- 0:54Speaker 4: and I have both of my co hosts in the building,
- 0:58Speaker 4: Hollis Lewis and Lisa Odie.
- 1:01Speaker 2: How are you too doing today?
- 1:04Speaker 5: Ready for Santa? We're on the countdown now, aren't we.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Actually I don't even have my I don't have my
- 1:12Speaker 2: tree up yet.
- 1:13Speaker 6: You shouldn't even bother now, I mean, yeah, just just
- 1:17Speaker 6: don't even worry about it till next year.
- 1:20Speaker 4: All that we have is all we have is the
- 1:22Speaker 4: is the grandchild that we're getting anything for. And you know, so,
- 1:29Speaker 4: actually I'm I'm I'm going to assume because I'm not
- 1:31Speaker 4: putting it up.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Well, so Donna's putting it up. So when you going
- 1:37Speaker 2: to your son's house, I'm going to end up going
- 1:38Speaker 2: to my son's house. I'm also just.
- 1:40Speaker 5: Leaving the building.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Well see we we actually got a small tree now,
- 1:45Speaker 4: so it's one of those that you can just pick
- 1:47Speaker 4: it up, sit it away and it's all good. Well see,
- 1:57Speaker 4: I don't, but but I love Christmas and I love
- 2:00Speaker 4: all of the things that go around it.
- 2:03Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:03Speaker 5: It's just so you don't it enough to put a
- 2:05Speaker 5: tree up.
- 2:07Speaker 2: That's not my job.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Though he went there.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I did go there. That's that's job. She's she slipped.
- 2:19Speaker 5: It, Donna. I hope you hear all of this.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Hopefully she's not gonna catch this show, all right. So man,
- 2:29Speaker 4: we got some crazy some some some crazy stuff.
- 2:33Speaker 6: That's that's crazy, all right.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So I will stay local here. Right right from the.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Start, we've got a coach mm hmm.
- 2:52Speaker 2: South Charleston Capital, I mean capital. I'm sorry that is leaving.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Second time?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Right, second time? Correct? Right? Right? That's the fact. Wow,
- 3:09Speaker 2: why why come back if you're going to leave again?
- 3:12Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 3:14Speaker 4: I mean, is there any has there been any conversation
- 3:18Speaker 4: about like why not yet, just that he's that he
- 3:23Speaker 4: that he's leaving. Yeah, I mean I haven't heard anything directly,
- 3:27Speaker 4: only the coach carp Yeah, coach cart John Carpenter. What
- 3:32Speaker 4: I can assume, it's just like, you know, just the
- 3:34Speaker 4: nature of coaching has just changed, man, just with the
- 3:38Speaker 4: the mobility that players now have to go from school
- 3:42Speaker 4: to school, you're not in a situation where you can
- 3:45Speaker 4: collect talent like you once did, and your job as
- 3:50Speaker 4: a head coach is now just a little different because
- 3:52Speaker 4: you're not only do you have to quote unquote recruit
- 3:57Speaker 4: you know, players from the lower levels coming into the program,
- 4:02Speaker 4: but you need to recruit your locker room. So I
- 4:04Speaker 4: think the nature of you just going in coaching discipline,
- 4:08Speaker 4: those sort of things that we grew up on that
- 4:11Speaker 4: a coach was, it's not necessarily that anymore. From the
- 4:14Speaker 4: head coaching standpoint, your job is just markedly different. So
- 4:18Speaker 4: now you're almost just like a figurehead your recruiter, but
- 4:22Speaker 4: you still have to manage the program. So again, if
- 4:25Speaker 4: you didn't step into that, that's not what you signed
- 4:28Speaker 4: up for. I could see while it's not for you,
- 4:31Speaker 4: although you still may have the love for the occupation.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 6: And also, I mean, let's just face it, the compensation
- 4:37Speaker 6: is just it's not there, and it's a lot of
- 4:41Speaker 6: work for a little bit of money.
- 4:42Speaker 5: You really have to love what you do.
- 4:46Speaker 6: There's just so many other things that you could do
- 4:49Speaker 6: with your time unless you you know, you get so
- 4:52Speaker 6: deep into this, and I think you alluded to this earlier,
- 4:56Speaker 6: hollis about the middle schools. You can't depend on your
- 4:59Speaker 6: player coming from your feeder schools because they can choose
- 5:03Speaker 6: any high school they want to go to. So you
- 5:05Speaker 6: don't know what you're gonna get from year to year,
- 5:07Speaker 6: and that makes it even more challenging. But seriously, if
- 5:10Speaker 6: they're going to put more and more on these head
- 5:13Speaker 6: coaches at the high school level, they need to consider
- 5:15Speaker 6: more compensation for what they do for their time one
- 5:18Speaker 6: hundred percent.
- 5:19Speaker 4: And to put it specifically, when you talk about that compensation,
- 5:23Speaker 4: it's forty five hundred dollars yeah. Year. And what people
- 5:26Speaker 4: don't understand, not just for football, for any of these
- 5:30Speaker 4: coaches out here, you're not only coaching in the season.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So in the season you may.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Spend, in addition to your day job and coaching, you
- 5:37Speaker 4: may be working you know, one hundred hours.
- 5:39Speaker 5: That way, Oh sure, right, every dead up.
- 5:41Speaker 4: And then you're working in the off season with quote
- 5:44Speaker 4: unquote recruitment. I'm not sam recruitment, but quote unquote recruitment.
- 5:48Speaker 4: And you still have to have an off season program.
- 5:50Speaker 4: You still have the flex weeks during the summer, so
- 5:53Speaker 4: you're spending a new more amount of time doing that,
- 5:58Speaker 4: trying to be good, trying to coach kids, trying to
- 6:00Speaker 4: be a mentor. And the compensation, like you said, this
- 6:03Speaker 4: just doesn't add up. I mean because and and I'll
- 6:06Speaker 4: let you go, but even capitalists form a basketball coach.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Matt Green.
- 6:12Speaker 4: One of the reasons I and again it's just my
- 6:14Speaker 4: conjecture he went to a different occupation because again he's
- 6:18Speaker 4: spending all that time doing this, and you're just not
- 6:21Speaker 4: being compensated to somewhere as adequate. And I can I
- 6:27Speaker 4: can speak for me, and I'm gonna and I think
- 6:30Speaker 4: this will fit a lot of coaches when you hear
- 6:36Speaker 4: the amount of what what you're getting paid, I think
- 6:41Speaker 4: in your in your thoughts, Okay, I'm not worried about that.
- 6:45Speaker 4: That's that's not necessarily the issue. I really want to
- 6:48Speaker 4: make sure I can I can bring this team along.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I can, I can work with these kids. I can
- 6:54Speaker 4: do these kinds of things. And I hate to say this,
- 6:59Speaker 4: but some of the problem you can be created by
- 7:04Speaker 4: the parent of a good of a kid who's a
- 7:07Speaker 4: talented kid because of the actual reality of playing at
- 7:13Speaker 4: a team that's winning. Everybody wants to play at a
- 7:16Speaker 4: team that's winning. But at some point in time, you
- 7:20Speaker 4: gotta play. I mean, you're gonna you gotta play where
- 7:22Speaker 4: you are and accept that reality because it is again
- 7:26Speaker 4: the life lessons that you get in sports.
- 7:29Speaker 2: That's just not the reality.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I know, I understand what you're saying, but we can't
- 7:33Speaker 4: keep saying that because it's just not But but I cannot.
- 7:37Speaker 4: For me, okay, for me, I can't look at it to.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Be just about the money, just about winning. I can't.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I mean, And but parents would argue and say, well,
- 7:52Speaker 4: it's not about that, it's about opportunity, it's about fairness.
- 7:56Speaker 4: They're gonna come up with any thing that would justify
- 8:00Speaker 4: doing whatever they want to do. So I don't make
- 8:02Speaker 4: it right. I ain't saying to make it right, but
- 8:04Speaker 4: I'm saying they can come up. They can counter your
- 8:06Speaker 4: argument with a number of different ways. So I'm saying
- 8:09Speaker 4: from a coaching standpoint, if I because again we gotta
- 8:14Speaker 4: parents have always kind of been an issue, and then
- 8:16Speaker 4: in the background that's not that's been since the beginning
- 8:19Speaker 4: of high school sports, but since we made it an
- 8:21Speaker 4: important thing, there's always been a parent, a loudmouth da
- 8:24Speaker 4: da da da da. Now the problem is not only
- 8:27Speaker 4: I do it. I gotta deal with the parent, but
- 8:29Speaker 4: I also got to deal with the reality that if
- 8:31Speaker 4: I don't appease this parent and this kid, now, my
- 8:35Speaker 4: talent's gonna walk out the door. And you to your point,
- 8:38Speaker 4: if you have that talented kid, not only is he
- 8:41Speaker 4: gonna walk out the door, he probably gonna take two
- 8:43Speaker 4: or three of his buddies with h So now I
- 8:45Speaker 4: may lose the talented kid, I may lose depth. So
- 8:48Speaker 4: it's like, and to Lisa's point, if I'm not being
- 8:51Speaker 4: compensated adequately, what is the point of me doing this?
- 8:56Speaker 6: Yeah, and here's another point to go with the commons.
- 9:00Speaker 5: A lot of the coaches we know this.
- 9:02Speaker 6: I mean some are retired people, but also a lot
- 9:05Speaker 6: of them are are their day job is teaching and
- 9:07Speaker 6: so that that is their income for their their family
- 9:11Speaker 6: to be able to pay the bills, and and a
- 9:14Speaker 6: lot of teachers, a lot of male teachers, I'm female.
- 9:16Speaker 6: Two take second jobs just to be able to make
- 9:20Speaker 6: it from day to day to pay their bills, take
- 9:22Speaker 6: care of their families. And if they're having to spend
- 9:25Speaker 6: all their time after work doing a job that they're
- 9:28Speaker 6: not compensated for, I mean that that that's a big sacrifice.
- 9:33Speaker 2: And then you got to deal with everything and deal.
- 9:35Speaker 5: With everything else.
- 9:36Speaker 4: I mean, and for me, I just don't.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I don't see.
- 9:46Speaker 4: I don't see free money, whether it be high school
- 9:51Speaker 4: or college, to be paid out to athletes.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Now what I will say, I will I would agree to.
- 10:00Speaker 4: A systematical structure of let's say Hollis is the best
- 10:05Speaker 4: player on my team and there are two other quarterbacks.
- 10:13Speaker 4: If you're a quarterback, you're the starter, you get just
- 10:18Speaker 4: as a hypothetical, you get ten dollars.
- 10:21Speaker 2: The other ones, the other two get five.
- 10:24Speaker 4: To me, it should be it's not like Hollis can
- 10:27Speaker 4: come in negotiate with me like he is a pro athlete.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Like, I just don't that's reality.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Now I do, I realize it's reality. I'm just I'm
- 10:38Speaker 2: just saying I'm.
- 10:40Speaker 4: The dude who's who who doesn't like it? And I'm
- 10:46Speaker 4: pushing a rock uphill. I believe that.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I believe that, and I know no one's going to
- 10:50Speaker 2: really listen to me.
- 10:50Speaker 4: But even if they agree, we I understand that we
- 10:54Speaker 4: don't have a chance of getting that kind of a structure.
- 11:00Speaker 4: But sooner or later, the state of West Virginia is
- 11:05Speaker 4: not going to pay to pay these players the money
- 11:11Speaker 4: they're going to be.
- 11:12Speaker 2: We're not talking about pay pay.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Players aren't necessarily getting paid to a to a large
- 11:18Speaker 4: clip now. And if they are getting paid, this from
- 11:19Speaker 4: outside sources, not a state thing. The problem is is
- 11:23Speaker 4: that if I'm a coach and I gotta deal with
- 11:26Speaker 4: all this, I need to be getting paid. We need
- 11:29Speaker 4: to pay the coaches more. I'm getting the money.
- 11:33Speaker 5: I'm making a full time job. I mean I don't
- 11:36Speaker 5: even have to teach.
- 11:37Speaker 6: I mean that that is a full time position in
- 11:39Speaker 6: whatever county district.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Now.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Work a problem with that, though.
- 11:43Speaker 4: The problem with it, I know where you're say it's
- 11:46Speaker 4: going to come into Title nine issues because now it's
- 11:48Speaker 4: going to be a specifically women's sports coaches who are
- 11:52Speaker 4: gonna say, well, I need to be full time and
- 11:55Speaker 4: we know that state can't afford to pay all the
- 11:57Speaker 4: coaches full time. So my proposal is that you pick
- 12:02Speaker 4: out two coaches, so one coach from one sport and
- 12:06Speaker 4: one coach from the other sport. You make those coaches
- 12:09Speaker 4: full time employees. So you know, maybe in a perfect world,
- 12:14Speaker 4: be a coach from a god sport, coach from a
- 12:16Speaker 4: women's sport, right.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Each school, at each school. Okay, and hold up here,
- 12:21Speaker 2: here's what it be though.
- 12:23Speaker 4: You would your your your primary job would be to coach,
- 12:27Speaker 4: would be to raise money, work alongside the a D.
- 12:31Speaker 4: And then in addition, you would be responsible for substitute duties.
- 12:36Speaker 4: So now that school, if a teacher's out, they don't
- 12:40Speaker 4: have to call another substitute. You would already have two
- 12:44Speaker 4: in the building, so you would handle substitute duties when
- 12:48Speaker 4: you could disciplinary issues, coaching and helping the a D.
- 12:52Speaker 4: That that would be my proposal, and you would.
- 12:55Speaker 5: Just have high school. Would they would sub every day? Yes,
- 12:58Speaker 5: I'm telling you I mean, and that would take away
- 13:00Speaker 5: from their time to do their job.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Though, right, what I'm saying and what makes what I
- 13:05Speaker 4: say you you can't just be like because you're not
- 13:08Speaker 4: gonna like coach football for eight hours in a day
- 13:10Speaker 4: and then coach in the evening. So there's gonna be
- 13:13Speaker 4: sometimes I'm not saying you coach, excuse me, sub every day,
- 13:17Speaker 4: but that would just be part of it.
- 13:18Speaker 5: They can't find.
- 13:21Speaker 4: What if you can't sell, what if you've not ever
- 13:24Speaker 4: been a teacher, you've just been You have to get
- 13:26Speaker 4: all those licenses and everything. Anybody can sub. You can
- 13:29Speaker 4: sub right now a long as you go take the
- 13:30Speaker 4: class sign up. Anybody can sub, as long as you
- 13:33Speaker 4: don't have a criminal record. But what I'm saying is
- 13:36Speaker 4: I think that's a way to justify that because we
- 13:38Speaker 4: can't because in the state of West Virginia, you can't
- 13:40Speaker 4: just say, Okay, here's a football coach, We're gonna pay
- 13:42Speaker 4: you sixty seven thousand dollars.
- 13:44Speaker 2: That's not a reality of where we're at now, we're
- 13:46Speaker 2: not Texas.
- 13:47Speaker 4: But but can we get to like an actual pay,
- 13:51Speaker 4: like something that's an actual adult who gets paid a year.
- 13:55Speaker 4: But again, your problem is is not not necessarily that's
- 13:58Speaker 4: we probably can, but you can't afford to pay every
- 14:01Speaker 4: coach because now every coach from every sport would wanted
- 14:05Speaker 4: some conversation.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Okay, and I understand that, but.
- 14:09Speaker 4: If if you rank football as your biggest money maker.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Okay, I think you can.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Okay, so football, basketball, so that's girls and boys, basketball, track, baseball,
- 14:29Speaker 4: whatever that is.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Everybody has a structure.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Because football is going to bring in more money for
- 14:36Speaker 4: most schools anywhere.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but you can't.
- 14:40Speaker 4: But the thing is football is always going to be
- 14:42Speaker 4: that I understand.
- 14:46Speaker 6: So let me ask you, guys, this why you go
- 14:48Speaker 6: down this rabbit hole. If if the boosters, let's say
- 14:52Speaker 6: you're at a specific high school and the boosters raise
- 14:55Speaker 6: money and concession stands and car washes, can they compensate
- 14:59Speaker 6: the coach in addition to what they're being paid by
- 15:01Speaker 6: the county?
- 15:02Speaker 5: Is that legal?
- 15:03Speaker 2: That's a good question. And I do not have the
- 15:05Speaker 2: answer to that.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Isn't want to solve.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Like so again, you have an.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Inner city school, poor community or rural community first an
- 15:15Speaker 4: affluent community, then that creates an unfair advantage.
- 15:19Speaker 5: That's true, But it happens at the collegiate level.
- 15:23Speaker 4: That's not you're talking about college. I mean, high school
- 15:25Speaker 4: is a little different, so our rules is different in college.
- 15:28Speaker 4: And I think, but here's the thing to every every
- 15:34Speaker 4: point or every effort that we that we put out,
- 15:39Speaker 4: we still have these restrictions or these situations that are
- 15:45Speaker 4: you can't really do that, and you know and and
- 15:48Speaker 4: so you have all this you can't do this, but
- 15:53Speaker 4: you but but you need to fix But I think
- 15:55Speaker 4: you just have to make it equitable. That's why I
- 15:57Speaker 4: would say, essentially, you just pick a men's and a
- 16:00Speaker 4: women's sports coach and make them full time employees and
- 16:05Speaker 4: they would have other duties in addition to their coaching duties.
- 16:08Speaker 2: But I don't think it can be I should.
- 16:10Speaker 6: I don't know where they would get the funding for that,
- 16:12Speaker 6: first of all, counting.
- 16:13Speaker 4: I mean, if you think about what they pay a
- 16:16Speaker 4: substitute every day, or you think about what that make.
- 16:20Speaker 4: In addition, one of y'all got to be the a
- 16:21Speaker 4: D cut the AD position out. So I'm just saying,
- 16:25Speaker 4: it's like, I think there is a fix. We got
- 16:27Speaker 4: to be creative. But to your point, but and again,
- 16:31Speaker 4: that's not even a fair fix, because other coaches will say, well,
- 16:35Speaker 4: that's not fair because again football coaches. Football coach generally
- 16:40Speaker 4: is always going to get their job unless you don't
- 16:42Speaker 4: have a football team. And if you're the baseball team
- 16:44Speaker 4: or the track team, and you have a historically good team,
- 16:47Speaker 4: you can say, well I deserve that, not them, because
- 16:50Speaker 4: my team is we're always winning championships. Cause you know,
- 16:53Speaker 4: like I know, even if you got a quote unquote
- 16:57Speaker 4: not very good football team, generally they're gonna make more
- 17:01Speaker 4: money than if you have an all world track team,
- 17:05Speaker 4: right because football is generally from the college level down,
- 17:09Speaker 4: is the sport that makes money. Everybody else generally loses money.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Besides women's basketball and men's basketball.
- 17:15Speaker 6: I think just to start is just a double. Maybe
- 17:18Speaker 6: they're stipend, maybe that's maybe that's I mean, just to
- 17:22Speaker 6: start and then you know, I think what you're saying
- 17:24Speaker 6: is is is a great proposal. But that's the funding
- 17:28Speaker 6: in public schools right now is you know every year
- 17:30Speaker 6: it goes down with we know where it.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Can come from. But we're gonna get political.
- 17:34Speaker 5: Right right, right, right, right right right. Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 4: But but all we with with all of that and
- 17:41Speaker 4: you all secrets, okay.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Not to talk about.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Well you just don't go there.
- 17:50Speaker 4: And I'm not even going to push that. But what
- 17:53Speaker 4: I'll say is for me, I'm looking I'm looking at
- 17:57Speaker 4: trying to get the best for the for the kids
- 18:02Speaker 4: that are playing.
- 18:05Speaker 2: They need, they need a coach card.
- 18:07Speaker 4: You know they need a coach that's going to be
- 18:10Speaker 4: out there, that's going to be.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Back the experience, want.
- 18:15Speaker 4: The best from them, not just football, but academically and
- 18:18Speaker 4: all of the whole thing. We're getting to a point
- 18:22Speaker 4: where are we just going to like just give anybody
- 18:26Speaker 4: that four thousand dollars and say, hey, go with I
- 18:29Speaker 4: think the young man who got who I think who
- 18:31Speaker 4: we think got the position Terran rush I think he's
- 18:34Speaker 4: going to be able to do a phenomenal job. He's
- 18:37Speaker 4: integrated hisself into the community, he relates to the young man.
- 18:41Speaker 2: So he'll do it. He'll do a fabulous job.
- 18:44Speaker 4: But even even to that point, Hell, the parents they
- 18:47Speaker 4: know everything, so let them deal with you know everything.
- 18:51Speaker 2: So you got it. We don't need coaches no more.
- 18:55Speaker 2: We got parents, and yeah we're all good.
- 18:58Speaker 5: See to your point knocking for language.
- 19:01Speaker 4: To your to your point, you've got you can't say
- 19:08Speaker 4: as a parent, when you get a new coach, you're
- 19:12Speaker 4: happy for a day and a half, and then as
- 19:15Speaker 4: soon as the very first practice, the very first game
- 19:18Speaker 4: shows up and you lose or or you don't have
- 19:22Speaker 4: that many kids on the team, how do you turn
- 19:26Speaker 4: around and say that's the coach's issue.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I don't know, you know what I'm saying.
- 19:30Speaker 4: I feel like, I just feel like, if you're going
- 19:33Speaker 4: to be a parent and you've got a kid that's
- 19:36Speaker 4: playing on a team that is not successful and not
- 19:40Speaker 4: successful because coach, because coaches, coaches come and coaches go,
- 19:46Speaker 4: and the record still says the same, that's because of
- 19:49Speaker 4: the kids. That's not you know, that's I disagree with that.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I disagree with that.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Coach. It makes a difference. I believe it makes a difference.
- 19:58Speaker 4: But coach makes a huge I agree with you. But okay,
- 20:04Speaker 4: but you've got to have players to play.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 4: But I think even if we seem like an example
- 20:11Speaker 4: of Steve Edwards and GW you got one feet of schools,
- 20:13Speaker 4: he's done it for almost thirty years and while he
- 20:17Speaker 4: hasn't won a state championship, he's been to multiple state
- 20:19Speaker 4: championships and been a consistent playoff team since two thousand.
- 20:24Speaker 4: Coaching is what makes it. I am not taking anything
- 20:28Speaker 4: from him, but you have a you have a community
- 20:32Speaker 4: that is a solid community that that kids are coming.
- 20:36Speaker 2: He had that community.
- 20:37Speaker 4: That community was there from nineteen eighty five to nineteen
- 20:41Speaker 4: ninety nine, and they was losing all that time.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I'm not trying to take.
- 20:45Speaker 4: But he's going he's going to he's going to come in,
- 20:49Speaker 4: he's going to change the structure. He's gonna he has
- 20:53Speaker 4: probably a thousand, a thousand times better I of what
- 21:00Speaker 4: this team can do then probably any coach anywhere else.
- 21:03Speaker 2: That's all catch that's coloot.
- 21:06Speaker 4: But but he's going to get his community to show up.
- 21:12Speaker 2: He's going to get that.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Community to shah.
- 21:14Speaker 2: It's coaching. Coach makes the difference.
- 21:17Speaker 6: He's also going to bring in the players from other
- 21:20Speaker 6: areas parts of the county just for the fact that
- 21:23Speaker 6: the educational opportunity that those students are given there to
- 21:27Speaker 6: compared to some other high schools.
- 21:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's part of the package.
- 21:30Speaker 6: I mean, that's that's a great you know, one of
- 21:33Speaker 6: the blue ribbon schools of the state.
- 21:35Speaker 4: And I can't and and and but I got to
- 21:38Speaker 4: fight with him first. Here's here's here's my here's my
- 21:43Speaker 4: concern with that when you say that Capital Charleston High
- 21:51Speaker 4: has been an area of.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Success in in sports.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Coach after coach after coach after coach after coach. Now
- 22:05Speaker 4: all of a sudden, because of the structure that's in
- 22:11Speaker 4: sports you can take that coach whoever he is, and
- 22:19Speaker 4: he can't hold on to kids because whether they don't
- 22:25Speaker 4: like it, they don't like the screaming, they don't like
- 22:27Speaker 4: the running, they don't.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Like any of that kind of stuff, and they're gonna
- 22:31Speaker 2: go somewhere else.
- 22:33Speaker 4: That's how you end up falling to the bottom and
- 22:37Speaker 4: not having it.
- 22:38Speaker 2: And where do I want to go?
- 22:39Speaker 4: You got I'm I'm gonna go to I'm gonna go
- 22:42Speaker 4: to to to to coach at which.
- 22:43Speaker 2: And I'm not taking from his great day.
- 22:46Speaker 4: You have to have a coach who can adjust to
- 22:48Speaker 4: the times. Just like prior to coach Edwards, that's that
- 22:53Speaker 4: was a football was not even looked at it. It
- 22:56Speaker 4: was all basketball and we were a sideshow far as
- 22:59Speaker 4: the football team. But just you articulated, he got into
- 23:02Speaker 4: the community, he made it work and the rest is history.
- 23:05Speaker 4: So if you're looking at like a Capitol coach, which
- 23:07Speaker 4: I think Aran will do a good job, it's your
- 23:10Speaker 4: job to get into the community, figure out what's broken,
- 23:13Speaker 4: try to fix it. And you got to start at
- 23:14Speaker 4: the community level. Bring that to the practice field and
- 23:17Speaker 4: then you'll be off. So again it's about coaching. Now
- 23:21Speaker 4: you again.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Player you have to have talent, that's part. We all
- 23:25Speaker 2: know that.
- 23:26Speaker 4: But to your point, if you want to keep those players,
- 23:29Speaker 4: if you want to bring in other players for different communities,
- 23:32Speaker 4: that takes the centerpiece of the coach to put all
- 23:35Speaker 4: that together and and be that that peg to to
- 23:40Speaker 4: hold that community up for whatever face it is is.
- 23:42Speaker 4: It's about coaching.
- 23:44Speaker 6: And the coach also has to understand that this is
- 23:46Speaker 6: a this is a new age athlete. This this athlete
- 23:50Speaker 6: is not only You're not only competing for them on
- 23:52Speaker 6: the field, You're competing with social media. You're competing with uh,
- 23:57Speaker 6: you know at the collegiate level in IL.
- 23:59Speaker 5: I mean, they're aware of everything. It's not like whenever.
- 24:02Speaker 6: These high school kids twenty years ago didn't have access
- 24:05Speaker 6: to all this.
- 24:06Speaker 5: So whoever comes in and.
- 24:08Speaker 6: Coaches these students, they they have to understand this is
- 24:11Speaker 6: a whole different world and they have to they have
- 24:13Speaker 6: to adapt to it.
- 24:14Speaker 2: That's why I think Taran is gonna be perfect for this.
- 24:16Speaker 5: He's young, right, yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Yeah, And speaking of new age, we got a we
- 24:21Speaker 4: had a boxing there. Yeah, oh so Jake Paul. He
- 24:28Speaker 4: took on Joshua Anthony, former heavyweight champ. We also had
- 24:33Speaker 4: some good undercards. You had Anderson the Spider Silver ucf
- 24:37Speaker 4: ucf UFC Legend. You had Alicia the bomb Bumgardner, she
- 24:43Speaker 4: defended her title in the decision, and my man Jake
- 24:48Speaker 4: Paul finally, I think he finally had a quote unquote
- 24:52Speaker 4: real boxing match. And he took one to the jar
- 24:54Speaker 4: and it got and it got broke.
- 24:57Speaker 5: In more than one place. Actually, Yeah, Like.
- 25:03Speaker 4: If there's a sport that I'm not going to just
- 25:06Speaker 4: jump in and.
- 25:07Speaker 2: And assume that.
- 25:12Speaker 4: No, no, no, that's you can't experiment in the boxing
- 25:20Speaker 4: and get in the ring now and and again, Hollis,
- 25:23Speaker 4: I think we were talking a little bit before the show.
- 25:28Speaker 4: I think the fights that he has had before, Paul,
- 25:33Speaker 4: I don't know if they were like quote real, I
- 25:38Speaker 4: think like I think it was just it almost seemed
- 25:42Speaker 4: like the boxing was looking for a new star and
- 25:45Speaker 4: and they and they wanted to maybe start with him
- 25:48Speaker 4: coming up through the ranks. But if you're not a
- 25:53Speaker 4: boxer and you want to jump into a ring with
- 25:56Speaker 4: a boxer.
- 25:58Speaker 6: Ye.
- 25:59Speaker 2: You you're you're in.
- 26:01Speaker 6: You're in trouble, and you're gonna be on a liquid
- 26:03Speaker 6: die a little bit like and.
- 26:06Speaker 4: And this fight was that understanding of Okay, maybe I'm
- 26:12Speaker 4: not a boxer. Yeah, and again he's quote unquote had
- 26:16Speaker 4: fights or exhibitions with like Floyd Madwether, Mike Tyson, a
- 26:19Speaker 4: couple of UFC guys. But I, like you said, I
- 26:22Speaker 4: think this was the real deal.
- 26:25Speaker 6: You know.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I think Anthony probably just you know, he wanted to
- 26:29Speaker 4: give the crowd something that I think he knocked him
- 26:31Speaker 4: out in the fourth round. But overall, like I said,
- 26:33Speaker 4: I think, you know, it's that old adage like all
- 26:37Speaker 4: publicity's good publicity, which.
- 26:40Speaker 2: I don't think that's true. I don't. I don't think,
- 26:42Speaker 2: you know.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Especially if you're a boxing purist like we said in
- 26:46Speaker 6: the in the in there, I mean, nobody wants to
- 26:48Speaker 6: if you're really a real boxing fan like you say
- 26:51Speaker 6: you are, girl, you don't want a gimmicky fight like no,
- 26:54Speaker 6: that takes away from it.
- 26:56Speaker 2: I don't want to.
- 26:56Speaker 4: I don't want to hear about Jake Paul's life over here.
- 27:02Speaker 4: I want to hear about how many fights has he had,
- 27:04Speaker 4: who did he beat?
- 27:06Speaker 2: Legitimate fights? I want to I want to see that.
- 27:10Speaker 4: And he's fighting just the most notable people for the
- 27:16Speaker 4: most money.
- 27:17Speaker 2: That is not even.
- 27:19Speaker 5: Do you know how much. It was like three million, and.
- 27:25Speaker 2: I think that's probably you can break.
- 27:30Speaker 4: And I think that is Christmas and I think that's
- 27:33Speaker 4: the silver lining, right. The silver lining is that maybe
- 27:37Speaker 4: you know, Paul turns into a promoter because he did
- 27:40Speaker 4: bring boxing to Netflix. Ain't gonna say he brought it
- 27:42Speaker 4: to Netflix, but he made a prominent on Netflix where
- 27:45Speaker 4: they're a major player. So hopefully we can get some
- 27:48Speaker 4: legitimate fights, because I think to the sport, it does
- 27:51Speaker 4: do damage to the sport when you have your top
- 27:54Speaker 4: ranked athletes going against these hoky you know, exhibition fights,
- 27:59Speaker 4: because I wanted to see like Anthony and Tyson Furial,
- 28:02Speaker 4: Anthony and Deontay Water, Tank Davis or you know some
- 28:08Speaker 4: of the legitimate guys.
- 28:10Speaker 2: You know, how did and so help me with this?
- 28:13Speaker 4: How did those names get jumped over ignored? And you
- 28:19Speaker 4: get Jake Paul in there. I mean, because he's a draw.
- 28:22Speaker 4: He's the money guy. You're not making that ninety whatever.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Million, Yeah, those other guys.
- 28:27Speaker 4: So it's it's about money because the other part of that,
- 28:31Speaker 4: if I'm going to get hitting the head for a living,
- 28:33Speaker 4: I want to make the most money possible. So it's
- 28:37Speaker 4: like if I got to fight this hoky exhibition, then
- 28:40Speaker 4: I'll just do that to you know.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Cash out.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Do you think he's done, Paul, I think the legitimate,
- 28:48Speaker 4: I think the novelty of its worn off. I hope
- 28:50Speaker 4: what can happen though, because here's a good thing about
- 28:52Speaker 4: what he what he does in all seriousness, now we
- 28:55Speaker 4: know that between him and the other fights, but he
- 28:57Speaker 4: has a bunch of undercars that are legitimate, right, so
- 29:00Speaker 4: we got to see and this and the Spider Silver,
- 29:02Speaker 4: we got to see Alicia Bumgardner. We got to see
- 29:03Speaker 4: those legitimate fights make real brain on prime time TV.
- 29:08Speaker 4: So I think that's what he does great. So hopefully
- 29:11Speaker 4: he can he can flip this into you know, being
- 29:15Speaker 4: a promoter and being and actually bringing boxing back.
- 29:18Speaker 5: To to where it's going to be this kind of box.
- 29:20Speaker 2: But that's what I'm saying. I hope it's not.
- 29:22Speaker 4: And I think boxing has got to do something about
- 29:25Speaker 4: Number one, it's timing, and we don't want to sit
- 29:28Speaker 4: necessarily and watch like five hours of undercards, you know
- 29:32Speaker 4: what I'm saying, kind of like give us three three
- 29:35Speaker 4: quality bouts. Pit it at the the you know, the
- 29:38Speaker 4: main event maybe at eight.
- 29:39Speaker 2: O'clock, nine o'clock, not eleven, you know, because East Coast
- 29:42Speaker 2: it really kills you.
- 29:43Speaker 4: You up at twelve o'clock trying to watch I'm like
- 29:46Speaker 4: you halfway falling asleep, and you gotta take a nap.
- 29:49Speaker 2: You gotta plan your day around today.
- 29:52Speaker 6: That's because we're senior citizens.
- 29:55Speaker 4: And I think too, like you know, when when you
- 29:59Speaker 4: start looking at like who's going to be on the card,
- 30:05Speaker 4: the lack of promotion of some of these boxers hurts
- 30:12Speaker 4: the boxing structure as a whole because back in the day,
- 30:17Speaker 4: you knew, you knew almost somebody on each one of
- 30:20Speaker 4: the cards, heavyweight, light weight, and you you knew one
- 30:25Speaker 4: of the boxers really well.
- 30:27Speaker 2: You got to feel the card. Yeah, you can't. You
- 30:30Speaker 2: can't go out there and just put Joe.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Blow and and and and Freddy going against each other.
- 30:37Speaker 4: And again I think I think with this, with this
- 30:39Speaker 4: one in particular, he did a good job of doing that.
- 30:42Speaker 4: I mean, some of the people, if you don't know it,
- 30:44Speaker 4: you may not know him. But like I said, and
- 30:47Speaker 4: as in the Spider Sivil, Lashia, Bumguard, if you knew
- 30:49Speaker 4: those names, like if you're familiar with combat sports, you
- 30:51Speaker 4: know those names, right, but they don't. But to your point,
- 30:55Speaker 4: I think boxing definitely has to do something about establishing
- 30:58Speaker 4: that crossover pill like it once had, because we need boxers,
- 31:02Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, Like, we need boxers, not
- 31:06Speaker 4: somebody that's doing something else.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want to show.
- 31:08Speaker 4: I want guys who are trying to come up trying
- 31:12Speaker 4: to win the heavyweight championship, the lightweight championship, Like I
- 31:16Speaker 4: want guys to be doing that, like that's what they do.
- 31:21Speaker 2: They do.
- 31:21Speaker 4: They're not coming in from another sport and jumping in
- 31:25Speaker 4: to the ring and trying to win.
- 31:26Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I mean, here's just an example
- 31:28Speaker 6: of we knew what was going to happen because you know,
- 31:32Speaker 6: the official way in for the for the boxing for
- 31:35Speaker 6: the event, Joshua towered five inches above his opponent that
- 31:40Speaker 6: weighed almost thirty pounds more than him. So what did
- 31:44Speaker 6: you expect to have happened when they got in the ring?
- 31:46Speaker 5: Right?
- 31:46Speaker 2: Good point? Yes? And okay, so and again, how do
- 31:50Speaker 2: you how was that a fight? How was that?
- 31:54Speaker 4: You're not even you're not even in that, You're not close,
- 31:57Speaker 4: you're not even close to that weight limit. Like so
- 32:01Speaker 4: you you can't be a heavyweight. You're not a heavyweight
- 32:04Speaker 4: you're fighting a heavyweight.
- 32:05Speaker 6: I mean, this guy didn't he box in the Olympics
- 32:08Speaker 6: at one point, Like he's just a renowned anthony.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he's a heavyweight chair.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I thought. And then you know, here
- 32:15Speaker 5: comes in and you look.
- 32:16Speaker 2: At him stand side by side, and I mean it's crazy.
- 32:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Well, we're gonna take a quick break and we'll be
- 32:22Speaker 2: right back.
- 32:23Speaker 7: Let's face it, bad things happen to good people seriously

- 33:19Speaker 3: the conversation.
- 33:20Speaker 4: All right, we're back well speaking of speaking of an
- 33:23Speaker 4: in balanced matchups. Yeah, so we had the college football
- 33:26Speaker 4: playoffs this week in the first round, so you had
- 33:28Speaker 4: JMU Tulane both taking some some pretty big wolpings. There's
- 33:35Speaker 4: some talks about whether they should have should not got in,
- 33:39Speaker 4: but I like it. You give the little guys a chance.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Now again, jam you would they had to travel to Oregon.
- 33:45Speaker 4: That was a tough call. Uh, Tulane going to Mississippi,
- 33:49Speaker 4: Oh Miss. You know again, I think oh Miss is
- 33:52Speaker 4: playing with a little chip on the shoulder.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:54Speaker 4: So do you think they should have let like Miami
- 33:59Speaker 4: and the other schools in possibly or this was the
- 34:01Speaker 4: right call?
- 34:02Speaker 5: I mean, I think it was the right call.
- 34:04Speaker 6: You've got to you've got to give a little bit
- 34:06Speaker 6: of motivation to those Power five schools, you know, to
- 34:10Speaker 6: give them hope that they.
- 34:11Speaker 5: Can make the playoff, you know, and Jay and you
- 34:14Speaker 5: you know that they didn't. They weren't.
- 34:16Speaker 6: It wasn't as horrible of a loss for them as
- 34:18Speaker 6: it was for for Tulane. I mean, I feel like
- 34:20Speaker 6: Tulane just got blown out of the water forty one
- 34:22Speaker 6: to ten, But you know, fifty one to thirty four,
- 34:25Speaker 6: that's respectable. I mean they're with their offense. The offense
- 34:29Speaker 6: was you know, they did a decent job. It was
- 34:31Speaker 6: the defense. I mean in order tough road trip.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're going to cross the country.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that's like's I mean, even if it was like
- 34:39Speaker 4: a Power five equally situated school, I think that's just
- 34:42Speaker 4: a tough task for anybody.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, December going across the country playing a roll game.
- 34:46Speaker 2: See what? What's what? What? What bothers me is like
- 34:53Speaker 2: either you have.
- 34:55Speaker 4: I mean, it's clear to see who's a better team.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Like and in some of this structure, you're you're looking
- 35:03Speaker 4: at a team that you already are when you're already
- 35:06Speaker 4: looking at it saying Okay, I wonder how bad this
- 35:08Speaker 4: score is gonna be.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Yeah, something's wrong with that picture. Yeah, you know what
- 35:12Speaker 2: I'm saying, something's wrong with that picture?
- 35:15Speaker 5: Is legit. This year they're they're legit.
- 35:18Speaker 6: I mean I could maybe see them giving people fits.
- 35:21Speaker 5: They may make the whole run.
- 35:23Speaker 2: But and how about Alabama.
- 35:26Speaker 5: That was that was crazy.
- 35:27Speaker 2: It was crazy and nothing. They were seventeen and nothing.
- 35:30Speaker 4: They may score twenty four uns points and I hate
- 35:34Speaker 4: to see that.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Gosh, I wanted them to lose, go away.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Oh my gosh.
- 35:42Speaker 6: Well that was crazy because you know, last year, everybody
- 35:44Speaker 6: complained about the first round the home teams one one.
- 35:49Speaker 6: You know, everything in blue teams out. This year the
- 35:52Speaker 6: visitors one.
- 35:53Speaker 5: Yeah, Miami one of Miami one. Yeah, that was the closest.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Alabama went over Oklahoma. He said, yeah, that was a
- 35:59Speaker 4: defensive Strugah, yeah, like I said. And then we in
- 36:01Speaker 4: the next round. You got Miami over excuse me, Ohio,
- 36:05Speaker 4: excuse me, Miami at Ohio State. You got Oregon at
- 36:09Speaker 4: Texas Tech, you got Alabama at Indiana, and then Old
- 36:12Speaker 4: Missa Georgia. Now, one of the controversies that were a
- 36:16Speaker 4: lot of people ain't gonna say a lot, but some
- 36:18Speaker 4: people were complaining about is that these are home games,
- 36:21Speaker 4: where these playoffs should be neutral site games.
- 36:24Speaker 5: At that point, I think they should.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Should be you think so I think so too.
- 36:27Speaker 5: You think so, yeah, the first round is okay, first.
- 36:31Speaker 4: So you're saying second round, yes, so, but but but
- 36:34Speaker 4: that would mean the team who had to buy would
- 36:37Speaker 4: have to wouldn't have that home field advantage.
- 36:39Speaker 2: They would be at a neutral That's all right, you think,
- 36:41Speaker 2: So they got the buy.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Wow, the benefit benefit, The benefit is the boy, the
- 36:47Speaker 4: benefit is the benefit. So what's what's the what's the
- 36:51Speaker 4: argument for making it a neutral site game as opposed
- 36:54Speaker 4: to a home game?
- 36:55Speaker 6: Because because the home game is a home game, think
- 36:57Speaker 6: about the crowd. That that that changed is the whole
- 37:00Speaker 6: dynamic of the game.
- 37:02Speaker 4: If you believe in the idea of home field advantage,
- 37:05Speaker 4: which I do.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Then you're already giving me a head start.
- 37:12Speaker 4: But it's a big But it's a playoff game, So
- 37:14Speaker 4: why shouldn't I have every other home every excuse me,
- 37:18Speaker 4: every other playoff the higher seed plays it own every
- 37:22Speaker 4: every every every NFL team is fighting for home field advantage.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Why why it's an advantage?
- 37:29Speaker 4: Okay, So so if we everybody knows that if there's
- 37:34Speaker 4: an advantage of being home, especially in the playoffs, So
- 37:39Speaker 4: second round of some sort, if you want to call
- 37:41Speaker 4: it that, why are we why are we not at
- 37:44Speaker 4: a at a neutral think but why why would we
- 37:48Speaker 4: be at a neutral field? Because we want to make
- 37:50Speaker 4: it as even as we can.
- 37:51Speaker 2: So you want to you so you're saying you gonna
- 37:53Speaker 2: make it even. I want to make it even.
- 37:55Speaker 6: Okay, Big ten in the SEC every year getting getting
- 37:58Speaker 6: the home games. I mean that's a legitimate argument. I mean,
- 38:06Speaker 6: you know, I mean you got to give these teams
- 38:09Speaker 6: a little bit of a I don't want to say
- 38:11Speaker 6: an edge, but a little.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Bit of fairness.
- 38:15Speaker 4: But in addition, so we're saying fairness, we're saying like equitable.
- 38:18Speaker 4: Do you think like this would like help like sort
- 38:23Speaker 4: of re establish that tradition of Bowl games to have
- 38:26Speaker 4: a neutral.
- 38:26Speaker 5: Something that that would be a good way to fit
- 38:28Speaker 5: the games back in.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Yes, because again think about it, you.
- 38:32Speaker 5: Can you can combine it.
- 38:34Speaker 4: You're in the NFL and you got like you what
- 38:37Speaker 4: are you trying to get for the playoffs? Home field advantage?
- 38:41Speaker 4: Home field advantage? Why should this be different?
- 38:45Speaker 2: Though?
- 38:46Speaker 4: That's what I'm trying to say. The NFL is what
- 38:49Speaker 4: it is because high school is what it is. Because
- 38:52Speaker 4: because I'm going to make the case that that should
- 38:55Speaker 4: be changed.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Why hold on you.
- 39:00Speaker 4: I think, I know the NFL is not gonna change,
- 39:04Speaker 4: but collegiate high school I'm okay with you getting that first,
- 39:08Speaker 4: and that some of this is some of this is money.
- 39:11Speaker 5: All of it it's money.
- 39:13Speaker 4: You you want those home games for playoffs so that
- 39:17Speaker 4: you can make the money. I understand that, and that's
- 39:20Speaker 4: a and that's a huge benefit to the school. But
- 39:23Speaker 4: at the end of the day, to me, I want,
- 39:28Speaker 4: I want the best game. And and I believe, I
- 39:31Speaker 4: believe if you take if you gotta travel and I
- 39:35Speaker 4: gotta travel, and we're gonna meet at another place, we
- 39:38Speaker 4: got a better chance.
- 39:39Speaker 2: You're saying all playoff well, second.
- 39:42Speaker 4: And second round rounds, whatever, So you say those games
- 39:44Speaker 4: should be neutral I've actually I mean, that's actually give
- 39:47Speaker 4: me something to think about, because I've never heard that
- 39:49Speaker 4: perspective before. I mean, I've never heard somebody say like, well, okay,
- 39:53Speaker 4: these should be neutral site games.
- 39:55Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's interesting.
- 39:57Speaker 4: You flying, you're flying three of or hours somewhere, get
- 40:02Speaker 4: off the plane, get your.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Stuff, throw it in the hotel on the field.
- 40:07Speaker 4: You gotta go. So now you gotta go get that
- 40:09Speaker 4: that practice in. Right now, the other team is sitting
- 40:13Speaker 4: at home. They didn't already practice there, they're chilling watching TV.
- 40:17Speaker 4: But that's just tru But but that's what you get
- 40:20Speaker 4: for being a higher seed. That's the I don't I don't,
- 40:23Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 40:24Speaker 5: It doesn't work for me. It's collegiately, that's what reason.
- 40:27Speaker 4: Because because this is like because we're naming it, they
- 40:31Speaker 4: just name these games bowl games. But they're not bowl
- 40:33Speaker 4: games in the sense that they are going to the
- 40:36Speaker 4: specific location that these bowl games were held in. So
- 40:40Speaker 4: Miami and Ohio they're playing in the Cotton Bowl, Oregon,
- 40:43Speaker 4: Texas Tech they're playing in the Orange Bowl. Alabama and
- 40:47Speaker 4: Indiana they're playing in the Rose Bowl, and then Old
- 40:51Speaker 4: Miss and Georgia are playing in the Sugar Bowl. So again,
- 40:53Speaker 4: traditionally the Sugar Bowls in New Orleans, the Rose Bowls
- 40:56Speaker 4: in Pasadena, the Boat the Orange Bowls in Miami, and
- 41:02Speaker 4: then the then the Cotton Bowl would be in Texas.
- 41:06Speaker 4: So you're just saying keep them where they tradition. Yeah yeah, wow,
- 41:13Speaker 4: you took at a first step further to say all
- 41:15Speaker 4: playoff games should just be neutral. I think that now,
- 41:19Speaker 4: if let's just say a bowl is a certain bowl
- 41:21Speaker 4: is somewhere Okay, and you happen to be in that Bowl.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Okay, I might. That's different.
- 41:29Speaker 5: You just got lucky.
- 41:30Speaker 2: You just got lucky.
- 41:31Speaker 4: You get to play at home, you know, or at
- 41:33Speaker 4: least close to home. But for the most part, like
- 41:36Speaker 4: I feel like I'd be fine if all of the
- 41:40Speaker 4: all the Bowl games were somewhere that didn't necessarily have
- 41:43Speaker 4: a legitimate cone.
- 41:45Speaker 2: That is interesting. That's an interesting I've never thought about that.
- 41:49Speaker 5: I think that's a great.
- 41:51Speaker 4: I legitimately, I've never even considered that, you know, outside
- 41:55Speaker 4: of the Bowl.
- 41:55Speaker 6: But when they get to host these games, this is
- 41:57Speaker 6: this is out of my curiosity, and you guys may
- 41:59Speaker 6: know the answer.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Whenever, you know, the.
- 42:01Speaker 6: Opposing team goes to Ohio State or whoever's hosting, do they.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Split the revenue or is it just the home team.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Gets a revenue? I don't. I don't.
- 42:10Speaker 5: That would be another argument.
- 42:11Speaker 2: For that, if Bowl games or something like that.
- 42:13Speaker 4: I don't know if that's the I don't know if
- 42:17Speaker 4: that's yeah, if it's a playoff game, so.
- 42:19Speaker 5: If you would you get all the money you.
- 42:23Speaker 4: Share because you're using your resources, your employees and everything
- 42:26Speaker 4: like that.
- 42:26Speaker 2: I don't. Yeah, I don't know. I don't see. I
- 42:29Speaker 2: don't know if it be like down the middle. No,
- 42:31Speaker 2: I don't think that. I don't think that.
- 42:33Speaker 6: I think another reason to make it neutral on mind, Yeah,
- 42:35Speaker 6: because to me, because then it would have to be
- 42:38Speaker 6: split right down the middle.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Because that's somewhere.
- 42:41Speaker 4: That the benefit of having, you know, the playoff game
- 42:47Speaker 4: Bowl game at your field is money, right, I'm not
- 42:53Speaker 4: sharing it with Hollis. There would be no reason for
- 42:56Speaker 4: me to share that with Hollis. But if we now
- 42:58Speaker 4: are playing in a neutral if we're playing at a
- 43:02Speaker 4: neutral site, then we can split that money. And what
- 43:07Speaker 4: we now now we both can can can really fight
- 43:11Speaker 4: for get people at the game.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's interesting.
- 43:16Speaker 5: It's not just your home. Yeah, schools gets the chance.
- 43:20Speaker 4: To get all right, So speaking, we got one probably
- 43:25Speaker 4: one last topic.
- 43:27Speaker 2: We have a.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Pittsburgh Stiller wide receiver boy apparently accosted a fan who
- 43:37Speaker 4: was in close proximity to the sideline.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Apparently the fan.
- 43:43Speaker 4: The Pittsburgh apparently I was just asking keep.
- 43:51Speaker 5: Accusing me of that's a good look for you.
- 43:54Speaker 4: The fancy has some derogatory remarks in the tone of
- 43:59Speaker 4: a of racist remarks.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I think that was. Got the that's
- 44:05Speaker 2: what got it going out there.
- 44:07Speaker 4: So I mean, what do we think about, like the
- 44:10Speaker 4: incident that happened on what should be the punishment if
- 44:12Speaker 4: any like?
- 44:13Speaker 7: What?
- 44:14Speaker 5: Well, let me tell you what I found out on
- 44:16Speaker 5: the internet.
- 44:16Speaker 6: And I don't know if it's true or not. I
- 44:18Speaker 6: think it should be because it was under CBS Sports.
- 44:21Speaker 6: But supposedly this particular fan has had a run in
- 44:26Speaker 6: with him before when he was a Seahawk. Yeah, I
- 44:29Speaker 6: think I saw that, and they were playing in Detroit,
- 44:31Speaker 6: the Seahawks in Detroit, and he actually had to report
- 44:35Speaker 6: the fan to NFL security during that game.
- 44:37Speaker 2: It's the same fan, Oh so he's previously reported Yes.
- 44:41Speaker 6: Yes, And to me, I mean if he's if the
- 44:46Speaker 6: fan is actively pursuing the player to taunt him, to
- 44:51Speaker 6: to to provoke him, we're in his number, right then
- 44:55Speaker 6: we need to address fan behavior as much as we
- 44:58Speaker 6: do player behavior. I'm sorry, I mean, I feel like
- 45:00Speaker 6: he should be held responsible just as much as d
- 45:04Speaker 6: K is.
- 45:05Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm with you.
- 45:09Speaker 5: I know the NFL probably disagrees with me.
- 45:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna, I'm gonna. I mean, it's gonna take it's
- 45:15Speaker 4: gonna take a lot of control internal control for you
- 45:23Speaker 4: to to be by that fence. Here's somebody. Well let me, well,
- 45:28Speaker 4: have you had a similar situation which you had like
- 45:31Speaker 4: a fan of somebody who was just lighting you up,
- 45:34Speaker 4: just saying like the nastiestuff possible. Well, yeah, like I've
- 45:38Speaker 4: had somebody talk about being with my mom, you know,
- 45:44Speaker 4: as as a as a fan, and you like, I'm
- 45:47Speaker 4: hearing it. I hear him, right, There's nothing for me.
- 45:52Speaker 4: There's there's nothing really for me to do. You know.
- 45:55Speaker 4: I can't go and jump up and try to grab them,
- 46:00Speaker 4: punch him or whatever because one nobody else is gonna
- 46:04Speaker 4: say they heard that.
- 46:06Speaker 2: At least on the field, right, So it looks like
- 46:11Speaker 2: me like I'm doing you you had this thought process,
- 46:15Speaker 2: why why this is going on?
- 46:17Speaker 4: I just looked, I just look I just looked at him,
- 46:19Speaker 4: trying to figure out, like, dude, like what like what
- 46:21Speaker 4: would make you say that at a football game? Right?
- 46:25Speaker 6: Like?
- 46:26Speaker 2: Where?
- 46:26Speaker 5: Where?
- 46:26Speaker 2: Where does that?
- 46:27Speaker 5: And I think where the fans some fans take.
- 46:30Speaker 2: They they go too far, they go too far in.
- 46:33Speaker 6: The field and you can't really respond and they know
- 46:36Speaker 6: that they want to push those buttons.
- 46:38Speaker 2: To me, I feel like there should be there should
- 46:42Speaker 2: be anywhere that there's a fan base, there should be security.
- 46:48Speaker 4: Along the fence, on the bleachers, in the end zone,
- 46:52Speaker 4: down on the sidelines to where they hear those things
- 46:57Speaker 4: or they hear those people actin stupid and you either
- 47:01Speaker 4: put them out or do you do all that. You
- 47:04Speaker 4: have the possibility, you have the capability, you have the
- 47:07Speaker 4: funding to be able to secure that boundary of the
- 47:13Speaker 4: football field if you choose to do it. I think
- 47:16Speaker 4: you're right, and I think it's got to be like
- 47:18Speaker 4: a sort of like a zero tolerance because I think
- 47:22Speaker 4: if you're a player, we can't like if maybe those
- 47:26Speaker 4: things were said to somebody on the street, it would
- 47:28Speaker 4: be a similar reaction. You can't expect these players just
- 47:32Speaker 4: to be non reactions. I think like Russell Westbrook in
- 47:34Speaker 4: the NBA had a similar situation. So I think maybe
- 47:37Speaker 4: if there's a situation in which, to your point, where
- 47:40Speaker 4: you have this rogue fan who keeps doing this to
- 47:42Speaker 4: a specific player and that player reports it immediately, I
- 47:46Speaker 4: mean you got to go, you get you get chance.
- 47:50Speaker 2: And you gotta coming. I don't even.
- 47:54Speaker 4: I don't think any and I could be wrong, but
- 47:58Speaker 4: from my knowledge and my I did my concept of
- 48:02Speaker 4: professional sports for sure, no player is going to come
- 48:07Speaker 4: to you as a security person and tell you that
- 48:10Speaker 4: this person is saying these things to me.
- 48:14Speaker 2: That's going to be a fact.
- 48:16Speaker 4: And so if I come to you with that fact
- 48:20Speaker 4: that that security guy, police officer, whatever, he's going to
- 48:25Speaker 4: go to that person and say, listen, if you say
- 48:27Speaker 4: anything else, you got one more time. If if somebody
- 48:30Speaker 4: comes back and says that you said this, you're out.
- 48:34Speaker 4: I mean, because it should.
- 48:35Speaker 1: It should.
- 48:36Speaker 2: It should be almost as close to zero tolerance as
- 48:39Speaker 2: they convinent.
- 48:40Speaker 4: I wonder if that dude like had a phone and
- 48:41Speaker 4: he was just like trying to get attention, Like I
- 48:44Speaker 4: wonder if he if he.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Like, he's probably having fun. He's probably having.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Fun, and he's saying, I promise you he's not even
- 48:52Speaker 4: he's not even thinking that this one because you can't
- 48:56Speaker 4: get to me.
- 48:57Speaker 2: I can call you, I can call you anything I want.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Because you can't get to me.
- 49:01Speaker 6: He's actually hoping that he will get attack because then
- 49:04Speaker 6: he can maybe seek some monetary you know, he wants money.
- 49:11Speaker 4: There's always that possibility, and I wouldn't doubt it's you know,
- 49:14Speaker 4: but man, that's that's just it's just so tough man,
- 49:17Speaker 4: because it's like I understand the league perception and like
- 49:22Speaker 4: even maybe some fans perception like DK making where you
- 49:24Speaker 4: can't do that d d D. But it's like if
- 49:27Speaker 4: that guy is just like verbally abusing you all day,
- 49:31Speaker 4: all dam and and you you can't say all me, oh,
- 49:36Speaker 4: you can't do that.
- 49:37Speaker 2: You know, how do you fix that? How do you feel?
- 49:40Speaker 4: I think that's you have to try to figure out
- 49:43Speaker 4: how to how do we stop that? The league has
- 49:46Speaker 4: to figure out how do we stop that? Because I
- 49:48Speaker 4: think like the NBA, they have like they've developed that
- 49:50Speaker 4: sort of zero tolerance because even if you look at
- 49:53Speaker 4: the malice in the Palace and I know we're not
- 49:55Speaker 4: trying to go back there, that was a fan who
- 49:57Speaker 4: threw something on around our test, like they didn't just
- 50:00Speaker 4: like you didn't have the players just go in the
- 50:02Speaker 4: crowd and just start you know, doing stuff. A fan
- 50:05Speaker 4: started you know, talking and then it then it got
- 50:08Speaker 4: physical and then the altercation went crazy.
- 50:11Speaker 2: So fans got to take some responsibility too.
- 50:14Speaker 4: And it's just like, dude, if you don't pay a
- 50:16Speaker 4: gazillion dollars to be because I looked at these tickets
- 50:20Speaker 4: in NBA NFL, like if you're that close them is expensive.
- 50:25Speaker 2: It was like a mortgage payment. Bro, shouldn't you be
- 50:28Speaker 2: shouldn't you be shouldn't you be normal? Shouldn't you just
- 50:31Speaker 2: be proud that they should?
- 50:33Speaker 4: That should come with autographs like I want a jersey
- 50:37Speaker 4: and don't want to autograph, but.
- 50:38Speaker 5: I'm telling intentions.
- 50:41Speaker 6: He wanted, he wanted to provoke him to physically a
- 50:44Speaker 6: talk so that you know, he could have some film
- 50:47Speaker 6: and have, you know, a reason.
- 50:49Speaker 4: To to get and he's probably And the bad thing
- 50:52Speaker 4: about that, to your point, Lisa, is he's probably like
- 50:55Speaker 4: proud of that.
- 50:57Speaker 2: He's proud of that, Like he's like, like I I
- 51:00Speaker 2: I provoked him.
- 51:01Speaker 5: It blew my mind, like the guy has done it
- 51:03Speaker 5: to the same player before.
- 51:04Speaker 4: And I think maybe maybe that's why d Mekea feelt
- 51:07Speaker 4: like comfortable pinting hands on him, because like, look he
- 51:10Speaker 4: because he probably had it. He's thinking in his mind
- 51:12Speaker 4: like I got a case like this is happened before.
- 51:14Speaker 4: Like I'm not gonna let you sit here and just
- 51:16Speaker 4: keep doing to your to your brain holler. It's like yes,
- 51:19Speaker 4: if I know that you're sitting in the front row
- 51:23Speaker 4: and you've been talking to me every game, every time
- 51:27Speaker 4: I come into the end zone you're saying something, then
- 51:30Speaker 4: I'm gonna have some recognition of who you are. Oh absolutely,
- 51:33Speaker 4: And so all of a sudden, if this, if something
- 51:36Speaker 4: like this all of a sudden happens and you go
- 51:38Speaker 4: there and you say that word to me, Yeah, we're done. Now,
- 51:44Speaker 4: that is I don't know you kind of I think,
- 51:46Speaker 4: you know, the league definitely has to do something about
- 51:48Speaker 4: the fans and then just the fans.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Man, just go to the game and have fun, man,
- 51:53Speaker 2: Like that's all you have to do. That's all you
- 51:56Speaker 2: have to do.
- 51:56Speaker 4: Like it's exclusive game and have fun, cheer for your
- 52:01Speaker 4: team and do all that kind of stuff. It's cold,
- 52:05Speaker 4: like the food costs a gazillion dollars. Like just I mean,
- 52:09Speaker 4: and trust me, this is at every level. There's no
- 52:12Speaker 4: reason to get I don't care what the officials are saying,
- 52:16Speaker 4: they've got bad calls.
- 52:17Speaker 2: All this kind of stuff does matter. You have nothing
- 52:20Speaker 2: to say. You can't change any of that. Just just
- 52:23Speaker 2: just watch it. Just watch it and enjoy, drink your beer.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Drink a beer and go home.
- 52:29Speaker 5: Cheer a little bit.
