- 0:03Speaker 1: Who black Cap Podcast man special guests in here og
- 0:07Speaker 1: wild Child you already know y'all might know him as
- 0:09Speaker 1: a part of the legendary Loop. Pat just dropped your
- 0:12Speaker 1: new album, Child of a Kingsman August, Yeah, August twenty second. Man,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and you've been running around all year? When did the
- 0:20Speaker 1: tour end with Murders Overseas?
- 0:22Speaker 2: We ended like first week of December? Oh after a
- 0:27Speaker 2: month long? Guess got back? Yeah? Man, just got back.
- 0:30Speaker 2: A whole month was out there? Man? What is like?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Because I feel like, for whatever reason, like I feel
- 0:34Speaker 1: like overseas they appreciate like real hip hop monk since.
- 0:37Speaker 2: That you know what I think? When you see things
- 0:43Speaker 2: from Afar and you don't get it, you don't get
- 0:46Speaker 2: a lot of it thrown at you. I think the
- 0:48Speaker 2: level of appreciation is there, to be honest, all the
- 0:52Speaker 2: years I've ever toured, I always keep hearing people say
- 0:55Speaker 2: their appreciation is still there.
- 0:57Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like they don't take they
- 0:59Speaker 1: never take it for right. I think that's I think
- 1:02Speaker 1: right here?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty much. Well it all pulled. It all
- 1:04Speaker 2: boils down.
- 1:05Speaker 1: To what is like the coolest city? Do you think
- 1:08Speaker 1: you guys went to over there in terms of just
- 1:10Speaker 1: like reaction and crowd.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Portugal Lisbon, Yeah, Lisbon in Portugal. Yeah, that was like because,
- 1:18Speaker 2: to be honest, that was my first time mad lib
- 1:21Speaker 2: Rome's as a louppac. We never played out there. We've
- 1:24Speaker 2: played places that were near where people would travel from
- 1:27Speaker 2: Portugal to come there. So when we happened to land
- 1:30Speaker 2: there this time, I had people coming up saying, twenty
- 1:33Speaker 2: some years ago I flew or went over to this
- 1:37Speaker 2: area to go see you guys. So to see you
- 1:38Speaker 2: in my home city is like bananas, And that was
- 1:41Speaker 2: like probably the most welcomed area that we went to.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I wonder for you, Like, uh, there's there was like
- 1:47Speaker 1: a such an incredible La Southern California like underground movement
- 1:55Speaker 1: in the nineties and like early two thousands you got
- 1:58Speaker 1: you guys, Dilate J five shit, Calie Agents, shouts to
- 2:05Speaker 1: Roscoe and Planet Asia and there's just so much incredible,
- 2:08Speaker 1: like you know, just dope underground shit going on in LA.
- 2:13Speaker 1: It was almost like this whole other world out here,
- 2:15Speaker 1: like you everyone else here's about gangs, the rap, but
- 2:17Speaker 1: there was this other thing going on in LA. What
- 2:20Speaker 1: was that era? Like, man, you know.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It was just inspiring because we just loved music. I
- 2:27Speaker 2: got Roams, who's like the vinyl collector of music, mad Lib,
- 2:31Speaker 2: who's always digging for records and jazz and educating me
- 2:34Speaker 2: on that and funk. Then I also have my uncles
- 2:38Speaker 2: who always educated. One was like a bee boy, the
- 2:41Speaker 2: other was like a record collector, which a lot of
- 2:43Speaker 2: people don't know. He was trading records with Madly before
- 2:46Speaker 2: I even met Mahadlib, which is funny. But that vibe
- 2:50Speaker 2: that era was just dope because I remember when every
- 2:54Speaker 2: time a release would come out, we would always be like, Okay,
- 2:58Speaker 2: we know this album is dropping, mad if you be
- 3:00Speaker 2: the one to buy the album, and we all just
- 3:02Speaker 2: sit and vibe it.
- 3:03Speaker 1: That's how it used to be. People don't understand, like.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, we're like who's who, Yeah, who's bye. We used
- 3:08Speaker 2: to literally flip, you know, head rock paper says all right, boom,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and what we would do is we would take that
- 3:13Speaker 2: album and use it as our daily soundtrack to wherever
- 3:18Speaker 2: we're driving at the time. We used to dance on
- 3:20Speaker 2: Soul Trade, so we would roll up to Soul Train
- 3:23Speaker 2: listening to that, or we'd be rolling out to Santa Barbara,
- 3:26Speaker 2: which is where we used to you know, live at
- 3:28Speaker 2: the radio station there, and all we would do is
- 3:30Speaker 2: either play a new release Madams B tape or Far
- 3:35Speaker 2: Side Freestyle Fellowship on repeat. Yeah, you know, but every
- 3:39Speaker 2: time there was always something dope we noticed about each album.
- 3:43Speaker 2: We studied the lyrics, studied the beats, who's producing what,
- 3:47Speaker 2: who's featured on what, and it was just inspiration. You know.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I worked at a record store at the time too,
- 3:52Speaker 2: so it was like in Ox Start, that's where the Licks.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That's how I met the Licks. They came in and
- 4:00Speaker 2: me and now they came in. They actually came in
- 4:03Speaker 2: to look at their first single with King t got
- 4:06Speaker 2: a bad y'all. Yeah, a lot of people don't know.
- 4:09Speaker 2: They came to peep out what was there. And I
- 4:11Speaker 2: didn't really talk that much. I said like the worst
- 4:13Speaker 2: things you could ever say. But instead of playing the
- 4:15Speaker 2: music that I was supposed to play in the store,
- 4:17Speaker 2: I was playing the CDP demo, the lou Packed demo,
- 4:22Speaker 2: And that was pretty much how we the Loupack and
- 4:25Speaker 2: the Licks made the connection, ended up the end up
- 4:28Speaker 2: on the album and turned the party out with on
- 4:31Speaker 2: the twenty one and over. That's how we linked that
- 4:32Speaker 2: with them. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it was like a
- 4:35Speaker 2: weird you know, progress at that point. But there was
- 4:38Speaker 2: just so much inspiration going on, different people doing stuff,
- 4:40Speaker 2: or there was rumbles of new people coming out the licks,
- 4:44Speaker 2: which that was the first time we're hearing the the
- 4:46Speaker 2: name the alcoholics Wu Tang when no one even knew
- 4:49Speaker 2: who Wu Tang was. Yeah, the far I mad Cap
- 4:53Speaker 2: and all that stuff. But it was inspiration, like I said,
- 4:57Speaker 2: And and I would still myself go to a lot
- 5:00Speaker 2: of B boy events, so I was heavily engulfed in
- 5:03Speaker 2: the dance at that same time too.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Hey, we gotta stop the interview to tell you about
- 5:06Speaker 1: our good folks. Odd Socks, man. Now, these are the
- 5:09Speaker 1: odd Socks basics, ladies and gentlemen. Now when I tell
- 5:12Speaker 1: you this is a product that every single day I'm
- 5:16Speaker 1: alive for the last five six years I have used
- 5:21Speaker 1: are these odd Socks basics. Now, what odd Socks is
- 5:23Speaker 1: doing is they're kind of reinventing the sock game, if
- 5:26Speaker 1: we're being honest, and the underwear game. You know, a
- 5:28Speaker 1: lot of times you'll hit Walmart, you'll hit Target, you'll
- 5:30Speaker 1: get some socks, you get some draws, they're affordable, they
- 5:33Speaker 1: end up with holes in them, they don't really feel great.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Not odd Socks, Ladies and gentlemen. These odd Socks basics
- 5:40Speaker 1: are the most comfortable socks I've ever had on my feet.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Not only that, but you're super affordable. Fourteen ninety nine
- 5:47Speaker 1: for a six pack. That's it odd socks dot Com.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And if you don't believe me, sock check full. Wait
- 5:57Speaker 1: that's the ex is on the other side.
- 5:59Speaker 2: There we go.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Ah, you see that. Sorry you had to see those
- 6:04Speaker 1: white lakes. But it's so dope that you know, I
- 6:08Speaker 1: get to push a product that I use and that
- 6:09Speaker 1: I love, so odd Socks they got the six pack
- 6:13Speaker 1: of socks for fourteen ninety nine a odd socks dot
- 6:15Speaker 1: com the basics. This is the future of socks, the
- 6:19Speaker 1: future of underwear comfort and affordability. I'm talking about affordability
- 6:24Speaker 1: without jeopardizing the quality because they are the most comfortable
- 6:27Speaker 1: socks you ever put on your feet. Ladies and gents
- 6:30Speaker 1: and the ETCeteras. Got to show love to the ETCeteras.
- 6:32Speaker 1: We like all the stripes on the flag. There are
- 6:35Speaker 1: odd Socks dot Com. Man, much love to my brothers
- 6:37Speaker 1: over there. Make sure you get some right now odd
- 6:39Speaker 1: socks dot Com. Let's get back to the interview. What
- 6:42Speaker 1: was uh being around Doom? Like, Oh, that was bananas because, uh,
- 6:48Speaker 1: you're in mad Villainy, which is yeah, some people would
- 6:51Speaker 1: consider it like a top ten some people got to
- 6:54Speaker 1: hire than that. Like depending on who you ask, it's
- 6:57Speaker 1: like one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I think it is, but you're on that. So that
- 7:01Speaker 1: was a crazy pocket of Like obviously fast forward a bit,
- 7:05Speaker 1: but what was it like working with dooman kind of
- 7:08Speaker 1: being around during the creation of that body of work?
- 7:11Speaker 2: Man, I was a fan and I'm still a fan
- 7:13Speaker 2: Recipees Doom respect to his family. It was just crazy
- 7:16Speaker 2: because like when I got that bat signal from mad
- 7:19Speaker 2: Lib to come through, I was really busy with my son,
- 7:23Speaker 2: who was an acting or attempting to get into acting
- 7:26Speaker 2: at that time. So it was one of those things
- 7:28Speaker 2: where like now, if you call someone, y'all want to
- 7:30Speaker 2: do a song, right, and if you say, oh, I'm
- 7:32Speaker 2: busy this week, maybe we could do next week. Maybe.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Back then, it was like you get that car, You're like,
- 7:36Speaker 2: all right, I'm there. I'll be there for forty five minutes.
- 7:39Speaker 2: But when when we're doing what was dope is. I
- 7:42Speaker 2: remember before we even got to the concept of the joint,
- 7:46Speaker 2: we went out to just to celebrate and I was
- 7:49Speaker 2: doing I think I was doing a solo documentary at
- 7:53Speaker 2: the time, the Wilden You where he gave me a
- 7:55Speaker 2: shot out on there and we started talking about the song.
- 7:58Speaker 2: But he was like, ya, I just want to go
- 7:59Speaker 2: out and hang out to celebrate. I'm not really the
- 8:01Speaker 2: avid drinker. I wasn't really clubbing like that. But we
- 8:04Speaker 2: went to go cool out with Doom. So we go
- 8:07Speaker 2: to this club and I remember I'm with mad libing Doom.
- 8:11Speaker 2: But what tripped me out was while everyone's in the
- 8:16Speaker 2: club that are normally naturally used to seeing Loupac be
- 8:20Speaker 2: there and greet us or whatnot, I see other people
- 8:24Speaker 2: like a Charlie Tuna. I think I see my brother
- 8:28Speaker 2: Jay from X Clan, and people coming up talking about
- 8:33Speaker 2: the lou Pac and this and this and that and
- 8:35Speaker 2: times just going on. And the whole time Doom's standing
- 8:38Speaker 2: like right next to me without a mask on, and
- 8:40Speaker 2: no one's even recognizing them, Like Clark Kent, you know
- 8:44Speaker 2: that no one even recognized. So that was the only
- 8:45Speaker 2: thing that was going through my mind. Mad It was
- 8:47Speaker 2: probably normal for mad Lib for them to be like that,
- 8:50Speaker 2: but for me, I was just sitting there like, Okay,
- 8:51Speaker 2: this is bananas and.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You knew you knew it was him?
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I knew it was him, But like I said,
- 8:57Speaker 2: I just never that was the first time being the
- 9:00Speaker 2: outside world.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You know, he didn't have the mask on, where he
- 9:02Speaker 1: didn't have the mask on. Yeah, Loki, I was like
- 9:04Speaker 1: his disguise.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it, man, but it was just dope.
- 9:10Speaker 2: We did the joint and I think there's like an
- 9:12Speaker 2: original because what I think made the album was an
- 9:15Speaker 2: altered version which they took his vocals and threw it
- 9:17Speaker 2: on another joint. And that's how I still ended up.
- 9:20Speaker 2: God blessed staying on the album and then going from
- 9:24Speaker 2: that to even performing the joint during I think Coachella
- 9:28Speaker 2: was the first time my daughter was with me, so
- 9:31Speaker 2: that was her first time meeting him. But what's even
- 9:33Speaker 2: crazy is I never told my son, who was born later,
- 9:39Speaker 2: and it just let me know how much this music
- 9:42Speaker 2: transcends time. Because my son's about to be twenty one now,
- 9:45Speaker 2: and I remember when he was about to be twenty nineteen.
- 9:49Speaker 2: He yells up out of nowhere, like he almost cussed
- 9:52Speaker 2: me out, which is funny. And I go into his room,
- 9:54Speaker 2: like what's wrong, and he's like, how could you not
- 9:56Speaker 2: tell me? You know you on the Math Villain record?
- 9:58Speaker 2: And I'm like, why would you even be know about
- 10:00Speaker 2: that record? Why would we even be having this conversation.
- 10:03Speaker 1: About that pocket Because my kid's nineteen and him and
- 10:07Speaker 1: all his friends love MF Doom.
- 10:08Speaker 2: See that's proceeded.
- 10:10Speaker 1: That's that's crazy.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It's beyond crazy.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Like I try to put them on nas and they
- 10:14Speaker 1: don't want to hear. They're just ye doom. Yeah, like
- 10:16Speaker 1: they don't they don't care about imatic, they don't care
- 10:17Speaker 1: about thirty six. They want m F Doom.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Dude. I took my son to a dance event that
- 10:22Speaker 2: we used to go to annually. He's about five years old.
- 10:25Speaker 2: In Paris. We go to the event. The promoter say, hey,
- 10:29Speaker 2: now that you have your sign here, we're good. We
- 10:31Speaker 2: got a day off. You want to go to this concert?
- 10:33Speaker 2: I heard your boy is in town? Really? Who the
- 10:36Speaker 2: math Doom? Oh? Snap? So you know we get the
- 10:40Speaker 2: people calling our people their people. We get up in there,
- 10:43Speaker 2: but I'm like, wait, I got my cell with me,
- 10:44Speaker 2: is there any way that I could get him in
- 10:47Speaker 2: because of the age. They ended up letting him in
- 10:50Speaker 2: and that ended up being his first rap concert. I
- 10:53Speaker 2: took him to plenty concerts before, but they've always been
- 10:56Speaker 2: fucking soul and all that. But that was his first concert.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Was rap concer was MF. Doom and he's b boying
- 11:02Speaker 2: and dancing in the back, not listening obviously to the lyrics.
- 11:05Speaker 2: But all he ever told me was one day, I
- 11:08Speaker 2: want that mask. So I ended up getting him the mask,
- 11:10Speaker 2: and twenty years later he's getting mad at me that
- 11:13Speaker 2: I didn't tell him that the Mad Villain Project even
- 11:16Speaker 2: happened and stuff. But I just wish Doom was alive
- 11:18Speaker 2: to see that, cause there's there's been so many instances.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Case in point, I went to Coachella, saw this kid
- 11:26Speaker 2: walking around all the thousands of masks he could wear,
- 11:29Speaker 2: He's wearing an MF. Do mask. I'm like, yo, come here, man,
- 11:33Speaker 2: what's up with that mask? What made you wear that?
- 11:35Speaker 2: How old are you? Oh? I'm like sixteen? Oh, man,
- 11:38Speaker 2: come here real quick. So I pulled my camera. I
- 11:40Speaker 2: didn't even say anything. I didn't explain who I was
- 11:42Speaker 2: or nothing, and I'm like, yo, man, and I start recording, Yo,
- 11:46Speaker 2: what's up your mad Lib? I need you to see
- 11:49Speaker 2: this right now. This boy is sixteen years old. Boom
- 11:51Speaker 2: boom boom, and he starts naming all this stuff. But
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think it went over his head who I said
- 11:56Speaker 2: at the beginning, and he was like, wait, you're sending
- 11:58Speaker 2: this to mad Lip. He starts crying, Yeah, sixteen years old,
- 12:02Speaker 2: naming all the lyrics, naming all the songs. So it's
- 12:04Speaker 2: just stuff like that that imagine if Doom was alive
- 12:07Speaker 2: and he was able to see stuff like that. So
- 12:08Speaker 2: I appreciate that from you know.
- 12:11Speaker 1: When did you realize like Madly was a genius?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Oh man, when mad It was a genius? I probably
- 12:18Speaker 2: would say, yeah, that's a good question. I think it
- 12:23Speaker 2: was when we used to as a crew, our CDP
- 12:28Speaker 2: crew and stuff, when we would record records. Most people
- 12:33Speaker 2: when they record demos, they end up being labeled as
- 12:36Speaker 2: demos or whatever. When Madli would do it, he was
- 12:39Speaker 2: doing it as practice for all of us as MC's right.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So he was almost like our eight oh five Oxnard
- 12:46Speaker 2: version of Rizard, and he had a vision. He wasn't
- 12:50Speaker 2: really telling us. He would just be like, I need
- 12:51Speaker 2: to join this, jump on this. Me med jump on this.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Oh no, I need to join this. You know, Kazi,
- 12:56Speaker 2: let me have you do this, do the album. But
- 12:58Speaker 2: he wouldn't tell us what it was. When we all
- 13:01Speaker 2: get together and we're going out to a club or
- 13:02Speaker 2: a dance battle we're gonna go to, he's playing what
- 13:06Speaker 2: he had put together and it literally sounded like a
- 13:09Speaker 2: full on album. He would do that almost every other week.
- 13:13Speaker 2: That's when I knew, But I wasn't really grasping because
- 13:17Speaker 2: it was like fun for us. We never knew because
- 13:20Speaker 2: we weren't looking at the future where we would go.
- 13:22Speaker 2: So I just realized when he was doing in real
- 13:24Speaker 2: time it was just dope.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, almost like every time you guys would get in
- 13:27Speaker 1: a car and be like, oh shit, you took all that.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's exactly That's exactly what he would do.
- 13:32Speaker 2: But it was just it was like he was showing
- 13:34Speaker 2: off how he could produce somebody's record, right. He was
- 13:38Speaker 2: literally from the You know, he might not have the
- 13:40Speaker 2: best mixes, but the rawness is what made it dope,
- 13:44Speaker 2: to be honest. The fact that wasn't mixed made it
- 13:47Speaker 2: even that much dope. So when we heard mad Villain,
- 13:49Speaker 2: it wasn't a surprise. It was like, Okay, we know
- 13:52Speaker 2: he's been doing stuff like this, chopping up vocals, taking it,
- 13:55Speaker 2: flipping it, making the beats in the pocket. He was
- 13:58Speaker 2: always been doing stuff like that. And he's just multi.
- 14:02Speaker 2: He's well rounded in the music listening. You know, his
- 14:06Speaker 2: uncle was John Fattis, famous jazz players. Pops was a singer,
- 14:11Speaker 2: so it was it was inevitable that he would do
- 14:13Speaker 2: what he would, you know, end up becoming what he is.
- 14:16Speaker 1: You know, hey, we gotta wrap up this interview, another
- 14:18Speaker 1: one presented by Hardean. Baby, you already know what it is.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Shout out to Hardeen for presenting another episode of the
- 14:24Speaker 1: bootle Like podcast. Don't forget when you're in Vegas, you're
- 14:26Speaker 1: getting that tax, you getting that uber Say take me
- 14:28Speaker 1: to Hardean the number one cannabis dispensary in the world.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Premium selection of the craziest gas you could ever ask for,
- 14:36Speaker 1: and then they break down all what all the turps mean.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It's incredible. Go to Hardan Underscore Las Vegas. Shoot him
- 14:41Speaker 1: a follow and when you're in Las Vegas and make
- 14:43Speaker 1: sure you shoot them a visit. Do you get like
- 14:46Speaker 1: are you privy to hearing any of these? You know,
- 14:49Speaker 1: projects that we always hear exist, but I'm not sure
- 14:52Speaker 1: wherever we'll get. Like there's like the Mad Live Mac Miller. Shit,
- 14:55Speaker 1: there's supposedly a Kanye Is it Kanye in mad or
- 15:00Speaker 1: is it Kendrick and mad Lib? I know there's a
- 15:03Speaker 1: lot of music that we always hear, like, oh, Mad
- 15:06Speaker 1: Live did a whole album with so and so. Yeah,
- 15:08Speaker 1: but then and then I know he's going through with
- 15:11Speaker 1: his ex management and all that. Yeah, Like do you
- 15:13Speaker 1: get to hear any of this stuff?
- 15:15Speaker 2: I've heard some stuff through the rumbles, you know, like
- 15:17Speaker 2: when we would travel he plays something, or if he
- 15:19Speaker 2: was DJing when we're overseas, he would throw you know,
- 15:22Speaker 2: he'll play it so spontaneous without a warning, you know,
- 15:26Speaker 2: and and I'll just be sitting there and I'm a fan,
- 15:29Speaker 2: so I'll be sitting there, you know, hyping the crowd
- 15:31Speaker 2: up form or whatever, and I'll catch myself on the
- 15:34Speaker 2: mic like wait, hold up, what the hell is that?
- 15:36Speaker 2: What you know? And it'll be something yeah that's not
- 15:40Speaker 2: even out, you know what I'm saying. Like case in point,
- 15:42Speaker 2: I remember him playing something with Black Dot and it
- 15:45Speaker 2: was just like YO, and then mac miller, you know, and.
- 15:48Speaker 1: It's just dope and black black thought and mc miller together. No,
- 15:52Speaker 1: it was separate, separate joints.
- 15:54Speaker 2: And then it'll be funny because it'll be we get
- 15:56Speaker 2: back in the car and we're headed to the hotel. Yo.
- 15:58Speaker 2: That point you play what's that, He'll be like like, oh, no,
- 16:00Speaker 2: don't worry about it. Don't worry about that. You know
- 16:03Speaker 2: what I'm saying. So it's just dope because he has
- 16:05Speaker 2: that as a disposed as his disposal. But and and shoot,
- 16:08Speaker 2: there was time I remember one time he was playing joints.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Crowd was bananas and he had it on the CD
- 16:14Speaker 2: and me and metaphor was tripping because he had the
- 16:16Speaker 2: CD and he took the CD and threw it at
- 16:19Speaker 2: the crowd.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Oh, he threw it.
- 16:21Speaker 2: At the crowd. So anybody in the crowd would have
- 16:23Speaker 2: just dove and oh what, not realizing what they got.
- 16:26Speaker 2: What he's throwing. That's like having for us or DJ's
- 16:30Speaker 2: a white label of something you just got, sure and
- 16:32Speaker 2: throw the white label out. But he threw it at
- 16:34Speaker 2: the crowd. But it didn't go so well because he
- 16:36Speaker 2: threw it and then it hit the barricade of the
- 16:38Speaker 2: crowd and the barricade so the crowd never got access
- 16:41Speaker 2: to it. I'm like, what was you doing? He's like, Nah,
- 16:43Speaker 2: I was just in the moment and just for the people.
- 16:45Speaker 2: If they like it, they like it. And then but
- 16:47Speaker 2: see someone like the way what's Zebra Matt, He'll do
- 16:49Speaker 2: be like it don't matter. By the time it comes out,
- 16:52Speaker 2: it'll be a different version, alredmix it or do something different.
- 16:55Speaker 1: But if you have the CD, you're like, I got.
- 16:57Speaker 2: To yeah, you know, that's just him. He's always spontaneous.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I think the one thing that stands out with Malib
- 17:03Speaker 2: that makes it was an imprint on all of us
- 17:06Speaker 2: is he was always like, we'll do the music for
- 17:09Speaker 2: us to make us happy. If the people like it,
- 17:12Speaker 2: hopefully they like it. If they don't, so be it.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Do you guys feel like coming up in the eight
- 17:16Speaker 1: oh five, like you guys kind of just automatically have
- 17:20Speaker 1: a bit of a chip on your shoulder, because nah,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I feel like Oxnard Ventura like, and we don't really
- 17:25Speaker 1: like I feel like we don't associate that with LA
- 17:28Speaker 1: I know, but if you're if you're not from LA,
- 17:30Speaker 1: you just think it's all right.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Now, you know what, We just had an appreciation of music.
- 17:35Speaker 2: We we understood who the Mount rushmore of the West
- 17:39Speaker 2: Coast was and the East Coast, and we were fans
- 17:42Speaker 2: still learning, still growing, wishing to collaborate and work with
- 17:46Speaker 2: and get the respect from our peers, and but we
- 17:48Speaker 2: also wanted to show that we got we got that
- 17:51Speaker 2: energy as well to compete and with the best of them,
- 17:53Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So it's just like playing basketball.
- 17:56Speaker 2: You come from a city and you get on the
- 17:57Speaker 2: court and you find out all these other guys and
- 18:00Speaker 2: what they came from. But you know, hey, give me
- 18:02Speaker 2: the rock. I know I can handle the two. And
- 18:04Speaker 2: that's pretty much what we ingrained ourself. And we never
- 18:06Speaker 2: had a chip on our shoulder somewhere. We just we
- 18:09Speaker 2: just know that from Oxnard, there's not a lot of
- 18:11Speaker 2: artists that may or may not come out representing that.
- 18:14Speaker 2: So we always made it clear we might live in
- 18:17Speaker 2: LA or go to LA, but we're not from LA.
- 18:21Speaker 2: But it's just dope because I mean, obviously time has grown.
- 18:23Speaker 2: You see other actors come out and from there. Yeah, Yle, yeah, Kyle,
- 18:28Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. But it's just it's it's
- 18:32Speaker 2: just bananas.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Man beautiful area too. I feel like people like venture
- 18:37Speaker 1: is such a vibe. Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I was watching the Prices right one time and they're like,
- 18:41Speaker 2: you're gonna win a trip all expace trip expense paid
- 18:44Speaker 2: trip to Oxnar count for but most people know it
- 18:47Speaker 2: just for like the calip the Robberry Festival.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean some people know. I mean, thankfully,
- 18:54Speaker 2: Like I said, with Anderson Pack doing the album titling
- 18:58Speaker 2: that Oxnard that did put Now when we say where
- 19:00Speaker 2: are you from, we say.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Oxtend speak there in Mambo Mambo out there.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah that's the fan. That's the fan praying for Mambo
- 19:07Speaker 2: right now in this time what he's going through. But yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 2: but yeah, that's pretty much what we always wanted to do,
- 19:12Speaker 2: is put any stamp we could on ox Start and
- 19:16Speaker 2: let them know cats can do stuff on a on
- 19:19Speaker 2: an art level, whether it be music, dance, acting, like
- 19:23Speaker 2: like in case, I point my son. A lot of
- 19:24Speaker 2: people don't know my son Miles is from the show
- 19:26Speaker 2: Blackish and and even what he's doing inspiring other kids
- 19:31Speaker 2: around the world, and a lot of these kids see
- 19:34Speaker 2: that and they're thinking, all we thought we had to
- 19:37Speaker 2: be part of the Los Angeles Hollywood audience or proud
- 19:42Speaker 2: to make it and so just that inspiration is just the.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Was he growing up in. Yeah, so you guys are
- 19:49Speaker 1: just come out here for auditions.
- 19:50Speaker 2: We would come out to auditions, dance events and that
- 19:54Speaker 2: was it. We drove back and forth so many times.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's ridiculous, Like it's.
- 19:57Speaker 1: A hard grind man that act. I feel like the
- 19:58Speaker 1: acting game, Like do you feel like I mean, obviously
- 20:00Speaker 1: you're close to it because your son, like m is
- 20:03Speaker 1: the AI thing taken away because I think eventually there's
- 20:08Speaker 1: not going to be extras and some of these like
- 20:10Speaker 1: background parts are just not going to exist.
- 20:13Speaker 2: It's it's it's pretty scary. I don't know where it's
- 20:16Speaker 2: gonna go. AI. I just feel like I just feel
- 20:19Speaker 2: like sometimes technology might be to ahead of control, which
- 20:24Speaker 2: I don't know if it's meant to be controlled, because
- 20:26Speaker 2: it's like when it's almost reminded me of hip hop.
- 20:29Speaker 2: It just shrum you know, when no one knew it
- 20:32Speaker 2: was going to go the way it went. Here comes AI.
- 20:35Speaker 2: No one knows where it's going to go. Everyone's on
- 20:37Speaker 2: the fearful side. You know. Now you're seeing producers being
- 20:41Speaker 2: rumored to be using AI to benefit them.
- 20:43Speaker 1: So in the act, Yeah, yeah, I was talking to
- 20:45Speaker 1: my boy and he was like, uh, who were just
- 20:48Speaker 1: talking to the city were using AI for sampling? Thursday,
- 20:53Speaker 1: that's right, Thursday. Yeah. He was saying that when it
- 20:57Speaker 1: came when it comes to certain things like if they
- 21:00Speaker 1: want some vocal samples or something, yes, they'll they could
- 21:05Speaker 1: create it through this app, chop it right, and then
- 21:08Speaker 1: they don't have to worry about getting cleared because they're likeyo,
- 21:10Speaker 1: we're independent. So like clearing like going to reata Franklin
- 21:13Speaker 1: sample or some ship like that, it's tough exactly. So
- 21:16Speaker 1: it's like if I can get a sample to sound
- 21:18Speaker 1: exactly how I want it, and then and I'm still
- 21:20Speaker 1: chopping it, I'm still it's kind of like a new
- 21:23Speaker 1: version of digging. Right, I respect that way, see that,
- 21:26Speaker 1: because that's that's it while still being right. You know,
- 21:30Speaker 1: great artists and created.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And see that part right there is the key. But
- 21:33Speaker 2: see some people take advantage of it, become lazy and
- 21:36Speaker 2: then now.
- 21:36Speaker 1: You can take a whole beat.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Like it's like it's like what Prince said, what
- 21:41Speaker 2: do you say, what do you say? Use the computer?
- 21:45Speaker 2: Don't let the computer you get same ship. Yeah, and
- 21:47Speaker 2: you can flip it in the way you can. And
- 21:49Speaker 2: I remember even with the executioners when they were talking
- 21:52Speaker 2: about that level of vinyl to Serrado, how they at
- 21:58Speaker 2: one time didn't like it, but feel like if you
- 22:01Speaker 2: control it and you could flip it in a way
- 22:03Speaker 2: that is beneficial but still be creative and don't lose
- 22:07Speaker 2: the input of the talent that you got, then that's
- 22:10Speaker 2: dope because you're using it as a tool. But when
- 22:12Speaker 2: some people rely on it and now, like AI, it's
- 22:14Speaker 2: taken over people who put their heart, blood and soul
- 22:18Speaker 2: in something, it's a different thing. And that's the thing.
- 22:20Speaker 2: It's like, literally, it's almost reminds me of hip hop.
- 22:23Speaker 2: They wanted hip hop to be like this, but it
- 22:25Speaker 2: blew up to what it is now. And things can
- 22:29Speaker 2: be controlled to a certain degree, to a certain degree,
- 22:32Speaker 2: so it's like, how do you argue that point. Something
- 22:34Speaker 2: that's helping us move forward but it's not controlled. Is
- 22:38Speaker 2: that a good thing or a bad thing?
- 22:39Speaker 1: Right?
- 22:40Speaker 2: You know?
- 22:40Speaker 1: So listen, your album is out, Yes, sir go support it?
- 22:45Speaker 1: Will you guys ever do another loop pack project?
- 22:47Speaker 2: Do you think you know? This crazy thing is man?
- 22:50Speaker 2: Malid don't rap anymore. That's a lot of people don't
- 22:51Speaker 2: know if he stopped rapping, and they forget that. So
- 22:54Speaker 2: we can't really do a loop packed project. It would
- 22:57Speaker 2: be more or less obviously a full wild tied exactly,
- 23:01Speaker 2: especially with Rome's involved. Crazy thing is case in point
- 23:05Speaker 2: New Year's twenty twenty five. He sent me after what
- 23:09Speaker 2: thirty years of us not really talking about it, but
- 23:12Speaker 2: whenever it was gonna happen, and what happened. He sends
- 23:14Speaker 2: me the first beat and I wake up New Year's
- 23:18Speaker 2: Day this year, Oh snaps, that's what I think it is.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Let's roll. Because he was with me during the whole
- 23:24Speaker 2: process of working on the Child of a Kinsman. So
- 23:27Speaker 2: he was like, all right, I'll refrain from joining this
- 23:30Speaker 2: project and let's get going on a new one. Whenever
- 23:33Speaker 2: it is. I'm like, cool, whenever you Because he got
- 23:35Speaker 2: so much things he's juggling, I get it. Get the beat.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Five days later, his houseprinds down.
- 23:41Speaker 1: He said, a rough year.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 2: So when that happened, I was just like, what is
- 23:45Speaker 2: God saying here? So he knows I'm always here for him.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Music ain't going to change, and that's my best. That's
- 23:50Speaker 2: my bro right there. So when it happens, it happens,
- 23:53Speaker 2: and God willing, he gets back on his feet and
- 23:56Speaker 2: then we can give the fans what they want.
- 23:58Speaker 1: There it is will look, we're going to have this
- 23:59Speaker 1: dude wrap on another YouTube video freestyle coming up, wild Child.
- 24:04Speaker 1: The album is out go support. We can be hitting
- 24:07Speaker 1: the road anytime soon or do you kind of resting.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Rumbling on some things that are coming up for twenty
- 24:12Speaker 2: six It's hard to really speak on it now, but
- 24:15Speaker 2: I know that fans are going to be definitely excited
- 24:17Speaker 2: to see. But we're gonna be represented soon. Just got
- 24:20Speaker 2: linked up to do the Blue Note Lai.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Yeah, the Blue Note has been putting some dope shows together.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Man, so like I don't even like I like see
- 24:29Speaker 1: I'm like wait a minute, yep. Terres Martin's at the
- 24:32Speaker 1: Blue Note, yeah man, or like Killer Mike.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Or yeah, you never know. That spot is dope. Shout
- 24:37Speaker 2: out to Robert Glasper helping making it happen. But the Multiverse,
- 24:41Speaker 2: which is what I call it, will be coming to
- 24:43Speaker 2: the Blue Note soon.
- 24:43Speaker 1: There it is good ship, wild Child. Appreciate you, Brotter,
- 24:46Speaker 1: thank you man.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Appreciate you.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Boom assass
