody and enjoy the ring. Gatta go and see at Sam ninety six point
