- speaker-0: you Welcome to episode... 63! It's 63. speaker-1: Welcome to this week's episode. speaker-0: This week's episode. This week's episode. Episode 60... No, it's not 63, it's 64. Because 63 we did the recap. Yeah, because we were all too busy last week. We were nearly all too busy this week. But we've managed to it together. speaker-1: Well last week there was a whole thing. speaker-0: we really do need to get to that. Remember when we talked this time last year about recording an extra episode to just have it in the bank in case we need to do it? We really need to get that. Maybe we could do a couple of those episodes all together in January. speaker-1: Maybe maybe because I booked my flight. speaker-0: Here we go, here we go. total sidebar here. I hosted an American through my day job on site last week and that American is very keen to move to Scotland as well. speaker-1: Rude. It's rude. speaker-0: Who wouldn't be? speaker-1: no what I so I actually forgot we were recording tonight. and one of my bosses invited me out for drinks with some of his friends and one of them is a lawyer in London and I like, Can you ask him if he's a job opening for me? which is probably not the thing you should say to your boss but speaker-0: I think your boss is understanding though of the amount of time you spend here and it's just like you know if you need to go and get that out your system that's fine we'll take you back in five years. speaker-1: As if I'm coming back. speaker-0: Well he doesn't know that okay. speaker-1: Oi! Doff of that! speaker-0: So it was all of what would be 10 days ago, 2 weeks ago now that you attended our favourite Comic Con. The New York City Comic Con NYCCC. And you attended all 4 days this year. speaker-1: I did. For the first time in a long time. Pretty told them. speaker-0: Yeah, it's definitely. So tell me about it. Tell me about your experiences. I know one of the things we'll end up talking about at some point is Dungeon Crawler Carl. speaker-1: my god, we need to talk about that. speaker-0: Yep, but let's go. You tell me, you talk me through your Comic Con experience this year. speaker-1: So you know me, I love a panel. So I did speaker-0: That's why we go. speaker-1: Right. I know. I love a panel. We love a panel. I don't understand the people who go to Comic Con and aren't about the panels. so sorry, little work thing. so Saturday, the very first panel I did was a not reserved panel. It was a Brooklyn nine nine recap. And it was in one of the small rooms in the new section that you haven't been to yet. speaker-0: section that was forever being built when we went. speaker-1: Yeah. and honestly it's great. It it's really good. the only thing is like they obviously don't clear those rooms. They're a lot smaller than you know, the the res reservation panel rooms. but and actually the one I did I had standing room only. and I think I don't think I've ever stood at a panel before. 'Cause the nice thing is that you get to sit and take a load off. but it was the Brooklyn nine nine panel. Did I say that already? Who knows? and so it was Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero, Joe, I forget his name. Yeah. Yeah. speaker-0: Famiglia or something like that. speaker-1: And then the showrunner. it was great. It was just them talking about like the memories. Like there was no moderator. They were all kind of there was a moderator, but they don't like he was barely moderating. They were all kind of just like talking and asking each other questions, and it was great. And one of the things that stood out was when Stephanie Beatriz was talking about Rosa's coming out story. And she actually got really emotional talking about it, about how great it was that the writers gave them the space to kind of r s write what they wanted to say. So it's a room full of white male writers allowing these people of color who are who and she is queer to be able to kind of write how the things that she wanted to say. and be able to like get that so it really was like an actual point of view. speaker-0: I love that with shows as well that live long enough that the writers and the cast, the cast and the characters become very similar. They allow them to have those. I always think of Ron Swanson in Parts of Recreation and he's just a grumpy boss in the first few seasons and then as he progresses he becomes Ron Swanson that we know and love but who's also Nick Hofferman. It becomes that whole thing. speaker-1: Same showrunner. speaker-0: Yeah, I was going to say it's the same. speaker-1: Yeah. So he as a I think he has a very special eye and I think he really understands people and the growth of people. Yeah. which even he said that. He goes, you know, everybody has a story. maybe you don't have a hundred and twenty stories, but you can't be the same person on the first story as you were on the last story. so I I I think it came across that way in Brooklyn nine nine. He also says that it has the most it's the most streamed show on Netflix. wow. Yeah. speaker-0: That's so is that since the office has left though? speaker-1: I don't know. speaker-0: Because there was a period of time there wasn't there where every year it was the office. It got taken speaker-1: General. speaker-0: off it got taken off American Netflix it's still on British Netflix. speaker-1: I don't like either of us. speaker-0: as offensive. speaker-1: Sorry. I find it funny. speaker-0: The podcast made it to episode 64 and that's where we ended it. speaker-1: I still like it. they all cried at various points, which I think we can all kind of understand. they really teared up talking about Andre, who plays Captain Holt. and they actually said that that's probably the biggest re they they they talked about maybe doing a reunion. I think Dan Gore was trying to gauge the crowd's reaction about it. but he even said like doing a reunion without Andre doesn't speaker-0: Doesn't it? Yeah, I get that too. speaker-1: Yeah. Which I get. Yeah. So I liked it. It was a cute little panel. It was a fun thing to do. I'm glad I got in. speaker-0: Yeah, I mean, so I think back, so I did some panels, I a mental health panel, I did a few other smaller panels. I love the panels in the side rooms because they tended to be there, like you said, standing room only, but then they probably only had 50 seats. So it was those smaller sort of ones. And then you had the mid-sized ones, which is where the comic book industry would really be, the DC, the Marvel comic books. And then you had the main rooms, which is where the TV stuff was. And occasionally the film stuff. Yeah. speaker-1: Well, speaking of, I went right from Brooklyn nine nine to Marvel Television. speaker-0: Marvel television. So you've seen episode one of Vision Quest? I have not seen episode one of Vision Quest. speaker-1: Well what do you mean you've both vision w episode one and episode two dropped last week? speaker-0: Yeah, I've not watched them. As in, I said I was gonna go back and watch Wanda and then I'm gonna watch Agatha and we've just not got there. We've been so into Ted Lasso. We're now currently, I think we're five episodes into Ted Lasso season four. speaker-1: So good. So good. speaker-0: So good. speaker-1: All right, so then I'll tell you. So they actually did that last. I and I'll jump ahead for a second. I didn't think I was hoping they were gonna premiere the first episode, but I wasn't sure if they would just because Marvel is so secretive. Yeah. but I'm so glad they did. Yeah. So good. but they actually didn't start off with television, they started off with the comics. So there's a new editor in chief in the comics, his name's Steven Wacker. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: and so he actually came out, he he, you know, said that which you might know, I didn't really know, I saw it kind of around the con. they just launched the Midnight Universe. Okay. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: and he basically said he said it's the superheroes you love, with a patina of horror. And like that might actually get me to read a con. speaker-0: gonna say bye to you. speaker-1: Me? Little old me. So maybe I'll be my first comic. Who knows? who knows? but that sounds it sounds very speaker-0: If only there was good comic book stores in New York City. speaker-1: just a few of them. Well actually there I I had been seeing because of that release there were these crazy lines from in from Midtown comics. Everyone wanted these so that it might actually speaker-0: It makes all the sense in the world now, I totally missed it but you're right, the comic book store that I go to had a midnight opening. speaker-1: Yeah. Yep. speaker-0: It now makes sense why there was a midnight opening, okay. Yep. Yep. I was like, I don't know the last time a comic book store needed a midnight opening but... Or the Midnight Universe. Universe, yeah. speaker-1: Spider Man number one thousand came out the week before Comic Con. Yeah. he also they're doing a new collaboration with WebTunes, which will be a whole digital library for comics. So that's something for comic book people it sounds like something that might be cool. speaker-0: know that they used to have the Marvel subscription service. speaker-1: So I think it's gonna that might be within the webtoons, kinda do that with webtoons. speaker-0: But there was definitely a digital subscription service. Because I was subscribed to it for a while and the frustration was it wasn't always there. You know, didn't always have. Yeah, Marvel Unlimited, is. It's got 30,000 digital comics available and a monthly plan is about $10 a month. $70 a year. speaker-1: It's not bad. speaker-0: Yeah, it's not bad. It's not. But yeah. So Marvel have a whole new universe. Almost like they've got a whole new movie universe about to come on. They're just trying to test the waters maybe a little bit, see where the fan base is. speaker-1: Yeah. And listen, we've spoken about the Venn diagram between comic book nerds and horror nerds. There is cr a lot of crossover. Yeah. so maybe I will check out Midnight Universe. speaker-0: Yeah, I I think I've just reached that age now where I've stopped buying weekly and I've just started going in and picking up the trade paperbacks. But it takes six issues and put them into one. So you get the whole story in one, not having to wait six months for an artist and a writer to finally get the finger up. speaker-1: Well maybe that's something they might have available for Christmas, which you can get your friend for Christmas who might be coming to celebrate Christmas with you. speaker-0: Don't think so. Any person I've got coming to visit me is Jewish so she doesn't celebrate Christmas? speaker-1: Father. speaker-0: that's why she flies to the UK every year. speaker-1: To spend Christmas with your kids. okay, so that was it. Like that they were and this is the thing, because again, I wasn't thinking about it, but everybody was really quick on this marble panel. And it was like an almost it was like an hour and a half long panel. So it's like it was kind of funny why they were kind of rushing people. but then I realized at the end it's because they wanted us to be able to watch the entire episode of Vision Quest. So then they announced, which I'm sure you've seen, everyone's seen, they've announced Marvel Zodiac. the only thing he said about it is that it's a spy thriller. It will be coming out in twenty twenty eight on Disney Plus, and they're gonna start casting in the next few weeks. So and if you saw the the the logo for it, the Zodiac, he said, I was blank on the guy's name, the guy's in charge of Marvel Television. He said that there is a lot of Easter eggs in there. I think the most obvious one which everyone is focusing on is the A does look like Agents of Shield. Yeah. So I I think it's definitely something's coming back. Somebody something, we'll see. speaker-0: Yeah, think, is it Agents of Shield or is it Shield? Or is it going to be something that follows on? know, remember we had the Peggy Carter series? Is it going to be something that fits? They've talked about a spy thriller. Are they going to throw us into like a 70s or 80s era? There's different things that they could play with, speaker-1: True. So it's the O that's getting me. I I defer to people who are nerdier than me to pick out that O. But looks good. I mean th there really's not much they could say about it because they really they haven't started production yet. Yeah. I also don't know if the he was planning on announcing it, but he made a comment about how it kinda got leaked the week before, so speaker-0: Yeah, it's definitely going to be... I don't know, there's a few mentions of Zodiac in the comic books. you know, I'm looking here, the orange in one of them is 1969, 1970. speaker-1: So maybe it'll be speaker-0: Maybe it will be that. speaker-1: and when does it change from SSA to SHIELD? speaker-0: Is that not doing Peggy Carter at some point though? speaker-1: Well I don't know because that Agent Carter is n is pre shield. So maybe. We'll see. speaker-0: Yeah. Maybe, The Shield Inn Ant-Man. The start of Ant-Man, where everybody's young. speaker-1: But speaker-0: At the start of Ant-Man, we get young Michael Douglas. Make sure there's shield at that point. speaker-1: the beginning maybe. But what's that? That seventies? speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: Wait, what were they when they went back in time and endgame? Was that Shield? speaker-0: I don't know. speaker-1: I don't remember. I don't remember. We'll figure it out. We'll find out. We'll find out in twenty twenty eight. speaker-0: Yeah, and we'll have to wait until, well, that's not right. It'll be mid-2027 by the time we figure out what it's likely to be based on casting. Are we getting shield? Is Paulson back? Mockingbirds? You know, all these different people. speaker-1: That'd be good. We've been talking about getting a mocking bird. speaker-0: it'd be great if we got Mockingbird but they also brought Hawkeye back. speaker-1: Yeah. Young mockingbird, young hawkeye, I love it. speaker-0: be all about that all about that yes the zodiac was the big news certainly speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: from the marvel panel was there anything else of interest that came out of that of course but speaker-1: Marble zombies. speaker-0: they're they're gonna continue to just make one-offs speaker-1: Yeah, so it's gonna be three more, starting Halloween twenty twenty seven. Okay. And that's the Winter Soldier. Nice. Halloween twenty twenty eight is Fist of Konshu. Okay. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: And Halloween twenty twenty nine is the last guardian. speaker-0: Well, we know how you feel about rumours, but there was Florence Pugh put something out about Moonlight this week and then deleted the or deleted the post. speaker-1: But that's not a rumor that that happened. speaker-0: Yeah, yeah, but the rumor is that Moon Knight's making reappearances and that Florence Pugh is going to be part of the universe that encapsulates that. I mean... We'll see. We'll see. speaker-1: Well say could also just be fisticanchu. speaker-0: Yeah, or it could also just be Florence Pugh being like, I've just watched Moon Knight and it's amazing. Or I'm working with Oscar Isaac somewheres. Like, who knows? speaker-1: Who knows what Florence does, why she does what she does. speaker-0: Yeah, well, she can keep doing what she's doing because she's absolutely amazing. As people go, she seems to be the most amazing people. speaker-1: We'll see. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: Okay, then we went into comic. yeah, an animation. Yep. starting with X Men ninety seven. They showed us a clip of the first episode of the new season. speaker-0: Okay, I'm still in the middle of season... speaker-1: One. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: So actually I just started season one because I was like, no, let me check this out because speaker-0: Did you go back and watch the old X-Men ones? No. That's why I'm only in the middle of season one, because I went back and watched the four seasons of X-Men that came before it. speaker-1: I can't be bothered. It's I'm already watching too much T V as it is. speaker-0: You've got time now. speaker-1: I will say the clip showed the Brotherhood and Rogan Gambit getting married. speaker-0: that's cute. Yeah. speaker-1: So we'll see. We'll we will see. And speaker-0: We speaker-1: we saw the new trailer for your friendly neighborhood Spider Man season two. speaker-0: I'm so excited for this show. speaker-1: Releasing January thirteenth, twenty twenty seven. Yep. Have you seen the first season? speaker-0: nice. So it was amazing because I sat with the kids and we watched it week by week. It was like something that we would watch on a Wednesday when it came out. We would sit down and we would watch it Wednesday night. So it was really good. Yeah, really, really. speaker-1: And know what? I said we watched the trailer. We did watch the trailer, but we also watched a clip from the second season. speaker-0: nice. And of course Charlie Cox makes an appearance. Of course. speaker-1: Of course he does. Doc Ock was in the clip and the trailer hints at Venom. Mm. So speaker-0: think that's where we left it. There was definitely a hint of venom at the end of the loop. speaker-1: Yeah. Then Daredevil Born Again season three, final season. it was funny because they he the moderator announced that the defenders are back, announced all three defenders and or all four defenders and only three showed up. and I read I actually watched a interview with him later and he said he was shitting himself. He thought he spoiled something. Mike Coulter had to drop out last minute due to work due to a work engagement and nobody told the moderator. I love it. I love it. so we watched the trailer. It seems To your and Lucha's chagrin, it does seem like it's a defenders reunion, not a heroes for hire. Will this then turn into Heroes for Hire? Who knows? But I think all those photos that we saw was not Heroes for Hire, it was Defenders Reunion. Okay. speaker-0: Which makes sense, I mean they wouldn't just go in and throw out a Heroes for Hire without testing the water somewhat first and giving us something. And this could be that moment, this could be the moment to see it. Maybe they'll drop it, maybe they'll drop the hint, maybe they'll catch us at Heroes for Hire next to me he does. Or maybe we should do this for Hire, some sort of random line of dialogue. speaker-1: Yeah, we'll see. Because I don't know if you were watching any of the the Charlie Cox clips or whatever what the producers have been saying about Daredevil season three, 'cause the fans are devastated that they announced it's the end of it. they've been making it seem that while Altie ended Daredevil Born Again, like the the thing is like you can't be born again forever. So the producer is not a rumor. The producers are making it seem that this is not the end of Daredevil. speaker-0: So my point is, I said this when we had a conversation about it, I said this, said, born again was an arc that took place, And part of born again was Matt Murdoch spending some time in prison. speaker-1: Which I didn't know until I saw the trailer. But he looks good in that trailer. Matthew Murdoch in prison? Okay by me. speaker-0: Malory's found her new er... erotic library to start watching through prison movies with actors she fancies. Anyway, yes, so I have a feeling that first of all they were never going to announce what would come post-Secret Wars. We were never going to get that because they don't... Okay, they know, but maybe they've not clarified, so we don't know which character, we don't know who's carrying over. Contract wise, actor wise, we don't know what's happening. I think it would be really cool to have Daredevil carry over and... and be a mentor to that universe? speaker-1: That would be speaker-0: He'd be a good mentor for Peter. He's always going to be that little bit older than Peter, so I think it would be good. It would be good to see that. But yes, I was always in the impression when they said Born Again was finishing, I was like, yeah, Born Again. They were very clear as well. Dear Devil, Born Again will end with season three. You're like, okay, are we going to get defenders? Are we going to get... some sort of street level, you know, what are going to get? Are we going to get a series of different things? It'd be cool if they did something like they did with the zombies, like they did with the alternate stuff where we had a Jessica Jones story happening over here. We had a Luke Cage story, Heroes for Hire over here, a Daredevil story, and we see slowly how they all feed into something. speaker-1: Yeah. more Daredevil. Honestly. Like I I can't get enough Daredevil. I'm just really enjoying it. No. speaker-0: Or just give us an animated show. No, no. But as Charlie Cox ages, continue to give us Charlie Cox as Daredevil in an animated film. speaker-1: Because aging has stopped Hugh Jackman? speaker-0: Hugh Jackman. Hugh Jackman. speaker-1: It's speaker-0: It's getting there. I watched it, we watched the other day with the kids and they were like, I put the original X-Men on it and they were like, Greatest Showman. Yeah. speaker-1: Ha ha ha. speaker-0: Like, he's from the Greatest Showman. I was like, wait until you see Les Mis. speaker-1: Don't watch Lee Miz. speaker-0: was great. speaker-1: It's a horrible interpretation. speaker-0: It's beautiful. speaker-1: Garbage. Lee Miz is my favorite show of all time. The movie is Garbage. speaker-0: I've never seen the show and I have no intention of seeing the show because the film is perfect. speaker-1: No, the film is garbage. The film is garbage. Russell Crowe, garbage. Garbage. She is the worst fanzine I've ever seen. speaker-0: Meh. Let me take you to some high school productions. speaker-1: okay, then we ended with Vision Quest. So obviously the cast came out. we had Paul Bettney, we had James Spader, we had Stevie from Shits Creek, we had the guy the kid who's playing Tommy, whose name I will never be able to pronounce. speaker-0: He uses a Scottish accent in it. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, because I'd seen a thing where he was like, I hope people accept my Scottish accent. speaker-1: Yeah. Is it Scottish? speaker-0: I'm sure he said something about it. speaker-1: Might be English? I don't know, but he has an accent. I wasn't really parsing out accents. Yeah. okay, but I will need you to watch it before I arrive. We don't have to get into it because we'll talk about it when I get there in the rewatch, I think. And then we could all talk about it together. But I do need you to watch it before I arrive because there is in the first episode a scene that takes place in a pub that's supposed to be Edinburgh. I need you to tell me if it exists. And if it does, we're going. speaker-0: Okay. I'm sure, I mean, we know that the Russo's have a love affair with Scotland. Right. So the question is, did they get away? And I suppose if they filmed in London, like a lot of them do, it's easy enough to get up here for a couple of days and do some filming. speaker-1: Right, but it also could be a pub in London, they just say it's Edinburgh. it doesn't have to necessarily be Edinburgh. So we'll see. You'll let me know. speaker-0: I'll let you know. I'll watch, I'll find out and I'll let you know. speaker-1: Mm. Alright, so then I feel like that was enough out of Marvel. It was a big Marvel day. speaker-0: Yeah, but it seems like it was a relatively big Marvel day as well. Considering speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: they're keeping everything they possibly can under wraps. And we know the only films we know are coming to Doomsday and Secret Wars. speaker-1: I actually don't think I've ever seen a Marvel movie panel at Comic Con. It's always in Marvel television and animation. And this this is the second year they did it at Comic Con. speaker-0: I was going say they always do the movies remember at San Diego. It does tend to be the big movies are at San Diego. I think New York is TV and. speaker-1: We're starting to get the TV. Yeah. And their whole thing is like because it's down the street. speaker-0: Yeah, I mean, so the TV wise, even when I go back to when we went, Daredevil was there. Remember, Charlie Cox was there. There was the whole thing with Daredevil there. And instead I went to see the Pretty Little Liars because I'm a sucker. speaker-1: Hey you it's 'cause you love your wife. speaker-0: It is because I love my wife, but don't tell her that as a secret. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: But yeah, the TV's always been the prevalent thing. Occasionally they drop some films in, but it's never the big films that they focus on. So the TV in the comments. speaker-1: Yeah. One day. One day we'll go to San Diego. speaker-0: One day we'll go to San Diego. We'll present light from San Diego. speaker-1: Mm-hmm. speaker-0: Yeah, let's do it. Okay, so what other panels did you see? So we've got Brooklyn 99, Marvel. speaker-1: By the way, this is just Thursday. speaker-0: See. speaker-1: So and then I didn't even end my Thursday there. I then went to go see the Crystal Lake panel. speaker-0: okay, yep. speaker-1: It's a new Peacock show. It has now fully dropped on Peacock. we did watch the first episode and there's a QA with the actors. Yep. it is a pre it is I actually went in thinking it was a completely different show than it was. Like I knew it was a prequel to Friday the thirteenth. Yeah. But I thought it was it even preceded Jason. But it doesn't. So it takes place after Jason dies. speaker-0: okay. speaker-1: But before the first Friday the thirteenth. So it's kind of an exploration as to how Pamela Voorhees went from this loving mother to a spoilers if you've never seen Friday the thirteenth, a murderer. Yeah. And it's actually a really I think it's a really a more interesting arc. speaker-0: Yeah, okay. speaker-1: Yeah. So it is definitely a love letter to the original Friday the thirteenth. The director has a bunch of shot for shot scenes from the original Friday the thirteenth, which I love. they use old school horror makeup. They are trying, you know, to keep it as authentic as possible. the and there are s a lot of deaths in it, as you would expect from any Friday the thirteenth. and so all eight episodes have dropped. speaker-0: Okay, and what was that on? Some peacock, you... speaker-1: Peacock. speaking of Mocking Mockingbird, Mockingbird. Pamela Voorhees is played by Emmy Lidda Cardinelli. speaker-0: I was I'd made the same link and I've just gone to IMDB to look up some stuff I didn't realize she was in Keenan and Kel the TV show and Clueless the TV show speaker-1: She dated well dated, but her character in Keenan Cal dated Cal. speaker-0: there we go. Yeah. See, you remember that. Yeah. speaker-1: So but I forgot about it until you said it. And the second you said it was like, yeah. She I think she also liked orange soda. speaker-0: Who doesn't like orange soda? speaker-1: So I loved the ep the show, I loved the episode. Highly recommend if you're e you know what? Luch should even watch it. It wasn't Cover Your Eyes Scary, it's eighties gruesome horror. That's what it is. speaker-0: I think that would be too much for leech. speaker-1: No deal, he can hold his wife's hand. speaker-0: Just so you would know, it's on Now TV in the UK, so it's on Sky, if anybody has Sky. want watch Crystal Lake? It's available on Now TV. Check it out. Through Sky TV. Okay. speaker-1: Right, so that was enough for one day. That was Thursday. yeah. I speaker-0: That was Thursday. And you were late arriving Thursday, speaker-1: worked in the morning. Yeah. the next day at a fur at the the earliest panel, I saw 30 years of ghost face. has been 30 years of scream, which is crazy. speaker-0: I was very aware of that because I started my, back in my day, my sort of movie essay thing with the idea of building towards, and it was always, each week I was going to do a film that was 30 years old that week. So it came right into that era where I fell in love with cinema. Clerks, or not clerks, I think it was more rats at that point. It was, yeah, and it was building Scream. I knew this whole generation of films. And Scream's interesting because Scream didn't actually get a cinema release in the UK until January. speaker-1: Yeah, well it got a cr well that makes sense 'cause it was a Christmas release in the US, which is so silly. Why would that be a Christmas release? speaker-0: why but and yet it still smashed everything it was fantastic. speaker-1: much success. Yeah, 'cause I think it I think it was competing with Titanic. speaker-0: if you're going to compete with a film, you need to be the exact opposite of it. It's like Valentine's Day where you get all the romances and then you get the hangover movie speaker-1: Dared up a Deadpool. speaker-0: or Deadpool or something that is attractive to a mostly male audience, we say. speaker-1: So what they said about it was that it really quickly developed this not even cult following, but the exit poles were what what what what what were what pushed the movie forward. Yeah. Because I don't think people were planning on seeing it, but it was getting such rave reviews when people were leaving that it stayed in the cinema longer, people continued to go, it made so much money. And I think the fans I said really the fans are what have kept it going for thirty years, which I think is any thirty year old movie. speaker-0: And it's wild to think, but Kevin Williamson who wrote it, and I remember that era in film because it was the two Kevins, Kevin Smith, Kevin Williamson, they were the two Kevins. And Kevin Williamson gave a so it was scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is brilliant because they were almost two competing franchises written by the same guy. And then he also gave us Rebirth of Halloween. speaker-1: Yep. speaker-0: He was involved in the Halloween H20 or H20, the Halloween water. But then he also gave us, course, and Luce will be devastated to not be here for this conversation, but Dawson's Creek. speaker-1: Did he? speaker-0: Yeah, that was Kevin Williamson as well. And that was based on his semi-biographical in the way that it was based on him and his life. But yeah, it's crazy that it must have been 10 years he was... the peak of cinema and horror in particular. So he gave us a Venom film, the Venom film, a Venom film, Cursed, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, The Faculty, The Faculty, what a film that is. Yeah. speaker-1: Wow. But he also then definitely has an eye for people. 'Cause think about Dawson's Creek, I know what you did last summer, Scream. If you swap out any of those actors for anybody else, I don't think those would have worked. And Matthew Lear said the same thing about Scream. He goes, It wouldn't work with anybody else. If you didn't have Courtney Cox, if you didn't have N Nev Campbell, you'd have Jamie Kennedy in his second role ever. Yeah. none of that would have worked. speaker-0: Yeah, no, you're absolutely right, I think. Yeah, and Dawson's Creek, the same thing. The speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. speaker-0: exact same thing, Dawson's Creek. speaker-1: Wouldn't I? Well, and they all loved they all talked about working with Wes Craven. I didn't realize this, but the there was a fourth guy on the panel, so it was Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy, and it was his fourth guy, and I was like, you know what? I bet he was the the speaker-0: Cat speaker-1: cat. I bet he was ghost face, and sure enough, he was ghostface. but so he was he's obviously a stunt actor, but he had worked with Wes on Friday the thirteenth. Nope, nope, nightmare nightmare on Elmstro on Elmstrap. Yeah. and so he's obviously a little older than the rest of the guys, but they all just talk about how great Wes is, how he gives you the space to kind of act how you want to do it after you do what's on the page, including him as Ghostface. which is all just mannerisms. Because obviously he's not the one talking. speaker-0: Ironically, if he was around doing it now, he'd probably win awards because as we saw with Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian where he won his award and he was like, I can't take the credit for this. There's a guy in the suit 50 % of the time. Yeah. speaker-1: and then he also said an other thing that I love, which I I don't know if you've heard of heard this, but people are calling Matthew Lillard's character and Skeet Ulrich's character the first husbands of horror. I love it. speaker-0: I like that. love that. speaker-1: And it is. 'Cause there to be fair, there's this underlying sexual tension between them, which they weren't going for, but he said it is important for them to be able to hold that space and he's happy that the movie has evolved even in that way. speaker-0: Yeah, and I think that was it was the first time that we'd seen everybody was waiting for the twist. It's a horror movie. What's the twist? Where's the twist? What's the twist? I think anybody thought there's two. speaker-1: Right. speaker-0: Nobody was going there and I remember watching at the time nobody was thinking that. So it was was cool to see and it was cool and also it was a human killer. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: rather than be seeing these horror movies so more often than not, there's a supernatural element to it. Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, all those guys like Jason, there's that supernatural element. Here it was just a human killer, it was just... speaker-1: It was a hurt boy and his boyfriend. speaker-0: Yeah, he's his body crap, yeah. speaker-1: So that was a fun one. then I saw a double panel of ghosts with eternally yours. so obviously Ghost US. I do want to say how excited I am for the Ghost UK Halloween movie. And speaker-0: move. speaker-1: I'm hoping I can be able to see it here. I'm pumped about that. But to the Ghost US, it's premiering on ho this is a Halloween special, it's the first episode. We saw an extended clip from it. they talked about this season there will be a ghost on ghost possession. There they are doing a die hard episode. We are doing a hangover episode. speaker-0: see, this is it. That sounds like some good episodes. speaker-1: Yeah. They also said that they kinda naturally had to change what the show is about, this season because Rose, who plays the the main girl, she's out for the f first first few episodes of the season 'cause she's had she had a baby, the actress. So the mo the show normally at its heart is this romantic comedy with ghosts. But because she's out, they had to bring Kyle back, who also can see ghosts. so it's turned into they said it's New Girl Meets Ghosts. So it's a buddy comedy with ghosts. speaker-0: with ghosts. I remember Ghosts when it first launched in the UK, I've never watched much of it after that. speaker-1: I love Ghost UK, I will say, normally I like the UK versions of things better. I think the US version is better than the UK version. speaker-0: I know you don't want to the office, but I would argue that the office is proof that sometimes that works out. Once the American office went and did its own thing, stopped trying to recreate the British thing, and just sort of went off in its own direction, so superior to the British one. speaker-1: Definitely check out Ghost US if haven't seen it. I'm a big fan. And then the creators, the Joes, have also started a new show called Eternally Yours. it is about a vampire coven, a couple who has been married for 400 years and their daughter and their daughter's new mortal boyfriend. speaker-0: Alright, that sounds an awful lot like the Adam Sandler animated movie. That's one, yeah, that whole series. speaker-1: Hotel Transylvania. Yeah. it's a lot of fun. The this in their coven there's another vampire man who his whole thing is that, you know, he never dates vampires 'cause he doesn't want to be stuck with them for four hundred years or eternity. speaker-0: you may need to do a caprio. speaker-1: Yeah. So so he only marries mortals and they're like, Well, how's that working out for you now? Because everyone's living longer. And the actress must be like in her sixties. and they have kids, and like it's funny, and she doesn't know they're vampires. so it's it's funny. I it's not as good as ghosts, but it's still, you know, finding its pudding. So I've already watched the first two episodes of that. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: It's fun. Ghost is better. speaker-0: Alright, I'll take the onboard. speaker-1: Yeah. And that was my Friday. It was an easy Friday. I left. That was an easy Friday. Did more work. So Thursday was a late morning, late night. Friday was early morning, early night. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: Saturday I did one panel. No. Did two panels. speaker-0: I was gonna say the problem is with Saturday is that that's where the big guns really come out so... No. speaker-1: No. There was nothing good this week on the weekend. Everything was Thursday and Friday. My friend was like, I'd start going during the week now. The only panel that I saw, I saw the only reservation panel I saw on Saturday was Nicolas Cage. speaker-0: yeah. speaker-1: I there was there was like a one piece anime panel. There was that Percy Jackson panels. Was that all Luch panels? Yeah. but things like I'm not interested in. speaker-0: So how is the Nicolas Cage panel though? So what was he there to talk about? What's he got coming up? Or is it just Nicolas Cage? speaker-1: It's just Nicolas Cage being Nicolas Cage. He is so pretentious. Yeah. but you expect it with Nicolas Cage. he announced, which I don't think he was supposed to announce because they shortly after announced it, that he will be doing the next season of True Detective. Which they speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: then later announced it will be him and Antonio Banderas. speaker-0: That's a good line up. speaker-1: Yeah. he mentioned that he is not an AI friendly actor. He didn't sign the waiver to allow Amazon to do to use AI and he is pretty sure that's why Spider Noir was canceled. speaker-0: that was, he came out firing bullets. Interesting. speaker-1: and the other thing I thought was fun was the moderator asked him if Ghost Rider and Spider Noir go to a bar, who picks up the tab? Spider-Noir. speaker-0: It was interesting even with Spider-Noir because they you know it's still a variation of Peter but it wasn't they changed the name of the character because they couldn't play with the Spider-Verse stuff and what rights Marvel have and what rights they don't have what Sony's got it was all that complicated stuff so Yeah, but it's interesting to hear that. But is he not voicing somebody in a new animated TV show? speaker-1: If he is, it won't be for Amazon. speaker-0: Well, yeah, that would make sense. Sony are definitely doing something. He's definitely doing some voicing of Spider-Man 1 for something else. Not Amazon directly. speaker-1: Okay. It was fine. I know I never loved a spotlight, but Yeah. speaker-0: You've got to in room in that cage. speaker-1: Who was wearing leather on leather? Like what else you expect out of Nicholas Kids? speaker-0: course. People asking questions, because I had got up and asked him how it was to be in Greece, or deliberately named a John Travolta thing, just to really play with the whole face swapping thing. speaker-1: Nope. Nobody could ask questions besides the moderator. I also did my photo on Saturday. You speaker-0: or you did your photo. speaker-1: did your photo. No, I lied, I did that on Friday. Insert photo here. speaker-0: Yeah, interestingly, did he greet you by name this time? Is he like, it's you again? When you walk through the door now? speaker-1: Can't tell you as an NDA. speaker-0: He walks through and he's like, Mallory, she's back! I love the podcast by the way. speaker-1: my god. Okay, but okay, maybe I'm crazy, but I have seen other people post photos of him, like with him from the same one I did, and he seemed to like put his arm around me more than them. So At least it meets it makes it seem like I don't come across like a psychopath. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: So speaker-0: I like the psychopath that we saw when we were in Disneyland Paris at Thor. speaker-1: Which one? my speaker-0: That creepy girl with Loki. speaker-1: god. that was so good. So good. Also the low speaker-0: Another speaker-1: key that you maybe take a photo with not Q. speaker-0: Yeah, well, we didn't make you take a photo. You were like, pushed our kids out of the way so you could take a picture with Loki. was so desperate to take a picture with Loki it was unbelievable. speaker-1: I was so bored speaker-0: He trimming, he had to tell you no, it was inappropriate. speaker-1: I was already mortified because okay, you don't know who you're taking a photo with. It's a surprise. And I just happened to be in Loki gear and it happened to be Loki, so I was already mortified because it looked like I was going to a concert wearing the con like the fans merch. And then you made the comment. I did not do a single thing. I was happy to be there supporting your children. Lies. This is slander. Discrimination. Gar it. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: Sunday. So Sunday I was supposed to go to two panels. I was supposed to do the NCIS Origins panel. But I decided to skip it because I was able to finally, after trying all four days, get into the Crystal Lake experience. and so I wanted to do that. It was speaker-0: I know you should share that with our social media following. speaker-1: No, because it it was the you couldn't film in it. So I have a photo, it was silly. Yeah. basically you go into a cabin, they treat you like it's camp orientation. But my god, I didn't even tell you. They before you go in, they go, Has anybody worked at camp before? And so my friends point at me And they and they ask what did she ask? no, 'cause it 'cause nobody got hurt yet, 'cause it it's before that. But I think they asked if it was a sleepaway camp or if we had a lake, something like whatever. That, you could at least maybe our camp wasn't great. but at least somebody ever drowned in the lake. So then you go in and it's a whole thing, everyone's screaming, Pamela Voorhees is there, blah dah da da. And then you go into another room, it there's a dead body there. body. the sh the lights turn out and then Pamela Voorhees comes on as soon as the lights come back on they snap a photo of you. Yeah. It was fine. I got a cute pin out of it though and that's maybe that made me happy. I like it it was nice. speaker-0: It's funny because I think about some of the stuff that I got there and I've shown this before but I've still got my... Right, speaker-1: I like that. speaker-0: which they were giving out as you were leaving Comic Con and it's the little things sometimes that you get while you're there. I've got my Iron Fist sticker on the wall there, those little mementos, those little badges. speaker-1: Yeah, the little stuff. So that was fine. So I thought that it was worth skipping NCIS for that because they only let in a hundred and fifty people a day. speaker-0: it's interesting as well because I don't know why you'd want to go see NCIS because there's seven billion episodes. speaker-1: No no, it's the new series. It's called NCIS Origins. So there's been zero episodes. speaker-0: There's still a billion episodes. It's like the McDonald's of procedural TV. You speaker-1: Well, I've seen most of their speaker-0: can franchise it. Give us enough money and we'll let you make your own show. speaker-1: Fair. Whatever. So I skipped that. And then instead I did see the rookie panel. And for the rookie panel started the MC, you know, last day a Comic Con. And the MC did announce that you know, it really would be a Comic Con without Nathan Villian. Which speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: is fair and true. speaker-0: I got ya. speaker-1: so they announced it's coming out January and now I'm blanking January 9th. followed by the Rookie North, which takes place in Canada. We saw the trailers for both. Both look great. speaker-0: What is it with American TV shows and franchising things? I just can't imagine that they would ever do like... So back when I was a teenager there was a show called London's Burning that they didn't go, you know what we should do? We should do Newcastle's Burning. speaker-1: Yeah, well you guys don't do more than like four seasons of a show anyway before canceling it, so speaker-0: London's burning to be fair, think a good few seasons of London's burning. speaker-1: Also, what do you mean you guys don't do spin-offs? Torchwood, Sarah Jane Chronicles. speaker-0: spin-offs are different. We don't just rename something and change its location. 911. 911 Texas. speaker-1: It's nine one one Lone Star. And it's speaker-0: there we go. That was it. speaker-1: really good. I also really like nine one one. speaker-0: Yeah, no, to be fair, I liked the first season, two seasons. I was the same with the rookie though. I just feel like it got to a point where I was like, is now getting too procedural. speaker-1: Mm, yeah, but I like it because I I I'll watch anything with Nathan Phillips. speaker-0: I know what mean, there's a joy to watching those shows because there's basically every episode wraps itself up and then there's 10 minutes of story that keeps you engaged for 20 episodes. That's my other issue with American TV shows is 24 episodes. We've discussed that in the past. speaker-1: Yeah. I know. Fine, but it was good. Nathan Fillion, he's perfect, you know, the usual. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: and that was really it. And then so obviously you saw my video. Yeah. The viewers have seen my video and it was I saw somebody made a thing, he was like, it's Heroes and Villains, it doesn't count. Like, no, Heroes and Villains was in collaboration with Marvel. Like the Marvel booth was Heroes and Villains. It was a collaboration between two of them. So I fully believe that it was like it wasn't just Heroes and Villains deciding what's in Doom's lair. I think I'm came from Marvel. Like when I was at the Marble booth, if you asked wanted to buy something, they sent you Yeah. speaker-0: Okay, it is interesting because there's loads of things there that would make reference to it to right the way through the whole MCU universe Extended universe as such so it would be cool to see how that fits in and whether that's again. I threw it out there I was like is this Dooms Trophy from? Is speaker-1: I think that speaker-0: that what we're getting? It'd be cool if it was but also it's just cool to see that stuff together It's Comic Con guys. Something speaker-1: Yeah. It was I'm speaker-0: like a series speaker-1: somebody should also post the photos I took of the costumes. speaker-0: Yeah, you should. speaker-1: I I don't have the password, so speaker-0: I don't know what the password is either, I'm just signing to it. I'll figure it out and share it with you. speaker-1: Or you could just post it. Yeah. but I did s after going through Doom that little Doom Room, I did find myself something. speaker-0: Wanted you, speaker-1: It's a Doom sweater for those who are not watching, just listening. And then the back, Matt, you're gonna have to read the back because I don't remember. speaker-0: I'm a dirty whore for doom. speaker-1: What it says What does it say? speaker-0: No, sorry, it says Doom-Me. speaker-1: somebody's father, will you please just read it properly? speaker-0: I can't read it, it hoods in the way. speaker-1: See that? speaker-0: Yeah, it says Supreme Doom... Bummer. speaker-1: Leader, leader. speaker-0: Yeah! speaker-1: I will be wearing this every time I see Doomsday. speaker-0: I was going to say, so this is where it gets interesting, as I was scrolling through socials before we came on here, and we know you love these rumours and these things, somebody had said that their first audience feedback had started coming in for Doomsday, and that it was bleak, bloody, murderous, there wasn't a lot of humour, there was just lots of death all over the place. speaker-1: Ha ha speaker-0: And I was sitting there thinking, I think what Doomsday's supposed to be, right? It's supposed to be like... And then speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: the guy who was talking about the video was like... And then he goes, and I think that's exactly what doomsday said. I was like, okay, we're all on the same page here. No, speaker-1: That's called Clown's Day. speaker-0: no. And we, think we're fully aware that there's a bunch of people that are going to die in this one and then we're going to have secret wars where things will get wrapped up in a more positive way. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Okay, but do you like my sweater? speaker-0: I do like your sweater, it's very nice. speaker-1: You thank you. I spent too much money on it. speaker-0: Yeah, I mean when we were down, we took Molly down to Manchester for her birthday and in one of the shops there they had the Daredevil mask and Billy Clubs, I was just like, I'm just saying. Jack did the thing where Jack was like, I have 10 pounds, I just need 10 pounds more so I can get this Power Ranger toy. And I took the gem out and I was like, I have five pounds, I just need 130 pounds so I can get this Daredevil mask and Billy Clubs. Like it didn't work, Jack seemed to get what he wanted and I didn't get what I wanted. speaker-1: His was a lot cheaper. speaker-0: wow it's all relative isn't it all relative so comic-con the costume or the the theme of the year speaker-1: wait, my okay. There was a lot of Daredevils. there were a lot of there was somebody else there's a lot of. There's a lot of Spidermen, but they were also trying to beat the Guinness book world record for most Spider Men in one room. Okay. There was my god, my favorite I should have taken a photo of this guy. I didn't and you'll I thought it would have been too creepy. There was a guy walking around shirtless in a towel with just the Spider-Man mask on. It was good. speaker-0: I like it. It's confident. speaker-1: Yeah, I mean he could pull it off. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: there was another guy who had a bathtub that like looked like a sauna. like you know, but I didn't see him, I just saw videos of it. but and then I text you guys that all over the con was this dungeon crawler Carl. Yeah. Which I'd never heard of at all, and it was everywhere, including like all the merch stands, everything said goddammit donut. I had to Google what goddammit donut is from. It's from Dungeon Crawler Carl. Yeah. What is this? speaker-0: So it was on the peripheral of my awareness, where you start seeing references for it popping up in different places. And I was aware of it. The easiest way to describe it to you is it's Ready Player One, the next Ready Player One. No, speaker-1: But movie. speaker-0: not yet, right? It's only a matter of time. I'm throwing it out there. Although I think it would work better as a show. But Ready Player One was a book first. speaker-1: I see I didn't know that. speaker-0: OK. So Ready Player One's a book first. Ready Player One was a book first that was changed into a movie. And Ready Player One is all about the references. Right? All the movie references, all those sorts of references. And Dungeon Call of Karl doesn't have the same amount of references, but it's got the same sort of references. And that reference to pop culture and things like that. I after we'd spoken about it. I said I'd left here. I was driving down the road There was a guy walking past in the Dungeon Call equality shirt, then I'd seen a book I'd seen the book. I'd seen something else. There was a reference to it or something I was watching So I was just like well a science here, so I've actually picked it up. I picked it up on Friday I think it was and I'm 120 pages into it so far Yeah, it makes me think of you. It does make me think of you and your partner cat speaker-1: My pain in the ass, Cat. speaker-0: So the irony of this is, no spoilers here, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Princess Donut, the cat, is his ex-girlfriend's cat, recent ex-girlfriend's cat that he's always hated but he's secretly got an affinity for. And once he gets sent into this dungeon world, the cat gets the ability to talk and becomes this sort of permanent annoyance. But also is learning how to type in the group chat. So there's lots of sort of interactions which is god damn it, it? speaker-1: I like it. I like it. Well it made me wish that I knew what it was 'cause I would had more things to buy. Although I guess maybe it's a good thing I didn't know what it was or else I would have spent lot more money than I did. speaker-0: Probably, yeah. And there's three books so far. There's the three books. speaker-1: D I think they announced at Comic Con another book and a T V show with Seth McFarlane? speaker-0: Okay, so that's was going to say it's surely it's only a matter of time. speaker-1: sure because you know how your phone listens to you. All of a sudden I started getting all these Comic Con articles. So I'm pretty sure I could be wrong. I could I might be starting a rumor. You know my thoughts about rumors. speaker-0: So yep, produced by Seth MacFarlane's fuzzy door, the showrunner is Chris Yost, who is involved with Thor Ragnarok and the Mandalorian. speaker-1: There you go. speaker-0: So, and audio book narrator Jeff Hayes will voice Princess Donut in the live act. speaker-1: I like it. speaker-0: Yes. So it was like you said, it was one of those things I was, it was on the peripheral, so I'd started seeing stuff for it and then as soon you mentioned it, it was just like, it's there, it's everywhere. And then when I was walking past Waterstones, they had it in the window, it was one of their weekly best buddies or whatever. speaker-1: So crazy. I know it's funny. It's like one of those things that like as soon as you say it, you see it everywhere. speaker-0: Mm-hmm. Yeah, so when you get a new car and you don't see the car on the road and then you buy a new car and you're like, everybody's got one of these. speaker-1: Right. Right. speaker-0: All right, so it was good. You enjoyed Comic Con? It was an enjoyable speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: experience. It wasn't too overcrowded. It wasn't too insane. Well... speaker-1: Know what I did this year that I I I thought was smart of me, snaps for Mallory is when because I didn't have to w wait in the queue hall 'cause of the stupid pre preservation, I went right to the show floor. And so it was empty. So I was able to like do the show floor in like a quarter of the amount of time 'cause I wasn't the I wasn't gridlocked. speaker-0: Yeah, Thursday's the best day for that. people make a weekend of it, but Friday's the... speaker-1: Saturday, even Saturday morning, I was able to run through. It's crazy. speaker-0: Nice. Yeah. It's always good. It's always a good experience. It's always something fun. speaker-1: Yeah. 'Cause remember Thursday I didn't get in until late. speaker-0: yeah. I mean it's always good as well to do a walk around in the later afternoon of the early days if you go on a Sunday afternoon good luck finding anything that's left. speaker-1: No. That's why whenever I see something I buy it because you never know. So I got this and then I got two other things, which I'll debut at another time. speaker-0: Alright, we'll wait for that. We'll wait for that. Okay, well, that was episode 64 of Not Quite Nerds, or as we're now saying, that was this week's episode of Not Quite Nerds. speaker-1: We've learned that none of us can count. None of us can count We don't know it goes beyond thirty-seven. speaker-0: Yeah, that's all we need to know. Because after 37, it's just 37 in a row. speaker-1: Thirty seven in a row. speaker-0: Thank you very much for listening. Please like, subscribe, do all those things, review us, tell everybody about us and help us build the following for the podcast. And you never know, maybe we can do more. speaker-1: You never know. speaker-0: You never know. never know. And on that note, thank very much. We'll see you again next week. speaker-1: yeah, next week.
