- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Messiah in Life, hosted by Bishop Justin D.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Elwell.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Once again, we pause our study of Ephesians as Justin is away with his wife who is being treated for cancer.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: We covet your prayers during this season, and Lord willing, we will return to the Ephesians study very soon.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: In this episode, we'll explore the sound of the shofar, the story of Isaac, and the greater redemption God has provided through Messiah Jesus.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: The gospel is not only about forgiveness, it is about freedom.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Messiah has set us free to serve him, and we are called to stand firm in that liberty.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Join us for the liberty of Messiah, the greater son, and the horn of salvation.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And now to Bishop Justin.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: Luke chapter 1, beginning in verse 67.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: And his father Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited, underline visited, and redeemed his people.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: And he has raised up a horn of salvation, underlying horn of salvation, for us in the house of David, his servant, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets and from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us, to show the mercy promised to our fathers.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: And here it is, to remember.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: Zikaran Tarua, we remember the taruah, we remember the trumpet said so many times over the last many months.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Our feasts are times of remembrance.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: To remember his holy covenant, the oath that he swore to our.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: If the Lord God swears an oath, will he fulfill it?
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: He swore to our Father Abraham to grant us that we being delivered from the hand of our enemies might serve him.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Underline serve without fear.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: With fear?
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: I'm just checking to make sure you're all awake.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: And you, child, will be called the prophet of the most high.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: You imagine you're beholding your infant son, newly circumcised, newly named.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: And this child will be the prophet of the most high.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: For you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, relying on that Nachmu, the transition in Isaiah 40, to give knowledge of salvation to his people and the forgiveness of their sins, forgiveness, because of the tender mercy of our God.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: Underline that, the tender mercy of our God.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: For his people, even his correction is tender mercy, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: And the child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: This is God's word.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: The sound of the shofar, the teruah, the broken sound, it's understood in the literature to be a broken sound from within our heart, in our spirit, that we recognize the brokenness and we cry out from that brokenness.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: And that when we cannot, because the stress is too much, because it is too difficult for us to bear, we have the sound of the turua, we have the sound of the shofar that calls us to remember that he hears us, that he hears our brokenness, that he hears that which needs to be repaired in us, restored in us, renewed in us.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: That's the sound of remembrance.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: It's the sound of awakening.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: If you were, I know I put you all to sleep here, if you were to fall asleep, I'm not giving you permission to fall asleep right now, but if you were to fall asleep right now, I guarantee you, when Michael blows the shofar, you will wake up.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: And that prophetically is what needs to happen.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: That's why year after year after year, we're brought to a place of remembrance to hear the sound of the shofar.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: How do we know the sound unless we hear it?
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: How do we know it unless we hear it?
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: How do we have that anticipation for the coming of the Lord who will be announced from heaven with the sound of the trumpet?
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Because we rehearse it year after year.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: We're remembering the past while we're also remembering the future.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: How do we remember the future?
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: We remember the future because he's already spoken to us the future.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: We know what is coming, so we remember the future in order to continue living faithfully here and now.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: We're in that place of now, but not yet.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: We're tasting and touching the kingdom of God while we have not yet entered fully into it.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: So we remember it.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: We need to be reminded of it.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: It's a remembrance that the Lord is faithful.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: It's a remembrance that he desires us to come before him.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: He desires that we have a mikra, mikra, koidesh, a holy convocation, a holy dress rehearsal where we rehearse glory now.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: That's what every assembly is, that's what every Shabbat is.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: It's to come together and rehearse glory.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: What is it?
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Look, you know, I'm sorry.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: I know this is gonna, anyway.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: If I go to a Broadway play and and spend the shekels on said Broadway play, I mean fan of the opera, glorious.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Fiddler on the Roof, absolutely glorious.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: I I bought my wife for our 10th wedding.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: This was a while ago.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: I was only six at the time.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: How I paid for the tickets, I don't know.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: I wanted a surprise of my wife for the 10th anniversary, so we both had wanted to see Fiddler forever.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: She wanted to see it on Broadway.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: I didn't care, I'd go to the playhouse, whatever.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: And I said when I revealed this shocking truth that I had spent money on this, she said, Did what what seats did you have?
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: I think I got good seats.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: I think I might have got the second row.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: I think there are good seats.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I bought front row center.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: With Harvey Feierstein playing Fiddler, uh playing Tevy, excuse me, playing Fiddler, playing Tevya.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: He was brilliant, by the way.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: And he was right there.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: So speaking to our hearts.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Anyway, I think I bought good seats.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: I had a purpose for bringing this up, but I don't remember what it is.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: But it it draws our attack.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: We don't, and the thing is, when when you go to see someone on broad, you don't want to see them muddling about.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: You don't want to see them figuring it out as they go.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: You want them real well rehearsed, you want them to hit that mark.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: You know, and that's where we work this out.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: We come in and we hit that mark.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: You know, sometimes I reach for notes that I probably shouldn't at the age of 35.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: I reach for them and then I go, no.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: So I'm rehearsing that glorious day when I won't be limited by my 35-year-old vocal cords.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Glory to God.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: But it's the faithfulness, it's to remember it, to acknowledge, to come before him.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: I'm not even in this first second paragraph yet.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: So for those of us who believe, of course, have received Messiah, the shofar allows us to hear the gospel, but also to hear the gospel within the first century context that we've just read.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: This was the prophecy of the gospel.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: It was a prophecy of what the Lord was doing.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: It was a prophecy that the set time had come, that the one who would go before had arrived.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: He was born, he was circumcised, he was named, and he blessed his parents.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: So we hear this so far, and we're reminded of, we're reminded of the glory of the gospel.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: We hear the ram's horn.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: We remember, as we thought last, we studied last night, the Akidah, the binding of Isaac.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: We remember the ram that was provided in his place, the the beautiful theology of substitutionary sacrifice.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: And we remember the provision as we're drawn toward the greater son, the son in whom every promise of God is yes and amen.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: The promises given to Abraham, yes, we're in, contained in Isaac.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: But there's a greater redemption, a greater work that is provided by the Lord through Messiah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: So last night we we stood there with Abraham and Isaac on Mount Moriah.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: We walked that three days, we ascended that mountain, we stood in the uncertainty of the moment, but we stood in the faith of Abraham.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: That even though he did not know how the Lord would do it, he knew that he would do it.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: The boy and I will go on and then we will come back.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: He knew that he would come back with his son.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: What did that look like?
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: I'm sure he did not know.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: But he knew the Lord would provide.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: He was the only, he was the only unique son.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: But Abraham had a son.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Ishmael.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: But in Ishmael, the promise of God was not embedded, connected.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Within Isaac, it was.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Remember, Ishmael, I think if we're all honest, we all have an Ishmael in our life.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: Whatever it might look like.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: And we find that the promise of God is not in our Ishmael, but in him fulfilling his word.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: Only he can fulfill his word.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: He doesn't require our participation in it.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: He requires that we trust him in it.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: And as they're ascending, of course, Isaac very astutely, I'm I'm of a position that believes he's much older.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: Because even at the age of 40, an unmarried man in that culture would have been a lad.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: I'm of the position he was probably somewhere around 37 years old.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: Now imagine, as I've said before, had he desired to, as soon as uh Isaac started putting on, or excuse me, Abraham started putting on the binding, he could have said, you know what, Pop, you've lost it.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Flap.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: He would have given him a tribulum upside the head.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: But what did he do?
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: He willingly gave in and submitted to his father.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: Isaac, as as as Stephen pointed out, I had not really thought of it.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: What was Isaac thinking at that moment?
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: He must have been saying, if this be the Father's will, your will be done.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Imagine.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: Having not even that much faith in the God of his father, but in his father himself.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: That he must have heard from the Lord.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: That he in that place must have heard, and he placed his trust in the hands of his father's faith.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Where's the lamb?
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: Where's the lamb?
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: The Lord will provide himself with the lamb.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: But even the rabbis point out he didn't.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: He provided a ram.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: The ram's not the lamb.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: Again, we have the substitute that is given.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: So Isaac was bound, he's placed on the altar, but then heaven intervened.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Do not harm the lad.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Don't harm them.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Don't lay a finger on him.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: And then, as Stephen pointed out, I don't know if it was Stephen pointing it out or if it was in my notes, but one or the other, it was somebody did.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: The Ram had already been there.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Now this is really getting meta.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Was it me or was it Memorex?
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: That's an old reference.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: I'm on a roll with old references today.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: But the ram was there.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: And the thing that we always need, remember, the rabbis say that the cure is always sent before the illness.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: The ram was there already, the sacrifice was there already, the substitute was there.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: But he had to go through that pain of willingly giving up that which he loved most, his son.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: And he asks nothing short of that of all of us today.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: What do we love most?
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: What is it that we hold on to the most?
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Are we willing to give that to him?
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: But God, you promised, yes, now give it back.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: He waited.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: He was a hundred.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: For goodness sake, he was already a hundred years old.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: And you gave him a baby.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: And then some 30 years later, you're saying, hey, give him back.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Lord, you promised.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: But trust me with the promise.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: See, the ram was offered instead of the sun.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: So Abraham called the place Arana Yedere.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: The Lord will provide.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Is that our testimony?
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: See, this morning I read Luke because Luke begins with this beautiful prophecy of the fulfillment of what was spoken, that the Lord will provide the Lamb.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: Zachariah says, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: And then he says, and he will raise up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: The Kiras Soterias, the horn that is of salvation.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: It's the same word that is used in the Septuagint for Karen, for horn, the very thing that the ram was caught by.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: The very thing that held that ram in place became a sign of salvation.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: That he is raising up a horn of salvation.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Of course, the horn is symbolic in scripture of strength, authority, victory, and royal power.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: The Meshiach, the anointed.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: And that there will be something in this horn of salvation.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Because the beauty is the halakha is you never put something above the Torah scroll.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: This isn't a cabinet that you set your coffee on.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: If somebody comes up and puts their water bottle on it, I'm going to be absolutely apoplectic over it.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: But what is there?
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: What do you see?
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Crown of thorns.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Why would I permit that?
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: Because the substitutionary sacrifice, the lamb promised by the Lord, had that placed upon his head.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: The Karen Yeshi found himself caught in a thicket.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: He is the word made flesh.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: He is the one that every promise of God is caught up in.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: That's why only, I don't know how I got back there, but only that's the only thing I'll I'll tolerate up there.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Trua is the language that has significant and important meaning.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: Of course, last night we remembered the ram caught in caught by its horns.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: And here Zachariah prophetically is speaking by the Holy Spirit about the horn of salvation.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: See, the shofar reminds us, and I want you to get this into your heart.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: It reminds us of the Lord's provision.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: He's drawing us and drawing our attention to what he has provided.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: There are a lot of you, and I would number myself in that, who are waiting, who are wondering.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: No matter what the issue is, you're in this holding pattern, we might say.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: And the shofar of Yom Trua reminds us that his provision is already there.
- 18:07SPEAKER_02: What will be is already there.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: It's caught up in his name of who he is.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: It's there.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: But we don't have to find it.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: We don't have to search it out.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: It's the voice of heaven that reveals it.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: When the Holy Spirit speaks and our eyes are taken away from what we are so unwilling to turn away from, that we're so unwilling to give up, that we're trembling with the thought that we have to give this up.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Heaven intervenes, speaks, and all of a sudden the remedy is there before us.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: And the shofar reminds us of that.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: It's continually catching our attention in order that we would look up, that we would look to him.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: So the story of Isaac, of course, points us to the significance of our Messiah.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: He's pointing to our Messiah.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: Isaac, of course, was the promised son, a promised son, but Yeshua is the promised son.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Isaac was beloved of his father.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: Yeshua is the beloved son of his father.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Isaac carried the wood toward that place of sacrifice, but Yeshua carried his cross toward Golgotha, toward the place of the skull.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: And I love that he was offered up at that place for a number of reasons.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: But most significantly, of what they did from that place, where they counted the heads of those going into the temple.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: Yeshua is the only way into the heavenly temple.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: And he knows who are his.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: See, Isaac willingly submitted himself to the Father's purpose.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: Yeshua willingly laid down his life according to the will of the Father.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Not my will, but thy will be done.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: He modeled for us how to He modeled for us how to live the prayer of the disciple.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: And I've said this so lovingly to all of you over the years.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: As far as I know, none of us have been under so much pressure that we sweat blood.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Praise the Lord, because Messiah sweat blood for us.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: He's endured the pressure of Gethsemane.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: But there's one difference, of course, that changes everything.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: On Moriah, God intervened.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: On Moriah, God intervened, but on Golgotha there was no intervention.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: There was no staying of the hand.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: There was no angel who came down to stop the sacrifice.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: There was no one that uh that stepped out of heaven and said, you know, Eliyahu Anavi did not come down and say to the Roman officer, don't touch him, don't crucify him, don't do that.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: No, no one intervened on Yeshua's behalf.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Because there's no substitute for Yeshua.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: He cannot be substituted with anything.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: No matter how good their intention, your intention could be, would be, you cannot substitute for him.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: There is no substitute for him.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Yeshua himself became the substitute for us.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: And I'm so I I really I pray that someday we grab a hold of the weight of the gospel, the beauty of the gospel, the grace of the gospel, the floor.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Fullness of the gospel.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: We still by nature want to add something to it.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: We still want to insert ourselves somewhere in there in order that we might feel somehow fulfilled.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: Or that in some way we've helped the Lord save us.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: If only we do this, if only we add that, if only we stop doing this and we start doing that, if only and we realize, no, that's not the gospel.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: See, dear friends, at this time of year the truth, the tradition is that there's scales and we're we're measuring out our good deeds versus our bad deeds, but beloved friends, we can't even put a finger on the scale to make ourselves accepted.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: And you should be happy about that.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: We should be happy that our action does not merit us to be accepted by him.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: But because of his loving action, his loving grace, because of who he is, having called us to himself, having offered the once-for-all sacrifice for who we are, what we were.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: And as I've said before, as horribly, horribly sinful and wayward as we were.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: And you were so much far worse than that, beloved friends.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: All of us were.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: That's the gospel, that's the truth.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: You say, No, I know I was bad.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: I was a bad, I was a bad boy.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: I deserved a spanking.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was a bad boy.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: No, you were far worse.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Far, far worse.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: But beloved friends, the gospel doesn't leave you in that.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: The gospel does not leave you in condemnation.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: The gospel brings you into the good news that God loves you.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: And he gave his son for you.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: You are loved far more than you can ever imagine.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Isn't that a message people need today?
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: But is it a message that people want to receive?
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: No.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: Because they think that somehow, if they enter into this existential crisis, that somehow that crisis will fix their issue, their problem, their situation No, it can't.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: No amount of existential angst will rescue you from your sinfulness, will change your circumstance.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: It can't, it's powerless except to exhaust you.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: Romans 3 23-24 says this all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of the Lord.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: But we are justified freely by his grace.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Did you see how Paul says that?
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: Freely, by his grace through the redemption that is in Messiah Yeshua.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: We cannot provide for our own salvation.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: You say, dear brother, you say this all the time.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: I've read the scripture, I know what it says.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: I'll stop saying it when you start start living it.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Did you hear me?
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: I'll stop saying it when you start living it.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: How do I know you're not living it?
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Well, my phone, you know, I'm about last time I checked, 90 messages, text messages, and other messages behind today.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: That's only from yesterday at five o'clock until now.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: So much for that shaba snap.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: It's like everybody on the continent had my phone number yesterday, glory to God.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: I'm not complaining because I don't do anything else.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Hey, it takes a lot of work to make this look this good.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: You all laugh too heartily at that.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure how I feel about that.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Praise the Lord.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: It is the season of Chuva.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: You have time to change your mind.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Amen.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: So we can't, glory to God.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: We can't provide for our own salvation, beloved friends.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: I know I've said that.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: And I know you've read it, and I know we know it.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: We cannot make ourselves righteous, we cannot save ourselves, but, and as I've said so many times before, some butts are bigger than others.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: This is a big one, but Adonaira, the Lord provides.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: While we were yet sinners, before we knew we needed salvation, the provision was there.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: The sacrifice for our sin was there.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: John 3 16, I know it gets overly used, but it is incredibly important.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Gave us the Lord gave us his only begotten Son, the monogenes.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: Uniquely his own, uniquely him, his person, his Ganes, his generation.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: And I know that the scholars get downright constipated about that.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: Well, what about us?
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: Well, hey dummy.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: When you are in sin, you ain't his son.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: Oh well, that sounds just judge judgy.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Well, I didn't write the book.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: Now I know I'm old.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: 35?
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Checks are in the mail, folks.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Glory to God.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: But this is the language that is important.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Genesis 22.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: John 3 16, of course, draws us back to Genesis 22, speaking about the beloved, the unique son of the Father.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: Isaac was spared because God provided a substitute.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: Yeshua was not spared because he was the provision itself.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: He was the fullness of that.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: And yes, yes.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: Isaac had a brother, but no, the brother was not the one in whom all of the promises were.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: John the Baptist recognized this provision when he saw Yeshua.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Imagine you see he sees Yeshua walking by, and he says, Behold the Lamb of God, the Lamb, not a Lamb, but the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Behold him.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: He is telling us that the fullness of Isaac has arrived.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: The promised son, the unique son has arrived, the one in whom every promise going forward.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Had Isaac died a Moriah, we would not be here today.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Because the promise to Abraham would have ended.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: It was imperative that Abraham moved in faith, walked up that mountain, went to that place where you know what he didn't know what he was, what was going to happen there.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: What was turning back going to look like?
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: You don't know until he turns you back.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: But you got to get to the destination.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: What choice do you have?
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: People are asking me all the time.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: The faith that you have to move forward, what choice do I have?
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: What choice does my wife?
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: We don't have a choice in this.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: We move forward, trusting him.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: That's the end of the story.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: There's no turning back.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Remember the old hymn, I've decided to follow Jesus?
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: And what do we say at it?
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: No turning back.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: Though none go with me, still I will follow.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Though he slay me, I'm adding this, yet will I trust him.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Do I have a choice?
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: No.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: Do you have a choice?
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: You want the good news or the bad news?
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Both is the same.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: No.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: You do not.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Be happy for that.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: It takes a lot of stress off, beloved.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: It takes a lot of stress off.
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: Says, you know what?
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: At the end of the day, I'm not the author of my own story.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: He is.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: The very one who set all of this in motion, the very one who created the beauty of the moon, the sun, the stars, all of the Kukovim, all of the lights, everything that is around us, the breeze, the beauty of the breeze, the beauty of the beauty of the ocean, the one who did that, authored that, spoke that, is the one who's authoring you.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: Can you disagree with the author?
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: In theory, but don't do it in practice.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Doesn't end well.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: This is what happens when he doesn't study his notes.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: The ram of Moriah becomes part of the biblical pattern through which we understand the greater sacrifice of Yeshua.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: See, the gospel doesn't end with sacrifice.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: The gospel does not end in sacrifice.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: The gospel and the beauty of it is revealed through the resurrection.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: And specifically, the return.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: As you watch this.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: As you have seen him go, he will return.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: Abraham said, the lad and I are going up the mountain and we will return.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Where are they going to return to?
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: The very place where they took off from.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Yeshua ascended into glory from the Mount of Olives.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: He's not returning to Central Park.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: He's not returning to the mall in DC.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: He's not returning to anywhere in California.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: Glory to God.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: I love California.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: I've never been there, but hallelujah.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: Try not to offend any listeners.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: He's not returning to any of the places in the world that I'd love to.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: He's returning to the Mount of Olives in one particular city that the nations are currently what?
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: Raging against.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: We want to see if prophecy is real.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: Is prophecy real?
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: Is prophecy happening in this day?
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: Turn on any news station, turn on any podcaster, and what are they doing?
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: We got to get rid of this Israel thing.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: We got to get rid of that.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: That's a problem over there.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: What are they doing?
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: They're thumbing their nose at Messiah, they're thumbing their nose at the Lord.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:29SPEAKER_02: As he ascended, he will return.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: And the beauty is in that.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: The beauty, you know what?
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: And when he returns, guess what?
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Glory to God, I'll have a sabbatical.
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: I've got some to look forward to, Reb Zalman.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: I do.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: But where does the gospel take us now?
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: It leads us to liberty.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: The apostle Paul said this for freedom, Messiah has set you free.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: For freedom, Messiah has set you free.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: Stand firm.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: Underline that in your mind.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: Stand firm.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: Therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: This isn't freedom that allows us to do whatever we want.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: It's not.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: It's a freedom that empowers us to now live for Him.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: As I've said my old ethics professor, it's not the power to do what you want, but the power to do what you ought.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: And as I've said so many times, make sure your ought and your is are in the same place.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: The gospel takes us to freedom, to liberty.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: It's the freedom of the redeemed.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: The Hebrew scriptures give us a beautiful picture of this in Duror, Liberty.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: The proclamation of Jubilee.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: Jubilee was the declaration of release.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: And how is that release announced?
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: Anybody?
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: Anybody?
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Shofar.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: We hear every time not only God's provision, but his release, the announcement of our release.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Where are we living?
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: I've been saying this in reference to men and women in the body of Christ.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: Where are we living?
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: Are we living under a curse or are we living in the renewal?
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: Where are we living?
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: What are we doing?
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: What is the point of that?
- 34:25SPEAKER_02: I gotta hurry this up.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: There's supposed to be a graduation party.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: And I'm not the honored guest.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: I've already done.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: Did I finish high school?
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: It's still debated.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: I gotta move quickly, I'm sorry.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: But this is what Messiah has done for us.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: He has not only forgiven us, he has released us and released us from the shame and the guilt that we so often carry because it's so familiar to us.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: He's given us new life.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: As Paul says, if anyone is in what?
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: In Messiah, he is a what?
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: New creation.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: And then what did he say in five in Galatians 5, 1?
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: Stand firm, don't be moved.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: Don't be moved from it.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Let him do his work, let him do his plan.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: Let him fulfill it.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: The moment you try, we're gonna muck it up.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: That's why we got so many Ishmaels running around.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: Messiah has not set us free so that we return to bondage.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, the the the humor's extra.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: I have no idea, honey.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: I missed it too.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: He's not set us free so we return to bondage.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: He has delivered us.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: He's not delivered us so that we can put our chains back on.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: We pray about that last night.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: He didn't deliver us to put our chains back on.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: We're called to stand in freedom, the freedom that he has given us.
- 35:55SPEAKER_02: Liberty and Messiah is liberty in the Lord, freedom to worship, freedom to obey, freedom to love, freedom to forgive, freedom to serve, freedom to walk in holiness and righteousness.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: That's why we hear the sound because we need to be reminded that we are a free people.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: We remember the Akita, the binding of Isaac.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: We remember the ram caught in the horns.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: They're cheering me on, so I hurry up.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: Remember, remember Abraham's declaration Adana Yira, the Lord will provide.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: And then we look to Messiah, we look to the greater son, we look to the Lamb of God, we look to the cross, we look to the empty tomb.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: The ram, beloved friends, was provided for Isaac.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: Messiah was provided for us.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Isaac was spared, Yeshua was sacrificed.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: Isaac came down the mountain alive, but glory to God.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: Yeshua came up out of the grave alive.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: Yeshua ascended into glory alive.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Yeshua will return from glory alive to take his people.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Friends, we are alive.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: Zechariah declared that the Lord has raised up a horn of salvation in the house of David.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: That long dead house still has a living savior, has a living king, a living Meshiach.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: The promised king has come, the sun has come, the land has been offered, the grave has been conquered.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: O death, where is your sting?
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: Remember to hear the shofar, hear it and remember.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: The Lord has not forgotten his promises.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Would you hold on to that in your heart?
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: He hasn't forgotten his promises.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: He's provided redemption.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: Messiah has set us free, so stand firm.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: Do not return to bondage.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: It's so appealing, but don't do it.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Don't live under condemnation.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: What a horrible place.
- 37:51SPEAKER_02: Don't live under condemnation, which Messiah has delivered you from, set you free from.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: He gave his life so that you would not sit in condemnation.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: For those who are in Christ, there is no condemnation.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: Amen?
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: They get more excited at the masters down in Georgia than you did on that one.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: This is why they don't invite me to fancy dress parties.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Don't live, don't, don't live as if you're still enslaved.
- 38:19SPEAKER_02: Walk in the liberty of Messiah.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: As we enter 5787, let the sound of the shofar awaken these truths, and then I'm done, and we'll hear the shofar.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Adana Yirah, the Lord will provide.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: Dear friends, the horn of salvation has been raised up, the lamb has been offered.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: The sun has been risen.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: And for freedom, Messiah has set us free.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Take that into your heart.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: Take that into your spirit today as we hear the shofar.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Shannotoba.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: Amen.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: Amen.
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: Gotta find my calls here in my super secret rabbi book.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: It's like a decoder ring, only for rabbis.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: It's the same thing.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: I can do it from there too.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: Well, you know what?
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: I know the author of this little Diddy too.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: I want to tell you, he's a super cool guy.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: He's a really he's a nice guy.
- 39:30SPEAKER_02: He's no, he's he just he's 35 and a half.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: Are you right?
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: Who said that?
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: Alright, so prepare our hearts as we as we begin to hear.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the universe who has sanctified us by his word and commanded us to hear the shofar call.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: Omen.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the universe who has given us life, sustained us, and brought us Lisman Chazah to this time, this season.
