- 0:22our focus is Proverbs 17.22 because it's the 17th day of the
- 0:25month.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Ernie Lansford.
- 0:42working to help you connect biblical wisdom to everyday
- 0:46marketplace decisions so
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: you can build relationships that far outlast any transaction.
- 0:53We'll bring timeless biblical truths into the marketplace where
- 0:58influence is real,
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: choices are constant,
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: and relationships matter more than results.
- 1:05So grab your coffee,
- 1:07tea,
- 1:07latte,
- 1:08soda,
- 1:08or water,
- 1:09and let's just get started.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Today,
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I'm reading from Marketplace Proverbs,
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Volume 3,
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Ego,
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Humility,
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: and Partnership,
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: the KPI that Matters the Most.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I'm going to read Proverbs 17, verse 22.
- 1:29A cheerful heart is good medicine,
- 1:32but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: I'm also going to insert Philippians 4, verse 8.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Whatever is true,
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: noble,
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: right,
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: pure,
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: lovely,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: admirable,
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: if anything is excellent or praiseworthy,
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: think about such things.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: When someone asks,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: how am I doing,
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: or what's up,
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: or,
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: the traditional social greetings,
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: I usually reply,
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I'm having the time of my life.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Now, some people smile, some raise an eyebrow, a few grumble.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: You're lying.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: But here's the truth.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I truly mean it.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Over 40 years ago, I made a conscious decision to live that way.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Now, that doesn't mean that I'm always happy.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: I have my grumpy, frustrated days like anyone else.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Just ask my wife, Jennifer, of 57 years.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I get irritated, and especially irritated because
- 2:36When opportunities I see as what I would call common sense
- 2:40profitable are overlooked by others.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: But even on those days, my joy isn't gone.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: It's just covered up by a thin layer of frustration.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So why choose happiness?
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: because I believe it's directly tied to performance,
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: energy,
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: creativity,
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: and my trademark term,
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: customer success mastery.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Happiness keeps me grounded in gratitude,
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: focused on adding significance to others,
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: and open to growth,
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: even when the circumstances aren't ideal.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And I've had people say,
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: if you're having the time of your life,
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: why aren't you writing this from your private jet?
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Well, I didn't design my life around owning a private jet.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I don't need one to feel fulfilled.
- 3:32I am where I am because of the decisions I've made,
- 3:36and I'm thankful for that.
- 3:39Someone asked me the other day,
- 3:40what do you mean you're having the time of your life?
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: I said,
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I am where I am because of what I did,
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: and I made conscious decisions most of the time,
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: and some of the decisions weren't good,
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: but I'm still having the time of my life because I made those decisions
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: and I own them.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I am where I am because of the decision that I made.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: And I'm thankful for that.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: True happiness isn't about location or luxury.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: It's about clarity, contentment, and purpose.
- 4:16You know,
- 4:16it's the same coffee,
- 4:18whether we're driving a $100,000 luxury car,
- 4:22Or an old sedan with 200,000 miles on it when we go through the
- 4:26coffee shop drive-thru.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: What matters is our attitude.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: and how we treat the person serving us.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: I've said before,
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: ego performs,
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: humility partners,
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: significance serves,
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: and our attitude shows up on our scoreboard.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: That's why happiness is a key partnership indicator.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: It tells people you're safe,
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: trustworthy,
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: emotionally grounded,
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: and ready to add significance with excellence.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Some people live as if they have forever.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Others live as though time is short.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Well, what's my perspective?
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Well, life isn't short, but it's certainly definite.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: And one day, the pages will run out.
- 5:16So let's make sure we know what chapter we're in and live it
- 5:21well from a position
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: of,
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: I'm having a time of my life.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Now, no, I'm not drifting into some feel-good haze.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: It's just not a
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: A hippie bliss.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Yes, I'm old enough to be a hippie.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I never was,
- 5:36but having the time of your life is not one of those hippie
- 5:42blissful feelings or a
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: feel-good haze.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Happiness isn't fluff.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: It's not a fad.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: It's a daily decision, and it's a hard-won advantage.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Let's live it like it matters because it does.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: I'm reminded of the scripture, this is the day the Lord has made.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Let us be glad and rejoice in it.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Today's customer success code, happiness isn't fluff, it's fuel.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Here's our action points for today.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Number one, audit your attitude.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Are you showing up with an attitude of gratitude or just grumbling?
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Number two, look for the good.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Name one thing that you can celebrate right this very moment.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Even if you have to hit pause, think about it.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Look for something good right now.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: And three, serve with a smile.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Add significance to others with a smile.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Be the kind of partner people enjoy working with.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: And then five, choose your mindset.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Actually, that's not point number four.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Choose your mindset.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Life is definite, but joy is renewable.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Fight for it daily.

- 7:15SPEAKER_00: May the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: May the Lord look with favor on you
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: and give you peace.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: If this message encouraged you, please share it.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: And remember, success is temporal.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Adding significance to others is infinite.
